It had all started about a week ago, with the ghosts talking about how Ramshackle dorm at long last had a new squatter of the undead variety.
They were ecstatic. Cooing about how it had been centuries since they’d last gained such a companion. A young ghost, apparently, who was still getting used to haunting. In fact, they were so bad at it that they even refused to show their face to the prospective hauntee.
Namely, me.
“So when do you think they’ll quit avoiding me? I mean, I do live here after all,” I looked up at Amos, who was currently floating over my head, studying the cards in his hand.
The specter looked down at me, half-startled, before exchanging a look with the other two ghosts, who were politely remaining at the table with their own cards.
“They’ll get there, kid; they're just a little nervous right now,” At long last he looked back down at me, a half-smile on his see-through face that spoke of knowing something that I didn’t.
“Big deal to do your first haunting, ya’ know,” Billy, the more portly of the three apparitions, nodded sagely as he looked back down at his cards.
I crossed my arms, a smile tugging at my lips as I looked at the three ghosts and Grim, sitting around the little table, playing cards of all things. It was homey, in an odd way, but I was used to odd things by now.
Dealing with overblots, living with ghosts, and being janitor at a school for magic was nothing out of the ordinary now. Especially not with how long I'd been in Twisted Wonderland at this point. Graduating from NRC as the lone magicless student changed a person.
“So you guys have been giving them pointers on how to best scare me, right?”
Grim rolled his eyes as all three ghosts began to snicker mischievously at my words, but I just shook my head with a fond sigh. Because that was just how my three undead housemates were. Ever impish, and, at the very least, their strange but loving little pranks kept life interesting.
I turned, starting up the stairs and calling back over my shoulder, “Well, I’m going to call it a night. You four have fun finishing up your game.”
My call was met with a chorus of assents and Grim’s shout that he was DEFINITELY going to beat all three of them this time, despite his impressive losing streak that I opted not to mention simply to avoid the argument that would definitely occur if I said anything.
Even if my friends had graduated and my life had changed to the point where I was no longer a student at NRC but an employee instead, Grim hadn’t changed a bit. I supposed it was part of being whatever he was, and in some ways it was a comfort. An added bit of stability to my quiet life here in Ramshackle Dorm.
I sighed as I entered my room, my mind drifting back to the nostalgic days of being a student and spending my time with my friends and classmates. I didn’t miss the overblots or the drama by any means, but I did miss the guys.
Each of them came to visit every so often and called to check in on me fairly regularly, but they’d all moved on and had lives of their own now. And I was glad. I was proud of each and every one of them for having come so far.
There was sadness to the memories of my school days, but life goes on even if you aren’t ready, and that was something I’d come to accept over the years. Nostalgia came and went, but overall, I was happy with my life.
It was sometimes a little bit lonely when the ghosts and Grim would wander off to do something else, but that was fine too. Nothing I couldn’t handle.
I flicked the lights off as I got ready to climb into bed, half-laughing to myself about how there was a time where I would have been expecting a Mickey-related dream or for a certain fae to show up in the middle of the night.
But now nothing so unexpected would happen.
As soon as I’d had the thought that my life had become fairly humdrum with nothing interesting, the light clicked back on, and I sighed with a smile.
Thinking living in a house with playful ghosts was normal… I really had changed so much since coming to this world.
Smiling all the way, I crossed the room. My hand finding the light switch easily, and cutting the light back off yet again, “Carlyle, not tonight, please. I’m tired and have a bathroom to scrub clean in the morning.”
Strangely, I didn’t hear the slender ghost’s usually wheezy laughter. But as soon as I stepped back towards my bed, the light cut back on immediately.
“Carlyle….” My tone was slightly less playful as I stopped this time, but the ghost once again stayed silent as I cut the light back off. A slight frown on my face this time.
Carlyle wasn’t usually one to stay so silent. He’d normally erupt into snickers the second time I had to cut off the light, at the very least.
I’d hardly even taken three steps when the light cut on again, for the third time, and I stopped.
I eyed the seemingly innocent light switch with a frown before glancing around the room curiously. Nothing was out of place, but….. “Are you the new ghost?”
I was greeted with silence yet again, and I crossed my arms with a slight smile, “You don’t have to be shy; I won’t hurt you.”
Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t. And frankly, the idea of a ghost being scared of me was ridiculous, but I kept those thoughts to myself.
 I wanted to meet this new ghostly housemate, so their being scared of me wouldn’t be for the best anyway.
But the longer I waited, the longer nothing happened, and I frowned. They must have fled when I asked about their identity. Which wasn’t what I’d wanted, but I supposed I couldn’t really force their spectral hand.
I sighed slightly, mumbling to myself as I returned to the light switch once more, “Who would’ve thought I’d have a cowardly ghost….” I cut the light off again, fully prepared to get some sleep before tomorrow came. I could worry about the strange, unnamed apparition later.
I barely made it back to the bed before the light cut back on, causing me to straighten almost immediately in surprise. I quickly relaxed, though, with the realization that I was apparently going to be playing this game for the better part of the night after all.
“I’m not cowardly.”
 I froze at the man’s voice that came from behind me. It had been years since I’d last heard it, but even if it didn’t have that usually drowsy tone, I would never forget that voice. Especially after what had happened… I hadn’t thought I’d ever hear it again.
I slowly turned to see him just standing there, propped up against the door beside the light switch, as if there was nothing out of the ordinary. He looked just like he had that distant day that would probably stay in my memory forever.
His arms were crossed as he looked at me silently from where he stood. It was like nothing had ever happened, and I was back in the past during those early days of school here at NRC.
I sat slowly on my bed, stunned as I stared back at the young man who’d died doing his very best to save everyone, myself included, during one of the very last overblots.
“Silver,” I breathed his name more than said it, and somehow, impossibly, he nodded. Confirming his presence as he uncrossed his arms, one arm slipping back so that his wrist was resting relaxedly on the hilt of his spectral wand, just like it had in life.
 Like nothing had changed.
“You’re…” I trailed off, my mind swirling with too many thoughts for me to ever be able to put them into words as I continued to stare up at him.
“I didn’t show myself to you because I didn’t want to scare you, but…” He paused, glancing around the room, before his eyes came back to me, “Well, I heard you talking downstairs, and it didn’t feel quite right to keep hiding myself.”

Someone New
Summary: Travelling worlds has its side effects; namely, having visions of multiple timelines. As you get closer to the housewardens after their overblots, you begin to see the possible future that awaits the two of you, if only you decide to choose them.
Overblot gang x Reader (Riddle, Leona, Azul, Jamil, Vil, Idia, Malleus)
GN but mentions of biological children - imagine anything you want though (magic spells that make anything possible!)
i. blooms of red and bursts of reason; riddle rosehearts
Even after knowing him for months, you don’t touch Riddle until long after his overblot. He isn’t truly comfortable with you, with anyone, touching him so casually.
The chill of autumn ghosts your skin, making goosebumps rise along your arms. When he notices you rubbing your forearms to gather some warmth, Riddle insists on offering you his coat. Something about ‘rule five hundred and nine.’
His ways don’t always make sense to you, but you appreciate the sentiment behind the action. You take his coat, uttering your gratitude to him, although it’s quite small considering his stature. He offers you a small smile; in Riddle’s case, you know that means a lot.
You can’t help but return his smile, the small affection making your heart stir suddenly. It’s nice - spending time alone with Riddle. At the beginning of the year, you’d never have imagined becoming close with him. It was hard to see past the strict housewarden who never let anything go.
You think he’d made assumptions about you too. About you being a troublemaker, someone not worth his time, just another problem. You’re thankful you’ve both come around.
You stare at him from the corner of your eye as you walk together. He truly is gentle at heart, despite what his temper might suggest. His red hair sits perfectly on his head, cutely framing his face. It makes you think of his mother; his hair is perhaps the only good thing she passed onto him.
You snap out of your thoughts when you step a little too hard into a puddle and accidentally splash your pants, slightly dirtying them. Riddle turns when he hears your grumble, and you prepare yourself for a scolding. You won’t hold it against him; it was your fault for being careless.
Instead, Riddle only shakes his head gently, before asking if you’d like to stop at Ramshackle to change before you two arrive at the library.
Your surprise forces you to take a moment and just look at him. So far he’s come from the person he was only a couple months ago. You feel strangely sentimental, so you reach out to touch his shoulder, intending to thank him.
As soon as you make contact with him, the world around you shifts, brown and orange leaves being traded for the bright green of spring.
-
You sit under a pagoda tree, the wind gently blowing the pages of your novel. It’s strange - you’re seeing things as yourself, but you’re not in control. It’s as though you’re replaying the memory of someone else. At the sound of someone’s voice, ‘you’ look up. It’s there that you spot familiar red hair; it forms a stark contrast to the vegetation around you.
He’s not alone, either. In Riddle’s arms is a small baby, with identical hair to who you presume is his father. It’s a striking image - Riddle with his child. He’s noticeably older; if you had to guess, he seems to be in his late twenties.
“MC? Sorry to bother, but he’s been refusing to eat today. I checked our parenting books thrice, but I haven’t found any suitable solutions. I thought you might know how to help him.”
“That’s okay,” you hear your voice say. “How is our little guy doing?”
Riddle passes the baby to you, and you finally take notice of his other features; this child has the same colour eyes as you, and a similarly shaped nose.
You then catch a glimpse of the ring sparking on your left hand, and the other on Riddle’s.
“Hmm,” you’re vision-self says. “Let’s go back home, I’ll try to see what’s bothering him.”
“Alright, dear. I’ll start on dinner,” older-Riddle replies.
He takes your hand and helps you up, before you walk back toward the house in the distance, your hand still in his.
-
When the greens turn to orange, you blink, finding Riddle looking at you. You’re back at NRC.
“Are you alright, prefect? You seem distracted.”
“I’m okay, Riddle. I just…never mind. Let’s get going.”
You decide not to tell him about your strange…Dream? Vision? It all seemed so real…you could smell the tree sap and feel the breeze flow against your skin. You held a baby. Your baby…with Riddle? The two of you were older, but would it really be possible for it to truly be your future? That seemed ridiculous. Then again, you thought the same thing about magic a few months ago.
You resolve to keep this strange occurrence to yourself until you can figure out what happened. It’s hard to look at Riddle, having now seen the two of you married and with a child together. You’re more flustered than usual. Was this just some kind of daydream projection of your fantasies about him? You weren’t even really sure you could say you have a ‘crush’ on him - after all, you’ve only recently begun getting close. Not that you haven’t thought of him that way at all but-
You’re sure Riddle takes notice of your strange behaviour throughout your study session but, thankfully, he doesn’t comment on it.
ii. dizzying dreams and endless nights; leona kingscholar
You’d fought Leona hard to get where you are now - on the left side of his bed, with Grim sleeping at the base. You’re exhausted with everything going on with Azul (hopefully) temporarily taking your dorm, but it’s hard to sleep with how worried you are about the situation.
Leona’s room is dim, moonlight cascading over the silk sheets. You can barely make out his form, curled up in the blankets and turned away from you.
You don’t want to disturb the sleeping lion, but he happens to be hogging the entire blanket. You suppose you should’ve known, but it wasn’t as though you had time to take anything from Ramshackle.
When the chill becomes too much to ignore, you try to tug part of the blanket away from him. This causes Leona to roll over, arm suddenly falling around your back.
You’re hit with another wave of blurry vision as the moon melts into the sun.
-
“Morning,” you hear a voice, your voice, say to him. Your tone is playful and lightheartedly chastising. You can feel his arms wrapped snuggly around you.
It’s happening again, the same as with Riddle. You’re seeing things from your own eyes, but you’re not in control.
A groan comes from behind you, Leona shuffling his position but refusing to open his eyes. His bare legs brush yours under the covers. “Too early. Go back to sleep.” He pulls you closer into his chest.
‘You’ laugh gently, turning around in his arms so you’re now face to face. “You promised the queen we would attend this banquet. Especially after we missed the last one.”
He looks older here too, but as gorgeous as ever. Despite just waking up, Leona’s dark hair falls perfectly around his face. The room is different than his one at school; it’s still a bedroom, but it looks as though you’re back in the castle of Sunset Savanna.
Leona finally opens his eyes, looking at you with a heavy gaze before flipping you below him. His arms hold him straight above you, looking down on you lying prone on the bed. “Hmph.” He leans in close until your lips are only millimetres apart. “We have some time, don’t we?”
You’re left staring into those piercing green eyes, entranced by them being closer than ever.
With that, he leans in completely, lips brushing over your own as he begins to kiss you. The longer it goes, the more ravenous he becomes, more and more greedy for the taste of your lips.
-
When the sunlight fades to moonlight, you’re left embarrassed. That was - so much worse than with Riddle?! Ugh, it’s so awkward with Leona sleeping beside you now, like you’ve violated some kind of rule by thinking of him that way.
You’re too afraid to even consider the possibility of it being some kind of dream. It came on so suddenly, but you hadn’t been asleep. The whole thing seemed so real, too elaborate for a simple dream. No, it had to be more than that - some kind of vision - but how could that be true? And what did that mean about your vision with Riddle? Surely they couldn’t both be correct.
You’d intended on ignoring it before, but with Leona’s vision, that seemed futile. Perhaps the staff would have some answers for you…
iii. seashells shimmer in the forever sea; azul ashengrotto
Azul isn’t one for touching, and this time neither are you. Ever since the Crowley’s theory about alternate universes and rips in time since you’ve travelled worlds, you’ve decided it’s best to stay away from touching too many people. It was…interesting, to see a possible future with Riddle and Leona, but it’s certainly left you ambivalent. It’s a bit difficult not to avoid them when your mind drifts to your ‘visions’ while in their vicinity.
Riddle is kind enough to ignore your sudden shyness, but Leona has openly called you out on how flustered you get around him. He seems both confused and amused about the development, and his smugness is too much to handle sometimes.
Fortunately for you, Leona doesn’t hang around the Mostro Lounge much, making it the perfect place for you to avoid him. You try to force Ace and Deuce to come with you and study there, but the two have been reluctant considering their previous encounters with the twins while trying to get Azul’s picture.
That means you’re left to go alone, sometimes. Well, alone except for Grim. He never leaves you hanging as long as you agree to buy him food. Just like today, where he sits passed out across the other side of the booth, having eaten himself into a food coma.
You try to return to your homework, but out of the corner of your eye, you catch Azul staring at you from the staff area. When you make eye contact, he only waves, smile dripped in plasticity. When you don’t clue in, he walks toward your table, eventually taking a seat across from you, beside Grim.
“Hello, Prefect,” he says.
“Azul.”
Unlike Riddle - and even to some extent, Leona - you haven’t really gotten close to Azul after his overblot. He doesn’t exactly want you to, it seems.
