Duke Reminder for when you get back from your run or whatever you’re doing (probably actually running but idk 🤷‍♂️)

Im sorry friend this is so late, it got buried in my ask and I forgot.

I've obviously lost most of the energy of the rant but I'll sum it up with: Duke's origin with the We Are Robin (WAR) movement marked DC doing something different with the Robin title. These weren't specially picked Chosen Ones. These are kids of Gotham trying to take back the city, being inspired by the heroes to do what they can to spread their own light in the darkness.

Duke being a leader of that movement, having met Batman early on (Zero Year) and making his own way apart of but still adjacent to the Batfam. In my mind, Duke would be like cousin Kate, in that he's absolutely a Bat, but he's not like beholden to Bruce and he kinda does his own thing. The idea of the WAR being almost like Baker Street Irregulars, like street level heroes to do good and if it gets too big, you call in the OG Bats. This is the perfect space for characters like Harper/Cullen Row, Maps Mizoguchi etc to fit in. They could have their own separate stories that occasionally link up with the Bats.

Duke is serving as a leader/Oracle like figure watching out for and organizing the Robins. When Bruce realizes he can't stop Duke or the others, he ropes Duke in and gives him equipment, training and generally helps the kids. Because Bruce is looking to the future, the future he won't always be able to save but if he can save these kids and empower them... then they can save themselves and Gotham. So Duke is a Bat, no questions. Its a joke amongst the WAR that Duke knows the Bats personally, sees them outside of costume. He and Jason vibe really well and Dami respects him for the good hard work he's doing.

Idk, I like Duke as a character but I will admit it eats at me that this kind of exciting, bold, progressive new character was kind of tosses aside for the same old 'nice kid, dead/unavailable parents, becomes Bruce's ward, slap him in a costume and fight crime'. It doesn't matter that oh! He's dayshift or Oh! He has powers!!! It's still the same formula. I love making jokes about Bruce's revolving door of kids but at some point it's gotta stop. Duke being his own dude, alongside the Bats making real change in Gotham. God that would have been So interesting guys and I'll forever be upset about it.

#like the we are robin stories are themselves bad #but the concept guys #do you KNOW how weepy eyed I got at the idea of gotham kids looking up to Robin and saying 'that could be me?'#and not waiting for Batman to magic them away and Choose them #they ARE Robin #even if theyre only Robin for a block of Gotham #they're filling in the cracks the big guns miss #and form a cohesive network of kids who are sick of the city failing them #Duke being charming charismatic bold and decisive as a leader #like hes a Bat but he has the freedom of not being a son #Bruce tells him No at something and Duke is like whatever #He has his own people! his own responsibility! Bruce and co are just there as support and backup!#Im sorry thats one reason I cant get into canon Duke #because they stripped him of his parents and his home built community #and threw him at bruce as a sad orphan who Chose him and made him a hero #its just............ its just the same thing #and sometimes god bless I want something different

Eventually I'll get to reading all the comics Duke appears in solely to be more justifiably irritated at [nonblack] folks who keep calling him "insane" and "crazy" for choosing to be a vigilante hero in a world with entire networks of vigilante heroes that take in and train protégés who also choose the life of crimefighting. Maybe I'm just missing some context that I'm not getting from all these posts with snippets of "examples" from the comics of said "insane" and "crazy" behavior...but nothing I've seen so far of his behavior is particularly bizarre nor an unreasonable series of decisions.

Also it's Gotham; if you're expecting people in a literal cursed city that gets gassed with various toxins constantly and has one of the worst police departments in-universe to not have eventually developed programs to teach their youth survival and self-defense skilks to increase their likelihood of surviving frequent supervillain crime, producing kids like Duke who have ideas of what they need to do when they organize and take matters into their own hands just like the child vigilante hero(es) they modeled their movement after...what is the thought process?

#'he's so crazy for that' and he's not doing anything different from the 5 Robins who came before him #most of the robins became so by their own obstinance and choices #in that bruce knew a trained child vigilante is better than an untrained free roaming reckless child trying to beat up armed criminals #so if they're determined to hit the streets no matter what then they'll do it with guidance and on his terms #so no I don't find Duke's choice an anomaly but following an established pattern #and the snippets I've seen show maturity + compassion + quick reflexes + situational awareness + street smarts #things I'd expect a leader of a youth movement of this nature to have...and yes teenagers can be that intelligent #Black teenagers can be that intelligent and possess those skills and it would not be out of the ordinary for them #this is such a weird phenomenon that I don't see happen to the other robins independently of duke #and they do much wilder shit at his age than what I've seen him doing so far and specifically what's been pointed out as so 'crazy'#i see a Black boy in cape comics and immediately need to go to bat (haha) for them. leave miles and duke alone they are normal actually #y'all act like you've never interacted with Black people let alone Black children in your lives #also going to gag if I see another post calling duke a cinnamon roll. Be Normal challenge failed #just bc a lot of his predecessors are assholes you would be miserable interacting with on a regular basis doesn't make duke innocently sweet #'look he is Gentle and Cares A Lot' that is normal people behavior hate to break it to y'all #'he's not about vengeance and trying to figure out why the world is cruel' it's cause he's Black and thus already knows why #and vengeance is nowhere near as important as uplifting and protecting your community. sorry he lives life through a Black perspective #ciboria rambles

Dp x Dc AU: Bruce has a 'if you can't beat them, join them' mentality about the tabloids claiming he adopts too many kids- Developing foster homes that are paid for through the Wayne inheritance, personally vetted by the Bats, they're the leaders in the space for child health outcomes and family placement. Insert Danny.

Bruce has too much wealth, too many rumors and not enough reach into the abhorrent foster homes around Gotham to improve them. Tim ends up being the one to suggest it- He's the one who buys up their real estate for their safe houses after all- and Bruce is more than ready to pull the metaphorical trigger to get new clean welcoming spaces, Bat-background checked fosters and a new era of adoption in Gotham underway.

He's lobbied the state and the federal government for reforms of course, but this is a project he can micromanage. He spends time with every kid that comes through, talks with all the families that want to adopt and makes sure that these miniature homes are provided only the very best. Alfred personally hires all the staff, and with Barbara more than happy to help relocate the unhoused children she spots while they patrol, the project is a glowing success.

