You and Mark have been friends for a little over two years, but only friends with benefits for about 6 months. This all came into agreement after a very wine drunk, slightly stoned,bored mentality. You were attractive. Mark was attractive(and big). What’s the worst that could happen you thought and agreed.

You hate to ring your own bell but the dick is AMAZING. Going into this you would’ve never guessed Mark would have the stamina he did. You like sweet treats and sharing them with people so you keep small bowls of different candies,chocolates, and other similar things in several areas of your home. Since Mark has been over so often, the bowl in your room had ran out and you never refilled it. After you both were done exploring each other you gave him one. Everytime. You basically trained and conditioned him. By accident at that. “Oh sweetie…thats-“ You couldn’t help but laugh and leave the room and come back with a melon candy. “Here you go baby.” Watching his face soften to a small pout was too cute for you to bear. “I thought I didn’t do a good job so you weren’t giving me a treat. Wait do you give other guys one too when they’re done if they do a good job? Did I do a good job? Wait are there othe-.”Before he could finish his list of questions you laughed and shook your head as you moved to sit across from him.

“You just fucked me, came in me, the ate me out until I came 3 times. I think you did more than a good job baby. And no there is no other guys, You have more than enough for me.” You watched as he listened and began to unwrap the candy. “Isn’t this like positive reinforcement like they use on dogs? oh my god you're treating me like a dog.””You know I do question what goes on in your head sometimes. No I’m not treating you like a dog, I just like sharing sweet treats with you.” You looked over at the bowl on your dresser and nodded towards it. “You finished that in a month. You’re here very often.” Mark looked over at the bowl and grew shy, he really was over often but he truly loves being in your presence. He does like you after all but you don’t need to know that right now. His eyes flickered down to your lips, suddenly growing a strong urge to kiss you.

“Let me share my sweet treat then.”

Not an odd ask, I’m happy to answer! Sorry this kind of turned into how they would act around the kid, hopefully thats’s ok. Lmk if you wanted something different.

Hmm I’m actually not sure about Lilia. I feel like considering he’s raised Malleus and Silver, he’s learned most of the parenting faux pas by now. Most of the time, I feel like he’d be pretty good help and it would make him happy to be around a young child again, since it reminds him of when Mal and Silver were young. Then, while holding the baby, he’d saying something completely unhinged that reminds everyone it’s still Lilia. Overall 8/10 wants to help and is pretty good at it but occasionally may make slightly ominous comments which force you to remind him that babies can’t wield a spear.

The others I’ll split into general categories for simplicity.

Happy to help with the baby, pretty good with kids.

Trey - 9/10, took care of his siblings, can cook and clean, very helpful and responsible

Ruggie - 7/10, I feel like he helps take care of the kids in his neighbourhood, can be trusted but may ask for financial compensation

Jade - 7/10, same as Vil, slightly less trustworthy

Jamil - 8/10, has been taking care of Kalim and others his entire life (rip), responsible and trustworthy

Vil - 8/10, not as experienced as the others but is mature and intelligent, can figure things out and is trustworthy

Rook - 8/10, more domestic than you would think, I bc he took care of his younger siblings and is very caring/attentive when he needs to be

Silver - 7/10, pretty much same as Vil but may fall asleep on the job

Happy to help but is not experienced in childcare. Slightly awkward and will need help initially but learns quickly.

Riddle - 7/10, inexperienced but responsible and good at managing others

Deuce - 6/10, A for effort but he needs a little help learning the right things to do

Jack - 7/10, also inexperienced but a dedicated learner, very attentive and protective

Azul - 7/10, same as Riddle, takes things seriously and will do proper research

Epel - 6/10, he might be awkward if he’s still going through his phase of trying to seem tough, but will soften up and take things seriously

Malleus - 7/10, definitely has zero experience but would take the task of babysitting so seriously, very happy he’s been entrusted with this responsibility but needs guidance

Good at entertaining children, not good at taking proper care of them.

Cater - 5/10, spends time taking selfies with the child and then will get bored

Floyd - 3/10, ngl this is definitely a safety concern, he does not know anything about babies but he will play peekaboo with them until he gets bored

Kalim - 5/10, has many younger siblings that he loves but probably only ever played with them since they have servants to properly care for them, can be innocently careless so it’s best you keep an eye on them

Ace - 4/10, can be around older kids but gets bored around babies, doesn’t really care for them

Does not get along with children.

Leona - 2/10, self-explanatory

Sebek - 1/10, bro is the youngest in his family with a worse temper than any child, please do not ask him to watch any kids, unironically beefs with 12 year olds on the internet

taking the initative - how does having a daemon work for Hunter? given, you know, everything about grimwalkers. I'm also super interested in how you worked out the Azura series!

he he :333 i'll put this under a cut since hunters Deal is a pretty big thing we unpack over the course of the daemon au so. technically spoilers!! if you wanna wait a year til it comes out or somehow came across this while i was posting the fic.

anyways! so hunter is a freak of nature (affectionate) even by grimwalker standards njgdfg. but before we get into that i gotta do some ~term definition~ cause both daemons and palismen exist in this world and its important you know what i mean when i use em!

daemon: we know them. we love them. what you think of when i say 'daemon au.' creatures made entirely of dust that are the other half of a human, who can change shape up until they settle (around 12 years of age), and have a set range based on their form of how far they can go from said human, with most being between like 10-20 feet. daemons are born when their human is like, 6 months to a year old, slowly forming until they've got enough dust to take their first form.

palismen: the other half of a witch. palismen are born with their witches at palistrom trees--pregnant witches seek out a palistrom tree thats calling to baby and give birth there, and when the witch-baby is born a part of the palistrom tree will break off (usually leaves, twigs, branches, in the past berries + flowers) and become their palisman. palismen can change form up until a witch settles (typically upon joining a coven at 18), and until they settle have no set range--witch and palisman can go as far from each other as they want.

anyways with THAT out of the way, for all intents and purposes golden guards, seeing as they're all grimwalkers of a human, work on the human-side of things. but hunter and fidelity/flapjack (will be using flapjack for clarity's sake going forwards) use witch and palisman respectively since that's the world they grew up in lol.

all living creatures have some sort of connection to dust. for humans this is daemons, for witch palismen, demons have a variety of ways (some have flowers, some are connected to specific places, ex. hooty to the owl house, etc). so, every single living thing is in some way connected to the world around it. this includes hunter!

so, for most of the grimwalkers, they were made of caleb's bones. so, they were pulled out of the ground, and when they were their daemons formed--since grimwalkers Grow underground for a while their dust has the time to build up into their daemon. but see. belos might have made a little mistake in how often he murdered grimwalkers cause come hunter's time and he might. just a little bit. be out of caleb bones. whoopsie! but, you know, he does have some of caleb's daemon's dust, left. that's the same as bone, right?

and thus we get hunter and flapjack. flapjack is the grimwalker--her ortet was the dust of fidelity, caleb's daemon, and so she's dragged out of the ground as a wolfhound, the same form fidelity settled as. flapjack is entirely flesh and blood and has no ability to change. she is, technically, the witch.

but hunter.

needless to say belos was not expecting a weird little witch-baby, that's for certain!

now of course flapjack and hunter do Not know any of this at the start lol, and there's a bit more to it than this (hunter doesnt know he can change form! hmm, i wonder why....), but i need to keep some of my secrets.

as for azura! its not entirely worked out yet (i did just come up with the idea like, a few days ago so ive got some stuff to add in the edits), but the general idea of it is that when luz's dad was dying he very much left her the azura books on purpose. luz and mari have always very obviously stood out from their peers (its the neruodivergency) and as they approached 12 and still weren't settled, and as mari more often than not spoke for luz which is a HUGE no-no (daemons, after all, arent supposed to speak....)

yeah so camila + manny were terrified for her lol. thus azura! in my mind the azura books are very interested in taking the term witch--in my human world sort of the common word for what is medicalized as 'bond disorders,' ie, someone who doesnt settle by 12-13, someone who doesnt WANT to settle, a daemon who speaks when they should have grown out of this--and saying, hey, guys, uh, what the fuck?

so, azura is a witch! i imagine like witches of legend azura (in my eyes being the daemon's name, not that i know what the human would be named lol) wouldn't have a range, and would be various bird-forms. it explores ideas of teenagers not settling, and struggling to figure out who you are when 'who you are' is a thing you do not get to change, and people who do settle do so as daemon-forms that are ALSO medicalized (think, fish. which is the daemon luz's dad had! not sure what fish yet, but he had a fish :D)

to my movie morro enjoyers yall got me curious so i did some research and tweaked the laws of youth criminal justice cause it's a movie about legos

WHOOH i expanded on this a lot and its not even all the options

so morros role in the gang is he like collects intel n shit, scouts and/or recruits new members, makes plans and gives orders from the boss (preeminent) so hes sorta like the preeminents ambassador. general?? right hand man?? number 2?? something. occasionally he participates in very low key crimes where his face and identity could be hidden. never does anything big and flashy, so hes the least likely to get caught and thats one of the reasons hes so high up. the boss usually has a business to cover for the gang so the preeminent has a bar or a nightclub or something where they allow you to cover your face and morro works there to be like,, closer so its easy to recieve orders/info or something yk. when asked he says hes small for his age with a VERY obvious undertone and they leave it at that, cause so what if the nightclub is a little sketchy, goddamn this kid whips out drinks faster than anyone. hes very in the shadows undercover and thats why they couldnt catch him/had no evidence he was high ranking (i need a gang name help should it just be cursed realm?? cursed spirits maybe)

