The First Birthday
1 Week Before Your Birthday
"Aww..." Nat and Wanda coo in tandem. "He did all that for a birthday?"
Bucky's face drops, hearing Sam's embarrassing recollection as he walks into the room. "Sam, I told you to stop telling people that. They're going to think I care. Or worse that I have feelings."
"Oh, I'm never looking at you the same," Sam smugly continues. "He stayed up all night. Combed through files all by himself. Steve and I didn't help until we found him at like 3AM."
"What were you and Steve doing up together at 3 AM, Sam?" Bucky counters, turning his head in insinuation.
"You guys," Nat teases, putting her arm around Sam's shoulder as Wanda's lips pull in to contain her cheeky grin. "So cute!"
Sam wrenches his shoulder out from under Nat's arm, eyes narrowing in accusation. "You know that we were playing games on the big TV. You know that so why do you say it like that?"
Bucky shrugs, feigning innocence. "All I'm saying is no one can corroborate that story."
"Okay, can we get back to the birthday thing?" Wanda interjects. "I can't get over that."
"I can't believe Bucky has feelings," Nat mutters.
"I don't," Bucky immediately objects.
"And he's thoughtful!" Wanda adds.
"No, I'm not. I'm mean and crass and grumpy-"
"James?" you call, from just outside the room.
"Yes, Doll," he chirps. "I mean, what?"
"You're so silly," you chuckle, walking into the room. "I'm heading out. Tony has me on like three different missions this week, so I probably won't see you until next week."
"Next week?" Bucky quietly whines, though he knows exactly why your schedule was completely overbooked. "That sucks."
"I know, but I'll call you when I can."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
"Okay," he sighs, gently kissing you. He pulls away after a moment, leaning his forehead against yours. "Please be careful."
"Always," you promise.
"Love you," he say, still holding your hand as you start to walk away.
You chuckle as he maintains a hold on your hand even as you pull away. "Love you too."
"Miss you," he calls after you.
"Oh yeah, a real macho man," Sam teases, jutting his thumb in Bucky's direction.
To which Bucky only responds with a sharp elbow into Sam's stomach.
"Now, if you're done being an ass. Is everyone clear on what they're doing?" Bucky asks, his kind, warm demeanor dropping the second you're out of earshot.
"And...he's back," Sam huffs.
"So you're not done being an ass?" Bucky sighs.
"Can we focus, please? Bucky, you were delegating," Nat prompts.
"Ordering," Sam corrects.
"Right," Bucky states with a commanding nod. "Sam, you've got decorations. Wanda, you've got food and drinks. Tony's already invited everyone and is keeping her on missions all week. Steve's one job is to not blow the secret. And Natasha... don't let them mess this up."
"Got it," the group collectively nods.
1 Day Before Your Birthday
"I left you one job!" Bucky exclaims, his voice filled with annoyed disbelief as he scans the various bags of decorations splayed out on the table. "What the hell is this?"
"How do you not get it?" Sam scoffs, holding up the large pastel banner. "It's her first birthday!"
With two clenched fists, Bucky grits, "These are meant for a baby! For an actual first birthday!"
"That's part of the joke. Come on, it's funny!" Sam insists, looking around the room for anyone to back him up.
Both Nat and Wanda avert their eyes from the two men, pretending to be completely immersed in their own separate conversation.
"She's going to be 26! Not a year old!"
"Listen, you don't have to get the joke, but I know she will because, unlike you, we both have a sense of humor. But it doesn't matter," Sam assures, placing a comforting hand on Bucky's shoulder. "Either way...you're still a cradle snatcher."
Bucky wrenches his arm out of Sam's grip, pointing a threatening finger at Sam. "If you call me that one more time, Sam, I will not be responsible for what happens to you."
"Anyway..." Nat interjects, stepping between the two men. "Everything's ready to go for tomorrow. We're going to get started decorating bright and early and all you have to do is keep her busy."
"Great. I'll plan to bring her back at 5. Make sure everyone's here at-"
"By 4:30, we know," Sam monotonously drolls, repeating the words Bucky had drilled into their heads in preparation for this day.
"Good," Bucky exhales, scanning the room to see everything coming together exactly as planned. And for some reason, it still doesn't feel like enough for you. After all this time alone, he wanted this to be absolutely perfect for you. He wanted to make up for all that time alone and forgotten.
It takes Sam a moment to look up from the decorations to see an pensive, almost unsatisfied look on Bucky's face. Sam sighs, dropping his head and shoulders in defeat, "Now what?"
"Nothing," Bucky sighs.
"Obviously something," Sam urges.
Bucky's head lolls slightly as he scans the room of his friends all collaborating on this surprise party for you, debating whether or not to vocalize his worries about your birthday. "You think she's going to like all of this? I mean, she hasn't brought up her birthday at all. What if she doesn't want any of this?"
"I don't think she knows how she's supposed to act. This," Sam genuinely says, gesturing to the room. "It's all new to her. People caring. Putting in effort. Having a birthday. She's never had that before."
"Oh my God, I just wanna give her a hug," Wanda sadly mutters.
"Can I be let out now?" Steve calls from the locked conference room next to the room where everyone else was party planning.
"Did you learn to keep a secret?" Sam sarcastically replies.
"No," Steve defeatedly sighs through the door.
12:00 AM- Day of Your Birthday (17 hours before)
"Pssst..." Bucky whispers, wrapping his arm around your shoulder. "Are you still awake?"
"No," you groggily groan, languidly shooing his arm away and curling yourself further into the blanket.
"Kind of sounds like you are," he chuckles, pulling you closer to him.
"Is someone dying?"
"Not that I know of."
"Then, I'm not awake," you huff, tucking yourself into the covers and out of Bucky's hold.
"Hey!" Bucky whines. "Come back."
"Go to sleep," you exhale.
"Fine, but one thing first," he says. In one smooth, quick movement, he tugs the blanket to turn you back to him.  "Happy birthday."
"Aww...you're so sweet," you coo, stroking his face cheek. "Thank you....Now let me sleep."
"Okay," he chuckles, pulling you back into his embrace.
10:00 AM- Day of Your Birthday (7 hours before)
When you finally creaked a lazy eye open, you were greeted two things, the bright light streaming through the sheer curtains and and uncharacteristically excited Bucky waiting for you next to your side of the bed.
With one eye still closed, you groan, "Why are you watching me sleep?"
"Are you finally awake?" he chuckles.
You sigh, "Now I am."
"Happy birthday," he quietly exclaims, peppering light kisses all over your face.
"You already said that," you giggle, half-heartedly pushing him away. "It's too early for this kind of excitement."
"No way! A birthday is once a year. We have no time to waste," he says, taking your hand to sit you up. Without explanation he leaves your bedroom, only to come back a few seconds later with a cheeky grin and a large tray in his hands. "And first things first, breakfast in bed."
You quirk a brow at him as he lays the tray on your lap. "You cooked?"
He scoffs,"I resent the implication that I can't make a simple breakfast."
Your eyes rake over the large assortment, the cup of coffee, stack of pancakes, eggs, hash browns, all plated next to a small cup of flowers and a note saying 'I will always love you'. Then, you turn back to him, your head playfully tilted with the same doubt-filled expression.
"Yes," he huffs. "I made this all by myself. I absolutely did not have FRIDAY giving me step-by-step instructions."
You press a sweet, chaste kiss on his stubbly cheek, "You're so sweet."
The two of you ate idly chatted as you enjoyed your breakfast in bed, relishing in the quiet moment. And after just over an hour, Bucky finally coaxed you out of bed with promises of a day that would make you forget that all your friends were called into an emergency mission.
Walking hand in hand down the gravel pavement to his bike parked in the garage, Bucky asks, "So is there anything you'd like to do today?"
"Well..." you start, then falter when you realize that your plan was no plan. You maintained that if you had no expectations there would be no room for disappointment. "I've got nothing."
"There's nothing you want to do on your first ever birthday?"
"Honestly, it's enough to know that I have one."
"Come on," Bucky cajoles. "We have to do something."
"I really don't want to make a big deal. It's just another day...A day that ages me an entire year."
"Oh, you're supposed to save the existential crisis for the day after your birthday," Bucky sarcastically remarks.
"Oh," you nod, feigning a serious expression that breaks only a moment later with Bucky's laugh.
He tugs at your hand as he stops in front of his bike. He lightly leans against the bike, looping an arm around you, "It's your birthday. That's something to celebrate."
4:00 PM- Day of Your Birthday (30 Minutes Before)
After intense deliberation and persuasion from Bucky, you two took a drive from the Compound into the city where you spent the day playing tourists. Though you'd lived in the city with Sam for almost a year before moving into the Compound, you never really visited any major tourist attractions. You walked through Central Park and Times Square hand in hand, visited the Empire State building, and the Statue of Liberty.
It was a whirlwind, glee-filled day.
But despite the fun-filled day, there was a pesky little voice in the back of your mind that kept reminding you that everyone else had forgotten. Even Sam.
You kept reminding yourself that your friends owed you nothing, they were on a mission and sometimes it simply couldn't be helped. You were certain that if they were here, they'd remember. Right?
You silently chanted that you held no expectations. But somewhere along the way, expectations, hopes for your very first birthday, somehow seeped in.
And though you wanted to go home and wallow as you watched movies on the couch, Bucky insisted on making your birthday a special day. So instead of movies at home, he brought you to a movie theater. You didn't quite understand his insistence but you did appreciate how much effort he was putting into making your birthday special.
"Sam," Bucky hisses, keeping a close eye on you as you wait in line at the concession stand, just hoping you couldn't tell that for the last two hours he'd been flying by the seat of his pants.
He could tell you were doing your best to keep a placated expression as though it didn't bother you that most of your friends had forgotten your birthday. He also knew that this was exactly the reason you wanted to do absolutely nothing for your birthday, you didn't want the let-downs after building this moment up in your head after so many years. "You were supposed to be done already! How much longer?"
"We're doing our best. But I'm surrounded by idiots," Sam seethes, now clearly speaking to the people around him instead of Bucky, "Because apparently we can land jets and shoot alien guns, but asking for a balloon arch is too difficult. No! Why would we hang the banner over- Buck, I'm gonna have to call you back."
"Sam," Bucky objects, but the line is already dead.
"What was that?" you ask, handing Bucky the bucket of popcorn.
"A reminder that I'm surrounded by idiots," he mutters, shoving his phone back in his pocket.
"Okay..."
"It was nothing. Sam had a question about the mission."
"Oh," you nod, and Bucky's heart clenches when he sees your smile drop.
"He wanted to talk to you, but he's got shitty reception with the satellite phone."
"Oh," you nod again, though this time, Bucky can see a hint of a hopeful smile pull at the corner of your mouth.
6:00 PM- Day of Your Birthday (2 Hours After 30 Minutes Before)
After a overall incredible day, you were mostly content with your birthday. It was more than you'd ever gotten, you reminded yourself. You spent a fun day with the person you loved most. And you told yourself over and over that you needed no more than that.
But there was still that achey feeling in the pit of your stomach that everyone else simply forgot.
"Why are we walking through this way?" you ask as Bucky guides you down the side entrance of the Compound, the most indirect route possible that rounded almost the entirety of the Compound.
Bucky nonchalantly shrugs, lying through his teeth to keep you away from the your surprise party, "Scenic route."
"Scenic route?" you mutter, clearly not believing him.
"...And the last time I left my bike in the garage someone scuffed it," he begrudgingly admits, reconciling that at least that part was true, he was just omitting the rest.
"And this person is still alive?" you sarcastically remark.
Bucky rolls his eyes, "Ha-ha."
When you make it back to your bedroom and before Bucky can tell you otherwise, you kick off your shoes at the doorway and eagerly flop onto your bed.
"Nope," Bucky objects, a cheeky grin on his face.
"No, what?" you ask, propping yourself up on your elbows.
"I can't end the day without wining and dining my girl."
"No," you whine, flopping yourself back on your bed. "Can we just stay in?"
Bucky pulls you back up off the bed once more, desperately trying to keep the secret that there was a room full of your closest friends waiting for you while simultaneously urging you to leave you room. "No, it's your birthday. I want to take you out for a nice dinner."
You throw your head back. "We could have a nice dinner here."
"Please," he pleads, gently pulling you toward the door.
"Fine," you dejectedly sigh.
"Well, don't sound so excited," he chuckles.
6:30 PM (2 Minutes Before)
You forcefully sigh as you exit your bathroom, "Okay, I'm ready."
"Damn," Bucky cheekily whistles, already fully dressed the dark blue button down that you loved. His hands are planted at his sides as he sits at the foot of your shared bed watching as you smooth your dress for the evening. It was more than a little funny to him that out of all days, today was the day you abandoned your bright colors for a little black dress. "You got a boyfriend?"
In spite of yourself, you laugh at Bucky's playful demeanor as he tugs you closer to him, "You're such a dork."
"Only for you, Doll," he hums, pulling you into a sweet, languid kiss. "You look beautiful."
"Thank you," you trill. "The compliments almost make it worth leaving our room."
"Just trust me, you're not going to regret it."
"Very sweet, but very cryptic."
"I have to keep some tricks up my sleeve," he says, less than subtly guiding you down to the room where all your friends were waiting.
"Why are we going this way?" you lightly question, figuring that he's leading you back to the garage to borrow Sam's car without his permission again. "You know Sam hates when you borrow his car."
"Just trust me. It's a short cut," Bucky insists, ushering you into the dark room instead of out of the building.
"Since when-"
Before you can even finish your sentence lights flicker on overhead and the silence is broken by loud, overenthusiastic, scattered cheers, "Surprise!"
You're shellshocked, and your eyes flicker all around the room unable to settle on one singular element of the pleasantly chaotic surprise.
"I thought- I thought," you stammer, feeling choked up at the party filled with everyone you know, the people that always showed you unconditional love. "I thought you guys forgot."
"Forgot?" Sam scoffs as though you've deeply offended him by even thinking that he could forget and pulls you into a tight hug. "Bucky wouldn't let us. You should've seen him-"
"Shut up, Sam," Bucky interjects, punching him in the shoulder as he pulls away from you.
"Oh, tell the birthday story again!" Nat prompts.
"Please don't," Bucky huffs.
"You guys! This is so nice," you praise, your heart swelling with unbridled joy as you take in the thoughtfulness of the gesture. You look around the room to find your favorite foods lined up on the table, decorations in your favorite pastel yellow, to the decorations that celebrate your 'first birthday'. "Aw... because it's my first birthday, how creative!"
"Told you she'd get it," Sam mutters under his breath.
"Don't ruin this," Bucky scolds, only loud enough for Sam to hear.
"Can I be let out now?" Steve calls from the conference room.
10:00 PM- Day of Your Birthday
"Awww," you marvel, holding up the polaroid that Sam just gifted you. "This is perfect. Thanks, Sam."
"Well, since you like old things," Sam pointedly remarks, his eyes unsubtly flickering between you and Bucky. "Get it, like Bucky? Because he's old."
"There's not a person in this room that didn't get that Sam," Nat sighs, taking the camera from you and placing in down on the table with the rest of your gifts that arranged from funny gag gifts to thoughtful like the prank box Nat got you for you and Sam to wreak havoc around the Compound, to sweet little gifts like the pair of yellow sunglasses from Peter because they matched 'your vibe', to meaningful gifts like the Polaroid camera from Sam.
"Wait, Bucky's got something too!" Steve states, gesturing to the gift tucked beneath the table.
Bucky sharply elbows Steve, hoping that he would've been able to give you your gift in private, he mutters, "You really don't know how to keep your mouth shut, do you?"
"Not even a little bit," Steve cheekily agrees, handing the box to Bucky anyway.
"It's kinda stupid," Bucky stammers, shrugging to feign nonchalance as he hands you the neatly wrapped gift.
You roll your eyes, waving away Bucky self-depreciation. The gift seated in your lap, you carefully peel away the wrapping paper to reveal a large wooden box. You share another fleeting look with a faintly blushing and slightly uncomfortable Bucky before you slowly creak the lid open. Your eyes flicker between all the little trinkets, toys, and other small items in the box. Old CDs, little knick-knacks, children's toys, and a plethora of other seemingly random items. "What is this?"
"It's sort of your very own time capsule," Bucky meekly explains, his hand rubbing at the nape of his neck. "Toy, CDs, other stuff from around the time you were a kid. Just some things from the last 25 years that I thought you might like to have."
"I love it," you whisper in awe of the thoughtfulness. "Thank you."
"I am never looking at Barnes the same way," Tony quietly remarks to Wanda.
"Wait until Sam tells you the birthday story," Wanda adds.
Bucky ignores his friend's remarks, leaning in to softly kiss your lips, "Happy Birthday."

You know, after Multiverse of Madness, I never want to see Wanda again. And it's heartbreaking because she used to be my favorite character, but I just feel that she's irredeemable at this point. They did such a shit job explaining how the Darkhold works that it's hard to use that as a strong justification that she'll ever be able to be heroic again. The most they give us is vague "oh it corrupts people" and "it showed me what I want." So it's hard to see how it can be a strong defense for her actions, especially when Agatha had the book for centuries and didn't go nuts and kill everyone.
She's just so vile and monstrous and cruel throughout the whole movie. I can't see any of the heroic characters in the MCU wanting to be anywhere near her ever again; Strange clearly didn't think she was worth saving as he didn't even try to convince her not to drop the fucking mountain on herself.
And, considering how many fans have outright hated her and refused to give her the benefit of the doubt with Westview, I don't see how any of them will forgive her for killing multiple beloved fan favorites.
It makes me almost wonder if I was wrong in my love and defense of Wanda all these years. That maybe she really always was a monstrous villain and I was just too naïve to see it. That everyone who's hated on her and insisted that she's evil was right and I was wrong to ever love her as a character. I just don't know if my interpretation of the character for all these years was wrong, or if Marvel really has resorted to absolute insane levels of gaslighting to destroy a powerful female character.
Idk man, it just sucks to see how despite the constant touting of "look how progressive we are now!" Marvel is still openly using every sexist and ableist trope in the book to tear down characters that don't fit the white, straight, male generic action hero mold.
I feel like Wanda has always been a very divisive character since her introduction. I don’t think it was ever quite clear whether she knew Strucker was Hydra before she signed up? From memory, Strucker was operating as SHIELD in Sokovia, and was encouraging the local rebels (the twins being part of them) to destabilise the country. But I think a lot of fans remember her as choosing to join Hydra.
A lot of fans are also very coloured by their biases. Wanda has faced up against Tony multiple times, as you can imagine a lot of Tony fans dislike her. A lot of people also think she’s let off too easily? Which I tend to disagree with. There’s a saying — “you use a contribution to pay for a mistake”. That’s what Wanda was doing in CACW, she was using her powers to try and help people to make up for the mistakes she made in her youth. At the end of her series she apologised to the town, reversed her spell and put herself into exile. I still see people calling for her head though, so I think there’s no pleasing some people.
I feel like a lot of MCU stans also…refuse to look at the MCU as a story by itself but keep drawing the comics into it, with disregard to what that actually means to character consistency in the MCU. When I pointed out to my friend that it didn’t make sense for Wanda to go that way after her whole series of dealing with her grief, she just shrugged and said “yeah but Wanda is a villain in the comics and she had the House of M story” — I don’t know the accuracy of that but that’s certainly the sort of stuff that gets thrown about a lot on MCU hype sites like screenrant.
I think I’ve grown pretty good at ignoring MCU canon these days. And I think that’s what you have to do. I’ve seen a lot of support for Wanda though, even if it’s along the lines of “she’s hot while murdering people”. It’s sad because I think the series did an amazing job at fleshing out her character and lending credence to her vulnerability. She’s someone orphaned at a young age and grew up with a war, there is a lot of trauma and loss and misguided naïveté guiding her actions. I don’t think Wanda has ever been intentionally selfish or evil, which is why DSMoM is disappointing for her story.

the familiar pain of unrequited love, part 1
Tumblr media
Pairing: Wanda Maximoff x Natasha Romanoff
Rated: General
Summary: It's been two years since Natasha saw the woman she loves. She was about to see her again but unfortunately, the reason for that was grave danger her boyfriend was in. Adding a threat of the end of the world into the mix didn't help either.
We all know what happened in Infinity War. But let's look at it from Natasha's point of view.
Chapter: 1/2
Note: I can't promise you a happy ending. Because we know how it ends. I can promise you pain. I decided to divide this into two chapters, I guess to let you take a breath in between.