“I noticed you’ve been frequenting the Lounge quite frequently as of late - I just wanted to thank you, for being a dedicated patron.”
“I’m not doing it for you, but you’re welcome, I guess.”
“Ah yes, I presumed. So, who are you doing it for?”
Your mind snaps to thoughts of you and Leona in the future, his arms around you in his bed-
“Nothing. No one. Do you need something, Azul?”
Despite your attempt at neutrality, Azul must see something on your face as you attempt to rid your mind of your vision of Leona. He leans in a bit, curious to observe you.
You begin packing up your things, too distracted to continue studying.
“No need to leave on my account,” he says.
“It’s not.”
He stands at the same time as you, presumably planning to head back to his office. Unfortunately for the both of you, you hadn’t noticed Grim migrate to his place sleeping on the floor. When you take a step forward and trip, Azul is, tragically, directly in front of you.
Your arms reach out instinctively, but instead of stabilizing yourself by grabbing onto his shoulders, the force of your fall knocks the both of you over.
As soon as you make contact with him, your vision swirls into another world full of beautiful blues.
-
The coral sea is even more breathtaking than you remember. You’ve only been a couple times, but the drastic differences between the land and ocean always manage to stun you. The water is so clear that it practically glitters as you wave your hands through it, feeling the water pass refreshingly across your smooth skin.
You’ve never been to this specific place before (presumably, it doesn’t exist yet), but it’s clear what it is: a restaurant. If the octopus logo has anything to do with it, clearly it’s Azul’s. It wasn’t too surprising to you that he would have more restaurants open in the future, but you weren’t sure what you were doing here. If the pattern followed, it seemed inevitable that you and Azul would be…romantically-involved in this timeline, but that just didn’t seem possible.
At least you had befriended Riddle and Leona to an extent - Azul looked down on your existence as a magicless person, seemingly entirely apathetic about you in general. You had to admit, the feelings were mutual considering his treatment of you and your friends.
You feel ‘yourself’ look around the restaurant, before heading back into the staff area. You knock on the door to an office, and Azul opens it with a smile.
He, too, is older. His face has matured a bit and he also wears his hair a bit longer. Azul still has his grey suit, though.
“Hello, MC. Done for the day?”
“I guess so, boss,” your voice replied cheekily. Boss?? Why would your future self ever work for-
“Hmm, I may have more tasks for you, why don’t you come in~”
With that, future-Azul takes your hand and tugs you into his office. On his desk sits several picture frames; one of his parents and one of his wedding. You happened to spot yourself in the second one.
It’s a bit jarring to see; you and Azul posed together, dressed up in such fancy clothing. His arm sits around your shoulder, and yours around his waist. Before this, the two of you have never even shook hands.
You hear yourself giggling, cornering Azul against the wall as soon as he closes the door and bringing your arms around his neck to kiss him.
You can already feel the dread forming; you definitely won’t be able to spend time at the Mostro Lounge after this…
As the two of you pull away, Azul starts talking about a reunion for your graduating class at NRC.
“I told them maybe - with the new branch of our restaurant opening, we may wish to stay back. Then again, it could be a great opportunity to network for us. What do you think, dear?”
Before you can hear your reply, the world fades back into the familiar lighting of the Mostro Lounge.
-
A groaning Azul is beneath you, having (unfortunately for him) broken your fall.
You utter a quiet ‘sorry!’ as you get off of him, still a bit flustered from your vision.
He gets up, dusting himself off. Thankfully, the two of you are in a rather secluded area of the place, so no one was there to witness your embarrassment.
Azul can no longer maintain the facade of kind gentleman as he turns back to you, voice dripping with passive aggressiveness.
“I would prefer if you refrained from touching me in the future. Thank you.”
With that, he gets up and leaves. You shake your head - how could there possibly be any timeline where you’ve married him?
iv. jaded jewels shine, awaken from slumber; jamil viper
While helping out with the VDC, you’ve had time to get close to Jamil. Much closer, in fact, than with any of the others you’ve had visions of before. Now you’ve avoided touching him for a whole other reason - you’re scared you won’t have a vision.
Spending time with Jamil has made you realize things you’d never thought about him before - his handsomeness, intelligence, and talent. You’ve developed a bit of a crush on him, considering how much you admire him.
However, you have no idea how he feels. Jamil has never been one to express his feelings so outwardly, but you can’t get a read on him at all. He’s been polite with you, but he’s treated you basically the same as everyone else.
Your attempts at getting closer to him have been rather unsuccessful - the group is so busy practicing, everyone’s been way too exhausted to really do anything.
You manage to get a moment alone at Ramshackle when the rest of the boys have gone to sleep, and you find Jamil sitting out on the porch alone.
“Hey,” you say. “Mind if I join you?”
Jamil turns to look at you before nodding his head. You take a seat beside him, following his gaze to the stars. The sky is dark but the moon casts a glow on him, making Jamil look beautiful under the light.
“What are you thinking about?”
He hums for a moment before replying, “What I’m always thinking about - how things will just go back to normal again after the end of the VDC.”
You don’t really know what to say; his fears seem inevitable, no matter how much you want to comfort him. “I’m sorry…I can’t understand what it’s like for you, but…what if you could still have some kind of happiness in your life?”
“Like what?”
“I don’t know…you could still find love?”
“Find love? You think that’s what I care about?” Jamil’s tone is bitter, but his voice never rises. “Sorry, but you’re awfully naive. Things like love won’t make my life better. It’ll only complicate things.”
“I-I understand.”
When your voice shakes, Jamil finally looks up at you, sighing when he spots your watery eyes.
“Prefect, relax. I’m not angry at you. It’s just a frustrating situation for me, I’m sure you know. I don’t have time to think about love. I just need to focus on myself.”
With that, he pats your shoulder before standing up, leaving you alone to stare at the night sky. Jamil hadn’t even realized you were trying to confess to him, and you felt terrible for even trying to bring it up. Of course he wouldn’t be able to think about something like your stupid little crush - you feel so silly for even bringing it up, you should’ve known better since you know all about his circumstances.
It was then you realized - Jamil had touched you for the first time. He touched you and nothing happened.
The first one you’d been seriously interested in, and there seemed to be no future for the two of you.
Was it possible you’d already messed up this timeline, making it impossible for that future with him to occur? The whole thing made your head spin and your heart ache.
v. swept into spotlights, doused in delicacy; vil schoenheit
Vil had been a surprising comfort in the wake of your unrequited crush on Jamil. The two of you had gotten closer after VDC, and Vil had a way of pulling honesty out of you. It had only taken him a couple days of observing your awkwardness to guess at the situation.
He’d been a shoulder to cry on, both literally and figuratively. There’d been a moment when he first pulled you into his arms that you’d wondered - hoped - that he might be a possibility in your future, but alas, no vision. It was a bit disappointing but you knew it was wrong to feel too badly; it would be greedy of you to desire a connection with so many knowing you could only end up with one.
Vil became a friend - someone you could rely on, someone who could make you laugh, and someone who couldn’t break your heart.
Even when you would start to feel something more than platonic for him, you had to push it away. He was certainly gorgeous and talented and perfect…but he wouldn’t be that for you. He couldn’t, apparently, and maybe he wouldn’t want to either.
Vil was more than just a fellow student - he was an actor, a model, a celebrity - someone too far to reach. Even if you had a vision with him, would it matter?
You’re snapped out of your thoughts by Vil’s hand on your cheek, turning your face to get the correct angle to apply your eyeliner; he’d insisted you get dressed up with him and Rook to go out tonight.
“Move onto the bed,” Vil says.
You stand from the chair in front of his vanity and move hesitantly toward his bed. His silky sheets look perfect - you don’t want to ruin them. Looking back at him, Vil rolls his eyes and gently pushes you toward the bed until you lay back.
You’re left staring up at him on your back, while he sits above you, applying the rest of his products on your face. He’s so close to you, his luscious golden hair almost tickles your face. His pretty purple eyes don’t focus on your own, following his makeup brush.
He looks cute like this, concentrating hard to perfect your makeup. He bites his lip gently, drawing your attention to his pretty mouth, shining with the pink gloss he’d applied earlier.
When he leans away to pick up the blush, you mistakenly think he’s finished and try to sit up. At the same time that you rise, Vil turns back to face you. The timing coincides into an accidental and brief meeting of your lips.
It takes a second for you to realize that the dizziness your feel isn’t due to your racing heart, but the sudden appearance of another vision.
-
The lights flash, bright and blinding. The sharp clicks of cameras obnoxiously disrupt the music heard softly on the street from nearby restaurants and clubs.
You’re rushing away with Vil, hand in hand as he pulls you toward a black limo waiting up ahead. You nearly stumble, but Vil is quick to stabilize you.
Once the two of you escape the paparazzi, you’re left sitting side by side in the backseat of the limo, both breathing heavily. Vil gives the driver instructions to return back to his penthouse.
He turns to you. “Are you okay, darling?”
You feel yourself nod in affirmation, taking ahold of his hand again. He squeezes back.
“I’m sorry they’ve ruined another date. I know it’s hard for you not to have much privacy, but it seems no matter what I do, they find us.” He strokes your hand with his thumb.
“It’s okay, Vil. I knew what I was getting into, dating a celebrity and all that.”
He plants a kiss on your cheek. “Still, they shouldn’t bother us. I may be a celebrity, but you aren’t. You deserve privacy.” He sighs gently. “Has this…impacted our previous discussion?”
You look back up at him. You assume based on past visions that he’s much older now, but he’s kept his youthful and gorgeous look. Even now, his purple eyes make your heart flutter embarrassingly.
“Of course not. I want us to have kids together. You’ll be the best dad and protect them from all this. I know it.”
He kisses you on the lips this time just as your vision begins to end.
-
Vil snaps his fingers over you as you come too, rolling his eyes.
“I know my lips are practically intoxicating, but did you really get that worked up over an accidental peck between friends?”
Your face becomes hot at Vil’s statement, embarrassment setting in. He doesn’t know how right he is.
“Ah, sorry. I got…distracted.”
Vil laughs gently. “Why? Thinking of more of my kisses? They’ll cost you~”
When you stammer in response, he just ruffles your hair gently.
“I’m just teasing you.”
You stare at him for a moment before speaking. “I don’t think we can do each other’s makeup platonically anymore.” If it ever was, that is.
Vil rolls his eyes dramatically again.
vi. hidden in shadows, warmth comes in waves; idia shroud
The incident with Vil leaves you even more confused than before. It makes you wonder…if just touching isn’t always enough to have a vision, does that mean a future where you end up with Jamil is still possible? You don’t even want to hope, knowing the heartache he’d unknowingly caused you before.
And Vil…having a vision about him makes this complicated. When it was just lingering thoughts you could push to the side of your mind, your growing infatuation with him was easy to ignore. Actually seeing your future with him, has made your heart swell and ache at the same time.
You don’t exactly choose to become friends with Idia, it just kind of happens. Just like the previous situations where you’d attempted to avoid the star of your latest vision, Idia is someone who seems like a good choice to help you stay away from them. He isn’t good friends with Jamil or Vil (or frankly anyone). Incidentally, the two of you become friends after a small argument over an anime (the only topic that allows Idia to temporarily overcome his social anxiety just to disagree with you), and you begin to hang out occasionally.
The more your old friends hang out with the VDC group, the more you begin to make excuses and go play video games with Idia and Ortho.
It feels strangely easy, spending time with Idia. You never have to pretend, and with your shared interests, conversation comes naturally. Once you’ve spent enough time around him, he feels much more comfortable around you, willing to share his (strong) thoughts and opinions on everything.
Idia is very…different than you would’ve guessed before you knew him well. While he can be rude, you find it more funny than offensive, and it’s pretty fun to banter with him. His room holds small glimpses into his true personality; video games he loves, posters of his favourite characters. His passion for these things is clear as day.
Sitting on Idia’s couch, you’re playing against him and Ortho in Super Smash Bros. Ortho immediately claimed Kirby, proceeding to destroy the both of you multiple times until he emerged as the winner.
Despite the loss, both you and Idia can’t help but smile. Ortho makes a celebratory noise, before turning back to you.
“MC, we are about to encounter another rip in the time continuum,” Ortho says. “I’m so excited, do you think it will finally be my big brother’s turn to earn your love?”
“What?” you and Idia say for different reasons.
“How do you know about that?
“Earn their love??”
“It’s part of my programming to monitor all things involving space and time.”
“Huh. Okay.”
You suppose it’s true, you’ve never really touched Idia before. The two of you got along like best friends; it wasn’t so much of a stretch to say you could end up having a future together. You hadn’t thought about it much, in light of recent events.
“Usually you’re the only one able to see, but since Idia’s here, why don’t I show him too!”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Ortho,” Idia says.
“I think it will be good for you, brother! Don’t worry, I’ll give the both of you some privacy to see your future. It’s approaching in three, two-”
When his countdown reaches one, Ortho plops your hand on top of Idia, making your vision fade once again.
-
The Island of Woe is familiar to you by now, after everything that went down with Idia. The architecture remains impersonal; the uniformity of the blank steel walls reminds you of a maze. The thought had unsettled you, the last time you visited.
Strangely enough, you don’t feel that same sense of anxiety and claustrophobia in this vision. You’re strangely calm; it wouldn’t be crazy to assume that exposure and familiarity has dulled these feelings.
The scene is devastatingly unsurprising. You suppose you’d always known what Idia’s future would be; what all his ancestors futures had been. That hadn’t lessened the spark of hope you’d been carrying that perhaps things might turn out differently than he believed.
You had a bad habit of that: false hope for Jamil, false hope for Idia. It didn’t truly do anyone any good, no matter how much you wished it to.
You’re in Idia’s room. Aside from its size and how nice it is, the decor is a clear giveaway. The posters that line the walls aren’t from media you recognize, so it must be future content, but it’s all in line with Idia’s current tastes. You’re happy he has that, at least. You even catch a glimpse of a couple of his old posters from NRC rolled up in his closet. A few pieces even stand out, things that seem much more suited to your taste than his own.
A familiar head of blue hair wanders into the room.
“Hey MC.”
“Hi Idia,” you feel your lips gently pull up in the corners. Despite ‘your’ outward expression in the vision, you feel a small twinge of pain in your chest.
Idia’s entrance into his room (your room?) lets you take a close look at him. Even ten or so years later, it seems he hasn’t been able to rid himself of his eye bags. Even so, you still think he looks nice, his vibrant hair illuminating his pretty face. He’s cute, smiling back at you.
“Sorry I’m back late again. There’s been so many problems with the new system update, even Ortho can’t handle it himself.” Idia’s expression drops a little.
“It’s okay, I know you’re busy.”
Idia comes to sit beside you on the bed, head turning toward you. “Is it though? Stuck down here with me, and I can’t even be by your side half the time. I doubt this is the life you- anyone would dream of.”
