I watched Wish two days ago. It was painfully mediocre, which is too bad, it had such great potential. Whatever they were cooking up in the writers room and art department looked great, until all those great ideas got scrapped.
Anyway, I wanted to talk about the forbidden magic aspect of the story. You use it just one time and apparantly you're gone forever? That's stupid. It's not like Magnifico was a terrible person for a good part of the movie anyway, the dude just felt used, and honestly seemed to have burnout, he wasn't perfect, but he wasn't evil either. So that fact he used forbidden magic and that's when he truly becomes bad takes away his agency as a villain. Which means that it's not okay to lock him up for forever when he's clearly not 100% himself (the movie was really: "sorry no cure"). Dude was easily redeemable, they just didn't want to put the effort in.
I'm getting a little off topic. My point is, there are better ways to handle to forbidden magic aspect of the movie. What I would have preferred (if we were still going forbidden magic route) is if he had been using the magic since before the start of the movie. We see in flash backs that it started in an act of desperation to protect his people, and you know what it worked. He didn't like that he had gone this low, but it worked, and his people were safe, so in the future when other threats came, he used it again and again. Slowly he became addicted to the forbidden magic, and the power it granted him (this was over the course of several years, where in the beginning he used the magic only for good and selfless acts, but later he kept finding excuses to use it, and it became more and more for his own gain). His wife knows about his use, and she even gave him the okay the first time he used it because of the rough circumstances, but she sees him deterioting and worries if she made the wrong choice (I'm sorry, I love the evil couple too, but she's good in this version). By the time in the movie Magnifico would use forbidden magic when he got stressed or overwhelmed and he needed to calm down (like smoking). But as the movie goes along the events push him to be more desperate, and he is fully turned over by the magic, it consumes him.
In the beginning, he did try to resist the magic, like I said, it's like an addiction, but it became progressively harder as he used it more. He didn't fully seem like himself when he used the magic, but he'd try to cover it up.
I prefer this version for several reasons: a) it's a hell lot more compelling than one and done, b) it gives the character more agency and we get a better understanding of his path towards darkness, c) it makes for an interesting tragedy as it originally started as a selfless act for his people.

I really want "just needs a bit of shading" to become a thing. I want it to be a thing to say when something is bad.
Morally Dubious Character: *kills thousands* Me: Just needs a bit of shading.

For those of you who remember this post by me:
Tumblr media
I decided to make a comic out of it because I wanted to. I might make alternative versions of this comic too if I feel like it.

Guess whose back with more comics?! Me, and this one I think I will call bad snake anatomy.
It's real title is actually "Aziraphale's Snakes." But whatever. I made this after headcanoning that snakes just love Aziraphale (bet you can guess why ;) .
Anyway, might make more comics related to this topic because making this gave me more ideas.
I don't have much more to say, so bonus panel:
Tumblr media
If you can't read it, it says "Aziraphale at the Zoo:" I just really wanted the words to match his eye color for some reason.

I have listened to more country music in the last four days then I have in my entire life. And it's all Jensen Ackles' fault.

Since Dune is trending. Just friendly reminder that the book was heavily inspired by Middle Eastern culture. And the fact that there is a lack of MENA actors in major roles in the movie is something that should be talked about.

Scenes/Things in Supernatural that genuinely don't make sense to me if Dean was straight:
The confession booth scene.
Sam just rolling with the fact that Dean's siren is a guy while still thinking sirens infect people through sex.
Dean being flustered by several men: Gunner Lawless, Aaron, Doctor Sexy, etc.
All the parallels between Destiel and other couples. (A big one being "last night on Earth" bc how do you do that accidentally.)
Having all the gay jokes be on Dean instead of Sam.
Paralleling Sam meeting his childhood celebrity crush with Dean meeting Gunner Lawless.
The boner Dean got when Cas cleaned up.
Dean gulping after Cas does an impression from a Western movie.
Charlie, a lesbian, calling Castiel "dreamy."
The way Mary looks at Dean and Cas when they hug.
Dean wondering why everyone assumes he's gay, while Sam not caring.
The logic that Charlie can't flirt with guys because she's only attracted to women, but then having Dean flirt with the guy for her.
Dean seeming disappointed when learning that Aaron's flirting was fake.
The amount of time Dean and Cas spend staring at each other.
Dean canonically having an orgy with Crowley.
A woman saying that she knows when someone's pining for someone else to Dean, just for us to learn that Dean was never in love with Amara.
The set design and script choices that lead to a cross in the background while Dean said "I do." to Cas after he came back to life.
Edit: To the people who say I can't use the siren as an example because the siren is supposed to be his brother, and therefore his siren being a man doesn't work. If you reread that bullet point, then you will realize that I didn't put it down as just simply Dean's siren being a man. I recognize that the siren is supposed to be his brother. It's the fact that Sam still thinks the siren infects people through sex, not knowing that it's actually through saliva when he realizes who the siren is. So when he sees that Dean's siren is a guy, he had to assume they had sex, and he does not seem surprised by this at all.

