a/n: hello! IT'S FINALLY OUT WOOHOO, it's a bit long but i had a lot of fun writing it. certain characters may be a bit ooc so i do apologize as i'm still getting my footing on how to characterize certain people. let me know what you think! constructive criticism is always welcome and appreciated (just pls don't be mean lol)! i left a somewhat open-ish ending because i wanna make this into a series/universe, and will start taking requests for drabbles in this universe, depending on how this is received! - luna :)

“I’m in. Robin, what’s your status?” Bruce spoke into the earpiece, swiftly moving through the shadows of the lab. It was a simple mission: get into the lab Lex Luthor had created under Gotham City, collect intel needed to take down said lab, and leave. Unfortunately, it’s never really that simple, is it?
“I’m in, making my way through the west wing, cover is still intact,” Damian muttered back.
“Good. Nightwing?”
“Just entered the center lab, heading down to the bottom level now, haven't been spotted,” Dick said, making his way down the steps, careful to remain silent.
“Good. Remember the objective. In and Out.” Bruce muttered as he continued, searching for the locked file cabinet he was looking for.
“Files located. Ready for extraction” Damian said quietly through the intercom.
“I’ve made it to the bottom level. Requesting immediate backup, there's something here you guys need to see” Dick’s voice echoed through the earpiece, “They’ve made another clone.”
Bruce stopped what he was doing, silently making his way down the hall towards the staircase Dick took around a half hour before, “I'm on my way. Damian?”
“Heading there now. Files are downloaded.”
Upon arriving at the lower level, Dick bypasses security to let them in, making sure to reactivate the lock behind them, “Look.”
He gestured to the incubation tube not far from them, inside of it stood a young woman, who looked no older than 20, wearing a black skin-tight suit, a familiar “S” symbol adorning her chest, only it was the center of another symbol, the bat symbol, with bat ears at the top and bat wings on either side of it, a dark burgundy color with gold lining along the edges. The plaque below the tube read:
Attempt 1: G6B24
Specimen 1: Superman (Identity: Unknown)
Specimen 2: Batman (Identity: Unknown)
Status: Failed - Shows excessive signs of emotional intelligence (unfit for purpose), Subject is not invulnerable, Lacks thermal vision
‘Emotional Intelligence’ you must have shown hesitation, a moral compass.
“Father… what are we going to do?” Damian asked, he was at a loss, part of him felt slightly threatened, if you were taken in, he would no longer be the only child related to Bruce by DNA, and you were older, stronger— perhaps you would take his place, the place he’d finally felt he truly belonged; however he remained silent, his past self likely would have attempted to argue against your rescue, but he’d grown, he knew deep down you deserved a chance at this life just as much as he did.
Bruce looked up at your unconscious figure, at a loss for words, you were his daughter, intentional or not, there was a part of him in you, he only hoped that part wouldn't screw you over for life. As surprised as he was, he had an obligation to you the same way he did with Dick, Jason, Tim, Cass, Steph, Barbara, Duke, Damian, and every other vigilante he had taken under his wing.
His Batman instincts kicked in very quickly though, immediately refocusing himself, reading through the files, in an attempt to prepare himself for any possible scenario, he turned to Dick.
“Find all the DNA samples they have belonging to both me and Superman, we’re taking them,” he said, making sure to not hyper-focus on the thoughts flooding his mind.
“We’re not just leaving her here, are we? The plaque says ‘failed’. Who knows what could happen to her?” Dick said, he was frustrated.
Conner had gotten a chance to build a life for himself. You deserved one too, the mere thought of Bruce wanting to leave you there angered him.
“She’s coming with us. Damian, watch the door, Dick, find the samples," Bruce said gruffly, moving to the tube, bypassing the database to open it, without setting off any system safeguards. He reached into his utility belt and pulled out his shard of kryptonite, just in case it was needed to neutralize you.
The tube opened slowly, a swoosh sound filling the air as the cold fog escaped the tube, spilling into the air, your eyes fluttering open as you looked around, your eyes focusing on him.
You flew at him, full speed, pushing him against the wall with a thud, knocking the wind out of him, your eyes boring into his, glowing red, just as you were about to terminate him with your heat vision, he uttered the safe word he had seen in your file.
“Blue Pineapple” he grunted out, the red in your eyes fading away instantly, as you stared at him with wide eyes. You backed away slowly, lowering yourself to the floor. Your eyes fixed on him once again.
You recognized him from your programming, the man whose combat skills were engraved into your mind.
“Batman?”
Dick and Damian rushed over, making sure Bruce was okay. He was fine.
Dick turned to you, holding out his hand, “Come with me. We need to get you out of here, you aren’t safe here.”
You stared at him, your eyes narrowing, “Why should I trust you?”
Dick sighed, Those damn Wayne genetics, he kept his hand extended to you, “Because we’re helping you escape, if you come with us, you can meet Superman, be a hero just like him and Batman, you could actually see the world” he promised.
"I know what the world looks like." you stated bluntly.
He sighed, his hand not wavering, "But have you ever experienced it? Let us show you what that's like. You can have a life."
You thought for a moment, before letting out a small grunt, nodding at him and taking his hand, allowing them to lead you out of the lab grounds seemingly undetected.
When you stepped out, you stopped, eyes completely transfixed on the brilliant night sky. Blends of blues and purples and grays danced together to make the beautiful endless abyss above you. You knew every color there was. You knew everything, but at the same time you really didn't. You stared up at the stars, you knew how they came to be, you knew every scientific explanation there was yet seeing them… it made you feel a way you couldn’t explain.
They led you to the batmobile, situating you in the back seat with Damian, starting the drive to the Batcave. Bruce dialed Clark’s number into the keypad, it rang twice before he picked up.
“Hello?”
“Meet me in the Batcave. It’s urgent. Bring Conner.”
“What’s going o-”
He hung up.
Dick covered his mouth to hide his snicker, “So, Bruce, you and Clark have an official love child now, right? What will Lois think?” he feigned concern, placing the back of his hand over his forehead, committing to the drama, “Oh, how scandalous, I mean really, the shame! I can already see the headlines ‘Billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne turned common whore after breaking up happy metropolis family’”
Damian covered his laugh with a cough.
You looked at the three of them, utterly confused, still processing what was going on.
Bruce huffed, shooting them both a glare, “Dick, be mature.”
Dick smiled, “I can't help myself, just wait til Jason finds out.” He smiled in excitement, as they pulled into the side entrance of the Batcave.
Bruce let out a deep, tired sigh.

Clark sat in silence in the Batcave, Conner standing to his left, his eyes wide as he stared at you, possessing some features belonging to both he and Bruce, and other features that seemed to be entirely your own.
You stared back, that same stoic nature radiating off of you that radiates off the Batman, however, he noted the defensive look in your eyes, one so similar to the one he saw in Conner when he first met him. He eyed your suit, noting the familiar “S” symbol, only it was a burgundy color, a rather interesting combination of the Batman and Superman emblems, and he was utterly confused.
He looked over at Bruce, still in his bat suit, his cowl pulled off, “Bruce, what the hell is going on?”
“I had to call you here because Luthor decided to create another clone. I did the DNA test, Clark, she’s a combination of both our DNA” Bruce looked at him, Dick and Damian standing to his right. It was silent for a moment, you felt like a guinea pig, the way they all stared at you. It made you angry.
Conner was the first to speak, stepping forward before opening his mouth, choosing his words carefully, “What’s your name?”
You responded immediately, it felt automatic. “Experiment attempt number one. Code G6B24. I was made to be the future killer of the Batman and the Kriptonian.”
He nodded slowly, “I’m a clone too, and Clark took me in— well, he took me in eventually— that’s besides the point. He showed me how to become my own person, we can help you do that too.”
You looked at him, eyes softening ever so slightly, but you kept your guard up like your Batman programming taught you to. “I was made to be a killer, if I don’t do what I was made to do, what am I worth?” you said quietly, voice unwavering.
Damian watched you, your words striking him in a way he hadn't expected them to, he understood what you were saying all too well.
Bruce decided to speak up next, “You were created, it’s not your fault what their intentions were when they did so. What you become from here on out is your choice.”
You stayed silent, eyes darting around the room—What is this feeling? Vulnerability? You knew it by definition, like you did most other feelings, but feeling them… it was different.
Dick noted the way you seemed overwhelmed, he approached you slowly, pulling up two chairs, motioning for you to sit, you chose to remain standing until he sat down first.
“You know, we trust you, we want to figure out a way for you to become the best you can be. On your terms” he said, offering you a small smile.
You looked around, the others nodded in agreement, “I was made to be only the best parts of you” you said, your gaze focusing on Clark and Bruce, they both put their best qualities forward to help others, how could you use those same qualities to destroy that?
“I… don’t want to be a killer. They said I was too… human. I thought I’d failed them.”
Damian decided to step forward, “You didn’t fail anyone, you are meant for greater things. You haven't killed anyone, you can choose your path. If the path you choose is the Robin mantle... I am willing to work with that.”
At this, the other men in the room turned to look at him, Clark and Conner were slack-jawed, this was the same kid who fought Tim tooth and nail over this mantle. The same mantle he was just… willing to give you?
Meanwhile Dick had a proud smile on his face, you thought you saw a small tear in his eye.
Bruce’s face seemed unreadable, however, you took notice of the way the corners of his lips turned up for a split second. before reverting back to their natural state.
You weren’t sure what to say, again, you knew what this mantle was, by definition. The reality was you had no sense of what it meant, the weight it carried. And you knew that.
“Thank you, but I feel like that title isn’t mine to take. I think I need to… become something that's true to who I am, whatever that may be.”
Bruce looked at you, the corner of his lip barely twitching up into a smile, a smile so subtle that only someone of your… background would notice, an attempt of his towards getting you more comfortable, “We should start with a name.”
You looked at Conner, he gave you an encouraging smile.
“Like I chose Conner, so now I’m Conner Kent,” he said with a small shrug, “You can choose whatever you want.”
“I see,” you thought for a moment, “I like Y/n.”
Clark smiled, standing up and clapping his hands together, “Great! Y/n Kent, has a nice ring to it.”
“Wayne.”
He turned towards Bruce, eyes narrowing slightly, “Kent.”
“Wayne.”
This time Conner spoke, “Kent.”
The three men stared at each other, arms crossed mirroring each-other’s glares.
Dick cut in, “How about Grayson?”
“No.” came their simultaneous response.
Dick frowned, slumping in the seat next to yours, “Jeez.”
