It was a new day, and you felt refreshed. Truly, Fontaine is one of the most snazziest places you’ve ever been in. Alongside the technological advancements, there was much attention to the intricacies of decorum and an artistic romanticism in the most mundane activities. Although, the air was a bit smellier than the countryside and the stars couldn’t sparkle as brightly.
You had woken up from your slumber, the sun beaming through the thin curtains by the window. Next to your bedside was a small nightstand with a beautiful lamp and the prop card laying face down.
You rolled a bit around in your bed until you laid on your back facing the ceiling.
Your mind wandered to the events that unfolded last evening. The colorful memory replayed in your mind like moving photographs.
The doves, cats in hats, paper butterflies and a pair of soft lilac eyes.
You sighed.
From the walk to your hotel yesterday, you had viciously tried to recount the events that happened. At what point did Lyney slip this note in your sleeve? And why didn’t you notice sooner?
You had trouble sleeping that night.
Lyney couldn’t have been serious could he? It was just a part of the show, of course he would shower you with pretty words and a suave demeanor . It's part of his charming routine, nothing more.
Then again…
Why did he whisper at you so much? Now you thought about it, you were up there for at least one two..TECHNICALLY FOUR ACTS?! Also, he stopped you after the show to talk. AND NOW HE HANDED YOU A CARD ASKING YOU OUT?! No WaIT- Not ‘Out Out’ like a date or anything, an outing as friends? Can you even call him that?! What acquaintance just requests a day to hang out together? HE ISN'T BREAKING SOME PERFORMER AUDIENCE ETIQUETTE REGULATIONS IS HE?!-
Overthinking can lead to a very unsettled mindset preventing you from getting proper rest.
So here you were, laying like a beached seal on your bed. You didn’t bother to get up right away. Too lazy and your head was fizzed out of thoughts.
You shifted your head around, the bedding beneath you shuffled along. On the nightstand was the prop card you had found in your sleeve last night.
You eyed the shiny piece of paper. The little red grinning cat silhouette on the backside felt like it was taunting you. Calling you pathetic as it stared at you from atop his side table throne.
Stretching your arms above your head, you finally sat up.
You reached and picked up the card, holding it with your index and thumb. Once again you carefully read the words that were written on the front in cursive.
 “ I hope you had a magical evening, [Name]. Meet me by the bench near the potted flowers by the station at noon tomorrow. If you show up, best prepare for I still have tricks up my sleeve that will leave you dazzled! ”
You stared at it and noticed it was written on what was a blank playing card.
Staring at how the curved letters formulated each word you wondered.
Meet him at the benches by the Aquabus station by noon. Did you really trust this man? Even though he is technically a celebrity, you just met him not even a day ago.
You swung your feet off the bed, card still in hand. Stepping down onto the small bedside rug, you idled around near the window. It looked to be early morning, you’d guess around eight o’ clock.
“ I don’t have much plans today. Other than wandering the streets and walking into what I think will be interesting.” You said, your voice a bit groggy.
You twirled the card in your hand.
You thought carefully of what you’d do next.
“ I think he might it want back.”
Yeah, that’s it.
“I’m sorry, sir?” You yelped. You had to crane your neck a bit to be able to make eye contact? You didn’t think it had eyes, but nevertheless you made the best effort to stare into its face.
Or what looked to be a face.
 You had seen some of them walking about freely in the main city. When you were making your way towards a staircase you bumped into one.
The robotic garde halted and nodded.
‘ Ah, so they can communicate.’
It went back to walking down the street, undeterred. Turning around after that odd exchange you went back to the matter afoot.
You were lost. Lyney never specified which station he’d be waiting in. You were almost half convinced he was going to be at the Marcotte Line; the one closest to the Opera Epiclese. Although, the more you thought about it the less likely he would be there.
He did mention that he might be available to take you to see around Fontaine. So he must have meant the main station hub located in the main city.
Even if he wasn’t there, you’d have that station checked off the list of possibilities.
You hurried up the stairs, the small journey reminding you of the Nation of Freedom surprisingly. Although both were vastly different, they did share a similar style of building upward rather than outward.
Reaching the top, you made your way to the station. You kept your eyes open as you scoped out your surroundings hoping to find a tall tophat.
It shouldn’t be hard right? Someone as extravagant as him would surely stand out.
You stood corrected. It looks like many people here in Fontaine take up the fashion trend that was tall extravagant head wear. You had gone over almost every suspect bench near flora, most of them were occupied by either locals, adventurers or both.
He didn’t seem to be near the reception or the inner waiting area.
“ It's almost noon” you turn to look out a window, the sun is high in the sky now.
“ If I were a famous magician with an outgoing personality, where would I be?” You muttered as you had your eyes peeled, wondering in the same space.
Your eyes followed the cheers of children. Near a bench a group of kids surrounded someone.
“ Wow!”
“Where did it go?”
“Could you do it again mister?”
“ Alright! Since you asked nicely. Watch carefully now!~” You heard a jovial smooth voice.
Looking above the kid group you spot him, seated comfortably playing with his card deck.
‘ Of course! You’d be where a willing audience was present!’
You waltzed over subtly. He was entertaining a group of little kids with some card tricks, you’d let him finish his mini performance before you made yourself known.
“ Is this your card little Mademoiselle?”  Lyney knelt down and held up a four of hearts card. The little girl with blonde hair jumped up excitedly.
“ Yeah! That’s my card!”
Lyney laughed, a warm expression graced his features. His eyes met yours for a split second. Not knowing what to do, you sent a little wave. Well at least he knows you're here.
His gaze flitted back to the group of kids. He got back up with the card in hand. “ Before I go, I’ll leave you all with a grand finale!”
The children gasped in unison and quieted down instantly.
He brought the card close to his face. He flicked it two times before crumpling it into his hand.
He shook his hand and reeled it as if he was going to throw a shot ball. He brought his hand up in a presenting way and when his palm opened there was a pop sound. It rained rainbow confetti and small cut out paper stars.
The children ooo’d and awe’d, and two were reaching their little arms up to catch the popper’s confetti.
“ Ta-da! This has been a special performance, brought to you by Magician Extraordinaire Lyney!” The magician lifted his cape from behind him and took a bow. The children clapped and cheered.
Two adults came walking up to the mini crowd.
“ Thank you for entertaining them, Mister Lyney. Getting our little Anais to sit still is a magic trick on its own.” An older woman laughed, as she picked up a small girl who wore a Boater styled hat.
“ Alright Hugo, let's go. Our boat will leave in a few minutes. Say thank you to Monsieur Lyney.” A man with a distinguished mustache taped a young boy in overalls. The little boy with his hands behind his back, thanked the magician before he went off with his father.
Lyney waved the kids off as he walked off towards you.
“ Hey there you. I hope managed to get a full night's rest.” He said, there was this sort of bounce in his voice. You may have only known him for a little while now, but you couldn’t help but pick up some recurring little quirks about him.
He wasn’t much different casually like he was on stage. This guy really does live and breathe in the spotlight huh?
“ Sort of. I had a bit of trouble sleeping.”
‘No way you were going to tell him you were thinking about him. That would make the rest of the day awkward.’
“ I did end up getting some shut eye though, eventually.” You mustered up a reassuring smile.
“ Trouble sleeping?” Lyney tilted his head as his index finger came up to chin. His eyes slightly narrowed as a mischief inducing grin made its way onto his face. “ You weren’t laying awake thinking about me were you?~”
You couldn’t help but widen your eyes and sputter out. Is telepathy in his book of magic tricks too?!
“What? No, of course not!” You forced a cough to cover your small blunder. “It’s just, I need to get accustomed to the climate, that's all. It's like that the first few days in a new location.”
Lyney laughed, his smirk melting into a more genuine expression.
“I’m kidding! That might have been a bit much, sorry about that! Hehe.” He said apologetically.
You crossed your arms as you held a small jaded stare at the cheeky magician. You were doubting if he really meant that. You blew out a held breath.
Reaching into your pocket you fetched the prop card
“ I found this in my sleeve when I left the Opera House. I believe this belongs to you.” You extended his card to him. His eyes suddenly lit up and he swiped the card away from you.
“So this is where it went! Honestly, sometimes my card deck has a mind of its own.” He mused as he twirled the card in his hand.
His eyes traveled back to you. “Well since it got you here today, why not take a walk around town! I did say if we had free time we were going to show you around. Call it an encore if you will.”
You looked around you, noticing something amiss after he said that.
“ Is Miss Lynette not going to join today?”
Lyney shrugged as he slid the card back into his deck. “ Lynette had something urgent to take care of, So she can't join us today unfortunately. So it will probably just be little old me and you today.”
He was idly playing around with the deck before he made it disappear. “ Oh, you don’t need to be so formal! Just Lyney is fine.”
You hummed.
“Alright. So any places to recommend visiting?”
At this the magician sported a confident smile and walked ahead of you. “ I have a full day planned out, a surprise around every corner. I want your stay in Fontaine to be an unforgettable glimmering memory.”
He turned on his heel to face you and extended a hand to you.
“ Now if you’d allow me to be your escort, mon cher?”
You could do nothing but stare. You couldn’t come up with any words to say except stepping forward and taking his hand.
With a content smile, Lyney gently pulled you along. His gloved hand felt smooth where his fingers grazed your palm yet there was a distinctive tougher texture where the white detailing was sewn on. The people wandering the streets around you felt like the fizzling suds of a wave.
You felt your face becoming a bit warmer.
He really does have a flair for the theatrical doesn’t he?
Lyney had taken you everywhere, one exciting place following the next. But before anything, he invented you for a meal. It was noon and the complimentary breakfast from early morning wasn’t going to keep you going for the entire day. So you both stopped by a humble cafe. The food was absolutely delicious! The smell of toasty bread invaded your senses and the savory taste of garlic on your tongue made you smile with each bite .
You were perfectly content with the garlic bread but you curiously asked Lyney for any recommended dish for the main course.
His answer was; “ If you want my word, then I’d say try this dish right here!” He pointed to a warm soup bowl as he leaned himself over to you.
After lunch, Lyney brought you to see many sights and places. From the tall waterfalls that made up the borders of Fontaine, you could stare at it for hours. He had to subtly pull you away from the viewing point as you kept your eyes glued to the running water.
You took the Aquabus every so often to get around. You were looking out into the distance. The water seemed to stretch on for infinity, islands broke through the surface making the land seem like one big jigsaw puzzle.
While the ride dragged out, Lyney made quick conversation to pass the time.
“So, what brought you to Fontaine, hm? If my memory serves me right, you mentioned that you don’t get out much.” Lyney sat next to you with his legs crossed.
“ Yeah. I see travelers but I'm never the one traveling. My job is not something exciting like an adventurer or extravagant like an artist.”
You shift in your seat. You folded your arms onto your lap.
“ I’m just a shopkeep. So, you can already say that I live a perfectly mundane life” You chuckled a bit dryly.
Lyney was uncharacteristically quiet. He was paying his undivided attention to your words. You continued.
“With every passing day, I gradually realized that my life had possibly reached a stalemate. Every day felt like a repeat of yesterday. It was the same route, same building, same aisles, and same feelings.” You said. You couldn’t exactly remember when you began to feel like this. It was a thought that had crossed your mind one day. And ever since, it had stayed in the crevices like gunk you couldn’t wipe off.
 “ So, I decided that I’m just going to throw myself out there into the world!” You spoke. You couldn’t really say exactly what your ideas were, but you described what you felt.
Comfort. Trapped. Empty. Jealous. Fear. Doubt. Excitement.
“ It may be reckless of me, but If I was never going to do it, I knew I would end up feeling regret for not having done anything about it. And even so, my boss was kind enough to grant me time off.”
You snickered. “ I’m probably just assuming, but I feel like they might have let me have this because they probably noticed something. Not to brag, but I was their best employee. Swooping in to save the day when my colleagues were out.”
You stretched your arms a bit, not having realized how still your body was the entire time. Once you were done it felt nice; it was as if your entire being took a fresh breath of relief.
“ So now I’m here. In Fontaine on an Aquabus with you.” You look up to see Lyney again. His eyes were soft and he had this understanding expression on his face.
Really, any expression he wore felt as if it were through a pair of rosy lenses. Perhaps it was the natural charm artists like him had. Maybe.
Besides,he could get away with just about anything because of his attractive face.
You shook your head away to look out into the Fontaine waters around and below.
“ Well, good on you [Name]! I hope your ventures have been nothing but amazing and brought you happiness! ” He finally spoke. He inhaled deeply before he sighed out. His gaze faced the bow of the aquabus.
 “ Do you agree that birds create wonderful music for the ear to hear? Not to mention the splendor of colorful feathers and their ability to fly.”
“Due to their natural charm, they are sometimes kept as ‘decorations’, provided food and shelter so long as they continue to amuse the people.” He said, his tone shifted ever so slightly. It was barely noticeable, but there was a very micro edge to his word.
He crossed his arms, the brim of his hat covered the sun creating a little inkling of shadow cast over half his face blocking out the sunlight that might’ve stung his eyes.
“ But being kept in captivity for too long, it will yearn for the open skies. It’s only a matter of time before the initial luxury turns into a finite cage.” Lyney hummed. His words brought you an unexplainable comfort yet somehow it felt very out of character for him. You subtly shift your gaze to his face. His expression didn’t seem to be exaggerated. His features were calm like a still lake, unmoving. His eyes, although trained forward, seemed to be not fully there. A misty reflection had settled over his lilac irises.
The intermission lasted for a few beats of seconds. His mouth effortlessly shifts up into a cat-like grin. He turns his head back to you and straightens his posture, his signature tophat tips back slightly. His eyes conveyed excitement as the lilac once again seemed as vivid during his performance.
 He was no longer a still freshwater lake, but instead a lively and winding river.
“Which is why you’ll get the best tour of Fontaine by yours truly! Mark my words when I said I’d leave you dazzled today, for I Lyney will see to it that you have nothing but laughs and smiles upon your lovely face, mon cher.~” He declared proudly.
You felt dazed. A warm bubbly feeling began to infest your chest. It was very much like when he placed a kiss to the back of your hand.
You smiled happily at his declaration. “Thank you for listening to me. And also..”
You couldn’t help the hot sensation over the apples of your cheeks or your muted heart rate from your ears. Yet you persisted, not breaking away your gaze from him.
“Thank you for being with me today.”
Lyney’s confident facade had faltered ever so slightly for that moment. But he recuperated and mirrored your expression.
“It’s no problem at all, [Name].”
This was nice. He was nice. Despite knowing him for a little while, it felt as if you’d known him for much longer.
However, you barely knew anything about him other than he had a twin sister who was coincidentally his assistant and that he was a popular performer in Fontaine.
It irked you a bit, but you wouldn’t voice this opinion out loud.  It is as people said, once you learn the inner mechanism to a magic trick, the magic itself is lost and you're left to face the raw and sometimes cruel trick.
You wouldn’t question why he went quiet. You wouldn’t question if he himself felt similar. You wouldn’t question why his demeanor sometimes felt too whimsical to be true. You didn’t want to ruin the mood. And you didn’t want to linger on the thought any longer.
You both went to many shops, Lyney had insisted you try out anything that caught your fancy. And if you liked it, to get it! Of course you were on a travel budget, but you did end up purchasing two items.
Your favorite stop however was the Hat Boutique. Lyney had a rather interesting insight on what headwear would ‘shape a face better’.
“Hm, you could probably store triple the amount of props in this one.” He studied a scarlet red top hat that looked suspiciously similar to the one he owns. He then looked over to another hat sitting on a display. “But that one brings out my petite and charming face more.”
He turned to face you. “ Help me out here [Name], should I go with this one or that one?”
You looked between the two options, narrowing your eyes and looked closely at the detailings. You looked at Lyney’s face and imagined how he’d look with either on.
“If you want my opinion, why not go with this one.” You walked over to a particular Hat you saw as you were pursuing. It was a Fedora like hat in a rich dark violet color; it looked more like an inky black purple. It had a gray sash wrapped around it that shined slightly silver when the sun hit.
“ It looks nice, and the material feels smooth to the touch. The color brings out your eyes too.” You said as you held up the hat for him to look.
“Oh my, aren't you the charmer?” He smirked playfully.
You avert your eyes to the aisles of material and color, “ It’s just an astute observation is all.”
He took the hat off your hands and studied it. “ Color me impressed! You have quite the eye for fashion mon cherie.” He sent you a proud smile and his eyes glowed with pride.
You shook your head. “ I work full time at a small shop remember, so picking up on the interest of buyers is a skill I’ve gained. I wouldn’t say I’m a fashion expert.” You felt the corner of your lips twitch up into a little smile.
“Are you going to tell me what you mean by that?”
“What do I mean by what?” He repeated your question blinking owlishly
You pouted. You got the feeling he was doing it on purpose.
“The nickname? You refer to me by that sometimes. What does it mean?”
Lyney thought for two seconds before his mouth formed an o shape in realization. He gave you an innocent close eyed smile. “ That’s a secret~! But, I have faith you’ll figure out what it means on your own.”
You gasped and brought a hand to your heart. “ How do I know you're not calling me a mean name? What a cruel scheme to pull one over me like that!” You whisper yelled in an over the top voice of hurt.
 His shoulders tensed. Lyney suddenly became the slightest bit flustered. He shook his head, “I-I would never! Honest! I can assure you it doesn’t mean anything like that.”

You let out a quiet snicker. You found it adorable really. He suddenly became embarrassed despite the brimming confidence he usually carries himself in.
After purchasing the hat, he decided to keep his signature cat still on but suggested making a stop by his house to leave the newly purchased hat.
“ It won’t be long I promise! It’s just that, I wouldn’t want it to get weathered by bringing it around with us today. You did end up choosing it and I wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to it.” He reasoned.
It was a small but cute home. It was built in a typical style that the main city carried; geometric edges, a very advanced looking outdoor light, and a beautiful door with a stained window.
“Wait here okay! I promise I’ll be in and out before you can tell I left.” He quickly spoke as he jogged over to the front door. You couldn’t help but laugh a little as he sped off.
So you stood outside. You looked around, and spotted a potted plant.
CLANK TICK CLANK
The sharp sounds of metal and objects clashing made you sharply look at the direction it came from. You suddenly felt a bit confused.
The door swung open and you were expecting to see the charming magician. Instead it was a boy running out the door. He spotted you and suddenly skidded to a sudden stop.
“...”
He had a giant metal helmet next to him. He had ash blonde hair that almost covered the left side of his face. His apparel reminded you of a sailor.
He just stared at you and stepped back a bit. His form seemed slightly shrunken and he held his helmet thing closer to him. Not wanting wrong assumptions to be made you sent the boy the most casual smile you could.
“ Oh, don’t mind me! I’m just waiting on a friend, said he had to drop off something. He should be back any minute.”
The boy didn’t say anything, and just nodded. And he stood there. Unmoving.
 Some glances at you and back to the floor.
 He taps around his helmet.
Well this was awkward. Should you make small talk?
“Er, cool helmet. What is it for, if you don’t mind me asking?”
The boy nervously glanced at you from the corner of his eye. His eyes were a very vibrant blue color. He didn’t answer for a while. You purse your lips feeling bad. Maybe the silence was better.
“ving…” You barely heard it. You look over back to the boy.
“Diving..a diving helmet.” He spoke quietly. He didn’t make eye contact as his eyes were glued to the floor.
“Diving? As in underwater?” You spoke with some bubbling curiosity. Before the boy could react, the door opened again.
“ I am here! Haha, sorry. That may have taken a bit longer than I thought. I hope you didn’t get too bored while I was away.” Lyney announced himself. He no longer had the hat box with him and he scratched the nape of his neck.
He noticed the other blonde boy.
“Hm? Ah, Freminet! Where are you off to today?”
Oh, he knows him? You thought, glancing between the two.
“I was on my way to the beach.” The young man known as Freminet spoke. His voice sounded soft yet slightly raspy, perhaps he wasn’t used to talking much you figured.
Lyney approached you and eagerly motioned for you to join in the conversation.
“ [Name], allow me to introduce you to my little brother, Freminet. Freminet, this is my new friend [Name]. They were the ones to share the spotlight with me and Lynette during last evening’s show.” Lyney proudly chirped.
Freminet looked a lot less tense. “Oh, yeah. I remember. You rambled on about that show, saying how well they-”
Lyney coughed loudly. You look over at the magician with a raised eyebrow.
There on his pale face was the smallest smidgen of a rosy color. Freminet immediately hushed. But he had a small nervous smile on his face.
“ I’m sorry If I seemed quiet just now.” Fremeniet now said addressing you. “ I recognized you from your appearance, but I didn’t know what to talk about. Or If you would find me odd for knowing about you.”
You shook your head, understanding the full picture now made you feel a bit more reassured. “ Don’t worry about it, really. But, it’s nice to meet you, Freminet.”
You turned to face Lyney who looked a lot more relaxed. “ So you have two siblings? What a nice family you three are! There probably isn’t a shortage of banter or boredom then.”
Lyney chuckled. “ Well, I’m usually the one who does most of the talking. I’m the eldest so it's my duty.”
“Sometimes you take it a bit too far and become a blabber mouth.” A familiar voice suddenly joined the conversation. Looking about you were met with another familiar face.
“Hey Lynette.” You sent the twin a little friendly wave. She turned to you. Smiling a little and returning it, albeit more lazy.
“Really? You see me as a blabber mouth? But Lynette, I mustn't let the audience’s cheers and support fall on deaf ears. Especially that our friend [Name] here has been on a grand tour with me as their guide.” Lyney ground proudly as he placed both his hands on his hips.
“Whatever you say. But, you’ve been taking them on a tour? How come you didn’t invite me to tag along?” Lynette deadpanned.
Huh? You tilted your head in confusion and furrowed your brow. Didn’t Lyney mention earlier that his sister was busy. Lyney must have felt the obvious sudden awkward tension placed upon him as his shoulder tensed and he chuckled nervously.
“A-ah, b-but dear sister, you see since you were busy in the early time of today I didn’t wish to trouble you, so I took it upon myself to show them around. Hehe, please don’t be mad at me.” Lyney stuttered out all while looking at Lynette as he brought his hat closer to his chest.
 Lynette sighed and shook her head before she turned to you with a laid back expression.
“ I hope he hasn’t caused you too much trouble, [Name]. He can go a little too far sometimes but that’s just Lyney being Lyney.”
“Hey! I’m right here you know.” Lyney whined sadly. Lynette didn’t bother to look at him and Freminet had turned his head to the side. His shoulder’s bounced and looked like he was suppressing a giggle.
“ It’s really okay. More than okay really. Lyney has been nothing but kind and patient with me. He is a good listener and always manages to make me smile and laugh!” You said happily.
Lynette’s deep violet eyes got slightly bigger with confusion and curiosity. Lyney stood beside you and took a quick glance at your direction. It was quiet for a moment. You suddenly became a bit nervous, was there something wrong you said?
Lyney laughed heartily as he threw an arm over your shoulders. “You see! Take it from them, that I never let my audience down!” You quickly glanced in his direction, not minding the close contact. You could see some red culminating around the tips of his ear and beneath his eyes.
“Well that's good to know.” Lynette crossed her arms.
“ We must get going, the daylight is short so we mustn't waste it idlying.” Lyney said. Before you two left Lyney sent his siblings goodbye. “Take care Lynette, remember to be on alert alright? And Freminet, remember to get back home before curfew! I was about to dive into the waters last time you had forgotten about time.”
“ Okay.”
“Of course.”
Lynette and Freminet replied in unison.
“ Looks like we’re on the move again. I hope to be able to spend time with you Lynette.” You said. You wanted to get to know this family better. Lynette was blunt and to the point but you could tell she cared about the people closest to her.
Lynette nodded and her lips curled up into a small but sincere smile. You turned to Freminet.
 “ It was nice to meet you, Freminet. If we ever meet again, would you mind explaining diving to me? It sounds interesting.”
Freminet tensed slightly but managed to nod in agreement.
“ Bye Bye! Take care!”
After you two had left, Lynette turned to Fremeinet with a pensive look.
“ Freminet, do you think our older brother is perhaps getting attached to them?”
“ I don’t know. But, he really seems to like their company. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him being this flustered in the presence of someone else.”
Lynette hummed. “ I hope he knows what he’s attempting to get himself into. Out of all of us, he knows what kind of situation we’re in.”
Freminet was quiet as he fidgeted with the nails and guards on his helmet.
“ Do you think that [Name] would like Per?”
Lynette glanced at Freminet with an unreadable expression. She stood still and thought of last evening's performance.
“Did... Did you go into idle mode?”
“Yes.”
“Huh?”
“ I think [Name] would find Per cute.”
The rest of the day was spontaneous. From a walk by the sea shore, trying out pastries and free samples, Lyney explaining Fontaine history and technology.
It was now close to night time and you were both currently walking through the garden close to the Opera House. The road towards the Opera House was beautiful, ever since you first came here a day prior. You had almost ran late to the Magic show seeing as to how pretty it was. The carved marble statues, the beds of wildflowers beyond the decorative iron railing, and not to mention the fountains. Water was almost everywhere you’d look, it was a given as this was the nation of Hydro.
“Well, today was certainly a fun day.” You spoke softly. You looked up into the sky. It was the final rays of daylight and the sky was a beautiful swatch of evening gradience. All of the orange, blues and reds bled right into each other.
The water beyond mirrored the sky. The land was akin to a watercolor tray, a smokey mixture of cool and warm colors.
“Thankyou, again for taking time out of your day to guide me through the nation’s cities. You didn’t need to know?” You walked alongside Lyney who was too admiring the sky.
“Nonsense. I took you on this little journey because I wanted to. It was one of my prop cards that called to you, yes?” He glanced at you out of the corner of his eye.
