“Lilia, hand him over.” Lilia whipped his head towards Leona, eyes flashing.
“What?!” he snarled, teeth bared as his grip tightened on Sliver’s sleeve. Lilia was draped over his son’s weak form, ready to defend him from the enemy that surrounded them.
A series of events had landed Lilia, Leona, Carter, Grim, Yuu, and Silver in a dark gray wasteland with no food, water, or even sunlight. During these events, they met a tyrannical Overlord who instantly became taken with Silver’s beauty, demanding the teen as his. Silver—and, of course, Lilia—refused (loudly in Lilia’s case).
After their escape, they came across more dangers, one of these resulting in Silver becoming horribly injured, which eventually led to the severe illness the boy was now suffering from. Now, the vagabonds had caught up to them and demanded that—in exchange for their safety—they surrender his child.
And Leona agreed.
“We don’t have the strength or numbers to fight them,” the Savanaclaw House warden reasoned, tail flicking. “More than that…” His gaze dropped towards Silver and furrowed sympathetically.
“Silver is injured and sick. One of those would be bad enough? But both? In a place like this? It’s a death sentence.” The lion moved his gaze back to the surrounding enemies, who had their guns leveled at them, growling as they tried to approach.
He continued, “We have no way of helping Silver in our situation. We’ll be lucky if WE can survive out here. And if Silver isn’t treated soon, he’ll die,” he emphasized the last word to get his point across. Lilia pressed his lips as the logic sank in despite his stubbornness. Leona pressed on.
“These guys want him alive, and they have the means to treat him. So, if we want him to live, we have to hand him over for now. Otherwise…” He didn’t need to finish. Lilia knew it.
Day and night, Lilia sat at his son’s side, changing bandages—which were just torn clothing from everyone--trying to treat the wounds that became infected despite their efforts, watching what little color the boy had faded from his skin. He knew that without a doctor and medicine, Silver would die like Leona said.
‘But—’ Lilia’s brow pinched in pain.
Leona had no idea what he was asking Lilia. If they took him—if they took his son—then Lilia would never find him again. Lilia could never find anybody. That meant that he would never see Silver again and this moment would be the last memory he would have of him. And who knew what these villains wanted? They could be co-signing Silver to a fate worse than death.
Yet--
Lilia lifted his hand, cupping Silver’s face.
Silver could barely open his eyes to look at him. His beautiful features were flushed with fever, and under his aurora-stone eyes were dark bags from exhaustion. He parted his chapped lips. Despite not just Lilia’s but everyone’s best efforts, they weren't able to get him the water they needed, being trapped in this cursed wasteland.
“Fa…” Silver’s voice cracked and fell to an airless gasp. The teen was so weak he couldn’t even finish his sentence. His breathing was irregular, and the breaths he did take took effort.
Lilia gripped the boy tighter, hand shaking violently with the rest of his body as he fought back his anguish. He then dropped his head, hair covering his eyes.
He made his choice. And it broke his heart.
Lilia stroked his cheek one last time, touching Silver’s feverish forehead to his.
“I’m sorry, Silver,” he whispered through haggard breath.
Lilia had to physically throw himself from the other, tearing a piece of fabric from the already damaged sleeve as he was unable to open his grip.
He fell to his knees, ripping his stockings and tearing his knees. He choked up a sob as he clenched his eyes shut, his heart aching more than it had done in a long time. Footsteps approached, and Lilia dug his nails in the soil, grinding his teeth as he fought the instinct to attack, to stop them from taking his precious angel, his light in the dark.
They didn’t touch him—they had too much of a survival instinct to do that—but Lilia still flinched as they grabbed Silver, hauling the boy away from the fae. Lilia’s form quaked with many emotions, his mind and heart begging him to do something, to stop them, to not let Silver be taken away.
Even so, he kept his head down, weighed by shame and guilt.
His shoulders were hunched, teeth grinding till they hurt. How could he let it come to this? To the point that he could only save his son by surrendering him to an enemy that had already proved itself merciless?
‘Have I really fallen so low?’ The fact he was on the ground with his head bent as others took his son away answered it all.
As he heard the footsteps walk away a few loose tears fell from Lilia’s face, hitting the ground.
This was it. Lilia somehow always knew they would part one day. But to be separated like this...
“Dada!” A little boy with the softest, most loving gaze stared at Lilia from a memory long ago, an acorn bracelet in hand. “Dada, you will always stay healthy. Then, let’s always be together, okay?”
The sob he had been trying to hold back escaped his throat, and Lilia couldn’t stop himself from lifting his head. He did so just as the ship holding Silver lifted into the air. The craft hovered for a moment --just to taunt him with the temptation to jump on it and take back what was his--before blasting off at a speed Lilia’s eyes were unable to follow until they were gone.