Damian spoke next, “I suppose Al Ghul is off the table…”
Dick snorted, breaking out into a fit of laughter, you grinned softly at the sounds of his laughter, it reminded you of a windshield wiper.
Conner sighed, “Fine, what about Wayne-Kent?”
Bruce huffed, “I suppose.”
Clark nodded, the smile returning to his face as he turned to you, “Y/n Wayne-Kent”
You nodded, “I like it.”
Dick could help but laugh from beside you, “It's like I'm watching reality tv. Love me some baby mama drama.”
Clark opened his mouth to speak and closed it, before sighing and looking at Bruce, who just pinched the bridge of his nose.
Conner chuckled at the sight, turning to Damian, who’s lip quirked up in amusement.
Bruce looked up, his attention directed towards you, “Y/n, you can stay here for the night, I’ve asked Alfred to set up a room for you. Clark, Conner, come by tomorrow with Lois and Jon, I’ve called the others to come by as well, we’ll get everything situated tomorrow. For now, get some rest.”
Everyone nodded, Clark and Conner heading to the exit of the cave, Damian, Dick and Bruce leading you to the room that was prepared for you.
Dick brought you a sweater and some sweatpants to change into, closing the door with a soft, “Goodnight, kiddo.”
You changed in silence, slowly getting under the covers and drifting off to sleep, marking the start of your new life. Tomorrow would be an interesting day.
Tumblr media
You woke up the next morning, to a soft knock on the door, your super hearing picking it up better than you would have liked. You opened the door, revealing an older man you hadn’t seen before. He smiled softly, giving you an instantaneous sense of comfort you couldn’t explain.
“Hello Miss Y/n. My name is Alfred, I am the butler,” he greeted you, handing you a folded set of clothes, “Master Kent chose these for you, however if they are not to your liking, do let me know.”
“They’re fine…Thank you.”
He smiled warmly, the kind old man giving you a nod, “Once you've changed, do come down, I’ve prepared breakfast. The other members of the family will arrive soon to meet you.”
You gave him a short nod, he smiled again, your demeanor reminding him of the young Bruce he’d looked after all those years ago. He shut your door softly before retreating down the staircase, leaving you in your room to change.
You picked up the small note that rested at the top of the pile, reading it over.
Comfortable, Practical, and cool. Hope you like it. - Conner
You looked down at the neatly folded clothes, unfolding a black long sleeve turtleneck shirt, the material was thick but breathable, you slipped it on with ease, the foreign material soft against your skin, you appreciated that it didn’t suffocate you.
You reached for the pants next, dark gray cargo pants, these were thicker, and the had an overwhelming amount of pockets. You slipped them on before slipping on the boots that were at the bottom of the stack and exiting the room, going down the staircase.
Upon entering the dining room, you were met with Bruce sitting at the head of the table, reading the paper calmly eating his pancakes, to his right sat Dick chatting excitedly to the boy next to him, who smiled at him as he listened, he was a slender boy with black hair who looked a bit younger than Dick. Then there was Alred, calmly enjoying his breakfast. Finally there was Damian on the other side of Bruce, leaving an empty seat between Damian and Alred. You sat down, the pale boy noticing you first.
Bruce looked up, “Tim, this is Y/n.”
“Hello.” You sat up awkwardly. One thing you never learned was how to navigate social interactions.
He studied you for a moment, offering you a small smile, “I’m Tim.”
You gave a nod, returning his smile with a smaller one of your own.
“She knows, by the way.” Dick chimed in.
His eyes widened, was that why you were there?
“How?”
All eyes are on you. You opened your mouth to speak but Damian spoke first.
“She’s a clone. Father will explain everything when everyone else arrives so as to not waste time, until then, hold on to your childish curiosity. I’d like to enjoy my breakfast.”
Dick nodded, “She was literally made for this shit.”
“Watch your language Master Dick, it is deplorable to speak in such a way at the table, much less in the presence of a lady.”
Dick blushed, “Sorry Alfred.”
Bruce simply gave a nod.
Tim slumped back in his seat, wanting to ask you questions about your abilities, your earliest memories, who were you a clone of, how your programming worked, the boy was itching to know it all.
Breakfast passed by relatively quickly after that, you weren’t bombarded with questions, much to your relief. Alfred kindly asked you how you slept to which you replied that you slept well. The sound of casual conversation and glassware scraping together filling the room. You enjoyed observing the atmosphere.
Tumblr media
Clark and Conner were the first to arrive at the manor, greeting you happily, with them was a woman and a younger boy, who immediately went to sit by Damian.
Clark brought them over to you, the woman smiled warmly at you. It made you feel safe.
She held your hand in hers, “My name is Lois,” her voice was kind, genuine. You noted how she carried herself. Strong, secure, honest.
Clark was quick to bring Jon over, excited to introduce him, “This is my son, Jon.”
“Hi!”  he beamed at you, you smiled, he was cute. Cheerful as he smiled brightly at you.
“Hello, my name is Y/n.” you greeted the two, who smiled at you.
Conner was the next to approach, “Did you like the clothes? I picked them out cause it was all I used to wear, but who knows, you may want something more… fashionable.”
You smiled softly, “They're nice, thank you.”
“On that note actually,” Clark said, “I was thinking we can take you shopping later, Bruce and I can pay.”
Bruce deadpanned, “That’s a joke, right?”
He smiled, “Of course, you’re paying for everything.”
“Sounds about right.”
Chatter filled the room not long after, Jon and Damian catching up on the couch while Conner and Tim started a conversation of their own.
The next people to arrive were three young women, blonde, brunette, and red hair. They had arrived together.
The blonde spoke first, “Why'd you call us here Bruce? We had planned for brunch.” She bitterly narrowed her eyes at him, the brunette behind her giving a short nod of agreement.
Bruce sighed, “We’re waiting on Jason. He’s late.”
“As always.” The redhead said with a sigh, though you could see she wasn't actually upset.
The blonde girl turned to you first smiling, “I’m Stephanie, but call me Steph. I’m assuming you’ll be joining our vigilante posse.” She seemed funny, and kind, like she truly cared for those around her.
“Somewhat, I don’t really know. I’m Y/n.” You said bluntly.
“Pretty name.” She smiled, gesturing to the red haired woman behind her, “This is Barbara, but she's really just Babs.” She then gestured to the brunette, “That’s Cass. She’s lovely.”
You looked at them and nodded, “It’s nice to meet you.”
Barbara smiled warmly at you, “You too, I’m so glad there’ll be another girl around, we can always use more company.” She smiled at you so kindly, despite having only just met you. Her voice was sweet, like honey.
Cass smiled softly at you, “Come to brunch with us later. Or, lunch, now since Jason is holding us up.”
You nodded your lip quirking up into a small smile, “I’d enjoy that.”
Truthfully, you didn't know what the fuck brunch was. But she said lunch and that you knew. You'd find out about brunch later.
Then, as if on cue, the man in question arrived, walking through the door, slipping off his brown jacket and tossing it on the couch. He was tall, with a stocky frame, jet black hair with a white streak on the front.
“This better be good.”
Tim mumbled, “Finally”
“Miss me Timmy?”
“Quite the contrary.”
The one called Jason laughed before giving him a small nudge, to which Tim swatted his hand away.
His eyes fixed on you, then on Bruce.
“Dude, seriously? Another one? You have a problem man. You’d think you would’ve stopped after me.”
Bruce stood up, “Jason, sit down. Now that you’re all here I wanted to introduce you to Y/n. She’s a clone, made from both mine, and Clark’s DNA.”
“Holy shit, man.”
“Jason, will you shut up?”
“Never.”
“As I was saying, she’ll be here in the manor for the time being, I’ll be training her and assessing her combat technique.”
“Hold on,” Clark interjected, “She should come with us, she needs to get the hang of her powers.”
“Clark, I have a state of the art training area in the cave.”
“So? We’re supers, all we need is an open field.”
“We need to assess her combat skills, and also assess the extent of her powers. She isn’t invulnerable. We need to prioritize getting to the bottom of that.”
Clark huffed but nodded, understanding the full extent of your abilities was vital in actually training you.
“It’s like I’m watching a custody battle.” muttered Steph, Barbara laughing quietly beside her.
“Wait- So Y/n is basically if you and Clark had a baby?” Tim gawked at them, his eyes shifting from Bruce to Clark, to you. When his eyes landed on you, he fired questions like he was on a time limit.
“How do Bruce’s genetics affect your abilities? Are you immune to kryptonite and invulnerable? How does your thermal vision work? Enhanced strength? Can you fly? Can you fly as fast as Superman? Do you have combat training? How do y-”
Conner smacked a hand over his mouth, leading him back to his seat, “Lets try not to overwhelm her with the questions.” He chuckled.
Tim nodded, looking up at you, “Sorry, Y/n.”
“That’s okay. To answer your questions, his genetics don’t necessarily have a huge impact on any of my abilities, I was created with every available video of Batman fighting embedded into my mind, and the combat skills were engraved in my memory, I should be able to replicate his fighting style to a tee. I’m not invulnerable, but in theory, the stealth I was programmed with allows me to stay agile enough that I shouldn’t often get hurt. I don't have thermal vision, but I do have laser vision, enhanced strength, and flight, although I haven’t tested how fast I actually can fly. And like I said, my combat training is essentially the combat footage uploaded into my mind.”
Tim had nodded, eyes trained on yours in complete interest as you answered each question, occasionally jotting something down on the notes app of his phone.
Lois narrowed her eyes slightly at both Bruce and Clark, “I do hope you’re factoring in giving her the opportunity to build an actual social life. Maybe get her enrolled in school.”
“She has doctorate-level information on several different topics stored into her mind, as well as fluency in 8 languages. I think she’ll be fine, Lois,” Bruce replied.
She rolled her eyes, “Okay, so school’s not necessary, what about building a social life for herself? That’s important.”
“There’s Young Justice,” Conner said, “I figured she’d join.”
Tim nodded in agreement, “I can help her get situated.”
“Where will I stay?” you asked, you didn’t particularly enjoy how they were all discussing you as if you weren't there, but there honestly wasn’t much you could do.
“You can stay at the manor, or you can stay with the team, but it'd be best if you lived here in the Manor.” Bruce replied.
“Why isn’t Metropolis an option?” Clark muttered.
“Because it’s more practical to have her here in Gotham, living with Tim will make it easier to adjust to the team.”
“I want time with her, Bruce.”
“You’ll get it. We’ll have her assessed, then three times a week she’ll train and get a hold of her powers with you.”
