For the HoM au: I’m not sure if anyone asked this before but what if the house of mouse crew somehow manages to get a pic of Yuu in a wedding dress in their hands. Like it was a picture of her trying on her mom’s wedding dress or something. Don’t ask how they got that pic.
So I can see this going one of three ways:
Pomefiore is staging a production and Yuu is wearing a wedding dress for one scene. Someone snaps a picture of it and sends it to her and she shows that picture to the lot in the club.
She wore a wedding dress during the Ghost Bride incident when they were coming up with a plan to crash Idia and Eliza's 'wedding' - it was probably used as a distraction to cause a scene and stall for time since it's a universally known fact that no one wears white to a wedding, let alone an actual wedding dress.
Yuu has a picture of herself wearing her mother's wedding dress on her phone from back in her world. Since her phone came with her, the photograph did as well and she was showing it her friends.
If it's one or two, the situation would be a bit more comical and it would start with everyone complimenting on how lovely she looks in that dress - before all hell breaks loose when one of the great seven suggests that she would even better in something that matches their (and their twst counterpart, as a result) aesthetic: (e.g. Ursula mentions that she would look absolutely radiant in a dress covered in pearls, Hades points out that she would look better in darker colours and that skulls are much cooler, the Queen of Hearst says that roses are far superior whilst Maleficent muses that jewels from Malleus' hoard would make for some lovely jewelry etc)
If it's the third situation it would be a bit more bittersweet since Yuu is happily telling everyone about her playing dress up but she's clearly upset since she misses her mother. The princesses sense this and before anyone does anything, Snow White reminisces on how her father had a portrait done when he married her mother and when she married Prince Florian, she asked her tailor to recreate that dress as a way to honour her dead parents and feel like they're still with her since her stepmother destroyed all of her mother's belongings beforehand. After she tells Yuu that she still misses her mother, Cinderella joins in and tells Yuu about her mother and then Jasmine and Belle and Ariel and every princess with a dead mother are sharing their own stories of how they miss their mothers and how much they love them and it's turned into a whole motherless support group.
Earlier, on mother's day, I was going to make a post on how the Disney characters bring their (good/not villainous) mums to the club and they all end up doting on Yuu and it ends up sort of like this where Yuu is in the middle of a hug between Queen Leah, Chicha, Human Mrs Potts, Mrs Darling and Tiana's mum and also the animal mothers like Kanga, Perdita, Mrs Jumbo, Duchess, Sarabi and Bambi's mother, etc.
But I bet Yuu would love to hear about the royal weddings between the princes and princesses.

also also also!
i wanna hear what you think overblot yuu looks like/acts like(?)
like do they have a blot monster? If so what does it look like? Is it a Disney villain or character?
what pushed yuu to overblot? Was it a sudden thing that no one really noticed or did people notice their change in behavior/appearance and kinda expected it?
what does yuu look like pre overblot? Did they gain eye bags and paler skin? Do they loose sleep during pre overblot? Do they loose weight due to spacing out or just not feeling hungry?
you don’t have to answer all of these ofc and you can add other info! Just want your ideas and thoughts!
I feel like the weight of I'm never going home and if I do leave I'll leave some of my friends here. Ans also the pressure of dealing with so many OB's since Crowley isn't doing his fucking job, I feel like they slowly start don't to care anymore. I feel like it could be gradually building up but it can also snap so quickly bc they are a stranger in a place that uses magic, their bullied in the books multiple time's and I'm pretty sure when the boy's aren't around them it's worse.
I have a feeling Crowley knew since he was the one ot push it on to them and the others knew how much they had on their plate since if they don't do Crowley's work they could get kicked out and stave, possibly die since Crowley is some what of a legal guardian since they have no records of being from this world.
Pre OB I feel like they look a little frazzle since they don't want the other's to worry about them but also mad that they don't noticed, I mean they helped them how many times and they couldn't see a little bit of signs when Yuu caught onto them almost at first glance? This plant's a seed of mistrust, and a voice in their head tells them how the boys aren't really their friend if they couldn't even see that Yuu was in pain and in need of help. Then they slowly start to look more out of it cutting off contact with the boy's since they don't seem to care about Yuu, basically when the blot start's to build up slowly but since Yuu doesn't have an outlet like the boy's they can't see their own blot forming as well, since you can see it in their pens.
I can see them having eye bags with dealing with the boy's shit for so long and adding the stress of school and Crowley it just builds up so quickly.
I also feel like and this is from another tumblr but I forgot who their blot monster is Mother Gothel since I get the feeling that Yuu's OB would be manipulating trying to keep Yuu in the state of mind where she is in control of them and can use their body to harm the boy's that caused them to be like this, making her seem like the good guy in this situation. She also manipulates memories and Yuu can't remember if their real or not so they sip more and depend on her since she is helping them.
I have a feeling the Blot goes away bc of some spell they go into Yuu's mind and fight Mother Gothel's version of themselves and fix Yuu's memory since they do care about the perfect but they didn't see how they did since Yuu was busy with Crowley's bullshit.
And those are my thoughts on them!!

He loved her.
He was utterly in love with her.
Nishinoya still can't believe how lucky he got when he bumped into a girl coming out of Asahi's class on the corridor, just when he was looking for his friend. The girl in question stumbled back while he ended up sitting on the floor. He said he was sorry while he rubbed his eyes, not realizing who he had crashed into and knowing he was the one that had been running. Instead of receiving a lecture, he listened to the most beautiful laugh he has ever heard. He opened his eyes and noticed how pretty the girl in front of him was. Her hair was a little messy, but he couldn't stop looking at the way she scrunched her face as she laughed. He noticed she was wearing thigh high black socks. The Karasuno uniform... he was now sure why he had chosen that school over the rest.
"Are you okay?" she had asked between giggles, reaching out her hand for him to take. He took it and stood up, realizing how she was more than a few inches taller than him.
"Sorry, I was looking for my friend and----"
"It's okay," she had shrugged, the smile still on her face. "You're cute, so no big deal," she winked, before going away with a couple of her friends.
Nishinoya wasn't sure how much time had passed when Asahi found him staring at the corridor the girl had disappeared to with a dumbfounded look.
The next year was a blur for him. Even if they had started dating her not even a month after their first meeting, every time he saw her, it felt like crashing and falling all over again. Even when she graduated, he always managed to find some for them to spend together, and Nishinoya couldn't wait for him to be done with school so he could achieve his dream of leaving the country and experiencing new things by her side.
What he missed the most when she didn't attend Karasuno anymore was seeing her walk around. For a while he thought she did it on purpose, parading her long legs as she walked mindlessly with her friends. Whenever she spotted Nishinoya, she automatically winked and smiled at him, knowing how he always seemed to lose his cool at her flirty ways. She laughed whenever he walked away thinking she had flustered him to the core. But most of the time, what was going through Nishinoya's mind whenever he saw her legs was ‘sit on my face’.
Sit on my face.
Sit on my face.
Sit on my face.
He thought it shouldn't have been a surprise when he asked her to do just that one time she had her house to herself.
"I'm going to crush you," she joked, shaking her head.
"What? No," he assured her. "My face only exists for you to sit on, c'mon."
"You think you're so funny," she replied, trying to hide the evident blush on her cheeks by looking away. Nishinoya wasn't taking any of it.
"Baby, I'm serious," he said, grabbing her chin and making her turn her head back to him. "My only goal for the night is to have you squeezing my head with those out-of-the-world thighs."
"Noya!" she squealed, burying her face on the crook of his neck. He didn’t understand why she looked so flustered. They had just made love a few moments ago and she was still naked in bed with him, legs tangled with his and tiny hairs stuck to her beautiful face. It was almost uncanny to see his confident girlfriend so embarrassed, but the idea that he was the one who made her feel like that filled his heart with glee.
"Every day I'm walking around school with Tanaka, I always think how I miss seeing your legs in those thigh high socks," he teased, turning her into a mess of giggles.
It doesn't take much convincing after that to make her kneel on the bed and place herself on top of his boyfriend. She sits on his chest, still a little coy about it all and Nishinoya gently pulls her closer until her wetness is right on top of his open mouth.
He starts lapping her core, a little messy but enthusiastic nonetheless, his hands grabbing her ass as he keeps her in place. He loves her lover's scent, addicting and alluring, as he keeps eating her out as if it were his last meal.
An impulsive thought about being happy if he got to die while having such a beautiful girl on top of him crosses his mind. He chuckled to himself, the vibration of his voice making her moan. Nishinoya looked up to her, his heart stopping at the sight of his girlfriend's pleasured expression, her eyes shut and her lips parted as she panted each time his tongue swirled around her clit.
Nishinoya pulled her even closer and sucked on her clit gently. She lost her balance and grabbed the headboard with one hand, the other flying to her mouth as she tried to muffle the way her moans were becoming louder and louder
Reluctantly, he paused his ministrations and patted her thigh, forcing her to look down. Once she did, she felt herself clenching over nothing as she recognized her boyfriend's determined and concentrated glare she had only seen during matches.
“I wanna hear you, babe,” he said, and she bit your lip at how hoarse his voice sounded from eating her out. “Just let go.”
Nishinoya went back to her folds, using his tongue to make her moan again, this time not trying to cover it up. He loved the sight of her losing control, gripping the headboard tightly as she lets out soft moans every time his tongue hits the right places.
Grabbing her from her ass once more, he brought her closer and set his lips around her clit. She cried out in pleasure, her hips stuttering on their own. Nishinoya could feel his face getting wetter within every second, but kept hungrily pleasuring his girlfriend. He squeezed her ass and jiggled it softly, trying to let her know it was okay to move. There wasn’t anything he wanted more than for her to use his face for her own pleasure.
It felt like magic when she started rocking her hips right on his tongue. He groaned at the feeling and heard her breathy chuckle as a response. Trying to match her pace with his tongue, he moved his hands to her breasts. He pinched her nipples and with care, loving how her hips started moving even faster when he did so.
“Yuu… I… fuck,” she moaned, and he noticed how tense her arms looked from gripping the heardboard that much. “Fuck, Iloveyousomuch,” she whispered at the same time her boyfriend squeezed her boobs.
From his nose down, Nishinoya’s whole face was wet as he kept hungrily eating her out. The promise of love she whispered mixed with her moans only riled him up more, his tongue dancing over and around her clit.
The way her thighs were squeezing his head let him know how close she was, remembering how they did the same when they were around his waist. He prolonged the rapid pace on his tongue until he heard a scream and an even tighter hold on his head, his girl’s whole body trembling on top of him. Her hips lazily moved again as she tried to ride it out, and he just let his tongue relax and let her come down from her orgasm as she wanted to.
A few moments later, she let herself fall on the bed, her body limp next to him. Her breath was heavy and ragged, her back going up and down as she tried to calm herself down. Nishinoya wiped his face with the back of his hand and put away the loose strands of hair that were covering her face. Once she locked eyes with her again, he placed a kiss on her temple, eliciting a small smile from her.
“I love you too,” he said, before wrapping her with his arms and letting his head rest on her shoulder.
He loved her, that he knew.
He was so utterly in love with her,
he didn’t want to love anyone else again.