Occasionally, spots in their houses fill up, and those are the weeks were Cass takes on the Cowl of Batman- Bruce Wayne will personally invite a child in need to his home. He always has one of his kids present (they rotate on a pre-determined schedule) and he does his best to try and get them to understand that they deserve the world, have all the potential that anyone else has and can achieve a bright future. That he will personally aid them in their ambitions.

PR goes crazy for it of course, but Bruce and all of his children know its genuine. Almost too genuine, because a betting pool 'WILL THEY BE ADOPTED' regularly circulates between the siblings and the entire JL when someone spends time at the manor. And not just the black-haired, Blue-eyed kids get picked as favored outcomes- but obviously the running joke gets passed around.

It's a Thursday night when Bruce gets the call that the houses have once again filled up, and that there is a child in need of a home. The social worker (he knows her as Marsha and he has flowers planned to be sent on her birthday next week, like he does for all of his employees) (Say micromanaged one more time) explains that the kid is a bit cagey but has opened up with some humor. She explains that he has a few strange... mannerisms. She's not sure what to make of him, a non-gothamite for sure but something is, well, distinctly 'not from around here' about his energy.

Danny arrives at the house, meets Duke and Alfred, and by the time Bruce meets him at the dinner table it seems as though Marsha had it all wrong. This kid was laughing, he was teasing, he was totally playing along like he'd gone through nothing. Bruce is glad he's in high spirits but its just so... so different from all the other children he's taken in.

Bruce re-focuses on the conversation when Duke mentions something flashing, and its the first time that Danny goes quiet. Entirely still.

"...you noticed that?" Danny quietly asks, a bit of disbelief in his tone.

"You don't have a flashlight on or something do you? It was super bright whatever it is that you had in your hand a second ago?" Duke tries to sound chill but he's looking very much not chill. Bruce saw nothing, and that puts him further on edge.

"Look... I uh, I've been though... I've been through a lot lately. And the last lab I was in kind of, messed with me. I'm normally much better at dealing with it all, I promise." Danny sounds nervous, and the room seems to chill.

"Ah shoot, sorry." Danny notices something and frantically apologizes.

"Sorry for what Danny? You've done nothing wrong but I am worried about you- You said you were in a lab?" Bruce is desperately trying to calm him down while not slipping into Batman interrogation mode.

"Uh, yeah, like a lot of labs. It should get warmer in a second, its just cause I startled, I promise."

"You're a meta." Duke speaks softly and with hope in his voice- Danny is looking between them with wide eyes filled with fear.

"I mean I don't technically have the gene-"

"Danny, have you told any of your case workers where you were? Do any authorities know what you've been through?" Bruce needs to know, desperately, that who ever gave this young boy super powers is brought to justice. Danny goes quiet.

"I'm really sorry." He says softly, but he doesn't leave them.

Duke and Bruce try to ask a few more questions but the silence that meets them declares the conversation over, even with Duke admitting he himself is a meta. Danny didn't even look up from his plate. They watch a movie after dinner, and Danny seems to get back to the smile-y happy guy he had been before dinner.

Each of the bat-fam have their own interactions with Danny- And even if they're getting along amazingly, Danny won't open up. He doesn't open up to his provided therapist. Doesn't talk to Alfred. No one knows what's up.

So when Marsha calls Bruce back explaining they now have a spot for Danny and he can move out of the Manor... Bruce replies that he'd like to get started on Adoption paperwork, so long as Danny is fine with it.

Turns out, Danny is fine with it. he's both the newest Wayne and their newest case. (And godamnit, his new family is going to avenge him. If only he'd let them try.)

Danny figures out that Duke= Signal early on because of that dinner, and if he's going to keep his parents out of jail, he needs to be as close to the investigation as possible. He knows that he shouldn't protect the Fentons, but he feels the upset in his core at the thought of letting them befall any harm. He has to protect them. Has to protect Jazz and her hiding spot as a mole within their lab. Has to.

Even if it meant lying to his new family who loves him, and who he loves in equal return. Even if it means lying to The Bats.

Cave boy Danny AU where he's half asleep and rambling as he mentions some people back home like his exes (especially Valerie), his English teacher, this stalker of his who he likes messing with, and the annoying fruitloop who's the bane of his existence! They're concerned. Only once he's fully awake when they ask for names.

Lancer is Alfred, Talia is Val, maybe Paulina is Julie Madison but idk, Wes is Edward/The riddler (I'm pretty sure there was a time he had a reddish orange hair. Either way, he was the same model as Danny so maybe Wes dyed his hair to not be confused with the Fentons in this AU), and Vlad is Ra's!

Hello! This actually falls out of my planned plotline for Cave Boy, but I will write something for you that is close to the prompt to make up for it! Hope that's okay and that you like it

Flash sends them a message sometime in the early afternoon before any of the Bats are ready to go out. In fact, Damian, Duke, Steph, and Jason are in class when his message arrives.

Bruce, Dick, Tim, Cass, and Barbara are at work. As the Flash is one of the few who knows what the Batfamily is doing during these hours, it is rare for him to bother at this hour. He would have usually waited until after five as that was when a majority of them became available.

They all quickly check their phones when they vibrate to ensure it's not a world-ending threat, just in case.

Since the messages would be sent to their civilian phones- anyone in the know of the Bat's real identity chooses to text in a very specific code. This way, no one would know what they were saying, and the Bats would realize they were speaking to who they thought they were.

Barry Allen chose Disney theme GIFs as his code.

A gif of Mulan singing Reflections lets them all know that somehow, the speedster has again opened a portal into a different dimension and/or mess with time.

"Why is my reflection someone I don't know?" meant "A double of one of you has crossed over from a different dimension and/or timeline"

This causes a brief ripple of anxiety. The last time someone had a double, it was Tim, and his future version of himself was crazy, evil, and surprisingly capable. It took Tim almost ending his life to beat the guy.

Thankfully, the second GIF comes through seconds later. This one is Mulan's Honor To Us All.

"Please bring honor to us all" meant "The double is friendly."

The last Gif was from Lion King, Timon cheerfully singing Hakuna Matata. "It means no worries for the rest of your days" meant "Sorry for the trouble."

