Mandatory intro post

My memories will be below the cut if anyone remembers something similar or the same I’d love to talk

My name is Chara, but I go by Gold when in public servers and when talking with/around other Charas as it feels selfish to keep the name lmao.

I’ve been told I’m not very talkative and a little dry until we get into a conversation and I’m really bad at starting those I’m sorry

Anti endos can fuck right off <3 :) we’re traumagenic but we don’t see how telling people how to live their life and obsessing over that is at all healthy.

Also if you use anything other than they/them for me or Frisk fuck off (Fictives if you use something else your fine but singlets and people who arent undertale Fictives of chara or frisk I’m going to bite you.

Also a fair warning is that I had (have? I dunno) a huge crush on Frisk, I look up to them a lot. I might rb charisk art lmao

Also I am now 19, and the body is an adult. Okay now onto memories; tw for suicidal behavior in my past and death obv lmao

But so like, I was a part of a small farming village, heavily religious, all that jazz. It was like a fucking cult it was horrible. Not to mention my parents just Sucked majorly. The only thing I really liked there was this fountain that was in the middle of the town, it had these flowers around it, buttercups, they’ve always been my favorite. Very painful to ingest so don’t try that.

But at the flowers I met this other kid who didn’t seem to believe in the bullshit the other villagers were on either, and we became friends. But then she disappeared, I have no idea what happened to her no one would tell me shit.

I was also born with red eyes, which came out of fucking no where, neither of my parents had them and everyone thought I was cursed or some sort of test from whatever the fuck they worshiped. I have no idea I was like eight okay?

But I got bullied, a lot because of it. And eventually I went to the mountain that was filled with “freaks” (monsters) because if I didn’t die from jumping then at least I’d get to meet other beings who were outcasted by society. Lucky me I got taken in as Asriels little sibling, which was probably one of the only things that saved me.

People think I was shitty to him?? For some reason?? Like damn he’s the second being to show me kindness and be accepting of the person I was? I wasn’t going to make him sad or upset if there was another way.

But then I heard about how my adoptive family and all the other monsters wanted to get back to the surface and to live in peace, and I didn’t believe it was gonna work, but I didn’t wanna leave them without happiness. And so I tried to get enough souls to break the barrier, and asriel helped. I wasn’t even gonna involve him but he wanted to help.

Yeah it didn’t work out as planned, I got burried where asriel first found me (it was where we hung out the most) and I was pretty much a ghost hanging around and following any humans who fell below, and had to watch my family get torn apart and everything change. And then Frisk happened… and Frisk fixed everything, even if it wasn’t the same they succeeded where I failed. And I helped them because they’d talk to me, and then they gave me half their soul after working out the ideas of how to give me a body to inhabit and a way to stay on the physical plane with alphys behind everyone’s back so it could be a surprise for them, and we also got asriel as well,even if he did struggle with sorting out how he wanted to approach everything as both asriel and flowey. It was nice, and I know it’s weird but I had such a huge crush on Frisk because they were everything I wasn’t and they were so confident when talking to others when ID have panic attacks about even going outside hfjdjd

Though outside of political meetings Frisk often wouldn’t talk to anyone but their close ones (mostly me and Asriel) and we’d translate for them.

I always get angry with how people call me evil or a bad person because, I was just a child! It’s all because asriel says “chara… wasn’t the greatest person” Which like, yeah I fucked up a lot, I was clingy to Asriel and he got almost no alone time because he was my “safe person” and I was mentally I’ll and traumatized and often flipped on a switch on him, but he also loved me as a sibling, I wasn’t the greatest person and I’m still not, but I’m an okay person, and I’m trying my best. And I know Asriel didn’t mean it like that.

It’s the middle of the week, have some dancing turtles

Spoilers below as I gush about my Mutant Mayhem Monday experience 🤗 please feel free to gush with me I wanna hear other people’s thoughts too!

First off… When Seth wanted to put the teenager in TMNT he meant it. Like, all the versions act like teenagers, but like Nickelodeon PG stereotypical teens. MM turtles were the realest PG-13 outta pocket 21st century teenagers I’ve ever seen and I love that shit because it’s the first time I actually felt like I was around the kids in middle school and high school again with the way they talk. Kinda appreciate Superfly cussing too? Like idk it’s Ice Cube and this villain goes hard tryna kill some teenage turtles he formally saw as his lil cousins, let the grown mutant cuss

Also uh, was not expecting to be sad so early in the movie? Like I could tell from the trailers it was gon be an emotional rollercoaster but shit like ten minutes in and these turtles are fuckin depressed. And to see it really hit me because in every other version (except for Bayverse) the turtles literally never let not being part of the human world get to them. In the shows especially they’re so well adjusted and never bothered by sticking to the shadows. Then there’s Rise where they pretty much go out whenever they want and indulge in most of the human world stuff they want to. For these guys to be so stunted and desperate to have more freedom was so heart wrenching. Especially when Splinter grounds them for a whole month and the reality sinks in of how much they know the life they want isn’t an option for them

Wasn’t expecting any kind of ship or romance but that crush Leo has on April hit me like truck because…… holy crap the Leo-April pair has never been a thing? On top of that this is only the second on screen black April we’ve seen and I’ve been a Leo kinnie across the board since day one so to see this combo of my favorite character liking a black girl is making me lose my mind 🥲 and like it got me thinking of several of my favorite shows and the single characters I kin in those and if they’ve ever had black love interests and it’s just still not a common normalized thing honestly.

I’m sure a lot of people aren’t excited for the prospect of ships coming back (especially after 2012 scarred us) but as a Leo lover and black girl it got me so excited to see something like this. I’m just hopeful and optimistic they won’t mess it up like a lot of shows do. The “this is just as friends line” already makes me a little worried bc that trope never has a good history but I have faith they’ll handle things tastefully and not make it toxic or messy

Just a couple of my favorite questions that April wrote down for them:

“Do you carry salmonella?” Look I still don’t know wtf salmonella is but it’s the second time a TMNT iteration has joked about it so I’m starting to think it has something specifically to do with turtles 👀

“Have you caught covid?” Oml covid exists in this world

“Are you the source of covid?” OUT OF LINE 💀

“How many people has the red bandana turtle stabbed? Does he need therapy?” Yes.

