mini headcanon:

Bruce is STEM-minded. Dick does well enough in school to get by and prefers STEM, much like Bruce.

Then Jason.

Jason loves books. He loves history. Jason is as humanities-oriented as you can get in a kid. Even after he dies, his love of literature doesn't. When Dick needs to relax, he's in the gym flipping and jumping. Jason's in the garden reading.

Jason had been with Bruce for several years after adoption when he had his first public breakdown. He was at the dining table, staring at a big red F on his math exam. And he cried.

Bruce knew Jason had an inferiority complex, but to see it laid out so openly was heart-wrenching.

Tearfully, a sad Jason held up the paper and whispered, "I did my best. Dick said this class was easy. How come when you're good at English, it's only okay? How come you need to be good at math to be smart?"

And Bruce couldn't bring himself to answer.

He wanted to help Jason with math, but he was busy and Dick was busy, so Jason grit his teeth and figured it out on his own. (He barely got a C in the class.)

Later, after the resurrection, Jason is hanging around the manor when Tim rushes inside. His lip is quivering and an essay marked with a bright 63% is clutched in his hand. Instead of lording it over Tim that this one thing came easy to him, Jason sits next to him.

Jason accepts he's the English person in a room full of math geniuses. He talks Tim through the essay because he needed someone to talk him through his own school struggles.

Jason makes the decision to help his brother and Tim manages an A in the class.

And Jason is happy for him. Jason is happy for Tim in his successes and failures. He's there when Tim wins a math award, and there when Tim needs help with an essay.

Jason figured he'd be there since no one was there for him.

Okay... I never called myself a Super Serious Batfamily fan. I read what I want and pick things I like from canon and fanon like strawberries. So maybe I just don't have enough information or dedication.

But.

I really, really don't understand why liking one character necessitates hating another? I'm primarily a Tim Drake stan, but Jason Todd is my babygirl too. Damian is a sweetheart and doesn't deserve a bunch of the crap the Tim Drake fandom gives him. Dick isn't perfect either. Tim has made many mistakes. Steph has. Bruce has. Almost everyone has (I feel like Cass and Alfred might be exempt but I don't know lol) and I really hate that there's this attitude of "Batfam member vs Batfam member".

Like, welcome to having siblings. My brother could absolutely say the meanest thing he's ever said to me, and I'll give him crap but I'll sit next to him at dinner.

I don't know, and I know there are such things as AUs where a sibling is more intense than other universes, and vice versa, and I fully utilize my ability to move on from a fic if I don't like it, but I just hate the character bashing that seems to take some parts of the fandom by storm.

It makes me sad, ok? 😭😂

I think more media should work with the concept that you can still love someone you never forgave. You can still rebuild and create a new relationship with someone but also be "what you did to me was wrong and I trust you to not be like that again and want you in my life but I can't won't forgive that, won't forget the hurt you caused. I love you but there will be days I won't be able to see you because the trauma you gave me is back and I'm just so angry and sad and at least you never asked for forgiviness just to be here, just for friendship, because you know that this are things I can give you."

I have a head cannon that sometimes JJ kinda takes over every once in a while and Jason is the only one who can talk to Tim without him freaking out because all Tim can process in those moments is the voice and face of his Robin, his hero, who’s there to protect him. That’s very lightly digging into the depths of these head cannons but I don’t have enough time to go super into detail.

heacanon Jay and Tim (CW: Unhealthy eating habits and Child Neglect)

It made sense for Jason to hoard food in Dick's mind. He was a kid from the streets, never knowing when his next meal was. It made sense to Bruce and Alfred who let him keep a stash of snacks and instant meals in his closet.

It made sense to Jason, who was still wrapping his head around being adopted by a literal billionaire. He hoarded food. Even after death and resurrection, he hoarded food.

If Roy were hungry, Jason had a granola bar in his pocket. He could go to any safehouse (his or no) and find a stash of goodies to keep himself going.

It didn't make sense for Tim to hoard food in Dick's mind. He was the child of billionaires, able to get anything he wanted whenever. It didn't make sense in Bruce and Alfred's minds as they cleared out yet another stash from Tim's bedroom.

But.

It made sense to Jason who saw how skittish Tim was in the kitchen. It made sense to Jason who remembered a small kid following him and Bruce around, leaving a small trail of M&Ms in his wake. It made sense to Jason, who broke into the Drake Manor once and found an empty fridge and emptier pantry.

