Little furry friend (Bruno x F!Reader) part 2
Tumblr media
For @hectic-hector (ily 💕)
Part 1
-----------------
"Julieta!! Do something about your sister!!"
The healer sighed and rolled her eyes fondly before turning to see Pepa effortlessly carrying Bruno into the kitchen. She knew that her brother justified that with the weight loss he had while living in the walls, but the three of them knew that Pepa had always had incredible strength and that she could lift both of them on each arm without breaking a sweat.
"Julieta!! Tell your brother to stop being a crybaby!!"
"I'm not a crybaby!"
"Yes you are!"
"Julieta!!"
"Okay, that's enough" the older one said, trying not to laugh at Bruno's pout when Pepa sat him down in a chair "what's going on?"
"Your sister is a nightmare"
"Your brother is an airhead"
"...okay, something else I don't already know?"
"HEY!!"
Julieta laughed at her siblings’ expressions and rolled her eyes again. Sometimes it was exhausting mediating their fights, but she truly loved them with all of her being and wouldn't have them any other way, no matter how many gray hairs they gave her in a day (definitely more than the six grandchildren combined).
"And you're supposed to be the good triplet?" Pepa crossed her arms with a pout.
"I always said that we should be careful with her, she has a mischievous glint in her eyes" Bruno whispered to the redhead
"So it's against me now?" the older one said, putting her hands on her hips "two seconds ago you were arguing for god knows what"
"oh yeah! You're right"
"Oh no, did you have to remind her?"
Bruno growled when a rainbow invaded the kitchen and Pepa got a little closer to her older sister, taking her by the hand like an excited child. It was always funny how Pepa could change her mood so quickly, especially when she was with her siblings, when she felt safe from being judged. But it wasn't as funny when he was the victim of her plans.
"Let's invite Y/N to dinner!"
"What?"
"We are NOT going to invite her to dinner, Pepa!"
"Why not? You already spend all day with her anyway, Bruno"
"It's different!"
"Why?!"
"Because you are not there to try anything"
"Excuse me?!" the redhead thundered "well sorry but someone has to take the next step if you're not going to do it yourself"
"There is no next step, Pepa, we are just friends!"
Julieta sighed again and pinched the bridge of her nose as her siblings returned to a heated discussion that must have started long before they entered the kitchen. She could understand Bruno's anger or concern, and would usually agree with him that things should happen on their own.
The thing was, this time, she was on Pepa's side. It had been months since you showed up at the house with Bruno's rat in your hand and the whole family had been surprised at how well you got along with him. She had to admit that like her sister, she felt quite betrayed that he hadn't told them about you sooner, but she understood that he had a right to his privacy as well.
And if she was honest with herself, she was relieved at how well you treated her little brother. It wasn't common for townspeople to associate with him of their own free will, even after the candle fiasco, but you didn't seem to have any problem, you were kind to him, you treated him as an equal, and you were even one of the few people he felt comfortable enough about physical contact with.
Of course, the nervous mess he was when you were around him, or the blush that would always come over his face when you smiled at him, or the goofy smile he had all the time when you talked to him, didn't go unnoticed either. Dolores even confirmed that his heart raced every time he saw you or someone said your name. It was obvious to everyone that Bruno Madrigal was completely in love with Y/N Y/L/N, and would be cute, if it wasn't for him refusing to do anything about it.
Her brother was already exhausting the family's patience and even Casita had tried to intervene (which is why Bruno chose to go to your house instead of having you visit them). Julieta was really beginning to consider that they would have to take that step for him.
She snapped out of her thoughts when Pepa's thunder began to get louder. The kitchen began to be filled with black clouds and if she didn’t intervene soon, all her effort would be wasted due to the rain. However, she did not have time to do something when you popped your head through the window, with a small rat on your shoulder.
"Hi Juli!" You said, always smiling "What are you doing?"
Months ago, it would not even have occurred to you to be so open with her, but after the kind reception that the whole family had made, you could not help but feeling comfortable and happy every time you approached Casita.
"These two, always fighting" she returned the smile
"For the last arepa again?"
"No" she laughed, remembering the time Pepa almost threw a knife to Bruno when he took the last arepa, although she quickly calmed down when she saw that he had taken it for you "for something that Pepa wants Bruno to do"
"Ohhhh" you said, with curiosity in your eyes "What thing?"
She was about to answer when Antonio suddenly entered the kitchen. The boy smiled widely as soon as he saw you and ran to greet you. After Bruno, Madrigal's youngest son was the one who more time spent with you.
"Hello Y/N!"
"Hey Buddy!" You answered "Long time no seeing you"
"Yes, you didn't come for three days!" he pouted
"I'm sorry, I had things to do in the carpentry" you apologized
You did not even notice that the black clouds had disappeared, or that the Madrigal triplets were looking at you with curiosity, kindness and nervousness.
"It's okay" Antonio smiled at you "is just that the animals began to ask me where Uncle Bruno's girlfriend was" he shrugged
You felt your cheeks turning red, and you quickly looked where the seer was, a few steps behind his nephew. He did not look better than you, on the contrary, he looked pale and two seconds of fainting, while his sisters smirked and tried to hide their laughs behind their hands, although the rainbow that filled the room betrayed the redhead.
If you were honest, the idea itself was not bad. Actually, you had long accepted your feelings for the younger triplet, even if you didn’t plan to do something about it because you did not think the man returned your feelings. But now, seeing him so red and nervous, you committed to question it.
