currently writing a character that is pretty much all the a's in lgbtqia (agender, aromantic, asexual) so if you are in any of those groups please give tips for writing such a character! i want to get the representation right :)

y'know the thing a lot of people who worry about "well if we just let ANYBODY be queer what will happen!!" don't talk about is like. what will probably happen if some cisgender heterosexual calls themself queer for X reason is that they will go to an inclusive queer space and listen to other people and discuss their own unique perspectives on issues. like a cishet ace might hear a gay man talk about feeling broken and ashamed and go "oh I've had a similar experience being ace!" and everyone else will get a chance to learn about how being ace changes your experiences with sexuality. if someone comes in and says "i'm queer because i'm autistic" and then talks about how their autism & experiences with ableism has impacted their interactions with gender in society, everyone will get a chance to learn how neurodivergence can change how you internalize gender and how ableism is often directly tied to gender.
the thing is, people will use shocking phrases like "oh so a cishet autistic person is queer now?? so a cishet incel is queer now???" because they have a very bitter and small-minded view of sexuality and gender. they are (not in a societal power sense, but in a moral/rhetoric sense) no better than conservative cisgender heterosexuals who lose their mind at butch lesbians and cis men wearing nail polish.
because what happens when a person says they are queer and get let in to queer spaces just on that is... they learn about other people and other people learn about them. if they act like an asshole they get educated and if they keep doing it they get kicked out. people who understand the radical nature of queerness should also understand that if someone says they are "queer", they probably have put thought into that and have a reason for feeling that way, and by letting them into queer spaces you have an opportunity to learn more about experiences outside of your own. and you get to help a person! it's a win-win scenario for everyone!
if someone says "i'm queer because of [wild crazy thing]," my reaction is going to be, "cool, i'd love to know more about how you came to identify as queer, i'm sure you have some really interesting things to say about queerness based on your experiences!" it's that simple. queerness is vague and unique and constantly shifting, and we all have more to learn about aspects of it. if someone finds comfort and solidarity in calling themself queer, then i'm sure we have some interesting things to talk about and learn from each other! nobody knows everything and humans can't be put in perfect boxes.

A Whisker Away
Word Count: 4.4 k
Themes: major fluff, a lot of friendship, sebastian sallow x f!reader x ominis gaunt
Summary: your transfiguration spell had gone wrong - you were stuck as a cat for the day. it wasn't bad, after all you get to spend time with your friends in a new perspective - even you get to confess to the boys that you had been harboring feelings for.

So bright.
You blinked a few times, adjusting to the blinding sunlight shining through the trees in the courtyard. Everything was brighter and clearer. Your body felt significantly lighter and nimbler. The grounds felt rough and hot. The spell works! You tried to yell, but what came out from your mouth was a loud "Meow!"
"It's not a difficult spell, Y/N." Professor Weasley smiled, her motherly aura was always comforting. She was very patient in teaching you some basic spells that were already taught in the first four years of the Wizarding School. But alas, you only had a couple of years to catch up before your N.E.W.Ts.
A year passed after the Ranrok incident, you've aced your O.W.Ls, and you've made great friends along the way - especially your unbreakable bond with two infamous Slytherin boys. The three of you were inseparable, and the school knows that. However, on that specific day, Professor Weasley asked you to study the Transfiguration spell by yourself. Conveniently, Sebastian and Ominis also had to do their assignments.
You found yourself in the middle of an empty courtyard, wand ready in your grasp. You imagined a black feline cat, similar to a cat that your family had back home in London. With a gentle swish of your wand, a blue light sparked, surrounding you as you quickly shrank down, and soft black fur covered your whole body. 
At least it works, you thought, Now I just need to get back to my human form. To your horror, your head blanked - no memory of how to do so. You eyed your wand, raking your brain as to how to actually hold the stick and cast the Untransfiguration spell. You started to panic, especially after hearing a hoard of footsteps approaching the courtyard. You hesitantly bit the wand, strutting to a hidden spot just behind the bushes, and set your wand there. Hopeful that it would stay hidden until you transform back into a human.

The experience wasn't as bad as you thought, you received a lot of compliments and pats from the students. You finished your class schedule for the day anyways, so no Professors would be worried about your whereabouts. 
In the corner of your eyes, you spotted a small girl, hunched by herself. Zenobia Noke! You thought. It was the girl that you helped finding gobstones all over the school. You felt bad, really, even though she was a bit odd, she didn't deserve to be ostracized for a mere game. You made your way to the girl, earning a sincere smile.
"Oh, hi kitty!" she beamed, patting your head. "Want to play with me?"
You meowed in response. It's not like anyone is looking for you at the moment. 
"Great!" Zenobia chuckled before going on about the game rules. You were slightly bewildered why this girl would go that far for a cat, but you shrug it off. You knew the rules obviously, being coerced to play by none other than Sebastian a while back. Somehow Zenobia wasn't suspicious that a cat was pretty deft playing the game, even winning once against her, spraying a God-awful stench towards the poor Ravenclaw.
"I've never had this much fun in a while," she giggled, even though she smelled horrendous, "I must say goodbye though, good cat. I need a shower."
As she left you, she shouted, "I'll see you again, Gobby!"
You were amused by the name, Zenobia was an odd girl after all, but she wasn't as bad as you thought. I guess I'm Gobby now. You chuckled to yourself.

As you were walking past the hallway, your nose picked up an interesting smell - a mix of marshmallows, grass, and burning rubber. Not long after, you heard a loud BANG!, followed by a massive purple smoke coming out from the male's lavatory. A few first-year students ran out of the premises, shouting as their bodies were covered in what seemed like purple dust. You shook your head, surely it was the fault of a certain Gryffindor boy. 
You marched into the bathroom, finding Garreth Weasley leaning against the bathroom wall, coughing his lungs out. You dimwit, what did you do this time? You wanted to say it out loud, but all you could do was utter another Meow. "Hello?!" he jumped, "Oh, it's just a cat." He laughed at himself, crouching down to pat your back, which was now littered with purple dust.
"You see, I'm in a predicament here." The redhead looked at what seemed like a destroyed toilet stall - or whatever was left of it. A cauldron filled with a sorry excuse of a potion was placed on top of the toilet, different rare ingredients (not sure where he got them from) scattered all over the floor. "I was testing my greatest invention. But you know what they say, there is no success without failure."
If you were in your human form, you most likely already had your face buried in your palms. You don't even remember the day when Garreth succeeded in his "inventions". As you were looking around for the cleaning supplies, the door bursted open, revealing another redhead - Leander Prewett stomped into the room, face red filled with anger.
His voice was calm in comparison to his visible veins popped on his temples, "I knew it was you again when I saw those poor first-years covered in purple dust!" he crossed his arms, "Do you know how many points had been taken out of Gryffindor because of you?!"
Garreth put his hand up and smiled apologetically, "I'm sorry?" He sighed loudly, "I'll clean it up before anyone else noticed. Really. Plus, this little cat here will help." Garreth winked at you.
You groaned internally, the sheer audacity of this man. "Oh, I didn't see you there." Leander flashed you a smile, also giving you a gentle pat on your head, "Sorry you had to see this, cat, but we need your help in saving Gryffindor's house points." He gave Garreth a vicious side-eye, "Would you help us sneak into Professor Sharp's storage room so I can steal a jar of Blatta Pulvereus?"
You nodded, forgetting that you should've acted like a normal cat: not understanding human gestures. The two Gryffindor students just shrugged, probably too deep into their plan of cleaning the mess before anyone else noticed. Garreth decided to stay and tidy up as best as he could, while Leander took you in his arms, striding towards the Potions class. "The plan is simple. I'll sneak you in through a small opening on the wall, and I shall tell Professor Sharp that my pet cat wandered into the room. He'll give me permission to go in," he grins mischievously, "Unlike Weasley, my records are squeaky clean."
Leander paused for a bit, the silence was a little awkward if you had to be honest. You never had the chance to talk to Leander a lot, your Slytherin friends often made unsavory remarks towards Prewett, and you weren't surprised since there was an unspoken tension between the two houses. "Since you're a cat, I'll be truly honest," his voice was low, almost inaudible, "I appreciate my friendship with Weasley. He's a menace and a serial troublemaker, but he always makes me laugh. He was the first person to say hi to me during our first year - and guess what? They thought I was a Weasley too!" he ended his confession with a laugh.
Leander and you arrived at the potions class in no time. He let you down, pointing towards a small hole leading into the storage room, perfectly fitting your nimble body. You gave him a meow and sneaked into the room. You overheard the brief conversation between Leander and Professor Sharp, the man was definitely too tired that he approved the request right away. In no time, the door clicked, and Leander winked at you. He grabbed the Blatta Pulvereus jar in a jiffy, stuffing it in his pocket, and scooped you up again in his arms. Leander thanked the Professor, who replied with an obviously annoyed grunt.
“Nice job, cat!” Leander grinned widely, “I think you deserve a name - Ginger!” He laughed at his own joke, “You might have black fur, but you can be the third member in our redhead trio.”
You meowed loudly in response, it’s definitely a better name that whatever Zenobia came up with earlier. The two of you practically ran back to the lavatory. “Just the people I wanted to see!” Garreth greeted with a toothy smile, “You took your sweet time… I had to pretend I had a terrible bowel sickness to make sure people stay away from the bathroom.”
Leander was visibly disgusted. “Whatever, here, work your magic.” He handed Garreth the ingredient. The Gryffindor boys quickly spray it all over the purple residue, promptly diminishing any proof of Weasley’s “failed” experiment. The boys high-fived each other, and they both gave you pats, “Welcome to the redhead trio, Ginger,” Leander and Garreth laughed, “You are more than welcome to join our, more legit, adventures next time.”
“Oh, I bet Ginger is hungry!” Garreth pulled out a black-ish jello from his satchel, “I made this super food that makes you not hungry for days- Wait!”
You walked away quickly from the two Gryffindor boys, I will definitely die if I eat that, you thought, shivering.