Clark nodded, satisfied with that answer.
Lois spoke again, turning to you, “Y/n, how does that sound to you?”
You blinked. “It sounds fine. My super hearing allows me to hear every conversation proficiently.”
She chuckled softly, “It’s a figure of speech sweetheart, I meant if you’re okay with everything that was said, you’ve been a bit quiet.”
You felt your face grow hot, “Oh. Yeah, I’m okay with it.”
Clark gave you a fond smile.
Bruce looked at you and smiled softly, a barely noticeable one, but a smile nonetheless.
The bulk of the conversation was over. The people in the room falling into easy conversation with one another, you look around, not sure what to do. That is until Jason approaches you, a kind smile on his face.
“Hey Y/n, I’m Jason, I’ll be honest, you probably won't see me too often cause I can barely stand being around Bruce, but… if he’s ever a dick, call me and I’ll either punch him for you and take you somewhere he’s not.” he grinned, “Or both.”
You laughed softly, “I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you.”
He nodded, “I’ll be raiding the kitchen, but if anyone asks, I left.” He shoots you a grin before slipping away.
It’s not long after that when Jon approaches you, Damian by his side, he shoots you a toothy grin, “So, you’re like, my sister now, right?”
You’re not sure how to respond, but you feel a puddle of warmth pooling in your heart, it’s nice. You smile at him softly, “I suppose so.”
He grins, “And that would also make you Damian’s sister. right?”
“I suppose so.”
“See Damian, we’re blood brothers by extension.”
“Jon, that is the most imbecilic logic I’ve ever encountered. Just because Y/n is both my blood and yours doesn’t mean–”
“Blood brothers!” He had shouted cheerfully, before walking away and over to Lois to inform her of the good news.
Damian sighed, though you took notice of the soft smile that flashed across his face, you concluded that he cared for him.
A lot of people in this family– Bruce’s family specifically, tend to hide affection, despite the fact that it is apparent to you that they feel it. You decide not to focus on it, people are complicated.
You chat a bit with various people in the room, Lois telling you that you’re always welcome to visit whenever you’d like, Barbara talking to you about how her work as Oracle, Steph telling you all about the other vigilantes you’ll probably end up crossing paths with. Tim and Conner sat by you, telling you all about the team and the people you’ll meet once all your training is done.
Slowly, people start to leave, you saw Jason slip out the front door first, sending you a wink. Dick left not long after, needing to return to his responsibilities in Bludhaven, making sure to tell you you’re always welcome to visit him over there. Then Clark left with Lois, Jon, and Conner, leaving the residents of the manor plus, Cass, Steph and Barbara.
Damian and Tim had retreated to their rooms, while Alfred busied himself with household chores, Bruce stood up, approaching you before saying, “Did you still want to go shopping? You’ll need training clothes.”
You nodded, “Yes, please.”
Steph perked up, rushing towards the two of you, “Oh, we have to come.”
“Steph, you go shopping every week. With my card.”
Barbara chimed in, “It’s not about that Bruce, you have a terrible fashion sense. We can’t let you impose that onto Y/n.”
Cass nodded in agreement.
“We’re just buying training clothes.”
“She can’t wear training clothes in her daily life,” Steph rolled her eyes, “She needs a wardrobe.”
You smiled, “I would like a wardrobe.”
“See?”
Bruce sighed but nodded, “Let's go then.”
Steph cheered while Barbara and Cass high-fived behind her, it was an amusing site.
Tumblr media
When you arrived at the mall, Steph immediately linked arms with you, dragging you around to her favorite stores, paying no mind to your super strength potentially being able to accidentally break her arm. It caught you off guard, not only the physical display of affection, but the trust.
Again, you felt that soft puddle of warmth pool in your chest. You could get used to that.
You had gotten to know Barbara and Cass fairly well during the trip as well, Barbara was sweet, she and Steph made you laugh more than you thought you could. Cass and you got along well too, she picked out the clothes you liked the most, always nodding in approval when you would try anything on, a soft smile on her face. The three of them opened their group up to you so quickly, it had surprised you, you felt that with their company you were better able to navigate finding yourself.
The four of you hadn’t paid much mind to Bruce trailing behind you as you went from store to store, not that he minded. He held a fond smile as he observed the four of you giggling, talking, and having a good time.
He knew his focus on training was important, but he also knew Lois was right (not that he’d admit that to anyone), you needed a social life too. And he knew your heightened emotional intelligence would surely allow you to obtain that, you just needed to blossom, and allow yourself to break free of the restraints you put on yourself.
He’d lost count of how many times he had swiped his card that day, at some point he had decided to just start waiting by the front, once you guys were ready, he’d walk over, swipe his card, and you guys would move on to the next shop. He wouldn't say this to anyone, but he enjoyed doing things like this, taking care of the people he cares about.
The last store you had gone to was WayneTech, it was Bruce’s idea. You needed a phone in order to keep everyone’s contacts. So they brought you there where you got the latest model of their cell phone line, it was sleek and thin. You picked out a case and you got a screen protector. Bruce had told you that once you got to the Batcave he’d input league contacts, safety features, as well as league-level security settings.
By the end of the trip it was early in the evening, Bruce had his arms absolutely filled with shopping bags, and what he couldn’t carry was carried by you and Steph. The five of you stepped out into the parking lot, the sun setting, casting a deep orange hue on the parking lot. You took in the image in front of you, you didn’t know suns could set so beautifully.
The ride home was nice, the car was filled with the soft chatter of the four of you, Bruce didn’t feel the need to listen in. The soft music playing on the stereo as a background was a nice addition to the atmosphere.
When you’d arrived at the manor, the girls had bid you goodbye, but not before making sure they had your number to add you to their group chat. You were warned by Steph that Cass’s meme game could not be beat. You were slightly confused but nodded, a happy smile on your face. They each gave you a hug before getting in their cars and heading off.
The walk into the manor was silent, but not awkward, mainly the two of you taking armfuls of bags up to your room.
As he shut the door, Bruce turned to you, “It’s not too late, if you want, we could start out on some training.”
You nodded, going into your room to change, “I’ll be down there in a bit.”
He nodded, walking away to change as well.
You entered the Batcave shortly after, comfortable in your black sweatpants, and a black long sleeve athletic shirt. Now, having a better opportunity to take it all in, it was massive. You looked to your left to see Damian sparring with Tim in one of the further training areas. You walked over to Bruce, he gave you a small smile, leading you to the second training area by Tim and Damian, who by now had stopped sparring, in favor of observing your skill.
“You can replicate my fighting style to a tee, right?”
You nodded.
“Let’s see it.”
You charged first, making sure to suppress your strength, your movements swift and calculated, landing a fast right kick to his abdomen. He sidestepped, landing a swift punch to your side. You kept attempting attacks on eachother, each one dodging the other flawlessly.
Tim and Damian watched in awe as the two of you gracefully moved, as if you were dancing. This went on for several minutes, until you attempted a fast left kick to his side, which he caught, using as leverage to flip you over on your back.
Your limbs ached, you looked up at him, “How did you do that?”
He held a hand out to help you up, “I’m not as fast with my left kicks as I am with my right ones. My weaknesses are your weaknesses.”
You nodded. Made sense.
“You have good technique, and you replicate my fighting perfectly, but that’s all it is. A replication. You need to make it your own. Adapt it in accordance with your abilities, you can’t do that now because Clark hasn’t trained you, but in time you will.”
You nodded, your chest swelling with pride at his compliment, you knew after your training with Clark you would be able to better adjust your fighting style.
Damian walked over to you, “Y/n. I’d like to spar, you’ve proven to be a worthy opponent.”
You nodded, it would be good to spar with someone with a different fighting style. Tim sat down to the side, perfectly content with just observing for now, like earlier, he occasionally jotted down some notes on his phone. You decided you didn’t mind it. It was endearing.
This time, Damian charged first, landing a swift right kick to your ribs, you turned and landed a hard kick to his chest, sending him back, before he flipped and caught himself, running towards you again. His smaller frame provided him with an advantage as he jumped onto your shoulders, before he could land his blow, you flipped your body, sending him to the floor, landing on his back with a thud. You crouched over him, extending your hand.
“You okay?”
“Fine.” he took your hand, getting up to his feet, you gave him a soft smile, which he returned, giving you a nod of approval. He, like Bruce, didn’t often use his words, but you were able to discern their intentions just fine.
Bruce then led you to a machine he had in the cave, where it analyzed your genetics in comparison to Clark’s, he had determined you were missing the genetic composition that happened to be the main source of invulnerability, therefore the reason you were the way you were. You are unfortunately still weak when exposed to kryptonite.
You were tired by the end of the night. You felt you had bonded with Damian, he had asked you to spar with him another time, to which you agreed.
Tumblr media
The next day, Bruce had sent you over to Smallville, where Clark had decided on training you, ‘A good old fashioned open field’ were his exact words.
He made sure to send you wearing your original suit, not knowing how fast you would be flying, just in case, only you didn’t like it, so you opted to wear some sweats over the suit.
And there you were, floating about 300 feet in the air with him, as he explained the basics of flying.
“You want to create your own leverage, using your flight, you should be able to do this.” He bent one leg, tilting to the right as he effortlessly glided in that direction, he repeated the action only now going in the opposite direction.
You nodded, imitating his movements, gliding from side to side before stopping and looking at him. He smiled brightly at you, “You’re doing great, kid. There was never a point where you didn’t have powers, so this should be easy. Now, we’ll test your speed.”
You nodded, “How are we doing that?”
He pulled out a stopwatch, “I’m going to wait here while you fly to Gotham and back. You know the route?”
You nodded.
“Okay… and…. Go!”
You immediately shot forward, a slightly bumpy start but your body adapted immediately, you felt the wind whip through your hair, and a smile spread across your face as you made a U-turn around Gotham, making it back to Clark in seconds.
“2.6 seconds. That’s good.” He smiled at you.
You went on like that for the next few hours, him giving you encouraging words of advice, and you gained better control over your abilities, him providing you with tips he learned over the years. For that last hour, Jon and Conner joined the two of you, the four of you eventually just playing air tag until Martha and Lois called you in for dinner.
They insisted you stay for dinner, and you had no mind to refuse, spending time with them was nice. Jon insisted he sat next to you at dinner, excitedly talking your ear off about whatever he’d gotten to that day, and sharing his favorite stories about Damian with you. He acts like he doesn't like people, but he’s got a soft spot for a lot of us, were his exact words. You honestly completely agreed, you smiled at him as he continued talking.
