tips from a 4.0 student
pay attention in class and attend as many classes as u can!!! i know it’s tempting to skip class, especially when the prof just reads from the textbook and posts slides, but hearing someone explain the material and add extra examples and insight is more engaging than just reading it.
active memory recall is your best friend!!! my favourite method of studying is to do daily flash card review before the test, and the night before the test, I do the blank sheet method: get a blank sheet of paper, write down the chapter name in the centre, and then write down every single thing you can think of related to the topic. This usually jogs my memory enough to write more detailed information without having to flip back to my notes. and I always go back through my study guide to see if I missed anything!
if you say things like “many people believe” or “this is a common misconception” in an essay, you still have to cite :,) this was my biggest mistake on my first paper; this isn’t high school, and we can no longer make shit up
speaking of citing, I know how hard it can be to find sources that support your assertion, especially in massive databases. some tips for narrowing it down are to a) look at the date published, b) look at the author’s background, c) check if it’s peer-reviewed, d) check if the author cites shady or super old research, and even themselves, repeatedly in the article. not all academic articles are equal! also, sort by relevancy; is this study specific, relevant, and easy to use to support your argument, and is it a reliable source? if not, then toss it!
read the textbook, but you don’t have to pay attention to everything. I generally skim the definitions in the margins and go over major topic headings and important points left out by the prof. after that, I strongly recommend mentally and physically summarizing the chapter!
each time you revise your notes, write less and less, until your notes look something like a bullet list of key words and topics. when it’s time for an exam, look over this list and if you can’t explain every concept on the list, take note of what you don’t remember and work on those things. don’t bother prioritizing things you already know or that are obvious; this is a huge time waster!
i stay at the library after school to study because the structured, non-stimulating, and quiet environment helps me focus and get shit done. on that note, the app Avoca-do is my fav for pomodoro timers. you get to grow a super cute fruit every time you study, and it’s so rewarding to gain coins and save up for the next fruit.

Hello! In today's episode I'm trying very hard (but not that much) to fix all the stuff I left behind on this last month. Probably the hardest part is to find a way to get everything organized.
Hope your week started nice there. Would love to hear how's you day going or went like.