AUHROENFOSHDJNDKD WAIT OHMYGOD ANON THANK YOU IVE BEEN MEANING TO POST MORE STUFF I ALREADY HAVE PLENTY MORE WRITTEN ABOUT EACH SO I HOPE YOURE OK WITH ME POSTING THE BASIC BIOS
Tumblr media
HEARTSLAYBUL
A band of five boys looking to enjoy the rest of their highschool experience together before moving on to the real world as adults.
Riddle Rosehearts; A junior at Night Raven, and the young heir to his mother's company. He wishes to do the best he can to take on her business once he graduates, though feels pressured to do so.
Trey Clover; A senior at Night Raven, and Riddle's childhood friend. He looks forward to having enjoyable moments with Riddle and the others before graduating and moving on to college.
Cater Diamond; A senior at Night Raven, and a generally easy-going and "people's person" type of guy with a need to make others around him smile. He thought joining a band might be a good way to promote his social media, and an overall nice change of pace.
Deuce Spade; A sophomore at Night Raven, and a former "bad boy", Deuce is looking to redeem himself so that he can have a pleasant and worry-free highschool experience.
Ace Trappola; A sophomore at Night Raven, and a bonafide flirt as well as an active troublemaker/class clown. He thought joining a band might garner him more attention from girls.
SAVANACLAW
A band of three boys looking to make a change, and their voices heard in the world. Struggling with different issues, they decided to come together to form a band.
Leona Kingscholar; A "super" senior at Night Raven, and the second-born son of a recently-deceased millionaire. Feels as if he was cheated out of his "rightful" inheritance, he hopes to vent his frustrations via music.
Ruggie Bucchi; A junior at Night Raven, and a lower-class student who was lucky to make it to the prestigious school in the first place. He joined Leona's band in hopes of getting famous and being able to give back to the struggling community he grew up in.
Jack Howl; A sophomore at Night Raven, he looks up to his seniors and hopes to support their efforts as best he can, and joins Leona's band to put his drumming skills to good use.
OCTAVINELLE
A band formed by three childhood friends hoping to promote the Monstro Lounge, a restaurant gifted to Azul by his parents. Found out that they enjoy performing together as a band, and decide to continue even after the Lounge gains traction.
Azul Ashengrotto; A junior at Night Raven, and a young yet passionate restaurant owner. He hopes to make it in the restaurant business, and formed a "temporary" band with Floyd and Jade to promote the Lounge.
Jade Leech; A junior at Night Raven, and childhood friend of Azul. He wishes the best for his friend, even if it means joining his band and working at his restaurant.
Floyd Leech; A junior at Night Raven, and childhood friend of Azul. A bit of a loose cannon and rather unpredictable, it was a miracle that he agreed to joining Azul's "temporary" band.
SCARABIA
A duo focused on sharing their culture with others, Kalim's only real goal being to make others smile while Jamil tries his best to keep him out of trouble.
Kalim Al-Asim; A junior at Night Raven, and a wealthy foreign-exchange student sent to attend with his servant, Jamil. He thought it would be fun to perform music and pick up an instrument, hoping to spread the joy his culture brings him to others.
Jamil Viper; A junior at Night Raven, and a fellow foreign-exchange student sent to watch over Kalim while they're overseas attending school. He decided to perform with Kalim as to make sure he wouldn't get in any trouble or messy situations, picking up an instrument as well.
POMEFIORE
A band of three boys formed by an agency with the goal of spreading Vil's influence as a celebrity. Clashing opinions oftentimes cause concern for the stability of their band in the long run.
Vil Schoenheit; A senior at Night Raven, and a famous model/social media influencer hoping to dip his feet and test the waters of the music industry. He demanded that the agency only pick him the "fairest" musicians to choose for his band.
Rook Hunt; A senior at Night Raven, as well as a friend and admirer of Vil's. He decided to pick up the bass in the past but never got serious with it until he heard that Vil was looking to form a band, and asked to join.
Epel Felmier; A sophomore at Night Raven, and a candidate hand-picked by Vil's agency. He hates the thought of being seen as fragile and "pretty", and started learning how to play the drums by Jack. He oftentimes has opinions differing from Vil's, and gets irritated easily by arguing with him.
IGNIHYDE
A pair of siblings hiding anonymously behind the alias of "Ignihyde", they work together as a DJ duo.
Idia Shroud; A senior at Night Raven and a textbook shut-in, he has a talent when it comes to technology, and secretly enjoys making his own music in his free time. Prefers to keep to himself, and is viewed as "the strange student", or even as "mysterious".
Ortho Shroud; A child attending the local middle school, he oftentimes comes after school in hopes of Idia opening up more around others. He was involved in an incident that left him missing a leg and needing a prosthetic, oftentimes joking that he's like a robot because of how the prosthetic is modeled. Asks Idia if he can sing for some of his songs, or at least help him with the instrumentals, even if the answer is usually an embarrassed "no".
DIASOMNIA
A band of four who've known eachother for most of their lives and act as family, and are hoping to stay with eachother for many more. They have decided to create slightly altered "personas" to act as onstage.
Malleus Draconia; A college student attending the local university his grandmother works at, in hopes of taking up her place as a professor once she retires as a means of "continuing her legacy", as Lilia jokingly phrases it. His "onstage persona" is a powerful mage and dragon fae who rules over a civilization.
Lilia Vanrogue; An older college student who never had the chance previously to attend, becoming a father and caretaker by the time he was fresh out of highschool. He used to play the bass, but had to prioritize taking care of Silver and Malleus over his own personal hobbies. He thought it might be fun to start a band with Malleus and Silver. His "onstage persona" is a vampire fae who acts as an advisor to the powerful dragon fae in power.
Silver Vanrogue; A junior at Night Raven, he's a rather sleepy and quiet individual who suffers from narcolepsy, even if it isn't immediately obvious. He's rather indifferent to the idea of being in a band with his father (and Malleus, who he somewhat views as an adoptive brother), and his "onstage persona" is that of a knight training to protect and serve the powerful dragon fae ruling over the faerie civilization.
Sebek Zigvolt; A sophomore at Night Raven, he's actually a rather shy and skittish boy when not acting as his onstage persona, though he's taken to adapting it into his regular behavior to fit his tall and intimidating stature. He decided to join his childhood friend, Silver, in Malleus' band, hoping to grow less shy and to impress Malleus, seeing him as an older brother figure. His "onstage persona" is a rather boisterious yet serious knight-in-training, hoping to live up to his master's expectations and more.
EXTRA INFO
- Night Ravens is a group formed by all seven main vocalists to perform a song for homecoming week, as per the request of the oh-so-generous Principal Crowley.
- No magic exists in this AU. Think of it as a sort of "spin-off" BanG Dream! universe.
- The Diasomnia boys still go by their names onstage, though they act differently according to their onstage personas.
- Each dorm name is their band name. For example, Octavinelle would perform regularly at the Monstro Lounge.
- Any boy that might have "strange" or non-human features are human. If they get body modifications (such as the twins with their teeth, perhaps) then they keep it, but Malleus doesn't have horns offstage, the Savanaclaw boys don't have animalistic features, the Octavinelle boys cannot turn into mermen (sea creatures?), and both Idia and Ortho have normal hair, even if it may be dyed.
- Ortho is a normal human boy, though he lost his left leg in a currently unspecified incident that might be delved into at a later point in time. All that will be currently mentioned is that Idia feels immense guilt and like he was the one responsible for it happening.
- In this AU, it isn't specified whether Silver is adopted or if he's Lilia's biological son. Malleus was put into Lilia's care as his parents couldn't be bothered to raise him/make the time to care for him and his grandmother is busy as a well-known and highly-regarded university professor.
- The setting that this AU takes place in is a city based in a country similar to the United States, and works on the United States school system. This is moreso for convenience on my end, though as it is unspecified it can be adapted to other school systems as needed.
- The faculty are all teachers at the school, though Sam runs an on-campus convenience store. Yuu is the insert character, and Grim is an online friend of Yuu who very conveniently happens to attend Night Raven as well.

[information]
I decided since my old 2021 Resolutions post was so horrifically out of date, that I should write a new pinned post. I recommend reading this for information about me.
First: no more writing resolutions. I'll write what I can, when I an.
Second: I am non-binary/agender. Pronouns are they/them, though I responded to she/her so long that I am not bothered by them. I'm also asexual & aromantic.
Third: I am nearly fifty. My fandoms of choice are, in no given order, are: Power Rangers (MMPR-PRLR, with occasional dips into later ones), Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Frontier, Digimon Xros Wars/Hunters, Digimon Applimonsters, Digimon NEXT, YGO DM, YGO GX, YGO 5Ds, YGO Zexal, YGO Arc-V, YGO VRAINS, YGO Sevens, Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boubeiu Love & Love Love, Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boubei Happy Kiss, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, and Trollhunters. Digimon tri & Digimon Kizuna I might take small bits from but am not overly fond of them. Nothing more needs to be said on that front. YGO GX is the blood in my veins. I am unlikely to writee any given game for Pokemon.
Fourth: I have a large backlog of prompts for fics, both submitted by others and taken up for myself. If you wish to send in a prompt, the inbox is always open but it may take time for me to get to it, depending on my mood and what the prompt sparks. Please check "higuchimon prompts" for lists of prompts.
I warned you. All right. Here we go. You'll see some concepts and preferences pop up repeatedly. Tread with caution.
Digimon Adventure 02
Non-epilogue compliant: fics where the epilogue (and now that they exist, Tri and Kizuna) isn't going to happen. Non-canon ships (most often Ken x Daisuke & Taichi x Yamat0) abound. Fics seldom related to one another unless otherwise noted.
Loss, Gain, & Other Heartaches: A new enemy brainwashes a lot of human Chosen and their partners, after destroying the original twelve's patners, leading to the Digimon's data being merged with the Chosen's.
Division of Destiny: What if Vamdemon turned Sora into a vampire and from there defeated the Chosen? Well, he ended up turning Taichi, Jou, & Mimi into vampires as well, while imprisoning Hikari and giving Yamato, Takeru, and Koushiro to Piemon and the Dark Masters as slaves. A pesky rebellion formed of Daisuke, Iori, Miyako, Ken, Osamu, and various other charactes tries to fight them. Firm ships are currently just Ken x Daisuke.
When Blood Crosses: Oh, one of my favorites and probably my oldest AU altogether. What if humans and Digimon could have children together? And what if they did already? Seven out of twelve of the Chosen are part Digimon - or more. This is a full-blown multiverse. Stories don't always relate to one another, but the basic concepts tend to be the same. Ships can vary but for the most part are Taichi x Yamato, Jou x Koushiro, Mimi x Sora, Hikari x Miyako, Ken x Daisuke, and Takeru x Iori. Not averse to Piemon x Takeru, either.
Quiet Interlude: Little fluffy pieces featuring Taichi x Yamato in an establihsed relationship during 02 and beyond.
Adaptions: I don't have much written here but I have Such Plans. It will involve Things Happening to Taichi (in season 1) and Daisuke (season 2). It will probably end with Taichi x Yamato and Ken x Daisuke.
Take To The Skies: In this world, some people have wings and can fly. Daisuke is a Flier. The Digimon Kaiser thinks that makes him the perfect pet. But he will need training, of course. Kaiser x Daisuke. Other stories might involve the others who have wings.
Return of Old Enemies: Takeru is captured by two strange Digimon and collared so he can't speak. That's only the beginning of what's going on.
Fragmented Memory: Kaiser x Daisuke. Kaiser has wiped Daisuke's memory and convinced him that they're together. The other Chosen are not happy about this.
Broken Bonds: A soulmate AU featuring Piemon x Takeru. This is also a breeds AU. Piemon murders Patamon and takes Takeru.
Fight To Remember: Kaiser has lost his memory. So has Daisuke. Together, they need to learn who they were, who they are, and who they're going to be. Ken x Daisuke, obviously.
Services Rendeed: Daisuke gets poisoned and the cure lies within territory controlled by the Kaiser. The only way to save him is for the Kaiser to do it. His price - Daisuke himself. To be his until he gets bored with Daisuke. Sadly, the Kaiser isn't easily bored. Ken x Daisuke.
Stirring Shadows: Ken had a very naughty dream about being the Kaiser again and wanting to dominate Daisuke instead of the Digital World. Now, it was just a dream - right? Ken x Daisuke, older.
Scars of Victory: The Digimon Kaiser defeated the Chosen and took Daisuke as his trophy. For seven years he's ruled over the Digital World unopposed, having blocked the older Chosen from entering the Digital World. Now the barriers have dropped - and revenge is best served cold. Ken x Daisuke, brainwashing, off-screen death.
Course of Events: Set in a breeds AU: Vamdemon notices something unusual about Daisuke when he's in line to meet Tailmon and sends him to Piemon, who discovers who and what he is. How interesting. No current ships.
Walking The Edge: The Chosen have fought the Kaiser for years without knowing his true identity. Daisuke has also been dating Ichijouji Ken for years. So when the Kaiser finally reveals who he is - well, Daisuke has a choice to make. And the Kaiser will only allow one.
Dark Brotherhood: breeds AU. Ken, as Kaiser, has discovered that his half-brother is Yamato. Or rather, Anbumon. An alliance is offered. Ships: Yamato x Taichi & Ken x Daisuke.
Danger Zone: The Kaiser is very annoyed at Daisuke's continued existence as his enemy. So he decides to change where Daisuke's allegiance lies. Kaiser x Daisuke.
Hidden Truths: Miyako-centered breeds AU, also involving Jou and his dark side Fuseiimon. No ships centered, but light indicationss of Ken x Daisuke, Jou x Koushiro, and Taichi x Yamato.
Errors of Love: Aged up AU. Daisuke is dating the Kaiser. This is probably a very terrible mistake. KEn x Daisuke.
Magical Educations In Love: Magical school AU. Established ships: Ken x Daisuke, with possible Ken x Daisuke x Takeru.
Shadowed Soul: Piemon x Vamdemon x Takeru. is it love or just sex? Takeru wishes he knew. It's also a soulmate AU.
Melody of the Heart: A world of magic and magical creatures. Loosely a mirror of my breeds verse (and I do mean loosely). Established ships: Taichi x Yamato, Ken x Daisuke, Jou x Koushiro, Mimi x Sora. Others to come.
What He Wants: M rated/non-con, Kaiser x Daisuke. That's pretty much all there is to it. Just a couple of drabbles now but I'll expand it later.
Game of Life: breeds AU. The Kaiser's noticed something about some of the Chosen and wants to know what's going on. Undecided ships.
Bitter Bargains: The Chosen have fought the Kaiser for years. He's shown a rough attachment to Daisuke - kidnapping him on a regular basis. Then one day, Daisuke wakes up to find the Kaiser in his bedroom. Oh, dear. Non-con Kaiser x Daisuke.
Sanguine Bindings: Aged up AU - and Ken's a vampire, who mind-controlled Daisuke from episode 2 onward. Brainwashing/mind control/non-graphic non-con.
Purpose of Existence: Kaiser found out about Daisuke being a very special breed and claimed him for his own. Daisuke doesn't like this but something isn't right - he listens, whether he wants to or not. Aged up/breeds AU. Ken x Daisuke.
Buds and Blossoms: A romance between Hikari and Mimi. That's about it.
No Good Decisions: Daisuke accidently eats something he shouldn't have in the Digital World. It wouldn't be so bad - if the Kaiser hadn't found him and determined that someone needed to watch him. Ken x Daisuke.
Blood Of His Blood: Breed AU. Piemon wants to live again and will ensure that he does, through his oldest son.
For All Time: Taichi's been in an accident and Yamato's not sure when he will wake up. Taichi x Yamato.