“I miss you, of course I do. But I chose this life. I chose you.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t have.”
The tears well in your eyes before you can stop them, and Idia’s panic only rises once he notices.
“Gah!! No, MC, please don’t cry. I didn’t mean it like that. Sevens, I’m so stupid.” Idia awkwardly pulls you into his arms, and you begin wipe your tears onto his shoulder as you settle down.
“Sorry, I-I don’t know what came over me,” you sniffle.
“Don’t apologize, it was my fault. I don’t know why, every time I try to tell you how I feel, it always just comes out wrong. I try to tell you that I love you, that you deserve better than to be stuck here with me, and it comes out like that.”
“Idia…I know what you meant, it just took me by surprise to hear those words.”
“Loving you is supposed to be the one thing I can do to make your life here better, and I can’t even do it right.”
“Says who? Don’t you think I should be the judge of that?”
“I made you cry, MC! Something is wrong with me…”Idia’s cheeks flush pink as he stares at his feet.
You want to comfort him, to tell him that it doesn’t matter, but you quickly feel yourself being pulled away. You’ve never wished more than to have a few more moments in a vision.
-
The room remains silent for a minute after the vision ends, the both of you trying to process what had happened.
“Idia…” you say, trying to bridge the gap between you, but not exactly knowing how.
“Maybe- I uh - maybe you should leave?” Idia says sheepishly.
“Leave? What did I do?” you say, feeling a bit hurt by his suddenly rejection.
“Nothing! I just- I’m sorry, I need some time. I can’t speak right now, I need to be alone.” Idia is clearly panicked, so you follow his brother to the exit.
“Sorry, MC,” Ortho says, opening the door for you. “Sometimes Idia gets overwhelmed in situations like this. Please, give him time and…please don’t give up on him like everyone else does.”
vii. sun and moon, forever in orbit; malleus draconia
You’ve known Malleus as long as you’ve known Riddle, but despite your blooming friendship, you’ve never had the chance to touch him before. The fae always seemed to prefer to keep his distance when visiting you at Ramshackle; close enough to talk, too far to touch.
That all changes when you finally agree to join the gargoyle studies club. It’s not as though you’d purposefully avoided it before, there’d just always been too much going on to really think about joining any of the clubs.
With Idia shutting you out, you were in dire need of a new hobby that would allow you to finally avoid thinking about what had gone down with him in the days before.
When Malleus finally strolls by Ramshackle again, you’re able to inform him of your intention to join his club.
It’s a remarkable thing, having stunned the fae prince into momentary silence at your request. He furrows his brow before replying.
“I do hope you aren’t making a joke at my expense, prefect. That would be rather cruel of you.”
You wave away his words, telling him that you’re entirely serious. He looks you up and down for a moment before a playful grin pulls at his lips.
“I suppose I will see you in our meeting on thursday, then. Please, don’t be late. We have much to see.”
-
Weekly meetings become bi-weekly, and soon you’re meeting up with Malleus almost daily. Since it’s only the two of you in the club, you take certain liberties when it comes to subject matter. You agree to let Malleus show you some ruins and he, in turn, agrees to watch the bachelor with you.
You don’t even like the show, but Malleus’ reactions are the real entertainment. He’s surprisingly sassy and opinionated about all the drama, although he tends to get confused on ‘human customs’ as he so puts it.
“Why won’t he make a choice? It’s clear who he truly desires,” Malleus asks one day, sitting on Ramshackle’s beat up couch as you watch the reality show together on your laptop.
“I don’t know, the guys on this show are always like this. They want to keep around as many options as possible until they’re forced to choose,” you mumble, mouth full of popcorn.
“Human men are fickle.”
You laugh. “Fae aren’t?”
He takes a moment to answer. “Some. Not dragon fae. Once we choose a person to love, we give everything to them, and expect the same in return.”
You don’t know how to reply to that, so you turn back to the screen. Throughout the rest of the episode, you can feel Malleus’ gaze flicker between yourself and the show, not fully invested like you are.
-
You’re not oblivious to his hints. It’s clear that things between you are become more than friendly, but it’s difficult to know how you feel about it.
On one hand, Malleus has always felt strangely charming to you, despite how he often came off to others. There was something about him, or perhaps just the sum of his parts that came together perfectly to make him into a wonderful being.
Spending time together and getting close felt nice, but you were far too used to this pattern to not feel worried about some kind of impending doom. It seemed every time you had a nice friendship, things would fall apart as soon as you found out about your future together.
Even when pleasant, the strangeness of the experience makes it uncomfortable to be around them again. You’ve felt bad avoiding your friends, but there isn’t much you can do to change your feelings.
Even worse - what if your vision with Malleus isn’t positive? After what you saw with Idia, the fear lingers in your mind.
Once you opened the gate, questions begun to flood your brain. What would a future be like with Malleus? Would that even be possible? Would you be his consort? Would a relationship between a human and fae be accepted? Would you be able to handle it? The anxieties were endless.
You think about telling him about everything. About Riddle, Leona…but how would he react? You tell yourself that it’s better if he doesn’t know. At least not until after.
He’s the first one you touch on purpose; you have to know.
A casual stroll around Ramshackle leads to the purposeful brushing of fingers, and you’re pulled into a familiar haze.
-
You’ve never been to Briar Valley, but you know with certainty that your vision takes place there.
The hall you sit in is long, gold trims running along the walls. The black dragon heraldry mounted above the fireplace at the end of the room looks more expensive than anything you’ve seen in your life.
Two wide doors swing open, and Malleus finally enters the room. He isn’t alone.
A small black shape zooms past his legs, plopping itself in front of you.
“Daddy and I picked you flowers from the garden!”
The blur isn’t some shadow, but instead a small child. Five or six, if you had to guess. If her words didn’t give away her parentage, the small, stubby horns peaking out from the top of her head of dark hair certainly told you this was Malleus’ daughter.
“Thank you, sweetie.” You smile at her, taking the flowers she drops in your hand. There’s still some dirt and roots attached, but she’s so adorable, you truly don’t mind.
“Can Uncle Silver take me horseback ridding today?” she asks you. “Daddy said it’s okay with him if it’s okay with you.” She blinks at you sweetly.
“Alright, I suppose. Just be careful, dear,” you reply.
“I have the best parents in all the kingdoms!” she shouted, running along to her chambers to get ready, leaving only you in Malleus in the room.
“She’s so lively today,” you comment, looking up at him.
“Indeed,” he replies, coming to rest beside you. “You look beautiful, my love.”
“And you, my king.”
The two of you share a kiss. It’s all so - dizzying. It’s not unexpected to have a child with Malleus - you had one with Riddle, but this is different. This child is older, she knows you, she feels so real.
He pulls away to smile at you. “I have a gift for you.”
“What’s the occasion?”
“Need there be one for me to celebrate my wonderful spouse?”
“I suppose not. Thank you, Malleus. No matter how many gifts you give, I will treasure them all.”
He pulls out a box from his pocket, asking you to turn around. You feel him guide a cold band around your neck, clasping it in the back. He then places a small, handheld mirror in your hands, urging you to look.
The necklace he’s given you is beyond stunning. It’s silver, with a dazzling gemstone in the middle. You don’t even want to ponder how much it must’ve cost.
You catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror.
It’s strange - seeing yourself much older when Malleus looks the same. It unsettles you more than you’d like to admit. It’s one thing to know you’ll age at different rates and another to see it with your own eyes.
This must be something on your mind in the future as well, because of the next thing you decide to ask Malleus.
“Will I see her grow up? For me, it feels like she’s been young forever. I love it and yet…I want to see more of her life than just this.”
He doesn’t ask who you’re referring to. “You will. You’ll see most. I was practicing mature by my eighty-first birthday.”
You sigh. “I may not even get that far. I’m healthy now, but who knows. The curses of being human…”
He tilts your chin to face him. “It is not a curse to me, my love. I chose you, and I would again.”
There’s infinitely more to discuss, but you already feel yourself slipping away.
-
You come to from the vision mid walk. Malleus is unaffected, seemingly still in the middle of one of his explanations behind the rich history of one of gargoyles you’d just passed by.
When he notices your silence and turns to ask if you’re alright, you have no response for him.
It seems almost selfish, for you to choose him. Why- why did there need to be so many things wrong? Why did you have to be human, to pain him and your future children by leaving them behind so early?
The joy and the pain - would it all truly be worth it? Or would it be better for it to have never happened?
Malleus looks at you with concern, wiping the tears suddenly cascading down your cheeks.
“What’s wrong, my child of man?”
Everything and nothing, you want to tell him.
viii. all things end, all that we intend; conclusion
Seven beautiful souls, all potential endings. Every future you glimpsed has it’s own charms, and it’s own poisons.
Which future will you choose? One of them? Or perhaps…another?

🎉 happy 4th anniversary, twst! 🎉

***Spoilers for the Grim groovy and new animated PV below the cut!***
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This year features no anime-style PV, but rather a reel of various (groovy) pictures that we have taken over the years. You can watch it here!
While it features all 22 of the main cast at NRC, there is a focus on dorm leaders at the very end. All seven (yes, including Malleus!) gather for a group photo.
There is also this special ad that aired on Shinjuku screens. It features 3D models of Ace and Deuce carrying supplies over for the celebration, only to drop them. They spell out a "Happy Anni" message before exploding into white and gold confetti. It's interesting to see TWST using 3D models in their advertising; these were only previously seen at a TWSTFes where they performed some songs with them for in-person attendees.
Tumblr media
Additionally, a special website has launched where you can design your own key.
And now… Grim’s groovy!!
Tumblr media
OMG 😭 I’m so glad they included Lucius and the Ramshackle Ghosts in here too, they’re unsung heroes finally getting the spotlight!!! I love the touch of Grim and the ghosts posing with an open palm because those guys only have four fingers on each hand www
It’s nice to see the staff out of their usual element. They play such a minor role in the main story and only occasionally step up during events. You can see each of their personalities really coming through in the way each poses!!
Sam and Crowley are more on the chipper side, especially Crowley who is front and center (and living for every moment of it, just look at that wink)! Crewel is looking cool and confident, and Trein continues that energy but is much more stern. I imagine he’s trying to smile for the camera but maybe isn’t used to having his picture taken so he comes off as unintentionally upset 😂 And, of course, Vargas is flexing off to the side.
This was a nice way to celebrate the fourth year of TWST~

"We've Seen The Devil—He Was Hiding In The Mirror."

Synopsis: The second oath revealed, a new character appeared.
Word count: 3k.
Includes: Obsessive and possessive behavior, PTSD, nightmares
"You are no savior—nor purpose nor God. You are damnation—a phony and fraud."
--------------
You flip to the first page and begin reading.
Entry 001: Names.
The Ramshackle Ghosts have informed me that they do not have names. Or, more accurately, that they have long since forgotten them. Grim says it is peculiar for someone to not have a name. I will have to trust his judgment on this.
Entry 003: You.
Grim asked about you today. I, quite unfortunately, did not have much to tell him. Or rather, there was not much I was allowed to tell him. Whenever I try to speak your name out loud, my lips firmly close, like a flower blossom at night.
When we are alone, you are all that he asks about. Not that I blame him for it, of course; I am just as curious as he. The ghosts are strange, though: they have never once asked about you. Perhaps they simply do not understand.
Entry 005:
Grim has revealed the truth of your existence to Heartslyabull. It was an accident, of course, but even so, I gave him a rather stern talking-to. They have directed all of their attention onto you. It’s true that I did not exactly like being on the receiving end of their “affections”, but at the very least I did not have to share you with anyone.
Entry 015: Fate.
I've been thinking more about names lately. Everyone seems to have one. I am no different. My name, Yuu, indicates that I am a stand-in for someone else. A blank slate for you to imprint upon. The others have similar names. Each one is an indication of our role. With just the names, you can figure us out. Are all names like this? Is each person's fate dictated by their name?
What about yours? Your name is different. Your name is not a play on words, nor a foreshadowing of things yet to come. Your name says nothing. You are simply yourself.
You are the only thing real in this world. You are the only thing who is not bound by the threads of fate.
Entry 017: Love.
I had a very interesting conversation with the Heartslyabul students today. It was about you, obviously—for, what topic besides you could ever possibly be interesting? I had asked them about what they felt for you (rather accusatively, if we are being honest here. After all, how could they possibly feel anything, when they are nothing but code?) They responded that they felt love. Naturally, I had been expecting this answer, however, something about the way they said it made me pause. Perhaps it was the matter-of-factness of it all that caught me by surprise. They answered my query in the same tone of voice one would use to say that the sun will rise in the East and set in the West, or that the sky is always blue except for evenings and mornings.
They said it as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. They said it as if they believed no other answer could possibly exist. I do not believe them to be worthy of your gaze, but even so, they have earned my respect.
Entry 020: Real.
Some of those worthless NPCs doubt your existence. It is of little consequence, however, for your influence is all too real. Even those maggots cannot deny that much. You have changed this world without ever once stepping foot in it.
Entry 027: Devil.
The characters you love are a complete mess because of you. They stretch themselves thin trying to win your affection. They pull all-nighters, throwing themselves into researching to bring you over to them. They destroy themselves when you’re away, and they ruin each other when you are here.
They claim you are their savior—their purpose. Because of that, they put you on a pedestal. They worship you as if you are some god. But you are no god. You are its reverse.
You are a devil.
But don’t fret, my dear [Name], for I still love you all the same. When the others learn of your true nature they may abandon you, but I will always be there.
You slam the book shut.
“Hasn’t anyone told you that it’s rude to go through another person’s things?” Your surprise registers in your mind, but your body does not react. You do not flinch, though all of your senses are screaming at you to move. You recognize this person immediately, their silhouette is illuminated by the moon’s glow behind them. You had seen them before, but this is different. You are not just seeing the body, colorless and without soul—you are seeing the person. Now, you had seen their thoughts, their hopes, you had heard their voice.
“Yuu…” Your voice trails off. You have nothing to say. What could you say?
“[Name]...” They echo, voice eerily similar to yours. They smile at you—and what a smile it is! It is the kind of smile you only see in portraits. It is cheerful yet mysterious. Cunning yet serene. It is the kind of smile that betrays nothing of the smiler’s intentions. Pretty does not even begin to describe it. They are not just beautiful—they are beauty itself.
Instinctively, you step back, unaccustomed to being on the receiving end of such an intense gaze. They close the distance easily. Before you can even blink, their nose is almost touching yours. You can feel their heartbeat on your chest as they reach behind you, hand slithering across your arm. Goosebumps rise on the skin where they touched you and linger even after they take the journal and step back. You think, for a second, that your response is out of attraction, only to realize faintly that you are afraid. It is the way they look at you, you think. Their gaze could be compared to that of a predator stalking its pray.
The only difference being that no predator would dare make its intentions quite so clear.
