Are you normal or do you take an existing character in a franchise and, because you want to be in the story so badly, you write them as a self insert character.

Selina, dressed as Morticia Addams: Ah, my fated one, this season fills me with such wicked joy. It reminds me of the day you asked me to be your wife.
Bruce, dressed as Gomez Addams: Or that time Alfred let me burn all those old Batmobiles.
Duke, dressed in a Lord of the Rings cosplay: Get a room!
Selina: Duke, you're supposed to wear a Halloween costume.
Duke: But I really like being an elf. And it's better than Damian's costume.
Bruce: Why? What's Damian wear—
Damian, wearing Bruce's oversized coat: I am Father for Halloween.
Bruce, choking up: It's perfect.
Duke, muttering: Suck up.
Stephanie, entering dressed as Jack Skellington: Hey guys! Are you ready to pull off people’s thumbs for Halloween?
Cassandra, dressed as Sally: Yay, thumbs!
Barbara, dressed as a pumpkin: She means trick or treat.
Kate, watching: Alfred, they do know it's October 6th, right?
Alfred: Try telling them that. Or try telling it to—
Dick, dressed as Harley Quinn: HAPPY HALLOWEEN, NERDS!
Jason, dressed as Deadpool: Yeah, Halloween!
Tim, dressed as Robin: Yeah, nerds!

Picture this exact scene: (John Wick x reader, reader is described to have a specific aesthetic, vibe and look, size and predator kink mentioned, brat taming mentioned, nsfw?, written in a moment of inspiration so not proof-read).
John.
Your handsome, scary, tall and big John.
Your boyfriend, older boyfriend.
And You: a young, maybe a bit too crazy hit-woman who entered the business a few years ago. (Giving off a non-cringy Harley Quinn vibe, if you get what I mean)
Winston loves you, he treats you like a daughter. He thinks you are beautiful, and deadly.
They call you…Poison.
Sweet little thing, you are: short, petite. You always dress in hyper feminine, yet seductive clothes. Like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You are cocky, flirty, scandalous almost. You talk back, you are strong and deadly. You love yourself, your skills, your power.
You’re such a brat.
But when you are alone with The Boogeyman? You’re such a good girl. He makes you weak on your knees, how could he not? Look at him!
He’s mean: biting, spitting, spanking. He adores you, his princess. He’s going to make you his wife soon. He loves how you take him, how you obey, how you like to be tied up and just…used for his pleasure.
But.
But.
One day, something changes: you decide you want to step the line. You want to have fun, to see how far your Babayaga could go.
And so, the dynamic changes into…well, this:
Tumblr media
“Sweetheart, why am I tied up?”
He asks, his russian accent evident. His tone of voice seems calm and collected, as if he knows he’s not in a dangerous situation.
You, by the other end, just giggle. You had gotten all dolled up for him: a tight cocktail dress hugged your body, paired with black stockings and heels. A nice red fur-coat left was on a chair, with your vintage Moschino heart shaped bag that John had gifted you on your birthday.
You bite your red tinted lips as you walk closer.
“You look beautiful, babygirl”
The hit-man compliments you, his chocolate brown eyes scanning your delicious body.
He was like a wolf, ready to chase and devour his rabbit.
“Thank you, daddy!” You exclaim, twirling for him. God, you were a dream coming true. A lustful dream.
“You still haven’t answered my question, doll”
“I wanted to have some fun”
“Some fun?” He lifts his brow up. “We have a lot of fun together already, don’t you think baby?”
Only then you sit on his lap, his big muscular thighs were feeling tense. He wasn’t used to something like this.
“You are the one who has all the fun, can I have some fun too?” You faked an innocent tone: John was always the dom in your relationship. You loved it, obviously, you just wanted to piss him off. You adored when he tried to tame you.
“Are you scared you might like being the submissive one, will it hurt your ego?” You obviously tease him, and only then you feel a hand wrapped around your throat.
He has little patience.
It happened in a matter of nanoseconds, literally. How the fuck is he able to do that?
He had freed himself from the knot that had him tied up to the chair since you entered the room.
“Babygirl…”
Oh, shit.
Shit.
You’re screwed.
He sounds angry, his rich baritone making you shiver.
“You really think you can play with me? Tying me to a chair like I’m some kind of rookie?”
A cruel laugh, his lips brushing against your ear.
“Start running, babygirl. You are going to fucking regret what you did tonight”.

Since you’ve been doing a fair amount of Batman posting, mind if you list your favorite members of the Gotham Rouges?
Okay. I’ll list about 10 of my faves, though we’ll be counting backwards here.
Also I'll be listing the variations of my faves whom I like the most to make things clearer.
Tumblr media
Number 10. Poison Ivy (B:TAS) - If we're talking about character alone, this is the blueprint for literally every present day version of Poison Ivy, however this specific incarnation of the character has aged pretty well. She's every bit the dangerous eco-warrior that she makes herself out to be and will gladly turn someone into a tree for bulldozing a forest, but there is still a level of humanity to her character much like half the villains in the show.
Tumblr media
Number 9. Mr. Freeze (B:TAS & Batman Beyond) - I feel like this is a "to the surprise of absolutely nobody" moment, but come on! Mr. Freeze here not only was made into a more tragic character compared to his early comic counterpart, but he actually had a whole arc across the entirety of B:TAS which ended at Batman Beyond. Victor Fries was a scientist trying to save his wife, Nora, from a rare disease, so he put her into a cryopod to preserve her until he found a cure. Then he and Nora were almost killed, but Nora was still kept on ice, while Victor got turned into a literal cold hearted monster. Even after Nora was finally cured, Victor was forever unable to be with her due to his own condition worsening to the point where he was just a head in a jar, angry with the world. A couple of decades later, and he is given a new body by the Wayne Powers CEO, Derek Powers, and while things were finally going well at first and Victor was reforming as soon as he had the chance, things went horribly wrong again, resulting in Victor dying as Mr. Freeze. I may have missed some details here, but yeah that's a summary of this sad ice man.
Tumblr media
Number 8. Dr. Crane/Scarecrow (Nolan Trilogy) - Crane wasn't a big villain in the grand scheme of the trilogy, but my god Cillian Murphy does a great job with the character. Like I wish that his supervillain outfit wasn't just a bag over his face, but Scarecrow manages to be quite the dangerous loon with a mask of sanity in Batman Begins, an active member of the underworld in The Dark Knight, and the guy actively sending folks to their deaths in The Dark Knight Rises. Could we have had more of him? Yes. Did he use up his screen time well? Absolutely. Though his fear toxin could've been infinitely wilder.
Tumblr media
Number 7. The Phantasm (B:TAS but movie) - The Phantasm is the literal best darker counterpart to Batman a lot of levels.
Tumblr media
Number 6. Harley Quinn (B:TAS yet again) - The minor side villainess turned breakout character of the show. If anyone has seen B:TAS and then seen the rest of the media she's in, then you know why this is the best version of her. A good amount of things about the character being based around her actress (R.I.P Arleen Sorkin), her interactions with half the cast, Peak HarIvy content, the best representation of how bad her situation with her abusive ex was, and the perfect mixture between being a not-so-great-person and a precious lil' thing who deserves better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Number 5. Harvey Dent, Two-Face, & The Judge (B:TAS) - The first well developed Two-Face, and the definitive. I mean he was never a bad villain, but the character was never utilized to the fullest like he was in B:TAS. Harvey Dent was a good guy with an other half that was the literal manifestation of his bottled up anger, an anger that turned into something else entirely after the left side of his face got blown off. Now Harvey and his other half start their own crusade to eradicate organized crime by taking it over from within. In other words, Two-Face here wanted to originally wanted to achieve something good through something bad, and yes a lot of it is due to a fair coin flip. However Harvey began to disagree with some of the shit his other half was getting up to, and as a result developed a third personality that was so separate from both himself and Two-Face that it tried killing both of them and, by extension, himself. This third entity would end up being The Judge, a ruthless, wraith-like vigilante with a judge's attire. So after being detained in Arkham for good, all three Harvey's are literally stuck with each other, and in a spin-off comic set directly after that whole situation with The Judge, Two-Face was given another double headed coin that would constantly come up on the "good side," and spent a lot of time dismantling his criminal enterprise, before doing (another) suicide attempt. This take on Two-Face was something else.
Tumblr media
Number 4. Oswald Cobblepot (Gotham) - If I were to list everything that this smug snake has done, along with some of the shit that happened to him, we'd be here all day. However, this is the most well characterized iteration of The Penguin that we've ever had, in my humble opinion.
Tumblr media
Number 3. Catwoman (Batman Returns) - I'm dying on this hill gentlemen. Despite not being... anything like her comic counterpart, outside of name, confidence, etc, Michelle Pfeiffer's Selina is something great in her own right.
Tumblr media
Number 2. The Riddler (The Batman 2022) - Turning the Riddler into a a catholic, terrorist, cult leader that looked up to a young and angry Year-Two Batman, while also keeping the core elements of his character the same is something I'll never stop praising. He's still intelligent, he's still creative, he's still on the verge of breakdowns when his ego is badly damaged, etc.
Tumblr media
Number 1. The Joker (B:TAS & Batman Beyond) - This is a "to the surprise to absolutely nobody" moment, though in this case I cannot be blamed. B:TAS understood the assignment and provided the definitive iteration of The Joker, completely inspired by his early comic appearances and some elements from Jack Nicholson's take on the character. An ex-mafiosi turned Clown Prince of Crime that lives to only spread misery across Gotham in the most creative way possible with a smile on his face. That was the idea that Paul Dini and Bruce Timm ran with when conceptualizing this bastard, and they just explored the concept for all its worth. Not only that, but this was the first time that Mark Hamill ever voiced this bastard, and it was just perfect casting. Overall, nostalgia got me to re-examine this take on the character, and I can easily say that without a doubt, this is the best Joker.