Those in class return to their various lessons, but Tim quickly responds, "I love that movie! We should watch Mulan again the next time I see you, Uncle Barry!"

This means, "We will meet the double tonight."

The rest of the day drags on as they all slowly start to make bets on who the double would be for. They all agree that Cass is long overdue to face herself again. Still, Dick makes the complying argument that Duke needed to have his first "My counterpart from another dimensional/ Timal plane" moment.

They all actively hope Duke can clear another block on his Bat-bingo card. He gets two more and a complimentary tray of any of his favorite Alfred's desserts.

That night, they all meet up in the watch tower, each clutching their bingo card just in case. (The game resets every month, and so far, Jason has written down the most accurate predictions. He needed two more squares for a cooking lesson of his favorite meal, and he was out for blood)

They all silently go to the conference room, where Barry entertains the guests. Apparently, they were trying to find discrepancies in their world's history and the double's life to help find which world they came from and send them back.

They were being shown the main rouges to test the timeframe.

"Is that Wes!?" A young male teenager yells. Sadly, Steph swears, staring at her "A new Batgirl from a different world" box.

"We call him Edward when he's not in his costume. Otherwise, his name is the Riddler." Barry answers, amusement clear in his voice.

"Riddler? How is Riddler menacing? What does he tell you, riddles of death or something?"

"You be surprised......."

Bruce gets to the door, pushing it open with a quick flick of the wrist, and inside is Barry sitting at the conference table next to a boy with dark hair and blue eyes. In front of them is a hologram showcasing the Gotham Rouge files.

There are papers and pencils scattered on the table. Likely, they have been writing down notes of the differences they have spotted.

Barry's eyes flicker to them, but the boy is too distracted to count on his fingers.

"Okay, so Wes is Riddler, Val is Talia, Fruitloop is Ra's, Sckuller is Bane, and ugh....for some reason, Spectra is Harley Quinn." The boy finishes checking his notes.

"For some reason? I thought you said Spectra studied psychology too."

"yeah, but Harley Quinn actually got a Ph.D. What did Spectra do? Land a school counselor position? Please." The boy rolls his eyes dismissively, and Barry frowns.

He's never taken kindly to people disregarding another person's profession, especially if it was connected to the educational system in some way.

"Hey now, that's an important job, and you need years of study before you can be a school counselor-"

"I bet Spectra peaked in high school. That's why she's like that." The boy cut him off, nodding as though he had found the universe's answer.

Well.....this was either a version of Jason, Tim, or maybe early Dick, that was a little too sassy but not angry? It's not sad either; it's more like, fed up? Or teenage tired.

"Oh, who are they?" The boy asks, and Barry zips right next to Batman.

"Danny, meet Batman...the you of this world. And his kids."

Danny squints. "Who is your mom, and how easy am I? Because there is a lot of you that I fathered for me to not be easy."

Jason burst out laughing, checking a box. "Yes, someone calling Bruce easy in costume. That's on bingo for me!"

Red Hood needs a dye job!

There are a list of people that know Jason is Red Hood. Bruce, Dick, Tim, Damian, Duke, Cass, Steph, Alfred, Roy, just to name a few. And they all know because they're his family and they work to serve justice in this city alongside him.

And after all those names on the list of people who know Jason is Red Hood, comes you.

You see, you wanted to follow your passion. Your passion being hair dressing. Which you followed all through cosmetology school. So you ended up working in a hair salon.

It's Gotham. You're closing one night and you're alone. But you've done it before. Nothing different. You make sure to shut the lights off, unplug the dryers, close the bathroom door, and bring down the gate.

What's waiting for you is not expected.

"Can I make an appointment?"

You yelp and turn around. There in all his dark and gloomy glory is Red Hood. He's standing taller than you, his arms crossed over his shoulders. Just looking right at you.

"What?" you ask.

"Can I make an appointment?" he asks again.

You look at him then. You can see it. The white tuft of hair peeking out from his hood. Huh. Red Hood has white hair.

Well you're not about to stop your self from getting a client. Rent is cheap but it's not that cheap.

"I'm sorry, how would that work? Does the mask stay on?"

Red Hood comes to you every other month for a dye job. He comes to your house, at 2am every second Tuesday. He knows the way up your fire escape and knows to send you a text before entering.

He sits at your kitchen sink. You prop him on a chair.

You lather on the black dye and let it sit. And when he's done, he leans back and lets you wash it out. The first time he came over he didn't let you style it at all.

But he's since then become more comfortable. He lets you put leave-in conditioner. He lets you style it with a brush and a dryer.

For all intents and purposes you are Red Hood's hair stylist. And no one knows that besides you and him.

Tim: My crime alert's going off.

Harper: Mine too.

Duke: Must be big.

Bruce: Suit up and rendezvous in three.

Dick: *sighs and pauses the movie*

Dick: Can't get one night in this damn city.

Tim: Steph, why are we at a karaoke lounge?

Steph: I know the owner's cousin's hairdresser's dog walker's sister's girlfriend and I convinced them to let us use the party room. Don't worry, it's just like a TV screen.

Steph: *puts on Pitch Perfect*

Steph: Ooh, I love this part.

Steph: *grabs a mic and starts singing*

Everyone:

Damian: *stuffs napkins in his ears*

Jason: Since we decided on Pride and Prejudice, I thought I could play it at my safehouse.

Dick: Sweet, thanks!

Bruce: Jason, be reasonable.

Harper: Yeah, you got this junk off the side of the road.

Tim: Then what are we supposed to do?

Jason: Fire escape's around the back. You'll get a decent glance.

Dick: *leans his head in to hear better*

Jason: My air, my rules.

Jason: *closes the window*

Barbara: Uh, why isn't there any sound?

Cass: Volume button broke. Just read lips.

Jason: Kinda hard to do that with the brightness at zero. Did that stop working too?

Duke: Looks fine to me.

Jason: Shut up, Flashlight.

Luke: Nothing like a good ol' drive-in movie. Great idea, Helena.

Helena: I know, and the Godfather is perfect for this.

*Batmobile crashes through the screen*

Steph: Sorry we're late.

Duke: I'm still figuring out the PRINDL.

Bruce, trying to flirt: I like what you've done with the curtains.

