Do the batfamily members ever get too into their undercover work? (Undercover in an office and theyre worried about spreadsheets, working in a warehouse and coming home complaining about missing parts)
Bruce: Status updates on your undercover missions. Dick, you first. What have you got down at the docks?
Dick: I haven't confirmed the Killer Croc sightings yet, but more importantly, our catch hasn't been measuring up to last year's. Tuna we're doing okay on, but the salmon population seems to be on the low end. I've contacted the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries but it'll be another 3-5 business days before they can come down and check it out.
Bruce: At least you're doing something to help. Jason?
Jason: Class was okay. I think the kids are warming up to me as their substitute while Mrs. Maloney is out on maternity leave. The average on the last vocabulary quiz was 83.53% so either I'm doing my job right or they need to be challenged. I'm worried about Tristan Lancy, though. He's normally a good student but his grades have been dropping recently and his parents don't seem like safe people to tell. I'll talk to him tomorrow and try to pair him up with a peer tutor if he needs it.
Bruce: Also see if he has any alternate contacts besides his parents. Tim, any updates at the chemical plant?
Tim: If by updates you mean OSHA violations, I could go on all week. We got a batch of new recruits today and they were just thrown into the work—no PPE, no safety training, nothing. This is what happens when you place production over employee well-being. I'm gonna file a complaint after this meeting. Also, I think the union will have something to say about the manager cutting people's lunch breaks short.
Bruce: I see. Damian? Please tell me you found something volunteering at the zoo.
Damian: Depends on how you define "found." While I have not obtained evidence of a mutant larvae black market, I did help some of the animals at the sanctuary make progress with their recovery. Bobo the monkey is healing from his broken arms and we're gradually getting him re-acclimated to climbing higher surfaces. Suzie the black bear was born a little prematurely but seems to be catching up to her peers in terms of growth. Lastly, we got a grant for additional wildcat research and enrichment. As an aside, we are having an educational seminar on European mountain goats this Friday at 3:30 and I expect all of you to be there.
Bruce: I'll put that on our calendars. Steph?
Steph: It's not really undercover work for me, just work. Anyway, yes the newest Batburger location is being used for money laundering. But I really need to vent about the customers for a sec. We don't open until 10 and at 9:30 this morning some moron was banging on our door demanding Jokerized cheese fries. Then right in the middle of the lunch rush, Janie got sick so I had to fill in as the cashier and it was hell. After that, I had to step in between a fight at the drive-thru because the customer claimed we only gave him nine pieces of his ten-piece Robin nuggets and tried to beat up the kid who took his order. And to top it all off, an entire high school hockey team came in five minutes before closing.
Bruce: Cass?
Cass, blowing balloons: Can't talk. Arranging bat mitzvah.
Bruce: Duke, you're my last hope.
Duke: Margie's bringing a peanut butter chocolate cake to the bake sale. I swiped her recipe and we can easily beat her. Her ganache is way too watery and just runs off the top of the cake, which isn't even leveled. She's also trying to do something with a raspberry filling that isn't working at all. It's like she couldn't decide on what to bring. The bake sale committee also asked if we can bring some apple pies because the original baker has to go out of town for a family emergency. I think we'll win if we bring them with some ice cream and a touch of caramel, even though this isn't a contest.
Bruce: Thank you. At least our most critical case has been taken care of.
Barbara: ...I'll save my book launch for later.

Never Grow Up
Agent Rossi-Reid
Anthology Masterlist
David Rossi x daughter!reader,  Spencer Reid x reader, Criminal minds x BAU!reader
Summary: The role Gideon played as Rossi-Reid grew up.
A/N: This is sad. This is really sad. I don't apologize. Embrace the sad.
Based off Taylor Swift's Never Grow Up
CW: typical criminal minds talk of murder, very sad and angsty
---
Your little hands wrapped around my finger And it's so quiet in the world tonight Your little eyelids flutter 'cause you're dreamin' So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light
---
Dave looked down at the little bundle of blankets that rested in his arms. It was a big day for the newest Rossi family addition- the team had come over to meet you for the very first time. It had been a lot for Dave, too. He thought profiling was the hardest, most time consuming, soul-sucking, job in the world, but you had proved him wrong. Turns out that the hardest, most time consuming, soul-sucking job in the world was being a parent.
But the joy you brought him made up for it all.
For about an hour the BAU agents had passed you around and Dave was grateful that after all the action you were dozing off in his arms, one of your impossibly small hands wrapped around his pointer finger. He smiled tiredly, knowing he had to put you down in your crib soon before he spent another night admiring your adorably tiny features. He sighed quietly and sent you down, hoping that you wouldn’t wake up. Your eyelids fluttered- hopefully with good dreams- but other than that you didn’t stir.
He walked over to turn on the nightlight; it was a gift from Gideon. The tiny plastic sparrow illuminated the room the perfect amount, but Dave couldn’t get over his closest colleague’s strange fascination with birds. Of course, you loved the little plastic bird- when you awoke at night you’d cry at first, but by the time your dad got to your room you’d be goggling at the feathered figure.
“Mio Passerotta.” It slipped out before Dave even had a chance to think about it. The Italian nickname was common enough that no one would think it was odd, but it felt more right than that. Gideon had named his son Stephen, in honor of Dave. It only felt right that your term of endearment- something your dad had thought about more than your actual name- was an ode to his friend. “Sogni d’oro, my sparrow. Ti voglio bene.”
---
To you, everything's funny You got nothing to regret I'd give all I have honey If you could stay like that
---
“Uncle Jason!” Your little legs carried you towards Gideon’s desk as fast as they could. “Uncle Jason look!”
“What is this?” he said in an exaggerated voice as you handed him a piece of paper and climbed into his lap. Your preschool and daycare were closed due to a holiday, but work never stopped at the BAU, meaning your dad had no choice but to bring you into the office. None of the agents minded- you brought a joy to the space so pure that it almost made the horror of their jobs disappear, even if it was only for the day.
Lucky for them you were now three years old and had recently discovered a love for drawing and coloring, which meant scrapped preliminary profiles that were blank on one side could be recycled into canvases for your artwork. Gideon couldn’t decide if it was right or not- having you put images of rainbows and butterflies on papers that had lists of victims names on the other side- but he tried not to think too hard about this.
“Wow!” Gideon held you steady on his lap with one hand and your drawing of… something… in the other. “Is this for me?”
“Yes!” You smiled up at him. “It’s a bird cos you like birds.”
“Thank you,” he said. “I’ll hang it right here.” He tacked the picture up on the bulletin board that sat on his desk, next to the other three drawings of birds you had done that day for him.
“I should draw one wearing a hat!” you giggled. Gideon wasn’t sure what was so funny about the idea of a bird wearing a hat, but it made him chuckle anyway.
“(Y/N)!” your dad called for you.
You turned to Gideon. “I have to go, but I’ll be back!” You ran off towards your dad’s desk.
Gideon watched to make sure you didn’t fall. He opened up the file he had been so careful to close before you came over. Inside were pictures of young women with your same hair and eye color, each assaulted and murdered in cold blood. With a heavy heart, he looked over to you, innocently drawing another picture with your crayons.
Oh what he would give for you to stay like that.
---
You're in the car on the way to the movies And you're mortified your mom's droppin' you off At fourteen, there's just so much you can't do And you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots
---
Aaron Hotchner was a man known for his calm and cool demeanor, but he was also known for his ambition, and occasionally that ambition made him more excited than normal. Recently, his ambition had led him to become an agent at the BAU. It was something he’d wanted since he first heard about the unit, and though he managed to make himself look poised on the outside, he couldn’t hide the fact that he was probably shivering in his suit. They really should warn the new agents that the basement, which served as the unit’s headquarters, could go from being a sauna one day to the arctic tundra the next day.
The heavy metal doors of the BAU opened, letting the cool air from the hallway sweep across his desk. He shook off the need to chatter his teeth and went back to his paperwork. It was beginning to feel tedious, doing the grunt work of all the agents above him. He knew that next week he would get to start looking at actual cases. After a few months he would be allowed to consult on simple profiles over the phone with small police stations that called for help. Maybe even if he worked hard enough he could make it into the field before he hit his first year-
“Agent Hotchner, over here!” Someone called to him from the outskirts of the space, where the senior agents had their desks. He suppressed a groan at the idea that another file would be added to his seemingly endless pile, but when he looked over at the person who had called him, they weren’t holding out a file.
David Rossi, the senior agent who approved Aaron’s request to join the unit, was walking towards him. Next to the senior agent was you. Aaron had seen you before of course, but he had never taken time to really look at the 14 year old that came into the BAU around 4 PM every day. But now there was no doubt in his mind that you were David Rossi’s daughter- your facial expressions, posture, and the way you walked was nearly identical to your dad’s.
“Agent Rossi,” Aaron stood up from his desk as the two of you approached.
“Please, Aaron,” Rossi said. “Just call me Dave. Now, this is my daughter, (Y/N). (Y/N), this is Agent Hotchner. Now, I have a flight to catch for an emergency case and the TSA is going to be a pain in my ass like they usually are.” He handed Aaron a key. “This is for SUV number 4 in the parking garage. Don’t crash it, but (Y/N) has to meet her friends in 25 minutes and the movie theater is 30 minutes away. Thanks.”
Dave gave Aaron a quick pat on the shoulder and then walked past him, his go-bag in hand, leaving the young agent alone with his daughter. Aaron honestly wasn’t sure whether he should be offended or not.
“Sorry you got put on babysitting duty,” you said, though you didn’t sound apologetic. “But we have to go.” You began to walk off.
Aaron blindly shoved papers into his brief case before following you out the doors of the BAU. “I’ll uh-” He looked down at his watch. “I’ll have to ask where the SUVs are kept-”
“No need.” You walked easily into the elevator and pressed a button. “I know this place like the back of my hand.”
You seemed confident enough in your manner that he didn’t question you. Aaron took a deep breath to try to compose himself. He was usually good at working under pressure, but something like this had never happened to him.
The elevator stopped and you walked off. Aaron followed you. Surely enough, you knew exactly where the SUV was kept. As he drove, you tried to get him to take short cuts to the movie theater, but he refused to listen. Still, you got there on time. He was about to pull up to it when-
“You can just drop me off here,” you said. The theater was about a block away. “I’ll just walk.”
Aaron shook his head. “Your dad trusted me and-”
“And I get made fun of every time I get dropped off somewhere in a government vehicle.”
Aaron looked over at you. The confidence that had shone through before dimmed just a bit. Aaron remembered being 14… thinking about all the things he wished he could do but he couldn’t. He knew that teenage desire to have independence; to be able to call the shots in your own life.
Honestly, he was experiencing a bit of it right now being new at the BAU- having this need to look good for everyone, wanting to impress those around him, hoping that they’d loosen his leash just a little bit…
“One day what the other kids say about you won't matter,” he said and pulled up in front of the theater to drop you off. “Do you have a ride home?”
“Yeah, my actual babysitter will be here soon,” you replied. “Thanks for the ride, Hotch.”
“Don’t call me that,” he retorted.
You smirked at him before shutting the car door. You walked into the theater, but saw that Hotch was lingering around, just to make sure you really were okay, before finally leaving.
You hurried out to the payphone in front of the theater and dialed the number. “He stuck around for an extra seven minutes,” you said into the phone. “Trusted me enough to follow me to the SUV but didn't budge when I told him it'd be quicker to take the short cut. I'd give him a B+. Maybe an A-.”
You knew that Jason Gideon was smiling on the other end of the phone. “I guess he passed,” your uncle said. “I'll be there to pick you up soon.”
You hung up the phone, your part in the BAU new agent hazing ritual complete. Agent Hotchner had taken enough command, trusted you but not too much, and followed through with your saftey.
Part of you wondered if there was more to the "test" than just a good laugh for Gideon and your dad. Maybe you'd find out one day.
---
So here I am in my new apartment In a big city, they just dropped me off It's so much colder than I thought it would be So I tuck myself in and turn my nightlight on
---
After finding the letter at Gideon’s cabin, you held Spencer for what felt like hours as he cried. You wanted to cry too, but the shock of it all was too much. It wouldn’t sink in, like your body and mind refused to accept that it had happened.
Spencer left for the bathroom to take a shower. You knew he was probably standing under scorching hot water, trying to wash away the pain of it, or feel something other than grief. Normally you would have gone in and turned the temperature down, but your heart wouldn’t let you.
Right now, all you wanted was some sleep.
You slipped on your most cozy pajamas, tossing your tear-stained clothes in the hamper. The entire apartment felt colder than normal. You went to tuck yourself into bed, but stopped before you could get comfortable. Spencer would get out of the shower eventually and being the gentleman he was, he wouldn’t turn on the light in an effort not to wake you. You slipped out of bed and padded over to the nightlight to turn it on.
The little sparrow had faded in color, but it was still your favorite nightlight. You went to flip the switch, but it didn’t turn on; and for some reason, you knew that it wouldn’t matter if you changed the bulb or not… it wasn’t going to light.
It would never light again.
Whether your heart or your legs crumbled first, you weren’t sure, but you were on the ground. Your body shook and tears fell, but you made no noise. You stayed there, on the cold wooden floor, your head buried in your arms and your legs tucked up to your chest, until a hand fell on your shoulder.
You looked up in the dark to see Spencer, and then turned back to the sparrow that had lost its light forever. He sat down next to you and let you lean into him, his arm wrapping around your shoulder.
“Do you want to talk about it?” he asked quietly. It was his turn to take care of you now, and he knew that. Sometimes that meant asking you if you wanted to say something, even if you said nothing at all.
You looked at the bird in the darkness, remembering your life… your childhood room, the sound of the door opening when your dad got home, the way your footsteps had grown against the concrete floors of the old BAU headquarters, the wise words that Gideon always spoke. It was before your heart had been broken, before you had been hurt and scarred, before you had been deserted; back when everything was simple.
“I-” you started. “Sometimes I wish I never grew up.”