Smiles are far away (Tears are here)
(I don't know English, so if something seems strange, it's Google Translate's fault) There's a story, more like an idea, gnawing at my brain and fighting to get out. What if Harleen Quinzel was related to the Fentons? Anyone who has ever seen an image of Delia Quinzel, Harleen Quinzel's sister, may have noticed some characteristics in common between her and Jack Fenton, that is, black hair and blue eyes. What if the accident with the first portal, during college, had affected the Fentons too, just in a different way than Vlad, and they had become unable to have children because of it? What if Harleen Quinzel, before starting to work at Arkham, had gone to a club, at the encouragement of colleagues, to take a break from her studies and relax a little? What if Bruce Wayne, before leaving Gotham to train, had coincidentally gone to the same club with his then-girlfriend, Dana, and they had gotten into a fight and split up? What if Harleen and Bruce had met and had sex? What if Harleen had discovered weeks later that she was pregnant and Bruce had already left? What if Harleen had hidden the pregnancy from everyone and carried on with her normal routine until the summer holidays, when she left to stay with her cousin Jack and his wife, Maddie, until she gave birth? What if she had handed over the baby, a girl, to them? What if they named the baby Jasmine Aileen Fenton? What if Harleen Quinzel's survival and 'rebirth' as Harley Quinn, after being thrown into a vat of chemicals, had only been possible due to her stay with the Fentons during her pregnancy and consequent exposure to the ectoplasm they carelessly handled? What if, in the crazed lovebirds' first few months together, while Jocker was momentarily in Arkham, Harley had, unexpectedly, gone into labor after going through a silent pregnancy? What if she left the baby, too small, too quiet, too fragile, on the Fentons' doorstep, convinced they would appreciate another child? What if the Fentons named him Daniel James Fenton? What if years later Red Hood was approached by two individuals, one male, the other female, dressed entirely in white, wearing theater masks, and identifying themselves as Pierrot and Columbine?

So I’ve been listening to lots of podcasts at work lately to break up the monotony of my office job. Mainly they’re horror, suspense/thriller, drama, that kind of thing. Trying to give ratings without spoilers~
(Check out updated pod recs here)
The Left Right Game (a journalist investigating an urban legend that gets increasingly more dangerous as they go): 5/5, this being one of the first ones I listened to set the bar really high tbh, it was great, immersive sound design, genuinely suspenseful and creepy moments, interesting plot, my only gripe is that I didn’t love the ending but I couldn’t dock a star just for that, highly recommend, maybe I’ll retire to Wintry Bay someday
Alice Isn’t Dead (delivery trucker goes searching for her believed dead wife, comes across supernatural towns and creatures and a conspiracy that goes way deeper than one missing woman): 5/5, so so good, enjoyed a lot, I loved learning the truth about the Thistle men, still don’t completely understand oracles but that’s okay, some delightfully creepy moments, this will be high on my recommendation list (also it’s by the Welcome to Night Vale people, which I actually haven’t listened to lmao)
Harley Quinn and the Joker: Sound Mind (it’s a Harley Quinn origin story basically): 5/5, very enjoyable, sound design great, plot was fun, I don’t know how accurate this story is to the original Harley Quinn origin story but I liked this a lot
The Burned Photo (two women try to fight a familial curse haunting their bloodlines): 4/5, not bad at all, I thought the sound design was great and immersive but I thought the monster’s voice was a bit goofy idk, the plot wasn’t bad though ofc it was pretty bittersweet and sad in the end, tho I think it was never going to be happy for everyone involved
Blackwood (group of teens investigate the town urban legend and uncover more than they bargained for): I can’t decide…3.5 maybe? It was okay. I didn’t love it or hate it, I’m pretty neutral about it. It was interesting enough
Gaslight (girl goes missing and then reappears to her best friend years later with little explanation): 3/5, feels like there should be another season, wasn’t as dramatic/suspenseful as I thought it would be (maybe that’s my own fault tho, from the description and stuff I thought there would be more to it)
Ice-Cream (teens suspect the friendly neighborhood ice cream man of abducting little kids and uncover a dark secret): 4.5/5, interesting and a lil creepy, there’s something oddly funny about hearing someone scream “fuck you Beelzebub” even in context, sound design is pretty good and voice acting is great, finale was also pretty good but I’m docking half a star bc of that very last bit and bc I said so, overall short n’ sweet, no pun intendo (I’m kinda glad that it’s only the one season and not super long, gives the feeling of not overstaying its welcome. Also in awe that they made it within like a month, gonna go listen to their other podcast Cascadia too)
Cascadia (submarine expedition to uncharted waters, gone wrong, we almost died!?): 5/5, by the Ice-Cream people so I expected great sound design and voice acting and said expectations were met tbh, yes god love the drama, ocean depths are inherently scary to me so this is top tier horror, season one was chef’s kiss beautiful and I heard season 2 is coming so I’ll be waiting eagerly for that
Listening now:
Within the Wires (season 1 is relaxation cassette tapes from another world, season 2 is a guided museum tour I think): also by the WTNV people, interesting so far, the plot that unfolded in the first season was cool to watch as it played out, but also I am so sad. I like it so far
Rabbits (girl goes searching for her friend who disappeared because of this mysterious Rabbits game): feels like a really slow start after a few episodes, I kinda wanna get to more action soon please
Wake of Corrosion (apocalypse where characters are trying to find other survivors and also answers): mild shrug, not sure what to make of it just yet. Only like 2 episodes in so I think I need to give it a bit
Ars Paradoxica (scientist accidentally invents time travel and is thrown back to the 1940s): pretty interesting so far, science is fun
Spoiler comment for Cascadia under the cut bc it's the one I just finished and I have Thoughts
As much as I enjoyed Cascadia, when I think about the expedition for more than 2 seconds I get confused. Not the whole alien thing, that’s fine, it’s Badger and Maria and their ulterior motives. Why in the world did Badger spend millions of dollars to make a submarine that’s faulty on purpose? And there was so much media coverage around it so the second something went wrong reporters were practically beating him over the head with microphones, so why risk so much bad press? Plus sacrificing three other talented divers who trusted him with their lives??? That’s the most confusing to me. There’s no way Badger foresaw them getting attacked underwater and losing Declan alone, so he must have been fully prepared to lose captain AND crew. Holden said that he saw Badger as a father, and yet he chose Holden to die? He said he handpicked them, so what did Holden, Alia, or Iris ever do to him to deserve being sent on a suicide mission? Doing all this just to get rid of Declan and be with Maria doesn’t feel right. Feels like there should be something more there. Tldr: surely Badger had another reason for conducting the suicide mission, right? Also since season 2 starts with Lila all grown up, a diver just like her father, I wanna know her opinions of her mother and of Badger. Did she learn about her mother’s betrayal? Is Badger still involved in funding deep sea diving or did the FBI take him out of that? Omg who’s the father of her little sibling…I’m so curious…