“Yes but-”
“And you answered. You could have very well ignored it, even kept the card as a souvenir. But you didn’t. And that choice led you to today.” He spoke calmly.
You said nothing. Lyney was a stubborn man, no matter how many times you could protest against his kindness he would fire back with a reasonable explanation.
“ The card, how did you manage to put it into my sleeve?”
Lyney grinned like a bobcat. “ Uh uh my dear, a magician never reveals his trade secrets.” He mused teasingly.
“ Of course.” You sighed, giving up.
“Have you always had a talent in magic? In performing?”
Lyney finally turned his head to glance at you. Skipping ahead of you, he manages to turn his whole body towards you.
“ If you must know, It is a rags to riches tale!” He exclaimed as he bellowed out his arms dramatically in front of him.
“ As a young lad, me and Lynette were street performers. Everyday little crowds of people would congregate around us on the side of the street. Card tricks, Flower tricks, and even the feathered friends would aid in our little shows.” He exclaimed as he walked backwards.
“We would give it our all and Mora would rain down upon us.” He spoke with a triumphant smile on his face. He slowed down his pace and you managed to catch up. He was now walking next to you like before.
“ You could guess the rest. We eventually became so well renowned, we were able to afford high end venues and quality equipment for our shows. And soon we went from paupers to famed actors.”
You had listened carefully. Despite his colorful disposition, the underlying tone of his small backstory felt off.
“ I’m sorry you had to go through such tribulation. It must have been tough on the two of you early on.” You frowned. Although he framed the tale as a dramatic novel, the implication that he and lynette had been living in the streets tugged at your heart.
He did say when he was a lad, so this probably must have happened while they were both children. Where were their parents? The rest of their family? You decided to stave off these questions as they could be delicate.
Lyney had gone quiet for a moment. He smiled warmly at you. “ It’s alright. There is no need to feel sad for us. That is long in the past now. And besides…” He grinned widely. “ I think a smile would suit your lovely face more!”
He took off his hat and dug around it and pulled out a curious plant. It was a glowing blue color and its shape resembled a pearl. It shined a mixture of a translucent lilac and ocean blue.
He outstretched it out to you. You went ahead and tapped the leaves that looked like sea shells. The flower suddenly released some bubbles. The translucent orbs floated around you. You couldn’t help but pop a few, some giggles escaping you as you whirled around.
Lyney chuckled. “ I did promise you that I would keep that smile on your lips followed by the melody of your laughter.”
“ I-” You brought a hand up to your face. Your heart suddenly began to beat as if you had just ran a distance.
Why did his words have to feel so..so..like this? Why did it feel as if what he said was true? Would that explain why your heart feels like it would sprout wings and fly away any moment?
You were positive your face was burning up. You coughed into your hand.
“You did, didn't you? Thank you for the reminder.” You had managed to sputter out. You heard the soft chuckling of the magician. The flower was no wear to be seen, he must’ve vanished it away when you weren’t paying attention.
“I’m glad we’re on the same page, [Name].” He had a lopsided grin. Lyney was a cheeky man, a person with a silver tongue. He was a conman. And yet…
He managed to make you feel like you had a tornado of butterflies in your stomach all the time.
You were left speechless, as you both continued to walk down a few more minutes. You both made it to the Opera. In front of the opera was a bigger fountain, and a few pairs of people were collected around it.
You went up to the fountain, interested to see it up close. In the water collected at the bottom, you could make out a few glittering coins of Mora beneath the water. You heard a few steps up behind you and guess Lyney must’ve followed you.
“ People wish at this fountain, right? What for?” You looked around at the elegant structure. The reflected moonlight in the water gleamed against the little gold accents around its edges.
“ Fontainians come to this fountain to wish about anything, really. Better fortune, health, and happiness. But mostly, people come to this specific fountain for love or hopes for a healthy baby.” Lyney answered, his hands behind his back.
‘Hmm, the pairs of people make sense now.’ You thought as you glanced around the area. Satisfied you walk around the front of the Opera house. The fountains shooting water high into the air makes you wanna take a closer look. Leaning into the thin railing your eyes stayed glued to the water.
You could feel a ghost coolness of the falling mist from the tall fountain.
Although it was a fun outing today, you had ran around almost everywhere in the nation. Lyney in toe with you, making you ignore the aches you felt for doing so much in such a short time. Now in this still moment, all your tiredness was catching up to you.
Lyney must have noticed, as his lilac eyes flitted between your face and the fountain ahead.
“ Hey, want to see something cool?”
You turned your head over to the cheeky magician with a brow raised.
With your attention now on him, he took off his hat. You leaned more on your arm against the railing with a warm smile. Half expecting him to pull out something out of his hat again, he did something else. He shook it in front of him, emptying it out of nothing. Nothing left the hat.
Lyney hummed aloud. “Hmm, I was sure I had it stored in here.”
You couldn’t help but laugh a little. “Maybe you dropped it somewhere?”
“No no. I was sure It was in here.” He pouted as he now looked in, under and above his tophat. It was rather cute.
He eventually gave up and placed it back on his head. “ You might be right, maybe it slipped out while we were on the aqua-”
Just as he was about to finish, something dangled in front of his face. It moved from side to side, as if it was dusting off his face. Upon a closer look, It looked like a cat tail.
The look on Lyney’s face was endearing, his lilac eyes had dilated in surprise and followed the tail.
“Ah, there it is!” The hat suddenly lifted up his head, floating just above.
To your surprise, you see a smaller tophat along two little black ears pop out. Two little black bean paws followed, grabbing along the inner rim of Lyney’s hat.
Pop
“!!!”
You finally saw its face. It was a black cat with mismatched eyes of a droplet and star. It had a permanent toothy grin on its face. It wiggled in the hat and turned itself to look down at you.
“?!!”
You could make out the red bow behind its back. You weren’t sure what to do so you waved at the cat. It moved its small pudgy body around the hat and twitched its tiny ears.
“!!!”
Lyney let out a giggle at the interaction. “ Aww, I think he likes you.” He managed to grab his floating hat by the rim and brought it down in front of him. The cat in the hat seemed bothered and was now looking up at you. Its tiny hat was slightly tipped back.
“Can I pet it?” You asked almost too excitedly.
“Since you asked, of course! He is a bit mischievous but a glutton for attention.” He mused, side eyeing down on the cat.
You gingerly brough your hand down onto the cat. Its surface was surprisingly smooth yet soft, and the cat wiggled towards your touch. It’s two little ears ducked back as it seemed to love the attention it was given. It’s face never changed, however.
“ Does it have a name?” You asked as you kept petting it. Lyney nodded and smiled.
“ It’s a Grin-Malkin cat! I’m sure you're quite familiar with it, as it’s not only a prop for Lynette and I’s show, but our cute mascot.” He said.
“Prop?” You asked slightly confused. So it wasn’t alive? Then how did it move so life-like?
“ The Grin-Malkin cat is a puppet, but its movements are based off of a real cat.” He said.
You smiled, but kept petting the cute kitty. Even if it was just a puppet, the cat seemed to have a familiar personality. Its little paws stuck out, and one came up to ‘attack’ your finger. You quietly giggled at its playfulness.
“ So, cats are a part of your show’s soul huh?” You asked.
“ If it wasn’t that obvious, yes.” He said with a charming smile.
“ ‘Based on a real cat’, so who was the lucky cat this little bean was based on?” You asked curiously.
“ When Lynette and I were street performers, we managed to run into a lot of stray cats. Lynette was shy, so most of them got along with her.” He said as he looked down to Grin-Malkin.
“But, there was one troublesome cat. He kept on running off with my hat. Apparently, it made for a better cat bed than anything. He would be curled up inside when I found it.”
“ Eventually, I thought of replacing my old friend with a new hat. A hat that wouldn’t disappear when I didn’t tell it so. But, me and the cat came to a mutual agreement. I would bring him along to the show as a replica puppet!” He said with a proud smile. It slightly faltered however as he continued.
“During one particular performance, there was a little mishap that happened. I had forgotten a card in my deck and the trick required that one card that I misplaced.”
You winced at the second hand embarrassment. “Talk about bad luck. What did you do?” You asked. The kitty that you were petting now turned around to look up at Lyney. It looked interesting in his story. So now, it was you and the cat’s eyes on Lyney.
“Well, as I was coming up with an improvised outcome, out came this little guy.” He motioned down to the cat.
“!!!” It bounced slightly in the hat as the attention now was on it.
“ He had the card that I had misplaced and was able to save the show. And ultimately, make it better. The crowd and even I wasn’t expecting such an outcome.” He shook his head.
“Aww, so he became the star of the show.” You laughed.
“!!!” The cat whirled around to face you again and puffed out its chest in pride.
Lyney laughed alongside you. “ That’s one way to put it.”
Once you calmed down you noticed that you didn’t feel as tired anymore.
“ It looks like today is coming to a close.” Lyney said as he looked around. There were now very few people outside, and the sky had turned darker than earlier. The magician tapped the tiny tophat on the cat.
“Before today the curtains come to a close, let me send you off with a grand finale.” He whispered.
The Grin-Malkin cat wiggled its tail and his paw came up to the brim of its own hat. The cat tipped its tophat to you before Lyney grabbed his own and placed it back atop it’s hat.
“With your permission, could you close your eyes for me.” He said as he leaned in close to you, his hands behind his back.
“Okay?” You smiled nervously.
You shut your eyes and saw darkness. You could still hear the rushing of water and a faint sound of chirping crickets.
“Okay, no peeking until I tell you too.” You heard the magician.
You waited for what would happen. You felt someone get closer to you. The ghostly presence of someone close to your face. You refrained from moving, yet your heart began to pick up its pace.
You felt something warm touch your cheek, and something soft tickle your ear. At the same time you felt stiffer material tap against you above your head.
It came as quickly as it went, as you felt a small breeze and you could no longer feel the close presence.
“Okay, open your eyes now.” You heard Lyney say.
You opened and saw the magician in front of you with a warm smile.
“Do you feel anything different? Perhaps something is missing!” He said in a cheery tone.
Your hand reached up to where you felt something earlier.
“Huh?”
There was something behind your ear. Carefully, your fingers outstretched and touched something soft. It was a delicate circlet of petals connected to a smooth stem. Looking up from the corner of your eye, you spotted a blur of prisma like colors.
A blurb of pink and pastel yellow.
“ A rose? How?” You quietly questioned.
“Mhm!” Lyney nodded enthusiastically. “ That is a rainbow rose. A beautiful flower that grows wild only within Fontaine.”
“Ah, thank you! It’s really pretty and soft.” You delicately felt a petal. Beneath the bloom, there were smaller outstretched petals that pressed against your temple.
“ Have you found it yet? The thing I stole from you.” Lyney asked, tilting his head to the side.
You glanced back at him confused. You didn’t feel anything missing from you, as you checked your packets and around your person.
Lyney’s eyes followed your attempts to look for the missing something, slightly amused.
“Given up yet?”
You really couldn’t find anything off.
“ Is this a trick question, because I don’t feel like anything was taken.” You asked.
Lyney raised a closed hand next to his face. He smirked mischievously.
“How strange, because I have something of yours in the palm of my hand.” He teased me. “I’ll give you one more chance, could you guess what it is?”
You nodded. You guessed it was either a prop card or maybe some mora.
“ I give up, what is it?”
Lyney opened his palm and there was…
Nothing.
“Ta-da! The thing I stole from you was your attention.” He exclaimed with glee. He walked over to me and extended his hand over to me.
“Here you go, you can have it back now!”
 …
This little-
You may have had the tiniest urge to smack his shoulder. Shaking off that urge, you huffed and played along. Once you reached his hand to get your ‘attention’ back, his finger’s gently encased your hand.
He bowed down dramatically and kissed the back of your palm.
 Very discreetly, he cracked one eye open and glanced up at you. You had frozen in place and with a flustered face you could only stare.
He had the gall to smirk and send you a wink.
There was an odd sense of Dejavu, the memory of when you were approached by him after the magic show that evening.
“And it seems that…I have stolen your heart as well ma chérie.” Lyney whispered.
He gently let your hand fall back to your side as he stood back up. He had an innocent smile on his face.
You just stared at him completely dazed.
It was quiet for a very. Long. Second.
Lyney’s pale face slowly became redder and redder although he did not move.
The awkwardness was beginning to thicken and soon Lyney couldn’t take it anymore.
“Ahem…Ahaha hah haa... D-Did you get it? Because I had you focused on me the entire time so I stole your attention right under your nose. And now I just did a chivalrous act to make you feel flustered! I didn’t go too far again did I?” He muttered as he brought a hand to his mouth and averted his eyes.
His rambling snapped you out of your dazed phase and you suddenly became very aware as to how hot your face was. Lyney being in some sort of distress in front of you made you sputter out.
“Nononono, It’s fine! I was surprised, very surprised actually…er that was a nice trick there, very smart. So don’t worry about it.” You went ahead and leaned forward from the railing to look back at the fountain. Lyney might have gotten the message because he did the same.
After a few minutes of cooling down, you turned your head to look at Lyney and see if he was alright. His lilac eyes spotted you out of the corner, and he ducked under the brim of his hat.
“I think it’s getting late, I’ll take the Aquabus back to the main city.” You said, there was a small tight feeling in your chest. You were sad as to how fast the day went, how fast you had to say goodbye.
“Let me walk you back to the station then. It wouldn’t be very gentlemanly to let you walk back on your own this late.” Lyney offered, his voice sincere.
And so you did. The walk back was slightly quieter. Again, he became uncharacteristically quiet.
Was it because of what happened earlier? Did he feel like he did something wrong?
“You know I had fun today, right?” You began.
“It was very kind of you to take me on a tour around the city. I got to learn about the nation, eat good food, spoil myself with samples and sweets, and saw many hats I didn’t even know existed.” you slightly laughed. You heard him laughing quietly too.
“ I met your siblings, met your prop cat and I got to meet you in last evening's show.”
You might’ve never gone out today if you hadn’t met Lyney.
You might’ve never got to know his family if you hadn’t met Lyney.
You might’ve never gotten to meet Lyney like this if you weren’t picked to participate in the final act.
The more you thought about it, the more you became grateful that for some miracle of coincidence you were picked from the audience.
“I’m really happy that I met you. You made my time here in Fontaine feel magical. I’ll keep this day close to my heart, if that’s okay with you.” You smiled happily, the giddy feeling making you feel all sorts of floaty.
Lyney said nothing, only humming in approval.
Once you had gotten to the station, there was already a bus sitting there. The tour guide, or Melusine as you later found out, was sitting and leaning against the bus. Once it heard the sound of footsteps it sat up quickly, it’s tall ears snapping up.
“Ah! Oh, all aboard the bus! No wait, that’s not it..uh- everyone boarding please be careful with your arms, feet and legs inside the boat!” It spoke, half asleep.
You turn to Lyney. “ Are you going to go back to the main city?”
He shook his head.
“ No, I think I’m going to go back to the Opera house. I hate to be the naggy brother, but I just want to make sure Lynette didn’t forget any of the props backstage.”
“ Oh alright. I guess this is goodbye then.”
You had the urge to hug him. You weren’t sure how busy the Magician might be tomorrow, but somewhere in the back of your mind you believed you wouldn’t see him again for a while. The thought once again made your chest feel tight.
“ I believe so.” Lyney said quietly.
Well, no point in delaying your leave.
“Wha- HEY!” You heard Lyney yelp, and quickly you turn back to see what happened. His hat was off its what and seemed to zoom over to you.
The Grin-Malkin cat drove the Top hat like some dune buggy as now right side up was swirled with pyro elemental energy.
The grinning cat raced in the sky towards you, there wasn’t enough time to get out of the way so you braced for impact. But it never came.
The hat had swerved around you, drifting mid air as the cat kept facing you.
Suddenly the thing nudged itself into your face, the Grin-Malkin cat rubbing its pudgy dark body against you. You could almost hear purrs.
“ Hello, nice to see you again.” You giggled as its ears tickled your chin. Wrapping an arm around it you used the other to scratch above its head.
“!!!”
Lyney got closer and smiled nervously. “ I think he likes you too much. It never usually takes off on it’s own.”
He bent slightly down to be on the hat’s level and he put both his hands on his hip.
“Hey now! Come on, back up here alright?” he tried to sound like a scolding parent.
“!!!” The cat shook its tail in his face.
“I’m serious. C’mon, back on Lyney’s head” He pointed to his hat-less head of hair.
“!!!” The cat dug itself deeper into your embrace.
Lyney frowned. “ I know you like [Name], but they really have to go. It could be dangerous for them to be out in the streets this late. The sooner you let them go, the sooner they’ll go back safely.” He reasoned with a reassuring tone of voice.
The cat retracted itself from your hold and glanced down at Lyney. Having made up its mind the cat’s paws extended to you.
You tapped them both. “ Lyney’s right. I have to go. I’ll miss you too.” You leaned down and pressed a small peck on the robotic cat’s forehead.
It wiggled and a paw came up to its hat and brought it down in an attempt to hide its face. Although its features couldn’t exactly express, it looked to be shy.
Lyney had noticed and brought a hand up to his mouth to cover his snickers.
The cat then ducked into the hat, disappearing from view. You looked inside the hat and it was empty.
Grabbing it from in front of you, you flipped it right side up.
“Here, let me help.” You raised it above Lyney’s head. Slowly you set it down and secure it in its place. All the while doing it, Lyney had his soft lilac eyes on your face.
Fixing the hat a bit, you dusted off any dirt that may have gotten on it. “There we go! Now you look as sharp as you usually do.” You grinned.
You didn’t notice but when you smiled, especially at such close proximity, Lyney couldn’t stop the flush of color rising in his face.
You kept staring at his hat and his face as well to see if anything was out of place.
Without realizing your hands hover just above his arms. You weren’t sure if this was right. Maybe ... .Everything was going a step too far. Just as you were gonna reel back, Lyney raised his hands to hover right beneath your arms.
Without saying much but a nod, you hugged.
His cape felt soft, and his arms held you with care and protectiveness. You smiled as your face dug into his shoulder. You felt the hard material of the brim bump your temple.
He smelled like flowers and ash. An odd combination yet somewhat comforting.
For what felt like a full day, you two finally separated. He had a warm and sincere smile on his face.
Most of his smiles are bright grins that could light up a room.
But somehow after a while the spark is lost, and the smiles feel all the same. But this one, the one you saw before your eyes. No, this was different.
The kind of smile that was not rehearsed nor under scrutiny of the captive audience’s eye.
This one felt raw, special, authentic.
It made him look beautiful.
Realizing you were staring, you stepped back.
“ I….really think I need to go, or the Melusine will go back to sleep.” You turned on your heel and headed towards the boarding area. Before you left you took a big breath in. the cold air of the night and mist sending a current of energy through you.
As you were about to step on the bus, you heard him walk behind you.
“When will you be leaving?”
“What?”
“When will you be leaving? You said you were here on holiday, so when will you go back?” He asked.
You stopped and thought. When will I go back?
Go back.
Do I want to go back?
Can I go back after having a taste of what the world is outside of what I once knew?
“I leave in two days. Two days, yes.” You managed to say out almost in a flat voice.
“Why do you want to know?” You asked, you hadn;t turn your back to face him.
I want to see you again.
“ No reason in particular. I just thought you would be around to watch me and my sister perform in three days at the courts theater.” He said, there was a cheapness to his voice.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to go. I'm sorry.”
“Yeah, Sounds like it.” Lyney dejectedly said.
You step onto the bus and Melusine shoots up on it’s tiny feet.
“ Leaving Marcotte Station!” They yelled. You sat down on one of the benches. You didn;t have the heart to look at Lyney as the bus started to move along the river.
You did however outstretched your hand behind your ear. The rose was still there.
“ Ah, a rainbow rose? Oh oh! Did you have someone propose to you?” the Mesuline asked.
“Wh-What?! What do you mean by ‘propose?!’ ” You shrieked. The Melusine set comfy on top it’s little pedestal.
“Oopsie, I’m sorry you probably don’t know the rumored implications of that rose do you?” They asked, tilting their head as their ears flopped to the side.
You shook your head.
“Well, since you're my only passenger for tonight, I suppose it’s okay for me to add on to the guidelines. And I’m tired right now.” It yawned.
“ When someone gifts you a Rainbow Rose, much like the one on you, it usually symbolizes passion and romantic encounters. It’s very common for couples here to gift each other a single rainbow rose or a bouquet of a dozen roses as a way to express their devotion to one another.” The Melusine mused.
“Oh.”
“ But it’s also used to express platonic love for a dear friend or family. Flower gifting is a language that revolves around love no matter which kind.” It said happily.
It hummed a little tune, and the boat sailed along.
“ But for it to be placed behind the ear, someone may be interested in you. Romantically I mean, haha.”
Oh dear…you might realize what the nickname he gave you means now.
“Ah- AHCHOO!” You covered your face as you sneezed.
“ Bless you!” the Melusine said.
You sniffled. Maybe it was the cold.
Lyney had stood there watching the Aquabus get farther and farther away. He had his hat to his chest.
He quickly placed his hat back on his head and walked back to the garden path.
There was no one around. He was alone.
Had his siblings made it back home yet? Probably.
The steps of his boots bore a fast and rhythmic pattern as he stepped.
His lips were in a flat line. His mind was preoccupied on many things.
His sister, his brother, the rest of his siblings, “Father” and you.
You. He shook his head.
He had a blast today. Although he had known Fontaine all his life, he practically lived on the stone walkways for a good part of his life, he never saw it like he did today. It felt new to him, a wondrous view!
Like that of an innocent curious child. Something that he never thought he would experience ever in his life.
He snapped away the thought.
He made it past the fountain in front of the Opera House. Getting past the gates and the lonely lobby he made it into the audience area.
He had met you here.
From when he was looking for a willing participant, he spotted you amongst the sea of eager people.
He spotted you. You weren’t a local, perhaps a tourist. You intrigued him.
Foreigner’s often brought in the best source of intel. A web of secrets and truths hidden beneath the veil of illusions. The normal people and Magicians were similar in that aspect, despite the other living in ignorance.
He never would have expected you to complete the trick well. Oftentimes, stage fright took a hold of the non troupe assistance, some on the spot improv would be on set in case the trick went off the rails.
That is why Lyney wouldn’t often pick from the audience. It was a rare occasion.
He would seek you out. Get you into a sense of comfortability, his silver tongue had a way of making people profess their hearts out to him.
The world was a stage to him, and thus he must always perform his best. At least, that is what “Father” told him.
You didn’t have much useful information. He was hoping for something more scandalous or perhaps a secret you were ashamed of. Instead, you were just some person seeking out the world that you never had stepped foot in despite being born into it.
And yet.
Lyney sat down on one of the cushy seats of the audience area. He crossed on foot atop the other.
Why had he stayed with you today?
Perhaps he was afraid of seeing you upset if he left suddenly to shop for props he needed.
Maybe, he didn’t want to go back on his promise he made to you backstage.
Maybe, he didn’t want to see your angry face if you found out the initial reason he asked you out.
Lyney looked around, his eyes wandered to the stage. No one was performing. It was empty. The spotlight wasn’t shining down. It was devoid and completely useless to its intended purpose at the moment.
Lyney had purposefully left out key information when you had asked about his background in magic.
You didn’t need to know of the desperate times where he pushed through with a smile while the tummies of he and his sister gurgled for food.
You didn’t need to know the cruelty of Nobility and their disgusting greed and wicked selfishness.
You didn’t need to know about the House and the Fatui.
And you didn’t need to know about “Father”.
Lyney exhaled.
All of that would probably make you look down on him with disgust and fear. He much preferred to see a beautiful smile on you.
He didn’t need to see you again. You were useless to “Father”, to the grand scheme of he and his sibling’s mission. You would be a distraction, and distractions lead to silly avoidable mistakes.
Yes, that’s what “Father” would say to him.
And yet.
Lyney scrunched his face. He didn’t like feeling like this. He thought he was over this. After all, he had a home and a supportive family now. He shouldn't feel like this, he had his sister, little brother and the other younger ones to look after.
And yet he wanted to see you again.
You made him feel like he had freedom. It wasn’t like the one he was granted when he and Lynette were free from being street rats. And strangely enough, it wasn’t like the freedom “Father” granted him when she took him away from the cruel mansion.
He felt bliss with you. He felt like how the audience looked in the countless times he performed on stage.
Was that how it felt like to live normally? To live in bliss and ignore the world’s harsh reality, even for a few moments.
He used to stutter a lot as a young boy. Whenever his juvenile performances went wrong or a slip of the tongue in pronouncing large words.
Yet he seemed to awfully flustered around you a lot of the time.
He even gave you a Rainbow Rose of all things.
It’s what felt the most appropriate he thought.
“ Oh no..”
The realization hit him like a Mitachurl’s Axe.
“ Father is definitely going to kill me if she ever finds out about this. Lynette might as well.” He cried.
“ACHOO!”
“Ugh, I should’ve gotten out of the port sooner. I might come down with a cold.” He sniffled.
‘Maybe someone’s thinking of me.’ He thought.
Before you went into your room, you had asked the reception for a vase you could borrow. They immediately noticed the flower on you and gave you a sneaky glance. Ignoring them, you went and filled the vase with water.
Before going to bed you placed the rose in the vase, on your nightstand so when the morning came it would get sun.
The last thing you saw when you fell into slumber was the rose. The memory of that charming magician is still vivid in your mind.
Perhaps, you could delay your trip back home.
After all,
He did steal your heart and had yet to give it back.

Strangely Charming - Chapter 18
Tumblr media
(Not my gif. I couldn’t find a good one of Colin with any face injuries... so this’ll have to do; Jethro Cane is exactly what I imagine Cal to look like anyway, he legit has the same bracelet thing but a different ring.)