Bucky looked around in triumph and pride as he raised his goblet of ale to join the others for the toast they were making.
Today had been an exceptionally fruitful. Good loot, good day. So they got together for a feast, to celebrate like they always did. They were quite a large mass of people, but the main hall of Bucky’s very grand fortress accommodated them all comfortably. Bucky’s home, more like his own personal castle, was situated on the main, and largest island in the middle of the archipelago he owned and ruled peacefully alongside his people.
The world called Bucky and his people thieves and looters, but really they were just doing what they had to do to support themselves and their families. Sure, along with that came a lot more money than they could ever need but that was secondary. Bucky made sure that his people knew that family and friends came first in life.
At the current feast, people cheered; some already more drunk than others. Torches lit the room beautifully, food pilled on the tables, happy faces around him, gold from his recent loot were being passed around in abundance and everyone chanted his name and told him how great he was – life couldn’t have been better. Although, as Bucky looked at the empty seat beside him, he felt a pang of heartache in his chest.
He had everything; loyalty and trust of the people he led, a massive fleet of ships ready for whenever, money, chests and chests of treasure – almost everything a man like him could ever want and need. All he lacked was you, physically, by his side. Sure, you were there in his mind like always. You were there in his heart, always.
But he craved nothing more than to just be able to hold your hand as you sat beside him, partaking in the celebration of his newest victory. He wanted to have you in his arms at all times, and show you off and shower you with love and affection. But he couldn’t.
He couldn’t because while he walked the earth, you roamed the deep waters of the ocean. And you were a secret of his, one which he intended on safeguarding for a while longer. Most people around him didn’t believe that your kind existed. Even he thought the same, until the day he met you.
Bucky caught himself smiling at the thought of the day you two first met…
-flashback-
It was a September evening, and Bucky and his men were near their harbor, exploring the new ship they had just gotten made. Another addition to their ever growing fleet. And as a way to make the new ship truly ‘their own’ and following a makeshift tradition of theirs, the men decided to have a friendly swords fight. The rules were simple, first to disarm their opponent wins.
So the men began. And the shouts and the cheer and the applause and all the clanging of the metal caught your attention as you were swimming by there. Cautiously, you surfaced to find a ship filled with people. You swam closer, and hid behind a rock and peeped at them. You recognized them and their ship, they were the pirates who lived nearby. You saw two men fighting on the deck of the anchored ship. One with slightly blond hair, and the other with luscious dark brown hair. The kind that blew with the wind majestically. The kind that made you swim just a little closer. The man turned, and you got a good look at his face and something inside you fluttered instantly. And there was this pressing need to swim closer and get a good look at the handsome, muscular human.
The night was getting dark so you knew none of the men would see you anyways. The sounds of the cheer got louder and louder until it broke into a loud roar. And given you had sensitive hearing, it made you wince just a little. You assumed that one of the men must’ve won, judging by the applause and the noise.
But then you also heard something drop into the water. You quickly got beneath the surface to check, and indeed saw that a metal sword was making it’s descend in the deep water. You swam to the surface just in time to see who it belonged to.
“…what you did, you punk! Now my new sword’s gone!” the one with dark brown hair complained to his friend and smacked him on the shoulder.
The one with blond hair clutched his chest and laughed out loud, joined by the other men. You read the situation quickly and concluded that the blond must’ve disarmed his dark haired friend and the latter was upset over his new sword being lost forever in the deep waters.
Hmm, surely there was something you could do…
-
“Come on, stop sulking over a sword. You have around a hundred of those in that fortress you call a home.” Steve threw his arm around Bucky’s shoulder and walked him towards the deck again. “Tonight, we feast in celebration of the new addition to our fleet!” Steve’s words earned a round of cheers and applause and roars.
Bucky eventually joined in. He congratulated his men and promised them many more ships in exchange for their fidelity. The men celebrated in the ship that night; getting drunk as usual. And Bucky had some ale but he made sure he didn’t get too drunk because his men’s safety was his responsibility and he figured he should at least stay sober and make sure everyone is alive and well till the next morning. Everyone eventually passed out in an ale coma. And Bucky was left alone. So he reached the top deck and leaned over the side of the ship and admired the shimmery water, illuminated by moonlight. It was peaceful. And beautiful. The sea had been Bucky’s first true love. He loved everything about it. The calm waves, the rough seas, the world unexplored world underneath--
“Psst!”
He heard a voice. And his flow of thoughts stopped immediately. Bucky looked around, all of his men and Steve included, were all passed out on the deck. Someone was even somehow in the empty barrel of ale. Surely no one on the ship ‘psst’ at him.
But then he heard it again.
“Psst!” followed by a loud splash of water and something shiny moving right below the ship. Bucky looked down to find a moving figure. A large fish? He was confused.
“What the hell?” he whispered to himself and went to grab a nearby burning torch, hoping it would provide at least some help, aiding him to see what was going on.
-
You heard his sharp intake of breath as soon as the golden light illuminated the part of the water where you were swimming. Not knowing what to say, you let him look down at you, hoping he’s see that you were harmless.
“Sir, I mean no harm.” You said after noticing that his eyes were getting wider and wider. And he leaned on the side of the ship so much you feared he might just fall. “Your sword, it fell earlier. I’ve come to return it.”
He gasped again when he heard your voice. Then he left the side of the ship and disappeared.
Oh well, you sighed. You waited for a few seconds but you didn’t see him. So you began swimming away, his sword still in your hand. You made up your mind that you’d keep it as a souvenir of having witnessed the existence of such a fine specimen of the human male specie. You hoped he hadn’t gone mad after seeing a mermaid, because most tend to-
Your thoughts were interrupted just about when you reached the large rock. You heard the sound of something in the water and out of instinct, you went and hid behind to rock. You clutched the handsome man’s sword to your chest and waited.
“Hello?” you heard a voice. A velvety, smooth and deep voice. You figured it must be the owner of the sword, but you were shy so you stayed hidden behind the rock, lowering gradually into the water; hiding.
Bucky had placed the burning torch at the front of the rowing boat, another sword by his side just in case, as he rowed closer and closer to the large groups of rock not far from his ship. He could feel someone’s presence and the voice in his head screamed what it was but he refused to believe it until he saw it for himself.
The closer he got, the louder he heard the sound of your nervous breaths. You were just as scared of him as he was of you. Yet, he was fascinated. And he sure as hell wouldn’t leave until he talked to you.
“I… I mean no harm either.” He spoke as he stopped right at the rock behind which you hid. He heard the splash of water again and then his breath hitched in his throat as you slowly emerged from behind the rock.
It felt to him like the most beautiful secret of the universe was unravelling right in front of his eyes. The moonlight and the golden light from the torch made you look ethereal, angelic almost like a goddess. You were easily the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. And he was speechless once face to face with you. And so far he had only seen half of you.
He was glad your hair covered your chest because he wouldn’t want to come off as inappropriate by staring at your chest. Which would be hard even if you didn’t have long hair which covered your breasts because even now he was having trouble moving his eyes away from your face.
Something inside him fluttered as you cautiously swam closer to his boat. He couldn’t believe it. He wondered, is this what love at first sight feels like?
“I… uh, you… you’re beautiful.” He managed to whisper, which earned him a little smile from you. You felt your face heat up. Then you remembered why you were here face to face with a human in the first place.
Oh he was beautiful as well. Long hair, rough stubble, strong built and pretty eyes.
You swam closer to the rowing boat and carefully slid his shiny sword beside him inside the boat and you moved back a couple inches. You wouldn’t lie, his gaze was making you a little nervous. But Bucky was nervous too, being so close to something so beautiful and rare was making him lose his mind.
It got a little too quiet so you began moving away more and more, and Bucky noticed. “No wait!” he called out, stopping you from swimming away.
You stopped. “Yes?”
“I… uh,” he stammered. “Can you stay for a little while?”
And that’s how it all began that night. After he asked you to stay for a while, you smiled and nodded. Truth is, you wanted to be in his company for a while longer as well. Bucky sat in the boat and you swam beside the boat, and the two of you talked for hours. He had countless questions, to which you had answers and vice versa.
He was a little awkward, which was understandable because he had met a mermaid for the first time. At some point, you noticed he was hesitating to ask you something.
“What is it?” you asked gently, tilting your head to the side a little. He chuckled nervously.
“I hope this doesn’t sound too weird. I’m sorry if it does but… can I see your tail?” he had to ask, he couldn’t hold it in anymore. He hoped he hadn’t offended you but judging by the smile on your face, he confirmed that he hadn’t.
“Oh, of course!” you beamed at him and excitedly took a dive, making sure your tail shows above the surface. You liked showing it off, it was your favorite thing about yourself.
Bucky watched in awe how you showed off your tail. It was breathtakingly beautiful; the scales were as shiny as the jewels he often found in his treasure chests. Your tail was a mixture of royal blue, azure and lilac – almost like it were the vibrant work of art of a god. The moonlight and the light from the burning torch made it glow and your fins were large and looked shiny and silky and almost luminescent.
Your upper body surfaced again, with a smile on your face. “How’d you like it?” you asked playfully.
“You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” he stated with excitement like a kid. And you two shared a laugh over how he was amazed by how pretty your tail was.
He was funny, he made you laugh a lot that night. And each time you would give him a piece of information about your world, he’d listen attentively. That night was magical, it was pure bliss for both of you. Then the sky began getting brighter and both of you realized that you had in fact spent the entire night talking.
He asked you about where you lived, and you told him that there were underwater caves under the little isles; not far from the larger islands he lived on, and that was your home. He was blown away by how you lived quite close by but he had never seen you. Or any of your kind.
“Merpeople are good at hiding.” You replied. He smiled down at you softly.
“Well, I hope you won’t hide from me anymore.”
You talked for a while longer, then the sun began to rise on the horizon. “I should go.” You said, really not wanting to.
Bucky wanted to spend more time with you. “We will meet again, won’t we?” he asked, voice laced with hope and chagrin already because you were leaving.
“Sure. We will.”
“How will I find you again?” he asked, worried that this might be the first and last time you met. And he knew he had to see you again because he won’t be able to stay away for too long.
You answered before you swam away. “Come by the isles at nightfall whenever you want. And call out my name, I’ll be there.”
Bucky smiled as he watched you swim away, knowing that he was already whipped and catching feelings.
-
Heeding your words, two days later Bucky found himself rowing to the isles, where you said you’d show up if he called out your name. He did, and a few seconds later, he heard the splashing of water and within the next second or two; you swam towards him.
“Hi! I didn’t think you’d come back again.” you smiled as you approached his boat again. He smiled brightly as soon as he saw you.
“I had to. I needed to see you again.”
You two ended up sitting on the rock, by the shore of one of the smaller isles and you talked again; after Bucky managed to take his eyes off you. You found his amazement rather adorable.
“I heard humans say that staring was rude.” You teased softly.
He chuckled and looked down at his feet dipped in water, right beside your beautiful fins. “Sorry, you’re too pretty.”
Something inside you fluttered again. And it did so each time he rowed towards the isles to come and meet you.
And as time went by, he came by more and more frequently. And you found yourself rejoicing each moment spent with him.
He did the same. Making his way to the isles and meeting you became his favorite thing to do. And each time, you would share more and more about your life with him, and he did the same. Your conversations would get deep and intimate and personal often. Over the first few weeks, he learnt more about your family. How you didn’t have parents, and most of your siblings and friends had migrated elsewhere. And you learnt about how he grew up with his best friend Steve’s family, and he had never met his own parents.
You laid your head on his shoulder the night he told you all about his childhood and how he missed his parents. Bucky circled an arm around you and pressed his cheek to the top of your damp hair. You grabbed his hand and held it in between yours.
“It’s okay,” you said softly. “You’re not alone anymore.”
Your words meant so much to him. It made him feel warm and complete. He had never felt this way before, definitely never felt this way for anyone else.
-
The night he first kissed you was just as emotional and raw.
“Must be so beautiful down there.” He said in awe, referring to your life underwater. You smiled.
“It is. Very beautiful, but it’s also lonely.” You replied.
“Why so?”
You then explained to him how it all worked down there. Merpeople was slightly different than humans when it came to choosing a partner and settling down. Most merpeople found their partners at an early age and over time their bond grows stronger and stronger until they’re grown adults and are able to migrate wherever they wish to go and have families of their own.
You continued, “Almost everyone I know have found their mate, and it won’t be long until they all leave to live their lives and have families. And I’ll be left here alone because I haven’t found my one.” you sounded so upset that Bucky felt as though someone had pierced a dagger through his heart.
He reached out and held your chin and turned your head towards his. He admired your face, and your features. “Perhaps you’ve been looking in the wrong places.” He whispered, enchanted by the look in your glossy eyes.
Your heart skipped a beat at the proximity. “Perhaps I have.” You whispered back and before you could think of anything else, his lips were on yours.
He poured everything he felt into that first kiss. His adoration, his warmth and his feelings – you could feel it all. His soft lips brushed against your own as he gently cupped your face and deepened the kiss. His tongue slipping into your mouth and stroking the top of your mouth gently. He bit your lip and made you smile through the kiss. He pulled away to allow you sometime to breathe, he rested his forehead against yours and kept his eyes closed as he relished the feeling of you being in his arms.
“I am hopelessly falling in love with you.” he whispered after he recovered from the kiss. It was true because he had never felt this way with anyone before. Being with you brought him comfort and warmth and he never knew he could love someone this much.
You smiled and pulled away to look into his shiny, ocean blue eyes. “I think I am falling for you as well.”
From then on, your love only grow more and more and it solidified as it went.
-end of flashback-
“Buck! Where are you going? You can’t leave yet, we’ve barely begun!” a tipsy Steve called out after Bucky as he tried to get away from the feast as sneakily as possible because he was already late for his rendezvous with you.
“I…uh, there’s something I need to take care of. Be right back!” he shouted at his friend over the noise of the celebration. He lied, Bucky knew he would be with you on the rocks by the shore of the isle at least until sunrise.
He got to the harbor and took a rowing boat and hurried over to you. He knew you’d be waiting, as always.
Bucky smiled as he got closer and closer to the isle. And despite having done this almost each night for the past many months, he could still never get used to the sight of you sat there waiting for him. On the highest rock by the shore, you smiled as you saw his boat approaching. Bucky could never get over how pretty you looked, with your long, damp hair down and your shiny tail. You looked no less than a goddess when the moonlight shone down on you.
Bucky always found it adorable how your fins would flutter quicker and quicker against the rock in excitement as he got closer and closer to you. He left the boat on the shore then hurried his way over to you on top of the rock, engulfing you in his strong arms immediately.
You wrapped your arms around him at once, embracing his warmth as he embraced the cold droplets of water on your skin. He kissed your forehead and you looked up and he whispered, “Hello, my love.” and he bent down to kiss your lips.
You kissed him back and pulled away to look at him. Just the sight of his face filled your heart with warmth. “I’ve missed you.” you said as he made himself comfortable beside you and scooted closer to you.
He smiled and reached up to stroke your cheek with his warm hand. “I know,” he cooed and lazily caressed your damp skin, “I was at the feast and they wouldn’t let me leave early.” He explained and you seemed all excited at the sound of the feast.
“Tell me all about it!” you placed your head on his shoulder as he told you all about how they were celebrating yet another victory of theirs. You could listen to his voice forever; it was calming almost like a lullaby.
When he finished giving you all the details, you sighed and mumbled, “I wish I could be there.”
He sensed the sadness in your voice. “I wish so too, sweetheart.” He tightened his grip around you, letting you know that no matter what barrier there was, he was here with you.
You pulled away from him and stared into his eyes. “I went looking again today. But…” you sighed again, closing your eyes briefly. “I won’t give up, Buck.”
Bucky knew what you were talking about. “Sweetheart, it could be a myth. I don’t want you to risk your safety and all that you have while looking for something that may not exist at all.” He reasoned.
You shook your head, a little stubborn as always. “No, you’re all I have. I want to be with you in the long run. And I’m not giving up on it.”
What you were talking about was a story that you had heard since you were a kid. Amongst merpeople, there was a legend that stated that in the depths of the ocean, somewhere in a deep cave lied a magical potion which could give merpeople the ability to walk the lands. The story goes that long, long ago, some of the first merpeople created said potion using ancient magic as a means to protect their kind from extinction. Should the oceans get too dangerous and inhabitable one day, merpeople could then move on land and continue existing in human form.
You had heard the story countless times, and no one ever really believed it just like most beings don’t believe in myths. But now, now that you had met Bucky and fallen in love with him, you wished with all your heart that the legend was indeed true and that you could find the potion one day, and hopefully share your life properly with Bucky. And for a while now, you’ve been obsessively looking for it.
When Bucky first heard you talking about it, he was thrilled. Then, he began thinking; was he being selfish by helping you nourish this hope? What if it was indeed a myth, and didn’t exist? Was he being selfish by encouraging this desire of yours to walk on land, when you belonged to the ocean?
“You’re awfully quiet today.” You pointed out when you noticed that he seemed deep in thought.
He voiced out his concerns regarding you finding that potion. “I mean, I can’t help but feel as though I’m asking for too much. You were born here, and I’ll be asking you to leave it all behind. For me. It makes me feel selfish.”
You sighed and laced your fingers with his. “What if the situation was reversed? And you somehow find out that there’s a way for you to come and live with me in my world. Would you do the same for me?” you asked.
He was quick to reply. “In a heartbeat.” He lifted your intertwined hands and placed a kiss on the back of your hand. “You know I would do anything for you.”
You smiled at him. “It’s the same for me. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you. Just trust me on this, it’s only a matter of time before I find it. And then we can be together, actually together. And you can show me around your home.”
Bucky wanted that as well. He would give up anything and everything just to have you beside him all the time, to bring you home and share his life with you. But he was worried. The ocean, as beautiful as it was, it was also unpredictable and dangerous. And the thought of losing you because you went after this potion was scary, and he was sure that if something ever happened to you while you went looking for this potion, the guilt would kill him in no time.
He wasn’t too much of a fan of your obsession with finding that potion. If it truly existed, if, then it was said that the path which led to it was dark and dangerous. Deep waters where supposedly monsters lurked around, protecting the potion from getting in the hands of wrong merpeople. The thought of you getting hurt down there where he couldn’t reach nor help you made Bucky tremble in fear.
“Just be careful, alright. I can’t lose you sweetheart, I just can’t. Okay?” he made sure you understood how serious he was regarding your safety.
You nodded smiling, and leaned in for a kiss.
Bucky got back on his boat to leave just before the crack of dawn. And as usual you swam alongside his boat till you could, seeing him off as he went away for the day. Then you would always part with a sweet kiss.
Bucky held your chin gently as he leaned down for a kiss. You remained by the side of his boat for a while longer. And then he saw your eyes getting glossy again. He reached out to stroke your cheek, “You always get teary when we get here.” He pointed to the shallow water.
You sniffled. “I just wish that one day, I can go further than this. With you.”
Bucky sighed as your reply. He didn’t like how you often blamed yourself for the barrier that was there, naturally, between the two of you. “Hey,” he tilted your head up slightly. “I love you.”
“I love you more.”
He smiled and kissed your forehead again. “Now go and get some sleep. And don’t go wandering off too far.” He always told you that, fearing that one day you might swim too far and won’t be able to find your way back to him.
That fear of his formed on the day you told him that once when you were a kid, you wandered off too far from home and got lost and couldn’t find your way back until one of your older siblings came to find you. The mere thought of you lost and alone in unknown waters and the idea of never seeing you again sent unpleasant chills down his spine.
You giggled at his warning and swam away. He watched you as you went, heard the splashes of water as you swam further away. Then it all stopped, meaning you were in deeper water, on your way home.
Bucky cared a lot about you and he didn’t want you to be heartbroken over not being able to find that potion. Yet at the same time he wanted you to find it so you two could be together forever. But then he was always filled with the guilt of being selfish for even thinking so.
He didn’t want you to change, despite how much you wanted to do so, just to be with him. Yet, the thought of letting you go was next to impossible. Bucky was conflicted, and so were you sometimes. But the one thing you were dead sure about was one another and both of you were willing to do whatever it takes to preserve your love. Bucky just hoped that it doesn’t get to a point where the only option would be letting you go for your own well-being.
Then again, no love story came without challenges and tragedies…