Gotham Knights: Villains
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talia al Ghul: As the daughter of Ra's Al Ghul, she was raised to be the League of Shadows' second-in-command, and has been fiercely loyal to their cause since childhood. Growing up within the League, she has come to see people as chess pieces to be manipulated, though there was a brief time when another path seemed possible. In hindsight, our brief relationship was a mistake. I should have known she would never betray her father by leaving the League. In recent years, Talia has grown resentful of her father for passing her over as his replacement. Ra's al Ghul: One of my oldest and most dangerous enemies. The leader of the League of Shadows, Ra's always believed that humanity needs to be reset, free of the corruption infecting society for the last thousand years. He has killed countless innocents in pursuit of this goal. He is hundreds of years old thanks to the supernatural effects of the Lazarus Pit. Ra's is not immortal and has been obsessed with the idea that I replace him at the head of the League, despite our rivalry. In recent years he seems to be losing himself, becoming more volatile and losing his sense of purpose. This is likely due to his repeated exposure to the Lazarus Pit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr. Freeze: Victor Fries is a brilliant scientist with an unfortunate condition that requires his body to operate at sub-zero temperatures. As Mr. Freeze, he is one of my oldest adversaries. He long promised he would reform once he found a cure for his wife Nora's condition. However, after her recovery she rejected him because of the atrocities he committed in her name. Now, he seems to be headed down a very dark path. I'm working to develop an antidote for his condition, but until he accepts responsibility for his actions, he will never truly be cured.. Clayface: Basil Karlo was once an actor, but his delusions of grandeur and his ego lead him into a life of crime. I was unable to save Karlo from the accident that turned him into the criminal known as Clayface, and he has held a personal grudge against me ever since. His anger and his ability to mold his body into any shape have made for a dangerous combination in our past encounters. The last time we faced off, Karlo fell to his death, having been torn apart by a turbine. I couldn't stop it. Karlo may have hated me, but he never deserved a violent end. Clayface's motivations are simple. Vengeance. He's a spiteful person who has gone from being a burgeoning actor to be a disgraced criminal.
Tumblr media
Harley Quinn: Harley's incredibly agile and uses her acrobatic kicks and flips mixed with a massive sledgehammer to fight through anything in her way. Determined and incredibly stubborn, Harley's got an innate sense of her own abilities and will never stop. Previously Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a rising star in the field of psychology, she turned to a life of crime and feeding on the chaos it offered. She worked with my worst enemy for some time before going her own way. Harley has recently shown signs that she is interested in rehabilitation, and I want to believe she is capable of it. I have recruited her to assist me with something on my latest case, something she is uniquely qualified to help with. My hope is that she will get a taste of the good she can do and that may help her turn over a new leaf.

Harley Quinn adjusts to the status quo while still maintaining most of its charm - REVIEW Season 4 Ep 1-3
Tumblr media
*Spoilers for all of the Harley Quinn show*
Harley Quinn is a show that continues to impress me with its swings and devotion to beloved characters. I would say this is one of if not my favorite DC Universe. You can have fun portrayals of classic characters that feel authentic, and you can have the Joker become the Mayor.
Going into season 4, I was a bit skeptical about the idea of Harley joining the Bat-Family. The concept itself is fun, but the Bat Family, particularly Barbara and Nightwing, have not been my favorite interpretations of the characters.
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong, I love Harvey Guillén, but this Nightwing is too uptight. And Batgirl remains too fangirly for my taste. Nonetheless, having Harley trying to figure out Batting and having a day out with Alfred was probably my favorite episode.
"I wish a bitch would try" from Alfred likely got the biggest laugh from me. It is rather unfortunate to me that Alfred will not be a part of that story any longer, as he get imprisoned at the end of episode 2.
Tumblr media
So far the Bat Fam/Harley parts of each episode has been the main draw for me. Harley trying to figure out the superhero game while likely making fun of superheroes has comedic potential.
I really like that the central struggle of the season is Harley & Ivy needing to figure out the new work life balance. I think a lesser show would've had them break up for Harley even considering being a hero, or have both of them become heroes.
Now we have two coinciding stories that will eventually have to come to a head: The Bat Family vs The Legion of Doom.
Tumblr media
While many of the Ivy jokes in the workplace were funny, I do think Ivy needed more characters to bounce off of. I think pairing Ivy with Nora Fries is an excellent choice. While it took me a while, I have taken a liking to Nora. The idea of Mr. Freeze's beloved wife being a real asshole and incredibly obnoxious gets funnier and funnier to me by the season.
Tumblr media
Bringing in King Shark in IT and doing more with Bane to flesh out her entourage seems like a winning strategy. I'm sure in time the Ivy storyline will draw me in more.
Also introduced in these episodes is Talia Al Ghul, who I assume will be the big bad of the season. I like her having a foot in both Ivy and Harley's world, manipulating both the Bat Family and Ivy for her own ends.
Also just the bit of her not knowing how old her son is or how to raise a child kills me.
Tumblr media
While some fan favorites are missed for me, like Batman and Joker, what I really miss is the group dynamic. King Shark is off having kids, Clayface is now working in Vegas, and with Harley and Ivy both working their new jobs, the show feels very split.
Tumblr media
I fell in love with the show due to these unlikeable secondary characters becoming a villainous crew. I hope the all join forces once again somehow. But narratively, I understand why there's a split.
Overall, I think this season has a lot of potential and had a solid start. While I wasn't as drawn in as I have been before, I think there's definitely a lot of room for this to wow me. And if there's anything I've learned from three seasons and a Valentine's Day special of Harley Quinn, it's trust the writers, sit back and relax. The show is in good hands.