Bonds & Bondage: Kaiser goes ahead and Rings V-mon. This affects Daisuke, unexpectedly. Now what will the Chosen do? Ken x Daisuke.
Fireblood: Breeds/Firestarter/Healer AU. Vamdemon bites Yamato and awakens his dark side - not good for anyone at all. Taichi x Yamato.
Flaming Ivy: The 02 Chosen are Healers and Firestarters and are working out what that means for them. Ken x Daisuke.
Digimon Tamers
Fair Wings: Some of the Tamers have wings, including Juri, Kenta, and Ruki. Adventunres and romance thereof. Established relationship: Juri x Takato.
Digimon Frontier
Consequences of Games: Just a set of fluffy post-canon fanfics featuring the Chosen playing games and what happens after the games. Firm ships include Kouji x Kouichi and Junpei x Izumi.
Heirs Apparent: Lucemon's spirit escaped confinement and was able to have an encounter with Kimura Tomoki, siring twin boys.
Godslave: So, Lucemon is the God-King of the world, ruling humans and Digimon alike. What he wants, he gets. And now he wants Kouji.
Tales of WInd and Water: Stories that cicle around Ranamon and Izumi.
Reflections of Dark Shadows: An AU where Kouji doesn't have a twin. What he does have is a reflection - and the reflection doesn't like his boyfriend. Established Takuya x Kouji, one-sided Kouichi x Kouji.
The Wind-child: A fantasy AU where Izumi is the daughter of AncientIrismon and has many adventures.
Yu-Gi-Oh Xros Wars/Hunters
Not Telling All: Yuu is a vampire with a taste for Tagiru. Tagiru doesn't know - at least not yet.
Hunting The Great Game: A rewrite of Xros Wars/Hunters. Set three years instead of one after the Xros Wars. Taiki finds himself back in the Digital World and that's where it all begins.
Digimon NEXT
Knight Tales: Fantasy AU. Kahara Shou's village is slaughtered and burned down and he's the only survivor. Taken in by Barbamon, he becomes the Demon Lord's devoted Knight.
Yu-Gi-Oh DM
Pleasures of Shadows: Yami no Malik has been revived as an incubus.
Crimeland: An AU where there are three Kaiba brothers (Seto, Seth, and Mokuba) and - many other differences I haven't gotten to writing yet. Only set 'ship is Seto x Kisara.
Uncertain Choices: A modern day AU, with Atemu and Yuugi as twin brothers. Only set ship right now is Atemu x Mahaado. If I ever finish the sequel I have in mind, I will add Seto x Yuugi.
Ways of Magic: a magical AU. Seto and Mokuba are dragons. Pegasus is a sorcerer. Mai is a pirate queen. Otogi is a djinn. A few scattered set pairings such as Otogi x Bakura Ryou.
Heart of Magic: a magical AU. This one involves a magical school where various characters are students or teachers. Established ships: Atemu x Mahaado.
Gifts of Power: A Superhero AU. A large chunk of people have powers. Established relationship: Isis x Mana.
Yu-Gi-Oh GX
Reversal AU: In canon, Juudai has the poewr of the Gentle Darkness. Here, in a world very like Dark World but with differences (such as a sun), he has the power of the Destructive Darkness - and he is pure evil, enjoys it, and has the overall goal of destroying all of creation. A small, plucky rebellion stands against him. Do they stand a chance? Time will tell. Be warned: non-consensual Juudai x Johan, as well as someone becoming a vampire, and many other twisted plot points. I love this AU.
Stronger Than Water: We don't know much about Johan's past. So what if he actually grew up in Dark World, as Brron's adopted son? And was sent to kill Juudai? Firm ships are Yubel x Juudai and maybe Yubel x Juudai x Johan. I havevn't gotten far enough to be sure.
Hell's Ice: What if Ryou were the one taken by Kagemaru and Amnael instead of Fubuki? Well, add in some elemental affinities and we have the Hell Kaiser of Ice - one of the Seven Stars. No set ships othe than Yubel x Juudai, though I am debating a few.
Itch To Scratch: Juudai and Yubel are demons. Johan's an angel - or he thinks he is, anyway. What he really is, he'll find out eventually. Firm ship is Yubel x Juudai x Johan.
Bridges: So, in this series, Juudai's power is that of the Light of Creation. Johan has the Gentle Darkness - and Juudai has been possessed by the Light of Ruin for seven thousand years.
Dead Weight: It's the zombie apocalypse! Ahhh! No set in stone ships yet.
King's Champion: When a late-night break-in goes very wrong, Yubel ends up taking Juudai to Dark World for his own safety. He ends up being raised by Brron. But taking him away from Earth has consequence, both good and bad. Yubel x Juudai. Not ruling out Yubel x Juudai x Johan in the future.
Shadow Demons: Juudai: King of Hell, with Yubel and Johan as his Consorts. Ryou, a demon prince. Fujiwara Yuusuke, a shadow mage with Honest as his guardian angel. Fubuki as an angel of love. Asuka slays evil vampires. And much, much more. Established ships: Ryou x Yuusuke and Yubel x Juudai x Johan.
Echoes: Rewrites of different parts of GX. Currently only the Haou arc, but others to come. Established ships: technically none but eventually Yubel x Juudai.
In The Shadows of the Fae: Juudai is the King of the Fae with Yubel and Johan as consorts, and Shou as his servant. A delicious AU that I enjoy. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai x Johan.
In Chains: Fantasy AU. Brron is gifted Shou as a slave, and Shou has to deal with that. Not easy. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai x Johan & Edo x Ryou x Saiou.
In Any World: A series of non-connected Yubel x Juudai AUs. Each is a one-shot and is in a different AU.
Past and Future: Yubel shows Juudai events that happened in their past lives together, as they forge a new future with one another. Yubel x Juudai.
Sky Stories: A lot of people have wings. Juudai didn't - until he fused with Yubel. Ryou has rusted metal wings - until Edo takes care of them. ANd many more stories. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai x Johan.
To Accept Fate's Will: A soulmate AU. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai, Edo x Saiou x Ryou. O'Brien x Sea God's Priestess.
Hole In Your Heart: Not fighting means that Shou's in danger. Especially when he gets captured and sold to one of Haou's servants. As if his third year wasn't already going downhill. No actual ships that I know of (probable future Yubel x Juudai)
In Space, In Light: Juudai sent Yubel into space to be healed by the Gentle Darkness. In canon, it failed. Here, it worked. Uh-oh. Yubel x Juudai.
Paladin's Quest: post ending series. Ryou dies of heart failure and is reborn as a duel spirit without his memories of his past. But that's going to change, because what he did in Dark World cannot be forgotten.
In Darkness We Find FIre: An AU of my own devising, that I call Healer/Firestarter. Healers can heal & communicate/grow plants, and Firestarters bun things. There are a lot more details than that but this tale is a retelling of canon through that lens. Established ship: Yubel x Juudai.
Politics of Ages: Asuka is a vampire queen with two consorts: Manjoume and Ryou. Lots of vampiric politics.
Infinite Love: A magical AU with soulmates. Features Ryou x Yuusuke, Camula x Ruthven (OC), and Edo x Saiou.
King's Knights: Post-canon series. Juudai offers Ryou, Fubuki, and Yuusuke as his Knights. But that's just the beginning. Johan has his own tale to tell.
Passion's Flight: Soul-wings universe. Established asexual/aromantic Asuka. Future Yubel x Juudai.
Prisoner of the Black Tower: Johan is trapped in a black tower by someone called Haou. He doesn't know who that is. And he wants to leave.
Apprentices: A mild alternate timeline, where Kyle and Nero from season 3 meet and become friends - while in Haou's dungeon.
World of Fusion: Brron fused all the dimensions and the world that results is so very different. Now Brron also has three sons: Juudai, Johan, and Rune (the Johan lookalike from season 3). Also, Ryou is a vampire. Established relationships: Yubel x Juudai.
Fate's Heart: Multiple tales of Yubel and Juudai as soulmates.
Power of Earth: Healer/Firestarter AU, featuring Jim and O'Brien.
Family Flowers: Healer/Firestarter AU, featuring Rick and Cobra.
Red Zinnias: Healer/FIrestarter AU, featuring Saiou and Edo
Destructive Flames: A merging of the Firestater/Healer AU and the Reversal AU. It's even less fun than the usual REvers - well, for values of fun.
Spirit Friends: People become friends with Duel Spirits aren't in their decks. Such as Wolf for Juudai and SQuall for Amon.
Bonds of Kinship: Exploring the relationship between Johan and the lookalike - his twin brother.
Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal
Order of the Outcasts: A fantasy AU loosely inspired by AD&D. The Order of the Outcasts is the Barians. Yuuma is a powerful healing mage and Astral is his fae companion. Much fun to be had! Co-written with SilvorMoon.
Committed To Her: Kotori is Queen Merag's slave, and devotedly loves her. Merag would like to return it, but it's not that easy. Obviously, a Merag x Kotori story, and an AU.
Cry of Vengeance: Vector wants revenge on Nasch for a long-ago offense, so he attacks Nasch's boyfriend Durbe. But that's not all he wants his revenge on and he has an interesting way to get it. Vampire/slight magic AU.
On Dragon's Wings: Mizael is a dragon. Vector is a prince who becomes a demon. And many other changes for a fantasy AU. Established ships are Vector x Mizael and Alit x Leo.
Inevitable Encounters: soulmate AU and how they deal with it. Established ships: Kaito x Yuuma, Durbe x Nasch, Kotoi x Merag/Rio, Vector x Mizael
Fae Whispers: Durbe x Chris. Chris is a Fae Prince who offers for Durbe to become a Fae Knight.
Different Numbers: Another soulmate AU. Features Durbe x Nasch, Vector x Mizael, V/Chris x Kaito, Gilag x Sanagi, & Alit x III/Michael x Yuuma.
Prison of the Prince: Vector wishes to keep Fae Prine Mizael as his prisoner. Mizael isn't so thrilled about that. Vecto x Mizael.
Hating Humanity: Durbe finds Nasch and Merag before the Astral Messenger arrive. Without Yuuma's influence, what will Nasch do? Durbe x Nasch.
Blurring: There are multiple ways to detect one's soulmate. Mizael has Vector's name on his right arm and Kaito's on his left - right arm is for the soulmate and left for the enemy.
Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V
Beat of Wings: Some characters have wings, including Yuuya, Yuuto, Yuugo, and Yuuri. And Shun. And others. No real ships (that I know of) and Yuuri is going to have fun!
Life With A Demon: Featuring Masumi x Yuzu, Asuka x Selena, and past Selena x Masumi. Demon AU, along with other creatures of magic.
Confusing: Yuuri has captured Shun and is training him to be a warrior of Fusion. Shun would rather not - but his mind is now Yuuri's plaything.
Angels, Demons, and Deciding Factors: Angel/demon AU. Yuuri is a demon, who encounters the angel Shun in his territory. Yuuri decides that he wants this angel for his own - mostly because Shun doesn't want that, nor does Yuuto. M rated/consent issues/brainwashing.
Collars and Keeping: Yuuri captured Shun early in the war and Shun escapes the first chance he gets. But Yuuri won't let him go - and there's a horrible punishment awaiting his pet.
Fae Song: Selena x Rin x Ruri x Yuzu. Selena is a Fae Princess and the others are her servants.
Deadly Daughter: Professor Leo Akaba decides he can't trust Yuuri and thus trains Selena to be his sgent to find and captue the other gils with her face. Selena's girlfriend, Asuka, helps - only seeing what happened in the war turns her away from Fusion. Undecided ships.
Dragon and Falcon: Yuuri's a dragon & Shun's a shapeshifting falcon. Yuuri claimed Shun as a part of his hoard and his servant. And it just seems that dragon saliva does something to shapeshifters. non-con/drugged Yuuri x Shun.
Soulwings: In this AU, when soulmates meet one another (or when one's true purpose is found), wings are developed. So when Kaito and Edo cross paths... Established Kaito x Edo and alluded to Yuuri x Shun.
Strike Hard, Strike Fast: Vampire AU. Sora, Yuuri, and Dennis are vampires. Ruri and Shun are vampire hunters. So when Shun crosses their paths, Yuuri decides to take him for his own.
Opposite Ends: Yuugo is brought to Shingo as his slave. Yuugo doesn't like Shingo. Oh, they're going to have a lot of fun.
Dragonflame and Nature's Spark: A HEaler/FIrestater rewrite of Arc-V, mostly featuring Ryou and Mizael, along with Yuuri and Vector. Ship: Ryou x Mizael, Durbe x Chris, and Shou x Michael.

Crossovers

Replacement Vampire: YGO GX & Digimon Adventure 02: Post his defeat in 02, Vamdemon awakens in his Perfect form again, in a new world, where he meets someone he never thought he would - a female vampire. Camula didn't think she'd ever see another vampire. He's not quite her species, but he's definitely her type. Firm ship: Camula x Vamdemon. Also, vampire Seven Star!Ryou.
Scorpion Strike: YGO GX & YGO Zexal: Ryou wakes up in the Barian World, and doesn't know his name or anything else. But he's a Barian now, so he works for the Barian World. Ryou x Mizael.
Those are all my current series. Here are the series that I have waiting in the wings:
Power Rangers
Unexpected Tales: A series of fics about ships I like: Rita x Zedd, Emily x Jason, and Tanya x Adam.
Yellow & Blue: A pair of fics involving Trini x Billy

Different Kind of Darkness: When Juudai encounters a vampire before his rule in Dark World begins, everything takes a dip to a deeper darkness.
After Academia: Graduating doesn't mean that their adventurs have ended. They're just different now. Yubel x Juudai.
Colors of Love: A different soulmate concept - those who have soulmates only see the colors of their soulmate's hair and eyes until they meet - at which point they see all colors, and sprout their wings. Edo x Saiou and Yubel x Juudai, with others to come.
Hi Kari Kouri E: Healer/Firestarter. Kagemaru wants a powerful Frostflame on his Seven Stars team, so sends people to recruit a six year old Marufuji Ryou. Future Yubel x Juudai and Ryou x Yuusuke.

