Do you think its a thing in the DC universe when there’s a show or pr stunt from a company or gov thats like “look at our 1 woman and 1 black man aren’t we so progressive!” (Even though theres like 50 old white men)

Someone is in the comment section like “the wayne family is more diverse than this.”

Bc we like to joke about the black hair blue eyes thing and on the surface they’re pretty uniform but you’ve got, canonically:

At first Bruce hated galas. He hated the idea of fake laughing and shaking people's hands he doesn't like. He didn't like the reporters trying to interview him and he thought the worst of it all was how people tried every opportunity they had to make bussiness with him in middle of a party.

That idea changed when he adopted Dick, as he realised he could spend the entire party bragging about his son. Imagine people's reaction to Brucie Wayne complaining about how his son was doing circus tricks and almost fell out of the chandelier.

It only became worst after time, as the rate for adopting new children became shorter and more of them each time. He then proceeded to brag about how his new adopted hispanic son loves school and even created a book club, about how his 15 year old is the CEO of the company and dropped out of highschool and how he was immensely proud of that, how amazing her daughter ballet performances are and how talented she is, how his 12 year son keeps adopting strays kittens even though he already has more than enough animals, and how he's fostering yet another child but it's considering adopting his (soon to be), new son, Duke Thomas.

Dick Grayson: Romani. Bisexual. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them.

Jason Todd: Hispanic from his mother’s side (Sheila and Catherine). Unlabeled, but dates any gender. He/They.

Tim Drake: Wasian, Chinese from his mother’s side. Bisexual, leans towards men. He/They.

Duke Thomas: Half African American, Half whatever his dad (Gnomon) is. Demi bisexual. He/Him.

Damian Wayne: Jewish and Caucasian from Bruce’s side, Mixed Arabic and Chinese from Talia. Unlabeled, just likes whoever. He/Him.

Clark Kent: Kryptonian, though raised American. Bisexual. He/They/Ze. Though is open to most masculine or genderless pronouns, as krypton has a different expression of gender (this is a headcanon of mine)

Conner Kent/Kon-El: Kryptonian from Clark, has some German and American from Luthor. Homosexual. Genderfluid. He/Him or any masculine or genderless pronouns.

Jonathan “Jon” Kent: Kryptonian from Clark, some Latino and Caucasian from Lois. Unlabeled, just likes whoever. He/They.

Barry Allen: Might be Jewish (has described himself as an attractive Jewish boy). Bisexual. He/Him.

Wally West: Caucasian, American. Pansexual. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them.

Bart Allen: Caucasian, American. Omnisexual, but leaning towards men. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them or Xe/Xem.

Hal Jordan: Half-Jewish (mothers’ side) though raised catholic (fathers’ side). Unlabeled, just likes whoever. He/They/Xe, is fine with any masculine or genderless pronouns, as many alien languages don’t have multiple pronouns.

Guy Gardner: Caucasian American for the most part, but is a descendant of the space-traveling Vuldarians, so he’s part Alien. Queer. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them or many other pronouns used by alien species.

Roy Harper: Caucasian, but adopted by and raised Navajo. Unlabeled, just likes whoever he likes. He/Him.

Michael Jon Carter (Booster Gold): Half-Jewish, through his Levin ancestors. (Confirmed by Jeff Katz). Omnisexual. Genderqueer. He/She/They, any pronouns, though used He/Him for the most part since its easier for others.

Ted Kord (Blue Beetle): Might be Jewish (Again from Jeff Katz). Demi Bisexual. He/Him, but is fine with They/Them.

Fun fact please?

Welp, it’s Hispanic Heritage Month, but tomorrow’s also Batman Day, and I’m having trouble coming up with something related to both of those, so, uh… we’re going with Batman. Do check out my Hispanic Heritage Month tag, though.

So Today You Learned about the opera in Batman Begins.

In the Batman mythos, traditionally, the movie that young Bruce Wayne sees with his parents the night they get murdered by Joe Chill is a Zorro film. You’ll notice that in Batman Begins, they don’t see a film at all, they see an opera, and Bruce urges them to leave early, because he’s freaked out by the bat-like figures on stage (Bruce in this version is scared of bats).

Today You Learned that the opera is Mefistofele by Arrigo Boito.

Now you probably worked out, from that title, that it’s an adaptation of the Faust story–a wealthy, skilled scholar sells his soul to the Devil for all of his desires, and then regrets it and tries to get out of it. The scene we see is the Witches’ Sabbath, when demons and warlocks and witches are all having a party to celebrate, and the demons appear to look like bats because, y’know, themes and all.

Hey, you know the story of Faust kind of follows Bruce’s arc in this film?

