It is okay to mourn the child that you were, or the child that you could have been. It is okay to be sad or angry that no one protected you like you should have been protected. It is okay to grieve.

Plural culture is having been discovered for ~5 years now. but also what's pluralkit and tupperbox and simply plural we had no internet access that wasn't being heavily watched over our shoulders for so long and our phone was reduced to a brick with lockdowns.
and then getting fake claimed bc we don't know how to use these things. and our phone is too old and broken and glitchy to use simply plural it freezes too much.
why do we need to track everything. we got so much hate just bc we didn't want to use labels/microlabels. (like 'oh yeah that's john he's a protector', too stressful.) we are just trying to live our silly lives in our silly brain. please.
The requirements the community has for using things like Simply, pk, and tupper are wild honestly
We use simply, we like it because we get really worried about lost time
We struggle with the discord stuff. We only started using discord recently
Some of our alters like the labels like protectors, gatekeepers, etc etc
Others hate them
A lot more ppl need to understand that we should not have a community norm with most things, this is at the end of the day a trauma response
And we need to be allowed to exist in the ways that are best for us

You do not need to monitor or check every little thing about your system. You do not need to have everyone's information filled out. You do not need to know who is fronting or co con all the time. It can be scary to not know everything but is can also be scary to want to know everything. Please make sure to give everyone breathing room to show themselves on their own time, you will always have enough time.

me chilling being a system and then suddenly im pierced with the most body shaking panic inducing primal fear that feels as if ive been stabbed in the heart by an icicle that makes my blood run cold and sends shivers that penetrate down to my bones and then my brain realizes it made a mistake or something and is like "whoops. my bad. fixing it" and then the feeling is gone im fine like nothing even happened and i fail to even properly remember what scared me so badly once its over

seeing people my age talk about how scared they are of memory loss, which they only associate with old age, is so surreal to see as a 24 year old who has actively experienced memory loss for a long time now
there are causes for memory loss besides dementia and alzheimer’s, i hope y’all know that. dissociative disorders, trauma, brain injuries, thyroid problems, even just stress and lack of sleep can fuck up your ability to store, process, and access memory. and that’s just a few of the many causes i can think of off the top of my head right now.
please stop treating disabled people like some scary “other” that you might become only in the distant, decades-away future. we are your age, too. you may become one of us sooner than you know. stop acting like memory loss marks the end of a life, when so many of us have so much living left to do!

Here’s my metaphor for systemhood that I tell my singlet friends.
Imagine you’re playing a first person video game. You have the controller, you control your character. It’s a normal first person game. You are an alter, the character is the body. This is fronting.
Other people live with you. Sometimes, they come into the room and sit and watch while you play. They sometimes try to guide you, give you advice on what to do next. They don’t always agree, and they can argue with each other. Other times they scream at you that you’re doing everything wrong and you suck at this game. This is co-consciousness.
Imagine how distracting it would be for people around you to tell you what to do, or to scream at each other or at you, even if they have good intentions. It wouldn’t be easy to focus on your game, would it?
Then sometimes, something happens in the game that prompts you to hand off the controller to someone else so they can play and you get a break. This is (some types of) switching. This can be good.
Other times, someone rips the controller out of your hand or fights you for it. This is (other types of) switching. And sometimes, six other players hook up their controllers, but there’s only one character to play as. So all of you have your controllers, but you’re all trying to play the same character. This is cofronting.
Imagine how difficult that would be. Imagine how hard it would be to try and play a game while someone is trying to take the controller from you, or while six other people are trying to play too.
There are also times that nobody is playing, or you can’t decide who should play. What’s happening to the character in the game? What are they doing if no one is playing? This is dissociation. The character is doing nothing. They’re stuck.
This is the best metaphor I have come up with for being a system. It’s something a lot of people get because they’ve played games before.

To anyone who was suicidal at age 14 or younger, here’s your permission to grieve. Here’s your permission to not joke about it or just flat out ignore it. Here’s your permission to acknowledge that lost child who felt way more pain than any child should ever feel. You’re allowed to cry for that child, whether you healed or are still suffering the same thoughts. Finally allow yourself to grieve for that child filled with undeserved hurt.

shout-out to people who fit the demonised DID stereotypes seen in movies & other media:
if you have violent &/or aggressive alters, i love you.
if you have complete blackout amnesia between alters, i love you.
if you have little to no communication between alters, i love you.
if your switches are overt & "distressing to witness", i love you.
if you've ever been called "scary", a "freak", or even "evil" for how your DID presents, i love you so much.
your experiences are real. you do not have to sugar-coat your disorder to make it more palatable for others. your brain helped you survive as best it could, so i hope you will find peace & healing when the worst is over. 🤍

Hey wanna be a better ally to people with delusions, mania, dissociative disorders and other disorders that effect your view on reality? Heres a simple tip! STOP TAKING PICTURES OF OUR SHIT AND REPOSTING IT
See a car around town with funny writing about the world ending soon or the government injecting people with microchips? NOT YOUR PROBLEM
See a post online written in a frantic cadence where someones providing their unhinged perspective on something relatively mundane? SCROLL RIGHT ON BY
See a dirty man in public holding a weird sign and talking about things that dont make sense? GIVE HIM A BOTTLE OF WATER MAYBE BUT DONT YOU DARE TAKE A FUCKING PICTURE
See any of the things described above posted for shock value and laughs? CALL IT OUT OR IGNORE IT
See something like the above but the person in question has politics you disagree with? YOUD STILL BE A CUNT IF YOU TOOK A PICTURE
Ive been that psychotic person before. Ive been screencapped without my knowledge by people who wanted to get a laugh out of my (unhinged) beliefs. This did absurd amounts of damage, got me harrassed, made me paranoid.

Plural culture is being so conditioned into masking all your switches & alters' behaviours that it makes you feel like you're faking since you don't show as many obvious behavioural differences

"system joy" comic from an OSDD-1b system

i'm sorry if there is any noticeable art style changes throughout the comic. it was worked on across several days, and usually our comics are completed within one. our comic style isn't always 100% consistent depending on who is fronting or co-fronting :') but we tried to keep it similar enough so that it hopefully wouldn't be too disorienting.

DID is simultaneously the most subtle, ambiguous disorder while also being the most intense, all-encompassing, extremely-personal-because-it-affects-fundamental-perceptions-like-memory-and-identity-at-all-hours-of-the-day disorder of all time.