10 fandoms, 10 characters, 10 tags
Basic rules: choose 10 fandoms that you are part of/support, and choose a favorite character from each of those. Then, tag ten folks!
Tagged by: @dragonsongmakhali and @thefreelanceangel (thanks! I get around to tagged things eventually, lmao)
This isn't in any particular order, they're just in whatever order they came to mind! I'll also note that I've never really understood the concept of 'being in a fandom'? I just...like the thing? So I guess this is more like "A handful of my all time favorite characters, many of whom went on to inspire me to write similar OCs whether I realized it at the time or not." Anyways, I wax verbose on this, so...buckle up, and thanks ahead of time if you decide to read it all!
I'll go through my recent notifications to tag some folks who've interacted lately (also thanks, I've been very ill and out of it for what feels like months now...) @ashenbun, @the-sycophant, @eorzeanflowers, @iron-sparrow, @briar-ffxiv, @merlwybs-wife, @but-first--tea, @sundered-souls, @superbolided, @ahollowgrave
1. Harley Quinn, Batman
What's not to love? She's quirky, she's (incredibly) smart, she's bi, and she's just one of many female characters I love for being flawed, but better for it! She's dealing with mental illness, and feels like only this one person understands her - and having been wrapped around a narcissist's finger before? I get it. You don't realize they're a piece of shit until...one day you do, or one day your friends get through to you that this is unhealthy, and you're not really yourself around this person. I love that she gets to be her own character these days, and live her own life, and do what she wants to do (when she figures that out) - I actually love that she works more and more with the Batfam in recent material because...she was never a villain. She's always been chaotic neutral! She changed who she was for the Joker, and was always miserable and mistreated no matter how hard she tried to be exactly who and what he wanted (a mewling servant) - and more often than not, even when she did what she thought he wanted, he still punished and humiliated her (like when she almost killed Batman). Bruce has LONG been on Harley's side, and long tried to talk some sense into her...but I think they'd been 'at odds' for too long for his words to get through to her, and it took the initial mutual compassion (and eventual love) shared between her and Pamela for someone's 'get the fuck out' speech to finally sink in. And now she's a fully realized character/woman with her own goals, her own personality, her own style... and if people don't like that she can do crime AND do good stuff alongside the Batfam? They can fuck off - at least, I imagine she'd say that, tbh. It's her choice - she never wanted what the Joker wanted. She just wanted him to notice her. Now she can act on her whims, and live in the moment and live up to her fullest potential! (Plus, while I'm not Jewish, I love that she is! At least in most iterations that I've seen.)
I think 'hurt people hurt people' is another good tagline for her - because the instant she's shown real compassion...be it from Bruce-outside-the-suit, or Poison Ivy? You can see her heart. You can see the sweet, and loving person she is under all the performing...or 'masking', you might say. The tragic clown doesn't need your laughter... they need your compassion. They need you to listen.
Tumblr media
2. Mackayla Lane, The Fever Series (I've read this series at least 6 times, and recommend you read it, too!)
Mackayla is a self-centered, pink-loving, girly-girl who doesn't think heavy thoughts - she likes to sunbathe, paint her nails, and enjoy lazy southern days by the pool, when she's not working part time as a bartender. Until her sister is murdered on a trip abroad, and in her fervor to find out what happened - and why it feels like nothing is being done about it - she picks up and goes to Ireland in search of clues her own damn self...and finds out about this whole hidden legacy of the Sidhe, Sidhe-Seers, and why/how she and her sister are tied into this world. It's such an emotional journey! She evolves into someone different a few times throughout this journey of grief, self-discovery, and...eventually, love. She learns to be more introspective, to be more aware of those around her, to look deeper in herself for strength, so as to never be a damsel in distress again - she fights furiously for a sister we never get to see alive. (and I love a good story about a character central to the plot who is dead before the story even begins, tbh.) She goes from someone I'd roll my eyes at, to someone I'd look up to, instead. She learns to be fierce, but not to lose her compassion in doing so. She learns to fight for not just herself, but others. She suffers, and it breaks her for a time - but she comes out of it stronger for it. She doesn't let it hold her down, anymore - she can't afford to, doesn't want to...she wants to fight back.
I love character development, and she's got it in spades...and that's not even touching on all the OTHER amazing characters around her in this series. Also, if you like a spicy slow-burn, this is it. 'Begrudging allies to lovers' is how I'd term it, I suppose. (I still long for a high production value show of this series...especially bc it would appeal to all kinds of people - it even goes post-apocalyptic later on! But not for the usual reasons.)
Tumblr media
3. Margo Hanson, The Magicians (The show, not the books, for once)
Feminist icon without being 'cringe' about it - and has a line I love, later on, about how her father told her she could be anything she wanted...until she wanted to be those things. Suddenly, the world wanted her to pick - you can't be strong AND womanly; 'you can't have both,' they told her. And she said 'Fuck You', and did it anyways. She is impossibly strong, but even she feels deeply on the inside. She rarely, if ever, lets it show how heavy the weight of the world is...she just shoulders on, and does the things no one else will do. She stands up for what's right, and now and then she fucks things up, too...because she's only human. But she's never apologetic about who she is. She lives out loud, owns her body, owns her opinions, and the rest of the world better get the fuck out of her way, because she's got a witty one-liner...and a gun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. John Constantine, Hellblazer/DC Comics (An anti-hero I love, a rare bi-disaster MAN in media, and my favorite occultist/wizardy person in fiction, I think...besides Margo.)
He's an alcoholic/addict, he's a wet rag, and he's basically the world's best occultist... whether you love him or hate him. (I love bisexuals getting the spotlight in media, so it's nice that he's that, too!) He's a rat bastard who's just trying to get by in a world that's chewed him up and spit him out time and time again - he drinks the pain away, he chases death, and...despite his best efforts, he lives. Because anytime he actually comes close to death, he realizes that it's all worth fighting for, actually - even if he always falls off the path again. Notably, neither he nor Harley Quinn were really supposed to be longstanding characters...and now they're both fully fleshed out people, and a couple of my favorites! I like that he's complex, mentally ill, and still tries to do what's right, most of the time. But the world pushes his hand, and something's got to give, and unfortunately it's usually the people around him who end up paying the price...which doesn't mean that he doesn't carry that guilt for the rest of his life, mind you. But the world itself was saved! ...though he'll never not regret the harm it causes the few people he lets close, and how it then causes so many others to avoid him like the plague, as they assume he's just a shit who will sacrifice his friends at the drop of a hat. He's the reluctant savior. The...anti-hero? I'm not even sure that's right, because he does want to do good. He just... does some fucked up things to achieve that good, because there's often genuinely no other way - and no one else has the fortitude or the know-how to do it but him. So he'll carry that load, so others don't have to. He'll smoke it away, drink it away...anything he has to, to quiet the guilt, and shame of saving the world from the shadows...never being thanked for it, because he doesn't fly around in spandex, or drive a fancy animal-themed car.
Also, his Hellblazer comics are very politically left leaning and he shits on Tories and racists and homophobia, etc. He might hide his pain in ways that make him seem like a piece of shit, but at heart he knows what's right, and that his fellow man deserves better. (Also, it's implied that he slept with/dated King Shark...you go, king.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Dracula, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Castlevania (first the game, then the show) I was obsessed with the book even as a kid, and when I saw the most iconic scene in a video game ever, I was in love with his Castlevania counterpart, too.
Not much else to add to this one - I just think he's cool! I love vampires! I love Mina, as well, for all the strength she shows in the face of almost-certain-doom...but I love a good villain, and Dracula is the perfect villain. Also, it turns out the whole book might just have been one big, gay metaphor from a man in the closet! That's pretty cool to find out, after all these years. I do love the backstory from the film of him being SO IN LOVE with his wife that he cursed God and just...became a vampire. Because 'I fought in your crusades and you let the woman I love kill herself? Fuck you, I'm just never going to die. Now I'll kill all your beloved humans!' Castlevania's backstory is similar enough that I enjoy both iterations of it - a man driven to madness by love, and loss...and in Castlevania, it's not even his FAULT he keeps getting summoned back, which is where this scene below even comes from, which kinda cracks me up. He specifically points out what pieces of shit humans are...they say they hate him, but it's humans who always summon him back to do THEIR dirty work.