BKCBL
Seduction of Shadows: a realm with Io being human, Akoya being a demon, and Ryuu being an angel.

walpurga-nacht-academy: Yuuki's opinions on the Prefects in the WNA!Yuu AU? 👀
@walpurga-nacht-academy
Rosalia Morgainne
Tumblr media
“Rosalia looks cute and all, but she’s still a prefect of this school....”
While Rosa may seem harmless due to her looks, Yuuki doesn’t loosen her guard around her. She considers the fact that Rosa is a prefect and concludes that she must be very capable in magic, thus she shouldn’t be looked down upon. When learning of Rosa’s celebrity status, Yuuki is understanding of Rosa’s desire to change people’s perceptions of herself. After all, she was seen as a walking dormant from her old world. Also Yuuki can’t help it, but to compare Rosa’s plight to Perfect Blue the j-pod idols from her world that try to branch out from their “innocent” personals.
Possibility of Friendship: 68%
Blanche Dion
Tumblr media
“I’ve seen her in the library before, she seems very smart and very stiff...”
Is very impressed with Blanche’s academic achievements. So impressed that she has considered asking the other rabbit girl for help in researching a way back home. Though Blanche’s strict attitude might detract Yuuki a bit. Any concerns Yuuki has towards Blanche would be focused on how much she down plays her own achievements. Sure there may be other people better than you, but that doesn’t take away the passion and effort you put in to your works.
Possibility of Friendship: 69%
Marcia Pyroeis
Tumblr media
“She’s very energetic, someone who I wouldn’t mind being friends with. I hope she doesn’t overwork herself.”
Yuuki can appreciate a hard worker when she sees one and is amazed by Marcia’s achievements. Though she worries about Marcia overworking herself with all theses side jobs and competitions. It’s great that she’s working hard for her dad, but she needs to take care of herself too! Yuuki can understand about not wanting to be an inconvenience to her family and locking up any issues, thinking that it’ll help. However she knows that will only make things worse. She hopes that Marcia will stop belittling her own problems. This isn’t an angst competition, it’s okay to ask for help!
Possibility of Friendship: 75%
June Himalia
Tumblr media
“I like to garden, she likes to garden. Nuff said.”
Honestly I want to believe that these two would be instant friends for both the “Vita irritates me” solidarity and gardening! However I’m sure she would be intimidated by June’s aggressive nature, but she still does have Yuuki’s respect with how responsible she is! Though, Yuuki does wonder if all these responsibilities that June’s been given as a prefect might be too much for her. Especially with how much of a short fuse June seems to be.
Possibility of Friendship: 65%
Diana Arrow
Tumblr media
“Sharp, distant, and quiet. What more can I say about Diana? She’s a beast, and I mean that in both ways good and bad.”
Remember when I said June intimidates Yuuki? Well Diana tops that intimidation ten fold. Yuuki sees her to the equivalent of a warrior princess Wonder Woman. She finds Diana’s strength and wit very admirable, but that beastly side of her’s can really send shivers down to Yuuki’s spine. If they could become friends I see them bonding over animals and maybe Yuuki helping out with taking care of the monsters maybe not so close to the felines though. Possibility of Friendship: 69%
Cassandra Delphinne
Tumblr media
“She’s very nice! And her vast knowledge of obscure facts of media can be interesting!”
Friends. They are friends that bond over their love for their grandparents, photography, and birds. Base on her own experiences, Yuuki would have a decent understanding of Cass’s issues with being used by others. She knows how selfish those kinds of people can be and how detrimental it is to be used by these kinds of people. She’s wants Cassandra to know that’s it’s okay to say “no” to the world, especially if it’s for your own self care.
Possibility of Friendship: 80%
Agatha Voisin
Tumblr media
“She thinks I’m friends with Vita... Not sure if she wants to be friends or if she wants to eat me...”
Honestly Yuuki doesn’t mind Agatha at all! Sure the weird nick names and sharp teeth does kinda feel like the scary mermaid wants to eat her, but hey at least she can act friendly as she can be. That’s decent compare to how other people in the academy had treated her. Yuuki knows what it’s like being a fish out of water and how terrible people can be, so I think she would be understanding of Agatha’s plight in making friends. Doesn’t fully understand how someone can look up to Vita of all people, but to each their own I guess.
Possibility of Friendship: 50%
Vita Dies
Tumblr media
“Vita Dies. What can I say about Vita Dies? They’re so much to be said about her, but this needs to be short. She’s very intelligent and devoted, plus she has that dread queen personality that I would imagine a witch having... I don’t appreciate being seen as a toy to play with by her. Though I’m sure once the novelty of me being from a different world ends, she’ll loose interest and leave me alone....hopefully.”
One would think that she hates Vita, but hate is such a strong word. It’s more like, Yuuki would rather not have Vita near her. Other than that, she could admit that Vita does have some admirable traits. She can appreciate a smart and dedicated person, but not a troll. It’s funny, these two have several significant things in common (great relationships with their grandparents, a love for knowledge, respectful of traditions...) and could be good friends if only they give the other a chance...
Possibility of Friendship: 10%

I just read your essay on why Akiren has 0 social stats at the beginning of the game and I completely agree with you. I have another question for you though. Why do you think Yu and Minato had 0 social stats at the beginning of their games? Maybe for Minato it’s because he numbed himself to the world due the trauma of his parents’ deaths. For Yu, I think it might be him trying not to get attached to people since he’s only going to be there for a year.
minato’s reason is definitely bc of his apathy. homeboi looked yukari dead in the eyes and asked “Is dying really that scary to you?” he lives his life in apathy which is a nice nice tie-in for the in-game apathy syndrome thing.
in P3, minato’s journey was about him learning the value of life. forming mortal connections that grew so powerful that he chose to become the great seal to protect the world. throughout the game, some of his dialogue options actively break social links and you as a player have to work to keep those links intact. and there’s the manner of summoning personas.
the 0 social stats for minato is likely because he has no reason to better himself. he’s just there. its more noticeable in the movie but early game minato is an apathetic empty mess. only when you advance in the game and form bonds w people does minato seem like he’s actually enjoying life. the rise of social stats is probably minato actually learning those skills.
notice that he only has 3 stats to raise: charm, intelligence, and courage. those 3 make sense to be the stats he focuses on throughout the game. academics is easily improved by studying. charm can easily be interpreted as how comfortable he is with himself. courage is. courage. and these 3 tie in the game’s theme nicely. p3′s central theme i think is accepting death. loss. grief. feeling emotion and destroying apathy. as minato raises his stats throughout the game, he equips himself with the necessary tools to handle loss and death.
max stat end game minato is simply him actually growing as a person and slowly beginning to enjoy life. he learns to enjoy life so much that he gives his own to protect the lives of everything else and im still not fucking over it.
.
for yu, admittedly, im not. that familiar w his story. i havent played p4 in a long long time but p4 is essentially about finding the truth, never giving in to ignorance, etc. its been really long yall.
p4′s story is more straightforward than 3 and 5 so i think yu’s stat progression is also a bit more linear and not as complicated. it’s straightforward. 3 has an existential crisis with judeo-christian undertones and conspiracies and the whole shinjiro-ken debacle and lots of conflicting motives from the sees on why they’re fighting. yukari has her father, ken has revenge, mitsuru has the kirijo name, etc. 5 is a heist movie turned into a game with all of the twists and turns heist movies have and all the PTs have their own reasons for pursuing justice.
with p4, their sole motivation is to uncover the truth. all of them have that one thing in mind and they all work together towards that goal. there are definitely bumps along the road but all of them want to get to the bottom of the matter. to uncover what the fog’s been hiding, to answer all the mysteries they’ve been presented with.
on that note, yu is probably developing his skills for the sake of developing his skills. he has responsibility as leader and senpai to be on top of everything and to be someone his team can rely on. all of them are stumbling in the dark. p3 has mitsuru and akihiko who help guide minato. p5 has morgana and igor who do the same thing for akiren. p4 has no one. teddy knows almost nothing about the shadow world. teddy has a very loose identity (and it becomes a plot point for him) and yu has to lead every single one of the IT through nothing.
so that would be a big reason for him to improve his stats. he wants to be better for his team. he wants to be someone they can depend on. he wants to be needed and be connected with them. (he loved his team so much that he imagined the whole trapped in inaba forever sequence) his stat improvement is him wanting to be better for the sake of being better. so he can explore more of the shadow world. so he can connect deeper with his friends and his team.
imo p4 did a better job w the whole connecting thing than 3 or 5. 3 is overshadowed by the plot. the whole “beat a shadow to advance confidant” thing in 5 was handled poorly. 4 focused on the slink and slink alone so there was more development. plus branching dialogue that’s affected by the previous slink rank. you can feel like youre actually connecting with these people so you want to know them better and to know them better you need to improve your stats so you improve your stats.
.
in summary.
persona 5 - protagonist starts with 0 (zero) stats because society told him that he’s nothing more than criminal scum which heavily affected his cognition of himself, leading to akiren believing that his stats actually ARE at 0 even though theyre not
persona 3 - protagonist starts with 0 (zero) stats not for lack of trying, but because minato arisato literally did not care about life or death and only gained stats as he overcame his apathy
persona 4 - protagonist starts with 0 (zero) stats because yuu actually starts closest TO 0 stats and his journey throughout the game is a progression of his own personal growth as he strives to better himself for the sake of his team and friends