Garreth’s remark about food did make you realize you haven’t had anything since breakfast. Your stomach started to rumble, signaling that you need some substance if you have to continue your journey. You were busy thinking about how to find some sort of human food that you didn’t realize you’d bumped into a pair of legs. You looked up, Poppy Sweeting and Natty Onai! You were relieved to see your closest female friends.
“Such an adorable creature!” Natty mused, picking you up and hugging you close. You purred, Natty always gave the best hugs.
“Poor kitty,” Poppy added, patting your head, “I can hear your stomach grumbling! You must be hungry. I have some animal treats in my satchel if you want!”
You meowed loudly in protest, hissing at the Hufflepuff girl. She was taken aback. You felt sorry, but you were sure your good friend would understand if she knew the situation.
“Looks like our little friend wants something heartier and fancier,” Natty smiled,” We are planning to visit Hogsmeade for a little shopping spree. But looks like one of our friend forgot.”
You blinked, Merlin’s balls! You totally forgot that you promised the girls for a little trip to Hogsmeade. You felt bad, truly, but no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t tell them that you were stuck in the body of a cat. You were sure Natty and Poppy would understand, but-
“I knew Y/N forgets about us!” Imelda barged in, face visibly grumpy. Oh no, Imelda will skin me alive for this. 
Poppy held her hands up, “Calm down, Imelda, I’m sure Y/N is just busy with her schoolwork. We’ll ask her why tomorrow.”
���I’m sure she’s busy with Sallow and Gaunt!” Imelda huffed, “It’s hard enough to get us together these days… I just wanted to spend time with my girls.” Now you felt worse. You had a lot of schoolwork, but you did spend more time with Sebastian and Ominis these days. The two boys were pretty much hogging your time. You made a mental note to hang out with your girlfriends more - after all, they were always there to listen to your worries and gave more compassionate advices compared to the boys.
“I agree with Poppy,” Natty smiled, “I’m sure Y/N has her reasons. Let’s go to Honeydukes anyways. Plus, we have a stand-in over here.” The Gryffindor girl held you up to Imelda, who greeted you with a head scratch.
“Fine. Let’s go!”
With you in Natty arms, the three girls grabbed a handful of floo powder and set their destination to Hogsmeade. A green flame enveloped the students as they immediately transported to the middle of the small town. The courtyard was bustling with vendors, students, and shoppers. They hurried off to Honeydukes, with Imelda leading the charge. She rushed to a quaint table next to the window, the group’s favorite spot. 
“A pumpkin pasty for me, raspberry cake for Natty, blueberry muffin for Imelda, and a meat pie for our new friend.” Poppy brought their orders to the table, setting the meat pie on the ground for you to eat. You gobbled up the pastry in no time, you knew you can depend on your girls.
Imelda poured tea for the three girls, while she set a cup of milk on the ground. “Well,” she cleared her throat, “There is a specific reason why I asked you all to meet me today.”
The other two girls looked at her intently. You jumped onto Poppy’s lap, I’m not missing this! You thought. To your dismay, Imelda’s face was blushing red. She leaned in as the other girls did the same, “Everett Clompton asked me to be his girlfriend!” Her voice gradually went higher as she finished her sentence.
There was a short pause as everyone processed the information. Your jaw hung low in shock. “Oh dear, I’m sorry- Ouch!” Poppy yelped as Natty pinched her side.
“...And I assume from your giddy reaction, you said yes?” Natty smiled widely.
Imelda slowly nodded, “Yes, I did.” she whispered.
The group erupted in cheer, as they got glares from other customers. The girls laughed. “Congratulations, Imelda, you’re the first one in our group to be in a relationship!” said Natty.
“Ha! And you don’t count whatever Y/N have with Sallow and Gaunt as a relationship?” Imelda laughed, sipping her tea. What do you mean?! You meowed, frustrated that you were the topic of the conversation, even though you can’t say anything to defend yourself. “They are inseparable these days. I tried to ask her for Quidditch tryouts, but Sallow was all up in her space.” Imelda added.
“It’s pretty amusing to see how she is so oblivious,” Natty giggled, “I swear I saw Gaunt’s smile disappeared completely whenever Y/N talks to other boys, except for Sallow, of course.”
You were flabbergasted. Were you that daft? Sure, you harbored special feelings towards your closest friends, but you were too scared to speak up. The friendship that you shared together was like a treasure that you held close to your heart. You would rather bury your romantic feelings deep in your heart to not spoil your friendship. 
“Our dear cat is tense,” Poppy hummed while she stroked your back, “Hush now, it will be alright.” You purred and leaned back against her hands. You really wished you could vent your frustrations to them right now.
“So, Poppy, Natty,” Imelda eyed her friends, “Any gossips from your ends?”
The other girls and you looked at each other. Natty took the lead and shook her head, “Not for me,” she laughed, “My mother will skin me alive if she even thinks that I’m in a relationship while I’m still in my studies. Plus, I’m not rushing anything.”
“Cheers to that.” Imelda held out her tea cup, clinking it against the others’ cups.
“I..” Poppy paused, blush crept up her face, “Samantha Dale was being really nice to me.”
Natty and Imelda grinned, and you meowed loudly, “Go on.” Imelda wiggled her eyebrows.
“She’s probably nice to everyone!” Poppy quickly added, voice louder than before, “Plus, she’s so focused on her studies, I don’t think she even thinks about these things…”
“I think she’s just a nerd.” Imelda joked, earning a kick on her shin from Natty, “I’m sorry! I was just joking!” she sighed, “You should go for it, Poppy, if you don’t stay true to your feelings now, you will regret it. I am very sure of that.”
You took Imelda’s words. Their conversation seemed to drawned out by the thoughts in your head. Maybe Imelda was right, you should have stayed true to your own feelings and confess to Sebastian and Ominis. Will they think it’s weird for you to have a crush on two people at the same time? You raked your brains, not realizing that it was time for the group to head back to Hogwarts.
They returned to Hogwarts with another handful of floo powder. The girls bid their goodbyes as they took turn patting your head. “You’re a part of the coolest group in Hogwarts now,” Imelda laughed, “We’ll call you… Chamomile. Just like the delicious tea we had earlier.”
“I still wished Y/N was here.” Natty and Poppy sighed.
“Don’t worry, I’ll give her a good smack when she’s back!” Imelda nodded her head, smiling mischievously.

You laid down on your back at the astronomy tower, looking at the array of stars decorating the night. The tower was the place that you often went if you wanted to find an empty spot to think. It was always cold, but you had never gotten tired of the beautiful night sky. The conversations you had with the girls were echoing in your head. You barely saw Sebastian and Ominis that day. Are they worried that you’re not around? Do they not care about you anymore? The two Slytherin boys plagued your mind. Maybe it was better for you to stay as a cat so you didn’t have to deal with your urge to be more than friends with them.
Suddenly, a pain from your tail shot up throughout your body. You let out a loud shriek, your body instinctively jumped back, fur stood up, and you hissed at the boy who accidentally stepped on your tail. 
“Merlin’s beard! I’m so very sorry!” Amit dropped his scrolls, repeatedly apologizing for stepping on you.
Apology accepted, you meowed. You purred against his leg to show him that it was fine, and you understood that it was a mistake. He sighed and crouched down, patting your back.
“I’m sorry, kitty, I’m usually alone here.” Amit gathered his belongings and set down his books and scrolls on the table with a loud Thud!
You looked at him in awe. Amit was a diligent student, but you had never thought that he would stay up late to study. You jumped on the table, sitting down next to him as you scanned the books - all of them related to astrology.
“You don’t mind if I study here, don’t you?” Amit laughed, scratching your chin. You meowed in response, as if you were trying to say it’s alright.
“Well, even if you don’t understand, It’s nice to have a study mate.” He smiled, pointing at a cluster of star in the sky, “That’s Ursa Major, and that one is Draco… wait no, that is a Leo minor! And that one on the far right is Pollux.”
He sighed, “Do you know why I like stars, kitty?” he leaned back against his chair, setting his telescope down, “They are always in groups. Even if in reality they are far apart from each other, from our perspective, they look like they are never alone.” 
The Ravenclaw student smiled bitterly, “I missed my family,” he whispered, “It was hard for me to move here alone. My parents and siblings are currently living in India, so it’s so difficult to see them during breaks.”
“I tried to make friends, but they are hard to come by,” He sighed, but his smile came back again, looking at you, “But you are a good company and listener.”
You are my friend, Amit! You screamed out, resulting in a series of loud meows. He chuckled, “You are a smart one, aren’t you?” he tapped his chin, “I’ll call you Taara - it means ‘Star’ in Hindi.”
You meowed gleefuly, it was the prettiest name anyone in the school had given you so far. “I bet not a lot of students will understand that,” Amit chuckled, “It’ll be our little secret!”
Before he could continue, the doors opened. “I think it’s Professor Shah,” Amit said as he picked you up, striding down the tower and put you down in front of the classroom, “Sorry, Taara, Professor Shah isn’t too fond of animals in the Astronomy tower,” he frowned, “I’ll see you again soon!” 
Amit waved his hand as he retreated back to the tower.

