**********************************************************************
She jerked backwards, eyes widening at the sight of the thick, crimson liquid running down her arm. A shudder ran through her, throat seizing up as she tried to suck in air, her other hand coming up to rub at her arm. Suddenly it was on both hands and she stared at them in horror.
A voice called from below her, pained, but firm. “Superwoman…it’s okay. Don’t—ugh—don’t panic. It’s alright.” The voice was soothing at first, but when she looked down to find its owner, the body next to him took up all she saw, a vicious, gaping hole where his heart used to be.
She peddled backwards, stumbling to the floor, apologies falling from her lips. “I’m sor—I’m so sorry. It was just—he was hurting you and I—I didn’t mean to do this, I swear—”
The boy reached out to her but grunted in pain, hand dropping to hold his side. “(Y/N)—”
Her eyes met his once more, and he could see the tears swimming in her gaze as she whispered, “I’m sorry.” She shot from the ground, disappearing in the sky in a blur of red and blue.
He reached for her calling out, “(Y/N)!” He lost sight of her as quickly as she left, and the other two ran up to him.
“Tim!” The taller boy stopped, looking down at the corpse next to him, jaw dropping in shock. “…Oh my god. Wh—what happened?” He looked at the other. “Tim?”
He shook his head, eyes meeting the shorter one. “Bart, I need you to get to Central and find Wally and Dick and tell them to get to the cave.” Bart nodded and spun, taking off in a flash of yellow lightning.
The other boy knelt, picking him up off the ground. “Tim, what happened?”
He groaned, hand moving to hold his side once more. “(Y/N) killed him on accident.” Tim looked at him. “Conner, I can get back to the tower on my own, but I need someone to get to Jason.” He sucked in a breath, reaching up and wiping the blood from his nose though it still bled despite him. “Kori and Roy will probably be with him, but right now, we need everyone who can search.”
Conner nodded, steadying Tim on his feet before rising from the ground; he looked down at him. “Do you know where she went?”
Tim shook his head, grimace crossing his lips as he muttered, “I don’t think we’re gonna find her for a long time.” He glanced up at Conner. “Go. Now.” The boy nodded, flying off, and Tim took a few steps forward before stumbling into a wall. He heaved a sigh, picking up his transmitter from his belt.
He pushed a button, and a few seconds later, a voice came over the line. What’s going on?
Tim frowned and asked, “What’s your E.T.A. to earth?”
Eighteen hours. What happened?
Tim glanced back at the body, the puddle of blood seeming to consume it. “It was (Y/N). She… she killed someone.”
The voice on the line was silent, then it said, Superman is on his way. Call me when he gets there.
The line went dead, and Tim sighed, sliding down the wall. He lent his head back, eyes staring up at the sky, waiting for (Y/N)’s father.
***Later In The Cave***
The group stood in silence, faces molded in a mixture of shock and pain. Tim yelped as Alfred pushed on his side. “Ow shi—Alfred!”
The man hummed, wrapping the cloth around his side. “Apologies, Master Tim.” He tucked an ice-pack between the layers. “With the broken ribs you’ve got, it would be best to keep ice close. I also advise against any harsh movements.”
Tim nodded, gaze turning to the man beside his oldest brother. “Clark.”
The man looked up from the ground, voice stricken as he lamented, “I can’t hear her. She’s…completely silent…” his eyes held a deep and sorrowed pain. “I can’t hear my baby girl.”
The others listened, then Jason stepped forward, expression grim and solemn. “Tim, what exactly happened in San Francisco today?”
The boy looked over at him before dropping his gaze to the ground, sighing, “What didn’t happen out there, Jason?”
Tim shook his head, clearing his throat. “It was a routine mission, patrol the area before getting back to the tower, but Bart called and said that he saw what looked to be a meta-human going on a rampage. We all met up and started fighting, and while it took some time, we managed to get him to an abandoned warehouse complex. Turns out, he not only had super strength, but he could also make copies of himself, and when I figured out that the original was susceptible to damage while he had copies, I sent Conner, Bart, and (Y/N) to fight the copies while I found him.”
He paused, picking at his nails. “What I didn’t expect was for him to throw me into a forklift and break three of my ribs. I tried to get up, but before I could move, his hands were around my throat, and he was lifting me up off the ground.” He absentmindedly reached up, fingers brushing the purple hand-prints around his pale neck. “Everything was happening so fast, and I couldn’t get my bearings in time. My vision started to get dark, and I could hear (Y/N) shouting from behind, and the next thing I knew, I was being dropped again. When I could see and breath clearly again, I looked up, and I saw (Y/N)…I saw her…”
A hand rested on his shoulder, and he glanced up, seeing Conner nodding firmly at him. He let out a breath and said, “And I saw (Y/N) standing there, and the meta-human lying in a pool of his own blood and he had…he had a hole through his chest.”
Quiet gasps were heard around the cave, and Tim looked up at Clark. “It was just an accident Clark, she didn’t mean to do it. She was trying to save me.” The man didn’t look at him, eyes glued to the floor as he swallowed thickly, obviously thinking about what he was just told.
Jason stepped up to Tim. “Do you know where she went?”
Tim shook his head. “No, she took off before I could stop her.”
“So, you’re pretty much saying that she could be anywhere.” Everyone turned their head at the sound of Dick’s voice.
Tim nodded. “That’s why I called everyone here. We need help trying to find her.”
Dick turned to Wally. “You and Bart comb Central.” The two took off, and Dick turned to Kori. “You should take Roy and go check around hideouts the Outlaws frequent.” Kori and Roy made their way to the stairs. “Tim, you sit out and monitor everything. Conner, you can help me and Jason check Gotham. Clark…”
Dick walked over and resting a hand on his arm. “You should go home and tell Lois about what’s happened, then check Metropolis.” Clark nodded, but made no move to go, and Dick squeezed his arm gently. “Clark.” He looked at Dick. “We will find her, I promise.”
Clark nodded again, this time finding his feet; he paused as he reached them and turned to Jason. “Jason?” He turned, waiting for Clark to continue. “I don’t really have any doubt that you’ll be the one to find her tonight…” His voice soft as he asked, “But when you do, will you tell her that I’m not angry at her?” Jason nodded, and they watched Clark leave.
Dick faced them, tone quiet. “Conner, you and I can take North and East Gotham, Jason, you should take South and West.”
They nodded at his words, each moving to the exit. Tim’s voice reached them before they could leave. “Jason! Can you wait for a minute?”
Jason nodded at the others, watching them leave before moving back to Tim. “What’s up?”
Tim hung his head and whispered, “It’s my fault, Jason. I should’ve been more vigilant when I was fighting. If I had gotten up sooner, none of this would’ve happened. I’m sorry—”
A hand rested on his shoulder and he looked up; Jason stared at him seriously. “Tim, it wasn’t your fault. And it wasn’t (Y/N)’s either.” He squeezed Tim’s shoulder gently. “Okay?” Tim nodded and Jason let go, though he saw the tears in Tim’s eyes.
***
Jason crouched atop the ledge staring down at the city, a frown crossing his lips. He didn’t bother to look up at the sound of someone’s boots hitting the rooftop, or when they stopped beside him. “Have you found her?”
He snorted, eyes following a car on the busy road. “Do you honestly think I’d be up here if I had?” He glanced up, seeing Dick slightly grinning at him.
Dick lowered himself on the ledge until he sat next to Jason, legs hanging freely off the edge. The two of them simply stared out at the streets, observing the cars carrying their passengers’ home.
After a few moments, Dick asked, “Where do you think she is?”
He watched Jason shrug and murmur, “I have no idea…I’ve searched everywhere that has any kind of meaning to us and I still can’t find her.” He looked at Dick, eyes filled with trepidation. “I’m worried about her, Dick…she’s all alone out there, thinking about what’s happened, and it’s eating me up.” He shook his head, letting out a sigh. “I shouldn’t have left San Francisco earlier. I should’ve stayed.”
Dick’s eyebrows shot up at his words. “Wait, you were in San Fran earlier today?”
Jason nodded. “Spent the night with her but left in the morning.” He thumped the heel of his armored boot against the wall. “I could’ve stopped that meta and she wouldn’t have done anything.”
“You’re really torn up about her killing someone, Jason.”
Jason turned to Dick, shouting. “Of course I am!” He placed a hand against his chest. “I kill bad people because they’re evil and they deserve it. I wouldn’t want (Y/N) or any of the people I care about to follow the path that I do.” He paused, voice lowering. “(Y/N) is…a good person. She’s kind and caring and she loves everyone with everything she has. She protects those that are innocent and protects those she loves even more fiercely.”
He sighed heavily, his voice lowering to a whisper. “I’d never want her to have to think about the people she kills like I do.”
“You’re telling me you actually think about the people you kill?”
Jason let out a mirthless laugh, his gaze returning to the city. “Contrary to popular belief and what you see when you look at me, I am not a heartless killer, Dick. I know the consequences of my actions, and believe me, I think about them every moment I’m alive.” He stood and looked down at his brother. “I’m going to hit my apartment and take a nap before getting back out there.”
Dick nodded, observing him as he started climbing down the ledge; he called out to Jason. “She’s really changed you in the year you’ve been together.”
Jason snorted, “Don’t tell anyone, I’ve got a reputation to keep.” He paused, hand gripping the ledge as he replied, “ But yeah she has… and only in the best ways, Dickhead.”
“Hey!”
***
The apartment was quiet, just as he’d left it the day before, and he shucked his helmet and jacket off, placing them on the table. He bent over, undoing the laces from his boots, kicking them off before reaching up and pulling his domino mask off, raising a hand to rub the fatigue from his eyes. It was a futile attempt to delay the inevitable, and as he made his way to his room, he mentally took note of how long he needed to sleep before getting back in the field to look for her.
As he walked through the hallway, a quick intake of air sounded through the apartment, and Jason reached to his hip, pulling a pistol. He stepped carefully through the hall, checking the rooms before he came up to his bedroom. Sucking in a quiet breath, he stepped into the room, gun following his gaze as it landed on a huddled mass beside the window.
He walked silently over to it, and upon closer inspection, his eyes widened, voice laced with disbelief as he questioned, “(Y/N)?”
She raised her head, eyes red rimmed and bloodshot. “Jason?” she whispered, unsure of herself.
He lowered the gun, placing it on the nightstand before moving to her, hands grasping her upper arms. “(Y/N), we’ve been looking everywhere for you.” He shook his head. “Why didn’t you call one of us and tell us where you were?” She didn’t respond to him, simply looking down. Jason let go of one of her arms, gently cupping her cheek. “Doll?”
He felt something wet drip onto his hand, and finally, she sat up straight and stared at him. The blanket she’d been covered with fell away, and his gaze dropped to her arms. His eyes widened at the sight of the faint red smeared across her arm. “(Y/N),” He breathed.
“I kept scrubbing and scrubbing, but no matter how hard or how much I did, it wouldn’t come off.” The tears were rolling down her cheeks now, and she lowered her head. “I didn’t mean to do it Jason. I just…”
Jason reached for her, pulling her into his arms and hoisting her up. He reclined against the headboard, arms wound tightly around her. “Shh…it’s alright…”
“I killed him, Jason.” (Y/N) pulled back enough to look him in the eyes. “I kept yelling for him to let Tim go, but he wouldn’t. I could hear Tim’s heartbeat fading and I just reacted.” She gazed at her arm. “I put my arm through his chest, Jason!” (Y/N) stared at her arm as if it didn’t belong to her body, an alienated limb, then she felt herself being lifted again. “Jason what—”
He said nothing, maneuvering her into the bathroom where he sat her on the sink. She watched as he pulled a rag from the cabinet and reached below the sink for a bottle. He poured the solution into the rag, then gently took her arm, wiping it. His gaze was unreadable, but it was anything but hard; in fact, it was soft, and before she knew it, the remaining blood had been wiped away.
Jason threw the towel into the hamper and turned back to her, cradling her face in his hands. “It’s all gone, (Y/N)…it’s not there anymore.” Her eyes lowered to her arm before they rose back to his, and he pressed his forehead against hers. “You don’t have to think about this anymore, doll.”
“I killed him though, Jason.”
She felt him shake his head and he asked, “What would’ve happened if you hadn’t?” She went silent, and Jason asked again, “(Y/N), what would’ve happened to Tim if you hadn’t protected him?”
Clearing her throat, she whispered, “He would’ve died.”
“No, he would’ve been murdered.” Jason looked in her eyes. “(Y/N),you saved Tim’s life.”
“At the expense of another’s.”
Jason let out a sigh and nodded. “Sometimes that’s the only way…but (Y/N)?” She looked at him and he insisted clearly, “What you did today…does not make you a killer, and it doesn’t make you a murderer…do you understand that?”
(Y/N) blinked at him before looking away and muttering, “…You should call everyone and tell them where I am.”
Jason reached down and picked her up from the sink, flicking off the light and moving to the bed. He lowered her down before crawling under the covers beside her, pulling her to him and raising the covers to their chins.
“I’ll call later.” He pressed his lips to her forehead. “Right now, the only thing that matters is you.” (Y/N) bit her lip to keep from crying, and a moment later, Jason quipped, “Remember that time that you threw me out of a third story window?”
(Y/N) let out a watery laugh, burying her face in his chest. “You’re never gonna let that go, are you, Jason?”
She glanced up at him, and he leaned down, pecking her nose. “If I keep getting a reaction out of it, probably not.”
(Y/N) searched his eyes for a moment then whispered, “I love you, Jason.”
He nodded, pressing his lips to hers. “I love you too, (Y/N).” He curled his arms around her, caging her to his chest. “Get some sleep…I’ll be here when you wake up.”
She did as he said, tucking her head under his chin. “Promise?”
“Cross my heart, doll.”

Chapter 4 – It Couldn’t Hurt
Chapter 1       Chapter 3
Tim shifted uncomfortably in the hallway.  He was not looking forward to this despite having volunteered for it.  He took a deep breath to steel himself for the confrontation.  Despite Dick and Kori checking in on Marinette in the hospital (and taking care of her hospital bill) and Dick, Kori, and Mar’i calling her a few days later, nobody had yet broached the identity discussion.  He looked up at the door and knocked.
He tapped his thighs restlessly while he waited for Marinette to open the door for him.  He barely kept his face from registering his surprise when the door was opened by a man.  Was Marinette dating someone?  Was she married?  It never occurred to him to think about her with someone else already.  It made sense though.  Someone as amazing as Marinette was bound to be with someone already.
“Can I help you?”  The man prompted him with a smile.
Tim almost jumped at the sound.  “Hi.  I was looking for Marinette Dupain-Cheng?”
“You sound unsure if that’s who you’re looking for.” The man looked at him unsure.
“No.  Sorry. My name is Tim Drake.  I’m Dick Grayson’s brother.  Marinette was watching my niece when the attack on the zoo happened.  We wanted to check in on her and make sure she is still doing okay.”  He said more confidently.  “Dick would have come but he wanted to stay with his family and I pass by here on my way home anyway.” Tim lied easily.
“Ahh, so you’re Tim.” Adrien smiled at him.  Tim stared at him unsure what to say.  What did that mean?  Had she been talking about him?  She must have talked about him, how else would her boyfriend…husband? have heard of him. “It’s nice to meet you.  I’m Adrien.  I’m Marinette’s roommate/best friend/brother whichever you want to go with.” Adrien gave him a disarming smile and holding out a hand to him.  Noticing Tim’s expression he added, “Don’t worry, she’s only said good things about you.”
Tim shook his hand as another voice sounded from behind Adrien, “Did you say Tim?”  The voice didn’t sound like Marinette’s though.  Adrien chuckled and pushed the door open a bit to reveal a woman walking toward them.  “She was right, he is cute.  Hi, I’m Luz.  I’m Marinette’s friend and this idiot’s girlfriend.  It is very nice to meet you.”
“Love you too, Luz.” Adrien grinned pulling her over to him and kissing the top of her short black hair.
“Sorry, you were asking about Marinette.” Luz prompted. “She’ll be really happy to hear you were so interested.”
“Right,” Adrien interjected before Tim could respond. Tim looked over to Adrien and immediately was on guard.  Adrien had the same look in his eyes as Dick before he interfered in one of their lives. “You know, Luz and I were just talking about cancelling our plans tonight so we could stay home and watch Marinette. Today was harder on her than she had expected it to be.” He gave Tim an overly happy smile.  “But, if someone else could stay with her, that would help us out a lot.  I don’t suppose you would have time tonight.”
Luz’ eyes bugged out at Adrien and she slapped his arm.  “You can’t ask him to do that!  That is so rude.”
Adrien pouted at her but Tim interrupted before she could lecture him more.  “No!” Tim cleared his throat.  “No,” he started, calmer this time, “I… uh… I can do that.  If you don’t think Marinette would mind.  We wanted to talk to her about a few logistical things anyway.”
Adrien’s eyes lit up and his smile grew impossibly wider.  “Perfect!” He exclaimed, grabbing his and Luz’ coats.  “She’s just getting out of the shower.  Feel free to get comfortable.  There’s food and drinks in the fridge.  I don’t know if she’ll be up for discussing logistics tonight though.  Like I said, she wasn’t expecting today to be as hard on her as it was and she’s pretty tired.  I think a nice relaxing night is all she can handle.”
Luz looked at Adrien incredulously but didn’t try to stop him.  She shook her head and turned to Tim as she put on her coat.  “Thank you for this.  We should only be a few hours, but don’t feel like you have to wait for us. She should be fine, we were really just going to stay to keep her company.  It’s not like she’s in any danger.  She’s past the danger period.”
“Not a problem.” Tim smiled reassuringly at them. “After everything she did for Mar’i, we are more than happy to help any way we can.”
Tim closed the door behind them with a deep breath. He really hoped Marinette wouldn’t get upset about him being there.  It couldn’t hurt, right?  She’d understand why he wanted to talk with her.  He turned to take off his coat and observe the apartment.  It was a warm feeling apartment with lots of pictures of Marinette and Adrien, together and in groups of their friends.  It was clear they were extremely close and had been for a very long time.  He smiled at a picture of Marinette when she was a teenager from high above Paris.  He studied the picture closer.  If he didn’t know better, he’d swear it was taken from the top of the Eifel Tower…
He was startled out of his focus when he heard a door opening and another closing.  He wondered if she was going to come out or just fall asleep.  He sighed, plopped down on the couch, and pulled out his laptop.  If he was going to be waiting alone for a while, he might as well get some work done.
A few minutes later he heard bare feet padding towards him from behind.  He was going to look up to see Marinette as she walked in, but he wanted to send the email he had just finished writing first.  He finally looked up when she rounded the corner of the couch.  Her eyes were closed and she was wrapped in a thick blanket. She plopped on the couch and fell over. He just barely got his laptop out of the way before her head hit his lap.
“I told you guys to go out.” She grumbled at him. “I don’t need a babysitter.  I am a babysitter.  I’m just tired and a pillow would be more comfortable than your lap anyway.”
Tim chuckled at her.  He grabbed one of the couch pillows and gently tucked it under her head.  “Better?” He asked quietly.
“Hmmm,” she responded affirmatively, eyes still closed. “Now go.  I’ll turn on a show and fall asleep to the sound in a few minutes anyway.  There is no reason for you to stay.  Go on your date.”
“I would but I don’t have a date tonight.” Tim said with a smile.  “My only plans for tonight were to come check on you.”
Marinette’s eyes flew open and she slowly turned her head to him, apprehension clear in her eyes.  As soon as she saw him she squeaked and sat up straight.  She swayed slightly in response to the rapid change in blood pressure.  Tim moved quickly to grab her and guide her slowly back to lay down on the pillow.
“I’m so sorry.  I saw short black hair and assumed you were Luz.  I’m so sorry.  I didn’t even really look.”  Marinette rushed out.
Tim smiled kindly at her and gently shushed her. He started carding his fingers through her hair to calm her down.  Adrien had told him that her body had already gone through a lot of stress today, he didn’t want to add any more.  “It’s okay. I got that.  You need to lay down though and let your body relax.  Do you want me to leave?”
She wanted to object but his hands felt too good in her hair.  It felt like they were pulling away the tension with each stroke.  “No,” she admitted closing her eyes again.  “I don’t want to keep you here if you have places to go though.  I really don’t need a babysitter.  Adrien’s just… Hey, where are Adrien and Luz anyway?  And how did you get in here?”
“I came by to check on you.  Adrien answered the door and let me in.  He and Luz went out on their date and asked if I’d be okay with staying for a little while.”  Tim said calmly, trying to assure her he was more than okay with staying with her.  “I would just go home and work on some paperwork alone anyway so I really don’t mind.  It’s nice to have someone else with me for a change.”
Marinette looked up at him unconvinced.  “Are you sure?  Adrien really shouldn’t have imposed on you like that.”
“I’m fine,” he assured her again.  “I might order some food, but I wanted to talk with you alone anyway.  Are you hungry for anything?”
“No, I’m just tired.”  She closed her eyes and turned on her side to get in a more comfortable position.
“Have you eaten anything since lunch?” Tim asked knowingly.
She sighed.  “No, but I’m really not that hungry.”
“Did you eat anything at lunch?”
She turned to glare at him “No...”
“I’ll order food for us,” he decided with a determined nod.  “What do you feel like?  Pizza? Sushi?  Chinese?  Italian? Indian?”
She huffed at him.  “Fine.  Chinese, please.”
Tim nodded at her and after getting her order, called one of his favorite places to deliver for them.  He started stroking her hair to help her relax as he ordered. After a few minutes of silence and evened out breathing, Tim was convinced she was asleep and turned back to his laptop.  Marinette sighed contentedly and snuggled a bit further into the pillow.  “I suppose you want to talk about me knowing your identities.” She said tiredly.  “I haven’t told anyone, and I won’t.  I know how important secret identities are.”
He looked back at her surprised.  “Yes, but it can wait.  You’re too tired right now.  Maybe we can talk about where you learned those moves and how to stay that calm when we discuss the identities.  We saw the security video.  You were really impressive.  It looked like you had training.  I think you could probably keep up with us.”
She blushed at the compliment and angled her face more into the pillow trying to hide the blush.  “It’s not my first time in a dangerous situation.  We had them almost constantly in Paris for a few years. The goons were practically easy compared to some of the stuff we went through.”
“Yeah, we’re definitely talking about that comment later.” He stated with concern.  “For now, sleep.  Adrien said you had a rough day and I can wake you up when the food gets here.”
“Pft,” she scoffed.  “It wasn’t rough, my body is just a wimp right now.  All I had to do was give a presentation that I already had prepared.  I just had to talk and point and that kicked my ass.”
Tim chuckled at her and continued stroking her hair.  “Yeah, concussions tend to do that.”
They were quiet for a few minutes relaxing with each other’s presence until Marinette spoke up quietly.  “Is Dick firing me?”
“What?” Tim exclaimed louder than he meant to, jerking up and knocking Marinette off the pillow.  “Sorry, sorry,” he apologized as he tried to get her resituated. “Absolutely not.  He’s so impressed and happy with you I think he’s going to try to add you to the family.  I’m pretty sure I saw ‘how to adopt a legal adult’ in his search history.”
Marinette smiled in relief.  “Good.  I was afraid you guys were going to be upset with me or want to distance yourselves from me. But it wasn’t my fault.  Dick said it was okay to hide anywhere in the apartment when we played hide and seek and he left his suit in his closet.  I mean, I suspected before, but that was pretty definitive.” She babbled out quickly.
“Yeah, that… sounds like Dick.” Tim sighed.
“I’d really miss Mar’i and you… all of you.” She added quickly.
“We’d miss you too.” He promised her.  “Mar’i would be heartbroken… and she wouldn’t be the only one.” He added quietly, continuing threading his fingers through her hair as he stroked it.
She hummed at him and sighed happily again, her breathing evening out again.  Tim opened his laptop on the side and started finishing some work. "That feels nice" she mumbled sleepily after a few minutes. "I like the way your hands feel."  He paused his ministrations and gaped at her, wondering how much of what she said he should take seriously. She was pretty out of it and concussions make you say strange things… but she had seemed pretty cognizant earlier and she did seem to enjoy him running his fingers through her hair. Did she like it because it was him or was it just the motion she enjoyed and anyone doing it would get the same reaction?  But she did say his hands… A blush took over his face as he started carding his fingers through her hair again.
After seemingly no time at all, the food arrived.  Tim jumped up to get the food, after carefully extracting himself from under Marinette, and set it all out for her, not allowing her to help with anything.  She rolled her eyes, but let him finish.  He watched her intently as she took her first bite.  She was determined not to give him the satisfaction of knowing he was right and eating was actually what she needed, more than sleep at that moment. But against her will, she let out a happy groan as soon as the food touched her tongue.  “So you like that food,” he commented with a smug smile.
She looked up at him with narrowed eyes, “I’m going to return this favor, you know.  Next time you’re so caught up in something you forget to eat, I’m going to find you and make you eat.”
He chuckled at her, “I’m sure Dick and Kon would appreciate the help forcing me into healthy eating and sleeping habits.”
She quirked her head to the side.  “Is Kon another brother?”
He smiled, looking down at his food, “No, no. He’s my partner.”
“Oh,” Marinette said quietly, lowering her eyes to her food.  So Tim hadn’t meant all those things he said, or rather, he did but as just a friend.  But that was okay… well no, it sucked really badly.  She had really loved the idea of them together and had been fantasizing about kissing his perfect lips.  But it made sense.  Tim was amazing, so of course he was already with someone.
But still, he was fun to be around and he was Mar’i’s uncle, so if friends was how he wanted the relationship to progress, she’d agree.  She just needed to adjust how she reacted to his comments and stop thinking of how much she wanted to kiss him.  He didn’t want her like that.  She looked back up at him with a strained smile, “I’d love to meet him sometime.”  He smiled back excitedly, happily anticipating incorporating her into his life.