IF we want morro to just have general shenanigans with the ninja then hes on parole. if you dont know what parole is basically they let you out after 2/3rds of your sentence to let you integrate back into society or something, but youre still under supervision. so the timeline is morro starts his criminal activity at 14, gets caught and arrested at 16 and then gets released at 17. if youre worried about the 3 years in the above post trust me the logic checks out

they KNOW morros the criminal mastermind running shit behind the gang, they just cant find any way to prove it so he only gets sentenced for gang affiliation. he spends around a year or so in juvie and they let him out for the next 6 months

they let morro stay with wu cause hes like,, the head of the fucking ninja team he can handle himself, BUT he has to have security guards accompany him to school to keep an eye on him/watch for signs of him actually being highly involved in the gang. lloyd is real fucking embarrassed about it cause morro loves to come up and bother him, and it attracts even more unwanted whisperings about garmadons cousin who went to JAIL. morro bothers him even more because of it

no one knew morro was lloyds cousin, so when the ninja show up to the garage one day and find the fucking ex convict just chilling on lloyds mech theyre like ??? WHY ARE YOU HERE. they knew lloyd had a questionable cousin when he mentioned he got out of jail, but they didnt know it was HIM. like i said, morros infamous for being a mastermind escape artist (i kinda want to give him an alias so drop suggestions 👀👀) even better wu walks in and he goes "ah i see youve met my son morro!!" and the ninja go batshit cause wu had mentioned visiting his son in jail which already rose so many unanswered questions back then, but not THIS GUY

im debating on whether lloyd knows morro was a criminal during the three years or not. cause if he didnt know it would be really funny when morro/the gangs arrest was on the news and lloyd goes 👁👁 THATS MY FUCKING COUSIN. but if he DID know he sees him on the news and hes like "lmao get fucked wait till i tell uncle wu" (again,, drop the opinions)

wu knows he was a criminal pretty early on and absolutely does not give a shit cause movie wu is bat ass crazy and jaded to fuck. he sees morro on the news in his like gang getup and goes oh look at him go 😄😄 i hope he remembers to tuck in his feet like i taught him to 😄😄😄 morro was terrified when he got caught by wu, but all he did was lay out two hard rules. 1. no killing innocents and 2. no drugs. morros like ?? thats it?? and wu just sort of stares at him and goes ‘‘i believe so. now don’t you have somewhere to be?’’ and morros like yeah.. i got a bank to rob at 2. JUST TO BE CLEAR morro has NEVER ONCE KILLED ANYBODY just to be safe, even though wu was all for dismantling the dictatorship or patriarchy and whatnot. when morro gets arrested wu visits him just to laugh at him (im copy pasting most of this from tags from this post lmao)

wu absolutely makes morro train the ninja cause lets be honest theyre dogshit without the mechs. morros idea of training is jumping them all around the city at random times. he bullies them so hard jay is on the verge of tears every day

opens up a powerpoint presentation. ok ko is in my opinion overall a very good show. its incredibly funny, charming, and...sometimes well written story wise. unfortunately it has a very very big failing in a very very big plot point

clicks to the next slide. my beautiful son tko.

tko himself is fine. i have no issues with his CHARACTER. i take issue with how his character is treated. tko is, by himself, a child with anger issues, he reacts very poorly to being agitated but like...

he has to be agitated first.

there is not a single example before season 3 where tko like, wrecks shit or whatever without being provoked, in his debut for example, hes just doing his job (albeit begrudgingly) before enid and rad provoke him, and he starts fighting them

however, the show always seems to act like tko is in the wrong, treats him like a villain despite his mostly heroic acts, is he PERFECT? no!! hes a fucking kid with anger issues!! he was locked inside a mind cage!! he doesnt know how to deal with things so he hits them!!! he just. happens to be able to hit things very very hard and with lightning bolts.

another example is the season 1 finale, youre in control. in yic tko. literally doesnt do anything wrong. like im not joking.

in yic tko gets let out to fight boxman jr and like...he does that. he throws boxman jr back to boxmore and then chases him over to boxmore. he does not attack a single hero in this episode. he does not do any damage to the plaza. the worst thing he does in this episode is put ko back in the cage. yet its STILL treated like hes doing something wrong???

another thing about tko. tko wants freedom. he says this outright. being locked inside a literal cage will do that to ya. i want to make sure real quick that we're on the same page here that locking a 6-11 year old boy inside a cage is bad no matter how badly he is at managing his anger issues right. right. okay. tko deserved to be uncaged. and he WAS. except...

when he gets out of the cage in youre in control. thats great and all but...his next appearance, tkos house, hes still upset. he still wants his freedom. its just that instead of being locked in a cage hes locked in a (pretty cool honestly) house. it doesnt matter how nice you make an enclosure, sometimes itll just never work for the animal. and thats what tko is like, he wants out, he wants control over the body, which like. is fucking fair?? im someone who REALLY understands the importance of going outside often, tko really deserves to be allowed outside their headspace. its good for you.

but tko DOESNT. GET THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he shows up. LITERALLY TWICE in season 2 (thats 40 episodes!) and NEITHER of his appearances (tkos house, dark plaza) does he even get to use the body on his own!! its always fused as pko!! he doesnt get a turn!!

and then when season three starts. uh. glances at tko rules. Yeah. The Subconscious. he gets trapped in a dark empty void for [checks notes] about two weeks. minimum.

what im getting at here. is that tko never really left that cage.

okay. im gonna touch on one more tko thing. the FUCKING finale. [furious]

quick recap, in the finale ko and tko have a plot twist moment where "oh hey! ko and tko are the same person actually! and now theyve accepted eachother as the same person and can be happy! hooray!" except like. mko (finale fusion) is just ko

like seriously hes JUST ko. his design? leaning towards kos features. his personality? LITERALLY just ko theres not a hint of tko there. its not the two of them "accepting eachother" or whatever its. its the writers killing off tko.

as well as like. a guy i know pointed this out and i cannot fucking get over it. if they were just going to ""fuse the two"" in the end then WHY. in GODS NAME. is tkos LITERAL FIRST LINE OF DIALOGUE.

hes so fucking INSISTENT on correcting people when they call him ko (which is ANOTHER gripe i have with this show. NOBODY calls him his name) and they just. oh yeah hes actually ko lol. LIKE DUDE. THIS ISNT HOW YOU WRITING.

i didnt even mention the issues regarding system stereotypes. i didnt even mention dark plaza since i was focusing on tko. i didnt even. theres so much. i need to stop. now. goodbye.

As is my tradition after finishing a locked tomb book, I will now post a list of the various things I did not understand, which made me say out loud “what the fuck”, in the hopes that someone, somewhere, understands what the fuck is going on and can explain to me.

1. What the fuck is up with Gideon and Harrow? Like, my understanding is Nona is Nav's soul in harrows body, with amnesia. But clearly not, since Nav is maybe in her own body? Where the fuck is Harrows soul? Its not in gideons body. She cant be a lyctor, so why does she have super healing? Why was Nona dying? What the fuck is going on?

AFTER READING: Okay so Nona is just Harrow with even more amnesia? Why was Nona dying? What the fuck is going on?

Hold on, wait a second. That might be the saddest thing in any of these books. Like, ever. And thats...a competition. THIS IS A WHAT HARROW WOULD BE IF SHED BEEN RAISED WITH LOVE AND NOT GUILT. 😭

2. What the fuck was up with Cam and Pal pre-Paul? They say theyre not lyctors, and the RB doesnt affect them, but they can heal and stuff, so its not just a normal possession (especially with the eyes).

3. How did G1deon and Pyrra end up sharing a body in the first place? Wht didnt they ever communicate in the 10,000 years? Did they do the same weird half lyctorhood that Cam and Pal have done?

4. How did Jod Get necromancy? In the dreams it just sorta appears after he spends time around corpses. Is he editing the story? Or is there no explanation for how magic suddenly became possible? Like. It seems like getting Jods backstory was gonna explain how necromancy actually works, what its source is, why no one had ever discovered it before. What the fuck is the River?

5. What Are the dreams. Like, is it just Harrow having hallucinations in the River? But then they wouldnt be accurate. Is Harrow going through Alecto/the bodys memories? Its pretty clear that sometimes Jod is talking about/to Alecto in the dreams, but he says Harrows name. Is this just the name replacing, and in actuality hes saying Alecto? Or was Jod also talking to Harrow?

6. What the fuck Was Alecto, why would everyone care about her. Is she the Earths RB, and so when hes talking about people not caring about her, they mean the earth? But that doesnt make sense, since the cryo project was to save people, not the planet.

AFTER READING: Okay so I think i was right here. But can someone please explain how John went full Jod? He killed everyone on the Earth, and used the thanergy to force the Earths soul into a body, yea? Then did some lyctor-esque bullshit, so he could use her soul as his fuel, and uses that to...do what exactly, I couldnt tell? Eat the thalergy from the sun and the other planets? Then rezed everyone on the planet, and gave them amnesia so they woulsnt remember he killed them? Also, does this mean jods lyctorhood is bases on thalergy rather than thanergy? Also, still unclear on how the cryo project was gonna save her in the first place? And how is the resurrection of the planets and sun still linked to Jod? ALSO, i think he lied at some point to Harrow, yea? Like. The reason he refused to resurrect some people isnt becuz of a great cost. He cant rez anyone if they died more than a moment ago, yea?

7. Why is 7 just...chilling in space? Is it because none of the lyctors on planet are acrual lyctors, so it cant find them, but irs attracted to them still? Why not just eat the whole planet? Dont RBs do that all the time?

8. Why can Nona understand the RB, and how was it possessing Judith? Im assuming Nonas big scream had to do with that. But like. How? What the fuck was 7 talking about?

9. How did they get Nona away from Jod? How did they lose Gideons body?

10. Why did Pyrra immedietly start cooperating with BoE? Hang on, how did She get away from Jod. Im assuming this will also answer the previous question.

11. What are Jods actual plans? Like, is he legit just trying to rule all of space? Seems like he should have an actual motivation for everything hes been doing. Maybe to save Alecto? But like. How? Also the fact that hes been so hands off and now hes "fragile". Like. This really does not come off as Either "generic tyrant" Or "guy with a myriad long master plan". What the fuck is going on?

AFTER READING: Is jods entire conquest literally just revenge because the source of those people are the rich ones that got away? Is he really That much of a whining baby? Has his entire myriad of life and manipulation of his loved ones been "avoid dying to the RBs, and take "revenge""?