Gobby, Ginger, Chamomile, and Taara.
Today was beyond eventful. It was almost time for the night curfew, and you were still stuck as a cat. Your limbs were tired from walking around the castle. A big part of you were grateful of this mishap, as you were able to get to know your schoolmates better. Although you spent your day with other students, you haven’t met the two people you were looking for.
“Ah, such a pretty cat.” You were startled at the sudden complement. You jumped back, eyes wide as you stared at a boy clad in shirt and long pants, a green Slytherin tie adorned on his chest. His auburn hair kept tousled. A huge smile formed on his freckled face. Sebastian! It’s me! You yelled on top of your lungs, still resulting in meows.
“A loud one, for sure.” A chuckle left another boy behind Sebastian. His eyes were light grey, as they were reflecting a cloudy storm. His hair was still neatly combed. The tip of his wand glowed, casting a beautiful red light against your black fur. 
Sebastian gently picked you up, holding you close in his arms. You hoped that he couldn’t hear how fast your heart was thumping. Surely, they don’t know about your situation, right? You inhaled his scent - cinnamon, musk, and a tinge of burning wood. You shamelessly curled up to him, purring as you did so. You felt Sebastian’s chuckled, “Looks like this cat is tired.” He gently stroked your back.
“Let’s bring it back to the common room,” Ominous replied, closing in to Sebastian as he slowly moved his hand, tracing your soft fur, “We have cozy fireplace and warm milk for our little friend.”
You heard the sound of fire crackling and warmth against your skin. You contorted your body as you found a comfortable position the pillow. As you blinked your eyes open, you were laying down on a pillow on top of Ominis’ lap. The two Slytherin boys were sitting on the sofa next to the fireplace. Sebastian was lounging with a book on his hand. Suddenly you were washed with sadness. You never felt safer than this moment, just with Sebastian and Ominis, the two boys that you cared for the most. You closed your eyes again, too cozy to wake up.
“You know, I haven’t seen Y/N today,” Sebastian muttered, eyes still glued to the book. Your ears perked up as they started to mention your name.
Ominis sighed, “I know, I’ve been worried sick. I hope nothing happened to her.” You found it hard to rest as your heart was beating faster. They were worried about me! you thought.
“I think she will be fine,” Sebastian hummed, “Y/N is smart, and strong to boot. I know she’ll be alright no matter what opponents or tasks she’s facing.”
“I agree. That’s why I find her so… beautiful.” Ominis added. With that sentence, you jolted up. Your heart and mind were in a jumble.
Ominis’ fingers caressed your head, “Sebastian, the cat is awake.”
Sebastian sighed in content as he closed his book, tossing it to the side. He walked closer to you, scratching your chin, “Did you have a good rest?”
You instinctively purred. Sebastian and Ominis chuckled at your reaction, “So adorable.” said the auburn haired boy.
“You know, Sebastian,” Ominis added, still stroking your back, “Since this cat wil probably stay with us for a while, should we name her?”
Sebastian nodded, smirking, “I have a name in mind…” He crouched down to meet your gaze, “How does Y/N sound?”
You stood up, meowing loudly. They knew?! Your emotions were mixed up; panic, embarrassment, and a bit of anger for not helping you earlier. 
“Hold on now,” Sebastian laughed, “I’ll help you.” He took out his wand and gently tapped your head. The same blue light reappeared around you as you turned back into human in a split second. You examined your fur-less fingers and grabbed onto your uniform, “I’m back!!” you shouted, pumpking your fist as if you’ve won a match. Realization sinked in as you heard the boys snickered. Your face immediately went tomato red as you felt Ominis squirmed underneath you. You scrambled away from his lap, curling in the corner of the sofa and hiding your face behind a pillow.
“...Just let me disappear.” Your voice was muffled behind the pillow.
Ominis was the one who stopped laughing first, “I’m so sorry, Y/N, I genuinely thought it was too adorable to see you as a feline.”
Sebastian rubbed the tears from his eyes, “Oh, I agree, as much as I felt bad, I was enjoying it.”
You tossed the pillow at Sebastian, “you could’ve helped me earlier!”
Sebastian caught the pillow, setting it aside, “I’m sorry! Truly. But I did get you back, didn’t I?” he winked.
“How did you both know it was me?” You asked, still hitting Sebastian and Ominis with whatever pillow you could find.
“Y/N…” Ominis impressively dodged the hits, “We’ve spent everyday together, how could I not feel your aura even if you’re not human?”
“Oh, and here you go.” Sebastian handed your wand back, “Did the professor not tell you to keep it safe?”
You huffed as you calmed down, “Thank you. I mean it. I was scared I was going to cough up hairballs at some point.” You twiddled your thumb, blush spreading your cheeks, “Were you both… Looking for me?”
Ominis let out another laugh, “We were panicking around the castle,” he coughed, “Well, Sebastian panicked around the castle. He almost asked the Headmaster for a search party if I didn’t hold on to his collars. On the other hand, I am searching for you calm and collected.”
“Lies. He almost cried.”
Ominis’ face turned sour as you laughed at their antics. You held out your arms and hugged the two close, “Thank you, again, you both are always there for me.”
“It’s because we love you, Y/N.” Sebastian sighed in content as he stroked your hair.
Ominis placed his hand on your back gently, “You are the most important person in our lives.” A gentle smile plastered on his face.
You looked up at them. Their confessions were stern and confident, but your heart leapt as you saw how red their faces are - sincerity evident in their expressions. You hugged them even tighter, “I love you both so much.”

hi hi!!! i love every single one of your headcanons you’re always so right! i was just wondering if you could like ramble or tell us some headcanons you have for rosekiller?
hello hello nonnie!! i'm SO sorry for how long it took me to reply to this, i wanted to sit down and write a proper response and i haven't had a lot of time for that lately </3 but i'm here now!! hoping the wait will be worth it and that you'd like at least a few of my hcs!!!
so, here u have some of my opinions on rosekiller <3
barty was the last one to join their little group and he and evan didn't really get along at first
they didn't hate each other or anything, otherwise evan wouldn't have been okay with being around barty and viceversa, but they clashed a lot
barty had (and still has tbh) a bit of a fixation on him so he enjoyed riling him up and watching his reactions, getting him to lose his composure
evan had a certain curiosity, but the frustration he felt around barty sort of eclipsed everything else
evan is usually really good at reading people, he likes to observe them and study them sometimes (although he prefers it when they're . dead) but he has a hard time understanding barty and that's where both his irritation and his curiosity come from
despite the constant bickering and the neverending arguments, they're always together. basically attached at the hip. and they both grow uneasy whenever they spend more than an hour away from each other
at some point barty's fixation became more of an obsession and it didn't take him long to realise he wanted evan in . every sense of the word
he did fool around with reg for a while tho bc they both had a crush on each other for a lil bit and were very attracted to each other etc etc
it didn't last bc despite the sexual chemistry they didn't work that well as a romantic couple, bc . well . it's bartylus . they're always gonna be a secred third thing . to me . them as a couple is always bound to end in pieces imo
evan wasn't the biggest fan of this relationship.. he didn't understand why it bothered him so much, which annoyed him even more but. yeah he was quite jealous and he and barty fought more than ever during that time
after the breakup tho barty turned up the flirting to the max bc he came to the conclusion it was evan for him and no one else
i think they're very dysfunctional as a couple as in . they seem kinda normal at a first glance, apart from how much they contrast aaesthetically, but they're both batshit insane in their own ways
but i think their . types of crazy fit and they do balance each other out and work really well as a couple
like yeah they're feral and unhinged and into some shit that would scandalise most ppl but they're healthy and happy and very much in love
i don't think evan had any sexual experience until barty. he's somewhere in the ace spectrum to me. most of his interest in it came from a scientific perspective and he didn't get horny often, especially not bc of other ppl
barty gets off on this. it's a bit of a virginity kink and a bit of a corruption kink
evan wears a lot of barty's shirts and jumpers, bc despite how he turns his nose at all of them and complains about how they look and how they ridiculously big they are on him, they're very comfy and smell like barty
he doesn't usually wear them in public tho
barty lets evan use him for his experiments and does so happily!! hear evan ramble and infodump turns him on quite a lot
contrary to popular belief (maybe?) evan is big on cuddling, and he's always tucked at barty's side, or holding his hand, and letting barty wrap around his shoulders or around his waist
neither of them are big on pet names. barty calls him rosie (or blondie but that's just him being purposefully obnoxious) but that's about it
it's different when they're fucking tho.. i feel like barty loves to drop a "pretty boy/thing" or a "doll" when they're at it, because he's very possessive and their dynamic while they have sex is a bit different
evan only calls him barty tho. i could see him using "sweetheart" when he's tired and softer around the edges or when he's trying to get barty to do something for him but . that's all
they still bicker A Lot after they get together BUT it's a lot more playful and gentle, at least on barty's side, bc he loves to dote on evan and always does his best to keep him happy and content
they're insanely attuned to each other. barty can tell what evan needs just by the way he sighs and viceversa
and i'm gonna stop there bc this is so long it's actually . embarrassing