Saving The World
Raven's POV:
"We lost 31% of the earth's molten core, there is nothing we can do," Batman explained to Diana and Clark.
I look over to Damian, who is sitting next to me. His eyes meet mine, and I lean forward for a kiss. When our lips touched, I felt everything that I have been longing to feel for the past two years. I felt loved and no longer alone.
The flash stands up and moves over to Batman and the others. I pull apart from Damian, and we both walk over to the conversation.
"If I just make another flashpoint, we could reverse this." The flash pleads his case.
"No, that is far too dangerous." Constantine steps in. "You could just make another timeline that is ten times worse."
"I don't see any other way." The flash looks at us all. "Do any of you have a better idea?"
There was silence and all you could hear was the wind blowing past us. Soon the earth will grow cold and those who were left on it would surely die. I turn to Damian. I observed his face and I can tell he had no further plan. He looks over at me.
"What?" He whispers.
"I have too," I mumble. I stand to my feet, but Damian grabs my hand.
"What are you doing?"
"I have a plan," I say, just loud enough for the others to hear me.
"And what is it?" Constantine looks as if thinking what I was about to say wouldn't work. He could at least give me a shot.
"You're going to have to trust me." I look at each and every one of them.
Diana steps forward. "I believe in you." She put a hand on my shoulder and I turned to see her face. She nodded at me and I nodded to her.
Then I stepped away into an open area.
"Raven, wait!" Damian steps in front of me. "What are you doing?"
I put my hand on his cheek and for a second he rests his head on it, then he backs away enough to look me in the eyes. "I love you."
I kissed him, holding onto his head, wanting to forever remember this moment. I don't know if this will work, but something inside of me is calling for me to do this. A voice in my head that used to say 'destroy the world is now saying 'save it.'
One thing I have learned in the Teen Titans is that no matter the sins of people, they are all worth saving. The world is worth saving. Damian is worth saving.
I break our kiss and take one last look at him. I step back and levitate to the sky, not looking away from Damian. When I got to the highest I could go, I looked around. The world was in shambles now. Torn up and destroyed by the need for power.
I took one more look down at the people that I have grown to call my family. Clark saved me from... well me, Starfire who is like a sister to me and who guided me for many years. Dick taught me to fight and hold my ground. Damian made me feel like anything was possible. I needed to save them.
I took a deep breath.
"Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos!" Heal the earth. "Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos!" Heal those that are injured. "Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos!" Bring back those we have lost. "Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos!" Bring those who died, back to life. "Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos!" Heal those who have been taken for machines. "Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos!" In the name of love!
Then my world goes dark.
******
Damian's POV:
I looked at her. I watched as she slipped from my fingers and ascended to the sky, almost as if she was ascending to Heaven. She wasn't looking at us anymore, but to the world and the damage that was done.
I didn't know what she was doing, but I could only pray that it would work. She made it seem like goodbye, but I won't let this be the end. I didn't die and be brought back for her to die.
Father steps to my side and watches the sky along with all the others. Dick is in Kori's lap, and she is stroking his hair. The moment they saw each other, Greyson had recognized her. Father places a hand on my shoulder, bring my gaze back to the sky.
There is a flash of purple, but instead of her black raven appearing around her, she is surrounded by a white one. It was almost breathtaking to watch and I even heard a few gasps from behind me, but I didn't take my eyes away from her.
Then there was a flash of white that consumed the sky.
For a moment the world would not come into focus. All around, it looked fuzzy. And then it became clear. I looked over at Starfire and Dick, and they were hugging each other. Starfire's robotic parts were at her feet and she looked as she did two years ago. Dick stood up from the ground and they hugged. It seemed like there was no linger of the effect of the Lazerous pit.
I turned around and was shocked. Robotic pieces were on the ground as the people they belonged to embraced each other in their original forms. Diana was being helped up by Clark, and Batman stood from the ground, no longer in Dark Side's uniform. Raven did it.
Raven!
I looked to the spot she last was, but she was, falling. I rushed to catch her, holding my arms out for her. She crashed on top of me. She was on my stomach. I sat up.
"Raven!" I grabbed her face and turned it towards me, but she did not move. I tested her vitals. She was weak, but she was alive.
"Raven." Kori came over and reached for Raven's arm.
"She is alive, but her pulse is weak," I say, not looking away from the girl in my lap.
Soon a crowd of people came around us. All asking different questions, like if she was okay or if she was alive. I stood up with her in my arms and turned to the crowd of people who all had worried looks. Clark tried to reach for her, but I did let her go. I was never letting her go again.
"She is alive but in need of medical attention." I turn to Father. "Father, we have to get her somewhere where she can rest." He nodded.
"Bring her to the Batcave. I will tell Alfred you are on the way." Dick came over and placed a hand on my shoulder. He put his other on her arm and checked her vitals. "She is getting stronger."
Just as he said that Raven's eyes flew open. Her amethyst eyes found mine. "Damian." Her voice was hoarse, but she smiled at me.
"Don't speak. Save your energy." I hushed her. "We will get you somewhere safe."
"Did it work?" She asked, looking around at everyone.
"According to my records our molten core is in tacts and the earth's population was restored to the number it was before Dark Side's attach." Father read off his screen. "I am not sure how you did it, but you did. Very good work, Raven." Father nodded to her.
"Zatanna?" Constantine asked.
"Constantine." Zatanna's voice called through the crowd. She stood with a portal open as other Justice League members flooded out.
Raven smiled, and then she turned to me. "I saved you twice today."
"Yes, you did."
*******
Raven's POV:
"Raven?" A voice pulls me from my rest.
"What?" I open my eyes, confused.
"You fell asleep." Damian brushes his hand on my cheek.
"I didn't mean to," I say, trying to sit up.
"No, it's okay." He smiled and helped me up. "I was just worried for a moment. Go back to sleep. The car is here and I will take you somewhere safe." He said. I noticed that I was still in his arms.
"I can walk." I am not sure if it is true or not, but I didn't want him to know that.
"I will carry you anyways." He smiled down at me. My heartfelt warm and tingly, and honestly, I felt like I could curl up into him and sleep forever.
Damian helped me into the seat of the car, putting me in the passenger seat. Then he put the seat belt around me. I gave him a look, telling him I could have done that on my own, but he ignored it.
Damian slid into the driver's seat of the car, but his father came over before he could start the engine. "Drive her right back to the cave. I will be there when I can."
"I will, Father." Damian blew off his father's words.
His father hesitated but stepped away, and Damian started the car, and then sped off. I grabbed the handle above my head, making Damian turn to me.
"Please slow down," I begged.
Damian turned to me, and when he saw that I wasn't kidding, he slowed to almost the speed limit. "Are you alright?"
"I am really light-headed." I close my eyes, trying to focus on breathing. I turned back to look at Damian who looking worried. "But I will be fine."
He holds out his hand and I take it. I close my eyes again and take deep breaths. He squeezes my hand and says, "if you puke... you will have to clean it up." He says, making me laugh.
   ____
Back at the Batcave
Well even though the ride wasn't too terribly long, it turned out I will be known as the first person to throw up in the Batmobile. Damian started to speed a little more when I got sick, but he only made it worse.
"I am sorry," I tell him as he helps me out. "I really am."
"It was a joke, I swear. You are fine." He scoops me up into his arms and carries me away from the car.
"I'm sorry," I say as he lays me down on a bed.
"Please stop saying that. It is fine. I will clean it up, but you have to get better. Do what they tell you so you get better. Stop worrying. " He paused and looked at me. "Please."
I smile at him and reach for his face. When I touch his cheek, he smiles and leans into my touch. All of a sudden my bed becomes occupied by another guest. I sit up a bit to see Titus resting at my feet.
"Titus will stay with you and make sure you don't get out of bed." Damian nodded as if making the plan up as he went.
I didn't argue, and then Damian left to go clean up. I fell asleep with Titus' head, resting on my legs.
Damian
"What happened?" Batman came in, immediately sitting down at his computer.
I was cleaning up the Batmobile, from the earlier mess that I had made. I should not have sped so much. Then maybe she would not have gotten sick. "I was speeding to get back here, and Raven became ill," I explained.
My father turned around to look at me. "Damian, you should not have sped. She probably is tired and easily susceptible to motion sickness."
"Father, I thought it best we got here as soon as possible, but I admit it was a mistake." I bowed my head.
"So is she the one you were talking about?" He looked at me.
I stayed quiet, unsure of what he was talking about.
"When you said 'save them, save 'her' you meant Rachel Roth?" Father said, trying to piece together the puzzle.
"Father now is not the time or place to be discussing this." I pick up the rag I was using to clean the car and put them in a garbage bag I was using. I stood up and he turned back to his bat computer.
"Her vitals are returning, but she will need rest. I fear this has taken a great deal of energy." Father says as I go over to the panel on the wall and check the camera in her room. She is sleeping, but so is Titus. So much for a guard dog.
"We must give her time." I nod and turn to Father.
*****
Raven's POV:
I woke up in the complete dark. I wasn't sure of the time, and when I pulled out my phone it was dead. Titus stirred and started towards the door. I opened it for him and followed him out. I hadn't noticed at first, but there was a sleeping body on the ground.
I knelt to his side and put a hand on his shoulder to wake him.
"Damian," I whispered.
His eyes shot open and he scanned the room. He stood up so fast that I was almost knocked over in surprise. He turned his head back and forth and soon his eyes landed on me with worry.
"What's wrong? What happened." He grabbed my arms and looked around.
"Damian." I smiled. He was so worried that it was hilarious to watch. I grabbed his arm and made him look at me. "Damian, I am fine."
He looked me over and then sighed.
"What's going on, why are you sleeping outside the door?" I reached up and put a hand to his face, gently.
"Nothing. I was just making sure you were alright." He looked at me with those emerald eyes. "Why are you up, you should be resting?"
"I wanted to get something to eat."
"Well then let us go upstairs and get you some food. What is it that you are hungry for?" He offered me his arm to take.
I took it and looked up at him. "Cereal."
"Cereal? It's almost midnight." He checked his watch and showed it to me.
"I just want cereal." I shrugged.
He sighed with a smile on his face. "Fine." He leads me up the stairs and to the kitchen area.
I sat down at the table while Damian went over to the cupboard and grabbed all the cereal brands they had. He set them down and grabbed the bowls and spoons and a gallon of milk. He set them on the table and I grabbed what I wanted. He did the same.
I took a spoon full of cereal and scooped it into my mouth and smiled at Damian.
"Cute." He said, nodding at me, and then he took a bite of his cereal.
We ate our cereal in silence, only hearing the noises of ourselves chewing. I got seconds on my bowl, while Damian stopped after one. He watched me eat for a few minutes before his gaze started to annoy me.
"I am sorry that I eat cereal in a different way." I turned to him. "I am hungry."
He chuckles and leans back into his chair. "I don't think you eat strangely, but I think it is funny to see you stuff your face." He smiles at me.
"Excuse me for using all my energy to save the world." I joke.
"You are right, you deserve to eat as much cereal as you would like." Damian bowed his head in acceptance, but when his head turned up he had an evil look in his eyes.
"What?"
"Nothing." He leaned back, not losing eye contact.
"Damian, you have that look in your eye." I point at him.
"What look?" He plays innocent.
"That mischievous look that tells me you have a plan that is not going to end well." I lean back to get a better look at him.
"I have no look." He teases.
"Yes, you do," I argue.
"No..." He was about to argue when we were interrupted.
"What are you fighting over?" Bruce Wayne walked into the room. I have never seen Batman out of his bat costume and it was shocking to see him standing before us.
"Father, we are sorry if we woke you." Damian stood and took our dishes to the sink.
"I was already awake." He sat down at the table. He turned to me and asked, "How do you feel?"
"I am better." I gave a weak smile.
"That is good." He nodded. "Now what was this about a 'look'?"
Damian sat in the chair beside me. I looked at him to see if he would explain it to his father or not. When it seemed like he wasn't going to answer I turned back to Batman and explained.
"I believe your son has a look that he gives when he has a plan that he knows you won't like," I explain.
"Oh, that look." Batman nods.
I turn to Damian with a triumphant look. "See, even your father knows of this look."
Damian turned back to me with a smile. "Fine, you win." He put his hands up in surrender.
"How is everyone, Batman?" I turned to the man sitting across from us.
"Everyone has been informed of the events over the past few years and the Justice League plans to hold an official press meeting in the next day or so to go over the details." He pulled out his phone from his pocket and set it on the table. "And please, call me Bruce."
"Well Bruce," It sounds strange to say his name. "What are you going to tell them?"
He looked at me. "We are going to tell them the events of the past few years and explain the treatment, and we plan to have you there by our side. That is if you are well enough." He gestured to me.
"Why me?" I questioned.
"You are the one who saved the world." He looked to his son and then back at me. "The world has been wanting to meet you."
"I don't know." I sank into my seat a bit.
"That reminds me. Lois and Clarke are coming tomorrow to see you. I had to send them home twice while you were asleep." Bruce stood. "Raven, please feel at home here." He said before he walked out.
I turned to Damian who was looking down at the table, scowling.
"Damian?"
"What?" He looked at me and his eyes soften.
"What is a matter?" I turn my body towards his.
"You don't have to go to the press release. I told my father that you would need more time." He shook his head.
"Damian, it is fine. If I feel up to it, I would like to go. I want to." I put a hand on his.
"Okay." He hesitated before standing. He gave me his arm and we walked the lengths of the manor together. I wasn't really sure where he was taking me until we reached a door.
"You don't need to sleep in the bat cave." He explained to me and opened the door to a bedroom "You can stay here in my room."
"Your room?"
"If you don't feel comfortable, I can sleep elsewhere." He said, allowing me to walk in.
I stepped in and Damian followed. I sat on the bed and looked at him. "You can stay here," I said, wanting for him to stay here. I almost begged him not to leave.
"Alright." He nodded. "I have some clothes you can wear."
He went over to his dresser and pulled out a hoody and basketball shorts. He handed them to me. I took them and went to the bathroom attached to the room and changed. When I got out Damian had changed into shorts and a t-shirt as well.
I slid under the covers and looked at him. He turned off the lights and made his way to the bed with only the lamp beside the bed for light.
"Good night Rachel." He said after he had turned off the lamp, leaving us in the dark.
"Good night."

Next Day
There was a knock on the door. I opened my eyes only to be flooded with light. I buried my head under the covers, blocking out the morning. The person next to me stirred and went to the door, opening it just a crack.
"Morning Master Damian." Alfred greeted behind the door. "Your father is worried that Miss Roth has run off this morning, but I have come to ask if you know where she might be."
"Alfred don't be coy." Damian shook his head. "I am sure by the tone in your voice, you know she is with me."
"I had a hunch." There was amusement in Alfred's tone. "I will inform your father that I have found Miss Roth. Please join us downstairs, we have some visitors." He said just about to close the door. "Morning Miss Roth."
Damian forcefully closed the door and grumbled back to bed. He slid under the covers and his arms wrapped around my waist. I smiled and took the covers off my head and wiggled around so I could see him.
"Morning."
"Morning," Damian grumbled into the sheets.
"I think we need to go downstairs," I say, trying to free myself from Damian's grasp.
Damian has always been stronger than me, so his hold on me was firm. He was gentle not to hurt me, but his arms were not budging. I turned back to look at him when I gave up trying to get out of his grip.
"Damian..." I warned.
"Five more minutes." He grumbled again.
"You are normally a morning person, why are you like this?" I say, trying to break free again.
"Because for the first time in two years the world is not in danger and I am in bed with you. I want to keep it that way." He growled into my ear, seductively.
This sent shivers down my spine. A smile spread across my face and I leaned back into Damian's grasp. He was right. For the first time, we have been able to be just us without the fear of the world ending or father trying to kill him.
I sighed and then broke away from his hold. I stood up and looked down at Damian who was looking up at me from the sheets of the bed. He did not seem too happy.
"Damian, once we go downstairs and make ourselves known, we can come back up here. I am hungry and want to eat before I fall back asleep." I said, pulling at his arm to get him out of bed. He didn't move.
After a moment I dropped his arm and stepped back. He grumbled "fine." And got to his feet. He went into the bathroom to change into some different clothes I did a simple spell to change close into a shirt and pants.
When Damian came out his hair was wet and he smelled like aftershave. I smiled and walked over to him. I hugged him around his chest, taking in a breath. His arms wrapped around me as he continued to pull socks out of his drawer.
When we were both done getting ready we headed out the door and right downstairs to the kitchen. Alfred was at the counter with a stack of pancakes beside him. When I stepped in closer I noticed Bruce, Clark, and Lois all setting at the table. Damian walked over to the table and sat down.
Lois looked up and her eyes brightened when she saw me. She stood to her feet and practically ran to me. She embraced me and then I hear a chair crash to the ground and Clark got in the hug.
"I am so glad you are okay," Lois said into my ear. She held me so tight it was hard to breathe.
"Raven, how are you?" Clark asked, not letting go of me or Lois.
"I am fine," I said, embracing them.
In the past two years, I have grown close to Clark and Lois. Clark saved me from making a huge mistake and ending my life and Lois and Clark took care of me when I grew sick from my father's wrath.
They had become like a family to me. It was nice to be around them again.
Lois realized me and Clark and she stood back to look me over. They looked at me with concerned eyes, but I smiled.
"I am fine," I assured them.
Lois enveloped her hand in mine and led me back to the table. She made me sit in the seat that Clark was sitting in before, but he didn't seem to mind. He went and sat beside Bruce.
"You did it," Lois whispered in my ear when she sat down.
"What?" Whispered back to her.
"You saved the world." She smiled at me proudly. "I knew from the moment Clark brought you home that you were destined for great things."
I smiled. She had told me that a lot throughout our time spent together. She and Clark believed in me when I had lost hope in myself.
Alfred brought over a plate for me and Damian, who was now seated across from me. Alfred smiled at me when he handed me the plate. I couldn't help but blush.
"Raven, are you feeling better? The past few days we have come they told us you were asleep?" Clark turned to me.
"I am better." I nod and take a bite of my pancake.
"Glad to hear." He nodded. "Has Bruce filled you in on the press conference?"
"He said that the Justice League will hold one and that they would like me there," I said after I swallowed my food.
"And do you feel up to it?" Lois asked me in a concerned tone.
"It should be fine for me to go," I answered her.
She smiled at me and grabbed my hand that was resting on the table and gave it a squeeze. I looked at her and she had nothing but love in her eyes. I looked to Clark and he was just the same.
"I don't think Bruce has told you yet, but the Teen Titans have decided to take a season off and most of them are going home to family," Lois said, making me turn back to look at her. "And I know that the only family you had here was your father, and now he is gone."
I wasn't sure where she was going with this. Lois nervously turned to Clark and when I turned to him he just nodded with a smile on his face.
"We were wondering if you would like to come home with us." Lois turned back to me.
I looked at her in shock. She wanted me to come live with them? Clark and Lois were asking me to come to stay with them for the while the Teen Titans were away.
"What?" I said, not sure I understood all of this.
"Come stay with us, Rachel," Clark said across the table.
"What do you say?" Lois said in a cheerful tone.
"I..." I didn't know what to say. I have never felt more welcome.
"Father, surely she would be better staying with us." Damian's gloomy tone made me turn to him. He was upset and glaring daggers at his father.
"If Rachel would like to go with the Kent's then she is the one to make that decision," Bruce said sternly. "But, she should stay here for a few more days while we track her vitals and such."
"So what do you say?" Lois asked again.
I looked at Clark and Lois and then at Damian. For the past two years, the Kent's have held me together and given me love that no family has ever. I knew what I was going to choose, but I only wished Damian wouldn't hate me.
"Yes," I said, turning back to Lois. "When the press conference is over, I would like to come home with you and Clark."
Damian stood up and stomped out of the room. I winced at his footsteps but I knew what I wanted to do. Damian and I are just starting something, but I knew that I wanted to be with Kent's
"When we go back to Metropolis, I would like to introduce you as my daughter," Clark spoke up.
"Your daughter?" I turned back and forth at Lois and Clark to see if this was real.
"You are family and if these past two years prove anything, it is that you are a Kent." Lois squeezed my hand again. "Even if you are not by blood, you are."
"Thank you, guys." I smiled at the two of them.
"Rachel, would you mind if Clark, Lois, and I have the room?" Bruce spoke up. "We have a few matters with the press conference that need to be finalized."
I nodded and stood up. I left the room quietly, still smiling. I couldn't believe this. I didn't think about what would happen when I woke up. Clark and Lois took care of me for all these years, and I just thought when all of this was over they would lead their own lives, but now they want me to join them? I was happily surprised.
I was walked back to Damian's room. I didn't know how I was going to explain this all to him and I knew by the way he reacted he would not be happy, but I wanted to explain this all to him.
I knocked on the door.
Nothing.
I knocked again and this time when nothing happened I turned the nob. Damian was sitting at his desk in his room, writing something. I walked over to him and waited for him to finish. When he set the pen down I spun his chair to look at me and sat on the bed.
"Damian, I am going." I start.
His eyes were murderous.
"I love you." I put my hand on his. "I would stay with you forever, but over the past two years... It was the Kent's that took care of me."
I let go of his hand and put it in my lap. I looked down at my hands, not wanting to face Damian.
"I wanted to die. I mean it. I wanted it to be over. If I killed myself, Father would have never been freed and you would have been safe." I toy with my hands. "And I couldn't be with you because of it."
It was hard telling Damian this. I never admitted this to anyone before.
"When Clark showed up and took me in, he and Lois gave me something that I needed. Hope." I glance up and then quickly back down. Damian was staring at me like hot lasers. "They gave me a home and made me feel loved."
They were the parents I never had.
"I am going with them because they have become my family. Like the Titans, but with a stronger bond." A tear slipped. "I love you and this doesn't mean I don't. Just because I am leaving doesn't mean I am leaving you." I looked up at him, finding my courage. "I will portal here to see you whenever, but I need to do this."
Damian was silent for a second and I let my head drop. Maybe he didn't believe me or didn't want to hear this, but it needed to be said.
I felt his hand reach my face and I looked up to him.
"I love you." He said in almost a whisper. "And though I will hate having you far away, I understand." He nodded. "But I tell you this. I will gain your love enough one day to be considered the only family you will ever need." He said in a wild tone. "And on that day, you will be my wife."
His words were wild and truthful. I knew he meant this as a promise to me and it warmed my heart. I smiled at him as he whipped a tear from my face.
"We can portal to see each other and spend the nights." He grinned at me. "But for now, if this is where you want to be, then I will not fight."
I smiled at him.
"I love you," I said, meaning it with all my heart.
"And I love you." He smiled and pulled me in for a kiss.