6. Taimi, Guild Wars 2
When you first meet her, she's a bobble headed child prodigy, even among the incredibly intelligent race of Asura, with big hair and an even bigger pink bow on her head - who has a terminal illness, and a physical disability from it that makes it hard for her to walk...but it never stops her. Not even once. Commander might be a badass, but they'd be nothing without Taimi's vast intelligence saving the world time and again - and you almost have to watch her die! She loses her favorite mech, which is both a walking apparatus and her best friend, and goes on to lose her best friend/love interest...and the pain never breaks her. She's a literal child, a teen/young adult by current story - and the endurance and compassion and strength she shows are just...making me emotional to even write about. And while she's still alive in story at present (and they've aged her up over time!)... we discussed with her not that long ago in story how she is dying - and she feels the pressure to get as much done as she can before that day. But one day, she won't be with us anymore...and despite all the people that Commander has lost? I'll never be ready to lose my little rat-daughter.
Go play Guild Wars 2.
Tumblr media
7. Jaina, World of Warcraft
You meet her as a young woman, in Warcraft - an idealist who believes in peace, and stands against the open, and blatant racism against the Orcs, and the Horde. She strives for this peace so hard that she allows her own father to be executed - and for years, she stands with the Horde, and speaks on their behalf and fights for peace...until those same people go out of their way to not just screw her over, but almost kill one of the only family members she has who accepts her, and steal an ancient artifact that could basically just wipe out the Alliance much like the bomb that was used to wipe out the whole city she was in charge of. She suffers from the guilt of not trying harder to help Arthas. She suffers so...so much guilt, for so many things. She isn't perfect, and she has acted out of hurt, and rage at times - but she grows, and learns, and becomes this whole person comprised of beautiful flaws and complexities. I know what it's like to have your friends betray you, and want to burn it all down. I know what it's like, to need years to come to terms with that hurt. I know the pain of years and years of guilt and self-loathing and 'what-if's'. Jaina has become an amazing woman who has helped people, hurt people, and learned both difficult, and beautiful lessons along the way, to become an ultimately better person who still believes in the rights of all people...just with less of that youthful naivete that got her so hurt and blindsided.
Tumblr media
8. Ahsoka, Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I put off watching Clone Wars, and thought I wouldn't like how they worked Ahsoka in...and boy was I ever wrong. Finally, at long last, there's a female character who is given as thorough a Jedi treatment as Luke, or Anakin...if not better! I love analyzing the 'family lineage' of which Jedi mentors which, and it's a bit funny how Qui-Gon was a rule-breaker paired with Obi-Wan-the-rule-lover...and then he ended up with a padawan even more about going against the grain, because Qui-Gon was supposed to have 'raised' Anakin, himself - then Anakin ends up with a Padawan in an attempt to teach him about how to move on from loss...because all padawans grow up and move on with their lives, one day - but he ended up with someone just as hard-headed and outspoken and out-going as him, and he got a taste of what it was like to be his master! All that said, Ahsoka grows and develops and learns hard lessons, and...grows up as a child soldier in a war the Jedi never should have been a part of, anyways - and (spoilers) when she goes on to be wrongfully accused of a crime by the Jedi Council...they try to walk it back later by saying 'oh this was clearly a test by the Force and you've passed, hooray promotion'. Ahsoka is having none of it. It's hypocrisy. It's a lie. They can't put their own pride aside, and admit that they were wrong! And why would she want to be a part of an organization like that? That's not a promotion at all. Now she'd be just like them, and that leaves a sour taste in her mouth. (Not to mention other hypocritical things she notices throughout the series.) She goes on to learn to live in balance - not all emotions are bad. It's not about complete eradication of emotion, but learning which ones to cultivate, and which ones to set aside and think on. She learns what the elder (extremist) Jedi will not - balance. She becomes better than all those who came before...even Yoda, who is in her Jedi-family-lineage; he admits that the Jedi are blinded by their arrogance, but he's among them! I love everything about her story...so far, at least. I've got yet more catching up to do with Rebels and the Ahsoka show.
9. Asajj Ventress, Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Honestly, I like her for a lot of the reasons I like Ahsoka - they're like two sides of a coin, and I think she even says this to Ahsoka later in the series. But Asajj suffered immensely early in life, and lost two father figures (even if one of them was her kidnapper) - to include a Jedi Knight who was briefly her Master, before he was slain in battle. She was picked up by Count Dooku, and had her pain and hate stoked like a fire...and in time he betrayed her, as well. And still...she went on to be resilient, strong, smart, and a master in her own fields of stealth and assassination. She learned hard lessons, and learned to think for herself - she learned that she didn't need any of those men who had come before, in her life...she only needed herself. Her own wits. Her own strength. Her own intelligence. Much like Ahsoka, she broke away from what others tried to mold her into, and became her own woman... whether people liked who she became, or not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's a badass. Watch Clone Wars. Read her books.
10. Buffy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Does this one need a reason? She's an imperfect badass, too! She's a lot like Mac, mentioned earlier - she's girly, but not always. Sometimes it concerns her what people might think of that - being feminine, but strong - but she learns to embrace her strength and ferocity and role in the supernatural world... although not without bucking against the system just like Ahsoka and Ventress do - she makes it her own. She plays by her rules, not the Council's, not her Watcher's...and when she does so selfishly, and screws up, she learns a hard lesson about the wisdom and input of your friends and family, and considering how your choices affect those around you. She decides she will not be a dog on a leash for the Council (maybe she was some inspiration for Ahsoka...) - she's here to do two things: look fly, and kick monster ass. Oh yeah - and empower other young women to do the same.
Tumblr media
Honorable mentions for Spike (from Buffy), Lucifer (from the self-titled show), Aurene (GW2), Eliot Waugh (The Magicians), Catra (SPOP)
You'll no doubt note that pretty much all the women on the list are people who suffered immensely/were wronged and eventually grew stronger for that, and overcame both the situation and their own flaws...I love a bitch who can overcome both her own flaws, and the world itself being against her!

"ARC or Nothing" The Conception
*SPIN off of "Jaune Gets A Gun AU"
Tumblr media
Ozpin looks out and lets his gaze travel over the six young women currently standing before him. Behind them, a rather annoyed looking Glynda Goodwitch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ozpin: Is this all of... Mr Arcs suitors?
Glynda: Yes... or at least so far.
Emerald: Ms Arc!
Ruby/Pyrrha : (Growl)
Tiny Tina/Jinx/Harley: (Cackle crazily)
Ozpin: Quiet.
The sextet of young women all shuffled nervously before finally settling down. Ozpin looked at each one in turn, before sighing...
Ozpin: While I do not understand how three of you found yourselves here on Remnant, or to my Academy, you are here, and from all appearances, all six of you hold some deeper feelings for Mr Arc.
The Headmaster held up his hand, stopping any comments before they could happen.
Ozpin: Far be it from me to stand in the way of love, and affection, however due to the actions of some... the chances of collateral damage destroying my school is TOO great for me to let you six to attempt to woo Mr Arc...
Tiny Tina/Jinx/Harley Quinn: (Growling)
Pyrrha/Ruby/Emerald: You can't!
The sound of the palm of his hand impacting the top of his desk, cause them all to jump, and instantly settle down.
Ozpin: ...without supervision, or rules. So starting from this point on... ALL aggressive impulses towards one another cease. Understood?
All six nod.
Ozpin: SO from this point on you will all be on your best behaviour, and as a reward I will arrange a series of competitions... the winners of which will have earned a date with Mr. Arc... all expenses paid by Beacon. Now, before you agree to this arrangement, are there any questions?
Emerald looks about at the other five young women before raising her hand.
Ozpin: Ms Sustrai.
Emerald: If I win... can you have him... you know...
Ozpin: Yes, we will... arrange... for Mr Arc to be Ms Arc if you win a date with him...er her.
Emerald was beaming as she lowered her hand. The five others just glared at her, while four others, as Jinx, was still wavering between Husband Jaune and Wife Jaune.
Ozpin: So if there are no further questions, I will now assume we have an accord, with one last condition... that being Jaune Arc NEVER hears of this meeting or agreement. Understood?
The sextet all nod in unison.
Ozpin: You may leave. Professor Goodwitch will contact you via your scroll when the first competition has been arranged.
Glynda steps forward as the young women start to leave, and hands Tiny Tina, Jinx and Harley Quinn their own scrolls.
Glynda: Don't lose them.
The three silently nod, and quickly rush past the domineering woman, to join the others in the waiting elevator. Once the doors slid closed, both Ozpin and Glynda slumped.
Glynda: Is this going to work?
Ozpin: I have no idea, but we have to at least try.
Glynda: I have a headache already.