That day you’d gotten to know Martha and Jonanthan Kent, who insisted you called them Ma and Pa. They instantly coddled you as if they’d known you since birth, though, in a way, that is technically the case.
They didn't let you leave empty handed, sending you off with tupper-ware filled with leftovers, cookies and pie. You thanked them for their hospitality and headed back to the manor.
Tumblr media
The next few months were mainly doing morning and evening training with Bruce, occasionally Dick would stop by to train with you, always telling you he was proud of your improvement, which never failed to make you glow just a little brighter with pride. He’d begun a tradition where he would treat you to a burger after training, or whatever it was you were craving. He said that it was his goal to get you to try every fast food joint in Gotham, deciding that it was just an essential part of living there. You quickly decided you hated fast food, but never said anything because that wasn’t at all what mattered to you, what mattered to you was the bond you were creating with your older brother.
Your relationship with Bruce wasn’t perfect. There were times you saw how focused he was on his mission, neglecting the feelings of those around him, he could be an asshole. And with you still navigating your emotions, you’d get angry and yell, and so would he. If you saw him brushing off Damian, or Tim, one look at the crestfallen expressions on their faces was enough to get you angry. You shouldn’t have been surprised, truthfully, you weren’t. You were too similar. You were just fortunate enough to be surrounded by people early on who could convince you to let them in.
Regardless of the imperfections between you and Bruce, you knew he cared. He always showed it with the small smile he’d give you as he held up two tickets to the movie you had wanted to see. Or in the way he’d lure everyone into the living room with snacks for a movie night. Or how he’d try his best to always express to you that you were doing well. That you were enough, and that you deserved to be there.
You’d grown closer with Tim, too, always willing to help him with his assignments (not that he often needed it, but on the rare occasions his sleep deprived self couldn’t wrap his head around a problem). You’d often go to him when you needed help figuring something out on your phone, to which he would offer a simple solution you hadn’t seen before.
Tim was kind, he showed he cared for you by fixing things, when you cracked your screen protector by accidentally tapping it too hard, he made you a new one that could withstand the force of a bullet. He learned to confide in you over time, telling you about Bernard, expressing his worries to you about whether or not he’s good enough. You’d always tell him he was more than good enough.
Damian had taken to calling you ‘sister’, often challenging and teasing you when he could, you’d developed a relationship where he’d go to you for company. You’d sit in the garden and take in the life around you, while he sat a few feet away and drew it.
Once, he drew you while you weren’t looking, when he finished, he handed it to you without a word and walked away. In the bottom right corner you read ‘Y/n Wayne-Kent’ in neat handwriting, just below that, ‘sister’. That was the first time he’d used that word for you. Your heart swelled.
You continued seeing Steph, Barbara, and Cass, regularly having lunch with them and talking with them on the phone. Barbara, or as you now called her, Babs, was always there to guide you when you needed it, she’d often send you small gifts from time to time, like jewelry that reminded her of you.
Cass and you would often find the most peaceful company in each other. She would listen to you talk about all the things you'd been learning, telling you about her own experience adjusting to a new life.
Steph and you bonded over poorly written hallmark movies, she always giggled madly when you would point out plot inconsistencies, wearing the most confused expression she had ever seen on a person, you didn’t understand why at first, you would just state facts, but you always enjoyed the time with her. She always says you guys should start a podcast, and you always agree. You hope she never asks you what a podcast is... because you genuinely didn't know.
True to his word, you didn’t see Jason often, but there were a few instances  where you felt particularly suffocated by Bruce’s training that you took him up on his offer to take you somewhere he wasn’t. Those moments were... nice. Every time, he would bring food, and take you to his apartment, where you talked about books and he introduced you to some of his favorite movies. You didn’t know why he and Bruce didn’t get along, but you chose not to pry.
Alfred had taken a liking to you instantly, he enjoyed giving you etiquette lessons, and would bake all kinds of scones and cookies for you to try. His humor was at times very dry and sarcastic, which never failed to make you laugh. He taught you how to bake once, finding you were exceptionally good at it, ‘Miss Y/n, I think we’ve found your natural talent’. You hadn’t expected to be good at it, but Alfred said you were phenomenal.
You’d also train with Clark 3 times a week, getting even closer with the Kents, integrating yourself in both families. It was interesting being part of two very different families. But you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Clark had shown you a lot about your powers, but it was never just training. It had become a necessity for the two of you to fly to some famous landmark and have lunch together, before flying back to Smallville for more training.
Clark was constantly trying his best for you, he still had his regrets from his initial relationship with Conner, and although he was forgiven and their relationship was rebuilt, he knew he lost time. And he absolutely refused to repeat that and hurt someone else who didn’t deserve it.
You always stayed for dinner, you found that you could never say no to Jon, the one time you tried was awful, you felt so bad that you went back the next day and took him shopping. With Bruce's card, duh.
Jon was stuck to you like glue whenever you were over. He always insisted on sitting by you and talking to you about whatever he’d been up to. He flew around with you a lot, you guys would play games that he taught you how to play. Your favorite moments were when he and Damian would allow you in to watch them play video games because ‘How do you not know how to play video games? That’s just wrong. We’ll teach you.’
Conner had spent more and more time with you as well, telling you about a lot of social cues, the importance of boundaries, etc. He was determined to help you adjust in every way he could, he shared his experiences with you when he first started working in teams. You learned a lot from him, he was very affectionate with you, but in that awkward-older-brother way. He’d give you a soft pat on the back and a smile, he knew you’d do just fine.
Lois became your role model, you truly admired her. She was strong, outspoken, confident. She helped you not be afraid of forming your own opinions and voicing them. One time she saw you yell at Bruce over something he’d done, and all she could do was smile proudly.
These people whose lives you just appeared in one day, very quickly became your family. Every day you were reminded of how lucky you were to have come to care for them as much as you do. Bonding with them was nice, and you very quickly understood the appeal of having family.
These are people who care for you unconditionally, simply because they want to. Because every moment that they spend with you, they choose to.
And just like that, you were ready to meet the team. You had learned to combine your combat skills with your powers, if you need to, you can fight in mid air. You’d learned to incorporate your abilities into your technique to enhance your own personal style. And it felt amazing.
You knew every possible way to deliver an effective, non-lethal blow.  Of course, you needed a suit. Bruce offered to enhance the one you had worn the day they rescued you, but you wanted a new one. To you, that suit represented what you were created to be, and that is not who you are. You wanted something true to yourself, and he understood and wholeheartedly supported you. Damian helped you make a sketch, and together you’d designed the perfect representation of you. And you became Eclipse. The alignment of two heroes, though unintentional, created a whole new hero. You.

There is probably a conspiracy theory within the JL that Batman has so many kids because he is creating them out of combining his DNA with someone else's.
Just like Conner...but less with evil intentions and more of crippling empty nest syndrome...
Everyone is kinda dismisses this but it always lingers in the back of their mind...could one of them be theirs...
There is a board up somewhere that would make Tim jealous with all of its red strings, theories, and 'proofs'.
Bruce has no idea about it...his children do though and use it to mess with everyone.
Dick would be enough of an asshole to look Clark in the eye after being rescued from falling off a building, smile with all his teeth, and go, " Don't worry, Clark. I'm not like the last one." Before running off.
And the others are assholes enough to follow his exemple.
So not only do the JL thinks Bruce made his children in a lab, they also think he made clones of them. Multiple.

Tim's Meeting With Kon (Non-canonical version)
This is in another world where Damian is more open with his emotions and is 75% less emotionally constipated
Tim hesitates, anxiously pulling his wings tighter around him as he followed Damian across the cave.
"What if make a fool of myself?" Tim frowned, resisting the urge to cling onto Damian's cape like a terrified hatchling.
The older bat raised a questioning brow, "When have you ever allowed the opinions of lesser beings to affect you?"
"Jon's a part of the "lesser beings", you know that, right?" Tim comments Damian squinted in embarrassment, “and so is Kathy.”
"Kent and Branden," Damian huffs, "are the exceptions."
Tim rolls his eyes, yelping as Damian flicks his forehead, "HEY! I'll tell Duke you hit me!"
"He'd say you deserved it," Damian says while looking ahead, but the slightest twitch of his lips betrayed the older teen's amusement, "but we both know what Duke would say."
Tim smiles, "Probably something sappy."
"Incredibly sappy," Damian twists his voice to perfectly mimic Duke's, "Don't worry, Tim! As long as you be yourself and do whatever Damian says, everyone will love you!"
The falcon shudders, his feathers bristling with disgust, "Eugh. I hate it when you do that. Its literally so uncanny."
"I love you, Tim!" Damian chirps, still using Dukes voice as they reach the cave’s exit, "I'm Duke and I'm all lovey dovey. Sunshine, Rainbows, I can see light! I go to college! I’m Bruce’s favorite because I LOVE med school! I LOVE being tired and exhausted! Coo coo coo, peace and love and-“
"What are you two doing?"
Tim abruptly stifles his laugh and whips around with a strangled yelp. Damian remains stoic, but Tim could see he was also startled. "Aren’t you supposed to be at college?"
Duke gave the pair an unimpressed look, a plate of Alfred's cookies within his hands, "You need to hurry up before either Jon or Clark calls Bruce, and we all know how he gets."
Tim and Damian exchange matching looks of displeasure, but they had no choice but to get going.
——(~~~)——
"I thought you were a no-show," Jon teased as Tim and Damian landed on the roof of the skyscraper.
Tim twitched as he felt two pairs of eyes pin onto him, and the Shadow allowed a mixture of his Shadow and Gala personas to drape over his features.
Damian leaned slightly toward Tim in a vague show of comfort, "We would've taken longer if not for Seraph's prodding."
Tim glances over the small group of people gathering around. He pursed his lips before turning to Damian, "Shouldn't there be more people here?"
"What, are we not enough for Batman's almighty Shadow?" a voice huffed, and Tim snapped his head up with an irritated expression. He was about to say something, but his words died in his throat.
"Nova," Jon admonished lightly, and Damian tapped Tim's back, noticing how the fledgling had considerably.
"We didn't want to overwhelm you," Superboy, Jonathan Kent, supplied.
"Either way, you will meet the rest of the imbeciles in due time," Damian huffed, "but Superboy insisted on this audiance with Supernova."
"Supernova," Tim tested the name, ignoring how his heart pounded in his chest. That was Kon-el, Conner Kent, clone made from Superman and Lex Luthor, rescued from Cadmus labs by Reaper and Superboy alongside Beacon and the other Titans. Tim hums in consideration, the name fits him. He looks away and mutters nder hs breath, “just as pretty, too.”