teasing [j.todd]
Titans! Jason Tood x Reader
Request:  Can I get a Jason Todd x reader with “I’d like to see you try.” Or any prompt really. Just give me Jason Todd.
Summary: After Jason berates you with teases, you finally snap and accidentally confess your feelings.
Warning: Steamy teases (lol), Both reader + Jay are 18 in this :))))
Tumblr media
To say you were tired was an understatement. You were exhausted.
It had been 5 hours, 5 HOURS, of non-stop sparing with Jason and he still wanted to go for longer.
Eventually you waved the white flag. “Jay, I really can’t do this anymore. I’m exhausted, my brain hurts and my whole body is sore.”
The older teen smirked, “I bet I can make you sore in other ways, yeah?”
You threw the bo-staff you were holding at him, which he easily caught and rolled your eyes, “Oh my fucking god, shut up.” Walking over to the bench, you sat down, trying your best not to pass out from said exhaustion.
“Look, I’m just saying (Y/N), everyone else is away. Dick and the squad are on a mission and Rach and Gar are off being losers. It’s just us babe,” He sauntered over to you and took the spot next to you, leaning into your ear, “We could even do it right here if you’d like…”
Your cheeks flushed and you stuttered out the lame excuse of ‘there are cameras!’ Standing up, you ignored the emotions that were erupting within you. It's just Jason being Jason, you told yourself, he doesn't even mean it.
Jason watched as you exited the training arena but he was quick to follow after you, not done with his merciless teasing.
“Babe!” He hollered down the hall towards your room, “C’mon, don't leave me hanging like that!”
You shut your door and practiced some deep breathing - something Kori told you to do when Jason got on your nerves, why did Jason always do this to you? Did he want you to die of embarrassment?
As you were about to sit on your bed, your door swung open, a smug Jason in the frame. “So was that a no? Or are we just going to do it in here?”
You brought your hand up to your face, massaging your temples, Jesus, why did you ever let this boy get to you? “No, Jason, we’re not doing it in here.”
Jason frowned but then an evil smirk spread across his features. “If we're not doing it in here,” he mock pondered, “Then we must be doing it in my room! Fuck yeah, that's more like it (N/N)!”
You rolled your eyes and stomped over to Jason. Poking him in the chest, you made eye contact, glaring up at him. “No you imbecile, we are not doing it anywhere.”
He smirked again and grabbed your hand, playing with your fingertips. “So, that means you’re doing it and I’ll watch?”
Yet again, your face broke out into a blush and you ripped your fingers away, “No. Oh my god, Jason what is your deal?” You asked, putting your face into your hands.
Jason wrapped his arms around your waist, “My deal, princess,” he leaned down to your ear, “Is that I’m horny.”
You swallowed, “Jason. We just sparred for 5 hours and you're telling me that you're not tired?” It was a lame excuse yes, but you couldn’t handle this teasing any longer.
He pulled away groaning, “Why are you trying to avoid this, babe?”
Turning around, you crossed your arms. You couldn’t handle Jason when he got like this. “Jay. I’m beyond exhausted. I can barely move my legs.”
You felt arms snake around your center again, Jason pressing into the ‘hug’. Against your willpower and better judgment you leaned back into him, getting comfortable.
Lips pressed into your ears, the whisper of, “I bet I can still make them shake.” lingering.
Instantly, you pulled away from the warm embrace. “Jason!” You hissed.
“What? Babe, I’m just saying.” He shrugged innocently.
“Jason I swear to god I will ruin you if you don’t leave me alone.”
“Oh,” He said lowly, “I’d like to see you try.”
His tone of voice left you a blushing mess again and you stuttered, looking for a reply.
All you could come up with was a weak murmur of ‘You’re insufferable.” then,  “Seriously Jay, I’m tired. I can’t - we can’t do this.”
Jason frowned, “Listen,” He started, his smug demeanor now placed with one of insecurity, “If you don’t like me that way then just say it, I don’t need you to protect my feelings or some shit.”
You turned to face him again and furrowed your brows in confusion, “No, Jason that is not what this is.” All this time you thought he teased you because he knew about your crush on him.
“Then what is it, huh?”
You couldn't do this now. You were far too tired to think straight and you did not feel like confessing your feelings right now.
Though, because you were as exhausted as you were, all rationality fled your body as you began, “Jason, I love you. I have since the moment Dick introduced us, but I don’t want our relationship to just be about sex or just be you teasing or -”
Before you could finish your statement, the older teen made his way towards you and gently placed his hand on the back of your neck, pulling your lips towards his.
You melted into the kiss but then Jason, all too soon, pulled away and rested his forehead against yours.
“I don't want that either (Y/N). I want you to be my girlfriend. I want the whole world to know you're mine, to know that we're an item.” He then pulled away and ran his fingers through his hair, “I only teased you because it was the only thing that got a reaction other than annoyance out of you. It's like every time I try to get close to you, you put up these walls of anger and frustration towards me and I just… I didn’t know what to do.”
God, you were such an idiot. How could you sleep now knowing you made Jason, your Jason, feel this way? “Jaybird, I’m sorry. I was just scared. Of what? I don't know, maybe rejection or the awkwardness about telling you that would ensue. But I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to push you away…”
The other teen was silent at your words and you panicked, thinking that you messed things up.
“Jason?”
He gave a ‘hmm’ in response.
“Can I kiss you again?”
At that, his whole demeanor shifted once more, he was no longer the angsty teen he put off a few seconds ago, no, now he was the sly, smug Jay that you grew to love.
“Of course, babe, you never have to ask.”

“It's been a long day without you, my friend/And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again/We've come a long way from where we began/Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again/When I see you again.”
“Damn, who knew?/All the planes we flew/Good things we've been through/That I'll be standing right here talking to you/'Bout another path/I know we loved to hit the road and laugh/But something told me that it wouldn't last/Had to switch up/Look at things different, see the bigger picture/Those were the days/Hard work forever pays/Now I see you in a better place.”
“The love will never get lost/And when brotherhood come first/Then the line will never be crossed/Established it on our own/When that line had to be drawn/And that line is what we reach/So remember me when I'm gone.”

October 18, 9:30pm.
“Jason? Jason, where are you? You need to pick up- Bruce called me, freaking out because you’ve been spotted in Europe? I know you wanted to find your mom but Jesus Christ Jay, where are you? Pick up your goddamn phone, at least let me know you’re safe, that you’re okay. I won’t even tell Bruce. Just tell me you’re alright, okay? Call me back as soon as possible.”
October 18, 11:48pm.
“Hey. Sorry. I don’t know what to say. When I heard… Bruce told me. I didn’t really want to believe it. I still don’t really want to believe it. I’m just… I’m so sorry.”
October 21, 5:36pm.
“You’re everywhere. God. You’d probably hate it. Everyone talks about the tragedy. They don’t really know what happened. They just know that you… that you’re gone. I wish you were gone. Completely. It would be easier to handle if you were. I’m sorry.”
October 31, 1:01am.
“I was supposed to pick you up, remember? We were going to go trick or treating in Bludhaven, because we never had that before. Because I was in the circus. And you… anyways, you said I should go as Green Lantern because you think if it could, a green ring would pick me anyways. No fear, huh? Well. I was always scared of something, Little Wing. God you hated it when I called you that I’m sor-”
November 13, 4:13pm.
“It’s been almost a month and your face still shows up sometimes on the news. I miss you.”
December 1, 2:52am.
“Bruce isn’t the same without you Little Wing. He’s reckless. Careless. I think he’s going to get himself killed. It’s kind of… terrifying. Clark’s worried. The League’s keeping an eye on him. I wish I could. But… god it just hurts to be in the Cave right now. I’m sorry.”
December 20, 9:38pm.
“I was helping Alfred put the decorations up. No ones really feeling festive but… we had to do something I guess. We got the stockings up, and… I’ve never seen Alfred cry over anything, but he just couldn’t stop when he saw your stocking. I… I put it up in my room. I wanted to feel like you were here for the holidays. Sometimes I feel like you’re going to burst through the door anymore like it was some sort of joke-”
December 25, 12:02am.
“Merry Christmas Little Wing.”
January 3, 3:26pm.
“I don’t know why I keep calling this number. You don’t pick up. I know you won’t pick up. But I miss you. This is the only way I hear you anymore. I wish you were calling me for tips and tricks again. I wish I had known you were in trouble. I wish I was fast enough to get you. I wish you’d never gotten into this in the first place, you were so young, you didn’t deserve to go out like this, god it’s just not right-”
January 26, 7:09pm.
“Today was a good day. We took in a stray dog, kept him safe and found his owner. He’d run away because he was spooked by a loud car. He was a German Shepard, I remember you saying you had one when you were really little, his name was Buddy, right? Anyways, I think that saving stray dogs and getting cats out of trees and helping lost kids find their parents are the best parts of this job.”
February 15, 1:29am.
“I’m so sorry Little Wing, I think I forgot that joke you told me. I was trying to tell Kori and I forgot the punchline and I wish you were here to tell me it again because it was really funny and I think she would really like it. I think you would like her Jay, she’s a spitfire, you’d get a kick out of how she keeps us all in line. You’d like this crew. You’d like it here. I’m sorry.”
March 29, 3:06am.
“I’m sitting here, in the Batcave. Looking at Bruce, passed out from a fight that took a sharp turn. It was stupid, he’s beaten Mr. Freeze so many times, he was making rookie mistakes and I just don’t know what to do anymore. He… he hit me Jay. He’s not the same. I asked Alfred, if this is what happened when his folks… when they… anyways, he said no. He said he fought to be better. So why is he trying to get himself kil-”
April 04, 6:45pm.
“I don’t even… fuck.”
April 04, 6:49pm.
“Okay so, this kid, he’s like, 12? 13? He comes up to me and he’s like ‘I know who you are’ and I’m sitting here thinking this kid has some affinity for the Flying Graysons or something ‘cause that has happened before. But no. No this kid, his name is Tim by the way, Tim is like ‘I know you’re Nightwing and Jason Todd was Robin and Bruce Wayne is Batman and’- fuck, Jay you should’ve heard this kid-”
April 04, 6:52pm.
“And he’s like ‘I know Jason died and now Batman’s being stupid because he doesn’t have a Robin to care about so you should come back and be Robin again because Batman needs Robin’. Jesus Christ Jason, this kid, I swear, he genuinely believes if I don’t go back to being Robin, Bruce is going to go completely off the deep end. And I think he’s sort of right, but I don’t think me going back to Robin will fix it-”
April 04, 6:54pm.
“I’m also a grown ass man with my own life, and my own identity, and I worked so hard to get out from Bruce Wayne and Batman’s shadow and I don’t even want to go back to Robin. I like Nightwing. Besides, with how things are going with me and Bruce, I don’t think he’d take me back to begin with. And now he knows things and fuck things got pretty fucked up after you… after you… fuck.”
April 26, 1:22am.
“I’ve never wanted to harm a child more in my life, Jay. This jerk started tracking me down on patrol, still trying to convince me to go back. I’m not going back. It’s not happening.”
May 11, 8:47pm.
“This isn’t a Tim update. I just. I was starting to forget what your voice sounded like. I still can’t remember that joke. I’m sorry Little Wing. Thanks for listening. I’m sorry. I miss you. I’m sorry I wasn’t a better big brother, I should’ve been better. I’m sorry.”
June 18, 5:14am.
“Tim had officially been taken under Batman’s wing. He saved Bruce today. No training. No strength. No guidance. Just a shit ton of will and heart. Kind of reminds me of you, when you were first starting out. The you behind all those walls you built to protect yourself. I wish you would’ve torn more of those down for us. He starts training today. I’m going to help. I don’t think Bruce should do this but, what do I know?”
July 04, 9:00pm.
“You always liked the fireworks in Gotham on the Fourth of July. You’d wanna sit by the water and watch the colours burst through the sky. It was like, the one night a year Bruce would let you take the night off when you were healthy so that Alfred and I could take you. He’d join us if it was a quiet night. You remember that? He’d come with us. For a minute it felt like we were just a normal family.”
August 16, 12:00am.
“I always liked to be the first one to say it. Happy Birthday Little Wing. I love you kiddo.”
September 1, 5:19pm.
“I keep forgetting your voice. For a scary minute today, I couldn’t picture your face. When was the last time I hugged you? I’m sorry. I should’ve done it more.”
October 18, 11:45pm.
“I…”
October 18, 11:49pm.
“I can’t…”
October 18, 11:55pm.
“It’s been a really long year, Jay. I hope wherever you are, you’re with my folks. They’d love you, I think. Say hi for me. Give them a hug for me. I love you. I miss you. I wish I could see you again, I’d give just about anything to give you one more hug. I remembered that joke. Kori didn’t quite understand it, but she says you sound like a good kid. … I love you Little Wing.”

Burnt.
It’s funny how fire works. It spreads. It gives light, but it is never seen as something remotely good. It leaves ashes. And you were walking through them, trying to find the reason as to why someone a) had lit up a fire and b) had it put it out as quick.
There can be lights that can be sparkled, but sometimes we prefer darkness over any kind of burning fire. It makes sense, to avoid it. In a certain way.
Dick liked to avoid you, at least. And he had left just after making you feel everything with that stupid dance. And you felt like you were back at 17, nobody understood what had gotten into you.
A dance.
He blamed alcohol. You blamed him.
But he had left. And this wasn’t the first time he’d left, it seemed to you any time you were getting remotely close to each other he’d turn and back away and leave, like when he had on your 21st birthday.
And it stung like a memory you’d never forget. And it hurt, to think that maybe he felt the same way you did, but he did nothing but push you away.
Every single day he’d keep pushing you, and pushing and pushing you away over and over again. With small things, like in the mornings where you’d try to say hello and he’d turn cold. How he talked to everyone in the room but you and how any time your eyes landed on him he’d turn stiff.
You had talked one time. And you knew he wasn’t feeling well either. He had woken up at 3 am and he’d gone to the roof, but you were there, too. You loved being at the roof, staring at the stars.
“Can’t sleep, huh?” He asked, he had two beers. Maybe he had known you were there, too.
You shrugged as you took a sip of the beer. “Never been good at that.”
He chuckled. “Yeah, I remember,” but he turned stiff. “Light sleepers, both of us.”
“Yeah,” you turned to him. “What about you?”
“A lot on my mind,” he admitted. “It’s just like I’m 22 again.”
You shrugged. “Yet it comes to you again, the choice.”
“Does it?”
“I know my answer,” you shrugged.
He sighed. “It wouldn’t work.”
“What wouldn’t work? Talking about it?” You frowned.
“Well, do you want to?”
“I guess I miss the good things, you know? I miss Donna,” you admitted.
“We were a good team, weren’t we?” He asked.
“Yes, we’re not that good when we’re apart,” you chuckled.
“Donna said she felt out sometimes,” Dick said.
You grinned. “I mean, we were very annoying.”
He chuckled. “We weren’t, we were...adorable,” he grinned.
“From the moment we met, I mean, we were always in a rush and we enjoyed the silence,” you grinned.
“We did, didn’t we? Always sneaking everywhere…”
You smiled. “I’ve kept it a secret, too.”
“You have?”
“Yeah, no one deserves to know we’ve got the world record in loving each other,” you grinned and he blushed.
“I remember everything,” he declared. “Our first kiss.”
You took a sip. “You stole the batmobile that night.”
He laughed. “I can’t believe I asked if I could kiss you, so proper.”
You nudged him. “Those are pretty cheap, you know,” you gushed.
“What? Kisses?”
You winked at him. “Wouldn’t kill you to shut me up with one of those once in a while.”
He smirked as he laughed. “You’d love that, wouldn’t you? I thought you were going to do it while we were dancing.”
“Me? Please, only because you were begging me to do so.”
“Would it be such a sin?” He laughed.
You shrugged. “I mean, I felt young again, happy but I can’t really see the good things because then I remember everything that happened afterwards.”
“Afterwards…?”
You bit your lip. “I can’t let you hurt me again, Dick Grayson, when you broke my heart,” you scoffed. “Boy, you really got me.”
He looked down.
“It was days and days of crying, staring at the ceiling, wanting to find a reason why, I remember just not… Being clear, days were grey, and for me to say that about Gotham,” you chuckled dryly. “I was drowning.”
He gulped.
“No, I’m serious, I was such a mess, days were senseless, nights didn’t come and when they did, I couldn’t even go to sleep. No sun, no… nothing. What had I done wrong?”
Dick bit his lip. “I’m really sorry.”
“I got over you, don’t worry, Donna was there for me, every day,” you chuckled. “I’m at my best right now, ain’t it?”
Dick looked down at his beer. “At least one of us did.”
You coughed, nervously. “Well, why did you break up with me, then?”
“I was protecting you,” he said. “Still am,” he admitted. “Did you listen to what you just told me?”
“But I never said you hurt me before that-”
“I… I realized stuff, alright?”
You scoffed. “Fine you want to be dramatic and edgy and shit? Alright, go on  up that bullshit, but you know damn well that we were alright until you decided we weren’t. That whole you deserve better bullshit? C’mon Dick, you broke up with me for a reason and until I figure out what exactly-” You stood up. “We can’t really talk about anything.”
“I had a reason.”
“Really, what was it?”
“Does it matter now?” He sighed. “We moved on.”
“Did we, really?” You questioned him. You sighed. “Look, I can’t… I can’t really have this conversation right now, not when I-”
“When you what?”
“What happened that night?” You pushed. “What happened when we danced?”
Dick gulped. “I… well, I don’t know we were drunk.”
“Keep telling that to yourself, Richard, maybe you’ll end up believing it.”
You hadn’t talked since.
And somehow, it made you want him more, because it seemed challenging but it was tiring knowing that it was one sided. How could you ever still be in love with him when he clearly didn’t want anything to do anymore?
But really, in this situation, Dick couldn’t be avoiding you.
You had been...Patrolling. It calmed you, in a way. It was a thing you’d gotten from Gotham, you guessed, in such a mess there was nothing more but to join it and find calm on it.
You liked watching from the rooftops, now far from Gotham. No city was as chaotic. But it seemed that wherever you and the Titans stepped in, trouble was found.
You had heard it, and you were walking through the remains of a battle that had gone through your eyes. Who would burn a department store?
You walked through the mannequins, as Dick followed behind you. You knew he’d be here too, you both had that annoying habit of listening to the police operation. Both of you could rely on it, detectives.
“There’s no sense in burning the place down,” he commented. “Not the way it was done.”
“Spark a fire and leave? I’d heard that before, I’m not surprised,” you sassed as you stared at the ripped clothes on the floor.
“So you think it’s normal?”
“Probably some stupid teenagers, drunk, and having fun. Look at it, there’s no sense of greed or corruption, no violence, it’s a crime for sure…”
“But not a passionate crime, yes, I…” Dick nodded.
“There are no patterns, nothing, it seemed like some kids were only trying to spark a fire for fun,” you sentenced. “Always a fire.”
Dick nodded. “I’ll get the reports made and then,” he gulped. “We’ll...Yeah.”
He knew you loved speaking in between the lines.
And he was gone again.
And he had been. And it got grudgier, somehow. He’d avoid you more and more, avoid the rooms you were in, pretend to not listen whenever you spoke. Dick was trying too hard to put out the spark he had caused in you.
You’d find yourself trying to not wrap your head around it. Because he was getting colder, how can someone light a fire and be so cold.
And you didn’t want to understand why he was acting that way, you didn’t even try to push it. You just ignored it, because this was him. This was him being the big dick he was, that’s who he is.
But you knew he couldn’t help but be adorable.
The city was in ruins, however, lights were out and you had to use candles, all around your place. But it was fine, you loved the candlelight, and you loved darkness. Maybe you’d learned that from Dick, to love the night.
There were a lot of things you’d got from Dick. You’d be lying if you said he hadn’t marked your life. It showed, from the way you dressed to the way you’d patrol all nights. Dick was a part of you.
Too bad he didn’t want to be part of it anymore. And the Titans had noticed, but they hadn’t really asked about it.
Until Kory did.
“How long will you both keep acting like children?” She asked, joining you in the kitchen, you had some candles lighting up the room, but you remained in your darkness.
“What?” You faked ignorance.
“Look, I am not really aware of your situation with him, but you ain’t fooling nobody, clearly there was something there and if you two were adults you’d talk it out and not do that shit.”
“It’s complicated,” you admitted. “With Richard, honestly, everything is complicated.”
“You think?”
“Dick isn’t someone who stays, you know,” you said. “Dick likes danger, and he likes challenges.”
Kory raised her eyebrow at you. “So what? You guys clearly have the hots for each other, hook up once and that’s it.”
You looked away. “That would make it more difficult.”
“So are there feelings involved?”
You wrinkled your face. “A long time ago, maybe. Maybe there is just a slight spark there still.”
“I’d know that it takes only a spark to cause a fire,” Kory scoffed.
“I— Dick,” you sighed. “It was a mistake. It was one when we were young and it’s a mistake now.”
“You love him, don’t you?”
“Sometimes we fall in love with the wrong people,” you sighed, looking down. “You can think you’re in love and then you realize, you’re only in pain.”
Kory was watching you, analyzing what you were trying to say.
“It sounds stupid, honestly,” you shrugged. “Him and I? He’s… pun intended kind of a dick sometimes, and I’m— I am crazy, ain’t I?”
Kory chuckled dryly. “Aren’t we all?”
“But with us, it was always a problem, either me giving too much or him not giving at all,” you bit your lip. “We were always so immature, and we ran out of excuses, you know?”
“What went wrong?”
“I don’t know,” you conceded. “I’d love to know. It was all so… spontaneous. Dick likes to take control and with us—neither of us could take control. He blamed Gotham, Batman, and he even blamed me, saying it was for the best.”
“He said that?”
“I guess we're both so immature when it comes to each other.”
“Yeah, no shit.”
“I don’t know if we were in love, or something worse,” you sighed. “Whatever it was, we were meant to fall apart.”
“Do you miss him?”
You took a deep breath. “I guess, a bit,” you confessed. “I can only wonder if he ever thinks about me and just like me, can’t get the thought out of his head, that not even a cold shower will soothe him, even if it’s—senseless you know? Even if he claimed our relationship was the biggest mistake, I want to know that it was the one mistake he doesn’t regret.”
Kory stared at you with a side smile, she sighed. “Girl. I truly don’t know what to tell you.”
“Everything’s been said before.”
She shrugged. “I know only that you should cut the bullshit and go for it.”
You scoffed.
“I know something about him, he likes to take care of people,” Kory admitted. “He is always protecting you the most.”
“But that is bullshit, he said he broke up with me because he wanted to protect me,” you explained. “Where did that lead us?”
“Tell him then, to cut the bullshit, he clearly has feelings for you.”
A door was opened and you heard a laugh coming from Rachel, probably. Dick, Gar and Rach had been out. Probably another way of Dick to avoid you. Kory just stared at you as they joined you in the kitchen.
Dick didn’t even give you a glance.
“Did they figure out what happened?” Asked Kory.
“Teenagers were playing,” Dick explained. “Y/N—“he coughed.”she was right.”
You watched him as he had turned around. “What happened, then?”
“They were playing with candles.”
You nodded. “Told you, accident, not a crime.”
Dick didn’t even look at you.
“Yeah, could’ve happened to anybody,” Rachel said, as she opened a bag of chips, Gar ran over to pop some into his mouth. “Even to us, like right now that we don’t have any lights, or that day you both were messing around with the candle and dancing.”
You and Dick gave each other a glance.
“What was that about huh?” Gar questioned. “I’ve never seen you that close, you guys even seemed like friends.”
“Dick is friends with nobody,” you chuckled, playing it as cool as possible, but you felt like your stomach was burning up. “But—We used to be some sort of friends, weren’t we, Dickie?”
He gulped. “Yeah.”
“What happened? You barely talk now….” Rach pointed out.
“And that’s a great way to put them on the spot, Rach, Gar, come on, let’s leave so they can talk it out, figure it out and then when they’re done I’m sure y/n will pay us the favor by telling us everything,” Kory said as she stood up, ushering Gar and Rachel to leave with her. Dick closed his eyes. “We’re leaving,” Kory announced. “You have the whole house to yourselves!”
You chuckled, sightly. Just as he was about to leave the room as well, you called him out. “You can’t keep running from it, you know, Grayson, I’m not like all the other parts of your past.”
He stopped by the doorframe. “I know that.”
“Are we supposed to talk about it, though?” You asked as he turned around, finally seeing you.
“About what? Explaining it  to them? I truly don’t want to change the dynamic here, it’s better if they don’t know,” Dick said. “For the sake of the group.”
“They don’t have to know, you’re right. But don’t I deserve to know?” You asked, you blew a candle off and picked up the other one, standing up walking over to him. “Do you expect me to act normal when we clearly—still… have unresolved business here?”
He took a deep breath, walking away. “It’s in the past.”
“Maybe, Grayson, maybe,” you crossed your arms. “But I… You can’t...You can’t keep hiding because you feel like you’re going to hurt others.”
“Look what happened just as we… As the dance thing happened, you haven’t slept, I haven’t slept, it’s for our own sake.” Dick explained, heading to his room.
“Oh my god, Dick, no, no, you can’t, I feel like I’m 21 again,” you finally raised your voice, stressed. “Do you see it? Don’t you see it?”
“I…”
“Get yourself on my shoes, you walk into my house give me a dozen roses, and then you left! You broke up with me! And… You had me wondering, what did I do wrong? I stayed up days, nights, gosh, Grayson, I couldn’t…And I was such a fool! Waiting for you to come back with another dozen roses to take me back.  I didn’t understand it, but you know what I do, now! It’s you! You are the problem!”
Dick just watched you. “I was too dangerous-”
“And so am I, we’re both… I’m not proud of things I’ve done, but that’s why we worked, and then you turned into this, whoever you are now!”
Dick frowned. “And why are you still here?”
“Because you brought me back to you, Dick, don’t you see it?” You sighed. “You asked me to come with you for a reason, and I came back to you for that same reason.”
“Y/N.”
“Dick, you left me there with a broken heart and excuses that you didn’t even understand!” You pushed. “And now you keep ignoring me-”
And he did what you’d ask him before, he shut you up with a kiss. And it felt like the old times, and suddenly you forgot that you’d stay up each night wondering if he’d come back, you forgot how you’d stay still until the night would fall down on you. And all those lonely days had been erased.
Because god, how long had you wanted this. And as he pushed you against the wall, and as he ran his hand through your hair, you almost let the candle fall down, but you pulled away. You saw his eyes eating you with lust as he was catching his breath. You blew the candle off as he kissed your neck, peppering you with kisses to your sweet spot on your collarbone. His fingers were tangling with your hair.
And he was coming closer, and closer. And everything was dark, but Dick and you know how to move in the darkness. And even if the candle wasn’t burning, you knew you both were. But, somehow, even if it felt right, burning down the ashes seems wrong.
But you didn’t care, you needed to feel the sweat running down your body and you needed his lips covering you with tattoos. But there’s a part of you that wanted Dick to feel the way you’ve felt before.
“Meet me in the bedroom, I’ll be there in five,” you whispered in his ear, and he leaves, eagerly. But you didn’t join him in the bedroom, you left the house, knowing damn well you’d get burnt if you play with fire.