You know what's funny, years and years ago, before Hazbin Hotel came out (or years before I had even heard of it anyway) I had an oc. My oc was blond, gay, the child of Lucifer, honestly really nice, dating an angel, and figured the people of hell deserved a second chance (hell in this version had mental institutions, hospitals, free therapy, etc. to help the people). A big difference is that my oc was a guy, while in the show Lucifer's kid is a girl. But you know what they have in common, my oc's name was Charlie.

Watched the new atla show. And now I will share my thoughts because I need to put them somewhere.
I agree with people that it kind of fell flat. More like an impersonation than the actual show. Also, people are right, where is Katara's rage? I'm not going to dive into it, because people already have, but Katara is stubborn and righteous, so where'd they put those qualities?
I wish the show would stop telling us everything. Like, stop telling me that Ozai thought finding the Avatar would be impossible, and sent Zuko on this quest anyway. I know, it's obvious. I don't need to be told the subtext, that's why it's subtext. Subtality could do this show a world of good.
Zhao's death sucked. It was perfect how it was in the original, it showed Zuko's kindness, and Zhao's hubris being his downfall was perfect. Also, this isn't necessarily a complaint, just something I noticed, Zhao feels different in the show. A guy with similar aspirations and ideas, yes, but not the same guy we all hate.
The acting wasn't always the greatest, but I can't tell if it's actually the actor's fault or script (probably script).
I wish Sokka was involved in the Jet plotline, he played a big part in it originally, and it really showed his true character.
Why did Katara and Aang never get any actual training in Northern Water Tribe? That's what they were there to do. Somehow, magically Katara became a master waterbender, because she what? Believed in herself? That's not how learning a skill works. Imagine trying to learn the flute, you're confident, and you figured out on your own how to play a few notes. But you still need someone to teach you the rest of the notes, how to trill, how to read the sheet music, etc. You can't learn everything just from confidence.
The costumes bothered me so much. Sokka and Katara's coats looked so light weight, which is probably more comfortable for the actors, but those coats could not shield you from a light breeze, much less a frozen tundra. Also someone pointed out that their clothes don't actually look worn, and they're right.
What on earth was the scarf scene? Why was it there? What was the point? I am not a Zutara shipper (though I have no hate for the shippers, just dislike for the ship), and now online is just going to be posts about that.
Was Suki just not wearing her warrior make-up because she had to kiss Sokka? Either way, it's still upsetting. The one time she doesn't wear her warrior make-up (which is an honor to wear) is when she's finally in a real fight, and on the day Kyoshi shows up too. Also, no Sokka wearing warrior make-up? I get if they couldn't fit it in, but it's still a bit sad.
I don't understand them getting rid of the fact that Aang ran away, I think it really makes his character more complex as he struggles to take on the responsibilities of the Avatar.
They sorta switched Sokka and Katara's roles in the Omashu tunnels, which I don't get.
Having Zuko fight Ozai in the Agni Kai was a terrible idea.
I'm sorry to say this, because I don't like Zuko being in pain. But Zuko's scar is smaller and a lot more understated than in the animation. I don't know much about burnt tissue, or how it will scar, especially with their technology. But we rarely see heroes with facial scars beyond a line through the eye or something, I don't want it taken away. The scar doesn't even seem to reach his ear. And I'm sad about them confirming his sight was fine. Zuko with some hearing and vision loss is technically just a headcanon. But then why did Zuko only leave his unscarred side up when sleeping around people he didn't trust in the animated version?
I could tell that Aang was airbending during it, so it wasn't really flying. But it's a little too similar, especially considering how significant flying is in Korra.
The thing that bothered me the most was Yue's death. Why was it barely acknowledged?! Yue made a huge sacrifice, but instead we're making up a plotline that causes Aang to have the spotlight instead. And when Sokka was talking to Arnook about Yue, somehow the conversation became focused on Sokka, and his insecurity, instead of someone they both deeply miss (though Sokka and Yue's relationship development could've been better). Sokka is joking around again by the end of the episode, it feels like her death never happened! And why make her a fish! No offense to fishes, but it feels less impactful, and in the original, we could see how Yue was able to keep some of herself alive in the way she presents herself as a spirit, she doesn't do that here.
Some things I liked:
Zuko being upset about Aang stealing his journal.
Sokka and Suki had really good chemistry (though, the show doesn't really give us a reason why Suki likes him, she seems annoyed with him when they first meet).
The effects were good, and I liked a lot of the fight scenes.
Kyoshi.
Oma and Shu being lesbians.
That one lady hitting Zuko for trying to hurt Aang.
Suki being awkward and beating up the guy she likes.
I am impressed with how they were able to overlap some story lines. That must have been difficult to figure out.
The sets.
Azula.