My wife was not happy with this, I can tell you that much. But it's not my fault. I'm blaming my friend Ashley. I read her old Swan Queen story that was similar and it just gave me inspiration. Which resulted in this and me analysing every scene of Infinity War.
Anyway, happy reading and as always, please, consider leaving a comment <3
Read on Ao3
The second Steve got the phone call and they found out Thanos was after Vision’s stone, Natasha felt sick. All her senses were alerted. Her stomach was twisting with anxiety, fear and, she would be lying if she denied that, some level of excitement.
She urged the two men to get on the quinjet as fast as they could. She insisted on being the one flying it, almost shoving Steve out of the way, muttering something about her being the one who got it in the first place anyway.
She just wanted to know they were going as fast as they could. She needed to keep her mind occupied. She needed to do something. Anything. Anything other than worrying because that wasn’t going to help anything.
Vision’s life was in danger. Or the soul stone, rather, but that’s what is keeping him alive. And seeing as Vision was currently on the run with Wanda, it was very clear that she was also at risk of, well, being killed.
Just the thought itself caused Natasha’s stomach to do another twist. She hasn’t seen the woman in about two years. Two long years of being on the run. They had very limited communication to keep the exposure to a minimum, only reporting that they were alive.
The message about Thanos didn’t come from them, it came from Tony, or Bruce, if you will. Which meant Wanda and Vision either didn’t know yet or… Or it was too late for them to alert the Avengers.
Natasha didn’t want to think about that. No. That wasn’t an option. Just because Vision shut down his communication channels and they stopped reporting themselves didn’t mean something was wrong. It just meant that… The woman closed her eyes for a second, trying to push that thought away. It just meant that the unusual couple didn’t want to be found, didn’t want to be disturbed, they just wanted to be alone.
At first Natasha thought that those rumours were bullshit. Wanda, a human, couldn’t date Vision, a robot. That was ridiculous. Or wasn’t it? Wanda wasn’t a normal human though, she had superpowers.
Natasha still couldn’t wrap her head around that. Super strength and speed, sure, she could believe that. But moving things with one’s mind, controlling people’s thoughts, that was too much for her.
And yet. And yet the young brunette hasn’t left her mind since the day they met. Sure, they didn’t start as friends. Wanda caused Natasha unimaginable pain by bringing out her darkest memories. Seeing as they were on the opposite sides at that time, Natasha didn’t blame her. It took a while but they got past that.
The more she trained the young woman, the more time she spent with her, the more she was on her mind.
It was wrong. Natasha realised that. Falling for someone was bad enough, it meant split attention, thinking about the other person and how the outcome of a fight would affect them.
Falling for a member of your team was worse. It meant that if they were fighting alongside each other, part of her was always keeping an eye on Wanda, making sure she was okay, making sure she didn’t need her help, even though she knew the woman could kill her with a snap of her fingers.
The quinjet was faster than a normal plane but the flight from New York to Scotland still took a couple hours which left Natasha with a lot of time to wonder what it would be like seeing the woman again and how much it would hurt, seeing her with Vision.
Judging by just her thoughts, a lot.
But that is something she could dwell on later.
“Touching down in one minute,” she called in the back to alert Steve and Sam. She had to get her head back into the fight, to focus on what they might encounter. Aliens were her least favourite to fight. You could never guess what to expect, the weapons they could have and the powers they could possess.
The jet landed as close to the location they got on the couple as possible. They ran into the train station to find a couple of funny looking people, if that’s what they were and without thinking, started to fight.
They couldn’t see Wanda and Vision at first. But that didn’t matter. That didn’t mean anything.
Focus.
Immediate danger.
Fight.
She caught the spear Steve threw at her as she was running to the alien. She pierced him with it without thinking.
Another one.
She threw it back to Steve as she was battling him in hand to hand combat, pulling out her batons.
It was a short fight. Sam managed to knock one down with his wing and they disappeared into the night sky, along with their spears.
He was the first one reaching the couple they were there for. Vision was lying on the ground, leaning against the railing and Wanda was crouching next to him, holding his hand.
“Can you stand?” Sam questioned the android before he even got to them. Natasha and Steve were right behind him.
And then she saw her. She dyed her hair. It wasn’t brown anymore. It was a light shade of red, more like ginger even. A strawberry red, is that what they call it?
She swapped black dresses and knee high socks for more comfortable jeans and a long cardigan. Natasha’s heart skipped a beat. She looked good and she hadn't even seen her properly.
Sam and Wanda were helping the injured android on his feet now. That’s when the younger woman first turned her head around and their eyes locked. For just a split second. Natasha could see fear and panic. She could also see the long slash above Wanda’s eye, just a bit lower and she would have lost it…
She couldn’t look at her. She turned around, pretending to be checking their surroundings.
—----
They made it on the jet. She let one of the men fly back. She didn’t care anymore. She wanted to be around Wanda, despite her best judgement. She knew she shouldn’t. She knew she should get back into the pilot seat, as far away from the woman as possible. But she couldn’t. Something morbid and self destructive forced her to be around her. To be around the woman who entered her dreams every night. She was finally there, within reach, she could touch her, she could smell her perfume.
Yet she still couldn’t have her.
Because the woman was in love with someone else.
Natasha stood by the closing door as they were taking off, watching the disappearing lights of the scottish city underneath them.
“I thought,” she started as the door closed, “we had a deal. Stay close, check in,” she snarled that between her teeth, “don’t take any chances.” She turned around. She had to get away.
“Sorry…” Wanda said weakly. “We just wanted time,” her voice was shaking. She was sitting next to Vision, holding on to him like that could fix him.
Natasha didn’t even look at her. She couldn’t. It hurt. It hurt because that’s what she wanted. Time. Time with the woman. Away. She wanted what Vision had. Time with the woman who made her heart jump, away from everyone, away from all the fighting.
She walked past Steve, ignoring the look he was giving her. He didn’t say anything. He knew her better than that, he knew there was no point. He could see she was upset. He just raised his eyebrow slightly, it was a question really. Are you okay? But he knew he wasn’t going to get an answer.
So she stormed off, joining Sam at the front for a while. They sat in silence, him focusing on flying and Natasha lost in her thoughts.
She got restless after about an hour and went back into the main part of the jet. Wanda was still in the same position.
Natasha sighed. She pulled out the first aid kit and walked over to her, sitting right next to her on the bench.
“Let me clean that up for you,” she said softly with a sad smile as she pointed at the nasty cut on Wanda’s face. It was a peace offering.
Wanda nodded and turned around to give her better access. She let go of Vision’s hand for the first time.
“You were lucky,” Natasha said as she gently dabbed disinfection on the wound, making sure it wouldn’t get infected.
“Yeah,” Wanda smiled at her. “Yeah, I guess I was.” She hissed when the alcohol in it made it into the cut.
“Sorry,” the blonde said. “Pain only makes us stronger,” she added, her face turning into a painful smirk.
Wanda’s eyes looked at her closely, inspecting her, like she was looking for something.
“Are you okay?” She asked when she didn’t figure it out.
“Of course,” Natasha replied, looking down, quickly busying herself with the butterfly stitches. If that were true, she would be the strongest person alive because pain was the only thing she felt.
When she looked up, Wanda was still looking at her, her lips in a thin line, clearly not believing her but decided against pressing her.
Natasha quickly placed a few of the stitches along the cut, carefully pressing it to her skin. Her fingers lingered over the spot for a bit, aching for more. She wanted to trace her face, to feel the soft skin, to hold her cheek in her hand, to pull her closer. Her eyes flicked to Wanda’s lips for a second.
Instead, she just pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear.
“There. You’ll be perfect again soon enough.”
Wanda’s cheeks coloured with a light shade of red as she dropped her eyes shyly and played with her hair.
“Thank you,” she said quietly, giving Natasha a genuine smile.
There it was again.
Pain.
Pain in her chest, like a million needles stabbing her heart.
A smile she longed for yet at the same time it was the cause of her heartache.
—-----
They made it into the Avengers tower. She pushed her feelings away, away into a box, deep down.
There was no time for this. The world was in danger and they had a job to do. That’s what she had to focus on. Not on the redhead woman wearing ripped jeans that fit her impossibly well.
They found Rhodey on a call with Ross, of course. Seeing that man, even if he was just a hologram, cheered her up. She did enjoy insulting him a bit too much.
She could feel Wanda’s eyes bearing into the back of her head.
No.
Rhodey.
That’s what she had to focus on. She was happy to see the man after all, so much so that she went in for a hug.
“Wow… You guys really look like crap,” he said after looking at all of them.
Wanda looks beautiful, she wanted to say. But she didn’t. She focused on his face instead.
“Must’ve been a rough couple of years,” he added and Natasha’s head spun around to look at the rest of her group.
“I think you look great,” a new voice made her turn back. Of course.
Of course he would be here, he was the one who called them after all.
“Bruce,” she said, still slightly surprised.
“Yeah…I’m back. Nat,” he greeted her, singling her out of the group.
“Now this is awkward,” Sam whispered to Steve.
She sighed and turned away.
Great.
Now that’s a party.
—---------
They were discussing what to do with the stone. That was what Thanos wanted after all, not Vision.
Bruce, as the resident scientist now that Tony was flung into space, explained to them as best as he could what the stone meant and why Thanos might possibly want it.
“Well then, we have to protect it,” Natasha said, her voice not leaving any space for arguing.
As much as she didn’t care for Vision himself, she did care for the world and humanity and it was her job to protect it.
And, even though it pained her to admit it to herself, she cared about Wanda. And Wanda cared about Vision so she was going to do everything in her power to make sure that man was okay. The last thing she wanted was to see Wanda heartbroken because she lost someone, again.
“No, we have to destroy it,” Vision said. Everyone looked at him. They didn’t have to be scientists to know what it would mean, what it would mean for him.
She could feel the panic from Wanda when he said it. When he even just touched the subject of how the stone would have to be destroyed.
Natasha’s heart broke for that woman.
She knew Wanda was powerful. But she didn’t realise that the only thing capable of destroying the soul stone in Vision’s head was the woman who loved him.
Oh God.
This couldn’t be, could it?
Maybe it didn’t have to be that way. Bruce jumped in, explaining Vision’s mind. If they managed to remove the stone, Wanda wouldn’t have to kill him…
“Can we do that?” Natasha asked, hope in her voice. She knew she had no chance with the woman. But that didn’t mean she didn’t want her to be happy, even if that hurt. Because seeing Wanda happy hurt less than seeing her in pain.
“Not here, not me,” Bruce shook his head.
She could feel the weight immediately return to her chest.
—------------------
They were on their way to Wakanda.
Wanda and Vision were sitting together, Vision still hurt from the alien blade. Everyone else was preparing for a battle that was sure to come.
Natasha watched them from the corner of her eye.
They have been attached to each other the whole time. It was understandable, really. An alien was after something that was essentially powering Vision and keeping him alive which in itself would cause a lot of worry and anxiety not only in him but Wanda as well. And as a result of a, potential, success, half of the universe would just… disappear.
“Hey,” Wanda suddenly appeared by Natasha. She sat down next to her, in the corner, hidden from everyone else.
“Hey,” Natasha was surprised to see her. She quickly looked at Vision but he looked like he was sleeping, if that was even possible.
They sat there in silence for a moment, neither of them sure what to say next.
“I like your vest,” Wanda pointed to her newest suit addition.
“Thanks,” Natasha smiled, smoothing it down. “It was a gift. It has a lot of pockets,” she said, looking up at the other woman with almost a child-like excitement in her eyes.
“Yeah?” Wanda smiled back at her. “Must be a special someone for you to wear it on a mission.”
“She is very special,” she smiled, looking into the distance for a second, “she’s family.”
“Oh. I didn’t realise you had…” The younger woman trailed off. She wasn’t sure how to finish it. She didn’t want to sound like she assumed Natasha was all alone in the world. She also didn’t want it to sound like she was surprised Natasha had family.
“Neither did I. But I guess life is full of surprises, isn’t it,” she brushed it off.
“Yes,” Wanda nodded, taking the hint that this was all she was getting, at least now.
They sat in silence again, unsure of what to say. They didn’t used to have this problem. But that’s probably what happens when you spend two years on the run, away from each other, only reuniting when the world is about the end.
“How are you holding up?” Natasha finally said, carefully watching Wanda’s face, looking out for any sign she was about to lie.
But she didn’t lie. There was no point. Instead, she looked at Vision before she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
“I’m not,” it was barely a whisper, a very shaky one.
Natasha wasn’t surprised. She didn’t expect anything less. She didn’t know what to say, what to do. She wished she could say that it would all be okay, that everything will be fine, they’ll fix Vision in Wakanda and defeat Thanos and live happily ever after.
She wanted to brush Wanda’s hair out of her face and wrap her arms around her and hold her until there wasn’t a single threat in the world.
She wanted to feel her soft skin and smell her shampoo, let her long hair tickle her face and kiss the cut that was still on her forehead.
But she didn’t.
She couldn’t.
Instead, she squeezed her hand.
Nothing else. Because there was nothing she could do, nothing she could say that would make her feel better, that would change anything.
So they just sat there, Natasha still holding her hand.
Until the younger woman broke the silence.
“Thank you. I really appreciate it… I don’t know what I would do without you,” she smiled at her, tears in her eyes.
Natasha didn’t say anything. She was sure her voice would betray her. Her insides were screaming at her in pain.
So close.
Yet so far.
And then Wanda let go of her hand and leaned forward. Before she could do anything about it, Wanda’s arms were wrapped around her in a tight hug.
Natasha gave in. She squeezed back. She nuzzled her face in the soft red hair. The smell of lavender that was so unmistakably Wanda filled her senses and made her feel dizzy.
She held tight on to her. Because what does it matter if they were going to die anyway.
She could feel Wanda pull away after a while. She looked at her with pain in her eyes. A different kind of pain, different than there was before.
It was like slow motion. Natasha could see her lift her hand. She could feel it on her face as she pushed her short blonde hair aways from her face.
“Oh Nat…” She whispered. A tear spilled out of her eyes. “I’m so sorry,” her hand was still cupping Natasha’s face, as if to say something her words couldn’t.
Natasha wasn’t confused. She knew. She knew what Wanda just realised. She could feel tears burning in her own eyes.
“Touching down in 2 minutes,” someone yelled.
“It’s okay,” the older woman whispered with a sad smile. She turned her head and placed a kiss into Wanda’s palm before she wiped her tears off and got up to prepare for landing.

Birthday
Pairings: The Avengers x  reader
Summary:
It’s your birthday and the team gets creative on how to surprise you, putting their acting skills to the test.
Word count: 2,350
A/n: just a little something because,, well,, it’s my birthday *runs away* also it’s cheesy, hopefully it makes sense lmao
Warnings: uhhh brief mention of explosion? mostly fluff
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Avengers wanted to get creative for your birthday this year. For the few years they've known you they picked up on things about you. One, you paid no mind to your birthday at all and just considered it a normal day like the rest of the 365, Tony took note that you hated parties, at least the really big ones, something that involved only the team would be good.
Okay, you sound like a party pooper, but that isn't the case; it's not a crime to just... not want to have a grand celebration, right? And people singing the 'happy birthday' song to you too while you just sit there in silence. It's awkward, you once told Natasha. It’s also awkward and hard for you to receive presents even though that’s what birthdays are all about, you’re still getting used to it since you knew someone like Tony Stark.
Well, the team think you're an amazing friend and they all treat you like family. They're so glad they met someone like you.
You're immediately called to the conference room on that day. Only to find the team arguing and pointing fingers at one another.
You kinda just slot in, sitting on the chair you usually sit on whenever there's a meeting or mission briefing. Glancing around, you try and find out what they're fighting about.
Security. Suits. Brief mention of Ultron. Rhodey busying himself with phones, probably making a lot of calls. Natasha and Clint talking among themselves, only raising their voice whenever they're included in the conversation which mainly consisted of Tony and Steve arguing.
"Suit up, get the jet ready." Steve dismisses but before he could walk out himself you raise your hand.
"Hey, sorry, I just woke up," you say sheepishly but coolly at the same time. "What happened, is everyone supposed to go? Can I read the file?" Because if this is an Avengers-level threat that required everyone, you'd want to know all about it.
His sharp and expression softens slightly when he looks at you. "No file, I'm afraid. Some of the compound's security protocols have been compromised, someone hacked in." He proceeds to tell you how they particularly had interest in Bruce and Tony's lab so the other rooms were untouched.
Apparently, they took blueprints and materials, maybe a handful of Tony's suits.
But if you think about it, those two carelessly letting the security to their lab loose? Highly unlikely...
You push the thought to the back of your mind and nod when Steve tells you to get ready. Stark tech can be dangerous in the wrong hands, after all. Let alone the Iron Man suits.
Fortunately, those things have trackers. Leaving you to wonder again why those idiots don't even try and take them off so they won't tracked?
Sat on the floor of the jet while everyone was strangely quiet but once again you didn't pay any mind, you sharpen a few of your knives. Natasha sat on a stool near you, idly picking her nails. An hour into the flight you furrow your brows and look around.
"Are you guys okay?"
"Yes," Tony states quickly and a matter-of-factly. They all share glances before he continued. "It's the tension. Sorry. My fault."
"It's not your fault, Tony," Bruce starts.
"I'm sorry, to whom were those stolen suits again?" Steve speaks up as well and you could tell it's gonna be a full blown argument again.
"Now hold on just a second-" Tony faces the super soldier to counter.
You merely blink, not expecting a simple question to turn out like this. Clint just glances from the pilot's seat and Natasha almost cracks a smile by the look of your face. If only you knew it was all fake, all planned. But what does she know? You're a spy too, maybe you've figured out what they're up to and decided to play along.
Sad to say you're still oblivious. Maybe the fact that you only slept three hours last night is one case. You wanted nothing more than your bed right now.
Heck, not one of them wished you a happy birthday but you didn't notice at all.
Tuning out their bickering you sit down next to Natasha who's the only one not in the argument.
"I haven't seen Wanda all day," you say and she turns her head to face you. "Or Sam, or Bucky."
"Probably not back from their mission." Natasha answers promptly.
You frown at that. "Steve made this sound like an Avengers-level threat, and it is, shouldn't they be here?"
You don't wait for a response, opening up a globe-shaped hologram that shows where the jet, represented by a blinking dot. Your eyes slightly widen when you see the target location which is one of the places you've been dying to visit your whole life.
Maybe it's just a coincidence. You definitely didn't expect to visit it for the first time on a mission though.
Natasha clears her throat. "Hey, have you read the book I gave you?" She subtly closes the globe up when she catches your attention.
You shake your head bashfully. "You know I'm a slow reader. Give me two months then I'll come back to you." You laugh. Natasha smiles and tells you to take your time. "Have you read the book I gave you?"
"I loved it."
"I knew you would!" You say excitedly and the next few moments you discuss about the specific book. She's just glad you didn't ask any further questions about the location.
--
All of you split up once you reach the base but Rhodey and Bruce stay in the jet as backup. The place reminded you so much of the old Avengers tower, only with darker themes. You're paired with Clint who you follow to the side of the building, with surprisingly no cautiousness. He just... ran in, entrance deserted of guards.
You all had a digital, tech checklist to see what was stolen including all the suit names. So far you've searched two drawers now and still no sign of any agent or guard. But it's weird since the others are clearly doing their part on their floors. Thuds, footsteps and sometimes banging sounds could be heard all around.
“Finally," you mutter when you hear footsteps behind you, spinning around so suddenly to surprise your enemy and take him down with ease. You raise an eyebrow when they don't put up a fight at all.
Clint was in front of a computer when you peek in to one of the rooms but he waves you off. "I'll meet you on the next floor. This'll take a second."
"One suit on the roof!" you hear Steve grunt through your earpiece.
"Remember to remove the arc reactor, that'll shut them down for sure." Bruce reminds through everyone's comms.
You hear Tony let out a noise. "Might have a problem with that, Banner, they're all reprogrammed."
Expecting the man with seven Ph. D's to worry, it only took him a minute to respond back. "It's your tech. I don't believe they could do that completely especially having them for only twelve hours."
"In that case," Tony sighs. "There should be a kill switch under one of their reactors."
"Which one?" Natasha grunts.
The deafening silence from Tony's line explains it.
You fight your way though the thugs which again, don't put up a fight. Sometimes you throw one punch and they're out cold, leading you to believe the intense training Bucky insisted you do worked. The only tough ones were the Iron Man suits themselves.