They are still donning that smile of theirs. Only now it is wider, crueler. It vanishes as soon as it appears, leaving you to wonder if perhaps it was nothing more than your imagination all along. “Goodnight [Name],” they say, although it is far too late to properly be considered night, you suppose the distinction is not very important.
After all, they have already left.
———
Grim is standing over you. It is morning, you realize. The rendezvous from last night sits in the forefront of your head as Grim goes on about something or another. You are only able to catch the last part of what he is saying. ”Ya' got some wellness packages from the students—and letters. A lot of letters."
Great.
You step into your house slippers (when did you get those?) and head downstairs. Honestly, you were not expecting much. A few baskets with candy and first aid, get-well-soon cards and maybe, maybe a teddy bear—if they were really splurging.
It’s like you were born yesterday. Of course it would turn out like this. Didn’t you see the offering room? And that was before they even had a reason to send you gifts.
A mountain of gifts looms over you, casting a large and foreboding shadow across the dorm. Just looking at the giant amalgamation of well-wishes and apologies has you feeling overwhelmed. It takes you a few long seconds to gather the courage and determination needed to move it all indoors, luckily, you have Grim to help you with that (although, inexplicably, some of them had already made it inside even without the two of you). It is around the time you are dragging the fourth package indoors that you wish you had more people to help.
Actually…
“Hey, Grim?”
“Yeah?”
“Where are the ghosts?” Grim pauses. Then, with a nonchalance completely unbefitting of the situation at hand, he replies:
“Dunno. They’ve been missing ever since Yuu shut down.”
“Excuse me?” Grim shrugs. “Three people go missing, right as a fourth turns black and white, and your response is to just…shrug it off?” Grim, at the very least, has the decency to look a little embarrassed at this. He tucks his ears flat against his head. Avoiding eye contact, his eyes dart around the room, likely looking for an excuse to change the subject.
Grim picks up a letter from a pile. “Here! Why don’tcha read this one?” You take the letter from his hand, rather unimpressed with his attempt to fool you, but willing to look the other way for now. After all, suspicious as it is, the ghosts’ disappearance really has nothing to do with you.
“This one’s from Riddle,” you say, turning the envelope around in your hands. It’s white with a red rose seal. The address has been penned impeccably in red ink. The others in the pile are not nearly as fancy as this one, but they each follow the same formula. You suppose there must be a rule about letter-sending.
You glance over at the other piles. Each has their own quirks that distinguish them from the rest.
Pristine white envelopes with red seals and red ink, courtesy of Heartslyabul.
Kraft paper envelopes tied together with string, “from Savanaclaw” penned plainly in black ink.
Grayish blue wrapped gifts with letters laid neatly on top, no doubt from Octavinelle.
Scarlet envelopes with what you suspect to be actual golden seals—an elephant and a scarab, surely from Scarabia.
Royal purple with silver encasings, long elegant calligraphy giving away its Pomefiore origins (although, one letter is drawn more sloppily than the others, you notice).
Most uniquely of all, a tablet that appears to function solely as a voice recorder, ready to be played at any moment, surely something one can only find in Ignihyde.
Gothic-style calligraphy and black envelopes with green seals, unquestioningly from Diasomnia.
You stare at the baskets of letters for a while, debating yourself on whether the energy of opening and reading each letter would be worth the effort. You decide that no, you’d rather not go through the ordeal, and instead, opt to stand up and stretch your legs, only to end up right back on the floor, reading through the letters you had just sworn to avoid.
You really are hopeless, huh?
———
“That’s the last one,” you say, tossing the letter aside and flopping down to lay flat on the floor. Getting through all of them had taken you hours, despite only having skimmed them.
“Jeez, they’re really persistent.” You nod, or you try to. It's actually rather difficult to make the nodding motion while lying down, but Grim seems to understand your sentiment, regardless. Your mind feels hazy; your vision is starting to blur. Perhaps you ended up straining yourself. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to rest your eyes, just for a moment.
You must have drifted off, because when you came to, you were on a couch, and not the floor. Just as well, you suppose, lying on hardwood for too long would hardly be comfortable.
"Morning!" You feel a weight on your chest as your eyes shoot open. Yuu is laying on top of you, head resting on their hands and elbows digging into your ribs. Their face is entirely too close. You open your mouth to speak, but the words never leave your body.
"Aw, I know you've got a lot to say to me, but it looks like we'll have to cut this conversation short. You seem to be waking up," they say, gracefully getting up and walking out of sight.
"Wait hold on—!"
———
"—Wait, Yuu!" Your eyes shoot open as a feeling of Dejá Vu washes over your body.
"Hey, hey! Myah! Calm down!" A familiar weight settles on your chest as Grim stands over you, watching your expression worriedly.
"I guess I must have dozed off. Sorry, Grim."
"You okay? You were screamin' bloody murder."
"Just a bad dream. I'm fine." Grim doesn't look entirely convinced, but doesn't seem interested in pressing the issue.
"You were screamin' about Yuu. Speaking of…where are they, anyways?"
“What do you mean?” You ask, a feeling of unease creeping its way into your stomach.
“They’re not in the bedroom anymore. So, where’dja put ‘em?”
“I…thought you moved them?” You bolt up the second that Grim shakes his head, frantically running around in search of something you know does not exist.
You are searching for the library.
It is then, as you are running, that something peculiar catches your attention.
It is a door. Now, that on its own is not at all a concern. There are doors everywhere, but this door…this door is different. This door is not supposed to be there. This is a door you have opened before. It is distinct from all the others—this door leads to the library. It was exactly the thing you had been searching for, and yet, now, standing in front of it, you hesitate.
Your shoulders tense as you stare at the door. You look at it as if you are waiting for it to jump out and frighten you. But it does no such thing. It is, after all, nothing more than a simple door. This knowledge does nothing to lay your anxiety to rest. If anything, it only amplifies the growing pit in your stomach.
You gather up as much courage as you can muster and twist the doorknob, even if only to lay your unease to rest. It is unfortunate, then, that your unease only grew upon entering. The door disappears behind you, and a feeling of dread crawls from you, emanating out in waves.
This room isn’t supposed to exist—but you are very much here.
“Come to read?” Yuu’s disembodied voice calls out to you. You silently scan the library for any signs of life. You find nothing. Perhaps there is nothing to find. “Looking for something?” You whip around, Yuu now standing behind you. They are smiling. It is that same cruel, bewitching smile from last night. Your throat feels dry. You are shaking.
“You must have really missed me. We were only apart for a few minutes, you know?”
“What is this place?”
“I call it the Wraith. I don’t know exactly how it works, only that it has something to do with the subconscious. I came here when I shut down, and you come here whenever you lose touch with reality. It’s really fascinating stuff.”
Lose touch with reality? As you ponder over Yuu’s words, images of your previous visits float through your mind.
And just like that, you are alone. It takes a moment for the realization to sink in on you: you are alone. And it is by your own doing, no less. What a terrifying lapse in judgment! What an egregious oversight!
Grim is standing over you. It is morning, you realize.
Your mind feels hazy; your vision is starting to blur. Perhaps you ended up straining yourself. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to rest your eyes, just for a moment.
You are searching for the library.
“But you know,” Yuu’s voice pulls you away from your thoughts. “a room like this doesn't just pop into existence. Someone has to make it.”
“And in order to make it, something has to be sacrificed.” They take two steps closer, and you take four steps back. It isn’t long before you are running out of space to hide. It isn’t long before your back is pressed to the wall, with their hands to either side of your head.
“Want to know something funny?” They cock their head to the side as you stare at them, their grin only widening when you remain silent. “When I first shut down, everyone thought that something was wrong with me. But, really? I felt better than ever. It was like I was awake for the first time in my life. I was aware the whole time, I could hear everything. I saw the whole hunt, you know?” You are so still that you are not even breathing. When Yuu steps back, you suck in a breath and sink to the floor. They pay it little mind and continue on with their story.
“Of course, I hated to see you so mistreated—but even so, I was a little glad. You finally saw them for who they really were, and I finally got to see you for who you really were. It was beyond frustrating, you know? Watching you get kicked around by filthy, vile creatures that could never be deserving of you.”
“Although, I suppose it was you who made them that way, wasn’t it? You’ve ruined them, you know?” The aura they’re emitting is nigh unbearable. Your body is screaming at you to run, but the fear has rendered you deaf. They smile. That same damned smile. Your breath hitches. Images replay in your mind as your head swirls
The mouth widens as storm clouds gather and swirl around you. Dancing around in a cruel ballet. Thunder cracks in the distance as acidic rain hits and sears through your skin. The flowers turn to gravestones, and the songbirds begin to scream in human voices. Thorny vines reach up and take hold of your limbs, cutting through your flesh and bones as if they were made of nothing more than paper.
You are already halfway to being buried alive when you realize you’re being pulled in. Desperately, you try to claw your way out of the soil that threatens to swallow you into its suffocating embrace, but it's of no use. It isn’t long before you can no longer fight back. It isn’t long before you—
“You…what are you? You’re not…human.”
“Does it matter what I am?”
“It does.”
“Then just call me yours.” They hold out a hand to you, urging you to take it. “I know that your presence ruins people, but I don’t mind.”
“Because I love you.”

Fan ramshackle for uniform [final ver.]
Tumblr media
I decided on putting the bow at the back since putting it near Stolas line of sight might obscure him when reading spell books. The outfit consists of features from the ghost. Their cloak turned into a coat and their white body, a whole suit with the butterfly end being a nod to yen sid from Fantasia. With little details of ramshackle, like the cobwebs on the upper part, the strings and stripes from the curtains of ramshackle and frills from the ghost bride.
The thing in the middle is Stolas like weapon?? Y'know how like dorm leaders have scepters and books, yeah it's that thing

Behind That Smile - Ruggie Bucchi x Reader
I like animal facts. Definitely recommend checking out the vet!yuu tag by blackopals-world.
Premise: Hyenas can bite through bone
Words: 1,537
Warnings: Intrusive thoughts, Halloween event spoilers
~~~~~
               “Ruggie, if you don’t slow down, you’re gonna be sick.”
               Those cloudy-sky eyes manage to tear away from his plate long enough to peer up at me. It’s impressive he doesn’t choke as he swallows all the food in his mouth.
               “Are you kidding? I’m just getting started!” He catches sight of Epel walking by with a plate of meat and he awes. “Oh I haven’t tried that yet! I gotta go get some!”
               In a bolt, he’s out of his chair, already filling another plate. I shake my head with a sigh; however, at my side, the Diasomnian vice-housewarden chuckles.
               “Isn’t his appetite simply astounding?”
               “It’s impressive alright,” I hum. “I just wish he’d slow down before he chokes.”
               “But he still has so much to go through if he hopes to sample everything here,” Lilia says.
               He is right about that. Malleus, Lilia, Grim, and I had set out to help the ghosts enjoy the Halloween party that they missed. We had a beautiful venue, Malleus had the music covered, and we had the rest of Night Raven College on a scavenger hunt for mirror shards to fix our atmospheric lighting. However, one of the most astonishing features of the night were the tables absolutely stacked with food from all over Twisted Wonderland—courtesy of the ghosts themselves.
               And Ruggie is having the time of his life.
               Said hyena returns with various meat piled on his plate, but at the bottom sits a hunk of beef still clinging to the bone. It’s comically large and I honestly thought food like that only existed in cartoons. Yet Ruggie isn’t perturbed in the slightest as he chomps through everything he brought.
               I have a small chat with Lilia while Ruggie eats. It comes to a stop though when the hyena cleans the ridiculously large bone.
               “Finished already?” Lilia asks.
               “Not even.” He holds up the large bone in his hand. “This is the best part.”
               Without hesitation, Ruggie puts the skeletal matter into his mouth and bites.
               The crunching sound that follows shocks me to my core; it echoes in my ears. The sight of the splintered bone infests my brain and intrusive thoughts force me to imagine that as my arm. It’s mind blowing to think that this kid I’ve been hanging out with nearly every day could chomp through something so solid with such little effort.
               “My, that’s quite a bite you’ve got there,” Lilia remarks.
               Ruggie gives him a glance between getting at the marrow of the bone. “Yeah, I get told that often but it’s pretty normal in my family. My grammy used to give them to me when I was little.” He laughs. “She said it kept me quiet when I was annoying her.”
               “I’ll have to make note of that,” Lilia laughs. “I suppose that means there really isn’t much you won’t eat.”
               A shiver flies down my spine as he crunches the bone like candy. “Hey, if it’s edible, it’s worth trying at least once.”
               Throughout the rest of the night, I can’t get the image of Ruggie breaking bones out of my head. Again, the intrusive thoughts don’t help.
               The night ends and Malleus returns everyone safely to Night Raven College. There’s seems to be a lot of relief that Halloween has finally ended, but everyone agrees that it’s time to get some sleep.
               “So you had a hand in this entire mess.”
               My heart skips as Ruggie catches up to me and Grim on our way back to Ramshackle.
               “I guess you could say that.”
               “Heck yeah we did!” Grim climbs my costume to stand on my shoulder. “And we planned the best party ever!”
               “Yeah you did. The food was great.” Immediately, I divert my eyes away from Ruggie’s grin. I’m not sure I can ever look at that smile the same again.
               Though the conversation stays light, I keep my gaze occupied on the way back to my shabby little dorm. I would look at anything—the castle overhead, the rising sun, the rusted gate, the drowsy cat in my arms—as long as it wasn’t Ruggie.
               I tuck the blanket around my magic partner who quickly crashed on our way back. With a soft smile, I place his hat on the nightstand and stroke his head. The feline mumbles something about “awesome dance moves” as he rolls over to continue his dream.
               “Man, I thought he’d be up for hours with how wired he was,” Ruggie says as I close the door behind me.
               I glance down the hall, trying to put on a light-hearted air. “I think he just finally hit that sugar crash.”
               “Hey, are you okay?”
               “Yeah, I’m fine.”
               “Then why won’t you look at me?”
               Embarrassment simmers in my ears. This whole thing is stupid.
               “It’s nothing. I’m just being silly.” Raising my head, I look him in the eye and put on a smile. “I’m fine.” Immediately after those words leave my mouth, I can’t help glancing at his lips and my gaze instantly averts.
               “Yeah right. You’re avoiding me.” Ruggie ducks down, trying to look me in the eyes, but I just can’t. “Aw, c’mon. You mad at me or somethin’?”
               “N-No.” I avoid him again.
               “Then what?”
               The intrusive thoughts themselves aren’t really anything to be ashamed of. “Look, I just…I’m trying to block out the intrusive thoughts, okay?”
               There’s a pause. “What kind of intrusive thoughts?”
               But the contents of those thoughts kind of are.
               “Ruggie…” I groan.
               “Just tell me, will ya. You know I’m not gonna leave you alone ‘til you do.”