Hear me out,,,,, yknow that thing about sebek being good at acting??? like just an absolute theatre kid, yeah? think about it, sebel at VDC, just like wowing EVERBODY with his skills,,,,, (that's it I don't know how to properly send asks I'm sorry 😭)
Anon you've unleashed a monster. And I mean a REAL monster. I am making a full fucking event at this point.
Now, to make things make...a bit more sense in a way, we do this during Sebek's second year. Sorry third years you're off into your internships 😔
So, without their powerhouse Vil leading for VDC, NRC is quite worried. Because despite Vil's harsh training, he KNEW what he was doing and has had loads of experience. We're going to remove the previous VDC members for sake of mixing things up a bit, except for Epel and Jamil.
Epel as a way to...show the torch being passed on to EPEL, AS HE LEARNS TO SEE VIL'S PERSPECTIVE OF BEAUTY, AND LEARNING TO USE THIS KNOWLEDGE THAT HE'S GAINED FROM HIM TO TRULY EMBODY POMEFIORE'S TENACITY...I love Pomefiore
Jamil since this could also signify how he's finally given himself the chance to indulge in things he couldn't before without any outside force pushing him to do so. These two will be the "leaders" for this year's VDC.
They try to recruit with...minimal success. Less people have auditioned due to Vil being gone, and the new first years aren't really that passionate about VDC, especially after last year's shocking result of NRC losing to a single vote.
Their first recruit however is Ortho, eager to properly audition VDC to get a chance to experience it. Unlike last year, he's able to get in since Epel knows how much this means to him as he continues to try and find himself after Book 6 events.
Their next recruit is, to Jamil's dismay, Azul. He's actually suggested by Ortho, who informs Epel and Jamil of a beautiful singing voice that his sensors have picked up on from time to time, ever since last year. Ortho singles it out for the first time, and claims for it to be Azul's voice.
Recruiting Azul isn't easy, as he keeps on bargaining with Jamil to create a contract with him first before he can join. Epel finally points out that participating in VDC is already a great pro for Azul as he could use this as a chance to promote his business. Azul reluctantly agrees, but Jamil can sense that there's something that Azul isn't telling them.
They still need more people, and this is where Azul out of the "goodness" of his heart, informs them that Floyd has actually been interested in auditioning for VDC. This shocks the others, and they question if Floyd even has the skills for VDC. Or if he even has the DRIVE to do so, since Floyd can switch up moods and interests in a whim. This is something that Azul has also been worried about, which is why he initially didn't tell them about it.
But he does say that Floyd can be quite focused when he puts his mind to it, they just need a way to keep his interest from waning. Jamil disagrees with him, saying that it would be too much hard work to do so. They eventually drop it, and continue to try and find more people.
Epel's confidence wavers a bit due to this, his stress building up and turns to the first years for help. He asks Ace and Deuce if they're interested to audition for VDC again, but they turn his offer down since despite the event being fun, they do NOT want to go through training again. Jack turns it down as well, needing to help Ruggie manage the dorm. Uh whether he was made housewarden or vice is up to you.
Sebek, who was reading a book, turns it down too as Diasomnia's moral has decreased significantly ever since Malleus and Lilia leftfor internships. Epel says that maybe VDC could bring it back up again, but Sebek combats this by saying that he has no interest in singing nor dancing. Epel drops the subject.
Then, a scuffle happens in the cafeteria. Floyd is pestering Riddle again. Epel is surprised, as he's seen the Leech twin bothering the Heartslabyul housewarden ever since last year, and that he's still going at it. Ace mentions that he's probably been like that ever since they were first years, and for some reason Floyd thinks Riddle is interesting. This gives Epel an idea.
He makes a plan to lure Riddle to the VDC audition room, while Azul will bring Floyd. This backfires however when Riddle gets suspicious of him, and asks why he wants him to go there. Epel says that it's super important, but Riddle doesn't waver. Eventually, Jamil comes to the rescue and tells Riddle that a second year wants to audition, and before he can continue with the lie by saying "they need a housewarden's permission first," Riddle surprisingly gives in pretty quickly.
Just in time too, as Floyd who has been waiting for quite a while is getting bored of the idea of VDC since the judges aren't even here yet. Azul desperately tries to keep him inside the room but Floyd shrugs him off and is about to leave, but is having a hard time to budge the door open for some reason. When he's about to literally bodyslam into it, Jamil, Riddle and Epel come in.
Riddle is furious once he's learned that he's been tricked, while Floyd is ecstatic. Riddle demands Epel to tell him why he doesn't deserve to use his UM on him right then and there. Epel finally breaks down and confesses that making sure VDC goes well means a lot to him, as he wants to make Vil and Rook proud (I LOVE POMETRIO). As one of the "leaders" of the group, and as a Pomefiore dorm student, he WILL make sure that he'll create an act that will wow the audience, and might even surpass Vil's own. He wants to show Vil and Rook that he has grown (I LOVEEE POMETRIO).
Eventually moved, Riddle agrees to join the group... ONLY after setting down a bunch of ground rules, most pointed towards Floyd. Floyd breaks like, half of them on the FIRST DAY and Riddle almost quits, but realizes how Floyd has been surprisingly focused for training for VDC. He learns that Floyd was also interested in VDC because the twins didn't want to leave Azul alone by himself.
Riddle gets confused by this but isn't able to question Floyd further. He is only able to find out what Floyd means when Azul has to actually practice onstage. Azul freezes up, messing it up causing Jamil to snap at him.
Floyd is quick to defend Azul in his own way, threatening to squeeze Jamil when Riddle finally figures it out and outright asks Azul if he has stage fright. Azul quickly denies this, but after a few more jabs from Riddle he admits it. Jamil gets annoyed, seeing that Azul was boasting all about how he would greatly contribute to VDC only to be stopped because he's "shy."
Vil tells him to find someone who could replace Azul, but Epel stubbornly says that he wants Azul on the team. Vil sighs, saying that he should be grateful that he isn't there physically right now, and tells him to find what exactly about performing onstage makes Azul freeze up. He notes that when Azul practiced, there was no big audience or crowd. Was it just the feeling of being onstage himself? Is he just also "shy" in front of small crowds?
Cue VDC breakup that actually happens, and Epel is down in the dumps. He eventually calls Vil and asks for advice. Vil scolds him and asks why didn't he call sooner, and Epel admits his insecurities of not being able to do Vil and Rook proud. Vil tells him to stop thinking of how they would think of their act because no matter what, they know that Epel will always do his best and give a spectacular performance.
...I love pometrio.
With this advice, Epel tries to confront Azul. It doesn't work until Floyd jumps in as well and tells Azul to stop being a crybaby. This triggers Azul causing him to snap at Floyd until Floyd points out that for some reason, he's regressed back to how he was when they were children. He's seen Azul exaggerating his own actions for the sake of Monstro Lounge publicity in front of many NRC students, so why is he suddenly scared of performing onstage?
Azul isn't the crybaby he used to be anymore. He has people he can depend on now. Jade and Floyd still have his back. But Azul won't admit what's wrong with him until Jamil surprisingly comes into the picture, holding up a post from a certain Prince Rielle with a group of friends behind him with the caption, "Excited for VDC!" Azul is surprised as well as Floyd, wondering how he even found Prince Rielle's post.
Turns out Prince Rielle's group of friends used to be Azul's bullies, and he's worried of what they'll think about him when they see him onstage. Epel thinks back to his conversation with Vil and tells Azul to quit bitching. He didn't work his ass off for VDC for nothing and he is not letting Azul's stage fright ruin this.
Floyd gets confused and says how is Epel's "speech" helping their dilemma. Epel finally gets to the point: telling Azul that he's grown up since his bullies have last seen him. He's strong and capable now, and if anyone tries to mess with him they'll beat their ass for him anyway. THAT Floyd understands and agrees with. Jamil reluctantly says that he'll also offer his own help.
Touched, Azul tries to practice again onstage. He messes up midway but is able to pull through. Jamil says that they can touch up on it, especially since Azul has difficulty with dancing. Either way, he tells him that it was "good enough," but that they'll need to work themselves to the bone if they want to win VDC as they've wasted a lot of time due to trying to find people to recruit and the whole VDC breakup thing.
"Wow Quincy where is Riddle" While VDC breakup happened Riddle took note that Azul's weakness involved dancing, but his talents lied in his singing. Looking through the VDC rulebook, he makes an interesting discovery: Not EVERYONE necessarily has to sing AND dance. And that they can showcase their act through multiple forms of art, as long as it was LIVE and had singing and dancing. I'm making this all up by the way I dont know VDC rules or whatever.
He proposes the idea that they set up their act like a musical play, hopefully based on a story that everyone is familiar with AND where they could accommodate Azul so he wouldn't have to dance as much due to their time constraint. They all go to the library to find a story they can use when Ortho hears a sudden thump.
He goes into an aisle where the sound came from and finds a discarded book of fairy tales lying on the floor. There's a bookmark inside and Ortho goes to its page and sees that it's the story "The Little Mermaid." He suggests the story, saying that Azul could act as Ursula. If they're allowed, maybe they could even have a huge water tank or pull off some holographic illusions to truly encapsulate scenes underwater.
Azul declines because 1) YOU WANT HIM TO ACT AS HIS IDOL!?!?!?!?! and 2) That requires being in his octo-form. Riddle gives the final push they need to convince Azul by saying that this is the chance to prove not only to Azul's bullies but also to himself that he can finally get over his fears and doubts.
So now, they're getting ready for VDC, and it's their last week. Please note that the story of the Little Mermaid is DIFFERENT in twisted Wonderland, so there are tweaks here. Non-evil Ursula and all that jazz.
And then, Epel video calls with Vil. Mostly to catch up and to talk about the progress they've made as a group. He won't tell him what they're actually doing for VDC though. Vil looks at everyone's smiling faces through the screen, smiles as well and suddenly says, "Where's your 7th member?" Everyone freezes up.
"S-seventh?" Epel stutters out. Vil raises a brow. "You need at least seven or eight people for VDC, potato. Don't tell me-" Epel hangs up. Everyone sits in silence. Then, they panic. THEY'RE ONLY 6 PEOPLE?? And now they have to find an extra person.
But there's no time to find a suitable candidate. They would need to interview them, catch them up on the script and the moves-
Epel BREAKS DOWN. All this work for NOTHING because he didn't know about the stupid 7-8 students rule. Everyone is inconsolable, until Riddle suddenly sighs and says that he knows someone they could go to. Jamil refutes this, saying they dont have enough time to find another person and train them, when Riddle just shuts him off and tells everyone to follow him.
Everyone reluctantly does, surprised to see that they're being lead to the Diasomnia dorms. Silver greets them, asking why they're here. Riddle asks if Sebek is around, and as if on cue he walks into the lounge. He gapes at the group before pushing them out of the dorm, ignoring Silver's confused expression.
Sebek demands why they're all here, when Riddle coughs into his hand and tells him, "Care to reveal what you've been doing?" Sebek crosses his arms. "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOURE TALKING ABOUT!" Riddle sighs. "When Epel told you about his problems with recruiting people for VDC, you helped him out, didn't you?"
Everyone turns towards Riddle, confused. Epel most especially, "But, Sebek said he didn't-" "Floyd, when I entered the audition room, you were about to leave, weren't you?" Floyd grins. "Hehe, how did you know that, goldfishie?" Riddle rolls his eyes, "Weren't you?"
"You're no fun." Floyd pouts. "Yeah, I was."
"But when you were trying to leave, I noticed you had a problem with opening the door for some reason." Epel and Jamil look at each other. "Did we lock the other door?" Azul shook his head, "Nope, it was unlocked. If Floyd tried to escape I was just going to use myself as a barricade."
"Yet, why was it locked?" Riddle squints his eyes at Sebek. "Or rather, why was it being blocked?" Sebek doesn't waver. Riddle continues to point out that Ortho had found their story for the play through a book with a bookmark. He asks Ortho to take it out and see if there was anything interesting about it.
Ortho does so and notices that the charm connected to it is shaped like a thunderbolt. Sebek rolls his eyes and says that anyone could own a bookmark like that. But Epel refutes this because when he asked the first years for help, he saw that Sebek was reading a book with the very same bookmark.
At this, Sebek seems to tense up a bit but won't admit to anything. Then, Jamil finally remembers something. Riddle immediately followed him and Epel when he mentioned a second year in the audition room. Jamil was saying it with Ace or Deuce in mind, yet with the extra information now, it seems that Riddle was thinking of another second year.
Riddle tells him that he's correct: he was thinking of Sebek. Because Sebek himself admitted to him that he wanted to audition for VDC. At this, the group beg Sebek to join them, but he still turns them down. "I'M NOT SKILLED AT SINGING NOR DANCING, REMEMBER FELMIER?" Sebek huffs as Epel wilts. "I'M SURE YOU WILL FIND ANOTHER SUITABLE CANDIDATE. NOW, IF YOULL EXCUSE ME-"
"Monsieur Croc, why do you say such things when your performance in the Sleepless Castle was simply just- beaute!" Everyone freezes up when they hear Rook's voice. Epel grabs his phone and makes a fast excuse when Vil just sighs. "You only closed your camera. You didn't hang up, little potato."
After that embarrassing moment, Rook reveals that Sebek is quite skilled in singing, saying that he had a "voice that could even fit operas!" Knowing how Rook is, Epel is even more determined to get Sebek into their team.
Sebek quietly curses Rook in his mind.