Gotham Knights Characters in Comics: A Guide For Non-Comic Readers
Are you a Gotham Knights viewer curious about what your new faves are like in the source material? Well, you're in luck, because I love to talk about them!
I'll preface this by saying that while I haven't actually sat down and watched the show, I have read the full episode transcripts. Additionally, if you're wondering where Turner, Cressida, or Rebecca and/or Brody March are in this post, they're original characters for the show and have no comic book counterparts.
(characters are in no particular order)
Carrie Kelley/Robin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carrie originates from Frank Miller's 1986 graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns. TDKR takes place in a (non-canonical) not-too-distant future where Batman has retired after the death of Jason Todd (the second Robin; his death happened in main continuity too, Bruce just responded... differently to it), but takes the cape back up for... reasons. I haven't actually read this comic despite how influential it is (basically every hyper-macho, weirdly-militarized, violence-glorifying take on Batman owes its existence to this comic, which should tell you why I haven't read it). Anyway, Carrie is Batman's Robin when he comes out of Bat-Retirement. She doesn't have too much going on to my knowledge, but is notable for being the first female Robin and for her use of a slingshot. In the sequel comic The Dark Knight Strikes Again, Carrie uses a different costume and the name Catgirl. Yes, really.
The Mutant Gang and its leader (though idk about the name Vernon Wagner since, again, haven't read it) are also taken straight from this comic. Including the part where they don't look like mutants and just look like weird punks wearing Cyclops visors.
Navia Robinson's Carrie is great, I really like her design and her performance.
Duela Doe (Duela Dent)/Joker's Daughter
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh boy, Duela. She made her first appearance in 1976, where she initially claimed to be the daughter of various villains such as Scarecrow and Riddler before finally revealing that her father is Two-Face (according to one of the writers, this was because Harvey was the only villain who it had already been established was married; he has an estranged wife named Gilda). At some point she started using the name Harlequin (note that this was before Harley Quinn was introduced) and was a member of the Teen Titans for a bit. This Duela is definitely the most normal—she's just a bit odd (the whole Joker's Daughter thing was just to spite Harvey for abandoning her because she wasn't a twin).
One reboot (Crisis on Infinite Earths) later, Duela's parentage is once again a mystery, though she still uses the "Joker's daughter" theme. One of her most notable appearances is in the Titans East arc of the 2000s Teen Titans run, where she is a member of the villainous Titans team assembled by Deathstroke (aka Slade from the Teen Titans cartoon, they just didn't want to say "death" on kids' TV). Eventually she gets bored and switches sides to fight alongside the heroic Titans.
Some time later, it's revealed that Duela is actually from an alternate universe and because of this she's killed by a Monitor (genuinely do not know what the Monitors' deal is but they have something to do with the universe/multiverse). Later on in the same big event (Countdown) we find out that the universe she was from is Earth-3, where characters who are normally good guys are bad guys and vice versa (for instance, instead of Batman there's the villainous Owlman). Her parents are the Jokester (Earth-3's heroic Joker) and Three-Face (Evelyn Dent, Harvey's heroic Earth-3 counterpart who is a lady for some reason).
Yet another reboot later (the New 52, noted for its many... questionable decisions), Duela is now just some girl with major issues and an obsession with the Joker. She also wears his severed face as a mask. Yyyyyeah, you can pretty much ignore this version.
The Gotham Knights version seems to be going with Duela actually being Joker's daughter, since she describes her background in such detail and she seems troubled enough by it that I doubt she made it all up. I'm interested to see what direction they go with her, at any rate!
Harper Row (Bluebird) and Cullen Row
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harper and Cullen get to share a section. Do Not Separate Them etc.
Comics Harper and Cullen's mom, Miranda, was murdered rather than having walked out on them (though I get why they changed this, as it ties in to the story of another character who probably won't be on the show—Cassandra Cain, who's currently on Batwheels and DC has this weird thing about characters appearing in more than one show at once). Since their shitty alcoholic dad was in and out of jail, Harper ended up having to be the one to take care of herself and Cullen. Eventually she applied for emancipation and they both moved out.
Harper is very good with machinery, and she provides for herself and Cullen by working as a professional electrical engineer. Harper was inspired to become Bluebird when Batman saved her and Cullen from some homophobic assholes (specifically they were targeting Cullen for being gay, though Harper is also bi. They never say if Cullen is trans or not). After this she and Cullen became fixated on Batman and his exploits (well, more so than the average Gothamite is), and eventually Harper went out fighting crime as Bluebird. Bluebird mostly uses gadgets she made herself, including a big taser gun. She's currently in college and volunteering at a clinic.
Cullen... doesn't do all that much. Tyler DiChiara noted in an interview that as much as he likes comics Cullen, he doesn't like how passive he is and he's excited to show him stand up for himself more. I definitely see that in the show and I'm totally here for it!
Stephanie Brown (Spoiler/Robin/Batgirl)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No, that's not a spoiler warning, she actually uses the name Spoiler.
I'll be honest, Steph is one of the main reasons I made this post, just 'cause the show version is such a far cry from her comics iteration (and not in a good way) that I felt almost duty-bound to try and set the record straight. I'm all for new interpretations of characters, but this goes beyond that into "in name only" territory.
So, what is comics Stephanie like? Well...
Stephanie Brown is the daughter of Arthur Brown, a failed game show host better known as the C-list supervillain Cluemaster (basically a lamer knock-off of the Riddler). Growing up with a criminal father (who alternated between being in jail and being an abusive prick when he was home) and a mother who, albeit loving, was limited in her ability to take care of her due to her drug addiction, Steph had to be tough. When her dad broke out of jail and was a fair bit more competent than normal, she decided she'd had enough and tried to stop him as Spoiler (because she "spoiled" her father's plans, you see). The first time she met Robin (specifically Tim Drake, the third Robin) she hit him with a brick. That must have been a good first impression, because they actually dated for a while. There's a story arc where Steph finds out she's pregnant (from a shitty ex-boyfriend, NOT Tim) and ends up giving her baby up for adoption. When Tim couldn't be Robin for a bit (his still-alive father Jack found out he was Robin and grounded him), Stephanie showed up to the Batcave in her own homemade Robin costume and basically declared herself Batman's Robin. When Bruce fired her from the position (for really dumb reasons), in an attempt to prove herself she tried to carry out one of Batman's plans to stomp out organized crime in Gotham. However, Steph made a mistake (part of the plan involved one of Bruce's fake identities but she didn't know it was one of his fake identities and thought it was an actual person) and ended up accidentally starting a huge gang war. In the midst of this gang war, she was kidnapped and tortured by Black Mask (the one Ewan McGregor played in the Birds of Prey movie, yes), and when he eventually let her go and she got to a hospital, she ended up succumbing to her injuries and dying. Messed up!
Some time later it turns out she actually faked her death and was in hiding for a while. She's given the Batgirl mantle by the aforementioned Cassandra Cain (who was Batgirl at the time) but after the New 52 she's Spoiler again (currently she's like, both? it's weird).
The big issue I have with her portrayal in Gotham Knights is with her background. Steph not only being a rich girl, but a big part of her story involving her being a rich girl, is missing the point SO hard in my opinion. A lot of who Stephanie is is because of her lower-class background (much like her fellow dead Robin, Jason Todd, who Bruce would compare her to a lot while she was Robin). She's someone who's had to fight for everything she has, that's like the whole point of her character! She and Harper were actually roommates in the comics for a bit.
Harvey Dent/Two-Face
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(first image is regular ol' Harvey, second image is him as Two-Face. There are a lot of variations on 2F's design, but pretty much all of them fit the description of "at least reasonably handsome-looking normal guy face on the left, messed-up scarred face with a glaring eye and constant snarl on the right".)
Here we get to the part I imagine a lot of you were waiting for. There are people who could explain this better than I (maniac-reboggles, for one), but I'm including my own attempt for the sake of completeness.
As he's existed since 1942, there's a lot of different ways Harvey's backstory has been told. The Incident that makes him into Two-Face has been pretty consistent since day one, but what happens before then varies more. In modern comics, though, it's generally something like this:
Harvey Dent grew up with an abusive father who kept a lucky coin that he would flip to decide whether or not he would beat his son. (This is where the DID comes from; childhood trauma is pretty much a prerequisite for the disorder as far as we know.) As an adult, Harvey is a close friend of Bruce Wayne (just to be clear Bruce and Harvey have had Gay Undertones for a long time, it's nothing new) and the youngest District Attorney in Gotham's history. Since this is Gotham, the justice system is corrupt as hell, but Harvey is doing his best to straighten things out and trying to root out corruption, earning him the nickname of Gotham's "White Knight". Things go bad when, while prosecuting mob boss Sal Maroni, Maroni (or sometimes one of his lackeys) throws sulfuric acid in Harvey's face, horribly scarring him. This is the last straw for Harvey psychologically--this incident has proven to him that the legal system is beyond hope. Taking inspiration from his father, Harvey reinvents himself as Two-Face, making decisions using a coin that has one clean side and one scratched-up, "scarred" side. (Originally it was that he'd either do a good deed or a bad deed, and sometimes it's still that, but other times it's more between "evil" and "less evil"). In more recent comics Harvey's alter (referred to by different names depending on the continuity; most often Two-Face is the name of the alter, but in BTAS he's "Big Bad Harv" and in at least one continuity he is referred to as Harvey's "associate") is depicted as a "protector" (which is more realistic to DID- people don't just have "evil" alters unlike what some movies would have you believe) who just happens to be rather ruthless in his methods.
Bruce is forever upset at what happened to his friend, and is often depicted as wanting to help him get his life back together and go straight; sometimes Harvey even agrees to that, but due to the nature of comic books he always goes back to villainy eventually. Sigh...
Lincoln March
Tumblr media
This is....Mmmm.
I haven't read the comic arcs with him in them, but in the Court of Owls arc, Lincoln March (which is apparently an alias) is seemingly a cool guy who supports Bruce in his endeavors to make Gotham better, he wants to run for mayor, a real stand-up guy. He even seems to want to assist Batman against the Court of Owls.
Buuuuut it turns out he's actually working with them. But they like, betrayed him or something, and also he claims that he's actually Bruce's secret twin brother, Thomas Wayne Jr.? It's left ambiguous if this is true or not.
(I mentioned before that Rebecca and Brody were made up for the show--for clarity, comics Lincoln is single.)
I don't know what direction they're gonna go with Lincoln in the show but I have to hope it isn't as dumb as the comics. But who knows, it could be way better, or it could be even dumber. We'll see!