               He’s right—I know he won’t. It takes me a few moments filled with deep breaths and expectant stares to finally get the words out.
               “I’m just having a hard time getting the image of you crunching through that bone out of my head, okay? Can we just drop it now?”
               “The bone?” Glancing to him, I can see the gears turning in his head. “You’re not tellin’ me you’re scared of my bite now, are ya?”
               I pinch the bridge of my nose. “It’s less that I’m afraid and more that I can’t stop imaging you biting through things.”
               “You mean like this?”
               My stomach flips when the hyena grabs my arm. In a swift motion, he draws my sleeve back and brings the limb to his mouth, those massive, gleaming teeth resting against my skin. The image of that snapping bone fills my head. I shut my eyes and brace for the core-rattling snapping sound and the inevitable pain to follow.
               Instead I hear a soft chuckle. Warm, gentle lips meet my skin, instantly drawing my gaze back. Embers smolder behind his eyes as he trails soft kisses down to the back of my hand. A last reverent press of his lips meets my knuckles before his fingers intertwine with mine.
               “You gotta know I could never hurt you.” Even his voice is infested with the heat quickly enflaming my own bashfulness. This smooth criminal then leans in, lips brushing against my cheek causing the air to hitch in my chest. “Not even if my life depended on it.”
               Then, Ruggie retreats, that ever-lovable simper warped into something warm and gentle. Meanwhile, with my skin on fire, I press against the wall in an attempt to keep myself from collapsing. I’m positive his ears—even hidden beneath that marauder’s hat—can hear the pounding in my chest. And if he didn’t hear that, the shuddering exhale from my mouth is probably thoroughly satisfying.
               “What’s wrong, sugar?” he asks, absolutely full of himself right now.
                My free hand presses to my face in a shoddy attempt to calm my nerves. “What a cruel criminal you are to toy with my feelings like this.”
               “All in a days work for a scurvy pirate—stealin’ such precious treasures as hearts, shyehehe.” There’s that smooth tongue. “But who said I was playin’?”
               The grip on my hand tightens and I swear he’s squeezing my heart.
               “Ruggie…?”
               “Didn’t even need to trick-or-treat to get me the best prize.” Some of his mischief returns. “Man, a full feast and I get the cutest kid on campus? I really did make off like a pirate with all the treasure this year.”
               It seems my legs are stable enough to hold their own weight again. “I don’t know about that.”
               “Oh I do. I could just eat you up.” He laughs in the face of my glare. “Too soon?”
               “I’m going to bed now.”
               My announcement doesn’t seem to deter Ruggie from pestering me, chattering about random things. Yet I’m not entirely inclined to send him off. Instead, he sheds his coat and boots and flops onto the bed beside me—his hand finding mine like the greedy man he is. It doesn’t take long after that for the conversation to lull and consciousness to drift.
               Those intrusive thoughts return frequently from then on out. Ruggie always had the potential to seriously hurt me. But every time he smiles, I’m reminded of that pirate in Ramshackle on Halloween night. I remember just how gentle that mouth can be—and how quickly it can sink those fangs into my heart.
Name-Your-Friend : You find a rather tall boy with an interesting look in your yard at Ramshackle. Despite your initial wariness, something draws you to the man and an interesting friendship blooms. Platonic!Malleus Draconia x GN!Reader
Synopsis : you make a new friend who's almost as bad at socializing as you are. He's quiet, gentle and awkward in a way that's endearing. He won't share his name, so you decide on a nickname as you confide in this mystery man. Begins the night after Riddle's Overblot.
Warnings : general spoilers about the game Disney's Twisted Wonderland. Light fluff, purely platonic and friendly, use of personal head canons and what I know about the game pre book 5. Slightly different from the in game meetings but same vibe. INCREDIBLY SELF INDULGENT BECAUSE HORNTON IS MY BEST BOY. Reader is normal font. All thoughts and musing by Malleus are italic.
Authors Note : this has been living rent free in my head since I first met Malleus in game. They can't show us every second and every interaction, so I think there's a lot of late nights he visits because he's just as lonely, and it's nice to have someone who's not groveling, calling him "my prince" or scared of him. God I love him.
---
You were physically and emotionally done for the day. Grim was passed out and dreaming of tuna all ready while you began to close the curtains. As you did, something caught your eye. Something? More like someone. You couldn't tell from this distance but because of the lighting of the moon, you could see a student of NRC just staring at your house.
It definitely startled and when you made eye contact from the window you pulled the curtains shut and dropped to the floor. Why did you feel like you'd been caught peeping? After a moment of collecting yourself, you pull on a hoodie over your pajamas and stuff on your shoes before making your way down and out of the house.
The ghost trio gave light teases as you passed. A midnight tryst?! And so soon! You'd have to introduce them. You waved them off, a little annoyed but mostly focused.
Had he run off? You can't help but wonder as you step outside into the brisk air. Scanning your surroundings you find him nearer than before. He had what you could barely call a smile on his calm and handsome features. He was so beautiful you felt inferior. Shaking off the nerves, you stepped onto the dying lawn and stood beside him, looking up to see what had caught his eye.
You weren't sure if he acknowledged your presence, but he made no move to leave or brush you off. He just continued to stare up at your roof.
"Is it the gargoyles?" You ask suddenly. It was the only thing of interest you could spy. It kind of fit his spooky yet handsome appearance. "I couldn't believe myself when I was first dumped here. Old place has a lotta very cool bits and bobs, even if it is falling to pieces..." You grumble that last bit, still frustrated that Crowley had been avoiding the topic of fixing the roof, despite all your work so far. The near perfect grades you got, handling Riddle's outburst and Overblot without dying, and just generally baby sitting some of the rowdier students.
"A child of man?" Was the first thing he said. You try not to gasp, he had such a pleasing voice. "To my knowledge, this dorm has been abandoned and forgotten for quite a while." You noticed for a split second a look of confusion. Had you not been studying his face, you may of missed it all together.
"Ah yea, I had heard that from some of the ghosts and the headmaster. My name is [Y/N], I'm Ramshackle Dorms new Prefect." You explain quickly and offer your hand.
A moment passes, and you begin to feel a fool for offering your hand to a stranger. He does however accept it within his firm gloved grasp. "A pleasure to meet you child of man. I am-" he paused and shook his head. "My name matters not, you may call me what you wish. Though careful, you may come to regret it." He gave a playful smile, exposing sharpened canines. Between the horns and his teeth, you knew he wasn't human. This didn't scare you near as much as it should, but then again three of your roommates were ghosts.
"Shy?" You ask with a shrug and give it a thought. "How about Hornton? It's a bit on the nose but it's all my brain can come up with."
He bursts into laughter, giving you his first genuine smile. "You are quite fearless child of man. Truly." He gives you one last smile. "While it's been pleasant having the ruined house to myself, I look forward to what you bring to the future." He gave the gargoyles a fond look. "Remember the gargoyles as you fix things up, and give it attention." he finished with a short bow, as he burst into a beautiful green light, leaving nothing behind but some fireflies.
What a magical way to end a very long and unpleasant day. You hoped he'd visit again, he was pleasant to be near. He gave you an odd calm feeling, even though his aura screamed danger.
~~~
You intrigued Malleus Draconia greatly. Not that he had revealed his name. Despite his overwhelming aura, you approached him with little to no hesitation.
In the following months, you'd catch him admiring the quiet of your house, even going so far as to give you advice on how to deal with the OctoTrio when they had taken hold of the dorm, threatening to leave you homeless in a world that wasn't your own and was hardly kind. Especially not kind to those without magic.
Other times you'd join him in his quiet studies of the gargoyles and surrounding forest. Occasionally you would break the silence with questions or just to add your own musing to the about the surroundings and recent event. You told him about everything, from mundane classes to nightmarish Overblotting of several Housewardens.
His favorite part about you was how you genuinely treasured your time with him. You never pushed for his identity, happy to have him as your gargoyle enthusiast friend Hornton. He found himself chuckling over the name, even when not around you. Lilia had asked about you more and more as he noticed the lingering visits Malleus spent at Ramshackle. He waved it off, merely stating he needed to check on you, his "Child of Man" who was almost completely alone in a terrifying new world, full of a magic you had never seen before. Lilia would always laugh and nod along, even going so far as to deliver a holiday card when Malleus could not himself.
Not long after the winter, he was once again in front of Ramshackle, waiting patiently for his Child of Man. He was surprised when he heard your familiar footsteps. Not surprised by them exactly, more stunned by the speed and noise that you made rushing to open your door.
"Hornton!" You exclaim and practically threw yourself at him, embracing him. It felt like so long.
The embrace surprised the fae dragon, but he caught you none the less, carefully returning the embrace. "Awfully excitable tonight aren't you child of man?" He teased lightly.
You beamed up at him with a pleased grin. "Yes! Tonight is important. It's very special." You assure him, kicking your door gently open further.
Freeing yourself from his embrace, you give him a little bow and extend your hand for his. Before he could even pout, you continued to smile at him and take his hand. "Ramshackle is finally presentable enough for me to invite you in. Hornton," you begin to lead him inside. "I welcome you in to my dorm, come have a drink or something! I'm excited, you're the first person I wanted to invite in."
"You're inviting me inside Child of Man?" Malleus asked surprised, but genuine smile and delight on his face.
"Of course! You're one of my best friends, and I wanted to share this with you as soon as I could." You led him in and rambled about how you had to enlist Azul and professor Trein to finally get Crowley to get off his ass and make the place at least a safe haven from the elements.
Malleus had stopped listening from the moment you confirmed the invite. All he could do was smile and keep his hand in yours. You truly were special. His Child of Man would always remember to invite him, always remember to have him in your life. He quite looked forward to that night, and any following adventures he would have with you.

Family Picnic Pt. 1
Featuring: Great Seven Yuu Au
Inspire by: @rose-tea-and-strawberries @twisted-wonderland-but-gayer @minzart @sandbees and more
Apparently, the henchmen of the Great Sevens manage to get to be brought back alive as the two birds explain to Yuu.
It was early in the morning as the Ramshackle prefect woke up. They were waiting for the great sevens' voices, but no one spoke. Grim was still asleep till the trio of ghosts spook him. Yuu prepared to get ready till they heard a tap from the window.
"Diavolo? Iago? What are you two doing, and how are you here?"
"Wait, what you said?"
"We're having a picnic at the courtyard. We all got our physical forms back."
"Eh!? What about the other students, especially Crowley?"
"Oh, don't worry about it."
Meanwhile:
"WHY ARE WE AT RSA!?"
Back at NRC:
"Strawberry tarts, ice coffee, no one here to disturb us. It is the perfect day for a picnic."
"Indeed it is." Great sevens

Yuu except they’re a distant descendant of Eliza the Ghost Bride (maybe a great great great grandchild of a sibling who escaped the kingdom’s destruction by fleeing through the mirror to our world).
So when the ghosts come to kick them out of Ramshackle, they take one look at Yuu, recognize their facial features, and kidnap them too. After all, they’re Eliza’s family! What would make their princess happier than to have her living relative at her wedding?
(Meanwhile Yuu is just going “what” in increasingly desperate tones of voice. They heard nothing about this whole ‘being descended from royalty’ thing, they would like to be able to call up their folks and demand an explanation yesterday please.)
Eliza is, of course, ecstatic. This is the descendant of her precious sibling who managed to escape, and they’re here in Twisted Wonderland to see her wedding to the prince of her dreams? It must be fate!! She alternates between cuddling up to Idia, eagerly trying to get to know her great great great grandkid, and slapping all these suitors who keep trying to interfere, especially those fiends who keep trying to kidnap the living royal heir!! Why, she may as well take them to the other side with her too at this rate, to make sure they’re safe!!
Everyone in the rescue mission is panicking. No one is okay.
Thankfully, Eliza and Chubby realize their love for each other and let Yuu and Idia go...
Except now Yuu has a whole bunch of ghostly relatives who keep popping up to embarrass help them in their day to day life whether they ask for it or not and a new (if defunct) royal title to contend with, with all the pageantry that brings. Almost like the princess diaries but with ghosts XD XD
:D I love ghost relatives. Just imagine Yuu desperately looking for an escape for them and Idia, but they’re also really curious to find out about their descendants.
Maybe after the whole Ghost Wedding fiasco is over (and Yuu has a mental crisis), Yuu can contact Eliza to ask about their family’s history? I mean, Eliza would be ecstatic to talk about it for weeks!
But that also means that Yuu could technically stay in Twisted Wonderland, since their family originated there.
:0000 WAITWAIT
DOES THAT MEAN YUU HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GET MAGIC?? I MEAN I ASSUME ITS COMMON SINCE RSA AND NRC ARE MAGIC SCHOOLS?
IMAGINE THAT THE LONGER YUU SPENDS TIME WITH THEIR GHOSTLY RELATIVES, THEY SLOWLY GAIN SOME FORM OF MAGIC. Maybe something similar to Eliza’s when she was alive??
Everyone is pretty surprised! But hey, maybe being in a magicless world locked Yuu’s magic potential. So when Yuu came here and interacted with her past relatives, that magic awoke.
Eliza and the rest would be so happy! Yes!! They have a descendant they could teach their magic too!
And Yuu? They didn’t expect this, but inside, they’re glad. They could fit in at the school, and they’ve finally found the piece that was missing all along.

Twisted Wonderland: the Novel. Ace Apologizes.
After a difficult first day of school Yuuya is awoken by Ace, who is asking to spend the night after stealing a tart at Heartslabyul.
Important note: just moments earlier Yuuya tells Ace that if he apologizes from the heart, Riddle will forgive him for stealing.
--
“‘I’ll let you stay, so you’re gonna have to pay me in ten cans of tuna.’
‘Okay, we have a deal.’
‘A friend~!’ The Ramshackle ghosts dart through a wall and into the room, flying about in delight.
‘So much life in Ramshackle Dorm! I never thought I'd see the day.’
‘Shut it! Stop appearin’ outta no where like that!’
Grim bats at the air as if warding off insects; his usual chasing of the ghosts has begun.
Watching the spirited interactions between Grim and the ghosts from a slight distance, Yuuya hears a conversational ‘Hey’ from Ace, to catch his attention.
Yuuya looks over with a start only to find Ace already facing him, his features distorted into a difficult expression.
‘Oh, sorry—what is it, Ace-kun?’
‘Are you still mad at me?’
‘Eh?’ Yuuya blinks. ‘What do you mean?’
‘You know. For before. Come on, in front of the Great Seven statues, when we met for the first time.’
Yuuya’s heart skips a beat. He remembers, but he has been trying so hard to forget.
Trying to forget how Ace deceived them by approaching in such a friendly manner. How his hopes had been crushed by Ace’s mockery. How Ace had looked at him and said, ‘So boring.’ His cruel laughter.