Chapter Sum: Maeve finally shows up to the aftermath at the Byers’ and another secret of Calcifer’s is revealed to The Party.
A/N: Just wanted to put a little note that Calcifer calls Maeve “luv” a few times which is not the same as calling her “love” yeah I know they’re the exact same word, but he’s saying it in a familial sense so I use the “l-u-v” spelling.
Warnings:  Injury and blood mention.
Words: 1912

Outfit for this chapter/day: (No makeup included because she’s not wearing any)

Maeve had just slammed her car door closed when the front door of the Byers’ opened and Max ran out with a set of keys, Mike behind her with an armful of things Maeve couldn’t distinguish. Max stopped suddenly when she saw Maeve.
“Mae?”
“Max, where is-?” Maeve stopped when Calcifer stepped out into the doorway. "Cal!" The look of relief on her face made him smile sheepishly, wincing as it pulled at his busted lip.
“Hey,” he said. Maeve ran past Max, who continued towards the Camaro to open the trunk, and Calcifer caught her in a hug. “Oof-! Careful, luv.”
“Where have you been?” Maeve asked as she pulled away. “I couldn’t find you!” He pulled her back into a tight hug as her voice broke.
“I’m sorry,” he mumbled into her hair as he rubbed her back. “I’m sorry, I’m okay… Didn’t mean to worry you.”
“But you’re not okay.” She pulled away again and reached up to the small cut on his temple and bruise on his cheek, grimacing at his split lip. "What the hell happened to you?"
“This?” he asked with a small scoff. “This is nothing; you should see the other guy.” He motioned behind him and immediately closed his eyes with a grimace. Maeve looked behind him to see the two middle school boys struggling to move an unconscious Steve; they turned to see her and froze like deer in headlights.
"Uh, we don't have time to explain," Dustin said quickly.
“What happened to him?” Maeve asked when she realized how bloody Steve’s face was but there was a lack of blood on Calcifer’s knuckles. It took a moment for her to register the second body on the floor "What is going on, Cal?" She turned to him. “Who was fighting who?”
“Steve was getting his ass kicked and Cal tried to help him,” Lucas said.
"Yeah uh… Mae, luv, I uh-" Calcifer chuckled nervously as she looked up at him with a frown. "I kinda let the cat outta the bag. Not- not completely but… yeah. They know."
“Yeah, but don’t worry, we have a friend who basically has magic powers too,” Dustin said as Max and Mike came back inside.
“Maeve, I'm sorry, but we don’t have time to play catch up,” she said.
"It’ll only take a second. Sit. Lemme see," Maeve said as she helped Calcifer sit down on the arm of the couch. The kids watched her eyes glow briefly, Calcifer’s gaining a faint glow before both faded to their natural colours. "Shit, you know you're not supposed to do so much without me around," she chided. “I tried to find you but something kept interfering… Guess this was why… Why didn’t you call for me before?”
“Wasn’t time?” he said with a shrug. She shook her head at him and reached for the cuts on his face, but he gently pushed her hands away, shaking his head. "Leave it."
"What did you just do?" Max asked.
"Checked my memory," Calcifer said.
"You can do that?!" Dustin squeaked.
"Only with Cal," Maeve assured them. “Now I’m all caught up.” Maeve moved to kneel beside Steve. “Is his nose broken?” Maeve moved to gently tilt his head, grimacing at the damage.
“Probably,” Dustin said with a wince then his eyes lit up. “Can you fix him?”
“Well, believe it or not his nose isn’t broken broken,” she said as she stood.
“What does that mean?” Mike asked.
“It means it’s not bad enough where I’m allowed to help.”
“Allowed?” Mike asked incredulously.
“I’m not supposed to do anything to anyone without their permission. That includes healing. The only exceptions would be if it would save their life, if there would be permanent damage otherwise, or if say Cal did something he shouldn’t have,” she explained, looking away from the claw marks on the blond’s arms to give Calcifer a look.
“Blondie started it,” he mumbled as he looked away.
“Besides, you gotta think about it, how would you explain to him,” Maeve motioned to Billy, as she moved to him, “who I assume is responsible for this, how Steve looks completely fine when he sees him at school without mentioning magical healing?"
"Yeah. As much as this hurts," Calcifer gestured to his face. "He'd question it on Monday if I didn't look like this."
"It’s not as simple as doing whatever we want,” Maeve said as she looked down at the still slightly bleeding claw marks on the boy’s arms and placed her hands over them.
“Yeah, we have rules we have to follow, kid, remember. People aren’t supposed to know about us, otherwise we get in trouble,” Calcifer said, "and I broke a lot of rules tonight," he added with a sigh.
"Yeah, you did," Maeve said, putting her hands on her hips as she stood.
"He was helping us!" Lucas protested.
"Protecting us!" Dustin added.
"Yeah, you can’t be mad at him for that!” Max agreed.
“Hey, hey, I’m not mad. I saw what happened.” Maeve let out a sigh. “We'll get it all sorted later. Just wish you would’ve tried to call me before you lost so much energy.” Calcifer gave her a sheepish shrug.
“To be fair I didn’t really know what we were doing,” he said. “If I knew it was as serious as interdimensional evil… things I probably would’ve tried to call sooner… or left a note.”
“That’s my bad,” Dustin said with a sheepish look to Maeve as he raised a hand. "Sorry…" Maeve closed her eyes briefly as she shook her head.
“We need to move the car closer or it’s gonna take all night to move him,” Max said as she motioned to Steve before she held out the keys to Calcifer who raised his eyebrows.
"I can't drive," he said, holding up his hands.
"Fine, then I will," Max said.
"Hold on!" Maeve protested but looked conflicted as she looked between the group and the other unconscious boy
"Mae, he won't wake up for a while," Calcifer said, motioning towards the knocked out blond. "I kinda also… He saw…" He motioned to his eyes and made a claw shape with his hands.
"Cal!"
"Look, I still think we should just leave Steve here!" Mike said. "Now she can stay here with him and we can go!"
"No, he'll be cool! I swear, he'll be fine," Dustin argued.
“He’s gonna freak out-!”
“No, he won’t!”
"Guys! We need to get going!" Max shouted. “We still need to get gas, lighter fluid, something.”
The group moved outside to where the pile of shed stuff was and found canisters of gasoline, lighter fluid, etc. Maeve helped reluctantly, helping them load everything into the back of the car after turning it around and moving it closer to the house for them. She didn’t like the idea of them putting themselves in danger, but understood why and knew Calcifer would be there to protect them.
"Why doesn't Cal just stay here too?" Mike suggested as they finished loading everything, slamming the trunk closed.
"What did I do?" Calcifer asked.
"Your battery is still drained, dude," Dustin said.
"But you're gonna bring the guy who is, right now, as useful as a sack of potatoes?"
"Cal…" Maeve said, putting a hand over her face.
"Not the time, man," Dustin said as he shook his head.
"Really? Not even a chuckle? Irish… potatoes…? Just tryin’a lighten the mood," he muttered.
“We’re not gonna fit all six of us in the car anyway!” Mike snapped. “So either we leave Steve here or we leave Cal here. Or both!”
“There’s no way I’m letting you go there without Cal,” Maeve said as she shook her head.
“Then we’re leaving Steve.”
“No!” Dustin protested.
“Okay look,” Maeve said, “Cal can recharge on the ride there… you all just have to not freak out about how."
"Really?" Calcifer asked, his eyes widening, looking reluctant.
"What? How can he recharge?" Dustin asked, looking between the two.
"By really letting the cat-"
"Cal, you finish that pun, I swear…" Maeve warned.
"Alright, alright!" He held up his hands. "Just… gimme a sec." He went back into the house and hesitated in the doorway before stepping out of sight.
"What is he doing?" Lucas asked.
“We don’t have time for this!” Mike shouted. A moment later a black cat walked out and over to Maeve. She scooped him up with a smile, rubbing his head as she cradled him.
"Now that wasn’t so hard, was it?" she asked. The cat made a small whine like meow.
"Uhh… what?" Max asked. The cat made a low noise as it hid its face in Maeve's shirt.
"Is that-?" Dustin pointed at the cat, looking back and forth between it and the door.
"No," Lucas said, shaking his head as he looked at Dustin, "it can't be."
"What are you talking about?" Max asked.
"I think… that's Cal," Dustin said as he pointed at the cat.
"Don't be ridiculous," Mike said.
"So magic and all that is fine, but you draw the line at familiars who can change forms?" Maeve asked as she put the cat down. It laid down, putting its head on its paws, effectively hiding its face. "He'll recharge a lot faster this way, especially since I'm not going with you," Maeve explained.
"Now the cat comments make sense," Dustin said with a big smile and a chuckle. He picked up the cat that squeaked in surprise before blinking at him. "Come on. I'm the only one here who's ever had a cat before, you'll sit with me."
"Let me help you get Steve in the car," Maeve said. Max opened the door of the Camaro and pulled the seat forward so they could get Steve into the back. Dustin got in first with Cal and helped Mike get Steve onto the middle seat. Mike grabbed a jerry can of gasoline that wouldn’t fit in the trunk before climbing into the back with them.
They were ready to leave, everyone loaded into the car, and Max’s window down for Maeve to speak to them.
“I could always follow behind and come with you to help,” she offered.
“We’ve got this,” Mike said.
“Why are you turning down a literal mage?” Lucas asked, turning to give him a look like he thought he was crazy.
“El is our mage,” Mike snapped back.
“Hey, I’m not trying to replace anyone here,” Maeve said. “Just thought I’d offer the extra help. By the time you get there Cal will be pretty much good enough to help just as much as me anyway. He’s good at protection stuff.” The cat started to purr and Dustin grinned as he pat it on the head.
“Then we don’t need you.” Cal made a low noise and Dustin moved so the cat was further from Mike, petting his head gently.
“I’m going to ignore the unnecessary rudeness because I understand you’re worried about her,” Maeve said. “You’re sure you can drive this?” she asked, turning to Max.
“I’ve driven a car before,” she said with a nod.
“Okay.” Maeve stood up straight and backed away from the car as Max started it.
“Maeve?” Max said. She glanced back towards the house.
“I can bring him back to your house.” The girl looked conflicted. Maeve gave her a knowing look and a slightly forced smile. "I know..." Max nodded.
“Just… be careful.”
Tumblr media
A/N: I had to have Maeve NOT go with them because otherwise I couldn’t have certain things in the next few chapters and otherwise it would’ve been super easy..

The Villainous Paranoiac Just Wants An Uneventful Holiday (Part 1)
This is not how you wanted to spend your break.
The school was supposed to be empty. Everyone except the Octavinelle trio was supposed to be gone.
Not to say you don’t enjoy your friends’ company but. No magic-using people means no magic-spewing overblots.
You were looking forward to just bringing the fairies their firewood and working on your winter homework while taking the first opportunity in a good long while to unwind with Grim and the ghosts. No investigations to worry about, no weird dreams to get worked up over, no overblots to frantically try and survive.
You wanted a break.
This? Marching 10km into the desert with the rest of Scarabia dorm for the third day in a row due to their leader’s looming psychotic breakdown? This is not a break.
Although...
There’s definetely something rotten in Scarabia dorm, you think to yourself as you watch Viper-senpai hand out skeins of water. Kalim-senpai had no problem using his unique magic yesterday, and yet today he acted like Grim had mortally insulted him when he asked for a repeat performance.
If the outburst had been after two or three other instances of Kalim-senpai using Oasis Maker and receiving what he felt were insufficient thanks for it, then his current attitude would make a little more sense. But taking umbrage after using it just once? And being universally praised by everyone else the rest of the day for it?
It doesn’t add up.
Even deranged behavior has some sort of internal logic to it, as Rosehearts-senpai and the Rules of the Queen of Hearts have taught you. Even with how nonsensical all 810 rules are, it’s rare to find a scenario where one rule actually conflicts with another— all of them usually work smoothly in tandem with the goal of having an orderly unbirthday party in mind.
Even if they do violate most forms of dignity and common sense.
Kalim-senpai’s behavior though? It’s erratic without rhyme or reason, bouncing from nice to mean and back again seemingly as he enters and exits a room. He insists you and Grim stay and participate in this asinine “training”, despite the fact that you both belong to a different dorm, and are technically rivals to Scarabia in Magift and exams.
If you didn’t know better, you’d say it’s almost like he’s trying to imitate Rosehearts-senpai before his overblot—and doing poorly at it.
And with how much Viper-senpai has been invoking parallels between the current situation and what happened back then...
The smartphone Crowley gave you is a cold, heavy weight in your pocket. Its charge ran out yesterday, which is unsurprising given how many times you dialed and redialed the dumb bird headmaster’s number only to be met with his voicemail. You can probably recite that stupid message by heart now. You’ve heard nothing from Ace and Deuce either.
One thing is clear; no one’s going to help you out of this mess but you.
“Kalim-senpai?” You brace yourself as you step towards him. “Can I ask you something?”
“What could you possibly question me about?” He barks, glaring down at you haughtily.
“Well, I was just wondering, what’s the point of all this?” You fight to keep your nerve as his posture stiffens. “I don’t mean any disrespect, none at all, but you do want everyone to do better in Magift and exams, don’t you? I was hoping you could explain to me how the parades and defensive magic training are supposed to do that. I apologize for my ignorance, I’m nowhere near as smart as you, but could you please tell me why we don’t just practice Magift and brush up on the class material inst—”
Tumblr media
Your head’s ringing.
You think you hear faint yelling, though it sounds like it’s coming from somewhere far away.
Your cheek aches.
Numbness blooming into a sharp stinging throb that feels like it’s growing with every second that passes, burning hotter than the sun above you.
You cautiously poke your tongue against your teeth, but none feel loose, thank the Seven.
Damn, the desperate, near-hysterical thought flits through your head. Even a pampered rich boy like him has strength behind his hits, huh?
The rest of you is just trying to process what the Hell just happened.
Tumblr media
“How. Dare. You?!”
Asim-sama looms over you, red eyes burning with fury.
It’s a fight to keep yourself from curling into a terrified ball under his gaze, tucking into yourself as though seeing less of you would abate the anger, the shouting, the hurt, like you used to when you were a child.
“You dare to question my methods, my leadership of this dorm?! You? A sniveling street rat leeching off my hospitality?! Do you know who I am?!” He rages. “I am Kalim al-Asim! I am the Head of this dorm! I don’t have to explain ANYTHING, justify ANYTHING to the likes of you!!”
You knew, you knew you were pushing your luck when you first asked, but you thought it would just be yelling, like it was before. You can handle yelling, nothing Asim-sama can say could ever be worse than what you’ve already heard.
You didn’t think he’d hit you.
You didn’t think he’d hit you.
You didn’t think—
Tumblr media
“DON'T YOU TOUCH MY MINION, FGNAH!”
Your arm whips out almost on instinct.
You jolt forward slightly as Grim collides with it, hissing and spitting like he really was an irate cat, the flames in his ears flaring brightly enough that some detached part of you is worried about getting burned.
The other Scarabia students are reaching for their magic pens.
“Lemme at ‘im! Lemme at ‘im!!” Your friend howls, fighting to get past you. “Forget butt on fire, I’ll BURN IT TO A CRISP FOR HURTING MY MINION!! I'LL STEAL EVERYTHING YOU HAVE AND SELL IT FOR LUXURY TUNA!! THIS IS WHAT YOU GET FOR CROSSING THE GREAT GRIM—”
“No, Grim.”
Your friend halts in his flailing to stare uncomprehendingly at you. “But Yuu—!”
“It was my fault.” You say, trying to keep as much emotion out of your voice as possible. Tears and trembling only show weakness, only make them worse. “Asim-sama was just correcting me. He was right to do so. I shouldn’t have questioned him. I overstepped my bounds.”
Asim-sama sniffs. “At least you know your place. Be glad I don’t punish you anymore than this.”
“What?! He slapped you for asking a question, you can’t possibly believe—” You gather Grim into your arms and hug him close. You quietly thank the Great Seven you at least have him, trying to hide the quiver in your limbs by burying your face in his fur.
But that’s exactly why you can’t let him do this. It’s just the two of you, you can’t win against an entire dorm of wizards like you did against the ghosts. Maybe if Ace and Deuce and Jack were here...but it’s just you. You need to protect your friend in the only way you can. “We can’t win this. Please, Grim.”
You feel him grumble, then a paw carefully pushes at your forehead. “Hrm...I’ll show mercy for now, so geroff already. It’s too hot for you to keep hugging me like this, I’m cooking here fgnah.”
Despite saying so, he settles onto your shoulder, tail smacking your arm as it flicks irritably.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“If you’ll excuse me, Asim-sama.” You duck your head slightly. “I will remove myself from your sight and head back early as penance for my behavior. Once again, my deepest apologies for insulting you.”
Asim-sama gives you a curt, dismissive nod.
You turn and make your way through the crowd of Scarabia students, snatches of muttered conversations floating to your ears.
“How could he—?”
“Just for a question?”
“Isn’t that going too far...?”
“Unforgivable...”
“Prefect.” Viper-senpai takes you by the shoulder, turning you to face him. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” You reply monotonously, eyes on the sand below you. “Just...just need to be by myself for a bit.”
His lips purse and you can feel him study your face. He presses a full water skein into your hands. “Take this. Even if it’s not as cold as I’d like, it should help with the swelling some. Plus you need to stay hydrated out there.”
“Thank you, Viper-senpai.” You nod, keeping your eyes down.
“And Prefect?” He squeezes your shoulder, voice lowering only a fraction. “I am truly sorry about this. All of this. It will not happen again, you have my word.”
It would’ve been a nice apology, had you not caught a glimpse of a smirk on his face.
You nod, making sure not to outwardly react to that or to the way the whispers of the other Scarabia students turn from the condemnation of their dorm head to the exaltation of the vice dorm head. You begin following the tracks in the sand back to the main dorm.
The sun beats down on your back as you take a swig from the skein and pass it to Grim to drink from. He’s still grumbling about how you should’ve let him recreate his rampage at the entrance ceremony.
For your part, the distance and good company have let you pull yourself out of that headspace enough that you can try and look back objectively on what happened.
Your mind keeps circling back around to one question: why did Asim-senpai hit you?
Based on your interactions before this, Asim-senpai doesn’t seem to be the type to resort to physical violence as a first response, or even a last one. Which means something in your question likely backed him into a corner enough that the normally pacifistic dorm head felt lashing out physically was the only way to get you to stop.
...Like the fact that he couldn’t answer it?
Even when screaming abuse at you, his ultimate response was that he wouldn’t explain himself to you. Is that because he didn’t want to? Or because he couldn’t? Does Asim-senpai himself not know the reasons behind his own actions? But how can someone act without knowing or meaning to, without being under the influence somehow?
Under the influence.
People acted without knowing or meaning to thanks to being under the influence of Buchie-senpai’s Unique Magic during the Magift incident. But he went home, you saw him leave, so what...?
You pull out your notebook, flipping through the pages with sweaty hands until you get to your records of the testimonies from the incident. You scan through the testimonies from Scarabia students, hoping to find something, anything—
Oh.
Oh.
“Motherfucker.” You hiss, staring at the page in dismay. You are an idiot. You are the biggest idiot, you make Deuce look like a genuis, how could you forget about this?? It was only the key testimony that helped pinpoint Buchie-senpai and Savannahclaw as the culprits behind the injuries. And it explains so much— why you kept agreeing to stay here despite wanting to go back to Ramshackle so desperately, almost like your mouth was speaking without your consent.
“Minion?” Grim asks, pushing the water skein back onto you. “What’s wrong?”
You snap your notebook shut and slide it back into your pocket, taking another fortifying swig from the skein. “Grim? Think we can get back soon enough to work on the escape route in our room before the others arrive back for lunch?”
“If we pick up the pace a bit, yeah.” He hops back onto your shoulder. “But what’s the rush? We have all night tonight to work on it.”
“Let’s just say the sooner we can get out of here, the better.” You mutter, cogs and gears turning in your head as a tentative plan begins to form.
This is not how you wanted to spend your winter break.

Prinxiety fic recs
Hey everyone, I know isolation is difficult, and a good majority of the fandom use fics as an escape mechanism, so hopefully some people can get a kick out of some of these. As my blog title suggests, I mostly just consume prinxiety content, so this list is for any prinxiety stans out there. Feel free to add on with your own fics or recs, regardless of ship! All fics are completed unless stated otherwise, to avoid giving anyone WIPlash. :)
First up, literally anything by the Queen of Prinxiety (and stunning writing in general) @coconut-cluster. Hers was one of the first blogs who’s writing I got really invested in, and her writing is like the equivalent of snuggling into a warm blanket in the sunshine. It’s good stuff y’all. Writing masterlist If you’re overwhelmed by how many incredible stories she’s written though, I gotchu fam, here are some of my favourites to get you started: Sciamachy, My dreams made music in the night, Snowball fight
Powerless by @impatentpending . One of the best stories I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading, better than most published literature I daresay. Seriously it’s just,,, so good!!! If you haven’t read it yet I highly recommend you do. You’ve got morally grey villains, you’ve got wit, you’ve got a hoverbike named Brendon Urie. It’s an all round good time, except when, you know, it’s angsty.
The To Love And Be Loved series by @virgilsjourney It’s so soft!!! So light and sweet and comforting!!! You’ve got hurt/comfort (heavy on the comfort) with a large helping of mutual pining, and it’s the perfect fic if you need a pick-me-up after a long day.
Butterflies by @creativenostalgiastuff . I live for techie Virgil and this fic does not disappoint. Incredibly cute, Roman gets the validation he deserves, 10/10.
My true love gave to me by @lovelylogans Honestly my favourite oneshot of all time, I giggle the whole way through when reading this. The sheer magnitude of their mutual pining,,, incredible. Genuinely this fic is so wonderful and funny and lighthearted and sweet and hhhhhhhhhh. Looking at her masterlist I’ve also come to realise that she’s written a lot of my favourites, so I’ll just link that here! :)
Wet blanket , Life of the party and Social grace by @tulipscomeinallsortsofcolors. A tad angsty, but so worth the read, and they more than make up for any potential hurt with the gratuitous fluff. Hella soft, superb writing. On another note, if you haven’t already, you should absolutely read their jaw-droppingly amazing series Love and other fairytales. Romantic lamp and a heck tonne of cool worldbuilding, gripping plot and fae galore, prepare to become thoroughly invested.
A dragon’s tail by @theeternalspace . This one had me on the edge of my seat you guys, it’s so gripping you’ll wanna stay up all night reading it. You’ve got prince!Virgil, you’ve got knight!Roman, you’ve got Dragon!Logan. Need I say more?
The most adorable Parents!Prinxiety headcanons you ever did read, by the incredible @thelowlysatsuma , with a tooth-rottingly sweet fic to go with it by @watchoutforthefanfics . You WILL get cavities and you WILL sob at the soft domesticity of it all.
@shakesqueer-writes is lowkey a Prinxiety GOD so I’m just gonna link you to their whole entire masterlist of masterpieces.
The phenomenal It’s only logical by @tinysidestrashcaptain . This one is incomplete, but it’s honestly so perfectly written that it’s going on here anyway. I can only dream of achieving Virgil’s level of sass in this fic, an absolute icon. It’s a flower shop au AND a coffee shop au babyyy.
I can only assume from the remarkable quality of the writing that Keep him safe by @whatwashernameagain gets recommended a lot, as it RIGHTLY DESERVES. This fic is also incomplete, but so worth waiting for, each new chapter is a sucker punch of emotions and the character development is second to none. I’d definitely heed the trigger warnings on this one though, it does handle (very well and realistically) some darker themes. There’s also a raccoon named Cat and I love her.
A get-together and getting together by @hickory-dickory-doc-k Fake! dating! Fake! Dating! Fake! Dating! Fak- Ok but for real though guys this one is so gosh darn cute I dropped everything on Christmas day to rush upstairs and read it when the last chapter came out and I was grinning so much lemme tell you. I’ve read a lot of fake dating aus in my time and this one honestly takes the cake.
(I’d never) want once from the cherry tree written by @ace-corvid with gorgeous art to go with it by @blank-ace . YouTuber au!!! Virgil gets to be the chaotic conspiracy guy we know he secretly longs to be, and Roman gets the adoring fanbase he deserves. The humour is also on point. I mean, Deceit’s name in Virgil’s contacts is Snake fursona man, and honestly if that doesn’t sell it, I don’t know what will.
Of trying and towers by @parsnipit . An oldie but a classic, this story is phenomenal. It’s got action! It’s got magical curses! It’s got so many dragons! It’s got highkey terrified but also kinda badass Virgil! It’s so good you guys, the plot and the family bonding and hhhhhhh dragons are so cool.
Destined by @rosesisupposes . Oooooh this one has such a fun premise. Virgil’s a sage (kind of like a seer) and is just kinda vibing with the humans until sh*t goes down, ft sass, flirting, pun-based bakeries, and a coffee machine named Gilda. It’s great. I love it.
Long live by @meginoi . It’s!!! Essentially a really cool princess diaries au!!! How rad is that? Virgil is pretty much permanently stressed, but Pat and Lo are supportive bros and he ;) has ;) Roman ;) there ;) to ;) help.
Falling (falling) by @basically-i-write-shit . Don’t let their url fool you this fic is honestly so gripping, I stayed up way into morning bingeing it. Be warned though, it does handle some pretty dark topics, so heed the trigger warnings. ft. single dad Virgil and babysitter Roman!
Inks and tallies by @skittlesun . Tattoo 👏 artist 👏 Roman 👏 Frick 👏 Yeah 👏 Also by the same author, the amazing fic The betting pool is an absolute delight. Flirting galore. Go read it pls.
