asian-ifying the batfamily with technically-not-quite-canon evidence but it makes enough sense in my head:

dick is half romani/half white, and it sounds like romani people are considered indo-aryan, and come primarily from india but also any of the surrounding countries in that area, so we’re good here

BUT, to be extra, i’m also heavily leaning into the wfa live action that got cancelled, where dick was going to be played by yoshi sudarso (indonesian), who i love. AND dick’s voice actor in gotham knights is christopher sean, who’s mixed japanese/white

basically what i’m saying is that the dick in my head deserves to be a poc at this point

cass is already canonically chinese/white

damian is also already canonically arab/chinese/white

jason, though he is canonically fully white, before finding out his biological mother was sheila haywood, both he and bruce briefly consider lady shiva (for some reason). so. he must at least look to be mixed race for it to be a genuine possibility

also his va in gotham knights is chinese (stephen oyoung)

for tim, i am still living in the era when ryan potter made a video to campaign to be tim drake for ben affleck’s batman. it didn’t work, they didn’t want a robin for those movies, but from then on he became the tim drake in my heart

though in titans (which i haven’t actually watched), it looks like his character is blasian? (jay lycurgo) so i’m here for that too, tim is just meant to be mixed race <3

the things i would do for amaaki to be voiced by hiroshi kamiya. i can only dream. or seimei but i think seimei is meant to have the same voice as haru. i think?

i have thought long and hard abt what harus eng voice should sound like. idk lol theres no genshin character i can typecast him onto. but i think max mittelman could do it too this man has sold me on him forever with his performance as itto i believe he has the range to do anything

So I'm not the one who wants to police whether you should like or hate something, but I'm seeing more than a few posts complaining about Jason Todd in the Arkham Knights game. How I don't have a problem with people who don't like Jason's design. It isn't for everyone. However I am seeing more than a few people bashing his voice for being too gravely and not sounding like Jason and I can't stand by and let people do this without knowing the context.

Jason is voiced by Stephen Oyung. Pictured below, he's a very well versed Asian-American actor and voice actor. If you played the Spider-Man PS4 game you might recognize his voice in that Oyung also voiced Mr. Negative.

I'm completely fine if you don't like the character designs. That's fine, but Gotham Knights is so important especially because of the voice actors we have listed thus far. Every single member of the Bat Family with the exception of Bruce is being played by a POC or a mixed-race individual.

Dick is being voiced by Christopher Sean, a mixed Asian American voice actor.

Barbara is being voiced by America Young, a mixed-race Latinx voice actress.

And Tim is being voiced by Sloane Segal. A mixed-Asian actor/voice actor.

For a video game holding as much weight as Gotham Knights, to see the voice cast of the four playable characters all be mixed race or POC is fucking huge. As far as I know this has not happened for a major triple-A video game title. This is monumental and I just can't stand by and let people bash Jason's voice without this context. I know voice actors can change their pitch and their inflections to match a character. I personally thought Oyung was going to go for a much more gravely and deeper take for Jason. Yet I was surprised by how close Oyung was to his actual speaking voice for Jason. Under that context it really upsets me that people are bashing Jason's voice in Gotham Knights.

What I'm trying to get at here is that we shouldn't be attacking these artists or voice actors for their takes on characters. Yes, we have taken outrage at a design and made it loud enough that a studio can hear it and make changes. Look at the Sonic movie for example. Yes we have changed the design for the better but what about the artists and designers who out of the blue have to painstakingly redesign a character and re-animate said character in a tight timeframe. This game has already been pushed back because of the pandemic. With a release date in late October I'm guessing Warner Brother's Montreal is completely finished with the majority of the game's programming and is going through and debugging/testing at this point. I'm sure all the voice lines have been recorded and while it may be easier to do vocal retakes than say change the graphic design of a character, these VA's have already put a tremendous amount of effort into this game.

Let's try to steer away from the hatred of the Voices and the VA's because we truly do have a powerful cast full of POC and mixed-race artists. These people deserve praise for their work and the representation they are bringing to the Voice Acting world and they absolutely should be celebrated as such.

I only watch dubs tbh! I have SOOOOOO many VAs I love omg. I literally start shows I've never heard of just so I can hear the VA. Like I hate AOT but I wanted to watch it because Jason Lieberecht (dabi's VA) voices zeke too!

I'll do a quick like of some faves:

Kellen Goff, Patrick Seitz, Ray Chase, Robbie Daymond, D.C. Douglas, Matthew Mercer, Billy Kametz (rip king), Clifford Chapin, Eric Vale, Christopher Sabat, Lucien Dodge, Sean Chiplock wowwwww there's so many I'm definitely forgetting some but those are off the top of my head!