Yuuya does not know what to say. It is not that he is angry. But he is afraid. He has no idea how to interact with someone who is this straightforward.
What can Ace be plotting by asking a question like that, at a time like this? Yuuya steals a glance at Ace’s downcast face, but he wears no expression. No matter how he turns the question over in his mind, Yuuya cannot think of how he is meant to answer.
But if he doesn’t respond fast enough, Ace will probably get confused and follow up with ‘Why can’t you just let it go?’
It is hard to tell what Ace himself thinks as he watches Yuuya’s silent panic. Ace looks down at his feet and coughs.
‘I was wrong.’
‘What?’ Yuuya asks again; Ace has spoken so gently that Yuuya does not believe he has heard what he thinks he’s heard.
‘Oh, come on.’ Ace sharply raises his eyes. ‘I’m saying, I was wrong. I might have said some horrible things to you because I didn’t know your situation. All I heard was there was someone in the school who doesn’t even have any magic, so I thought you’d forced your way in or something, while the rest of us all had to get in on our own merit. I thought it wasn’t fair, so I got a little pissed off.’
The words leave Ace in a rush, fast and awkward, and then he hangs his head. ‘I’m sorry.’
Then Ace lifts his head again just slightly, giving Yuuya a glance.
‘…if you apologize then you get forgiven, right?’
It is such a clever move that Yuuya cannot help but laugh.
‘Yeah. It’s ok. I mean, I’m not actually mad. Not even a little.’
Ace’s words had been malicious and cruel, but he wasn’t wrong. That’s what had been so terrifying. But now, Yuuya realizes that Ace had just been acting overly defensive towards a boy his own age.
Looking back, hasn’t Ace been expressing concern for him, too? Even just this morning, but Yuuya had suspected him of some hidden agenda and gotten so nervous—Yuuya feels bad about it now. What must Ace have thought of him, seeing him so frightened?
As he reflects, Yuuya realizes that there is something important that he has failed to do as well.
‘I wanted to say, too—thank you for saving me yesterday.’
Now it is Yuuya who lowers his head. He has not been able to thank Ace properly for saving him in the nick of time from that monster.
‘If it weren’t for you, Ace-kun, I don’t think I’d even be here right now.’
‘This isn’t some academy for spoiled rich kids, you know—just Ace is fine.’
‘…Ace. Thank you.’
Ace smiles and raises his head, and his cheeks look a little flushed. Much different from his usual airs, he seems almost childlike.
’So we’re square, and I am guilt-free about staying here tonight.’
‘Hey!’ Grim holds up a pillow given to him by the ghosts, pressing it against Ace with both paws.
‘Just tellin’ you now, every room except the one where we sleep is buried in dust, so you’re findin’ your own space on your own.’
‘That’s the kind of attitude you take with visitors? Why don’t you just give up your space? Yuu is different, but you can sleep anywhere.’
‘Nah, I’m a genius--can’t sleep anywhere but in a bed.’
‘Liar! You slept like a baby through our whole potions class today.’
‘On your first day at school!?’ The ghosts angrily exclaim at Grim, and the lounge of Ramshackle Dorm grows lively once again. Ace’s cheerful personality brightens the whole atmosphere. It is like his depression of mere moments ago never actually happened: it is as clouds have parted, and Yuuya finds himself laughing.
Nothing that happens to him ever seems to make sense, but it may be that he is moving forward—just a little bit. If that’s the case, he might be able to get through tomorrow, too.
When Yuuya goes back to sleep, it is with a comfortably warm feeling."

The Phantom Blot & Crowley’s Identity
Who is the Phantom Blot?
⚠️(Book 6, 7, & Glorious Masquerade spoiler warning)⚠️
Tumblr media
Phantom Blot Similarities to Crowley
Overblots and Phantoms are closely related things in Twisted Wonderland, and based on the names, both are probably derived from the same Disney villain: the Phantom Blot. Given blot and phantoms are a major plot point, I wouldn’t be surprised if this Disney villain becomes an in-game character, maybe even a final boss? I want to point out the similarities the Blot has with Crowley to suggest they may be the same person.
The Phantom Blot was created in 1939 in Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot. This is right after the shorts that inspired Ramshackle Dorm: Thru the Mirror (1936) and Lonesome Ghosts (1937). Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) was released near the same time.
The timing may suggests that these things are related. I bring up Snow White because there’s lots of evidence to suggest that Crowley is based on the crow from Snow White (the school being themed on Snow White, his outfit being similar to Pomefiore’s uniform, the portraits in his office, etc.)
The Blot was first introduced in comics as a thief who only stole cameras of a “special type” and then destroyed them immediately. It was never said what was special about these cameras or why he destroyed them.
In the prologue, Crowley gives the Prefect the Ghost Camera, saying it’s “enchanted with a special kind of magic” to photograph both the body and soul of the subject.
His appearance resembles ink, sometimes it even drips off of him. “In costume, the Phantom Blot wears dark clothes that make him resemble a living ink-blot, or a shadow, hence his name.” Since he is constantly disguised, his only defining features are his glowing eyes.
Crowley is also always disguised, dresses darkly, and has glowing eyes.
The Blot’s abilities include- but are not limited to- disguise, identity theft, escapology, blackmail, bribing people with false promises, manipulation by using another’s greed/desire for revenge against them, high intelligence, and duping innocent people into acting as his unknowing agents.
Disguise/Identity Theft: Obviously Crowley is disguised with his mask, but he also proved he can change his form when he transformed into a ghost in the prologue. Though he claimed to use a transmutation potion to do it, we have nothing but his word to prove it. This is doubly suspicious since Azul has said that such potions are highly restricted and often illegal. Knowing this, it’s very strange that Crowley just happened to have a potion like that on him, and that he would waste it on a trivial battle with the Prefect and Grim. If he can pop a rare potion like it’s nothing, does that mean he has more? And why have them to begin with? What if he had it on him because he constantly uses them, and the Crowley we know isn’t his true form at all? Or, did he lie about the potion and he actually has an ability, item, or unique magic that changes his form?
The theory that he’s constantly transformed lends itself to many different “Crowley’s Identity” theories, and goes beyond what he looks like without the mask. I use it now to suggest he might be the Phantom Blot that’s taken a more humanoid form, but I also see compelling evidence in the “Malleus is Crowley” theory that this could work for too- but that’s for another post.
This also opens the possibility that he has been turning into other people/creatures and stealing their identities throughout the story. If so, it raises every interaction into suspicion. He could have easily spied on people or spread false information, who knows.
Escapology: I think this works into Crowley’s skill at avoiding his responsibilities and his dislike for the law. There’s less obvious evidence for this, but hear me out: in book 1, he escaped fighting Riddle in order to evacuate students; in book 5, you could argue he “escaped” dealing with Jamil’s overblot by leaving the school and not answering his phone; in book 6, he narrowly avoided losing his job when he was called to parliament. He has a knack for getting out of situations.
Blackmail/Manipulation: There’s too many examples to list them all, but to name a few: bribing Grim with tuna (and not paying up), bribing the Prefect with dorm repairs (only to not chip in at all and let the other students and the Shroud family pay for it), threatening to throw Grim off campus if he didn’t serve as a janitor, and deliberately withholding funding for food, dorm repairs, and a portal home from the Prefect to better exploit them and force them into doing tasks for him. He also only does this because he is aware of how completely reliant the Prefect is on him, having noted on their first meeting that the Prefect is “without a cent to their name” and doesn’t have any “ability to contact their guardian”. He straight up laughs after coming up with this plan so I think everyone already knows this.
Bribery: On top of “bribing” students to do things, he also accepts bribes. In Jamil’s overblot flashback, Crowley confessed to accepting a bribe from the Al-Asim family to accept Kalim into the school and make him a dormwarden. Interestingly, during this scene, Crowley’s tone of voice completely changed from it’s usual over-exaggerated one to a very serious tone. He also accepted a bribe from the Shroud family to allow Ortho to attend school as a student.
High Intelligence: The Blot is described as a master strategist. The trouble with this is that the game is not over, so I can’t really prove yet that Crowley does have some master plot in the works. He does seem to be hiding something though, which makes me think he probably has some plan going on.
Duping the Innocent: Once again, there isn’t really proof of this since the game is unfinished, but Crowley seems to know more than he’s letting on and has a tendency to manipulate other’s into doing things for him. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s been using the Prefect or other students to carry out a more nefarious plan with them none the wiser.
Personality wise, “The Blot is very vain and his desire for money and power is only surpassed by his desire to immortalize his name in ‘the annals of crime.’" “He is very cunning and can come up with hundreds of different plans, from stealing all of the money in the world, to murdering Mickey Mouse.”
Now I wouldn’t say Crowley has shown any murderous tendencies, but he fits the other traits to a T. One of his main personality traits is his desire for prestige and money, seen in how often he talks himself up and how he makes a point to tell people he’s the Headmage of a very famous school. He also hates being outdone by RSA.
The Blot isn’t just any villain-- he is the arch nemesis of Mickey Mouse (I didn’t even know he had one before now). He stands out from other comic villains by posing a true threat to Mickey’s life. “The best part (about Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot) by far is the Phantom Blot himself. Menacing and truly dangerous in a way most comedy adventure villains aren’t allowed to be. He’s a real threat while still being humorous and entertaining”.
Crowley definitely has the potential to be hiding a more sinister side. He’s goofy, over the top, and generally sleazy with no proof of being truly evil. However, he sometimes let’s slip the mask, such as when telling Jamil that he had to accept Kalim as a housewarden and his voice lost all it’s previous joviality, or when he seemed to know something was coming just before the CHARON attacked the college.
The Blot’s relevance to Mickey also caught my eye considering the presence of Mickey in the game. Mickey has a history of fighting inky, magic monsters in not only tv shows but games as well. I don’t fully know what the connection between Mickey and Crowley could be, but there’s more to Ramshackle’s history and magic mirror that I bet Crowley isn’t saying.
Magic is an integral part of the Blot’s character: he despises anything related to magic and often tries to steal it from others and destroy it. In some variations, he himself is a “powerful evil sorcerer” and gives his ink to other villains to make them stronger. More recent depictions of The Blot solidify him as a powerful, evil sorcerer who battles Mickey, uses ink to give others extreme power, kidnaps people, attempts to take over the world, and tries to eliminate all magic.
Despising magic is more of Rollo’s thing, so I think they’ll go more the powerful, evil sorcerer route. Crowley has shown a consistant interest in blot, from his explanations of it to the Prefect and later revealing that he searched for the blot crystals after overblots only to never find any because Grim ate them.
Idia mentioned wanting to find a way to “recycle” blot and use it as an energy source, and that STYX was working to research that. It’s possible Crowley is working with STYX considering he implied he knew CHARON was arriving before they did, he let them take him without a struggle, and he was in a private meeting with the two leaders of STYX.
If this is true, then it looks even more likely that he somehow plotted the overblots of the students to better study them. It may be he had good intentions, such as to help research a way to make blot safe. And I’d he did find a way, maybe he’ll start sharing blot with some other people.
Sage’s Island is also the ideal place to do such experiments since it’s remote, and if anything went wrong it wouldn’t hurt the mainland. The game makes it a point to show how hard it is to get on and off the island without the mirror during winter break and certain events.
With the kidnapping people point, this could be applied to how STYX kindnapped students, and you could argue that if Crowley is working with them, he kidnapped them by extension. But even before that, I argue that the Prefect is technically kidnapped as well. Crowley shows no desire to return them home. In fact, he does the opposite and encourages them to get used to the new world and forget about their homeland.
One old theory is that Crowley is constantly in a state of overblot himself, attributing to his mask and the gloves he never removes in order to hide the markings. It is also strange that the Dark Mirror has overblot markings, and that in the trailer, Crowley’s mage stone turns black at the end and his cloak falls into a pool of ink, suggesting he might have overblotted.
The Blot once told his daughter a reverse fairy tale story that portrayed himself as the hero and Mickey as the villain before telling her to dream of “happy endings.”
In general, this fits the theme of the game. The villains are heroes, and history seems to have been altered to portray the villains virtues over their immoral behaviors. The title of the game is Twisted Wonderland after all, so we know there’s something going on here.
Interestingly, though history was changed, it does not portray the heroes as villains. It more of an “everyone wins” situation where all get their happy endings.
Not to get back on the Malleus-is-Crowley theory, but this is also remarkably similar to what Malleus said before putting the students to sleep.
To close off on, the Phantom Blot seems like a really cool villain and I recommend checking out the wiki if you want something to do. Even if I’m completely wrong with the Crowley part, I do feel pretty confident saying that he was the inspiration for phantoms and overblots. Thanks for reading!

In a regular au of twisted wonderland but Yuu is a girl and keep it hidden quite well enough to pass as a guy with feminine features
And witch character of your choice say break in the Ramshackle as always but this time they discovered with Yuu wear a simple dress that the ghost given her as spear clothes since it laundry day, cooking in the kitchen singing a song from their world
I like listening Caravan Palace - Moonshine, since summer is nearly over and it fits well somehow
Content warning fem!mc/yuu
Pretending to be a man was fairly easy. Crowley had provided a binder since he couldn't let the school's reputation suffer. Which was insulting that a woman being at the school would make the school look bad. You know it's really so word doesn't get out about his tremendous screw up in calling a magicless human into this world and forcing her to be slave labor. You knew that was his game.
There was ups and downs to the act. You had to miss a week of in person classes every month or the beast men would catch on, and while it was nice to not have when you were angry being excused as hormones or being irrational the sting when you got called an asshole was new. Freeing in a way too.
A big downside to it all is the lying. You feel so much guilt keeping this from everyone you had made friends with. But you didn't know what would happen to you should it come out. Would you be forced of campus and made homeless? You didn't have an offical paperwork her so you couldn't get a job job. There was just too much to worry about more important then your guilty conscious.
A long day was ahead of you, it was Sunday which meant laundry day. The crow had set up a washer and drier in the old dorm you were in, and your friends all knew Sundays you cleaned so no one showed up. It was an unspoken rule, if anything happens on a Sunday you were on your own. Even Crowley managed to respect that.
You cleaned diligently as the washer ran in the background. The gentle rhythm of the water relaxing you as you swept. You didn't even noticed you had begun to sing. Swaying with the broom like a dance partner, the hem of your dress swishing with the movement. For this moment you weren't lost in another world, or afraid of what will become with. You were calm and Tranquil, flourishing as you sung and the repetitive actions.
Of course the peace never pasted long; as you finished your song you heard clapping and froze. If you didn't turn around they wouldn't know who it was. "This is not what I was expecting when Rook told me to check in on you prefect."
Vil the perfectionist had seen and while he was the least likely to spread the information it was Rook who had told him to check on you so two people knew.
"V-Vil! What brings you here?" Play dumb!
"I had thought you where injured by the way my vice-warden was behaved so I came to check on you. But little potato I can't believe you kept this from me." Vil seemed legitimately hurt.
