ateez as college bfs during finals
it's my finals week and head hurty but crazy form good hnngjdnjgnjdf
hongjoong
will help you study but only if you bribe him a little
it's not that he wants to see you fail
he definitely does not want that
but at the same time
you would most likely do just fine studying on your own
he has a sneaking suspicion you just want to bother him
it's not until you bring out the "I'll do whatever you want for the next two weeks" that he's quick to agree
would he use this promise to his advantage? absolutely
hongjoong would help you study but then once you pass (you'd definitely pass with his help), he'd be quick to make you buy him food or pass him the blanket that is literal inches away from him
if you want to pass, you could also guilt trip him into helping you study by saying you'll just go to your TA
who's a man..
your same age...
hongjoong is real quick to whip out the flash cards after that
unless you give him a hard time, then he'll personally take you to the TA's room himself
7/10- would help you study but is all the work he would make you do after worth it?
debatable
seonghwa
absolute king
would drop everything to help you in the blink of an eye
he's got the studying playlists on youtube
anything you want to listen to, he's got it
lofi? yup. asmr? check. dark academia aesthetic? absolutely
color coded notes, flashcards, practice quizzes up and running
can seem a bit overwhelming at first but seonghwa gives me the vibes that he would just know you so well
and therefore he would know what type of studying or work environment you thrive in
and you're his baby, he wants to see you succeed :((
if you ever get frustrated or overwhelmed, seonghwa would 100% have your favorite drink and snack ready
some coffee to stay awake? whatever u need, some tea to relax? bet, he's got the honey and everything
your number 1 hype man frfr
10/10 need him in my life
yunho
honestly, also really good to have around during finals
strikes me as the type of bf to kind of sit with you and also silently work alongside you so you don't feel lonely
does that thing when you're writing a paper or smth and you look up to think of the word you want to use and the two of you make eye contact and he'll send you a wink and a big smile
little motivations yaknow
would also definitely use the pomodoro method
has a timer on his phone for every 45 minutes and when the time is up he'll gently shut your computer and grab your hands and just chat
would be the best person to bounce ideas of off
"yuyu, should I say this or this?"
and he would give genuine feedback
if you need help studying for an exam, yunho might not know all the answers but you can bet he would be right there with you watching videos of people working out the problems
gives you little high fives when you both get it
9/10 might get occasionally distracted by his beautiful blinding smiles but honestly a pretty solid study partner
yeosang
mans is just there to vibe and honestly same
i dont wanna say he has absolutely no clue what's going on
because he does listen to you and he does pay attention when you talk about your classes
but at the same time, he doesn't really give me the vibes he would be as great at studying as some of the others
more there for moral and emotional support than anything
might feel bad he can't be of more help so he tries his best to listen to your lectures if you're at home, but man, it sounds like a different language somebody save him
would definitely make sure you're eating and resting well though
"sweetheart I think it's time to take a break"
"yeosang I just need to finish a few more problems :("
"you can do it after you eat something, it'll be easier to finish with a clear head and a full tummy"
crying screaming throwing up
would otherwise leave you to your devices tbh
doesn't want to distract you but also doesn't want you to be completely alone in case you forget to take care of yourself
8/10 man is doing his absolute best and we love him for it
san
honestly this could go one of two ways
he could either be the most serious, hella studious mf you've ever met
or he could be the most unserious, menacing bitch you've ever met
it all depends on his mood
serious san is in the mf ZONE
he's got the glasses on, he has his notes out, comfy sweater and gray sweats ON
ready to give you a mom look every time you get distracted
at one point you'd probably try to play footsies with him and he just kinda stares at you over the top of his glasses with one eyebrow raised and you just slowly return your gaze to your work
that being said
glasses ON, sweats ON, absolute fucking menace
teasing you fs
maybe not even like in a sexual manner, just tickling you and cracking stupid jokes because he wants your attention
WILL kiss your neck and tell you "you're so smart baby, you're going to pass no matter what"
your will power needs to be better than the lords because LORD
what san wants, san gets that's all imma say
5/10 you don't know what you're gonna get and it's scary
mingi
im tired of the mingi is dumb allegations
mans is smart as hell, not only in math but also the amount of lyrics and songs he helps to produce??
studious mingi is one hell of a study partner
it might be a little bit of a learning curve at first, especially if you're the type of person to want to chat or bounce your ideas off of someone while you're working
mingi gives me the vibes that he would be dead serious and focused while working
so it might be a little intimidating at first
you look up to ask a question and he's sitting there, eyebrows furrowed and fingers flying across the keyboard
and you're like damn i don't want to disturb him so you swallow your question and move your eyes back to your work
but mingi is also very observant, so he definitely notices that
"what's up baby?"