Title: Sway Me Smooth
Series: Owari no Seraph
Pairing: Hyakuya Mikaela x Hyakuya Yuuichirou
Rating: M
Summary: Two months after getting fired from The White Leopard, Mika remembers that he left something important behind.
Entice the Eyes after-story drabble.
AO3
The club was empty and devoid of any staff when they walked in one sunny, Saturday morning. All the stools and chairs were turned upside down and hanging on the tables, the bars cleared of all its liquors, and the security cameras deftly turned away from the stage and towards the walls they were mounted on.
With no one else inside the building, the club felt a lot larger than Yuuichirou's initial impression from two months ago, though it seemed as if a lifetime had passed since then.
Regardless, he shook his head and leaned against a table, crossing his arms while he watched his boyfriend wandering in and out around the cashier and dressing room, a worried look etched on his handsome face.
Yuu sighed, scratching the back of his head. "I still can't believe you only just remembered that you'd left behind the scarf that Akane made for you, and in here of all places. What kind of person forgets something that important?"
Mikaela blushed for the hundredth time since they made the trek from the orphanage to Roppongi, his voice defensive as he replied back. "Oh be quiet! You of all people know that there was a lot going on while I worked here, and besides, it's not like I meant to lose it on purpose!"
The other boy sighed, shaking his head as he moved away from the table to help the blond look around, biting his lip in apprehension when he realized that he didn't even know where in the world to start in this weird-looking, suspicious as fuck, strip club. Even if there wasn't anybody here besides the two of them at that moment, the uneasy feeling he got from this place didn't abate at all, and if anything, made him all the more keen on staying on his guard.
His head was filled with all sorts of possibilities, from yakuza members suddenly storming this place with hand guns pointed at them, to secret cameras that may be pointed at their direction, watching their every move. Mika would probably say he was way too over-imaginative to picture something so dangerous and out of the realm of reality, but if these walls could talk, man oh man, the treasure strove of shady shit would be off the hook.
"How the hell were you even able to get us in here just like that, anyway?" Yuuichirou commented a tad bit too loudly, disguising his effort to keep distracted from getting antsy. "Did your boss give you a key and you just forgot to give that back too?"
Mikaela rolled his eyes, feeling sour at Yuu's insinuation of his uncharacteristic forgetfulness, whilst opening a chest of various accessories, used mainly for when the club had a themed night. "I told you, the lock on the back entrance is loose, and it's never been fixed. If you turned it just right, it could be opened easily."
Yuu scoffed, rummaging through a bunch of drawers lined against the walls outside the dressing rooms. "Oh wow. So this place can afford that big lug who welcomed me here the first time, but they can't afford the maintenance? Sketchy and cheap, what a combination. Hmph."
"You really don't give this place enough credit, huh?" Mika asked rhetorically, shaking his head as he directed a smile towards the other man. "Besides, even if someone else did manage to get in here without a key, they wouldn't find anything valuable. The vintage alcohol are in a safe in the kitchen, and the money is never kept here."
"It doesn't change the fact that this place gives me the creeps."
"How many times do I have to tell you, this club is not nearly as strange as you make it out to be. You're just...well, not paranoid, but you're getting there," the blond finished with a chuckle, ignoring Yuu's indignant protests, murmuring something to himself before he let out a loud sigh of frustration, his hands on his hips. "I don't know where else to look."
"They could have thrown it out, or maybe one of the other dancers already took it," he suggested, crossing his arms, a frown settling on his expression. "It's been two months, Mika. Why in the world would they keep a worn out scarf? Did anybody see you with it?"
"Not off the top of my head, no..." Mika mumbled to himself, leaning against the wall as he brought a hand to his chin, contemplating as to where else they could look. He really loved that scarf, dammit. Akane worked very hard on knitting it for him before his birthday three years ago, and he'd known right away that she had spent all night working on it, as she had fallen asleep in her class the following day.
It might be worn and not much to look at in anyone else's eyes, but his adorable adopted sister made that for him, and dammit it all if he didn't have the energy to turn this club right side up looking for it.
A light bulb went off inside his head after a moment, and Mikaela let out a loud gasp, pounding a fist against the inside of his other hand. "Oh! It might be in the Lost and Found box outside the kitchen!"
"Well, if you're gonna look there, hurry up before we get caught," Yuu said with a stern voice, his eyes narrowing. "Regardless of what you say, I'm pretty sure we're still not supposed to be in here."
"And you're worrying too much, as always," Mikaela called out from behind him, waving him off. "It's morning right now, and the club won't open until the afternoon, so there's no way we'd get caught. Now wait here for me!"
He turned and disappeared down a narrow hallway, his footsteps echoing.
Yuuichirou was left to his own devices and he let out a sigh of impatience, his eyes roaming around the empty tables and closed windows. The silence echoed in his ear while he faintly heard Mika combing through something, the loud shuffle of various items being shoved about, enough to keep him focused for the time being.
Without the throngs of people here, the club looked even more luxurious, almost as if it were out of reach.
He moved near one of the bars, taking note of the empty shelves, running his hands along the counter, trying his best to keep himself preoccupied while he waited for the blond to finish his search. When he looked up, his eyes couldn't help but be drawn to the center stage of the club, the long catwalk seemingly intimidating, the stripping poles gleaming with polish.
He remembered that stage well, seared its image into his memory when he'd seen Mika dance for the first time that day, his body lithe and beautiful against the backdrop of the erotic ambience the stage had created. Toned muscles, a slim stomach, the devilish smile on Mika's face...not a detail was left to the vagueness of his mind.
Without thinking, Yuu moved away from the bar and towards the steps leading to the raised platform, each step he took resounding loudly. Unconsciously licking his lips, he ran his fingers along one of the metal poles, looking out from the stage with a thoughtful gleam in his eyes, his mouth forming a small grin when he mentally chanced upon a flash of revelation: so this is what Mika saw when he had danced here.
His gaze drifted to the table where the blond had discovered him by accident while he'd been performing, a bashful expression making his face look charming and boyish to anyone who would have seen him right then and there.
Lost as he was in reminiscence, he didn't notice the other man walking back in, scarf in hand.
"I found it, Yuu-chan! It looks worse for wear, but my scarf is—" Mika's comment stopped short when he discovered his best friend looking out the stage, a shy smile plastered on his face that for a moment, he could only stare in confusion, until he followed the other boy's gaze, his eyes widening with realization.
'Oh...I see.'
Thinking about it now, this is the first time he's been here, since he gave him that lap dance from the last time, Mika thought fondly, folding the scarf neatly and stuffing it in his bag. While he wouldn't necessarily say he missed working at The White Leopard, he won't deny to himself that for at least a short time, he did have fun dancing and performing here. He had genuinely liked the attention, and honestly, the pay had been good.
He shook his head, before he set the backpack down on the floor, making his way up on the stage.
Wordlessly, he moved behind Yuuichirou and snaked his arms around his waist, pulling him close to his chest. Startled, Yuu let out a loud gasp, his shoulders flinching when he turned around to see Mika snuggling against, him, his chin on his shoulder.
"What are you doing?" Yuuichirou stuttered, somewhat embarrassed to have been caught on the stage looking so damn out of it. "Did you find your scarf?"
Mika nodded with a lewd smile on his face, saying nothing else, letting his hand trail down Yuu's waist, eventually making his way underneath the other man's shirt, running his fingertips against his partner's flat stomach. "What were you thinking about?"
"I wasn't thinking about anything. What made you ask that?"
The blond chuckled, before reaching out a hand to grab the pole as well, his voice whispering playfully close to Yuu's ear the next time he spoke. "Nothing really, just that you looked like you were remembering something interesting."
"Hmph. Is that what you'd call it?" Yuuichirou was blushing from the tips of his ears now, the healthy scarlet color spreading across his cheeks as Mika nudged him by the hip, letting out another drawled out sigh, provoking him somehow.
Yuu gulped, suddenly feeling hot. He made a move to pull away from the pole, but Mika only tightened his grip, making him all the more flustered. "Come on, Mika...quit it. We need to get going, or else someone might see us."
"Such a worrier...my boyfriend is going to go gray early because he worries too much," the blond chided him humorously, before lightly grinding their hips together, biting his bottom lip seductively. "Besides, we should have some fun before we go, for old times' sake."
"'Old times' sake'? It was only two months ago that you were strutting your ass on here!"
"Exactly my point," Mika agreed with him readily enough, before thrusting his hips forward once more, rubbing his crotch against Yuu's backside, the smile on his lips utterly mischievous. "Don't you want me to teach you how I learned to move like that? Aren't you the least bit curious...?"
"Not really," Yuuichirou answered, his denial sounding outlandishly weak, his hand tightening on the pole, light traces of moisture evident on the metal.
"I beg to differ," the other man murmured, pulling his hand away from the metal bar and pulling Yuu  close, his voice sultry and commanding as he begun to instruct him, his lips drifting down the nape of his neck. "Now both hands on the pole and follow my lead."
Rather than actually wait for Yuu to obey his directions however, Mikaela took the initiative and grabbed his other hand, placing it on the pole so that the former had no choice but to hold onto it, while the blond leaned against him, lining their bodies together so that when he moved, Yuuichirou had no choice but to follow suit. Planting his feet firmly on the ground, Mika began to move his body, his hips swaying, swinging slowly back and forth, encouraging the other boy to do the same.
"Mika...this is embarrassing," Yuu murmured in panic, his grip tightening even further at the obscene display coming from his friend. "I'm too much of a wreck right now to dance...!"
"That's why you should loosen up," the blond replied simply in return, his fingers slipping underneath Yuu's shirt gliding his palms against his slim chest, his fingers hovering over the band of his briefs that were barely peaking through beneath his jeans. "What other way to do that than just relaxing and doing as I say?"
"You're—unbelievable...!"
"I know, the Great Mikaela is just so amazing, isn't he?"
It was all too much really, the way Mika moved his body like that, without a single care in the world, everything else forgotten but the two of them, alone on the center stage of the empty club. Yuuichirou should have known that the blond would actually try to pull off something like this; his best friend was much too confident for his own good and shameless at that.
How many times has he caught him dancing in their room lately without anyone noticing, Yuu wondered, that he would often just stand there, out of sight, admiring the other man's perfectly chiseled body.
Mika may have been fired from his short gig as a strip dancer, but by no means had he forgotten what he'd learned during his time here.
"Loosen up, just humor me for a little while," Mika encouraged in his ear, his voice dropping to a lower octave. "If you just let yourself go, you'll see that this isn't really all that bad."
And without warning, he begun to hum low in his throat, quietly, soothingly, recreating the melody of one of the songs that had played that fateful (or perhaps it was more apt to say coincidental) night. His hands resumed what they were doing, caressing Yuu's skin with abandon, the pads of his fingers brushing lightly against his hardened nipples, making the latter shiver with pleasure.
Yuuichirou moaned, fighting the urge from throwing his head back as Mikaela breathed heavily in his ear, heartily pressing him on, whispering sweet nonsense to him seductively. His best friend has always been damn good when it came to foreplay, always knowing just which buttons to press to make Yuu lose himself, and now was one of them.
Aroused as he was, his own hips had begun to move of their own accord, grinding his bottom against the area between the blond's thighs, his hold on the pole ever tighter, his back slightly arched so that he could stimulate more friction between them, his lips glistening with moisture and quivering with the need to be kissed.
Turning his head so that he faced him, Yuu puckered his lips lightly, inviting his the blond to make out. Just as Mika was about to lean forward though, his hands drifted to Yuu's crotch, letting out a loud gasp when he felt the warm bulge, his best friend's response to him more than generous and encouraging.
Letting out a flattered chuckle, Mikaela captured his friend's lips with his own, slowly at first, before deepening their kiss as Yuu began to move against him more forcefully.
The sound of their mouths meshing together was all that could be heard for a moment, their breaths mingling, the heady buzz of lusty stimulation filling the air.
It wasn't until Mikaela pressed his palm against Yuu's hardened length through his pants, his fingers curling around him that his boyfriend's shoulders jumped, his lips pulling away in shock, still swollen and cherry red.
"Oh, fuck...!" Yuu cursed viciously, his body tense once more while he abruptly leaned his forehead against his hands, indignant as he came to his senses, his blush reaching the roots of his hair. "Dammit, Mika...! How the hell am I supposed to go outside now with an obvious hard on?!"
"I don't see anything wrong with it," the blond replied contentedly, leaning his chin against Yuu's shoulder, a bright smile on his face. "It's just so easy to turn you on, you know that?"
"Oh shut the hell up and be serious!" Yuu yelled out loud with exasperation, but made no move to pull away from him. "Now what are we gonna do?! Is there a bathroom here somewhere? Get off me, I'll take care of this myself."
"Uh uh, that won't do at all," Mika fired back at him petulantly, his mouth suddenly set in a firm pout, before his eyes became bright with an idea, so cheerful that Yuu could have sworn he saw the lightbulb hovering over the blond's head. "Well...we could do one thing."
"Umm, how about no. We're not doing it here in this creepy club, I'd rather just go to the bathroom and...deal with this...on my own."
"No, no, no. Out of the question, I want in on the party in your pants."
Yuuichirou smacked his forehead in astonishment, his teeth gritting at the way Mikaela said the words so damn casually, awed that the blond was just so utterly fearless, not giving a single shit to anyone who would have heard him, regardless of whether or not anyone was with them in the club at that moment. "I can't believe you just said that with a straight face...!"
"Oh shut up. At least I can readily admit that I'm horny too!"
"Aww, geez...!"
"Quiet!" Mika demanded somewhat patronizingly, before he pulled Yuu close to him once more, dragging his lips across Yuu's cheeks, to the shell of his ear. "Now hear me out. There's a nice love hotel about a block from here. Why don't we go there?"
"A love hotel?! Mika, who the hell checks into a love hotel so early in the morning?!"
"Well, you're looking at us right now. Isn't that enough of an answer?"
"Dammit, why are you always so sarcastic?" Yuu mumbled with childish annoyance, entirely worn out, although he had to admit to himself that he wasn't entirely against the idea of going to a love hotel to get some alone time with his boyfriend.
It was just awkward, is all.
"Yuu-chan, make up your mind. Either we go to the bathroom together, where there's hardly any room, or we go the love hotel, where we'll be comfortable, at least. Your choice."
And when the blond made it sound like that, it just made things ten times more awkward as hell. It amazed him most of the time how the hell Mika could just be so damn stubborn.
Yuuichirou's shoulders slumped, his blush having yet to abate when he finally gave in, refusing to admit to himself that he was kinda glad—more than glad—for the invitation. "Fine, let's go to the hotel. We'll split the bill."
Mikaela's smile instantly returned, clapping his hands once before he ran to grab his backpack, returning to Yuu's side where he gave him a light kiss, murmuring against his lips. "Besides, we're not done yet. I want to dance with you some more."
Scratch that. His best friend was utterly stubborn and greedy. What a surprise, Yuuichirou thought fondly to himself as he clasped the blond's hand while letting him lead the way, that the Great Mikaela's confidence just oozed out of him.
He really couldn't have expected anything less.

My Top 5 Favorite Anime Characters
Tagged by my darling @waddledeeart!
Hello class, today I will be providing an essay for 4 of the 5 characters we shall be looking at today. Many of my favorite characters in anime are those who I personally resonate with, and those that have taught me something about myself. Two of these characters have really shaped how I view my life, and all of them have asked something of me that has challenged my attitude.
So here they are in no particular order.
1. Khamsin Nbhw (Shakugan No Shana)
Tumblr media
While he didn’t have a lot of screen time considering how long the series was, Khamsin was a real standout among a cast of likable characters in my favorite anime of all time. He comes off as grumpy, distant, and blunter than the rocks he shatters to use his powers, but under all of that is a person who has truly become wise over the centuries he has existed. He knows that life is fleeting, even if it is less so for him, and serves as a guide and foil to the protagonists’ secondary love interest. While his backstory was only briefly touched upon, the moral that it shared is something that will stick with me for the rest of my life. Your love for someone is not valid justification for your actions, or theirs. I hear all the time “but I love them” and “I don’t want to hurt them” being tossed around as excuses not to confront real issues with the people that they care about. While Khamsin’s case was a lot more cataclysmic of a situation than ours, the moral still rings true. I have known many people in abusive relationships, I was in a very neglectful one myself, and they often justify staying by saying “but I love them” as if that fixes everything. It doesn’t, and it never will.
2. Yuu / Strength (Black Rock Shooter)
Tumblr media
I’m going to be talking about Yuu and Strength, because I feel like they both count since they are connected and acknowledged as the same person. Not only is the twist behind their character really cool, but it is something that I can relate to on a personal level. Yuu, the human in our world, trades places with her counterpart because she feels like it is easier to battle to the death with glorified imaginary friends than it is to accept the pain she faces in the real world. Escapism is a problem that plagues millions of people, especially people who sink their lives into video games, anime, etc. The idea that reality is too painful to bear is something that has come up multiple times throughout my life. I have always used fiction to protect myself from the real world, to have hope in something more ideal or fascinating. I had a baby cousin that was still born, it was even more tragic because she was the first girl born in our family for several generations. It hurt. It hurt to my very core and rattled me like few other things have. I dove deeper and deeper into reading, gaming, and binging anime, to the point where I didn’t talk to my oldest brother or my father for weeks on end. It wasn’t until I got addicted to League of Legends that I saw how bad my problem was. I was leaving several friends hanging out to dry, not lending an ear because I didn’t want to feel emotional pain. I even started using physical pain to cover up my emotional pain. I often punched my legs or bit my cheek when I felt sad or angry, because I didn’t want to have to deal with an ugly side of me. Yuu and Strength’s dynamic helped me see that I could not keep doing this to myself, and that I needed to allow others to help and that by helping others I could find hope and relief.
3. Simon (Gurren Lagann)
Tumblr media
Gurren Lagann has been a long time favorite of mine. It’s a big mess of crazy fun and over the top adventure. There was a lot of serious themes mixed into the wacky and wonky romps that quickly descended into a more intense plot in the second season. It is hard to talk about Simon without talking about Kamina first. I was one of the few people who didn’t like Kamina the instant I saw him. A loud, obnoxious, impulsive, crazed lunatic with an inclination towards violence. I saw the merit in him though, but I knew Simon was the protagonist. The episode Kamina died is the same episode where everything for this anime clicked for me. While Kamina is the one who encouraged Simon to “do the impossible” and “grit his teeth,” Simon’s application of it and his struggle along the way is what makes me love him as a character. Simon doesn’t understand everything after Kamina dies. He has a damn near identity crisis as he tries to be more like his role model than he is himself. And it didn’t work. Watching Simon struggle to accept who he is, his own way of doing things, while also learning from the man that shaped his life is something I can respect immensely. The drill in Gurren Lagann symbolizes the ability to move forward, the ability to advance a little further with every turn. Life is full of twists and turns, but the only way to live is to face forwards. “Don’t believe in yourself, or the me that believes in you, believe in the you that believes in yourself.” It’s a rather nonsensical quote from Kamina, but here’s what I think it means based on watching Simon grow into his own man. “Don’t believe in who you are now, or any other person, because the only one who will always be there for you is yourself, believe in the vision of what you want to become. Be better. Move forward.”
4. Kousei Arima (Your Lie in April)
Tumblr media
I can’t say much about Kousei Arima right now. I’m currently rewatching it with @waddledeeart, and it’s her first time watching it so I don’t want to spoil too much. They say when you’re in love, the whole world turns into colors. In my last experience, it slowly grew muddier and muddier, and I felt stuck. I felt stuck in my monochrome world, alone with my escapism and my excuses not to socialize. Thanks to some good friends, I got off my ass and started legitimately bonding with people for the first time in a long time. And right now I’m glad to say my world is colored beautiful shades of orange sunrises, lavender clouds that look like cotton candy, and navy blue skies at night. I am very much in love with my darling.
5. Slaine Troyard (Aldnoah.Zero)
Tumblr media
Slaine Troyard is a good character that was held back by the rest of the show and his foil in the protagonist. Aldnoah.Zero was a really sub-par anime in my opinion, and Saline was one of the few things that made me think this anime could be great. As an antagonist, we get to see how he mirrors the struggles of someone who should really be the protagonist. He has a lot of conflicting emotions, he has to balance his feelings with the position that he has given. Everything he earned in the story he earned through his own grit and drive. The flaw that we see is that he has an inability to see past his own faults and has a tendency to over react. When he truly feels like giving up hope, that’s exactly what he does. While he wasn’t a noble person, and he did a lot of selfish things, his motivation is what held my interest. One of his last quotes is when his mech’s foresight function gets damaged and he looses his best asset and chance at winning against the main character: “I no longer require a future.” Watching somebody give up, and feel the desire to punish themselves for their own mistakes, that is a feeling that really tugged at me for a while. In the end, he fails to better himself, because he’d rather just take on punishments that he himself mandates. For a long time I punished myself for every screw up that I thought I got away with, because I felt that I deserved it and that it was some form of justice. Slaine’s fall into hopelessness showed me that punishing yourself is counterproductive to bettering yourself. While he’s definitely my least favorite out of these five, he still taught me a very important lesson.
OH GEEZ I HOPE YOU READ THAT ALL! That was a trip and a half for me, but I hope you guys got a better idea of who I am and what things I value. It was some good fun!
Now it’s time for me to tag other people: @little-evolved-one @yuureis-truly @askthesevensouls