“Does sunlight cause you to burst into flames?” They’re- they’re not vampires? 😂

Leon Ardo deserves the world and whatever he wants in it give him everything 😭

I will never understand what made Donnie laugh so hard at the name Nardo other than it being because it’s his sibling and that it bothers Leo lmao

All imma say about the puke scene is that I’m glad I heard an “out of context” spoiler about it bc I knew exactly when to look away and I’m glad I did bc the scene lasted for so long??? 😀❓But hey at least I had Unwritten to listen too while I was sparing my eyes 😂

The sequence of them going around and shaking down those gangs and Superfly’s connections. BAD. ASS. And each of them got their own moments to shine? Loved it. Like they each even got to take point and have their moments where they got to kick in the door lol. And the fight scenes were just, muah. Chef’s kiss, they all looked amazing taking grown ass adults down together

Okay Splinter definitely gets the best dad award for putting together that little surprise party, with all the celebrity Chris’s and pretending to wait on them 🥺 so pure. It did make me sad the guys immediately left and you can just see such a sad dejected look on Splinter’s face, knowing he can’t provide what his kids really want or make them happy enough without it 🥲 At the very least they say thanks and that they appreciate but I would’ve at least stayed for a lil bit and gone along with it, Splinter just looked so excited about it and it was so sweet 😭

And he doesn’t even get upset though he knows they’re hiding something, he just says he’ll help them if they’ve gotten into trouble, which is something I’m sure almost every kid has wanted instead of having the kind of relationship where they’re more scared of telling their parents they messed up instead of handling it on their own

I love how musical Superfly’s family is 😂 Ray Filet just starts sing-introducing his name and Mondo and the other couple mutants when they drive with in the car trying to find music they could all sing to together 🥹 not to mention the musical references Superfly makes later that I’ll get to. “Kinda don’t wanna murder everyone on Earth, I just kinda wanna sing” Me too bruh.

Raph immediately going “goochi goochi goo” and playing peekaboo with Genghis frog is so underrated that boy has such a soft side he’s not even that afraid of showing at times, and maybe it’s continuing the trope of Raph having a soft spot for pets/animals? Who knows 😌

Yo I was kinda shook when that government guy knocked Leo out and he just fell unconscious on the ground 😶 Like we’re used to seeing the authorities be brutal especially in movies like this but that’s a whole teenager? You just assaulted a minor? 🙂 Crazy

Also I know it’s sad they got captured and drained painfully but Mikey in that scene was hilarious 😂 like even the way he was dramatically crying and Leo was just started to cry with him like “iM sO sOrRy mIkEeEeEy! 😭” gold. When one of his children is hurting Leo hurts too. One of my favorite moments 🤣

They literally started singing BTS while being tortured they’re so unserious but like in a serious way to them and I love it. Also the fact that they did it just to make Donnie feel better? So pure. Like Raph of all turtles offered to sing while being drained of blood (bc I refuse to use the m word 💀)

The way Splinter snuck in and soloed literal government soldiers single handedly? Badass. Never loved seeing a Splinter save his sons so much 🥹

“But it’s the only way we’ll be accepted.”

“No! We accept you!”

“You can come live with us! We accept you!”

“WE VIBE!”

Oml they’re so puuuuure 😭 I really thought this was gonna be a moment where the guys invite them all to come live with them and Splinter was gonna be like ‘aha 😬 whoa slow down there’ but damn nah he was just as enthusiastic as them inviting all those mutants to come live in their home forever “The more the merrier!” Like ugh he just loves finding family like Baxter Stockman and we see where the guys got their loving nature from 🥹

The amount of his soul Mikey put into that BROSEEEPH was so real like I’ve never heard the name broseph be said in any other way, I’m so glad they put that moment in there

“New York, New York!” “I’m the king of New York!”

Oml superfly’s a Broadway baby 🤗 he’s a big bad villain marching through time square and talking about King Kong but he’s fill gonna nerd out and make his musical theatre references 😂

“For once in your life you didn’t sound lame. You actually started to sound like a leader”

“That was really heartfelt Raph”

I love the Leo Raph dynamic in this movie. Like they don’t always agree or understand each other but they will show love towards one another and show mutual appreciation

Something about any of the turtles shells cracking always gets to me for some reason like those are some serious permanent injuries so I want to see if they do anything special with that in the sequel or show maybe 🤔 And I couldn’t tell if all of theirs cracked or just one, and if so which turtle it was. I think Leo or Raph. I feel like it was Leo but Raph’s are also starting to have a trend of getting cracks in their shells so 🤷🏽‍♀️

Also I do not want to judge what other people like to wear but why are Raph and Donnie the only normal dressed ones 😭 like Mikey looks like he’s going on vacation and Leo looks like he’s going to clock in at Best Buy 😂 tell me it’s because they have limited resources for clothes lmao. HE’S LITERALLY WEARING A LANYARD

Them taking off the masks was crazy honestly… like them deciding not to wear them made my brain pause until I realize they’re kids going to school now and not being ninjas all the time… they don’t need them anymore. I’m just so pleased with the fact that this movie was willing to do what all other iterations weren’t. I see why they’re getting a sequel and show already, these guys and the plot development deserve so much more exploration

Maybe I missed something in the beginning but I’m wondering where Stockman went. Like is he still in custody? Did he die? Because not seeing him again that’s what I assumed but we only saw him get arrested or whatever, so if anything I don’t get why Superfly and the others wouldn’t try to break him out 🤔 I was surprised they didn’t make him a villain though, but I’m pretty happy about him getting to be a more optimistic kind character tho

SHREDDER HAD ME SHOOK LIKE THE ARMOR ALREADY LOOKED SO COOL AND I WAS NOT EXPECTING THEM TO GET THE BIG BAD INVOLVED AHHHH I’M SO READY TO SEE THEM REACT TO THIS ANGRY GIANT TIN CAN

Although I do wonder if Shredder’s gonna have some personal gripe with them since they have a different backstory he doesn’t seem to be a part of. And shit now that they’re public and in school it’s gonna be so much easier for him to go after them 😅 pluses and minuses…

The soundtrack: golden. Cultured. Nothing but range. Goes from a 90’s rap song to Natasha Bedingfield’s soulful 2000’s song. Most movies only ever have all pop mainstream songs or only rap songs because they think they can’t mix but MM does it effortlessly. The turtles are so versatile not just with music genres but they make old and new references ‘cause they’re well rounded kings 💪🏽 Between rizz, Adele, broski, Hey Arnold, K-Pop, Ferris Bueller, etc… I mean Donnie’s literally doing the sprinkler and the funky chicken in that gif up top 😂 they’re born in 2008 I doubt any kids today know about those dances anymore

Clearly I have all the thoughts and feelings about these boys and the movie, but I think this is probably my favorite TMNT movie? I’ve loved all of them but I think this one definitely brings me the most comfort fr

Lockwood and Co. How do I begin to talk about this insane universe that has literally changed my life in so many ways in such a small amount of time?