"mmmm nothing" you mumble, trying to figure out this particular problem
he'll shut his laptop off and scoot closer to you
wordlessly helps you figure out whatever it is you're working on before giving you a small kiss to your forehead and moving on
8/10 he can be the stem major to my humanities major
wooyoung
let's be fr, not the best study partner you could ask for
love wooyoung with all my heart but mans gets distracted easy as hell
has probably tried the pomodoro method but it just doesn't work for him
sitting for longer periods of times just makes him antsy yk
i get the feeling he'd be the type of person to get one of those moving desks that goes up and down and then puts a treadmill or smth under it because he needs to be moving or else he'll get very distracted
do NOT take this man to a cafe to work, he will do everything but study
especially with the people watching
"babe look at that guy over there, his shoelace is untied"
"that girl's shirt tag is sticking out, should I say something"
"the barista spilled that woman's drink"
if you're okay with background noise, it probably wouldn't be too bad....
until he starts wanting attention and now he's playing footsies with YOU
"woo, babe, I really need to finish this, it's due tomorrow"
"so you don't love me is what you're saying"
and now two hours have passed and you only have half of an assignment done
will buy you food and/or coffee to make up for it
"sorry for distracting you, you don't need a degree, your ass is great"
3/10
jongho
scary
scary studying man
has everything organized to a T, do NOT touch his notes unless you're okay with dealing with the 3 days of silent treatment afterwards
im jk
maybe...
no but fr, jongho takes studying seriously
if you ask him for help, he would probably be the best bet besides seonghwa or yunho
but this shit is like boot camp, okay? so be prepared
no fooling around on jongho's watch
you want to pass, guess what baby, you're gonna PASS
does that thing where if you're not getting something, he might not explain it to you, just re-asks the question louder
"what's 3 + 4?"
"6"
*sighs* "WHAT'S 3 + 4?!"
or might just stare at you blankly when you try to joke around
mans acts like he's training future CIA members or something
once you do finish studying he's back to regularly scheduled bear bf but studying??
only for the strongest soldiers
6/10

What advice would you give for getting out of a rut/burn out
how i get out of a rut + burnout
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1) i love to get fresh air and natural light coming in. i feel as though sunlight and outside air signifies new beginnings, beauty, and peacefulness. so i would open up the windows, blinds, and the balcony doors (be careful if you have pets) and get my atmosphere light and bright.
2) in order for me to start feeling refreshed, i need to follow bringing in fresh air and sunlight with cleaning. give your space a nice clean and be thorough. take your time with it and listen to an indie/calm playlist that helps you relax while you clean. cleaning and organizing helps so much with your mood. like they always say, a cluttered space is a cluttered mind.
3) get the right amount of sleep. if you haven’t gotten any sleep lately, after you clean, treat yourself to a nice nap. don’t set an alarm and allow yourself to wake up naturally. this would also be the time you make your bedroom super dark (but keep everything else with natural sunlight, just close the door). if you’ve been doing nothing but sleep, take a nap anyway. cleaning is a lot of work and napping in a super clean place is divine. limit yourself to a quick 30 minute nap or so. the quicker the better because long naps tend to make us feel worse and groggy. every night, start making sure you are focusing on having a good quality rest, so don’t overstimulate your mind before bed— at least an hour before.
4) once rested, listen to upbeat music. get yourself ready to go. don’t listen to music that has negative or violent lyrics, but instead something that is either completely instrumental or that is associated with good vibes. just hang out for a little bit with yourself.
5) write down your goals + follow the pomodoro method for accomplishing them. so what are the things you’re struggling to get done/burned out from? write them down and then work on them for 50 minutes, then take a 10 min break and repeat. or you could work on them for 30 minutes, take a 5 min break, and repeat. this method works wonders if you are in a rut and can’t get things done because you cannot bring yourself to do them. dedicate a little bit of time, set a timer, and then “reward” yourself with a break time.
6) ask yourself what you would do if quitting wasn’t an option. if you can’t quit, no matter what, what would be the next steps you would take? asking myself this has saved me so many times.
7) if possible, dedicate a corner, a closet, a desk, or whatever space available just for rejuvenation. what helps you to reset? lighting incense, reading the Bible, praying, reading, etc.? whatever it is, make a comfy and cozy area with pillows and blankets, a bottle of water, some snacks, and some fuzzy socks or something and go to that space when you just need a reset. make that space to ONLY be used when you need to reset and recalibrate.
i hope i gave you some ideas or inspiration. you’ll get out of the rut, start back slowly if you must but starting is the first step.