WIP Wednesday
Thanks for the tag @daisybarks
I’m tagging @kiki-the-creator @hopeshoodie @juggalohenrik @eskiix and @rennell
This is a little snippet from enough for you, which is my most recent WIP. This is the cheating fic, which I’ve likely referenced. This might not make sense out of context.
The other three piled into the back, Aislinn in the middle and the other two having window seats. Bobby handed the others their food and sat back with his arms folded. “Aw, come on! I wanted shotgun! And why is this car such a mess?” Bobby grumbled, his heart not fully in it.
“It was worse than this. We actually cleared it slightly to make room for everyone. And Marisol did say that one of us could take shotgun, and I let Lucas have it because he’s taller.” Hope pointed out once she chewed her mouthful.
“It smells weird in here too. Is there an air freshener?”
“It’s broken. Olivia forgot to replenish it. I haven’t noticed the smell if I’m honest, I’m used to it.” Marisol finished her breakfast, grabbing the empty bags and got out of the car, binning them and made her way back to the car, putting on her seatbelt. As she started the car, the sat nav came on and she left it there. She was going to try and rely on her memory, which might not be the best idea.
Once everyone plugged in their seatbelts, they set off. Marisol followed signs for the motorway until she got stuck in a queue getting onto the M4. It was crawling, and she opened the windows to let some fresh air in. The air conditioning only blew hot air and was next to useless.
As the car stopped, Bobby started rooting around at his feet until he discovered a bag full of ketchup bottles and another bag of chocolate, crisps, nuts and sweets. In addition to the two bags, there was a lot of sweet stuff sitting on the floor.
“Who needs an entire bagful of ketchup bottles? Eight bottles in one bag!” He studied the bag, slightly perplexed.
“Wait, what? So that’s where all the ketchup went! I kept buying bottles, and Olivia clearly kept swiping them. Eight bottles, really?” Marisol’s eyes widened at the mention of the ketchup. Bobby handed Lucas the bagful of ketchup, who studied it himself.
“Most of these are open, and half full. What’s the point of starting a new one when the old one is already half full? I was checking that side of the car as well, how did I miss this?” Lucas checked the bottles in the bag. “Some of these are expired too, quite the stash! One or two years out of date.”
“Eww. See what you can salvage, and we’ll bin the rest when we get to the beach. What a waste of good ketchup, I even bought Heinz! I can’t believe she was stealing it.” Marisol stared at the bag, slightly miffed. “That being said…I did use it for a lot of meals, I did have a little ketchup problem. It would vanish every single time we had an argument. Which means she was taking it then to be petty, likely. It’s a major pet peeve, she sees it as such a waste.”
“More of a waste is definitely her stealing it, as of course you’d buy more! Does the money she’s wasting ever come into it?” Aislinn asked.
“Nope, no way. She’s the type who broke her phone last month and had her parents buy her the newest iPhone in replacement. It wasn’t even cracked or damaged, so she let me have it. I changed everything over, her parents aren’t paying for my phone as well. It was going to go to waste completely otherwise, she would’ve just binned it.” Marisol laughed slightly at the idea of Olivia even thinking about money. The same person who regularly spent £400 on clothes per week and went on regular shopping sprees definitely wasn’t the type to care about the money she’s wasting.
She looked back at the road just as the queue moved and moved forward again. “Found anything else that is edible? There’s bound to be food hanging about.”
“Gummy worms, gummy bears, strawberry laces, Strawbs, this bag is all sweets. There’s a soft container of Pringles too, I wouldn’t touch those. There’s also unopened bags of fruit and nuts so I’ll take those out. Most of the chocolate is fine too, and the unopened crisp bags. This is quite the stash! Half of it is empty packets. Did she just use the car for a dustbin?” Bobby handed Lucas the dodgy snacks, who just bagged them with the dodgy ketchup.
“She pretty much used the car as a bin, yup. And she kept stealing the sweet stuff from the flat, so I had to keep hiding my biscuits and chocolate. Eventually we agreed that she would buy her own sweet stuff and quit taking mine. Guess I didn’t clarify that sweet stuff meant ketchup too, and she couldn’t just steal stuff in petty revenge.” Marisol explained. To her relief, the queue started moving quickly and she took advantage, getting onto the motorway without too much fuss. She wasn’t a fan of driving on motorways.
“The window’s not working again, could you please open it from your side?” Lucas asked.
Marisol opened both windows, the car was starting to get absolutely roasting. The feet smell was starting to get to her slightly.
“The windows in the back don’t work, by the way. Hopefully you guys are fine with just these ones open.” Marisol called in the direction of the back, the others nodded in response.
“Can we get rid of some of the mess at the beach? There’s sandwich containers, coffee cups and something squishy back here.” Bobby prodded the something squishy and took his hand away fast. “That’s definitely gum. Why has she stuck that on the back of the seat?” He pulled it off with a tissue, wiping away the residue.
“We can get rid of the leftovers, coffee cups and sandwich containers at least. Or anything that’s gone off. The rest of it, I don’t know what she wants done with it. She might’ve left, but it’ll seem a bit too final to clear out nearly all of it…” Marisol’s voice faded slightly and she bit her lip. “Look, I’m not overly pleased with the state of it myself. But I’ve got bigger fish to fry currently. I’ve had too many arguments with Olivia over it, and she made it worse to mess with me. I gave up mentioning it eventually. You’ve been complaining so much, it’s getting on my nerves.”
Marisol focused on the road ahead, chewing on her lip.
“Yeah, you’ve made your point. Maybe me and Lucas are just more used to it, but it’s been far worse than this before.” Hope broke in before Bobby decided to reply.
“Why didn’t we just split into two cars anyway? I wouldn’t have minded driving, and it’s a little cramped in the back. Driving’s not ideal, I prefer shotgun, but Lucas nabbed that. We could’ve split into me and Lucas in one car, and you three in this one.” Bobby grumbled.
Lucas stared at Marisol in panic, his eyes widened at Bobby’s statement. “That wouldn’t work. You barely paused for breath when we got lost yesterday, and during the first film of the Harry Potter marathon. I couldn’t handle it then, being trapped in a car with just you wouldn’t work.”
Marisol’s mouth twitched, and she struggled to not burst into laughter, putting on the radio instead. Classical music burst out of the speakers, and she jumped. Aislinn quickly synced up her phone to the radio, attaching it via a charging wire. She instructed Lucas in the front, who followed her instructions and in no time at all, a playlist replaced the classical music.
“Phew. I forgot Olivia always listens to Classic FM, on loud. She’s even had noise complaints, from classical music of all things. And, Bobby, if you want to drive on the way back, be my guest! It made completely no sense to split into two cars just because you couldn’t handle the mess.” The hot car was making Marisol slightly grumpy, and she snapped at him.
The car fell silent as they became absorbed in the music. Marisol and Aislinn had done far too much drunk karaoke, and she recognised the playlist from that. Hold the Line started playing and Marisol started singing along to it, forgetting the others were in the car. The energy carried through the car and lasted until the end of the song. She stopped, slightly breathless and blinked, wide eyed.
“Wow. I forgot how good you were at this. My favourite karaoke partner ever. Maybe we should try it again, but sober?” Aislinn said.
Her words stunned Marisol slightly, and she blushed. “R...Really? You think I’m that good? I doubt that, I freeze up on stage. Drunk karaoke is slightly different.” Yeah, no. That’s not happening. Not after that time in secondary school, when you auditioned for the school talent show and got so nervous that you were sick backstage, and your throat closed up while on stage. You couldn’t sing anything and tripped coming off stage on a loose shoelace and wiped out. To make matters worse, it was recorded and passed around the school until you were known for that. Your sister hated being associated with you as a result and it was so embarrassing.
Marisol fell silent, chewing on her lip and listening to the music. She signalled and moved into the left lane, ready to come off the motorway.
She focused entirely on driving and only relaxed when she got to the car park. She parked and let out a sigh of relief. “No sat nav needed at all, and not a foot wrong. That proves it, I’ve got a better sense of direction than Olivia.”
“I’m pretty sure everyone does.” Bobby pointed out. “Along with being better at being on time. I had to tell her a fake time for my birthday two months ago and she was still late.”

Abraham Ford x Plus size!reader
Word Count: 1506 words
Warnings:none
Summary: Abraham saves your life, and you can’t help but feel indebted to him after that
——————————————————————————————————
You had just recently joined the construction crew of Alexandria a few days ago but you were a pretty fast learner and Deanna was confident that you would be okay.
Still, you couldn’t help but be nervous about it.
You weren’t really all that experienced outside the walls and you weren’t really itching to get out there where the dead were walking the earth. That wasn’t something you were super excited for.
...But you knew that you had to do your part.
Alexandria worked under the ideal that everyone worked for their keep and if this was where they needed you, then you were going to do your best for as long as you could.
The day started out fine.
You rode in with Torbin, Francine, and Bruce, immediately getting to work looking for parts and any bits of scrap metal you could use on the new addition to the wall.
At your back, you heard Tommy and Torbin striking up a conversation with the newest addition to the crew, a redhead named Abraham. He was part of the group from the outside, and as best you could tell, he would be a good resource.
If nothing else, he was a big guy and as stubborn as a mule. You didn’t have to know him all that well to gather that much. It would be good to have someone like that around.
...And as the day progressed, your opinion on the matter strengthened.
There were no dead ones as best you could tell, or at least, there hadn’t been. Every once and awhile, a straggler would surface and one of you would have to put it down but never a herd.
Never something like what you found yourself in the middle of right now.
You had only taken down one or two of those things in your life, and you didn’t really have all the confidence in the world with those gnashing teeth and dead eyes staring you down.
Frankly, you were sure that you were going to die when they started closing in around you but Abraham wasn’t going to let that happen.
You had wandered a little farther from the perimeter than the others in your search for scrap metal but when you seemed to be in some trouble, no one moved to help you.
The entire crew, with the exception of Abraham, stood in their place, behind the cover of the truck as you tried your best to get out of the pickle you’d found yourself in.
They were going to let you die.
Though, just as you came to terms with the fact that those dead bastards were going to tear you apart, a pipe came out of nowhere. Abraham had come racing to your side, and was smashing skulls left and right.
It all happened so fast.
You had no idea where he’d come from or why he would put himself in harm's way for you but by the time you could even comprehend any of that, they were already gone.
The huge hoard of the dead that had gathered around you had all fallen victim to the male, and were scattered around you.
“You alright there, Darling?”
His voice came out of nowhere, a large hand falling on your back gingerly as if to shake you from the shock you were currently feeling. That was the first time you actually got a good look at Abraham.
You had looked at him before, of course, but not like this. In this moment, you saw him in a different light than before.
He wasn’t just some guy who had showed up and was going to help out. Now he was the guy who saved your life when no one else was going to and that affected you a little bit.
Abraham could have died, but he came to your rescue anyway. What were you supposed to say after that? Did you thank him? Hug him? You had no idea.
“Thank you” you started, knowing fully that wasn’t going to even cover what he’d just done for you, but it was a start.
Not that he seemed to even see the gravity in what he’d just done for you. In fact, he actually shrugged when you spoke. It really didn’t seem like a big deal to him.
“Don’t mention it” he hummed, reaching out to gently take your shoulders in his hands, trying to calm you. You were shaking like a leaf, understandably after what you’d just been through and he wanted to get you home.
The rest of the team could handle this while he was gone.
After all they had just done, they could work their fingers to the bone and he still would have no sympathy for them. All those people who claimed to care for you would have left you to die.
There was no excusing that.
“Come on. I’ll drive you back” he offered, though it seemed much more like an order in the way he spoke. It was clear to you that Abraham wasn’t offering more than telling.
You weren’t in a head space to keep searching for scrap, not out in the open.
There would still be a spot for you on the crew tomorrow after you’d had some time to come to terms with what you’d just been through.
There was silence in the car on the ride over, though you took notice of the way his free arm stayed across the headrest of your chair.
It made you feel protected and after everything he’d just done for you, it was only natural that you got a little more connected to Abraham than you did before.
You couldn't help it.
“I really do need to thank you. There was no way I’d still be here if it wasn’t for you” you spoke finally, your voice breaking through the silence.
Abraham, who had been focused on the road, let his eyes drift to the side to glance at you before snapping back, a small smirk on his face.
“it's no big deal darling, really”
There was a confidence in his voice, something that confused you, but you would be lying if you said it wasn’t comforting. There was something so nice about him, something you couldn’t have seen coming before now.
It was a huge deal.
Frankly, Abraham had saved your life and you had absolutely no idea how he was being so casual about this whole thing. Still, you could tell that he was really not searching for any kind of verbal thanks, so you let it go.
Instead, you chose to focus on something else that you could do for him, that he probably hadn’t had in a while.
“I’m going to make you dinner tonight, at my house, seven o’clock” you decided finally, waiting until it was time for you to get out of his truck before announcing that to him, so that he couldn’t refuse.
After what he’d done for you today, especially when none of your own friends would, you owed him something and a home cooked meal was just the thing.
...And before Abraham had a chance to argue, you were gone, just as you’d planned it.
~
You had no idea what you wanted to make that would be good enough as a thank you, especially with all the restrictions you were under in rationing but you knew that you could make something work.
Thankfully, you found a box of spaghetti in the back of your cabinet that you forgot about, and once you’d retrieved a few beers and a can of sauce for the pasta, you were all set.
Now, you just had to wait for Abraham to show up, which he did, right on the dot.
Honestly, you weren’t completely sure that he would come in the first place, but you should have known that with the background he had, there wasn’t a chance in hell he’d be late.
“Thank goodness I wasn’t running late” you joked, opening the door immediately to him, a huge smile on your face.
All Abraham could do was chuckle slightly, obviously a bit uncomfortable with the comment. Perhaps he should have waited a little longer before coming here.
Though, before he could panic, you grinned.
“It’s okay, I’m only teasing” you assured, reaching out to hand him a cold beer from your fridge. You weren’t completely sure how this was going to go, but you knew that you had to do this.
As odd a request as it was, it was all you knew to do as any kind of thank you for what he’d done for you.
If nothing else, it gave you a chance to get to know Abraham a little better than maybe you would have. Of all the members of his group, he just interested you the most.
He was a blank canvas and you wanted so badly to fill in the blanks you had where he was concerned.
Besides, no one needed an excuse to have pasta anymore.

They’re Playing Our Song (Part 1)
Summary: Y/N has no idea how to dance, and Bucky insists on teaching her

Bucky stood alone in the kitchen, his hair settled nicely in a low bun as he stirred the boiling pasta, Duke Ellington playing softly in the background.
He finally had the compound to himself, with the rest of the team out at one of Tony’s fancy galas to promote a new invention he’d whipped up; something to do with his micro-technology.
Bucky hadn’t listened very well to the details, excited at the idea of having time to himself. Since his therapy in Wakanda had concluded, he’d been bombarded with team exercises, missions, and press conferences discussing his recovery and being one of the team’s newest additions. Bucky had grown to love the team as if they were his own family, and after a long process; reconciled with Tony to the point of civility, even going as far to say develop a friendship.
Yes, he’d loved all of them dearly, but my god were they overwhelming. They were boisterous and energetic, it reminded him of the Howling Commandos from all those years ago…
But as of late; with things like press, adjusting to the team, awaiting the public’s full acceptance of him, as well as Tony’s… it was all a bit too much. Bucky just needed some time to himself; cook some of his mother’s recipes and listen to his Dad’s old records. Though he didn’t have the actual records, Spotify was just as good. He reminisced as he listened and cooked; thinking of his father twirling his mother in their kitchen while the radio played, his sister and him watching from the dinner table. They had both passed away when he was very young, but it comforted him to remember how happy they’d been in the time they had.
Bucky had been adding some spices to his sauce, when he heard the slow shuffling of feet coming down the hallway. He’d thought everyone had left, and was surprised to see Y/N sleepily entering the kitchen.
“Oh, hey Buck. I didn’t know you were here.” Y/N was just as surprised to see him, expecting everyone to have left by now. Bucky looked over her figure, her clothes rustled from sleep and hair slightly messy.
He smiled, “Hey Y/N. Isn’t it a little late to be getting up?”
Y/N grinned tiredly at his teasing, “Took a nap, little tired from today.”
She yawned as she recounted to Bucky the day’s events; she and Nat had returned from a mission in Barcelona. Clearly the time difference hadn’t affected Nat as much as it had Y/N, as soon as they got off the plane Nat had been buzzing with excitement for the gala. She pleaded with Y/N to come, but she wearily declined.
“-Besides, I’m not much of a party person anyways.”
Bucky nodded in understanding, “I get it. But I'm surprised you didn’t go, this could’ve been your big debut kid.”
Y/N had recently joined the team, only a short time before Bucky. With his new arrival, she had been somewhat washed over as the press became focused on Bucky. Not that she minded of course, Y/N wasn’t one to beg for the spotlight, content to be doing the work she needed to do behind the scenes.
Y/N scoffed at that, “I think I would’ve got a little lost in the crowd.”
Bucky laughed, and Y/N raised her eyebrows in question. “What? You don’t think so?”
Bucky continued stirring his sauce, “You? Never. You light up a room, doll.”
With his back turned from her, he didn’t see Y/N’s reddened cheeks as she laughed. Bucky had always been one to playfully praise and flirt, she knew there wasn’t a heavy tone to it but she couldn’t help but be flattered by his remarks. He often complimented her in small ways; in fine details about her character. An ovation of her laugh, a regard of her kindness.
Y/N always wanted to return the favour, but she didn’t know how to approach it as casually as he did; she couldn’t with how seriously she meant them.
But what Y/N took as ‘pats on the back’ from Bucky actually held much more admiration than she was aware. Bucky was completely infatuated with her. And to everyone else, he was transparent in his affections. But he knew Y/N; she was shy, soft-spoken, and completely oblivious to any attention that ever came her way.
Of course she was strong, powerful. She was a part of the team after all, but the hero you are on the battlefield doesn’t always reflect the person you are at home. She was clueless.
So he’d patiently wait and once she took notice of what had been blatantly handed to her all this time, he would let her decide what to do with it. The day she took notice, if it ever came, he would go from there. And if by any chance she liked him back, Bucky would be the happiest man in the world. He just had to be patient.
“Well, even if you’re right,” she started, “I don’t know if I’d really fit in there. The talking, the loud music, and I’m not much of a drinker… two glasses of champagne and I’d be done.” Y/N hopped up onto the kitchen counter as Bucky cooked, swinging her legs back and forth over the edge.
Bucky shrugged as he poured the sauce over the pasta, “You get used to it.” He admitted. Back in his day, he had been a social butterfly but it hadn’t come easy. His family had been fortunate enough during the Great Depression, and he followed his father along to crowded events with big wigs and party goers. After many introductions to strangers by his father, Bucky had to learn to socialize. He picked up the conversations, he poured drinks, he took girls out to dance. He became a true charmer.
“I had to learn when I was younger, it’s kind of like acting. Before you know it, you’ve learned to play the part perfectly.”
Y/N hummed in interest, “Then why didn’t you go tonight? Seemed like it’d be right up your alley.”
Bucky thought a moment as he prepared their plates, that had all been then. The bright eyed kid from Brooklyn, before the war. This was now, after everything he’d been through…
“Just not ready yet doll,” he responded honestly, “But someday, just you wait. I’ll shmooze up to all the suits, I’ll fit right in. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to get a dance out of me.” Bucky winked as he handed Y/N her plate, chuckling as she rolled her eyes.
“God I hope not.” She said, hopping off the counter and moving to the table.
Bucky feigned offence, “What? Scared I’ll step on your toes?”
He sat down, handing her a knife and fork as he joined her.
“Not at all,” she said. Y/N twirled her noodles with her fork, raising it to her lips, “truth is; I’d probably step on yours.”
Bucky chuckled, “You a bad dancer?”
“Not necessarily, just don’t know how.”
Bucky set down his own fork and looked at her in disbelief, “Whaddya mean you don’t know how?”
Y/N giggled at his outburst, “I’ve never danced before! Why is that so surprising?”
Bucky exhaled in frustration, “The people of today, I swear… how do you not know how to dance? That was the first thing my Mama ever taught me how to do properly!”
Y/N had grown up on a small farm in Iowa, any leisure time was spent running errands or helping out her parents. Dancing had been the last thing on their list of priorities; not that they’d had many dances in town. Though there was the Annual Hot Dish Tuna Fish jamboree, but Y/N often found herself too busy to go. Or dateless.
“I never had the time!” She admitted, “Wasn’t exactly on the top of my ‘to-do list’ Sarge.”
A soft trumpet had announced itself from the speaker, shortly after followed by Louis Armstrong’s scatting. Bucky smiled, wiping his mouth with his napkin before standing.
“Then I’m going to teach you.”
He stuck his hand out to Y/N as she looked at him, surprised.
“What, now?”
“Yes, now. No time better than the present” He reached for her hands, gently tugging her to rise and join him in the open space.
He felt Y/N tense a little as he placed a hand on the small of her back, other hand curling up into hers as he raised their arms together. “This okay?”
Y/N nodded, shyly looking down to her feet as Louis’ sung. “Uh, yeah. Yeah! I just, I dunno I feel silly.”
Bucky smiled as his brows furrowed, “We haven’t even started. You can’t look stupid not doing nothing.”
Y/N giggled, “Careful, your Brooklyn’s slipping out.”
Bucky shrugged slightly as he adjusted his hands on her, “Music brings it out of me I think.”
“Well, it’s quite charming. I can see how you’d get girls to dance with you back in the day.” She admitted.
Bucky thought back to the dive bars in the 30’s, the church dances, the jazz bands; and all the pretty girls he dipped and twirled to each and every song. Bucky had never been without a dance partner; but he couldn’t recall one he’d enjoyed having in his presence as much as her.
“I did have a number of gals to practice with, yes. But I’m tryna focus on this girl in front of me.” He teased.
“Right, right,” Y/N shook her head of her thoughts, “Sorry, continue.”
“So,” Bucky pulled her in closer to his hips, “I’ll give you some breathing room, but you’ve gotta get a little close. Helps me lead you.”
“Okay…” Y/N nipped her bottom lip in concentration, nearly halting Bucky’s thought process all together, “Now what?”
“Right, um,” Bucky rolled his shoulders to relax himself, “Don't be so stiff. Remember this is fun, just let loose.”
“You’re telling the wrong person to let loose.” Y/N remarked.
“Oh c’mon, I’ve seen you drink with Wilson, I know you can let loose.”
He slid his arm against her, curving his right elbow beneath her left arm. Y/N could feel the heat of his hand through her cotton shirt, and felt herself tense again.
“Relax, I’ve got you.”
She didn’t realize how close he’d been, the low rumble of his voice echoing in her ear. She felt herself shiver.
“I know you do.”
He smiled softly, “Place your left hand a bit higher. Now you just move with me.”
He guided her to the left, their feet shifting slowly with the beat of the music. As Y/N realized that there wasn’t much more to it than that, she felt herself ease into him more, into the soft music… they stayed that way awhile, comfortably swaying.
“See, it’s not that bad.” Bucky comforted, gently spinning them to the lyrics.
Y/N bit the inside of her cheek, “I guess not. It’s easy with you at least, I couldn’t say the same if I had a different partner.”
Bucky watched as her lip pulled into a soft grin, and a feeling of boldness grew in his chest.
“I guess you’ll just have to keep all your dances for me, then.”
Perfectly timed, the trumpets picked up and Bucky clutched her tightly, dipping her down with his strong arms.
Y/N’s eyes lit up as she happily giggled. She held on tightly but knew he’d pick her up with ease.
His became confident then, as he pulled her back to him before lifting her into the air. He started spinning as his strong hands rested against the skin of her thighs, holding her up. She couldn’t help but laugh as she looked to the ceiling, hands firmly gripping his shoulders. He was in awe then, over the moon to know that he was the cause of the happiness in those eyes. She looked back to him as he lowered her, feeling lighter than she had in months. She hadn’t had a moment like this in a long time; doing something new and fun, in the arms of someone she… trusted.
“Feeling good, doll?” He asked.
Her laugh was more melodic than the brass instruments, she was at a complete loss for words; fair too lost in the moment to give him a proper response.
“Again!” She exclaimed.
Bucky happily obliged, lifting her again as they both laughed.
They weren’t sure when the trumpets died down, or when the next song began. Or the song after that, or the song after that. They could’ve danced for hours, and maybe they did. They only separated when the team drunkenly stumbled in from their gala.
No one took note of their closeness, too disoriented from their own night of dancing and drinking.
They all talked about nothing important; remarking over the night's moments that Bucky and Y/N wouldn’t really understand unless they had been there.
But, neither of them really minded. They had shared moments of their own that had been worth missing the silly party.
They didn’t say a proper goodbye, Y/N mumbling a quick goodnight to him as the team settled in the main room.
“Awe c’mon, you’re not gonna say?” An inebriated Banner called out.
Y/N smiled sweetly, shaking her head. “Not tonight, I’m still pretty beat from Barcelona. But keep the party going for me.”
A chorus of disappointed groans filled the room, as well as a few joyous ‘goodnights’. Bucky watched as she exited, wanting to call out, wanting to do something. It didn’t feel right ending it like that. He felt like the moment was fleeting him now; like he was losing something special.
Defeated, he turned back to join the others.
“Hey.”
A soft voice called out, forcing Bucky to turn back. Y/N peeked around the corner, hand raised to wave slightly. “Thanks for tonight, I needed that.”
Bucky smirked slightly, but before he could respond, Y/N had already turned away and started down the hall.
It hadn’t been tonight, but maybe next time Bucky could say more. Maybe next time, he could say what he really wanted.