As Supernova flushes a deep scarlet, Tim couldn’t help but instantly regret his every decision that brought him up to this point, and the falcon wishes that a villain- or preferably a giant asteroid- would interupt the conversation and slam into his face. Alas, that didn’t happen, and so Tim was left to suffer as Super laughed at him.
The two, red-faced vigilantes found solace in the other as their older counterparts chatted and caught up.
Tim can’t wait to go home.

5+ headcannons on an a Raadsc au where before getting isekaied Izuku was exposed to the theory that Izuku midoriya (the character) was all mights secret love child (and maybe that was part of the reason Bakugou wasn't given all for one) and somehow fully believed it. I don't remember if he only consumed fandom knowledge or read a variation of MHA, but in this au maybe he probably only knew fandom stuff.
1 - Izuku says that he has clear proof from canon that All Might is Midoriya Izuku's secret lovechild but his narration makes it clear that he is reaching for straws because he wants to be All Might's secret lovechild and you know what? He has just been isekaied as a doomed side character. He deserves this.
2 - After being rescued from the Sludge Villain, a slightly oxygen-deprived-Izuku informs All Might that he is his secret lovechild and that he needs his help to survive. All Might nods, understanding that this poor boy hit his head really hard, but sticks around long enough to actually see that the boy is in danger. It's like the entire world is out to get him.
3 - The Symbol of Peace himself has trouble keeping this one boy alive. He is so desperate that he doesn't even blink when he carries Young Midoriya home and sees his mom escorting him to a vault. He doesn't have children but if they are in so much danger, he understands the appeal of vaults!
4 - AFO comes back not even sooner in this AU because Inko informed him that he has been away from home so long that their son adopted All Might as his new father.
5 - Izuku is still convinced that All Might is his dad and thinks he is facing a Clark Kent and Superboy situation (he isn't aware that Connor is a clone because once again, he is fuzzy on the canon details of something) so he doesn't call him dad or anything but he is still convinced that he is his dad. Tells as much to Shouto. Meanwhile, All Might is googling if one can adopt a child who still has both parents.

Ok so I came here for Star Wars and I’m happily enjoying the DC stuff despite knowing nothing about it. I’m asking without looking it up in case this ends up being amusingly wrong - Connor Kent is… Superman’s son/clone? And Tim Drake Im pretty confident is Robin #3? And they seem to be widely shipped together? Or is it more of a rare pair crack ship? If it’s popular, what made it so popular? Do they have a lot of issues where they tag team and flirt? How would you describe their dynamic?
You've got a solid handle on it so far! You're right that Conner Kent (his Kryptonian name being Kon-El) is a clone made up of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor's DNA, grown in a lab that he was eventually rescued from, which caused a lot of awkward, weird feelings for Clark at the time and so he doesn't really consider him a son, but they don't necessarily have a word for what they are, other than that they're family. Originally, Kon's powers weren't really the same as Superman's, he had tactile telekinesis, but over the course of a lot of years, he started developing the more traditional powerset, flight, superstrength, heat vision, etc. He's also gone through a lot of stuff over the years, as all superheroes do, but Kon's had it kind of rough, including dying and eventually being brought back. Tim is indeed Robin #3, though, for awhile he was fired as Robin and became Red Robin instead (while Damian was Robin, but IIRC Damian's not currently Robin?), but I believe he's currently picked up the mantle again and is just Robin. Primarily, Tim and Kon's dynamic happened in pre-Nu52 comics (the big DC reboot), but MAN were they A Thing. Not officially, Tim hadn't come out as bi yet back then (and no official content for Kon as anything other than straight), but their dynamic was super shippy in their Young Justice and Teen Titans comics and almost everyone I know was like, "Yeah, technically they were dating other people, but we all know they're each other's real love interest.", being semi-tongue-in-cheek, but also semi-serious. To the point, when Kon died (you can call him Kon or Conner, they're kind of interchangeable), even when the others had moved on, Tim was straight up trying to re-clone him, despite that it wouldn't be his Kon, he just couldn't not have Kon in the world. So, it's basically your typical Super/Bat style ship, which has a lot of They're The Best Of Friends moments in canon and aren't entirely Normal about each other, but it gets taken up a notch because most of their canon ships aren't nearly as popular or as enduring as their relationship with each other. If I'm missing anything or mislead anon, feel free to jump in, it's been awhile since I read anything with them, though, now I'm eyeing those Teen Titans and YJ trades my library has....

Some other things about my Kon Adopts A Clone Baby And Helps Establish Clone Rights AU:
- Kon spends a lot of sleepless nights wondering about baby Jim's future, and whether he'll be able to have a safe and happy and normal life. His fear is that his child is too much like him, that it's inevitable that no matter what Kon does to give him that future, it will be taken from him.
- He is constantly aware of how little protections Jim will have, given that technically he isn't legally a person, and he worries about people exploiting Jim the same way Kon was exploited, the same way Guardian and Dubbilex and Match and so many others were exploited.
- Early on, when Jim is still little and before the issue of clone rights has become part of the public consciousness, Tim starts a draft for a proposal for new laws to protect the rights of clones. He works with people like Babs and Kate Spencer and Jefferson Pierce and he keeps it a secret from Kon until it's past the beginning stages. Kon cries when Tim tells him.
- Kon also worries about any surprises that might come about from what the people who created Jim did to his genetics, and he gets scared when his kid gets sick. He has nightmares about the clone plague coming back and killing Jim, and about Jim somehow getting infected with the virus the Agenda used on Kon.
- Kon has many late-night talks with Martha in her kitchen while Jim sleeps in the bedroom upstairs. He wishes he could have similar talks with Jim Harper, but ever since he ran away from Cadmus with his daughter, Kon doesn't know how to contact him.
- Jim grows up with such a large family. There's always someone available to babysit, and they spoil him endlessly. (Cassie tells Kon she'll be happy to help him with babysitting anytime he needs, and her friends immediately start dunking on her bc of the time her and Cissie almost got arrested for trying to stab the kids they were babysitting.)
- there are a lot of clones who get rescued from bad situations who look like kids when they're adults mentally for various reasons, or people who look like adults but are actually very young, and these are the ones Kon is the most concerned about, especially if they've decided to live on their own or they don't trust most other people. Kon checks up on them regularly and knows most of them by name.
- in this future, Clark gradually steps back from publicly being Superman and Jon takes his place while Kon becomes Supernova. But there's a moment when Jon and Kon have to step in to deal with a crowd situation, and once it's over a kid in the crowd shouts and waves at Superman. But after a moment they figure out that she's calling for Kon, not Jon. She's one of the kids Kon rescued from a dangerous situation because of cloners and helped her find a home afterwards, and for her, and a lot of others Kon personally helped, Supernova is their Superman.

When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die, Creelarke, Scott Clarke/The Lost Boy of Montauk, Oceans and Zero
So, the song “When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die” is used in ST twice- once during Will’s rescue, and another time during Eddie Munson’s death.
And I talked in this post about the fact that Scott Clarke in ST shares a name with the real-life Scott Clarke of Montauk, who was one of the lost/missing boys of Montauk, and who ended up lost at sea.
And so, take a look at the lyrics for When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die:
Tumblr media
Is it just me, or is it interesting that this song is not only used in the context of two boys/characters who went missing (Will and Eddie) and who had missing posters paralleling eachother, but also references the ocean so much vs the IRL Scott Clarke being lost at sea?
And it’s also interesting to me that we have the “when it’s cold i’d like to die,” line/title/specifically the “cold,” part of it vs a.) scott’s voiceover about fear playing during Will’s “he likes it cold” scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And b.) when Scott asks El where she’s from, the party responds with “sweden,” and talks about how cold it is there.
Tumblr media
And hell, I’ve been working on another post about this for awhile, but sometimes I wonder if Scott was actually 000/patient zero for a cloning program & if that’s why he’s got so many weird lookalikes in the lab, and would also explain why he’s named after a lost boy of Montauk.
And that may also explain the “subzero” line during that “El is from Sweden” scene with Scott:
Tumblr media
Anyway! Lots to think about.

Need your full opinion on the recent smot issue
overall, i was... pretty disappointed in it, honestly. spoilers below!
i have always found kenny porter's writing to be kinda heavyhanded, and smot has been no exception, but i was pretty willing to go with the flow because heavyhanded or not at least it seemed to be a fun story. with the hints and buildup in #3 i was worried we were essentially setting up for a reprise of knockout arc from sb94, with kon aiding and abetting someone shitty while being manipulated into thinking they were misunderstood and wanted to do better, and i had misgivings about that idea, but...
...but honestly like. this isn't actually better. i feel like porter is really, REALLY hammering in this idea that kon hasn't actually matured, that he's still the same kid from sb94 just trying to relive his glory days, which is just. like. did adventure comics/superboy (2011) mean nothing to you kenny? (i know they did. i know.) it's also just a disappointing angle to take on his MANY issues with being in a new universe that literally forgot him. of all the things he could be struggling with, i don't think naivety is a particularly interesting OR in character one to focus so hard on.
it's also just REALLY been getting me that we're supposed to believe that everyone on earth didn't notice he vanished for 2 weeks, and yet ALSO that they do genuinely care for him. smot is set before house of metallo arc in action comics, which means we know at the end of it kon still comes back to be generic background superman #3 or whatever; i find that pretty jarring especially with the idea that none of the superfam even noticed he left the planet for two whole weeks. of course, given porter's heavyhanded writing style i know that'll simply be glossed over and ignored, because... subtlety? implication? what are those? it's the same with the entire idea of EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM ON EARTH being solved--that makes no sense and will be summarily never mentioned again, of course. and ditto re: tim, bart, and cassie going on a mission in paris without so much as a text to kon about it. it's all pretty contrived as setup, and the execution continues to feel contrived and unsatisfying to me. smot4 in particular felt like they were Really rubbing in the complete nuking of the pre-flashpoint kon&clark relationship :(
i'm ALSO really just not happy with the ridiculously centrist take of "what if the guys fighting back against the genocidal imperialists were JUST AS BAD AS THEM? OR WORSE?" but i mean. the bar is on the fucking floor and dc just loves to bring industrial excavators.
on the plus side, at least there are some cute kon panels in it :) i'll take those where i can even if i'm going :/ at everything else going on. i'm pretty sure the ending will involve the superfam coming to the rescue in issue 6 and kon going WOW... i DO have a place on earth after all... despite none of the actual issues he had at the beginning of the run being remotely resolved. also i won't be surprised if they don't actually condemn the imperialists particularly much. travv and the cosmoteers have been set up as the primary antagonists so... eh.
overall i'd say smot 4 was where the plot stopped really being fun to me. i'd had my hangups and nitpicks with 1-3, but 4 just dropped the ball a LOT. maybe 5 and 6 will be better, but i'm not too optimistic that it won't just entirely fall flat (again, though, i just know i don't actually like the entire setup for kon in rebirth, so i'm biased). still gonna buy em though ofc. gotta get my good good kon covers even if the story isnt very consistent or satisfying!