Mera! I'm losing track of the days lol, but so long as i send an ask a week, i think i should be okay 😂
Also feel free to post your hsr hair thoughts bc i love to read your rambles as much as your fics! I'm looking forward to the jade one and him imitating floyd is really amusing. I like to think jade has a sort of pride about him where he loathes being compared to floyd but also jokes it off when someone does or when someone mistakes them, so i can imagine his pride and ego taking a hit but he endures it for sake of reader. Almost like he gets addicted to acting like floyd bc everyone likes floyd better anyways, right? So why not give the people what they want! He receives such a positive response when he acts like floyd that it rewires the hurt in his brain and suddenly the thing he hates is now cathartic for him but theres still that underlying hurt underneath >.<
BUT thats not why im here hehehe, for this weeks questionnnnn......
Who do you think would be the 'final girl' in a slasher film from each dorm? And then if u can, who do you think would be the ultimate survivor? He'd do anything for you, even if it means he has to endure bittersweet pain just to see you smile. >_< all he wants is a chance with you and he gets that when he acts as Floyd. It may be uncomfortable and it may chip away pieces of his pride as an individual, but you laugh at his jokes and look at him like he's the only one in your world. He'll do whatever he can just to receive a crumb of your affection, even if it's all meant to be reserved for Floyd. Aaaa I love writing this version of Jade!!!! He's just so interesting and obsessed!! orz
Ooooo final girls from each dorm!!! That's such a fun question. Here are my thoughts!!! ^w^
Heartslabyul's final girl would be Cater. He's so perfect for the final girl trope! You think he might die first because he's pretty and can't let go of his phone for the life of him, but when he gets serious he can be very cutthroat. <3 the idiotic duo would have to be Ace and Deuce. Deuce hears a strange noise and wants to check it out because he's definitely not scared of demons or killers and he'll beat up anything that tries to hurt him and his friends. Ace thinks he's trying to prank him, but he begrudgingly follows him, thinking it's either nothing and Deuce is trying to scare him or it'll just turn out to be something with a completely natural explanation. It's neither, and while they're both bickering the killer looms from behind. Riddle is the logical one who tries to put everything into perspective and figure out a logical reason behind everything. Trey is, unsurprisingly, the mom friend who just wants everyone to stay in one place because hopefully the authorities will show up soon (they never will).
Savanaclaw's final girl is Ruggie. He's resourceful and cunning; you think he may die first, but he's actually very good at survival. He'll live, but he comes out of the horrific night covered in blood after he's just fought the killer to the death. Jack is your typical jock, kind-hearted and caring, who doesn't believe in any of that ghost stuff or horror movie trope stuff, but when it becomes too real he gets even more serious than before, determined to survive and protect those close to him. Leona strikes me as the type who, upon the first sign of something suspicious or dangerous, promptly leaves. He will not be swept up in any murder plots, no thank you. <3 either that or he sleeps through it all and the killer thinks he's dead at first glance LOL.
Octavinelle's final girl would be Floyd. As goofy as he is, he's also another cutthroat guy who can and will survive. He may throw himself directly at danger, but somehow he always comes out of it alive. Jade is your typical killer-in-hiding. You won't suspect him until it's too late, and by then nearly half the cast is dead. Azul is the type who acts like an ally to everyone, but he's secretly either plotting with the killer or planning to sacrifice everyone in order to save himself.
Scarabia's final girl is Jamil. Most of his decisions are made solely to protect Kalim (who naturally is the comedic relief/carefree friend who is just too sweet for this world), but there's a build-up in this movie where the plot twist is that Jamil ultimately ends up tricking Kalim. Is it possible for both him and Jamil to survive? Perhaps, but this isn't that kind of movie. :) and from the bloodshed, Jamil emerges, alive, exhausted, and traumatized. (Or I could also see Jamil as a killer-in-hiding and Kalim as the final girl; it fits either way in my mind hehe!! :D)
Pomefiore's final girl is either Epel or Vil. It's hard to choose just one of them for the trope because I feel like it can fit them both in different ways. Rook is obviously the killer-in-hiding or he's just that really unnerving character who happens to know too much about how a killer thinks. >_< Vil as a final girl would be so cool because I think he can also be quite cutthroat. He's the character type who spends most of his focus on himself throughout the movie, yet he still manages to survive. How, you may ask? He weaponized various beauty products or, my most favorite idea, he fought the killer in heels and won, by which the heels absolutely became his weapon. >:) Epel as a final girl would be somewhat surprising because he's the character who no one really expects to live because he's "so petite and cute and omg how will he ever survive the big, scary killer!!!!" D: but then Epel shocks everyone when he ends up arming himself with brass knuckles or a baseball bat to go hunt down the killer himself.
Ignihyde's final girl is Idia, but then he also fits into the loser nerd category. Idia as a final girl is a little frustrating because he spends the entire movie being prideful and rude to the other characters, so everyone sort of wants him to be killed off first because he's so unlikable. But because Idia's seen all of these tropes before and knows his way around a horror movie, he ends up surviving. Ortho survives as well, but then I can also picture him being something of a sci-fi horror villain (i.e. technology becomes bad and targets humans). It's something like in book six where he was giving the students little tests in order to advance to the next level. Just a little villainous and devious!
Diasomnia's final girl is Silver. The stress of the situation manages to keep him awake, and so he's mainly in survival mode for the entirety of the film. Silver does his best to protect everyone, even putting himself at risk if it means he can save his friends. Sebek likely puts up a good fight, but he's far too stubborn and can't be quiet to save his life, so he ends up getting killed. I feel like Lilia could be a killer-in-hiding, or he's just the mischievous trickster type. Malleus could also be a killer-in-hiding, or he's the trope of "misunderstood character with a reputation that is solely rumors who turns out to be quite sweet and helpful to the main character."

Hi sex witch, i realise that this is not an actual sex ed related question and I hope this isn't overstepping any bounds.
I'm sort of in a weird spot right now a la my sexuality and am trying to figure out if I actually want a relationship and if what I feel is romantic attraction or Friendship levelled up. I've known for a long time that I'm Demisexual or Ace, and I thought I knew that I still felt romantic attraction but now I'm less sure.
How did you come to realise that you were aromantic? In that discovery did you ever wonder if it was a sort of 'mental block' or something similar that would be better off working through? (I ask because I'm sort of stuck in that state of mind right now, and I'm just curious to see if it's a common experience or not)
I realise that this is a fairly sensitive topic, and I really don't mean offense by asking.
I also realise that no two people's experiences will be the same but I was interested in hearing about it from another person's perspective.