Late night, long night by @crowleyspraisekink . Virgil’s in a tank top and Roman is Gay Panic tm. Adorable, superb, 10/10.
A curse is a dream your heart makes by @romansleftshoulderpad This oneshot is a long boi but my god you will enjoy every single second of it. Roman gets cursed by the Dragon witch to act out classic Disney movies with Virgil, and it’s honestly so entrancing. Phenomenal writing.
Queen of fluff @not-so-innocent-bi-sander has so much adorable fics that I’m gonna link their whole masterlist because you deserve to treat yourself to their writing, and I’m also gonna add some quick links to my faves here because I love them: The reunion, Romance in the air…port, Guitar lessons. The first fic of theirs I read is the series The view from here, and it was so heartwarmingly sweet that it helped distract me from some pretty bad cramps, so I highly recommend you go check that out if you need a cute pick me up. It’s incomplete, but it’s mostly fluff and ongoing, so you won’t be left on any cliffhangers.
Thespian by @random-snippets is a heart-wrenchingly sweet hurt/comfort fic that I wholeheartedly recommend. Roman puts on a play in the imagination but neglects to tell Virgil that his character straight up dies at the end, and Virgil is understandably distraught. It’s ok though, Virgil gets love and hugs! Also just check out their masterlist because their writing is absolutely sensational, especially their pining!Virgil LAMP fics.
Through different eyes by @stars-and-rose . Roman’s a warlock who’s been ‘kidnapping’ Patton in an endearing attempt to get the handsome knight’s ;) attention. Super cute and a fun read, honestly it’s adorable.
@today-only-happens-once is another phenomenal writer who’s masterlist I’m also gonna link because they’re all! So! Good!!! Here’s some of my faves: Exposure therapy ft Ace!Roman, Acoustic, Always
A hero’s rescue by @stillebesat . Villain!Roman and Hero!Virgil ft a healthy dose of hurt/comfort and a a really cool premise. I go back and re-read this one a lot!
Welcome to the neighbourhood by @lefaystrent is incomplete, but it’s so goddamn hysterical that it’s going on here anyway. Their comedic genius is astounding. Some more of my favourites of theirs include: Roamin’ nights, Flutter and fall, Rewrite
Blink and you’ll miss it and waterspout by @greenninjagal-blog are both lovely reads which I highly recommend. Seriously guys their writing is amazing, go check them out.
Sweet dreams and Petals red as blood by @candied-peach are both gorgeously written and I absolutely adore them, 10/10.

TW Prologue: So enters the Wizard part 3
   AN// If y’all want to check out the earlier parts here ya go!  But with that out of the way lets start the chapter~ pt1, pt2
                                                            ~~~
       Even after the battle ended moments ago, the feelings of both party's magic still crackled in the air. The warm fury of Grim's flames and the erratic crackling of Zoroaster's magic still seemed to battle like echoes. Rarely ceasing even as Crowley began to speak, he welcomed the new students in and congratulated Zoro on his win. His yellow glowing eyes curving into crescents as he gave a welcoming smile to all 6 of the students of NRC. Now, finally turning to his oh so trusted prefect, Crowley said,
"Oh Prefect, could you be so gracious and guide the dorm to their new home, I will join soon but I have, some, ahem, very busy-busy work I must complete, I'm sure you you understand."
     As Yuu went to speak, each time a sound left their mouth, they saw Crowley leaving faster and faster. Either mistakenly or on purpose, the headmaster didn't hear the prefect's voice as he slithered away. Leaving Yuu to do his work once more. Relenting in a massive sigh, Yuu pinched the bridge of their nose
     Already tired and annoyed,the prefect gazed up at their dorm mates and gave a strained smile. Even though the headmaster was, shady to say the least, at least they now had more members besides Grim in ramshackle. Speaking of which, Grim now found himself once again in the accursed death grip that was, Theodore's bombardment of pets and hugs.
"Ffnnrrgh! Lemme go, I'm not some pet you know?!!" Grim hissed at the boy, digging his paws desperately into the black fabric. Frantically grasping at the green boy's cloak, trying to wiggle and nudge out the assault of love, but sadly the magician found no escape in sight. "Rragh! Tall minion, save me!" The monster called, only to be left purring seconds after.
Speaking of his "minion," Zoroaster's face cranked into a playful grin at the sight in front of him. Leaning on his cane, and resting his head in his hands the dorm leader chuckled and gave an answer.
" awwwe, why'd i do that?" He cooed before straighting up, as soon a trinkle sparkled in his gold eyes as he snapped his left hand to the air, clawing to the sky as with each inflection his voice grew in size and power. As every title he bestowed upon Grim became more explosive than the last "
     The great, magnificent and powerful! raccoon," he evened out, "looks like he's enjoyin' himself alot" shrugging, he strolled a bit forward and gave the monster a mock bow, "now, who's lil' ole me to disturb that" he snickered.
"Raccoon?! I am not-prrr, a raccoon!"
"Oh my mistake, the great kitten~"he teased
"I'm not a cat mmm-neither! Uggh, Yuu, do something!" He begged
     Giggling lightly, the perfect said "if you're both enjoying yourselves so much I can't bring myself to stop it. Sorry grim, have fun you two, be sure not to go too crazy okay?" Pausing for a moment with elation in his brown eyes, Theodore quickly gave the two a quick salute before smiling brightly.
"Aye aye prefect! Which to this, Zoro gave a two finger salute, and Yuu simply nodded before they continued with a clap of their hands.
"I guess a greeting's in order, hello everyone, my name is Yuu Nezumi, you can call me whatever you want to. Like Headmaster Crowley said, I'm the perfect. You can ask me anything pretty much, Heheh"
     they said bashfully, they're used to being small but still. Being surrounded by so many people taller than them is still unnerving at times. They're so thankful for riddle, at least he's close to their height a bit.
"Ahem, just everyone follow me alright? I'll show you all to the dorm soon!" They brightly said, turning on their heels to lead the group. Only receiving a few few okays, sures, aye-ayes and one grunt from Dorothy as they began to walk off.
     Watching the group for a time, Zoro kicked the tip of the cane and swung it on his shoulder. The movements almost second nature to him at this point. But before he could follow the group out, he soon heard an increasing rush of foot steps thunder towards him. Turning to his right, he saw a boy with golden locks and purplish highlights sway his hips in a march, stamping towards him like he did a national crime. With a slight frown on his model face, the boy simply yelled,
"Ozma! A word would you please?" Despite the question, it sounded more like a demand by his stiff tone. Eyes drifting to the group again, he shrugged and turned to face the approaching boy.
"Mmm, sure what's up pretty boy" he said casually, wonder what he needs me for the boy thought, but whatever else was tumbling through his mind, nothing prepared him for what he heard next.
"Take off, your belt!" The boy demanded pointedly
"Eh?" The Wizard asked, gold eyes widening in honest disbelief, looking to the other dorm heads, he saw the red head from befire face palm, the silver haired boy still looked as carefree as ever, and the glasses wearing boy simply hummed in amusement. "Wha- no, the heck you mean take off my belt?" The wizard chuckled, only to see on the pretty boy's face, a stone serious look, like his purple eyes are trying to bore a holes through him second after second.
"As an upperclassmen, and especially as head of dorm Pomfiore, I must advise you on wearing our schools robes properly!" He grasped Zoroaster's top robe and tried to force it together "they are our School's most formal attire, and must be respected, do you understand me? As dorm leader you are the representation of every member of your dorm" He nagged, only to find his manicured hands swatted away whilst the wizard's off hand returned to his waist.
"Alright karen, first thing, nah, I'm not fixing anything. Second of all, they're just clothes." He shrugged, clothes were just clothes to him, and he'd wear them how he decided. "Besides, who're you to be orderin' me around?" Vil's pristine eyebrows cocked up at taller boy, how rude of him, thought the model
But before the argument could continue, a voice interrupted the model before he could speak, as soon the clicks of the shorter boy approached the two dorm leaders.
"Vil, while I agree with what you've said completely, I would also like to advise Zoroaster as well" Riddle said to Vil sighing in response, walking off with Rook in tow.
"Oh it's the short one" Zoro spoke bluntly, but soon a surge of anger filled the room, as playful gold eyes met anger filled silver.
"Did, did you just call me...short?!" Riddle spat, his face instantly contorting from stern to rage-filled in seconds as his brows furrowed, glaring at the smirking boy before him Riddle slowly took in deep breaths as he tried to calm himself once more. "Huff, if it were any other day I would have your head, count yourself lucky, Ozma" he said smugly
"Oh i'd like to see ya try, though wouldn't ya just get my chest, shrimpy~" he teased, gazing as the red began to fill the second year once again.
"Grrr, My my, eager to be shown your place I see~? Well I would be happy to oblige, but for now, listen to this, as dorm leader of Heartslaybul, I'll give you this advice, as a dorm head. It is your responsibility to look after those under you. If someone shall fail it is on you, lead them as best you can!" As Zoro saw riddle's expression, for a moment he saw the stern face of the boy become lost in thought, but soon the stern walls were back up as he and the rest of his dorm made their leave.
Though as they began to walk off, a boy with curly silver locks and murky violet eyes walked up to the dorm leader as well. With a thin smile crossing his face, Azul gifted Zoro a pleasant smile, but that expression never reached his eyes as he clapped for the boy before him
"That was a fantastic show Zoroaster, it nearly brought a tear to my face I must say. It is certainly wonderful to have a..." The more Azul spoke the more muffled his voice became to Zoroaster. Every word that left Azul's mouth was coated with honey and that made Zoro's mind swim with memories. As two voices whispered in his thoughts, a faceless pair of people hovered in his mind. Memories were flooding second after second as the dorm leader spoke, being drowned out by the voices in Zoro's mind.
     A manipulative brassy voice rumbled in his ears, his father's words slithered in his mind the longer the exchange went on. "Step one, make someone comfortable, show 'em a charming face or personality, sweeten every word before going forward" Check Zoro thought, as after a while of talking Azul began to finish what he was saying.
"But just so you know, if you ever need any help feel free to visit the Monstro lounge at any time. I'm certain we can come to some sort of deal. Heheh, especially for such a treasured underclassmen such as yourself~" he sang, but as he went to continue, a tsk and three simple words broke his concentration.
"shut up bitch!" At this Azul's eyes widened as he tried to make sure he heard Zoroaster correctly.
"E-Excuse me? I'm sorry what did I ever do to upset you?" Azul prodded. Scratching the back of his head, Zoro lazily kicked the ground beside him as he sighed and looked dead into Azul's glasses covered eyes.
"Huff, I'm guessin' as soon as you make a deal, you bleed 'em dry and leave them with nothin' huh?" Every word and accusation that left Zoro described with venom as once more memories flooded in his head, images of begging and destitute people snapped in his head before he asked the second again, "How's my guess Azul, accurate?" Cocking his head to the side, he eased forward towards Azul, nearly getting eye to eye with the robed dorm leader, like he was daring the octopus to prove him wrong.
"Oh, it saddens me that you think so dear Ozma. Why, I don't know what you could be talking about, I own a very respectable business, I simply give aid to our fellow students, to help such unfortunate souls as best I can. I assure you, there's nothing to fear" Azul said, feigning being insulted by Zoroaster's guess as a genuine smirk soon began to cross upon Azul's face. Soon followed up by an obviously fake smile of Zoroaster's in return.
"Oh~ but of course my mistake, you're quite the philanthropist indeed~" Zoro mockingly copied azul's cadence and voice as he spoke, exaggerating every inch of falseness with every syllable. "But, I must say, you've inspired me, Azul"
"Oh ho? Well I'm happy to be of assistance Zoroaster"
"Mmm, as am I, for the longest I was wondering if I should reopen my shop, but seeing you has made my decision clear in reopening it. Honestly, I wouldn't mind offering you a break once in a while, I'm sure you must be tired being so, so kind" now standing before each other, both smirked a fake grin, teasing and challenging the other in a cordial manner.
"My goodness, that is certainly quite the decision, I wish you the best in that endeavor Mr.Ozma~"
"And as to you, Dorm leader~" after bidding the three adieu, Zoroaster began to walk off, not just because of his mood, but also because the longer he stayed, the farther the group was getting. But right before he left completely, the new dorm head paused for a moment, before turning to the last remaining dorm and vice dorm leaders before saying this.
"oh, almost forgot!"
     He chirped, turning his head back around a wicked fast weight pf magic filled the room, crackling erratically has Zoro's eyes once more blazed green. "If any, of my dorm members are hurt because of y'all. I'll pay you back two times what you did. I promise that" He threatened, but just as soon as that pressure arrived, it left in a snap as just like that, Zoroaster became easy going once more.
"Buuut yeah i should head out, dont wanna be lost now do I?" He hummed, chasing after the prefect.
Ramshackle Dorm~
"And this, is the dorm, home sweet home...heheh" behind Yuu was a leaning, nailed window having, wood chipoing and web wrapped dorm, as to add insult to injury, a plank of wood fell in a dusty heap. A knowing sensation weighed on Yuu's shoulders when they turned to their dorm mates. Walking farther a creak followed Yuu as a rainbow of expressions shone from the foyer. Utter terror(Regis), belly aching laughter(Zoro), oohing curiosity(Theodore), blinks of confusion(Solon), and a look of anger and neutrality from Dorothy and Fiyero respectively. "The headmaster said it had, character" they deadpanned
"Pfft, this-this is way too much character heheheh, but that definitely explain a lot" lumbering over, Dorothy pushed passed his cackling dorm head , as the floor cried with every stomp he took eeeer, eeer. Like it was threatening to just drop him then and there.
"You mean to tell me, we fixin' to lay here for the night?!" Dorothy barked, his eyes folding into a scowl as his fists balled at the prefect. Knuckles on his waist, and red eyes boring into Yuu's, the brunette snarled at the prefect. But by this point, Yuu was beyond tired, and paid the country boy no mind. Instead, they gave a high pitched laugh, and a thin grin, stepping up to taller boy groaning,
"Haha, if you want to sleep outside be my guest" they motioned before plopping down on the couch, kicking up dust. But that wasn't all, as in a flash three milky white forms erupted from the seats. Soaring and whirling around the students like a hurricane of laughs and jeers.
"G-g-g-g GHOSTS!!! Oh-oh no, let me go, please don't possess me!" Regis stuttered racing for the door, his sandled feet only getting so far to just get yanked back a second later by the top hat ghosts teasing him all the while.
"Awww stay a whi- yeep!" As Ghost A pulled the cat, he had to dart away dropping him in like a sack. As a bolt of lightning near blasted him away as from the group, he saw a dark skinned boy with crackling green eyes smiling wildly in the chaos, aiming a black cane to the sky with a toothy grin.
"What in the sam hill, boy get yo' self up ya lion, shoot ya claws out or something, it's ghost punchin' time" Dorothy called yanking up Regis, who only clung back to his tree trunk of a leg. Though since both are brick houses, it was more a wrecking ball wrapping around a bucking tree. "motgetdjb, let go 'o me ya varment!"
"Ooh! Ghosts are so cool, maybe they're friendly!" Chirped Theodore "Heya big guy! Hows it going!" Theodore waved happily at Ghost B
"Gah! Ghost, save me~" grim cried, still even now trapped inside Theo's arms.
"Hohoho, nice to meet ya too kiddo!" Chortled ghost b, as in the case of Solon, he only gazed around in bewilderment, raking his silver arm through his ginger hair. And as for Fiyero, well the scarecrow only shrugged and said,
"Welp, guess I'll die" as he watched the ghosts fly, but soon enough a shrill whistle tore through air, as Yuu stood,
"Hey! Everyone calm down, those guys are friendly, and for you three, those are our new dorm mates. Huff" they sighed. This is way too long a day thought Yuu. But after that break, all the ghosts could do now, was just hug the new arrivals. Laughing and (if they could) crying as they glomped the new residents. As of they didn't just haunt them all a second earlier.
Ghost A: sniff, hahaha, told you two these were special!
Ghost B: hoho, I'm so glad to see this, after all this time, if i still had it, my heart would've skipped a beat
Ghost C: nyheheh, who's dorm leader now? Laughing in confusion from the switch, and gazing at the group around him, Zoro wiggled his cane free and raised it to the air, waving it saying,
"Sup, it's me!" Zoro grunted, a ciruois chirp left the thin Ghost's mouth as he descended to the gold eyed boy. Inspecting and floating all around him from every angle. "Uhhh, everything alright here?" Zoro didnt know what to think honestly, this was the weirdest introduction of his life, but dang was it fun so far.
Ghost C: hmmm, so far, so far, tell me new Dorm leader! How, tall are you?
The ghost's nasally voice became straight and serious, pausing snd adding weight to every word as ge got closer to the brown boy. His sunken eyes staring deep into Zoro's blinking ones.
"Uhhh, 6'2"??" He shrugged
Ghost C: you are, perfect! Nyeheheh, you remind me of my past self!
Ghost B: hohoho, but you were never dorm leader
Ghost C: Shush, I was in the running, I'm certain next year i would have been in charge! No doubt about it!
     Resting his white fists proudly on his...waist, Ghost C puffed out his chest as through a smirk, Zoro said,
 "heh, it's nice to meet y'all too, but can ya guys back up? I think Regi's 'bout to feint" and true to his guess, the dread having lion was a pale brown and was leaning-or rather falling on Dorothy, who was currently trying(and failing) to punch a ghost and keep the Lion upright at the same time.
     But thankfully the three ghosts let up and finally the group eased back down, some sitting on the ground and in Theo's case, bouncing on his feet to meet the ghosts as quick as possible, talking among st the Ghosts as Grim once lire tried to gain freedom, but once more met his dreaded enemy, head pats. Though really after a quick meet and greet, Yuu gave them all a tour of the dorm. Or rather what needs to be fixed. As winding through the halls, multiple cobwebs, fallen parts, and scattered clothes, dust and more stretched as far as the eye could see. Scratching the back of his head, Zoro talked as they went down the crotchety steps.
"All that character huh, ain't the headmaster help at all?" He asked, only to get a dry laugh from Yuu,
"If by help you mean nothing, yeah, he helps a whole lot." They droned, drooping down. Zoro patted the prefect on the back as Grim gnarled angrily
"Nrggh, that cheapskate still owes me my tuna to this day!" raising an eyebrow Zoro looked to Yuu who only shook their head,
"Long story, I'll tell it later"
"Got ya, alrighty" coming to a pause in the living room, Zoro twirled his cane while talking in pace "since we got a lotta stuff to clean, and sadly fix, let's at least get everyone somewhere to sleep. Unless y'all wanna share a couch that is" he smirked, looking at the group, he saw a shakey hand raise up, pointing the handle of his cane at Regis, he said "Oh what's up Regi? And just so ya know, you can just go out with it man, ain't gotta raise your hand" leaning on the cane, he listened to the stuttering lion.
"i-im fine sleeping on the couch." He nodded "w-what if there's a poisonous spider in my room or-or" cutting him off Dorothy said
"can it, there ain't gon' be nothin' there ya varment!" He huffed
"u-um right away-you'll never hear a peep out of me again, i-im ready to clean Zoroa- I mean dorm leader sir!" He saluted
"Good! Cause Dorothy's on cleaning duty first!" He smiled cheekily, to which the boy in question looked at him like what in the heck did you just say?!
"tsk, the heck I am?! Who the heck you think you are?!"
"I'm a guy who don't wanna share a couch with 5 people, but here's a deal, how ' bout I help ya clean, that'll make you stop complaining?"
"Feh, fine fine ya skunk lookin' silo" he grumbled to a still smirking Zoro who have him a thumbs up, saying
"Wonderful, well no time like the present, come on~ let's go~" he sang, guiding Dorothy upstairs, "For now, I leave down stairs to Yuu, good luck everyone!" He called.
Minutes later~
With cleaning in full swing, from both the living and dead members of the dorm, soon enough there was knock at the door. Dust cresting their brow, and sweat soaking their robes, Yuu with a now finally freed Grim on their shoulder, walked over to see who it was. Turning the faded knob, there now stood Crowley walking in the foyer.
"Ahh, greetings prefect, I hope the students have adjusted well to...their character filled home"
"Yeah, at the moment we're cleaning out rooms for everyone." a light chuckle left Crowley, while his glowing eyes peered at the dorm at work. Regis was shakingly dusting spider webs, Theodore spawned all sorts of little creatures, helping him clean the rooms in the back, and up stairs the low echoes of Zoroaster and Dorothy bounced back and forth as they moved bits and pieces of debris with Solon in tow.
"My my, this does bring a tear to my eyes, I never thought I'd ever see this dorm return. What a fortunate day indeed Heheh, ah but prefect, I must say, you are so gracious for offering your aid to this dorm~"
"Hm? What do you mean? We live here too, it's the least we could do" but turning to the old crow, they saw his face going serious.
"Ah, that is why i am here, I'm terribly sorry Prefect, but you and Grim cannot stay. "
"Wait what?!" They asked incredulously
"Hey! What the heck are you talking about!" Yelled grim, but as the prefect looked at Crowley's masked face, their stomach turnt and spiked like it fell down a brakeless elevator.
"With this dorm once more being active, I am sorry but i cannot allow you to stay here. Oh, but do not worry, for I am gracious I've found a lovely spot in the gardens for you both" cooed Crowley, soon enough a pair of feet thumped against the creaking floor as Zoroaster, covered in soot and dust walked over to the foyer as well.
"Oh, Heya headmaster, what's happenin?" He asked, as his gold eyes trailed over Grim and Yuu, studying their faces as Crowley repeated what he just said. Zoroaster's eyes narrowed as his gloves fingers dug into the palm of his hand. Through gritted teeth, then wizard said "That's bull shit!" In a roar, causing everyone else to pause, trying to see what the commotion was about.
"Now mr.Ozma, while your concern is admirable, I cannot have the prefect stay in an active dorm, they're not apart of any dorm after all" and as this discussion went on, so too did the rest of the dorm begin to crowd, and right after hearing a quick explanation of what's happening, a mix of reactions sparked. First Theodore snatched Grim and held him close to his chest. Saying,
"If you throw out Grim you'll have to pry him from my cold green hands!" And as for Dorothy, he was in the opposite camp, he did care two ways about it, he went back off to clean. Fiyero was a little better, but not by much, as the scarecrow merely said,
"Awww, that's a shame" he groaned, though even during that, it was like he could feel for a brief moment, the headmaster eyes following him closely, but when he went to look, they were elsewhere. Geez, those crows got me paranoid he thought, and for Solon, he stepped close with his clunking parts and said,
"Well headmaster, there has to be Some way they can stay after all." But to this the tin man received a solemn shake of the head from Crowley. And as for what Regis felt about this, whatever he wanted to say was choked up by his fear. But just as Crowley was about to make his leave, about to lead grim and Yuu away, Zoroaster grew a devilish smile and in a song song voice said,
"Oh~ just like that headmaster? It's a shame really, I mean, just think of the headlines to come." Ahem clearing his throat, Zoroaster mockingly spoke like a news anchor, straight, and falsely shocked at the headline "NRC headmaster cannot find a place for his staff to sleep, such a tragedy~" he wailed, but walking up to the old crow, Zoro smirked and shrugged his shoulders, as his voice got long and sly,
"though ya knooow, there seems to be plenty of room here, wouldn't be a problem at all to have em stay. Especially since most of us ain't got a problem with it. But sadly, it's such a tragedy you have to throw them out, but eh, i'm sure the news would love to have a field day with this~" resting a hand on his chin, Crowley began to envision the paparazzi, all the questions and the loss of revenue, frantically shaking his head, returned back to the dorm leader and gave a coy smile.
"Oh hohoho, Mr.Ozma there's no need to take this to the news I assure you. What is your proposition, I swear I shall hear it out, for I am gracious" at that last word, Zoroaster's eye twitched as in his mind he thought, I'm gonna start counting everytime he says that. But back to reality he held up two fingers,
"Its a simple bet, nothin' to worry about. Here's what I got, if I win, ya have to allow Yuu and Grim to be part of the dorm no questions asked, they're full members." For a moment, Zoro paused as he thought of an idea, bringing back his smirk once more "Oh, and one more thing, ya gotta refer to me by my full name for a month, middle ones included." And when he finished, a voice from the back yelled,
"Make him give me ten cans of tuna too!" Chimed grim
"Heheh, that too" Zoro chuckled, but now was time for Crowley to interject,
"And what if I win?"
"Simple really, all of us don't let this bad press out, in fact we'll do the opposite, we'll give you glowing reviews and recommendations, and you can still go with your original plan. So how 'bout it teach, whether or not you win or lose, it's a win-win. "
"Hmmm, hmmm, very well, let us begin the bet, though what will we be playing Ozma?" And with a chuckle from his throat, the dorm leader sifted through a pile of belongings and pulled out a deck of multi-colored cards.
"Uno, a cards game"
"I see, let us begin!" Yelled the crow, as for minutes the game went on, plus 2s, skips, reversals, and yes, the dreaded plus 4 rained everywhere. But as the two reached their last hand of cards, Crowley held one, and Zoroaster held 4, but when yuu and Grimm saw behind the dorm leader, they honestly felt a bit sorry for the headmaster. As in the boy's hand was a row of hell and destruction, 4 plus 4s in a row!
"Heheheh, it was a pleasure doing this deal with ya teach, but I gotta say one thing, Uno!" Thump right atop the webbed coffee table Zoro slammed down his hand, as you saw the color drain from the headmaster's face. As a cry of elation from Theodore filled the room as he bear hugged grim, followed by a pair of more and more subdued cheers, but it was on this day, the new ramshackle dorm was truly formed, over a game of Uno.