Ripping out the arc reactors wasn't easy. You had to use all you force. On the second one you encounter it got the upper hand and blasts you through a wall, the impact sending sharp pain to your head and back.
You hear metal thumping of a suit so you get back up and attempt to get your hands on the Iron Man in front of you.
"Hey, hey. Same team. Look," Tony grips on your wrists and lifts his mask up. "You alright?"
“Yeah," you pant, relaxing a bit. "Yeah. One of them got m-"
"We just discovered a bomb, northwest," Clint says. By ‘we’ he means him and Natasha. The redhead speaks right after. “Two and a half minutes. How many suits left, Friday?”
"Only one more suit is fully functional."
You get out of Tony's hold and sprint up the stairs. "I got it."
He smiles to himself. The plan is all coming  to place.
As soon as you enter the room you dodge a blast from the much bulkier Mark XVI. Of course they'd want to make the stealth suit more powerful. You launch yourself towards it, stomping on an arm while trying to dodge blasts from the the other one.
"Y/N! Fifty seconds!" Steve shouts in your earpiece.
You could've just jumped out, leaving the compromised suits here to be blown up but being under pressure made you panic and set your only goal to find the switch.
The suit could still set off a blast from the arc reactor so you couldn't really get your hands on it without losing a freaking arm.
"Get out of there!”
But you didn’t have enough time. So you just curl into a ball against the wall, accepting your fate.
A pop did go off. Loud, but you didn't feel yourself torn into pieces right after. You also heard a bunch of aye’s and oh’s. Redwing whirs by to your head to drop off a birthday hat.
"Happy Birthday!”
Your eyes fly open. Turns out the only thing inside Mark XVI was confetti. Natasha walks over to you to inspect and make sure you're alright.
"What the hell?" Your eyes widen at her, then at everyone. Sam and Bucky were now standing with them, smiling at you amused.
"I think she's in shock.”
“You think?”
Steve glares at Tony with a hint of amusement. "I told you it would be too much."
"Trust me she prefers something like this instead of a big party. Don't you, Y/N?"
"What do you mean?" You take off the hat and clutch it between your hands, appreciating Natasha rubbing your back as you try to collect yourself. "How is none of this real?"
"We basically faked a mission for you." Rhodey says.
You look around all the rubble. "This building, the people, suits-"
"Bought the place," Tony states. "Hired stuntmen, did a few tweaks on the suits...”
"God, why would you do that?" You bury your face in your hands, not knowing if you should be laughing or crying. "I punched those guys!"
"They'll be fine, they signed up for it."
You gently get up and brush off some confetti off your knees.
"But back at the compound... you guys were yelling at each other and during the whole thing you all sounded serious," you point out. "Was that all part of the act?"
Especially when that 'bomb' was about to go off. Steve's panicked voice made you scared for your life, only to know that it was all fake.
They all show signs of agreement, laughing.
"We'd make such great actors." Natasha smirks.
"Alright, the cake isn't going to blow itself." Clint walks up to you with said cake and you meet him halfway.
Everyone gathers around and before they could inhale to sing the stupid song, you cut them off. "You all know I hate to be sung at. Can we just get this over with?"
They all burst out laughing, you giggle in the process, blowing out your candle. You all group hug right after. The laughter makes you miss the sound of faint thunder outside.
"Look who's late." Bruce points out.
"Yes, I got here as soon as I can, my apologies." Thor smiles sheepishly.
Your ears perk up at the all too familiar voice of the god of thunder. Moving everyone of the way, you leap to hug him. "Thor!"
"Happy birthday, dearest Y/N." He grins and pats you on the head. "I'm afraid my - I mean - our gift, is with Loki at the moment."
"Enough with the formality, I’m just glad you’re here.”
Peter rings up Tony to tell him everything's set up at the huge building they rented for your low-key party. Just the Avengers. Peter, Vision and Wanda were in charge of setting things up over there, from decorations and food. Sam and Bucky also helped a bit before they arrived at the fake base.
So you all get into the jet again, this time you look at the windows in awe to see what the city's like. You also asked a bunch of questions on how they pulled something stupid but unique fake mission like that.
Once you've reached your destination, the place was simple yet big enough to fit everyone. Tony really took notes for this year. You didn't like anything too fancy or elegant, and you didn't like huge-ass parties with hundreds of people you've never met before.
Here you're with your family eating, drinking booze and playing games, generally having a good time.
You give the other five Avengers big hugs. Vision's never usually a hugger but for you he made an exception just for today. Everyone was surprised when he lifted you off your feet and spun you around.
"Hugging has a lot of good benefits," Vision says when he lets you go. "Astounding, I know. It is recommended eight times a day, hopefully you've already gotten that much."
You giggle at his remark and Wanda rolls her eyes playfully. “Thank you, Vision.”
“Splendid, that means I don’t have to give you one.”
You turn around to see the god of mischief himself carefully hand you a wrapped box. Loki chuckles when you smile at him. “Happiest Birthday.”
“Loki.... you know you and Thor didn’t have to-”
“Thor? That one’s from me. I assure you.”
“Y/N!” You hear Tony call from the other side of the room. “It’s time for presents, little miss. Good lord this looks like Christmas morning.”

hi! hope you're doing well :) do you have any domestic!cherik fics? or established relationship ones?
Hi anon, thanks for the ask. I'm doing very well, been super busy because I'm currently moving but it's all good. I have plenty of great domestic/established relationship cherik fics for you. I hope you enjoy!!
Domestic/Established Relationship cherik
Daycare ‘Verse’ – orphan_account, pocky_slash
Summary: A modern AU in which Charles runs a mutant daycare and Erik is his long-suffering engineer boyfriend.
Runs in the Family – Anonysquirrel (chibirisuchan)
Summary: Alex knew his own reputation. Hell, he'd started some of his own reputation, because it kept some of the smarter thugs off his back. Everyone knew Alex's reputation. There was no way Hank didn't know his reputation, but he'd brought Alex into a house with some really expensive things and a lot of innocent little kids and his too-friendly, too-harmless dad.
But clearly Hank hadn't told his family anything about Alex, just like he hadn't told Alex anything about his family. At least, not about the brain-breaking parts of his family.
"I didn't know where to start," Hank said, for the dozenth time.
Gift of the Magi, But Screw it Up – librata
Summary: He doesn't know if he's buying too much, too little, or even the right things at all, because he's never entertained a guest as important as Edie Lehnsherr.
Making perfect – aesc
Summary: As is the case with most trials in Erik's life, this one starts with Charles gazing beseechingly at him and asking him for a favor. Not that their going-on-three years relationship is a trial, even though it started with Charles giving Erik the full benefit of sad blue eyes and asking him if he wouldn't mind opening his car door since he'd locked his keys inside, but still.
Continue firm and constant – aesc
Summary: Moira hasn't seen her old partner in saving the world from threats human and intergalactic, Erik Lehnsherr, for a few years. When she finally does see him again, she finds a man different from the one who's been with her down in the dark and the dirt and the blood... or maybe he isn't so different after all.
After School Special – listerinezero
Summary: Charles was barely seventeen and Erik was his social studies teacher. But after almost fifteen years together, does it really matter how they met?
Terrifying Domesticity – ishipitsobad
Summary: Erik is the most dangerous and notorious mafia boss around for miles, and yet the strangest things terrify him.
For example: his children, and his very pregnant mate.
Trying is Half the Battle – Pookaseraph
Summary: Post-Cuba, no divorce, Charles and Erik are in an established relationship and when Charles gets sick with a random flu bug, they discover that Charles can get pregnant. They then try to get pregnant, and try, and try.
We’ll all be gone for the summer – pocky_slash
Summary: Charles and Erik's usual family beach vacation gets a little bigger when they agree to watch Erik's teenaged twins for the summer. Charles is looking forward to a chance to bond with his step-children. Erik is terrified of screwing them up even more.
A Summer Day So Late in Coming – helens78
Summary: Fifty years after they fell in love, Erik comes to Charles with a proposal that rocks Charles's world.
Still Going Strong – JackyJango
Summary: Speaking of forty-eight, Erik hates it. Hates it even more that others are aware of it. While he’s pragmatic enough to know and accept that aging is inexorable, the increase in number gives the people around him the freedom to pounce at him with questions, opinions and advice he'd fought to keep at bay all year.
Besides, Erik believes that youth is a state of mind, not a phase in one’s life.
You have a child’s mind in a man’s body, Charles constantly tells him.
But despite his age, Erik is healthy. He works out daily. His muscles are steel and he can dead-lift four hundred pounds. He can break bones without breaking a sweat. Most importantly, he can still carry Charles to the bedroom and fuck him senseless. And as long as Erik can do that, he’s perfectly happy.
Before You Attempt Me (Fair Warning) – kianspo
Summary: Charles helps Raven get ready for the prom. Surprisingly, that part goes well. The prom itself not so much. Erik cooks a lot of unhealthy comfort foods and is incredibly patient. Charles mostly frets about everything, until Erik does something neither he, nor Raven see coming.
And now you will not be alone any more – pocky_slash
Summary: Erik gives driving, sewing, and cooking lessons, soothes nightmares, bolsters self-esteem, and still can't figure out why Charles keeps smiling at him like that.
Some sense of touch and a melody – pocky_slash
Summary: On a day when Charles, for once, finds himself saying the right thing to everyone he sees, he allows himself to be talked into a field trip to a local orchard.
It’s kind of our whole thing – pearl_o, pocky_slash
Summary: After two years of best friendship, Charles and Erik thought they knew everything there was to know about each other. They're surprised, then, when their first summer as a couple reveals that they have a lot to learn about each other and themselves.
Indulgence – grim_lupine
Summary: “The children are still asleep,” Charles murmurs groggily, flinging an arm out as if searching for Erik beside him. “The house is still standing, this is a ghastly hour, and more importantly, I’m still here. Why do you insist on doing this every morning?”
Your Father’s Daughter – ConsultingWriter
Summary: Wanda proves just how much she takes after Erik.
Pietro reeled back before leaning back in "They didn't tell you what happened? Wanda got in a fist fight and totally wailed on this guy, I mean, on one hand I feel kinda embarrassed for him, but it was so epic."
Erik's eyebrows shot to his hairline. Wanda got in a fight? That was....surprising, to say the least. Wanda tended to take after Charles in temperament and preferred talking to violence.
This Crazy Game Called Life – chiasmus
Summary: Raven declares game night in the mansion. Sean finds an elephant, Erik inherits one hundred unwanted cats, and Charles scars Hank for life with misdirected dirty thinking. This is five thousand-something words of crack with a dose of schmoop. I'm not sorry. Written for this kink meme prompt: Raven is tired of the boys going off to play chess (if they're even playing chess!) and pulls out a load of board games from one of the closets in the mansion. Madness ensues.
To my roomba with love – sareyen
Summary: There are a lot of things that Erik loves about Charles. He loves all of the obvious things; Charles’s kindness, his intelligence, his laughter, his eyes. He also loves the little private things; the way Charles sneaks Erik his unwanted tomatoes, his warbled opera singing in the shower, that sensitive spot on his hip.
And he loves the silly things about Charles, especially the way the man has a habit of talking to inanimate objects when he thinks no one is looking. Charles has conversations with the kettle, the washing machine, and their roomba – and every time Erik eavesdrops on him, he falls in love with the man a little bit more.
Everything About it is a Love Song – pocky_slash
Summary: Erik's spent fifty years being a figurehead and he's ready to leave that behind. Luckily, so is Charles.
(aka Old Retired Dudes in Love)
A Very Xavier-Lehnsherr Christmas – zamwessell
Summary: Erik is discovering new things about Charles Xavier all the time. Charles sometimes talks in his sleep. Often about food. Occasionally in Latin. Charles has a scar on his left thigh from attempting to demonstrate relativity to a girl by sitting on a hot stove. Charles doesn’t mean to be so loud when they make love, but sometimes Charles can’t help himself.
Charles is a voracious reader. Charles has an unspeakably filthy imagination. Charles will try anything in bed twice to make sure he wasn’t wrong the first time.
Charles is unexpectedly fond of Christmas. Perhaps that is not the phrase. “Unhealthily obsessed” might be better.
The fluffiest holiday fluff you ever read in your dang life.
Of Crabs and Castles – flightinflame
Summary: Charles and Erik take their children to the beach. Wanda builds a sandcastle, Nina makes some friends, and Pietro gets some exercise. Some family fun in the sunshine.
Bring Your Daughter To Work Day – listerinezero
Summary: Charles brings three year old Lorna to class with him.
Glasses – grim_lupine
Summary: Charles blinks at him bemusedly, but Erik barely notices because Charles is wearing glasses— wire-rimmed, and Erik can feel the metal humming, traces without touch the way they follow the curve of Charles’s nose and rest behind his ears.
Genetics Isn’t Sexy – pocky_slash
Summary: Charles lectures. The kids aren't very responsive. Erik, on the other hand....
Peanut Butter and Honey (The Fairytale Remix) – pocky_slash
Summary: Once upon a time there was a Princess named Anya who lived in a house with her Daddy and her wicked stepmother Charles. (A wicked stepmother is the person who comes and lives with princesses and their daddies after their mommies go away.) She had a best friend named Leroy, and one day he was lost.
The Bystander (The Consultant (aka A Westchester Telepath in the Avengers Tower) Remix) – Nanimok
Summary: When it comes to Professor Charles Xavier, telepath, SHIELD consultant and compulsive flirt, no one is safe.
Not even the Big Three.

It started with a cold. Just a couple of sneezes, a runny nose, and a sore throat...the usual.
It started out with you trying your best to hide it. Hide the sickness. That plan went under the moment Natasha heard you sneeze during training... she had you confessing to your sins much too quickly.
Suffice to say she immediately kicked you out of the training area with demands to take some medicine.
So she was the first to realize that you were sick, and she was the first to realize you were getting worse instead of better. She’d pester you endlessly when you wouldn’t want to talk about it, and watch over you like a hawk.
It was sweet, but you also didn’t think it was necessary. You were sure you’d be fine in three or so days.
How wrong you were.
When you wake up with a 103° fever for the third day in a row it has you layed in bed for the whole day groaning about the inequalities of the world, and begging Natasha not to get a doctor for the 100th time.
You were fine. Totally fine.
Natasha watches you with a mix of amusement and concern from the corner of the room and suggests, gently, that maybe you’re not.
You peak over your covers to glare at her in something like betrayal. “I’d be fine if you’d stop pacing and come cuddle with me.”
She seems to think about her options for a long moment and right when you think she’s going to reject you she relents with a heavy sigh and gets into the bed.
She’s so blissfully cold it has you snuggling into her side immediately, both to warm her up and use her as your own personal ice pack.
“You’re burning up,” Natasha whispers, but she pulls you closer to her—like somehow if she’s close enough she can absorb some of your pain and make you feel just that little bit better. “If your fever rises even a little bit we’re going to the doctors, okay?”
She’s concerned and worried, and even though a stranger fussing over you is the last thing you want you know you have to give her this.
As soon as you nod your head in agreement some of the tension seeps out of her body, much to your relief. As ridiculous as it is, you’re worried about her worried about you—if that makes sense.
“Around 100,000 people died from the flu in 2019,” Natasha mumbles against your forehead. She adds quietly after a moment, “just in case you were wondering.”
You were not wondering. What the fuck.
“Nat...that statistic is mostly old people.”
“Yeah,” Nat agrees, “you’ll be fine.”
And despite your body's protest, and how much of a pain it is to pull away, you do, just so you can give Natasha an incredulous look so she knows just what you think about what she’s doing right now.
Her face is unexpectedly vulnerable when you see it. She isn’t trying to bother you...she’s just…she’s worrying herself crazy.
“Nat,” you sigh, ready to embark on the most comforting and articulate speech you can think of, but a sudden fit of coughs has you turning away hurriedly to muffle your face in a pillow.
When your lungs finally decide to stay in your body for now, and Natasha stops rubbing your back, you’re too tired to try and comfort her, so instead you mumble, on the verge of sleep, “if I die; just know I love you.”
Which, in hindsight, probably doesn’t help much.
But she doesn’t sound worried when she replies, just exasperated and fond. “I love you, too.”
———-
When you wake up again it’s to a bunch of kisses and beautiful red hair.
“Stop attacking me,” you grumble, trying to push her away, but you're not able to hide your smile. God, you love your badass (soft) girlfriend.
“Look who's not dead!”
Remembering your last words to her before you went to sleep has you finally opening your eyes and giving Nat a sheepish smile. Oops. “Look who really wants to get sick…”
“My immune system is stronger than yours,” Natasha scoffs, shoving both your medicine at you and a bottle of water.
“Asshole,” you mumble, moving to open the medicine bottle only to get stopped by a hand on your wrist. “What?”
“You need to eat first.”
Thus, starts the trip towards death.
————
“Oh my god, how much farther is it…”
Your fever is finally down and back to safer levels so naturally Natasha has insisted that you’re able to go to the kitchens yourself and sit outside to eat.
You need fresh air, she said.
The room is getting stuffy, she said.
It’ll be good for you, she said.
What a fucking devil.
“You’re literally the most dramatic person to ever grace this earth,” Natasha tells you for only the millionth time since the journey began. “Maybe if you stopped sliding against the wall and crawling on the floor like you got shot three times we’d get there faster.”
“Maybe if you’d help me—”
“I tried! But apparently i’m ruining your image.” She rolls her eyes when she says that, then turns away to grin like she thinks you won’t notice.
You’re a whipped idiot who's decided to make a complete full of yourself and waste what little energy you have just to get your girlfriend to laugh, and to prove to her that you’re doing better.
You’re definitely going to regret this later, but now, in the moment; This is totally worth it. No doubt.
————
Wanda is in the kitchen.
As soon as you see her you straighten up and stop leaning on the wall (and limping). Natasha laughs next to you when she notices.
“You’re doing better, Y/N?” Wanda asks, glancing over you before returning back to the soup she’s making. For you. She’s making soup for you.
You adore her. She’s your favorite person, she’s—
“Not your girlfriend,” Wanda interjects, amused, “and doing this as a concerned teammate, and because your girlfriend asked.”
“Yes, well I love you anyways. Your cooking has gotten very good,” you say, shooting her a grin while you practically bounce to the dining chair, in stark contrast to the way you were dragging yourself down the halls.
Natasha does a good job at trying to not look confused, but she clearly is. Unfortunately, or fortunately, Wanda informs her before you get the chance to.
“Favorite person for making you soup?” Natasha asks once Wanda’s done relaying your thoughts. She narrows her eyes at you then. “Not the person who has been taking care of you since you became an avenger, not the person who—”
“It’s very good soup, Nat.”
“Very,” Steve agrees from the living room.
Natasha sighs, takes a sniff of the soup, and resigns herself to the facts she’s faced with. “Yeah...it is.”
——-
“Close your mouth,” Natasha orders, tapping your chin. You listen, waiting patiently for the beep of the thermometer to signal it’s done.
When it does, Natasha pulls it back to study it. There’s a small lapse of anxious silence before Natasha reveals the results. Then...“Ninety-Nine. You’re officially a healthy woman.”
And with that, you’re finally free of the bed rest and able to walk the halls as a newly restored human being.
“I’m free,” you shout, tackling Natasha onto the bed and kissing her all over her face, completely overjoyed. “Natasha, I survived!”
You survived. It only took an exhausting week. When your fever went down a couple of days ago it spiked to 105° a bit after and you were sure you were going to suffocate in Natasha’s worry because of it. You had to go to the medical room...it was awful.
But now Nat laughs, and laughs, and then pulls you into a tight hug to stop all of the kissing. She seems to be unburdened and lighter now that she finally has the numbers she’s wanted.
“Loving you as much as I do is really just living in this constant state of worry and fear,” Natasha says when you’ve both settled down. “I do not like things being out of my control,” she admits, kissing the crown of your head. “Especially when it involves my heart.”
“Your heart,” you repeat, curious. “Is that what I am?”
“Ignoring the worry and fear part?” Natasha teases, quirking an eyebrow.
“We both know those feelings are accompanied with a multitude of good and beautiful emotions. I feel them too.”
Natasha smiles then, soft and gentle, and full of admiration. “Yes.”
You tilt your head. “Yes...what?”
“Yes, you are my heart. Or at least you feel like you are.”
At that, with a determination and seriousness that visibly shocks Natasha you say, “i’ll protect it. I’ll protect myself, and because you're mine also, I'll help protect you. Always.”
“Always,” Natasha agrees, her fingertips trailing across your cheek. “Thank you, Y/N.”