there's a funny story that I tell about the moment I probably should have known, but didn't yet have the language. in sixth grade my class had an assignment that involved making a collage timeline of the rest of our lives (a proto-vision board of sorts) and I think I was the only kid in the class who didn't put getting married on my timeline. everyone else did, as far as I can remember, and most of them also included having kids. being a pedantic little fuck I pointed out to several of my friends that it was really unreasonable to assume they would find someone they liked enough to marry who liked them back, to which everyone told me (paraphrasing) to shut the fuck up and stop being a little bastard.
but it still seemed very strange to me, because even when I was very young - back when I barely had the language to conceptualize being gay, let alone aromantic - I never imagined my life with a romantic partner. romantic pairings were interesting in stories, sure, I ate that shit up from a very young age! the star-crossed lovers shit going on in American Dragon: Jake Long did a number on my developing brain, and my Barbies and Littlest Pet Shops got up to INSANE relationship drama, but for myself it never really felt, like, relevant? not unpleasant, just uninteresting.
but I still had crushes on people as I grew up, and more importantly I had crushes on people of various genders, so during my teen years I was WAY more preoccupied with repressing my burgeoning bisexuality than drawing any conclusions about my romantic orientation
spoilers: the bisexuality won.
in college I had a friend who identified as asexual at the time, who spent maybe a year trying to convince me that I was aromantic. and I didn't want to hear it! I don't know why, honestly; maybe some part of me, despite loving the community I had found coming into my queerness, was still subconsciously afraid of being too different and grappling with the consequences.
so instead I did this uuuuh real dirtbag thing where instead of just acknowledging to myself that I was pretty fundamentally uninterested in romantic relationships and that that's fine, I spent the first half of college leaning hard on self-deprecation to explain my single status. oh, me? why aren't I dating? well, I'd probably be a really bad partner. yeah, I suck. I mean, I'm so busy all the time! and I'm weird.
(at the time I know I definitely had friends who assumed I was Like That because my parents were divorced, which is hilarious old-fashioned and also categorically untrue. I was Like This way before my parents got divorced!)
it actually took a relationship ending pretty badly to make peace with the idea that maybe I didn't want a relationship at all. I won't get into the details on that, because it involves another person and we were both very young and accidentally hurt each other a lot in ways we didn't mean and I don't think anyone was the villain, but I don't want it to come across like I had one bad breakup and then swore off romance, a thing I'd previously been interested in, forever. it was more like I found myself in a really heightened situation - they really desperately needed a good and attentive romantic partner after getting out of a bad relationship, I wanted our friendship to stay exactly the same but with a sexual component - that made very, very obvious what I was actually looking for in non-platonic relationships. which was, I guess, actually pretty platonic relationships, but with genitals involved.
haha just kidding, I actually didn't get that part through my skull until I spent an entire summer crying constantly, dissociating frequently, and spending way too much time on BAD dates having even worse sex that made me feel gross! but we got there eventually.
that part probably isn't super relatable to you if you're somewhere in the ace realm, sorry about that.
anyway, once the dust settled and I felt halfway human again I was feeling vulnerable and open to change - finally willing to see myself in a new way and reckon with parts of myself that I hadn't been before. I remembered what my buddy had always said about me seeming Really Aromantic, and I let it settle on me. how would I feel, if I actually was aromantic? how would it change my life, how I thought about myself?
and if I can use a cliche with you? it felt like a weight rolling off my shoulders. I suddenly had a whole sturdy base to build a better understanding of myself on, an easy way to justify the way I lived that didn't require throwing myself under a bus.
thinking of myself through the lens of aromanticism felt like a huge, HUGE relief, and frankly I think that, more than anything, is the best way for anyone to decide if they should be applying any identity label to themselves. which brings us back to you! I actually don't believe in the model of sexuality and gender that posits a secret innate Right Answer buried in each person that they'll discover if the just find the right terminology. all of the words we use are the result of our time and place, right? people like us existed all through history with different words for themselves, and they'll exist way after us calling themselves things we can't imagine.
so basically: I came to realize I was aromantic because calling myself aromantic felt like loving myself, and if that's the case for you than I strongly recommend you do it, too.

On Comphet, Compallo and Biphobia
Since writing my last essay I've had the pleasure of being exposed to some great questions that got me thinking. If the root of comphet is about not liking men and being in a patriarchal heteronormative society wouldn't Asexual or Ace/Aro women also experience comphet. When I first heard this, I thought it was very interesting and brought up a very good point. As I thought about it more, the one thing that came to mind about why their experience wouldn't exactly line up with comphet was comphet along with being about the lack of attraction to men and living in heteronormative patriarchal society is about lesbiphobia and the demonization of lesbians and lesbian relationships. Luckily I was able to hear the perspectives of a few ace lesbians but also a few non lesbian ace/aro people. They brought up a term that I hadn't previously heard of before “compallo”. Compallo is the compulsion to feel romantic or sexual feelings. The difference between comphet and compallo is that compallo is rooted in the compulsion to have romantic feelings while comphet is the compulsion to be heterosexual. Because we live in a heteronormative society, people who experience compallo will most likely “choose” to be in a heterosexual relationship or fake heterosexual romantic feelings. On the other hand I as a lesbian would experience comphet but not compallo. Although I am forcing myself to have romantic feelings when I don't it's rooted in being a lesbian not being asexual. It may seem similar but it's not the correct term to label my experience or other allosexual lesbians experiences.
I think the struggles of asexuals often get looked over. As I've been exposed to more asexual people and their experience I learned about things I would have never realized on my own. Asexuals are taught they're broken for not experiencing romantic or sexual attraction. We're taught romantic and sexual feelings are natural which is true the majority of people do have sexual attraction and that's completely okay. What's true at the same time is that there are people who don't. They're not broken, they don't need to be fixed and they're not making it up for attention.
I see a lot of people debating on the topic if asexuality should be a part of the LGBTQ. In my opinion if any group feels safe, feels seen and can relate to the queer experience they should be considered a part of the community. Who alone can really decide what's queer or not. Asexuals are considered broken and strange by society and what could be more queer than that. I think rather than trying to gatekeep who can call themselves queer we should focus on supporting queer people and validating our different experiences.
I also have seen people talking about why do we even need these terms and distinctions in the first place? My personal belief is we need certain terms to describe unique experiences because they summarize a complex topic within a word or two. Instead of having to explain my feelings of comphet I can simply say I experience comphet and people will understand what that means. Terms like comphet or compallo aren't meant to separate and categorize queer people but instead to highlight unique experiences of certain groups. Focusing on one group's issues doesn't make other issues less important. Saying comphet is a lesbian unique experience doesn't downplay the experience bisexual women have in a heteronormative society. As I've said before bisexual women and lesbians share the pain and pleasure of loving women but bisexual women don't understand the pain of not liking men. Even if you lean towards women you are still bisexual and you still can experience sexual attraction towards men. Lesbians never will have that option. For me coming to terms I didn't like men was harder than coming to terms with the fact I liked women's Bisexual women also go through their own unique experience lesbians don't go through. As someone who has never dated men I have never gone through all of the difficulties of dating men as a queer woman. I also can't relate to the biphobia bi women may experience from people within their own community.
I want to be 100% clear that bisexual women aren't any less queer than lesbians and they are a very important part of the queer community. I also don't want to diminish the biphobia they experience. No matter if a bisexual woman is in a straight or a lesbian relationship they're still bisexual. I know the statistics that bi women are disproportionately victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Bi women have their own experience and lesbians have their own experience and both can relate to each other while realizing they live two different experiences.

i like your interesting take on tsumugi as a protagonist. i don't hear tsumugi a lot in terms of meta reasons and appreciation and i'd like to hear your though about tsumugi being a main protagonist please. :)
I'd LOVE to. Protagonist Tsumugi is something I really do think fondly of and often wish for.
Firstly, I think Tsumugi is really the only mastermind who you feasibly could play in a perspective of without making them forget they're the mastermind (a la Izuru). So much of V3 is either pre-planned or run by others on Team Danganronpa that her actual involvement as a mastermind is essentially nil - she's just doing damage control. It would be very easy to foreshadow the reveal without outright revealing that she's involved, the same way as with Kaede in the first trial.
Tsumugi is also the V3 character who has the most vested interest in keeping the trials going and making sure they get solved, because if the trial ends there, then there's no show. I could absolutely see Tsumugi's protagonist interventions ("No, that's wrong!") as being subtle interventions to make sure that the group is on the right track, but justified in her not quite knowing the answers because she isn't an ace detective, she's just a cosplayer with a mic in her ear to tell her when she needs to get everyone back on track.
I also think that playing as Tsumugi would play into V3's greater theme of culpability and the control of the audience. By playing as the mastermind, you are directing the killing game. Within the fiction, you, the player, are personally responsible for what happens here. Again, Kaede plays into this in a lot of ways as well (I think a version of the game where you still play as Kaede at first would serve this AU best), but the slow burn of it all makes the realization that much more horrifying, in the same way as the realization that everyone is Remnants at the end of SDR2. Kiibo as protagonist could also accomplish this, since you'd be more connected to the in-universe audience, but I think Tsumugi would provide an interesting take unique to her where the player is really taking on the role of Team Danganronpa itself.
There's an overarching theme that Tsumugi fits into with previous protagonists, too; Komaru had no connection to the mastermind, Makoto was friends with the mastermind once, Kaede and Hajime were accomplices to the mastermind once, and Tsumugi is the mastermind/accomplice to the masterminds. You get the final entry into this sort of sliding scale of connection to the villain, which in current DR is kind of dangling open-ended.
And she's also the only character in V3 who really plays into Danganronpa's overarching theme of the imposter complex ("plain, plain, plain")! I think it'd be so cool to have a take on the I'm Just Some Guy nature of DR's protagonists that is actually very talented, but still has this low self esteem because of the way they think about their talent. They tried to do this with Shuichi a little bit, but imo it wasn't very effective, because it never really came up; Shuichi's arc wasn't about learning that he is actually a good detective, it was about overcoming trauma. A Tsumugi arc where she learns that her talent is valuable, that she can have an impact on the things and people she cares about - especially when we, as the audience, think she's talking about supporting the other players, but in reality she's talking about supporting the killing game? Oh. Ooooooooh. I love that shit.
I do generally think that they should have done a lot more with Tsumugi's character. And, in fairness to them, there are reasons for Tsumugi being just a quiet background character without much impact - it's the big startling counterpoint that she's secretly the mastermind, compared to the more traditional tropes of the rest of the game; Tsumugi's reveal is what really blows the game wide open and makes you rethink the entire story thus far. I just personally think that there are ways they could've done it more effectively, to really give it that oomph.