“Tell me the truth now.”
You took the baking tray out of the oven, careful to not burn yourself as the dish towel between your hand and the tray was barely thick enough to protect you from the heat.
You hummed absent-mindedly, organizing the cooling cookies on the dish you decorated specially for the event. You bit the inside of your cheek as you felt a pair of eyes on you, waiting for you to give a clue – anything, really– away. You took the final baking tray from your fridge and put it in the oven, closing it and putting the timer on twenty minutes.
“What have you planned?"
You let out a tired sigh as you turned around, going to a cupboard to grab a pack of chips and a bowl to pour them in. You carefully ignored the other person in the kitchen who was supposedly here to help you, but was rather doing an investigation of a new genre. Poking at your mind tirelessly was apparently more interesting than putting together a Christmas Eve’s eve party for your friends.
"Won’t you give up and help me with those?” You pointed at the appetizers that were already ready, then pointed at the empty table in the living room.
As to prove her previous point that she can do two and more things at the same time, I swear, Barbara grabbed two plates and moved over to said table. She mumbled a couple of indistinct sentences, but since she was finally helping, you let it slide and simply rolled your eyes at her antics.
“I just know”, she grabbed a plate of stick crudités with their condiments. “I just know”, she started again, “you’re plotting something and I don’t like it."
"I am most certainly not”, you scoffed loudly, putting a hand on your chest. “I have no idea, and I mean no”, you gave her a bowl of peanuts and she went back to the table, expertly avoiding several presents messily put on the floor, “idea why you would say that.”
“You have that glint in your eyes since I-”.
She stopped herself from finishing the sentence, but you could feel a smile coming back on your face. “Since you’ve told me you were desperately and hopelessly in love with the one and only-"
"If you finish this sentence I will embarrass you on every social media for the next decade”, she warned.
“-Dick Grayson.”
“I am not desperately and hopelessly in love with him.”
“Helplessly and irrevocably?” You tried, raising an eyebrow as you spare a glance her way and see her smiling despite your teasing.
She shook her head which prompted you to try new adverbs, as idiotic as they sounded. “Terribly and blissfully?"
"What does that even- you know what”, she shook her head and took the last plates and some decorations to put the final look on the table. “Why don’t we talk about you and our dear Jason?"
"Oh no, no, no, we don’t talk about this”, you yelled at the same time she was finishing her sentence, practically running after her while still being mindful of the dozen of glasses you were carrying in both your hands. “I am not the hot topic of discussion for this Christmas."
"Well you should, because you being into Jason is way more gossip worthy than my crush on Dick.”
“Well it’s my apartment, and I say I am not worthy of anyone’s attention, but you definitely are.”
“Not even Jason’s?” She laughed quietly as you avoided her gaze, keeping your attention on the glasses you were carefully putting on the table in a shape of a snowflake. Fuck it, it’s Christmas after all.
“Not even Jason’s”, you confirmed a few minutes later, but Barbara couldn’t ignore the tone of sadness in your voice.
*****
“Y/n, they are here”, Barbara yelled, drawing the ‘e’, right after the bell was rung.
“Coming!"
You heard new voices coming from the living room and you smiled to yourself as you put on your outfit for the night.
The bell rang once more, and more voices started to fill your apartment. Among them, you clearly recognized Dick’s as he told some joke, which was followed by Barbara’s laughter. Donna and Wally joined her as Roy added his own take on the joke. There was a quiet grumble you could without a doubt attribute to Damian, and three more voices you guessed, more than knew, were Tim’s, Steph’s and Conner’s entered the conversation.
After fixing your hair one last time, you came out of your room and walked towards your friends. Donna is the first one to see you and she immediately put you in a hug.
"Your apartment looks very nice”, Dick complimented you, hugging you sideways as he said so once Donna had let go of you.
“Barbara helped”, you informed him as you glanced at the key player of this whole thing, who was currently glaring daggers at you.
“I don’t doubt it."
Barbara blushed slightly at Dick’s comment. You resisted the urge to tease her a bit when you noticed her eyes shining with happiness.
"Well, blue is the new”, she stopped for a second, her eyebrows knitting together, “red, I guess?"
"Yeah, it works for Christmas, Babs”, Roy affectionately said as he ruffled her hair, earning an eye roll.
You watched with a knowing smile, as well as everyone else in the room but two persons, as Dick’s smile grew wider and his cheeks a little warmer. You wished these two could see just how much they meant for each other. But no, Richard Grayson and Barbara Gordon were two idiots. Two idiots who definitely needed a push in the right direction.
“Oh, by the way”, Roy caught your attention as he walked to the table to grab an appetizer, “Jason and Kory are swinging by later, they had a thing.”
“A thing, uh”, Steph wiggled her eyebrows in his direction making Tim and Conner choke on their drinks they shouldn’t have already.
Barbara sent an apologetic look your way but you simply smiled back, grabbing two bottles of Champagne from the fridge.
“Who’s ready to party?"
*****
You made your way towards the kitchen to grab more appetizers and a new pack of chips. You smiled as Stephanie and Cassandra were lively talking near the Christmas tree, pointing at various presents. Damian was clearly starting to enjoy the night as Jon, who Clark had dropped off half an hour ago, was showing him a new toy Lois had bought him mere days before Christmas.
You stopped dead in your tracks when your eyes landed on Dick who was observing a customized Christmas decoration. One that has been created by Barbara, a deep blue bird with mechanical wings that fluttered every so often. He had the cheesiest smile on his face and he kept swinging the bird with his right hand. As he stood under the threshold of the kitchen, right above his head was one of the two mistletoe branches you had put in your apartment.
Just as the doorbell rang for the umpteenth time this night, you sprung towards the door, unwilling to let this great opportunity go to waste.
"Babs, could you grab a new pack of chips please?” You sent her a warm and what you hoped was an innocent smile. “I’ve left some on the countertop!”
“Alright”, she replied, excusing herself from Donna and Wally. Once you reached the door, you discreetly pointed at Dick who was right on Barbara’s way. A knowing look was shared before you finally opened the door, barely registering the people in front of you.
“Hey”, you greeted the two new guests, glancing back and forth between them and Dick and Barbara who were currently having a nice conversation if your eyes weren’t to lie. “Nice to see you could make it! Roy said you’d be held back for a while.”
“Sorry about that”, Kory smiled a little for an unknown reason. “We did our best.”
“It’s fine! Please, just come on in.” You opened the door a little wider to let both her and Jason walk in.
“So, is something going on?” Kory asked after several seconds of you being oblivious to Jason’s stare on you.
“Well”, you waved in the general direction of your friends having a conversation under the mistletoe near the kitchen, “I think something is working there, don’t you think?”
“Did you set them up?” Jason’s question sounded a lot more like an accusation, but you didn’t really mind at this exact moment.
You turned your head to reply to him but, before you could open your mouth everyone around you started cheering loudly, making you whip around right when your eyes locked with Jason’s.
There, under the mistletoe by your kitchen, Dick and Barbara were finally kissing, smiling through it.
“Tim, you owe me 20 bucks here”, Steph yelled over the clamor and Tim clearly huffed loudly at that, although the smirk on his face was still present.
“Same over there Wally, and you too, Roy”, Donna added while collecting the money both men already had put out from their pockets.
“Jason”, you could hear the smile in Kory’s voice as she turned to Jason, her hands awaiting the bank bills. “I believe I get something too?”
“Did you all bet money on us?” Dick eventually said, catching everyone’s attention.
“Anyway, more champagne?”, you changed the subject after a couple of minutes of silence and glances exchanged between everyone.
A chorus of “yes please” and two “orange juice, please” was your answer and you swiftly walked to the kitchen, Barbara following close behind from the moment you walked past her.
“Proud of you?”
“Mad at me?” You shot back, the smile apparently ever so present on your face.
“No”, she confessed, her voice as close as what someone could expect Barbara’s dreamy voice to be. “I could have done it without the help though.”
“I don’t doubt it”, you put three new bottles of the bubbly alcohol in your fridge as you grabbed the last two. “But I wanted the girls to have their money.”
“Makes sense”, she blocked your way, letting you know something else was going on. “Now, about you and a certain someone-”
“Nu-uh”, you waved a bottle in front of her face, “I am not stealing your thunder tonight.”
“Or ever”, she mumbled but you decided to ignore her.
“This is your night.”
“It’s also supposed to be a Christmas party”, Tim chimed in, pushing his glass in front of him, expecting you to pour him a new one. You gently grabbed it before filling it with water, handing it back to the younger man. He gave you a face before chugging it, awaiting once again the champagne. “Are we gonna open those presents or what?”
“Let’s do it.”
“Presents time everyone!”
*****
People were slowly filling out of your apartment with new gifts falling from their arms.
You waved bye at them as you slowly picked up the wrappers that littered your floor. You simply wanted to throw away everything you could and had already put the plates and glasses in the sink, so you wouldn’t have to do it the morning after, on Christmas Eve, while being slightly hungover and way too tired.
You heard the door shut close behind whoever left last. You went to open the window of your living room to let in some fresh air. Picking up some used napkins from the table, you put them in the trash as well, trying not to make too much of a mess.
“You forgot this one.”
The voice startled you and you spun around, smashing the trash bag into whoever was standing behind you. Some wrappers and napkins you had just put inside the bag flew out, landing all around you.
“Wow.”
“Oh, my god, Jason”, you let go of the trash bag and your hands immediately went to his torso, wanting to make sure you hadn’t hurt him. “I’m so sorry, are you okay?”
“Fine, fine”, he mumbled back, pushing your hands away a second too late to be considered an outward rejection or anger of any kind. “Can I help?”
“Oh, no, no”, you shook your head and went to stop him. “Go get some sleep. You’re gonna need it for tomorrow dinner.”
“Tomorrow dinner?”
“Christmas dinner?” You raised an eyebrow and waited for him to realize what you were talking about. “Alfred insisted you had to come this year, if I remember correctly.”
“How d'you know that?”
“I was there when you got Alfred’s call?”
“Right”, he drawn out. “Don’t think I’m going anyway. Might as well help you.”
“Oh no”, your hands went on your hips and you stood your ground, not letting him move. “You are going. Alfred would murder you. And”, you picked up the bag from the ground, but didn’t look away from Jason. “You’re supposed to spend Christmas with your family.”
“Are you?”
“It isn’t about me here.” You took several napkins and wrappers in one hand and stood back up, waving them in your friend’s face. “You’re gonna spend Christmas with your family and that’s final. Now go get some sleep.”
He slowly crossed his arms over his chest, giving you a strange look as you kept picking up the mess you had made mere moments earlier. “I’ll go if you let me help you.”
You stopped in your tracks and slowly raised your head, finally locking eyes with him. You weren’t sure how much of what he was telling right now was true, but you knew he had to go spend Christmas with his family. He needed this, whether he knew it or not. Their relationship was getting better by the day, this much was true, and you didn’t want any party, but especially not Jason, to be hurt. “Alright but, I’m warning you dude, you better be in bed in one hour tops.”
With a shrug, Jason walked to your sink and opened the tap, letting the water flow on the dishes. He grabbed the sponge and started doing the dishes, not saying much more.
“So, Dick and Barbara. Your plan, uh?” He broke the silence as you were sweeping your apartment, the cleaning getting a little out of hand without you realizing.
“Well, it was obvious they were into each other, you know”, you moved the couch back towards the wall and kept sweeping your place. “It was bound to happen, you know.”
“You did it for Steph.”
“And Donna”, you laughed and spared a glance his way. He was currently drying all he had just washed. “They’re gonna give me fifty percent of what the guys just gave them.”
“Uh, didn’t think you were after money like that.”
“Why do you think I’m friends with you?” You winked at him over your shoulder, now sweeping under the table.
“Makes sense. Although, I kept telling Roy it was because of my amazing cooking skills”, he put the last glass in the cupboard, closing it while he turned around, looking in your direction. “I know my pastas are to die for.”
“That”, you grunted slightly as you moved the table a little, putting it back into its original place, “they are.” You let out a breath and took a small pause. “Pasta and money. The basis of all healthy friendships.”
Jason let out a raspy laugh, one that took you by surprise. It was a contrast with how quiet he had been all evening. Your smile grew wider and you desperately tried to hide it as you crouched down to collect the dust in the dustpan. You put the dust in the trash bag before tying it and putting it on the small balcony, closing the French window as you stepped back inside.
“Time you go to sleep”, you went to the kitchen, looking around you to make sure everything was more or less clean. You would finish in the morning anyway. “Get your beauty sleep.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Are you finished here?”
“Yep! Going to sleep until twelve, probably.”
“Alright. D'you know where I put my keys?”
“Countertop, the cup”, you dismissively said as you poured some water in a glass. You turned around just in time to see Jason swaying a little as he made his way to the other side of the countertop. “Alright buddy”, you ran after him, putting a hand on his arm before he could reach the keys. “You are not driving home.”
“I remember you telling me to get some sleep?” You could see the tiredness catching up with him as the alcohol left his system. You wondered how much he had drunk and, most importantly, what had made him drink that much tonight. Jason was a close friend, you had hung out together numerous times. You had seen him drink a lot more than you or even Dick or Kory, and he never had been in this state.
“Well, you’re gonna have to get some sleep here.” You locked the door before leading him to the couch, on which you pushed him down. “I’m not letting you go out there.”
“Alright, mom.”
You scoffed loudly, leaving him there with a roll of your eyes. You went to your room to grab a blanket, a pillow and Jason’s spare bag he had left one day, you couldn’t exactly recall when. To be fair, many of the local heroes had been dropping spare bags at your place throughout the years. You made a stop in the bathroom to grab a box of painkillers in case he woke up before you did.
As you walked down the small corridor that connected the living room and kitchen to the rest of your apartment, you bumped into a hard chest. You raised your head a little to meet Jason’s gaze, and you could feel his hands on your hips as he stabilized you so you wouldn’t fall down. You know it was just a reflex for him, but you couldn’t stop your heart from beating a little faster.
“Was wondering where you went”, he mumbled.
“Blanket, pillow, your spare clothes and”, you raised the hand holding the box of medicine in front of his eyes, “this, for the morning.”
“Oh, thanks. You didn’t have to”, you let out a quiet chuckle as he looked around him. You didn’t see him freeze as his eyes landed on what was just above the two of you.
“If I don’t want Alfred and Dick chastising me, yes I did”, you laughed loudly this time, still unaware of both your predicament. “That’s the least I could do, you know. Sorry you have to sleep on the couch, still don’t have a spare room."
"There’s mistletoe."
You hummed quietly, prompting him to explain himself further as you took off some dust from the blanket, holding the painkillers between your chin and chest.
"We’re right under the mistletoe.”
“Oh.”
You stopped what you were doing and let the box of medicine fall on the blanket to finally look up. There, unmistakable, was a branch of mistletoe.
“Oh yeah, forgot to take that one off”, you said under your breath. “You can just ignore that, let’s get you to bed.”
“Well, tradition is tradition”, countered Jason, finally looking at you.
“Sure, but we don’t have to”, you smiled warmly at him, trying to ignore the glint of what your mind discerned as sadness in his eyes. “I put them up mainly for Babs and Dick. And for, you know”, you shook your head a little, “everyone else, so they had an excuse to go at it.”
“Still, tradition is tradition, so”, he trailed off after that, looking at something just above your head.
“Okay."
You took a step closer to him, or at least as much as you could considering what you were carrying at the moment. You went on your tiptoe and, without giving it too much of a thought, you pecked Jason’s cheek, your lips lingering a moment too long on his skin.
"Alright buddy, now let’s get you to bed."
You gently grabbed his wrist and tugged him so he would follow you back in the living room. You tried as best as you could to ignore the fact that he was staring at you with something you couldn’t exactly pinpoint. You set the pillow down on the couch after making sure it was as comfortable as possible.
"Okay, take off your shoes and whatever, I’ll get you a glass of water.”
“I can get it."
"Focus on undressing yourself!"
You jogged to the kitchen, pouring some water from the tap in a glass and in a bottle. Not even two minutes later, you came back to set them on the coffee table, right next to the painkillers.
"Right so everything’s here”, you looked at Jason who was now lying on the couch, in nothing but his underwear, his right arm shielding his eyes from the light. “You know where everything else is. Your phone’s on the countertop where you left it. Sleep tight”, you finished, putting the blanket over his body.
“Hey”, his voice stopped you right as you were about to turn the lights off. “You should come home with me tomorrow. For this Christmas Eve dinner. It would be more bearable with you there."
"Jason”, you sighed and leaned on the wall on your left. “It’s a family dinner. Plus”, you pushed yourself off the wall, your hand hovering above the switch, “I doubt Bruce would be happy if I were to crash. Or Alfred, for that matter.”
“Pfff”, he turned his head so he would watch you, “Alfred loves you, he’d be more than happy. And he always cooks too much. As for Bruce, I don’t really care about what he has to say.”
“Well, I do.”
“You shouldn’t."
"Alright tell you what”, he straightened up a little so he could focus on your words better. “If tomorrow, when you’re not drunk nor hungover, you can assure me I won’t be be a bother during this dinner, I’ll come.”
“What, I just gotta call Alfred and tell him you’re coming? Deal!” He lied back down, eyes closed as a small smile played on his lips. “He’s gonna take care of Bruce.”
“We’ll see”, you laughed as you finally turned the lights off, leaving Jason in the living room as you walked towards your room, ready to drop on your bed and sleep for the next twelve hours.

Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7
Tumblr media
Arrow after arrow was shot to the target glued to the wall. You kept going, practicing was a good thing to keep your mind off things and also clear your head. Sometimes it was good to just let your pent up feelings go with every arrow that left your quiver.
You haven’t been out on patrol since you moved to Gotham two months ago, all you did was sometimes spare with Jason - that was a rare occurrence now, he had one of his many fights with Bruce and has been avoiding the manor lately. That left you to practice archery on your own, not that you minded, it was good being alone for a while.
You could feel Damian’s eyes on you. You knew he had been keeping a close eye on you ever since they found out about the whole League of Assassins stuff. Even if you hadn’t heard what they were talking at the kitchen, you would’ve still found out he was suspicious of you, he didn’t know how to keep a low profile when giving you murderous glares or muttering under his breath - maybe he wasn’t trying to be subtle, maybe he wanted you to know he was keeping tabs on you.
You didn’t mind him watching you, you just kept doing your thing at the batcave. You didn’t want to pick a fight with a twelve year old.
“Hi.” Tim said, a smile on his face as he came to a stop beside you “I didn’t see you at breakfast today.”
“Good morning.” You nodded your head, not daring to look at him “I didn’t have breakfast today.”
He frowned “Why not?”
“So I could practice.”
He nodded his head, watching you do your thing. You looked beautiful, deadly and beautiful. He couldn’t help but admire you, you didn’t even seem to notice - at least he hoped you didn’t, he didn’t want to seem creep.
“Do you want to have breakfast with me?” He asked before he could think about it
“I thought you already had breakfast.” You put your bow down to look at him
He smiled sheepishly “I could never pass up the opportunity to drink more coffee and spend some time basking at your company.”
You felt heat spread through your cheeks. That was very smooth of him.
You nodded your head, agreeing to his idea of breakfast. You didn’t trust your voice to not betray you with your feelings for him if you spoke your agreement out loud.
You put your bow and arrows away, taking that time to gain control back of your emotions. This is Tim, the guy who doesn’t trust you enough to ask you questions about you himself - you had to remind yourself that.
“I was thinking we could have breakfast at a cafe downtown.” He said, walking out of the cave with you “It is one of my favorite places, they have really good coffee.”
“Sure.” You smiled at him “I just need to get changed.”
Tim nodded, taking notice of your sports bra and leggings. He let his gaze linger on your body as you disappeared from his sight to go to your room to get dressed.
After taking a quick shower and throwing on some clothes, and sunscreen on your face. You went down to meet Tim waiting for you.
You honestly had no idea what to expect from this breakfast with him. You were still weary of him after the conversation you overheard. You are still waiting for him to tell you, but apparently he wasn’t going to do so, and you are honestly disappointed.
Dating had always been a hard thing for you, considering your life and everything. You tried dating people you met at high school, but you couldn’t exactly say ‘hi, I can’t go on a date with you tonight because I am helping the Green Arrow fight a big threat to the city.’ Then again, most people were only interested in dating a Queen and not to exactly date you. And you also did try to date Connor, but it just didn’t work, you see each other too much as a family to have romantic feelings involved.
And then you met Tim, and he was cute and sweet and pretty and soooo incredible. You really did think that maybe things would go right this time, but just like everyone else in your love life, he let you down.
As you sat at the coffee shop, stirring your drink with a straw, you watched as Tim seemed way too nervous. He kept pushing his hair back and gripping on his cup.
“Are you ok?” You questioned, eyeing him suspiciously
“Y-yeah. No.” He shook his head making you frown “There’s something you should know.”
You nodded, motioning for him to keep talking. Whatever he was going to tell you, didn’t seem like it was a good thing.
“I did something bad, something I really shouldn’t have done. And guilty has been eating me alive because I just can’t believe it I did it instead of taking to you.”
Oh. Oh. Oh.
Is he going to tell you what you think he is going to tell you?
"What did you do?" you asked quietly after a moment of silence
Tim took a deep breath before looking into your eyes. It was now or never.
"After you told us about the League of Assassins thing, I realized I didn't know much about you, so instead of asking you what I wanted to know I looked you up and found out a lot of things about you. I am really sorry I treated you as some sort of criminal, it was not my intention and I realized that I shouldn't have done that the minute I finished doing it."
You kept quiet, processing his words. Although you already knew the truth, you are still trying to find out if he really means what he said. He didn't seem to be lying, and he does seemed very nervous to tell you that.
"I already knew."
He blinked a few times, not fully comprehending what you had just said.
"I'm sorry, what?"
You smiled a little "I said I already knew what you did, Tim." you chuckled "I overheard you and your brothers talking in the kitchen."
"And you're not mad?" His eyes were wide, making him look adorable
"Oh, I am more upset and disappointed than mad. I didn't say anything because I wanted to know if you were going to tell me, and I am glad you did."
He nodded his head, feeling a bit of relief, but also sad you are upset and disappointed with him. These are not good feelings.
"I spent the last two week trying to find ways to tell you, none of them seemed good enough because what I did was really a shit action." He hesitantly grabbed your hand that was lying on top of the table, his cold fingers caressing your palm, making shivers go down your spine "I'm really sorry about what I did, y/n. And I totally understand if you don't want to talk to me anymore. I just need you to know that I am truly deeply sorry."
You smiled at him, squeezing his hand. Could this boy be more perfect?
"It's ok, Timmy, I understand why you did what you did. In this line of work, you can't make mistakes, even if it means doubting people you shouldn't be doubting." You leaned over the table, pecking his cheek "I forgive you."
Tim seemed to be in a daze for a few seconds, processing your words and the kiss you just gave him.
"Thank you. I don't know what I would do if you didn't want to talk to me anymore, I really like you."
His cheeks were tinted a dust pink and so were yours.
"I really like you, too."
Tumblr media
To say you and Tim were living daydreaming after having admitted you two liked each other was an understatement. You were so happy that he liked you two that it didn't even occur to you that you said you liked each other and then did nothing about it. But Dick Grayson was having none of it.
"So you're telling me you told y/n that you like her and she said she likes you back, but you didn't kiss her or even asked her out on a proper date?" he had to refrain himself from yelling out in frustration
He and Tim were standing together at a rooftop of an apartment building while on patrol. He asked his little brother how the two of you were doing, and although he was delighted to hear you both declared liking each other, he was very disappointed that was it. Nothing more happened.
"I was too busy making sure she didn't hate me after what I did." Tim shook his head, not believing his older brother was disappointed in him "I didn't know if I'd be rushing into things by kissing her after what I told her."
Dick nodded his head, heaving a sight "I know, I know. It is just that... Oh, there is so much sexual tension when you two are together, I just want you to kiss and be a happy sweet little couple together! Is that too much to ask?!"
The younger boy felt his cheeks heat up with what the other had said. There wasn't that obvious sexual tension between you two. Was there? Oh God, he hopes not, that would awkward for other people. Tim still remembers how he felt weird when Dick was pinning over Kori, the tension between them, the endless flirting and longing looks, it used to kill him to be in their presence with the Titans. He didn't want anyone to go trought what he did, and to know he was doing the same. The worst, or best, part was that he didn't even realize it because he was so enchanted by you that he didn't notice he was pinning over you that hard.
"I'll ask her to have dinner with me tomorrow." Tim settled with that, if you are still awake when he returns home from patrol then he will ask you out on a proper date, that's it
"Good, and then I will help you prepare it!" the older boy grinned at his little brother
Before Tim could reply, telling him there was no need to do so, Jason cut their conversation short.
"Although, I love to hear about replacement's love life, there is still a job to be done." he said trough the coms "So if you could meet me that would be great. There is some fucked up shit here."
Tumblr media
You didn't want to seem desperate, but you also couldn't help but stay awake waiting for Tim to return home after patrol. You had already talked for almost two hours on the phone with Connor, telling him everything that happened. Then you FaceTimed Oliver to see how his mission was doing, and proceeded to get very annoyed with the fact that he still refused to tell what the mission was, saying he would tell you everything once he gets back next week.
You also tried sleeping, but you kept thinking about your brother's safety and then your thoughts would drift back to Tim and how you wished when you kissed his cheek, earlier today, that you had kissing him on the mouth instead.
That left you wandering around the cave, telling Alfred you were just waiting for them to come back in case any of them were hurt and needed medical assistance. The butler knew you were just waiting for Tim to arrive, but didn't say anything, only gave you a knowing smile.
So when they all finally arrived home, you expected tired faces and sore muscles, not faces like they've seen ghosts. You frowned upon watching their expressions, did something happen?
Bruce had a deep frown on his face and quickly dismissed Alfred when he asked him something. Damian went straight to the showers, Dick and Jason had lost looks on their faces, and Tim seemed deep in thought, almost missing the chair as he sat down to use the batcomputer, typing furiously in it.
You bit your lower lip, it seemed like it had been a rough night. Thankfully none of them were hurt.
"Hey." you said in a low tone, not really wanting to disturb Tim, but also wanting to give him some comfort "Everything alright?"
He turned to look at you, in his hurry to use the computer he didn't even took his mask off. You raised your hands, brushing some hair from his forehead, and then pulling the mask away from his face, reveling his blue eyes and deep bags.
"Hi." he whispered, basking in your tender touch, you rubber his temple, trying to ease some tension "Just something that doesn't make sense."
You hummed, letting your hand go to his hair as you massaged his scalp with your fingernails. Tim closed his eyes, enjoining the sensation you were proportioning to him. He placed his arms around your waist, pulling you closer to him as he smushed his face against your chest, listening to your heartbeat. After what he saw tonight, feeling your warmth and sweet touch were everything his needed.
"Do you want to talk about it?" you questioned him, not wanting him to you trough this alone
"It is not something nice, I'm not sure if..." you placed a kiss on top of his head and he almost melted against you "It is a really horrible thing to say, are you sure you want to know it?"
"Yes." you tilted his back so he could look you in the eyes "Tell me, you don't have to suffer alone." you kissed both of his cheeks
Tim felt his insides burning, he wasn't used to so much affection. Of course, his brother Dick was a man of hugs, he loves to hug his brothers, but other than that, Tim is a pretty touch starved boy. He was almost sighing in contentment with your touch and kisses, he wanted nothing more than to just stay like this forever.
"Ok." he pulled back from you, still keeping his arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you down so you could sit on his thighs, he wanted to be able to look you in the eyes
You smiled at him, wrapping your arms around his shoulders.
So Tim proceeded to tell you what him and his family had seen tonight. The trail of bodies at the casino Jason asked them to meet him. All the blood and every single one of the people in there dead. How they all looked horribly, so many wounds, so many knives, arrows, bullets. It was honestly one of the worst things he had ever seen in his life - he was Red Robin and before that Robin, born and raised in Gotham, he had seen a lot of horrible things in his life, but what he saw tonight? It was absurd.
All the time he was telling you the events, you kept a comforting hand on him, wether caressing his hair, or trailing patters on his arms. He was glad you were there, making him calm and come down from the high emotions he was feeling.
"This sounds like something the League could do." you muttered
He shook his head "There was something off about that, it didn't look like the League of Assassins pattern."
"Maybe the League of Shadows?"
He shook his head again, staring at the computer screen across from you.
"Can you show me?" you asked, he frowned at you
"I don't think you should see it, pretty bird. It really is horrible."
"Maybe I can help. Please."
He hesitantly pulled the pictures he took with his phone, showing the casino littered with bodies. Your small hands zoomed into the picture, watching it with close eye and disgust, it really was horrible. You were sure this would cloud your nightmares tonight.
"I know this arrows." you said "Malcom Merlyn uses them."
"So you think this was a mercenary work?" he questioned, it did make a bit of sense, but it was so brutal the way they were killed
You shook your head. Still staring at the picture in front of you, a thousand of thoughts running trough your mind. Possibilites, theories, everything. You couldn't even bring yourself to conclude one thought before another came crashing down.
Tim gripped at your hands before closing the picture. Staring at it would do you no good. He also didn't want to look at it anymore for now.
You turned around to look at him, a frown adorning your face making him worry.
"Timmy, have you ever heard of the Ninth Circle?"

Infinity War
A/N
Hiya cuties, here’s my first one shot. I hope you guys like the new series. Expect more to come. Also feel free to leave comments and asks if you guys are curious they are always welcome :).
One thing Jason Loved about Gotham was the buildings. They were high. Jumping off of them gave him the adrenaline rush nothing else will.
Although he would never admit it he loved jumping off buildings with Dick. Ever since he was Robin he and Dick would play rooftop tag. Dick, of course, would make it difficult by jumping off roofs and creating some of the best acrobatic tricks.Of course, Jason being Jason didn’t like being shown up. He would try to recreate the stunts but unfortunately, Dick was astronomically flexible, Jason was not.
He would usually end up having to deploy his grapple early.
One very terrifying time his grapple didn't deploy and Dick wound up having to save him. Bruce was of course incredibly pissed off. They wound up having a big blow up and didn’t talk for weeks. Again.
Dick, however, did end up taking Jason to an amusement park and treated him to ice cream. That was one of the best days ever That Jason could remember. Again he will never admit it.
Right now he was racing against Dickface to get to their motorcycles to meet up with bats and bats the second. Marinette was going to be there, she had zeta-beamed from Paris to attend the meeting.
Tony Stark disappeared in an Alien Ship above New York City. The rest of the Avengers or ex-Avengers were missing.
Batcave,Wayne Manor Gotham City,USA 4:30 a.m
“Sup Marinette, what’s our game plan for handling this??” Jason asked once they entered the cave. Marinette was still in her pajamas unlike everyone else who was in their Gear albeit mask-less.
“I tried calling Peter but according to his aunt and mom he’s missing too!!” Marinette exclaimed. Seriously what was it with that boy and his incessant need to get into trouble. He gives a bad name to bug-named superheroes.
“Unfortunately we don’t know what has happened to the Stark boys” Bruce responded. Placing a reassuring hand on Marinettes and Tims shoulders. Both were very close friends with the spider-boy.
“Right now we all need to go to our respective cities or superhero teams and prepare for a possible alien invasion” He continued.
The Bat computer began to beep “Guys I think the possible alien invasion started an hour ago” Oracles voice stated. “Crap for some reason our alerts didn’t respond to the breaches in the atmosphere.”
“Where?” Batman snapped
“Wakanda”
“The closest zeta beam is 4 hours away from Wakanda” Dick noted bringing up his wrist computer and listing zeta beam locations.
“Some of the rouge avengers are there already, allegedly,” Oracle noted.
“We won’t be of use, we have to get ready to defend the rest of earth if the fighting spreads, No one leaves Gotham, let's get prepped and split into teams” Batman ordered.
Bruce was scared, he didn’t want to risk his kids and the last thing he wanted to do was get separated from his kids during an alien invasion.
“The majority of the fighting has decreased and most of the Aliens have been kille- HOLY CRAP the energy signature in Wakanda is off the grid!!” Oracles mechanized voice exclaimed.  Jason was cleaning all of his weapons as well as his “hood’. Marinette changed into all black outfit into some sweats. Everyone else was making sure to get prepped.
For a family worried about an alien invasion they sure seemed to be going about normal. Weirdos.
Crash. Boom
Jason swiveled around and was startled to See Dick doubling over, Damian was frantic at his side trying to ask what was wrong with him. Crash. Jason swiveled around once again but this time he saw Cass doubling over with Bruce trying to help.
This time it was Barbara's voice that can be heard not her voice disguised as Oracle. “Guys something is seriously wrong,”
Marinette was frantically trying to take off her earrings. Tim was helping her. Jason immediately rushed over to help Damian with Dick.
‘Grayson Speak Tell me what is wro-” Damian demanded. Jason was occupied trying to sit him up. A glance to the side revealed Bruce With Tim supporting Cass and Marinette. Jason had never seen a look like that on Bruces' face. Pain and worry etched into every crevice on his face.
“DICK” Jason turned towards Damian's frantic cry. He was horrified to see Dick was Disintegrating. What the hell!?
“Jason” oh. Dick was talking to him and holding his shoulder. “Take care of Dami and the family” terrified blue eyes met Jasons.
“Cease that nonsense Grayson” Damian yelled while clinging to Grayson. Dick hugged him “I’m sorry” Damian lurched forward and he suddenly wasn’t clinging to anything anymore. Damian glanced at his hands wide-eyed they were covered in Ashes, Dicks ashes. Jason pulled him up and took him towards the training area and for once Damian didn't protest.
Cass And Marinette
Bruce was there covered in ash as well staring at his lap. Cass was nowhere to be seen. No. Tim was focused on Marinette, who was disintegrating as well but oddly at a slower pace. Jason immediately knelt next to her.
“W-whats going on, i-it hu-hurts” Marinette wheezed out. She pushed her earrings towards Tim, Tikki was floating nearby terrified at the sight. No way, she couldn’t lose another one of her Ladybugs.
 Bruce was suddenly there.
“Marinette sweetie hold on hold o-please hold on” Holy crap Bruce was crying.
Tim was frantically talking to Tikki Jason only caught snatches. Soul stone. Snap.Avengers. Dying.
He was too focused on his baby sister who was disappearing to listen to the rest. “D-dad no, I don’t wanna go, nonononono, Jace, timmy, I don’t wanna leave” She choked out. With a gasp she finally disappeared too leaving Bruce to clutch at her ashes.
Damian was staring at the sight of his Father clutching at his sister's ashes.
Bruce's face suddenly snapped up and he took off for a mad dash towards the steps, Tim following closely behind. Damian was too occupied staring at the spot where Dick disappeared. Jason noted that his eyes were watering.
Take Care of Dami. Oh, screw it. Jason pulled Damian towards his chest and clutched him towards his chest. “Damian it’s okay, it’s okay I swear we are going to be fine, I promise” Damian breathing suddenly hitched and sobs started coming out. Jason couldn’t help it and allowed the water in his eyes to release as well.
Hearing footsteps he looked to the side and saw Tim was staring wide-eyed at the sight as well. Surprisingly Damian reached out and grabbed his wrist to pull him into the sob fest. Jason readjusted his grip to make space.
“Alfred's Gone,” Tim said in between sobs. “Jon, Artemis, Bizarro, Kori, Beast boy, Roy, and a good chunk of the Justice League have disappeared.” Barbara included. Jason forgot she was there. Jason hated himself at the moment. He had to let go of the group hug to go to the monitor.
If Roy was gone, who was taking care of Lian? A quick hack revealed Oliver clutching to a terrified Lian.
A second hack showed a cheerful Jon munching on a snack next to his parents who were busy typing on their laptops in a restaurant Suddenly he gasped and his granola bars fell. Clark immediately jumped up and in a few seconds Jon disintegrated into ash Lois fell after she didn't have anything to clutch. Jason cut the video feed before he looked at Lanes and Clark's reactions.
Damian was suddenly at his side. Jason heard a soft "no". Dang the poor demon brat just lost his best friend and a bunch of his more patient siblings.
Tim was off trying to help Oracle figure out how much of the superhero team disappeared. Thankfully Stephanie was spared the disappearing.
A few more video feed hacks revealed pretty much the same thing. People disintegrating in front of loved ones and even rivals. Friggin Riddler disintegrated in front of a shocked spoiler. This was happening everywhere! People suddenly turning to ash. How bad did the Avengers screw up?
Bruce was distraught. He has just lost 3 of his children all in under a minute. The only evidence left of Alfred was a pile of ashes. Bruce picked up a vase and immediately threw it towards a wall. He started throwing whatever was in arms reach. A red blur stopped him from throwing another vase.
Tikki.
“BRUCE STOP” She cried. “Don’t do this Marinette, Cass and Dick wouldn’t want you to spiral”
“Well they’re all dead aren't they?” He bit out. Bruce didn't care anymore. Screw her. How dare she. He lost so much. That darkness that had receded inside of him was coming back full force. This time he wasn’t sure if they would be able to come back.
The loss of Dick alone is devastating. He was everyone's favourite brother. Cass was the ultimate overprotective sister, and the one that everyone was extremely protective of. Marinette was sweet and gentle, yet she still had a heart of gold. Both she and Dick were the type of people that made everyone around them fall in love with them. Alfred was his father, he stuck with him for everything
They were all gone.

