today was beautiful! i co-coordinated an event where i got to spend time in the presence of creatives and other community-centered folks 🥹 it was a reminder to indulge in joy, connection, and care. life is not just about productive productive productive. investing in my future is important but the present is worth my attention, too. fall in love with the path over the outcome.

Do you think Jayce could have developed some amount of claustrophobia while sealed in the box all those years? If so, any shift up in height indoors could make him feel trapped again, causing even more of a shift or a longer time for him to shift back. He would try to avoid breaking walls etc. while the Dread might be encouraging that, to literally break free and never feel trapped again, like in your art when the coffer is released then broken.
(Sorry if this is something that you’ve already answered. I’m loving your art!)
It isn't something I talked about much on here, but he definitely ended up developing some claustrophobia since the soul box, yes! While it doesn't quite work the same as being locked in a physical box, it still is a space that seems both infinite and also ever encompassing and small. Weird null space sort of thing that is keeping you in a dream-like state the entire time.
It's a little hard to explain that is he's not quite a size shifter outside of when he fully transforms? It's more that he's just gradually growing throughout the story and trying to manage it with the potions and spells is what has him up and down all the time with trying to maintain a size but it wearing off. I haven't full settled yet if that still is what I will stick with…
When it does happen to him in closed spaces, he really tries to not think about it and focus on the quickest solution, but I also think he's someone who's personally trained himself to react in a sane way in response to panic and fear most of the time. Not always, but this guy is in more life and death situations than the average person should be with his line of work lol I didn't post it before, but during the part he and Lucy get squished between the walls together in, he destroyed enough that it could close around them, but that closed space started to get to him. He tried to not show in front of Lucy (who was an enemy at the time still) that it was getting to him, but he'd start slipping a bit. Obviously growing then will just make things worse, but in this scenario he is needing to anyway to have the strength to push the walls apart again so they can get out. This might technically be the first time she's seeing his other form, but it's obscured by the lack of light other than the parts of him that start to glow.

I love the word "weak" in terms of a power dynamic that has clearly recently been skewed. Jacked bf, fittest of his friends, benching double his body weight 🤝 gf who just grew to four times his size and has a stronger grip strength than all his muscled combined.
"Oh honey, I never realized you were so...WEAK!" He was pushing his muscles to their limit against her palm which pinned him to the ground like an iron cage. She felt his resistance, sure, but keeping him in place only required the minimal exertion of downward pressure against him. "God, you're trying so hard. It's admirable, really it is, but clearly, that protein powder just isn't doing as much for you as it's already done for me. Good thing I already ordered another ten tubs of it before I outgrew the computer. And that room. And the house." She rubbed her legs together thinking about how good it felt to grow earlier, and absent-mindedly applied more pressure to his trapped torso. She could feel herself growing aroused for the umpteenth time that day. "I can't wait till it gets here." She said licking her lips as she felt another growth spurt coming on. "I hope they deliver to piles of rubble. Mmmph!" She spasmed another six feet taller, and he felt the weight of her hand increase, stretching further over him. He really was starting to feel weak as his muscles gave out and he slipped into unconsciousness.

Just a quick not friendly reminder: someone who has apologized for past mistakes, made amends for past actions, and clearly no longer holds past beliefs, is a far better person than one who digs up old dirt and uses a person's past that no longer exists against them.