Chapter 12
Changbin was the first to know Jisung broke up with you in a letter. It didn’t sit well with him. He knew Jisung better than anyone and he still couldn’t figure this one out.
He was upset with himself for putting you in this position. If he hadn’t suggested this maybe you wouldn’t be hurting. He was furious with Jisung for hurting you. He was even mad that you waited so long to tell him.
He could sense you weren’t yourself and he thought it was because you were missing him just as much, little did he know you were heart broken. When he finally asked if you had sorted things out with Jisung you told him everything.
Changbin didn’t want to make things worse, but he knew he couldn’t sit on the sidelines. Changbin waited until everyone was exhausted from a day of press and recordings. He pulled Jisung aside on their way into the hotel. Jisung knew exactly what was coming. He felt like an asshole already, but he was about to feel much worse and he knew it.
“A fucking letter?” Changbin tried to keep his voice down but the anger was apparent.
Jisung looked to the ground. Changbin sighed. He knew Jisung wasn’t trying to be a jerk.
“She’s at home without any of us. I can’t even comfort her. You know you’re breaking her heart by doing this?” Changbin spat out everything he was thinking. He was furious and relieved and he missed you. It had been just over five weeks since he’d been able to wrap his arms around you.
“I didn’t have a choice.” Jisung sounded defeated. “I couldn’t keep doing this to her or myself. It would’ve dragged you down too.”
“Doing what?”
“I feel like the outsider, Changbin-ah!” Jisung exclaims as he holds his hands out in defeat. “I went from loving her in secret to loving her on the side line.”
“What if she really loves us the same?”
“Do you accept that?”Jisung’s shoulders slouched further forward if that was possible at this point. He turned to head toward the elevators. Changbin sluggishly followed as he thought about it.
“I want her to be happy.” Changbin said after thinking for a while. The elevator doors closed behind him as he looked at Jisung.
“At the cost of your own happiness? I thought I was going insane. Then I realized I don’t want the left overs. I don’t want..fuck man I don’t know.”
“You don’t want to wonder if you’re the only one who feels that much in the relationship.”
“You feel like that too?”
“I did.” Changbin shrugged. He was silent. Jisung pressed for more. Changbin took a deep breath. The elevator chimed and the doors opened. The young men stepped into the long hallway.
“I thought she loved you and she just pitied me.” Changbin said. Jisung stopped.
“Why?”
“Because she only ever talked about you for a while. She had this way she would get kind of nervous around me when I would get too close or something stupid. She always used to do it. When she really started falling for you, she quit doing it. She was so wrapped up in you.”
They began slowly walking again. Jisung mulled over this new information. He slowed down as they approached his room and decided to follow Changbin to his room instead.
“Then how did you guys even get together?” Jisung shook his head not understanding.
“I don’t give up that easily.” Changbin smirked.
“I’m not giving up.” Jisung defends himself.
“I never stopped what I was doing. It didn’t take long for her cute shy tendencies to return. She would try to deny them, but I saw them.” Changbin tossed his backpack down as he entered his room and turned to face Jisung.
“So?” Jisung leaned against the doorway.
“So, she didn’t stop loving me. She just started to love you too. It is weird sometimes, but it wasn’t the end of the world. If you’re tapping out that’s fine by me. I’ll have her back. But don’t be selfish and try to fuck with this later.”
Changbin’s words played over in Jisung’s head over the next few weeks. He pushed through. What could he do now? He already gave you the letter he was so sure about over a month ago. He hadn’t spoken with you since then and he didn’t think he could repair the damage.
“I don’t know whether to be exhausted or fucking hyped. That show was insane.” Chan laughed and fell back on the couch.
“Fucking exhausted.” Minho collapsed next to him.
“It was insane.” Hyunjin confirmed. “We should be hyped up right now...if I had the energy.” Hyunjin near fainted into one of the chairs.
“You guys are so old.” Jeongin rolls his eyes. He soon falls into the empty chair in closest proximity.
“I can’t wait to get home.” Changbin sighs.
“You want home cooking?” Seungmin questions.
“I want, ______.” He smiles wide.
“Aye, I hear there’s a spot open in your relationship.” Chan laughs.
“Fuck that.” Changbin shakes his head with a small smile.
“Too soon?” Chan questions with the biggest smile. Changbin laughs at Chan.
You were having such an off week, none of your newest suggestions were approved for either of the recent songs you had been working on. You felt defeated. Changbin tried his best to cheer you up via text message and sporadic video calls, but you knew his schedule was so hectic he couldn’t give you too much.
You were hesitant to text Jisung, but you told yourself you agreed with his final request to continue a friendship. He was your go to before all of this mess. You chewed on your fingernails and paced the studio. Maybe Chan would be a better choice, you thought.
You sighed to yourself for the hundredth time and tossed your phone on the couch. You thought better of it. Texting anyone was just going to create an even bigger mess. You’ve had creative blocks before and you can get yourself out of this one.
You called Somin and got voicemail. You decided to walk the building for inspiration instead. You smiled at vaguely familiar faces as you walked the halls. You remembered times with your boyfriend and immediately began to miss him all over again. You were stuck in a vicious cycle and decided to head to the cafe to stuff your sorrows down with sweets.
You put your headphones on and played back the additions to the track that were denied this morning. You made a few notes in the book you keep with you at all times. The piano may need to be used for your own song.
After you ordered a tea you hadn’t heard of before hoping to gain some sort of inspiration, you took a seat at your familiar table. Jisung passed through your mind. You forced the thoughts away. It was hard, but you were getting better at it. You knew they would be home in a few days and you had to figure out how to act normal. Whatever this new normal was.
You scribbled down some words that had been running through your head. Maybe you’ll come back to them when you figure out what to do with that piano. You thanked the waitress who brought your tea and took a sip.
“Blegh!” You nearly spit out the tea and stick your tongue out. You quickly try to recover as the waitress was not too far from your table and quickly turned to give you a look.
You made a mental note never to order that tea again. There was a hint of spice and sweet notes that gave this tea a false pleasurable aroma. It was so very bitter to the taste.
“Tastes like ass doesn’t it?” You look up to see the regular hair stylist that you wanted to hate.
“Honestly, it’s terrible.” You push the mug away.
“I’m Shane.” She holds her hand out to you.
“I know.” You smile. “I’m ______.”
“I know.” She giggles. “I’ve been jealous of you since I found out you were Chan’s best friend.”
“What?” You nearly choke. She, this beautiful dolled up goddess, was jealous of you?
“Seriously.” She took a seat across from you. “Chan is the hottest guy. I don’t know how you can’t melt when you’re around him.”
“He is pretty hot, but he’s seriously my best friend and I don’t know...” you immediately thought about your dream. You could nearly taste him, your dream was so vivid.
“You’ve never thought about it?” She questions.
“I mean..” you clear your throat.
“I knew it!” She laughs.
“You think you could put in a good word for me?”
“He hates being set up.” You laugh at the thought. “Like loathes it.” Shane’s big smile drops and she nods.
“Well thanks anyway?” She got up and left the coffee shop. You weren’t quite sure what that was about but you shrugged it off and gathered your stuff.
You had a few days to prepare for the guys to come home and you decided this place wasn’t where you should be spending you time. Jisung’s name was practically written all over this café.
There was nothing more comforting than your mini home studio. It didn’t have everything the company had of course, but it was nice and a lot of your best ideas came from here.
You took a seat and glanced at the couch thinking of the numerous make out sessions that took up half of your studio time the first month you started dating Jisung.
“Fuck!” You stood up and pushed your chair away. You decided to head to the kitchen and grab some ice cream. You plop down in your favorite spot and watch whatever pops up on TV. You’re going to have one hell of a time when they get home. Might as well mope while you have a chance, you thought.
Changbin dreamed about you on the flight home. His dream was so vivid and he was so happy he was bursting at the seems with joy. He was on a beautiful beach and all the guys were there, Chan and Jisung were right by his side and he heard Chan tell him to relax. Jisung’s hand fell to Changbin’s shoulder for reassurance.
“You know this is the right thing, man.” Jisung said.
“You got this, mate.” Chan affirmed. Changbin nodded at both of them. Taking a deep breath of refreshing sea air. He turned to see you walking towards him. Changbin was not an outwardly emotional man, but when he saw you, his bride, walking towards him he felt tears stinging his eyes.

Finally got around to typing up my Technoblade D&D build!!! I’ve been working on making these for a lot of the Dream SMP characters, and I thought it would be fun to have him in stat block format, so you too can throw c!Technoblade at your players as a final boss! (Disclaimer: I don’t know how accurate the CR level is, I just set it to 8 since the build is a lv8 build PC build.)
Image description and explanation/rambling below the cut!
[Image ID: A D&D stat block for Technoblade. It reads:
Technoblade
Medium humanoid (firbolg), Lawful Neutral
Armor Class: 18 (Half plate, defense fighting style)
Hit Points: 72 (8d12+24)
Speed: 40 ft.
STR: 18 (+4)
DEX: 14 (+2)
CON: 16 (+3)
INT: 14 (+2)
WIS: 13 (+1)
CHA: 6 (-2)
Saving Throws: Str +7, Con +6
Skills: Athletics +7, Intimidation +1, Perception +4, Survival +4
Damage Resistances: bludgeoning, piercing, slashing
Senses: passive Perception 14
Languages: Common, Elvish, Giant, Goblin
Challenge: 8 (3,900 XP)
Innate spellcasting. Technoblade's innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 12). He can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
1/short rest each: detect magic, disguise self
Speech of beast and leaf. Technoblade has the ability to communicate in a limited manner with beasts and plants. They can understand the meaning of his words, though he has no special ability to understand them in return. He has advantage on all Charisma checks he makes to influence them.
Powerful build. Technoblade counts as one size larger when determining his carrying capacity and the weight he can push, drag, or lift.
Unarmoured defense. When not wearing any armour, Technoblade's defense equals 15. He can use a shield and still gain this benefit.
Reckless. At the start of his turn, Technoblade can gain advantage on all melee weapon attack rolls he makes during that turn, but attack rolls against him have advantage until the start of his next turn.
Great weapon master. When Technoblade scores a critical hit with a melee weapon or reduces a creature to 0 hit points with one, he can make one melee weapon attack as a bonus action. Additionally, before Technoblade makes a melee weapon attack with a heavy weapon that he is proficient with, he can choose to take a -5 penalty to the attack roll. If the attack hits, he adds +10 to the attack's damage.
Warrior of the Gods. If a spell, such as Raise Dead, has the sole effect of restoring Technoblade to life (but not undeath), the caster doesn't need material components to cast the spell on Technoblade.
Divine fury. While Technoblade is raging, the first creature he hits on each of his turns with a weapon attack takes extra necrotic damage equal to 1d6 + 3.
Action surge (1/rest). Technoblade takes one additional action on his turn.
Combat superiority (4/rest). Technoblade can apply the following maneuvers using his four superiority die (d8s):
Feinting attack: Technoblade expends one superiority die and uses a bonus action on his turn to feint, choosing one creature within 5 feet of his as his target. He has advantage on his next attack roll against that creature before the end of his turn. If that attack hits, add the superiority die to the attack's damage roll.
Menacing attack: When Technoblade hits a creature with a weapon attack, he can expend one superiority die to attempt to frighten the target. He adds the superiority die to the attack's damage roll, and the target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it is frightened of him until the end of his next turn.
Trip attack: When Technoblade hits a creature with a weapon attack, he can expend one superiority die to attempt to knock the target down. He adds the superiority die to the attack's damage roll, and if the target is Large or smaller, it must make a Strength saving throw (DC 15). On a failed save, he knocks the target prone.ActionsHidden step (1/rest).
As a bonus action, Technoblade can magically turn invisible until the start of his next turn or until he attacks, makes a damage roll, or forces someone to make a saving throw.
Greatsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.
Heavy Crossbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 100/400 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d10 + 2) piercing damage.
Multiattack. Technoblade can make 2 weapon attacks.
Rage (4/day). As a bonus action, Technoblade enters a rage that lasts for 1 minute, ending early if knocked unconscious or if Technoblade's turn ends and he hasn't attacked a hostile creature since his last turn or taken damage since then. He can also end his rage on his turn as a bonus action. While raging, Technoblade deals +2 damage, has advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws, and has resistance to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage. Technoblade cannot cast spells during a rage.
End ID.]
Okay. Rambling time.
Holy SHIT I loved making this. I tend to play spellcasters or dex based characters, so it was a lot of fun to make a str character for once.
Stats first. As a barbarian/fighter and also as a force of nature, str is his highest stat. I could have made it 20, but I have a weird aversion to writing up characters with maxed out stats for some reason? Anyway, that’s what he has. He can always boost it if he takes another level in fighter. I also decided to give him pretty high intelligence and wisdom, which are rare in barbarian characters, since, y’know, their main point is to hit things very hard. But Techno is so, SO resourceful, and one of the main reasons that he’s so good at fighting is because he does his research and acquires the best items for it and puts himself in the right place at the right time. Hence the high-ish int. I feel a little bad making his charisma so low, but cha represents several things, most notably the ability to talk to people and force of personality. Also known as: how hard it is to be swayed or controlled, magically or otherwise. Remember what happened at the festival? That’s low charisma. Also I had to give him a low stat to balance the fact that he’s insanely good at so many fucking things. Why.
As a side note, when picking his proficiencies, I was using the homebrew rule that you can use your strength modifier when you roll for intimidation. So his Strength (Intimidation) check would actually have a +7, which is MUCH better than the Charisma (Intimidation) check of +1. Big strong characters are absolutely scary, damnit, and I will die on that hill.
Next up: race. I HAD to make him a firbolg. They’re connected with nature and are often portrayed with animalistic features (e.g. Caduceus Clay from Critical Role), and it means we can have both pig Techno and anime Techno, since firbolgs naturally have the disguise self spell. I just think that’s neat. They also get the ability to turn invisible! Which Techno has been doing a LOT recently! Sure, firbolgs can only do it for a turn, but it still fits.
Onto classes. Barbarian was a dead certain for Techno, honestly - his battle prowess, how he acts when he fights, it just fits so well. Even his use of potions - he gets a lot of buffs from them, increased damage and damage resistance being the two most notable and the two that best translate to D&D rage. Even speed potions - barbarians get +10ft movement speed at level 5. And barbarians are made for two-handed weapons, so obviously I HAD to give him a greatsword. The Orphan Obliterator is a deadly weapon. He also still favours swords even when axes are better in the newest version, so a greatsword was a must. Also I just really like greatswords.
I wavered a bit when picking a subclass, to be honest. I’m not really a big fan of any of the official subclasses (they don’t really fir my playstyle, which is why I homebrewed an entire new subclass for my barbarian character, but that’s a post for another day), but looking through, there were a few that could work. Originally, I picked Juggernaut - this was because of how he fought during the Dream battle, moving Dream around the arena into a more advantageous position for Techno, which is the Juggernaut’s 3rd level ability in a nutshell. They also can’t be knocked prone, and both of these things work INCREDIBLY well for skywars/bedwars style combat - staying put on this island and knocking off your opponents.
However, in the end, I decided to go with Zealot. It was inevitable after he REALLY started building his character on the Dream SMP, which is what this is mostly based on. Zealots have two main points: they follow a God, and it’s very, VERY hard to kill them.
Sound familiar?
Techno isn’t just a barbarian - he also has three levels of Battlemaster fighter. The barbarian/fighter combo is one of the best there is for sheer combat power (bested only, in my opinion, by barbarian/moon druid - those characters are actually unkillable) and the choice of Battlemaster specifically opened up so many options in combat. I had debated going with champion, just for the crit probability boost, but ultimately decided that Battlemaster was infinitely more fun. The three maneuvers were picked for a combination of reasons - they’re all incredibly useful in combat, but I also just thought they were thematically accurate and/or funny. I just had to give him Menacing Attack, because one of the few constants in Technoblade’s combat is people running the hell away from him during competitions. Feinting is for pure combat ability, and Trip is just. Really funny to me. It worked better when he was Juggernaut and literally couldn’t be knocked prone, but I just like the idea of someone using their full action to try and knock over this eight foot tall firbolg (they’re so fucking tall! This bitch is massive!) Technoblade just. Looking down at them before knocking them clean off of their feet with one swing of his Greatsword.
And finally, weapons and magical items. The magic ones didn’t actually make it onto the stat block, because I wanted it to be purely basic character building, but I absolutely had some ideas. Some of these were rolled on loot tables, some were completely homebrewed to fit Techno’s canon weapons. Guess which ones lmao.
magical heavy crossbow (use charge to fire 3 bolts simultaneously, using only one arrow, rolling an attack for each. Each target must be within 10ft of each other. 7 charges per day)
explosive bolts (10ft radius, double dice of the weapon it’s fired from, dex save)
mithral half-plate
ring of feather falling
trident of flight (attunement) (30ft swim and flight speed, 120ft flight speed when its raining)
upgraded cape of the mountebank (8 charges, 2 for misty step, 4 for dimension door) (yes it looks like his normal cape)
bag of holding
sword of life-stealing (attunement) (I don’t know why I added this except Techno’s canon sword would be VERY hard to homebrew and also he can do enough damage with a normal one so he could literally just have like a +2 or something. Do what you want)

