Guess I'm really doing this now.
Rant about Dceased: Dead Planet as someone who enjoyed Dceased and DCeased: Unkillables
It was mainly a John Constatine run.
Which would be fine, if it was properly marketed this way.
Because it starts with talking about the new Justice League and the Big Three, Jon, Damian and Cassie. But they aren't often the ones moving the plot forward, taking agency and all that. Sure, they appear, they talk, their growth is shown, but it doesn't feel like that these are our protagonists.
And the big bad evil that was teasered in issue two only became revelant halfway through issue six. Making it one and a half issues. The pacing was so, so off with that one.
Another issue is with how death is handled. In DCeased and DCeased: Unkillables, death MATTERED. It was brought up time and time again. The victims were mourned, they were remembered.
Here? They may sacrifice themselves. Then something nice is said about them. Maybe in the next issue as well, but that's it. Just abandoned toys.
Rag Man's death was important for the story but he isn't even mentioned after his death. With Blue Devil, at least Detective Chimp regrets that he didn't listen to him when he said they should turn back.
Don't even get me started on Jason. He was one of the protagonists in DCeased: Unkillables, a leader even. Here, he barely made an appearance. Which, yeah, okay, he doesn't have to. He had a reunion with Damian, which was nice. He is part of the Shadowpact, so still a fighter. But this was in the early early issues. In the middle, there was just nothing. And when he died in issue 5, it still didn't feel earned.
Killing someone early is one thing. Killing someone in the later middle? Build up to that! Sure, he comments a few times in issue 5, he introduced Damian to Rose, his wife. He and Rose talked during the battle for a bit. But it's simply not enough.
Damian comments in issue 6 that he think Jason has changed and he would have liked to know the guy he'd become. But all of Jason's character growth in DCeased happened in DCeased: Unkillables, which takes place DURING the apocalypse. Dceased: Dead Planet tales place 5 years after the apocalypse! Show me how he has changed! Show me how Swamp Thing thinks that Jason "was a good being" because they haven't met in DCeased: Unkillables.
Rose can see glimpses of the future and yet nothing is done with it except right before Jason dies. Again, the writers can't really agree on how her precognition power works. In Unkillables they had at least two instances in which they made references to her seeing multiple futures. Once when she didn't want to open the door of her apartment because "In every future I see, I open the door and I die" and the other one when Slade was sacrificing himself and there was this text of "She couldn't see a future in which they both survived".
So yeah, not this quick "5 seconds before it happens" like in Dead Planet. Characters can easily still say something before the event she sees takes place.
And all the loose ends that were never wrapped up.
I'm tired of this and I'm just leaving if at that.

A little rant about Captain America Cold War Alpha
mostly about Bucky, ofc, ‘couse you know, he is like that...
I’ve been ok with a lot of things Bucky has done through the Sentinel of Liberty run, I was ok with him shooting at Steve to kill the old Revolution, I was ok with his choice to join the circle to tear them down from the inside, I was ok with him doing the dirty work once again (not in the way I’d like to intend the sentence, LOL, but ok you get me, sorry for the stupid joke) and all because I could see where this all was coming from: he felt betrayed for yet another time in his life, discovering he was all along a pawn of something greater and more twisted than what he thought, he was lost and he wanted to act, no matter what. I even liked it to some extent, to see him trying and having agency for once, on his own.
But Cold War Alpha threw me off in a way.
I mean, Bucky may have his own moral compass, different from the one Steve and Sam look up to, he has endured some dark things and experimented the worst of mankind on his own skin, and these things are now part of who he is, no matter what, but in spite of all the bad he has never been a heartless, cold person. On the contrary. He may be a disillusioned man with still a tiny spark of hope in his heart that redemption is still possible, even coming to such a high cost (a cost he is ready to pay when it comes to HIMSELF).
But “torturing” Ian, he who was tortured for most of his life himself? Saying he won’t be happy when the Captains will be DEAD - well at least- but that he will be winning then??? Well, this is going a bit too far, tbh. I feel like the writers are now really pushing too much for shock value and they’re starting to lose grip on the character. Yes, there’s still the possibility this is all for a show off, all double agent criss cross shit, and probably this is how CW will end, but still, it felt really too much for me.
Also Peggy involvement is a bit too forced. She isn’t a saint for sure, but isn’t an evil person either. If I was in Steve, Sharon and Sam place I would think these people are just gone straigh insane, lol. I don’t know, it feels like the Outer Circle’s excuse is not strong enough to justify all this madness.
Maybe is just me, idk.
Btw Sam and Misty were the cutest.
Still hoping Natasha will beat some good sense into Bucky’s head next month. I’m more scared than ever at this time, but still...
I know this was supposed to be a short rant, LOL, but shortness? Never known her in my whole life, I assure you!