AFTER READING MORE: Okay, follow up: what was jods actual plan (with the tomb)? Has he really become suicidal becuz of all his og friends are dead? If so, why the fuck did he kill Mercy? Why did he get Augustine killed? If hes actually this fucked up over it, it seems like hed have rather forgiven them. But also I dont think Ianthe misread the situation. So is he faking it? Is he trying to get Gideon/Kiriona killed? Why? What the fuck is going on?

12. What the fuck is wrong with Gideon/Kiriona? Like shes acting callous and a bit cruel and just...not Gideon. But she also seems to have similar goals as what Id expect. She really wants to find Harrow, she refuses to ever be constrained. Shes...vaguely helpful towards Coronabeth and Cam/Pal. She even makes the occasional funny dumb comment, and acts mostly like Gideon om the 9th But like. She seems...off. Shockingly, the Ianthe friendship tracks.

AFTER READING: Was that just Gideon after months of depression and repression? That still doesn’t seem right. I feel like Gideon wouldn’t break that fast, after 18 years under Crux. Especially like “the reverend daughter has no living cavalier” Gideon would Die before renouncing her cavaliership to Harrow. In fact, she did.

13. Are the numbers/chapters & verses of Jods backstory meaningful somehow?

14. Okay, so unless Ive missed count, theres like...4 (or maybe 5?) different types of lyctorhood? Theres the og method that kills the Cav. Theres Jods method where both survive in their own bodies. Theres G1deons method that haa both survive in the necros body (is this what Pal ans Cam were doing initially?). Theres the new method that combines both into a single person. And then maybe theres whatever the fuck is going on with Kiriona (unclear if thats lyctorhood or what). Also theres whatever Harrow did to leave Gideon in her body in HtN, which might have just been a shittier version of whatever G1deon did. Did I miss anything, get anything wrong? Also, what the fuck?

15. What do we know about what happened with Jod and Alecto after the resurrection? Like. They clearly had some sort of romantic relationship, but also she went murderbeast and he had to lock her up? Whyd she go murderbeast? And whyd he lock her up? It seems pretty clear Jod was never particularly stable. I mean, he did seem pretty set on saving humanity, but even still, seems very weird that hed agree to lock her up, given how much he loved her.

16. Okay, so Jod is insanely vindictive and fairly controlling. His paranoia explains why he didnt give the og lyctors perfect lyctorhood. But he seems to have genuinely loved them, and didnt seem cruel. Why not, like, one of the other types, that didnt require awful trauma? And why the other dickish stuff, like leaving Cytherea's illness and shit?

17. Huh, so pretty sure we got confirmation Harrow has always beeen schizophrenic, which is super cool. Now I wanna go back and read GtN and see if this changes my reading at all.

18. What else did I miss/not catch? Im sure there was a bunch of clues and info that I wasn’t smart enough to pick up on.

Right this is gonna be so long so hang on tight:

First to preface, I strongly headcanon hodgins as trans ftm and audhd which definately influences my love for him.

To begin, when I was younger (6+) i began to watch bones and I saw myself, an undiagnosed audhd person, in hodgins so much- and not only was i full ass in love with him. I also felt understood and seen, for the first time i saw a realistic character that I could relate to in so many ways. Also he was one of my first gender envies for real!!!

Hodgins fully encompasses the autistic rage that I for sure experience and I think thats so real of him. The therapy scene between him and sweets changed everything for me, and i stopped feeling guilty for feeling so sad and angry all the time and I started to view my anger differently and instead of surpressing it i found healthier coping mechanisms.

On the subject of Hodgins so totally being autistic, I just fully think that he expresses so many of the traits I do. Most of these traits are from headcanons ive seen but then i see them again expressed in the show and it makes me happier than anyone could ever imagine. He so clearly has special interests of conspiracies and of course his entomology/botany and I also have super strong special interests that I am known for a lot! I think when you see a character on screen for the first time that you dont feel like you change anything about yourself to be more like them, and you are just them it is special! So many times have I hyperfixated on a character and changed my whole personality to be like them, but he is actually just like me!

He encourages me to try and be comfortable in myself and to openly talk about my special interests because they are part of me so I should be able to express myself! This lesson is helping me heal and become so much happier, but also helps me feel comfortable with not being okay sometimes- which is even more important.

STUPID HEADCANONS!!!

- his first hyperfixation was dinosaurs (me fr) and he collected the mini plastic figurines.

-huge fidgeter and never stops stimming, he legit is never is still: its seen in canon lots! (that one episode where he does push ups when he is stressed for example). He gets that whole body thing where hes gotta move!!!

-hates oliver and pickles (angela loves them both and eats his from his burgers)

-folkpunk enjoyer as a teenager, his style would have been the coolest as a way of rebelling against his parents.

- the big light is the devil. his house has lots of lamps and small lights to avoid using the big light.

-during school/uni he carried around a sketchbook that he sketched bugs in during class when he got bored, he never skipped any years or anything as he performed only just above averagely. This was because he never got the support he needed during school so he wasnt able to meet his full potential until he found his passion for entomology. This frustrated teachers so he didnt always have the best relationship with them, but he had a few that he wasnt close with, but he found comfort and support in them as he struggled through his teenage years.

Nick had asked if I want to come over earlier in the day which I said yes to of course, right now and Nate were living together in a place in Stockton I spend a pretty big time over there but now I felt like not just me anymore. Nick always asked Kate to come over even when it was just gonna be us it was always 'oh Kates gonna come to hope you don't mind' I did mind alot but what I couldn't tell him that. Me and her we're just his friends right? I've known Nick since we were twenty, I was working at a sports store when we met, I always thought it would be more then friends I'd for it, I thought he felt the same but since this Kate came around the last 6 months i feel like that was never on his mind.

Again tonight it was just gonna be Me, him and Nate but when I walked oin the door Nick was sitting next to Kate on the couch playing a UFC game on the TV, Nate smoking a joint next to them "hey Y/n!" Nate said "hi!" I smiled "hey!" Nick said keeping his eye's on the TV. I sat next to Nate "give" I said putting my hand out for the joint, he smiled handing it to me "thank you!" I took it and took a hit. "Y/n you want to play?" Nick asked "yeah! Nate you want to help me?" I asked smiling, Nate shrugged and nodded I leaned back on Nate his arm going around me my shoulders. "shit we're out of beer" Nick said from the kitchen "Me and Nate can go get some more!" I said looking up at Nate "um oh yeah okay" "come on" I stood up putting my hand out for Nate he grabbed and I pulled him up "need anything else?" I asked by the door "you should get some snacks we'll have like a movie night!" Kate said "oh yeah! pick a movie horror!" I replied she smiled and nodded. I liked her was I upset that my crush of eight years might like her more then me? Yeah, yes very much!

"What's wrong?" Nate said pushing the cart behind me while we went down the chip aisle "nothing" I shrugged putting a bag in the cart "Y//nn" "what?" "i'm not dumb" "oh yeah okay Mr. CTE" I said sarcastically "I have a lisp! it's not CTE!" "I laughed " I know" "is it Kate?" "Nick brings her around a lot" "and why does that bother you?" he tiled his head with a smirk, I sighed then bit my lip while grabbing popcorn "you like him." he wasn't asking he knew "...no" "liar" he chuckled "yes I like him ...a lot....and you're gonna help me" "how is that?" "we're gonna make him jellyy" I said grabbing the beer he gave me a look "why do you think I picked a horror? 'oh my god Nate!' then grab you're arm boom thats how you make a guy jelly" he huffed "I don't agree with this method" "please!" "you're like my little sister though.." "i'm older than you...and if you help me I could really end up being you're sister" he rolled his eyes "fine" I smiled "yess! thank you!"

"we got a lot!" I smiled setting the bags on the coffee table, I held up a candy mine and Nicks favorite "oh my god that's our favorite!" Kate said taking it from me Nick smiled at her. I sat next to Nate, he pulled a blanket over us and wrapped his arm around me my head on his chest. When I looked over to Nick and Kate she as almost in his lap and he kissed her head. It wasn't right we weren't together but I want to cry, it's dumb but I do. My bottom lip shook and I pushed more into Nate, he pulled me close "it's okay don't worry about it" he whispered that pushed me over my edge. it wasn't his fault, it's nobodys fault Nick isn't my boyfriend and if him and Kate were together it wouldn't matter about my stupid crush. "i'll be right back" I told him with a small smile.

I wiped my eyes and sniffled then took a deep breath before opening to the bathroom to Nick, "hey" he said softly "hey sorry" I moved out of his way "it's okay, are you okay?' He asked "yeah i'm fine" I smiled "k" he way moving into the bathroom. I came back into the living room and sat back down next to Nate, he pulled me into him then tiled my chin up to him and wiped my cheek I smiled.

After the movie Kate popped up "i'm gonna head home, it's getting pretty late" "okay see you!" Nick said smiling "bye" I said and Nate waved. "i'm gonna go get my bong" Nate said standing up then starting down the hall, "whats going on with you?" Nick asked me I looked over to him "what do you mean?" "I mean you're pretty cuddled up with Nate and then i'm pretty sure you we're crying in the bathroom" I stayed quite "are you with Nate?" He added "no" I played with my fingers "you sure?" "if cuddling on the couch is us 'being together' then what are you and Kate?" "we're just friends..." "okay than" I shrugged and he gave me a taken a back look "what do you have against her?" "Nothing Nick!" "then why are you so weird when she's around!" "so i'm weird now?" I pointed to myself "yeah you've been pretty weird lately" "okay well i'm so sorry for my weird presents" I stood up grabbing my bag he scoffed and shook his head "whatever Y/n" he leaned back into the couch opening another beer.