evergreen (G; for the middle blocker kindaichi yuutarou)
my piece for the middle blocker zine, which i only bothered to post now because i completely forgot that my blog is my portfolio. i received my copy of the book recently. thanks to everyone who made it possible! it’s absolutely gorgeous!!
rest of the fic under the cut. it’s...a bit of a read.
The plant is a young purple shamrock, for now nothing but clumps of tiny triangular leaves sprouting out from the soil in an overly-large pot.
It’s a present to Yuutarou for his thirteenth birthday, and though it’s not exactly on his wish list, he takes and looks at it as though it’s the vast, fragile universe—and it is, in its own special way, he figures. It’s a life smaller than he’ll ever be. He now holds its existence like he holds his food or homework or volleyball, and for a boy without much of a concept of what life is beyond these things, it feels incredible.
His mother names the flower with a bright grin on her face. “I got it for you because it’s one of the easiest plants to keep at home,” she tells him, “but the woman who sold it to me said it’s magical.”
Yuutarou raises an eyebrow.
“No, it’s true! It’s a magical shamrock that’ll watch over you, and everything you do. Take care of it well enough and it might just have something to say about your luck and successes.” She winks.
He knows better than to believe her; he’s not a baby, and he’s not about to get manipulated into poring over a bunch of leaves under the impression that it’ll give him a better life. He does thank her for the thoughtful present, though, listens to her drone on about how to keep it alive and promises to try his best with it as he takes it to his room and places it on his desk. Not a bad spot, he thinks, and makes a mental note to water it for the first time. Maybe later.
The plant is doing fairly well, from the looks of it.
It’s like owning a pet, having a plant under his wing, only not as cute and cuddly. It’s more of a new, relatively simple chore he carries out without the need to get nagged. It’s nothing special, nothing remotely interesting, so when his friends find out on the first day they come over, it’s anything but momentous.
"Wait, your mom said it was magic?" Kunimi asks once he finishes relaying the story, now months old.
"Yeah. I guess she was just trying to find a way to get me to give it lots of attention. Dunno why she bothered; it’s not really that needy." Yuutarou shrugs.
Kageyama stares at it with more wonder in his eyes than Yuutarou had when he’d received it. "You should take care of it, magical or not," he says, gingerly touching the tips of the flourishing dark purple leaves. "It’s pretty big, having to keep something alive like this."
"I know. I will," Yuutarou assures him, and relishes in his small smile and nod—not a sliver of doubt in the back of his mind, though there should be, about how well both he and Kageyama’ll be able to keep the important things alive as the years go by.
The plant is generally satisfied, and gradually gains more color, the pinkish white of flowers beautiful amidst the purple.
He doesn’t become a popular guy by any means. He’s easily the tallest kid in the volleyball club but his attacks don’t make the crowd go wild, and they never defeat Shiratorizawa. He’s pretty good at English and Science but his Math teacher always tells him he should do better. He’s welcoming and conversational but his circle of friends is small, his confidence and complete trust concentrated only on two in the bunch.
He wishes for more, as anyone would, and sometimes he finds himself looking at his plant (which beams along with him at every compliment Mom gives), thinking of the magic, but he instantly feels ridiculous, knows that wishes are for people who don’t know how to take action.
So he tries to stay content instead, and like this—with his friends’ bravery and Mom’s cooking and Dad’s advice—the years fly on by.
The plant was fine yesterday. It was.
In their third year, unexpectedly and out of nowhere, Kageyama gets mad at him.
"What the hell? That sucked," he says, eyebrows already knitted, after Yuutarou spikes one of his tosses and lands it out of bounds. "Did you slack off over break or something?"
"Huh?" Yuutarou blinks at him. It’s three thirty and barely anyone on the court has jumped, let alone found a reason to get frustrated. "No? I—we both just miscalculate sometimes, or do something wrong without meaning to. It happens.”
"Try again,” Kageyama instructs, or maybe orders, but Yuutarou doesn’t want to think of it like that. “And make it score this time.”
"I will, I swear."
The image of the calm, collected Kageyama’s deepest scowl to date unwarrantedly plasters itself onto the forefront of Yuutarou’s memory, stays there all the way home. Maybe it was a bad day, he thinks, tells himself that everyone has the right to lose their cool when things don’t go their way—and right at that moment loses his own when he sees his plant sagging.
It isn’t even that bad; the flower stems are only a little bent and the leaves a little wrinkled, but his breath hitches and he drops everything and sprints downstairs so urgently that Mom has to sprint back up with him to make sure he doesn’t trip on his own feet and die trying to bring a plant back to life.
"It’s not the end of the world, Yuu," she tells him, caressing his back as he attempts to rejuvenate his charge. “These types of plants can look under the weather when the temperature isn’t quite right. It happens."
He drinks her words in the way he wishes the plant drinks the water, feels himself cooling down in its place. A little too cool perhaps, when he stares at the moist leaves and sees a poorly-spiked ball and glaring blue eyes and realizes that it isn’t hot at all, but he shuts his eyes, listens to the soft echoes in his mind:
“It happens.”
The plant is healthy again. It just needed a little water.
A 500-yen coin greets him on the floor of the hallway the next day and he picks it up, turns it in his fingers, stares at it for long enough that a still-sleepy Kunimi somehow finds time to join him.
“Find that on the floor?” he asks. “Keep it. Looking around for the owner and the Lost and Found are too much work.”
“Is that really okay?”
“Think of it as a reward for all the effort you’ve been putting into Math lately.”
Yuutarou, unable to argue with the logic and his desire for a reward, pockets the money.
Right before lunch, they’re handed back their tests, Yuutarou’s sporting a high 95 circled in red right beside his name. He grins from ear to ear when he sees it, offers the paper to those who ask to see, and practically brandishes the thing in Kunimi’s face when they meet up to eat.
Kunimi smiles in earnest, says, "Looks like today’s a good day for you," and it’s the best thing Yuutarou has ever seen.
At practice, he runs faster and jumps higher than ever before. His teammates clap him on the back, tell him he’s doing good today, and he makes conversation about Nationals because it feels right. His grin is almost permanent on his face, until a serve hits Kageyama’s and all hell breaks loose, the livid setter grabbing a trembling wing spiker, several inches taller, by the shirt.
"You have the nerve to talk about Nationals," Kageyama demands, above the litany of apologies, "with a serve like that?"
"Kageyama, calm down!" Yuutarou cries as others yank Kageyama’s hands away. "It was an accident, okay? He said he’s sorry."
"That’s not the point!"
"We’re going to get better," Yuutarou continues. "That’s why we’re here at practice. To improve. Better to make all the mistakes here and correct them so we don’t repeat them when it matters."
It comes out of nowhere, but it works. Kageyama pauses, his balled fists relax, and he averts his gaze, clicks his tongue and mutters an apology before turning away. Yuutarou supposes it’s good enough, but his stomach twists in not-so-subtle knots when their captain sets a hand on his shoulder and tells him he did well, and the rest of practice feels like floating on air.
When he gets home that evening, his shamrock is thriving. He isn’t sure why that scares him, ever so slightly.
The plant is fluctuating from bright and beautiful to complete garbage.
"You don’t think it’s actually magical, do you?"
They eye the plant on the desk, still and harmless, like it’s a monster on top of Yuutarou’s desk.
"What makes you think it could be?" Kunimi asks.
"Whenever something good happens to me, I get home home and see it perfectly fine. But whenever something bad happens, it looks dry and sad,” Yuutarou explains. “I can’t figure out if it reacts to what happens to me or if my day is determined by how it’s feeling."
"That’s dumb," Kageyama says immediately, like Yuutarou hadn’t just finished honestly speaking his mind. "There’s no way a plant can be magic. You probably just pay more attention to it on your good days and end up neglecting it on your bad ones so it reacts to how you treat it. Simple enough."
Yuutarou frowns. "These types of plants don’t need to be watered all the time. They’re really easy to keep alive."
"Then why’s yours dying every other day?"
"It’s not dying!"
"Why are you yelling?"
"Because—" Yuutarou yells until he realizes he is, and he pinches his mouth shut, because arguing is too much work. He exchanges glances with Kunimi instead, thinks maybe they won’t be inviting Kageyama over next time.
He sees the both of them out half an hour later, silently eats his dinner and washes up, and when he once again steps inside his bedroom, his shamrock’s flowers and leaves are falling.
The internet is packed with good reads on effective plant care, he finds, and he stays up after doing his homework to go through them. At practice, he messes up the timing for the block and brings the other team to match point. He hears his teammates sigh.
I’m a terrible blocker, he thinks, and he doesn’t look them in the eye for the rest of the day.
Online sources are limited and inconsistent, he decides, so sometimes he spends his breaks in the library, reading up on plants and how they work, the effects of temperature on their consistency and growth, the effects of anything at all to their resilience. In the hall, two sprinting boys knock him aside in their haste, and he apologizes to their retreating backs.
I’m such a pushover, he thinks, and in class he shrinks in his seat.
Science tells him nothing, so he scours for reliable material on the unexplainable, because that’s what his plant is. It follows no rules, it’s unpredictable, and it’s ruining his life. If he can’t control the magic, he cries in his mind, he can’t control his life.
"Yuu, it’s getting really late. You can do that tomorrow. Go to bed," says the person who brought this magic to him, standing by his doorway minutes before midnight. "If you don’t sleep early, you’re not gonna reach six feet."
Yuutarou has nothing to say to that; he buries his face in his book.
"Yuu. Can you hear me?"
He frowns.
Mom does too. "Okay, well, if you feel like talking tomorrow, I’ll be here. Get some rest, okay?"
She closes the door as quietly as she can, and the click of the lock shatters Yuutarou’s cold facade as well as his heart. I’m an awful son, he thinks, and he doesn’t know what to do with himself.
At practice, Kageyama’s mood only plunges, and Yuutarou doesn’t know what to do with him either. He sends tosses that are too fast and complains when no one can get them. He talks about getting faster, where’s the improvement, we have to win, we have to win—until the we’s become I’s, what used to be fun and challenging now a mere test of strength against what’s apparently a beast, a monster.
Yuutarou’s patience plunges too. No matter what, he thinks, I’ll never be worse than this guy. And he feels better about himself.
The plant has recovered.
Everything on the court gets worse the louder Kageyama yells, and when tournaments roll around, he’s the only thing Yuutarou’s sure he can block out. He hates that he has to; he still tries to treat Kageyama the same as before, but the minute he hears that sharp voice demanding he move faster jump higher match my pace, he cracks just a little bit more, and he’s well past breaking point.
He has been for a long time; he’s known that since he and Kunimi first spoke privately with their coach.
Their final match of the year, as a team, is no different. He tries and he tries but there’s nothing he can do about the monstrous toss. His jumps are futile, his words don’t go through. The time-outs don’t clear any of their heads. Kageyama never listens, never slows, and Yuutarou’s tired of moving too slow for him.
So he doesn’t move at all.
He stops in his tracks, keeps his eyes on Kageyama’s focused ones and watches them change—wide in anticipation, wider in surprise, even wider in confusion—as the alarmingly-fast ball rises and falls for the last time. Kageyama is benched, and the glare he used to direct at Yuutarou and the rest disappears under the shadow of his fringe, and that’s the last that Yuutarou needs to know about that.
They lose, of course. But the defeated look on Kageyama’s face convinces Yuutarou he’s won something. He feels stronger as he heads home, like he’s conquered a heavy weight on his shoulders, like he’s done something right for the first time in his life. The night sky is dark but it’s as though the clouds are making way for a bright sun overhead, one that tells of a future where nothing will ever make him feel so small again.
He heads up to his room in high spirits, but in the moment he opens his door he also reels back, drops all of his things, and tries to blink himself out of what he hopes is a cruel dream.
The plant is dead.
“It had to be a pest or something,” Mom says. “I can’t imagine how else this could have happened.”
The once-beautiful leaves of his shamrock are curled in on themselves, shrunken and weak, holes drilled into them like they’d been set ablaze. It makes Yuutarou feel sick but he can’t tear his eyes away, only blinks the wetness out of them as his chest grows heavy and his stomach sinks.
"We’ll do a little more research on this, okay? I remember reading that these kinds of plants can resurrect, or something like that. Maybe it still has a chance."
"Please throw it out."
Mom seems to stop breathing. "What?"
Yuutarou sucks in all the air he can find. "Let’s just throw it out."
"Ah—but—" She pauses, then gently rubs his shoulders. They’re higher than hers already. "Okay. Okay. Let’s just get a new one, yeah?"
"No."
"No? You don’t want to replace it?"
"I don’t."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
He feels her gaze on him, piercing and studious, but she doesn’t say anything he doesn’t want to hear. She sighs, takes the pot, and moves to head out the door. "I’ll bring this to the yard for you, all right? Dinner’ll be ready soon. Oh! And how was your game?"
The question sets his skin on fire, punctures his heart like it’s a dying purple leaf. "We lost," he mumbles, turning away. "We lost."
The plant has been buried underground for quite some time.
“Okay, Kindaichi, your turn!”
He steps to the front of the line and grabs a ball from the cart, tries to calm himself down even in the face of Oikawa’s toothy grin. It isn’t Yuutarou’s first time hitting his sets but the nerves never leave, and every run-up for a spike is like the moment of truth, make or break, match point.
He knows it shouldn’t be, and it makes a difference, but when he runs and swings and ultimately misses, he still clams up, turns to Oikawa with a barrage of excuses and apologies ready to leave his mouth, and the only thing that stops him is Oikawa’s still-smiling face.
"Your timing’s a little slow, huh?" he says. "Think you can go a little faster than that?"
The word ‘slow’ makes him want to shrink. But he looks at Oikawa’s patient gaze and reminds himself this isn’t middle school anymore. This isn’t Kageyama anymore, and Yuutarou is six feet tall, has a voice he’s used only a few times before, a voice that might as well wilt and die with his shamrock if he doesn’t ever use it again.
"Maybe," he says, but before Oikawa can beam too much, nervously adds, "but right now, can I not?”
Oikawa’s smile vanishes for the first time, and Yuutarou has to conceal his cringe for the better part of a minute before it comes back, wider than ever. "Well. I appreciate your being straightforward," he says, clapping a hand on Yuutarou’s shoulder, and Yuutarou has to work on controlling his gape instead. "I’ll accept that answer for now. Practice with me so I can get your timing right, okay?"
The yes that escapes from Yuutarou’s smiling lips is as loud as it is elated.
The plant is doing wonders for the garden soil it’s buried in.
Somehow he finds himself standing in front of Kageyama again one day, his own team fresh from a loss in their practice match. It’s odd to see him clad in black, but that’s the least of Yuutarou’s problems, now that the King of the Court stands before him wearing a different kind of crown.
He hadn’t come up with that nickname but he’d embraced it all the same, and when he’d heard that Kageyama’s school was coming over, he’d been intrigued rather than enraged. It would make for good entertainment, he figured, getting to watch Kageyama yelling at people he isn’t required to care about, and a good way to know for sure that where he is and where Kageyama is truly are meant to be different.
But that’s not what he sees, and ultimately, he ends up here, yelling at Kageyama and not the other way around, because Kageyama is different—from his faces on the court all the way up to the lightning-quick toss he now manages to score with. It has Yuutarou’s fists trembling as he screams, "Don’t apologize!" in front of a bashful King’s face, and he honestly can’t believe he has to.
What other things come out of his mouth, he doesn’t remember. They might be a little cruel, a little untrue, a little overconfident of him, but it helps him hold his head up high, and look Kageyama straight in the eye as he nods in agreement with everything Yuutarou had gotten off his chest, and says:
“Next time we fight, we’re going to win again.”
The we is a shot right through the heart. The way Kageyama leaves with his new partner is a dagger to his back. But as he looks to the ceiling, despite the feeling of defeat, he can neither help his smile nor understand why. He retreats to his own team with Kunimi, thinks about how Kageyama has changed, and how he isn’t the only one who has.
The plant is a dwarf lemon cypress, a fair height and vibrant green, and it’s been growing in a pot inside one of the second story bedrooms for the better part of a year now.
He finds it after another devastating loss to Shiratorizawa, and the first thing he thinks is it’s so beautiful. His eyes are still a little puffy from the tears but he stares at the bright leaves all shaped like miniature trees, gently runs his fingers through them, feels his heart swell.
“Oh, you found it.”
Mom stands by the doorway, leaning against the frame and smiling at him. Yuutarou shouldn’t be surprised—it’s her room, after all—but his mouth can’t make words and his eyes are wide, only able to stare at her.
“Purple was pretty, but also pretty depressing, so I figured you could use something green this time. The color of life, environment, renewal, and growth,” she says, like that stare had demanded an explanation. “And I thought it might be nice to get something taller, so you can get taller and tower over everyone on the court.”
The smile on her lips and in her eyes is so warm, and Yuutarou sniffles, breathes out a laugh. The first thing he thinks to say is incomprehensible, something he never would have asked three years ago. “So it’s magic too?”
“Hmm. The saleslady didn’t say it was magical this time.” Mom stands beside him and rests a hand between his shoulder blades. “But I’d say that the plants never had the magic from the start. It’s the amount of love and care you give it to keep it alive despite everything that happens in your life, good or bad, that makes it magic. Agree or agree?”
This time, Yuutarou’s laughter finds its voice. “Agree.”
“Do you want to move it to your room and take over now?”
“I’m fine with keeping it here for a while.”
“Okay. But only until you turn twenty; that’s when I’m legally allowed to stop caring about you so much.”
“Aww, make it thirty.”
“Too much! Twenty-one.”
“Twenty-nine! I’ll help you with it anyway.”
Mom’s shoulders shake with her giggling. “Fine,” she says, and Yuutarou leans on the shoulder he used to cry on as a child.
The plant has thrived even more since its discovery, basking in the heat, surviving in the cold.
“Captain Kindaichi sure handled that arrogant first year pretty well earlier, huh?”
Yuutarou snaps to attention and raises an eyebrow at the grinning teammates that surround him. “What?”
“The first year who yelled because our play wasn’t ‘the best we could’ve done’. You pulled him aside during the time-out and talked to him, right? Nice, nice.”
“It wasn’t much,” Yuutarou says, hunching over and pulling ahead of rest of the group leisurely strolling on the lamp-lit sidewalk. “And it’s not entirely new either. Kyoutani-san was like that to the third years back then, and Yahaba-san learned to deal with him, so I should be able to do something like this.”
“Yeah, we know, we’re just complimenting you, dumbass. Where’s our thanks for thinking you’re the best captain we could’ve hoped to have this year?”
“Well, thanks,” Yuutarou deadpans, but he doesn’t walk any faster. “I never asked for compliments, though. A captain’s only as good as his team, anyway; I lead, but we all do our best together. And when I inevitably screw up, you’re all there to pick up the pieces.”
“Or,” Kunimi interjects, sending a slap to his arm, “you could stop being all mature for a second and learn to take a compliment.”
The rabble erupts in a chorus of laughter and haphazardly-thrown punches, and he makes a face at them, glues their grins to his memory, and announces that they’re making a stop at a nearby store for some snacks, captain’s treat. Only for a while though, he emphasizes once the cheering dies down, so he can still get home in time to help Mom with dinner.
The plant has seen bad days and better days, but it grows. And it’ll keep on growing; Yuutarou will make sure of it.