*deep breath* okayso I feel like this blog has devolved into a shit ton of batfamily thoughts so I'm about to come out of left field here but (warning for self-harm below the cut) (oh also this is So long) (and ignore how angry my tags are the actual ramble is much less rant and much more depositing character thoughts) (okay disclaimer over)
when are we gonna go back to laura kinney's self harm shit?
because that shit was a big deal??? like??? she was cutting from such a young age and for so long and then we get a little "crazy ex-cutter girlfriend" line in the all-new x-men and that's it.
not to mention the crazy shit she did in aforementioned anxm? like she got lit on fire. so yeah it wasn't actively self-harming but. that's still hurting herself.
and then gabby came along and it was a hard stop. no more of that. she was responsible for this little thirteen-year-old-ish tiny version of her who'd lost her sisters and her whole world and didn't feel pain and laura was responsible for teaching her that just because it heals fast doesn't mean it doesn't matter.
and the other thing, and the thing I'd bet money on being true for laura because we know it's true for akihiro: your emotions affect how you heal. akihiro just straight up did not grow his arm back that one time. guilt and regret and shame are so tied up in the way they heal.
and for the first two hellfire galas laura wore gloves that covered her arms entirely.
and I have to say I want to know what happened. does she still have her scars? is she ashamed of them? did she ever tell gabby what they were? are they healing? will they ever heal?
did they not come with her when the five brought her back? is that why she wears the gloves and the sleeves -- because her scars are gone now, and she wasn't exactly fond of them, but they were still a part of her, a record of where she'd been, and it feels a little strange to look down and not see them anymore?
did they heal sometime between her earlier days as wolverine and now? did they heal while she was on krakoa? on the x-men? did they heal for talon but not for her? or vice versa? does talon have the scars now and laura does not? another way laura is technically now a copy of who she originally was? do her arms no longer bear the marks from who she used to be? or did they never in the first place? are they even hers?
how does she feel about them, now that she's come out the other side? now that she has a family, a life, a purpose outside of the perfect little killing machine? does she see the scars on gabby's face the same way she sees hers? does she see akihiro's tattoos the same way? do the others ever say things? has logan ever asked? has remy, has jubilee, has gabby? how does gabby feel about them? does she even understand what they mean?

I'm at the point in this Daken Akihiro guide where I'm reading the new X-Factor comics by Leah Williams. And oh my god.
Who allowed her to take both my favourite bisexuals (Akihiro and David Alleyne) and fucking RUIN THEM.
The literal amount of cringe I have had to endure at her hands is TOO FUCKING MUCH.
I have some screenshots.

a random child asks Batman “How many times a day do you think about the Roman Empire?” for the meme and accidentally unlocks a 45 minute unskippable cutscene that only ends when Superman physically picks Batman up and flies him away from the enthralled history nerd child

I saw the words "art influencer" and my frenzy meter filled up.
Before anyone comes at my ass for being "jealous" or that I should "just let them get that bag," no. Wrong. What the fuck is wrong with you.

I miss comics. Like right around when the first Avengers movie came out I got really into marvel and subsequently branched out a bit and fell in love with comics and I swear the era was like a little Renaissance and we were SPOILED cause we had Matt Fraction and David Aja on Hawkeye and Kelly Sue Deconnick was on Captain Marvel and there was my favorite run ever of balck widow with Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto (which I'm still mad we didn't get a hardcover collection of by the way) and there was a great xmen run going and secret Avengers and YOUNG AVENGERS (omg I miss young avengers) BUT THATS ALSO WHEN Saga was starting and imagine getting into comics right when Saga is coming out and being like wow comics are amazing but actually you're just really lucky to have one of the first things you pick up be one of the greatest comics of all time
Like there were other good things coming out for a while and I mostly stayed current until like 2016 ish...but then I fell off and I fell off. I miss it.

I feel like Jason todd being a "brick" or super bulky is only half true. I feel like he definitely has more muscle than anyone else (except Bruce), but he has to still be somewhat light to do some of the tricks he does. Like Dick is obviously skinnier because he's more acrobatic and agile than strong and I've always kind of headcannoned that Tim is just one of those people who struggles to gain weight or muscle. So yeah, Jason is going to have more muscle than them. But, I feel like, and correct me if I'm wrong, but too much extra muscle or weight would slow him down and make it harder to do some of the stuff he's done. Like, he's an agile dude. Like some of the stunts he does in Under the Red hood :
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And he seems to be light enough on his feet to sneak up on people:
Tumblr media
I know there's other examples but that requires some digging I don't have time for at the moment.
I'm still not entirely sure where DC writers got it in their heads that Jason was the bulky stupid one, but it gives me classist vibes tbh. I mean, even through the entirety of under the red hood, he was sneaky, cunning, clever, etc. Anyway, that's a little off topic. I'm trying to say that Jason has more muscle than the majority of the batfam but not a bodybuilder Brickhouse block kind of dude.