UnderBelly{ Sweet Pea: Chapter One
Tumblr media
Stephanie "Stevie" Jones was standing at her so called "locker" when her pinked best friend joined her, "Yes, Toni?" Stevie turned her attention to look at her, who just sent her a smile.
"Your brother is coming today so I can show him around. How ya feeling?" Toni asked, as Stevie turned back to her locker, grabbing her jacket before shutting it and turning back to Toni
"Fine. I see him all the time at home now. Not really different. Except for the fact that now we'll literally be spending every second together. But, now you guys get to deal with another hot head." Stevie explained, linking her arm with Toni
"Wanna come with? I'm sure he'd feel better with a familiar face to help show him around." Toni asked, looking over at the brunette. Stevie shook her head in response, "Can't. I'm supposed to meet Sweet Pea at lunch."
Toni smirked at the mention of their tall friend and Stevie nudged her before turning to walk to the stairs that led to the cafeteria, "Wipe the smirk off your face Topaz. He's just a friend."
"I'm just saying. You two have been hanging out a lot more recently. Before, you two couldn't even be in the same room together without me and Fangs having to hold you guys from beating each other." Toni laughed, causing Stevie to glare at her.
They both turned to walk into the Cafeteria before Stevie stopped at the doorway. She felt a smile make its way across her face at the sight in front of her. Sitting on top of a table where other serpents sat, was Sweet Pea; laughing at whatever was said.
Toni couldn't help but smile at Stevie, knowing how happy she was when she was around Sweet Pea.
"I gotta go grab your brother. Save me a seat?" Toni saluted and turned to walk back up the stairs they just came down from. Stevie shook her head at her pink haired friend and turned to put on her jacket.
At southside high, if you weren't wearing a serpent or ghoulie jacket, you were up for grabs by the ghoulies. But with Stevie being the daughter of Fp Jones, meant that no one even dared to try anything with her.
Stevie made her way to where the Serpents were sitting, causing Sweet Pea to hop off the table and smile at her, "Hey there, princess."
Stevie groaned at the nickname and shoved past her tall friend, "We've talked about this. I hate that nickname." She plopped down on the bench next to Fangs, who sent her a smile and she winked at him in return.
Fangs Fogarty was the newest addition to the Serpents. Having joined at the start of the school year and Stevie thought he was absolutely adorable. He was attractive, she would give him that. Despite having just joined the serpents, him, Stevie, Toni, and Sweet Pea were basically the four musketeers.
Sweet Pea sat next to her and wrapped his arm around her shoulder, pulling her into his side, "Actually. You talked and I listened. And I decided that I'm gonna keep calling you that until I come up with something better."
Fangs had sent both of his friends a look at the sight of them being all lovey dovey at the lunch table. Sweet Pea and Stevie both threw up the middle finger and turned their attention to the conversation that took place before Stevie sat down.
While Stevie was distracted, she didn't see her brother or her best friend walk into the cafeteria but Jughead did notice his sister. Or rather who his sister was with.
"Who's that with my sister?" Jughead asked, pointing to said girl. Toni turned her head to see who he was pointing at and let a smile make its way across her face. Stevie was laughing at whatever Fangs had said while Sweet Pea groaned, flipping him off
"Sweet Pea. He's helped her with everything going on with your dad. He's a good guy. He has a temper. But he's okay." Toni explained
"She sits with you guys?" Jughead asked in confusion and Toni sent him a look of confusion
"She's a serpent. Why wouldn't she be?"
"Stevie? She's not a serpent."
Toni rolled her eyes at the beanie wearing boy and crossed her arms over her chest, "She's been one for while now. Right after your mom left. Probably around the time you left."
"Why didn't she tell me?" He mumbled and turned to walk away. Toni shook her head and made her way over to her friends, "Why didn't you tell your brother you were a serpent?"
Stevie sat up straight and turned to look over at Toni who raised her eyebrows at the girl. Stevie sighed and ran her hands thru her hair. "He gets enough shit about our dad being a serpent and being from the southside. I didn't wanna add fuel to the fire for Alice Cooper to take a dig at me too. I mean, I'm surprised she doesn't know and hasn't outed me to all of Riverdale."
"You guys live with each other. How'd he never notice?" Fangs asked, furrowing his eyebrows
"Jug left after our dad went off the wagon when our mom left. He just now moved back in when dad turned himself around. Besides, I'm always with you guys or at the wyrm so he never got a chance to figure it out." She shrugged, leaning back into Sweet Pea's side.
Toni and Fangs shared a look before turning to face their two friends who glared at them.
"Anyways, we all have a bio project due and her and I are going to the library while you two figure how you're gonna help." Toni spoke, grabbing her bag as Stevie did the same and stood up
"Wait, we have a library?"
------------------
"You didn't tell me you were a serpent." Jughead spoke as Stevie walked into the kitchen of their trailer. She sighed and set her bag and jacket on the table
"You weren't around after Dad fell off the wagon. Even though he was here, he wasn't really here. He was either drunk or passed out on the couch. They've been a family to me over the last few years." She explained, looking over at her brother who just nodded
"Why didn't you tell me? I'm your brother? Do mom and dad know?"
"Because you've already been through so much! You were crushed when mom and JB left. And you left as soon as stuff with Dad got bad. I became one after you stopped living here. Dad was barely there and I needed protection. What better way to get that then joining the serpents. They've been here through everything. When the sheriff department came in here and trashed the place, they were there. When dad got arrested, they were there while you were off living in the Northside!" Stevie exclaimed, standing up to walk to the sink, her back to her brother.
She took a deep breath and looked up at the ceiling, tears threatening to fall, "You've always been so judgemental about the serpents. I couldn't have you judge me too." Stevie spoke in a quiet voice
"I'm not judgemental about the serpents." Jughead started before Stevie cut him off
"You won't even sit with us at lunch!" She exclaimed, turning to look at him
A knock at the door prevented them from arguing anything further. Stevie sighed and walked over to the door, opening it to reveal Sweet Pea with Toni and Fangs on their bikes behind him. He raised his eyebrow at the sight of her bloodshot eyes, "you okay princess?"
Stevie cleared her throat and wiped at her eyes, "Yeah, I'm fine."
"If you say so. You ready?" He asked, crossing his arms and she nodded
"Just gotta grab my stuff." She turned to the kitchen and grabbed her backpack and jacket, " I'll see you at school, Juggie."
Stevie shrugged her jacket on and placed her backpack on her back, shutting the door behind her as Sweet Pea wrapped his arm around her shoulder, "You sure you're okay?"
"I'll tell you later, promise. Anyways, did you use the notes I gave you for your bio test?" Stevie asked, looking up at the tall serpent. She took note of his appearance. He had a green t-shirt on with his denim/flannel serpent jacket on. His hair, which was usually gelled off to the side, was kind of messy today. Not that she minded.
"For like all of 10 minutes. I don't need to study. Collins is an idiot. He'll pass us no matter how we do on the test." Sweet Pea scoffed, walking them over to his bike before removing his arm from her and throwing his leg over his bike, Stevie standing next to him.
"Doesn't matter. You still need to learn this stuff if you wanna graduate next year." Stevie huffed, running her fingers through his hair. If it was anyone who wasn't Stevie, he probably would have broken their wrist, but Stevie was the only person he allowed to touch his hair
Toni and Fangs shared a look with each other, rolling their eyes at the two before Toni called out, "C'mon love birds! We still gotta go to school."
-----------------------------
Stevie sat next to Toni in their English class with Jughead at the desk next to them and Sweet Pea sitting on top of the one diagonal from Jughead. Toni and Jughead were really the only ones paying attention to what Mr. Phillips had to say as Sweet Pea was on his phone and Stevie was doodling in her notebook. Very rarely did Stevie pay attention in her English class, mainly because she already knew everything he had taught.
The entire class was startled by Sweet Pea's sudden outburst.
"What?! Dammit!"
Kicking over the chair in front of him, he stormed out of the class and Stevie rolled her eyes and started packing up her bag
"Stevie..." Mr Phillips started before she cut him off by waving her hand at him.
"I'm already on it."
It wasn't the first time Stevie was sent after Sweet Pea after one of his outbursts. Everyone knew about his temper and how it was suicide mission for anyone to try and stop it. Stevie was often called out of class by either fellow serpents or Fangs and Toni who had texted her and told her about him storming off in a rage.
She pulled her bag over her shoulder and saluted the class before running after said serpent.
Stevie found him outside, kicking the crap out of a trash can. She rolled her eyes and rushed down the steps, "Pea? Hey! Look at me!"
Stevie dropped her bag and grabbed his face in both of her hands causing him to stop his assault on the trashcan and to turn his attention towards her.
"What happened?"
"Those damn Ghoulies. Fucking Malachai showed up at the wyrm, trying to get some of the other serpents to run JJ for him. They refused so they swung first." He explained causing her to nod her head, "Hey! Tall Boy and Hog eye can take care of the wyrm. Right now, you just need to calm down! You can't just go running out of class every time the ghoulies do something that piss you off!"
She noticed his breathing had slowed down and she took this time to look over his face. If you weren't paying close attention or looking close enough, you wouldn't even notice that he had very faint freckles on the bridge of his nose, running across his cheeks. He had black outlining his deep brown eyes with specks of gold in them. He also had an indent of a dimple by his mouth that only showed when he smiled, which he did when he was around Stevie.
"Enjoying the view, princess?" Sweet Pea smirked, causing Stevie to snap out of her thoughts and remove her hands from his face, reaching down to grab one of his large ones in her small hand.
"C'mon. Let's go down to the quarry. We need to get Toni if I have to deal with you and Fangs together." Stevie spoke, turning to grab her bag and lead Sweet Pea back inside of the school.

Cause a scene (Poe Dameron)
Requested: NO
Warnings: just some cursing, jealous drama queen Poe and him being a tiny bit too okay with PDA
Summary: Poe’s not one to be too possessive, he knows his place. It just seems as if one of the newbies does not know his place and Poe is pretty much determined to set that and some other things straight.
A/n: i’ve got this idea whilst pretty much gushing about angry poe in that particular scene with the lovely @damnyoudameron I hope you enjoy it! She’ll probably release something similar too, so make sure to check her work out if you have time:) all the love<3
My Masterlist
Tumblr media
Of course he had no right to be jealous, he knew that. It wasn’t like the two of you were dating, whether officially or unofficially. Certainly, you flirted like your life depended on it and you sure as hell were all over each other all the time – but you weren’t really a thing.
Yet he had been pretty sure that he had gotten his point across that you were not to be approached by anyone because quite frankly, you were his and the other way around. And Poe didn’t wanted to be a possessive lover – again, he wasn’t even your lover at last – and he knew that you weren’t really his even if you were an item…but he couldn’t help himself at times. Same thing with jealousy: even though Poe knew that he wasn’t in the place to be jealous, whenever he saw you with Brody, his jaw tightened and he had to either look away or leave the room. Brody was new at the resistance, a newbie and still quite green. He’s been assigned to Poe’s unit as Blue five (a thing Poe was at odds since the beginning of time) and served and flew under Leia’s (and ultimately Poe’s command) for a month now. And when Poe was an understanding and patient commander, known for not only his tendencies to do the opposite of the task given but also caring greatly for his squadron, he found himself struggling to cope with the newest addition to the team. The problem was not that Brody was one to talk back when he absolutely wasn’t in position to do so – though it obviously contributed to the loathing Poe felt against the man – but also the constant complaining about certain things. He seemed to know better about maneuvers, formations, weak spots of TIE-Fighters, tactics and even X-Wings at times. Constantly talking about the importance of not overheating the compressor system or the cryogenic power generator, when Poe clearly couldn’t give a shit less about that. Sure, an exploding power generator wouldn’t be fun, but Poe would surely not stop on some foreign planet just to check the eventual bad state of a generator. Either the whole thing blew up in his face or it did not, and as long as BB-8 or any another astrodroid didn't report on anything, overheated power plants were not Poe's biggest concerns. Especially not when hunting down a bunch of TIE-Fighters in the vast blackness of space.
True hatred for the fellow pilot had however only truly sparked when that annoying prick started to notice you, as you worked your way through every X-Wing after the landings. The quick check-ups with your team were not only a necessity but also where you could spend some quality time teasing the hell out of Poe. And he loved it, every snarky remark and cheeky wink you gave him, every smile and silent eyeroll of yours. It had went so far that you usually approached Black One first, letting your team take over the rest before you moved on to Oddy or Jessika. You had even started to teasingly call his X-Wing your very own child and always made sure to scold him about damages and dents he brought home. Like a caring mother you always patted the titanium alloy, giving Poe a disapproving look whenever you discovered a new scratch in the black ferrosphere paint. He’d always grin and either wrap his arms around you, or flee from your unbridled rage whenever he had completely messed up the shields again. Not that you would actually hit that mischievous little bastard, you’d admittedly died every time he took off and prayed for his return.
After all, Poe Dameron had an effect on you, like he had on every one, varying from never ending annoyance (definitely General Organa), hatred (the first order), a headache (Leia again), admiration (literally the whole hangar and piloting community) to faster beating hearts and sneaky glances (all the female and some male members of the resistance). And as much as you hated to admit it, the latter definitely applied to you.
When first you had tried to brush his flirting and compliments off, telling yourself that he basically did this with everyone, you too had soon sensed a change. The flirty comments became more recent and you were distinctively often aimed at you and you only, he had his eyes on you across the cantina or walked you to your dorm. He waited for you after lunch to take a walk like you mostly did, never let his X-Wing get checked by anyone but you. He had the habit of staring off people, wordlessly telling them to back up and not approach you ever. His hands were always somewhere on you, resting on your lower back, around your shoulders, in your hair, around your waist or his pinkie linked with yours. Now, Poe’s always been a touchy one, but when even your friends started to point out how incredibly handsy he was with you, you began to wonder. Maybe even hope, a bit.
Especially when he started to display some slight jealous behaviour whenever you talked to other guys longer than he found necessary. Not that he ever said it out loud, his body language just spoke for itself: straight back, tensed shoulders and a muscle in his jaw constantly clenching and unclenching. To your own amusement he always stayed quiet until the end before either walking over and dragging you to his X-Wing for some “changes and stuff” or wrap his arms around you somehow, indicating the conversation to be over now.
It was no surprise then when as Brody started to chat you up after missions, he was ready to flip a table.
He couldn’t believe his eyes when one day after another successful mission, the one person he disliked the most had the audacity to prevent you from coming over to him first. Smoothly pulling you into a conversation and swiftly distracting you from your intention to walk over to the now fuming commander first.
He was charming, you had to admit that. His attempts on hitting on you by complimenting your skills and whatnot didn’t go unnoticed by you, though they had little to no effect on you. Firstly because you sure as hell didn’t needed any confirmation from some newly recruited pilot, you knew your profession and your shit, besides, you were leading your team not because of luck. Secondly, as charming as Brody may seemed to be, you did have your eyes on someone else. Someone who’s wit and charm outmatched the blonde’s by far. But he was nice and you acknowledged that and saw no reason to treat him any different.
Quite the opposite of Poe actually, who was totally ready to smash in his control screens with Brody’s face, to get your attention back again.
After ten minutes of jealously waiting for you to finally come and check up on his ship, he decided to just simply get you himself. After all, he was the commander and he wanted you to himself for at least five minutes before having to share you with some irritating asshole again.
When you had seen him approach, your eyes lit up immediately, much to his satisfaction. You’d placed the clamp down immediately and met him halfway with a warm hug.
“Hello there flyboy.” Your voice muffled by his flying suit and arms still around his torso, he felt a wave of relief flooding though him.
“Evening love.” He had only managed to whisper before gently letting go to inspect your face. “You good?” he earned an eyeroll for that one comment. “Me? Which one of us just returned from a deadly mission from space? You or I? I should be asking that question, dumbass.”
Long story short: the two of you were cute, and everybody knew and shared that opinion. Everyone except maybe Brody, who had a knack of ignoring the obvious and after similar episodes of him simply trying to snatch you away from Poe, Poe actively despised him.
So when he caught the two of you around one of the large holo-tables, after a mission that had been demanding anyways, he simply snapped. He’s already had a long day, he was already a bit needy for you especially after you had spent a ridiculously short time at his X-Wing. And when Brody rose his arm to place it softly around your waist, he saw red. That was the last straw and he was ready to strangle that fucking know here and there.
“Poe?” Finn sounded alarmed as Poe rushed past him, his eyes following his friends burning gaze to you. He immediately understood and extended an arm towards him, trying to hold the furious man back.
“Poe hold on a minute…” he tried, finding it hard to sound somehow like Leia, knowing about her being one of two people having the actual power to stop Poe from something. Though, not even Leia could, not always. The only one to truly control his extremely impulsive friend was you, and you were occupied right now.
“Let’s not have a scene now, yeah?” he tried again, Poe’s sleeves slipping from his fingers as the pilot angrily continued his way towards the two of you.
“No, let’s.” his voice was hoarse of anger and jealousy as he finally reached you. Eyes ablaze and fist clenched, and everybody made sure to stay out of his way.
“Y/N…” his voice made you snap around, immediately seeing it as an opportunity to shrug off Brody’s hands that had again settled on your waist. You turned around to Poe, eyes wandering over him with an amused sparkle in your eyes. He had already changed into a dark leather jacket, similar to yours actually and a greenish shirt. His hair was curled unruly still, single strands of black hair falling into his stern face.
And, you had never seen Poe so tensed up and ready to eventually riot, and you would lie if saying that it wasn’t attractive. With his eyes basically burning a hole into Brody and he hands clenched tightly he radiated the energy of a panther about to snap.
“Engine’s down again.” He only pressed out, his mind not even bothering to make up a good explanation why he was prone to end this conversation now. “Really? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” You asked, in wide eyed innocence. “Forgot about it. BB-8 just reminded me.” He muttered, getting momentarily distracted by you adjusting his jacket.
“Poe Dameron. When will you finally stop wrecking my beloved ship?” you mused, looking up at him with a twisted smile.
“Probably happened during that one moment when we split formations. In my opinion a tactical error, clearly that only…” Poe growled lowly, tensing up again and you quickly placed a hand on his chest.
“Oh yeah?” he snapped, his whole hatred against Brody laced with his spat out words. You raised to your tiptoes trying to get Poe’s attention back on you. It worked, but only for a split seconds, until Brody decided to open his mouth again and broadcast his wisdom.
“Yeah, every child knows that TIE’s attack in squadrons and therefore have the strength in blasting away a whole squadron easily. There is protection in a crowd, that also applies to the rules of space…” “The rules of space? That if an X-Wing explodes next to yours, the flying scrap simply goes around your engines in the process of getting hurled through space? Are those your rules of space?  By staying close you literally endanger the whole goddamn team you fucking…” you simply reached for his hand, silencing him quickly.
“What the fuck do you see in him.” he hissed under his breath, eyes darting down to you whilst Brody was trying to actually argue about that now. You sighed softly.
When you were highkey amused and smug about Poe’s obvious jealously, it bugged you that he actually believed you could feel anything more than mere friendship towards Brody. Not only because you literally had Poe Dameron around you twenty-four seven, but also because he just wasn’t your type. You were sure that there were people who were into lean, know it all, messy blond dudes with buzzcut, it just wasn’t your piece of cake.
Your eyes trailed over his angry face again. You made another attempt by carefully brushing over Poe’s jacket again, trying to flatten out wrinkles and just generally calm him down. You knew him well enough to know that if you couldn’t distract him soon, he’d have his hand at Brody’s throat in no time. Not that you could really blame him for it though.
Poe almost immediately reacted to your touch, shoulders slumping down a tiny bit. His hand finally found his place on your waist, his touch letting chills run through your body. You reached up to his neck, adjusting the thin silver chain with the ring that had caught itself in the collar of his jacket. He shivered softly at your touch and you couldn’t help but grin softly at his hyperawareness of your fingers on his soft skin.
“Let’s check up on my baby then.” You said softly, innocently tilting your head at him. The way you said it insinuated the possibility of you not only talking about the black starfighter but perhaps…Poe let out a breath he had not been aware of holding, looking down at you.
“Make sure to come back quickly after that. The conversation was just about to get good!” Brody winked with a laugh and Poe…it was enough, definitely and finally enough. Without hesitating a second, he cupped your face with both of his hands before smashing his lips down on yours. You froze for a second, overwhelmed and surprised by Poe’s sudden snap of character, but you quickly recovered and returned the kiss eagerly. After all, it was long overdue. A fire danced from his lips to yours, the warmth and neediness of his lips sending shivers down your spine. He bit down on your lip just lightly, enough to make you gasp softly and part you lips. But it was enough for him to quickly sweep over your bottom lip with his tongue as if to ask if you were okay with that. Of course you were, it took you a millisecond to grant him access and deepen the kiss. You could almost feel him smile against your lips before he backed off suddenly, looking satisfied and smug as ever. Then his gaze hardened, falling on Brandon again.
“We’ll see about that.” And with that he turned around, hands still on your waist and making sure that finally everyone knew, to who the hell you belonged to.

