for all the talk about impulsivity i've seen, i have seen so little about calculated self-destructiveness. i definitely have problems with impulsivity, but those are often the nail in the coffin. all of the worst that i've done to myself has been completely and utterly calculated. methodical. i'm too smart for my own good.
so if you're the same way... i want you to know i see you, and the knowing nature of your pain does not at all downplay the severity of it. using what control you have to hurt yourself can be just as dangerous and deadly as losing control entirely. and even if it doesn't reach the point of endangerment, your struggles still matter. they do. and you deserve a lot better.

i don't know who needs to hear this, but guilt, self-hatred and shame are not sustainable sources of growth and healing. you can't hate yourself into feeling better, or being better. you can't repeatedly punish yourself for your flawed humanity and expect wholesome results.

gentle reminder that crying is actually one of the best things you can do to relieve all that tension and emotion in your brain, and not to resist the impulse because it's 'weak' or 'unnecessary' or 'a plea for attention.' if you need to cry, do it, even if you don't always know the reason. your body does.

Dude for real though your worth as a human being is not dependent on how productive or “useful” you are. You could do nothing but lay in bed all today and you’d still be worthy of respect and care. Bro you are a living breathing human being and your life has inherent value. Like straight up you don’t have to do something impossible or world changing with your time on earth in order for you to matter. We are all specks of dust in the cosmos and the fact that you exist at all means you are important. Dude you don’t have to earn the right to live bro, like I swear bro, like no cap.

Here’s your permission to acknowledge that lost child who felt way more pain than any child should ever feel. You’re allowed to cry for that child, whether you healed or are still suffering the same thoughts. Finally allow yourself to grieve for that child filled with undeserved hurt.