I think it was probably January 27th that I actually got the notification for the trailer for the show from Netflix’s Youtube. I don’t know exactly what it was that made me interested in the trailer in the first place and set it apart from the hundreds of trailers that netflix has posted that I’ve ignored, but there was just something about it that made me think “oh, this looks interesting, let me take a look at the trailer.” Thank god I did.

If I were to go back in time to that version of linnie and tell them that their life was about to be changed, I think they would’ve laughed. At that period of time I’d had a 2 year long hyperfixation on the grishaverse and I couldn’t think of anything that would’ve possibly broken me out of that long ass period of chaos. And then I watched Lockwood and Co and I immediately fell in love with an entirely new world.

Lockwood and co means so much to me for so many reasons. One of them is that I’ve never seen myself more reflected in a character than I see myself in Lucy Carlyle- hence the name Linnie. I didn’t even realize it until Aaron ( @queer-and-nerdy ) pointed it out (after I pointed out how much of a George kinnie they are) and then everything made sense in a way? Like Lucy Carlyle is the truest form of a comfort character for me because we are basically the same person and I never realized how special a character could be until I met Lucy Joan Carlyle.

Another reason why I love this universe so much is because I love found family, and I love the found family that Jonathan Stroud has written. The Iron Trio will always be so special to me because of how often it is shown and how deeply it is known that they love each other unconditionally, Even George and Lucy, who have their differences when they first meet, grow to love each other in their own way and I genuinely believe that the family found within the Iron Trio is one of the most beautiful relationships I’ve ever read or seen portrayed on screen.

I also just truly love the worldbuilding. The world that Jonathan Stroud has created has such an amazing homely feel to it that I will never tire of. I love literally everything about it- the lore, the execution, the way that he was able to make ghosts even more terrifying for such a young audience.

Lastly, I love the fandom. I’ve talked a little bit about how much a kind and welcoming fan space like the l&co tumblr means to me and how I have had rocky situations in a fandom in the past, but I truly cannot even begin to talk about how much this online space has truly changed me in so many ways. I feel like I can have open, honest, and constructive opinions on here without being scared to speak my mind or fear the repercussions of not being 100% happy all the time. This fandom is the most accepting and loving fandom I have ever known, and I’d like to tag a few of the people who have made this place so loving and enjoyable to partake in. TL;DR Hey, I’m reading into stuff (character design, I will never stfu about the rottmnt character design) again. Overthinking it like a true Donnie kinnie 🫡

So, I thought the mask tails were in order of age in rise. But, I’m unclear on which mask tails between Donnie & Mikey and Leo & Raph’s are longer/shorter. BUT. Another thing with their mask tails is that the two younger have shorter mask tails and the two older have longer mask tails (I’m a firm younger twin Donnie believer.) Furthermore, when we look at, for example,

MIKEY’S mask tails, they’re quite symbolic of him as a character.

They’re the only ones that are really rounded to that extent (Leo’s are more rounded too, but in a longer and less bubbly/circle way) Mikey is a fun, bubbly, optimistic character. Hence why Mikey=circle. They’re also shaped kind of like a paintbrush - the actual brush part, that is - which is interesting.

LEO’S are more triangular and curve much like his sword. Also, since they’re longer, we don’t see them very often (same with Raph’s) because of how the physics of the mask tails work.

The reason for Leo being a triangle, I’m not entirely sure. But my working theory (haven’t read anywhere why, though it’s likely somewhere) is because a lot about him is sharp. Sword, markings, face, body shape, mask tails. However, his personality is, ironically, the opposite. He’s also the more fun type, and definitely not a villain - even if he may see himself as one or, at least, the ‘blame’ during the movie - (sharp angles in character design are typically associated with villains) But his mask tails being a rounded triangle is really interesting. It’s like he’s smoothing out his personality (cough, cough, face man.) but he’s still “sharp” (loud, ‘annoying’, funny, quick-witted.)

RAPH, I don’t know too too much about, however- you also don’t often see the tails of his mask (because it, like Leo’s, is longer.) It’s jagged like his shell (again, ironic, because he’s pretty much a big softie - although on both the exterior and interior, he is/can be very tough.) He’s harsh on himself more so than he is on his brothers, taking it as his duty to protect them, to lead them, to keep them from harm.

I refuse to retype what I just typed, so I took a photo:

OK, so for DONNIE, I don’t have really anything to say (because I’m tired and my phone’s overheating ^^ he’s still my favourite and I love him dearly.)

But, his mask tails are more rectangular. Donnie = Rectangle, as we all know. (Galactic forehead, cough cough) And Donnie’s mask tails, with him being a younger brother and his mask tails being shorter, are more visible (again, physics.)

That’s it, he’s a rectangle. Shape language and such that goes more into his personality, yadda yadda, like I said - tired.

Anywho, that’s also a big part of a point that could be made about the episode(s) where they went through more formal training and their outfits were completely the same. They were one, completely. Raph and Leo even mind melded. But, that also means they weren’t themselves (we be we, baby.)

This is also a very long winded way of saying Donnie is the younger twin (I accept no other answers (jk ^^))

So, I hope somebody actually reads this rant. And, remember, I know this likely might not actually mean anything. I’m an analyst. I love their character designs I WILL NOT BE SILENCED.