“Yeah,” you mumble, embarrassed suddenly, “of course.”
————
“Are...are you serious?”
Natasha scowls into her tea and says nothing in response. This is fucking hilarious.
Your lovely girlfriend doesn’t seem to think so because the second she sees your face struggling not to laugh she begins glaring at you. “Don’t,” Nat warns. “Don’t you fucking dare—”
“I seem to recall you saying, and I quote, ‘my immune system is stronger than yours.’” You grin. “Oh how ironic this is.”
“I’m not sick—”
“Aw, but baby, the amount of tissues on the floor seem to be saying otherwise,” you gesture towards the growing pile, feeling absolutely no sympathy until Natasha glances at the pile with a sigh of defeat. She looks so small and sad covered in her pile of blankets...it simply won’t do. “Don’t fret, my love. I will take care of you, just as you took care of me,” you assure her, leaning down to kiss her forehead.
“First things first,” you tilt her chin up, “i’ll get Wanda to make you some soup so you can take some medicine.”
“I hate the world,” Natasha grumbles, mumbling some curses in russian.
“I love you, too.”

Love Outside of Sitcoms
Summary: when things go wrong on a mission you need the help of both Bucky and Wanda to help get you back on your feet (aunt Wanda)
Warnings: blaming yourself for something and tickling
Words: 1.5k
Pairings: talk of Peter Parker x reader
...........................................
The dark sky of New York did not feel much different than the inside of your brain. Dark, and dull and just a little bit cloudy. You’re most recent mission hadn’t gone as well as you had hoped. It was supposed to be a quick and simple mission. Grab a certain person for intel from a warehouse. It was fairly easily accessed and you, Bucky, and Peter, managed to slip past their security without a snag. But as you were grabbing the man you needed for information, a rogue guard came around the corner of the door you were supposed to be keeping watch at. You panicked and he quickly flew up in the air before harshly hitting the ground. But as did everyone else in the room. Luckily, Bucky and Peter had quick enough reflexes that they managed to brace themselves before they hit the ground. But the agent you were there for was not quite as lucky, he was currently in the med bay, he would live, but he had several broken bones.
You had managed to avoid almost everyone so far the day of, and you didn’t feel much like seeing anyone today either. You knew you had let them down. But, you knew that eventually your hunger would take over, so you planned to head up to the kitchen when you were certain no one would be there.
Around two o’clock, you snuck out of your bedroom and into an elevator. You saw no one on your way up, and as you peeked into the kitchen floor you realized the coast was clear. You made your way over to the pots and pans to pull out a skillet, only to turn around and be face to face with Bucky. You went to whack him with the pan but you stopped halfway when you realized it was him.
“Relax I just want to talk,” he chuckled. You lightly set the pan down on the stove. You gestured for him to continue.
“You know it’s not your fault for what happened yesterday right?” he asked cautiously.
“How is it not my fault? I was the one who lost control of my powers, and made it everyone else’s problem,” you said solemnly.
Bucky sighed. “Y/n you can’t think like that, everyone makes mistakes. Besides, you just got your powers a couple months ago, you can’t expect to be perfect,” he pointed out. Bucky looked at you with such sincerity and worry, that you couldn’t look him in the eye. You felt your own eyes growing hot, but you refused to cry.
“But in order to not hurt all of you, I have to be perfect,” you argued.
“We will be fine y/n, your boyfriend has super strength and his stupid spidey senses, and I am a goddamn super soldier. You could probably throw us around like rag dolls and we’d be fine,” Bucky joked. You knew he was trying to make you laugh, but you weren’t certain you could even smile right now.
Bucky sensed that he wasn’t going to get through to you, but someone else might. He lightly patted your shoulder sympathetically, before heading down a hallway.
You continued making your lunch until Wanda walked in five minutes later.
“Sit,” she instructed as she let her magic take control of your cooking, and she pulled out a stool for you. You quickly took it.
“So Bucky told me that you’re blaming yourself for yesterday’s mission,” she started.
Of course he did, not that she wouldn’t have found out from you later, but you weren’t surprised. “Yes, but it’s hardly blaming since it was my fault,” you pointed out.
“Can I show you something?” Wanda asked softly.
You nodded.
She moved to turn on the tv in the kitchen and searched something on youtube, but you didn’t see what she was searching. She moved out of the way to show that it was a video of her. As the video played it showed her moving an individual with a bomb attached to him up into the air and away from the street. The bomb went off on the side of the building, which took out a floor.
“Why are you showing me this?” you asked.
“Because that was one of my first missions as an Avenger. I was doing what I thought would save people, but I made a mistake.” She then switched the video to all of the news coverage of when it had happened. It was all negative. People were calling her a terrorist, they said she didn’t deserve to be an avenger, and she was too much of a risk to be in public. The more videos you watched the more your blood boiled.
“But it’s not fair, you were just a kid trying to save people,” you protested.
“So why don’t you feel that way about what you did?” she asked as she turned off the tv.
You opened your mouth to speak but you closed it when you realized you didn’t have a response for that.
Wanda tucked a piece of hair behind your ear. “Don’t forget to apply the same love and patience you give to the rest of the world to yourself, that’s all I’m trying to teach you,” she said sweetly.
“But what if I hurt someone in the process?” Your voice cracked, and you could feel the water forming in your eyes.
Wanda tilted her head slightly, and her eyes almost seemed to warm. “Dear, the only person you’re truly hurting is yourself.”
“But what about the guy we were supposed to kidnap for information?” you reasoned.
“Well,” Wanda tossed her hair behind her, “honestly he’s a real scumbag so I think you did the world a favor.”
A small smile appeared on your face.
“And you made him a lot more willing to work with us, so I would say you are not only doing wonderful at your job but also at the S.W.O.R.D. investigations unit,” Wanda added as she playfully nudged your shoulder.
You finally let out a small laugh, as you felt a little weight finally fall off your shoulders.
“We are your family, which means we are here for you when you mess up, and when you succeed. I certainly didn’t master my powers in a number of months, so you shouldn’t expect yourself to either,” she advised.
“Thank you Wanda,” you said, as you dried your tears.
She smiled sympathetically. “Anytime, you know I hate to see you sad.” She quickly jabbed your side for emphasis. You let out a small squeak and scooted to the side.
You cautiously eyed her, “Don’t you dare,” you warned. But you looked up to see the sparkle in Wanda’s eyes, and you realized that her mind was already made up.
“Oh I think I dare,” Wanda quipped.
You quickly found that you could no longer move from your chair because of Wanda’s magic, or as Pietro liked to call it, her red wiggly woos. “I just want you to laugh,” she insisted as she squeezed at your side.
As much as you wanted to make a snarky comment, your lips stayed shut to keep your laughter from escaping.
“You’re really going to make me do it huh?” Of course, she did not get a response from you. “Fine, if you want to be difficult,” she tutted.
She squeezed at your hip bone and you were a goner.
“Wanda!” you screeched. If you could’ve moved, you would’ve fallen off of the stool. Your body was trying to spasm, but you obviously coudn’t, which made it ten times worse.
“What?” she asked innocently.
“Stop!” you giggly pleaded.
“Hold on, I just want to try this on someone,” she insisted.
She removed her hand for a moment, and you heaved a deep breath in. But you held that breath when you realized that Wanda was placing more of her magic on you. It seemed like the magic was moving towards your stomach. If you had thought her hands were bad, they were nothing in comparison to your stomach. The magic squeezed, and poked, and prodded all over your stomach. It didn’t exactly feel like hands, but that didn’t mean it didn’t tickle. You screamed with laughter, as your body finally gave into the sensation. Wanda released you after a couple seconds.
“Thahat was uncalled for,” you giggled.
Wanda shrugged with a mostly evil grin. “Maybe, but you’re smiling now, right?”
“Yes.”
She raised her hands to shrug. “Well then my job here is done.”
She turned to walk away but you stopped her halfway. “Wanda?”
You barely spoke above a whisper. “Thank you.”
Wanda came back to where you sat and tightly pulled her arms around you. Your body felt a sense of warmth radiate around it. Wanda squeezed you tightly before letting you go. “Anytime.”

you’re not sorry
Word Count: 747
Genre: Angst babey
Pairing: Natasha x Reader (gender neutral I believe! if I messed that up please let me know!)
Warnings: cheating, mentions of unhealthy relationship patterns
Summary: Natasha is always sorry. But this time, you’re not falling for it.
A/N: hi! so, this is inspired by Taylor Swift’s You’re Not Sorry because it’s one of my favorite songs ever and Fearless (Taylor’s Version) has helped me come out of a depressive episode. I don’t really know where this came from or if it’s good or even makes sense. I just wanted to write something because it’s been a while since I just wrote because I felt inspiration. Sorry if it’s a little lackluster!
You’d walked away with your head high, jaw clenched to stop from showing any emotion to the woman you’d given everything to. You’d ignored her calls for you to turn around. At least, you’d tried to.
“Y/N, come on. I’m sor-”
You’d spun on your heel abruptly, coming face to face with the red head.
“You are not. Do not lie to me, Natalia.” You spat. “I trusted you. I gave you chance after chance after goddamn chance. I should have known this would happen.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She asked, her arms crossing.
“I can’t do this anymore.” Your shoulders sagged with your confession. “I let the flirting slide. I let the top secret ‘work’ stuff slide. I let you get away with everything, Natasha. I can’t anymore.”
“Y/N!”
“Don’t tell me you’re sorry. If you were, you’d have told me the truth.”
“I couldn’t-”
“Yes, you could have!” You all but shouted at her, not allowing her to get more than a word in. “You told Steve! You told Bucky! Sam! Tony! Hell, you even told Scott! Why am I the last to know every damn time? Do you know how humiliating this is for me?”
“I didn’t want to lose you,” you looked away, knowing you would crumple under the sad eyes she gave you.
“Then you shouldn’t have fucked her.” You deadpanned, finally meeting her eyes. She looked taken aback. “I trusted you. You promised me it was just flirting and it was one time.”
Natasha’s mouth opened and closed several times, trying to find something to say. Trying to find some way to make you forgive her as you had so many times before.
“You promised. And I’m the idiot who believed you.” You shook your head, trying to clear your eyes of unshed tears. “I believed you. Every time. Every late night ‘mission’ that you had to do with her. Every one of Stark’s parties I couldn’t attend because you had to be there with her. I believed every stupid lie you told me!”
“Some of those were missions.” She insisted.
“I’m sure they were.” You scoffed.
“It didn’t mean anything, okay? She was a mistake.” Natasha told you as she had several times already.
“Then why did you keep going back?” You asked incredulously. How many ridiculous excuses was she going to use? “Why did you tell Steve you were falling for her?”
Her face dropped.
“Yeah, how did you think I found out, Natasha?” A part of you felt smug at the redness blossoming up her neck in embarrassment. “You told Steve you loved her. You told Sam you felt like the luckiest girl on earth. You bragged to Scott, of all people. And you thought it wouldn’t get back to me?”
“I swear it’ll never happen again, okay? Just please don’t go.” She stepped between you and the door.
“Get out of my way.” You tell her with a sudden calmness.
“Wait-”
“Now.”
“Do you want some space?” She asked, “I can give you space! Take a few days and then I’ll come see you or I can call you or-”
“Don’t call. I will not answer.” You tell her firmly. “Don’t show up to my apartment, I will not let you in. Do not show up at my work, I will have you escorted out.”
“Y/N, please.” She grabbed your arm, stopping you from listing all the ways she’d gotten you to forgive her in the past. You recoiled as if she’d burned you.
“No.” You laughed bitterly. “I would have stood by your side for the rest of our lives. I would have loved you forever, don’t you get that?”
“What’s stopping you?” Natasha asked, her fear showing on her face. “We’ve worked through rough patches before.”
“What's stopping me is a pretty little brunette named Wanda, whose bed you decided to slip into.” You tried to contain your feelings. “How many times have I forgiven you? How many times have I let you hurt me and pretended everything was fine? I won’t do it anymore. I can’t!”
“I’m sorry, baby,” She was begging you to stay. The look in your eyes told her that if you walked out that door now, you would never return. At least, not for her.
“That’s the problem.” You felt a tear slip out of your eye as you stared at the woman you thought you’d spend the rest of your life with. “You’re not sorry.”

Twilight Skies and Tea (Loki x Reader)
ULTIMATE MASTERLIST
Loki often felt like an outcast no matter where he went. In Asgard he was typically reserved and more mischievous compared to the rest of Asgard. Didn’t help that after years of thinking it was because he was his mother’s son, he finds out that wasn’t even the case. He had been taken from Jotunheim as a political pawn, as a relic until Odin had some use for him. Even on the Jotunheim he was out of place, his being raised in Asgard had left him with different habits and ways of thinking from his Jotun brothers and sisters.
Midgard... well Midgard was obvious.
Loki wouldn’t admit this but he barely remembered him invading, bits and pieces but the rest was a blur. Like he wasn’t in control, and that terrified him. He had underestimated the power of the mind stone and fell victim to it’s madness.
Despite him barely remembering, he carried the weight of the lives he had taken whether it be directly or indirectly. He knew Midgard would never forget what he did to New York.
As punishment for his crimes he was sent to Midgard by his brother and mother. Odin had wanted to let Loki rot in a cell, however Thor and their mother insisted that Loki should try to correct his wrongs by working with the Avengers in protecting the world.
Tony and the rest were hesitant about it at first, however Fury had forced their hand and in the end Tony was the first to agree that the more man power the better. Although it seemed the tin man had seen better days when he agreed.
They didn’t make it easier at first. Their hatred and judgement was nothing compared to that of Asgard but still, it hurt. However as months turned into years they had let up and eventually considered him a friend. Even Clint had come to consider Loki a friend eventually.
Even though his relationship with Thor had improved as well as his relationships with the rest of the Avengers, He still felt very out of place. He began to accept the fact that maybe he’ll always feel like that when you came into the picture.
You were the latest person to be added to the Avengers team. Loki immediately sensed great power coming from you alone, sure Wanda’s was overwhelming, but yours seemed to match his and that was nothing to scoff at.
Loki felt a connection with you that he had never felt before. Something akin to companionship but stronger.
Apparently you had felt it too because you naturally drifted to Loki. You were calm and tranquil most of the time. Both of you enjoying each other company in the library reading Mary Shelley and Charles Dickens respectfully, and it seemed as though you two were naturally nocturnal because you often shared freshly brewed pot of tea with the god at unseemly times of night to discuss recent reads and a few playful remarks here and there on the roof and watch as the sky turned.
It almost seemed like you two were on the same wavelength.
“You know that I don’t believe you were in control of the New York attack.” You blurt out randomly. You two were on the roof again, this time watching the twilight skies. That sentence took him aback for a second.
“Why?”
“I took a look at some of the footage that you were caught on and now that I’m looking at you I can see a clear difference.” You take a sip of the warm tea in your hands before continuing. “It seemed like the scepter was draining the life out of you, and your eyes were borderline bloodshot and glowing blue. I think the mind stone had taken over you and controlled you.”
Loki couldn’t help shaking slightly, he had never told anyone, not even Thor of not remembering what he had done. He had doubted anyone would believe him.
You seem to have noticed and placed a warm hand on top of his cold one.
After that you and him had made it a habit to drink tea and watch the twilight sky on the roof everyday. It was the closest thing to therapy you two ever had.
“I feel very out of place here sometimes,” You had just gotten back from a mission with the rest of the team, and immediately you came to the roof where Loki had found you waiting for him. He sat beside you and gave you an understanding nod.
“I feel like that too here.”
“Here’s the strange thing,” you said leaning your head to rest on his shoulder, “I don’t feel that out of place right now though. When it’s just us on the roof drinking tea.”
“Are you sure you’re not a mind reader?” he had asked playfully, you had laughed silently.
“I’m sure if I was I would have gone completely mad years ago.”
“What wrong with a bit of madness.”
“Absolutely nothing.”
You smiled at each other before turning your gaze back to the sky. You sat there until the stars and the moon had taken their place in the sky before you spoke again.
“I’ve done horrible things Lok,” you admitted silently. By now the tea was cold and discarded and now you two just laid on the roof watching the stars and admitting things in the comfort of darkness.
“I know,”
“Not completely,” you said. There was a weight in your words that Loki quickly recognized.
“I volunteered for HYDRA experiments, not out of wanting to change the world like Wanda or was forced like Bucky.” You paused taking a deep and shaky breath in and out, “I volunteered for revenge.”
You then told him what you didn’t tell the others. Your family was the most important thing to you, the sun had risen and set on them. However people did unforgivable things to them, things you weren’t ready to say and perhaps never will. You had lost the thing you held dear and you made a list. A list of the people who had ever hurt them and went to HYDRA. Told them you were a willing volunteer and that they need only pay you in bringing in the people on your list. One person for each success.
You discovered your control over fear that way, by using it repeatedly on those who harmed your family.
How the weight of what you had done still weighed on you.
Then Shield found you, gave you immunity for what you did before, so long as you put those powers towards good and joined the Avengers.
Loki understood loving your family, he wouldn’t admit it aloud but Thor was his brother and Frigga is mother. In all terms of the words, it didn’t matter if he hadn’t been theirs by blood, he considered them as such.
He would lose his mind if something were to happen to them that appalled even him.
Revenge was something he knew even better, he had felt it consume him as he picked up the scepter in it’s overwhelming rage and anguish.
He had intertwined your hands as you laid together.
“Rame.”
“what?”
“It’s an old word in your language,” he explains, “It’s an adjective for something that is both joyful and chaotic at the same time.” he felt your shaky laugh beside him. Loki turned to see one tear streaming from your eye and your laughing face. He couldn’t help thinking about how beautiful you had looked in that moment.
“I think that describes us perfectly.”
“I believe so darling.”
He was a goner since that day you came to the tower.
It just took him this long to figure that out.
---
After that you had somehow transitioned from that of tea and confessions in the safety of the twilight skies to that of library dates and stolen kisses where no one could see you.
Loki also started to use a lot of old but beautiful words when conversing with you.
The first night you spent together as lovers he described as Elysian. He had spent the rest of that night whispering that word to you.
However it wasn’t always idyllic between you two.
the God of Mischief and the woman who can literally manipulate the fear of others were bound to argue at some point.
Usually it was something as simple as the opinions of authors or of tea flavors and even then it was more along the lines of bickering that ended with a sweet kiss.
However, there were times where it was bickering.
You had come back from a mission with a bullet graze on your arm and bruised ribs. You weren’t paying attention when a bullet grazed your right arm and an HYDRA agent snuck up on you and kicked you at your side.
All things considered the injuries weren’t the worst thing you’ve experienced physically and Loki knew you could take care of yourself.
Didn’t stop him from immediately rushing to the Med Bay when he heard that you had to stop there for stitches and bandages.
“(Y/n),” he called your name as soon as he entered the Med Bay.
‘I’m in here” you responded. Almost as soon as you had finished responding he pulled back the curtain to reveal where the doctor was finishing bandaging your arm and prescribing medication for the pain.
She had nodded to you after getting the gist that the god wanted to talk to you alone.
“What the hell happened.” You could see the anger practically coming off his body, if it was any other circumstances you would’ve found it hot. However, you knew now wasn’t the time or the place.
“I got shot at-”
“No really I couldn’t tell.” He sassed, he often got like that when he was properly angry, You were the one who got shot at and you had yet to take the pain meds that the Doc prescribed so you weren’t in the mood to deal with it.
“I’m not in the mood Loki,”
“Not in the mood?!” he exclaimed, “You were shot at and taken down. If Steven hadn’t been there, there would’ve been a bullet in your head!”
However he was and therefore I’m only merely grazed by the arm.”
“This isn’t something you can just brush away (Y/n)” He was seething. The mere thought of losing you was enough to almost bring him to his knees, and it was times like these where he knew that there will come a time where he will have to say goodbye to you. You were originally from Midgard, you were born mortal and therefore he will outlive you. When that day comes he has no idea how he would handle it.
“Lok,” You softly spoke, you knew he wasn’t angry at you. He was angry because the reality of the situation was hitting him again. How mortal you were. You gently raised your hand to cup his cheek and gently brush your thumb over the tears that leaked out. Loki had fallen to his knees in front of you.
There had to be a way, there had to be some way that he would never have to say goodbye to you.
---
Thor had dragged Loki to Guy’s Night. Usually Loki would be vehemently against this, instead preferring to spend the evenings with you in your shared room. However Loki didn’t put up much of a fight this time. Instead Thor had to do minimal dragging of his little brother.