so the first thing about writing sex scenes, imo, is that you have to embrace that sexiness, hotness, turn-ons, etc, are all personal. there is no universal sexy. the things that i think are hot in a sex scene might get neutral or negative responses from other people. and i don't just mean in a your-kink-is-not-my-kink way, i mean even little things like how kissing is described, the words used for body parts, pet names, dirty talk, etc. so the first rule of writing sex scenes is to free yourself from trying to cater to other people's tastes.
unless you're writing a gift for someone, lol. then you can think about their tastes, obviously. or like, in general, there's nothing wrong with being like ooooh my friends are gonna love this. but it's smut, for god's sake. free yourself and get horny* about it.
*a note on "get horny": maybe you are not a horny person. maybe you're ace, or find the horny part of the equation unrelatable for other reasons. in that case, free yourself and get creative. free yourself and let your characters get horny.
anyway. that being said. some thoughts on Crafting A Sex Scene.
the main complaint i tend to hear about sex scenes is that they feel generic, or predictable, or that (for sex scenes that are part of longer stories) they could be removed from the story and the story wouldn't lose anything. so as a writer i'm obviously like, okay, how do i make my sex scenes unique and engaging? there are only so many sex acts in the world, and and even smaller number that whatever set of idiots i'm writing about at a given moment would think of or be into. most sex scenes are going to be about the same handful of sex acts. we are all sisyphus pushing our horny boulders uphill trying to craft a good sex scene only to have to start from the bottom again the next time our characters want to fuck nasty. what is a poor writer to do?
well, the good news is that people have been finding the same handful of sex acts hot for like, several millennia now. this isn't to say don't branch out and get creative and/or kinky — please do! but also in my humble opinion you definitely don't have to think of new and exciting ways for people to have sex to write an engaging sex scene.
for me, the number one driving force in a sex scene is my point of view character. how are THEY experiencing the sex scene? i think about what they are noticing, feeling, wanting, etc. especially the noticing. if they're banging hottie mcbeefcake, "oh hottie mcbeefcake is so hot" isn't a really compelling or even hot description. what my pov character notices about their partner not only conveys the scene to the reader but tells us things about the pov character through what they're noticing: what do they find attractive, interesting, a turn-on? in what ways are they aware of their own body? how do they react to being touched? i try to branch off of the obvious things someone is probably seeing or feeling in a sex scene and zoom in on things that are specific to my character.
additionally, i think it's also important to know what your non-pov character(s) are thinking/feeling/wanting/etc. a lot of that might not make it onto the page, but it's really helpful for me in trying to write a scene that feels like distinct people interacting instead of bodies going through the sex motions.
speaking of the sex motions. i am huge advocate of that post (that you helpfully reblogged today) that's like "sex isn't sexy unless it's a little bit gross." because yeah! sex is gross!! don't shy away from the sweatiness and stickiness and squelching and hairiness (when applicable) because you're afraid it'll turn people off. sex is gross. that people do it in spite of the grossness (and sometimes to revel in the grossness) is part of the hotness. ymmv in terms of level of grossness, obvs, but grossness is part of sex. let it have its moments.
in addition to grossness: awkwardness. uncertainty. discomfort. imperfection. let your characters be human before, during, after sex. let them have to communicate to make the sex good. let them not communicate and let it cause problems. imo any/all of these things can be included and you can still have both hot sex and a good sex scene. you can (and should!) think about how consent is working in your sex scene, but you don't necessarily have to spell it out or have your characters have a whole-ass conversation about it. or maybe they do have a whole-ass conversation about it. totally depends on what is appropriate for your story, your characters, and the sex you want to write about.
more to the topic of generic/predictability, there's that joke about how all gay sex in fanfic is the exact same "one finger/two fingers/penis" penetrative sex scene, and like… well, it is a joke for a reason 🥴 not that there aren't good sex scenes that use that formula, but i feel like it's so ubiquitous that sometimes people write that as their sex scene by default, or because they know it's what's expected, as opposed to because they think it's the best way to write that sex scene. i'm not even going to get into the whole "not everyone wants/likes/needs to be fingered before anal sex" of it all; instead i am going to say that i think it's always worth (once again) thinking about your characters and the purpose of the sex scene within your larger character or story arc. for example, if the goal of the sex scene is to show an escalation in trust and intimacy, think about what trust and intimacy really mean to your characters and what different ways to show that are. we loooooove to let penetrative sex be shorthand for trust and intimacy — another thing i am not going to get into, and also, we all live in this wretched society, i'm not going to judge anyone for using penetrative sex as a shorthand for trust and intimacy. i've done it! i've read it and found it both moving and hot! if it works for your characters and your story, 100% go for it! but it doesn't have to be. and that's worth thinking about!
more to the skippableness: firstly, if you are simply writing smut for smut's sake, that's wonderful and i applaud you. carry on. if you're writing a sex scene as part of a longer story and you don't want it to feel skippable, i think the best way to go about that is to think about, as with any other scene, how that sex scene is moving the story forward — in more than just a "and now they've had sex" way. this is a lot of the character-driven/thinking about the filter of your pov character stuff from before, but also how does the sex change the stakes of the story? what do your characters learn about each other or themselves during the sex scene? the story shouldn't pause while they're boning.
this is getting uhhhh long now, so i will leave off with one more thing i think about when writing sex scenes, which is what i think of as the We All Know How Sex Works rule. which is basically, i'm allowed to gloss over things. some things i might describe in excruciating detail, but if i'm doing my job well, i do not have to describe every physical part of the sex for readers to follow the sex scene. readers are smart people. they'll get it.

If you ever feel weird for thinking about the hospital a lot, you're not weird. I feel like I'm in a similar boat, if not the same boat.
I have dreams about medical stuff, and it's usually just vague imagery like getting another CT or being connected to a heart monitor, but I once had a dream with a plot about the psychosis program I was in. It was its own wing of the hospital, and there was a recreation therapist who I really liked and a secretary who sucked at her job. Long story short, in the dream, I was stomping around the psychosis wing looking for the recreation therapist to see if she could help me somehow bc the secretary messed up scheduling me to see the doctor and I was mad about it.
I wish I had an explanation for this other than "Receiving healthcare can be traumatising and that trauma makes you fixate on what you went through"
I relate to this a lot. I also have recurring dreams about the hospital and the unit I stayed at. I can still hear the sound of the AC, the little beeping noises of the medical equipment, and so on. I think about the friends I made there and often wonder how they’re doing now. I fixate on this place pretty frequently.
I would definitely describe my hospitalization as traumatizing, not necessarily because of the care I received but because of the psychosis. I had a lot of really scary delusions and paranoid thoughts that led me to believe I or my family was in legitimate danger. It was quite terrifying and traumatic. And I agree, the trauma is likely what makes me fixate on this experience so much and relive in mentally over and over.
Ever since that experience I’ve been really interested in hospitals, hospital aesthetics, etc. I started making “hospitalcore” and menhera edits for a different blog. I also like to watch vlogs from mental health professionals on youtube to see what a typical day is like from their perspective. I journal about the hospital, I make art related to hospitals. Some people might find this kind of strange, or even unhealthy, but I honestly think it’s pretty therapeutic.

I'm keeping off some of the super spoilery ones off of here. Like who the final boss is.
If you have read any of my stories, you know that I changed up a lot of the worldbuilding. If you are wondering why I'm bringing up random country names and having women working at the Monstro Lounge, that's why.

Twisted from Yuu/The Player Character
She is a sassy and bold former popular mean girl, who became humbled after her ex cheated on her with another girl, but still has a lot to learn in order to become a better and more balanced person. She’s also quite ambitious, analytical and a quick planner. On the flipside, she’s secretive, untrusting, too cautious, manipulative, super guarded, even to the point of hiding shit from loved ones, is “in her head” too much, over thinks things and has some huge himedere tendencies due to coming from a wealthy family. She's also, obviously, the MC.

Her biggest flaw is that she can be petty and vindictive, not always thinking things through. Yeah drake goes a lot into things on the man enough podcast, but the things that really resonated with me was when he talked about how he felt undesirable and that nobody would want something "tainted" because that's almost exactly how I felt for a long time and I didn't even realize that until I heard him say those words.
Talking about how having people fawn over him while he was performing was good, it was nice, it made him feel like he was desirable, wanted, and for me personally mine wasn't really about being wanted sexually or feeling desirable in that way, but my trauma from my experiences manifested differently so I'm not saying Drake (or anyone else) is weird for maybe being a little more hypersexual, it's a common thing for CSA victims. I even had a stint of that before I realized I was ace.
And him admitting that he probably does have boundary issues makes sense, and it clicks because.. how are you supposed to have healthy boundaries when they were not had with you? Brian would take him out to fancy fine dining restaurants with -his- (brian's) friends... his friends, all these 40+ year old men.... all these people treating you like an adult, a peer, and everyone around you is not concerned and you have no reason to feel unsafe around people that have shown you no reason to feel unsafe.
Brian was so so so so good at manipulating everyone, but I'm really sus about those friends of his because if you... if you do that, if you go out with your friend and he's kinda flaunting (for lack of better words) this fifteen year old boy around... and you have nothing to say, yeah, you probably don't care what's happening or you also have those same interests.
Like people really really really really need to step back for a second and think about the fact that what we know about what Brian did is heinous and horrible, and disgusting and vile but what Drake knows about what Brian did... I think it's way worse than anything he's outwardly said and I think people treating this as "just SA" is... so horrible because it's not just that, it's the most horrific things you can do to anyone in this world, and they were done to a child... and calling it "not that big of a deal" or even trying to compare shit he's done and saying "he's basically turning into Brian" is so horrible when you think of all the stuff we do not know. "Unspeakable acts and crimes"
Thanks for sharing this, anon, I appreciate your perspective. Part of what makes Drake sharing his story so powerful is that even if the details are different, all CSA victims know what he's going through. We don't need to do deep dives and analyze everything in his discord or his career. We already get it.
I do want to acknowledge that he was tortured for the better part of a year, and what he specifically went through was horrific and should never have happened. That said, PTSD is more about how you process trauma than the "severity" of the trauma. People can go through "less" than what Drake did and can have even worse PTSD symptoms or vice versa. Victims often tell themselves (or hear from others) that what happened to them couldn't have been that bad because other people have experienced worse. This is not true. Regardless of the details, CSA in any form can impact all aspects of a person's life for a very long time. There is no such thing as "just SA" that is "not that bad".