I just think shows like Grey's Anatomy, where a lot of their drama comes from sex and romance, are missing the comedic potential of including an aroace character. Just imagine after seasons of characters being constantly horny, there's a character who's just like "no thanks."
I could see this going two ways. A one-episode character, whose probably a patient and happens to mention they're aroace, causing the doctors incredible confusion, and knowing them, they're probably going to ask invasive questions or talk behind the aroace character's back before learning to accept them. I feel like Meridith or Cristina would think they were lucky. Alex or Mark would be the one asking invasive questions. Izzy would probably think they're sad. But I just want the doctors' assumptions and thoughts about sex/romance to be challenged.
The second way I could see this going is a reoccuring character who is used to contrast the rest of the cast. One version of this is that this character is in the closet, and becomes friends with the main characters. So the main characters would ask questions about their sex/love life, and the aroace character would be like, "Yes, I've had all the sex, lots and lots of the sex." And try to get away as quickly as possible. Another version would be if they were open about it, and they'd see the messes the main characters sex/love lives would be, and are like "Thank god I'm immune."

Part 2: The Supers' Side of Things
The Supers are smart, they figured out what was going on fairly quickly. But they made a deal that they wouldn't ask out their respective Bats first. So instead they just drop really obvious hints, and hope that 'the world's greatest detectives' figure it out.
Tim: Nice work today. Kon: Yeah, we make a good team. Tim: Y-yes, well. Kon: Is there anything you wanted to ask me before you go? *flutters eyelashes* Tim: Oh, yes. I wanted to ask you... well I wanted to ask you... if you would... if you would... Tim: *clears throat* If you would send me your report of the battle.
*Jon coming home after finishing a case with Damian* Jon: *slumps onto Clark* Clark: What's wrong bud? Jon: *muffled* He got so close today! Clark: Who? Damian? Jon: *nods* Clark: *gives Jon a few reasurring pats on the back* I'm sorry bud. *trying to hold down a smile*
Story where Tim, Damian and Bruce all realize that they can't all date a Super, because that would be weird. So they instead compete to see who can get over their emotional repression and ask out their Super first. Shenanigans ensue as they keep sabatoging the others. Tim nearly tells Kon how he feels when he gets floored by Damian's dogs. Bruce almost says as close to a confession as he can when the electric billboard behind him gives out his personal phone number, and he tries to ignore the constant calls, but Clark is worried about if there's something important. The sabotaging gets progressively more ridiculous as time goes on, and some of the other Bats join as well, even though they don't care who wins, they just think it would be fun to mess with them. There are also several arguments about who should get to be the one to confess.
Bruce: I've known Clark the longest. Tim: Exactly! You missed your chance old man!
Tim: *lists all the reasons he and Kon should be together* Jason: Oh come on Tim, you already got a male love interest. Let the others have a turn. Tim: Stay out of this Todd! Jason: *walking away laughing*

If I lived in the DC universe, I'm pretty sure the highest honor I could receive is if Damian approved of me.

I've seen several things now of the Batkids trying to find their dad a girlfriend/boyfriend, and a lot of people get mentioned: Catwoman, Talia, Superman, Oliver, etc.
But I just love that I have yet to see Wonder Woman be a choice. Even though Bruce and Diana have canonically had romantic feelings for each other. I like to think that the Batfamily just decided as a whole, "Yeah, no, we're not going to do that to her."