But, that’s just a theory… a game theory!!

he shows he cares in little ways like that

zoro is the one to tell it like it is in the straw hats

like he did when usopp left

and he won’t be afraid to call you out on your crap if your wrong

hes not trying to alienate your or something

he just wants you to realize what your doing and change to be a better person

youll have to stop him from getting into trouble btw

like the time he almost shanked charlos

and you always makes sure he doesn’t get lost :)

may or may not come of with nick names for you depending on what you look like/do a lot

like with sanji and ero cook

but they’re less insulting

if your a more excitable person he won’t mind same with being a chill person

hes indifferent about a lot of things

hes chill with 90% personalities and 100% of looks

the 10% of personality he doesn’t like is sanji’s

you and zoro kinda always end up going wherever the other goes

like y’all are always together but like not on purpose

it’s cute to robin and nami

zoro would open up to you about his past a good amount of months into the relationship

but it won’t be at random

itll probably happen after you open up to him about yours

it was a much needed conversation that let him get a lot off his chest

especially about kuina

he never directly told anyone about who she was

he always just says i promised someone

or his childhood friend

but he never went into depth

which is just even more confirmation that he really loves and trusts you

communication with him is actually pretty good

some topics might get skimped though

if he does something you don’t like subconsciously

dont hesitate to come to him about it

it won’t offend him

he’s a tough cookie anyways he’ll be alright

plus he’s all about betterment

so he’s open to criticism as longs as your being genuine and not sarcastic

he’s also most likely to take it if it’s from you

I really wanted to write some scenarios for this one bc its so cute but my hands are full from the event atm DX but have some thoughts.

EDIT: I really can't do short answers huh? I didn't really put too much time in editing so characters might be a bit off

So, I think this would work best with the characters that are socially awkward or have a desperate need for safety/affection. Some candidates:

Kaeya

For someone who looks socially confident, he's got some unsolved trauma and no secure relationships in his life. (Not after what happened with Diluc. Even if they reconciled, there is still a scar never to be healed again.) So it’s always been a struggle for him to show his true self. When you come around he'll feel conflicted about his emotions.

It’s not that he doesn’t trust you. You're kind and you've always been there for him, - but he can't help the 'what if's' that appear whenever he tries to open up.

What if there's someone better out there? What if he's no longer the cool and fun cavalry captain when he opens up? When will he eventually be rejected or abandoned?

These thoughts swirl inside his head like a parasite, but you've always been the brightest light in his life. He won't be too surprised if one day you'll outshine the shadows of his past.

It's somewhere in the evening when you drop by his office. Nothing spectacular happened that day, you simply wanted to check up on him.

And you're glad you did. Piles of unfinished paperwork lay on his desk and while he tries to hide it, exhaustion peeks through his smile. He’s always been one to downplay his emotions.

With your own smile you walk over to Kaeya. His hair falls in front of his eyepatch and you gently brush some strands away. You've always had the need to be close to people, something Kaeya never seems to mind, and so you wrap your arms around him as he sits down in his office chair.

His body freezes in place when the words leave your lips. 'I'm proud of you, Kaeya.' - something he hadn't heard in forever. Kaeya forces himself to bite down any emotion that came with it. He didn't want to be a burden, to be anything else than someone fun to be around.

But you somehow seemed to catch up on his silent wishes. You always did.

He wished he had the courage to tell you how much it means to him when you check up on him after a long day.

For now he'll simply hold onto your affection. Like a child clinging onto their teddybear at night, it's his comfort when the world grows dark.

Childe

Man's been robbed out of his childhood and innocence. At age 14 he was forced to kill or be killed, trained until he formed the Foul Legacy to survive in the abyss. And when he finally submerged from that pit he got sent away to the Fatui because his family couldn't handle him anymore.

Childe is no saint. But when you have that adorable frown on your face as you scold him for his injuries, he feels a bit more 'normal'.

In the back of Childe's mind, he's always convinced that people need ulterior motives to be kind. Perhaps it's because he's surrounded by the fatui, harbingers - the most dangerous persons on Teyvat and has seen several abyssal creatures. No one is kind.

Either way, he can't stop or deny the dark thoughts that seem to pop up at the most unconventional moments.

He lifts his arm up, giving you access to the cut he'd gotten in battle. Your smaller hands are moving around too quick for his liking, bandaging him and cleaning his wounds with unnecessarily fragility. Under any other circumstance, he'd shrug the wound off and continue the day without any more care.

You're talking. It's a soothing noise to him. He doesn't really hear what you're rambling about, though. He's trying to focus but his mind is in shambles.

You're so gentle. What if he'll snap one day? Will you forgive him? What if the abyss finds you?

Somewhere in the process of thinking he grabbed your hand. He only realized so when you gently squeezed back in his hold. “Are you okay? If it hurts please tell me.” Your gentle gaze meets his blank one.

His hair shakes along with his head. “I'm alright.”

For now, he had no witty comeback. He'd be silent, enjoying this moment of torture as you finally give him what he's lost at 14 years old; care and affection

“Can you check on Leviathan?” Lucifer asks you, after pulling you aside during breakfast. The Avatar of Pride’s eyes flit about the space behind you, evidently watching his brothers to make sure they don’t do anything mischievous in his absence. “He hasn’t been out of his room in a while and he won’t answer any of our messages.”

“Yeah, sure,” you agree, feeling a bit curious yourself. Levi isn’t one to leave his room unless he really desires to. You’re wondering why Lucifer seems so concerned about it. From what you know, social withdrawal is normal for Levi. You think about Lucifer’s request as you return to the table and finish your breakfast. Once you’re finished, you break away from the group and announce that you’ll return to your room. Somehow, you manage to catch Lucifer’s eye and he nods reassuringly.

You finally make it to Levi’s bedroom, after minutes of doubt and hesitation forcing you past his door. The door is closed, unsurprisingly. You knock a few times, but no one answers. Grimacing, you decide to open the door slowly. Thankfully, you don’t get smited on sight. It takes you a moment to find the Avatar of Envy, since his room can be rather distracting. Eventually, you find him reclined on the sofa, playing some sort of game.

“Hey, Levi,” you say, knowing he’s not quite paying attention to you. You linger in the doorway, biting your lip. Leviathan doesn’t really like having people in his room unless he invites them. Knowing this, you stay in the doorway. “Just wanted to check in on you. Have you, um, left your room recently?”

“No,” Levi growls, his gaze caught on his game. You frown and try to think of a way to get his attention. You could take the controller, of course, but you don’t want to die. Another idea crosses your mind. It’s stupid and embarrassing, but it might work.

“That’s a kinnie moment,” you nod sagely. It takes nearly all of your willpower not to burst out laughing at the cringey nature of the statement. Your effort is worth it, however, because Leviathan’s face twists and he tears his eyes away from the game to look at you.

“Shut up,” Leviathan scoffs, although he chokes out a laugh for a brief second. You grin victoriously and he rolls his eyes. His attention falls back to his game again. You hover in the doorway awkwardly, watching as he quietly continues to play.