Till Silver was gone.
Lilia’s entire being went numb. He froze like a statue, paralyzed with grief. The torn sleeve with the Diasomnia insignia was pressed to his chest, serving as the last thing he had of the other.
This was it. Silver was gone. His son, his moonlit angel, was gone.
He barely felt the hand tightly clasp his shoulder in what could have been comfort.
“We’ll find him, man,” his friend Carter promised, bitterness edged on his words, his face scrunched with remorse. “We’ll find him.”
Lilia wanted to believe that but couldn’t.
He just knew that--just like how he lost Reven--he lost Silver.
And like Reven, Lilia would never find his son again.

Ace’s Birthday Wish
A.N: This is not based on Ace’s Birthday SSR. In fact we haven’t gotten there on the English server so it’s moot point. But I digress...
Twisted Wonderland Masterlist
—————————————————————————–
It was Ace’s birthday party and all the Heartslabyul students were there, including the first years. The cake had been cut and served and everyone was eating. The first years including Mia were sitting together with Riddle, Trey and Carter.
In usual Carter fashion, he had pretty much documented the party via pictures and posted them to Magicam. He had just finished taking the appropriate photo of his slice of cake before picking up his fork.
“Ahh, Mia!!” he cried suddenly.
“What?” Mia almost yelled, taken by surprise. She was sitting between Jack and Epel.
“When’s your birthday?!”
The first years had paused in their conversation at this question and looked at Carter before looking at Mia.
“Don’t tell me that you haven’t inquired about this before?” Riddle sighed disappointed. Mia was part of the first years and had been since the beginning of the school year. That was an entire month and no one had such basic knowledge?
And it wasn’t even a first year that asked such a question!!
“Wait! Your birthday?!” Ace cried suddenly.
“You have a birthday too?” Grim asked.
Even the other half of the student you made didn’t even know?
As Riddle felt his blood pressure rise, Trey spoke, “Of course, she does! Why assume she doesn’t?”
“I’m sorry. I feel we should have asked before now!” Deuce spoke worriedly as he looked at Mia.
“It’s fine. No big deal…” Mia murmured.
“We didn’t miss it, did we?” Epel asked.
“No.” Mia drawled.
When Mia didn’t elaborate but took another slice of cake, Jack spoke up, “So when is it?”
Mia only stared up at him stupidly.
“Your birthday?” Jack clarified.
“Ahh, November.”
“.....November…..” Ace drawled.
Why was this like pulling teeth?
Again, Mia just blinked stupidly.
“Is it uncomfortable to tell us when your birthday is?” Trey inquired worriedly.
Mia’s face twisted into confusion, “Huh, no. Why would it be?”
“Because you seem hesitant to tell us.”
“Ahh…” Mia sung looking off for a minute before smiling, “No, it’s not important.”
The group heard a pin drop as Mia took another bite of cake.
“This cake is good”, she murmured.
“What do you mean, it’s not important!!” Sebek suddenly yelled, making others in the room jump in surprise as they looked over to the group, “Explain yourself, human!!”
Mia almost choked on her piece of cake.
Riddle snapped, “You will use your inside voice, while you are here at Heartslabyul!”
Sebek muttered, “Even I know that human birthdays are important.”
Mia waved her hand, “Wrong choice of words. It’s not that it’s not important, it’s just not worth making a big deal out of. That’s all.”
Grim crossed his arms with an eye roll, “You need to do better than that, henchmen. What are you muttering about?”
Mia tsked at him.
Carter cocked his head once before asking carefully,“You’ve celebrated your birthday before, didn’t you?”
“Yeah! Why wouldn’t I??”
Ace rubbed a hand through his hair, “You are making zero sense.”
“This the rare time when it’s not you being unable to keep up and the one in question really truly isn’t making sense.” Riddle gave a pointed look at Mia.
Ace twitched at the backwards compliment.
When Mia realized that everyone was looking at her in concern, she gave an awkward laugh, “It..It’s….Look….”
She paused once to keep her thought together, “Like I’ve said. I’ve celebrated my birthday before. When I was a kid, my grandparents, parents and other extended family would have a celebration. It was a lot of fun. It’s just…as I got older my grandparents died, extended family moved or died, so we didn’t have a huge celebration like we did. And by the time I got to be a teenager, all my childhood friends drifted away. So…what’s the point in talking about birthdays? My parents and I would go out to dinner, I get my gift sometime that day and that was the sum total.”
She took another bite of cake.
“So when was the last time you had a birthday party?” Carter asked.
“I told you, my parents and I….”
“Not that! A genuine party?”
Mia looked at Carter before looking up at the ceiling, “Uh…Uh…” There was a pregnant pause, then, “I might have been somewhere around 10 years old.”