ETA I FORGOT TO MENTION. CAN THEY STOP CLONING HIM?????? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD how many plots from sb94 are they gonna try to squeeze into the end of this run at the same time (and inevitably do worse than they were originally written). how many

Grief baby Timkon fic but the reverse - Tim dies getting Bruce back (as far as anyone knows) and Kon in his grief is 'found'/taken in by lex (now this is either Lex being straight up an asshole or more complex as in he cares for Kon but otherwise well) - anyway Ra's Al Ghul takes Tims spleen to the guy that has successfully cloned before and Lex creates a Tim clone but adds some of Kons DNA because of reasons - Once Kon finds out he destroys everything and runs with the baby cue to grief, hurt, guilt in some ways first half is just straight up angst and hurt - then he settles down around New Jersey because Lex lets him(and Ra's while initially hunting Kon suddenly stops) - Jon and Damian find Kon where he ends up and through that he gets to the batfam - including everyone having a lot of very complex feelings about this baby which is really their nephew and he has Tim's eyes, he has their lost brothers eyes. And then Bruce and Clark as grandparents which is both hilarious and painful. Kon is really just a kid with a kid and gets a family through Tims family. They love him and the kid but he feels guilty because this is now really his family is it? Clark has a lot of complex and painful feelings - he rejected the clone while Kon does not and there's guilt there but also he disapproves of thw TimKon baby in a fundamental way the same way he disapproves of Kon.
And then one day Kon wakes to Tims heartbeat. Ra's got his hands on Tim somehow, cue rescue mission and reunion and idiots in love and pining and then ultimately a happy ending. I will never ever get around to writing this but just reverse grief baby🥺

Quite a while ago, @brown-little-robin was giving me some background on YJ characters I hadn't at that point read much about, and my response to all the exploitation Kon goes through was to ask why Clark or someone connected with him never intervenes and takes this child in. Turns out that that is a very complicated question because theirs is a very complicated relationship.
What even are they to each other? Father and son? Brothers? Technically no relation at all? From the start, neither of them are quite sure, and it takes a long time for those issues to get sorted out. Unfortunately, a lot of hurt happens along the way too, but still there is discernible growth in the relationship by the end of Kon's solo series. And I'm going to look at it in depth (I mean it, this gets long), concentrating specifically on everything from Kon's first appearance in 1993 through the end of his solo in 2002. The series that began in 2003 is dead to me and I will not acknowledge it.
Disclaimer: I am not here to bash anyone. Although Clark makes some major mistakes in how he handles his relationship with Kon, I am not arguing that he is a horrible person. He is genuinely kind and altruistic and dedicated to protecting and caring for others...and yet this is a case where for a long time he fails to be there for someone who needs him. He's not perfect, he's a complex character, and that makes him interesting.
It's important to understand first on what foot the relationship begins. Kon and Clark first meet when Clark returns from having been "dead," and their interactions are pretty business-like, because they're fighting together. Their relationship isn't addressed until Adventures of Superman #506, after all the back-from-the-dead hullabaloo dies down.
Let's look at this from Clark's perspective. He's been "dead" and comes back to find out that he may or may not have been cloned without his consent, and that clone has not only been using his name but has trademarked it, and now Clark can't legally call himself Superman anymore. These things all happened out of his control, and now he has to navigate the consequences. It's a lot to deal with all at once. So he starts by taking the opportunity to come to the kid's rescue so he can talk to him about the trademark.
Superboy (he's not Kon yet), still smarting from being deserted by the woman he considers his "best friend," is being attacked by vicious monsters. He's sure that Cadmus has sent them to kill him now that their clone no longer has a purpose. So he's already not in a pleasant frame of mind, and then the man whose reappearance could cost him his life shows up out of nowhere and rescues him. He's downright hostile.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His response is understandable given the circumstances, but one of his major flaws is on display here. He struggles with pride and image, which are his way of compensating for feelings of inadequacy. Superman's presence not only undermines the role Superboy has taken on, but it also reminds him that he is in an inferior position by comparison. He couldn't take on the monsters by himself; he had to be rescued. It's humiliating. So he rejects Superman and his attempts to bond or show concern--it's the only way he can save face.
Clark, meanwhile, isn't sure that this boy is his clone, but he believes Superboy's claim (later publicized on television!) that Cadmus is trying to kill him, and he reappears to intervene when Cadmus sends Guardian (their head of security) to fetch the boy. He urges Superboy to give Guardian the benefit of the doubt and go with him. Superboy sees this as a betrayal and lashes out.
Tumblr media
He's on the verge of getting violent. A stern-looking Superman grabs his wrist and stares down this furious child and promises that he will accompany him to Cadmus to get answers and see that no one harms him or takes him prisoner.
They learn that Superboy isn't technically Superman's clone, and he's devastated because that's been his entire identity his whole short life. But still, Superman won't let Cadmus's director, Paul Westfield, take the boy prisoner, because "If your whistleblower disappeared now, it'd only make Cadmus look worse." Westfield won't let his clone "just roam free," so the telepath Dubbilex is assigned to "chaperone" him, mostly because Westfield doesn't want the local mindreader to find out that he was the one who sent out the assassin monsters.
...and Superman just lets them make these arrangements. He doesn't try to get Superboy out of Cadmus's clearly dangerous control. But Superboy is grateful to have had someone defend him: "You really stuck out your neck for me..."
In return, he wants his manager, Rex Leech, to give Superman back the trademark to his name. Superman concedes that the kid can use the S symbol and the name Superboy as long as "half the profits go to charity." Superboy is initially angry at having to use a name he considers a come-down, but he's able to reframe it to himself as a sign that he's next in line for the mantle and accepts it. Superman sends him off to a future of touring with the Leeches, ostensibly to let the boy make a name for himself, they shake hands--and that's that.
Tumblr media
Clark's first mistake is approaching Superboy like an adult peer who can make informed decisions about his future rather than a minor in need of protection. Superboy is currently under the "guardianship" of a shady cloning institution whose director wants to kill him and a manager who sees him as a "meal ticket." He's a clone with implanted memories who has been alive for three weeks, and he's not equipped to handle the world without the guidance of someone he can trust. For all practical purposes, he is a child. But he's had a hostile attitude almost every time Clark attempts to help him, and Clark seems to have concluded that what this kid wants is independence, and that's what he gives him. It's not a malicious choice, but it is a short-sighted one.
He and Superboy work together here and there shortly after this in what seems more like a business relationship. They're partners in fighting evil, but nothing gets too personal. The next significant encounter Superboy will have with Clark comes in Superboy #8, in which he ends up in Smallville at the same time as a young Clark (as the original Superboy) from another continuity. Their initial meeting is hostile, with Clark beating up Superboy for stealing his identity, but once everything is explained, he's kind enough to sympathize: "That's the toughest part, isn't it? Always having to prove you're worthy of being Superman--every minute of every day...the rest is easy."
Superboy also meets the Kents (from his own timeline), and they take to him immediately!
Tumblr media
He has a standing invitation to visit them, and they tell him he reminds them of their son.
Of course the young Clark here is an alternate version, but his motivations and reactions are not likely to be far removed from those of his counterpart in Superboy's world. So it's interesting that his immediate response to a boy who looks a lot like him and uses his codename is to lash out at him and tell him to "Get a haircut! Get a job! This one's taken!" Is it possible that on some instinctive level Clark feels threatened by his intended replacement? Can we interpret this young Clark as an indicator of the emotions that his adult counterpart can't or won't display or acknowledge? The presence of another Superboy awakens insecurities in him. And then there's the fact that his parents semi-adopt this new boy within seconds of meeting him! (We'll come back to that.)
Superboy Annual #2 opens with a woman at a charity event thanking Superboy for making her son's day and touching on a sensitive issue.
Tumblr media
Despite his insistence on being independent, he has come to feel the loss of being literally parentless, especially now that he's been exposed to good parents such as the Kents with their mysterious son. He will shortly afterward learn that his human DNA donor was Paul Westfield, the now dead Cadmus director who wanted to kill him (yes, this was retconned in the later series, but I'm not addressing that). So he's understandably down-hearted. Superman, having been informed of the bad news, arrives for a talk with him. He compares Superboy's news to his learning that he was not human but alien. Superboy asks him how he deals with it.
"Well, a strong family helps..." says Superman to the boy who has no family. He assures Superboy that he is nothing like Westfield, that he has done lots of good things in his one year of life so far, and the disappointing news shouldn't change anything about who he is as an individual.
Tumblr media
And he flies off without sticking around for Superboy's first birthday party.
In Superboy #41, after a medical procedure that saves Superboy's life also stops his aging at sixteen, Superman compares Superboy's life's taking an unexpected turn to his own recent change of powers (I'm not sure what this was about, but he has literally turned blue with some kind of lightning? emanating from him? and it doesn't seem to have lasted long). He's making the best of the situation; so should Superboy. Wearing the shield is about doing your best, regardless of names or circumstances.
Tumblr media
So Superboy puts a brave face on it despite being still upset because "the never-ending battle goes on!"
See a pattern? Clark is willing to get involved in Superboy's life to save the day and offer kindly pep talks, but when it comes to ongoing, day-to-day concerns and anything not connected to Superboy's hero identity, he's never around. They never do anything together outside of hero work. They are not involved in each other's personal lives. Superboy knows Clark Kent, but only as Lois's husband (Clark and Lois even honeymooned in Hawaii and hung out briefly with Superboy and his girlfriend Tana Moon, whom they regard as a fellow romantic couple...no apparent concern about Tana's being an adult).
And that pep talk doesn't solve the problem. Superboy repeatedly has stress-induced nightmares about his inability to age, including ones in which Superman berates him for never growing up and letting him retire. He never addresses his feelings on this with Superman again. And when Superboy goes missing for months after a PR disaster, no one even thinks of contacting Superman to find him.