"Bye Nate!" I yelled he came running out of his room "you're leaving?" "yeah" he looked over to Nick who didn't seem to care "no sit down" Nate said "no it's fine " "Y/n sit down" I looked to him I sighed and sat down, Nate turned the TV off "hey!" Nick said "you two really need to talk" "Nate thanks for trying to help, I just want to go home" "no stop and talk now!" he said then walked out of the room. "do you like Kate?" I asked "yeah! of course that's why shes over so much" I nodded "do you like as in dating?" "No! I thought you'd like to have another girl around...but now that i'm thinking about maybe I will since you're almost in my brothers pants" "sometimes you can be such an ass" I ran my fingers through my hair, "am I not right?!" "no you're right! I was using you're brother to get you upset...I like you a lot for a while, I thought you felt the same but we haven't hung out just me and you in like half a year. but you have with her you sit next to her," I said sighing I looked up at Nick and he didn't say anything just looked at her, "i'm sorry..she's you're friend. everything I said is pretty selfish...i'm really gonna go this time" I huffed then stood up and walked out the front door.

I already regret everything I have done in the last hour, I shouldn't have told Nick I should have given him a minute to say something and not stormed out. As I went to open the door I felt hands on the back of my shoulders, I gasped and turned "sorry" Nick whispered and ran his hands up and down my arms. He wrapped his arms around my waist dug his head into my neck " I love you" he added and I wrapped my arms tightly around his neck.

so when it comes to dag's lovers i still am working on a lot of their personalities and everything but i can give you a kinda basic rundown of whats going on

tl;dr in order to have a chance at becoming the celestial ruler, dag & 7 other hopefuls (chosen by the previous celestial ruler's lovers when they pass on) are chosen young in order to be trained, and then go on a worldwide journey to each of the 8 spheres (or realms. or gates. however you would like to call them lol) to marry a member of each realm's royal family. they have to basically choose the right one (soul destiny some shit lol) in order to ascend to the throne :)

some hopefuls aren't in it for the romance they're just tryna get it over with; or they marry platonically (but thats not this story im obsessed with romance lol). dag however, really loves all of his partners and seeks to genuinely get to know and fall in love with them and whatnot

so without further ado, these are the partners & what i know about them so far:

*also as a side note everyone in this story including dag are nb. but i do list their pronouns and you can call them anything in that realm lol

LILLIABET (she/they/he) — lillia is dag's childhood friend and is the youngest child of the dattenmaow royal family. i just first of all, love her aesthetic she wears red most of the time and has long braids. favorite part of her outfits/design is her big heavy beaded jewelry, its a bit of a staple in dattenmaow! the two of them have been in love for a long time; dag was taken to the celestial city for training when he was 6 years old, and for the 27 years he was away for training (yeah its that long lol) the two of them kept in contact through letters! lillia is excitable and can be a little childish, but she cares deeply for people. they're also a very skilled fighter and love exploring and adventuring. she feels like she's not taken seriously by her family because she is the baby, and appreciates how dag has always seen her as his equal! she also saved her first kiss for him lmao. it's a well known fact in dattenmaow that if dag hadn't been chosen to be a hopeful, he and lillia would've been wed regardless lol (especially bc she and dag's parents were close).

IZUL (they/them) — i don't know much about izul yet tbh. they're the fifth child of the mukhiru royal family. i definitely know that they tend to go most places barefoot (i think it might be a cultural thing for them) and they have a lot of anklets. their skin is sooo pretty and dark and they have short kinky curly hair. i think they're a bit more of a reserved person; they tend to laugh behind their hand a lot and i think they're also more reserved with affection. dag definitely appeals to them as a friend first.

VIGUSTAV (he/him) — VIGUSTAV MY BELOVED i gotta calm down. he’s the third child of the vukter royal family! something to know about dag is that he's actually pretty tall, but 2 of his lovers are taller than him: vigustav and almine. viggo is an absolute sweetheart, which is actually looked down upon in his culture. i don't know much about everything that their culture does yet, however i do know in order to become accepted as a true warrior or some shit, they have to complete a SUPREMELY dangerous trial that its seen as more of an honor if you die in than to come back and fail and... unfortunately vig failed. he lost his arm in the trail actually and while he's not in the extremely dark place that he was before he met dag, he definitely was suicidal back when it happened. he's matured a lot as a person since then but that doesn't necessarily mean people's treatment of him is any better, and tbh, he really struggles to see himself as a worthy partner for anyone, esp when he meets dag. they have such a sweet romance like i'm laying on the FLOOR. dag helps vig feel attractive and desirable and worthy of affection and vig absolutely spoils tf out of his wife. there's this really sweet scene that i see happening during a courtship ceremony when viggo and dag dance together and bc of his disability most of the time vig sits out dances or has to be "led", dag lets him lead the dance and boy it restores his confidence a lot. if you can't tell absolutely adore this big bear of a man he has my whole heart.

MUU (they/he/she) — muu is another newly figured out addition. i know my initial description of them was “sports anime protag” bc i just see them being very excitable, hardworking and down to earth. they’re also SUPER dreamy. head in the clouds all the time and very giggly. they come back down to earth when things need to be taken care of but they’re very laid back and love relaxing and driving boats throughout the marsh. they definitely started off being instantly attracted to dag but also admired him greatly for his strength and chill personality.

ZHUJEN (she/her) — WIFE. WIFEY. BELOVED. she’s the eldest child of the guanai royal family though she is still younger than dag by three years. in guanai culture there is a lot of emphasis on the care of elders to youngers and the ruler of guanai is essentially seen as a parent to all of the people. since zhujen (before she weds dag p much) is seen as the next in line to be mother (nb) to all the people of the nation, she’s constantly worn thin by people constantly needing her. between being trained as a ruler, to her peoples calls for her aid, to her siblings relying on her… it’s a wonder that she’s able to handle it all. dag is the first person to really be able to emphasize with the stress of having so much responsibility rest on her shoulders at all times and the two bond over it quickly. she has a fairy-like vibe to her; guanai is a land of thick dense forests with houses built in trees, so to be fair most of the people of guanai feel like that. however zhujen is remarkably patient and loving and kind. acts of service are a huge love language for her both giving and receiving and she promises dag that once he becomes celestial ruler she’ll make sure he never works himself too hard 🥲

ALMINE (she/he) — the fourth child of the royal family, almine is gruff and has a calm command of the room around her. she can be intimidating with her tall frame and large build, and fierce disposition but it’s because she’s a guardian and protector to her core. the only thing she loves more than silence and nature is horses and she is the leader of the zali mountain militia. she’s also the oldest of dag’s lovers and the wisest. it’s definitely a situation where she swept dag off of his feet when she realized he would respect her boundaries and had a similar love for the earth like she did. (i also based a lot of her personality off of geralt of rivia from the witcher down to the scruffy stubble/beard and light hair 😭)

RHOHANEN (they/he) — sixth child of the aeronwen royal family and an ACTUAL brat he had genuinely no desire to be wed off to anyone until dag sort of convinced him otherwise. the deal is that aeronwen, like it’s icy peaks, is a land devoid of integrity like some of the other spheres value it’s intensely cutthroat and ruthless. being one of the younger members of the family, rho has constantly had his ability and existence questioned and constantly has to duke it out with his siblings in order to be noticed and respected. he’s not used to love, essentially. in fact the only reason anything sparks between he and dag is bc rho is a horny lil bastard who says “it’ll be sex and nothing more” however guess who catches feelings 🤪 dag’s probably the most assertive with rho than with any of the other lovers bc rho is someone who refuses to see things even if it’s right in front of his face. dag teaches him how to allow himself to be vulnerable and to trust those who have truly earned it while rho helps dag with his decisiveness bc up until they met, dag has been very much able to use his subtly and humbled nature to solve problems and get by. however it mirrors how, even as the celestial ruler when tough times arise, you have to be cutthroat occasionally for the good of the world :)

AENLIN (he/they/she) — finally, aenlin, the most interesting circumstance of all dag’s lovers. see, the thing about aenlin is that not only is he the second child of the lesedi royal family but he’s also a hopeful himself. all throughout the journey that he and dag have taken through each of the realms (1) aenlin hasn’t courted any lovers or been wed and (2) he’s viewed dag as a sort of rival. this is simply bc since he’s in a unique position of being both a hopeful and a member of the royal court, he essentially was forfeited from birth from the ability to be the celestial ruler (he can’t marry one of his siblings lol). but he also can’t become a ruler of lesedi bc he’s second in line. it’s made him very bitter, and he’s known that dag is the most likely candidate to become the celestial ruler for a decade at least, however they didn’t met officially until the journey of the hopefuls began. he wanted to hate dag and he does his best to. in the times they interact even when dag is kind or neutral towards him, aenlin has been very gruff and almost rude in a way. but all is revealed when they reach lesedi and he’s “welcomed” by his family. dag has no ill will towards aenlin and slowly gets to the bottom of his feelings and helps him reconcile that just because he isn’t “the best” doesn’t mean he isn’t loved and that he doesn’t have purpose. so, as much as aen didn’t want to lol he does end up falling for and marrying dag :) their love story technically takes the longest bc i’d be sprinkling it in all throughout dag’s time traveling and with the other lovers haha.

the homestuck reread, pt 3

im deep into act 6 rn, and i have a feeling this is a good time for another recap. for anyone new here, i first started reading homestuck in 2014 as an archival and then serial reader, and i am now rereading it again through the unofficial collection for the first time, along w bonus content i didnt engage w the first time. ive already recapped acts 1-5 in their entirety. i also posted a separate recap chain of the formspring.

in this post, i will be recapping up to but not including a6a4. if youre looking for my thoughts on the dancestors in a6i3, thatll be its own post. assuming anyone reading this has already read my previous recaps, and anyone not reading this would enjoy not having their dash dominated by this post, the recap will be under the cut.

before we get started, there were a couple of albums released during act 5 act 2 that i hadnt listened to yet at the time of my recap, so heres those rq:

Act 5 Act 2 Albums

Prospit & Derse: i finished it right after making that post pretty much TuT and what i said in my previous recap is pretty accurate! derse dreamers remains my favorite. i dont really have anything to add, i think i covered it pretty well before.