Hear me out: Special eds teacher Hob
ADHD Hob being perfect for Dream because he’s understanding of Dream’s time blindness, propensity for hyperfocus, emotional dysregulation and rejection sensitivity.
ADHD Hob becoming a special education teacher, and just taking one solid look at Dream’s more neurodivergent-coded issues and going: ”you know what? I’m going to save this bastard with my unhinged love and Montessori pedagogy.”
Hob asking Matthew to help him remind Dream of things during the day; to maintain contact even when Dream is time-blind and keeps forgetting their dates because he is two weeks deep into a tentacled goat WIP and will stop for no one.
Hob pointing out the hypocrisy of Dream hammering on about sleep hygiene, before helping him implement some hard-line work/life balance rules to prevent burn-out. Hob sneaking a pomodoro timer into the Dreaming to force Dream to take regular breaks.
Lucienne is so relieved that she actually goes on a beach vacation / sex romp with Gault

Seeing as you have finished writing the script for your AU thingy, I wanna know, how?
Like, were you motivated the whole time? Or was it a on and off writing type thing?
i'm trying to write but I don't know if I have the motivation...
How did you keep the motivation if so?
Oh man. I have so much to say about writing and creativity that I could make an entire series of posts talking about the subject, but I'll try to keep things orderly and brief.
Disclaimer: I should let you know that I have never finished a writing project before recently finishing my TPiaG AU. Keep that in mind when reading the advice I offer— the tips I give have only been put into work in my own life over the course of the last couple of months, but they’ve proven very effective in my experience!
Tumblr media
Sofie Creativity Tips Episode 1, go!!!
Was I motivated the whole time I was writing TPiaG / How did I stay motivated?
Absolutely not. If I hadn’t provided myself a detailed chapter-by-chapter outline for TPiaG before starting the writing process, I would have given up thanks to a mix of writer’s block and absent motivation. Motivation is a fickle muse and prone to ditching me for months on end, so I’ve adapted by trying not to rely on it, but also by creating new motivation rather than clinging to past motivation. I create motivation for myself in two ways: removing friction when writing and being my own fandom.
Removing friction is pretty simple— I create very detailed chapter outlines that remove any fear of writer’s block, set up my devices in a way to make it easy to access my manuscripts and notes, download premade writing playlists that have Pomodoro session break timers built into them, and more. Anything that makes the writing process easier to get into and enjoy doing, I make sure to incorporate into my life.
Being my own fandom is less intuitive, but a thousand times more rewarding in terms of motivation. I make memes of my characters. I write self-indulgent snippets on the side. I make AUs of my own work. I make playlists and save audio clips that suit the characters. I draw comics exploring concepts that might not get into the manuscript itself but that I want to make content for regardless. Basically, I dive in deep into the story, characters, and world, and try to do so with the enthusiasm that I give other people’s projects.
(That part is extra fun, because if I have a headcanon, it automatically becomes canon to whatever AU or original project I’m working on. I have all the power in the world when working like this, and it’s very fun.)
What changed and made it so I finished my first ever written project?
This isn’t exactly what was asked, but because I have eschewed motivation as the main driving force in my writing process, I figured I’d give another insight into how TPiaG went against the pattern of half-started and swiftly abandoned projects that came before it and actually got finished. Late into October, I adopted a new method of producing first drafts. Previously, I would spend weeks polishing the same chapter and would only move on to the next chapter once the current one was perfect. My new method is the complete opposite. I’ve started calling it Writing BFF:
Write bad
Write fast
Write fun
First up, write bad. The point of this is not to waste your time writing prettily during your first draft. Don’t bother agonizing over how to reword that one sentence to be more elegant when it does the job well enough to get its point across. Don’t go off on a 30-minute research tangent in the middle of a writing session because you want to fact-check that one detail and make sure it’s perfectly accurate when you could just put a placeholder detail in brackets and CTRL+F search and plug in something accurate later on. Don’t write pretty, write bad. And be okay with it. You can’t edit an empty page, so fill the page with as much garbage as possible so that you can turn it into gold later on.