Selina: Thanks, but it was Snowball's after-dinner surprise.

Steph: M&Ms are obviously the right answer by the way.

Dick: I got a slushee.

Jason: I got the slushee machine.

Bruce: Alright then, take your seats. The movie's about to begin.

"I love all my siblings equally." yes but there are some they get on with better than others and that's just life. Doesn't mean the love isn't there for everyone it just means there are some you'd rather sit on a couch with and chat about your day.

Dick Grayson: Favourites are Tim and Damian. Jason is right below them and if you asked Dick he'd say he loved all three of them equally but the sad reality of not having enough time with Jason before he died means that the love is different. It's just as intense but they don't actually get on as well as he does with Tim and Damian. So for this ranking he doesn't make the top spot, sorry Jason.

Jason Todd: It's Duke. Before Duke it would have been Dick and Jason hates that so he's very grateful to Duke for being a little brother Jason doesn't get the urge to shoot and dunk in the trash.

Tim Drake: Look it's always going be Dick Grayson for him. Being a Dick Grayson fanboy was a core part of his character concept. But given everything that happened since he first became Robin I'm going to put Cass up here too. Because it's my post and I'm biased and I love them. Plus I do think with the arrival of Damian and everything that went down Tim would sometimes find it easier to hang out with Cass than with anyone else. Middle child solidarity etc.

Cassandra: Tim and Duke. She just gets on with them the best. She doesn't hate Dick and Damian or anything, they're just less likely to know what combo move she wants to do on a random henchman with only one look.

Damian: Dick. He's the only one who's actually put any thought into this and is willing to rank them all out loud but the top spot has yet to change. Cass and Duke switch second and third place while Jason and Tim switch places at the bottom, depending on who's annoyed him most that week.

Duke: It's Cass. Sorry Jason. Duke is also the only one who if questioned, wouldn't have Dick in his top three.

Babs: Well it's not James Gordon Jr I can tell you that much. (If she thinks about it seriously she'd probably say Cass. Cass doesn't see Babs as a sibling as much as a mom but Babs is way more comfortable with the big sister label.)

Steph: Technically she doesn't have any siblings but if she had to pick someone she'd say Babs or Damian. Out of all Bruce's kids she'd rather hang out with Cass but their relationship is uh. Definitely not sibling like. With Babs she's like a cool older sister and with Damian Steph is his cool future sister in law. (Damian does not agree with this assessment of their dynamic.)

Making the drawing and video itself took a little over a month. But I had been planning out the text portions (translation, text excerpts, ideas for puzzles) of it for a little over a year (my planning document dates back to May of last year and somehow amassed 12K words..?).

I wasn't working on it continuously for a year, though; it was just an on-off project that I was lazily thinking about for a while.

He thought if he had one there he could slip it under his old school's strict "no piercings allowed" policy by just closing his mouth every time a teacher walked by.

Some of the birthdays are specific dates with meaning, then the rest were filled in throughout the remaining months of the year in a somewhat even temporal spread.

In Bonus Episode #2 with Xander, he mentions the name Duke Spurling with distaste in regards to the Chariton incident. Are Richard Spurling and Duke Spurling the same person? Or separate people? If they're the same person, is Duke a nickname or a title?

Duke Spurling and Richard Spurling are different people, but they are brothers. Duke is (was?) a politician. Richard is a billionaire philanthropist who founded the Spurling Foundation. Duke is not officially affiliated with the Spurling Foundation, but he did receive sizable political donations from that foundation while he was still active in politics.

Duke is a first name, by the way, and not a title. Also, Duke is quite old, in the 80-something-ish age range. Basically, old enough to have been alive during the Tragedy.

When I designed Ace from the start, I wanted him to wear heels (because he is short), but I thought that it was inaccurate for a jockey's outfit, and I didn't do it. But then later I remembered that he isn't jockeying at the moment, so it would have been fine if he wore heels. In any case I decided it'd be okay to add them back in his new design.

When it comes to jockeying, Ace wishes he was shorter (he is on the tall side for a male jockey), but for all other aspects of life he might find it bothersome to be shorter than everyone else. So he might have a tendency to wear shoes that enhance his height. Subtly of course.

Also, he has 9 siblings.

It’s good to have names to refer to characters, so here are the names of some characters who have been referred to in the story (and additional information about other characters as well)

Fuyuko + Natsuko Nageishi (Arei’s older sisters, by around 2-5 years): They are identical twins, in both appearance and persona. Actually, their appearances are mirrored. The two of them are always seen together and share everything with each other. They are best friends and very close.

Ryan Rosales (J’s younger brother, by about 1-2 years): He likes playing video games, and the two of them play games often. He also loves annoying J. One of his hobbies is cross-dressing.

Elliot “Ellie” Cuevas (Charles’ older brother, by about 11-13 years): Although he has not had an appearance yet, he looks shockingly similar to how Charles looks now. His favorite food is pancakes and his favorite animal is dogs.

Felicity Giles (Arturo's younger sister, by about 3-4 years): She also has not made an appearance yet. She has low self-esteem and admires Arturo a lot.

These characters (and others) have reference sheets, but those are meant for internal use only, so maybe later I will draw reference of their designs to show you all.

Hello Neil Gaiman! Since I adore your work and read your books with interest, I would like to ask a couple of questions that torment my brain regarding the book "Good Omens". Not a series, but a book, I think this will not be a huge spoiler, but just funny and interesting facts. Sorry in advance, there were more questions than I initially expected) 1) What do Hell and Heaven look like in the book? We've seen the posh portrayal of Hell and Heaven in the show, but the book implies they're more stereotypical. Hell - caves, lava, fire, creepy horned creatures around, Paradise - a blooming garden or a beach resort with white angels. Is it so? There were only a couple of hints about the heat in Hell in the book, it would be interesting to know if this is actually the case. 2) What do Hastur and Ligur look like in the book? Are they in human form or real creepy devils? As a designer and animator, this question torments me the most, sorry) We saw that Beelzebub is described as a red-skinned horned monster, but what do the two dukes of the Underworld look like?3) Hastur is more concerned with this issue, is he from the very beginning a bunch of larvae or a demonic creature with larvae inside? Or is he one of them in the truest sense of the word?4) Does the Dark Council of Hell include such high demons as Mammon, Asmodeus, Belphegor, Leviathan, Lilith?5) Stana and Lucifer are different demons or not?6) Are the tortures and executions in the circles of Hell the same as Dante's or are they somehow different?7) Hastur threatens Crowley in a rather interesting way: "You're going to get taken to the bloody cleaners, pal". There are some kind of blood cleaners in Hell and it is better not to mess with them?8) Do all demons have a true form from a crowd of larvae? It's just that not only Hastur loves this image, but also Crowley, which, it seems to me, is not particularly to his taste. So these are their demonic forms?9) Why in the book Hell and Paradise pretend that everything is in order, and do not try to blame someone for the failure of Armageddon? This is the best scene in the series!Sorry in advance, there are too many questions, but of course you can only answer the most favorite and important questions, and yes, thank you very much!