VACATION: THE AIRPORT
Sora likes to take vacations whenever she can. And now that she has a boyfriend, she’s keen to take him with her. But this boyfriend has six brothers, and all six of those brothers have partners. Sora’s private vacation estate is about to get very crowded, but they have to get to their gate first.
@isilmerana / @dcydrcvm
[ This isn’t a formal short story, but rather a bunch of little...scenes? A collection of snippets regarding what a Reaper7 and co vacation might be like ~ ]
Airport security and getting to the right gate with a party fifteen strong isn’t a quick and easy affair. There’s a lot of baggage to check, passports to stamp, tickets to process. Annie is a hasty girl, bolting her way ahead of the group because “I’m not missing the plane, damn it!” and running over Jayce’s foot with her rolling bag. Yeri is jogging behind in an attempt to keep up and throws a quick apology in the direction of his hyung before smiling as he chases after the love of his life.
Woori and Yuu are some feet behind the rest of the group, fingers interlaced because they seem unaffected at the prospect of people knowing they’re together. Woori’s wearing her favorite white floppy hat that makes her already small head look smaller, but Yuu can only smile at her because she’s really to cute to ignore. He’s leaning over to peck her cheek, but Woori is turning her head at the exact same time to speak and so they meet in the middle with an awkward nose bump that illicits laughs from them both before they peck their lips together quickly.
KT and Rose are a only a few steps ahead of them, not holding hands but still standing close. KT rolls his and her bag while Rose opts to hold on to to their carry-ons and Rose is cheerfully rambling about how amazing it is to take a big trip together. “It feels like a big family vacation” she’s saying, and KT nods. That’s exactly what it is in his mind. He has a thought to kiss her, but he pushes it back, not sure if that were the right time. There’s a moment if he wonders if Rose is getting impatient with him, their relationship consisting of little more than hand holding, hugging, and curling up together. Going on vacation, slated to share a room, and not a single kiss. He sighs lightly, Rose asks whats wrong and KT finds himself smiling a little, “I’m just glad you’re not impatient” And when she gives him a perplexed look, he simply looks ahead.
No one really knows the guy Hajoon brought along. It’s someone from Two Star, and Woori recognizes him as a trainee, but that’s the extent of anyone’s knowledge. No one questions or even bats an eye because Hajoon deserves a chance to spend time with someone near to him as much as any of the others. They’re keeping a bit of a distance apart, strategic in their placement. Hajoon walks beside Jayce and holds Sunny’s hand, a toothy grin on his face while the trainee is up walking with Lacey. Hajoon glances forward and catches the trainee’s eye and the younger male’s eyes light up as though he where seeing the epitome of perfection and light. And there’s something of genuine affection in Hajoon’s gaze. Lacey remains her chatty and protective self, chit chatting away with the trainee and turning around every now and then to shout and take a headcount (”We can’t loose anyone!”). Manager mode is hard to shut off, though her heart rests with Jayce and Sunny. And if Jayce had his way, he’d be walking with her, but there’s a silent agreement between the four to protect Hajoon, and at the end of the day, that trumps all for them.
“Everyone looks so happy.” Sora’s taking her sunglasses off her eyes and placing them atop her head. She was rolling her own suitcase at first, but Baekhyun took over, and so she (like Rose) is responsible for their carry ons. There’s glee in her eyes as she looks up at Baekhyun who seems just as happy to see his brothers smiling and paired off with their partners. He sees joy, he sees bliss, he sees love. He sees a new beginning for them all. He sees happily every after.
He sees the girl that’s helped keep KT off that roof, he sees a girl who makes Yuu smile brighter than the sun. He sees a spunky bossy woman who’s got the maknae wrapped around her finger but holds the most genuine and protective affection for him. He sees a manager who cares so hard and loves so much and sees her maternal instincts winning over the affection of their eldest. He sees Hajoon hopeful and at peace (though he’s yelling all of a sudden, “This suitcase is a rare Louis Vuitton, Jayce, they only made five hundred of these. If the luggage carriers scuff it I swear--” “We told you not to bring that one. They’re going to throw it into the plane and it’s going to get crushed by something else.” “No NO. I WILL TALK TO SOMEONE.”)
And he sees Sora. He sees the girl who’s had a hand in saving him, sees the girl he wants to keep by his side. And she’s flipping through the brochure with a little smile on her face, not a single care in the world. Baekhyun is leaning down and saying something into Sora’s ear. She’s only half listening at first, but the words register and she looks at him, mouthing ‘I love you too’
There’s an announcement telling the group to be at their gate in ten minutes. Annie is charging now and Yeri is sprinting to keep up, wondering how his noona got so fast in those wedge heels, and also wondering how much attention she’s drawing to herself. But the announcement kicks everyone else into gear as well, and they’re all soon making a bit of a jog to the gate so this well need vacation can go on.

A lot of authors/artists seem to have a Big Ambitious Project that they haven't managed to get around to yet and maybe never will. Do you have one, and if so, could you tell us something about it? :V
Ooooh! What a good question Yuu, thanks for asking!
I have...well, a number of things, honestly, so I’ll try to say a bit about a few of them.
Novel: First Attempt
The big one is the story that grew from my first attempt at NaNoWriMo. The title for that story was Worlds Entwined (sound familiar? That’s right, I originally started this blog as a place to dump ideas) and when I’d written 50,000 words of it, I was nowhere close to being finished with the story. It had about five main characters, who started out in three different settings and whose stories were eventually supposed to come together. The problem was, I didn’t know how to do all of that and still fit it into one book. So...I decided to split it into three.
Novel Take 2 : The Waif and the Urchin Queen
The second NaNoWriMo attempt involved pulling out one thread from the previous story and trying to flesh it out. After looking at my lineup of protagonists, I decided on the two who meet on a stormy night at sea and end up sailing into a different world (on a flying ship!) Since the original story showed them meeting as children and then skipped ahead to when they’re young adults, I thought it might be nice to write something more focused on their early years together. Which...grew, and got more complicated, and by the time I’d finished the draft (several years, multiple NaNos and Camp NaNos and other months with no official writing challenges later) the story only loosely tied into the larger arc I had planned for the trilogy. I haven’t been able to bring myself to read through it - I know the plot needs major surgery, and it’s very Intimidating.
The basic premise, though, is that a boy who lives on an island and hears the Sea (capital S, as the Sea is sort of...an entity) encounters a shipwrecked girl who has no memory of who she is or where she came from. And then has to convince everyone on the island that she’s not some kind of sea-sprite who will bring ruin on them all. This is made harder because of his own family history and the fact that the girl starts displaying some Odd Behaviors.
I’ve talked about the characters from this on my blog a bit, and posted some art - if you want to know more about them, you can look at the Gair Milos and Citra Spire tags.
(I also, somewhere in there, started writing what would be the second book in the trilogy, despite the fact that I hadn’t finished writing the first book yet. The setting is quite different - a city wrapped in a power struggle between ascetic magic users and wealthy business owners. Both groups are resistant to change and engaged in some...unsavory practices. I’ve actually been thinking about reworking this idea to stand alone, because it might be easier to do that than salvaging the trilogy idea. Only I have to come up with a new name for my magic-via-drawing group, because it turns out my original name for them is taken and I don’t want to get sued.)
Graphic Novel/Comic?
I’ve also thought a lot about doing some kind of webcomic or graphic novel, because I love both of those things and it seems like it’d be a natural thing to get into, what with being both an artist and a writer. I have this idea kicking around called The Scarebird, which is where my OC Aderyn comes from. (I swore I had more art of her on my blog, but maybe I never uploaded a lot of the stuff from my sketchbooks). Basically the main character can communicate with birds (which are, in her world, much more reptilian and also dangerous) and is asked to accompany some other characters on a quest to do Something Important. The Something Important and like...all other plot points...are still nebulous, which is a large part of the reason I haven’t done more with this. Plot is hard, alas.
Anyway, those are the main Big Projects I have haunting me. I really do want to get back on the horse with one of them, but it’s a struggle. (And if anyone has more specific questions about any of them, feel free to ask! I realize I’ve been pretty vague here for the sake of brevity, but I don’t mind talking about these stories if people are interested.)