won’t let no one break your heart (part four)
“Have the girls been adjusting well?”
“As well as they can be. Things have gotten better over the last few weeks.”
Jo and Alex sat in an empty conference room on the Peds floor with Martha, who was doing a check in with them. The girls had been with them for two months now, all four of them getting more and more used to their new living situation. Sadie had started back at school three weeks ago and Molly had adjusted quickly to the hospital daycare.
“You know, as of three days ago Sadie and Molly are officially wards of the state. Dad was let out on bail and OD’d within 12 hours of being released. Mom passed shortly after Molly was born,” Martha glanced up at Jo and Alex, who were both wearing shocked expressions. “Have you two thought about adopting? Both girls seem very attached to you and they’re both thriving. Sadie’s teacher said this is the most focused she’s been all school year.”
“Ummm we hadn't considered it actually,” Jo’s words come slowly, the shock on her face speaking for her. “We’re expecting a little boy in three and half months, taking on two more wasn’t really in the cards.”
“Well you two have been doing an excellent job regardless,” Martha packed her bag up and stood to leave. She turned back to Jo and Alex, who were still sitting there stunned, a smirk on her face. “Think about it, it might be good for you and for them.”
Alex’s mind whirled as he processed Martha’s words. Sadie and Molly had fit so easily into his and Jo’s routine that sometimes he forgot their arrangement was temporary. Both girls were beyond excited for the newest addition, always giving them new suggestions for baby names. (Molly’s favorite was currently Pinecone while Sadie’s was Elsa.)
If he was being honest, Alex would admit that he had considered adopting the girls more than once. The way that Sadie and Molly cuddled into his side on early Saturday mornings and how his wife always made sure to tuck them in no matter how tired she was cemented in his mind that the girls belonged with them. He knew Jo didn’t see eye to eye with him, but he also knew that a lot of her apprehension over the matter had to do with the fact that going from no kids to three kids in the house was terrifying to think about.
Both Jo and Alex’s pagers lit up, breaking them out of their daze with a 911 page to Trauma 2. They both stood and exited the conference room, boarding an empty elevator that slowly began its journey downstairs.
“Hey this probably means we get a case together,” Jo grinned at Alex, gripping his hand tightly. “We almost never get to work together anymore.”
Alex froze then, Jo was right. They never got paged together, especially with Jo being a fellow who didn’t usually work on cases that came through the ER anymore. His heart dropped, realizing that maybe there wasn't a case and something was wrong.
As soon as the elevator doors had opened, Alex knew he was right, Even from this far back, he could hear the screams coming from the trauma bay that he was all too familiar with. Jo broke her hand away from his, jogging as fast as she could towards Molly’s screams.
“She got hit in the forehead with a block, she probably won’t even need stitches but I think the blood is freaking her out,” Owen is standing in front of Alex now, but he can barely process what he’s saying as Molly continues to scream. “We haven’t been able to calm her down since they brought her over.”
Alex pushes past Owen, following the screams until he’s standing behind Jo outside of the trauma room. He watches as Molly finally sees Jo, her screams turning into cries as she outstretches her hands towards her, “Mama! Mama, Mama!”
If Jo is fazed by Molly’s words she doesn’t show it as she surges forward and gathers the little girl in her arms, “It’s okay baby, you’re alright.”
Molly’s cries finally settle down to whimpers as Jo rocks her back and forth, allowing Alex to look at the cut on her forehead. Owen’s right, the cut is shallow and won’t need stitches, but Molly’s face is dripping with blood. He quickly cleans her up, watching as she slowly falls asleep on Jo’s shoulder. Once she’s out, Alex takes the toddler from Jo, watching as she collapses into a fit of tears.
“I heard her screaming and I thought the worst. And she was covered in blood and I just…,” Jo takes a deep breath before a sob breaks from her throat, Alex pulling her into his chest as she continues to cry. He’d truly never seen Jo so upset, her body shaking as she curled into his embrace.
Alex knew then that he needed to convince Jo of what she couldn’t see, that she too had grown attached to the little girls that slept across the hall from them. Her fear was clouding her judgement, he knew damn well that Jo would be a great mother, she already practically was one to Sadie and Molly. Afterall, it was her who Molly had called out for and been comforted by.
Looking between Molly and Jo curled up against him, Alex couldn’t help but feel like things were falling into place for them. Everyday both Sadie and Molly taught him something new about being a parent and showed him that he didn’t have a reason to be scared about parenthood. He just hoped that Jo could see what he did…
+
Three days after Molly’s ER run in, Alex is blindsided by a completely different situation. He’d just finished his work for the day and was about to find Jo and Molly when both of them showed up on the Peds floor.
“Hey, I was just about to go and find you two,” Alex leaned down to kiss Jo’s cheek, his tired brain finally registering the woman standing behind his wife. “Mom? What’re you doing here?”
“I came to surprise my son and daughter in law, but instead I found out that they’ve got two and a half kids they’ve been hiding from me,” Helen leaned up to kiss Alex’s cheek, chuckling at his sheepish expression. “Oh don’t feel bad dear, this little one has already buttered me up, haven’t you Molly?”
A nervous smile spread across Alex’s cheeks as he avoided his mom’s gaze. He had only recently told his mom that she was going to be a grandmother again, but he hadn’t mentioned how far along Jo was. He was certain that if the six month baby bump his wife was sporting wasn’t enough to shock her, that the toddler on her hip was.
Alex looked from Helen to Jo, who shrugged at him to indicate that she was just as thrown off as he was. Turning back to his mom, he tried to look as sincere as possible, “Sorry mom, we’ve been… overwhelmed around here. But the girls aren’t ours, it’s just temporary.”
“Why don’t we head back to the house? It’s almost time to pick Sadie up anyways,” Jo looked to Alex with a small smile, her expression calm as if to say she would handle the situation. “We can order pizza and you can show off the new house to your mom.”
The drive to pick up Sadie and back home was loaded with Alex and Jo filling Helen in on everything happening in their lives, including how Sadie and Molly had fallen into their laps. As soon as they’d picked up Sadie though, her and Helen couldn’t stop talking. The six year old had instantly bonded with ‘Nana Helen’ and had a million questions for her.
Once they arrived back at the house, Jo hurried the girls upstairs for a bath while Alex showed his mom around the new house. A smile appeared on Helen’s face as they walked into the bedroom that they’d made up for the girls, “You know you have that same sense about you that you did when you would take care of your siblings. Like you’d do anything for those girls.”
“Well, I would, they’re special,” Alex tried to brush his mom’s comment off, but the words stuck with him. “Their case worker wants us to make it official, adopt them ya know? And Jo isn’t sold on it, but…”
“But you are, you’re already hooked,” Helen let out a small laugh at Alex’s shocked face. “Don’t act so surprised, I am your mother after all. I know that you want to keep them, so does your wife even if she can’t see that. Have you seen the way her face lights up when Molly calls her mama?”
“Oh don’t get me started on that,” Alex chuckled, wrapping an arm around his mom and bringing her into his side. “I’ll win her over. Or the girls will… either way, I think you might get three new grandkids here soon.”
After dinner had finished, Molly and Sadie both found themselves cuddled into Helen’s side while the family watched a movie together. While Molly was invested in the movie, Sadie was watching with wide eyes as Helen knitted in front of her, “What is that going to be?”
“It’s a hat for the baby,” Helen pulled at the green yarn, explaining the stitches to Sadie. “I figured he might need something to keep him warm since it’s so cold in Seattle.”
“That’s a big hat for a tiny baby,” Sadie mused, causing Alex to chuckle from across the room. “What’s so funny Alex?”
“Nothing, the hat’s just big because Karev babies have extra big heads,” Jo’s hand comes up to slap Alex’s head, prompting him to look down at his wife who was stretched out across him. “What?! You’re the one that decided to procreate with me, you’ve seen my big ass head.”
“Alexander Michael! Language! There's children here,” Jo’s tone makes Alex laugh, hearing his foul mouthed wife berate him for saying the word ‘ass’ well and truly undoing him. “Stop laughing at me, you’re insufferable.”
As Alex and Jo settled in for the night, all he could think about was what his mom had said to him earlier. Jo was laid out in bed already, palms resting on her belly, “You know I don’t get it.”
“Get what?,” Alex looked up from where he was brushing his teeth, eyeing his wife as she stared at the ceiling.
“I don’t get how you can leave your baby, your own flesh and blood, at a fire station when they’re not even a week old. I could never imagine a world where making that decision makes sense,” Jo pauses for a moment, Alex watching as her mind works out her next words. “I can’t imagine doing that to our baby, I can’t even imagine doing that to Sadie and Molly and they’re not even ours. I just… I’ve been painting this picture in my head for years that my mom did the right thing but now I’m not so sure.”
Climbing into bed and wrapping his arms around his wife, Alex pressed a kiss to her neck, “You know I’ve been thinking.”
“Always dangerous words coming from you.”
“I think we should keep the girls, make it official,” Jo turned in his arms, her eyes blown wide as she met his pleading ones. “They’re doing so good here and they’re comfortable and-”
“Alex, in a few months we’re going to have a newborn,” Jo’s fingers looped through Alex’s to press against her stomach, as if to emphasize her point. “We agreed it was only temporary, three kids is a lot to take on.”
Knowing he’d either anger or freak out Jo if he kept pushing, Alex let out a sigh as he pressed a kiss into her head, “Okay, if you say no then it’s a no. I won’t ask again.”
He settles down then, his breathing evening out and his body almost asleep when he feels wet tears soaking into his shirt. Alex knows Jo’s mind is racing just the same as his, but she doesn’t want to entertain the same ideas that he has. Instead of bringing up his wife’s emotional state, he tightens his grip around her and rubs her back silently.

“Nana I don’t want you to go, what if you just stayed with us forever?”
Helen chuckles at Sadie’s pleading tone as she zips up her suitcase. Both Sadie and Molly are perched on Helen's bed in the guest room, watching with sad expressions as she made sure she has everything. In the three days that she’d been in Seattle, both girls had grown closer to Helen than any of the adults could’ve anticipated.
“I’m sorry sweetie, I have to get back home,” Helen sat between the girls, both of them immediately climbing into her lap. “But I do have a surprise for you two.”
Helen reached into her handbag and pulled out two bright green knitted hats, the same color as the tiny one she’d been working on the past few days. Both girls eagerly put the hats on, giggling as they looked at each other.
“We look like teddy bears Nana,” Sadie swatted at the two pompoms on top of Molly’s hat with a grin. “And we match the baby’s hat!”
“Well I didn’t want you to feel left out,” Helen looked between the girls and sent a wink in Sadie’s direction. “I have a feeling that you two will be good big sisters.”
The girls spent a few more minutes enjoying Helens presence before Alex came in and interrupted, “Alright girls we gotta get Nana to the airport. If you come with us we can go to the park after.”
Molly rushed to Alex's arms, the two walking out of the room as Sadie lingered behind and looked up to Helen with a worried expression, “Do you think next time you come back that me and Molly will still be here?”
“You know what,” Helen leaned down and pressed a kiss to Sadie’s forehead. “I think you will be.”