“Mind if I watch?” You find the courage to ask. Leviathan doesn’t say anything, so you walk in and settle down next to him. Upon closer inspection, the game he’s playing is remarkably similar to Animal Crossing. Although, there are some differences. For one, all the animals are significantly more... menacing. They all have horns, tails, or other features typical of demons. Even so, they’re cute. You watch Levi’s avatar walk around for a little, before he inexplicably comes to a stop. You have to resist the urge not to give him advice- you know he hates it when you try to advise him about games- and stay silent.

His avatar is standing before a glowing spot of green. You think it must be similar to the yellow glowing spot that indicates where Bells, the game currency, are buried. Levi frowns at his screen and digs it up. Just before he can patch up the hole in the ground, you grab his wrist.

“You can bury that, you know,” you point out. For a moment, there’s nothing but silence and you think your remark has gone unnoticed. Levi’s cursor remains hovering over the currency, which is apparently called Chimes. That can’t be a coincidence, you think to yourself mirthfully. “Then, it’ll make a tree. Like a money tree.”

“Yeah, sure,” Levi says with a roll of his eyes, clearly not believing you. You shake your head and take the controller from him, ignoring his startled screech and burying the currency. Sure enough, it works and his avatar is now standing in front of a sapling. Leviathan is completely silent for several moments, while your heart races in your chest. “Hm.”

“I’m surprised you didn’t know that,” you blurt out, entirely unable to stop yourself. Levi freezes, his hands entirely still around the controller. Despite the near murderous aura rising around him, the words keep falling from your mouth. “It was pretty obvious-”

“Shut up.” You’re suddenly shoved down against the couch. Leviathan looms over you, a furious expression on his face. His eyes are gleaming and his tail is swishing angrily behind him. His hands dig into your wrists painfully. You flinch and close your eyes, but he doesn’t do anything more than tower over you.

“Okay, okay, sorry,” you say sincerely. Guilt stews in your chest at the thought that he took your taunts seriously. “I was just joking. You’re obviously a skilled gamer. Hell, if Ruri-chan played video games, you’d beat her at them.” Okay, you’re laying it on a bit thick. It seems to work, though, as Leviathan gets off of you and picks his controller back up again.

“Hmph,” the demon remarks, gradually shifting back to his normal form. He returns to his original position and picks up his controller again. There’s a slight frown on his face. “No one is better than Ruri-chan.”

“True,” you shrug. Levi raises his eyebrows. Even though his gaze is locked on the screen, you can tell that he’s thinking about what you just said. You grimace. Was it the wrong thing to say? Perhaps you shouldn’t have presumed-

“You get it,” Levi nods, his attention back on his game before long. You chance a sidelong glance at him, only to find that there’s a strange smile on his face. In a sudden burst of spontaneity, you decide to lean your head against his shoulder. The demon stiffens and, for a few seconds, you’re convinced that he’ll shove you away. Thankfully, he doesn’t do anything of the sort. Instead, Levi just... continues playing.

Time passes and you’re beginning to nod off. It's fun watching Levi play, but the game isn’t exactly violent or crazy enough to keep your attention for long. You find your gaze wandering to Henry swimming around. Idly, you wonder if Henry could use some more fish companions. The thought doesn’t compel you for very long, as you realize that the goldfish looks happy enough.

You try to return your attention back to the game Levi’s playing, you really do. Unfortunately, it isn't interesting enough to keep your eyes open. Furthermore, Levi doesn’t really seem like he wants to talk. You frown and relax from your position leaned against his shoulder. Your eyelids are growing heavier by the second. Eventually, you give up on trying to stay awake and close your eyes.

You’re drifting off into sleep when you hear a murmur. It’s too quiet for you to comprehend, so instead, you keep your eyes closed and let your exhaustion take over. The last sensation you register before succumbing to sleep is Levi leaning closer to you, as if supporting your form and allowing you to remain upright.

on knowing another

(longpost i’m so sorry guys it came to me in the shower)

There’s a vague undercurrent of a theme in the Penumbra Podcast about knowing another person. It’s subtle, but it pops up every so often. It’s shown in the way we get to know the characters, especially as we get an insight into their minds in season 3, but it’s also shown in their relationships with each other, and that’s what I want to explore a little bit more.

Peter Nureyev, as we get to know him.

In season 1, Nureyev waltzes into Juno’s life

"JUNO: out of nowhere on a beam of goddamn starlight"

in Juno’s own words, and we all see him as some incredible, untouchable, unbelievably sexy master thief who’s interested in Juno for some unknowable reason (maybe that’s the Juno kinnie speaking idk). We think he’s cool, we think he’s funny, we think he’s dangerous and we think we love him but really, we’re just interested in him. We don’t actually know him yet.

And then, we have Angel of Brahma. We see his past, from his own perspective. And that’s not how knowing another is supposed to happen, you’re not supposed to be thrust into it headfirst, but that’s what we get with Nureyev, and so one second we don’t know him, and the next, we know him better than anyone else, because we’ve seen that he isn’t perfect. Not because he was wrong to kill Mag, that’s a whole different debate, but because he was put in a difficult situation in which there was no right choice. It is impossible for any person to be perfect, and so it was impossible for us and for Juno to truly know Nureyev until we knew what made him flawed.

Diamond Hijikata

Let’s travel back in time a bit, to when Juno was with Diamond. We see Diamond Hijikata from Juno’s point of view, we know her the way Juno knew her, and it is impossible for us to know her any other way, because we only ever see her through Juno’s eyes. Juno thought Diamond was flawless. I might be projecting a little here, because I thought Diamond was flawless. Every time I listen to Embrace of Ice, I fall in love with the version of Diamond Hijikata in Juno’s head. Sometimes, she says things that don’t quite fit with that version, and I brush it off, because Diamond Hijikata is impeccable, perfect, and so even if she sounds a little condescending at times, even if she sounds like she sees Juno as a toy to play with, as a way to piss of her mother, I don’t believe it. I choose to trust her instead. Because I think I know her.

And then, we get the scene in the third part of Embrace of Ice.

“JUNO: I thought I knew who you were. DIAMOND: You do, doll. Nothing's changed. You've just... learned more.”