A Miraculous Tale of Rubybug and Cat Blake: Chapter 1
First / Next
Once Upon a Time, Part 1: Along Came a Ladybug!
Once upon a time, the Earth was a barren wasteland. Creatures known as the Grimm dominated, leaving mankind at the brink of destruction at any given moment. All hope seemed lost until a band of humans gathered together to call upon the gods for aid. Their prayers were answered, as the Kwamis descended from the heavens above to aid humans in their time of need.
Because they could not exist in the physical world without a tether, jewels were forged to tie the Kwamis to the humans, bestowing extraordinary powers on whoever wielded them. These were... the Miraculous. The humans overcame the Grimm, and throughout history, heroes have used these magic items for the good of mankind.
Of all the Miraculous, two of them were more powerful than the others: the earrings of the Ladybug, which provide the unlimited power of luck and creation, and the ring of the Black Cat, which grants the power of misfortune and destruction. According to legend, whoever controls both these jewels at the same time will be able to achieve absolute power that will grant forth whatever their hearts desire.
"I see."
An older woman played around with the brooch in her hand, the fingers on her other hand tapping on her desk. Her lips curved into a cruel smile, one that promised pain towards those who crossed her.
"Then I want that absolute power, Nooroo." She said. "I must have the Miraculous."
"Oh, I can't believe my baby sister is going to Beacon with me! This is the best day ever!"
A tall girl crushed her sibling in a tight bear hug. The elder had blond hair, lilac eyes, a brown jacket, a yellow tank shity underneath and short pants; the younger had grey eyes, black hair with tips were colored red, a white shirt combined with a red hoodie. The bus had taken them far from their home in Patch into Vale, the big city. They were on their way to Beacon University, a college known for producing some of the best in the world. Only the most determined would survive even a year in this school.
"Please… stooooop." Ruby said while gasping for air. "You're embarrassing me in front of everyone!"
Yang chuckled, letting go of her sister. "But I'm so proud of you!
"Really sis," Ruby said low, "it was nothing."
"What do you mean? It was incredible!" Yang said bewildered. "Everyone at Beacon is going to think you're the bee's knees."
"I don't want to be the 'bee's knees' okay?" Ruby said. "I don't want to be any kind of knees! I just want to be a normal girl with normal knees. I wanna get through this year without too much trouble."
Yang looked at her a touch sad. "I know things were rough at Signal. Mom, Dad and I were honestly grateful that you got the opportunity because of how miserable you were. But things will be different here! Aren't you excited?
"Of course I'm excited... I just... " Ruby sighed. "I got moved ahead two years. I went from the beginning of high school to college. I don't want people to think I'm special or anything."
"But you are special, Ruby." Yang pulled her sister into a one-armed hug, gently squeezing her. "Trust me, by the end of the year you're gonna be so happy."
Unknown to the sisters, a blond boy trembled with his hands on his stomach. He hunched over on Yang's foot and vomited all over her.
"What the HELL?!"
"Oh, Yang, gross! You have puke on your shoe!"
"Gross, gross, gross, gross, gross, gross, gross, gross!"
"Get-Get away! Get away from me! Get away from me! Get away from me! Get away from me!"
_______________________________________________________________________
A while later, the two got off the bus to stare at their future.
Beacon University was a castle in the middle of the city. The first thing one notices is the tower in the middle of the structure, with smaller building surrounding it on all sides, a long entrance to the University welcoming all.
The sisters carried their luggage with them as they looked at the sight of their future with awe.
"Wooow…"
"The pictures have nothing on this, Rubes!" Yang said. "Rubes?"
"Ohmygosh, sis! Everybody looks so pretty!" Ruby said while staring at students walking pass. "I see people frills and… oh a goth too!"
Ruby tried to run off but Yang pulled her by the hood. "Ow! Ooww!"
"Easy there, little sister." Yang said. "We only just got here and you're gushing about everyone's clothes!"
"Sorry it's just… fashion is an extension of ourselves!" Ruby said gushing. "Clothes represent us you know! Oh, they're so cool!"
Yang rolled her eyes, but completely understood. Ever since she was a kid Ruby had been passionate about her dreams.
"Well, I'm gonna do some explorin'! 'Kay, see ya, bye!"
She ran off, leaving Ruby by herself flailing.
"Wait, where are you going?!" Ruby yelled out "Are we supposed to go to our dorms? Where are our dorms? Do we have dorms?"
Ruby looked around the area. All she could see were students passing by, not even noticing her. She sighed.
"I don't know what I'm doing…"
So she decided to just move on ahead. If Ruby remembered correctly there was supposed to be a meeting at the auditorium later so maybe she should just find a way there? Yeah that seemed right. Makes sense. All she has to do is just keep walking and walking, maybe do a skip-
Ruby bumped into a luggage cart, knocking it down and sending the cases to the floor. Someone is standing over her.
"What do you THINK you're doing?!"
Ruby looked up. She saw a young girl, white hair and blue eyes, coldly staring at her. Ruby got up on her hands. "Uh, sorry!"
"Sorry?! Do you have any idea of the damage you could have caused?"
"I'm so sorry really I was just…" Ruby looked at the cases. "Huh? Those are-"
"Give me that!" The girl snatched the cases from Ruby. "These are Schnee brand high quality dresses! Very expensive material if I say so myself."
"Wait," Ruby pointed at the girl. "Then you must be-!"
"Does your brain-dead skull at last recognize me?" The girl placed a hand to herself, giving a proud smirk. "Everyone far and wide knows the name of Weiss Schnee! You've probably seen me across billboards, magazines and live contests, winner of several Model of the Year awards! I have studied and trained my whole life to enter this university but you… you seem a bit too young to be here."
Ruby scratched the back of her head. "Well, I-I..."
"This isn't your ordinary school." Weiss crossed her arms while scowling. "It's not just sunshines and rainbows in a and of make believe! We're here to climb to the top, so... watch where you're going!"
"Hey, I said I was sorry, princess!" Ruby had had just about enough of her. She gripped her luggage to storm off.
"It's heiress, actually."
Upon hearing that, Ruby and Weiss looked to the side. Another girl, tanned skin and the most golden eyes Ruby had ever seen, stood over the two. She had a bow on her head, a book in hand and her bag in the other. She looked profoundly annoyed.
"Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Fashion Company, one of the largest fashion brands in the world."
Weiss smiled smugly. "Finally! Some recognition!"
"The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners."
Ruby chuckled at the sight of Weiss immediately dropping her smug demeanor and getting angry. "Wha- How dare- The nerve of... Ugh!"
She placed the last case into the luggage cart before walking off in a huff.
"I promise I'll make this up to you!" Ruby turned around. "I guess I'm not the only one having a rough first day... So, what's..."
The stranger wasn't there. Ruby moved to see she had been walking off as well.
Ruby sighed. "Welcome to Beacon…"
She felt a hand on her shoulder. Ruby turned to see the blond guy from the bus giving her a sympathetic look.
"I'm having a pretty bad day too." He raised a hand up. "How about we go to the auditorium together? 'Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet.' like my mom says."
'Oh shoot, he wants to be friends!' Ruby thought. 'Okay you're not screwing this up Ruby, don't screw this up don't screw this up YOU GOT THIS!'
"Ruby." She took his hand and shook it. "You're the vomit boy from the bus!"
_______________________________________________________________________
"All I'm saying is that motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on!"
Ruby and her new friend walked down the indoors of Beacon. They passed through a window that gave them a view of the garden currently being taken care of by helpers.
"Look, I'm sorry!" Ruby said. "Vomit Boy was the first thing that came to mind."
"How about we don't do that then?" Vomit boy said. "The name's Jaune Arc! Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, ladies love it!"
Ruby gave him a skeptical look. "Do they?"
"They will!" He looked to the sides nervously. "Well, I-I hope they will. My mom always says that... Never mind. Are you majoring in anything?"
The shorter girl giggled. "I am! I plan on becoming a fashion designer. Lemme show you!"
She placed her bag down on the floor. Opening it up, she pulled out a notebook. It read on the spine Volume 1. Ruby had labeled it that after realizing one notebook wouldn't be enough for her creative mind. She's had several notebooks over the years, seven of which she brought with her.
"I've had all these designs and ideas for a long time!" Ruby said. "Here here take a look!"
Jaune took the notebook and started flipping through it. He didn't expect much out of the notebook except some neat doodles. The more he saw, the more his eyes widened.
"My God, these are so complex! It's incredible!" Jaune said, amazed. "You made all these yourself?"
"Yup, sure did!" Ruby smiled. "Been practicing since I was little. I love fashion, it's like a reflection of who we are and what we decide to put out into the world. I wanna bring out the best in everyone. Sorry, that sounds silly right?"
Jaune laughed. "You kidding? That's pretty cool. It's pretty amazing you had this all figured out as a kid. I still haven't figured out what I want. I don't even have a major yet."
"Well Jaune," Ruby placed a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sure you'll find your way. My mom says that college is a realm of possibilities and we're starting so you'll have all the time in the world to figure it out."
Something sparked in Jaune's eye that Ruby didn't understand. "Thanks Ruby, I really needed that."
"Hmhm." Ruby looked around and stopped. "Hey, where are we going?"
"Oh, I don't know! I was following you." Jaune's eyes widen in fear. "Y-You think there might be a directory? Maybe a food court? Some kind of recognizable landmark? Is, uh... Is that a 'no'?"
Ruby clutched her head in despair. "OH NO WE'RE GONNA BE LAAATTEEEEEE!"
She grabbed Jaune's arm and they took off as fast as they could.
"Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease PLEASE be close!"
"H-hey I almost dropped my-"
The two saw Yang hanging right outside the door.
"Ruby! Over here!" Yang waved at the two. "Wait why are you hanging out with Vomit Boy?"
"Oh Yang thank God!" Ruby breathed in and out, stopping to catch her breath. "So this is Jaune, he's a friend- I think we're friends- are we friends Jaune? Anyway we're not too late are we?"
"Nah you made it a bit early actually." Yang said. "I guess you can come if you want, eh, Jaune is it?"
If Ruby looked no worse for wear, Jaune was clearly exhausted. He barely let out breaths before he took notice of Yang.
"Yup, that's my name! Jaune Arc," Jaune said. "Rolls off the tongue, ladies love it!"
Yang rolled her eyes. "I'm sure they do. Let's sit down."
The three went up a few steps and took seats. Jaune sat next to Yang, who sat next to Ruby. The trio noticed that the auditorium was large, potentially fitting over hundreds of students in one place. In the center stood a stage. The teachers sat next to each other while in front of them was the podium. The headmaster was supposed to make a speech, but she hasn't made an appearance yet.
"How's your first day going, little sister?" Yang asked.
"You mean since you ditched me and I made a joke out of myself?"
"Yikes! Meltdown already?"
"No, it's just that earlier after you left I started walking but then I tripped over a crabby girl's luggage, only this crabby girl was actually WEISS SCHNEE the Model of the Year winner and then she yelled at me, and I felt really, really bad, but when I said sorry she just kept yelling at me and I just wanted her to stop yelling at me so I was gonna say something but then this really cool and pretty girl shows up an-!
"You!"
Ruby jumped in fear, almost fleeing into her sister's arms. "Oh no it's her!"
Weiss scowled at the two of them. "You're lucky I decided not to have my team of lawyers come down on your throat and sue your sorry butt into oblivion!"
Yang whistled. "Wow she really is crabby."
"Look Weiss, it was an accident I swear!” Ruby moved away from her sister and clasped her hands together. "I promise I won't get in your way okay?"
Weiss said nothing. "As long as you stop talking to me I don't care."
"Look, uh, it sounds like you two just got off on the wrong foot." Yang said. "Why don't you start over and try to be friends, okay?
"Yeah! Great idea, sis!" Ruby said. She turned to Weiss. "Hello, Weiss! I'm Ruby! Wanna hang out? We can go shopping for school supplies!
Weiss turned to her, enthusiastic. "Yeah! And we can paint our nails and try on clothes and talk about cute boys, like tall, blond, and scraggly over there!"
"I'm cute?" Jaune asked, hopeful.
"Wow, really? I mean I don't talk much about boys but-"
"No." Weiss said. She turned back to the stage. "The headmistress is here, so quiet yourself."
All of the students' attention are drawn to the stage. A blond woman wearing a white dress that with violet shadings here and there walked up to the podium. She adjusted the microphone.
"Testing testing… ahem, hello everyone. I am Headmistress Salem, pleasure to meet you all. Now I'm sure you're all eager to get to your dorms and unpack so I'll try to keep this brief. Pinky promise!"
Some of the students laughed which made Salem chuckle.
"Haha, thanks for that. Now, you have all traveled far today. You came in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you are done you plan to dedicate your life to whatever you decide to pursuit. Each of you possess knowledge and passion that have gotten you this far, and the potential to do more. But those are only the first steps. Make no mistake, Beacon will not go easy on any of you. The toughest challenges lie ahead. You may start out rough, stumble around in the middle stretch, but I have the highest confidence that by the end you will come out of this university having improved tremendously and the ability to go beyond expectations. Everyone… Welcome!"
Salem waved everyone off.
"Alright now take the cookies from the tray and uh… eat! Phew, that was easy."
The students dispersed. Ruby took note of one teacher- Glynda Goodwitch she recognized- going up to Salem and arguing with her on something, but Salem continued smiling at her.
"She seems nice." Yang said. "Reminds me of a kindergarten teacher."
"That's how she is." Ruby responded. "She's a nice person, Yang."
Yang corked an eyebrow. "Oh you know her?"
"Yeah, she was the one who invited me to Beacon in the first place."
Ruby and Yang got their ID Cards from a nearby table and parted off their dorms.
Off to the side, Jaune was trying to talk to Weiss.
"I'm a natural blond, you know!" Jaune wiggled his eyebrows. "I'm totally cute enough!"
Weiss placed a hand to her face in exasperation. "Please just go away."
With that she stormed off, never to be seen again. Jaune raised a hand towards her.
"Hey, wait!" Jaune yelled out. However, he knew a lost cause when he saw it. He sighed. "Ah, great. And Ruby's gone too. Where am I supposed to find another nice, quirky girl to talk to?!"
He walked off, unaware of a red haired woman staring at him with hands on her hips. Her green eyes narrow in mischievous intent.
_______________________________________________________________________
Ruby let out a sigh as she stood in front of her dorm.
'The first day of the rest of my life.' Ruby thought. 'Okay here we go…'
She swiped the ID card through the handle, and opened the door.
It was a hallway that connected to two rooms. Ruby was thankful that at least she'd have her own room to hang around in. She wasn't sure if she could deal with three roommates that'd snore or bring people over or play loud music or-
"Well let's not get ahead of ourselves here." Ruby started unpacking her bag. "I'll just set everything up and get supplies afterwards. Maybe even get some cookies! Yummy."
As she placed her notebooks on the table, Ruby thought back to when she was first accepted into Beacon.
_______________________________________________________________________
"You wanted to see me ma'am?"
Ruby closed the door behind her, sitting down to face the one who called her.
"Ruby Rose. Age 16. Class President." Salem said, flipping through the papers. "You've been involved in several school projects designing banners, arranging class activities, setting up parties, etc. By all accounts, you are a remarkable girl."
"Um… thank you." Ruby said, blushing at the kind words.
"At ease, Ruby, you are not being judged here." Salem waved her off. "Instead, I am extending you an… opportunity."
Ruby blinked. "What do you mean?"
Salem placed the papers on the desk, and stared Ruby directly in the eyes.
"Tell me, Ruby… what is it that you want out of life?"
The question threw Ruby off. She questioned whether this was some sort of test or not. If she said something wrong would she be thrown out of a window? Wait no that's murder. Thrown out of Signal? Yeah that made more sense.
"I… I want to become a fashion designer." Ruby said finally. "I want to make dresses and bring smiles to people."
This seemed to please Salem. She smiled at the girl.
"Very well. My name is Salem. I'd like to extend to you an invitation to Beacon University. I hope you survive the experience!"
_______________________________________________________________________
"She gave me a chance… to start over." Ruby said. "I won't let her down."
She proudly surveyed her room. Posters of rock bands and fashion models, neatly stacked books, a prepared bed and a fantastic work bench for her creativity to flow. Neat and tidy aren't how she usually operates, but when you're trying to come up with ideas for fashion designs it's best to keep things simple in case one day she gets an idea and just has to jot it down.
"Looks like everything's out! Nothing could possibly ruin this."
The door opened, and Ruby felt a chill down her spine.
She turned around to find Weiss Schnee at the doorstep, carrying the stacks of luggage she had knocked over before. The two regarded each other, neither aware of how long they stood there, before Weiss grabbed the door handle.
"No. I am not going to room with you." Weiss simply stated. "I will correct this mistake with the headmaster."
With that she slammed the door shut.
"Figures," Ruby said, placing the hood from her jacket over her head. "Should have kept my mouth shut."
_______________________________________________________________________
The store where they kept the school supplies was luckily only a few blocks away.
Having spent her whole life in Patch, Ruby could only stare in awe of the city she was in. Lots of places to be, stores to shop and a lot of people up and excited. The falling sun contrasted with the lights slowly popping up everywhere. If nothing else, Ruby knew she was gonna like it here.
Opening the door to the shop, Ruby waved hi at the person in the cash register, an old man who smiled and waved back at her. Luckily there weren't too many people in the store, otherwise Ruby would have had to claw and fight her way around.
"Okay the things I need should be…"
Ruby found them on Aisle 3.
"A ruler for composition, I already have pens and pencils to write notes down but could use more, several notebooks for the end of the year, a pen drive haha of course I need one of those what if there's a project to do!"
At this moment, Ruby forgot that she had a tendency to bite off more than she could chew. In that instance, she forgot that her small noodle arms are not enough to hold a huge stack all together.
"Whoaaaah!" Ruby steadied herself carefully. "Okay okay calm down it's gonna be fine. You can take this to the register and no one's gonna get hurt. Except me. Hopefully not me. I don't wanna pay for breaking anything."
As she almost stumbled over to the register, Ruby saw a tall ginger man in front of the old man at the register. The old man smiled.
"Why hey there sonny what can I do for you?" The old man said to the customer in front of him.
"Well you see, um," the ginger man held a gun in his hand. "I kind of need help with getting all of the money inside this bag. if it's not something that bothers you that is."
"Ah… ah, please don't hurt anyone." The old man sweated. He opened up the "Here, take it! Please leave!"
"Pleasure doing business with you good sir." The ginger man smirked at him, opening up his own bag and pushing the money inside of it.
Ruby stared at all of that. She wanted to move to stop him but… he had a gun. He could shoot her or shoot the old man and then nothing could get done. It was too dangerous to try anything.
The ginger man fastened the tie on his bag before opening the door. For a second, he glanced at Ruby with a frightful glare.
"You didn't see anything kid. Call the cops and I'll find out who you are and kill you."
With those words, he slammed the door shut.
"Thank God he left," the old man said. "Everything seems to be getting worse and nobody's stopping it."
Ruby didn't say anything.
After spending money on her materials, she left the store and turned left.
The reality of the situation startled her. Not even her first day at Beacon and Ruby was at the scene of a crime? She could have died! This truly was the worst day of her life.
Still, Ruby couldn't help but beat herself up over letting that guy go. Even if logically she knew that jumping the guy could have resulted in someone getting shot, Ruby wished that there was something she could have done. It made her so upset.
'If only I had some kind of weapon… like a gun... or a scythe... hmmm a scythe gun… yeah, that would be so cool.'
Either a gun scythe or some clever plan to take that guy out. As it is, there was nothing she could have done. And that made her mad.
Ruby continued walking, before she spotted something from the corner of her eye.
'That old lady is… waitwaitwait WAIT!'
She immediately dropped her bags, rushing forward. An older woman was about to cross the street with a speeding car about to run her over. so her body moved without thinking. Ruby grabbed the older woman by the arms and pulled her away from her deadly fate as the car continued moving.
"Watch where you're going you hag!" yelled out the driver before he sped away from the scene.
"You could have stopped at any time! Jerk!" Ruby blew a raspberry, before turning to the old woman she had just saved.
"Such a rude man that one." said the elder, a short woman with tan skinned and sunglasses, hair tied in buns. "Not like you dearie. Thanks so much for helping me not be roadkill today."
Ruby laughed, "Ha ha, that's just what anyone would do! Just make sure to look both directions next time."
"I wish I could but," The old lady pulled her sunglasses away, revealing peculiar grey eyes. "I don't see the point, you know?"
"Oh… oh you're blind! Wait ohmygosh I'm so sorry I don't mean to be so insensitive!" Ruby flailed her arms around before a cane stabbed at her stomach.
"Now don't give me that. My name is Maria Calavera." The old woman smiled. "I must repay you for saving my life!"
"No no you don't have to it was nothing rea-" Ruby could not say more because she felt something reach her hands.
"This is a box I found the other day. An antique" Maria said. "I want you to keep it with you okay?"
Ruby, not wanting to embarrass herself any further, nodded fiercely. "Yes, yes! I'll cherish it forever and won't let it out of my sight!"
Maria laughed. "That's good! You're a very sweet girl. You deserve the world, I tells ya! Have a lovely evening!"
"Thanks you too!"
With that, Ruby placed the box inside of her bag and ran off.
_______________________________________________________________________
Weiss was thankfully not in the room by the time she arrived.
Based on the fact that her luggage remained in the hall unpacked, Ruby figured that she was still arguing with Salem over her room arrangements. She might show up at any time.
Ruby shrugged her shoulders, deciding she'll just have to get used to her. No way she was gonna throw her chance away because of a crabby girl she only knew for a few minutes.
"Time to see what's inside this box." Ruby said to no one in particular.
She moved the bags on top of the bed, while gazing at the box. The box itself was a peculiar thing. It was utterly black, but neatly crafted and cared for. The top of the box had a symbol that Ruby didn't recognize. It looked Chinese but she didn't want to make any racist assumptions there.
With no other recourse, she opened the box.
Inside were a pair of shiny red and black earrings. The while thing was red but covered in black spots that made it resembles those of a ladybug.
"They're so pretty!" Ruby grinned, wide eyed. "I better put these on!"
And so she did, placing them carefully on her ears.
"I can't wait to show these off to Yang! She's totally gonna freak when I walk around in these babies."
"I'm sure she will! You're so pretty!"
Ruby blinked. She wasn't sure her brain caught up with her ears.
Slowly, she turned around. A bright, glowing red creature with black spots floated next to her. The creature smiled at her.
"Hi!"
Ruby screamed.
"Oh my god what the heck are you please don't hurt me please don't hurt me what the fuck what the-"
"Ruby please calm down! I'm a friend!"
Ruby shook her head. "Nuh uh, I must be crazy. Yes, maybe that robber shot me and I'm dead!"
The creature raised an eyebrow. "If you were dead wouldn't you want to be somewhere that isn't school?"
This made the younger girl stop. She clutched her head as she sat on the floor. "Oh God you're right."
"Okaaaaay so maybe I handled this all wrong."
"NOOOOO really?" Ruby almost yelled, but she breathed in and out. "Sorry… sorry it's just um… who are you- WHAT are you?"
"Oh that I can answer!" The little creature did a dance, making breezy movements in the air. "I am Tikki, the Kwami of Creation and Good Luck! You received the Ladybug Miraculous, a pair of earrings worn across generations of powerful and extraordinary heroes! Since my master gave you the earrings, that must mean that you're meant to be a new hero!"
Ruby let out a tiny laugh. "Me? A hero? I mean, not that I don't like the idea but I'm not at all what you're looking for. You're looking for a brave and inspiring person and I'm… I'm just me. No one special."
"But you are special!" Tikki floated in front of Ruby's face, still smiling. "You dropped everything and rushed just in time to save my master's life. That proves that somewhere inside of you is a heart of a hero."
"Anyone could have done that," Ruby smiled sadly, "If I was brave I would have stopped that robber at the store."
"I don't think you could have done much in that situation Ruby," Tikki said. "You exercised caution and didn't act rashly in a way that got people hurt. You are very smart."
The two sat in silence for a bit. Tikki floated, unsure of what was going on Ruby's head as she kept changing expressions.
"Okay then… assuming this isn't a dream or something," Ruby finally said. "What can you do?"
"Oh!" Tikki smiled again. "There are so many things I can do, given I'm a Kwami of Creation. However, I only manage to exist in this plane of existence because my physical body is tied to the earrings you're using right now. If you say a certain phrase, I merge with you and grant you some of my abilities."
"So I become a magical girl?"
"Yes yes!"
"Wow… wait, you said you were a Kwami? What is that?"
"Kwamis… well, we're basically beings of thoughts and expressions. I am the Kwami of Creation, so I have the ability to create! There's others like me out there, with their own powers and things they represent. For example, my counterpart is Plagg, the Kwami of Destruction. Don't hang around him, he's a huge troublemaker!"
"I can imagine…" Ruby said. "Why do you need to be tied to an object?"
"Because we're beings of thought, we exist outside of the boundaries of linear time and space. We need to be tied to specific objects so we can appear in your reality."
"Wow, you guys must be so old!"
Tikki's eyes bulged in fear.
"Heh heh, yeah…" Tikki nervously chuckled. "uh, do you have any other questions?"
"Your master… she's the old lady from before? Maria right?"
"That's right! She's one of the many Guardians of the Miraculouses!"
"Right…" Ruby got up from the floor. "So I have to find her to return you."
"What?! But Ruby-"
"You're very nice and all Tikki but I just started University.' Ruby said. "I don't want to get into any trouble and there are so many options out here than just me. I'm gonna find Maria and return you to her!"
"Wait! How about this? Use me once. I'll tell you the words, you turn into the ladybug champion and try it out. If you decide it's not cut out for you, then you can return me. Is that okay?"