Loki had only gone because he needed to talk to his brother about something in privacy. Something he couldn’t risk you or the others overhearing.
Thor had brought Loki and the other male Avengers to bar hop. Going to one bar after another, something that Darcy had taught Thor of when he first came to Midgard and Thor seemed to enjoy it.
As the group of men walked Loki quickly cast a glamour to make it seem as though Thor and Loki were talking of something small and light.
Thor quickly caught on after having learned now when his brother cast magic and turned to look at his brother. Ever since you had come back wounded from a mission he could sense something was off about his brother and it worried him deeply. Loki was never surrounded by fair maidens like Thor was back on Asgard, but there were a few who sought the comfort of Loki rather than Thor. His little brother was never interested in them however, you were the only exception.
“Brother,” Loki started, the guys still laughing ahead of them in a group, “what I say to you next must stay between us and only us for the time being. Lady Jane or Sif or any of the others must not know. Understood.” His tone was serious, no room for any of his regular mischief to sneak in.
“Brother I would never betray your trust.”
“I am in love with (Y/n).”
“Yes, this isn’t new news to me.” Thor said, although Loki never really said the word ‘love’ often he knew that in those rare moments either one of two things were to happen next. Either Loki will be sharing some heart wrenching and shocking news or Loki was about to stab someone. There was no in between.
“Brother I plan on doing the Bonding Ceremony with her.” The Bonding Ceremony was more serious than that of marriage. Forming a bond ensured that whether it be your life or his, your souls would be bonded together. When one of you dies the other does too.
Not many had heard of the Bonding since now it was typically frowned upon. Loki and Thor only knew it since Frigga was the one to teach them such things in case they ever found someone they couldn’t bear to lose.
Loki had.
Thor felt his footsteps stop. This would be the closest thing Loki could do to either grant (Y/n) immortality or to make himself mortal. This was the ultimate gamble.
“Are you sure brother?”
“I’ve never been more certain about anything in my entire life.” Loki firmly confirmed, “There will be no other love for me brother, she is it.”
Thor felt his heart swell in pride when he looked at his little brother. Loki’s eyes which were usually sharp and calculating were soft and full of a love that Thor only had a mere taste of. Thor didn’t doubt for a second that if something were to happen to Lady (Y/n), whatever force took her from him would surely pay the price.
Thor clapped a hand on his brother's shoulder, bringing him back to reality.
“Well then when do you plan on asking her?”
“Soon brother,” Loki said, “all good things come to those who wait.”
---
Your powers were useless against the titan in front of you. With all your might you had tried to use your powers on him to no avail. While you were panting on the ground, weak and exhausted, the purple dickhead barely broke a sweat fighting off your attacks.
His associates were easy enough to deal with, not nearly as immune to your powers as their leader. Most were crumpled in a ball sobbing or took their own life. Thanos almost seemed impressed with you, how you managed to take down a fair amount of his followers single handedly.
If only you weren’t so emotional. He would have taken you as another daughter.
You weren’t even meant to be there, Loki had tried to prevent you from coming with him and Thor on the search for their father. However, you weren’t much of a listener.
After Ragnorok, Loki realized he waited too long to give you the beautiful emerald ring he had always carried with him since that Boy’s Night almost a year ago. He had been so afraid of rejection that he hadn’t considered how much time was passing and how fleeting life was.
You both cried in each other's arms after you accepted.
Then this douchebag had to come and ruin everything.
“Wait!” Loki yelled as Thanos took one step closer to your exhausted figure. He took out the Tesseract that he had taken before Asgard was destroyed.
“If you spare her life and the rest of the people on this ship I will give you what you came here for.”
Your eyes widened as you looked at your fiance. His hair hid the majority of his face from your view, if it wasn’t in the way you would have seen the look of acceptance in his eyes.
It wasn’t until you were too late did you notice the knife in his other hand.
You wanted to scream at him, ‘you dumbass why would you try to pull a knife on this monster!’. You could only scream and try to physically fight the titan to let Loki out of his grasp and Thor was struggling against his restraints.
When you heard the sickening crack of Loki’s neck as his soul left him. You felt the last piece of your compassion and love die with him.
His body crumpled to the ground, unmoving and dead. Just dead.
When you lost your family you had been filled with the flames of white hot anger.
This time it was as though ice filled every part of your body, you were cold. There were no flames, just the icy feeling of loss. You could only stare at his body, nothing seemed to move. Not one muscle, no one took a breath.
Then it came.
The scream that was ripped out of you was inhuman and reverberated throughout the entire ship.
All the restraint you put on the darkness inside you broke as you crawled to his body. You crumpled over his body, holding on to whatever warmth he still had for dear life.
Meanwhile Thanos’s eyes had widened, the dark cloud that was leaking out of you had taken the entire ship. He barely could manage to see anything in it. The cloud seemed to capture any light and immediately darken it.
Then the feeling he knew all too well came to almost overtake him.
It was loss, pure unadulterated loss, and anger, and sadness.
Suddenly he found himself on Titan again, more specifically the day it all was destroyed. How no Titan citizen was safe from the wreckage. Not even his family. All of his darkest memories played before him and nearly drove him mad.
Thanos has never met a person quite like you. Not one so powerful.
He wondered why you hadn’t shown this strength before?
He wondered just how much you were holding back.
Without a second thought he put the space stone in the gauntlet and gathered his remaining followers and left.
He needed away from you before your darkness engulfed him completely.
---
You were still cold as you, Thor, Rocket, and Groot made your way to Nidavellir. You sat next to the blonde God of Thunder, who was in no better shape than you were in.
Apparently when the Guardians found you, Thor had been holding onto you, he was probably the only reason why you didn’t freeze to death in space next to Loki’s corpse.
Absentmindedly you fiddled with the emerald ring resting on your finger, it amazed you how it wasn’t lost in the middle of that havoc. You looked at it for a second, briefly it was a symbol of you and Loki’s love and commitment. Now it was just another cruel reminder of all you’ve ever loved and lost.
You barely remember Thanos attacking, you just remember crawling over to Loki’s body and holding onto him as tightly as you could. Trying to bring him back to life.
You felt Thor envelop you hand with his own and tightly hold onto it. You knew what that meant without needing to communicate with words.
Revenge.
Thor will avenge his brother and you will get revenge for your lover.
It was a promise.
---
“BRING US THANOS!” You and Thor screeched. You were in the smack in the middle of the battle in Wakanda. Already you saw faces you haven’t seen in years.
Steve now had a beard which was weird, but cool.
Your hands outreached and darkness sprung from them. The darkness enveloped at least the first 30 beasts in front of you, choking them the same way Thanos had choked Loki.
You and Thor had trained during your spare time on each of your powers.
Thor had truly become a force to be reckoned with, especially with his new axe.
You had further developed the powers you had once been terrified of. Learning to embrace the darkness and the fear of others, letting it fuel your powers further.
Even Hela would be terrified of you.
You followed Thor’s lead, you never being too far behind him taking out enemies left and right. You only strayed when you saw Wanda being cornered, after helping her you quickly located Thor and followed him. Not bothering to stay and chat.
The air seemed to chill as you felt Thanos’s energy.
Thanos just came to the party.
You and Thor made an immediate beeline to him.
Thanos was just about to snap his fingers when Thor threw his axe in his chest.
Thor drove the axe further into the purple dicks chest as you let loose almost every ounce of darkness in you to invade Thanos’s senses. disabling him from feeling everything but fear, anguish, torment, everything you had ever felt. All of your loss and darkest thoughts. How you imagined torturing him. Replaying pushing Gamora off the cliff again and again, watching in third person, never changing course. All the people he had ever loved, a pile of dead bodies all over the cliff.
“I told you,” Thor said as you allowed Thanos to see and hear your brother in law. “you’d die for that.”
Thanos mumbled, you were too focused on torturing him to see his hands start to move.
“You should have gone for the head.” You noticed all too late before his fingers snapped.
At first you felt nothing, until you slowly saw your fingertips begin to crumble into dust.
You welcomed death.
---
You thought you had died, however, you opened your eyes and saw a portal.
“Darkness,” You turned your head and saw a man with a red cape and a weird looking necklace around his neck.
“Only my enemies call me that.” You retort, your hands already beginning to move.
“I’m not your enemy,” he assured, “I’m Doctor Strange, you’ve been dead for 5 years and I came to you personally to ask for help.”
“Why?”
“Because without you Thanos will win again and the alternative timeline isn’t so cheerful and I would like to try to avoid that.”
“I meant why should I trust you.” You didn’t need much convincing, you would love to have a second chance at killing Thanos. You just needed to know you could trust this man.
“You should trust me because the Universe depends on it.” He arrogantly said before adding, “plus we both know the only other person who hates Thanos as much as you do is Wanda. In fact I’ll need both of you.”
---
Strange told you to follow T’Challa and he will lead you to where you and Wanda will defeat Thanos.
Sure enough there Thanos was, and Wanda landed right in beside you.
“Nice of you to drop in.”
“And let you have all the fun, never.” Wanda replied, her eyes glowed menacingly at Thanos.
“You took everything from me.” Wanda said.
“ And you will pay for what you did.” You followed.
“I don’t even know who you are.” Thanos said.
“You will.” You and her say at the same time.
Thanos had tried to no avail to stop your advances to him. Wanda’s red magic enveloped him as your darkness invaded his senses, showing him his future self that you had fought.
“Wanda!” you yelled, capturing the red heads attention briefly.
“Go for the head.”
Her smile was chilling as her magic changed from picking apart his armor to slowly ripping his head off his body.
Red magic gathered at his throat and ran through him as though he had been made of butter.
Thanos’s head rolled on the soot covered ground, his eyes lifeless but his scared expression forever etched onto his features.
---
After their leaders demise his armies ceased and it was fairly easy taking care of them after that.
After the battle you reunited with Thor, time had clearly not been kind to your brother in law. He was bigger now, and his hair was longer and he reeked of alcohol and B.O.
You spent the next few weeks taking care of him and catching up on what you’ve missed during the past five years, although you didn’t really want to.
While for you the past five years seemed to pass by like a good night’s sleep, for everyone it dragged on.
Thor had been living in his guilt and grief for five years while for you it was still fresh.
Part of you wished you hadn’t returned, the only joyful part of coming back was ending Thanos with your own hands.
You went to New Asgard with Thor, you didn’t really care about staying behind after the battle. Tony did the same thing, he went back home to his family with Peter.
You looked out to the sea of green grass before you, a blanket under you, a cup of fresh tea in one hand and another tea right beside you.
You instinctively made two teas, one for you and one for the ghost of your Loki. It was a hard habit to break. Twilight engulfed the sky as a Mary Shelley book laid face down on the blanket next to Loki’s tea.
You could almost feel him next to you, and if you closed your eyes you swear you could hear him move next to you.
“Hey Thor.” You greeted without looking. He often came to check on you around this time of day.
“Lady (Y/n),” He greeted as he sat next to you opposite where Loki’s tea was.
“I suppose you heard about my departure tomorrow.”
You had, You heard he named Val King of Asgard and was planning on leaving with the Guardians tomorrow to travel across space. You were sad to see him go but happy that he was finally moving on.
You nodded.
‘You could come with us.”
His offer was tempting, an adventure across space would’ve sounded like a dream come true to you.
“No matter where I go I’ll still think of him,” you said before turning your gaze to the blonde god. “For you it may have been years ago, but I still feel his absence as intensely as a knife in the heart. I don’t mean to disregard your mourning for your brother, but it’s still a fresh and bleeding wound.”
You twirled the emerald ring on your finger, a habit you did when you thought of him. It was the only physical thing you had left to remind yourself of him beside a few pictures you had taken.
There was a long pause before either of you spoke again.
“My brother was a complicated, mischievous man. Always scheming, he kept people at arm's length.” Thor said, “I don’t think he felt like a belonged anywhere, until he met you.”
Your heart broke.
“You brought out a man that I thought long dead in him. You gave me back my brother and our mother her son. Loki was going to Bond with you.”
You stared at him in confusion, Thanos’s attack had been so sudden that Loki didn’t fully explain what Bonding was.
“Our mother taught Loki and I most things. She once taught us about a wedding ritual that was ancient but typically frowned upon on Asgard. Your souls would become Bonded until one of you died.” Fresh tears rolled down your face as he continued. “It was the closest thing that Loki could do to either give you immortality or to make himself mortal. He couldn’t stand the thought of being without you, even for one day.”
“Why are you telling me this now?”
“Loki loved you more than he had ever loved anything,” Thor put his hand respectfully on your shoulder, “He would never want you to suffer one day with or without him. You and I are too much alike sister in law,” Tears littered his mismatched eyes. “We both lost all that we had ever loved, our family being the hardest loss among them. I don’t think they would want us to sit and let life pass us. Instead they would want us to live it to the fullest with little regret for them.”
Thor made sense, if the roles had been reversed you wouldn’t have wanted Loki to continue to live. To live as though he was living for you as well.
For the first time since he died you cried. Sobbing uncontrollably into Thor’s shoulder.
You missed Loki, and you knew you would never love anyone the way you had loved him. You know there will be a lifetime’s worth of restless nights and grieving ahead of you. But Thor had a point, you needed to drink the rest of that tea, look away from the twilight skies, and put away the book.
You needed to live.
If not for you then for him and your family.
---
After that Thor helped you pack and soon you were off on your own adventure.
Making sure to live everyday, with little to no regrets, the emerald ring safely secured on a chain around your neck.

chapter 10: I didn’t plan it
Two months pass and I realize it’s only a matter of weeks before I meet my baby girl. I’ve been working hard to save more money but I’m still not even close to the amount I’m gonna need for the birth AND the divorce. It’s been really hard to put my pride aside and accept the help my friends offer, I guess I’m used to being left to my own devices since I was very young. But I love my little family. Bucky and Sam drive me home every night after closing and Wanda has been bringing me gifts for the baby. Nat’s contact will be handling my divorce and she said they would give us a payment plan so that it won’t be so difficult to pay all at once. I still don’t understand how that’s gonna work but I trust her. She’s being very strange though, but Natasha’s one of those people who deal with issues on their own and compartmentalizes everything. Still, I’m worried about her. I guess I can’t judge her, we’re the same in that department.
Old Nick hasn’t been around much lately, says he’s taking care of his health. Guess my pies aren’t the healthiest meal for an eighty-something year old man. Maybe I should start adding more vegetables to my own diet, I’m creating life inside of me after all.
-
“Hey boys, what can I getcha?” Wanda flirts with Steve at the counter and Bucky laughs, he seems to be getting used to their corny, slightly inappropriate conversations.
“Oh I don’t know, sweetheart. What’s the special pie today?” Steve flirts back at her.
“Well, Y/N made her famous ‘Slutty brownie pie’ today and if you want, I could make it even sluttier-”
“Guys! Not in front of my salad, please!” Sam scolds them and Bucky’s just laughing at Steve’s red cheeks. Wanda rolls her eyes at him and motions Steve to follow her away from the group.
I come out of the kitchen ready to leave and see Steve and Wanda making out in the far corner of the counter, while Bucky and Sam talk about an AC/DC concert they both attended back when they didn’t know each other. Sam’s also taking care of his diet it seems, but Bucky’s stuffing his mouth with my brownie pie. I don’t actually understand how he can eat so much and still look absolutely stunning.
“Guys! Keep it in your pants. It’s movie night, we’re leaving!” I scold them and Steve’s blush has reached his ears and neck at this point.
“Thank you! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks those two are such horny teenagers”. Sam throws his hands in the air and hangs his apron, ready to go.
“I think they’re adorable, but I’m tired and hungry, and I don’t want any more pie today so let’s go, where’s Nat?” I look around trying to find the redhead.
“She said she needed to be alone tonight but she’ll be at the party tomorrow”. Wanda says and we share the same worried look on our eyes.
“Oh, okay. Shall we?”
We get to Bucky’s apartment and today’s pick is on Steve cause tomorrow’s his birthday. He chooses 1986’s Labyrinth. We order pizza and sushi and enjoy the magical spectacle on the screen.
I can’t stop thinking about my divorce and all the bills that are waiting for me in the future. Raising a child isn’t cheap. Bucky holds my hand at one point, under the blanket that we’re sharing. I guess he senses my worry and tries to make it go away. I’m glad he does. Lately I’ve just been letting myself fall for him because fighting against it it’s a lost cause. He’s the sweetest guy, brings me home safely anytime he’s able to, he cares about my friends and most importantly, he’s patient and doesn’t rush me to do anything I’m not ready to do. His parents raised him right, what’s a girl supposed to do?
-
Next day is organized chaos, thanks to Wanda and her frantic need for everything to be perfect. She really loves Steve and he’s a good guy. They deserve each other, truly.
Nat’s helping Sam hang decorations around Wanda’s backyard. It’s a mixture of 4th of July colors and Happy Birthday signs. We’re not doing the whole fireworks thing, since Wanda’s birthday present for Steve wouldn’t like the noise. But there’s a flatscreen set up to watch them on tv.
I’m in the kitchen, chopping some tomatoes for a pico de gallo I’m making. Bucky’s setting up the barbecue outside and I can see him from the window. He keeps messing it up and starting again, making the funniest, exasperated faces. I told him Steve could do it in no time but he insisted he’s the birthday boy and should just enjoy this day.
Speaking of Steve, he’s on his way. It ain’t a surprise party but we still wanted to set everything up before he got here.
-
We’re all enjoying the cool summer breeze, watching football on a projector Wanda set up in the backyard, we have hotdogs and guacamole and chips, the guys have beer which of course I can’t have, but Bucky was kind enough to make me an entire jug of pink lemonade just for me. I’m not really interested in the game, to be honest and my bladder is full so I separate myself from Buck and look around to realize Natasha isn’t here. Since this is not my house and I need to find the restroom I ask Wanda for some help instead and we enter the house together.
She points me to the toilet and I open the door to find Nat and Sam wrapped around each other, half naked.
“OH MY GOD! What’s happening here?!” I immediately cover my eyes and close the door.
“Y/N, you’re okay? What is it? Don’t tell me you found a rat cause I hate them so much, Gosh I told Steve we should’ve done this at my place, is way cleaner”.
“I- I- no- um. It’s not a rat it’s a- um. I’m sorry-”
“Y/N! Let me explain-” Natasha comes out the restroom with her blouse half buttoned up, makeup almost completely ruined.
“I don’t- I don’t need you to expla- can somebody please lead me to another bathroom or something? I’m about to piss myself!”
“Sure, honey, let’s go”. Wanda grabs me, she apparently understands what’s going on, looking at Nat’s disheveled state and brings me upstairs to another room.
-
“What’s going on? I heard the girls yell”. Bucky enters the house and sees Sam and Nat cornered in the kitchen, looking like they’ve seen a ghost.
“Nothing, man. I think it’s time for me to leave. Say happy birthday to Steve for me”. Sam kisses Nat on the cheek and leaves the house.
“Wha- Natasha, are you okay?” Bucky stands there awkwardly, trying to break the tension.
“I’m fine, but the girls and I need to talk privately. Would you distract Steve for us? He doesn’t need to hear about this. Tell him we’re talking about pregnancy stuff with Y/N or something”.
“Oh-kay? Are you sure you’re alright though, you seem-”
“I’m fine, Bucky. Now go talk to Steve, he’s out there alone on his birthday”.
“Well, he looks fine! He’s watching the Patriots destroy the- Okay got it, see you later”. Bucky awkwardly scurries down to the kitchen and grabs a couple more beers and brings them outside.
-
“Knock-knock”. Natasha enters Steve’s bedroom and sees Wanda sitting on the bed.
“Hey”.
“Hey. Y/N still peeing?”
“I don’t think so. But I think she’s crying”.
“God she’s always so dramatic”.
“Hey! You should’ve told us! Do you know how worried about you we’ve been? We thought you were sick or something! Not wanting to hang out with us. We were supposed to plan a baby shower for her by now but you’ve been M.I.A.”.
“ I know, and I’m sorry”. Nat sighs and knocks on the bathroom door.
“Y/N, come out. We know you’re done so let’s go. We need to talk”.
-
I wipe my tears. I don’t know why I feel betrayed. Sam and Nat are my best friends, I should be happy for them. Damn hormones making me cry like a little baby every time something’s out of place.
“Hey”. I sniff and open the door to see Natasha rolling her eyes at me.
“Why the hell are you crying?”
“Oh I’m sorry for being a hormonal mess but seeing two of my best friends, one of them who’s married by the way, making out like horny teenagers would definitely cause me some distress!”