Next, write fast. This is only effective when paired with writing bad. Don’t pause, don’t hesitate, don’t deliberate. Write as much as you can and do it as fast as you can. This idea is best illustrated by Chris Fox’s book 5,000 Words Per Hour, where he talks about increasing your WPM (words per minute) and how it makes everything about your writing better. The person who creates a beautiful first draft once every three years is doing okay, but the person who cranks out a complete manuscript every three months learns leagues more about writing than the first person does by the end of three years. The second person has practiced outlining, drafting, editing, publishing, and more with every manuscript completed. The faster you write, the better you get, because practice makes perfect and quantity begets quality.
Finally, write fun. I write what I enjoy, and if I’m not enjoying it, I pivot the project so that I enjoy it again. I like writing deeply personal stories, so pretty much everything I write is heavily based on my life and experiences— TPiaG included. Grovyle’s portrayal is deeply influenced by my experience being an elder sibling who has been a bad example of self-talk, and cleaned up my act because my younger sister started echoing how I spoke to myself. Dusknoir’s portrayal is informed by my experiences with being the therapist / mom friend in different social circles as well as attending actual formal therapy. Twig is the character that my experiences have the greatest influence on in her portrayal, and I joke about her being a self-insert, but ultimately all of the characters are self-inserts to some extent. I also enjoy low-stakes and slow slice-of-life stories that are driven by character growth. If I ever stop having fun with a project, I inject more of myself and my preferences into my work to get it back into my favor.
TL;DR / Writing advice lightning round
Write as badly as possible as quickly as possible, and have fun as you do it. Momentum yields motivation and stagnancy yields doubt. Editing comes only after the first draft is complete. Be your own fandom and your project’s biggest fan. Give yourself direction and ward against writer’s block by making detailed chapter-by-chapter outlines. Make the writing process as easy and enjoyable as possible. Motivation is a lie and if you chase after it instead of making your own, you’ll be writing on hard mode for the rest of your life. Reject perfectionism, embrace flawesomeness.
If I didn’t answer your question right, let me know! I’ll do my best to correct it.

⏱︎ ⩇⩇:⩇⩇ How to Write Faster! ▶️
Productivity is something that I, as a writer, have not been able to achieve for years. If you are someone who has great plans but is always defeated by your own lazy brain, let's try:
01. Writing Sprints (+pomodoro writing)
Make use of 10/15/20 minute writing sprints with a word count goal. It doesn't matter if what you write is not entirely coherent! You'll have the time to fix it in between sessions and later when you edit.
If you aren't a fan of timers going off every ten minutes, try 25-5/ 45-15/50-10 pomodoro sessions.
02. Use Music
Slap your headphones on with your favourite music.
Or even better, create a playlist that represents your story's vibe and keep it on replay.
03. Take Notes + Create an Outline
Gather notes and ideas about what you want to write beforehand to wrap your mind around the content.
Create a detailed outline of your chapter. If you need external reference, open those links before your start to avoid digging for resources in the middle of your writing session.
03. Set Specific Deadlines
Set deadlines with regular intervals. For me, I try to keep up a regular posting schedule on Wattpad so that I don't disappoint my audience (albeit small, very small)
Rather than just saying, "I'll really finish my book this year," have a breakdown of mini-goals that'll take you to the stars, step by step.
04. Enroll in a writing class/critique group
It's hard to keep yourself accountable, so this is a great way to get some external motivation.
If you need to show your writing to others, you are more likely to work harder to achieve a level of quantity and quality! They are a great source of learning nd feedback, too.
05. Remove distractions
The environment in which you write is important. Get your annoying housework done, make coffee, get the snacks you know you're going to start craving.
Keep your butt stuck to your chair as you write. If you're someone who likes the quiet, get some noise cancelling.
06. No Editing!
This is a popular one! Don't stop after every two sentences to see if your story is flowing the right way.
Save your edits for your future self.
07. Find your best time
Try to write as regularly as possible. Experiment with different times (morning? lunchtime? after dinner? before you go to bed? 3AM? - okay maybe not this one) to see which window offers the best level of concentration.
Also, look for the best place to write.
08. Play typing games (+ignore typos)
If you feel that your fingers are physically failing you, try improving the accuracy and speed of your fingers by practicising your typing games. Especially if you are someone who write in more than two langauges, improve the speed for the language you mightn't be as strong at.
Also, ignore spellchecks when you are pushing out the first draft. You can always come back to them later.