Bitter Rivals
Tumblr media
Okay this is dedicated to @starseternalnighttriumphant because she is literally one of my favorite Rowaelin writters (Hannah, theres a little shout out to you, you’ll know it when you see it lol)
--------------
“I swear the next time that pompous dick face asshole even looks at me, I swear - I swear Elide that I’m going to take my $4,000 dollar Louboutin’s and stab him.” Aelin let out a frustrated groan in her throat as she stacked together case files to take home for the night. Elide stood in the doorway of Aelin’s office watching her friend and boss pace back and forth grabbing various objects and stuffing them in her bag.
“I take it the meeting with the new Mr. Whitethorn didn’t go as planned?” Elide asked wondering when Aelin was going to notice that she had started to throw random things in her bag and not the case files she needed.
“Oh that’s for sure,” Aelin said waving a box of tissues in her hand. “First he wants to come in like if he owns the place, classic alpha type you know? But then what really gets me is he had the gall, the fucking nerve, to look me up and down, head to toe and then walk away! The buzzard didn’t even say anything to me! Just gave me this once over, sat down, and proceeded to ignore me the rest of the meeting.” Aelin finally noticed the box of tissues in her hand and all the random junk that she had placed in her bag. Huffing she started to pull things out and Elide did her best not to laugh.
In all reality Aelin was used to people, men, in particular, sizing her up only to underestimate her in the end. It was something that she thrived on adding fuel to her fire. But when Rowan Whitethorn the newest addition to their law firm came swaggering in and dismissed her completely something in her blood boiled over into a hot rage. It didn’t help that he was tall, muscular, and looked like he could definitely act out a scene in one of her many romance novels. He wanted to act like an arrogant jerk so in Aelin’s mind he would be treated as such and therefore off-limits.
“Well here’s some news that might make you feel a bit better.” Elide said walking into Aelin’s office and sitting down, “The paralegal gossip network has been whispering that the higher-ups are starting to look for candidates to promote to partner and,” Elide paused for effect, “It seems you are the top of the list!” The smile that broke across Aelin’s face was so big that Elide wondered if it hurt. Aelin jumped up and down in joy before regaining her composure.
“Whew okay, no big deal that’s cool. Besides, it’s not like I’ve gotten the promotion yet anyway. Do we know who the other people on the list are?” Elide shook her head.
“Not that I’ve heard, but the moment I’ve found something out I’ll let you know.” Aelin nodded and gathered her bag and purse ready to leave for the day, Elide doing the same but instead of walking towards the elevator Aelin veered towards the right. Elide paused and gave her a quizzical look, Aelin giving her a secret smile said, “I hid some of the chocolate bark that Lys made for the office.” Elide scoffed a laugh and continued on leaving Aelin to have her end of day snack.
-------------
Thirty minutes later Aelin had combed the office kitchen not once, not twice but five times looking for her secret stash of goodies but to no avail. A part of her knew that she could just ask Lysandra to make her some more but another part of her was frustrated at whoever had found the chocolate that she had clearly been hiding. Finally deciding to give up she jumped when someone cleared their throat behind her.
“Is there a reason you’re tearing up the kitchen so late in the day?” Aelin turned around to see Rowan Whitethorn casually leaning against the entrance to the kitchen. Aelin’s eyes narrowed on the twig-like object in his hands. As if knowing exactly what he was doing, Rowan brought the chocolate bark up to his mouth and bit off a piece.
“You!” Aelin accused finger-pointing at Rowan. “You ate my chocolate!” Rowan looked at the piece of chocolate in his hands before bringing it to his mouth again this time taking a bigger bite finishing it off. He dusted his hands off before putting them in his pocket.
“I didn’t realize they were yours.” He said giving his shoulders a shrug. Aelin wanted to smack the smug look off of his face but instead grabbed her bag that she had put down when looking for her missing snack.
“Oh, so the chocolate that was clearly on the top shelf with multiple items in front of it, hidden from view. You didn’t think that it was someone’s and they were hiding it?” Aelin scoffed and moved to go around Rowan.
“There were some on the counter in the glass jar, why didn’t you eat those instead?” Aelin asked moving out of the kitchen and into the hallway.
“They were dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is too bitter and when I was looking in the cabinet for something else to eat, I found the milk chocolate ones.”
“Because I was hiding them!” Aelin huffed. She didn’t know what was going on with her, usually, she was more calm and collected than this, but Rowan had gotten in the way between her and something sweet. It didn’t matter that he had rolled up his white button-up sleeves and she could see the whorls of tattoos on his ridiculously toned forearms - seriously that’s not a part of the body that should even be attractive.
“Oh Aelin you’re still here, good.” Aelin turned to see Arobynn Hamel, one of the law firms partners walking towards her. She sighed internally and plastered on a smile.
“Arobynn.” She nodded in acknowledgment.
“I need to talk to you about something.” Rowan stepped out of the kitchen and into the hallway with Aelin. Arobynn’s eyes flicked to him before turning back to Aelin. “Oh good you’re both here then.”
Aelin was curious to know what Arobynn could need the two of them for.
“I’m sure both of you are aware that we are looking at possible new partners. I wanted to let you both know that you are on that list and tomorrow morning at our monthly check-in meeting we’ll go over some projects and cases that we want you to work on together.” Aelin felt like she had just gotten hit with a fright truck but her smile stayed in place. Arobynn touched his hand to Aelin’s shoulder and then walked away. Without another look or word to Rowan she walked away.
-------------
“Can you believe?!” Aelin said pouring herself another glass of wine before offering to pour Lysandra one. Lysandra held out her glass and watched with a smile as Aelin filled it up.
“I mean first the bastard doesn’t say a word to me, and then he eats my chocolate, which by the way should be punishable by death, I should know, I’m a lawyer. But then he’s my rival for the partner position?! I swear Lys, I don’t know what I did wrong in my past life or what my ancestors did wrong but this sucks. It sucks.” She took a big gulp out of her glass before picking up one of the cupcakes Lys had baked before Aelin came over.
“So what are you going to do?” Lys said taking a sip out of her glass.
“I don’t know, I don’t know what they’re gonna ask us to do, you know?”
“Well let’s worry about that tomorrow then, have you heard about his new Polish movie that’s apparently better than 50 shades?” Lys asked picking up the remote to turn on the TV.
“Um what? I wanna watch.” Aelin picked up another cupcake before snuggling into the couch.
-------------
The next morning Aelin walked into her morning meeting with a chocolate croissant and three shots of espresso over ice with sugar and cream. She sat down at her normal spot by the window and brought out her phone to look over emails when Rowan sat down next to her. She tried her best to ignore him but when he started tapping his pen on the legal pad in front of him Aelin had to put down her phone before she threw it at his head.
Before she could say something to him Arobynn walked in with three other men and two women one of them Clarisse and the others Aelin had met on various occasions but could not recall the names of.
“Ah good, you’re both here.” As everyone sat down Aelin sat up straighter. This was her chance to become a partner, something that she had been working towards since she started at Hammel and DuVency six years ago.
“Let’s get started then.” Clarisse templed her hands in front of her, “Arobynn informed the two of you of the opportunity to make partner, but rather than look at your individual cases and workloads we want to see how the two of you work together.” Elide walked in the room and handed both Rowan and Aelin some files before sitting down.
“This is Dorian Havilliard, I’m sure that you’ve seen him in the news recently. Currently he’s being sued by his father, Dorian Senior, over a breach in a business contract that they had. We will be representing the younger Dorian and I want the two of you to work this case together.”
“With all due respect,” Rowan chimed in. “Why?”
Arobynn responded, “This is a high profile case, and both of you are good looking to deal with the press. You also both have a stunning amount of wins which should make this easy. Ms. Lochan here will assist the two of you during this time.” Aelin nodded and pulled out her phone to send a quick text to Lys.
“Anything else we should know moving forward?” Aelin asked, scanning through the case file. If all she had to do was to win this case to prove that she was better than Rowan then the partnership was as good as hers.
“No, we will leave you two to discuss the important matter of the case amongst yourself,” Clarisse said standing up. “Please remember that we’ll be watching how the two of you work together during this time.” With that they all stood up and walked out of the room.
“Elide, could you get me all the files from the 2012 White Wolf case, they had a case similar to this, and pull any other files you can find on Dorian Senior, he wouldn’t be suing his son if it wasn’t important.” Aelin listed off, Elide nodding as she took notes.
“What makes you think that Dorian Senior is the one to blame?” Rowan asked. Aelin didn’t look at him as she continued to scan the file in front of her. “Because I’m not being paid to believe otherwise.” With that she stood up and walked out of the room.
-------------
Around lunchtime, Lysandra walked in holding a small green box that was trademarked to her bakery. She knocked and Aelin’s head shot up before a smile took over her face.
“Yeah! You brought it!” Aelin said getting up from her chair to hug her best friend.
“I also brought some food from Emrys,” she said holding up a takeout bag which she pulled out of Aelin’s reach, when she pouted Lys said “And, a slice of his chocolate cake.” Aelin jumped up and down grabbing the bag from Lys before pulling out a couple of fries to eat before splitting up the food between her and Lysandra.
“I love you Lys, and I love your baking but nothing will ever beat Emrys’s chocolate cake, I swear he puts crack in it.” Lys laughed at her friend taking a bite out of her own burger.
“So you gonna tell me why you needed me to make you chocolate?”
-------------
After Lysandra left, Aelin took the box of chocolate up a floor to Rowan’s office. His office door was open but he was on a call, his back towards the door. Aelin knocked tentatively, when he turned around and saw her he placed one finger up telling her he would be just a minute.
“I understand that, but in the meantime I don’t want him anywhere near his son. We’ll file a restraining order on him, I can get a judge to sign it in,” Rowan looked at his wristwatch, “about an hour. Does that work?” Rowan nodded his head to whoever was on the phone before setting it back on the receiver.  He walked around his desk to the front and leaned against it, crossing on leg over the other.
Damn it, he was attractive.
“I came to bring you this,” Aelin said handing over the green box that Lysandra brought earlier. He lifted a silver eyebrow at her. Aelin shrugged and smiled.
“I realized that we might have gotten off on the wrong foot so I wanted to give you a little something so that you know where we stand. Rowan opened the box while Aelin’s smile grew brighter.
“What is this?” Rowan asked, still staring at the contents inside the box.
“It's homemade dark chocolate, your favorite.” Rowan lifted the box towards Aelin where she could see the message written inside.
“Oh, that. That’s from me.” The words ‘Rival Confirmed’ were written across the assortment of chocolate sweets that Lysandra had put together for Aelin.
“Anyway, looking forward to working with you.” Aelin turned and walked out the door feeling much more satisfied than the day before.

Hello! I've found my way here through your Dimileth fic on AO3 :). You mentioned that you take requests? If so, would you be up to write a short university AU meet-cute for Dimitri and Byleth?
Ack!~ Thank you for stopping by! Yes yes this sounds cute and exciting I’ll put it under the cut.  (whoops, this kind of turned into a hackers AU set in a university rather than a more university focused AU rip)
Author’s note - technical Capture the Flags are games where hackers have to find bugs and solve puzzles to find "flags," bits of data that tell the system you've completed a given task. (source). We had a ton at my University.
It was rare that Dimitri would actually attend class in person. He’d either watch the lectures after-the-fact at twice the speed (you can’t blame him, professors are boring), or peruse the slides at around 2am while eating an entire pot of Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese.
He didn’t really like being around people (and he was a bit of a tough pill to be around - people didn’t really like being around him either). He spent most of his time holed up in his apartment, straw blonde locks touching the keyboard as he hunched over the computer, fearless leader of “Farghus” - the vigilante hacker group.
He admired two people.
One of them was AshenDemon, a new addition to their online force. Formerly a self-described “online mercenary”, they had decided to lend their technical prowess to Farghus, and had quickly proven themselves to be the most competent hacker of the bunch, even more-so than Dimitri. They seemed content, though, to simply advise him - they said they had no interest in leading the group. They felt that Dimitri was more than capable, and was stronger than them in many aspects - a complement that made him shoot a rare smile at the glow of his computer screen.
The other person was the TA for the Computer Security class he had taken last semester. Byleth Eisner was only a year older than him, but she was the PhD student that advised the course. You see, even though it was rare that Dimitri went to class, it wasn’t impossible.
There was something about bantering with Byleth during their discussion section that really drew him out of his shell - she knew her stuff, and she had absolutely humiliated him at the Capture The Flag weekend that the course had put together for fun after the semester had ended.
And, he hated to admit it, she was really pretty. Like, really really pretty. And that was, secretly, one of the reasons he was okay leaving his apartment to go to class.
And maybe, that was also why he was so nervous about the fact that she had asked him to coffee. It wasn’t a date, she was very clear about the fact that she just wanted to catch up and talk about one of the newest operating system exploits in the news (that he had engineered, but she didn’t know that). But that didn’t stop him from running a comb through his unkempt hair, finding a nice pair of pants to replace his sweats, and practicing his unpracticed smile in the mirror a few times.
He glanced at his computer, the most recent conversation he had with AshenDemon pulled up from before they had reported the OS exploit to the developers.
HighLordsLance: I’m going to report this anonymously. I don’t think we can handle any more publicity right now. Even if we’re doing good things, the attention just makes our work harder. I don’t want the corps or the media interfering. Reporters trying to infiltrate are *so clumsy*.
AshenDemon: I get that, but your approach is too flamboyant. They’ll know it just from the report. An anonymous report isn’t anonymous if every exploit you report is approached the same way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
HighLordsLance: I really think it’ll be fine. Not that it matters, anyway. I think it’ll be fine.
AshenDemon: I’m calling it. SecDaily is going to figure it out first based on the style of your approach.
HighLordsLance: You’re on.
AshenDemon: Buy me dinner if I’m right.
HighLordsLance: I’ll download DoorDash and send you whatever you want. ;) But I don’t think you have a chance in hell. The guys at SecDaily are idiots.
- - -
“How’ve classes been, Dimitri?” Byleth rarely smiled, but he noted (sourly - it was kind of unfair) that even the smallest upward twitch of her lips was radiant. She slid into the seat across from him in the booth they had claimed at the coffee shop, extra large drink in hand, faded green waves thrown up messily in a bun.
“I went through twice the usual amount of mac ‘n cheese to get through Computer Architecture. Professor Mudge is intolerable.” He sipped his coffee, finding ways to avoid eye contact as innocuously as possible. Her eyes were mesmerizing. He didn’t want to make a fool of himself by staring. “I’ve been focusing more on side-projects, lately.”
“I see.” She eyed him as if she wanted to say something more. “Anything interesting?”
He shrugged his broad shoulders silently. He knew that she knew about Farghus, just not his involvement with it. They had gotten into many an argument about the ethics of vigilante hacking. “Not really.” “You sure?” She pulled up an article on her phone and flashed the screen at him, eyebrow raised. Published two minutes ago. SecDaily: Hacker Group Farghus Discovers Day Zero Operating System Exploit.
He paled slightly. “I’m not sure what you’re talking about.” His voice was gruff. He took a gulp of his coffee, scalding his tongue in the process. “I mean, it’s an interesting exploit, sure, but-” “Dimitri.” She interrupted him. Her voice was almost playful, a note he had never heard in it before. “I think you have to take me out to dinner.” A flush raised to his cheeks, dusting across his nose. “Hold on-” “...or does the High Lord’s Lance not keep to his word?” She smirked and downed the rest of her drink. “Pick me up at 7, yeah?”

Vher98 Update 5
I know it's only been a couple of weeks since the last blog post about my recent updates towards developing Vher98, but trust me it's for a good reason, I'll split it up into chapters to sorta give a bit more of an explination towards developments and get a bit more in depth about it for once.
Display properties.
This has been delayed for SO long, and finally I've gotten around to doing it. Finishing the display properties menu. The display properties has been the bane of my existance about this website but yet my best feature, just from the schemes feature alone. But this week I have a new addition, and that is to say I now have desktop icon schemes! Inwhich, allows you to change the desktop icons based on preselected spritesheets (Which you can also change by the command prompt!).
At the moment there are 6 presetswhich you can select, I recently did a massive sprite redesign for desktop icons based on my new character, Petra! But that's for a future update, for now I've set the default spritesheet and included all of the old ones, which you can select from, alongside being able preview them at a smaller resolution to be compatiable with the display properties window.
Tumblr media
I've also added a few other settings which you can see previews of, not all of which are programmed yet, so at a future date I'll either change them around or program them. But for now, I've added the ability to change desktop icon sizes to a more native modern scale, but leaving the default setting as the classic windows 98 recreation.
I've also added additional wallpapers, only accessable through the effects tab and "CSGO MODE" which was featured in the background of the preview blog post, which recreates the settings for my counterstrike mainmenu, along with adjusting the desktop icons and wallpaper to fit.
Tumblr media
As previewed above, designed to be a slight nod to my recent "Neon Genesis Evanjollion" video, featured on my youtube channel. I've recorded and animated my counterstrike character with loopable animations which play continuously in the background.
Now, I know this is a lot of text for what seemingly is a minor update, but the main reason I was able to design the latest additions to the effects tab was because of the recent massive rewrite I've had to do in order to fix a bunch of problems I was coming across, one of which being how unoptimised themes were reletively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left: new code which include schemes selection and the new effects menu toggles. Right: old code, only including schemes selection.
This entire re-write revolves around basically storing arrays of data rather than manually switching values of variables, along with tons of adjustments to unneeded variables and how theme data is required to be stored, as CSMODE needs to store the theme data to be able to toggle from the data needed to switch from the current scheme to CSGO mode.
I cannot understate howmuch of a rewrite this is, and as much as I would like to say "I really don't get why I ever did it otherwise", I would be lying. But this is a super incredable optimisation and looking at this comparritively makes me super pleased with how far i've come from knowing nothing about HTML/JS to this. Jquery is a godsend.
Start Menu
On my newly found optimisation craze, I've also done tons of rewriting to the startmenu, another long overdue reform. Even though I've recently done a rewrite on this thing, I knew there was still tons of improvements with my new knowledge of jquery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Top image: old code in Javascript Bottom image: new code in Jquery
I've also put aside a few hours of time to dedicate creating new assets for the start menu. It became REALLY hard to find a nice and consistant style which windows 98 used, but it was really hard to find sources of any of the original assets but also have the levels of details I knew windows 98 for, especially when tons of the assets from windows 98 came from windows 95, which still relied on 8 bit colour in some instances.
So I did a bunch of digging and found the assets Windows 98 used at the end of it's lifespan and modified them a bunch to put into Vher98, giving my own personal touch and hopefully to keep the art direction of icons a bit more consistant and unique to look at and use.
Task management
Alright, last big one. Task management. Another long overdue reform was needed for this thing. Prior to this month, tasks relied on whatever manual order I decide to create the task and assign a number to, the number will dedicate placement on the taskbar depending on which value was the highest.
So for example, the Display Properties will ALWAYS be the third task on the taskbar if you was to open everything up, simply because I didn't know how to calculate the placement prior to designing tons of assets. Especially when the original conception of the site RELIED on myself manually creating the visual look of the taskbar as the entire site was designed based on images. From windows, taskbar to the starrtmenu. It was awfully inefficent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Top image: Example of windows being opened from oldest (left) to newest (right). Bottom image: The new optimised and redesigned code for calculating taskbar placement and task assignment.
Anyway, that being said I now have automated calculation for taskbar task placement. If you open a task, it will open and remain in the order of the task being ordered. Writing this makes me have a smug little grin on my face just from how happy I am I was even able to get this to work properly, and it's only a few lines of math to even get the result I have.
Conclusion
There's tons of other stuff I wish to go on about, but that's why I have patchnotes. if you wish to read them, you can check them out on my github, or in the Startmenu of Vher98.
There's a few bugs I need to get around to fixing, but I've invested a few hundred hours into this thing over the past month alone and I really should take a break to get onto other projects I wish to get around to completing.
I recently started developing a mod for Terraria and some drawings I want to get around to finishing sooner or later. But, the most important thing I REALLY need to get around to is branding. Over the past month or two I've been growing more and more displeased with how I present myself and the fact I have stagnated a bit within the realms of my carear and I need to get around to sorting these personal matters sooner rather than later.
I'll be back with a couple of projects. It might take a while but I promise it's for a good cause.