Anime suggestions?
Asking a 42 year old lifelong anime dork for anime suggestions!?
Tumblr media
Sorry that it’s taken me a little bit to address this.  In the absence of specifics I decided to provide a recommendation of my old favorites as opposed to new releases.  Of course then I realized I could write entire essays on each of my old favorites as a recommendation and started thinking about how to make a post like that.  Then I decided to provide short recommendations for most of the old favorites and save the hard-sell for a single great freaking show.  This in turn led me to end up re-watching large parts of said show because it’s just that freaking great.   Also, if anyone reading this wants lengthy essays on why I love a certain series, ask away and I’ll write one up if I’m feeling productive one day!
Anyway!
If you’re looking for recently-aired stuff, you can go through my GIF tag to see what I’ve been watching for the past few seasons.  Chances are if I’m making GIFs of something I also recommend watching it.   The only recent show that I’d mention specifically as deserving more attention than it received is Made In Abyss.  It’s a great little show.  It’s also really dark, despite the cutesy character designs, so don’t be fooled.  Also, if body horror is a trigger, stay the fuck away.  The Abyss does bad bad things to people.   Anyway, on to the old stuff ;)
Macross SeriesMacross is my all-time favorite ongoing setting.  It’s one of the great pillars of the Real Robot genre.  It’s stands apart from its peers by focusing more on the human side of conflicts, having an actual nuanced take on the role of the military, and just being very hopeful in general.    There are several separate series that I recommend, thus I am grouping them together.
The Super-Dimension Fortress Macross (1982):  The original.  A true classic of anime.  The animation is terribly dated at this point, but the story still holds up.  Every time I remember that I first watched this within a year or two of it airing, I feel really old.
Do You Remember Love? (1984):  A stunningly-animated movie version of the TV series.  The story is slightly different, but close enough if you don’t want to put in the time to watch the TV series but want a better frame of reference on the sequels.  It’s also one of the most technically impressive hand-animated movies put to film, so it’s worth a look.
Macross Plus (1994):  Four episode OVA series set 30 years after the original.  The focus is on the reunion of three former friends rather than the overarching events of the setting, so it can easily be watched without knowing anything about Macross.  It’s also widely regarded as one of the best OVA series ever made.  It launched the career of Yoko Kanno, among others.
Macross Frontier (2007):  Takes place 47 years after the original on board one of Earth’s many outbound colony fleets.  Like Macross Plus, the cast is original to the series, and the first 8 or so episodes begin with summaries of the history of the Macross setting, so it can be watched without watching the others…though you’ll miss a lot of references and a bit of the story nuance, but not enough to be unenjoyable.
Moving on from Macross!
Azumanga Daioh (2002):  The original slice-of-life show.   Cute girls doing cute things.  You will cry when they graduate.  Watch it.
Nadia of the Mysterious Seas (1990):  High adventure in the 1800s!  Very very loosely based on 2000 Leagues Under The Sea.  This is the series that put Gainax on the map.  It also has one of my favorite openings ever.
Aim For the Top!  Gunbuster! (1988):  While we’re talking about the glories of 80s-90s Gainax, let’s drop in on Gunbuster.  A surprisingly-deep take on the Super Robot genre, featuring the most hot-blooded female pilots you’ll find anywhere, which is a huge selling point.   If you ever wonder why Evangelion took off so quickly, it’s because it was sold to us as a TV series “by the people who did Gunbuster!”
Marmalade Boy (1994):  For years this was my ‘warm blanket and dark chocolate’ anime.  Whenever I was feeling down for reasons hormonal or otherwise I’d just start watching randomly from one of the 76 episodes.  It’s just an animated soap opera.  The main character, Miki, is stunned when her parents come back from a vacation and announce that they’re swapping partners with a couple they met in Hawaii.  They all move into the same house together, and Miki meets the other couple’s son Yuu.  Hijinks ensue.  Nearly every episode ends on a cliffhanger or stunning revelation.  It oozes melodrama from every frame of animation.
EDIT:  I just walked out into the living room and told the wife what I was doing and mentioned that I recommended Marmalade Boy.  Her response:  “RUN MIKI!  RUN FROM YOUR PROBLEMS!” and now I can’t stop laughing, because that’s exactly Miki’s response to everything bad that happens to her.
(I appear to be drifting closer to writing essays for them all, I’ll just add a couple more and move on)
Yamato 2199 (2012):  A bit of a cheat, as this is fairly recent, but it’s a direct remake of the original 1970′s series that I watched as a kid…and it’s frankly better than the original.
Please Save My Earth (1993):  Six-episode OVA series that covers the first half of the manga series by the same name.  A girl named Alice begins having dreams of living in a hidden base on the moon.  She encounters several other people who are dreaming the same thing.  I used to hate one of the characters for what he did.  Then I understood but still couldn’t forgive it.  Finally, now, I think I can forgive him.  It’s a series that makes you feel very strongly, but to explain is to spoil.  One of Yoko Kanno’s first series as a composer.
His and Her Circumstances (1998):   A romance buds between two people who hide their true selves behind a mask of normalcy.  Will they still like each other once those masks are stripped away?  A compelling romantic comedy from Gainax, and also one of the codifiers of the Gainax Ending, so the show kinda goes to shit in the second half, with three recap episodes and the animation devolving into stick figures, but the main plot is resolved long before then and despite all of this it remains a truly incredible series.
Okay, so, now we come to it.  The hard sell.
If there is anything at all in this post that you watch, you absolutely MUST WATCH
GIANT ROBO:  THE ANIMATIONThe Day The Earth Stood Still (1992)
I cannot possibly summarize the plot better than its own intro, so watch this:

The entire show is like that!  Breathless exposition!  Dashing heroics!  Fearful villainy!  And the entire thing done in a retro-60′s design aesthetic as an homage to the original creator of all the characters within, Mitsuteru Yokoyama.  Top it off with a literally operatic soundtrack and you have the recipe for…well…maybe that’s hard to say?  Why am I recommending a series about a kid who controls a giant robotic pharaoh?
The show looks absolutely ludicrous, and in many ways it is.  The characters are over the top in a very old-school sort of way.  You’ve got your obvious good guys, literally called the EXPERTS OF JUSTICE.  You’ve got your obvious bad guys who constantly pledge themselves to the service of a guy named BIG FIRE.  The heroes protect the new utopia that the world has become with the invention of a perfect power source.  The bad guys seek to destroy that utopia and crush humanity beneath their heel.  It’s all so cut-and-dry.  Even the characterization of some of the villains as “noble monsters” and some of the heroes as “ends justifies the means” loose cannons doesn’t really give it much depth.
At first.
The show very quickly disabuses you of that notion as it delves into what it actually took to carve out a utopian existence from a humanity that is so frequently opposed to any such thing.  It examines the motivations of the villains and finds them valid.  It examines the motivations of the heroes and finds them wanting.  It provides two questions that drive the emotional arc of the story and demands that the characters, and you the viewer, answer them.
Can happiness be achieved without sacrifice?
Can a new era be reached without misfortune?
As the sins of the past rise up to destroy the hope of the future, somehow the giant robot pharaoh stops seeming so ridiculous.  The fact that everything looks like 1960′s guy-in-monster-suit action cinema only serves to contrast the actual depth of the characters and the series as a whole.  To say more is to spoil, so I’ll not go into detailed analysis.  Suffice it to say:  The show looks silly, yet is really quite serious.
It also has one of the best finales of all time.  I watched this series as it was released, and there was a three year wait between episode six and episode seven, and I can honestly say it was worth every second.  Re-watching it just a few hours ago, my cheeks were wet with tears and stretched in a big grin at the same time.  It’s probably the most satisfying end to a series I’ve seen.
So, there you have it.  A whole bunch of old anime to watch.  (WATCH GIANT ROBO)
If anyone reading this actually watches something based on my recommendation and enjoys it, please let me know.  It’s always great to hear that a recommendation was well-received.

I'm absolutely terrible at prompts (aren't all writers?!) but I would love to see you write about a time in Taker that Yuuri was unintentionally super soft and romantic and it totally destroyed Victor in a good way. I'm in a sappy mood for some reason!
Sorry it took me a few days, but your wish is my command. This is between the Press Conference and Beijing 1.
The weather is still mild, not yet so chilly at night that heavy coats or clothing are necessary, but it is a beach town and so the wind comes over the waves kind of ruining the peace.
Yuuri’s been working hard since the Press Conference, but tomorrow’s a rest day. Minako cut his ballet time short because of an office party having rented her bar for the night.
So Yuuri is at loose ends.
Loose ends these days usually mean an extended soak in the onsen followed by him and Victor fucking a few times until sleep takes over. He doesn’t mind those nights—far from it, in fact—but he’d rather do something less expected.
Yuuri sits on a stool in the Yu-Topia kitchen while his mom preps for the evening rush. Broth boils on the stove in a giant pot, and the smell of oil hangs in the air, permeating the room. “Mom?”
“Yes?” she asks absently as she gets a whole salmon out of the fridge. She sets to work with precision filleting and de-boning it for the night’s sashimi special. Yuuri can do it as well, naturally. He considers maybe one day showing off for Victor.
“Do we have a basket? Or old blankets?”
“Basket…” His mom replies as she runs her hand down the fish. She grimaces a third of it down, grabbing the tweezers. Out comes three pin bones. “The ones for Hanami?”
“Yeah!” Yuuri says.
“Hm, they should be in the storage room we let Yurio sleep in,” she says after a thought or two. “Do you need them?”
“Well, one,” Yuuri says. “Thanks!”
He hops off the stool and heads to the room in question. It’s attached to the room that’s come to be his and Victor’s, though Victor isn’t there. He slides the door open and right to his left is a giant, fancy-but-has-seen-better-days basket made of white wicker with green and white gingham lining.
He grabs it along with a thick blanket, folding it and putting it on its bottom. Then he calls the place he always called in high school for Hanami with the Nishigoris, the last time being when Yuu-chan was pregnant and almost bursting, and he places the order. He borrows Victor’s bike, grabbing the stuff when it’s ready, and rides it back to Yu-Topia.
Victor reappears at this point, Makkachin at his heels. “Yuuri,” he says warmly.
Yuuri gives him a smile. “Hey, I got us something. Will you come with me?”
Curiosity dominates Victor’s expression. “Of course.”
“Grab a jacket,” Yuuri says as he zips up his own tight. Victor puts on his gray puffy jacket he wears during practice, and Makkachin follows them. The basket is looped over Yuuri’s arm as they end up at the beach, the spot from three months ago where Yuuri learned he could let down his walls for Victor.
He spreads out the blanket and puts the rest in the middle—a Hanami party package with karaage, bento full of makizushi and tamago, takoyaki which is one of Victor’s favorites, a variety of mochi flavors, and sake.
Makkachin boofs and chases in the background as Victor watches Yuuri set up their spread. He sits on his knees, looking up at him. The sun begins to dip low on the horizon, blue skies turning a golden hue with fading stripes of pink and purple. Yuuri blushes and clears his throat. “Sit.”
Victor does. “What’s all this?”
“Normally, a hanami party is for sakura viewings in the spring,” Yuuri explains. “But I thought….you and I could stargaze here at the beach.”
Victor swallows, looking a bit thrown. Yuuri smiles.
“Sit,” Yuuri emphasizes like Victor is a stubborn puppy.
Victor sits. They grab their chopsticks and begin to eat. It’s a comfortable silence that stretches, and Victor and Yuuri both feed Makkachin bits of the fried chicken. When the food is gone, Victor helps Yuuri clear the dishes, putting them into the basket.
The sky darkens further, stars making themselves known high above. Victor and Yuuri sit, leaning back on their hands. Victor’s left is close enough to Yuuri’s right, he reaches out and strokes his pinky over his knuckles. Victor’s eyes widen and he gives Yuuri a glance.
Yuuri smiles. “I missed them,” he says as he looks skyward. “Detroit is so busy with so many lights—you can’t see them. Here it’s dark enough that it makes a good difference.”
“Which ones are which?” Victor asks, leaning towards him.
Yuuri leans close as well, and they look at each other for a moment before he points to one bright star. “You see that grouping of five that look like a couple of mountain peaks?”
“Mmm,” Victor says.
“Cassiopeia,” Yuuri names it. “And that one over that way? It’s kind of a person-shape? That’s Andromeda.”
He names a few more that are visible without a telescope while Victor hangs on his every word. When he’s out of knowledge, he takes Victor’s hand, holding it while his thumb traces the vein leading to his heart.
It’s too dark to tell if Victor’s blushing or not, but he clears his throat regardless as he looks into Yuuri’s eyes.
Yuuri leans in for a long, soft kiss with one hand wrapped around the nape of Victor’s neck. His fingers run through the short hairs there, and Yuuri wonders what it would have been like to kiss Victor before the haircut. It doesn’t matter, really, since he gets to kiss Victor in the here and now whenever he feels the urge.
He pushes just the slightest bit and Victor ends up on his back with Yuuri pressed into his chest. He doesn’t intend for it to go beyond this, as it’s a public beach and the entire town knows who he is, but still…it’s nice to kiss Victor out under the stars as if they’re at the ends of the Earth.
Victor’s hands pull Yuuri close by the belt loops on his jeans, and Yuuri pauses to set his glasses aside. There’s a complex look on Victor’s face, mostly affectionate but also a little stunned. “Lapochka.”
Victor brushes the hair off Yuuri’s forehead as he smiles down at him. “Mhm?”
Yuuri makes a point to kiss Victor’s mouth lest he be unable to answer. He chooses instead to kiss his cheekbone a couple of times. Victor grips Yuuri tighter like he thinks a strong wind can carry him away.
Victor doesn’t speak, instead moving so their lips meet again. Kissing him this time is like a snowfall—it’s soft and lush, the world is silent in a way that rings of purity—and Yuuri loves him so much he dare not disturb things.
When the kissing slows to a stop, Victor looks at Yuuri like he’s why the sun rises and sets. Yuuri blushes and waits.
Words don’t come, Victor instead kissing him again. They lose track of time, too wrapped up in each other to make sense of the cooling air and change in the light above, but then the sun rises and a dishevelled, kiss-struck Victor rasps, “We never went home.”
They didn’t, and they didn’t have sex either. They really just made out for hours like middle school kids left alone with a door closed for the first time. “Oops.”
Makkachin boofs from the end of the blanket. Yuuri chuffs an embarrased laugh as he sits back on his heels. Victor is slow to rise off his back, and in the early morning light Yuuri sees the flush on his face. His hair’s a huge disaster, too, probably from Yuuri’s hands, and his eyes are glassy like he doesn’t know how to feel.
“Come on, we better get back,” Yuuri says around another laugh.
Victor just nods with that same stunned look, taking the basket from Yuuri to carry it home.
Too bad the inn work begins so early—they might have made back it unnoticed. As it stands, Yuuri doesn’t see the smile on his mother’s face when she notices they go into Victor’s room together.