how to romanticize college and other helpful tips
hey guys!!!
this is actually an assignment for my social media class i am taking this summer, but i thought it would be a good idea to share how to romanticize college and some other college tips to go with it.
first...dorm room ideas
i recomend making a shared pinterest board between you and your roomates (if you chose to live with others) before you guys start buying your room decor.
you need to start the romanticization of your college experience before you even sit down in a classroom and start taking notes. make your dorm room a space you enjoy. so decorate it exactly how you want to and make the space your own. don’t be afraid to have your interests as a part of your room decor. your part of the room is a reflection of you.
Tumblr media
here’s some inspo for you guys
Tumblr media
i really like this one lowkey
now for fashion
if you haven’t found your personal style yet (me my freshman year of college) or you have a pretty set sense of style already, you need to be aware of what the weather is like where you are going to school. i go to school in northern indiana and had to learn (as a socal girlie) that sometimes you have to give up being fashionable when it comes to crazy weather conditions like extreme heat or snow (in my case). even when you have to sacrifice for the weather you should always try to look your best in your own style while still being comfortable in your own skin. i know the sweatpants are calling your name bestie....they do that to me too....of course they are amazing to wear to stay comfy, however, they shouldn’t be an all the time thing when it comes to outfits.
TRUST ME!!!
when you look your best you’ll feel your best and when you feel your best you’ll do your best. save the comfy clothes for long nights studying in the library. i’ll link some pictures to give you guys some ideas
Tumblr media
i really like the earth tones and levi’s rn
Tumblr media
also crop tops and baggy jeans are really cute
Tumblr media
i have way more outfit ideas on my pinterest board that goes with this post
now onto school bags!!!!
this last school year i had a tendency of carrying both a backpack and a tote bag. i would keep essentials like my wallet, keys, water bottle, the book i was reading at the time, and my makeup bag in my tote bag and leave all my school stuff in my backpack. for this coming school year i found something super awesome it’s the green wellness tote by typo. this thing is GIANT and can carry everything i would carry in both my tote bag and backpack while still keeping everything organized. it has huge front pockets and a removable pouch on the inside of the bag so i can hold everything.
i mean EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!
i’ll drop the link in the link section of this post.
but you can’t forget to personalize your bag. i use pins, pocket bac holders from bath and body works, and keychains to personalize my bag and put my own unique twist. trust me when i say having hand sanitizer on hand is extremely important so make sure you’re carrying yours at all times. i personally like the bath and body works hand sanitizers and the pocket bac holders for them are super cute. they actually just put their fall and halloween stuff out and i’m a fiend for that kind of stuff.
now for some study tips
first things first you are going to college to get your degree so studying is important!! i feel like the best way to study is to make it fun for yourself. have your study spot, have a couple good playlists, noise canceling headphones, a study timer app, and get to it. i’ve found for me using apps like notion (you get the unlimited version of notion free if you use a school email) to take quick notes in class and then physically writing them out and make them as aesthetically pleasing as possible. writing pretty notes makes you want to look at them more and actually study from them.
a study timer is extremely important!!! especially if you keep a study planner/journal like i do. it spaces out your study time and holds you responsible for your studying. i use the pomodoro method and am an active user of the forest app. if you guys want to be friends on forest i’ll put my friend code in the link section of this post. it’s honestly such a helpful tool for holding yourself accountable. if you don’t want to purchase an app there are a ton of free versions of the app out there that work just as well as forest.

tips from a 4.0 student
pay attention in class and attend as many classes as u can!!! i know it’s tempting to skip class, especially when the prof just reads from the textbook and posts slides, but hearing someone explain the material and add extra examples and insight is more engaging than just reading it.
active memory recall is your best friend!!! my favourite method of studying is to do daily flash card review before the test, and the night before the test, I do the blank sheet method: get a blank sheet of paper, write down the chapter name in the centre, and then write down every single thing you can think of related to the topic. This usually jogs my memory enough to write more detailed information without having to flip back to my notes. and I always go back through my study guide to see if I missed anything!
if you say things like “many people believe…” or “this is a common misconception” in an essay, you still have to cite :,) this was my biggest mistake on my first paper; this isn’t high school, and we can no longer make shit up
speaking of citing, I know how hard it can be to find sources that support your assertion, especially in massive databases. some tips for narrowing it down are to a) look at the date published, b) look at the author’s background, c) check if it’s peer-reviewed, d) check if the author cites shady or super old research, and even themselves, repeatedly in the article. not all academic articles are equal! also, sort by relevancy; is this study specific, relevant, and easy to use to support your argument, and is it a reliable source? if not, then toss it!
read the textbook, but you don’t have to pay attention to everything. I generally skim the definitions in the margins and go over major topic headings and important points left out by the prof. after that, I strongly recommend mentally and physically summarizing the chapter!
each time you revise your notes, write less and less, until your notes look something like a bullet list of key words and topics. when it’s time for an exam, look over this list and if you can’t explain every concept on the list, take note of what you don’t remember and work on those things. don’t bother prioritizing things you already know or that are obvious; this is a huge time waster!
i stay at the library after school to study because the structured, non-stimulating, and quiet environment helps me focus and get shit done. on that note, the app Avoca-do is my fav for pomodoro timers. you get to grow a super cute fruit every time you study, and it’s so rewarding to gain coins and save up for the next fruit.