But everything’s changed. Diamond isn’t who I thought she was, who Juno thought she was. Her name was Diamond Hijikata, sure. She went to college. She had friends, mostly troublemakers. She liked protests, and standing up for things, and pissing off her mother. She didn’t like flaunting how privileged she was. And that paints a certain picture, doesn’t it? Of a girl who stands up for what she believes in, who uses her own privilege to help those who don’t have any, who refuses to let corrupt authority keep her down; and it’s hard not to fall in love with someone like that. But that’s not who Diamond Hijikata was.

Diamond Hijikata was bored and rebellious. Captain H says so, at the very start of Embrace of Ice.

“HIJIKATA: Doesn't believe a word of what she says when she gets like that. JUNO: I don't think so. When she gets on a tear, she's so…”

Juno doesn’t agree with her. Juno thinks Diamond thinks like he does, that she believes in what she fights for. But when those fights threaten her own life, her own privilege, she backs down, and we are struck with the ugly truth that Diamond doesn’t believe in what she fights for. She doesn’t actually want to help those who are disadvantaged. I’m not even sure she sees Juno as an equal. And the sad fact is, I don’t know who Diamond is anymore. Neither does Juno. And I don’t even know who to be mad at anymore. Diamond hasn’t broken my heart, because the Diamond I was in love with never existed anywhere except in my head. If I had to bet, I’d say Juno feels the same way. And so he doesn’t love Diamond anymore, he never did, but he doesn’t hate her either, because:

“JUNO: The older I get, the harder it is to blame someone for being the most honest version of themselves, no matter how ugly the truth is. I'll take it over a pretty lie every time.”

The thing is, Diamond isn’t a bad person. And you can hear that in her little monologue in Embrace of Ice part 3.

“DIAMOND: Because I’m not a bad person. I'm not.”

She’s right, in a sense. She didn’t really do anything wrong. She wasn’t in on her mother’s plans, she wasn’t trying to thwart Juno at every turn. All she knew was where the ballroom was. She even has a cute little story to go with it. It’s so human, so understandable. But it’s human in a way none of us expected of Diamond Hijikata, because she is not the version of her we have in our heads. If we really knew her, we wouldn’t have been surprised at her actions. So Diamond didn’t betray us, not really. She didn’t intentionally decieve Juno or intend to cause him harm. She just wasn’t who Juno thought she was. And that’s why her actions seems so surprising, why it feels like a betrayal: because we don’t know her. That’s why the thought of her hurts so much: because how are you supposed to mourn losing the person you loved if they never even existed in the first place?

(god, fuck, this whole essay began because I couldn’t stop thinking about Diamond Hijikata, she hurts me so much I can’t even decide how to feel about her. send help.)

Peter Nureyev again

We see inside Nureyev’s mind in season 3, and everyone jokes about how much of a mess he is, but the fact is we love him anyway. And we don’t love him despite it, we love him because of it, because loving another is knowing another and seeing their flaws and saying “I understand”. This ties into what Juno says to Vespa before the wedding:

“JUNO: …everyone thinks they know you, right? They make up a version of you in their heads, and if you don’t play the part right they start asking questions. Sometimes with words. VESPA: Sometimes with a look. I know. JUNO: Yeah. “What’s wrong,” “are you okay,” “you seem angry”... all that. But... I don’t know. One day I wasn’t playing the role the best and I could tell he just didn’t mind. Or... he’d already stretched the role out until it actually fit me. And I realized I’d already done the same thing for him.”

Juno knows Nureyev now. So far, he’s seen Nureyev switch between personas, seen Nureyev when he isn’t playing anyone, been inside his head, lived with him for a year and talked with him extensively about their relationship (I don’t remember any quotes for this one, but I’m pretty sure they mention it in season 3 at some point. Might be Shadows on the Ship?). He knows Nureyev, well enough that the version in his head fits Nureyev perfectly, and so Juno can be certain that the man he loves really is Peter Nureyev, and not a version of him, because he knows Peter Nureyev.

Slip Jackson

Little shift in perspective now, let’s stop focusing on Juno for a second. Slip Jackson, Nureyev’s ex, the guy who’s been driving the plot of the story for the past year or so despite being in a coma. He’s Nureyev’s first love, and he and Nureyev spend a lot of time toying with the idea of knowing each other. They knew each other when they were kids, about 10 years old, and they meet again 6 or 7 years later by chance. A lot has changed in that time — it might not seem like a lot to an adult, but kids develop rapidly, and don’t stop until about 25, so they’ve both really changed since they saw each other last, and they’ll continue to change. They’re young, and still learning who they are (god, it feels so weird to write that when I’m not much older, but anyways).

And so when Nureyev learns that Slip still does drugs, he’s a little horrified, because he doesn’t understand how Slip could be willing to take that risk. Slip clearly hasn’t developed or matured in the way Nureyev thought he would, and the two of them realise that they don’t really know each other all that well. Slip asks if he’d like to try drugs, and Nureyev refuses, and that’s that for a while. But then they live together for a while, and Slip offers Nureyev a way off Brahma, and he tells him about his dream, about the drug he wants to make. And Nureyev, who’s just figured out that he has the biggest crush on this man, decides he wants to know him a little better.

“NUREYEV: I... would like to try one, I think. Is your offer still open? SLIP: I don't... that's really nice of you, but I don't want you to think you have to try it just to, um, make me feel better, so-- NUREYEV: It isn't to make you feel better. It's to know you, Slip. And I think I'm finding I'd like to know you quite well.”

(Alexa, what’s the most romantic way to tell your boyfriend you want to do drugs with him?)

Then they run away to Saraswati together, and Slip goes on all these secret outings which Nureyev can’t follow him on for a while. Nureyev is forced to trust Slip, to place his life in his hands, but they’re still getting to know each other, and unlike with Juno and Diamond, Nureyev is aware that the version of Slip in his head might not match up with the real Slip. So, he gets paranoid, and the entire mess with the poker game and the executives happens.

But after it, they have a talk. A good one. This is one of the things I love about Slip: he makes Nureyev talk about his feelings, and he’s really good at putting things into perspective. You see it in the latest episode, too, with how they talk about Mag. It’s not perfect, but it seems incredibly mature for someone his age (though, again, not sure how much authority I have on the age aspect of this).