Nolan selected this opera for a reason. Bruce is someone who, on his quest for knowledge and power (specifically, the power to fight criminals and fix his city), goes and puts all of his trust in a charismatic figure with a fearsome reputation who assures him that he’s not really that bad–for Faust, it’s Mephistopheles, for Bruce, it’s Ra’s al Ghul (whose name is often translated as “Head of the Demon”!). He realizes that his demonic mentor is not as friendly as he seemed at first, and so he repents and goes against him–but freedom from evil isn’t as easy as you think, and it takes a lot more work than just leaving.

Kind of mundane and analytic-y, but I hope that works as a Fun Fact for you.

Batfamily Audiovisual Headcanons, Part 1

Dick Grayson: sounds like either Loren Lester (B:TAS) or Neil Patrick Harris (UTRH), both of their voices are pretty similar. Tbh I think about Ian Somerhalder a lot when I’m writing him description-wise, but so as not to ignore Dick’s Romani background, Danny Shepherd (who played him in the great Youtube series Nightwing: The Series) is probably a better fit. I don’t know what his ethnicity is.

Jason Todd: OK, it’s easiest for me to think of Jensen Ackles (UTRH) when it comes to Jason’s voice. However, since hearing Alejandro Saab in the fandub of Wayne Family Adventures, my heart has found another. In terms of looks...*sighs*. I HC Jason as being half-Hispanic & half-Italian, with green eyes (whether they’re natural or because of the Pit, IDK) and curly hair. Lately I’ve been using Peter Gadiot as his FC. Just don’t forget the white streak & thick thighs!

Tim Drake: the only age-appropriate voice actor take I’ve liked was Cameron Bowen’s (YJ). Personally, I’m cool with Tim being any race, as long as it reasonably fits his floppy long-haired look. A buddy of mine recommended Ryan Potter to play Tim, and I like that (yes, I know he’s in Titans, playing Garfield Logan). Ryan’s Jewish-American & Japanese.

Damian Wayne: at least while Dami’s a teen, I think Stuart Allen’s voice acting in The Judas Contract is a good fit. Though biracial children can look more like either parent, I do like to see Damian portrayed with tan (rather than light) skin. Arsalan Ghasemi is too old to play a teenager now (he’s 27), but I can’t help thinking about him as the little guy. Picture him years ago.

Alfred Pennyworth: I really like David McCallum’s (Son of Batman; look at 3:29) take on Alfred’s voice. I tend to think of the animated version of him (B:TAS), who is sassy as hell.

Bruce Wayne: Kevin Conroy (JL:U) is the perfect Bruce/Batman voice, IMHO. I tend to imagine his look in the animated series B:TAS, but I guess someone like Eric Bana would make a good Bruce.

hiiiii I lied, I’m posting chapter two here also. Again, this is on ao3 if anyone wants to hop over here and read it.

Newspaper. Stack of files. Cup of coffee. Bagel from the accounting floor break room.

Lily arranged the items perfectly in a line before heading back to her desk to log in and check Lucius’ agenda for the day.

“Good morning, Miss Amapola.” She nearly jumped out of her seat at the sound of the smooth voice in front of her desk. Did the door even buzz? Bruce Wayne held up a badge with a polite smile and she nodded in understanding.

“Mr. Fox isn’t in yet, but he should be here in the next few minutes. Can I get you anything? A coffee?”

“That would be great, thanks.” He leaned against her desk and crossed his arms over his chest. Lily pointedly ignored how his suit jacket sat across his incredibly broad shoulders. She poured the ochre sludge into one of the few extra mugs they had lying around and turned back to look at him.

“How do you take your coffee?”

“Black is fine.”

Her lip curled up into a smile as she passed him the mug and watched him take a sip out of the corner of her eye. He grimaced at the taste of the bitter brew and Lily wouldn’t lie that she felt a little pleased.

“Do you need anything else or just waiting for Mr. Fox?”

“Just waiting. Have you worked here long?”

Lily started to stack up the research reports she needed to read for the day and shrugged. “Two years. Mr. Fox hired me during my last year of college.”

Mr. Wayne ran a hand through his hair and shot her a charming grin. She ignored his clearly flirtatious action and instead focused on lining up her highlighters. Three minutes until Fox would walk in. She could handle three minutes.

“Gotham University?”

“Mhm.”

“Let me guess…fashion design major? President of your sorority? Did a few clubs?”

She let out a high pitched, fake giggle. “Something like that.”

Lily checked the time again just as the door swung open. Mr. Fox glanced between the two younger folks and smiled. “Good morning.”

“Good morning, sir. You have no meetings today but you have a dentist appointment at three,” Lily reported. She took his coat and hung it on the hooks she had installed on the wall next to her desk.