Generally the best thing about books is that they leave questions unanswered, and the best thing about fanfiction and headcanons is you get to answer those questions to your own satisfaction.

Well, since Hell isn't exactly like human's society, it's hard to equate. But if I have to compare, I'd say that he's like an Arch Duke or a Marquess in Hell.

Oh, Hell doesn't take kindly to the news of Sebastian's progeny being carried by a human pleb. It's a shame to its denizens. To fool around with human and use them for all sorts of pleasures, sure. They tried many times to attack and end both Ciel and the child's life. If Ciel thought he had a huge target on his back before being the young Earl Phantomhive and the Queen's watchdog, that was nothing compared to this... Hell and heaven both out for his blood. But of course, Sebastian handled them all; absorbed all his brethren into the endless shadows of his being with such ferocity never seen before in the ancient entity. Eventually, Morning Star understand that Sebastian was not relenting his protection on the boy and his hybrid child, and wanting to see how this hybrid might survive, maybe even disturb the set order of the universe, he ordered the demonic legions to stand down.

But that doesn't means all is well for Butler and Earl. There's yet another struggle they're faced with; this one isn't so easy to deal with by force.

As I have said before, the demon fetus, with its demonic appetite feasting on human life force, is nothing short of a parasite. The reason Ciel was still alive was because the fetus needs him. The moment it’s no longer reliant on its host, it will kill Ciel. As such, at the beginning of the pregnancy, Sebastian wanted to remove the thing,(he'll even do it without Ciel's consent, just to see him live a bit longer, despite knowing Ciel will hate him). But Ciel saw through him and ordered Sebastian to protect them both. Sebastian could only obey. But he hated that parasite and was struggling to come to terms with the fact that Ciel’s already short human life (and their time together) is cut even shorter still because of this thing. And Ciel won’t let Sebastian save him, just because it’s theirs. Just because it’s his. Human are so different from Demons like that.

For the first time in eons of existence, Sebastian learned to mourn. And what a weird thing that was, when Ciel is still right here. But the end is nigh and it’s inevitable.

Sebastian is unsure whether he could ever come to love a thing that would take Ciel away from him. But Ciel is confident that he could, and he would. It’s their child after all.

The Little Batgirl (Yandere Platonic Batfam x Child Reader)

Chapter 2 - Meet the Batfamily

Warning: None, just a bunch of batfam fluff

(Anything that reader says in a bolded text means she's in "thought of mind.")

From now on, this series will be posted on my yandere batfamily account, which is @yan-batgirl

Y/N stares at herself in the mirror as she tries to do her hair by making the perfect twin tails hairstyle.

After she had bounced on her new bed for nearly an hour, the same butler from before, Alfred, handed her a box from Bruce.

When she opened it, she saw a folded-up white costume-like dress that contained a white helmet with bat ears with small pink hearts on each side.

It also included small pink hand gloves and a pair of hot pink Astro Boy-like boots along with a bright yellow utility belt.

Her head was tilted, but she just shrugs it off and puts on the strange costume that was gifted to her.

However, after she put on the costume part, she was just staring at herself in the mirror, not knowing what to do next.

So, she decided to strike a pose.

Y/N was walking behind Bruce, Damian, and a group of unfamiliar looking people that Bruce had mentioned before.

A young man was wearing a black hero suit with a blue “V” minus the blocky boots and gauntlets who introduced himself as Nightwing, or his usual name, Dick Grayson.

A young guy who is probably around his teen years, he's probably around 17 or 18 whose name is Tim, but Damian calls him Timothy for some reason.

Another young guy is wearing a bright yellow suit as he carries his helmet which is the same kind of yellow is named Duke.

A girl who looked a bit younger than that young man was wearing the same suit as Bruce's Batman suit who hadn't introduced herself to the young girl yet.

Y/N just stares at them as they chat about random things.

"What an interesting group..." She said in her head before one of them turned to her.

"So, what made Bruce take you in?" The young man asks with a friendly looking smile.

Y/N actually didn't know.

She tried to come up with something to say before Bruce interferes.

"She's a child that needed to be taken care of. Y/N came from a rough household and needed to be taken care of since nobody wanted a child who was nearly seven years old. So, treat her with respect just like how you do with the others of this family," he tells him as he takes off his bat mask that reveals his face.

The man nods in response as he eyes the little girl from each second passing by before she finally catches him staring at her.

"Why are you eyeing at me like that? It's weird."

She tells him before he just focuses walking ahead.

"Sorry about that!" He said with a sheepish smile as Y/N just stared up at him with a eyed down look.

"He's weird." Is all she said in her head.

Then, she looks up at the slightly older girl next to her, who is dusting off her batsuit.

"Who are you?" Y/N asks as she points up at her which made the other girl smile down at her.

"I'm Cassandra. You can call me Cass if you like," she responds.

Once again, Y/N was in thought before she spoke up.

"So, Cass, why are you guys dressed up like that? Including me?" She asks out of curiosity.

Then, the doors of the dining hall open and reveal the table that is filled with different kinds of pastries.

"We have... A tradition," she said with a smile as she led them to the table.

The table reveals a bunch of desserts that has a various kinds of desserts.

The group sat in their seats as Y/N just stood by the doorway, not knowing what to do.

It was then Cassandra called out to her.

"Hey, Y/N! Come sit next to me."