It made sense to Tim, who even with his parent's money, couldn't count on them to remember groceries or provide a next meal. It made sense to Tim, who'd eat himself silly whenever he could, and squirrel away whatever fit in a napkin.

Hoarding food was a survival instinct--one Jason honed on the streets and one Tim honed fancy dinner to fancy dinner.

When Jason saw what Tim did, how he behaved, Jason's heart broke a little. He talked loudly to himself about which utility belt pocket was best for what snack, and where he hid his own food stashes throughout Gotham. He went out of his way to watch cooking videos on the main TV and get (force) Tim to help him make them.

It made sense to Jason to help Tim feel safe because Dick, Alfred, and Bruce had done the same for him.

It just. Made. Sense.

fuck “jason todd and damian wayne meet in the league of assassins” (not actually, i love that trope) i want “tim drake and damian wayne meet in the league of assassins”

imagine, either damian doesn’t go to bruce when he should so damian is still at nanda parbat when ra’s enlists tim and they meet through that OR

and hear me out

ra’s kidnaps tim after finding him stalking batman and robin and brings him back to nanda parbat. from there you could either have him train tim alongside damian, have him be damian’s teacher, or make tim have the utmost respect for damian.

from there you have tim being stuck there for several years and being groomed to be ra’s heir or….something tim eventually escapes and finds his way back to gotham becoming robin after jason dies, still trying to subtly get used to non lethal attacks that were literally beaten into him.

a year, two years, however long passes and now damian is walking into the cave and tim makes eye contact.

and depending on how he was raised, either alongside, above, or under damian you’ve got three options.

a cutesy one where damian tackles him yelling “ahki”. tim looking guilty as he holds damian as close as possible muttering apologies and checking over him to make sure he isn’t hurt. insert batfam being confused and fluff ensuing and tim and damian being the best brothers

a more neutral/angst one where damian stiffens up and prepares for orders because tim is his teacher, his mentor his grandfathers chosen. the others watch tim stiffen too, his entire body language changing, his eyes becoming cold and hard. they listen to tim bark an order in league dialect and watch as damian immediately answers, standing as still as possible. watch as tim stalks forward, confused because who is this? their son, their brother doesn’t move like this. they watch tim walk a circle around damian before he nods, walking forward and cupping damian’s cheek. watch as damian melts, tims eyes softening as he talks gently to him before patting him on the shoulder and turning damian around to introduce him.

or pure angst where when tim makes eye contact with damian, he drops to his knees and bows, muscles tense as if preparing to be hit. tim says something along the lines of “i am so sorry my prince, forgive me, let me serve you” etc in league dialect. depending on how their relationship is, damian can either stalk over to tim and slap him across the face or damian can look disgusted and tell tim to “rise timothy, you are not to call me that any longer.” and then they bond and it’s great.

idk, once again this is probably WILDLY ooc but just….imagine dude. i love tim and damian bonding.

jean-paul and tim fighting in the batcave is what fandom thinks happened between jason and tim

it's so funny to me that fanfiction version of titans tower incident (teen titans 2003 #29) is basically what canonically happened during knightquest the crusade (tec #668 and robin #1)

tim is actually 14 years old so it was a fight between an actual kid and adult instead of two teenagers

tim is beaten up in his safe place by an ally who he used to have positive feelings about (i mean it was tim who broke in and sneaked around the batcave so i don't blame jpv for self-defense!)

tim is annoyed that he worked so hard to become robin only to be shut down by jean-paul and now having to prove himself to him (didn't go well)

Guys! Do you remember the Robins WIP? Well, the illustration complementary to the stickers it is finished!!!

It might look a little bit OoC because Jaybird is cuddling Bats…but what is cannon anyway? This version of the batfam has been to therapy. Thou, there is something that I am very pleased with at the cannon is the improvement on the Robins relationship, specially between Damian, Jayson and Tim. It is so beautiful seeing them support each other, or hug -even if then Dams procedes to electrocute Jason-.

Jason has grown so much too. From trying to kill Tim to be an active member of the family that cares and worries for his siblings ( Q ^Q), or even Bruce…. And after Alfie…I’m sorry, I just enjoy this boys stories so much.