“Uh huh, and how is this any different to you and Bucky holding hands and making eyes at each other every single minute? May I remind you, you’re still married too!”
“Oh my God, Natasha, you did not! I’m getting a divorce, you know that!”
“Yeah, I know. And I understand and not make a fuss about it, until you decide to judge me for the exact same thing you’ve been doing!”
“Why- ah. Sorry, I know I’m looking like a complete hypocrite right now. It’s just- you guys are my friends and you’ve been acting so strange lately, it had me so worried and I feel like I could’ve been there for you, just as much as you’ve been there for me. You guys are my sisters”.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. But Sam and I wanted to figure out what we wanted first and you know how I am. I fall down the rabbit hole and I keep it to myself cause I’m too proud to admit I’m weak”.
“Natasha, please. You’re anything BUT weak. You’re the one who’s always showing us how strong we really are!” Wanda chimes in and holds both mine and Nat’s hands in hers.
“Okay girls, listen up, from now on we need to make a pact that whenever one of us starts to close off from each other, we will make an intervention for that person and keep ourselves accountable for our shitty ways to cope with men, and life, and money problems, and cleaning obsessions, is that clear?” Nat kisses the top of my head and Wanda laughs at her declaration.
Somehow I feel like everything’s about to change, hopefully for the better.

I'll Always Be Yours (Part 5)
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Tumblr media
Fifth Song: Dahan (Gently)
You stop trying to fight your stubborn heart. Just wanting to live a lonely life without her.
A/N: Officially completed and I'm starting on my Wanda fic now!!
Might take weeks to finish that one though...
Oh well.
Dialogues that are in parenthesis are spoken in Japanese.
Warning: Angst
No more tears
I won't force it anymore
You are my love
Until eternity
No more listening
My mind is confused
I hope you know
You are the one I love
-
You hum as you draw. It took you a week until you can finally draw your sketches again. Another week to pick up a paintbrush and actually paint.
It’s been four months since then. Your only missing at least two more paintings so you could open another art exhibit. You hum as you take a sip of your coffee.
“Shouldn’t you stop?” You raise an eyebrow at Silvia.
“That’s your third cup already and it’s only 11 am.” You shrug at her and continue sketching.
“Will the last one be Natasha?” You stop and contemplate Miyuki’s words. You haven’t sketched her since you broke down.
“Most probably.” You’ll probably use one of your older sketches. The ones where the woman you draw was the one you knew. Not Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow and Avenger but just Natalia, the little girl who turned into a gorgeous woman. Natalia whom you loved with your every being.
“Maybe sell it this time?” You frown at Silvia. “You rejected the last offer for the portrait!” You shrug. “It was 20 million!” Miyuki whistles at you and you smile.
“I still don’t want anyone to monopolize her.” Silvia sighs in defeat and Miyuki consoles her.
-
You start painting her portrait again and you can’t help but smile. You just hope that wherever she is. Whomever she was with. That you’re still holding onto your promise with her. You’ll always be waiting for her. Loving her. You stretch your body as you pause for the day. You really did meant forever.
“Silvia?” Silvia opens your door and peeks inside.
“Yeah?”
“Can you contact Professor Asuna? See if there’s any willing gallery that I can rent for a week?”
“Okay. Got it.”
“Thanks, even though you’re only my bodyguard.”
“It’s called assisting. I do that too.”
“I know!” You chuckle as she closes the door. You open your phone and lay down on the floor. You begin watching videos of the love of your life.
-
“Natasha.” Nat ignores Clint and stares at her portrait. “Hey.”
“What?”
“There’s a kid that wants to interview you?” Natasha sighs and turns around.
“Why?”
“About the painting, I think.”
“Where?”
“In front of Mona Lisa.”
-
Natasha approaches the kid who smiles at her.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Colette. A big fan of Master Y/N.”
“Have you met her?” Natasha sits besides the kid and they both look at Mona Lisa.
“Yes. Many times. Through her exhibitions. Never got to buy any of original painting though, just the postcards one.”
“What do you want from me?”
“Just answers.”
“To what?”
“Do you and Master Y/N know each other?”
“Knew.” Natasha answers with a sigh. “Before I became an Avenger, I knew her.” Colette hums.
“To what extent?”
“What?”
“Your relationship? Friends? Lovers? Enemies?”
“Lovers.” Natasha says with a sad smile.
“Ah. I knew it.”
“What do you mean?” Colette shrugs and smiles.
“Do you know that she still loves you?” Natasha gulps and looks at Colette. Colette smiles and gives Natasha an envelope. “It’s all just postcards but you can compare them to your portrait here. The strokes and the color aren’t matching. She must’ve spent days on your portraits and only hours on the landscapes. Granted they’re the ones she sells all the time.”
“She never sells my portraits?” Colette chuckles.
“Never. She said to a buyer once that she doesn’t want anyone to monopolize you. That you’re better taken care of if you’re seen by the world.” Colette bids her goodbye and Natasha looks at the miniature version of your paintings, she goes back to her portrait and her heart stops. Colette was right.
You do still love her. She can’t stop her smile and Clint smiles at her.
“You okay?” Natasha smiles.
“I’m good.”
-
And if it’s not for me
The love that you offer
Then I won’t hope anymore
To be kissed again
-
You sigh as Silvia and Miyuki cuddle each other while you were behind them. You insisted on this arrangement so you could deny that you know them. You pay attention to the screen and flinches when Steve appears. He says that warning that every movie theater does before showing the movie itself. You sigh and you look and see that the two are looking at you. You chuck them a piece of your popcorn and they look at the screen.
-
“The movie was so good!” You yawn as Silvia gushes about the movie.
“Yeah!” Miyuki agrees as you stretch your body.
“Boss? You going back?”
“Yep. You two go on a date or something.”
“You sure?”
“Yep. I’ll go take a nap before painting.”
“How many more days till you finish it?” You grin at them.
“Probably just one more.”
-
You wake up and see Natasha’s portrait staring down at you. You yawn and smile. Your phone rings and you see that it’s Asuna.
(“Hey.”)
(“You ready for it?”)
(“Yup. I’m just going to have the final one in center.”) Asuna hums.
(“Another portrait of her?”) You look at it and smile.
(“Always.”) After you hang up, you send an email to Tony Stark, confirming his invitation to your new exhibition.
-
Slowly release
My heart can't resist
Because once you left
It’s been Extremely difficult
-
You put on your suit and hum at yourself. You clean up nice.
“Is that an appreciative hum for my fashion sense or are you just being narcissistic?” Silvia asks and you roll your eyes. You get out of your room and Asuna smiles at you.
(“Finally. After hours.”)
(“Only an hour. Don’t compare me to you.”) Asuna gasps and Miyuki snickers.
(“Hush, you. Now, come on.”) You smile as you all leave the Ryokan and into your gallery. You laugh as you look around and your new paintings are displayed.
(“Asuna! Thank you! This is amazing!”)
(“On such short notice too.”)
(“Anything for the master. As long as you save me one painting.”)
(“Pick one.”)
(“Wait, seriously?”)
(“Yeah? There are a lot more than the usual so pick one.”)
(“This one then.”) She presents the portrait and you raise an eyebrow.
(“Anything except that one.”) They laugh and you shake your head.
(“This one then.”)
(“Ah. Your hometown?”) Asuna hums and you nod at her.
(“It’s yours. I’ll tell Norah not to auction that one.”)
(“Thank you, Y/N.”) She hugs you and you smile.
(“Okay, then! Two more hours till we open the doors!”) Miyuki shouts and you smile.
-
“Are you sure about this?”
“Of course.”
“It’s your call.” Natasha hums as she approaches the gallery with Tony.
-
You smile as visitors gush about your paintings. Exhibitions are still the one thing that you do make an appearance at. You were about to be approached when you see her. Natasha… she’s alone and looking at her portrait. Your heart beats faster and everything seemed to close in on you. FUCK. She’s here. DAMN IT!
“Boss?” Silvia calls out but you don’t hear her. “Y/N?” She shakes you and you finally look at her. “What’s wrong?”
“Air.” You simply answer and Silvia nods. She escorts you out of the gallery and Miyuki follows after.
-
You clutch your chest as you try to breathe normally.
“In and out, Y/N.” Silvia guides you through your sudden attack.
“Did something trigger it?”
“Not something.” You answer with hoarse voice then drink the water that Silvia gave you. “Someone.”
“Natasha?” You nod in confirmation. “Damn it.” You stop Silvia from going back inside.
“Don’t kick her out. Don’t be rude.”
“Then-“
“I’ll leave. I’ll come back tomorrow.” They nod and you sigh. “Tell them that I got sick or something. Just go.”
“You’ll be okay by yourself?” You nod and bid them goodbye. You walk back to the Ryokan to clear your head.
-
Natasha looks at the stage where Asuna got a hold of the mic.
(“I’m sorry to announce that Master Y/N cannot be here tonight.”) She hears disappointed murmurs go through the crowd. (“It seems that she suddenly got sick and had to leave early. She did say though that she’ll try her best to be here tomorrow.”) Asuna gives back the mic to the Dj and goes among the crowd again.
Natasha tries to find her and sees that Tony actually got to her first.
“Excuse me, Miss-?”
“Ah. Yuuki. Asuna Yuuki.” Natasha shakes her hand and they nod.
“What exactly happened to Master Y/N?”
“I don’t exactly know. Her bodyguards just told me that she got sick and left early.”
“Is she okay? Did something bad happen? Where is she-?” Tony gets ahold of her arm.
“Okay. Sorry for the sudden barrage miss Yuuki. We’ll be going now.” Tony drags Natasha away from Asuna.
-
I will not allow it anymore
You hurt me
That again and forget
Our past
Can't you hear
My chest throbbed
It's getting away from you
My feelings
-
You take a deep breath and fix your suit.
(“You ready, Y/N?”)You nod at Asuna and she opens the doors to your gallery once again. People immediately flock to you. They’re asking how you’re feeling. Some about the paintings. Some about the portrait.
“PEOPLE!” Silvia’s booming voice freeze them and she drags you away from them. (“Stop mobbing the master! She’ll talk to you if she’s feeling any better! Understood?”) They nod simultaneously and Miyuki gives you a glass of water.
“You okay?” You nod and drink the glass in one go.
“You sure about that?” You nod again and give the empty glass back to Miyuki.
“I’m fine now.” You tell them and go to a visitor.
-
You’ve managed to avoid both Tony and Natasha as you talk to everyone else and it’s the last day of your exhibition.
“Miss Y/LN.” You hum as Tony approaches you. “You’ve been avoiding me.”
“You’re with miss Romanoff.”
“Ah… do you not like her?” You scoff.
“It’s nothing.”
“She didn’t tell you?”
“Tell me what?” You sigh and wave your hand.
“As I promised, a million dollars.” He gives you a check and you shake your head.
“No. The exhibition is free for all. Keep it.”
“You sure?” You nod. “Then I’ll just have to bid all of your paintings.” You chuckle.
“And where will you put them?”
“Avengers’ Compound and Stark Industries.” You hum. He bids his goodbye and you smile.
-
You laugh as Tony bid 5 million on the last painting that Norah auctioned… he just spent 125 million dollars on all of your paintings.
“How about the portrait? A special gift for someone who just got you 125 million?” You go to the stage and Norah gives you the mic.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Stark. But that portrait will be donated, not bought.”
“Come on, Y/LN!” Silvia growls and you put up your hand to stop her. “125 million! Doesn’t that mean anything to you?”
“It means everything Mr. Stark. But that woman in those portraits also meant everything to me.” You get off the stage and get something from Miyuki.
“Instead of that, please accept this.” You give him the canvas that is covered.
“And this is?”
“A painting for her. I know she’s with you.”
“She had to leave early tonight because of an emergency mission.” You smile.
“And you can just half all of your bids, I don’t mind.”
“No. You earned those 125 million. Pepper will be happy with these pieces.” You hum.
“Mr. Stark.”
“Yeah?”
“Please tell her not to come looking for me again.” You bid him goodbye and leave.
-
Tony tried to find you again but he huffs in frustration. You were too good at hiding your own trail. He hoped to find you before Natasha gets back from her mission but as he hears the Quinjet land softly, he knew that he failed. He runs a hand through his hair and look at your paintings.
You really were a master.

PARTY FAVOURS I CHAPTER 29
First time reader click here
Tumblr media
Feels like this story is flopping. Is it flopping? Idk. This chapter is 100% plot and it is spooky. Cursed demon box. Helpful Stephen Strange and grumpy Wong. Hovering Bruce and Tony. Loki being a honorary Gen-Z. Found family but make it ✨superheroes✨.
Tumblr media
"That's a lot to unpack," Peter stated once I had given him the bare bones report of the situation at hand. "Uh, are you okay?" The boy was obviously upset at my predicament, placing a supportive hand on my shoulder.
"Kinda?" I offered, making space for Wanda and Pietro who decided to join me and Peter, away from the arguing adults. The mission discussion - an absolute disaster - started as soon as Peter had walked in. Evidently experienced in such matters, the boy ignored the bickering and came over to steal me from Bruce's clutches to peacefully finish his egg sandwich in the company of his peers.
"I wanted to ask if I could see your memory of that time," Wanda meekly offered me a piece of candy. I accepted it - sugar sweet sugar, how I love thee so! The witch continued with a smile: "I think it would be helpful to see what we're dealing with, magic-wise."
"Sure," I trusted her. "Just don't scramble what's left of my sanity, please," All of us laughed at my remark as I laid down on the cold floor with my head in Wanda's lap. Her powers felt like small brain zaps, tingles that began at the front of my forehead and ran down into my spine. I followed her instructions and thought about the times I remembered, finding the box, placing it into my closet, the nightmares. I had a mild headache by the time she was done; no grudges against her - Wanda tactfully avoided my private moments and looked only at the ones containing the artifact.
"You've gotten really good," I complimented her with pure adoration.
"Thank you," She blushed, smoothing back my stray hairs. "That stuff is really strong. I don't think you should go near the box," She admitted. "And Doc should take a look at you. You have a residue left. I don't think that's good either."
"Well, fuck," I said in muted resignation.
"Press F to pay respects," Pietro joked in an attempt to lighten the atmosphere.
"Your luck is almost as bad as mine," Peter pointed out.
I scoffed. "Well, if I see any spiders around, I'll be sure to stay away in case they happen to be radioactive OsCorp runaways."
All of us laughed. Despite the grim situation, I didn't feel doomed. I was surrounded by friends and my boyfriends and my bestie who happened to be a mythical omnipotent god- welp, once again, I was getting too emotional. Once the adults were done arguing, we could start making sense of this mess and hopefully clean it up before the monster is out of the box.
"Mortals," I heard Loki scoff. The next moment, the Asgardian sat down noisily next to me, pout on full display. "This house is a nightmare."
His expression - or the accidental use of a meme - sent me completely, tension leaving my body via copious amounts of nearly hysterical laughter. Through tears and hiccups, I saw Wanda cackle with me and Peter show the meme in question to Loki, noting that he had been once sent to time-out on top of the fridge by Tony himself. Soon, all of us were laughing, much to the displeasure of the adults.
"Children, what is the issue?" Thor asked, irritated.
"We're just waiting for you to be done with arguing," I spoke before Loki could start bitching about Thor calling him a child. "Then I can show Steve and Loki where exactly have I buried the box so Stephen can take me to the healers and get this thing out of me or whatever," I pointed out the most logical plan of action.
Two long strides and the sorcerer was standing over me, boom-boom-whooshing and generally making very pretty golden patterns to appear and land on top of me. Tony and Bruce anxiously hovered behind him, both of my boys concerned and ready to mother-hen me. Ugh, so disgustingly adorable. Wanda's hand encompassed mine - she was nervous.
Stephen took a solid five-minute silence break before coming to a final conclusion. "Wong can get rid of the residual traces of the artifact's influence," The sorcerer announced curtly. "It's good you got rid of the artifact, a few more months and you would have started slipping into insanity if the magic within it was not released," He explained, slowly reaching out a hand to place it on top of my head. I wasn't sure if it was a gesture meant to bring comfort or another diagnostic test but leaned into the touch nonetheless. "Tell me, did you have any behavioral... Disturbances after...?" He trailed off.
I chewed on my lip, evaluating. "I honestly don't know. I've always been kind of an asshole," Honesty was the best policy. "Nothing seems out of order, sleepwalking aside."
"I see," Strange gave me a tight-lipped smile. "Perhaps, it was your stubborn nature that forbade the artifact from corrupting your mind completely. As evidenced by Captain Rogers, even undesirable character traits bring good into this world now and then."
That seemed a little bit hostile. I frowned, giving a questioning look to a frowning Loki.
"Speaking from experience?" Not the one to hold back upon witnessing first-grade bullshit, I withdrew from Stephen's touch, raising a sarcastic eyebrow.
Surprising everyone, the man laughed soundly, eyes crinkling at the corners. "I most certainly do," Shooting me a positively mischievous wink. I felt like I was missing something.
The room's inhabitants slowly ticked out in pairs and threes, eager to complete their assigned tasks. Loki had insisted on coming along to the sanctum with me, even almost getting up in Stephen's face, but Bruce - out of all people - managed to calm the Asgardian down, and together we convinced him his magic would be considerably more useful during the retrieval of the cursed box. Loki was worried - everyone with a pair of functional eyes could see that the spiky attitude was his way of showing he cared about me, which made my insides briefly turn to mush. I didn't expect him to take the title of my best friend so seriously and I definitely was not complaining.
Tony was the last to leave, jittery and shaky, clutching me like it was his last time seeing me, kissing me hungrily in front of everyone. The joke or two he made were weak ghosts of his usual sharp snark.
"I love you and I'll be back soon," I whispered into his ear, feeling him freeze and his fingertips dig almost painfully into my sides. Louder, I repeated: "Not planning on dying any time soon, y'all gotta chill. Let's go, doc?" I addressed the tall sorcerer who was tactfully pretending to be busy with his smartphone.
Wanda pressed a duffle bag into my hands mouthing "clean clothes" a split second before Stephen opened a portal and with a great deal of curiosity, I stepped through it, eyes immediately drawn to the dimly lit space filled with books and antiques. So many books, so many unusual trinkets. The chandelier that hung over our heads rivaled the ones I'd seen in million-dollar-homes of dad's friends.
"Follow me," Stephen extended an arm in the direction of a smaller door, "Please do not touch anything."
I walked a pace behind him, satisfying my curiosity by looking around like a child in a candy store. The air smelled different in the Sanctum, almost as familiar as Loki's magic but less frosty... Warmer. A dash of red fabric swished from somewhere towards me; I giggled. The Cloak of Levitation liked me - not nearly as much as it liked Peter though - so I brushed my fingertips along the fabric, greeting it quietly. Talking loudly in this building was out of the question. I felt like any moment, a disgruntled librarian would appear to chastise me for making noise.
"Strange," A short Asian man appeared, book in hand and looking none too happy. Guess that's the librarian... "I got your text. The room next to yours is prepared for the ritual," The man I assumed to be Wong gave me a curt nod in the way of greeting, doing a quick 180° and walking us back to a small but tastefully decorated room with a single cot in the middle. It was pleasantly warm, a small fire lit in the fireplace, willowy smoke of incense rising from a few strategically placed sticks.
"The bathroom is that way. I'm afraid you'll have to be fully nude for the procedure," Strange declared apologetically, pointing to a door hidden behind the divide.
I snorted, but of course, the weird voodoo shit would require me to be naked. Not that I was embarrassed or anything but still. Tony would have a field day. Locating a chair, I dumped my duffle bag on it, flying out of my hoodie and sweatpants in record time. My underwear and socks followed, feet unpleasantly chilly despite the carpeted floor. I ran a hand over the faint bruises on my hips, evidence of last night, fondly - either Tony or Stephen had left marks on my body and that was... It was great. I loved it, drugs or not.
I heard someone clear their throat and turned around, nearly cracking up at the way both men suddenly averted their gazes, blush riding high on their cheeks. I snorted: "I'm hot, what else is new?"
Wong shook his head, busying himself with some sort of a book; Stephen lingered, eyes fixated on the very same bruises. His tongue darted out, wetting the plush of his bottom lip, and damn, this wasn't the time to get horny. I shook my head and with that, the sorcerer caught himself too, mutely motioning me to lay down on the cot.
"Whenever you're done eye-fucking each other," Wong piped up sarcastically - wow, I liked this man already. Stephen grumbled something quiet and rude, provoking another snort from me.