ALSO idk if anyone else does this (probably yes) but I find the dub sooooo helpful for writing. Like if I'm writing a certain character I can hear their voice in my head and if I'm writing dialogue it's so easy to think whether or not they'd say what I'm writing and if it would sound like something they'd actually think to say. As in if I was gonna write a fanfic about Jotaro I could obviously use my JoJo knowledge but bc he's also Levi Ackerman it gives me more range to help me make certain decisions!

im so excited for gotham knights, I just love the voice cast specially dicks VA, I’ve seen the guy in several shows before including the Lizzie bennet diaries, day of our lives and Star Wars resistance

From my experience in the sw fandom, Christopher Sean was so kind to the fans and really appreciated us, he genuinely cared about connecting with the fans

I also love the fact that the character he voiced In Sw was such a himbo and now dick has a himbo voice!

I feel the same about Gotham Knights voice actors. So far, all the clips I've seen of them have convinced me that they will go a great job. They all are passionate about their characters and I really appreciate that!

Christopher Sean is a great choice for Dick. Not only he has played a himbo characters before (both in star wars and in lizzie bennet diaries) but also he looks a lot like Dick.

I mean just look at him:

Ya que ví la publicidad en Gambarol y ese es un tumblr de foros de físicos animados. 2) Yo no los hago pero, ¿se permitirán pjs homosexuales? Ya que se causó mucho revuelo en otro foro de Tolkien por esa cuestión, aduciendo que en el material de LOTR nunca se menciona (ni se supone haya) pjs gays y había usuarios que querían pjs con esa orientación para el foro.

¡Buenos días! Gracias por interesarte en el proyecto. Respecto a tu primera pregunta, serían pbs ficticios. Consideramos que será más fácil encontrar imágenes así y hay muchos artistas (que deberán ser acreditados, además. Nosotros estamos usando muchas cosas de Piotr Jabłoński, por ejemplo) que hacen arte precioso de la Tierra Media, o en general, y que tienen imágenes que se ajustan muy bien. En referencia a la segunda, nos sorprende e intentaremos darte una respuesta lo más detallada posible bajo estas premisas: 1) pueden hacerse personajes LGBT+ si se quiere y 2) la homosexualidad y su existencia no son un debate, mucho menos un debate rpg. No vamos a entrar en los particulares de cómo Tolkien escribía la heterosexualidad, ni sexualidad en general como entidad porque en fin. Mucho texto y esto ya va a ser, tal vez, demasiado largo. Pero en sí mismo es un tema muy interesante también.

Dicho esto, que quede claro que si la documentación que vamos a presentar no existiera también estaría permitido hacer un personaje homosexual. La presentamos porque la declaración en sí nos parece interesante por sus implicaciones y tenemos el material a mano, así que por qué no. Lo primero es lo primero: sí se menciona. En el libro póstumo The Nature of Middle-Earth (2021) que editó Carl Hostetter con material dejado por Tolkien (como hizo Christopher otras tantas veces, con el propio Silmarillion por ejemplo) la nota f2 del apartado IV Time Scales dice así:

A día de hoy no contamos con una traducción al castellano del libro, pero a grandes rasgos, lo que esto evidencia es que afirmar que nunca se menciona es arriesgado, cuanto menos. A menudo se usan sus creencias religiosas como escudo, pero Tolkien tenía, también, varios amigos dentro de la comunidad LGBT. Su amigo Auden era un conocido poeta gay de la época, por ejemplo, y también mantenía amistad con una escritora lesbiana. Más allá de la cuestión explícita o de lo que Tolkien pretenda o deje de pretender como autor, es imposible ignorar un hecho evidente: un texto tiene tantas lecturas como lectores, y las lecturas LGBT de la obra de Tolkien no son pocas. El propio Ian McKellen, Gandalf en la trilogía de Peter Jackson, dice en el cast commentary: "When I suggested to Sean that he take Elijah's [Wood, who plays Frodo] hand... it was because I thought anyone who would care about the deep friendship (often of an innocent physical nature) ... Esto nos parece importante en sí mismo. Negarle a alguien del colectivo la posibilidad de su propia existencia, sea un mundo hipotético de fantasía o no, nos resulta cruel. No vemos motivo alguno por el que prohibir la creación de personajes LGBT+. Espero que esto haya resuelto tus dudas, o aclarado algo al menos. I think I also heard how people were complaining about Vic since back in the day, like on forums and stuff.

Yeah you'll always have detractors talking about you if you're a big enough name. I don't like Troy Baker. There's people out there who don't like Steve Blum, or Yuri Lowenthal or any other VA. And they all make up reasons to not like them.

My beef with Troy is that he was just every main character for years. There were definitely people who felt the same way hearing Vic as the blonde guy in Ouran High School and Edward in Fullmetal, and in so much more anime that I can't really think of right now.

But it really came to a head when Monica Rial and Jamie Marchi talked about him and people went to back them up, and this was suspiciously around the time Broly's big comeback movie was coming out. Suddenly a large majority of Funimation turned on Vic, even Christopher Sabat who not a week earlier was playing golf and smoking cigars with him calling him his friend.

Vic's whole situation is really shady on the funimation side of things.

Some aren't to blame though, Goku's VA, Sean Schemmel, actively told Vic he didn't like him well before that and I can respect him for that. He at least didn't betray Vic like the others did.