I’m not sure if you are attending Uni or collage but how do you manage to make time for school and work and your extra activities?
I’m struggling to keep myself on track and procrastination is a big issue for me.
Any tips you can give me?
I’m not currently but I can definitely give you my tips. The first being organization and prevention.
Firstly, look at all of your bad habits and knock them off one by one. Like, no more throwing clothing on the floor after you shower. Don’t leave toothpaste in the sink etc. Replace these with habits that take under a minute to perform. This is going to open a large time slot because you’re now spending less time cleaning and wondering where things are than before.
Second, make life easier. Don’t over complicate things. Smoothie cubes in a blender is still a smoothie and if you spend 10 minutes a week making them, you’ll spend under 5 minutes making your morning smoothie. Pre chopping majority of your veggies once a week in an hour saves you 20 minutes of cooking time every meal.
Finding your resources and cheat sheets and keeping them in an organized document is better than spending an hour looking every time something comes up. These things are extremely helpful. Once I’m finished with the notion it’ll include an area full of resources that you can easily customize to your needs but for now go to Google docs and make a document. That document needs to include a few things, including Essay guidelines, writing essay cheat sheets, vocabulary resources, etc. have it all there with links so that you now DONT have to spend time looking you just find the section and click the link and that’s it.
I also highly recommend putting the following things in your calendar ahead of time:
Exam dates
Essay due dates
Birthdays
Trips
Pretty much anything of importance.
The next is to stay two steps ahead whenever you can. If you struggle with procrastination do yourself a big ass favor and make a HUGE cheat sheet. Sit down one day with a pomodoro timer, Pre made snacks, dinner already planned and a big bottle of water and start with the hardest class first. You’re going to go through as much of the lecture notes, study guides etc as you CAN! I mean really just take the L and do it. I recommend having a notepad to write down any areas you notice you’re struggling with particularly. Highlight, underline etc. Create your vocabulary decks, and find some damn resources. Practice problems etc. Give the class it’s own document full of this shit and then print the cheat sheet out. Now you’re a step ahead.
You will spend less time FEARING the future. Because now you know what to expect in upcoming coursework, where the class is headed and you have the resources to look into it.
Start treating your schoolwork like a shift every week. Every week you have a minimum shift (2-3 hours maybe idk) that you have to “work” on it. Pomodoro timers are your bestie. Eliminate distractions and just crack down. If you sat down and busted your ass you’re ahead and don’t have as much trouble.
Systems and routines are your best friend, just find something that works for you. Maybe you need to include 10 minutes of studying or a hobby into your morning or night routine. Maybe you add in a 10 minute workout every morning.
The more you take the extra steps out of your day to day tasks, the easier it will be !
I believe in you!! I hope it helps <3

My (ADHD) focus/organization strats
Here's some stuff that I've found works, and is working for me this semester! I want to go back and make cute graphics for this but. We'll see.
Doing a reading: Going for less visual clutter (tip: throw everything in a box, a pile behind you, or tucked behind your computer so you can't see it). Just need:
Computer to keep pomodoro timers and use with...
...Overear headphones to (1) block out distractions and (2) give me enough stimulus to stay present. My fav is white noise + the lofi study stream (nothing else fits my brain's requirements of no voices, round not sharp sounds, minor or no fading/switching side-to-side)
Critically, mini notepad for distracting thoughts. Anything that's not the reading (cool websites, chores, people to text, games to try...), write it down, deal with it when you're done. By which point it will probably not feel as important lol
A notebook if the reading is digital, or the reading + stickynotes if it's physical (bc I take notes like this but without the rewriting part usually)
Taking notes: Going for faster & easier writing, reviewing, & remembering
Color code classes and use that color in my headings, boxes (if we watch a video, i'll box my bullets on the video so I can differentiate from the lecture content), and...
...Pictures/diagrams, esp during lecture for Speed. Easier to look at and easier to remember than words.