I followed their instructions - shortly after the Asian man began reading - or rather singing - something in a language I didn't know, I felt myself fall into a deep sleep. Or, I thought I was falling asleep. At one point, my eyes opened to an empty room, a thin sheet covering my bare body, and a silence that made chills run down my spine.
"Stephen?" I called out. I sounded like I was underwater to my own ears. "Wong?"
I was met with silence so deafening, I had no choice but to sit up and look around. The fire was burning strong in the fireplace, several logs blackened from it as sparks flew. It took a second for me to realize it made no sound - there was no crackling. Something was very wrong, the dread was creeping up on me.
Very familiar dread.
With the sheet firmly wrapped around me, I hopped off the cot, suddenly noticing the drawings on my arms, my legs. I was covered in runes similar to the ones I had seen on the cursed box - and my memories weren't missing. As clear as day, I recalled messing around with the box, debating on opening it, taking it out of my room only to find it back on my desk in the morning, some serious Anabelle shit.
I jumped as the floorboards cracked somewhere in the house. Every logical thought I had, backed up by every horror movie I had ever watched, screamed at me to NOT go towards the creepy noise; like moth to a flame, I was drawn in and couldn't resist the unnatural urge to investigate it. On silent feet, I padded out of the room, desperately trying not to think about the lonely, dark hallways filled with strange ancient objects. My steps made no noise.
On the couch, in the main room we'd arrived, sitting lazily, was Tony. I'd recognize his hair anywhere - and the Led Zep tee, old, frayed edges and loose threads. "Tony?" I asked hopefully, trying to make sense of this...
He turned around.
It wasn't Tony. Whatever it was, it wore Tony's face, it held his brown eyes and crow's feet around them - it wasn't him. Wrong, like the lack of sound in this place, misplaced and unnatural. The doe browns didn't sparkle, lifeless, dull color of dried mud. As much as I wanted to go and bury my face in his chest, my limbs filled with lead, my whole body screaming "DANGER".
The impostor kept quiet which only solidified my suspicions. Real Tony would be running his mouth already, poking fun at my impression of a sheet ghost.
"Princess?" The... Thing asked in Tony's voice, but it fell flat and monotone.
"Whatever you are, you sure as Hell ain't Tony," I stated firmly, hoping for some answers. "What the fuck?"
Not-Tony's face changed, familiar features twisting into something sinister, the malice making me sick to my stomach. The creature stood up, causing my feet to take an involuntary step back as he advanced slowly.
"You have no choice but to submit," The Thing replied calmly. "You're not getting out of here. Not even your little Asgardian pet god can save you," Its tone was absolutely flat. I would have thought the thing was a robot if not for the obvious involvement of magic in this situation. Its words filled me with dread as thick as molten lava; unfortunately for the creature, unlocking my memories gave me enough rational balance to be acutely aware of it and therefore, able to fight it.
I could fight it. I didn't know how exactly, but I could resist it. "That's a really bold thing to say for something that... What even are you? Magical STD?" As my brain desperately focused on finding a solution to a problem I didn't know all the details of, my mouth had a mind of its own.
The creature growled, a far more primal noise than a human could make. "You don't know what you're up against, child. I am one for we are many," Suddenly, the room was filled with shadows as if someone had turned off all the lights and cranked up the moon to be the brightest it ever was. The shadows moved, oozed, motion sinister without any light to back it up.
I had no choice but to pucker up. Nobody was coming to rescue me; in fact, I always have taken pride in being a self-saving princess. Damsel in distress wasn't really my style. The hunch in my shoulders disappeared, giving way to a stubborn and stiff expectation of the upcoming altercation, hands bailed in fists.
"I mean, like Legion the demon from the Bible?" I recalled what little I knew from Wikipedia. "I mean, I'm agnostic myself, but if you feel like identifying with that, you should probably see a therapist."
The entity growled, shadows gathering around it like fabric on a string, and lunged. Paralyzed by sudden blinding, deafening fear, I turned tail and ran.

Essential Avengers: Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1-3
Tumblr media
May, 1984
THE WAR BEGINS
Oof, here we go.
Just gotta replicate the pace that let me do the Hawkeye miniseries in one go, three times in a row.
This is probably too much effort considering its Secret Wars (or more accurately Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars) and maybe there’s not going to be a lot of big changes from this in the Avengers book to really justify it.
But we’re getting Jim Shooter writing the Avengers and his non-consecutive runs were a lot better than I had remembered. And it continues the theme he had from the Avengers book.
It just makes sense in a nonsense way to cover this story.
Last relevant time in Avengers! Acting Completely Normal Vision warned the Avengers about some weird, possibly hostile energy surges right in time for an energy surge to surge energetically in Central Park.
When the Avengers went to investigate, they found a weird structure that looked like a techy coliseum maybe. When some of the Avengers wandered into it (apparently the most bankable Avengers? Sucks to be Vision and Wanda, shrug) they vanished.
In the next issue, after several days, these heroes returned, speaking of a secret war they fought. Weird stuff like She-Hulk taking the Thing’s place on the Fantastic Four happened. In other books, Spidey got a cool new suit.
Would you know more?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After being raptured in their various books, the missing superheroes all end up on one of those distinctive structures like the one that appeared in Central Park, except IN SPACE.
Its cool that the Avengers will have some company.
We’ve got a terrific 3/4ths of the Fantastic Four, the X-Men (including Lockheed but not including Kitty Pryde for some reason), the Avengers, Iron Man, Spider-Man, the totally Articulate Hulk, and hilariously Magneto is also here.
Maybe Secret Wars is just setting up the most awkward moment in the universe, as a prank show.
I think I’d enjoy a big event that turned out to be a prank show at the last minute. The fan discontent. Imagine.
Everyone introduces themselves to each other but mostly the audience and Ben Grimm claims his new codename as the Easter Bunny.
Checking, marvel wiki doesn’t have Easter Bunny listed as one of Ben’s known aliases. Cowards.
Looking up into space, Captain America spots another one of the totally cool constructs and Professor X scans that it contains EEEEEEEVIL.
Specifically Amora the Enchantress, Ultron, the Wrecking Crew, the Absorbing Man, the Lizard, VICTOR VON DOOOOOM, Kang the Conqueror, Doctor Octopus, and Molecule Man. Also, hilariously, Galactus is there.
I’m more convinced than ever that this is a prank show.
You know what would be more hilarious? If Punisher ended up on this construct.
The distribution of villains is kind of odd though. Galactus and Doctor Doom map to the FF. Doctor Octopus and the Lizard to Spider-Man. Ultron, Molecule Man, and Kang are Avengers foes. The Absorbing Man and the Wrecking Crew can go a couple ways but started off as Thor villains. And Amora is usually a Thor villain but supposedly has chilled out around this time or at least is less of a pain than her horny sister.
No X-Men villains. Because Magneto is chilling with them in the generally heroic pod.
Also, all the heroes were raptured from Earth while the villains were grabbed from Earth, from space, from Asgard, resurrected just to be here, or from the FUTURE.
I know marketing is wagging the dog but be consistent, secret organizer who we don’t know yet.
The Thing points out that Magnet is off-sides, re: being in the hero construct, and Magneto is like ‘hey, chill out dudes’ and denies specifically doing murders.
Magneto: “I know not what power transported me here from my secret lair, nor why I was placed among you -- but I find it more appropriate to ask why such as you were judged fit to be placed in my presence!”
Oof.
Burn.
Then the conversation is put on halt on account of the wildest shit any of them have ever seen.
Tumblr media
An entire galaxy vanishes but probably not due to a wave of anti-matter.
Thor: “It’s gone! Gone -- ! Swept away like dust before some unseen, giant hand!”
And then around that last star left unswept, various chunks merge together to form some sort of world, perhaps for battle.
A nice touch for later is that you can definitely see that one of the chunks is a stray chunk of city.
Tumblr media
Some of the villains start squabbling because close quarters, ego, etc.
But Ultron goes hey we’re allowed to fight? I’m the best at that.
Ultron: “I am Ultron! I do not understand the events transpiring! I do not understand how I came to be resurrected... nor how I came to be here! Nothing computes... Insignificant! I am Ultron! My purpose is to slay that which lives. You are all living things, ergo -- Ultron must destroy you!”
With the benefit of having read all the Avengers up to now, I feel that Ultron got up on the wrong side of the resurrection a little.
He’s not not like this but he’s not usually this turned on?
(Then again, maybe he just came back cranky)
DOOM grabs and shakes Molecule Man to do something about this because given enough time even the mighty DOOM might fall before Ultron.
Ultron is famously annoying to defeat, what with that adamantium.
But Molecule Man is in therapy after the Avengers kicked his shit and Tigra yelled at him for being a punk. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone.
So Doom with all his brilliant genius tells MM a cool way to help out that won’t hurt anyone. Directly.
Using his Molecule Man power over molecules to lightly toss Ultron into Galactus.
So that Galactus goes ‘who the fuck scuffed my boots’ and rips out all the energy in Ultron’s Ultron.
He can do that.
Why wouldn’t he? If he can do that to a planet, he can do it to a pissbaby robot. Even one apparently containing more power than an atom bomb.
Then, because this is one of those plots where things are always thenning, a rift opens in the nothingness of space and a heavenly esque light shines out. A warbly voice commands the action figures beat each other up.
I mean. Its more like
Tumblr media
The Beyonder: “I am from beyond! Slay your enemies and all you desire shall be yours! Nothing you dream of is impossible for me to accomplish!”
But you have to admire that this toy commercial of a comic book is being honest and upfront about being a story where action figures bonk off of each other.
Galactus just hears ‘i can finally shake off these persistent forever munchies’ and flies off to demand prepayment for action figure bonking, with DOOM following behind him.
The Beyonder speaks up warning Galactus that hey, personal space. And that a guy that can effortlessly wipe out a galaxy is gonna have a sweet barrier but Galactus wants the hunger pangs gone and does not listen.
DOOM recognizes a bad idea when he sees one once in a while and hangs back but still gets blown out of space by the force of Galactus bonking off the Beyonder’s barriers.
Captain America: “They were swatted back like flies!”
Professor X: “To the Beyonder, even Galactus is less than a fly, Captain!”
Interruption dealt with, the Beyonder gets the show on the road and sends the two constructs to different parts of the patchwork planet.
The Marvel Super Heroes And Magneto land on some hill and quickly make sure that there are no villains excepting Magneto around.
With Magneto around, the non-X-Men raise an objection to Magneto being around.
He sank a Russian submarine with all hands back in X-Men #150 but he insists that it was self-defense and also they started it.
The X-Men’s position is ‘hey he’s a jerk but he’s our jerk plus we could use his help? The bad guys get GALACTUS, how is that fair?’
Well, they don’t say it but they’re probably thinking it.
Tumblr media
And Hawkeye decides to be a little racist today.
Hawkeye: “You mutants stick together, huh? Well, sticking to a blood-soaked maniac like him doesn’t speak well of you, pal!”
Dude, Clint. Your dear old friend is Wanda.
Wait, why ISN’T Wanda here? Did the toy people really not want her? Fools. Her husband is toyetic as all get out.
Also, point of order, Wolverine? If anyone qualifies as ‘hey he’s a jerk but he’s our jerk!’ here its you.
Johnny “good life choices” Storm decides he’ll just kick Magneto’s ass and end the debate but yeah. Yeah, no. Magneto makes a fool of him.
And then Magneto decides eff this noise and flies off.
With Magneto alienated (good job, guys), Professor X decides this group needs some dang leadership and throws a nomination to Reed Richards. Reed defers since he’s thinking of Sue, left at home and not able to participate in the event.
Wasp, the cool leader of the Avengers, nominates instead Captain America.
Wasp: “We’re off in a strange land, up to our ears in a little secret war that may decide the fate of the universe! Some people don’t know me well! They might have doubts... and there’s no room for that!”
I’m baffled that there’s people here who don’t know Wasp who has been heroing since the 60s but sure. Cap(tain America) probably gets more crossovers and whatever.
I mean, heck, we’re talking a group of heroes consisting of the Avengers (who she already leads), the Fantastic Three (who she’s well acquainted with), and the X-Men (who I’m sure she’s met, although awkwardly its going to later be revealed that Wasp is in the Hellfire Club, but only the sex parts).
And I guess Wolverine’s extensive backstory with Cap doesn’t exist yet because Wolverine isn’t keen on him being the leader, describing him as the least of the assembled heroes. When Hawkeye is right there!
I kid because I love.
Meanwhile, DOOM wakes up adjacent to Galactus ankle and heads to a nearby fortress which he correctly assumes is where the villains have ended up.
Wait, the heroes get beamed down to a random hill while the villains get sent to an advanced fortress with weaponry and we later learn vehicles sold separately?
Kinda stacking the deck, the Beyonder.
You gave the villains GALACTUS and A FORTRESS PLAYSET right out of the gate.
The other villains tell Doom that they’ve (mostly) decided that he should be their leader. But Doom has bigger fish to fry than the prizes that the Beyonder is offering.
In typical Doomesque fashion, he wants the whole kettle. But the other villains what with their petty concerns think he’s too afraid to fight.
So he ditches.
He goes to steal-borrow a spaceship and even though he hates the thought, takes off to go talk to Richards. And then Kang shoots him out of the sky with a GIANT GUN THAT THE VILLAIN FORTRESS ALSO HAS? to stop him from allying with the heroes.
Said (marvel super) heroes see the distant explosion and fly as a group in the most hilarious way possible to check it out.
Tumblr media
God, I have always loved this image. Its squished down into the bottom third of the page but its a delight.
They find Doom sprawled in the crash site, rambling that he’ll only speak to RICHARRRRRDS and about the Beyonder’s power. But Cap offends Doom mightily but offering him a hand up and because Doom sees pity in Cap and RICHARRRRRRDS eyes.
So he blasts the heroes and fucks off.
How very Bakugou of him.
And right as the heroes recover from that, a bunch of villains arrive to get this secret war started.
Tumblr media
I have a fondness for this particular issue. For a long while, issue 1 was the only issue of Secret Wars I could find. So I just had the start of this story with all these non-Spider-Man non-X-Men heroes I barely knew cliffhangering into an attack by villains I really didn’t recognize except for Doc Ock and the Lizard.
It was a window into another side of the Marvel Universe. And for child me, this first issue worked perfectly to intrigue me. All these characters, the very straightforward conflict, all the complications that immediately pop up like Magneto, Galactus, and Doom. Alas, small child resources.

June, 1984
PRISONERS of War!
The heroes react slowly to the sudden villain attack but thankfully, the villains aren’t working together well. Unthankfully, half of the heroes were already knocked out by the first attack.
Meanwhile, over at Doctor Doom’s side of the plot, he flies back over to where Galactus just in time to see him finally rouse from being slapped down by the Beyonder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Galactus floats to his feet and wanders off.
Doom: “He ignored me! As though I were a gnat buzzing at his feet! And so I am... Just as all of us, even Galactus himself, are but insects to the all-powerful Beyonder! Thus, the others have chosen to play the Beyonder’s simple game -- thereby, in effect, paying homage to him. Should I, too, pay homage? Should I worship at the feet of this god-like being -- or chose another path... one only Doom would dare!”
I think anyone that knows Doom knows which option he’s gonna choose.
He heads back to the villain fortress and finds Ultron’s deactivated body and decides Doom can use this.
Meanwhile, back at the first secret battle of the secret war, the heroes rally and start fighting back under Cap(tain America)’s leadership.
She-Hulk even gets a designated girl fight with the only female villain on the villain team.
I’d complain, I would. But at least She-Hulk isn’t the only heroine on the hero side.
She-Hulk: “Hiya! I’m the She-Hulk! You must be the Enchantress! Gee, I’ve heard so much about you -- ! You’re a not-nice lady!”
Enchantress: “A green woman? Is there no end to the varieties of mortals?”
The Enchantress magic slaps She-Hulk away and comments that she could crush She-Hulk physically but its beneath her.
Yeah, all Asgardians have some level of super strength, that’s right. Even the squishy wizards.
But all She-Hulk heard was, ‘someone I can really punch!’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She-Hulk: “I don’t often duke it out with someone solid enough to really unload on -- and slow enough to let me! Oh, wow! That was, like tubular, you know -- to the max!”
Uh. Jen, are you okay? Did you have a stroke? You don’t usually talk so much in Mario World secret world levels.
I think maybe Jim Shooter didn’t have a good grasp on her. I don’t think he’s ever written for her. And the other heroes mostly don’t vary too much from generic hero speaking patterns. Add some smart for smart characters, add some rude to Wolverine, and so on.
The battle wraps up with Kang, the Enchantress, and the Wrecking Crew captured and the rest of the villains fleeing when the battle didn’t go their way.
Cap sends Storm off to scout for a cool playset that they can use as shelter and she does so, noting that the winds on Battleworld are super easy to control. Like Battleworld was created to create ideal fighting conditions for everyone. Pretty neat, the Beyonder.
Storm finds a particularly rad fortress (”Bigger than fifty-four and a half Pentagons, I’d estimate!” Wow!) and the heroes move in.
I unironically enjoy how toyetic this story is with the fortresses and the vehicles and the weapons. Because I’m almost positive that Mattel barely capitalized on it.
There were only two playsets. Pitiful.
Over in their new headquarters, Reed stashes the captured villains in some form of psychostasis which “works by controlling aggression through brainwave modulation!”
He also sticks Enchantress in a healing pod to address that nasty case of being She-Hulked right in the face. Nothing will salve her ego though.
Captain America: “It’s no wonder that the name Mister Fantastic is renowned for compassion as well as courage! You give added meaning to the word hero, Richards!”
Whenever someone loudly announces that Reed is super compassionate, it makes me feel like they’re overcompensating.
Nobody ever makes note of, say, Captain America’s compassion.
With the prisoners (of war? Is that the whole reason for the title?) accommodated, Cap calls everyone for a meeting in a cool meeting dome he found which has a small waterfall for aesthetic and so everyone has to yell to be heard.
Tumblr media
Wolverine yells that they should mop up the rest of the villains and get this over with.
Not mentioning that in order to “win it” they’d have to kill the villains, which none of the heroes have shown any interest in doing so far.
Cap(tain America) replies that A) planet big and they have no idea where the villains got to. And B) the remaining villains slash antagonists are Galactus, Doctor Doom, Molecule Man, Doctor Octopus, the Wrecker, the Absorbing Man, and Magneto. Not really people you mop up.
In a fun logistics bit, Cap sends out a patrol to make sure the area is secure but he also sends out two additional groups to find  if there are any places in this fortress they can sleep and whether there's any... food.
Makes me imagine a Secret Survival War where the sides have to wrestle over limited resources.
Hours later, the villains that escaped the fracas arrive back at their fortress.
I’m sort of confused here.
Maybe it took so long because they had to make sure they weren’t followed. Or maybe because they didn’t have the sweet tripod vehicle anymore. But think about the flow of events of: everyone beamed down to Battleworld > Doom ditches the villains and gets shot down > heroes investigate and Doom ditches > villains show up for cliffhanger fight.
The villain fortress should be pretty close to where that fight took place. And then the heroes find a nearby fortress of their own so their fortress should be pretty close to the villain fortress. Maybe not in the same neighborhood but surely the same zip code.
Anyway, they find that while they were gone, Doom swanned in and renamed the place the Doombase.
If they have problems with it, they can talk to his Ultron.
Which I’m surprised he didn’t rename Doomtron.
Doom also tells them that he’s in charge now.
Absorbing Man: “Aw! Who gives a hoot! I need a meal an’ sleep! You wanna be in charge, Doom? Okay by me!”
If you think about it, this is just some steps added what the villains wanted all along.
They wanted Doom to be their leader but he told them he had bigger fish to fry and fucked off. Now he’s fucked back on and told them all that he’s their leader. They initially object before reconsidering due to Doomtron but, yeah, its all gone full circle.
Doom is a lot more cordial to Molecule Man though.
Doom: “Molecule Man... uh, Mr. Reece, I believe it is? I trust you were not inconvenienced.”
Molecule Man: “Well, being absolute master of molecules I can just assimilate molecules when I want, so I never have to be hungry, and I can just shoo away dirt molecules, so I’m always nice and clean -- but I am tired!”
Doom: “I have prepared a special chamber for you! I hope you like it!”
Molecule Man: “If not, I can always reconstruct the molecules -- !”
Heh.
Nice to see Jim Shooter able to follow up on the trajectory he sent Molecule Man on.