Guys, I’m so happy, I finally received my “Winter Soldier - the electric ghost” comics! Isn’t the one I ordered from Abebooks back in April, thought... I found another copy on ebay, way cheaper, and it is actually a translated version (yep, it actually was published in my country too, and all this time I was searching for it with the original title... AGAIN!!! I’m so lame, I swear!), but it is in perfect and neat conditions! I’m so happy!!! MAYBE I CAN REST NOW LOL!
Anyway, if the Abebooks copy would ever reach me I may consider to re-sell it at a very super cheap price... In case I’ll be posting on here, so if someone is interested, stay tuned!:)

I think the Batman (2022) sheds light on such an underrated detail of Batman's story, and that's, ironically, Batman himself. We see Bruce. As in actually, truly see him. the way he's so repulsed by himself when he's not Batman. The most apathetic we ever see him is towards himself. Bruce does not care If Bruce lives or dies because ultimately, he does not care for himself.
He's lonely and starves for people and contact but he doesn't want to be BRUCE. Even when he shares intimate moments, he's Batman, while everyone around him wants the man behind the cowl, because no one cares about an empty mask.
But the final scene? Where he's helping, saving, holding people tenderly? Where he doesn't wear the contacts? That's BRUCE.
Bruce who's tragedy with heartbeat, who has all the reasons to be a villain and leave Gotham for death and rot and he DOESN’T because at his core Bruce loves people so MUCH. Not Batman, not The Bat, not the Knight, -- it's BRUCE. BRUCE IS THE HEART. YOU CAN'T WRITE A GOOD BATMAN IF YOU DON'T WRITE A GOOD BRUCE WAYNE!

"But Lokius isn't even canon! Stop making everything gay!"
...
The Loki series isn't just about romantic relationships and shouldn't be seen as so. However, there is a lot of subtext. Maybe this ship is not canon, but it was intended to be seen as so by the fans.
If Lokius isn't canon, then why were the last two shots of the series showing Mobius and Loki?
Tumblr media
If Lokius isn't canon, why would there be so much touching and scenes so physically close to one another? (believe me I know they're friends. that just offers a solid base for something more)
If Lokius isn't canon, why is there an OFFICIAL track named like that?
Tumblr media
Why is said track played or incorporated in different scenes of the series? like
-the first McDonalds meeting with Sylvie,
-the back-in-time conversation with Kang
- the ASCENSION to the throne?
Why is the Sylvie and Loki kiss never mentioned, by the producers, in the series per se, or even in the season 1 recap?
Why is Mobius the only one looking at Loki when he leaves down to the temporal loom?
Tumblr media
And the other way around, why did Loki only make eye contact with Mobius in that scene?
Tumblr media
Why is Mobius the only one to notice there is something wrong when Loki is still trying to fix the Loom?
Tumblr media
Why did Mobius/Don on the original timeline, mention he's single, trust a complete stranger, invite him for a drink, AND offer to sell him a quite personal jet-ski?
Tumblr media
Why did Loki, the LITERAL GOD OF MISCHIEF stutter and fix his hair and coat for no one else but Mobius (who by the way is just a jetski salesman on that timeline)?
Tumblr media
Why is the timeslipping Loki had to go through directed to Mobius twice, him being the the only one he doesn't need a TemPad to "recruit"?
Why would Loki bring up Thor and Jane if it wasn't to mirror him and Mobius? (because, as he already was talking to Sylvie, he certainly wasn't implying it's about her. They were arguing, AND Mobius was implied in the conversation. Loki defended him in front of Sylvie, in case you forgot.)
Why would Mobius's voice be the one to echo back to Loki on his throne? let time pass time pass time pass
Why the RAINBOW?
Tumblr media
WHY DID LOKI LOOK AT MOBIUS RIGHT BEFORE THE FAMOUS LINE "IT'S ABOUT WHO"? (important mention: Sylvie was behind him when he said that. why didn't he just turn around when saying it? nope, they know what they're doing)
Tumblr media
Why is the shot cut to Mobi after Loki's "it was more about what I wanted" line?
Why the shot where 7 characters could've been showed (Mobius, Loki, Sylvie, B-15, Casey, O.B., Victor Timely) there are only 2: Mobius and Loki?
Tumblr media
Why is Mobius the only one to tell Loki he can be someone good, and the first one Loki actually believes despite his tendency to do the other way around in the past?
Why does Mobius finally find insight, and reinvent his whole life at the TVA because Loki helped him do so? (they're not even the first Loki variant he faced, but something clicked this time)
Why does the bloody sleeve, representing Loki being hurt by Sylvie just because he "wore his heart on his sleeve" disappear on episode 2? (because he finally understands who he needs to be next to)
Why did Mobius risk his life on the first episode?
Why did Loki go to past Mobius for the final advice, not to the present one, not to Sylvie?
Why did Loki ultimately sacrifice his life for the ones he loves?
And why is Mobius left alone, with the door locked, after Loki leaves in the Loom's radiation?
Why would there be so much endearing looks, and smiles at each other, if not for a conscious acting choice?
Why why why why why if it isn't canon?
Nothing is for nothing. Especially in television, where everything counts from the light to the angles and the way the lines are spoken.
We don't need to see two characters kiss to know they are made for one another. In fact, I think implied canon is so much better for now, because it leaves free interpretation for the fans, and nothing to strike on for the haters.
Of course, that doesn't change the fact that the ending is still tragic, although it holds its sweet from bittersweet. But remember: there aren't tragedies without love.