The first thing anyone learns about Dick Grayson upon meeting him is that he is a gigantic flirt. Since the day he could smile, Dick has always been charming and flirty, like a true showman. You’ve always known this about him, but damn, it made things complicated when you realized your feelings for him.
Trying to gauge someone else’s feelings for you when they are one of the flirtiest people you know is next to impossible, so instead of confronting your feelings, you pushed them down. That always works, right? Besides, letting unrequited feelings wreck a good friendship wasn’t worth the risk.
Dick’s unrequited feelings solidified when he started dating Kori. You completely understand the appeal-- Kori is a gorgeous, loving badass, but it still hurts to see them together. But you’re a good, supportive friend to both Kori and Dick, so you shoved your feelings down again, and you got really good at ignoring your feelings.
But on nights like this, it’s hard to ignore them, so you do what you’ve learned to do best-- distract yourself.
Tonight, your way of getting out of the Titan’s Tower was going on patrol alone. But of course, you’re distracted and didn’t notice that the mugger has not one knife, but two. You definitely noticed when the knife was buried in your side then ripped out, along with a large chunk of skin and lots of blood.
As you lay on the cold ground, the shapes above you blur together in a black blob. Your side burns and warm liquid oozes onto the sidewalk. This isn’t good. You should do something. You should call someone. Call someone? Who? Your head feels fuzzy and your body feels funny. Being stabbed should be more painful right?
A sharp wave a pain stabs your sides, making you wince. Ouch, okay, yes this does hurt. Your arms are filled with lead. The idea of lifting them is next to impossible. They are too heavy. Have your arms always been this heavy? You don’t think so…
You need to call someone. Who should you call? Dick. Dick always helps.
You slowly lift your arm, your side protesting. You groan in pain but manage to dig your phone out of your utility belt and call the first number at the top of your starred contacts.
“Hello?” Dick answers after the second ring.
“Dick,” You groan as another wave of pain shoots through your side. “I need help.”
He immediately snaps into leader mode.
“Y/N, where are you? What happened?”
“I...I got stabbed,” You wince, taking a slow deep breath through the pain. “I went on patrol…”
“Where are you?” Dick asks sharply.
You distantly hear another voice in the background. Where are you? There’s a building. It’s tall. It’s really tall. Is it tall? Or does it feel tall because you’re laying on the ground?
“There’s a really tall building…” You spot a faded name on the side of it. “It’s an old Nike warehouse…”
“Okay, Y/N, stay awake, okay? We’re coming to get you.”
We?
We? Who is we? Are there two Dicks? No, there’s just Dick. One Dick. But we?
There was something going on tonight. There was a reason you decided to go on patrol. Why did you decide to go on patrol? You can’t remember. Your head feels funny. Everything feels too thick. It feels like you’re swimming. There’s so much liquid around you, maybe you are swimming.
“You’re swimming?!” Dick demands.
“Huh?” You ask, dazed.
“You said you feel like you’re swimming, are you in water?!”
That was out loud?
“Um… I don’t think so…” You hand splashes in a nearby puddle. Something is wet around you.
You lift your hand, but it’s red and melting. No, not melting, it’s bleeding. When did you hit your hand? Your hand hits the ground again with a wet thump. More red splashes up. The ground is bleeding? No, wait. The ground isn’t bleeding, you’re bleeding. A lot.
You lift your bloody hand again.
“Uh oh,” You whisper, then everything goes dark.
. . .
You wake up with a groan in your bed at Titan Tower. There’s an IV in your left arm and a temporary heart monitor set up next to your bed. You got stabbed, right.
Your head lulls to the right and you see Dick nodding off in a chair near your bed while Kori scrolls on her phone. She looks up at the sound of your groan, her eyes flooding with relief.
“You’re awake!” She exclaims, nudging Dick.
Dick jerks awake, notices your eyes are open, then tackles you into a tight hug.
“Thank God you’re okay,” He mutters into your hair, holding you tight.
You squeeze back then Dick releases you with a relieved smile.
“How are you feeling?” Kori asks.
“Sore,” You answer honestly. “What happened?”
“You don’t remember?” Dick frowns.
You shrug.
“I remember going on patrol, but everything after that is foggy.”
“You got stabbed,” Dick tells you, his eyebrows furrowed together. “You called us to help you.”
“Right,” You nod, regret hitting you hard.
You could’ve just stayed at the tower and hung out with Garth or Victor, but no, you wanted more distraction. What were you even distracting yourself from? You couldn’t remember then you look more closely at what Kori is wearing.
She’s wearing a flattering dress and lovely jewelry. Her makeup is done perfectly and Dick is wearing a nice button-down with a tie. Why are they dressed up? Oh crap.
Last night was Dick and Kori’s one year anniversary.
They were both very excited about their plans, which they both separately told you. Of course, being a good friend, you listened and got excited for them, but when it came time for the night, you slipped out on patrol before seeing Dick or Kori to avoid the ugly jealousy and hurt you knew would bubble up in your stomach.
But of course, your plan completely backfired when you called Dick in the middle of his romantic evening with Kori to save you from bleeding out. Some friend you are.
“You lost a lot of blood, so you’re bedridden for a few days,” Dick tells you. “Doctor’s orders.”
“Great,” You groan, laying back then an itch builds in your throat, throwing you into a painful coughing fit that leaves you gasping for breath with tears in your eyes and a deep ache in your side.
“I’ll get you something to drink,” Dick offers.
You nod tearfully, still taking deep breaths to calm yourself down, but you don’t miss the way Kori pulls Dick down by his tie into a kiss. He kisses back then kisses her head with a small smile before hurrying out of the room to get you some water.
Kori moves, sitting next to you on the bed, stroking your hair. You take another deep breath, a tense silence between you two. Kori is an expressive person, so even when she tries to hide her feelings, she’s very obvious. By her stiff movements, set jaw, and irked eyebrows, you know she’s angry.
“What’s wrong?” You ask in a hoarse voice.
Kori raises her eyebrows.
“You’re asking me that?” She scoffs. “You got stabbed. I should be asking you that.”
You wave her off.
“Getting stabbed is old news. You’re angry. What’s wrong?”
“It doesn’t matter right now. What matters is you’re okay,” Kori dodges the question.
“Kori, come on, I’m fine! Besides, I’ve been hurt way worse! I want to know why you’re upset.”
“You almost bled out,” Kori snaps. “We found you, soaked in your own blood. I don’t think you realize how close you came to dying!”
“But I’m okay,” You insist. “We come close to dying all the time. Please, I want to know why you’re upset.”
“It’s not important.”
“It is if it’s bothering you!”
“Leave it alone, Y/N,” Kori snaps.
“No,” You respond stubbornly. “You’re one of my best friends. I want to know what’s wrong.”
She sighs then snaps:
“Why did you call Dick last night?! You knew what night it was!”
You sigh, knowing this was coming.
“I...I know… I’m sorry, Kori. I totally forgot.”
“I’m glad you’re okay, Y/N, I really am, but you could’ve called anyone else in the Tower.”
“I know, it’s just… Dick was the first person I thought of and I wasn’t thinking straight, I’m sorry.”
“You always do this.”
“What?”
“You always do this,” Kori snaps. “Anytime I finally get any alone time with Dick, you swoop in and take him with you.”
“I…” You blink, speechless.
“Any time we try to do a date night outside of the Tower, there’s some emergency or case you need help with. On Dick’s birthday you insisted we should spend with the team. On my birthday, you wanted to make it a girls’ night out. We never get alone time.”
“Kori...I…” You don’t know what to say.
While you weren’t intentionally trying to sabotage their relationship, Kori is right. You never noticed how often you interrupted, but now you wonder how long Kori has been angry about this.
Dick walks back in with a cup of water to a tensely quiet room.
“Everything okay…?” He asks slowly, handing you the water.
You take a few sips then nod.
“Yeah… Dick, can you let me and Kori talk privately?”
“Uh…” Dick hesitates and glances at Kori who nods her head. “Sure…”
He leaves the room, shutting the door behind him. You turn to face Kori as best as possible.
“Kori, you have to believe me when I say that I was not doing any of that intentionally. I’m sorry. I’m not trying to come between you and Dick.”
Kori scoffs.
“Once or twice would make sense, but this many times?”
“I’m sorry, I really am! I didn’t know I was doing it!”
“Please, you had to notice after a certain point. I know I told you about last night and I’m sure Dick did too.”
“You did… I just… I swear I forgot until this morning.”
“How convenient,” Kori snaps.
“I’m not lying.”
“I might have believed you if this was the first or second time, but you do this every time without fail.”
“What, you think I left last night wanting to get stabbed?” You snap.
“There is a tower full of very capable Titans and all of them were here last night. You could’ve called any of them! I find it hard to believe the only person you could think of was Dick.”
“What are you trying to accuse me of?” You growl.
Kori laughs humorlessly.
“What does it sound like?! You’ve been in love with Dick and have been trying to steal him from me!”
“I… What?” Hearing it out loud really made it all real. Were your feelings that obvious?
“You’re in love with Dick, I can tell. And your response is sabotage apparently.”
“Kori, I--”
“No. Don’t try to tell me you don’t have feelings for him,” She snaps. “I can tell by the way you look at him.”
“No, I… I do,” You sigh. “But I promise I haven’t been trying to steal him from you! Not intentionally…”
Kori sighs and looks away, her eyes brimming with tears.
“Yeah…” She says. “You’re right. For it to be stealing, that would mean he doesn’t want to go.”
“Kori…” You say softly, your heart breaking at the sight of your friend crying. “Dick loves you. He and I… We’re just close friends.”
“No, you’re not,” Kori shakes her head, pressing her lips together. “He looks at you the way he looks at me. Dick is in love with you too.”
“He’s known me for years, but we’ve never been romantically involved! He’s dating you!”
“That doesn’t mean anything,” Then Kori stands up and leaves the room, shutting the door behind her.
You sag into your pillows, a million contradicting thoughts racing through your head. Dick… has feelings for you? There’s no way. He’s Dick! He could have anybody he wants. He’s never shown any interest in you. He’s flirty, you can never tell when he’s actually flirting and when he’s not.
Even if Dick does feel the same, you can barely feel excited if it means Kori will be left heartbroken. She’s one of your best friends! You couldn’t hurt her that way! Dick is her boyfriend! That’s extremely unfair to her!
Dick pokes his head into the room.
“Is everything okay? Kori just left crying, but she won’t talk to me.”
You stare at your bed for a moment, then slowly look up, the confidence you’ve never felt giving you the courage to ask the question that’s been burning on your mind for years.
“Do you have feelings for me, Dick?”
He blinks, fully stepping into the room.
“What?”
“Do you have feelings for me?” You repeat.
He frowns.
“I’m dating Kori.”
“That doesn’t answer the question.”
Dick frowns again and sits at the foot of your bed.
“Where did this come from?” He asks.
“Kori accused me of trying to steal you from her and said you’re in love with me.”
Dick silently stares at his lap, one hand fiddling nervously with his tie.
“Do you--”
“Yes,” He says quietly. “And I have for a long time.”
You want to be happy. You want to be over the moon, but Kori’s heartbroken face is the only thing on your mind.
“What the hell?!” You demand. “What do you mean you have for a long time?! Then what the hell have you been doing with Kori?! Why have you just been leading her on?!”
“I’m not trying to lead Kori on!” Dick tries to defend himself.
“Do you love her?” You ask.
“Yes!” He replies instantly, but his head drops and he adds quietly. “...But it was never the same way I felt about you…”
“Why did you feel the need to string her along for this long then?” You snap.
“I didn’t mean to! I swear… I just… I never knew if you felt the same and I was scared to ruin our friendship so I tried to ignore my feelings… But they never went away.”
“So you used Kori as a distraction,” You scoff. “And I bet you didn’t even consider what kind of effect that would have on her.”
“No, Y/N, it wasn’t like that--”
“Get out.”
“What?”
“Get out. I want to be alone.”
Dick looks like he wants to say something else, but he doesn’t. Instead, he slowly stands up and leaves the room, shutting the door behind him quietly. Millions of thoughts swirl around your head. You groan, falling back against the pillows. What a mess.
. . .
For the next few days, you follow the doctor’s orders, staying in bed and allowing your body to heal. You eventually start wandering around the Tower, effectively avoiding Dick and Kori. You’re still extremely angry with Dick’s manipulation against your best friend… And Kori? You don’t even know what to say to her…
Finally, you work up the courage to go talk to Kori. She deserves the truth. You knock softly on the door. She opens the door, eyebrows slightly raised.
“Can we talk?” You ask.
She steps aside, letting you in and you both sit on her bed.
“I’m sorry,” You say for what feels like the hundredth time. “You were right. I have been in love with Dick for a long time, but I never thought he felt the same so I always tried to push the feelings down. I never meant to come between you two though, I swear.”
Kori nods along, looking down at her bed before admitting to you:
“Dick and I broke up.”
You look up, ready to comfort her, but she holds up her hand and shakes her head.
“I broke up with him.”
You sigh, looking down at the bed.
“I have no idea what to do, Kori.”
“Go talk to Dick. Get everything out in the open.”
“I don’t know if I want to date him,” You admit.
“You don’t have to,” Kori tells you. “But you need to talk to him.”
You nod then go find Dick.
. . .
“I’ve had feelings for you since we were…” You pause, trying to remember the right age. “About thirteen?”
Dick sighs with relief, a small smile starting to form.
“Yeah… Yeah, I have too… Well, not that long. I think I realized how I felt about you when we were like… Seventeen, I think?”
“And I was also scared to ruin our friendship, so I get it,” You admit.
“So, where do we go from here?” Dick asks. “I’m assuming you know Kori broke up with me.”
“Yeah, she told me… Honestly, I don’t know,” You tell him. “Yes, I have feelings for you and you have feelings for me, but I don’t think we should date… Not right now. You just got out of a long, fairly serious relationship. Believe it or not, Dick, being single is healthy.”
He chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
“You’re not the first person to tell me that,” He grins.
You chuckle, feeling a rush of affection for this adorable idiot.
“Also, we definitely shouldn’t date while Kori is still on the team and while we live in the Tower with her… That’s just not fair to her.”
“Okay…” Dick nods. “But… When? Because I don’t know how well I could maintain a friendship. I’ve liked you for a really long time, Y/N.”
“I don’t know…” You tell him slowly. “And I know that’s frustrating, but I don’t know… I think I need to leave the Titans for a little while,” Dick’s face falls. “Not permanently,” You assure him. “But I haven’t had time to be on my own yet.”
“I…” Dick sighs. “Yeah, I get it. I’ll miss you.”
You smile sadly and kiss him on the cheek.
“I’ll miss you too.”
. . . One Year Later . . .
Bludhaven is a pretty shitty city if you’re being honest with yourself. It reminds you a lot of Gotham, but if you expected to actually discover something about yourself and further explore your identity as the Black Hawk, you couldn’t go to Gotham where Batman would promptly kick you out. So instead, you’ve ended up in Bludhaven, an equally shitty city.
The time away from the Titans has been good for you. While you miss your friends like crazy, especially Dick, you’ve learned a lot about yourself. It’s been a good year.
As you reflect on your time in Bludhaven while staring out at said city in your Black Hawk armor at a strange hour, a familiar voice startles you.
“You know, there’s this girl that I’ve really liked for a long time and by some miracle, it turns out she also likes me,” Dick sits down next to you in his Nightwing uniform, continuing his monolog. “Some crazy stuff happened and she needed some time to herself. But in that time, I never thought she’d manage to find a city worse than Gotham.”
You laugh, grinning at Dick.
“So, might I say,” Dick finishes. “Fancy seeing you here.”
You laugh again, shaking your head.
“You’re ridiculous.”
Dick shrugs with a grin.
“It’s part of my charm.”
“Oh, is that what people tell you?” You tease.
“All the time,” Dick grins. “It’s good to see you,” He nudges your shoulder.
“It’s good to see you too,” You smile back.
“So, Bludhaven, huh?” Dick asks.
“Yeah,” You sigh, staring out into the city. “It’s not that bad.”
“Really?” Dick asks with raised eyebrows. “I hear some pretty crazy stuff about Bludhaven at the station.”
“Nothing that can top Gotham though.”
Dick laughs.
“Ain’t that the truth. Gotham is truly one of a kind.”
“Besides, Bludhaven is pretty cool if you know where to look.”
“I’m sure you know all the good spots.”
“Of course,” You grin.
“You’ll have to show them to me sometime, maybe this Friday?”
“Dick Grayson, are you asking me on a date?” You ask.
“Depends,” Dick looks sheepish for a moment. “What’s your answer?”
You laugh.
“I would love to go on a date with you.”
Dick grins, wrapping his arm around your shoulder in a side hug. You lean into the hug, but pull away and stand up.
“It’s been a year since I’ve seen you, give me a proper hug,” You demand, holding your arms open.
Dick grins and stands, wrapping you in a tight hug. He kisses the top of your head, and you pull back, so you can see his face, his arms still wrapped around you.
“So, Nightwing, huh?” You ask.
Before you left, Dick was playing with the idea of Nightwing, but given his costume, he seems to have made a decision.
“Yeah,” Dick nods. “I needed something new… Especially when Bruce decided he could give Robin away apparently,” His face twists into a sour look.
You heard about the new Robin. He is strong, and effective. He doesn’t move with the same grace as Dick does, but with speed and force, making him a menace. While you’re sure there’s a lot to unpack about Bruce Wayne’s newest adoptee, Jason Todd, you’ll have plenty of time to talk about that.
He sighs, resting his forehead against yours.
“I missed you… a lot,” His arms tighten around you.
“I’ve missed you too,” You admit.
Even though the year apart has been good, you couldn't help but to see Dick in everything, whether it was a new movie, successfully pulling off a new trick, or feeling the wind against your face as you swing through the city. You’ve missed your best friend.
You run your fingers through his dark hair, resting your hand against his cheek. His eyes flicker down to your lips, his nose brushing against yours before Dick pushes forward, pressing your lips together in a gentle kiss. You grin through the kiss, especially when Dick pulls you close against his chest.
“You know, I thought the first kiss came after the first date,” You tease.
Dick rolls his eyes with a grin.
“I’ve been wanting to kiss you for seven years. I was not going to wait another two days,” He grins then kisses you again. “Besides,” He murmurs against your lips. “I don’t hear your complaining.”
And you wouldn’t because you’ve been dreaming about this since you were thirteen. It’s good to be back.
Maybe one day my fics won’t have someone get stabbed or injured. I don’t know why my imagination is so violent. I would also love to play with the idea of Dick and Jason’s relationship when Bruce first brought Jason home because Dick was an ass. I hope you enjoyed!