Don't Strauss Too Much (Crygi) - Mumu
A/N: Back on my Crygi clownery! A big thank you to the lovely @sportcox who helped me brainstorm this title <3
Summary: Gigi needs a tutor, and Crystal is happy to help her out.
Gigi Goode is going to throw herself off a cliff.
She’s been staring at her flashcards from yesterday’s music theory lecture for what feels like forever now, and she’s still no closer to memorizing the information she needs to know for her quiz on Friday than when she got here.
She and Nicky are sitting in the corner of their favourite cafe, notebooks and highlighters sprawled out on the table among cups of coffee and various sweet treats. Normally, the cozy atmosphere always puts Gigi into a good mood, but today she’s far too stressed to enjoy the experience. She has a week to memorize a whole chapter’s worth of material. So far she’s wasted most of her time just staring blankly at her notes.
“What kind of demon professor gives a quiz on a Friday, anyway?” She complains.
Besides her, Nicky laughs. “Take a break if you’re so upset about it.”
“That’s not how it works,” Gigi mumbles, even as she closes her folder and takes a sip of her iced coffee. She slumps back into her seat. “Music theory is gonna be the death of me, I swear.”
“I don’t even understand why you’re taking it,” Nicky says, tapping her pen against her teeth distractedly.
“I needed the credit,” Gigi explains in a monotone. “I thought it would be easy, but Professor Visage doesn’t even give us completion credit for homework.”
“Oh, the horror,” Nicky smirks at her. “Imagine, Stanford professors not giving you full credit just because you turned your work in.”
“Shut up,” Gigi pouts. “What am I supposed to do now?”
“Can’t you just drop?” Nicky steals a bite of Gigi’s tiramisu, giggling when the other girl swats her away. “Hey, I’m helping, I deserve some of your cake.”
“I can’t,” Gigi says, rolling her eyes at Nicky’s antics. “Missed the deadline.”
“Just get a tutor then,” Nicky suggests. “Isn’t that Crystal girl you like also taking it? You said she was doing well last time.”
Gigi very nearly chokes on a macaroon.
“How… do you even remember that?” She gets out, coughing.
“As if I could forget. That’s all you talked about the entire two hours we hung out. You were all, ‘Crystal’s so good at theory’ and ‘Visage likes her so much’ and ‘if she weren’t so pretty I could be able to hate her.’” Nicky teases. “Besides, you know I love to play matchmaker.”
“Yeah, well, I hate to break it to you, but that’s not happening. I can’t even talk to her, let alone survive a tutoring session with that girl.” Gigi says.
“Okay, well, it’s not like you have any other options.” Nicky is unimpressed.
“Then I’d better just accept that I’ll bomb this quiz.” Gigi pops another macaroon into her mouth in self-pity.
“No, not on my watch.” Nicky insists. “Just message her, it’s not that hard!”
“Absolutely not,” Gigi says. She reopens her folder, looking glumly down at the index cards tucked into the pocket. “Like I said, I’d rather fail.”
She’s too busy staring down at the material in front of her to notice when Nicky grabs her phone until it’s too late. “Hey!”
Nicky just cackles, angling her body so that Gigi can’t interrupt her typing. “If you don’t have the guts, I’ll do it for you.”
“Nicolette Doll, I’ll kill you,” Gigi says, trying to grab at her phone.
Gigi glares at her friend, calculating about a hundred ways to dispose of her body. She has half a mind to drive her dessert fork into the blonde’s neck in an attempt to stop her from going through with this. Gigi bats at Nicky’s arms, attempting to wrestle the device away from her.
It’s no use. Nicky’s grip is strong, and Gigi watches with growing horror as the blonde types Crystal’s Instagram handle into the explore page. Nicky doesn’t even need to type the full name; Crystal pops up into her recent searches as soon as she inputs the first few letters.
In usual circumstances, Gigi would at least be embarrassed, but right now she’s more horrified at the prospect of messaging Crystal Methyd.
Crystal, the girl who she’s been crushing on since the very first music theory lecture. Crystal, who’s probably the reason she’s barely pulling a big fat D in the class in the first place, since, as it turns out, staring at the pretty Latina sitting in the front row isn’t a very effective learning strategy.
“Nicky,” Gigi says, trying a different approach. “I’ll do the dishes for a week.”
“Too late!” Nicky grins at her, far too proud of herself. She hands the phone back to Gigi. “Your welcome.”
Gigi stares down at her phone screen, blinking dumbly at it.
Hey! This is Gigi from music theory. I needed a tutor and was wondering if you might wanna help?
Gigi’s gaze darts from Nicky to the screen, and then back again.
“I hate you,” She decides, puffing out a breath at the end of the sentence. “Why am I friends with you?”
“You’ll be thanking me soon enough.” Nicky shrugs. “Oh! Look, she’s typing!”
Gigi feels a rush of dizzying panic at Nicky’s narration. She snatches her phone closer to her chest, doing her best impression of a chipmunk with a peanut. A glance down confirms, yes, Crystal really is typing out a response. Now that Crystal’s already seen it, it’s too late to unsend the message. God, she’s probably weirded out by the random request. Why did Gigi think bringing this up with Nicky was a good idea?
“Uh-uh, I don’t trust you anymore,” She scolds, voice only shaking a bit, as Nicky tries to peek over her shoulder. “You can sit there and if you’re lucky I’ll fill you in.”
Nicky huffs, pouting. “Putain.”
Gigi’s about to retort when Crystal’s typing icon disappears, and a message replaces it.
hi gigi :) of course!
Gigi fights the dumb smile that’s threatening to burst across her cheeks, hyper-aware of the fact that Nicky’s watching her intently. She can feel the french girl’s gaze on her, practically burning a hole through her ponytail and skull.
Crystal typed the message in lowercase— Gigi’s not sure why she finds that so endearing, but the detail lodges itself in her brain and Gigi files it under the mental list she’s begun to keep this semester. Little things about Crystal: she likes big earrings, her laugh sounds like liquid sunshine, her hair is a different colour every other week. And now, the newest addition, she types in lowercase.
The smiley face Crystal sent peers up at her.
Her phone pings again. how does tuesday sound? maybe at 3pm?
“Bitch, what’s happening?” Nicky asks, craning her neck in an attempt to catch a glimpse of their exchange.
A flash of annoyance shoots through Gigi. For some reason, she feels very protective of this little exchange. Nicky’s well-meaning, she knows, but she’s not quite ready to share Crystal yet. It feels kind of exciting to know that this… well, whatever this is, is just between the two of them.
“Nothing so far,” She says. Nicky seems to accept the answer, going back to reading a section in her textbook.
Sounds good. We can work in the Lane reading room if that works for you?
The response comes almost immediately. totally, yeah! see you then
Gigi tries not to feel disappointed at the lack of a smiley face this time around. Keyword: she tries to. But it’s hard to read the signs over a couple of text messages, and she re-reads the last text she sent. Did she do something wrong? Was it too formal? What does Gigi respond, now that she isn’t sure if Crystal just texts everyone smiley faces, or if the girl is flirting with her?
Gigi grabs a chocolate chip cookie and takes a bite, stalling. There are two chunks of chocolate in the mouthful. Gigi takes that as a good sign and decides to go for it.
Looking forward to it! See you then <3
She regrets adding on the heart as soon as she presses send, but there’s no way to take the message back now. Gigi settles on stuffing her face with the rest of the cookie in regret.
She waits a few excruciating seconds, but no response comes. Fuck, she shouldn’t have added that heart. Crystal must think she’s totally creepy. Gigi flips her phone facedown on the table and picks up those flashcards again.
Nicky sees her make like she’s going to continue studying and lets out a snort. “Good luck, girl.”
“Nice to know you have faith in me,” Gigi shoots back, chewing at her bottom lip.
Nicky’s right, though. She doesn’t get anything done for the rest of the half-hour they’re there, her mind too full of thoughts about study dates and smiley faces to focus on anything else.
***
“Ugh!” Gigi tosses another dress aside, falling back onto her bed dramatically. “Why is this so hard?”
Nicky looks up from her phone. “You’re the one that’s making it complicated.”
Gigi throws a pillow in her general direction and the blonde shrieks as it hits her. The impact makes her fall out the beanbag she’s currently sitting on with a loud thump.
“Merde, okay, I’ll help!”
“Thanks.” Gigi flashes a cheeky smile at her.
Nicky puts her phone down and contemplates murdering her friend. “What do you have so far?”
“Uh,” Gigi holds up a tweed dress. “This?”
Nicky can’t help it: a snort escapes her. “What are you, Blair Waldorf? That’s way too fancy.”
“Alright then, uh,” Gigi fishes around for a bit, before showing Nicky a floral two-piece. “What about this one?”
“Hell no, a set looks way too put together.” Nicky shakes her head. “You wanna creep her out?”
Ten minutes and half of Gigi’s closet later, they’ve finally settled on a winning combination: a leather jacket and Gigi’s favourite pair of jeans.
Nicky insists that she doesn’t need a bra under her mini cardigan, so Gigi rolls with it.
A little part of her is glad that Nicky’s so passionate about Gigi flashing Crystal her nipples: at least she will have someone to blame when this all ends in a train wreck because she’s coming on way too strong.
Also, the mental image of Crystal getting flustered— well, Gigi would be lying if she said it wasn’t convincing.
Gigi’s alarm goes off and she grabs her phone, groaning at the time. “Shit, I’m gonna have to power-walk there.”
“I’ll see you after then,” Nicky says, winking at her. “Have fun with your little crush!”
As it turns out, Gigi didn’t have anything to worry about, because Crystal is late. Gigi takes a seat by the windows, spreading out her stuff. She tries not to think too much about the girl she’s currently waiting for, occupying herself instead with watching the people outside.
“Hey, sorry I’m late!” A voice says. Gigi turns and comes face to face with Crystal. The girl slides into the seat next to Gigi, her smile a little sheepish. “Art History is on the other side of campus. I guess I didn’t give myself enough time to get here.”
“Oh, uh,” Gigi flounders, not sure where to look. Is it weird to look into Crystal’s eyes? That feels a bit too intimate. She settles for focusing on moving her pencil case from her left to her right. Crystal’s looking expectantly at her, and she swallows hard, trying to clear her mind of Crystal’s tanned skin and cute freckles.
“No worries!” Her voice comes out weirdly high-pitched and she cringes inwardly.
Crystal doesn’t seem to notice her strange behaviour, flashing her another sunny grin. “Okay! Is there a specific section you want help with?”
Right. Tutoring. That’s why Crystal is here. Not so Gigi can stare at her, and certainly not to get to know Gigi or anything like that. Gigi can’t help the pang of disappointment that she gets at the reminder. Part of her forgot this is strictly a school-related thing. Gigi suddenly feels stupid for overthinking her outfit and draws her jacket closer to herself. Hopefully Crystal doesn’t notice how dressed-up she is today, because Gigi doesn’t know if she’ll be able to survive that embarrassment.
“I’ve been having trouble with secondary dominants,” Gigi says, pulling out her workbook.
“Okay, yeah, I can help you with those!” Crystal grabs a pen. She leans over, tracing the chords with it. “Can I write on this?”
“Huh?” Gigi asks stupidly, cheeks warming. Crystal’s shoulder is pressed against hers, and although it’s perfectly innocent, Gigi’s still hyper-aware of the way her skin feels too warm from the contact. She tries to stay perfectly still, not wanting to spook the other girl into moving away from her position. “Oh, uh, go ahead, totally. That’s fine.”
“Right, great, so let’s use this question,” Crystal says, marking something down on the book.
She’s close enough to Gigi now that her perfume envelopes the space around them. She smells like honey and coconut, a warm mixture that Gigi finds comforting. A curl slips over Crystal’s shoulder, and the girl bats it away. Gigi almost melts at how cute the action is.
This week Crystal’s hair is a muted matcha colour, and Gigi thinks that it suits her. It’s the prettiest she’s ever seen Crystal. Then again, she thinks that every time Crystal walks into class with a new colour, so maybe it’s less of a testament to the colour itself and more to how utterly head-over-heels Gigi is.
“The key signature is A Major, and this chord starts on a C. So you can count down a fifth from C, and you get F, which means that the chord is an F Dominant Seventh,” Crystal explains. “Do you know what the next step is?”
“Um,” Gigi says eloquently, brought back from her daydream by the question. How long did she zone out for?
“Sorry,” Crystal says, tapping her pen on the workbook rapidly. “I lost you, didn’t I?”
“No, it’s okay, just,” Gigi chews at her lip nervously, then immediately regrets it because she definitely has lipstick on her teeth now. “Can you go over it again?”
Crystal nods. She takes a sharp inhale like she’s going to say something, but seems to change her mind, instead offering Gigi a reassuring smile. “Of course, yeah.”
Gigi shifts awkwardly in her seat at the action, unsure what Crystal’s thinking. She’s about to ask, or say something when Crystal jumps into the explanation again. Gigi tries her very hardest to pay attention this time, but she still finds herself staring at Crystal’s lips. They’re coated with a glittery red gloss, and they look so shiny and plump that Gigi really, really wants to kiss them.
“Wanna try one on your own now?” Crystal asks.
Gigi blinks. “What?”
Crystal sets her pen down, eyebrows raised. “Did you get any of that?”
“I, uh,” Gigi stammers, trying to find some way to save the situation. Her cheeks warm, and the realization that she’s blushing makes her even more flustered. “Sorry, I’m just really out of it.”
Crystal offers her a sympathetic smile, patting Gigi on the arm comfortingly. “Hey, you’ll be fine, okay?”
“Yeah. Sorry, I’m just worried, I guess.” That’s not it at all, but Crystal doesn’t need to know that.
“I won’t let you fail, promise,” Crystal says with a wink. Gigi can’t help but giggle at the action, and Crystal pokes her playfully. “You got this!”
“Thanks,” Gigi mutters, worrying her bottom lip with her teeth through a soft smile.
There’s a slight pause, both girls regarding each other with a hint of shyness. Gigi swallows thickly, eyes flicking around Crystal’s face. Her breath is coming quicker now, and she feels a bit lightheaded.
Crystal has picked up her pen again, nervously clicking it under the table. The sound is threatening to overpower Gigi’s already scattered thoughts. Gigi’s hand goes to cover hers out of instinct, to stop the rhythmic clicks. The back of Crystal’s hand is soft, and Gigi’s fingers loop lightly around her wrist, feeling the fuzz brush against her fingertips. Crystal stops clicking the pen, but Gigi doesn’t remove her hand.
Crystal takes another sharp inhale in, and Gigi thinks the girl is going to shake her hand loose. Nothing happens, though, and for the second time, Crystal seems to swallow her words.
Gigi’s mouth feels sticky, and she runs her tongue along her teeth in an attempt to get rid of the feeling. Crystal presses her lips together at the sight, and Gigi feels a wave of adrenaline so strong it almost knocks her flat. Every fibre in Gigi’s body wants to crash herself against Crystal. She wants to feel the lip gloss slathered on the other girl’s lips on her own, and to drape her arms over Crystal’s shoulders. Her clammy hands twitch as if they might truly act on the desire without Gigi’s approval, and she balls them into fists to suppress the urge.
“You look pretty today,” Crystal says, more air than sound to her words.
Gigi hums. “So do you. You always do.”
Another few moments of stillness. Gigi finds it surprisingly comfortable, existing in Crystal’s space. She focuses on the rise and fall of Crystal’s chest, subconsciously mirroring the pattern with her own breathing.
Crystal’s the braver of the two.
She makes the first move, flipping over their hands so that hers is on top and using that to tug the redhead closer to her. Gigi slides obediently forward in her seat, her legs slotting around Crystal’s. Crystal walks her fingers up Gigi’s arm, raising goosebumps as she gets higher and higher. A chill runs through Gigi’s body, and she regrets not wearing a bra for the second time today. She shifts, straightening her spine, and immediately has to bite back a whimper when she feels her nipples brushing against the knit of her cardigan. By the smirk on Crystal’s face, the moment hasn’t gone unnoticed. There’s a challenge in her eyes, and Gigi feels her throat close when Crystal’s hand brushes her cheek.
Fucking tease, Gigi wants to say, or maybe scream. Hurry up and kiss me.
But Gigi doesn’t, she just sits there and tracks Crystal’s movements with her eyes, and shivers when Crystal tucks a fallen strand of hair behind her ear, agonizingly slow.
“Do you want me to kiss you?” Crystal asks, tilting her head in faux innocence.
Gigi bristles and feels her hands jerk impatiently in her lap. “Yes, fuck.”
But Crystal doesn’t let her get it that easily. She shakes her head, curls bouncing gently around her face. “No, say it.”
Gigi splutters something in between a curse and a laugh. The absolute nerve of this bitch. She doesn’t bother saying it again, just rolls her eyes lightly and leans in. Her patience has worn thin, and Crystal’s lips are too inviting to not feel them on hers right this moment.
Crystal ducks away and Gigi is left hanging there for a second, confused, before she opens her eyes with an annoyed huff. “You-”
“Say it,” Crystal repeats. The corners of her lips turn up slightly like she’s fighting a smile. Her hand goes to cup Gigi’s chin. “Wanna hear you say it, Geeg.”
Gigi literally feels her vision cloud over for a split second at the nickname.
Okay, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but her blood is buzzing in her body and she swears everything has gone a bit fuzzy around the edges. In any normal circumstance, Gigi would probably be over this little game of cat and mouse. She could just kiss someone else. But this is Crystal Methyd in front of her, and that’s enough to make her decide to shelve her pride for now.
She wets her lips and whispers what Crystal wants to hear. “I want you to kiss me.”
Crystal narrows her eyes at Gigi, and for one terrible moment, Gigi thinks Crystal is going to find another excuse to deny her, that she’s going to pull away and tell her that this has all been some kind of cruel power play. But then Crystal’s closing the remaining distance between them, and Gigi takes a sharp shock of air in and has to blow the breath out in one great big rush because Crystal is finally, finally kissing her. It’s tender and soft, a bit more elementary school than anything, and it’s perfect.
Crystal pulls away before Gigi can slide even closer, and she whines unashamedly, shuddering out a shaky breath. Crystal’s hand brushes against Gigi’s chest as she lets it fall, and Gigi’s breath catches. This girl is going to be the death of her.
“Been waiting to do that for a while,” Gigi admits, still a bit breathless.
“I know,” Crystal says. There’s a pretty blush adorning the highs of her cheeks, still visible when she continues. “I was wondering when you’d work up the nerve to talk to me. You stare at me every class.”
“Bitch! I wasn’t that obvious,” Gigi defends.
Crystal just blinks at her. “No, you were obvious as fuck.”
“Oh.” Gigi feels heat blooming on her cheeks.
“Aren’t you gonna ask me how I know that?” Crystal prompts. Gigi still looks a little confused, so she continues. “I only noticed because I was watching you, too.”
“You liked me and didn’t make a move?” Gigi exclaims, hitting Crystal on the arm playfully.
“It was more fun to watch you struggle,” Crystal says, waggling her eyebrows.
“You suck.”
“If I kiss you again will you forgive me?” Crystal pulls an exaggerated sad face, clasping her hands together.
Gigi just snorts and closes the distance. Their lips mesh together softly, just as dizzying as the first kiss, and when she pulls away Gigi can still feel Crystal’s gloss on her lips. She smacks them together, trying to blend her own lipstick with the bright red goop.
“So. Do you think you can try a problem now, Miss Goode?” Crystal grins mischievously at Gigi.
“I don’t know, you’re quite distracting,” Gigi counters, a smile pulling at her lips.
Crystal just hums, pointing at a row of questions. “If you get three of those right in a row, I’ll kiss you some more.”
“On my own?” Gigi really would rather go on kissing Crystal.
“C’mon, it’ll be fun, we can make it a game!” Crystal sounds hopeful enough that Gigi finds herself wanting to keep her happy. “Please?”
“What, now you’re the one begging?” Gigi teases.
She picks up her pencil, getting to work. Something about this new studying strategy is more effective than anything she’s tried before, and before long, thanks to Crystal’s teaching (and the kisses peppered between each problem set,) Secondary Dominants make perfect sense.
Come test day, Gigi sits right next to Crystal, in the front row, and makes a respectable 82.
If Professor Visage notices the hand-holding and stolen glances they exchange in the following lectures, she doesn’t mention it. The professor just seems grateful that Gigi’s finally absorbing the content for once. And as for the extent of her knowledge of why Gigi is suddenly so motivated to come into her class every day, well, Visage’s knowing smile says it all.