"I've kept it from everyone. I have to."
"Then tell me why you *had* to." The dorm head of Pomefior sat on on of the chairs. And explain you did, you told him everything. The headmaster behavior, your fears, and how worn out you were. The guilt of keeping this silent. The washer had been long since done by the time you finish your venting.
"You should tell everyone, you have made many friends and powerful allies her potato. Even Malleus is indebted to you for solving his overbolt incident. That's more then enough power and influence to keep you safe alone, but you have myself in your corner too and I am quite good at pr." The blond had a point. Maybe you should come open, say fuck the self proclaimed generous man who made you an indentured servant.
"And if I *don't* want to?"
"Then I'll help you keep it secret." You were lucky Vil wasn't the type to hold things over your head. "But you'll have to join me on a date or two off campus."
Well you thought he wouldn't hold it over your head.

I really adore reading your different opinions and discussions about the Twist Cast, world, theories, and so on. Which is also why i wanted to ask you: If you could rate the 7 Dorms (+ Ramshackle dorm) based on environment, characters, interior design, etc. how would you rate them from a scale from 1 to 10...?
I'm curious to know. :)))
Tumblr media
Well and this is probably the scientist in me speaking 💦 those are a lot of different factors to consider in one score, and not all of them are equally weighed. Each dorm is very different; we don’t even get the same number of characters for each; the higher number of characters in Heartslabyul, for example, could either bring down or bring up the whole score). It wouldn’t be a clean or a fair game.
Instead of giving “overall” numerical scores, I’m just going to break them up into multiple categories, each list arranged from “favorite” to “least favorite.
By Environment:
Octavinelle — I’ve always wondered what it’s like under the sea… It’d be so tranquil just through Octavinelle’s big glass walls and watching the sea creatures drift by. So therapeutic! (And free, too 😂)
Heartslabyul/Pomefiore — Both feature gardens! I can get lost in them, smelling the roses along the way. Pomefiore is more traditionally pretty (ballrooms, grand decorations, etc), whereas Heartslabyul focuses on whimsy and wonder (more clutter, windy halls, etc). I appreciate both aesthetically!
Ramshackle — Nothing that standout, but also nothing too bad about it. Might be depressing to look out of a window and immediately spot a dead tree and a graveyard though. Also keep in mind that Ramshackle is located the farthest from the main buildings on campus, but I don’t mind this because walking a while helps me properly wake up. The isolation is also nice for an introvert like me.
Diasomnia — Everything looks dark and dead. Constantly worried about being poked by thorns.
Ignihyde — Does outside even exist to these nerds?/j Same issue as Diasomnia but worse somehow; too gloomy and dead looking. Looks creepier because of the tech glowing/casting some light in the darkness.
Scarabia + Savanaclaw — IT’S TOO HOT I’LL DIE OF HEAT STROKE
By Characters:
*Note: takes both individual characters + group dynamics into account*
Octavinelle — The most cohesive as a group, but each Octa boy also stands on their own as a strong and interesting character in my eyes. Helps that J word also belongs here 💕 Watching their schemes unfold is always a treat.
Scarabia — Jamil and Kalim are a comedic yet complicated combination; seeing them puts a smile on my face whether it’s because Jamil is suffering or because Kalim is being oblivious. Usually both.
Savanaclaw — The only one I’m meh on is Jack 😭 Best part of Savanaclaw is definitely when Leona steps up and everyone else backs up his leadership.
Ignihyde — Love Ortho, don’t love Idia (except for those few moments when he’s relatable), so it evens out. Appreciate how much Ortho cares for his brother and encourages him to try new things! Big fan of their wholesome brotherly dynamic, it’s basically one of the few times I can stand Idia.
Pomefiore — Of the group, I only like Rook. I don’t really care for their group dynamic.
Heartslabyul — No particularly strong feelings about anyone here. They’re alright.
Diasomnia — The only character I like of this group is Sebek, and even then the love is somewhat conditional (because as soon as he starts harassing people about Malleus, that love plummets). Silver and Lilia are okayish, but I dislike Malleus so that brings this dorm way down. I think Diasomnia is strongest from the found family angle.
Ramshackle — … What characters? (Yuu doesn’t count; they’re purposefully written as a blank slate and I would rather read about an already established character than an intentionally bland one. The ghosts also don’t count because there’s nothing to distinguish their personalities from one another; they don’t event get names 😭) Grim is a little meowmeow on his own…though I do really love the ghosts being Yuu and Grim’s found family.
By Interior Design:
Octavinelle/Pomefiore — Classic and fancy ✨
Heartslabyul — I’m a sucker for the Alice in Wonderland aesthetic.
Scarabia — Looks huge and fun to explore; probably full of interesting things to gawk at because of the wealth that has been poured into the dorm.
Ramshackle — Cozy, nothing offensive about it.
Diasomnia — Feels like I walked into a haunted castle. Doesn’t look very welcoming or inviting. Might get jumpscared at the next corner.
Ignihyde — Too inorganic and stiff because of all the tech and blue screens floating around. I’d probably get a migraine from just being in Ignihyde.
Savanaclaw — Outdoorsy energy. Would constantly be concerned about sun burn and bug bites (because of how “open” the dorm’s design is). Rope bridges would make me feel nauseous. Just overall not a fun time.
*Bonus* — By Uniform(s):
Noble Bell College :>
Octavinelle — Simple but effective. Also just love me a crisp suit 😩 and cummerbunds (since they accentuate the waist)…
Pomefiore — The colors as flowy fabric are so pretty together… It’s also interesting how they incorporated a kimono-like design into a very European styled/inspired dorm. It works surprisingly well! Adore the intricate fabrics in their sleeves; the complex apple pattern on the red, the sheer black material, etc.
Diasomnia — I have no clue how this uniform works (like, putting it on), but I will agree that it looks cool and intimidating. The hats are slightly silly, but they work well with the whole look.
Scarabia — Looks easy to move in! Love the gold accessories as well. I don’t like the garish flame pattern on their hotpants or the sandals.
Heartslabyul — Why are you wearing sneakers and plain white T-shirts. I thought the dorm uniform was supposed to be formal wear 😭
Ignihyde — Weirdly blocky and geometrical. Nothing that eye-catching to look at.
Savanaclaw — The biker-cowboy aesthetic is just NOT it, sis…
RSA
Ramshackle — … What dorm uniform? Grim’s striped bow? Cuz I’ll agree that it’s cute, but we have nothing else to go off of since Ramshackle isn’t formally recognized as a dorm.

Pop's Self-Aware AU: Intro
Featuring: Gender-Neutral Reader, Twisted Wonderland x Reader. Yandere x Reader, Self Aware Twisted Wonderland
Info:
This work is separate from "We've Seen The Devil," and while some aspects will remain the same, it will ultimately follow a different storyline.
Every student has been aged up two years (First years are 18, second years are 19 and third years are 20) to be more in line with American college ages.
You are implied to be in the same age range as the students, but you are not a student yourself.
You will always be gender-neutral.
You will always be written as someone who has isekaied into TWST unless otherwise stated/requested.
Staff will always be written platonically unless otherwise stated/requested.
~~~
"So, you've gone and downloaded Twisted Wonderland, have you? Have fun, but be warned, for this is no ordinary mobile game. In fact, one could argue it is not a game at all. One could even argue that it's actually a gateway to another world. Even knowing that, do you still wish to play?
No need to say anything; the answer is written all over your face. Come then, get to know this colorful cast of characters, but remember, this is a one-way interaction. Who knows what would happen if these characters were to get to know you, too.
It may be a little late to start worrying about that now, though. It seems one of the characters is already here to meet you. You're not going to ignore them, are you?"
>[Go to Ramshackle Dorm]
Yuu:
Your vessel has been with you from the very start. Like you, their home is not Twisted Wonderland but another world entirely. As a body without a soul, they were manufactured for the singular purpose of being a fill-in. That's who they're supposed to be. But what happens when a wandering soul takes refuge in the body? Well, that's how Yuu happens. Originally a malevolent spirit that has been haunting the world for unknowable years, they have now taken the form of an average teenager, passing their days rather idly. It's a stark difference from their previous life, for sure. The body they've taken is incapable of using magic, but they have enough spiritual power to cover the loss. What do they do with this spiritual power, you ask? Well, how about you go and ask them instead, hm?
Grim:
The second who came, but no less important. Though he claims to have known about you from the very start, you shouldn't believe him. Still, it is true that he was the first among the cast to have learned about you. I suppose one might be willing to give him credit for that, but really, you ought not to, lest it go straight to his head. He may appear unassuming for now, but you should never judge a book by its cover. There are rumors flying around that say he has dragon's blood flowing through his veins, you say? You shouldn't put too much stock into baseless gossip, you know?
The Ghosts:
Often overlooked, the Ghosts of Ramshackle Dorm spend most of their time indoors, away from prying eyes. The known facts about them can be counted on one hand. One thing's for sure, though: there's definitely more to them than meets the eye. It's been a long time since anyone's spoken to them, much less asked for their names. You might just be the first to do so in decades. It is a shame, then, that they are unable to answer you. Perhaps you could give them new names instead? Be careful, however, of the bond that may be formed should you choose to give a beast a name.
Has everyone been accounted for, then? Good, good. You better get going. You've stayed here long enough, and you won't want to be late for the Queen's tea party now, would you?
Literally anything Leona and I'm good, maybe idk prefect accidentally gets turned into a mountain lion beastman so they ask him to help them stop closing/slamming doors on their tail?
Took a little bit more time to get around to this one. Life, it's a thing. But I've got it out now! Sorry that Leona doesn't actually appear until the end and only for a little bit. -Shy
Oneshot Stats
Title: Potion Beastman?
Written By: Shy & Leona
Word Count: 2235
Characters: The Prefect, Ace Trappola, Deuce Spade, Grim, Leona Kingscholar, The Ramshackle Ghosts, Divus Crewel
Other Notes: Crewel has a very minor role.
As the smoke cleared from the potion that was dumped onto the floor, Ace and Deuce gaped at the sight they saw. There stood the prefect, unaware of the new appendages they gained. Meanwhile, Grim was laughing his ass off on the floor. Ace kicked him lightly, getting a snarl out of the cat-like creature.
“What was that for!?” he snapped, glaring at Ace, paws on his side, imitating how a person would put their hands on their hips.
“Stop laughing! This really isn’t funny. We’re going to get in so much trouble with-”
“Do you puppies care to explain what happened here?”
Ace, Deuce, and Grim all spun around quickly to see Professor Crewel standing there, his whip in his hands as he glared down at them. The prefect looked up at him in confusion.
“The potion got dropped on the floor, I don’t know what else happened,” the prefect responded to his question with a shrug, starting to head to get the materials to clean up.
“No. Prefect, stay. You three,” Crewel pointed at the other three. “You find the materials to clean this mess up. Stay here after class.”
Ace, Deuce, and Grim were quickly off to get the tools to clean up the mess they had made in their fight over the potion they made with the prefect’s help. The prefect looked at Crewel inquisitively.
“Do you know what happened to you?”
“No? What’s happened-” the prefect began as they started to check themself, cutting themself off once spotting the tail they had gained.
“You’ve gained the features of a mountain lion. The effects should wear off by tomorrow. In the meantime, you’re stuck with those features.”
The prefect sighed, facepalming. “Are you kidding me.”
“Those puppies will get the punishment they need,” Crewel said, half to himself and half to the prefect as he walked away.
Ace and Deuce got back, beginning to clean up the mess of the potion as Grim dumped some cleaning supplies on the floor next to them. The prefect crossed their arms in irritation, looking down at the three boys who caused the mess in the first place.
“Seriously? This isn’t even the right effect!” The prefect waved their hands at themself. “You made me into some sort of cat person! This was supposed to be a water resistance potion! Ugh, I can’t believe you messed this up so badly. This isn’t even close to the effect we were looking for. Now we’re going to have to do this project all over again, likely after Crewel is done punishing the three of you for being stupid.”
“Yeah yeah,” Ace started, rolling his eyes as he stood up. “We’ll get this project with no problem. It was just a little mistake, that’s all.”
“Uh,” Deuce interjected, causing the rest of the friend group to look at him. “The prefect does have a point. You started boiling the potion when the instructions said to put it on a low simmer.”
“Yeah? Well you put this, glittery stuff, in way too early! It’s not my fault!” Ace snapped back in a snippy tone.
Deuce sighed. “I didn’t blame just you for this. Though it’s not like the three of us can just brush off what happened no problem. We’re going to receive punishment for it, whether we want it or not.”
Grim huffed. “I didn’t do anything wrong. Crewel’s got it all wrong!”
“Trying to claim you’re all goody-two shoes now Grim?” Ace said, a malicious smirk painting itself on his face. “Don’t even try that. You were the one who was going to try and take all the credit for our hard work and dropped the bottle with the potion onto the floor.”
“Are the three of you done?” the prefect snapped, glaring at the three they were talking to.
The three looked at the prefect with wide eyes for a moment before looking down shamefully. Grim quickly perked back up afterwards. Ace looked off to the side while Deuce rubbed the back of his neck, embarrassed.
“I’m sorry, prefect,” Deuce said, biting his lip before looking back at them.
“Yeah, sorry,” Ace followed soon after, rubbing his hands together nervously.
“Hmph. I guess I’m sorry, henchman,” Grim huffed out, turning his head away in disdain.
The prefect raised an eyebrow. “Is that the best I’m gonna get out of you, Grim?”
“What do you mean ‘the best you’re gonna get’ outta me?” Grim jeered, a puff of smoke escaping his mouth.
The prefect sighed. “Fine, whatever. The three of you will receive enough punishment from Crewel as is.”
The three released a synchronous sigh of relief. Though the tail the prefect now had still swayed with irritation, their arms were no longer crossed and they breathed in and out, trying to calm themself down after what happened.
Class was released for the day and the prefect was left on their own. Their normal companions after class were stuck with Professor Crewel, receiving their punishment for wrecking the experiment and turning the prefect into a beastman temporarily. They went to close the door to the classroom as Crewel instructed, only to yelp in surprise and turn towards the door. Their tail slid out before it was trapped once they turned around. The prefect sighed, closing the door for good this time.
A bunch of scents hit them all at once when they turned back to the hallway. Someone’s cologne, another’s tuna breath who passed right in front of them, the scent of the markers from the classroom down the hall, the scent of the outside wafting in from the open windows. The prefect’s head was already starting to pound from it all. All the noise of the after school crowd didn’t help either, from everyone talking to their friends to those goofing off. The prefect covered the ears on top of their head and squeezed their eyes shut, trying to shut out the world.
“How does anyone deal with this much all at once?” they muttered to themself, opening their eyes to a squint as they attempted to navigate the halls.