"I don't know…"
"Please Ruby. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you're a good person who'd make a great hero. Just trust me."
Ruby placed fingers on her chin.
"Hmmm… okay. We'll give it a try." Ruby pointed at Tikki. "But if i don't like it then I'm returning you, no questions asked!"
"It's a done deal Ruby!"
Tikki descended to Ruby's eye level. The two of them shook hands, a partnership established. Just then the door opened.
"Oh no Weiss! It's not what you think you're totally fantasizing!"
"Impossible," Weiss said, "my fantasy would have you out of this dorm and outside of my life."
"Wait you don't see-"
Ruby looked up and found that Tikki had disappeared. She felt a pressure coming from her earrings, which answered where she went.
"Oh… eh, heheh!" Ruby chuckled forcibly. "So how did it go with the Headmaster? Are you gonna be moving out… hopefully…?
Weiss slammed the door shut.
"According to the Headmaster all the dorms are full and there will be no others open for months. Which means I'm going to be stuck with you."
"Oh… that's too bad-" Ruby course corrected. "i mean for you I imagine! Haha being stuck with silly old me!"
"Riiight…" Weiss rolled her eyes. "So I'm going to lay down some ground rules. No annoying babbling, don't talk to me, I am not your friend and will most never barge into my room for any reason. We will leave each other alone and that's it. Understood?"
"Hmhm, yeah yeah."
Ruby moved away from Weiss and onto the door.
"Where are you going?" Weiss asked.
"Well, uh," Ruby smiled. "I have some errands to run! Gotta see how Yang's doing and all haha! Bye!"
Quickly, she opened the door and shut it. Weiss only let out a sigh.
"That dolt is going to be the death of me."
_______________________________________________________________________
Alright, so she was going through with the crazy idea of being a magical girl.
Okay. Fine.
Before any of that though, Ruby decided to check up on Yang and see how she was doing. Yang texted the room number which apparently wasn't too far off from Ruby's. Down the hall, take a right.
Ruby went on her tip toes and gently knocked the door. It opened to reveal Yang, who had already taken a shower and switched to her pajamas.
"Ruby! Come in, I gotta show you my roommate's!"
She grabbed Ruby by the arm and dragged her over.
"Yaaaaaang!" Ruby whined. "Let go!"
Yang laughed. "Sorry it's just exciting to be here isn't it?"
"I guess," Ruby broke away from Yang's hold. "It's a bit weird not knowing anyone."
"What about Jaune? He's…" Yang scratched the back of her head, "Nice! There you go! Plus one friend! That's a hundred percent increase!"
"Hmmm… I guess that's true." If Ruby counted Tikki that would be two friends. If, since she wasn't sure how it was gonna go down. "Still, making an enemy out of Weiss Schnee is pretty bad. Worst part is, we're gonna be roommates Yang!"
"Really? Bummer that sucks," Yang said. "How about changing rooms?"
"She tried to but she said that the dorms are full and there won't be any available space for months. I have to live with her Yang!"
"Shit that's bad…" Yang said. "At least you're gonna get more than a few rods out of her! My roomie's been pretty quiet. I tried talking to her but she just wouldn't budge."
"That's probably because you infected your personality her." Ruby smirked. "I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
"Ah ah! Watch it Ruby, or I'll give you a noogie!"
Ruby laughed. For a few moments, she looked at Yang, and considered possibilities. Ruby Rose was just a normal girl, but Yang was incredible. Big, caring and strong. She's nothing less than extraordinary in Ruby's eyes. Maybe she should give the earrings to her? Yeah, Vale could have a Ladybug hero who fit the job description, instead of silly little Ruby. Maybe.
Yang showed her to the beds. Ruby could tell the one on the right was Yang's thanks to the messy state it was it was in, with a couple of beer cans already thrown over the floor and sheets spread. The left side had books stacked to the side and not much else to it. Sitting on the bed was someone Ruby remembered.
"Hey… you're that girl…"
Yang raised an eyebrow. "You know her?"
The girl looked up from the book. This girl had changed to her own pajamas, a black and violet yukata. Ruby could noticed one of her hands there was a black ring.
She regarded Ruby closely, her eyes narrowed. "You're that girl that knocked over Weiss' luggage?"
"Uh, yeah! My name's Ruby! But you can just call me... um…" She blushed a little and smiled. "Actually, you can just call me Ruby. I wanna say thank you for saving me earlier today, I don't know if I could stand being yelled at by Weiss all day."
"Oh." The girl nodded. "Don't thank me. It's always a pleasure to rattle a Schnee."
She went back to reading her book, ignoring the two in front of her. Ruby wasn't sure what to do, and Yang's eyes narrowed in annoyance.
Rolling her eyes, the elder sibling decided to step up. So she went in front of Ruby and cleared her throat."
"So... What's your name?"
The girl only gave an irritated sigh. "Blake."
"Well, Blake, I'm Yang, Ruby's older sister! I like your bow!"
"Thanks."
"It goes great with your... pajamas!"
"Right…"
"Nice night, don't you think?"
"Yes, it's lovely! Almost as lovely as this book!" Blake turned to the pages of her book. "That I will continue to read."
"Yeah, this girl's a lost cause." Yang turned to Ruby, clearly annoyed. "Anything you wanna tell me about your day or-"
Ruby stepped in front of her sister. This time she pointed at the book Blake was reading.
"What's it about?"
Blake looked up. "Huh?"
"Your book. What's it about?"
"Well…" Blake trailed off, seemingly confused by Ruby. No matter. it was just a question. "It's about a man with two souls, each fighting for control over his body."
"That's really cool." Ruby said. "I love books. Yang used to read to me every night before bed. Stories of princesses, monsters, and the heroes who saved the day… They've been a major inspiration in my life even after I decided I want to be a fashion designer."
Blake laughed a little. She was a touch amused by the girl in front of her. "And why is that? Hoping you'll live happily ever after?
"Well, I'm hoping we all will." Ruby said. "As a girl, I wanted to be just like those heroes in the books... Someone who fought for what was right, and protected people who couldn't protect themselves!"
"That's... very ambitious." For the first time Ruby could see Blake form a tiny smile. It disappeared quickly, turning into a frown. "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale."
"I know that… but it's not hopelessly bleak either." Ruby said, firmer than before. "We're all here for a reason, even if we don't know it yet. The world can be a better place so long as we're kind and help each other out. That's what really matters I think."
Immediately Ruby felt herself being dragged up into the air by a pair of strong arms.
"Oh, I am so proud of my baby sister!" Yang yells while hugging her precious Ruby.
"Cut it out!" Ruby playfully punched Yang. "Yaaaaannng you're embarrassing me in front of her!"
For the first time, the sisters heard a soft laughter. Blake had placed the book down, staring at the two while having a slight blush. She raised a hand up.
"Well, Ruby, Yang, it's a pleasure to have you."
Ruby reached out and shook it. "Pleasure to meet you too."
_______________________________________________________________________
The roof of the dorms. Everything changed in this one spot.
Carefully closing the door behind her, Ruby took a glance at Tikki, who did her cute little dance across ways from her. The girl sighed.
"How does it go again?" Ruby asked the tiny creature.
"What happens is," Tikki responds. "You say a command phrase, 'Spots on!", and I fuse with you to become the Ladybug Champion!"
"Right… how does the fusion work exactly?"
Tikki stopped her dance, waving her arms in front of Ruby.
"Well you're you. You're the one in charge. You just gain some new powers too. You have a yoyo that acts as your weapon. You can summon an object that will be instrumental in defeating an enemy. You can alter probability to suit your favor."
"Wait… a yoyo?" Ruby's eyes bulged in shock as she yelled. "Why a yoyo instead of something cool like… I dunno, a scythe gun? That would be way better."
"Well Ruby" Tikki explained. "The yoyo has many uses in the battlefield. With creativity and imagination, Ladybug wielders make do with what they have and use it to their best advantage. A scythe gun, in addition to a rule instated later that Miraculous users can't kill, is an impractical weapon for a crowded city where hundreds of people could be watching you and dangerous since a ricochet can kill someone if you're nor careful. No amount of luck will save every person if you use it."
Ruby backed away slightly. "Okay okay, that makes sense. Right…"
She brushed herself off, breathing in and out as she mentally prepared for the task ahead.
"Okay then… Tikki, SPOTS ON!"
Tikki disappeared from Ruby's line of sight, turning into a bright red beam of light that swirled around her body…
She felt was a nest of insects crawling up her feet.
Everywhere she felt cloth there were things that spread and made herself disappear. First came her shoes, to which her feet felt the ground upon her toes. They continued up her legs, her shirt, her hoodie jacket, the bugs eating away at the material objects that Ruby Rose tethered to the real world. She feared herself when the bugs came to her face.
"Stop it! Stop it…. wait…"
The moment of terror was replaced by a relief she had not felt in ages. She stared at her own hands, no longer seeing the slightest bit of human skin. Instead they were wrapped in a red ultra thin fabric that felt as though it was second skin. She no longer felt her clothes but instead a sense of self she had never known.
"I feel… miraculous…"
Ruby Rose was no more.
With a toothy grin she hadn't had since she came here, Ladybug threw her yoyo out to the sky. It found a pole to cling on, and she took off without haste.
_______________________________________________________________________
"Oh God… THIS IS SO MUCH FUN!"
Here she was! At last, Ruby Rose, lame first year college student, flew through the air on her yoyo as if she was Spider-Man! Or Spider-Girl. Or Spider-Woman. Or none of them since ladybugs are not arachnids. Probably.
Whatever, swinging through the air felt marvelous. She could feel the winds blow through her, the sounds of crowds below her, shouting and yelling things her ears did not pick up.
Insults? Praise? Who really cares! The night belonged to Ladybug, and no one else.
"WooooooooHOOOOOOOO!"
She couldn't smiling as she yelled. When she found a building too tall to swing through, Ladybug landed on the side of it and began a vertical runn. Ruby remembered the days at Signal where she participated in track. She always came up with high grades there, much to everyone else's annoyance. No one would expect the little rose to be running up buildings and later the rooftops.
Like Spider-Girl. But cooler.
From there Ladybug jumped from rooftop to rooftop. Luck truly was on her side. She was glad that at no point did she not fall down in a clumsy fit or an accident. She was in control all along.
The strangest thing for the girl wasn't the new found confidence in herself she didn't possess before. It wasn't the fact that she didn't tire from running, or the fact that she had greater dexterity using the yoyo to swing across. It was magic, they probably helped her out.
No, the truly strange thing was that none of these things contradicted who she was at the core. All these feelings, these emotions, they came from a place she kept locked away but now embraced with glee. Perhaps this is the true power of the Ladybug Miraculous. The ability to reveal the true self, and set it free.
She stopped right in front of a platform. Her eyes darted to the left.
"Please Roman, no… somebody help!"
"Shut it or I'll kill you, you little bastard. Call it my special brand of mercy."
Her enhanced hearing-no doubt more of the miraculous' power- picked those up right away. Ladybug recognized the voices and knew exactly what she had to do.
With that, she dropped right into an alleyway, forcing the pair to look at her.
"What the- some kind of cosplayer?!"
"Get away from here he's got a gun!"
The robber from before-Roman she recalled- was holding Jaune Arc hostage with his gun. Roman had Jaune's head caught in his shoulder as he pointed the gun at Ladybug.
Jaune, one of Ruby and Ladybug's new friends, could very well die if she made a single slip up.
She won't allow that possibility to happen.
"If you're going shoot at someone, shoot me." Ruby said, in a moment of anger. "If you've got the guts for it."
Roman darkly chuckled. "Guts? I've shot two-bit cosplayers before, the cops won't mind seeing another one in the morgue."
In an instant he lined up a shot to kill Ladybug. No remorse, no hint of emotion. Just the cold blooded murder of a teenage girl as the boy next to him begged and cried.
Or not.
He pressed the handle and nothing came out.
"What? Jammed?!" Roman yelled, shocked at the outcome. "Impossible I had this thing-"
The hand that carried his gun suddenly found itself wrapped in a tight rope. Roman suddenly found himself pulled from his position onto the air.
"You're not gonna get me you damn- UGH!"
Roman could not say more, as Ladybug clocked his face in. He fell to the ground, consciousness lost in the small struggle.
With the danger gone, Ladybug turned her eyesight from the robber to Jaune.
His face belied a string of conflicting emotions: bewilderment, shock, amazement at the event that just transpired.
"Th-thanks!" He let out finally. "I didn't think anyone was gonna save me."
She couldn't help but smirk at the hapless teen. Ladybug saluted him.
"My pleasure. You're lucky I happened to be in the area at the right time. Next time try to keep off the bad side of town."
"I think I'll, uh, do that." Jaune asked. He shook his head. "Sorry I mean no offense really, thank you for saving my life but- who are you and where the heck did you come from?!"
"Sorry. Can't exactly answer that. Girl's gotta keep he secrets after all." The hero struck a pose. "Just call me Ladybug. I'm here to help."
With that Ladybug jumped up into the air, leaving Jaune alone with a knocked out crook.
A safe distance away from the alley, Ruby had detransformed. Tikki appeared in front of her, watching the girl jump up and down so excitedly.
"OHMYGOSH Tikki that was so AWESOME!"
"You see Ruby?" Tikki said. "You really can do it!"
"I could! I could…" Ruby trailed off. She stared at the moon in the sky, smiling at the way it shined tonight on this city. On her.
"So what are you gonna do now?" Tikki asked. "Still want to return me to Maria?"
"Well… I'm still not sure if I'm cut out to be a hero…" Ruby said. "But I'm willing go stick with it for now. I'm sure I'll come across her sooner or later."
"Yes yes!" Tikki flew right into the girl's face, using her tiny arms to hug her. "You're gonna go far Ruby!"
"Not without you Tikki…" Ruby hugged her new friend. "Not without you."
_______________________________________________________________________
As breakfast time came, Ruby Rose skipped just a bit.
Since last night's adventure she had been feeling great. The exhilaration that came with being Ladybug placed her on cloud nine. Ruby almost didn't hear her name being called out in the crowd.
"Ruby!" Yang waved at her from the table she was sitting, Blake reading at book next to her. "Come sit with us and look at the TV!"
"Coming!" Ruby yelled. Ruby took her seat next to her and Blake. "What's happening?"
"Just watch Rubes, you're not gonna believe this," Yang said.
The younger sister rolled her eyes, only to be shocked at what the TV displayed. It was herself on the screen! Or rather, her Ladybug self. She wore a skintight red suit with black spots and a similar colored domino mask.
'That's such a BORING costume!' Ruby thought in her head. 'It doesn't even have a cape! No way I'm gonna keep wearing that thing. I'm redesigning it after I eat.'
"This is Lisa Lavender from VNN," The lady on the screen said. "Vale seems to have a costumed daredevil on the block. No one knows who she is and where she came from, except for an anonymous tip that identified the girl as Ladybug."
"Holy shit Yang!" Ruby pretended to be surprised. "It's a superhero!"
"A real live one!" Yang looked at Blake. "C'mon aren't you the least bit excited?!"
Blake narrowed her eyes in concentration towards the screen. There seemed to be a manner of recognition in her eyes. "I… I'll wait on her before I say anything."
Almost as soon as she said that, Jaune burst onto the table and slammed his hands near Ruby. "Thank God, guys, you're not gonna believe what happened last night!"
Yang cringed at his presence. "Ew who let Vomit Boy near us?"
"Yaaang!" Ruby pouted. "He's a friend."
"Listen, I was mugged on the street by some weirdo when this girl in a costume showed up and saved my life!"
"You mean that?" Yang pointed at the TV.
Jaune looked up. "Yeah her! She's Ladybug! I hope I didn't embarrass myself too much around her, she was so cool…"
"What seems to be the commotion around her?"
The students turned their heads to find Headmaster Salem staring at them. Yang waved her off.
"Aw nothing Salem," Yang said. "We're talking about Ladybug. See over there?"
Everyone turned towards the TV. They were all so focused on the screen, no one noticed the way Salem's face hardened at the sight of the superhero.
"I see…" Salem said carefully. "We live in very interesting times indeed…"
"I'll say," Ruby said while gently rubbing her earrings. "Maybe things will be better this year… I just gotta keep at it!"
(1/3) May I have a LOL and Danganronpa(Specifically SDR2) matchup please? I'm a female INFP Taurus, heteromantic asexual, 5'3', baby faced, mixed, and I'm 17 (About to turn 18 on April 24) and I have curly dark brown hair with brown eyes. I'm quiet, shy, and reserved but also passionate, childlike, sensitive, empathetic, loyal, smart, affectionate, curious, geeky, creative, imaginative, and idealistic. I have anxiety, depression, OCD, and Asperger's.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m not sure how much detail will I get into here, but I’ll try my best, ok?
As for League, I’d match you up with...
Pantheon!
Tumblr media
When I see Pantheon, before and after rework, I genuely think of him as like a big softie.
And I think of him like a superhero. Look at his bodytype, posture, everything.
I’m doing these without reading new or old story, it’s my point of view for him. (I’m not making research maybe because I’m afraid my visions of him will shatter but I HOPE NOT I will do it one day hahaa...)
Quiet, shy and passionate - reason why even considered talking to you. Maybe you were quiet, but he saw a passion running through you. Something very important.
You have mostly good personality traits. He saw you as someone better than him, you just seemed too perfect.
But then, as he got to know you, he started noticing other sides of you.
Instead of being afraid (he’s never afraid), he goes further into your relationship.
He wants to take care of you. He’ll reach out to you first when you need it too, he’d be patient, he’d make you cookies when you’re not feeling well.
He’s here for you.
He doesn’t mind childish behaviour that much, but he won’t be acting like that back.
As you like to bake too, you can have some dates while having fun in kitchen!
Pantheon is not very science type of guy, but if you want to talk about something, he’d listen. He’d feel stupid that he can’t answer much, but he appreciates you still want to talk to him even though he doesn’t know that much.
He can talk about astrology though! You know, since now he residents in Targon.
Pantheon is not a jewlery kind of guy, but make him a necklage with love put in it and he’ll wear it on almost every ocassion. (not on fights though. If he’d lose it he’d be angry at himself-)
As for Danganronpa, I’d match you up with...
Hajime Hinata!
Tumblr media
Goodest Boi TAT
Well, he fell in love in you at the first sight. But he found himself not worthy of even approaching you, you were such talented soul and had so many interests he just felt...unworthy.
It had to take him some time to even approach you. (Thanks Chiaki)
But when he did, he had no doubts - you’re the one.
Cute, passionate, creative, smart. Childish interests and behaviour from time to time adds some points to cute, he’s lovesick, even.
He knew he had to confess since he knew his behavious was slowly calling him out on his feelings, and he didn’t wanted to lose your friendship like that.
Well, he made a good call.
Maybe he ruined your friendship - but just to become a couple. A Cute one, lemme add!
Your interest intrigued him as much as surprised him everytime.
“...How...how does alchemy works.”
“You like magic, can you use it?”
“ Oh you’re drawing, it’s so cute, can you draw something for me?”   - when you drew him and yourself hugging, and then gave it to him, he almost cried out of  joy. He expected some cute Cat drawn with thought of him, but here he is, sobbing over cute art of you together.
He’s just soo lucky to have you.
He’s really affectionate, and when you’re not having the best time of your life, at first he’s confused about some of your problems, but he does his research, asks others who might know the topics of your disorders.
At first he sucks at helping you out, but later he’s getting better and better at it. Just for you, so he can stay by your side through good and bad.
With him, unlike with Pantheon, you can watch Didney movies together!
I find you guys so cute--
Aight, that’d be it from me! I hope it was at least slightly good ^^
Ray needs a hug
It just occurred to me that I haven’t actually spotlighted either of my main characters from my WIP Morgana City Murders, and it’s about time I fixed that. My next post like this will be about my other main character Bellamy, but for now I wanna talk about my poor traumatized baby Ray.
Ray’s Playlist
Ray grew up in a small, isolated village of wood elves. For the first several years of his life, he was an incredibly happy and outgoing boy who was well loved among all the other elves. This all changed when he turned ten and started showing signs of his natural gift for necromancy. What started as seemingly petty rumors grew harsher and harsher the more time Ray spent lingering around the flower bed at the edge of town where the ashes of deceased villagers were spread.
When Ray was twelve, his beloved cat Pumpkin got sick and died. He was absolutely devastated by this, and he talked his parents into throwing together a proper funeral for him. With a handful of close family friends gathered around to say goodbye to their little furry friend, Ray accidentally preformed his first Reanimation, bringing Pumpkin back from the dead. Ray was absolutely thrilled to have Pumpkin back, but this was seen as the final straw to most of the others in the village. Millennia of superstition made them want absolutely nothing to do with a necromancer, and so they turned a cold shoulder on Ray. A couple months after Pumpkin’s Reanimation, Ray’s father left the village in the middle of the night, leaving behind a note saying that he was too ashamed to be associated with a necromancer to stay for any longer. The only person who didn’t turn their back on Ray was his mother, who adamantly upheld her stance that they shouldn’t treat her baby boy like he was some sort of a monster when he didn’t choose to be this way.
Ray spent the next several decades of his life mostly hiding out in the back rooms of his mother’s bakery. His aptitude for talking to the dead grew stronger and stronger as the years went on, getting to the point where he could passively speak with lingering spirits without exerting any extra effort at all. Shortly after Ray’s eighty-third birthday, his mother contracted a disease known as Dragon Lungs. This disease is highly contagious among elves, so she was hastily shoved into isolation to prevent an epidemic from popping up. Ray spent several days arguing with the healers that he should be allowed to go in and see her, but ultimately his efforts turned out to be fruitless as she died alone after her lungs slowly filled themselves with smoke until she could no longer breathe. Unable to find another cause for her affliction, the other elves deemed Ray as bad luck and used this as their excuse to finally cast him out of the village for good.
Unsure of where exactly he was supposed to go now, Ray headed for the city of Morgana in the hopes that the mostly human population would be more accepting of him. Those hopes proved to be dead wrong as Ray once again found himself being shunned by pretty much everyone he encountered. During this time, he tried several times to contact his mother’s spirit, only to be met with the harsh truth that she had already passed on without even coming back as a ghost for long enough to say goodbye.
Ray eventually found his way to the city’s cemetery, where he met his best friend Chris. He may have been long dead, but Chris was the first person to truly be nice to Ray since his mother passed on, and he made damn sure that the other spirits lingering around the cemetery made Ray feel welcome. Since then, Ray has decided to stay among the city’s dead, only leaving the cemetery when he absolutely has to go out in search of food and/or water.
Hold me close:
Part 2 of the Kuroo x 1st person reader (1st/fem! point of view. Named her Nekomata, Kat or Shamu for calico cats)
Tag list: @vbcshenaningansnwritings & @kaidasen
Tumblr media
Begin here :
My alarm on my phone began to chime at 5a.m. I stifled a yawn as I silenced it. I woke up to two texts on my screen both from Kuroo telling me to sleep well and another for the morning. To say I was amused was not the least bit a lie. I chuckled softly when I pulled my hoodie over my tank top. I remained in my workout leggings from the night before, however I opted to keep my hair down instead of tying it back in a top knot bun. Today was a different day, so perhaps after I sneak back in, Lev would be awake. After the events of yesterday, I think he’d appreciate the gesture of me trying to help him control his aim. I slipped on my sneakers close to the classroom door, careful to not disturb any of my sleeping neighbors.
I was greeted by the Nekoma captain leaning against the opposite side of the wall dressed as casually as I was. He was quick to take hold of my hand and lead me down the hallway of our campus. In a matter of minutes, we snuck past all of the rooms hosting the different teams during the training camp. We did not speak a word to each other until we were outside the campus gates. Kuroo let go of my hand asking me where we were headed.
“I just wanted to get some peanut m&ms and coffee,” my groggy voice seemed to have been filtered with gravel this morning. “I didn’t want to walk these streets alone.” Kuroo nodded, agreeing with me that these streets were safely lit, but I shouldn’t be walking in the dawn alone. We reached the local 7/11 by our campus where we went aisle by aisle browsing through different products.
I stopped in front of the coffee machines and hid my tired expression by rubbing the side of my eye.
“Here, lemme pour that. You seemed tired enough as it is,” Kuroo offered.
“O-okay. You know, I could do it myself,” I teased. However, he wasn’t having it, to which I laughed off later. He poured one for himself as well. Soon, we exited the store, splitting the bag of candy between us. He noticed I was only eating the the primary color ones first before moving on to the oranges and greens, finishing the bag with the browns.
“Why do you do that?” he asked. I suppose he was entertained by my color-coded pickiness.
“All m&ms are the same milk chocolate. Is there anything wrong with color coding my candy?” I inquired. I began to sip the remainder of my coffee little by little as Kuroo continued walking at my side. The streaks of the morning sun began to filter through the light gray clouds overhead.
“No. It’s just funny is all.”
“Of course it is. How’s the coffee?”
“It’s fine, Kat. Just like you.”
“Are you attempting to flirt with me right at the sunrise?”
“Maybe. Is that bad?”
I took another swig of my coffee. My cheeks were a bit flushed with color from the hot beverage, but there was an underlying redness to them and I knew it was from his compliment.
“No. Actually, coming from you, I think that was rather sweet.” My lips curled into a childlike smile. He arched his eyebrow at me before choking on his next sip of his coffee. This caused me to burst into maniacal fit of giggles.
“One compliment in for the day and I have already broken her.” Kuroo muttered when he was able to calm down. By 5:25,  we were already back on campus grounds, awaiting the rest of the members of the teams to wake up. Morning practices typically included a jog, so everyone except for the secondary managers and myself stayed behind to begin preparing breakfast for the players.