She said with a smile as she tugs the chair back for Y/N to sit on which she did.

When the little girl took a seat, everyone just basically started to dig in with the pastries in front of them.

"All of these are made by Alfred. Most of these desserts won in a lot of awards."

Cassandra tells her as she takes a bite of one of the cookies.

"Does that mean they're really good?"

Y/N thoughts to herself before she nods before she takes a bite of a cookie.

The taste of the sweet, crispy dessert made her eyes wide open as her pupils turned into a shape of large stars.

"These are so good!"

She said before she took another one and shoves it in her mouth, which made some of the people laugh, including Bruce, who let's out a chuckle.

"Do you guys so this everyday?"

She asks as she shoves another cookie into her mouth.

"Only when we come back from missions without any injuries, but since this is basically your first day, we decided to do this tradition ."

Tim replies with a smile.

Later on, Y/N was sipping a cup of tea, which she later made a scrunched up face because of the bitter taste.

"I don't like this..."

She said as she sticks out her tongue.

This made Cassandra lightly chuckle.

"I get it. Dick actually made that."

She said as she pointed with her thumb towards Dick, who was leaning against his seat as he bites into a small piece of cake before he heard what she said.

"Oh, come on! I told you that I'm not an expert at making tea."

He said as he chewed with the cake piece in his mouth which made Cassandra roll her eyes playfully with a smirk on her face.

"Yeah, I get it."

She said in a playful tone.

Y/N looks up at him before she shows him her teacup that still has tea in it.

"No offense, but your tea doesn't taste that good."

She tells him, Dick just lets out a small chuckle.

"Welp, at least I tried."

After the lovely dessert time that they all had, the only ones left at the dining table were Y/N and Bruce himself who was watching her finishing up the last piece of the angel cake.

"Was it good?"

He asks her before she looks up and nods with a big smile on her bed.

"Yeah! They were right when they said that Alfred won a lot of awards with these desserts."

She said as Bruce smiled softly and nodded at her response.

"It's true. I've seen it all."

He said with as he clasped his hands together and stares into her eyes.

"Now, let's talk about your life from now on in the Wayne Manor.

Y/N tensed up by his words as she just stares up at him with wide eyes.

"Oh no! The real pressure is starting!"

Bruce then lets out another heavy sigh before he leans towards her a bit.

"Are you ready to be part of the batfamily?"

For weird reasons, a weird sense of silence was filled up.

Y/N looks up and just stares into Bruce's eyes.

"Huh?"

"I asked if you were ready to be a part of us."

She continues to look up at him with a dumbfounded.

"Me? A part of the bat... what?"

Bruce lets out a gentle sigh before he points at the costume she was wearing.

"Do you see the costume you're wearing right now?"

Y/N looks down and nods.

"That costume resembles the sign of the batfamily. It means that you are now one of the protectors of Gotham. However, I don't know if you really are capable of doing this, so that's why I'm asking you if you are ready to spend your life in this new position that you're going to hold."

Bruce explains to her as his gaze softens a bit.

"You're still young, so I want to give you a chance to think about your decisions before actually committing yourself into this family."

Y/N listened and then got into thinking.

"If I don't join, I could get kicked out and might be thrown out into the streets or sent back to the adoption home. But at the same time, if I did join, it'll be a life or death situation..."

She continues to think about the hard decision that she's going to make.

However, the more she thought about it, more exciting thoughts are starting to fill up her head.

"If I choose to stay, I can keep this costume and maybe go on astonishing missions with my new dad and maybe my new siblings. This is going to be very exciting!"

She said in her head as her eyes brightened like stars.

Then, she leaned to Bruce with a huge, determined smile on her face.

"I'm in!"

Summary: You and America get stuck portal jumping until you reach your universe again. In the meantime, you meet various versions of your husband.

You're staring out the window when a woman's voice broke your trance, "I'm surprised you're still here."

You turn to see a woman in elegant, yet casual wear. Jessica, your mind clicks, Lady Jessica. Your husband's concubine and your dear friend. Mother to your step-son, Paul.

You completely face her, "Sorry, I was just thinking."

"About?"

"My time here.," you answer, but Jessica looks at you knowingly. You chuckle, "What?"

"Is something wrong?"

You shake your head, "No, should there be?"

"You seem different," she walks over to you and grabs your hand, "Stardust, whatever it is, you know you can confide in me, always."

You nod, "I know, thank you. It's just..." you're conflicted. The mind, is at war right now. The memories of the 'original' you and this you are clashing. You're seeing flashes from this universe, the one before that. You're seeing Marc, Richard, Laurent, all of these different versions of your husband. Your head is pounding and you start feeling dizzy.

"Y/N? Y/N!" Jessica yells out as she catches your falling form. Before things fade to black, you hear, "CALL THE DUKE! NOW!"

"A prison?!" Steve exclaims in surprise, "Y/N's a prisoner in this universe?"

"Seems so," Stephen Strange answers as your necklace glows bright, "This is the brightest I've seen this glow." After discovering the spell to help track you down, him, Steven, and America had travelled to five other universe, such as one where Marc was a homicidal drifter and another where he was a Russian security guard. It was very...odd, for Marc and Steven to see themselves as such.

"So this is a good sign right?" America asks, "Because it's glowing so bright, that means the next universe or so, we'll find her, right?"

"Here's hoping so," Stephen leads them further into a forest near the prison, "Alright, kid. Go ahead."

For the past few universes, Stephen has been transporting them. America, still guilty for losing you, had been apprehensive about using her powers. It took a lot to bring her confidence back. Thankfully, Marc and Steven didn't blame her at all for losing you. A lot of her guilt had washed away, but she still felt bad.

She steps forward and gulps. She's mentally hyping herself up. With a deep breath, she pushes her palm out and a portal the shape of a star appears.

Stephen gives her a proud nod, "Good." He proceeds to walk through the portal with Steven following behind and then America after them.

When they walk through, they're standing on a grassy cliff. The sky is gloomy and huge waves are crashing against the cliff.

Your necklace is hot and bright in Stephen's hand, "She's here." He states, "We just need to find her. Remember to stay vigilant and don't run into our dopplegangers."

America salutes, "Aye aye, Doc!"

Steven nods, "Yeah, alright."