In fact, Superman doesn't show up again until #59. He's "been...busy lately" but wants to talk to Superboy in private--in the Fortress of Solitude. He shows Superboy around there, discusses his Kryptonian heritage, and confides that his name is Kal-El.
Superboy is surprised: "You...you got another name? Not just Superman?" After all, his superhero identity is the only one he has, and he's never seen any evidence of Superman's having any other identity, so why shouldn't they be the same?
Kal-El has admitted him into these secrets because he has a mission for Superboy: to experience Krypton through VR and witness how unethical cloning practices caused problems for that world (because Superman needs him to keep an eye out for "questionable genetic practices" now that he's living at Cadmus). In the simulation, Superboy takes on the identity of a Kon-El. Kal-El explains that this was a real person, a descendant of a family that was adopted into the House of El.
Superboy compares this to his (and others') being allowed to wear the shield, and Kal-El replies:
Tumblr media
The newly named Kon-El stares at him in stunned silence, but shortly after, as he's flying over Metropolis to shouts of "It's a bird...a plane...it's..." this is his reaction:
Tumblr media
If I recall correctly, this is the first time we've seen him cry. Note that Kon does not, cannot name himself. He has to look to Superman to bestow identity upon him. This is a major step in the relationship. Kon has been allowed to get closer to Superman's personal life than he's ever been before. He has been brought into a heritage that technically isn't his by blood, and he's been explicitly designated as family, even though he technically isn't really Superman's clone. He's no longer just his hero identity, which defined him as a role, a legacy; he has a private, personal name now. No wonder he is so deeply moved.
But what prompted Clark to do this all of a sudden? And what has taken him so long to do it? It's unclear. Perhaps he's finally starting to warm up more to the existence of his would-be replacement. Perhaps he heard of Kon's going missing and reevaluated some things. Or something else?
Whatever the case, there's a new level of connection between these two because of the shared heritage, the knowledge of each other's secret names. In #60, Superman sends Kon off on a dangerous mission with concern:
Tumblr media
It's a rare moment of personal connection for them, bonding over the private names that tie them together as family. Kon plays it off as nonchalant, but his expression indicates that he's appreciating this.
But the problem of course hasn't been resolved so easily.
On this mission, Kon ends up in the home world of the alternate young Clark whom he met previously. This time, Clark tells Kon that his dog is "going to enjoy having you around [...]"
Tumblr media
Unlike the Superman Kon knows, this boy eagerly brings Kon into his personal life, wants to spend time with him, introduces him to his parents, who instantly like him. And as a result of this familiarity, Kon learns that his friend's real name is Clark Kent. This shakes him up, along with the realization that he can't return to his home world. But the entire Kent family is ready to take him in "for as long as it takes" and treat him like their own. As Martha points out, "He looks so much like you, Clark--why, we could say he's your cousin!"
Kon, though, can't get past the implications that his Superman hid such an important part of his life from him.
Tumblr media
(Superboy 1994 #61)
Kon has believed that Superman--Kal-El--was finally letting him in, especially with sharing his heritage and family name. Finally accepted. Finally...perhaps?...loved? And to learn that Superman has kept back his most personal self from him reawakens Kon's insecurities. Not really capable enough. Not really good enough. Just Westfield's clone, not really any relation to the man he looks up to most, the man who has defined his existence. It hurts.
And then young Clark says something very revealing.
Tumblr media
Clark, like Kon, has pride and image problems, although they manifest differently. He wants to be seen as a strictly heroic figure on a pedestal, above any hint of humanization--at least with Kon. To let Kon in on his personal life would shatter that image. It would reveal him as just a man, and a man is ultimately vulnerable, mortal, replaceable. And Kon is there to be that replacement. It's threatening, even if Clark hasn't fully acknowledged that.
Just look at Kon's expression. He is not impressed by this explanation. He has always looked up to Superman; that's a given. But what he wants is that personal, familial connection. Not a remote pseudo-father figure, but something more like young Clark, who designates them as like brothers--equals--and is eager to share everything with him. They're separated soon after, and he never sees alternate young Clark again, but their encounter shows us what Kon and his version of Clark could have had if things had been different.
The question of trust lingers after Kon returns home, and in #70, he determines to confront Clark about why he concealed his secret identity from Kon. He ends up joining Superman in fighting a monster (while Lois is on hand to report), and when they finally get a chance to talk, Kon stalls with a question about whether he ended up back in his own reality after all. Superman assures him that he has and "I know I'm glad you're here."
Tumblr media
Note that Kon invokes the Kryptonian name, as a symbol of their bond. And Kal-El replies, "With my life."
Tumblr media
Superman is inadvertently echoing the words of his alternate younger self, declaring him and Kon to be brothers. These are words that Kon needs to hear, and I have no doubt that Clark is uttering them in complete sincerity. But they ring a little hollow in light of how their relationship has actually been. He "feel[s] closest" to Kon yet has kept his distance and his own secrets. He thinks of him as a brother but maintains the remote father figure role in practice.
Perhaps there's been closeness that Kon hasn't been aware of? Does Clark ever, say, use his super-hearing to check in on him from a distance sometimes? Hard to say.
But the phrasing of "my...younger brother. The one who gets to have all the fun" is interesting. Is there a hint of (unconscious) jealousy there?
Kon isn't able to ask Clark what he really wants. Instead, he has a roundabout conversation with Lois, who suggests that the concealment of the secret identity wasn't a lie but a need for personal privacy, "having a small corner of his life where he can take a breather from the never-ending battle." Kon accepts this explanation and that's that.
The implication, though? He's inextricably tied to "the never-ending battle," and Clark needs his secret identity to get away from him (among other things).
Superman #155 provides Clark's perspective on the issue. After a frustrating encounter with an enemy and some difficulties in his relationship with Lois, Clark returns to Smallville to visit his parents...only to find Kon seated at the dining room table and regaling the Kents with a grandiose account of a recent adventure, as casually as if he belongs there. Clark has no idea that Kon has met his parents, and he's not happy to have the two sides of his life collide like that...
Tumblr media
...or to find that his parents are so friendly with this child.
Kon confesses that he didn't know Clark would be there and that he would prefer no one knew about his visits to the Kents either. And he drops some heavy hints that he knows who Clark is. Clark leaves in high dudgeon, and Martha joins him to give him a motherly talking-to.
Tumblr media
Clark's insistence that Kon is not him brings this back to his insecurities about replacement--this time, perhaps, replacement in his parents' affections? He's an only child who has just acquired a younger brother and isn't sure how to deal with it. Also note that Clark has on an old high school jacket, as if he were reverting to a younger self closer to Kon's age.
Martha tells him that he's selling "that nice young man" short by not talking to him about what's wrong. Clark dutifully goes to talk to Kon, but he's still too overwhelmed by his feelings to address anything constructively.
Tumblr media
Kon is making bid after bid for connection, but all Clark can see right now is his replacement, wearing his clothes, staying in his room, sitting on his bed. In his fear he becomes uncharacteristically surly.
The next morning, as Clark and Jonathan milk the cows, Clark admits that he doesn't want to tell Kon about his secret identity because it chips away at the wall between his identities. Being Clark Kent is something that's supposed to be all his.
Tumblr media
Jonathan points out what should have been recognized a long time ago: Kon has no one. He needs a family. He needs a chance to be human, not just a superhero. And this gets through to Clark.
When Kon shows up in the barn, Clark offers to teach him to milk a cow...
Tumblr media
...and tries to explain indirectly why he's been so distant. This is their first time doing something together that isn't saving the world! Just an ordinary farm chore, like regular people do.
They part on good terms, with Clark accepting Kon's getting to know this side of him.
Tumblr media
Although he still doesn't directly confirm his secret identity to Kon when he next encounters him as Superman.
In fact, for Clark to be able to address his feelings openly with Kon, it takes the two of them reversing ages during the Sins of Youth arc of Young Justice 1998. Kon as an adult has new powers that he doesn't know how to control, and he turns to teenage Clark for help.
Tumblr media
(Sins of Youth: Superman Jr./Superboy Sr. #1)
"That didn't come out right," he adds, but it's clear that he's overwhelmed not only by being somewhat depowered but also by his fear of replacement coming true. There's resentment in his telling Kon that he's "got what you always wanted--to be Superman!" This kid whom he never asked for has finally succeeded in taking away his identity and leaving him in a lesser role that he never chose. As an adult, Clark would have hidden these feelings, but as a teenager again, he expresses the frustration and vulnerability freely. And Kon listens and sympathizes and points out that it's a "good thing you had patient parents!" (There's some resentment there too. You had good parents. I have no one.)
Clark pretends to be taken aback that Kon knows his parents; Kon tries to say he meant his Kryptonian parents. It's not very convincing. And that's when Clark decides to admit "something I should've told you long ago"--that he's really Clark Kent!
"I know," says Kon.
Tumblr media
But he still can't bring himself to admit the reasons for his reticence and changes the subject: "...I'm worried about Lois. Really. When she sees that news report...well, you know how girls are! I'm supposed to be invulnerable, you know? Not to mention full grown! My wife sees me like this--she'll freak! I mean, maybe that younger man-older woman thing worked for you and your girlfriend, Tana Moon, but--"
...setting aside the problematic implications of Clark's apparently being okay with teenage Kon dating an adult but freaking out at the thought of his being a teenager married to an adult--it's clear that he's still struggling with the need to appear invulnerable. It would be humiliating for his wife to see him brought down to this condition, just as it's humiliating that he and Kon have had to switch roles.
And he still tries to maintain the mentor persona. Kon's putting on a brave face after losing Tana mere hours ago, and Clark recognizes how upset he must be and tries to encourage him to acknowledge those feelings: "You can't just ignore what happened. You have to face it...deal with it..."
He will take his own advice after Kon saves his life.
Tumblr media
This is progress! Clark acknowledges that it's hard for Kon to be under so much pressure to live up to him constantly; Kon understands that Clark too lives under tremendous pressure. And Clark confesses that he kept his distance because he felt like Kon was his replacement, and Kon reassures him that he has no wish to supplant him. Instead of above-it-all mentor and adoring apprentice, they are communicating as near-equals, and Clark is being vulnerable with him for the first time. But this is only possible because he's in a young body. I doubt they could have had this conversation at their proper ages.