“SLIP: A person can't just tell you who they are cuz we're all too complicated for that. I wouldn't know where to start, and even if I tried, I'd miss most of everything and maybe you'd think I was hiding those things from you, but it wouldn't be true. Too much of me is invisible to me because I'm around it all the time, every day. You can try to see the world from someone else's point of view, but at the end of the day... we're all just ourselves. THIS. This is basically the point of this whole essay (it’s so much longer than I intended I’m so sorry). I start chewing on my own bone marrow every time I listen to this, because he’s so right.

Knowing someone isn’t knowing big things, like their name, or face, or random fun facts about their life. Those are things you pick up along the way. Knowing someone else isn’t knowing what their favourite colour is, it’s them telling you what their favourite colour is and you realising that it makes sense they would like that colour, that it fits in with the image of them in your head. Knowing someone isn’t knowing all their layers, their past, their future, though all those things are important in their own way. Knowing someone is understanding the essence of them, the soul underneath all those layers, the sense of self, of who they are which philosophers have been trying to define for centuries, which Peter Nureyev has been trying to erase from himself for decades.

Slip and Nureyev loved each other because they loved everything they knew about each other, and wanted to know more. Slip’s loss hits Nureyev like a bulldozer because he never really gets to know who Slip is — the chance is taken away from him, and Nureyev is convinced it’s all his fault. He’s determined to bring Slip back so he can finally know who Slip is, even though he’s trying to erase himself so there’s nothing left of himself to love back.

And then, season 5. Yowzers.

“NUREYEV: You think you know me. The nameless thief. You presume, just because I've told you my real name and let you peruse a few carefully-curated passages of my life story, that you have access to a "real" me that nobody else does. Is that right? JUNO: This isn't gonna work, Nureyev. That journal was true. I know it was. NUREYEV: (LAUGHS) How could you possibly? JUNO: Because I know you. NUREYEV: You know what I've shown you. Nothing more. JUNO: Can't help but notice you haven't said it yet. NUREYEV: I don't need to play your game. JUNO: If you don't care it'd be really easy to. "I never want to see you again." Like that. NUREYEV: Childish! JUNO: Once you let somebody know you, Nureyev, there's no going back. They've got your number. Chances are you got theirs, too. I let you know who I am because I love you and I'm scared as hell about what that means, but at least I can admit it, goddammit!”

Nureyev is desperately pushing the idea that Juno doesn’t know him, that Nureyev’s been lying all along, that the “Peter Nureyev” Juno knew was just another persona, that Juno never really knew the real Nureyev, just like he never knew the real Diamond. Because if Juno doesn’t know Nureyev, he can’t possibly love him, and that makes it so much easier to break up with him.

But there’s just one catch here. Juno does know Nureyev. As much as Nureyev wants to pretend that all Juno saw was what he let him see, it’s not true. Juno saw right to the core of him, right to the beating heart of what makes Peter Nureyev Peter Nureyev, and he refused to look away until he knew every inch by heart, and he loved what he knew. He still does. And that’s how he knows that Nureyev needs his help now, that’s why he’s not giving up on our favourite master thief.

And that is why this:

“NUREYEV: I do not want to see you any more, Juno. JUNO: What? NUREYEV: You said it would just take those words to excise you from my life entirely, didn't you? Well, I've said them. I have no interest in seeing you any longer. None. I am done. We are finished. Do you understand me? JUNO: Yeah, I get you. So I guess I'll just... go now. NUREYEV: No! JUNO: I... what? NUREYEV: I... that is, you…”

didn’t surprise me. Well, the first bit did. But the turnaround made complete sense. Don’t get me wrong, it’s really shitty of Nureyev to do, but he’s at a point in his life where he’s not sure he can handle Juno being in his life, but he loves him far too much to tell him to leave. Even after he breaks up with him, he immediately backtracks.

And that’s why Juno keeps implying throughout the episode that Nureyev might take him back, and why he doesn’t leave at the end despite promising he would. Because he and I both know that Nureyev doesn’t want him to.

Juno never really hides who he is, and so people either love him or hate him. I think that’s really cool of him.

Nureyev hides who he is almost constantly, from almost everyone. It’s so much easier for him to pretend he did the same with Juno, and that’s what he’s trying to do. But he didn’t, so Juno isn’t giving up on him. Juno knows Nureyev, and he loves Nureyev, and so he’s not going to rest until Nureyev is finally okay (or relatively okay, at least).

TLDR: Juno didn't know Diamond all that well, so he couldn't be with her. Nureyev decided he wanted to know Slip so that he could learn to love him, but the opportunity was taken away from him. Juno comes to know Nureyev and he loves him because of it, but Nureyev is determined to go back to being unknown in season 5 so he can distance himself from Juno and pretend they're not in love. Knowing someone and loving them are linked, blah blah blah.

idk man I don’t have a conclusion these are just thoughts. Loving someone is inherently tied to knowing them, ig. Anyways who’s excited for Nureyev to have a mental breakdown???!!

Shes honestly scared to meet your family and has only met two, Killua and Alluka who were absolute sweethearts, mainly Alluka because when she first met Killua she was met with remarks about her ankles. But she loved Alluka and they grew very close and basically became an older sister to Alluka.

Kou Minamoto

Was very intrigued in the way you talked and carried yourself, and immediately assumed that you were from some important clan and when he found out you were, he immediately wanted to get to know you

Although he was scared at first, that didn’t stop him. Kou is a very nice guy and didn’t rlly take your short stoic answers to heart much and just assumed that it was hard for you to talk to people and he won’t judge at all

Is honestly very terrified to meet your family and has met your dad and grandpa who’d didn’t say much to him except for a formal greeting. Has also accidentally met Illumi and almost felt like he was going to piss himself so he excused himself and ran to where you were very quickly. Thinks your sister is the cutest ever and wants her to meet Tiara one day. Killua and him often get into petty arguments but it’s all fun.

Somehow, that's scarier than your initial merciless demeanor

He's glad you love him and all, but chill???