The rest of the villains head off but Doctor Octopus, the only other brain cell in this group, hangs back to talk to DOOM.
He wants to know what he plans to do about Galactus and then shows Doom on the biggest screen TV that Galactus is standing on a mountain glowing with an awesome power.
Doom just retorts that his plans are for his forces to triumph.
Doctor Octopus: Something tells me he’s got ambitions that dwarf merely triumphing in the Beyonder’s little contest! The question is whether he will destroy us in trying to achieve them -- or immediately after fulfilling them?!
Like I said, the only other brain cell in this group.
Meanwhile, while Magneto secretly sneaks into the hero fortress for Reasons, the heroes have a quiet moment that lets this Secret Wars biz really sink in.
Wasp: “I’d be having tea in my studio now, Jenny... And lunch on my patio tomorrow... This... um... situation we’re in... is kind of... much, you know? I feel there’s just a little thin wall inside me holding back a flood of despair!”
Its a nice touch, if intentional, that Wasp only admits this kind of thing now that she’s passed off the leadership responsibilities to Captain America. Its been a recurring character beat that she’s been keeping these sorts of worries to herself as chairwoman.
Over in another part of the fortress, Cyclops complains that he was right in the middle of his dang honeymoon when he was yanked into this event.
Cyclops: “I don’t know about you, Richards, but more than angry or afraid, I feel cheated! I -- I was on the verge of real happiness...”
Oof. This really sets the tone for his marriage with Madelyne Pryor.
Spider-Man and the Human Torch even have a little conversation.
Spider-Man: “You mean it doesn’t shake you, Torch, being here? What if we don’t get home?”
Human Torch: “The Fantastic Four have been off on space missions a couple of times, Spider-Man! We’ll get back! Believe me!”
I like when they’re friends.
So, I’m not sure what Magneto’s plan actually was. He was going to sabotage the fortress’ fusion generator as a distraction but Spider-Man’s Spider-Sense Spider-Alerts him to shenanigans afoot and he runs off to the power plant while Johnny Storm goes to get the other heroes.
Magneto decides to abandon whatever his plan was and captures Wasp as a consolation prize.
Tumblr media
Gasp, another prisoner of war!
The Thing tries to give chase but inexplicably turns back to normal, smooth skinned Ben Grimm.
Also, Magneto escapes with the Wasp.
It’s like the aardvark says, you can get what you want and still not be happy.
Captain Marvel is holding the randomly anti-mutant ball for Hawkeye here and comments that none of the X-Men showed up to help stop Magneto.
Cap(tain America) tells her to belay that.
Captain America: “Let’s keep our minds on solving problems, not creating more!”
And they can’t even go after Magneto or rescue the Wasp right now because they have bigger problems: Galactus glowing with an awesome power and a massive storm that’s forming on Battleworld.
Tumblr media
July, 1984
TEMPEST WITHOUT, CRISIS WITHIN!
The Beyonder has thrown in a nice stage hazard to keep things fresh in the form of a massive storm raging on Battleworld, with lighting that shatters mountains and winds that could tear someone’s limbs clean off.
Or perhaps its the unintentional result of just slapping a planet together out of random stuff you have lying around. The climate must be shot to shit.
I like it either way. Secret Wars has a lot of very toyetic collisions between groups of characters so its nice when Battleworld itself manages to be an obstacle.
Over in his giant U-shaped fortress, Magneto finally unwraps Wasp from the ball of random metal crap he has her in.
He lets her wander around until she finds him so that he can be all casual and eating a space scone.
Magneto: “Do not bother trying to attack me, my dear! My person is magnetically shielded!”
Wasp: “Well, la-de-da!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wasp: -blows up his space scone- “You think I have to strike at you directly to hurt you, monster?”
Hilarious spite, thy name is Janet van Dyne.
She also makes the point that magnetic shielding or no, she could bring this whole room down. Her being able to knock over a small house with her pew pew hasn’t stopped being true.
Magneto hastens to ask her not to do that because neither of them want to be out in the storm outside.
Besides, he just wants to talk! And flirt!
Magneto: “You are obviously a woman of intelligence and understanding as well as great beauty -- and I am not the monster you believe I am -- which is precisely what I wish to discuss!”
Wasp: “Oh? My intelligence, understanding and beauty or your non-monsterhood?”
Magneto: “Why... both!”
Back at the hero base (which is apparently ROUGHLY THE SIZE OF CHICAGO?? I want that playset), the storm has almost completely flooded the area, leaving just the top dome and such poking above the water.
The storm keeps dropping chunks of mountain at the base but Thor is standing on top, protecting it while grinning like a loon.
Captain Marvel even speculates that Thor could calm the storm but is whipping it up into a greater frenzy instead. Those storm gods, amirite?
Hawkeye is also standing by, with his explosive arrow, thinking to himself that if Thor fails, Hawkeye will totally save the day.
I don’t know whether that’s sad or endearing.
Mostly though he’s trying to distract himself from thinking about the new wife he left behind.
Cap, Reed, and Hulk are watching the villain base because apparently they do know where it is. The storm is keeping the villains in too but Cap figures they’ll pull one desperate attack as soon as the storm breaks.
They’ve already lost four of their dudes. Plus, Galactus isn’t a team player.
Spider-Man is just swinging around, enjoying how good for swinging the random technological pipes and tubes and whatsits are when he stumbles upon the X-Men having a secret meeting.
Professor X has decided, possibly on the basis of two (2) rude comments from Hawkeye and Captain Marvel, that the X-Men just don’t belong here and that they’d be better off going and teaming up with Magneto.
This... sure is a take.
Rogue comments that the Avengers don’t trust her because of that time she kicked their asses collectively. Which, hey, very possibly. They haven’t really had a thing to say about you though. They’ve mostly been grouchy about Magneto.
Which is kinda born out by the way he tried to blow up their base and definitely kidnapped the Wasp?? And is even now aggressively eating scones at her?
That’s the Magneto you guys want to go join because he’s more your people than the Fantastic Avengers and friends are?
You know, there’s a pattern I sometimes see with the X-Men where they loudly insist that the other superheroes don’t help them and don’t care about mutant stuff while at the same time doing shit like this.
“Should we get Reed Richards, smartest dick in the world to help with the legacy virus or the techno-organic virus Stryfe shot into Xavier? NAHHHH Beast can handle it.”
“Should we stick with the other superheroes or go hang with Magneto instead in a cool mutants only U-shaped fortress? Well, U is the coolest letter that isn’t X...”
If you squint, you can definitely see Krakoa all the way in the future.
Anyway, Spider-Man overheard all of this and goes ‘I’M TELLING!’
Wolverine tries to tell him that snitches get stitches but the thing is?
Spider-Man is ridiculous. He’s a ridiculously good combination of skills and powers which lets him make chumps out of entire groups at a time.
He’s embarrassed the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and now he’s about to embarrass the X-Men.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After making them all feel foolish, Spider-Man gets away and goes to tell Reed what that doody-head Xavier said when Xavier uses his psychic powers to just wipe the entire encounter out of Spider-Man’s memory.
Yeah, it’s to cover their imminent blowing off but also? I don’t think he wants anyone else to find out how badly his X-Men just got stomped.
Psychics are too OP, I tell you what.
In fairness IN FAIRNESS, the X-Men kind of have the right to fuck right off if they wish. I don’t even know what it had to be in secret. In fact, doing it in secret is a massive dick move of its own for reasons.
What would the Fantastic Avengers have done if the X-Men had just said ‘hey we’re heading out’? Would they have put them in stasis tube jail? I doubt it.
Professor X made the decision to handle this the stupidest way for whatever reason. That scamp.
Speaking of Magneto, he’s over at the U-Lair turning down a partnership offer from DOOM. So, hey, he has standards.
Wasp has become less ‘i’ll blow up this room and your breakfast’ about him over the course of whatever the hell they discussed in their offscreen chat.
Magneto even starts to make out with her and Wasp is like ehhhhhhhhhh what the fuck why not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why is this happening?
I guess he has a...................... magnetic personality?
Eh? Eh??
No, but seriously, I do have a theory that I heard someplace but it’ll have to wait.
What’s weird is that there’s a Marvel What If about some spinoff babies that come about if the heroes and villains got stuck on Battleworld and never managed to leave.
Wasp has a son with Human Torch. Which is pretty weird and comes from nowhere. I guess a lot can happen during a massive time skip. My point being though, its weird that they didn’t have a Wasp/Magneto baby instead given the weird chemistry they have here.
Meanwhile, over at DOOMBASE, DOOM has some women in giant tubes.
That’s So Doom.
Doctor Doom: “All is ready -- ! This alien technology, so rich, so subtle... so easily harnessed to serve my purpose... Energy, tapped from the raging tempest... And two mortal subjects who dare to gamble for power -- knowing that to lose is death, for truly, here I shall test the limits of power a human body can contain! With the throwing of a switch... so -- the die is cast! Hear me -- ! Power must be seized -- ! Crave it! Welcome it! Drink it in, despite the pain... or it will destroy you.”
And thus are Volcana and Titania created!
Tumblr media
Talk about lasting effects of Secret Wars! Titania is going to be around forever! Mostly annoying She-Hulk!
Where did Doom find two random women to give superpowers?
Denver, Colorado.
No, seriously.
That city chunk we saw as Battleworld formed? That’s Denver, Colorado, USA, EARTH.
Why isn’t there a miniseries or one-shot about a normal ass civilian from Denver having to deal with OH MY GOD WHERE DID EARTH GO?
I actually read an interesting thing re: this scene. It exists because Mattel asked Marvel to introduce some new female characters so Shooter wrote in these two and a third who I’ll get to when I do.
Mattel then promptly used none of these characters for the associated toyline.
The toyline, in fact, used none female characters at all. It made toys of characters who weren’t in the story but did not have a single female character.
So its very weird that they asked Marvel to introduce some but I’m not going to knock the results.
Doom introduces these two new characters to the other villains.
Hilariously, Absorbing Man guesses that Doctor Doom just made women from scratch. Because doesn’t it sound like something he could do?
Volcana and Molecule Man immediately hit it off, her being attracted to his sensitivity and him being attracted to... positive attention at all, I guess?
He muses that he could easily stop the storm outside, because molecules, but his therapist told him to let nature take its course. “Unless Doom asks me to!”
And Titania and Absorbing Man. They don’t hit it off. She either wants to hit him or hit that and its not clear and it might be both.
(Spoilers: Its both)
Titania: “You! Absorbing Man! You look like the toughest man here! Get up!”
Absorbing Man: “Whatcha got in mind?”
Titania: “I’m going to do anything I want to you! Everything I always wanted to do to everybody who used to be bigger and stronger than me! Maybe I’ll just play with you... or maybe I’ll make you eat dirt... or maybe...”
Absorbing Man: “Woman, if you got somethin’ to prove, prove it tomorrow against the guys we’re fightin’!”
Titania: “You’re backing down?”
Absorbing Man: “Nope! I just ain’t getting up! I got nothin’ to prove... to a dame!”
Would you believe that they become one of the healthiest and most stable romantic relationships in Marvel?
Speaking of weird relationships, back over at hero base, Thor goes and pops the lid on Enchanteress’ healing tube because he’s bored and wants to talk to a peer. A god peer.
Enchantress is at first more characteristically worried about what her face looks like after being She-Hulked.
Tumblr media
But she then creates a portal so she and Thor can go have a chat.
Later, it’s morning and Hulk has been too busy stressing over losing his Banner smarts to actually keep watch or wake up Cap for watch like he was supposed to.
So when the villains ram an airship into the hero base, the heroes are not at all prepared.
Titania hurls a giant slab of wall through the room the Terrific Three are sharing, breaking Johnny Torch’s arm and ribs and knocking out the other two. He manages to get himself and co out of danger by melting through the floor.
Meanwhile, She-Hulk is carrying a big heavy as she’s been doing since the previous night and is caught unaware by Volcana who blasts her off her feet and then collapses the room on top of her.
Doctor Octopus knocks out Captain Marvel who is in the hot springs dome but gets chased away by Hawkeye, claiming that long-range firepower is his weakness.
I’m stunned at the implication that Doc Ock is one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous foes but could be scared off by Hawkeye while Spider-Man could pretty easily drop Clint’s ass. There’s some rock-paper-scissors nonsense at play here.
Spider-Man and Iron Man are also taken unawares by Ultron but manage to hide under some rubble.
Hulk leaps into the fray at Molecule Man and Doom but Cap convinces him to fall back to a defensible position.
The villains reconvene with all the captured villains freed except Enchantress (since she fucked off to have a chat with Thor) and the heroes scattered and buried under various rubbles. How the fortunes of Secret War turn.
Sure would have been nice if the X-Men had been around to help or if they mentioned they wouldn’t be. Sure would have been.
Doom: “We have accomplished much here today! And to finish it, we shall level this place so that no stone remains on stone!”
No wonder Mattel didn’t make a playset of this base! Dammit Doom, you’re ruining the merchandising!

Bucky x reader
The fear of abandonment
Masterlist (in english):
Masterlist (in french):
Rating:Extremely self-doubting
Summary:You ask Bucky to play the role of your date at the prom. You want to make an impression because you were the shy person that no one noticed as a teenager. Except that he makes you understand that it's no and he gets angry afterwards. He then discovers your huge lack of confidence.
---------
''Please Bucky! '' You pleaded with him as he headed to the kitchen ''No [Y/N], why would you lie like that? Why would you lie? You weren't the type to do that. But your high school years were the worst, all your friends who stayed with you got into relationships while the others went to other schools. You found yourself alone a lot. At first it was nothing, you thought they had the right to spend time with their partner. But they never came back. Bucky was already gone. And you were still here alone. You sighed and headed to your room to get dressed. You tried on almost every outfit you had, but even with your clothes on, you had no one. You fell back on your bed and looked up at the ceiling. No one wanted to go with you and you had nothing special to wear. So you decided not to go. You took off your clothes and got more comfortable.
Bucky was talking to Steve when he spotted you on the couch. He frowned surprised that you were there. Bucky?'' He looked at his friend, ''Yes? Steve followed his gaze to run into you. ''Wasn't she supposed to be at her meeting? The winter soldier nodded, "What's she still doing here?" He shrugged without taking his eyes off you. He decided to move closer to you. ''[Y/N]? '' He asked as he landed next to you ''Yes? You looked at him quickly before returning your attention to your series. You're not at your meeting'' You looked down for a moment'' I didn't want to go'' Bucky was a little taken aback. You wanted to go not even an hour ago'' You sighed'' I don't have anything to do there, I'd rather be here'' Bucky insisted'' Don't you have friends you can meet there? He wanted you to go but you didn't know why. Besides, your friends are better off without you there, you said, "I don't want to, Bucky." He sighed, "You want me to come? You think about it. If he comes, everyone will look at you, but it won't be sincere. Bucky was right, you shouldn't lie, "I don't want to, James," he shuddered. You never called him James before. ''Okay'' He watched the show with you before walking away and leaving you alone. Again.
He found Steve, who had gone to train with Natasha. When she saw him arrive, a little shocked, she left her place against Steve. '' Are you ok? You look like you've seen a ghost'' He looked at his friend ''I think I did something wrong with [Y/N]'' Steve was intrigued ''Like what? The soldier shrugged '' I asked her why she didn't go to her meeting but she was cold, distant and she called me James '' Steve was surprised. You always give people nicknames, you only call them by their first name when they've done something wrong. He asked curiously, "I didn't want to go with her to her meeting. You would never have pouted about something like that, you never forced people. Steve shrugged, maybe it's a bad day and you need time.
The next day. You missed practice with Natasha. That had them worried. Whether it was Natasha or Bucky, even Tony was a little worried about you, even if he didn't say anything. Bucky decided to check on you to find you lying on your bed staring at the ceiling. ''[Y/N]? '' You looked at him surprised ''Bucky? What are you doing here? You straightened up. You missed training," you frowned. You never missed any, except when you were sick, but you always warned me. You looked at the time on your alarm clock which said 10:30. You sighed and fell back on your bed. He sat down on your bed and looked at you. You nodded your head. Is she still practicing? He shook his head. She went shopping with Clint and Wanda'' He played with those clearly nervous hands'' Look... I'm sorry about yesterday, I knew it was important to you, but... I didn't want people to see me with you'' Not wanting him to see you with him? it made your heart ache. What did that mean? That you weren't good enough for him? That he would be ashamed? Bucky looked at your eyes filled with pain and sadness. I'm not sure.'' He stood up and took your hand so you could stand up too. We came face to face, both of us standing. He sighs to give himself courage holding your hand in his. ''I am the winter soldier, I have killed many people and even though I feel bad about it... The others see me as a murderer and I can understand them, but I didn't want to do this to you. Imagine yourself'' He smiled clearly imagining the scene in his head'' You, in the most beautiful clothes you have to look even more beautiful when you already are. '' He stopped smiling little by little, thinking of what people would think of you if they saw you with him ''But, I wouldn't put up with people making remarks about you because you're dating me, even if it's a fake date'' You were dumbfounded ''Bucky'' You took his cheek and smiled at him ''You're the only man I've ever asked to come for a reason. I don't care about the remarks if I'm with you'' He smiled and hugged you and you hugged him back. ''You don't mind? He pulled away. ''I didn't want to go'' She pulled away.
''You looked like you wanted to go'' The fear of seeing you alone until the end was one of your worst fears ''I just didn't feel like it anymore'' He looked at you doubtfully. Why? You immediately felt bad, it was a bit shameful to admit to him that you were afraid to be alone. But your feelings came up faster than your composure. I'll be alone... like I've always been since high school! If I go there, everyone will see that I haven't evolved, that I'm not interested, that I'm still alone.'' You looked him straight in the eyes, he was thinking about what you were saying. As if he was thinking about why you are saying that. "Even if I would have gone with you. I wouldn't have been alone, but... It wouldn't have been sincere so maybe people would have seen me with them but the feeling is still the same for me'' He didn't really understand how you could say that you were lonely, you were with the Avengers. It was your family, everyone loved you and supported you. He didn't understand that you weren't talking about family, you were talking about friends who spent time with you without thinking about saving the world. You wanted to stop worrying about everyone else when they went on a mission. You wanted a break and most of all, you wanted to be loved like your friends were loved by their partners. You wanted to be in a relationship. But your low self-esteem always blocked you. You had a few boyfriends, sure, but they never lasted more than two months. You were always abandoned. You tried to change to look more confident and that's why you joined the Avengers, but you never got together after that. It's been well over five years. '' How can you say that? You have the Avengers! '' You sighed, of course he wasn't going to understand. When you started to walk to the bathroom he took you by the arm, "No, please explain" He was begging you. He wanted to help you, you were always nice to him and he was starting to develop feelings for you. You sighed and turned back to yourself. '' I've never had a relationship longer than 2 months! I was always put second, either I wasn't good enough or he was playing with me'' [Y/N] you're fine, those people were just assholes okay? '' He took a strand of your hair and placed it behind your ear. ''You should never doubt that'' He took your hand ''And there's one person who loves you here, okay'' She looked at him confused ''Who?'' He swallowed, he wanted to tell you so badly, he wanted to help you. ''It's okay if it's not mutual, I understand but I've loved you for a long time. Everything about you is perfect, your humor, your beauty, your intelligence, your kindness'' You looked at him with surprise before smiling. The truth is that you loved him too but you thought you had no chance, he was Bucky, a war hero from the 40s. He was perfect in your eyes, polite, funny, handsome. ''Is that right? He nodded, "Can we still be friends?" He was sure you didn't like him back, "Bucky?" He looked at you, "I love you too." He was just as surprised. Steve pointed out to him several times that you always looked at him, that you always listened to him when he talked, that you always worried about him more when he went on a mission. Steve also pointed out that Bucky talked about you a lot. He would compliment you on your outfit or your performance in training with Nat or Wanda.
When he came to his senses, he leaned over to you, took your cheek in his hand. You looked at him. You've been dreaming about this for so long. He made the moment last by looking into your eyes, giving you time to back away, which you did not. So he pulled you closer to him. Your chests were pressed together. You placed your hands against his neck, unable to wait any longer, pulling him towards you and placing your lips on his. Your lips fit together perfectly leading a dance together. He dropped his hands on your waist bringing you even closer. You were deep in the kiss forgetting what was around you. It was like a dream. You wondered when you would wake up. You both received the mark of love you had been waiting for. He laid his forehead on yours, catching your breath. '' I love you '' He said again.