Vol 1-4: it does not in fact have new stuff. this is just volumes 1-4, which i already recapped in my initial post. i did look tho :')

Vol 8: this is another pretty generic catchall album, as the numbered ones tend to be! however, i remember thinking as i was listening to it that the songs at the beginning were just really beautiful pieces, really stunning to listen to. there are also a lot of serious BANGERS in this album. ive had davesprite and arcade thunder on my playlist for ages, but it also has THE classic, the acapella midnight crew cover. i dont think all of them are hits, but most of them definitely are.

anyway, with that covered, lets get into act 6.

Act 6 Act 1

this is the act that introduces us to the post-scratch earth for the first time, starting with jake and jane as introductory characters, and hinting at roxy and dirk. its extremely short, and almost nothing fucking happens tbh. during this time, hussie is starting to use tumblr, and makes the infamous olive garden saga posts.

The Characters

upon introduction, jane believes fully in the betty crocker empire, and has like zero patience for her friends telling her it sucks. shes stubborn, headstrong, and very excited for her turn on the crocker throne. shes shown to be using exclusively bc products, which have mind altering powers that have been implied to have been subtly influencing her her whole life. she mentions that she used to have an antagonistic relationship with her dad, not unlike the one john describes with his dad when talking to his friends, but says that in the past three years theyve really ironed it out and worked through their misunderstandings. they now have a good relationship, albeit with some of the usual teenage/fatherly tension thats only natural.

jake introduces himself loudly proclaiming his love of adventure, fisticuffs, and movies. he talks a lot about admiring his grandma and her scientific genius, but doesnt feel that he measures up to her at all (he goes on to downplay his own understanding of science a lot, in the next several acts). however, we see very quickly that jake avoids going outside, is scared of the monsters on his island, and fails to beat brobot even when brobot is set on novice mode, so a lot of that stuff probably isnt true. another big thing that were introduced to very quickly is jakes firm and willing belief system. he trusts his friends wholeheartedly and loudly, in perfect opposition to jane, whos skeptical of everything, and he proclaims his belief to the point where it feels almost like hussie is grinding his page of hopeness into your face.

The Tumblr

ill talk about the tumblr as a whole more later, i think, so for rn ill just stick to the olive garden debacle. i actually did read this, way back in the day, and i remember thinking then that it was hilarious. it still is. unlike the formsprings, which i warn you to never touch w a ten foot pole, i HIGHLY recommend giving at least the olive garden saga a read if youre a hardcore fan. 10/10.

Act 6 Intermission 1

theres an emerging theme early in act 6 where the sub acts center around the alpha kid session, and the intermissions center around like.... everything else, mostly. its hussies way of checking in on dreambubble shenanigans, the meteor, and the ship. theyre just sort of updates, rather than full, lengthy expositions. the first intermission is super short and almost 100% just about the start of the meteor and ship trips, with the kids meeting up with the trolls, aradias corpse party that couldve been, and john slamming karkat in the face with a bucket. im sure we all remember it well. also, bec noir and pm are chasing each other around. there is pretty much nothing to say about this intermission.

Act 6 Act 2

here we return to the alpha session, where roxy and dirk are finally introduced. there are some shenanigans happening with the kids dreamselves, but at the end of the act, jane is finally the first kid to enter the medium. acts are still pretty short. during this time, the album song of skaia was published, and hussie announced a contest for the next album, which ill talk about later.

The Characters:

every session has a different version of jack. the trolls had spades slick, who became exiled and created a city where the midnight crew and the felt reside (keeping in mind that doc scratch is also the trolls first guardian). the beta kids had bec noir, who obliterated the trolls and beta kids sessions after gaining the powers of the kids first guardian (bec), and is now running around with pm locked in a perma stalemate after nearly killing wv (who was dropped off w the kids on the meteor and nursed back to health, becoming the mayor we all know and love). in the alpha kids session, jack works for hic, who usurped the black queen of their session long before the session even began (if youll recall, hic replaced the handmaid as le's servant at the end of act 5, and so everything she does in act 6 (including her takeover of earth) is as a servant of le). hes more proactive than ever, breaking the social customs and rules of derse and prospit to attack and (sometimes successfully) kill the alpha kids dreamselves. this is the jack that eventually becomes jack english, but ill talk more about that in another post.

i just thought this was a good time to make sure were all caught up on jacks shenanigans.

anyway, roxy is absolutely wasted through these early sub acts. and roxy, when drunk, is kind of an asshole. i love roxy, i adore her, and i remember her being one of the kindest characters in hs, so i was really shocked to read through these early acts and find just how mean she could be to her friends during this time. while shes generally chipper and bubbly, she can be harsh, frequently saying things that come off... really fucking mean, actually, and shes also pretty pushy, flirting with hal and jake even when it makes dirk and jane uncomfortable respectively. she is also... a little bit whiny, and pretty petty, literally giving jane a virus that will blow up her computer bc shes suddenly decided she doesnt want to play sburb, after blowing her friends off all day despite their longtime plans. its a really rough time period for her.

dirk, like dave in the early hs acts, isnt.... there much. like he really doesnt actually have a huge role? his dialogue is limited, with hal communicating w his friends 99% of the time instead. like dave, hes also the expert and voice of reason among the group, although where dave is more of a passive characters others can turn to when they have questions, dirk makes bold claims about manipulating things behind the scenes and being the secret leader of the session. dirk is already in action, already busy, already awake on derse, and so hes usually too busy for conversation.

instead, hal takes prominence in the first two acts. hal is quippy and quick, and actually seems to get along with dirks friends pretty well, despite their initial frustration at being unable to reach dirk. he has sincere dialogue with roxy, opening up about his feelings with her while also giving her a space to indulge in things dirk doesnt want to do. jane and him seem to get along... perfectly, actually. and while jake and hal butt heads a lot early in, with jake frequently calling him out on his shit or getting frustrated at dirks unavailability, when jake crosses lines and hal levels with him about being hurt, jake actually listens to him and tones it down. they get along way better after that.

The Albums

on the day of a6a2s release, we get our very first album of the act! song of skaia is another solo album, and its... incredibly short, with only three tracks. it has a haunting, interstellar vibe to it, like the vastness and beauty of space, and its pretty good! however, because of how short it is, it really just gets lost in the mass of hs music. i had to go and skim through the songs just so i could remember which ones they were. ; ;

Act 6 Intermission 2

aptly named "penis ouija" on the map, this is the year 1 mark check in on the ship and meteor, wherein jane and john play ghostbusters, and dave and karkat argue about terezi and draw penis ouija. also, spades is robot spades and being nursed back to health by hussie, and ms paint is introduced for the first time. hussie dies by le's hand, and thats when he starts dicking around in the dreambubbles harassing vriska (a reference to a long running joke started on the formspring). this is the act where the dreambubbles start becoming the thing theyll be for the rest of the comic, and while araneas been hinted at before, this is where she really starts interacting with people. its still a pretty short intermission. the colours and mayhem albums are released during this time.

The Characters

haha psyche im gonna talk about aranea later. fuck that.

The Plot

as i mentioned earlier, the intermissions are short updates, or check ins. theyre not super elaborate. still, i feel that this one warrants a little elaboration, just bc its referenced so frequently in fandom.

on the ship, davesprite rarely appears. he actually has such a small role in the whole trip, and hes mostly just referenced in conversation by john and jade. john, as well all recall, doesnt think of davesprite as the "real dave," but jade really does value him a lot, making the argument that both he and dave are similar, but separate people, in the sense that ds isnt just a replaceable copy, but a person she really cares about as his own individual. outside of this vague subject of ds, though, most of the ship checkins are about jade and johns boredom and isolation, and how they struggle to find things to do, even with so many planets at their disposal.

w regards to the meteor, the penis ouija scene is infamous, particularly among dvekat fans. i found the meteor check in interesting largely for 2 reasons: 1) its the first instance we see of karkat acknowledging his blood color openly and without fear, typing in it for convenience, and 2) despite karkats flagrant dismissal of terezis feelings when talking to dave about that godawful fucking chart, dave takes the opposite position, calling him out directly on the fact that he didnt even talk to her before trying to set up this insane fucking thing. the penis ouija is a way to sidetrack karkat from being such a tool. idk, i just thought it was an interesting moment

The Albums

coloUrs and mayhem: universes a & b are the result of a contest hussie hosted wherein she asked for character themed submissions, in an attempt to put together an album with all new artists and draw attention to musical talent within the fandom. it was a pretty cool idea, if naive to just how many fucking submissions theyd end up getting.

universe a is one of my favorite hs albums. its split into three parts, the first with songs themed after the ancestors, the second after the trolls, and the third a few bonus tracks. while there are a small, select handful of songs i cant stand (your universe my beloathed) almost the entire album is just hit after fucking hit. indigo heir and gold pilot are up there on my favorites list, but temporal shenanigans is just so good, its such a perfect fucking aradia song and it goes so hard. most of the tracks fit their respective trolls so well, and ive put this album on in the background a lot over the years.

universe b is formatted similarly, with the first part themed after the beta kids, the second after the alpha, and the third being bonus tracks. i dont like this one as much as universe a. there are way more bonus tracks than themed ones, and i dont have any standout tracks, but overall the songs are still good and it was a good listen.

Act 6 Act 3

now its starting to get real. back to the alpha kids, jane is now exploring her world and what it means to be stuck in a void session (one of my formspring recaps has a screenshot of hussie talking about what that is). brain ghost dirk is introduced as jake reflects on a conversation where dirk explained the history of their guardians and hic's takeover, calliope and caliborn are introduced in full after being teased in previous acts, and the act wraps up with dirks (but really hals) machinations to get everyone in the medium and caliborns victory over calliope. during this time, the albums vol 9, symphony impossible to play, and one year older were released.