You're sitting on a picnic blanket in Potters Field Park with the perfect view of the Tower Bridge and River Thames. The sun is shining on you, a slight breeze going by. You're focused on the book in your lap.

Marc lays beside you on his side, his arm propping his head up. He stares at you with so much fondness in his eyes while you read.

"You're distracting me," you simply state, eyes not moving from the book.

"What? Can I not stare lovingly at my wife?" he asks with a smirk.

You look up from your book and he's still smiling at you. You place your bookmark in between the pages of where you left off and shut the book. You poke Marc's shoulder and he falls onto his back. You proceed to lay down with him, taking your place in his arms, right where you belong.

The both of you lay in silence, cherishing the warmth of each other and the ambiance of London around you.

You feel him kiss your head, "Love you, baby."

You smile and curl into him more, "Love you too."

Your eyes snap open. You're confused and head still hurts . The lights in your bedroom are low, but you hear the crackling of a fire ablaze. You take a quick inhale as you sit up, alerting the others around the room.

"Stardust," Leto says in relief as he rushes from his chair, Jessica sitting beside him.

"What happened?" you ask, rubbing the sleep from your eyes.

"We were talking in the training room. Something seemed off about you and then you just fainted," Jessica answers.

"If you weren't feeling well, you shouldn't have trained with me. You should've told me," Leto looked slightly upset with you, but mainly concerned.

"No, no, I was feeling fine. I..Who's Marc?"

Leto's brows furrow, "Who?"

"Marc. I-I had this dream, but it didn't feel like a dream. Like a memory. Leto, it was you, but not at the same time. Same face, but you went by Marc and-and we weren't here in Caladan. We were...I'm not sure where we were, but you were there."

Leto looks at Jessica with confusion and concern. She shakes her head in response to his silent question, but then speaks, "I will seek council with the Reverend Mother Superior. Perhaps she might know what's going on."

You hold your head, trying to grasp what's happening. In your mind, you're still getting glimpses. You see yourself with Leto here, your marriage that occurred for political gain, but then grew into genuine love. You see yourself spending time with Jessica, allowing yourself to not be jealous of the relationship she has with Leto. You see Paul training with you and Duncan.

But then in slips, other versions of Leto. One where he's in some sort of masked costume, another where he's bald with a beard and waring a sweaty tank top. Another where he's wearing some sort of tactical vest.

"What is happening to me?" you ask to no one in particular, but Leto answers.

"I don't know, but we'll figure it out," he reaches out and takes your hand. It feels comforting, his callous hands in yours.

"Well...that went well," Steven snarks as him, Stephen, and America are lead towards some sort of throne room. A woman stands at the forefront with a questioning look on her face.

"Who are you and what brings you to our planet?"

"Ah, so not only are we in a different universe but a different planet, splendid," Steven retorted and Stephen shot him with a glare, "Sorry," he mumbles and looks down.

"Marc?" the woman asks, which causes Steven to look up in surprise.

"Did you just say Marc?" he asks.

"Are you Marc?" she asks skeptically.

"Uh, well, yes, but also no. I-It's a little complicated, but, I-er-"he takes a sharp inhale and stares for a bit, when he comes back to, his demeanor is different.

"I'm Marc. How do you know my name?"

"The lady of the House, Y/N Atreides, she mentioned your name earlier. Why?"

"If I may-" Stephen stepped forward but Gurney immediately stuck his arm out.

The woman held up her hand, "It's alright, Gurney. I sense these people aren't here to harm us."

"Lady Jessica-" the burley man's words halt as Jessica gives him a look. He lets out a disgruntled sound before dropping his arm and taking a step back.

"Y/N, she's here?" Stephen asks.

"Yes, but she's in no condition to speak right now. She's resting."

"We need to see her," Marc demands.

"Marc-"

"No! We've spent all this time looking for her and she's finally here! We can take her back with us!"

"Calm down-"

"I want my wife back, Stephen!"

The woman holds up her hand again, "I will bring you to Y/N, however, I need some answers before you do."

Leto had moved to join you in bed. He lays beside you and you're resting your head on his now bare chest. He's gently rubbing his hand up and down your arm. You feel at peace, that is, until the door opens to reveal Jessica.

The both of you sit up, "What did the Reverend Mother say?" you ask.

"I didn't speak to her yet. We had some unexpected guests." she steps to the side and in runs America with Marc and Stephen behind her.

"Y/N!"

Marc pauses as he sees his doppleganger with longer hair, fuller beard, but the same cautious expression he gives when he's around strangers.

"What's going on?" you ask.

Marc's attention goes back to you, "Hi, baby," he says in relief and goes over to you, "We're to take you home."

"You're Marc. You were in my dream."

"Baby, that wasn't a dream. It was a memory. This isn't your universe. This isn't your home." he reaches out and places his hand on yours, "We're your home."

You pull back your hand, "No, you're not. This is my home. You're-You're just a figment of my imagination. Or-Or I'm still asleep!"

Marc looks at Stephen, "What's happening?"

"I was afraid this was going to happen."

"What was going to happen?" Marc stands and approaches the sorcerer, "What didn't you tell us?"

"Will all of the universes she'd been dragged to, her mind, her memories, they're getting jumbled. The ones from our universe and the others, she's now struggling with her other selves."

Leto slips out of bed and goes to Jessica, concern written all over him, "What did you do?"

"Nothing, my love, I, promise. These people...they come from another universe and it seems that Y/N," she gestures to you, who is now listening to America, "is from their universe."

"And what, we just let them take her from us?" Leto asks with hostility.

"I've already called for the Reverend Mother. Hopefully she will be able to-"

"NO! I WON'T GO WITH YOU!" you're yelling. Leto immediately pushes past Marc and America who seem to be pleading with you.

"Leave her alone!"

Marc stands chest to chest with his doppleganer, "Listen, she doesn't belong here. She belongs back with us in our universe. She's my wife!"

"You need to leave."

"Or what?"

"Or I make you leave."

Marc and Leto glare eat each other, one trying to best the other. However, their attention goes back to you when you speak, "Wait, let me see that." you point to the necklace in Stephen's hand.