Reader and her boyfriend get into an argument at the tower and he hits her? Dick is furious because he’s in love with her but the reader is just embarrassed?
Thanks for the request and I’m so sorry it took so long! But alas, here it is. I really wanted to write this one, as well as some other I have pending, but I just couldn’t find the words. I’m not 100% satisfied with this one (there’s no lemoney or anything unu), but I think I made my point across towards the important thing of this relationship. Don’t stay in one where physical abuse is condoned!
SUMMARY: As stated by ask, thought I think I took some liberties, Reader has been a Vigilante for some time in California, all on her own. The Titans arrive, and both join forces: Dick and Reader click specially well together, but to his demise, she is already in a relationship. A happy one? He cannot really say, specially when the red flags start to arise and a surprising discovery comes up.
WORD COUNT: 4780
TW: Swearing and past mentions of physical abuse in a relationship. It’s not hardcore, as always I try to make it somewhat vague, but I thought I should let my readers know. Oh, and warning, I THINK, Dick in this one is somewhat OOC. I think it might be due to my lack of sleep, but just beware.
Please don’t give it up — Dick Grayson x Reader
They all dealt with their own human affairs in the best fashion that they knew. The secret identities were given; it was something that no one was supposed to share unless absolutely necessary (which hadn’t been the case yet), and thus the exertion of powers was forbidden (unless, again, of absolute necessity). No one got into no one’s business, and as hard as it was becoming, Dick himself made that rule after having Kori meddled into his own private relationships. So now he couldn’t come between (Y/N) and his stupid human boyfriend, as much as he wanted to. It was stupid anyways – as much people liked him in, he was definitively not supposed to be there.
But he should start from the beginning. (Y/N) had joined the group a little after the Titans had settled themselves down on the Tower. She had already been a Vigilante in San Francisco; thus “they” were the ones entering her territory. She worked the city alone, and as such received the help without resentment or suspicions. After all, all she wanted to do was keep safe as much as anyone else. It was her home after all. As a lonely vigilante (Y/N) tended to go on her own, and maybe that’s why she had such a crazy magnetism to Dick. She never spoke too much of anything unless questioned, she was intelligent and clearly knew everything she talked about. In that sense she was a bit like Tim: definitely not the star or talker of the room, but the most intelligent by far. She had started to join forces with the Titans before her official joining months before their first crisis on the city: massive bombings, attacks on civilian areas. It was pure terror, specially in the famous Golden Gate Bridge (who would have said they would be JUST like those superheroes in movies?). That was, if Dick remembers correctly, the first time he saved (Y/N)’s boyfriend. Now he wishes he would have just let his car sunk in the bottom of the ocean.
The crisis had made them both coordinate; she had taken care of a certain area of the city all by herself (she had been backed up after with the help of the Titans, reluctantly he must said), while his group and some more had taken care of the other. They had been a good team, good leaders. (Y/N) accepted her place within them, as one more but always above everyone else. Dick and everyone else thought something would flourish between them that same night, when they got tipsy and drunk celebrating the latest addition: they had been a bit touchy, jabbing each other with witty jokes and comebacks, until… She had just excused herself, saying she had to go back to her own apartment. He perfectly remembers the conversation and the silence following it:
“You know the Tower is just your home as much as-“
“Yeah, no, absolutely. You’re the sweetest. Seriously, I just have to go check on somebody after the crazy day. And I should definitively feed my dog.”
“Oh yeah? I had one too back in Gotham. Well, half. Ace was never really mine.”
“Really? I’m sure he misses you. I would.” And yes, she must have been flirting; the rest of the Titans had given them space, moving towards the windows while they appeared to be exiting. Her small and hot hand had paused on his chest, maybe just trying to keep stable. “Byron is always like crazy when I get home. I really hope Daryl has taken him today to the vet, though. Ugh, who knows, he told me-“
“I’m assuming Byron is your dog and Daryl your br-?”
“Boyfriend, yeah. We’ve been now some time.”
At that point they had been at the elevator, she almost in and him in a “suave” manner leaning into the iron of the doors so that the conversation could go in a little bit more. But he almost stumbled into it as soon as she said that: and everyone else could, seeing as there was a bit of a silence and after some not-so-glamorous half-laughing half-choking sounds from Wally.
And that had been one of their last nights alone. At least for some time, seeing as Dick thought it would be just a momentary infatuation, a bit of a crush. Something temporary based solely on lust, seeing as he knew little to nothing on her. She was secretive still, quiet, as commandeering as she could be at times. She was an enigma that Dick liked to detangle and know more than he would admit to himself. It had taken months for him to finally acknowledge that what he felt was definitively something more meaningful that a simple crush or shallow sexual desire.
That’s when he knew he was fucked.
           …
“Oh, no, no, he is currently working at the San Francisco Chronicle. Yeah, he’s a photographer. Would you mind if maybe we… Posed sometime for him? Or gave him something exclusive? I mean, I would do it myself but he knows me too well. He would know it’s me.” Dick, Wally and her had been sparring for a bit. More concretely, she and Wally had been. He was correcting both of them from aside, seeing as it had become increasingly difficult to talk without actually falling for her. Wally honestly felt bad for him.
“What do you mean? Haven’t you-? Does he know?”. Wally was probably the only one with a stable healthy relationship. Linda knew. They were perfect. Everyone knew they would get married, and that’s why Dick had backed off, thinking that was the case for (Y/N) and the nameless perfect boyfriend he had pictures in his own mind.
“No! No, fuck, no. Daryl is… Difficult, to say the least. He thinks I’m working at some crappy editorial. He’s a bit protective. And a bit of an asshole.” It sounds slightly bitter, added in the last second, improvised. Like she didn’t mean to say it. Her eyes cross his, and she quickly averts it, going back to Wally’s. “We’ve been together for years, but it’s not the type of thing I would tell him”
“Yes, I know. It’s the type of thing you tell to a stupid bunch of teenage kids with delirious dreams of sweet greatness and-OUCH. That hurts!”
“Keep your head on the game, West.”
He gains hope. That small breach he has caught you on, after some months half-ignoring you half putting distance between you both, he thinks he may be able to fill. He can be the glue. He will try, as douchey as it can sound.
           …
“You are insufferable, Dick Grayson!”. She shouts, as they enter the kitchen. She is using a small towel to take off the sweat from her forehead. Wally had been more of a tutorial in comparison with Dick’s force. He had full on challenged her. “So smug, fuck… And now I have to go back home like this. I hate you.”
“Can’t help it. You like to be riled up”. He is bold. Wally chokes on his water, and quickly excuses himself, probably knowing which way he was trying to take things to. And he definitively was not good at hiding emotions.
“Oh, come on, like you don’t like to be defied and challenged. You have a huge masochistic streak, Grayson”.
YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW, he screams inside his own head, smiling just a bit, in that way that makes her roll her eyes off. Even if she claims some kind of rush when saying she has to go, he can see she doesn’t want to. Her arms rest on the kitchen counter, cool marble that has her face in pure bliss, and her legs, he imagines, are jelly. She should just-
“Why don’t you take a shower at the Tower stay? Or… At the very least I can call you a taxi.”
“I don’t have clothes here, and it’s fine. I’m not spending much time at home anyways; I think it will be good…” There’s a small silence, where he thinks he might have fucked it up. Did it sound too forward? Could he ask how things were with the famous boyfriend? No, that was probably too petty, too jealous-“… But I won’t say no to the taxi. Just today, though.”
“Sure. Let me call it up.”
           …
           That brings the problems.
“I’m sorry, I will be back in a second. It’s urgent.” They were in the middle of a debriefing. Patrols for the week, which she takes more seriously than anyone – but the mobile had started vibrating like crazy, even she had it on silence. Apparently, that one contact was special and overruled every control and silent tone. Dick could only imagine who it was. “Just continue.”
She takes it up, and her voice changes immediately: sweet, cheerful, giggly. Even as he continues talking, Dick can hear her feet on their way to the lounge, as far as possible. Is it that private? He can’t get distracted as he is giving out missions, but her tone makes all of them stop, stare at the door where (Y/N) is elevating her voice. Dick shushes the Titans up like a bunch of kids with the latest gossip and orders them to stay, as he gets out of the room towards her.
“No! What the fuck is your problem, D.?”. Ouch. She had been using the same name with him in their latest sparring session. That fucking hurts. “No! Of course I’m not, how-! No, oh my God, if I have to repeat myself one more time, Daryl! I’m not cheating on you!”
There’s a deafening silence, a small dance of victory in his own head. He knows he should be taking it more seriously (they might break up and he knows she loves him), but he can’t help but take this small point from Daryl’s ghostly presence whenever they talk and he gets brought up.
“A friend, Daryl. He got me the taxi because I was tired, I had been at the gym, I told you! Fuck, you never listen to me. And after that I even had to take Byron out, even when you promised-“. She gets cut off, again. It’s annoying really, and she sighs, loudly and exasperatedly. “Listen, if you are just going to shout like a fucking caveman be my guest, but I’m not listening to anymore of this bullshit”.
“(Y/N)!”. He shouts so loud from the phone he can even hear it. Then she hangs up and lets herself drop on the sofas. She looks tired; his smug and hopeful detective abilities tell him, shout him, it’s because this is not the first time you’ve had that conversation, at that level of heat or shouts. Has his name been brought up at any point? He feels really like a small kid, wishing for little and petty things like that towards her.
“Eavesdropping is not very nice, Grayson. Care to come in or are you going to make me stand up?”. She asks, sarcastic as ever and inviting him to sit in the place next to her, patting the velvet slowly of the furniture. “Just come in. And don’t say anything. Just hug me.”
           He complies.
           …
They have been flirting a bit more this time. (Y/N) is not sleeping there anymore, and from what Dick knows, they talk everyday for a couple of minutes, in an almost muttering tone, sometimes with too many silences and too many breaks on both behalves He wishes he could feel bad for her, she is suffering a bit after all, but every time they laugh together and she punches his arm, jokingly, he thinks he makes her forget about it.
           Until that happens.
It’s a shooting in one of the top-rated working areas of San Francisco, where a lot of offices are conglomerated together. It is a panic. The fact that they have to deal with human weapons, rather than with some random and new alien race, makes it easier to control, but nonetheless it’s hard to see the blood, get in the midst of the terrorists. Especially when they get into the Chronicle’s tower where (Y/N)’s boyfriend is working at that same morning. None of them had truly made bonds with the city or its inhabitants, but she has been raised there. It’s her home. Without thinking, not too much, she gets midst of the flames, with all the smoke and possibility of collapse when Daryl tells her that he is still inside, trapped with some colleagues. There’s no time to do anything other than follow her; Wally helps, but he is the only one save (Y/N) and Dick to enter the building, save the civilians left inside and… Fuck, her boyfriend who immediately recognizes her. It was not too difficult, to be honest, especially when they know each other so well and with half a mask broken (bullets, fire, desperate attempts to get there as fast as possible).
It’s a week after that and no one knows a thing about them. (Y/N) has completely disappeared from the tower, and save the occasional “I’m okay” texts he sends to Dick, just so that he can sleep, no one knows what’s going on… Until she appears in front of the doors of the Tower with him by her side. It sickens Dick to the pit of his stomach.
           …
They are mostly staying there. He goes back for Byron, for work, for meeting some friends, but he waltzes around the Tower like he is one of them, when he isn’t. When he voices his concerns, he is met with protests and mumbles of him being too grumpy, too attached to the rules. He is not! But it is supposed to be top secrecy, and there they have a civilian who is… Too touchy for his own like. For anyone’s, really. Dick is not comfortable at his own home and that (Y/N) starts to notice. They still spar, talk until late, but it weird to have Daryl always gazing directly at him: he is sure, he knows. But he never says a thing, and thus it is… Okay. Until it stops being and the red flags appear. The incredible rage within Dick Grayson wakens.
“You are just so controlling! All the time!”. She shouts. There’s no one else at that hour in the tower. It’s way too early, and his early-birds are already on patrol outside. “You don’t-can’t control me! Okay?! This was MY thing even before you knew about it! Nothing has ever happened to me, fuck, and if it were to happen-“
“You are a woman, (Y/N). Biology-“
“Oh my God. If you are going there Daryl Lane-“
“But it is true! It’s just-!”
“No, shut up or I’m going to punch you, I swear on everything!”
Things are silent after that, but there’s an obvious tension on the room until he decides to leave, in a rush. Dick hides in the shadows, at a corner, hoping he won’t see in time, but he is too blinded by rage. He turns around, hoping maybe she will come to him. But he doesn’t know (Y/N) at all. She won’t come, specially not on a subject like that. And as he expects, he gets alone on the elevator before disappearing from their sight. He is tempted to go by her side, but she needs space. And more than anything, he doesn’t want to get accused of being a stalker.
           …
Daryl stops coming. Fall passes, and winter comes in: thus the appropriate parties, alcohol, and inevitable encounters are to happen. Their final one is the night before Christmas Eve. They are celebrating, as usual, some white Christmas with a wave crime that has almost disappeared from California. They can actually take time for themselves, and (Y/N) and him are closer than ever; they talk until very late, then sometimes take it to one of their bedrooms, a midnight improvised snack, or sometimes marathons of stupid black and white movies (which she loves, adores. She is going to love her gift, he knows). Everyone knows they are crushing on each other hard; one would think that her boyfriend would be still an obstacle, but they are not talking anymore. She went to see him once, and that has been it since; after, she has just perfectly fitted into the Titans, like a second family. And of course, she has brought Byron with her… Who is the first that knows someone has entered the Tower.
“B.?” She asks, confused as the dog runs from the table where they are all clinking their glasses. Dick doesn’t notice, hasn’t been paying attention to security these days, and that might have been his fault. It wasn’t supposed to happen. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
The tone makes everyone turn around – and there he is, Daryl in the flesh, slightly drunk and freezing, it appears. He looks embarrassed, but confident at the same time. It’s strange. She gets up, in all her elegance, and grips Dick’s shoulder before going to him. She mutters, almost only to him: “Don’t come”. The rest will understand, but he knows she considers him the closest one. The only one who could actually come and intervene, if he wanted to. They are close friends, after all.
“I’ll be back in a sec. Stay here”. He says, after a couple of seconds, getting up and coming onto them, the closest room where they have entered to talk in private. The door is slightly opened.
What he sees shocks him. From his position, she is giving Dick her back, thus letting him see the tense and anxious lines of her shoulders and neck: almost scared, fearing the encounter. Her legs are in a battling position, even when he is not doing anything, just talking-
“I’m sorry, you have to believe it. I didn’t mean to-I would never-you know I’m not the type. I didn’t mean to shut you. Slap you.”
Out of everything, he did not expect that. If anything, he sounds honest, but his own blood is boiling and there’s nothing that can stop that for the moment. It is her business to deal with… But still, they had grown closer, she could have told him.
“I don’t know what the fuck you are doing here, but you should go. You have no right over me, over anyone, woman or man, to put your hand on them like that. You are a piece of trash, Daryl.”
           “I know, I-“
“No, you are scum, I-I don’t really know what you expected. That you would come here, sit with us for dinner and after-what? Go home, have sex and everything okay?”
           “(Y/N), I-“
“No, fuck off! I have been hiding so much for your sake, so that you wouldn’t feel like less! I feared your reaction about my other life a lot, Daryl. I felt s bad because I know how much you hated lies, how you felt about it, and I loved you. I loved you so much, but you are just a piece of shit, trying to put me in your small traditional box! I am not going to do your dishes, clothes or work! I am not your sweet little girl for you to care and patronize-“
“What, so you are his?! You are such a hypocrite, (Y/N).And the worst kind, a bitch. You are for his use alone or what? You never let yourself be pampered like that, treat like his own little princess-“
           “Who are you talking about?!”
“Your friend Nightwing! Fuck you, you have been having these little chats, secret meetings… Have you fucked him? Have you sucked his cock while I was here, waiting for you on bed and cheering you on?”
“You are piece of scum, Daryl! I have not been rejecting you these last months because of him. Yes, I do like him, but I would not go behind your back like you did! Fuck you!”
“You are such a-“. His arm moves. His hand gets higher. He knows he has to act quick, and thus opens quickly the door, shoving her behind him, directly going against him to push him brutally into the wall against his back. It cracks behind them, pictures hanging on that same wall falling to the floor. The commotion makes everyone move, to their room, worried to what might be happening. “Fuck!”
She gets in the middle, Dick already up and prepared to get into a fight at any moment, while the other is still confused on the ground. He can feel his own raged breaths: fury, instinct taking over rationality. He is destroyed on the floor but he still wants to annihilate him. How dare he, how would he-?
“Dick, Dick. Hey, look at me. Richard!”. He looks at her, smaller in frame, tugging at his chest in the opposite direction of the room. She is trying to separate them. “Just go, please, don’t do anything else. Shut up, please, go and-“
She seems to be close to crying, desperate in her voice and trying to get him out, as she is making him go through the door. Her eyes won’t even reach his, and he is now desperately trying to make contact, even as she shoves him out the door, with a whimper and finally closing the studio off. He is just as confused as the rest of them, but he won’t talk.
           …
“Can I come in?”. Dick looks surprised. Did he not hear her? She had been looming around her own room for some hours now, everyone in their respective rooms after the night had been fucked up like that. No one felt like partying or drinking anymore. Still, his door had been opened, explicitly for her. He nods, and she finally comes in, closing the door behind them. “Okay, I’m going to talk, and I really don’t expect you to understand but… Okay.”
           >> Daryl and I had a very complicated relationships for some years. His family is fucked up and he had substance abuse problems in the past. I’m not excusing him, Dick, don’t roll your eyes. I just want you to understand where he comes from, why he is the way he is. He is not a bad person. No one is… But he thinks like that. He has to be the very best man, the most masculine out of everyone and always the best. It is his problem, but I tried to make it mine and help him. It did not work and it only put me in a difficult position, you know: always trying to be less so that he could be more. That’s partly why I never shared my secret identity with him. And why Cali’s own Vigilante was born. I needed something like this for myself. I was drowning, otherwise… And then you appeared.
She laughs in pure incredulity; her hands gets buried in her own hair, as she brushes it off and goes to his bed, where he has been laying waiting for her. She sits down, her hand resting on his leg.
“Okay, “you” as in “The Titans” appeared. That saved my ass because… Well, California is enormous. I could definitively NOT cover it all, so you all appearing was a miracle, honestly… But you appeared, Dick. You, as in Nightwing, as in Richard Grayson and the rawest “you” possible.” She looks at the door, almost embarrassingly, laughing a bit to herself. “I had such a big crush a couple of years ago I almost didn’t believe that you were right in front of me. Or that we got on so well, apparently… I kinda wished I didn’t have to go back home a lot of times, and… That’s because I felt something for you. And that was dangerous, because I had a boyfriend but-but things didn’t click with Daryl the way they dd with you, D. Really, truly. It is such a big cliché, but you made me feel seen, heard. You made me feel special, and I got hooked onto the feeling but-but I’m not like that. And I still had a boyfriend. Fuck, hell, I thought I was only lusting for you, but then-then months came by and it was still the same. And then we talked night after night, we cuddled under blankets, we took care of each other and… And things started going bad at home. He knew I was not in love with him anymore, and who could blame him? And while I didn’t want to act on my feelings with you, he did. Physically.”
She sighs, like it’s taking a bit out of her. She frowns, looking at her own thigs as she gets both legs on the bed. Dick has the urge to embrace her.
“The second time you offered me a bed here I wanted to take it in so badly, Dick. I swear to God I didn’t want to back there. No one had ever hit me, and-“. She chokes. She is… Strangely embarrassed, panicked. She won’t look at him, making herself small in the bed, vulnerable. “I didn’t know what to do. I still loved him; not like before, but wanted to stay true to him, be loyal, and he hit me. He said sorry after, he had been too drunk, but I knew he wanted to. And I just didn’t know how I could stay there after that, but still I-he promised things would get better, and I believed him, Dick. And then they didn’t.”
She confesses she trusted things to get better because they normally did. She had been hit before, but she couldn’t tell anyone; she was alone, isolated from her family. And the Titans, they would mock her! Obviously not to her own face, but someone like her being slapped by her very normal and human boyfriend?! The laughing stock. She felt embarrassed by it, not being able to stop him, the red mark on her cheek, shameful and making her weak, less.
He felt enraged. Not at her, of course not: at Daryl for making her feel powerless like that, stupid and less of the incredible woman she was because she was being hit. No one should feel embarrassed by it, much less be silenced for it. Dick embraces her, piecing the rest together all by himself. Things had started to go well, but the taxi had made him feel insecure, and thus they had exploited at each other not much later, resulting in a second slap in a short period of time which made her put distance between them. Intelligent. But then he had come and-
“I’m so sorry. You shouldn’t have felt like that all by yourself… But I understand. It was your own struggle to deal with, and you didn’t want anyone else to know, but… There’s people here that love you, (Y/N). I love you, for starters.” He blurts it out naturally, taking both by surprise. He gets red, closing his eyes and trying to keep his cool. “I meant-What I mean is that I feel something strong, or rather strong for you. Since the start. Or something like that, fuck-I’m sorry, I didn’t want to come off so strong, but… But fuck yes, I-I do love you.”
She climbs him. Slowly, almost torturing him in the silence of the room, sheets rustling as he moves his back up to straighten it. He is nervous, maybe as much as she is.
They kiss. Lips trembling, fear still in he system, an intense desire to care for the other in his. It’s a long but caring kiss as he opens slightly his mouth and she enters his cavity, her tongue conquering space and his hands going for her hips, stabilizing them. He has been dreaming with that for at least three months.
“Be my girlfriend.” And she can’t help but nod, as she kisses him up again. And again. And again, until they both are a mess of juvenile panting and squirming under the sheets.
“Get properly into bed, I want to cuddle you.” She says, turning off the lights and getting closer to his face, climbing him up until her face can be buried in his neck. He kisses her forehead, heart beating fast but tranquil, at the same time. They have time, she loves him, and the only thing he wants now is to protect her between his arms.
And she couldn’t feel any more secure, as she gets into bed and closes her eyes near his neck, protected and cuddled up by his strong arms on her waist.

My Universe

Again, Damian’s heart had skipped a beat. He felt it stop for a second then start up again. Why did his chest hurt when he saw the fresh tears fall down her rosy cheeks? Was it because he knew that the fighting had upset her and he still continued to banter with her father? He shouldn’t make her feel like this. He never wanted to be the reason she was crying.
“Please, tell me that you guys also witnessed what I witnessed,” Dick pleaded looking at [Name] with wide eyes. His expression made it seem like he saw something phenomenal. And if he was being completely honest, it was extraordinary.
On the other hand, Damian never removed his green eyes from bright [e.color] ones. She was only staring at him and he was only staring at her. He knew she wanted to speak to him, he felt it inside. Her lips parted then closed shortly after. Her tears had dried up and there was a slim red ring around the outside of her irises.
Her [h.color] hair was long, really long and rested above her waist. Her skin glowed a radiant [s.color] making her eyes pop out even more. She looked at him with pleading eyes. Her lips no longer quivering because she knew he got the message she was trying to convey. “I’ll stop,” Damian said softly. He gave one last look at Jason and lowered his fist.
It was like a switch in him flipped. He was no longer angry. He wasn’t upset at Jason for suddenly barging in without notice. All he felt was a sense of calmness and it was because of [Name]. “I’ll stop fighting, for you,” He whispered the last part and gently placed his hand on top of her head. Damian knew she couldn’t her the sincerity in his voice or his genuine words, but he still spoke. He felt that she understood him.
“What is going on here?” Alfred walked into the kitchen with haste and his feet came to a complete stop. His worn out blue eyes widening for a fraction. “Master Todd, you’re finally back,” Alfred said it with a tone of surprise.
Jason nodded his head, “Hey, Alfred.”
“Is that all you have to say?” Alfred said with quickness and an offended look on his face. He hasn’t seen this rogue boy in two years and he greets as if two years haven’t passed. “You left your daughter here at Wayne Manor for two years and you greet me like I haven’t done you a favor. As if your family hasn’t done a favor for you.”
Damian and Dick stayed silent. Alfred has never been so forward and harsh before. Forward and sarcastic, yes. But this was a different phase. A mood that didn’t show often during this time. It was probably because Alfred was so caught up with taking care of [Name] that most of the time this old man was filled with joy.
It dawned on Jason on how much pressure he put on his family. He left for two years without a word to any of them. Then his eyes loomed over to Dick. He did keep in touch with Dick and he wondered why it was only him. "I'm sorry that I left her behind. With Aurora gone, I felt lost. How could I, me," Jason pointed at himself with disgust, "raise a baby all on my own?"
"You are never alone, Master Todd," Alfred's glare turned into a caring look. Then he brought his gaze to Damian and- "Oh my, don't tell me that this young girl is [Name]." Alfred gestured to the ‘young girl’ hiding behind Damian’s back.
Stepping up, Dick nervously chuckled and walked over to the little girl. He placed his hands on her shoulders startling her. He gave her a warm smile and then looked up from her [e.color] eyes. “This is definitely the [Name] that was two years old five minutes ago,” Dick confirmed Alfred’s suspicions.
“I swear, there is always something that happens with you boys together,” Alfred shook his head with a deflated sigh.
……
“Her vitals are normal for a five year old kid,” Tim concluded pouring more coffee into his red mug. Then his fingers skimmed the keyboard typing along it. His eyes focused on the screen and analyzing the readings presented to him. “But her blood is quite special. From what Bruce has in his database, her blood is much like Superman’s.”
“So she’s an alien?” Dick asked.
Jason scoffed and placed his rough hands on his hips, “Half alien, Dick.” He pressed his lips in a thin line. His eyes scanned the room and he decided to come clean. “Aurora is from a planet called Inklopiat. It’s not too far from Earth, but it takes about six months to travel there. Any questions so far?”
The room was silent before Dick broke the ice. “You left telling me that you were visiting Aurora’s parents. Not to a different planet.”
“Wait,” Tim cut in, “he told you where he was going and you didn’t bother to tell us?”
“Hey, it was a tough time for him and if I knew he was traveling to outer space, I would have totally informed you guys,” Dick defended himself. “Kory knows more about space than I do, I could have at least let her travel with you.” Dick looked over at Jason.
“I asked her earlier, but Inklopiatians and Tamaraneans aren’t friendlies. I learned that the hard way, you were there Dick. When Aurora and Kory first met.” Jason’s words jogged Dick’s memory.
Dick chuckled, “Oh, I forgot about that incident.”
Damian stepped in, “Back to the priorities, we need to find out why [Name] aged three years within seconds.” His green eyes stayed on Jason. He had to learn from the Inklopiatians for a year. Which means Jason got some information. “Did the Inklopiatians tell you anything about what could happen to [Name]?”
Jason nodded his head, “They strongly believe in soulmates. There’s a legend about a man named Asht’n who was a fierce warrior. He only knew how to kill, it made everyone across the galaxy fear him. He went on rampages and murdered anyone who got in his way. The story is so old no one knew why he killed. Then one day it all stopped because he met a fair maiden. Her name was unknown and so were her orgins. All they know is that Asht’n fell in love with her and finally put his sword down just for her. Asht’n tried to make contact with the fair maiden, but she always ignored him. Little did he know was that she was deaf.”
Jason paused and watched [Name] play with her stuffed lion with Alfred.
“When he found that out, Asht’n used his actions to show her how much he loved her. Of course, the fair maiden was also infatuated with the mysterious man. She accepted his gifts of love and when he confessed to her, the fair maiden cried. She cried because she could finally hear his voice for the first time. They lived happily together and raised a family. Some hundred years passed and Inklopiat was born. Keep in mind, all the children are born deaf until their soulmate realizes their love for them.”
“I was waiting for some other guy to pop in and take the maiden away from Asht’n. So the question is, their story ends happily?” Tim questioned as he was quite taken by the legend of Inklopiat.
“Yes, their story ends happily, Timbo. Fun fact, for you, Inklopiatians also enhance their age to match their soulmates. [Name] obviously knows who her soulmate is and is trying her best to catch up with them.” Jason carefully glanced over at Damian.
……
‘My granddaughter is very special, Jason,” Queen Nadia’n smiled as she placed green flowers on the kitchen table. She sprayed them with water and placed the sprayer on the table. A maid came by and picked it up then scurried away.  “Aurora’n and I always knew that [Name] would be special.”
Jason shook his head and took a sip of the drink that a maid offered him, “Why do you say that?” He set down on a ledge looking out to the stars Inklopiat had to offer. The twinkling reminding him of his girlfriend. His heart still ached for her touch and her voice.
Queen Nadia’n walked out to the porch and stood next to her daughter’s soulmate, “Because the Elders said so. They told us that when you and Jayd’n were out catching the Saloms out by the river.”
Jason chuckled, “I hated those Saloms, they were sneaky bastards.”
“Language, Jays’n,” Queen Nadia’n gently scolded then she took the cup from his hand. Her eyes changed colors repeating a pattern from brown to blue to green to hazel. “The Elders blessed you and Aurora’n with a special child. A child that could end wars and stop the biggest foes even the Justice League has faced.” She put the cup down on the ledge.
“You’re telling me that [Name] has the power to take down anyone she wants? Even Superman?” Jason wasn’t believing a word she said. “I don’t get it, [Name] is only half Inklopiatian and the other half is human. I have no power to my name.”
Queen Nadia’n shook her head, “Jays’n, let me show you something the Elders want you to see. A vision that shows [Name]’s true powers.”
……
Jason never felt so scared in his life before. Laying at his feet was Batman covered in wounds and blood. Next to him was Barbara and Timothy all in the same disturbing fashion Batman was in. Their costumes had various holes in them and Batman’s mask was torn off. He knelt down and took Bruce’s face into his hands. “Bruce, wake up,’ Jason pleaded and looked around his surroundings. Everything was destroyed. Gotham was no longer standing.
“Father, is that you?” Jason heard a trembling voice coming from behind him. Slowly, Jason placed Bruce’s head down and he stood up. He turned his body to the voice and saw [Name] all grown up. Her hair was down and blowing along with the wind. Her face covered in dirt, but her eyes remained unchanged. They had not stopped sparkling.
“[Name], what happened here?” Jason asked cautiously stepping over the bodies that littered at his feet. He noticed Wonder Woman with her lasso held weakly with bloody and broken fingers. He saw Superman groaning with rubble above his chest, his breathing shallow. Aquaman was surrounded by a ring of fire and he was also passed out. “Please, tell me you didn’t do this.” Jason whispered.
[Name] took a shaky breath in, “I had no choice, they were going to kill me.” She clenched her fists tightly and a tear streamed down her face. She was holding back. “Father, they thought I killed him.” She pointed down the hill and Jason stopped walking. Surrounded by a multitude of flowers was the one and only, Damian Wayne.
The young Wayne had blood leaking from his mouth and a lone stream went down his chin. His back resting against the mountain of rubble. His eyes closed shut with dark bags underneath. His hands clutching onto a dagger and the other held a rose. “They thought I killed my soulmate, but I was only trying to protect him.”
Jason ran over to Damian, not believing what he saw. Damian was strong, stronger than anyone. Jason put two fingers against Damian’s neck and found no pulse. Damian was indeed dead. He looked behind him and at the fallen Justice League. They were all either dead or on the verge of dying. “[Name],” Jason called out to his daughter from below the hill, “who were you protecting him from?”
[Name] sniffled and wiped her eyes with the sleeve of her shirt. Her entire body was trembling and Jason didn’t know if it was from fear or...the adrenaline pumping throughout her body. Her clothes, the only damage done to it was that there was blood and dirt on it. She seemed to be unharmed, but he knew that her heart was breaking inside. It was like he was watching himself when he saw Aurora flatline.
“Hey, Princess,” Jason called out to her gently. He carefully climbed up the mountain of rubble being wary not to disturb Damian’s resting place. His hands gripped the top of the hill and he pushed himself upward. Jason would have lost his footing if [Name] didn’t grip his forearm to keep his balance. She looked at him with red eyes due to her crying. “I know you meant no harm to them. Although I need you to tell me who killed Damian, it’s important.” Jason clarified with importance.
At the mention of his name, [Name] cried more. “We were investigating the League. Damian believed that his grandfather came back to life and I told him that it wasn’t wise to go without Bruce. He didn’t listen to me.”
“The League? You mean to say Ra’s al Ghul is alive?” Jason asked dumbstruck by her words.
“They sent us a calling card,” [Name] pointed down the hill where Damian rested. She didn’t dare lay her eyes upon him though. She was ashamed that with her limitless power, she couldn’t save her soulmate. “The dagger that he holds, it’s from Talia. Damian said so because of the carving.”
Jason’s vision was starting to get blurry. [Name] noticed this and she brought her father in for a tight hug. “You have to promise me something, Father.”
Jason wrapped his arms around his daughter, “What is it, Princess?”
She pulled away just enough to look into his gunmetal eyes. He wiped her tears away and held her chin up high. She smiled at him, “Promise me that whatever happens, you keep Damian away from me. This is what the future holds if we are together, Father.”
“But you two are meant for each other. Soulmates are-”
“There’s more to the legend of Asht’n and the Maiden. In that story lies the truth. Father, if you don’t find the truth before Damian confesses to me on my 17th birthday then you have to keep him away from me. If not, the Justice League will come after me and so will Ra’s al Ghul.” [Name] explained more to him. She would have told him more, but her grandmother was pulling him out of the vision. “Promise me?”
“H-how do I keep you two apart? You guys are practically inseparable, Damian won’t let go of you.” Jason gripped her shoulders. He felt like vomiting right now. Something was pulling at his chest.
[Name] outstretched her hand and the dagger from Damian’s hand levitated to her empty one. Her fingers wrapped around the hilt of the dagger and her eyes glared at the weapon. “I’m not sure,” She brought her bright [e.color] eyes to him, “but when the time comes I’m sure you’ll know what to do. You’re a smart guy.” Adult [Name] finished with a smile.
……
Finally, Jason woke up from his episode and took a deep breath as he was trying to make sense of his surroundings. Apparently, he was on the floor of the bat cave because standing above him was his brothers. Damian had his arms crossed over his chest and most likely said something along a smart remark prior to him waking up. Meanwhile Tim and Dick were genuinely confused as to why Jason had suddenly passed out.
Before he could tell them what happened, [Name] had came into his view with her beautiful eyes. He sat up and blinked once at her appearance. Promise me. Future [Name]’s voice echoed in his head and Jason subconsciously nodded his head which in turn made little [Name] smile. She jumped into his lap and wrapped her tiny arms around his neck. Jason was astounded that she hugged him first. Did she know who he was?
That doesn’t matter right now, Jason mentally scolded himself. He had to make a promise to her and he was going to find out the truth about the legend in Inklopiat or else he would have to deal with [Name] himself. Jason hugged his little girl back with the same amount of love she gave him and pressed a kiss at the top of her head, “I promise, Princess. I’ll find out the truth.”