Color code annotations (underlines/highlights in my notes, or the sticky note colors). I use big point, subpoint, new term / names / etc stuff I'll probably be tested on, and my thoughts/stuff i like
Annotate everything. Add your emotions, reactions, connections, examples, questions, ideas. I give these their own color. They go good in margins. Easier review, better remembering.
Surviving lecture: Thankfully my professors are very engaging this semester but I still use some strats
Fidgets omg. I got over myself and started bringing a fidget spinner and popit to class and it saves my life
Chop up video lectures, this is Prof. Mary Latta's idea she gives us 2-3 shorter video lectures instead of 1 long one. Pomodoro it.
Get involved with people. This is hard and took me years but it's awesome. Complement people and ask questions (stickers they have? their outfit, hair, nails, tattoos? work? major? interest in the class?), because you can (1) get friends/study buddies/people to sit next to, and (2) break the ice to asking for help and getting different perspectives. Hang out a little after/before class, ask for their reactions, examples, ideas. Gush your excitement or confess your confusion to the prof, or overhear someone doing that and jump in if you relate. None of us know 100% what's going on and it feels great to fill the gaps (or validate asking the prof for clarification!)
And important addition, when you get the pomodoro breaks (and before you start), ACTUALLY TAKE A BREAK. Do you need a shower/snack/water. You probably need to stretch. You might even need to move locations or get a different chair or move the light just to shake things up.

what do you do when you get stuck writing? (from this ask game) Rubber Ducky Sometimes I just complain and talk about whatever the issue is and it works itself out while I'm talking. I think that's the rubber ducky method, which is why I've got a bazillion little plushies around so I can snag one and talk to it when I don't want to bother people. Switch WIP's. Once upon a time I tried to complete fanfics before starting a new one, but that was fine back when I wrote one fic for a fandom and then peaced out. Now I write a lot and want to write more so I juggle them around when i get stuck or realize I need to do a lot more research (cough the Johnny/Tommy fic cough) Sometimes by the time I recrack open the fic it's a lot easier. But it helps if I left myself notes. Skipping around using brackets So there's this idea that you should use the things you put off using, eat the things you want to eat and stop saving things for special moments. Which I suck at. I say this with a bright pink jackolantern on my desk full of treats I've squirreled away that I'm saving for a moment to try them or as a notebook hoarder.
But I've gotten better about this with writing. If there's a scene I really want to write I'll put brackets for whatever I need to come back and do so that I don't forget it, though sometimes I do this when I'm super tired and don't want to forget my ideas [Johnny and Daniel drive to Jersey and Johnny learns what a pain in the ass driving in winter is and Daniel is full of himself about it but also forgets he's not used to driving in a city/let alone on ice anymore and they safely crash into a snow drift] I dunno, something like that and then skip to whatever happened next that I wanted to write. It kind of helps and it seems like it wouldn't be easier to go back and fill in those gaps, but sometimes it is. And sometimes when I think there aren't any it's a pain because I thought it was done and it wasn't 😂 Do something else [shower] 🚿
Sometimes you gotta do something else physically and let your brain wander. I cross-stitch and embroider sometimes and I'll do this repetitive thing that requires me to physically be doing something and sometimes it'll jog something in the fic I got stuck with. Another good one is generally taking a walk but I'm like so bad at that, I'm not good with just wandering around without purpose 😅 I want to go somewhere and look at something or have someone to talk to so it doesn't quite work for me, but doing the dishes or cleaning or cooking or my tried and true method, taking a shower generally does it. I shower probably way too much that it's now like part of my daily routine like having a cup of coffee in the morning, taking a shower before bed lets me relax and also figure out whatever was stuck. Go go go pomodoro! 🍅 Sometimes people work really well under pressure and I...oh sometimes I work really well under pressure. 😂💀 So a pomodoro is a little tomato kitchen timer, and essentially you time yourself. You can pick the length and you just focus completely on that one task until your time is up. Like here: https://pomofocus.io/ is a timer that focus's on this task. It generally works better if you have someone else doing it with you. So a writer whose interview I watched last year said that every morning she and her friend set their computers down on their kitchen tables, call one another and sync their timers and write. And I find when I do this, the sort of stressors of that timer makes me skip all the stuff I generally worry about. Spelling, grammar, things I'd normally puzzle over that slow down my writing and I just go go go. It also stops me from like diving down rabbit holes for research which I do...frequently. 😂 Sometimes it's also called sprinting. Thank you for the ask! 💖

I have a long term belief I have inattentive Attention Deficit Disorder, I’m currently on the wait list that’s about 3 years long for a full diagnosis.
