It was nighttime. The mom had agreed to meet Damiar at the museum of all places — but mostly because she had been asked to come over. Maybe the kid needed answers. To what? She’d find out in a moment, and she didn’t know whether the vagueness was intended or not.
Last year’s Halloween was more eventful than she wanted it to be. In her mid-fifties, her memory was a bit fuzzy. What could possibly be asked of her? She had not thought much of it until she parked the car. Her stomach was in knots while she figured out why she had to go to the museum after work. Eliana walked into the building with her glasses still worn (just so she could see at night) after driving and didn’t know exactly who she came across.

Despite the glaring truth that was Marisol's undying devotion for her dear sister Ava, that didn't mean she reserved any less love for the rest of her siblings — she certainly never pegged herself the type to pick out favorite family members, though that certainly varied depending on the day and any slights levied against her by any one of them. But she was an oblivious and flighty spirit, so occasionally her attention could drift and fixate on one person at a time rather than delegating her time fairly, which is what motivated her to invite Damiar out for a fully-covered meal at the Ivy. It wasn't too often she could speak with her siblings without some kind of melodramatic interruption, so she had held this day close to her heart, all the way up until she set out the dishes and utensils they would need for their meals. She smoothed out her already ironed black skirt that wasn't mandatory when she was off the clock, however it felt wrong being in-house and not dressing the part. Her features lit up whenever she spotted her older brother, waving a hand around fanatically. "Dami! Here! I've got us all set up," she nodded toward their table, then hurried ahead so she could envelop him in a hug. "I missed you, bro-bro."

LEONIE WAS BORN IN THE NETHERLANDS ... with DUTCH being her native tongue. she grew up in rotterdam until the age of 5, moved to alaska ( where her mother is from ). and was raised in anchorage, of all places. the move was not exciting in any way, though she had to endure the change and learn the english language in the process. it wasn’t either, but she settled in a lot quicker than she could’ve ever imagined — well, not her but her parents. her father, a dutch man, was considered to be the daredevil of the family. the red-haired girl was taught to ride a bike and drive a car by the man with dark, long hair. a dad’s girl from the start, he was the one who took the role of being a dad seriously, & made a huge effort of having léonie know how to do the basics; such as learning how to change a tire, fix the plumbing in the house, or anything a typical person should know; not that her mom didn’t take on the role, though she would advise her constantly to be good in the world, and was a hard-working mother. to be honest, she was proud of her parents.
IN HER EARLY 20’s, SHE WAS PART OF STREET RACING GROUP. she was one of the best drivers ( thanks to her dad ) and would often win prizes in the form of cash. she didn’t keep her studies going as she was a college dropout, realizing that school wasn’t something she wanted to do. while taking part in somewhat illegal activity, years prior to turning 20, léonie met richard, whom she felt was the love of her life, but it was proven wrong in the years after. the couple went on to adopt/foster a kid by the name of kurt. despite being a teen, she considered him to be her own, and cyrek came along thereafter. though a troubled kid, the woman did everything she could to make it clear that he was a part of the family. whether he liked it or not. ava, too. thankfully, she wasn’t the only girl in the house now. adoption or foster kids, she made an effort to be their mom — one that they didn’t have before? obviously, there were obstacles along the way, but she pushed through. a stubborn woman, indeed !
before that, léonie would keep her job as a professional racecar driver a secret. besides richard knowing the fact. her profession was kept on the down low ... as well as her job on the side as a sleeper agent. thereafter, she’d notice that she’d turned out to be the daredevil of her family now, taking her father’s footsteps. what a coincidence. well, maybe not.

A WORKAHOLIC IN HER OWN TERMS, léonie had started to think she wasn’t a good mother. she worked long hours, was secretive about her job, & never had the chance to be vulnerable with the kids in the house... — up until kurt’s suicide took a toll on the family. receiving that phone call was the worst thing that would happen to her, the news made her fall into a workload, distracting her mind from the sudden loss of someone that she considered her own. how did she not notice the signs? did she do something wrong? léonie lived with guilt now. she’d result in keeping her feelings dug deep, away from any acknowledgment whatsoever ... she distanced herself from her family and changed within a few months after the death of a loved one.