Saving The World
Raven's POV:
"We lost 31% of the earth's molten core, there is nothing we can do." Batman explained to Diana and Clark.
"If I just make another flash point, we could reverse this." The flash pleads his case.
He looks over to me.
   "What?" He whispers.
"I have too." I mumble. I stand to my feet, but Damian grabs my hand.
   "What are you doing?"
"I have a plan." I say, just loud enough for the others to hear me.
"And what is it?" Constantine looks, as if thinking what I was about to say wouldn't work. He could at least give me a shot.
"Your going to have to trust me." I look at each and every one of them.
A voice in my head that used to say 'destroy the world' is now saying 'save it.'
One thing I have learned in the Teen Titans, is that no matter the sins of people, they are all worth saving.
Clark who saved me from... me, Starfire who is like a sister to me and who guided me for many years. Dick who taught me to fight and hold my ground. Damian who made me feel like anything was possible.
Father place a hand on my shoulder, bring my gaze back to the sky.
"She is alive, but her pulse is weak." I say, not looking away from the girl in my lap.
Just as he said that, Raven's eyes flew open.
Very well done Raven." Father noded to her.
"I didn't mean to." I say, trying to sit up.
My heart felt warm and tingly, and honestly I felt like I could curl up into him and sleep forever.
His father hesitated, but stepped away, and Damian started the car, and then sped off. I grabbed the handle above my head, making Damian turn to me.
   "Please slow down." I begged.
Damian turned to me, and when he saw that I wasn't kidding, he slowed to almost the speed limit. "Are you alright?"
"I am really light headed." I close my eyes, trying to focus on breathing.
"I am sorry." I tell him as he helps me out. "I really am."
"It was a joke, I swear. You are fine." He scoops me up into his arms and carries me away from the car.
"I'm sorry." I say as he lays me down on a bed.
"Please stop saying that. You are fine. I will clean it up, but you have to get better. To do that you have to stop worrying. " He paused and looked at me. "Please."
I smile at him, and reach for his face.
"I was speeding to get back here, and Raven became ill." I explained.
My father turned around to look at me. "Damian, you should not have sped. She probably is tired and easily acceptable to motion sickness."
"Father, I thought it best we got here as soon as possible, but I admit it was a mistake." I bowed my head.
"So is she the one you were talking about?" He looked at me.
I stayed quite, unsure of what he was talking about.
"When you said 'save them, save 'her' you meant Rachel Roth?" Father said, trying to piece together the puzzle.
"Father, now is not the time or place to be discussing this." I pick up the rag I was using to clean the car and put them in a garbage bag I was using.
"Damian." I whispered.
His eyes shot open and he scanned the room. He sat up so fast that I was almost knocked over in surprise. He turned his head back and fourth and soon his eyes landed on me with worry.
What is it that you are Hungary for?" He offered me his arm to take.
I took it and looked up at him. "Cereal."
"Cereal? It's almost midnight." He checked his watch and showed it to me.
"I just want cereal." I shrugged.
He sighed with a smile on his face. "Fine." He lead me up the stairs and to the kitchen area.
"Cute." He said, nodding at me and then he took a bite of his cereal.
"I don't think you eat strange, but I think it is funny to see you stuff your face." He smiles at me.
"Yes you do." I argue.
"I believe you son has a look that he gives when he has a plan that he knows you won't like." I explain.
"Oh, that look." Batman nods.
I turn to Damian with a triumphant look. "See, even your father knows of this look."
Damian turned back to me with a smile. "Fine you win." He put his hands up in surrender.
"We are going to tell them the events of the past few years and explain the treat, and we plan to have you there by our side.
"If you don't feel comfortable, I can sleep else where." He said, allowing me to walk in.
I stepped in and Damian followed. I sat on the bed and looked at him. "You can stay here." I said, wanting for him to stay here.
******
Next Day
There was a knock on the door. I opened my eyes only to be flooded with light. I buried my head under the covers, blocking out the morning. The person next to me stirred and went to the door, opening it just a crack.
"Morning Mast Damian." Alfred greeted behind the door. "You father is worried that Miss Roth has ran off this morning, but I have come to ask if you know where she might be."
"Morning."
"Morning." Damian grumbled into the sheets.
"I think we need to go downstairs." I say, trying to free myself from Damian's grasp.
I want to keep it that way." He growled into my ear.
This sent shivers down my spine. A smiled spread across my face and I leaned back into Damian's grasp. He was right. For the first time we have been able to be just us without the fear of the world ending or father trying to kill him.
I sighed and then broke his hands free.
When I stepped in closer I noticed Bruce, Clark and Lois all setting at the table. Damian walked over to the table and sat down.
Lois looked up and her eyes brightened when she saw me. She stood to her feet and practically ran to me. She embraced me and then I hear a chair crash to the ground and Clark got in the hug.
"I am so glad you are okay." Lois said into my ear. She held me so tight it was hard to breath.
"Raven, how are you?" Clark asked, not letting go of me or Lois.
"I am fine." I said, embracing them.
In the past two years I have grown close to Clark and Lois. Clark saved me from making a huge mistake and ending my life and Lois and Clark took care of me when I grew sick from my father's wrath.
They had become like a family to me. It was nice to be around them again.
Lois realised me and Clark and her stood back to look me over. They looked at me with concerned eyes, but I smiled.
"I am fine." I assured them.
Lois enveloped her hand in mind and led me back to the table. She made me sit in the seat that Clark was sitting in before, but he didn't seem to mind. He went and sat beside Bruce.
"You did it." Lois whispered in my ear when she sat down.
The past few days we have come they told us you where asleep?" Clark turned to me.
"I am better." I nod and take a bite of my pancake.
"Glade to hear." He nodded. "Has Bruce filled you in on the press conference?"
"He said that the Justice League will hold one and that they would like me there." I said after I swallowed my food.
"And do you feel up to it?" Lois asked me in a concerned tone.
"It should be fine to go." I answered her.
She smiled at me and grabbed my hand that was resting on the table and gave it a squeeze. I looked at her and she had nothing but love in her eyes. I looked to Clark and he was just the same.
"I don't think Bruce has told you yet, but the Teen Titans have decided to take a season off and most of them are going home to family." Lois said, making me turn back to look at her.
Clark and Lois were asking me to come stay with them for the while the Teen Titans were away.
"What?" I said, not sure I understood all of this.
"Come stay with us, Rachel." Clark said across the table.
"What do you say?" Lois said in a cheerful tone.
"I..." I didn't know what to say. I have never felt more welcome.
"Father, surely she would be better staying with us." Damian's gloomy tone made me turn to him. He was upset and glaring daggers at his father.
"If Rachel would like to go with the Kent's then she is the one to make that decision." Bruce said sternly. "But, she should stay here for a few more days while we track her vitals and such."
"So what do you say?" Lois asked again.
I looked at Clark and Lois and then at Damian. For the past two years the Kent's have held me together and given me love that no family has ever. I knew what I was going to choose, but I only wished Damian wouldn't hate me.
"Yes." I said, turning back to Lois. "When the press conference is over, I would like to come home with you and Clark."
Damian stood up and stomped out of the room. I winced at his foot steps but I knew what I wanted to do. Damian and I are just starting something, but I knew that I wanted to be with the Kent's
"When we go back to Metropolis, I would like to introduce you as my daughter." Clark spoke up.
"Your daughter?" I turned back and forth at Lois and Clark to see if this was real.
"You are family and if this past two years prove anything, it is that you are a Kent." Lois squeezed my hand again. "Even if you are not by blood, you are."
"Thank you guys." I smiled at the two of them.
"Rachel, would you mind if Clark, Lois and I have the room?" Bruce spoke up.
"And I couldn't be with you because if I let my father slip for even a second, he would have killed you."
"And though I will hate having you close by, I understand." He nodded.
"I love you." I said, meaning it with all my heart.
"And I love you." He smiled and pulled me in for a kiss.

Chapter 9
I did my math exam today and I feel like my life ended too. I have now the job to make Lyon fall in love with me alone without anything, that’s terrifying. Should I just stop? He is too good for me anyway. For now, I have to think of something else. The boys asked me to take a walk in the park this afternoon, I don’t know why, but fresh air will be good for my good for nothing, brain.
“So did pretty boy fall into your arms already?” Sting asked, when we were out of school.
“Umm… no.” I said in a sigh. “And I think I’ll just stop, I tried and nothing worked, I can’t do this.”
The guys looked at me with a sad awkward face. Rogue probably feels bad, but I think Sting is only trying to be a good friend for once, which he is not good at actually.
“That’s a bit sad… Ummm, but you should see other boys! If he didn’t see you like this, well, too bad for him! There’s other fish in the ocean! Rogue for example.”
I blushed at the mention of Rogue and felt weird all of a sudden at the idea of having my best friend as a boyfriend. Korimi No! Don’t think about it! Sting is just being stupid. I looked at Rogue to see his reaction and I think I never saw him glaring at his brother like this.
“I said nothing! Sting exclaimed, hiding behind me. “Oh look! That guy is cute!”
“Sting no!”
“I’ll take him then.”
He tried getting to the guy, but I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and placed him beside me again.
“You stay here, I don’t want to see you make a fool of yourself that guy is obviously with his girlfriend, stupid.”
“Maybe it’s his sister!” Sting said and we looked at the boy who just leaned in to kiss the girl in front of him. “Never mind then.”
“Told ya.” I said, laughing. “What are we doing in the park anyway, it’s not really your style to take a walk in the park Sting.”
“Fresh air is good, I thought it would do you good.” Rogue said, smiling at me. “You think too much you should just relax and spend time with friends.”
“You’re right, thank you Rogue.”
I got on my tiptoe and kissed him on the cheek. I think I saw a faint blush creeping on his cheek and when I turned around I saw Sting smirking, so I hit him, I feel better now.
“Hey! Why are you hitting me?!”
“Stop smirking.”
Sting crossed his arms and sulk, making me and Rogue laugh. We spent a while walking and at a moment Rogue suggested we take a pause and buy an ice cream. That boy knows how to make my day, ice cream is life.
“Rogue take this! I said, giving him money, but he refused.
“No, I am treating you and I don’t want to hear anything.”
“But!”
“No but.”
This time I was the one sulking. I hate when people buy me something, I feel bad every time. While the guys ordered, I looked for a bench not far from the pallor and waited. It’s been a while since the guys ordered. I hope there’s no problem because it's weirdly long. After what seems to be 10 minutes maybe more? The guys came back and Rogue handed me my cone.
“Sorry for the wait, I know you liked it dip in chocolate, but they didn’t have enough for a cone sadly.”
“It’s okay I feel already bad you bought it I will not say anything.” I laughed and was going to take it, then I saw something on my ice cream.
I see… He lied. On my ice cream we could read, writing in little candy topping, Prom with a question mark. I can’t believe he did that. All I thought to do was buried my face in my hands and let out a little cry of shyness. That is so cute honestly, he probably thought about it all week and trying to come out with something to ask me like people usually do, he didn’t have to!
“Oh my god, I can’t believe you did that.” I said and the boys laughed, especially Sting, I think he almost fell on the floor.
“Is that a yes or a no?” Rogue said, with a smirk.
“Yes it is, it always has been, you didn’t even have to do this.” I said, smiling. “It’s sweet of you, thank you.”
I took the ice cream and started eating it before it melted even more. Miam! It’s really good, I will have to come back here oh god.
“Good.” Rogue said, smiling.
“You should have looked at him Kori, it’s been two weeks ! He kept thinking nonstop about how to ask you without making a fool of himself, it was really funny.”
“Shut up Sting.”
“But seriously Rogue, you lie didn’t you? It’s not dip because you had to write this on it?
“Umm… yeah sorry.”
“It’s okay now I have an excuse to buy another one without looking too much like a pig.”
***
“I’m here!”
My sister and I froze when we heard Elleira’s voice. I looked at Juvia to see a terrified face. My sister thought our cousin wouldn’t be here until an hour, so she was going to start the last cake she had to do, she didn’t have time because of school.
“What should we do?! Juvia didn’t finish the cake!”
“I’ll say I could make a diversion, but making a cake it’s too long.” I said, with a sorry face. “It's fine, it’s not like you didn’t respect your words, you’re doing it right now that’s all, she has time to eat the other two while you do this one.”
My sister looked a bit more relaxed and I let go of my apron to go see my cousin. Elleira was putting her motorcycle mask in a safe place. Because my cousin is the type of crazy badass that rode a motorcycle, but what’s for sure I’ll never get on it, not if she is driving.
“Elleira!” I said, running to hug her before she had time to say anything.
“Kori Stop you’re choking me!”
“Sorry, but I missed you!”
“Well if you missed me try not to kill me first.” She said, rolling her eyes. “So where are my cakes?”
“You just got here and you are already asking for the cakes? Seriously?”
“Juvia promises me three cakes, that’s why I came!”
“Actually two of them are ready, but she is doing the third one right now, she was too busy this week.”
“Juvia! I said three cakes or I wasn’t coming!”
My cousin said, while running off to the kitchen. She didn’t even say hi... I sighed and joined them in the kitchen.
“Juvia knows! She thought she would have time before your arrival, she was doing it right now, you can eat the other ones before if you want one now!”
“Tch it’s okay you still respect your words, but since it’s a vanilla cake, I want a rainbow cake.”
“A rainbow cake?” My sister said, relieved, but confused.
“Yeah food coloring duh.”
“Ah! Okay no problem we have some!”
So we spent an hour making the last cake. I was scared it would end up in a disaster, but the result was really good. We were eating the chocolate cake, the first one being an oreo cake, but I don’t like oreos and it’s the only one Elleira didn’t want to share. While we ate the cake the doorbell rang and I got up to see my best friends outside.
“Sting? Rogue? What are you two doing here?”
“That’s Ellie’s motorcycle no?!”
“Umm… no?” I lied, if Elleira sees him he'll be dead.
“I was right, good!”
Sting pushed me out of the way while Rogue sighed at his brother's behaviour and followed him.  My cousin and my sister came to see who was at the door and the disgust in Elleira’s face was hilarious.
“Ellie! Darling I missed you!” He yelled and came to hug her which she responded with her knee right in the good place.
“Don’t touch me.”
“But…” Sting said, groaning and my cousin entered the kitchen once again.
“Sting gets out of here.”
“I want to see Ellie!”
“Ellie doesn’t want to see you at All!!! Get lost Blondie!” I heard my cousin yell in the kitchen.
“I know you love me!”
“Where’s the real babe at? Someone call Minerva!”
“If I call her would you love me?” Sting asked, hope feeling his eyes.
“I would prefer to die.”
“I’ll call Minerva, if she knows Elleira was here and we didn’t tell her, we are all dead.” Rogue said, calling our friend.
This day is going to be a disaster.
***
Yeah like I said, a disaster. When Minerva, and Yukino since she brought her too, arrived my cousin and her spent their time flirting and beating up Sting every time he was annoying which was all the fucking time. One time, Elleira was so tired of him that she actually squeezed his jewel until it hurt, poor Sting, he will never learn.
They only stayed the afternoon, we played Mario kart and what a better way than this to end a friendship. I don’t think Sting and Minerva will talk for a while. My parents arrived for supper, we ate, Elleira eating half of everything. We ate the rainbow cake and my mom was proud of us. Mom is a baker so if we had failed that cake, it would have been really bad. Before she quit us Elleira asked me if I wanted to play until dawn, I said yes. I know this game, but never dared to play.
“You really want to play this scary game?” My sister asked when our cousin explained what it was.
“Juvia, you chicken, it’s not scary at all.”
“It’s true Ju, I’ve seen people play it on youtube. It's not scary, more like stressful to watch, that’s what made it scary for me. I was stressing too much.”
“You also don’t have to stay.”
“No, Juvia will believe you and stay, it’s been a while since we saw you.”
“Like you want.”
Elleira played the game, I really liked watching her play, but I wouldn’t say the same for Juvia, she looked a bit scared sometime. After 2 hours, Elleira said she should go and we accompanied her to the door. We hugged her and she was gone. It was fun seeing her, but a disaster, I should make sure nobody comes next time.

What is your take on Barbara in your Young Justice story? As in what comics or shows inspired you? Also, how is she handling(i don't know another word) her feeling for Dick? From what I can take is that she still loves him; she wants him to be happy and will do things for him to accomplish that. Idk i don't think she has time to really "move on" even if she tried because she will always be there for him... along with the other bat-family
Thank you so much! Hmmm, I love Babs a lot but I’m trying to think of where I primarily draw her character from--probably a mix of her Oracle days, Birds of Prey, some Batgirl Year One, with a bit of fandom in general, Young Justice (ofc), and the Batman animated show I watched when I was younger. Anything that shows Barbara as competent, efficient, a badass but also clearly cares about her family and the people she works with. She’s such a great example of a character that can both act marvelously and unhesitatingly in a support role without making supporting others seem lesser in any way--because really how would any of the Batfamily in the 90s-early 2000s get anything done without her--while also being a hero/ main character in her own right (with Oracle and Birds of Prey).
For how she’s dealing with her feelings--I think what you said is fair: she loves him, she wants him to be happy and is glad that he seems to be with Kory, she does have trouble moving on completely because they always work together. It’s essentially Barbara’s a wonderful person about prioritizing her goals--her top goal is to keep her loved ones (and Gotham) safe through anyway she can help them. As long as she has that, she can be happy...even if she sometimes is too selfless in that she removes herself from (or allows) situations where she thinks she’s too biased even if she thinks the situation is ill-considered.....that’ll make sense a lot more after the next year arc, promise.
Bonus very short story under break because I feel like it explains it better than my ramble.
Here is a piece of dialogue I wrote from a short story in Barbara’s POV. It’s not finished so I won’t post all of it; but, it’s called “Prom” and takes place between Year 2 and Year 3 (so post Batgirl, pre-Kory’s arrival on Earth).
-----
Barbara Gordon is in love with Dick Grayson.
She doesn’t let it affect her that much.
There’s more important things to worry about.
Namely being Batgirl, Gotham’s newest vigilante of about a year and a really good one if she does say so herself. And with that comes other worries. Like containing Arkham breakouts. And patrolling Crime Alley. And tracking down leads on whatever new addition there is to Gotham’s ever expanding list of batshit insanity. And going through the next torture mislabled as a training exercise because “we can never be too prepared, right, Babs?”. Or, hey, speaking of which, trying to make sure neither she nor Dick die in this nightmare of a city that she adores so much.
And then, there’s the additional joy of keeping all of the above mentioned vigilante activities out of the attention of her father aka the Police Commissioner aka one of the most observant men in Gotham.
The point is Barbara doesn’t have time to be part of anyone’s unrequited teenage love story, even if it’s her own.
All of which normally works out pretty darn well except for one occasional fact.
Dick Grayson is an idiot.
Big blue eyes look up at her imploringly from across the lunch table and Babs momentarily contemplates stabbing him with her fork.
“I just thought it would be a good idea,” he explains before hurrying to add, “if you don’t already have someone you want to go with, I mean.”
“You’re asking me to prom,” she says incredulously. “Wait, you’re telling me you don’t have a date to prom?”
Dick hesitates. “Um, well, no, I don’t. Not exactly.”
Barbara blinks, narrows her eyes, and then mentally translates that through her built in Dick Grayson decodifier. The answer comes alarmingly quickly.
“In other words, people asked you and you turned them down. So now, you have to find a date if you want to go and not look like an asshole,” she concludes.
Dick blushes and she knows she’s right.
Not that there was ever really a question because, unlike her, Dick actually is popular. Insanely so considering, like her, he’s two years younger than most of their classmates and makes the absolute minimal effort to be part of any extracurricular activities besides sporadic decathlon appearances.
Then again, maybe it’s not that surprising when you factor back in the whole billionaire heir status plus the...well, okay, the unfair levels of attractiveness and grace Dick exudes as unconsciously as breathing.
Dick smiles sheepishly and Barbara swears she hears a girl two tables away actually sigh.
“I just thought it would be more fun to go with you,” Dick insists and Barbara’s traitorous little heart might have skipped if he didn’t immediately follow it with, “as friends, you know?”
Barbara continues to stare at him because dang it, she might have tripped into a bad teen movie but she still has her pride.
“If you’re just asking me because you think I don’t have a date--”
Dick’s eyes immediately widen. “No! Babs, that’s not it at all, I swear!” He sighs, checking the cafeteria before leaning in. “It’s just...you know how things can get kind of, ah, busy all of the sudden for us, right?”
Oh….
Barbara nods, feeling like an idiot. She should have known it would all come back to vigilante stuff.
Dick looks relieved. “I just don’t want to agree to go to prom with someone when I’ve got to ditch them last minute if something comes up.”
“Oh,” she says, mostly on autopilot. “And at least if we go together and something happens…”
“We won’t be letting anyone down.” Dick smiles before shrugging. “And, if nothing happens, then I still get to go to prom with one of my best friends. Win-win.”
Barbara forces herself to swallow. “Win-win.”
“So, what do you say?” Dick’s smile goes a little bit mischievous. “Barbara Gordon, will you go to prom with me?”
The sad thing is that when it comes down to it, she doesn’t have to think about it.
“Sure, Dick.”
Dick’s face lights up, endearing in all the ways it’s not infuriating. “Really?”
Barbara shrugs, pulling up a smile. “What can I say? You know I love dancing.”
-----
Since apparently this is her life now, Barbara gives in to overdramatic impulses and throws herself onto the couch before finding a thick enough pillow to scream into.
When she finally lets the pillow slide off her face, her dad’s staring at her from over a heavy stack of case files.
“Bad day at school?”
She smiles sardonically. “I got a date for prom.”
“....Oh.” He frowns and there’s something Babs always finds oddly touching about the utter panicked confusion the hardened police commissioner shows with anything approaching the emotions of teenage girls. He shoulders through. “I thought you weren’t going to prom.”
“I wasn’t,” she agrees. Frankly, she thinks she could go her entire life without seeing classmates she barely talks to swaying awkwardly in a cramped gymnasium.
Her dad’s frown deepens. “Who’s the guy?”
She sighs, closing her eyes, already knowing how this will go. “Dick Grayson.”
“Ah...well that’s--”
“He asked me as friends,” she finishes.
Silence greets her response and Barbara shuts her eyes a bit tighter.
If there’s one thing she absolutely hates about being in love with Dick Grayson, it’s the fact that everyone else in her life already knows. Everyone except Dick.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart.”
“It’s fine, Dad.”
“You want me to shoot him?”
She chokes on a laugh, finally opening her eyes. “You can’t. You’re a cop. The police frown on things like murder.”
He gives her a look, a smile creeping in under his moustache. “It’s Gotham, Barbara.”
She stands up, leaning over to kiss his cheek.
“Don’t.” She smiles. “Gotham still needs one honest cop left.”
“Drats.” He catches her hand, smile evening out as he meets her eyes. “If he doesn’t see what’s in front of him, honey, then he doesn’t deserve you.”
Barbara squeezes his hand in lieu of answering.
That’s the thing no one ever seems to get.
It isn’t that Dick doesn’t see her. In fact, she’s pretty sure Dick sees her better than anyone.