I have real trouble holding my concentration and lately it’s been getting a whole lot worse, especially with work.
Weirdly enough, I’ve found that lo-fi beats have really helped me to concentrate, that an a pomodoro timer have probably saved my job.
I found this one today that I wanted to share, as it’s quite brilliant…a continuous Lord of the Rings lo-fi chill out playlist!
With recognisable tunes and the occasional classic quote.
Check it out.

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you! get to know your mutuals and followers 💗
Am I finally over the weird depression hump that was causing me not to answer comments or asks? I think so. Am I asking your forgiveness for letting this ask sit so long? I know so.
Getting through a busy period and being able to breathe again.
Realizing I still have peppermint bark Ghiridelli squares in my fridge and they're still good!
My pomodoro timer. It's saving my soul.
GORDY.
Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.

✏️ Do you write every day? 🖊 Post a snippet from a current WIP. ⏰ Do you spend more time reading fic, writing fic, or do you do both equally?
✏️ Do you write every day? I try really hard to. I don't have word goals, but I try to write for at least 30 minutes a day.
⏰Do you spend more time reading fic, writing fic, or do you do both equally? It probably depends on the day but to try and keep myself on track with writing and let me keep on top of things in the tags/fandoms I like to read for I've been using a pomodoro timer to go in between the two lately.
🖊 Post a snippet from a current WIP. Beyond the readmore is a snippet from the first whumptober one (prompt: Blackmail) I'm working on, as of yet untitled. But it's a season three AU that starts post-tsunami but before Buck comes to the decision to sue.
Buck is going to say more and ask Chris about some of the things on his poster, but his phone buzzes in his pocket grabbing his attention. He pulls it out, frowning when he sees that the incoming text is from an unknown number.
He swipes the message open. It’s a link that, when he clicks on it, brings him to a news story from Houston.
Former Houston Firefighter Awarded $5.6 Million in Employment Discrimination Lawsuit
Buck is scanning the article when his phone buzzes again, this time for longer. The unknown number is calling. He glances at Chris. “Sorry bud, I’ve got to answer this. I’ll be right back.” He steps out into the hallway, accepting the call. “Hello?”
“Buckley!”  The caller greets with more enthusiasm than Buck is expecting. He recognizes the voice fairly quickly as he speaks. “Did you get my message?”
“Mackey.” Buck rolls his eyes as he walks down the hall. He’s never been able to stand still while he’s on the phone.
“Hell of an article, isn’t it? A firefighter in almost exactly your situation--had an injury, rehabbed the injury, wasn’t let back on the job--did what I told you you should do and got more than five million dollars. And his injury didn’t even occur on the job! Not to mention that Houston is small potatoes compared to LA. I’m telling you, the payout you are sitting on is massive.  But we have to get moving and file the suit.”
“And I’m telling you, I’m not interested.” Buck turns into the living room. “How did you even get my phone number?”
“Lawyers work with private investigators, Buckley. And while you’ve tightened up your internet presence in the past couple of years, it’s still not all that hard to track things down.”
Buck feels slimy even talking to this guy. And he doesn’t like knowing that he’s been digging into his life, even if it is just to contact him. He’s about to reiterate that he’s not interested in anything Mackey has to offer and hang up when the lawyer starts to speak again.
“Look I get that you’re reluctant. You had a good thing going, firefighting is a brotherhood, yada yada yada. But you’re one of this city’s finest. A hero. You saved people during the tsunami and you weren’t even working, and you’re gonna let some pencil-neck downtown keep you from saving lives? You deserve better, Buckley. And this city owes you. If you work with me, we can give them the wake-up call they need to take you seriously.”
“The answer is no. I don’t care if it’ll take a little longer. This isn’t how I want to get this fixed.”
“Time?” Mackey asks incredulously. “Who cares about time? I’m talking about a multi-million dollar payout. You’d be set for life and I’d--,” He cuts himself off. “This isn’t just about you,  kid.”
“I don’t care.” Buck repeats. “I’m not interested in money. I’m not interested in suing. I’m not interested in anything you have to offer. Don’t call me again.”
He hangs up before Mackey can say anything else and, just for good measure, blocks the number. He sighs, feeling tired. He hadn’t thought much about the lawyer after leaving the fire drill that morning, but apparently Mackey had been thinking about him. Buck will give him points for enthusiasm, but he loses just about all of that credit for his lack of listening skills and general sleaziness. Hopefully, this conversation will be the end of it.