She could feel the stares she was getting and looked around the room as she nibbled on the end of her fork.
“It’s not a big deal!”
“I’m insulted as jack!!” Ace stood to his feet suddenly, “As birthday boy today, this is unacceptable!!”
“For once, I agree.” Riddle stated. He did not really have a glamorous birthday celebration until he came to Night Raven College, but he still celebrated his birthday with Trey and Chenya growing up.
Mia blinked, “What are you on about?”
“Mia, usually you are the one that is the smartest but today, you aren’t doing too well, girl.” Ace sighed before continuing, “We want to know, so we can plan you a party too. We want to celebrate your birthday. Isn’t what friends do?”
Mia blinked, “Friends? I told you, I don’t have any friends….”
“We are your friends!” cried Ace snapping, “Aren’t we?”
Mia only squirmed before lowering her eyes, “I hadn’t…thought about. Really.”
Epel spoke softly, “In all this time, you hadn’t realized you had friends now?”
Mia only looked at her shoes, the rest of her cake forgotten. She bit her lip once. A very telling sign in the boys eyes.
“Ahh, move, move…” Ace shooed Epel away, making him exchanged seats with him.
Deuce looked pleadingly with Jack who wordless exchanged seats with him.
“So now you know! So let’s stop being stuck on stupid!” Ace snapped, though there was no bite in his voice.
Mia mumbled.
“What?”
Mia repeated herself in just above a whisper, “I said, I didn’t think I would ever have friends anymore.”
Carter gasped in horror, “What kind of world did you come from to make you think this?”
Mia just shrugged.
Ace slung an arm over her shoulder, making her take a peek at him out of her eye. He grinned, “So as birthday boy, will you grant me a wish?”
Mia’s lip twitched, “Do I have a choice?”
Ace’s grin widen, “No.”
Mia rolled her eyes but still did not look up.
“I want you to consider me a friend. In fact, I want you to consider me your best friend!!” Ace declared.
“Hold on!! What about me?” cried Deuce.
Ace sniffed, “What about you?”
“She should consider me a best friend too!!”
“You can only have one best friend! Everyone knows that!” Ace stuck out his tongue, “Sorry!! Too late!! And besides it’s my birthday, so I get dibs!”
Riddle interjected, “Actually, you’re allowed to have more than one best friend, you know?”
Deuce growled at Ace, “We met at roughly the same time! There is no reason why I can’t be her best friend!”
“Are they ignoring me, or did they not hear what I said?” Riddle asked Trey who shrugged. But he could see that Mia’s lips were twitching. He wondered briefly if they knew that.
“Hold on!! If we are talking those who arrived first, then I, the Great Grim, would be here bestest friend in the world!” Grim did a backflip in the sky before posing.
“Shut up!! You are a cat at best! Don’t compete with us!” Ace snipped.
Grim breathed fire once,“Ya!! You little…”
“Alright! Alright!! I get the point!!” cried Mia, “Can’t I consider all of you my best friends?”
Deuce wrapped his arms around her arm and glared at Ace, “I don’t mind.”
Ace sighed dramatically, “I suppose, I have no choice.”
Grim settled on Mia’s lap and preened, “I know in your heart I’m first, so I will let it go.”
Mia grinned then.
“Oooh!! A beautiful candid moment! What emotion!” Carter cried as he snapped a few photos, “#FriendshipGoals #NewBFFS #NewMomentsNewHorizons!!” He giggled as he scrolled through his photos.
“Eh!! Let somebody see before you decide to post!!” Mia waved an arm, “Don’t have me out here looking like a clown!” Then she murmured, “But then again, I’m not that keen on taking photos of me anyway.”
“If you don’t like it, he won’t post it.” Riddle spoke, giving Carter a warning look.
“Of course not! If it truly bothers you, I won’t. But it’s so cute! And you look fine, Mia! See!!” Carter turned his phone around and showed them.
“Huh, not half bad, actually!” Deuce murmured.
Grim grinned, “He managed to get my good side!”
Jack snorted, “You have a good side?”
Grim glowered.
“So, can I? Can I?” Carter asked Mia who only rolled her eyes and replied,“Well, if these three don’t have any objections, I guess it’s fine.”
“I do object!” Ace cried, startling everyone. He grinned and continued, “I object as to why you haven’t forwarded this photo to us!”
Laughter followed.
“Great! So now, will you tell us your birthday?” asked Ace.
Mia teased him with a smile before answering, “November 10th!”
“Wonderful!!” Epel clapped his hands once before glaring and snapping, “Now, what are we chopped liver? We are friends too!!”
Mia only gave a shy smile and nod. “Hm, seems I have a few friends now.”
The first years, Riddle, Trey and Carter smiled.