In the kitchen, I heard the mixer for the scrambled eggs go off as well as the toaster ding every couple of seconds or so. Hitoka was in charge of the eggs while Yukie, the manager from Fukurodani, was in charge of the toast. I, on the other hand, was manning the gas lit stove. I rolled up my sleeves and put on my earbuds. I played jazz selections from the early 40s-late70s while making the rolled egg omelets. We did this for roughly an hour and a half, until the teachers and coaches walked in to see how efficient we were at making breakfast.
“Yukie, Hitoka, help me out by beginning to fry some of the bacon please on that stove over there,” I instructed, tossing my head back over my shoulder to point to the stove.
“Yes ma’am!” they said in unison.
“That granddaughter of yours is something else,” we heard Takeda-sensei compliment me. Nekomata clasped the young educator by his shoulder.
“Of course she is. Kat leads by example. After all, this isn’t her first training camp with me,” my grandfather stated.
Around 7:30 all teams had returned from their morning run and began to walk through the kitchen. I made sure Yukie and Hitoka ate before the boys came and wrecked havoc on the simple spread of breakfast items we had laid out for them. I paused my music for a moment before I disappeared back into the kitchen to make myself a plate of over easy eggs and buttered toast. I took my plate and wandered off to the back of the kitchen to sit on one of the steps. I placed my earphones back in once the volume of the chatter were echoing, just this once, I would like my peace to eat alone. A morning spent with John Coltrane’s Giant Steps was a morning well spent, in my opinion. I stifled another yawn as I raised my arms above my head in an attempt to stretch. I overheard the coaches instructing their players which drills they were going to be practicing with through the lowered volume of my headphones.
“Just enough time in between drills to start on lunch,” I said softly to myself. I checked the time of my phone and noticed I had about another thirty minutes or so before I had my one on one lessons with Lev. I pulled myself up off my make shift dining area and went back into the kitchen. I paused my music and disconnected my headphones in order to place them back in my shared room with the other managers. Those who went on the morning runs with their teams volunteered to do the dishes this time since the work was needed to be evenly balanced. I thanked the girls for their help while I walked back to our room to freshen up a bit more (i could tell I smelled like the meal I cooked for the boys, so a quick rinse was in order for me before I went to gym 3 sporting just my gray sports bra and magenta dry fit capris [with my sneakers on again]).
I had arrived at gym 3 a couple of minutes late to see Lev, Yaku, Bokuto, and Kuroo taking turns practicing spikes. Bokuto spotted me out of the corner of his eye and he nudged Kuroo with his elbow.
“What the hell Bo, that hu--Oh,” Kuroo said when he saw me standing there half clad ready to get work done. His blush was not very concealed when Lev and Yaku looked at their captain with knowing grins.
“Neko-senpai looks amazing,” Lev whispered into Kuroo’s ear. Yaku almost roundhouse kicked him, but he didn’t when Kuroo collected his thoughts into a solemn, “Yeah,” which Bokuto heard.
Bokuto wasn’t as dense or as thick headed as every one seemed to me
“Hey hey hey! Kat’s here!” Bokuto exclaimed jogging up to me. His gray and white hair bounced along as he ran, which caused me to chuckle. “You’re going to join us?”
“Hey yourself Bo,” I said walking in. He picked me up in a hug and twirled me around before placing me back down on the gym floor. This caused me to see Kuroo’s nostrils flare in a small fit of jealousy. Yes, I may have known Kuroo for a short period of school time, but Bokuto and I were close in elementary school before splitting up to different junior high and high schools. We remained in contact over the years especially since volleyball was the one thing that brought our friendship together (that and gramps had a close friendship with the Fukurodani coach).
“Morning guys. Bo, you had your fun, but I’m actually here for Lev,” I said bending down to pick up a few of the strewn volleyballs. I nodded toward where the tall string bean first year stood. “C’mon, let’s use the other court set up for spike practice. Have fun boys.”
Lev followed behind me with a few more volleyballs in his hands and he placed them on the floor behind one of the serving boundary lines. His other companions were starting up a receiving drill (usually comprised of one setter and spiker duo and a solo player on the othrer side, typically a libero).
“Alright Lev,” I began bouncing one of the royal blue and canary yellow spheres on the floor. “I’m going to have you stand on the opposite side of the net and I want you to watch me as I serve. I’m going to need you to try and either one, let it go out of bounds or two, receive it. Ready?”
“As I’ll ever be, senpai,” Lev said with a shrug. I smiled with glee. This child wouldn’t know what hit him. I thought. Maybe I should hold back? Nah, my inner voice snickered. This is for the benefit of the team if he’s going to learn today...
I gave the ball a solid bounce before I walked behind the server’s line and tossed the ball high in the air. The split second the ball reached the appropriate height for me I leaped into the air and with another loud crack sprouting from my left palm,the ball whirred past Lev’s tall stature. I landed on my feet with a proud smile when I saw where the ball landed, it was inside the lines of the court, meaning that in an official match, I had scored a service ace. Gramps always taught me to try to aim for the spot none of the other players were thinking the ball would go.
The others stopped for a moment in the middle of their own self practice long enough to witness the magic that just occurred. I guess I was able to shock them into a renowned silence. Honestly,because I had other interests than volleyball, maybe they thought I didn’t know how to play? However, there was no time to waste, so I bent down to pick up another ball to send over the net.
“Don’t tell me you three thought I couldn’t play volleyball? Me, the granddaughter of Nekoma’s formidable coach? Haha,” I teased, brushing my hair over my shoulder. Lev seemed petrified for a few seconds while his seniors shook their heads before chuckling along nervously at my strong serve. “It’s alright, I’m joking. So Lev, are you ready for another one?”
“N-no? How did you do that? I mean you almost hit me!” Lev said with an admiring sheen over his eyes.
“Practice? I mean, you could have returned it instead of letting it slip by, Lev. Clearly that was a service ace,” I replied with a shrug. “You want to serve to me this time?”
He agreed on the condition that he listened to my instruction for the next hour and a half. His serves did get better, in my honest opinion. Lev had improved his command on where the ball was heading. I was able to return a few of his serves, but I have a feeling his technique would improve over time.
“I think we ought to stop here before you over work your arm,” I mentioned, patting Lev’s shoulder when he crossed under the net. “Improvement is not going to come overnight, but your serving aim did gain some control.”
“You think so?” Lev asked me when he straightened up.
“Well, yeah. We’ve been at this for a little over an hour, but” I began. I had simply not paid attention to the time before Kiyoko and Yukie appeared to escort the boys to the main gym where their practice games were about to begin.
“You four clearly have practice matches to get to.” I walked toward the other three and ushered them out of the gym much to their protesting, but I was not budging on them missing out on team practice. Once the group had left, I began picking up the remainder of the volleyballs laying across both courts before wheeling the carts away to the side of the wall.
Kuroo came back a few minutes later before I was able to press song shuffle on my phone’s GooglePlay. I tucked my phone in my side pocket of the leggings I wore when he greeted me with a bashful look. How did this captain seem so competely competent on the court yet now look like a shy elementary school kid who saw their teacher on their midday attire?
“Oh, Kuroo? Did you forget something?” I asked, wiping the sweat drops off my forehead with the back of my hand. I approached him when I noticed he was fidgeting with his hands like he did when he had something on his mind. I glanced up at him, thinking of what I should help the girls prepare for lunch, but that was neither here nor there.
“Uh, yeah. I did,” he replied, bending down toward me. It happened so quickly; his lips brushed against mine gently. No one would have noticed unless I told them that his lips lightly pressed against my own. A kiss for luck? I though. Maybe this was not what I was expecting at all; there was this inkling of short-lived innocent wondering what his lips would feel like against mine that floated in my head. Light like cotton candy and sweet like caramel, I mused.
When he pulled away, I yearned for him to kiss me again, but I tucked thought back into my mind. Kuroo looked over my shoulder for a moment before mentioning he should head back before his team would play without him. I traced my lips with my index finger, still feeling the giddiness spread across my body like wildfire.
“Good luck in your match against Bokuto, Kuroo. Oh,” I said reaching out to stop him from leaving for a moment. “Don’t be too mad at our friend for hugging me the way he did earlier. You did look annoyed when you have jealousy written on your brow...”
***
Later on that evening, before I went to bed, I received a text from Kuroo asking me to meet him by the vending machines by his classroom turned dorm for the training camp. He claims it wasn’t his idea, but Bokuto was the one who actually sent me the message, seeing as they had a phone mix up earlier after their practice games had ceased.
“Are you trying to blame Bokuto for this meeting?” I quirked my eyebrow up at him. I leaned against the side of the vending machine with my arms lazily crossed over my old Nekoma dance team shirt; my denim pants glowed with the backlight of the soda machine. “I remembered you guys accidentally switched phones, but you sent me a message considering the time stamp, to meet you here. So, what did you want to talk abo--mmph!?”
Kuroo had this overtly confident look in his eyes before he leaned into my personal space for the second time that day, he kissed me. This time, I was a bit more prepared. Upon impact, I screwed my eyes shut. I didn’t think anyone would of came out of their rooms considering how late it was, so all I could do was wrap my arms around his broad shoulders and pull his body closer to me.
There was this feeling of being warmed up like a hot tea being served to you on a cold night when Kuroo placed a hand on my cheek; the pad of his calloused fingers traced the features of my face. This kiss had a meaning: there was a longing behind the way his lips melded onto mine. Apparently, Kuroo’s mouth seemed to be made of magnets, finding my own again like this afternoon. His kisses were curiously asking me questions like what do I see in him and why did he wait so long to kiss me like this? It was probably his dumb late realization of having a crush on me that drove him to kiss me this afternoon, the same logic behind now. I pulled away first this time, studying his facial features. His eyes slowly opened to reveal a slight dilation in his pupils. Kuroo was indeed falling for me every second we were in this position. I ran my hands through his now dampened hair, causing his once rooster like hair-do to be done again.
“Shut up and let me kiss you kitty-Kat,” Kuroo whispered to me when he rested his forehead against mine. The faint smell of bubblegum flavored toothpaste he used intoxicated my already quivering lips.
“Please.” One world was all I had to say right before a hand of mine gripped the collar of his ebony shirt downward. I had a small smile grace my lips before I let my lips smack against his first. This time it wasn’t a just a light peck; instead I mustered every ounce of what I thought was a one-sided crush emotion into every second I had with him alone against the vending machine. It seemed like whatever emotions we had toward each other was masked in our moment of a coup de tonnerre. Electricity was coursing through our veins, but we wanted to keep this intense moment going for as long as needed. I let held on to him for a few more seconds before his hand was lost in a fist full of my mane.
Then, I felt the heat of Kuroo’s hand leave my face to rest comfortably against my waist. That was until I released his shirt from my hold, only to grip his shoulders. In one efficient move, I twisted his body until his back was against the wall, pinning him there. I swallowed his laughter when I ran my tongue over his mouth begging for entry. He didn’t make me wait long because I don’t think he minded one bloody bit since he continued to keep extending this passion-fueled moment for as long as we could. We were too proud to let the other withdraw first considering whatever this was, we needed to keep being locked in a tight embrace. Funnily enough, when I felt him nip the corner of my mouth in jest, but I had to pull away from him before we got too carried away during “quiet hours.” I pressed a finger to his pursed lips before speaking in a hushed tone. Our breathing was a bit ragged, but considering the shit-eating grins on our faces strewn across our faces made the other feel a bit more confident.
“Your kisses are just as enigmatic as I thought,” I told him, resting my head against his chest. His hands remained wrapped around my waist gently. I patted his upper arms as a sign to let me go, even though I know he didn’t want to. Instead he pulled me closer.
“Yours leave me wanting more,” he whispered in my hair. He continued to press open mouth kisses against my neck, his nose brushing against the warmest part of my neck behind my ear. This sent shivers down my spine and he knew it. There was going to eventually be a lover’s bite there if I didn’t stop him by reminding him we have to wake up early again tomorrow.
“What if I don’t want you to go?” Kuroo’s voice had an inkling of a disappointed pout. I raised a hand to cup his cheek, explaining if he didn’t want me to leave his side after this training camp was over, he’d have to take me out a proper date to which he sighed before burying his head against the crook of the other side of my neck. I patted the back of his head when he asked what I was doing on a Saturday night two weeks from the end of camp.
“Apparently, I’m going on a date with you?” was my reply before I placed both of my hands on his face to make him look at me. I smiled softly when I kissed his cheek. I bid the raven haired cat captain good bye before we both began walking back to our respective dorms. When I looked over my shoulder, Kuroo bit his bottom lip at me; it was a cute emotion, but I knew he’d want more lf whatever this was going to be whether it was a relationship or a fling. The choice was up to him, and honestly, I am hoping for the first option. I’m sure his heart was telling him that too. I took my phone out once I had tucked myself cozily in my sleeping bag bed and sent a text:
I have to say that this one is my favorite because it literally made me CRY seeing it the first time! So, without further ado, here it is! :D
Also, I really wanted to post a link to her post but I can’t find it on my laptop for some reason. So I’m sorry if the pictures are out of scale or something! I’ll try to add another link using mobile after I post this!
“So Long, Happy”
Rated K.
Summary: Saying goodbye hurts, especially when it’s to one of your closest friends.
So Long, Happy
All that could be heard were the muffled sobs as the three walked to their destination. Nobody said a word, their throats tight and constricted from all of their crying. Their steps were slow, as if trying to postpone the inevitable, which in truth they might have subconsciously doing. They wanted to turn around. They wanted to go home and laugh, tease each other, and continue their never-ending adventure.
But they couldn’t.
Not when Happy had a mission.
After the battle with Zeref and Acnologia, Lucy, Natsu, and Happy had found peace in their lives. They went on jobs together, messed up Lucy’s apartment together, and shared each day like it was their last. They had been through so much over the past couple of years, they very much needed the serenity.
Not long after, however, two strange people entered the guildhall. One was a girl with blonde hair, lighter than Lucy’s and not as golden. It fell in waves, a little bit past her shoulders. Her eyes were a beautiful shade of blue, similar to Mira’s. Next to her was a boy with black hair, not unlike Gray’s. His eyes were dark and slanted. There was a small bandage over his cheek.
Before anyone could speak, they both dropped to their knees and bowed.
“Please,” the girl spoke. Her voice was strained, cracking as if she had been crying recently. “We… We need your help.”
Everyone in the guild shared a look of concern. The one who spoke next was none other than Natsu, who had walked closer to the strange pair.
“Then you came to the right place!” he said, giving them a wide grin in hopes of lightening the mood. “Fairy Tail never backs down from a job!”
“What is it you need?” Erza chimed in.
“We need your help,” the strange girl answered, her gaze still glued to the floor. “Our world- or worlds, I should say- is in danger of destruction.”
“What do you mean by worlds? Who are you people?”
“My name is Rebecca, and this is Shiki. We come from a different planet in another dimension of space.”
“A different dimension of space?” Lucy repeated, her mouth opened wide. “Is this like Edolas again?”
“I don’t think so,” Makarov answered. “Edolas was another world, but it was connected to ours. If their world is in a different pocket of space, then it would be different entirely, is that correct?”
Rebecca nodded. “There are multiple universes. We come from the Sakura Cosmos. I know it may be hard to believe but-”
“After everything all of us have been through, there’s really not much that’s hard to believe,” Natsu interrupted, giving the girl a grin. “So, what do you need us to do? Head over there?”
“Well… it’s not that simple. We can only take one of you. Coming from different universes, our bodies are made up of different materials. Ours are made up of something called ether, while yours are made up of something foreign to us. In order to get here, one of our friends back home had to create these devices that are inserted into our bodies and converts our ether into what is known as magical power over here. The parts needed to make them are rare in our world, so he could only make enough to bring back one person.”
“Just one?” Lucy asked, a frown spreading over her face.
“Don’t worry, Lucy,” Natsu said, nudging the girl and flashing her a reassuring grin. “I’ll go. And I’ll be back before you know it.”
“Actually…” Rebecca started, biting her lower lip. “There’s a specific person that we came for.”
“Huh? Who is it?”
Rebecca glanced behind Natsu, pointing at the blue exceed behind him.
“We came for Happy.”
The cat’s eyes widened. Pointing at himself, he asked, “Me?”
“Yes. I used to have a companion like you,” Rebecca started, her voice cracking. Her eyes pricked with tears, but she blinked them back. Now wasn’t the time to cry. She had to save the world. “But, umm… He didn’t make it in our last battle.”
Lucy’s hands flew to her mouth. It was that bad over there? Sure, she’d had more than a few close calls with her friends, but she’d never had any of them actually die.
“You look and sound just like the Happy from my own world,” Rebecca said with a sad smile. “And in order to use my powers, I need Happy. We’re running low on fighters, I can’t be put on the sidelines now.”
“So Happy will help you use your powers?” Erza asked. “How?”
“Well, once we insert the conversion device into Happy, his body will have ether that is compatible with my own. He will be able to transform his body into my weapon. That is, if he chooses to come with us.”
Everyone turned towards the cat in question. He shrugged.
“Sure. Why not?” Happy said with a grin.
Shiki frowned, shaking his head. “You should take some time to think about it first.”
“Huh? Why? All I’m doing there is helping you win and then coming back, right?”
“It’s not that simple,” Rebecca said, her frown growing. “While having you around will help our efforts, it won’t change the tide of the battle overnight. It’s a long and dangerous journey. In fact… It could take up to years.”
“Years!?” Lucy repeated. “But… But Happy…”
Natsu’s eyes were wide, his stomach filled with dread. The thought of going without one of his best friends for so long made him sick. Happy had been there for him through everything. He was there to help look for Igneel, there when Igneel had died, and was there to help with Zeref. Happy was his partner in crime, his confidant.
Happy frowned, glancing up at Natsu. It was clear that the boy wasn’t processing the information well.
“I’m sorry,” Happy said, turning back towards Rebecca and Shiki. “I don’t think I can be away that long. This is my home, and all of my friends are here…”
Rebecca nodded, but she couldn’t fight the tears that slipped down her cheeks. Happy was her only hope, and while she understood completely, it was devasting to know that he wasn’t going to help.
“We understand,” Shiki said. “Thank you for hearing us out.” He picked Rebecca up from the floor and went to lead her out of the guild when Natsu spoke.
“Wait,” he said, swallowing thickly. He crouched in front of Happy, ruffling his fur. “Don’t worry about me, buddy.”
“But-!” the cat started, only to be interrupted.
“I’m not gonna force you to go or anything, but these people need your help. I’m not gonna selfishly keep you here either. We’re Fairy Tail wizards, we don’t give up on jobs that we accept, right?”
Happy nodded, tears welling in his eyes. “A-Aye…” Before he could get discouraged and change his mind, he turned back towards the two. “I’ll go with you.”
After that, they were given one last day to hang out together. Many tears were shed that night, knowing that it would be their last time seeing each other for a while. Still, they made the best they could out of it.
But now that the fateful day was upon them, their feet felt like bricks and sorrow was heavy in their hearts. As selfish as it was, they didn’t want to let Happy go. They wanted him to stay with the guild, laughing, eating fish, and trying to win Charle’s heart.
Reaching Hargeon, the place they were told to meet up with Rebecca and Shiki, their sorrow intensified. This was the place Natsu and Happy had met Lucy. It held wonderful memories for them, as it was the beginning of their adventure. Ironically, it was also the end of it as well.
Soon enough, they could make out Rebecca and Shiki standing by the pier. A large, metallic ship rested in the water behind them. It was clear it wasn’t an ordinary ship, but they didn’t care about that at the moment.
Reaching the pair, the trio started their goodbyes.
Lucy watched, her heart sinking in her chest as Natsu crouched beside Happy, scooping him into his arms in a tight hug, his hand cupping the back of the exceed’s head. Tears washed over his face and sunk into Happy’s fur. The two cried together, uncaring of who saw.
Lucy crouched beside them, poking the back of Happy’s head. Her eyes stung with tears and her throat was dry. She hadn’t been able to stop crying since yesterday. Still, she wanted to be strong for her friend.
Forcing a smile to her face, Lucy held her arms out in front of her. Happy choked back a sob, launching himself into her chest for a final hug. No longer able to hold it in any longer, Lucy broke down, her cries loud enough to gain the attention of people passing by. She wept and wept, expecting her tears to run out eventually, but they didn’t.
It seemed Happy wasn’t faring any better, his claws digging into her sides as he cried. How many times had they hugged like this before? It was too much to count.
Trying to regain control of herself, Lucy pulled away.
A shaky smile spread over her face. “Be good, okay? D-Don’t give these guys too much trouble.”
Happy nodded, burying his face into her chest again. They held onto each other for a few more minutes, but their time was short. Happy had to go soon, and Lucy knew that his next goodbye meant even more.
Gently carrying Happy, Lucy handed him to Natsu. Without saying a word, the boy held Happy close to his chest. He wanted to say goodbye, but he couldn’t speak. The words wouldn’t come to him and his throat felt like it was getting tighter by the second. He felt sick to his stomach, so sad that he thought he might throw up. The only other times he’d been this sad was when he saw Igneel die or when he thought Lucy had died.
Still, he needed to be optimistic. He knew Happy better than anyone, and if he continued to act like this, then Happy would change his mind. And even though a large part of Natsu wished he would, he knew that there were people that needed him. People were dying, even if he couldn’t see it happening with his own two eyes. The thought alone was to galvanize him to speak.
“It’s okay, buddy,” he started, his voice just above a whisper. It was hoarse, cracking under the pressure of his emotions. “I trust them.”
“A-Aye,” Happy replied, his voice muffled as his face was buried in Natsu’s scarf.
They stayed like that in silence, as if scared that their time together would end if one of them spoke. Knowing that their time together was coming to an end soon, Lucy hugged them both tightly.
“I love you, Happy,” she whispered, unable to speak any louder. “Be safe, got it? You make sure that you come back to us.”
“Aye,” Happy replied with a nod.
Natsu smoothed a hand over the cat’s head one more time before pulling away from the hug. He knew that he needed to be the one to act, for if he didn’t, nobody else would. He had to be strong.
“C'mon, buddy. It’s time for you to go. A new journey for you begins,” he said, wiping away his tears and smiling at his friend. His lips quivered, and the smile didn’t reach his eyes, but it was enough to reassure the cat that what he was doing was the right thing to do.
Shiki picked up Happy, admittedly feeling guilty for being the one to take him away from such a loving family. He loved making new friends, but doing it like this wasn’t satisfying. His heart broke for the three of them just watching them say goodbye.
“Don’t worry, we’ll take care of him,” Rebecca told Lucy, a smile on her face in hopes of cheering the other girl up.
Lucy gave a wet smile in return, tears streaming down her face. “I’m sure of that.”
Natsu swallowed thickly, ruffling his hand through Happy’s fur one more time. This was it. This was goodbye.
“So long, Happy,” he choked out. “I’ll see you soon.”
“Aye,” the exceed replied with a nod. “Soon.”
With that, Rebecca, Shiki, and Happy headed towards the ship, ready to start their new adventure.
The weight of Natsu’s emotions at the sight of Happy’s retreating form brought him crashing to his knees and clutching his scarf for support. His breathing was staggered, unable to be calmed even as Lucy wrapped her arms around him. Together, the two cried, knowing that their lives weren’t going to be the same without Happy there with them. The three of them were the original Team Natsu. Until Happy returned, there was always going to be a hole in their hearts.
But they had faith in their friend. Happy was a strong cat, stronger than he looked. They knew that he would help Rebecca and Shiki, just as he had helped them. Then, he would return.
“H-Happy!” Natsu cried out.
Happy turned around to find Natsu being held in Lucy’s arms. The boy’s body trembled as he brought a shaky hand into the air. Pointing his index finger and thumb out, he gave the cat Fairy Tail’s signature salute. Lucy smiled through her tears, raising her hand and doing the same.
For the first time that day, Happy smiled back at them, finally feeling ready to follow through with his decision. Raising his paw in the air, he mirrored their form. With that, he boarded the ship with the others, not turning around again to check on them. He knew that they were distraught. He was too. But he was going to see them again, he’d make sure of it.
Because even if they couldn’t find where he was, they would always be looking his way, just as he would with them.
Light[s] - Three
Hello hello~! I actually, honestly, almost forgot to post this? Its been....a very busy week. So, I hope that you guys enjoy this, okay?? I really enjoy writing it, so say the least!!
To Tag: @sunflowergem
One || Two
Everything around you was dark. A light glared up from the platform beneath you, illuminating nothing but itself. It was crystal white, lined with scrolling black lace in a perfect circle. The middle, where you stood, was clear. It let you stare straight down into whatever you stood on. A long ways down, there must have been a bottom, as a small speck of gray and white sat there. You stared at it, turned in slow circles to see what it was, stepped closer to the edge to see it from another angle. No matter how you looked at it, you couldn’t get any other clues besides its color.
Careful.
You whipped around. Your bare toes curled over the edge of the platform. You took a step back. Your foot slipped, sending you sprawling against the glass.
You could fall.
“Who’s there?” you called. Your throat vibrated with your words, but you couldn’t hear them.
A friend.
You pushed yourself to your feet.
Take the stairs. They’re safer than falling.
“What stairs?” You turned in a circle and stopped. A white glass platform hung off the edge of the floor. You padded over. White glass stairs circled down into the darkness, hugging the side of the tower you stood on. It was a dark stone, with thin and elongated rainbow stained glass windows embedded into it. You followed the stairs down, trying to peek through the windows in search of whatever you had seen before.
You won’t find it.
“Why not?” you asked.
It’s not here. You haven’t seen it. There’s a few reasons.
You scoffed at that and continued walking. “Who are you?”
Someone looking out for you, that’s all.