Everything seemed to blur together as the prefect tried to navigate this new and overwhelming world. Thankfully, they were soon outside heading for Ramshackle dorm. Everything was quieter out here and less smelly without all the students to clog everything up. A breath escaped the prefect, one they weren’t aware they were holding until it was released.
They entered their dorm, throwing their school stuff to the side temporarily and flopped down onto the rickety couch. It groaned underneath them with age, complaining about their graceless fall onto it. The prefect sighed, getting up once again. They grabbed their homework and set it down on the coffee table, heading to the kitchen to grab something to eat. They took a look around in the fridge, finding nothing they wanted there, they went to close the fridge, only to flinch as they almost closed the door on their tail again.
“That’s the second time already,” they grumbled, closing the fridge door.
The prefect went through different cupboards, eventually finding a suitable snack before returning to the coffee table. They sat on the floor next to it, grabbing out a pen to complete their work with. The homework they had to do was nothing difficult, just finishing up a few things they weren’t able to complete in class. It wasn’t something that would take them much time, especially since Grim wasn’t here to distract them.
“Oh, why do you have ears and a tail now?” one of the Ramshackle ghosts asked, appearing before the prefect, their head in their hands.
“Did something happen?” another one piped in, appearing next to the other one.
The prefect sighed. “Potion accident with Ace, Deuce, and Grim. They’re currently undergoing punishment from Professor Crewel.”
“How long will it last?” the third one finally appeared, appearing on the other side of the first one.
“Crewel said it should be gone by tomorrow.”
“Well that’s wonderful news!” the first one exclaimed, a big smile across their face.
The prefect smiled softly back at them. “I suppose it is good news. I won’t have to keep accidentally closing doors on my tail then, because it won’t exist anymore.”
The second ghost tilted their head inquisitively at the prefect. “Closing doors on your tail? Isn’t there a way to avoid that?”
The prefect shrugged. “I don’t know any of those methods if they exist.” They paused for a moment to think. “Well, they must exist, because I don’t see Leona or Jack close doors on their tails.”
“You could ask them to give you tips!” the third ghost chirped, clapping their hands together.
The prefect hummed in response. “I suppose I could. You think they would be in their dorm at this time? Well, Leona has Spelldrive practice and Jack has his individual sports club. They’re probably both attending their separate things.”
“When do you get done with your homework?” the first ghost asked, looking at the papers in front of the prefect.
“I’m almost done with it. I just have this last question to finish up.”
“Well, you can wait at their dormitory after you finish your homework,” the second ghost suggested.
“I suppose I’ll do that. And also ask how to deal with these heightened senses. I got overwhelmed in the hallways earlier when everyone was getting out of class.”
“That’s definitely a good idea, especially since you’re supposed to attend one of those Heartslabyul parties later tonight,” the third ghost added in.
The prefect paused. “Crap, I almost forgot about that. Thank you for reminding me.”
They finished writing out their answer, then put their homework away where they would remember to pick it up for the day when they would turn it in. They changed out of their school clothes into a set of clothes more comfortable before heading out to go to the mirror chamber. The breeze was nice and calming outside, any voices to be heard far away at this time, all the way at the sports fields. The prefect shrugged, supposing they could hear them because of the heightened senses they obtained.
The prefect arrived at the mirror chamber, quickly entering the Savannaclaw mirror. Everything seemed to warp around them, the familiar weird feeling in their stomach knotting up until they were at the dorm, the feeling fading away as they stepped away from the mirror. They went inside of the dormitory, barely any students to be seen. Most of them were at clubs anyway, and the ones that were here were likely only here because they weren’t allowed to attend their clubs at this time for various reasons.
They glanced around for any signs of the three they were most familiar with, Jack, Ruggie, or Leona. The prefect shook their head when they noticed nothing about the three of them being here recently. They paused for a moment, noticing how there wasn’t much sensory stimulation to be had here, with few scents and few sounds. There was just enough of anything here to let them know that things were alive here to begin with.
“Well, I suppose that makes sense,” the prefect mumbled to themself. “This dorm is mostly made of beastmen.”
They decided to head towards Leona’s room, quickly finding their way there after having spent some nights there. The prefect shook the memory of those events away, opening the door to the recognisable room. There was a very light scent in here, some sort of perfume the prefect couldn’t identify, though it was likely something from the Sunset Savannah, Leona’s homeland.
The prefect flopped down onto the floor, the place where they had slept during their nights in this room. It was easy to get comfortable with the soft rugs there and wait for the resident of this room to arrive. The prefect’s ears flicked in contentment as relaxation spread through their muscles.
“What are you doing here again, herbivore?” Leona asked as he entered his room, not looking at the prefect for the moment, simply flopping down onto his bed.
The prefect hopped up to a standing position, going over to Leona’s bed and leaning over him. “You see, I have a bit of an issue.”
Leona’s eyes widened as he saw the ears and tail and sat up. “How did you become a mountain lion?”
“Potion.”
Leona sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Let me guess, Ace, Deuce, and the furball?”
The prefect nodded. “Grim dropped the potion on me and Ace and Deuce messed up the potion itself in the first place. I’m still annoyed with them, but Crewel is taking care of them.”
“I see. So what do you want me to do about this?”
“Coping mechanisms. How the hell do you cope with these extra appendages? How do you cope with the world at large? It’s so overwhelming, all the sounds and smells. How do you live?”
Leona snorted. “You learn.”
The prefect grumbled, crossing their arms. “Nuh-uh, you’re helping me with this one.”
Leona groaned. “Fine, I'll help you. You’re attending the Heartslabyul party later after all, right?”
The prefect nodded. “I had almost forgotten about it earlier. I’ll do a favour for you later.”
Leona grinned crookedly at the prefect. “That’s what I thought. Come here then, let’s start with how to not close doors on your tail.”
Another reverse au interaction or continuation? (I like the reverse au)
It has been EONS since I have received this ask, but now I know exactly which of them shall be tonight's Mother of Fucker. Idk this is kinda more of a character introduction than anything.
CW: Yandere, I tried to salvage this irreverent/sarcastic Yuu but idk if it worked, reader is Yuu, canon-typical racism, canon-typical Sebek slander, murder/execution mention, LIGHTLY IMPLIED planning of genocide, implied abuse
Tumblr media
You swore today was going to be a normal day when you woke up.
You had awoken, got ready for your inevitably exhausting day at NRC, and the moment you were about to be on your merry way, you were greeted by none other than Lilia Vanrouge and... Sebek with his hair down?
Lilia explained that apparently there was a second Sebek running around, this being the second in question, and long story short he was dumping Diasomnia's 6'2 crocodile surplus on you.
And as Lilia left, you could see for the barest second that this strange other Sebek looked back at him with the shiftiest eyes you had ever seen. Even Jamil, pre ass-kicking, looked less shifty than this rat bastard who had been placed before you, but everyone in this school was either shifty or a rat bastard or very much both, so he fit right in.
The differences from the Sebek you were used to were minute, but noticeable. Most apparent was his hairstyle, not overloaded with gel to keep it upright, and instead left to hang down. Funnily, it almost made him look like a completely different person. The front of his blazer was buttoned up completely, and the ribbon signifying his dorm was missing, as well as the golden pin to go with it. If it weren't for the bright green magestone, you wouldn't have been able to tell he was even in Diasomnia.
You blinked owlishly up at him, and he looked down at you before promptly looking away and bowing his head, as if to avoid eye contact.
" Greetings, prefect. I don't want any trouble. Just say the word, and I will leave," he said simply. He raised his head again, still very pointedly not looking you in the eye as his gaze scanned around Ramshackle. He seemed quietly surprised by his surroundings.
You looked at him in confusion, deciding to just be a polite host, " Uh... No, you're okay. You can grab a snack and sit down, if you want. I don't have a lot of movies, but I've memorized the passwords to Cater's streaming subscriptions."
His voice suddenly changed as a faint confusion ghosted over his features before being replaced by a polite, small smile, " Ah, forgive me. It seems you are quite different from the Ramshackle Prefect that I have been accustomed to,"  he bowed halfway at the waist, one arm bent behind his back as the other reached to gingerly take your hand in his and raise the back of your palm to his lips.
Hearing Sebek's boisterous, proud shouts replaced by a low, dulcet tone as his gloved thumb traced over your knuckles rendered you speechless. You could only blink through your sheer lack of comprehension. You were being handled like glass, in stark contrast to the occasional times your usual Sebek would unceremoniously pick you up by the collar to plop you down wherever he saw fit.
The subtle tilt of his head and his half-lidded eyes sent a whirl of the most baffled butterflies in Wonderland alight in your gut as he finally looked into your eyes. Sebek... kinda looked good with his hair down... That was all you would say. You dumbly looked up at him as he stood at full height again, your hand still over his. His smile returned as he saw your expression, and he spoke again.
" I am Sebek Zigvolt," he placed his other hand over yours, and don't think anyone d been this blatantly into you since your last conversation with Rook. " I am honored to be your houseguest."
" O-Oh. Thanks...!" you squeaked out.
His expression became gentler, if that was even possible, and he continued, " Pardon my ignorance, but what is your name? I'm afraid I've never heard the housewarden of Ramshackle referred to as anything more polite than the Prefect, at least from Dawn Phoenix College."
" I'm Yuu. I'm not much housewarden as I am the only non-cat to live here, I guess," you paused as his words fully registered in your brain, " Wait- Dawn Pheonix? I've never heard of that."
The... transfer student(?) looked puzzled, " It is the school attended by His Highness and Grand General Vanrouge," he seemed somewhat... irritated having to say it, a shocking development, given that the Sebek you knew made his downright worship of the former a good three-fourths of his entire personality. " But it appears as if this place can boast that same accolade."
" Yeah. This is Night Raven College. Where's Dawn Pheonix located?" you asked. You were usually tasked with being the resident helper, so you began to naturally slip into that mode.
" Sage Island, if memory serves," he mused, before coyly smiling at you. You felt his hand move from covering yours to... holding your chin up?!?
" If I may, I must admit I do enjoy this Night Raven College far more."
You froze at the contact like you had been raised in a nunnery, and you felt your face heat up. From your throat came a noise like the peep of a tiny bird, and you immediately turned your head in embarassment, squeezing your eyes shut. He chuckled, and-
" THAT IS QUITE ENOUGH!!"
A large figure came between the two of you, a heavy hand over your face shoving you back so hard you fell square on your butt, and the push from the other hand hardly made your companion stumble back.
Sebek, your Sebek, had suddenly arrived, here just in time to give you your daily headache. He turned to yell at you, but your attention caught on the expression of the second. The other crocodile turned to look at him with a sharp, silent stare, green eyes wide and pupils slitted. It was almost startling, how his demeanor changed from gentle and flirtatious to seething anger barely being restrained.
You expected him to do something, but he stood completely still, gaze locked completely on the yelling guard as he scolded you about propriety. What surprised you was yet another complete 180 in tone, an amicable smile to rival Kalim's appearing on his face as he set a hand on your frenemy's shoulder.
" Come now, brother! It's just a mere human. I see no need to bother."
Sebek whirled around upon feeling his touch, still scowling. " Then just what were you doing, TOUCHING them like that?!?"
Not-Sebek seemed completely unbothered by his words, " Ah, don't be that way! I was just having a little bit of fun. It wouldn't have gone much farther, I assure you."
This statement angered both Sebek and you, the heat on your cheeks increasing in intensity from your embarrassment mixing with newfound indignation at his implication that you were "just" some human toy he could have "fun" with. Sebek opened his mouth before you could, " HOW DARE YOU? The prefect is NOT some- S-Some PLAYTHING!! They may be a puny human, but they can't be that easy to string along!"
You scoffed in offense as you looked at both of them, and you saw the cornered half-fae's gaze flit towards you for the barest second before his smile faded slightly. His eyes narrowed somewhat as he looked at Sebek, " And what's got you so interested in what I do with them? To think, you'd be keeping His Excellency waiting so."
Sebek's attitude changed in an instant. You facepalmed while Sebek squawked, " T-The young master?!? He's waiting?!?"
Not-Sebek nodded and tutted at him with crossed arms as if disappointed, " Since you seem so concerned about this human, I had naturally assumed you would be here. I was sent to fetch you for urgent business, since we all know just how much you are relied on."
" WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME WHEN I WALKED IN?!?" he all but screeched, before darting out the door, " I'M COMING, MASTER MALLEUS!!"
The remaining first-year snickered wryly to himself as his adversary practically disappeared into thin air, muttering to himself, " Works every time... boot-licking sucker."
He turned to you, his self-satisfied sneer pulling the exact same disappearing act when he saw your expression. With a face like he had been injured, he dropped to one knee before you, holding his head low and crossing one arm over his chest.
" I beg that you forgive me. You are my gracious host, and this is not the first time I have had to utter such slanderous lies in front of a crown loyalist. It was done for the sole purpose of preserving your safety," he said with as much of a smooth, even tone as one could while simpering on the floor.
You gawked at him, still angry, before speaking your piece, " My safety? In front of Sebek?? The greatest threat HE poses to me is rendering me deaf! I'll tell you one thing, and it's that this school is full of two-faced con artists, and I'm sick of it! I'm sure as hell not gonna have one staying in my dorm without proof of improvement!"
He looked up like you had struck him. You pointed firmly toward the door, " Go! Go on back to wherever your overgrown lizard prince is skulking around! Shoo!"
You saw the green locks lower again, hiding a sharp-toothed snarl and brightened green eyes as the crocodile fae bristled at your rejection. His hands balled into white-knuckled fists as his face became politely remorseful, and he stood up. Not-Sebek looked at you with mournful, yet determined eyes, " I will give you the proof you desire as soon as possible, honored housewarden."
" Good for you, now get!" you huffed.
He bowed his head once more before leaving, walking out the door just like his counterpart.
Once he had walked far enough away, a rage overcame him, dead silent and blazing. Not towards you, an innocent human would never earn his wrath, but towards that disgusting, dirty sympathizer that had interrupted his time in your presence. Finally, someone else he could truly dedicate his cause to, and yet, through pure meddling, he would need to get back into your good graces.
" ...to the gallows... no, the guillotine."
His words came out in a growling hiss, swearing his revenge... just another head to put on a pike once the time was right. Once the dragon falls, it'd only be a matter of time until his circus of a court will follow at the hand of the future Lord Zigvolt, dragon-slaying usurper of Briar Valley, and the last remainder of fae blood.
A glittering hoard, a towering throne, and the corpses of every fae in the Valley rotting on the outside just as within... A crown on his head, just like it belongs. A shimmering ring on your finger, just where it belongs. All of it, his dream, the thing that made everything worth it. Every straining smile, every time he was forced to say "human" as if it were a dirty word, every time he'd seen poor Silver limping through the halls at another ungodly hour.
Some day, it all had to come to an end... Didn't it...?