“Miss Amapola was just telling me about how you found her,” Mr. Wayne explained. “It appears that Wayne Enterprises is fortunate that you hired such an outstanding applicant.”

“Oh, I practically begged her to work for me. Lily here has the most impressive resume I’ve ever seen.”

Mr. Wayne looked at her in surprise. “Really?”

“Bachelors in biomedical engineering and chemistry. Masters in engineering. Summa cum laude…what am I forgetting, Lily?”

The dark haired woman brushed a stray curl out of her face and then held up her hand to count off her fingers. “President of Omega Phi Beta, creator of Gotham’s Latinas in STEM, president of the first generation graduates program, Society of Hispanic Engineers, and…club soccer. Yeah, something like that. Now, if you gentlemen excuse me, I have to go do some work in the lab.”

Lily grabbed one of the files on her desk, smiled tightly at Mr. Wayne, and headed into the cavernous basement. Bruce watched her go, an amused smile tugging at his lips.

“He sounds like a royal ass,” Nadia announced. Lily snorted out a laugh at her little sister’s declaration and took a sip of her wine before she placed the glass on the counter and turned back to the simmering pot on the stove.

“I’ve dealt with worse,” Lily reminded her. Her voice slipped into something more relaxed compared to her usual perky assistant voice. She was a born and raised Gothamite, of course. “A whole lot worse.”

The younger Amapola raised her glass in acknowledgement and then took a long drink. “You shouldn’t have to do that. You’ve proven yourself time and time again and yet no one gives you a chance.”

“Preaching to the damn choir,” she muttered. “Can you grab plates?”

Nadia rose from her seat at the sagging folding table that took up a good portion of the kitchen room and passed behind her sister. She continued speaking as she laid two plates on the counter.

“What am I gonna do without your cooking?”

“You’re only going to be an hour away,” Lily chastised. “Besides, it’s time you start learning to cook for yourself.”

“You’re breaking my heart here.”

Lily rolled her eyes but tugged her sister into a side hug. “I’m gonna miss you, kid. Even if you do eat me out of house and home. But you’re going to kick absolute ass.”

Nadia squeezed her tightly before nudging Lily out of the way so she could dish up their dinner. Lily acquiesced and moved to the table. Her apartment was small and shabby, barely housing three people comfortably. Paint peeled and chipped all along the walls, leaving ugly holes that exposed the slapdash plaster job underneath. The wooden floors creaked and groaned with every step and water stains marred certain blocks. Rats and cockroaches scurried across the floor more than Lily would like, but it beat living on the streets.

Lily’s roommates, Miles and Geena, were school teachers currently both at their night time jobs as a drag queen and bartender. The three had met thanks to a Craigslist ad and they were pleasantly surprised to find out that the others weren’t ax murderers.

“Lils…I just want to say thanks,” Nadia said as she sat the plate down in front of her sister and took a seat next to her. “I know it wasn’t easy for you to get us here and I’m so thankful for the sacrifices you made.”

Lily swallowed hard past the lump in her throat and fixed her gaze on the dirty windows across the room. Her lips pursed and she shrugged. “I did what we had to do to survive. You’re the one who got into medical school. You did that all on your own.”

“You and I both know that’s a lie. I wouldn’t have done it without you pushing me.”

“You go and see her?” Lily asked quietly. Nadia shook her head, scraping her fork against her plate instead of looking at her sister. Lily nodded and let out a huff of air.

“I’m proud of you, Nadia. Really. Even if you didn’t get this opportunity, I would be proud of you.”

Her little sister, her best friend, was leaving for Metropolis in the morning to start medical school. All the nights curled up under cardboard on the streets and huddled together on cots in homeless shelters and days when Lily would give her the little remains of food that she had as she slept on an empty stomach…it was all worth it.

Nadia clasped her hand over Lily’s and squeezed it before focusing on her dinner once more. Lily turned her attention to the TV with the news that droned on and on. The most recent story caught her attention and she stood to get closer to the screen.

“-eaking news. Police officials finally released a report regarding a vigilante dressed as a bat has been seen targeting certain members of the public. The Batman, as he is now being called, is listed as highly dangerous and unpredictable, capable of taking on an entire SWAT team. However, some cite the Batman as a helpful entity. His actions are credited with uncovering corruption in the GCPD and the subsequent resignation of Gillian Loeb. Commissioner Gordon states that there is no reason to be afraid of the Batman, unless, that is, you are planning on committing a crime.”

“Woah…a vigilante. That’s fucking sick,” Nadia commented. “You think he’s actually going to make a difference?”

Lily shrugged, her dark eyes still locked firmly on the TV screen. “First time for everything.”