what the youngsters, the kids, didn’t know was the hell that richard had put her through. every time he’d bad-mouth cyrek, she would come to his defense 99.9 % of the time. she’d come to spend heaps amount of money, her hard-earned money, to provide them with the best while the man was too busy complaining. that was beside the point. it didn’t matter anymore since she was the one who filed for divorce papers and had them delivered to his workplace. léonie fell out of love and was no longer in love with the man she married. good riddance, be gone.
A CLOSETED LESBIAN WHILE BEING MARRIED TO A “MAN”; it sounded too much like a cover of a gossip magazine, out of a headline on the news. realizing that she was 100% into women and had kept it a secret for many years, and no matter how much she condoned cheating, she ventured out to discover more of her sexuality. no one knew, but she fell in love and remarried a few years ago.
SHE CAME OUT VERY DISCREETLY BUT ENOUGH FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW. on her own terms, and surprisingly, her parents were accepting of her still. yet she was expecting to be disowned, even at the age of 44 ... nearing her fifties. right after filing for divorce. still very much living a private life at the winterwood estates of anchorage. whether she has a rocky relationship with the youngsters, léonie makes an effort to live the role of a mother.

there could not have been an easier decision for damiar to make. after concluding that being a vampire for halloween would be too basic for his highly individualistic tastes, he settled on a character from an anime that he has loved dearly for years, the port mafia's very own angry chihuahua, ryūnosuke akutagawa. it's a very fitting costume, and one he takes pride in. the ends of his hair dyed white, he sports black and red accessories as a nudge to akutagawa's special ability known as rashōmon. is he a little pissed that nikolai didn't go as dazai? absolutely.

EARLY BEGINNINGS
Annisa was born in Jakarta, Indonesia and put up for adoption soon after birth. They were adopted when they were an infant by Carolyn and Howard Adler and were brought back to be raised in the United States
When Annisa was adopted, Carolyn and Howard already had one child that they’d adopted, Kurt. He was older than Annisa and he fiercely looked after them from day one, always playing the role of the protective older brother
At the age of 3, Annisa took their very first dance class and they were instantly hooked. Their entire life revolved around ballet and they dreamed about one day becoming a prima ballerina. Although there was pressure to look a certain way in ballet, Nisa tried their hardest to not let it bother them
As the years went on, the Adlers took in several children: Ava, Marisol, Cyrek, and Damiar. All the children became life-long siblings and the fact that not one of them shares blood makes no difference to any of them. They're a family, through and through
From a very young age, Annisa had known that they were gay. However, being raised in a religious household, they were in denial for a while before they finally accepted themselves and came out to their family as gay when they were 17
Though the children’s mother had nothing but love for her children, to bit a of fault even, their father wasn’t as forthcoming. While their mother was warm and welcoming, their father was cold and distant and eventually, push came to shove and they split
When Cyrek was 16, he attempted suicide and though Nisa wasn’t there to witness it, they’d been scared to death of losing Cy and had clung to his side in the hospital
THE BREAKING POINT
The Adlers’ lives came to a screeching halt on a spring day in 2014. Annisa was picked up early from dance class by her distraught father and she quickly found out why--Kurt had committed suicide. Suddenly, Nisa's world was in pieces
In the aftermath of Kurt’s death, Annisa felt utterly lost and blamed themselves for their brother’s death, positive that there must have been some way they could’ve helped him. They fell into a deep depression and soon after developed anorexia. They quit dance and nearly failed out of high school before their parents placed them in a treatment center to get help for their eating disorder at the age of 17
Annisa was in inpatient treatment for over a year and even after getting out of the hospital, they suffered through a cycle of recovery and relapse for years. While Nisa was lost in their disorder, they became a stranger to their family. The person that had once been soft and sweet was now deceitful, manipulative, and angry. They lashed out at anyone who questioned them too closely. While stuck in their disorder, they lost their family’s trust and for good reason
After treatment, Annisa worked to earn their GED and then went on to get an Associate’s degree in business with the goal of someday owning and opening their own dance studio
WHAT COMES AFTER THE DARK
In 2022, Nisa finally succeeded in becoming a dance instructor specializing in ballet
Annisa has now been in successful recovery for almost two years
While Nisa had identified as a woman for their entire life, recovery has helped them to rediscover themselves and in 2021, they came out as genderfluid
Within the last few years, Nisa learned that Kurt had a daughter named Ju-mi and has since become very close with her niece, whom they babysit regularly