The Characters

calliope is sweet, friendly, and beloved by all of the alpha kids, but particularly jane and roxy, who she seems to share the closest bonds with and talks to the most. she restrains herself in conversations in the name of avoiding "spoilers," knowing the future of their session due to roses journal that she maintained towards the end of their adventure (mentioned in a6i2). she believes she will play sburb with caliborn, and gain dominance through convincing him to be a better person, and therefore more like her.

caliborn is a nasty little bastard, hated by all. he likes dirk best, but who can say why. hes weird and perverted and not very bright, and has an obsession with saw-esque "games" with "shitty twists" that are really just him cheating. he wins his competition with calliope in a similar manner, by cheating and killing her dreamself, and then chewing off his own leg, which is later stated to go against how cherubs are supposed to grow up and permanently stunts his growth. ill talk more about that later, im sure.

neither of them have huge roles right now other than foreshadowing.

The Albums

vol 9 is another one of my favorite hs albums. crystalmethequins is one of my favorite hs songs of all time, but other noteable tracks include whistling jackhammer, pumpkin party in sea hitlers water apocalypse (fun fact: cronus makes a spoof of this song later), iRRRRRRRRECONCILA8LE, and of course, moonsetter and noirscape. these are some of the songs i was referencing in my albums 1-4 recaps that build off of early songs that i really love!

symphony impossible to play is a short solo album. its definitely pretty, but its very short and kind of just covers of very classic, constantly remixed homestuck songs, such as homestuck anthem. i didnt come away with much to say about it.

one year older is another solo album by erik scheele, who also did the sburb album i really enjoyed. hes a master of piano and crafts such beautiful stories with his pieces. this album follows johns journey through hs. i honestly loved it, but why the FUCK. is flying car replaced with fly from the mobius album on the unofficial collection. that was such a fucking jumpscare that was one of my least favorite tracks on that album (which i already DIDNT LIKE) and it really fucked up my enjoyment of what is genuinely a great album.

Act 6 Intermission 3

this is the dancestor one. The dancestor one. im going to talk about meenahbound in a different post, but aside from the dancestor thing, this is also the year 2 check up on the meteor and ship. this is where john has his birthday breakdown, and where rose gets drunk and goes on a date with kanaya. this is also when we find out gamzee and terezi have started dating. meanwhile, in the dreambubbles, vriska and tavros have met up post tavrisprite and are working together to amass a ghost army in the name of getting le to blow up a bunch of stuff, so they can discover some treasure that will stop him. tavros wants to propose to her, but i dont think theyre dating. ill probably wait to talk about that in the dancestor post, bc im worried about the word limit. genesis frog is the only album released during this time, and the tumblr is still going strong.

The Plot

johns bday breakdown is infamous. out of fucking nowhere, he flips out about how much he hates one of his most beloved movies, con heir, and ends the whole thing with a tantrum outside, screaming at a watermark of davesprite only he can see with such aggression that it knocks him clean out. reading through the breakdown now, its kind of obvious that its not really about con heir, or davesprite, or anything. its just that hes bored and lonely and feeling particularly frustrated and helpless about it. he lashes out at everything and everyone around him because hes been isolated for two years. its the anniversary of his dads death, and its clear that its just a tipping point for him. davesprites note is honestly like... its in bad taste, but its a pretty harmless, stupid note that seems typical for dave, and i doubt he was thinking about how it was the anniversary of johns dads death, especially given that he wasnt there when it happened, and he has a very different relationship to bro and bros death that also probably colors things. but for john, its kind of the last straw, and he loses it. in fics people tend to make it about davesprite, but it really, really isnt.

roses date with kanaya.... aw, man. its so bad. its clear kanaya doesnt really understand the connotations of rose being drunk, and dave is really, really worried about rose, trying his best to help her as much as he can in the precious few moments before the date starts. but rose and kanaya want to go, and daves not in the business of bossing anybody around ever, so he relents and lets them. rose is as wordy as ever when drunk, and spends a long time rambling her worries about gamzee and terezi. its incredible, she predicts right in that moment exactly how their session winds up doomed and why they should be worried about the relationship, but its clear her drinking prevents her from seeing it clearly or thinking through what to do about it. she then gets distracted, rambling a bunch of suggestive stuff to kanaya, and tops the date off with a spectacularly awkward and terrible drunk kiss, followed immediately by her falling down the stairs. its just... so rough.

The Tumblr

in summary, the tumblr so far has been a combination of what hussie hoped the formspring would be, and the newsposts. mostly, hussie posts updates about the comic, about art other artists contributed (often rbing their blogs or posts), and about the store, with occasional random posts that are vaguely related to homestuck (ie; the dark cage post, or the olive garden saga), and occasional q&a sessions, which consist of a singular post with a mass of answers. unlike with the formspring, most of the qs hussie answers are directly relevant to the comic and expand on lore, characters, or background information to development. the tumblr is... actually worth a read, shockingly. so far, its not terrible. way better than the formsprings, and also updates a lot less and a lot more concisely. this is in keeping with the comic, which is also slowing down on updates around this time (one year passes between the beginning of act 6 and the beginning of a6a4), and is focusing on plot heavy bursts, rather than meaningless bullshit.

The Album

genesis frog is a solo, thematic album, meant to capture the journey of billious slick throughout his life, touching on the prospitians and consorts worship of him, jades work in breeding him, and jacks hand in hurting him. the track art is stunning, and each song was crafted with a lot of thought and effort. the extra art is super cute. i dont think i have an ear for this style of music, and since i had it on in the background, i cant say i picked up on all of the detail that went into the pieces, but im nonetheless impressed, at the very least by the heart involved.

Final Thoughts

how does this feel simultaneously so short and so long so far? its probably the minigames. and the insane amount of albums all posted at one time, right after the other. so little has really happened so far, and yet so many significant, infamous fandom moments have also happened. i think its a side effect of hussie really only focusing on the most relevant things right now, and also a side effect of the fandom probably completely overblowing the meteors importance to the story. i guess its because homestuck slows down so much during the meteor journey, we were all just stuck thinking about it for so goddamn long. myself included! im quickly approaching the part where i started reading homestuck, which is very exciting for me.

on my first read of act 6, i remember instantly loving dirk, probably just bc he was an extension of dave to me (and roxy, for the same reasons). however, in these early acts, jake and hal were definitely my favorites. they have such a fascinating and fun dynamic, and hal is probably the funniest character in these acts to me.

I Despise Star Trek AOS

let me preface this by saying that its completely valid to like this series and that i respect the people who do, i respect those who love the characters, who love the cast, who love the pairings, these are just the critiques i have for it and that most of them are fuelled by loyalty to the original series, so if you havent seen that it makes perfect sense to enjoy the new series, its shiny and full of hot people who wouldnt

I WILL elaborate

#1 - little to no body positivity, everyone turns into a slimmer or more toned version of themselves, they dont embrace being stockier, shorter or chubbier at ALL

nichelle nichols is a beautiful woman, but she also isnt the "perfect standard for female beauty", she's shorter, she has thicker thighs and some curves, whereas zoe saldana, also beautiful, is pretty much the EXACT female body standard, shes tall and quite slender, and so it feels like something of a step back for good body representation

now i know that thisll get hate, so ill show that its really not just uhura's casting that demonstrates this

#2 - Uhura as a whole, i feel like they fucked up BIG TIME on her character, she goes from a super badass "99% of the crews efficiency" independent woman to spocks pining girlfriend, and thats basically her whole character (she has her moments, but most of them revolve around spock in some way) even a google search brings up a lot of spock/uhura stuff, shes just overall a pretty weak character without him which is a DRASTIC change from barely interacting with him

#3 - Casting Khan

need i say more?

#4 - chekov, they didnt even TRY to make them the same character, they just went "ehh theyre both russian, same thing" the resemblance stops there, in the original series, chekov is pretty grouchy and sarcastic, "oh ill live, but i wont enjoy it", whereas aos chekov, who is admittedly Baby, isnt even a little bit like his predecessor, hes bubbly, energetic, eager to help out and caring

#5 - spock, in the original series, spock is the voice of reason, hes calm, rational except for the occasional outburst of still relatively calm emotions, such as during pon farr, in aos, he just snaps into an angry and violent mess very quickly, going so far as to injure someone (which i highly doubt the original spock would do unless said person posed a real threat to the enterprise and it's crew, and when he does encounter a menace, he usually nerve pinches them, a faily painless way to knock someone unconscious, he doesnt just start strangling people) also i do know that jim was being a huge asshole, but he was still way out of line for his character

#6 - kirk, look at how theyve massacred my boy, my sweet jim was a tender and sensitive man in the original series, he was full of love and he was a nerd, he spent his academy years reading (and maybe horseback riding), hes super empathetic, caring, and the polar opposite of self-centered, whereas aos kirk is just a sleazy guy who seems mostly interested in sex and will just borderline harass people in bars (or full harass), which is pretty egregious compared to my hopeless romantic TOS kirk, whom i love, hes kind of a jerk, he insults spock's grieving process about his deceased mother right after his entire planet has been destroyed!! which is an insane thing for him to do!!! and super unbecoming of the original, compassionate kirk, who insulted spock like once in total. overall bad characterization

#7 - what in the fucking hell is this

now you might be saying "but mac, its cause they didnt have the tech back then to make it shiny and futuristic" which, hey, is true, but at least it looks fucking livable, it looks cosy and habitable for a supposed "5 year mission", could you live in the veritable "kardashian-west mansion" hell that is the aos entreprise? its so reflective, its too artificial. calm your tits jj, we get it, its the future. if they had blended the feel of the original and the clean cuttedness of the new series, maybe kept just some of the original palette, it couldve had a really cool look to in in my opinion

#8 - the bond between jim and spock, shipping aside, the mental gymnastics of saying that they have a weak bond is fucking insane. brothers, lovers, besties, soulmates whatever the fuck you wanna call em, theres a strong connection and 100% a love of some kind. that didnt translate like at all into the movies, they were friends, yes, but like they seemed like the kind of friends who text like once every 2 weeks, there wasnt the same closeness and trust that they have in the original series. there is that scene in (i believe it was) the third movie when jim is stuck behind the glass and slowly dying, ans spock just screams his heart out. while thats a poignant scene, it seems... a bit fake... since they did very little over the course of the three movies to build an actual valid bond since they were so focused on erasing even the notion that they were more than friends, they barely let them be friends at all.

debunking pro-snape/anti-james arguments and putting it on the internet because clearly i hate myself. buckle up. this is gonna be a VERY long post. im ready for the amount of hate i will get; im willing to take one for the team.