So, I was watching this video about personality types that people develop as a childhood trauma response and I couldn't help but thinking of Ámbar because that's what my brain does kjsdfn. Hearing this information, I came to think that Ámbar has a mix of 'The Doer' personality and 'The Hostile' personality, being the first one more prominent in seasons 1 and two, with 'The Hostile' taking prominence in Season 3.
I won't write down everything because it would be too much-- Watch the video if you're interested-- but I will leave some extracts down below that resonated with me:
"The hostiles are very capable of actually softening if they want that. They have to see the hostility as a problem. But they won't soften if they don't see it as a problem and embrace this 'double down on who they are', which also happens too, unfortunately." (Ámbar in Season 3 claiming 'this is the real me and everyone will just have to deal with that.')
"A way for hostiles to become more present and authentic is doing work around softening, which, paradoxically, is exactly what the abuse was about: being labeled as weak, or soft, or not having any power. So that feels like kind of a 'no-go' zone for them but self-compassion that is taught by safe people helps soften a hostile whom they respect and trust."
"A hostile usually deals with their feelings from a hard anger place at front and detaches from childhood grief and sadness. (...) Hostiles really struggle with being loving. They might confuse control for love."
"In healing childhood trauma we can kind of shift to the opposites instead of center and find who we really are." -> Ámbar going from more of a 'doer' personality first and 'hostile' second, in which she wanted to ace everything and succeed so she would please Sharon and be popular but her way of doing things was always very aggressive and demeaning to others, to a 'hostile' personality first and 'doer' second, in which she embraced this 'Okay, if I'm the bad one of the story, I'll just do it upfront, I don't care what anyone thinks and I don't need them or their approval anymore'. She still has this goal of being the best at what she does and takes on a lot of work (being the manager of the Roller, organizing an Open in record time, organizing another event two weeks later) but this need for control falls into a secondary category where hostility is the main characteristic now.
"For treatment, I would encourage any of these personalities to become more real about their childhoods and find some anger about what happened to them and hold abusive parents accountable, like, you were kind of set up to both adapt this personality and miss out on developing what you were born with, and to become more real about what it was like growing up."
I think that Ámbar really shows she's on the journey of healing when she starts realizing that Sharon is the one in the wrong and starts comparing how she treats her versus how Mónica treats her, for example, and seeing that there are other ways that families can function and that adults can function. It's deeply sad that something as drastic as 1-Sharon lying to her about her identity, and 2- Sharon later abandoning her and fleeing the country, was what it took for Ámbar to finally stop mirroring her image and want to not be like her instead. It really comes to show how deeply ingrained some ideas and damage can be in someone when they come from family and it's all you've ever known.
It also puts her whole Season 3 Wears-All-Black persona in a new perspective because it can be seen as her lowest point in life, the moment where she's furthest from who she really is, but it very much could've been necessary for her to go through that phase, to embrace that anger and that part of herself, because it was a part of her that always existed but that she hid in order to be seen as perfect, which was a toxic unreachable standard she was holding herself to. In not denying the darkest parts of herself anymore, she could finally deal with it and where that anger and that sadness comes from, and eventually be able to find who she really is or wants to be within a mix of all the aspects of her personality.
Anyway, I think I talked too much, but I really love exploring Ámbar's character and applying any new information I find to her (and Simón) and so I wanted to share it with the fandom because you're the only ones who'll understand my brainrot 😂

I would like to invite you to talk a little more about that, if you wanna, because I would love to hear your thoughts. ♡

*Pulls out 3 hour long presentation I've had sitting in a folder labeled just in case.*
The short answer is: I love how much movement there is in the scene through the camera work. Also, how the camera work is used to reflect what's actually happening in the scene.
Yet because this is possibly my favorite scene in the finale, here's the LONG answer + bonus narrative analysis! ->
To recap, this is right after the veil. Nancy comes back to The Claw, saves Ryan's life, and soon after, the rest of the crew arrives. They discuss damage, casualties, and what's next. Nick and George are off to the youth center to open it as a shelter. Bess and Ace are going to empty the freezer and cook food for people.

Ace watches Bess and the others go, and immediately turns to Nancy: "We could use some help if you're up for it."
The important thing to note here is this is right after the veil. The last Ace interacted with Nancy, she told him to run from the veil ("I'm doing this for us, okay?") and right after, grabbed the front of his jacket, apologized in tears, and left. So he's definitely concerned!
Yet instead of being like "what happened back there at the veil?" he takes the I know Nancy route, and invites her to help him and Bess.
It's comparable to 3x01. There, Ace could tell Nancy was off. So when she says this:

He says, "I can help you carry it."
And it works! She accepts. Whereas he's asking if she literally wants help carrying it, it's also his way of saying "hey, I'm here if you want to talk." It gets them alone and leaves the decision to then talk up to Nancy (who we all know tends to not want to do that) (unless it's to Ace 😉).
But in the finale, that method does not work. Nancy does not want to talk. She shakes her head and tells him she's going with Nick and George instead.
In terms of the camera work here (gif below), it's incredibly quick. We jump from Ace, to Nancy saying no, to her grabbing the first aid kit and making a run for it.
It highlights how badly Nancy needs to get away from him. She just held him dead in her arms, found out that wasn't even real, came back to reality only to give him up to save the town, and now here she is at The Claw - needing to pretend none of that happened. Which is more or less impossible because she just experienced some of The Worst moments of her life.
Yet this time, Ace doesn't let her run.

Technically, this is uncharacteristic for him. He never pushes Nancy. He knows that only pushes her away. But this is really important. He also knows it involves him.

So Ace follows her into the back of The Claw. The camera as Ace follows Nancy is another example of how much movement there is in the scene.
We stay right behind him as he practically jogs after her. The camera is a bit shaky, and that highlights the lack of stability in the scene. He knows something's wrong (is probably panicking because of that). Nancy is incredibly upset (needing to get away so he doesn't see her cry, further proving that something is wrong).
Here's where we end up next, with Nancy in the back putting the first aid kit on a shelf. Maybe expecting Ace to not follow, she begins to let herself cry. She's alone now.

Which does not last. Ace arrives and as soon as she realizes that, she has to put all that emotion away.

Interesting to note here is that Ace wastes zero time before asking Nancy what's up. He needs to know, and maybe he's thinking if he doesn't hurry and ask, she'll slip away again.
What I like about this part is the camera is focused on Ace. Yet we can see Nancy too. Ace is focused on Nancy. The perspective doesn't change much from when Nancy puts the kit away and when Ace shows up. He's there that fast, so all she can do is turn to him. I think because of that, the way it's filmed feels personal. To stay with the idea of movement, we've moved with them. We're with Nancy, and then Ace shows up, and we see that from her perspective.

Since Nancy can't run, she gives him an answer. She hesitated because she's never killed someone.
For what it's worth, it's a decent attempt at an answer. Even if it's entirely a lie, as Nancy already killed Temperance once before in the future forecast. But in that sense, there's still truth to it because killing Temperance is something she struggled with in the forecast too.
To discuss perspective, we are now from Ace's. Nancy is now the one talking and Ace is the one listening. Yet look how close we are to Ace, basically at his shoulder. It still feels personal. This entire scene is very personal for them. The camera is still not steady. Even as Nancy gives her explanation, she's starting to move away from him. She's talking fast too, sniffling as she does. There's an urgency here, just like there is in the entire scene.
The second she's said what she needs to, Nancy leaves. She doesn't give him a chance to ask follow-up questions or even respond.
She pushes past him as she leaves, and the camera responds to that.

The camera pushes back as she pushes past Ace. The perspective ends lower and further back than where it started. This distance works in contrast to the moment prior, where we were very close to Nancy and Ace. This shows how alone Ace is. Literally alone because Nancy is gone, and also figuratively as he has no idea what's going on.
I'll also point out that Ace does not move. So much of this scene is movement because the camera is following them. Jumping from Ace to Nancy, the walk to the back room, Nancy leaving, etc.
Now, he's still as the camera moves without him. The camera moving shows the tension isn't gone, but Ace is now at a loss. His attempt to talk to Nancy failed because all he got was a lie (or half-truth). He can't follow her as he knows she's upset. Following her would further upset her, increase the emotional distance between them, etc. He's doing the right thing in letting her go.
As the scene ends on this new angle, he just looks smaller. He looks helpless. He's left to contemplate what just happened, and we don't learn his conclusion until a month later during the famous Apartment Scene. (Where he blames himself, completely unaware of the moth curse via great aunt).
But to wrap things up and return to the point, I don't know that Nancy Drew is a show with a ton of noticeable camera work in every episode. Or maybe it's just that I've only recently started paying attention to it. I'm no expert lol, but I will say 3x13 is a very standout episode.
Another good 3x13 example is after the car crash. How the camera goes low to show Temperance towering over Nancy. Temperance is powerful, and she is in control.

There's also the odd angle (a disoriented feeling after the crash combined with the realization this is not reality). That's in addition to the (not pictured) close-ups on Nancy's face. Getting close and personal highlights how distraught she is.
With Nancy Drew, if there's episodes with cool camera work, there's a good chance Larry Teng directed. Recently when I rewatched 1x17, I was all of ten seconds in when I realized it reminded me of 3x13. And no surprise! Larry Teng directed that one too.
So I feel like it's one thing to just film what's happening, but another entirely to use the camera to emphasize emotions/the story itself. 3x13 is just a perfect example of that, and that's interesting to me.