LietPol Headcanons
yay!!! love them <3
so in the early fandom days i used to read a lot of lietpol and write a bit of it, this time around i haven't given it much thought but it's such a good ship and deserves more attention imho. i consider them an old married couple much like england and france.
the femdom ship of all time (i don't have a solid gender headcanon for poland but he seems so bigender to me... like my babygirl. or maybe he's non binary or just a flamboyant femboy. anyway.)
you know the 4 pm dick flattening meme? yeah that's them.
"he asked for no pickles" but liet is already eating the sandwich made incorrectly bc he doesn't really give a fuck. acceptable sandwich.
they're probably toxic in a way that looks really fun and cute externally. there is no way feliks isn't some flavor of crazy. but its ok he's so quirky about it!!! he likes pretending he's harley quinn or some shit. he's such a messy bitch and never grew out of it. he calls tolys daddy despite keeping the man's balls in a ziplock bag in his knockoff louis vuitton.
as far as tolys he's a very multifacted character but i can't see him as like this badass that he's apparently portrayed as in recent fandom.
he's socially awkward and neurotic and tired of everyone and poland is his biggest migraine but that bussy game is ridiculous and he gets off on being treated poorly. he keeps repeating happy wife happy life like some sort of mantra while completely losing his shit. i don't think he's actually like a pathetic wet noodle i do think he could be kind of a simp but it's inadvertent he's just trying to appease feliks because that satisfied lil smirk and evil gay laugh is what he lives for.
but it's not all that, they do have their sappy romantic moments, are emotionally vulnerable with one another, and have a lot of fun together. i see them playing jokes on each other a lot, watching movies together and snuggling, finding new hobbies that they can do as a couple like cooking or completing 'challenges' like. '30 autumn date ideas' or watching films off a list. and shopping together!!!
i see feliks putting in a lot of effort to cheer tolys up when he's down and if he ever does actually hurt his self esteem he's quick to apologize, reassure him, and make it up to him however he wants. i feel like tolys isn't a super romantic guy in general, at least he has trouble displaying it, but he's always in awe of how he managed to land such a cutie and doesn't let feliks forget that he's appreciated.

holyshit what an ep. SO. MUCH. HAPPENED:
Lincoln is the fucking head of the court of owls.
i confess i did NOT see that coming given he came off as a smug clueless douche and the way he showed Harvey the coin and the fact the Talon attacked him; kudos to the writers and the dude's acting on this twist bc once it happened i was like, of course! makes sense! and yet i didn't see it coming. this is great storytelling. i want to be surprised. i want to be proven wrong in ways that make sense for the characters - Lincoln fits the court of owls leader role so well both in personality and surrounding plot.
Lincoln also knows about Harvey fucking his wife which does not bode well for our man.
i'm gonna theorise right now that Lincoln is responsible for the Two-Face attack, obvs. still undecided on whether it will be intentional (seems likely) or if Harvey tries to save Turner or Rebecca and ends up being collateral damage (this speaks more to a villainous outcome imho bc the attack comes while he's trying to be heroic)
we got a glimpse of fugue!Harvey - triggered by the piano music courtesy of the court.
seems like the court [re:Lincoln] has been using fugue!Harvey for nefarious means, and now that Lincoln knows Harvey is a homewrecker he's going to use fugue!Harvey to ruin Harvey
fugue!Harvey was at the owls meeting.
Harvey wakes up in an owl mask spattered with blood; we saw Lincoln stab Cressida so either Harvey was present in the woods or at least the party - seems more likely the amount of spatter came from the Talon being beheaded, and since Harvey has bloody hands maybe he helped move the body. I wonder of fugue!Harvey has killed anyone besides the mayor.
Turner has been taken by the court.
what do they plan to do with him? test the electrum? that could be an interesting outcome
shoutout to Stephanie's homelife breaking all our hearts.
her mom is addicted to pain meds and her dad is in denial about what kind of help she needs and they both blame Steph, fuckmeup
Turner/Duela friendship or maybe more?
Duela wants to find Turner asap and screw the danger of it. it's nice to see her legit caring about someone bc while i love her snarky one-liners and overall persona she was a little detached from the rest of the gang for lack of emotional connection, so thankyou for that writers!
we learn Duela's mom is a con artist still in prison.
idk if it's Harley Quinn bc I know nothing about the comics but this mention makes me pretty confident we'll meet her mom at some point
So! i have questions and theories:
who ordered the Talon to attack Lincoln?
was it Rebecca? this makes sense given the Talon didn't harm Harvey. but surely Lincoln would know she did it, and she would know that he knows, bc she would also be an owl.
was it fugue!Harvey trying to take Lincoln out from the inside? this also makes sense given the Talon didn't harm Harvey.
was it Lincoln? the Talon didn't kill him afterall, and the attack took place in Harvey's office as if to implicate him - but Lincoln didn't know about the affair at the time.
fugue!Harvey is a court member.
did he become a member of his own volition and the court discovered a way to trigger him? or did the court induct fugue!Harvey with a promise to let him out to play?
this makes Lincoln coming to him with news of recieving a coin intriguing: was he testing to see if Harvey recognised owl stuff?
it also makes Lincoln's comment about Harvey being a two-faced politician that much more delicious since he knows how true it is.
Rebecca???
given that Lincoln is the leader(?) of the owls, surely Rebecca must be a member as well.
i do wonder... is she playing a long-con with Harvey somehow? maybe she wants out of the court and her marriage and to be with Harvey, or maybe she wants fugue!Harvey with her all the time and they could both live forever courtesy of the court's electrum hunt?
admittedly she is my least favorite character bc i find her boring and cliche, but that may also be a smokescreen hiding more interesting characteristics and plot yet to be revealed.
Two-Face.
Lincoln might use Harvey (not fugue!Harvey) as a test subject for the Electrum as revenge for sleeping with his wife; it risks Harvey becoming immortal but maybe the science isn't there yet so it's basically just torture and possibly death. BUT: things go haywire (maybe Turner rescues Harvey, maybe the machine shorts-out, mabye Harvey gets free) and we end up with scarred Harvey and the emergence of Two-Face - who also might be kind of immortal (not to the extent of the Talon but more indestructible than the average human).
the 1x09 promo gives us more to go on:
"so many things about your life suddenly make sense"
spoken by Lincoln over footage of Turner and a memory of his parents(?). this goes with my theory that Turner's parents were also court members, or perhaps knew what the court was up to and sought out Bruce Wayne's help stop them, perhaps bc they knew Alan Wayne once betrayed the owls?
Lincoln stabs/tortures Turner
given what we learned about Electrum being meteorite material and how an old doctor (was it Lincoln?!) experimented on the city's poor people with it, perhaps Turner's ancestors were experimented on and now he holds the key to unlocking how to successfully administer Electrum? this would mean Turner may be unkillable, so i can't wait to see how that plays out if true!
however: the Electrum procedure already worked on the Talon so why would they need Turner? well, bc the Talon seems to be a mindless servant whereas Turner has intellect and free will ie. he's a fucntioning independant human being which is what the court wants.
it may also be that Lincoln is just trying to get the whereabouts of the batbrats bc they have the map to the Electrum
Someone staggering down the hallway
flashback of poisoned Bruce? there are bats, afterall (probably hallucinated but still apt)
more likely it's Turner trying to escape Lincoln who is holding him hostage in Wayne manor, and the bats are real (they swarm Lincoln at one point)
i'm sure i'll have more thoeries and thoughts on a rewatch and once i see what the rest of fans are saying, but this is what i'm musing on right now. and for all the twists that happened at the end of the ep i'm SO excited for next week!