You slowed down, looking up and down the tower. You could no longer see the pointed tops of the windows and there was no bottom in sight. But the panes had changed. There were delicate details etched into them. In one green square was your home…
You might want to wake up. They’re here.
“Who…?” The stairs started to deteriorate. The voice didn’t answer. As the stair you stood on disappeared in a shower of light, you felt your stomach drop. It forced your eyes open.
The ceiling of the castle room was so far above you, it was still cast in shadow as the sun poured through your windows. Excited voices filled your room. You rolled out of bed, discarding the silky pajamas you had worn in exchange for your freshly washed clothes, and made your way to the window. It overlooked the garden, where Donald, Goofy, and Mickey stood with two other people.
Actual people.
One was grinning, his hands behind his head. The other sported a smaller smile. One had unruly brunette spikes. The other had short silver hair. You narrowed your eyes, tilted your head.
“They’re here…?” you asked yourself. You looked around the room until you spotted your shoes tucked underneath a chair. Yanking them on, you ran from the room and down the hall, trying to follow the path you had taken before. It took a few errors to find the right down and the stairs out to the garden, but you found them, and also found yourself stumbling down them until you hit the ground.
Mickey turned at the sound. “Speak of the devil!” he exclaimed.
You straightened, tugging your clothes into the right directions as you stared. “Excuse me?”
“We were just talking about you, I think.” The brunette’s smile grew. He repeated your name to you. “That’s you, right?”
“Yeah.”
“So what happened?” His hands dropped from behind his head. “To your world, I mean?”
“Sora.”
“Wha~at?”
The silver haired boy shook his head. He turned his gaze to you, trapping you with his seafoam green eyes. “I’m Riku,” he introduced. He patted the brunette with the back of his hand. “This knuckle-head is Sora.”
“Hey!”
Riku chuckled. He returned his gaze to you and asked your name. It took you a minute to give it. Riku crossed his arms, eyes narrowing as a smug smile tugged up his lips. “So you are who we were talking about.”
“I told you,” Sora retorted.
“That doesn’t mean you have to be rude.”
“At least I’m paying attention. They already said that was their name.” Sora planted his fists on his hips. A grin wormed across his face. “Or are you distracted by something already?”
“No?” Even you could see the faint pink blush that darkened Riku’s cheeks. “We’re here for something important. Remember?”
“Ri~ight.”
You walked closer to the circle that formed in the middle of the garden. “So…you guys know what’s happening?” you asked.
Sora preened. “Maybe a little. We’re certified Keyblade Masters.”
Riku shook his head again. You thought it might have been a habit of his when it came to Sora. “Lemme guess. Your world? There was a storm? Big, dark, and creepy one?”
“Yeah, how did you—”
“And these black buggy creatures, right?” Sora lifted his hands to his head, making antennae with his fingers. “With big yellow eyes?”
You tilted your head. “Actually, no.”
“No?” The word came from everyone around you.
You reached over your shoulder, brushing the strap of your backpack as you did. “Yeah, they were…white? Like…someone stuck a ton of lights into them. They looked like cats but…longer? Lanky. Long legs and long bodies.” You shook your head, motioning to Sora with a small smile. “I didn’t see any shadow ants.”
“They’re Heartless,” Sora defended. His hands were still at his head.
Mickey place a hand to his mouth. “Hmm…I bet, if we take a look in the library, we might be able to find out what those are.”
“If not, we can always ask YenSid,” Goofy chimed in.
“Or see Kairi in Radiant Garden,” added Donald.
“Yeah.” Sora’s voice sounded a million miles away at the name. “We haven’t been there in a while.”
You actually hated to butt in on wherever his mind took him. But, as you patted your backpack, you felt the top of the map with your fingers. You tugged it free and held it out. “I also found this the day everything happened.” You balanced it between your palms, staring at the indention the charm had formed. You hoped that it was somewhere in your bag, too. “I know the bookstore forward and backwards, and this was never there before yesterday.”
Sora blinked away his thoughts. “So, what is it?”
Mickey took the map from you and started to unroll it as you spoke, “It’s a map, I think? I mean…I saw Provincial Town when I opened it the first time. Saw this place the last. But…Provincial Town wasn’t anywhere on the map anymore.” You shrugged and balled up your fists, shoving them under your arms when you found no place for them. “There’s just a…swirling ink stain.”
“I hate to ask but…” Mickey trailed off as he stared at the map. You peeked over. Goofy leaned over his shoulder, Donald shoving his head under Mickey’s other arm. The King looked up at you. “Are you sure that’s what you saw?”
“Well…yeah? Why do you ask?”
He tilted the map down. You saw what you had seen before: The crazy spires of the blue and white castle you were in, the town opposite of its tiny orb; the swirling mass of darkness where your home used to be. There were other worlds coming into focus on the map, ones you hadn’t noticed the first few times you had looked. You dropped your hands and stepped closer, bumping shoulders against Riku as he and Sora did the same.
“I don’t know what’s wrong?” you said. You pointed to the closest world. “This is where we are, I’m assuming.” You tilted your head as writing looped beneath it. “Disney Castle,” you read slowly. Mickey held the map out flat. You leaned in more, watching as more worlds came into fo—
Your head cracked against Sora’s and Riku’s. Leaning back, you glanced up, rubbing the sore spot on your temple to find them doing the same. “Guess great minds think alike?” you offered.
“Yeah. ‘Great’,” Donald commented.
Sora leaned over the map. “Now what’s that supposed to mean, huh?”
“You said that Kairi was at Radiant Gardens? It’s here too.” You pointed at the map, making sure to not run into anyone a second time. “A big pink castle, right? And pretty gardens.” You watched as more worlds came into detail and more names curled out beneath them. “Destiny Island. Enchanted Domain. There’s hundreds of these here.” You looked up. “Can you…not see them?”
“There’s nothing on the map,” Riku replied.
Sora lifted it, checking the leather side of the bound scroll. “How can you see them? It’s just paper?” Sora asked.
You shrugged with a soft sound of doubt. Mickey tilted the map one way, then another. “Perhaps we should visit with Yen Sid first. If this is magic, maybe he’ll know what kind it is!” He looked up. “He might even know what your light creatures are!” He rolled the map up and held it out to you. “You should keep this with you until then.”
You took the map and carefully slipped it back in your bag. “So? Do we go see him now?” you asked. The four in front of you looked at each other. “Before anything else happens?” you added slowly. “Like the light creatures come here?”
“That sounds like a plan if I’ve ever heard one,” Goofy agreed.
Mickey nodded. “We should prepare before we go. Who knows what we could run into between leaving here, and getting to Master Yen Sid.” Mickey nodded again. “I have things to do before we can leave. I’ll meet you all at the Gummi Ship, okay?”
You heard a chorus of agreements as the King trotted off. You adjusted your bag on your shoulders. “So, I’ll stick with you guys, right?” you suggested.
Sora grinned. “Yeah. Stick with us. We’ll take care of you.”
Interview the muse!
Tumblr media
“Sweeeet. Can’t even remember the last time I was interviewed! Bring it on!”
► ARE YOU SINGLE?   ➭  “Nope! Believe it or not, this guy’s dating the most incredible woman in all the multiverse! Lemme tell you about her-” [THE REST OF THIS ANSWER WILL BE SKIPPED, DUE TO LACK OF SPACE] ► ARE YOU HAPPY?   ➭  “I mean, yeah, I’m generally happy. But forcing me to stop mid-gush wasn’t the best move on your part.” ► ARE YOU ANGRY?   ➭  “When provoked.” ► ARE YOUR PARENTS STILL MARRIED? ➭  “Do legal bindings still apply when you’re burning in hell?”
NINE FACTS.
► BIRTH PLACE   ➭  “Santa Destroy ER. Fired outta my mom’s vag, caught by the doc with the baseball mitt. Y’know, the usual.” ► HAIR COLOR   ➭  “Black.” ► EYE COLOR   ➭  “Bright blue.” ► BIRTHDAY   ➭  “December 13th.” ► MOOD  ➭  “Bit of a swinger, but I’m usually pretty upbeat, and easy to get fired up, whether for better or worse.” ► GENDER   ➭  “I’m all man.” ► SUMMER OR WINTER   ➭  “Summer means more eye candy, and winter holds some bad memories for me... but the holidays rock (now that I’ve got people to celebrate with), and the cold makes me Rosa’s personal heater. So, yeah, winter.” ► MORNING OR AFTERNOON   ➭  “Afternoon. Mornings are for sleeping in, whenever you can get the chance.”
EIGHT QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE.
► ARE YOU IN LOVE?   ➭  “I went on about Rosa for ten minutes before you cut me off. Do I really gotta answer this?” ► DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?   ➭  “I fall pretty damn hard, pretty damn fast. But love at first sight? I think that’s one cliche that ain’t for me.” ► WHO ENDED YOUR LAST RELATIONSHIP?   ➭  “She left me. She disappeared; Without a word, for a month, and knowing my issues with this shit. She had reasons, yeah, but... It still hurt. I never got a real apology, either — the old city took her for good before she could. Whatever. I’m better off, now.” ► HAVE YOU EVER BROKEN SOMEONE’S HEART?   ➭  “... Once, I think. Shinobu Jacobs. Former-adversary-turned-friend — if I can even call her that. She came onto me outta nowhere, but she was too young, and... I dunno, too much like me at the time? I turned her down, and... Well, I never saw her again. Heard she’s doing well in the new games, though. That’s good.” ► ARE YOU AFRAID OF COMMITMENTS? ➭  “Not anymore.” ► HAVE YOU HUGGED SOMEONE WITHIN THE LAST WEEK? ➭  “Hell yeah! Used to lie to myself, say that hugs were sentimental garbage I didn’t need. Boy, was I ever wrong on that!” ► HAVE YOU EVER HAD A SECRET ADMIRER?  ➭  “Yup. When you’re a hometown celebrity / urban legend worshiped by way too many, you get more than the fair share of fans. Most of them... wanted me dead. Because why wouldn’t they?” ► HAVE YOU EVER BROKEN YOUR OWN HEART?   ➭  “... Probably... Yeah. Again and again, I’d bet.”
SIX CHOICES.
► LOVE OR LUST   ➭  “Shocking as it’s gonna sound, coming from me... Lust, even at its most intense, can only ever be temporary. But love, if it’s real and handled right, lasts a lifetime and beyond. You tell me which one’s the better deal.” ► LEMONADE OR ICED TEA   ➭  “If I’m drinking tea, I want it hot. Gimme a lemonade to cool down, any day.” ► CATS OR DOGS   ➭  “Cats. There’s just no debate on this shit. And if you even start to utter ‘but they don’t love you like dogs do,’ I’m going to suplex you. You’re just an idiot who doesn’t know how cats work, okay?” ► A FEW BEST FRIENDS OR MANY REGULAR FRIENDS   ➭  “I mean, I’m kind of a social butterfly. Not about to put a cap on friendship. But when it comes down to it... well, the best supporting casts focus on quality over quantity, don’t they?” ► WILD NIGHT OUT OR ROMANTIC NIGHT IN   ➭  “A year or two back, I would’ve told you ‘wild night out’ with zero hesitation. And I still love ‘em. But... c’mon. Of course, I’m hooked onto romantic nights in.” ► DAY OR NIGHT   ➭  “Speak of the devil... Night. It’s just a world of aesthetic, okay? It’s where the real fun happens!”
FOUR HAVE YOU EVERS.
► BEEN CAUGHT SNEAKING OUT   ➭  “Nah. Either the people I was with didn’t care to catch me, or they couldn’t.” ► FALLEN DOWN/UP THE STAIRS   ➭  “Hasn’t everybody? Er, minus everybody who can fly.” ► WANTED SOMETHING/SOMEONE SO BADLY IT HURT?   ➭  “Story of my life...” ► WANTED TO DISAPPEAR   ➭  “... Story of my life. Up until recently, I mean!”
FOUR PREFERENCES.
► SMILE OR EYES   ➭  “Gotta go with the window to the soul, even if a good smile from you-know-who... fucking magical.” ► SHORTER OR TALLER   ➭  "Rosa makes fun of my height, and I wish she was shorter because of it.” He’s lying.  ► INTELLIGENCE OR ATTRACTION   ➭  “I shoot for relatability, above all else. And more often than not, I don’t think I’m an intelligent guy. Attraction, easy.” ► HOOK-UP OR RELATIONSHIP   ➭  “Getting a bonafide love interest was the biggest item on the bucket list since I could write a bucket list.”
FAMILY.
► DO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GET ALONG ➭  “Whew... That’s, uh... Well, Henry’s officially dead to me, and he’s gonna be literally dead, if he ever shows his face here, again. But then there’s Jeane. We’re... we’re working things out, after everything. So, I don’t really know what to tell you.” ► WOULD YOU SAY YOU HAVE A “MESSED UP LIFE”   ➭  “Oh, good, an easy one. Yes. I could also laugh hysterically at the massive understatement.” ► HAVE YOU EVER RAN AWAY FROM HOME   ➭  “After Jeane murdered my parents, I never even looked at that house, again. Not like it’d ever really felt like home, to begin with.” ► HAVE YOU EVER GOTTEN KICKED OUT ➭  “You’d be surprised.”
FRIENDS.
► DO YOU SECRETLY HATE ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS   ➭  “The hell kinda question is that? If I hated one of my friends, they wouldn’t fucking be one of my friends. Hell, they probably wouldn’t be alive for much longer!” ► DO YOU CONSIDER ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS GOOD FRIENDS   ➭  “Yup, even if it’s a one-way street. After the life I’ve had, I learned to grab hold of the people I get.” ► WHO IS YOUR BEST FRIEND   ➭  “Rosa, obviously. Close second - or first, if we’re keeping things strictly platonic - is a tie between Marceline and Peridot.” ► WHO KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU   ➭  “...” Travis suddenly looks guilty. “Strictly speaking... no one. There’s just something I feel I gotta keep to myself. Literally everything else is fair game, but... I can’t have the people I love knowing how I truly see the world — or rather, worlds — around me. Trust me, it’s better that you don’t ask further. This interview’s over.”
My reactions to the FFVII characters so far:
First impressions:
Cloud: Oooohh so edgy. how lame. lemme guess your really disinterested in everything and your dry as the sand Anakin Skywalker dislikes? I bet your also somehow adored by the female characters for no reason. Pfffffft, lame.
Tifa: I like her immediately.
Nanaki: Doggo! oh wait why is he looking at Aerith like that? wait wait wait NO DOGGO NO!
Yuffie: Watches a lot of Naruto.
Aerith: I know your gonna die later cuz everybody spoiled that exact part of this game for me so I'm gonna NEVER have you in my party and never allow myself to get attached so when the time comes it wont bother me too much. We'll see how successful that plan is...
Cid: Fuck you. No really, I have absolutely no patience or empathy for verbally abusive men. Fuck. You.
Vincent: Oh my goodness this boi is really out here dressed like a punk vampire ninja what the fuck lol.
Cait Sith: What do you mean it's not pronounced "Kate Sith"? That cat is obviously a disciple of the Dark Side of the Force who lives in the suburbs.
Barret: ugh. yeah I get it dude, your really angry all the time. next.
Sephiroth: DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN WEEwooWEEwooWEEwooWEEwoo DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN *chorus* SEPHIROTH! dundundunduuuun!! SEPHIROTH! dundundunduuuun!!!
Two things, thing one, badass song. thing two, your sword looks stupid.
Rude: I wanna rub your bald head.
Hojo: stinky garbage man. eats garbage off the floor and picks his nose too much.
Current thoughts, much later into the story:
Cloud:
Oh my gosh you poor soul. Holy shit dude I'm so sorry i didnt know. are you ok?? 😥
Seriously go hug Tifa if you need to, that girl LOVES you man
Your a good egg after all ^_^
Tifa:
I fucking love this girl holy shit. BEST girl. BEST character, period. Shes so wonderful and kind and caring and supportive and OH MY FUCK DID SHE JUST SUPLEX A DRAGON!?!?? SHE LITERALLY TURNS INTO ONE PUNCH MAN IN HER FINAL LIMIT BREAK
SHES SO STRONG HOLY SHIT
MY QUEEN
Nanaki:
A good boy. Deserves all the scooby snacks.
Cid:
I renamed him "Jackass" and never use him.
Cait Sith:
Little wierd now, not becuase of the whole traitor thing, no, because of the fact that apperently your just some dude behind a monitor somewhere, probably in your boxers. Your literally the FBI agent meme. Stop watching my internet activity. I'll look up all the Cloud x Don Corneo porn I want AND YOU CANT STOP ME
Yuffie:
Look girl I like having you on my team but if you pull that shit again I will feed you to Emerald Weapon like a dolphin treat.
Aerith:
Mission Success. I didnt give one single fuck about her. I blame you internet. Just cant stop spoiling stories huh?
Vincent:
Cant add too much rn, he hasn't had much development since I got him, and i hear he wont get more story until I'm further in, so we'll see.
ol' Attack on Twilight lookin ass boi...
Rude:
You like Tifa? Mood.
now get over here so I can rub my face on your smooth dome. stop running away Rude. come... COME OVER HERE SO I CAN RU-
Hojo:
please tell me we kill this guy later? hes so creepy wtf.
Barret:
ok so he gets better. still think he looks silly when he uses magic lol.
Sephiroth:
I dont know how you managed to do it, but you somehow have a sword that looks even more stupid and impractical than Cloud's sword. It's so stupid. at least his sword looked like it was good for fighting huge monsters, yours is just, so, cartoonishly long. ot looks like something Wile E. Coyote would use. Cool song tho.
that's all 4 now
might update later...
Lmao I was gonna make another overly optimistic Keith-centric bingo for s8 but I can’t think of enough things to fill it that weren’t answered by the beauty of s6. Obviously I want a happy ending for Keith and Shiro, especially if they’re able to make it an open-ended sheith ending, but that’s shipper me who fell in love with devotion and support talking.
ANYWAY, S8 THEORIES/PREDICTIONS + HOPES AND DREAMS
-Honerva’s motivations, the Alteans, and Allura. It was love of a tragic kind that jump-started this whole war. Is she trying to rewrite the past so Voltron was never a thing and her husband and son would still be alive? Had the comet never struck Daibazaal, she wouldn’t have met and fallen in love with Zarkon. But it’s also the overexposure to quintessence and her desire for knowledge that led the rift creatures to invade and necessitating Voltron being built. In the trailers it doesn’t seem like she regrets what she’s done. Rather, it seems she’s still going down the same path now that she has nothing left to lose. She’s more aware of herself now as Honerva rather than Haggar, and is essentially the empress of all Alteans and Galrans, but is she still under the influence of the Rift? “You cannot stop what is coming.” What is she planning? Is she actually trying to save the universe in her own dark way by sacrificing many to stop a larger threat? I can’t see her just trying to end the universe for the heck of it. Since the Alteans see her as their empress, how will that impact Allura as the princess of Altea? They are her people, but they only know Honerva. Why trust some unknown princess who killed their ~savior~ Lotor? If Honerva dies will the Alteans look to Allura to lead them? Would Allura even want to lead them now that she has essentially ‘set aside her crown’ to save a friend? I guess they could always make a New Altea country on Earth somehow. Will there be any redemption for Honerva? Maybe by reuniting with Zarkon in the afterlife? Or is she as irredeemable as Lotor? (Maybe they’ll both be redeemed in their own way.) Honestly I have no idea how they’re gonna stop Honerva even though I know they will somehow. -Self-sacrificing natures, Keith, and Allura. Lol I have no doubt that if Keith dies they’ll be able to save him somehow thanks to protagonist armor, but I still fear for the boy. I’m worried Honerva might target him for getting in the way of her plans (saving Shiro, revealing Lotor’s secrets, stalling Naxzela) either by eliminating him outright or kidnapping him to make use of any latent abilities with quintessence he has. KEITH UNKNOWINGLY INITIATES THIRD IMPACT WHILE UNDER ONE OF HONERVA’S SPELLS As for Allura, honestly I can see her ascending to a higher existence as the Lion Goddess much as that would hurt. I’d like to see her and Lance create a new future together. [The Lion Goddess] was a mere legend to the Arusians, but there may be a grain of truth to that... The Lions created themselves after all, and not even Alfor knew what they were capable of.  In the trailer, Allura mentioned saving all of existence. She healed an entire Balmera nearly at the cost of her life, she was able to transfer a soul, and essentially built the Sincline with Lotor’s input. Allura is amazing, kind and a powerful alchemist in her own right. Maybe there’s a universal decline in quintessence that is destabilizing time and space? Zarkon’s empire did suck up a huge ton of quintessence over the years to use for their war. That’d make sense.  I’m guessing the remaining Balmeras will create a massive crystal the size of the Daibazaal comet and Allura will use that crystal to close all rifts in every reality so that something something stability will occur at the cost of her life? She’ll become one with the White Lion and ascend as the Lion Goddess to watch over the universe. Lance will be forever protected by a goddess a la Madoka. Maybe if the Alteans/Honerva come to their senses, they’ll help ease the pressure off of her so Allura will survive the process........ Idk. I’m just hoping for a bookend Allurance scene where Allura falls out of a pod and into Lance’s arms, her first word being Lance’s name. That’d be some cute shit. -Honerva and the past. Oh man I am so excited to see more of Honerva’s memories!!!!!!!!!!! It’d be cool if the younger Sendak was like Zarkon’s light-hearted loyal retainer before he became the Emperor. Maybe they grew apart once Zarkon started doing hero activities with the original paladins and after Zarkon’s zombiefication he sought him out to save him before getting corrupted by quintessence himself /fanfic I wanna see Lotor growing up! More Dayak would be cute. I wonder if we’ll see any more emotions from Honerva while she remembers... Will she send out Lost Cat flyers to find Kova lmao. Plus, more original Paladins! If they come back to help the new Paladins in spirit...? Oh man.......that’d be so cool. Zarkon shows up in Black, purified, asking Keith to save his wife... Alfor in Red, meeting Lance, his future son-in-law, and helping him rescue his daughter while she’s saving the universe with her magic? Allura seeing the two most important men in her life when she thought she’d never see them again? Fuck yeah. Mmm other three original paladins showing up won’t have as much emotional investment but still. -Lotor’s generals. Are Ezor and Zethrid dead? Likely. Their pirate crew was pretty funny though.  I’d like to think they survived and are on the down-low somewhere. I wonder when they and Acxa split up and why. I doubt we’ll learn how they all met, but I really want to know how Lotor befriended them all. Give me that backstory!!! Like, before he went all ‘destroy all Galra’ it really felt like he was fond of them........ Then of course Narti happened thanks mom . Acxa was his most loyal supporter and I want to find out more about their relationship. Was it similar to the way Shiro befriended Keith? He accepted her for who she was? Maybe. I don’t believe they’re going for a relationship between Keith and Acxa as s7 led people to think. Ngl, the graveyard scene did make me go ??? though. I low-key think they’d make very cute babies, but my heart ships sheith too much. Those two are similar in their mannerisms, loyalty, and sense of honor. A couple seasons back I even thought she was this reality’s version of Keith and Keith was someone from an alternate reality brought into this one but lmao nope. I think I’m right in saying that Lotor is what Keith could’ve become had he not met Shiro. Those two are foils. Half-Galran, isolated, a rough childhood, difficulty trusting others, strong leaders in their own right. Acxa likely admired Lotor and believed in his ideals. She wanted to see the future Lotor envisioned come to life, likely because Lotor and the Generals only had each other. But, somewhere along the way, Lotor stopped being who she thought he was. It’s now Keith who embodies her ideals for a peaceful future. Perhaps she initially wants to fight by his side as like, a bodyguard or something. I can see them having a mutual understanding of each other. Maybe she’ll try to convince him to become an emperor candidate at the next Kral Zera but Keith declines. .........ACTUALLY MAYBE HE ACCEPTS, BUT WHILE FIGHTING AT THE KRAL ZERA IT’S HONERVA WHO LIGHTS THE FIRE AND BECOMES EMPRESS INSTEAD-- Maybe. I see her as like...someone similar to Keith. Both loyal to one man until circumstances changed and they had to reevaluate themselves and what’s important to them. Keith remained steadfastly loyal to Shiro, healed his emotional wounds thanks to the two years with his mom, and emerged as a strong and effective leader. Acxa I feel, has been inspired by Keith but still needs to find her feet. She’d be a great Blade operative and may even quickly rise in the ranks. I could also see her working in the field as an intelligence agent. Whatever the case, she’s cool and I hope she finds her place in the universe. If the posters are anything to go by, I hope she finds a new friend in Veronica. -Quintessence-sensitive Keith. Yo. I am so invested in this theory. I’ll make more guesses in a later post though. -Shiro and Keith. Alright, I’m gonna tinhat. Dreamworks would never allow a straight-up kiss between two men, but an implied one would be amazing. Krolia knows, as does Allura. Hell, even Kolivan knows how close they are (‘quit fucking ruining the mission for your boyfriend Keith’ ‘Excuse me I have done no such thing’). The two of them wearing rings in the background somewhere? I would die happy. Zaggar’s parallels with Sheith... “A love that started the war and the love that ends it” would be...amazing. There’s so many things I’d like to see.......   -the two of them fighting back to back   -another hug, another shoulder touch   -Keith thrown into the past to meet a younger hospitalized Shiro and encouraging him to follow his dreams   -Shiro rushing out of the Atlas to cradle Keith’s still body   -Shiro bringing Keith back to life with his tears (lmao)   -an ending where they race in the desert at sunset like old times   -Keith and Shiro move into the shack together   -the two of them holding hands.....   -Shiro bringing Keith’s left hand to his lips and kissing him where a wedding ring would go and whispering “I love you too”    God, just. Open-ended Sheith. Lemme dream.