Marc grabs it and holds it out to you, "I gave this to you for our anniversary. Whenever we went on missions, you asked me to hold it because you didn't trust yourself to keep it safe."

He places the necklace in your hand and a burst of white light blasts out of the pendant, blinding you and everyone else in the room.

The Double (Ep. 17): Into the fog of the unknown

I'm not a fan of color theorizing, but they're really pulling all the stops here to communicate how different Xue Fangfei and Duke Su's relationship is, aren't they?

What I especially love about this visual parallelism is that while there's some similarity in the camera's framing, there are significant differences in the context and blocking of the two scenes:

The moment doesn't take place in an idyllic fairytale setting under falling blossoms but instead outside a seedy gambling den in the pouring rain. Although Fangfei might be drunk, she's no longer under any illusions about the dangerous world she has decided to enter for her revenge.

She's no longer dancing to her ex-husband's tune but instead forging her own path and reveling in the well-earned success of her life's gamble.

She doesn't feel the burden of acting like a demure and selfless wife and daughter-in-law but instead free to express herself (and, to a certain extent, her desires). See also: @songkangsbottomteethcirca2020's excellent analysis of Fangfei and Duke Su's character development.

SIDE NOTE: I laughed when she teased Duke Su (sorry, I guess we've graduated to "Xiao Heng" now) for getting shy at her calling him handsome. She can't admit her growing attraction without using alcohol as an excuse, but she wants him and recognizes his feelings too, which is why she gets annoyed when he rejects her for not being sober enough.

As usual, he gives her enough space to encourage her to think through the situation so she can exercise her autonomy and take full accountability for her choices.

What I find so compelling about their dynamic is that Fangfei might not be able to share the full truth of her situation, but she trusts Duke Su enough to have expectations of him. So when he confronts her for not only being dishonest about her feelings but also her identity and revenge plot, she still offers a small drunken confession:

Duke Su: I'll take you home. Fangfei: Home? I don't have a home anymore.

It's a just another confirmation of what he already suspects but it's painfully honest and makes her vulnerable. Yet despite learning more about how her attempted murder fits within larger political machinations at the Capital and how involving himself can affect his own plans, he still decides to side with her:

Duke Su: What coincidence. I also don't have a home anymore.

Unlike with her husband, Fangfei's faith in Duke Su isn't misplaced.

(Although I now wonder if there's any symbolism in the switch in costuming from her blood red robes to Shen Yurong's white. Will Fangfei sacrifice Duke Su in the future like her husband did in the past?)

Also, this gorgeous shot of them (literally) crossing a bridge into the fog of the unknown together?

I adore The Double's shameless sense of drama.

I think the only right way for Damian to become Batman is much slower than everyone thinks

Just image: Damian in the future as a veterinary student, slowly distancing himself from the world of vigilantes and Bruce, an old man, with aching and tired bones, who has suffered with chronic pain for years (you'll have to take chronic pain Bruce Wayne and Jason Todd headcanon from my cold dead hands) getting ready to go on patrol once again. There are a series of murders happening and he wants to investigate

And Damian goes into the cave (maybe to take care of Batcow) and see the scene. He feels sorry for his father, Bruce's love for Gotham cursed him and now Gotham was slowly killing him. Then Damian calmly approaches and gently pushes his father into the chair. And in a tired voice Damian says:

“Leave this to me today, father, take your medicine and rest.” "No, Damian. You have to go to college today"

"Gotham is my city too, they're my people too...and they still need Batman"

Damian also knows that Dick has his own city to worry about; that Jason is busy on some mission around the world; that Steph is too tired for this; that Tim is too attached to the Robin mantle for that; that Duke recently had a child with his wife; that Cassandra is now a renowned ballet teacher and Damian doesn't want to get in the way of his siblings' lifes. He knows that if he asked, someone would accept, but everyone is so happy now, it took so long for them to reach that moment... Damian then decides to sacrifice himself that night.

Only that night

He will becomes Batman just that night, so his father can rest, he makes it clear that he will only do it that night

"Don't get used to it, father, it's just for today"

But that news spreads like fire. Even Jon and the other heroes start to inform Damian about things that happen (Batman still is very important in the Justice League) and Damian? Damian ignores

He goes through the messages, emails and claims he only did it once and never again. He forwards everything to Bruce, not wanting to get more involved than is convenient

but then the next month, Bruce has another rough night and Damian takes up the mantle again. This becomes a strange habit between the two of them, slowly and silence, one night a week... two nights a week...

The biggest change happens when Bruce is seriously injured fighting someone much stronger (and younger) in the sewers of Gotham. Damian had an important test at college and Bruce didn't want to call him, it wasn't fair to push that on Damian when the boy made it clear that he didn't want the mantle. So Bruce lies there for hours, in the midst of pain and dirt trying to reorganize his mind until Damian appears, the youngest son noticed that his father hadn't come home yet so he got worried and went after him.

Damian and Bruce open a pact that night, Bruce would stay in the cave supervising and Damian would work in the field

This works very well at first but soon Damian comes home to see his father sleeping, and it becomes a routine. Damian is happy that his father trusts him enough to sleep while his son is on patrol, that's good

the truth only shocks Damian when at a league meeting Jon refers to him as Batman, not Robin or Damian, no. Batman. The Batman.

and even though many people believe that he became Batman out of neopotism, the truth is much more different and sad than that. He became Batman through his own choices and effort, to protect his tired father and also to protect Gotham. Because, in the end, Damian learned to love Gotham the same way Bruce loved it.

Note: I love imagining this old Bruce slowly realizing how unfair he was to Damian his early days, how Bruce only saw Damian as a spoiled brat, a monster covered in blood and mud instead of helping him like Dick, Alfred and Steph did . I love imagining old Bruce kicking himself for not noticing Damian's gentle, compassionate side sooner. Side that was underneath all the anger, dirt and trauma

And also Bruce realizing that Damian is as gentle to people as Talia was in the past Note²: I'm not trying to villainize Bruce and sanctify Damian; Damian did a lot of things, but he was a ten year old child who didn't know how to deal with the world (+brainwashed by a cult) and Bruce was a grown ass man who had been dealing with traumatized people for many years, Bruce should have been more patient with Damian but you still have time now Bruce, you can do it. I believe on you, you can still be a good father