1. james forced lily into dating/marrying/etc him

this literally never happened? because its almost as if lily is her own person who is able to stand up for herself-

“I wouldn’t go out with you if it was a choice between you and the giant squid,” said Lily.

“LEAVE HIM ALONE!” Lily shouted. She had her own wand out now. James and Sirius eyed it warily.

She turned on her heel and hurried away [from james].

-and so she would not allow someone to walk all over her. its almost as if james (canonically) matured as a person, and she appreciated this, realised he was a good person and got feelings for him? because james’ only negative traits were that he was conceited and a show off. people are able to mature and grow from these things! james did this! he did not ‘force’ lily to go out with him!

2. james and the other marauders bullied snape

you know what, i cant even disagree with this one. you’re right - they did bully him. but lets look a little bit at the context.

sirius and james were both upper class, naive white rich boys. they are idiots. they were both stupid smart teenagers!! they were popular! and while this does not excuse the gross bullying snape was subject to-

Pink soap bubbles streamed from Snape’s mouth at once; the froth was covering his lips, making him gag, choking him

Several people watching laughed; Snape was clearly unpopular ... Snape was trying to get up, but the jinx was still operating on him; he was struggling, as though bound by invisible ropes.

-it (unfortunately) makes sense with context. james and sirius also stopped bullying people, and even expressed discomfort/regret with the way they acted-

“I’m not proud of it,” said Sirius quickly.

“Of course he was a bit of an idiot!” said Sirius bracingly, “we were all idiots!

[sirius talking to remus] you made us feel ashamed of ourselves sometimes

A lot of people are idiots at the age of fifteen. He grew out of it.

-when they were younger! i’d also like to point out these little lines i noticed when i was finding quotes for my argument which snape stans like to ignore:

James and Snape hated each other from the moment they set eyes on each other

I mean, he [snape] never lost an opportunity to curse James

there was a flash of light and a gash appeared on the side of James’s face, spattering his robes with blood

wow, look at that. the hate they felt for each other was mutual! snape also jinxed james! but oh wait - james was the one who matured! snape was the one who bullied his son twenty years later because he looked like james!

3. snape didnt abuse the kids at hogwarts

here’s a real argument i saw when looking through some pro-snape posts: ‘snape wasn’t an abuser, because abusers don’t let their victims retaliate, but snape did let the kids talk back to him’

what. the. fuck?!

this is the dictionary.com definition of abuse: ‘to treat in a harmful, injurious, or offensive way’ or ‘to speak insultingly, harshly, and unjustly to or about’. i’m pretty sure snape did both of these things-

“I don’t need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her!”

“So,” said Snape, gripping Harry’s arm so tightly Harry’s hand was starting to feel numb.

Snape threw Harry from him with all his might.

[hermione’s teeth] "I see no difference."

‘Idiot boy!’ snarled Snape [at neville]

-on multiple occasions. i’d also like to remind you guys that neville’s worst fear is SNAPE?! his TEACHER, a figure that is supposed to be there for emotional and educational support is his worst fear in this entire world?! above the woman who drove his parents to insanity? over failure, over his abusive grandmother, over everything? his teacher? and for the pro-snaper that used this quote-

Nearly everyone laughed. Even Neville grinned apologetically.

-to claim that it was a joke, it isn’t a joke. because when snape came out of that cupboard, he was terrified. yes, it’s an embarrassing thing to have as your boggart, but the point is is that it is. he is terrified of that man.

4. james only joined the order because his wife was a muggleborn and he ‘had to’

this is just factually incorrect. james had been sticking up for muggleborn rights since he was in school, far before he started dating or even became friends with lily:

“Apologize to Evans!” James roared at Snape, his wand pointed threateningly at him.

“I’d NEVER call you a - you-know-what!”

so this is literally not true!! plus, at least he did join the order, whatever his reasons where (which were canonically good). snape didnt join the order. snape was friends with someone who suffered discrimination in society, and instead of using his privilege to help her and support her, he joined a group that was set on murdering people like her. when james had a friend who underwent oppression (remus/lycanthropy) you know what he did? he illegally became an animagus.

5. snape had to be a death eater to survive at hogwarts as he roomed with blood supremacists

this is the shittiest excuse i have ever seen in my entire life. as a poc, this comment really reminds me of the argument ‘i was raised in a racist white household! i cant control my beliefs!’

you can always control your beliefs. i understand not going on big rants about blood inequality in front of a bunch of supremacists, and i understand wanting to blend and fit in (especially because he was unpopular and needed the support the slytherin boys provided), but i will never understand then becoming an active member of the group yourself. he got the dark mark. he helped voldemort. he was a death eater, and a proud one at that! no-one forced him to join. this argument literally makes my blood boil.

6. snape had a lot of trauma from being raised in an abusive household

okay? so did sirius. so did neville. luna was bullied at school, just like snape. harry lived in an abusive household. did any of those people bully children? did any of those people join a blood supremacist group? and dont get me wrong, im not calling any of these people perfect - they all had a lot of flaws - but none of them hurt another people to the extreme that snape did.

7. snape saved the trio’s lives many times

this is the absolute bare minimum. ‘oh wow, he didnt let harry die!! what a king! he should be respected and praised! we should excuse all of his other actions because he didnt let people die <3′

8. snape is not a perfect person, he also did good that many people overlook

you’re right, snape did do some good things in his life. but unfortunately, for me and many others, doing a couple of good things doesnt excuse all of the shitty, abusive things he did too. we’re not ignoring them - we just dont think they’re good enough reasons to forgive him.

‘but james and sirius hurt others! you ignore all the bad things they did in favour of the good!’ you do the same thing with snape, first of all. second, they did a lot of good stuff. james’ and sirius’ only crimes were being annoying. for being a bit of a dick, conceited, knew they were hot and were a bit entitled. while these things are annoying as fuck, they were also stupid teens that eventually grew out of their behaviour and became better people. not perfect! better. while snape just stayed bitter at the marauders, long after their deaths, and even took his anger out on an innocent child.

9. people only hate snape because he was poc and queer coded

as a poc and queer person, please stop. this is a very bad excuse. being poc and queer (which im pretty sure he isnt, but anyway) doesnt excuse you from your actions. plus, a huge amount of harry potter readers are poc and lgbtq. why would they hate snape for those reasons?!

so thats all i got for today. im not gonna go into a deep snily/jily thing because i literally cannot be bothered. anyway im done. i need to go revise, i’ve already spent long enough on this.

HP Boys: Surprise Pregnancy Head Cannons

Summary: The HP boys and their reaction to their s/o (afab) being pregnant when its not planned.

A/N: This takes place post Hogwarts so all characters are 18+, though no real smut happens in this so its not an 18+ fic.

So everything is going great for the happy couple, you two just moved into a flat together and are working normal jobs, drinking wine like adults.

And sure, Draco knows he wants to marry you, but he knows you’re not ready to settle down like that so he just plans and dreams.

Due to poor choices, when you’re late by two weeks, you know what it probably is.

Draco doesn’t even notice that you ran out to the store and came back and hid in the bathroom for 10 minutes. CEO of minding his own business ig

You just kinda...walk up to him and hand him all 3 tests while your eyes fill with tears because what if he demands you get an abortion?

Or what if he fucks off to god knows where?

But instead he just looks at you with the most un-draco like smile. Like his face was soft and it looked like he could cry any moment.

“Oh my god,” He says, putting his hand on your belly, “I can be ready for this, but if you aren’t then we can you know...”

“No, I want it” then both of you rejoice bc yay baby!

Cut to 6 months later when your feet hurt so bad you have to lay down and watch while Draco fails to put a crib together.

He eventually gets it done tho.

And when the time comes, he’s built and arranged everything for your bundle of joy.

Harry

So you guys are probably already married, but with everything at the ministry going on, it makes Harry less than a family man.

You both agree that it’s probably better to wait so you can be home and yk...raise it.

Well smart man Harry forgets that to not have a kid you need to use protection.

So of course when your period is late you don’t think about it, until its four weeks late.

That night, you and Harry are laying in bed, and thats when you tell him.

Ron is iffy on the kid thing sometimes.

He does want them, but only later when you guys have lived and travled.

So no, you two haven’t planned nor is it even in the picture when your wedding roles around.

It’s in the early days of the marriage when you see his family at the burrow on the way back from the honeymoon.

And of course Molly knows

Because Weasleys are hyperfertile I swear.

She takes you into the kitchen and puts her hands on your arms, shes got that big Mrs.Weasley smile on too.

“I knew it!” She says and pulls you in for a hug, “How far dear??”

You’re just standing there like🧍🏻

“I can see it by the way you glow! Oh my you and my Ron must be so happy!” This woman doesn’t notice that you’re confused.

“Wait what? Mrs. Weasley what are you-?” Then you count the days, “Oh. Well I guess I just found out for myself”

Her face falls slightly, but then she tells you can make you a potion that will tell you if you are or not, stan.

The stupid potion turns green when you spit into it, so everything is confirmed.

That night, you and Ron are getting ready for bed in the guest room and you decide to tell him.

“Ron, sweetie. We need to talk.” He looks like he’s gonna start crying but sits next to you on the bed.

“Y/N...I know its scary but please, we just got married I don’t want to divorce quite just yet 🥺🥺”

“Ron I-“ you start smiling, “I’m pregnant you dufus.”

He just freezes, for a while. Not saying anything, he just looks at the wall with his mouth ajar.

So you get up and go to Ginny.

“Gin, I broke him.”