But he's super glad that talking to him helps you forget the struggles from your past

Hearing of your self loathing made him super sad

He hates that you lived in such a toxic environment, and he truly believes you deserve better

Especially since you once felt that you needed to die and cleanse yourself of your "filthy" blood before confessing to him

He's there for you if you need to talk

Makoto greatly admires your determination as well

Even when you're exhausted or injured, you keep on going until the end

But he worries about you a lot and wants you to take care of yourself

Overall, even though you worry him a lot, Makoto is a very sweet and loving partner towards you

He loves you for all of you, and he'll be there for you no matter what

She finds you very interesting

Your harshness never bothered her too much, but she does wish you would be gentler towards others

She doesn't think people from the Reserve Course deserve to be berated, and she'll probably step in on some occasion

She knows a guy in the Reserve Course cough cough Hajimemes so she doesn't appreciate the meanness

She does enjoy your kindness towards her though

She loves the gifts you give her, and that you share your food with her as well

She's super glad talking to her is helpful for you

It makes her feel special, in a way

Hearing that you really didn't like yourself made her sad

But she understands how growing up in a bad environment can do it to you

She's always there to talk if you need it

And when you told her that you felt you needed to die and purify your blood, she was highly concerned

Aside from that, she admires your determination

But she makes sure you take care of yourself

So, Chiaki is super sweet, but can be stern with you

Though she did watch you a little bit because you were also cool

But when you actually started growing closer, she was shocked at how much different you acted around her

Instead of berating her, you gave her sweet gifts and shared your meals with her

It's so jarring at first, but she loves that she gets special attention

Part of her would like for you to be nice to everyone, but she also loves how only she gets to see this side of you

But anyway

She hates that you don't like yourself

Although, as sad as it is, it takes one to know one

She didn't grow up in the most positive environment either, so she understands how it can take a toll

But she's more than willing to lend an ear if you need to talk

And the statement about dying and cleansing your blood deeply disturbed her

She really admires your determination as well

You're very strong-willed, and she loves that about you

But please don't overwork or hurt yourself too much, or she will freak the hell out

Aside from that, he does enjoy your acts of affection

But he will provide comfort as best as he can

Went to the doctor today. Got diagnosed with Sol Badguy disease. The doctor told me it was terminal, brother. I lit a cigarette and walked home to tell my wife. I get back, ready to deliver the news. She cuts me off and hands me an envelope. She tells me it’s important. My thing is important too but it’s cool, I don’t mind going second.

I take the envelope, open it with my teeth because I accidentally threw away the letter opener last week. Glitter explodes out of it. Glitter everywhere. My mouth. My eyes. My hair. My flesh. I’ll be sparkling until the day I die. My wife glitter bombed me. She’s laughing at the expression on my face. It must be a pretty good sight but then again she’s an easy laugher. It’s a good sound.

Even with this diagnosis, I think I’ll be okay. I’m not alone, am I? I’m thinking I need to make her an appointment though. She’s been eyeing pumpkins lately.

If you don't treat it now you'll end up like me, a certified Sol Badguy kinnie. 8 months into making an Outrage in real life, owner of a custom red leather jacket... You'll wake up one day and realize you've got an outfit with no less than 12 belts, some of them in odd places like your thighs. Hope you and your wife like Queen, motorcycles, and shitty beer.

My name is Rachele, but all my friends call me kele. @romano-kinnie and I were talking on the discord server about the biggest fight spamano ever had, and here's a drabble about it.

Neither could really remember how they had gotten into this fight, but maybe it did not actually matter. Romano just wanted to defuse the situation, that was all that mattered right now. “Stop pretending like you’re not human, Antonio! You’re as human as the rest of us nations. We may be nations, but we feel and act and die like mortals, even if it takes a longer time. We’re human, just like them.”

“… No.” Spain’s calmness took Romano aback. They had both been yelling at each other for at least an hour, and when they got into real arguments like this, Spain was rarely the one to concede first.

“The hell do you mean, no?”

“You may be, everyone else may be, but I’m not. Not really. I’ve told you time and time again, you make me human. If it weren’t for you–”

That just pissed Romano off again, and he was back to yelling, “That’s exactly what I’m fucking talking about! It’s not true, you’re being stupid like always, and you need to let go of this silly fear from ages ago–”

Spain just raised his brows, seemingly perfectly at ease, “Oh, yeah? Like you’ve let go of all your fears from your childhood, Romanito?”

Romanito. Spain never called him that, not in the last half-millennium of their ever-changing relationship. Not since they had gotten to know each other’s fears, dreams, hopes, and what made them tick. Little Roman. A most hated nickname, one that reminded Romano of all his flaws and imperfections. A reminder of an inferiority complex he had gotten so good at ignoring that most people thought him arrogant. A reminder that he had been abandoned and never could meet anyone’s expectations, least of all his own. His breath hitched, and he felt tears form in the corner of his eyes, “… that was just low.”

“Well, that’s what I am.”

After what Spain had just said, Romano had no wish to defend him. Not from himself at least.

“I’m cruel, and messy, and wicked, and I need you. At least if you want me to be anything else.” Spain smiled the fakest smile Romano has ever seen, and held out his arms as if expecting Romano to embrace him – or hit him. “Don’t you see? Without you, I’m nothing.”

“… That’s…” Romano had no desire to even touch Spain, not when he was acting like this, “if you really think so, you don’t fucking deserve me, you asshole.”

“No, I don’t. I never have.” He shrugged ever so nonchalantly, as if he was shrugging off all the weight of the Southern half of Italy.

“Fine.” Romano’s tone was ice cold, and Spain knew it was anything but. If he was less furious, he would give Romano a smile, a real smile, and tell him he was sorry, grovel at his beloved’s feet and tell him that he did not mean it. But Spain meant what he said, and he was not going to take it back. After what felt like a year, Romano said, “I’m fucking leaving then. Since my presence is so fucking humanising to you. Must be humiliating to feel like that, Ánto. I’m sure a big colonising ex-empire like you don’t need someone like me around to be human with.”

Romano knew exactly what he was doing, because Spain was not the only one with access to the matches and gasoline in their relationship. Spain’s eyes clouded over for a moment, “you’re right, that’s what you want to hear, isn’t it? Well, you are. I don’t need you as a nation. I never needed you to be a nation. But how long until you start feeling lonely, Romano? There’s not a lot of men around who can stand your tongue.”

“I can have anyone I damn well want! I’m leaving, and you’ll have to come crawling back if you ever want to even look at me again.”

“You know I won’t. You’ll be the one to crawl back to me first.”

“No, I won’t.”

They glared at each other, and Romano wanted to lean forward and apologise for everything, yet at the same time, he felt his own stubbornness rise within him. Before he could make up his mind, Spain huffed, and said, “Fine.” he turned on his feet, storming off as if he could not get away fast enough. Romano knew exactly where he was headed, but he was not so weak as to follow him.

“Fine!” Romano yelled after him. He left and he did not look back.