They continue to work with each other on and off. Clark still struggles with an inability to accept help and open up about vulnerabilities, but he's more willing to interact on a personal level (in #83, he accompanies one of his pep talks with a discussion of Metallica albums and his civilian hobbies). Kon admires him more than ever and is even willing to risk his life for him. But their next significant interaction will come after a war that almost killed one of Kon's best friends and left Jonathan Kent missing. In #92, Clark and Kon both return to the farm to deal with their feelings as well as they can...which isn't very well at all.
Tumblr media
Kon attempts a pep talk of the type Clark normally gives him, but it doesn't work. Instead, he admits his grief, and Clark responds in kind. He doesn't have all the answers. He can't fix this. All they can do is sit together, equalized in their sorrow, all too vulnerable. And regrettably it has taken tragedy to bring them to a place where they can interact on this level.
But it's still not enough. Cadmus is destroyed, and Kon is left on his own, even homeless for a while. His efforts to find a new home bring him in contact with potential landlords who want to exploit him (in many ways, including sexually--and this is played for laughs. Apartment hunting, amirite?) and finally ends up as a poorly paid apartment superintendent in the slums. And in all this, Clark has no idea that this is going on. He has to hear about Kon's living conditions from Jimmy Olsen and, in #100 (the end of Kon's solo series), finally steps in when Kon is unable to prevent the destruction of his apartment building and the death of a tenant.
Clark delivers one of his typical pep talks...
Tumblr media
...and then he does something he should have done a long time ago:
Tumblr media
He has finally woken up to what Kon really needs: a loving family and a stable home. And what's more, he's letting Kon into his own family. He's done that before with granting the Kryptonian name, but now he's making Kon a Kent, a civilian, a human, a brother for real this time. Not just the little brother who has all the fun, but the little brother who needs love and support. And Kon, absolutely shattered after everything he's been through, all the people he's lost, all the times he's been used and abused, is in a place where he can accept this arrangement without his ego getting in the way.
The problem with these two began with Kon's pride but boils down to Clark's wanting to be Superman and only Superman with Kon. But that's not the person Kon needs in his life. He already has that persona, that hero's understanding of the world, the weight of that legacy. That's all he has. He needs Clark Kent. The ordinary man. The orphan from another world who found the caring family he needed. The persona most tied to humanity. Kon doesn't just need to learn how to be a hero; he needs to learn how to be a person, how to exist in the real world, how to know that he is loved for who he is, not how he performs or what he accomplishes.
But for a long time he's not in a position to know what he really needs, and Clark makes the mistake of not realizing it either, not until it's...not too late, but long after Kon has been through things he should never had to go through. It's ultimately a happy ending, with growth for the better in their relationship (they are brothers, and they love each other), but the road there is much more tragic than it had to be.

-Sees Superboy in The Reign of Supermen-
Me: Okay, I know he’s supposed to be Kon, but this is a cool design and he’s been “raised” by Lex. Could we have another backup clone after Kon was rescued to be this lil’ dude. I think Clark technically having 3 sons would be hilarious and from what I saw him and Lois had a decent balance in the movie when he wasn’t being a creep on her.

Thinking of a justice lords adjacent au where ynow, the justice league, but mostly Superman and Wonder Woman are “benevolent overlords” type thing.
In my head it all kind of happens after Jason’s death and Bruce kind of retreats into himself and stops holding the others in check, thus allowing them to take power.
By the time Tim’s managed to become robin Gotham is one of the few places left relatively free due to them all being unsure of Batman— in this au, they don’t know his true identity, and while they don’t have proof of him being a meta, they all reason that, well, he *must* be, because he’s *batman*
Batman becomes incredibly isolationist, and thus so does the rest of Gotham. The justice league, not a big fan of him subverting their control but also a little wary, eventually give him a magnum opus, a sugarcoated one—
Batman must allow robin to be part of a junior team. It’s for his own good, they reason, to be around heroes his own age. After all, the previous robins benefited greatly from it.
Of course, they don’t acknowledge that one of them died.
In realty, it’s obviously a threat held over the bat’s head— he can have Gotham, but the moment he tries to go against the justice league, they can hurt his sidekick.
So Tim, who is already resigned himself at this point to doing whatever it takes to protect Gotham and Bruce from tyranny, reluctantly becomes part of young justice, a team that is secretly mostly designed to have less-suspicious super teens spy on robin, and by association, Batman, and try to figure out their identities and any secret advantages they may have.
Robin shows up weary, not giving a name, never taking off his domino, in a suit lined with lead fiber. He’s impersonal, and clearly uncomfortable, and stunningly competent despite being a weak, small human.
Konner, who Clark is trying to be a better father figure towards, falls head over heels in love. Every little bit he manages to learn— that robin’s favorite type of pasta is linguini, or that he enjoys photography— is like a hit of heroin, leaving him hungry for *more*.
Desperate, he confides in Clark, who is thrilled to have something to bond over him with. This, he reasons, will be how he makes it up to his clone.
Besides, Clark has always had concerns about the robins— they’re so clearly human, and fragile, and so very, very *good*. It’s an atrocity that any non-metas would be acting as heroes, the idea of *children*— it keeps him up at night, sometimes.
Especially this robin, who is so small. He wants to wrap him up in his cape, to be a proper father like the bat clearly isn’t.
Kon isn’t *evil* per say but he, like Clark, is extremely condescending, viewing ordinary humans as lesser beings, who need to be guided and controlled like sheep.
In his head, he’s going to rescue his darling robin from a terrifying, short life with a despicable parental figure. He defenitely daydreams about robin become his little house-mouse of sorts— him flying home, preferably somewhere beautiful and remote, and his beautiful little husband waiting for him in a pretty sundress, or maybe making him cookies in an apron and nothing else. And he’ll be so happy to see Kon, will greet him with a laugh and leap into his arms for a kiss.
It makes Kon giddier and more excited than anything.
And Clark— well, he’ll do anything to make his protege happy, and to eliminate the bat threat. That he’ll get to expand his family is just a bonus. It’s only a matter of time.
oooh!!!! i like this concept especially since its a difficult situation and there's so much going on!! in dark universes things have the potential to be so interesting!! although i like dark universes i do occasionally like for there to be happyish(?) endings in sight. as a kid i remember watching the justice lords in the justice league tv show and being so fascinated!!!! (it's also where i first learned what lobotomy was)
like kon developing a better relationship with kon so now clark has a vested interest in perhaps getting tim for kon. but there's tension with batman and clark can't just outright take tim even though he sees how mopey kon gets when robin leaves to go back to gotham.
so long as batman is around then kon will never have that picture perfect family life he tells clark about with a wistful look in his face. robin in beautiful little dresses, making him cakes and trays of cookies. kon even turns red as he tells clark about how pretty robin is and clark has fine tuned hearing and he knows who's name kon calls out while he's behind the locked door of his bedroom (not that clark was purposefully listening but it's not the biggest apartment in the world that they share). robin would make a wonderful in law. he's all of batman's smarts and whipsharp instincts but with less of the paranoia, less of the pointing at clark like he's an enemy.
gotham is uncontrolled territory and ever since batman enacted those silent sound disrupters clark hasn't been able to hear a single thing going on in that city and that..that doesn't sit well with him.
so that's two major reasons for getting batman to step down. though clark knows the odds of that are unlikely.
but clark knows that putting in the effort to get rid of batman and finally take gotham is worth it if it's for kon and his new little wife. plus once its all said and done clark might have some grandkids to look forward to.
clark knows he and the league agreed to use robin as a bargaining chip- a sort of hostage that's not really a hostage. batman and the league were trapped in a cold war and robin was the bomb that could set things off.
clark may not be the strategist on the team but he does know enough to not try and tip those scales without a good plan.
robin likes kon. he likes superboy. the two of them are friendly enough that he disregards batman's probable warning of not offering personal information and refraining from developing connections.
clark knew batman, knew how he could be paranoid and how his tone could be construed as quite cold. after the death of his second robin clark imagines that batman wasn't the warmest or most forgiving of mentors.
robin was quite amiable although mainly tense when clark would show up. he was easy to work with and incredibly competent. clark liked him. and sometimes he forgot that he and the league were supposed to be holding a metaphorical gun to his head.
clark is under no impression that deafeating batman and taking both gotham and robin will be easy. there was a reason he and the league only struck when they knew batman was busy mourning his robin.
clark knows that robin can only be at his safest by him and kon. two men who are more than just men. because as much as robin may impress clark sometimes he is still just a human child. weak. breakable.
that's why clark was on top and someone like batman wasn't. clark could and would protect anyone and anything from everything.
it was just a matter of making sure that thing listened to him so they wouldn't get hurt.
clark knows kon feels the same. knows that he's trying desperately to get robin to remain with them, to join their side but robin is stubborn and batman has gotten into his head.
clark knows he reserves the careful lobotimization he does with his heat vision as something exclusive for the worst of the worst rogues. but he's noticed something about the rogues afterward. in how they behave.
they're...lighter. less weighed down. more willing to interact with others and listen. clark could even go so far as to say they're happier. so many rogues are miserable or full of hate and anger at themselves and the world but after clark is done with them they're calmer. more sedated. they spend their days gardening, cooking, and painting at the newly renovated psychiatric facilities.
they're so willing to listen to clark, follow his reasoning. gotham rogues are among the worst and it should say something about batman that he protects them. no gotham rogues dare leave the city limits or arkham. they know what awaits them if superman ever gets ahold of them. clark even tried offering his services to batman.
not entering the city at all, just having the rogues brought to him and allowing him to do what needed to be done.
batman had been indignant, furious even. clark had left with a horrendous headache after being driven away by a flash of kryptonite.
but that behavior rogues had after being lobotomized....
clark saw something in there as he thought of the small robin flying solo into hostile territory for the sake of his mentor and some idea of 'peace' for gotham.
he could be more obedient. have a better attitude. be calmer.
clark didn't know if he knew how to bake or cook but he's sure robin would enjoy learning for kon's sake.
robin is a stubborn bird as much clark may like him. he's like his mentor.
but between robin and batman, if clark were to weigh his odds of which one to choose. clark would choose the one he has the best chance of saving.
----
tim does get lobotomized and made to be kon's wife but this is batman's breaking point and he gets the help of every gotham vigilante and rogue to call a temporary truce for the sake of keeping gotham from superman and in turn taking down the justice lords.
kon probably fights hard to keep tim, believing that he saved him and absolutely seeing nothing wrong with superman having lobotomized tim in order to make him into the ideal with for kon.
tim returns to his family and bruce is devastated to see and decides to spend his time helping and taking care of him along side getting justice for him but disbanding and making sure anyone who had a hand in doing this to him goes down.