“Ew, I don’t want to know about how you and him”

“No, I told him that I’m pregnant.”

“Oh, yeah that would do it. Just I don’t know... Give him a minute?”

You give him several, getting a glass of water then heading back up to the room.

Ginny was right, he needed a minute.

“I don’t...I wasn’t...you were.?”

“You don’t have to stay, but I think we can do it. Plus, you would disapoint your mom if you left so...”

“Okay...we’ll do it. I’ll be the best damn Father you have ever seen.” He says, talking to your womb.

Well...he’s a father I’ll give him that.

Pro of having a Weasley baby: free crib thats already put together.

Even if it looks like a death trap.

“We’ll put some blankets over it don’t worry”

You know how some Dads hold their parters hand during the delivery? Yeah he got sick and was moral support from the outside.

To be fair, you weren’t screaming in pleasure by any means.

Scary. But beautiful.

He shows the kid to everyone, he might be more in love with the baby than he is with you.

Ron see’s the appeal of having kids now.

Moving in with your boyfriend is always fun, right up until you guys go at it so much you forget protection more than once.

You think about it, then move on with your day.

Lets be honest, this man probably swapped the herbology books for the parenting guides.

“Well I mean I’m just wondering if we should go with this color or this one”

“Nev, it doesn’t matter. Our baby will not care.”

“I read in my book that Infants actually can recognize mood in-“

He won’t let you do anything during your pregnancy.

Gotta love a man who cries because he loves you so much and you’re having his kid.

“I never had a father, what if I do it wrong? What if the baby hates me and runs away at seven?”

“We’ve got quite a lot of time before then.”

He was there during delivery, letting you crush his hand like a champ.

You can’t help but cry when you see him sleeping on the floor next to the crib, its so sweet.

Fred

You two most likely already had two kids, so you decided to wait a bit so your hands weren’t quite full.

Well...your body decided not to wait.

A test provides the two lines, another wild child.

The two toddlers already run around like thing one and thing two, only with red hair.

I think Fred would gladly make the family dinner, and wear an apron. He’d own it, as he should.

But mf gotta not drop the salad bowl when you tell him of the fetus inside you.

“Fred we are going to have a bee-ay-bee-why.”

Your five year old has just begun to spell 😐

He’s happy tho.

Like over the fuckin moon.

He buys the two kids big brother/sister shirts too 🥺🥺

He knows the drill pretty well, so he isn’t too worried about the future.

But its funny that he still freaks out about the crib and feeding chair since he gave it away, you know because you guys werent having another kid.

He packed a hospital bag and kept it in the trunk, counting down the days.

Hours of delivery (He just sat back and held your hand) only to end up with a room full of 7 Weasley family members.

Fred always said that 3 was his lucky number :)

You guys were taking it slow, no marriage until you both felt it was time. And certainly no children before that.

Well you know...things changed when the test was positive.

You slid it over on the table, tears pooling in your eyes. He was stunned and quiet, which made you burst out sobbing because you knew that neither of you planned on having a baby.

But to your surprise he starts to smile.

“I want whatever you want, I’m staying by your side no matter what.”

“I mean...would it really be so bad? A house, a kid, a dog?” He holds your hand as you think aloud.

You both give it a week to think it over and the virdict is to keep it.

Thats when he decides he has to marry you, asap because he loves you and will never let you go especially now.

He loves to gush about the carrier of his child, to him you are a godess.

He’s the Dad with a predestination complex.

“Y/N, I just see him being a star quiditch player”

“George, we don’t know if it’s a him.”

He rolls his eyes “Okay then I can see her being a star-“

He made Hermione take you out for a movie date so he could rearrange your bedroom, since you only had a single bedroom flat.

You come back to a new set up including a cot.

Its no secret that Cedric wants a baby someday.

And he makes it clear your wedding will be spectacular too.

However, finding out you’re pregnant the week of your dream wedding was a shock.

A shock that made you bang your head into the wall because how could you be so stupid?? We had a plan??

So you decide to wait until after the wedding, that way it wont add onto the stress (happy stress) of the wedding.

Cedric keeps trying to fill your glass at the reception, to which you kindly refuse saying you want to remember the night entirely.

Yeah he’s like 🤨 mhm okay.

You can only pick at the dinner because ew salmon doesn’t sound like an option if you want to keep the contents of your stomach.

As everyone waves goodbye to the car, and you both set off into married life, he leans over.

“I may be out of my mind, but are you...?”

“Pregnant.” His face lights up, pulling you into a hug.

Finally, your car pulls up to a small cottage with lush garden scapes all around, putting a hand out, he walks you both from the car to the door.

“Ced, where are we?”

“Home.”

Somehow it was perfect with Cedric, even when it was rushed.

He loved talking to your womb, even if it was weird that he was talking about the babies future brothers and sisters.

“Cedric, slow down. We haven’t even had this one yet”

Basically he is father of the year before he’s a full father.

He’s there while you deliver, holding your hand and telling you how great you’re doing.

He doesn’t even complain when you insult him <3.

He updates you on everything.

If his eyes aren’t on that child, he’s either asleep or dead.

I think Cedric was meant to be a family man, because he loves everything about being one.

Rating different versions of the SoN cover out of 10

A classic. Honestly gorgeous, some of John Rocco's finest work. The color scheme? Spectacular. The ice/water/glaciers? Incredible. Sopping wet and angsty Percy? Hell yeah. I also appreciate that you can't really see Percy's face, which is ideal because it means that the art really doesn't do much to influence a readers perception of what Percy looks like in their mind, which is actually really nice. 10/10.

So like... the questers go to Alaska on their quest, so I don't really get why the artist of this decided that the coolest setting for this cover would be the golden gate Bridge?? Like yeah, sure. They technically are near there. But it's a weird vibe anyways. Also, I don't love seeing the characters faces, especially when they aren't portrayed as super intense powerful demigods... so yeah, not a great vibe. Everything else is pretty, tho. 7/10.

If I could find an HD version of this I think it'd be super cool. Right now my biggest issue is with the image quality, so I'm trying to ignore that and pass judgement. The font feels weird, and the border is kinda strange, plus the colors are mehhhhh, but it is kinda neat. I like that it takes place in Alaska, and has Percy's silhouette with the eagle. 7/10.

No offense but where the fuck did this come from??? This one loses a point because the scene depicted never actually happened in the books (unless I'm hallucinating and forgot), but otherwise, it's super cool, super sexy cover design. 9/10

Im sure it'd look better with better image quality. But like... not that much better. 3/10

Percy and Frank look like twins, and I don't love any depiction of Hazel that has her be super skinny with wavy hair instead of curly/kinky. Also, I'm pretty sure Arion is a different color?? But aside from that, its really cool. I like the mix of colors with the blues/reds/purples (though I don't love the mix of yellow/white text, and would prefer them being traded for a gold), I like the dynamic pose, I like the semi-accurste scene from the book (some artistic liberty is never a bad thing). Overall, really not all that bad. 8/10

Again with seeing Percy's face. At least he's better than the original character design, but still. I would've liked if this was a little less realistic bc it gets into uncanny valley territory for me, and I'd like more vibrant colors and maybe a different font/color pallette for the text. But I do love seeing Percy with the eagle, and it's really really cool to see the undead warriors bc I never really got a good impression of what they looked like/how scary they were/how many their were. This really gives some good imagery. I don't like a lot of the other choices about color/realism stuff, but the portrayal of this scene is really cool. 8/10

Okay, anyways. This is a little weird bc why is Percy standing in the middle of the ocean while he punches some gorgons? I'm cool with some artistic interpretation, but this just doesn't make a ton of sense. I do like seeing the water fists though (there something for you to think about-- water fisting. I'll wait for the fic), and I like that you can't see Percy's face, and I like the armor. It's weird that the title is so small when the series title is so big. It also looks like the cover of a book that was turned into a movie, which I personally find triggering, so that lost it a point. 6/10

Portraying Daddy Thanatos on the cover feels like false advertising. Its not baddddd... but it is weird. I'll give it a confused 5/10 with room to grow.

It's my first day of period and I'm feeling light-headed/woozy. So instead of being productive, I'm thinking of Joe-and-Nicky. Mainly, their sleeping position lol. In thimking about when/how they got to and agreement to sleep in that position ie Joe Big spoon and nicky lil spoon/knife... Is it because a)they just really like it or b)they got killed many times (>>> #times they killed each other) if they slept differently c)some other dumb reason or d) a combination of all of the above. (which also raises the side note that like. as far as varying cuddling positions go, spooning is rather high-risk for awkward boner situations. like whats joe supposed to do in that situation. book and nile and andy are Right There its not like he can actually do anything about it. does the rectory have a bathroom. anyways.)

Thoughts:

1. i know that Ye Olde Toxic Masculinity looked a bit different in the 1000s, and i.... think i read somewhere on tunglr that it was considered ‘normal’ around the time for dudes to snuggle but dont take my word on that. so i like the idea that it started with them just. platonically snuggling In The Way That Dudefriends Just Do and it kind of snowballed from there

5. nicky getting killed in some particularly gruesome way and afterwards joe is like 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 and cant sleep bc hes Worried and nicky is like ‘..do you want to just sleep over here with m--’ and joe practically breaks an ankle trying to scramble over asap

6. ‘theres only one bed’ but theyre both such sweethearts they both INSIST the other take the bed, so in an attempt to out-stubborn the other, they both end up sleeping on the floor (and also somehow end up cuddling by morning)

7. joe and nicky fall asleep facing each other Once and it ends with the two of them skewered on the same bandit’s sword and unable to pull it out and after nicky is just like [breathes in] Next Time We’re Both Facing The Same Direction

8. joe and nicky being separated in the night somehow (maybe nicky woke up and wandered off and got jumped for whatever reason?) and joe being like ‘[rolls up sleeves] NOBODY CAN TAKE NICKY AWAY IF I WRAP ALL OF MY LIMBS AROUND HIM AND HOLD ON ALL NIGHT LONG’ and weirdly enough, hey it works