Lily when she stole AnimeChristy's art and made a video calling her an art diva for asking for credit, thus sending Lily's entire fanbase after her in a blatant case of dogpiling and bullying: "Images don't matter, people watch this in another tab anyway."
Lily now that her videos have become less focused, less fact-based, and more repetitive than ever, tanking her viewership: "It's because of my avatar, which I made my wife draw so quickly that it not only stressed her out but resulted in art of a lesser quality than she usually produces. I'm going to work my wife even harder to make even more drawings and throw her art under the bus on my blog regularly."
Fun fact, in her video directing a dogpile and bullying onto an artist whose work she stole, she went on a tangent about how she doesn't respond to dogpiling and bullying, trying to frame herself as the victim when no one did that to her and she did it to someone else in the same video.
I normally hate the term unhinged because of its' ableist connotations but this woman is, in fact, 100% unhinged.
things that LO has stopped doing or refused to do precisely because people "bullied her" about it:
- talk about the antisemitism on the Harley Quinn show.
-talk about what she does to regain contact with her Cherokee heritage.
-create a short hair female character.
-have plus size characters in general.
things that LO kept doing despite recieving plenty of backlash about it:
-double down on taking art of people in fandom without permission.
-making racist jokes with censored racial slurs.
-defend FG as the pinnacle of trans representation and Sheldon as a educacional tool to teach about autism.
-insist that queer is a slur and can't be reclaimed despite overwhelming historic evidence.
-putting way too much incest or incestuos implications on everything she writes.
-same with grooming and being weirdly fixated on the sexuality of underage characters.
it looks to me that LO is only ever "harrased" out of something only when it was something she didn't want to do in the first place. then she's happy to make herself the victim, but when it comes to keep doing what she wants then it doesn't matter.

My personal AK!Riddler headcannons. Some of these play into my story so theyre biased, but I tried to keep those aspects out as much as I could.
Riddler has never had a seasoned/fully cooked meal. He mentions in the game he makes himself healthy meals, but the VA mentioned he probably doesnt eat much. The reason I think he doesnt properly cook his meals or seasons them is because hes so infacuated on Batman, he doesnt have time to be patient. He either completely undercooks his food, or overcooks it. On the rare occassion he cooks it correctly, its bland and tastes like nothing.
Firm believer hes petty and has thrown tantrums at the other Rogues. Hes extremely petty, so people dont mess with him much, but, when he throws tantrums he physically has to stop himself from looking like a fool. He only does it in front of Batman, but because hes projecting his fatherly issues on to him.
Riddler only lets people hes REALLY close to call him Eddie. He doesnt have friends but has goons?? So the closest to friendship would be Catwoman. He doesnt get upset when she calls him Eddie, which is his real name. Batman has to call him Nygma, Sir, Mr. Nygma. Could be because of his hinted relationship with her, who knows.
I believe that when Catwoman showed interest in Batman, Riddler did get really jealous. Its one thing to try to move on with another rogue, and another to date your arch nemesis. It was really a punch to his ego when he was pretty much replaced by Batman. The whole trial is about proving to Catwoman that Batman won't be there for her, so 👀👀. I don't really ship them, but its obvious theres something else going on between them.
Riddler definitely has Twitter, Instagram, or some other variation of that. Ever since his #CancelBatman thing, hes had to use bots to drown out the hate. Does he delete the website? Absolutely not. He needs to prove it doesn't get under his skin!
Due to Riddlers projections, I think riddler just wants his fake parental figure to play with him. Explain how a damn race car track is a riddle. Hes playing cars with his dad. Not that im infintizing him in any way- but- what other explanation is there for him to make a giant sewage racecar track without a riddle attached to it. Yes catwomans life is on the line, and theres other actual puzzles, so what the hell is this about?
I like to think that Riddler does have some admiration for the batman. He mentions to Batman that he should take care of his car more, so to some degree he admires the his tech.
Harley Quinn is the only one thats been able to beat Riddler at chess. No one else played with him, but after that he stopped wanting to prove his intellectual superiority among the Rogues. No one really cares about that except him and it keeps him up at night.
Scarecrow has a soft spot for him. Yes he still treats him like he would everyone else, but he just treats him slightly better than everyone else.
Riddler probably has a childhood hamster that died in a horrific way. He loves how hamsters look but hates the idea of owning one from how traumatizing it was. Not that he abused his hamster or anything, from what I've read they tend to die horrible ways for no reason.
I think he loves the little group of people that stan him, but finds them extreamely annoying. Yes, he enjoys the love and attention, but when fangirls 16 year olds claim to be his girlfriend, or grown women claim to be his wife? Not so much. He also doesnt like when his fans plan an attack and try to give Riddler credit for some minor idiotic plan. It hurts his reputation.
He hates being around large crowds of people. He hates being around stupid people, unless the attention is for him then he doesn't mind.
Probably knows the court of owls exists, but thinks theyre full of bologney.
Enjoys hot chocolate more than coffee, but this one was obvious.
He probably tried making a robot family at some point, with a mom robot, dad robot, and brother robot. It didnt work out
Workplace is a mess, but its his mess. He knows where everything is.
He hates the idea of being alone, but does nothing about it. He probably has cried himself to sleep, not only from Batmans trauma, but also his issues that he can't fix.
Lgbt supporter. Batman villains are queer coded, and has shown he has two lesbian henchmen, so I don't think he'd have a reason to be homophobic.
Disliked Joker the most out of the Rogues. Not only because of the spotlight hed get, but because he was rude to him a few times.
Asexual. Never been interested in sex, never will be, unless its for reproduction purposes, but even then he wont get into bed with anyone. He wants his genes to be passed down, but it would be with someone equally smart that fits his description of a perfect woman, but no icky stuff. He'll be a sperm donor but thats as far as it will get.
Not used to being physical. Hates being hugged, touched, or slightly bumped into. He doesnt seem to get much physical contact with anyone aside from metal and some occasional firm handshakes.
to add to that, his fight or flight mode activated once when Harley jumped on his back trying to surprise him. He gave her a black eye and immidiately appologized. joker was still alive.
has had girlfriends before, never liked any of them.
Riddler secretly calls Scarecrow his work best friend.
Doesn't do riddles during Rogues meetings because no one answers him.