"S-she’s not my g-girlfriend" Bruno stuttered, resisting the impulse to hide with the hood of his Ruana
"She's not?" Antonio asked innocently
"No, I'm not" you replied
For a moment that seemed frozen in time, you could feel the eyes of the three adults on you, Pepa seemed disappointed, Julieta contained her breath and Bruno looked really defeated. That was what made you take a risk.
"Toñito, your uncle and I share Sebastián, remember?" you said gently
"Yeah?"
"That means we have a child together" you smiled with malice when you heard the triplets gasps "I am not his girlfriend, I am his wife"
"W-what?!"
Pepa and Julieta laughed at their brother's complete shock, and you couldn't help noticing how adorable it was. But then, as if he was a statue, he fell backwards, harshly hitting against the ground.
".... ooops" you said.

Another day, another pain for Camilo Madrigal.
If you think being magical is all cool and awesome, sometimes it's a hell of a burden, and you can see it clearly when you take a good look at the village's shapeshifter.
"Camilo! Can you turn into someone taller and reach this?"
"Camilo! Please take care of my daughter and turn in to me!"
"Camilo! Can you shapeshift into Luisa?”
He can only fake a smile and tend to orders, I mean, that’s what he was meant for right?
Right?
He thought it was, but not until you came along.
“Camilo!” You yelled and waved at him, urging him to come to you. He approached you tending to the broken drum. “Who do you need me to turn into, Y/N?” He replied, sitting beside you who was clearly having trouble over your broken instrument.
“What? No, I just need you to hold this for me while I tie the string on this bongos.” You grabbed the end of the string and handed it to him.
Camilo was taken aback. “Are you sure? I can be Luisa or Jose or Andres if you want.”
You shook your head as you gave him a warm smile. “No I don’t need Luisa or Jose or anyone else, only I need Camilo Madrigal.”
Something sparked in him that day, and he would never forget it.
You don’t know what just happened, but this wasn’t what you expected.
Anger, distress, frustration, and a tense atmosphere wasn’t what you expected to come along between you and Camilo.
“Why couldn’t I just have a proper conversation with you, Camilo? Everything that happens between us always ends up being my fault!” You yelled, gripping the hem of your top as hard as you can, you eyes glassy and teary.
“Every time I have a conversation with you, you would always make it about yourself! Can’t I have my own time to share my feelings to my own best friend?” Camilo yelled back.
“You never do! You never tell me anything! Its- It’s that thing you always do where you pretend you’re fine but you’re not and when I try to at least get something out of you, you just pour it all to me like it’s my fault!”
Camilo cursed under his breath. “You don’t tell me what to do, Y/N! You don’t think that I know how to express myself, coming from a mother who’s emotions control the fucking weather?! I am capable of taking care of my own self and I don’t need your bossy ass bitchiness to baby me as if I’m a child!”
This was your last straw.
“Watch your fucking mouth, Camilo. Never did I once force you to do anything. Not even your powers or your goddamn gift because I just wanted you to be proud of your own damn self.” You inched closer to him, griping his ruana and forcing him to look at you. When you saw the once happy hazel eyes turn dark and empty, you mumbled the last words you ever get to say to him.
“I’m not dealing with this anymore. Find another fucking friend that you won’t treat like shit.” Letting go, you turned away and headed home.
Something faded in him that day, and he would do anything it takes to forget it.
Those emotions of anger oddly lasted longer.
The two of you were no longer friends. Oftentimes you would pass by each other in the village but in the form of glares and sharp daggers that everyone could notice. No one meddled in the both of you though, it was your problem.
You hated Camilo, your first friend. The friend that would take a bullet for you if you messed up the fruit stall. The friend that sneaked Julieta’s snacks in your pockets so you could get them for free. The friend that would cheer you up when you’re down. Sadly, he was no longer that.
Camilo hated you, his best friend. The friend that would take the blame if Pepa saw him in trouble. The friend that would play music for him when he’s down. The friend that would take his turn playing with the kids so that he could rest. The friend that would constantly remind him of his true identity that gets covered in his shapeshifting abilities. Sadly, you were no longer that.
Weeks went by and both of you still seemed fine. Not that either of you gave a crap, but strangely, it was like back to square one like nothing even happened. Both of you were blinded by anger and hated to realize the empty hole in your hearts that longed for the other. But to be fair, neither of you were THAT close to be intimate. Just like a bunch of friends, there was still space between you two.
For now.
It was not like Camilo cared at all, but he wondered why he hasn’t seen you in 2 days. It was not the usual. You were always near your house, either tending to your stall or just staying in your balcony reading a book.
But you weren’t.
While passing by your block, he noticed that your window was shut, and your book was torn on the floor. Picking it up, his eyebrows furrowed. Shouldn’t be happy you were gone? Why isn’t he angry?
Camilo couldn’t sleep, and he refuses to believe it was because you. He snuck out his room to take a breather, and walked down to the kitchen probably thinking that he couldn’t sleep because he was hungry.
Shuffling through the cabinets, he heard a rather loud thud from the outside window of Casita. Looking around, he glanced at the shifting tile from the alive house. “Was it you?”
Casita fiddled with the tiles, showing what resembled a shrugging action.
Camilo approached the window and opened it. He saw ruffling in the bushes, and a familiar outfit running into the woods. Dropping his snack, he hopped out the window to chase you.
It wasn’t long before his hand caught yours as you were taken aback. Flinching from the action, you turned around and backed away with glassy eyes.
“What the fuck are you doing here parading late at night?” Camilo snarled at you, eyes giving an emotion you couldn't discern.
You scoffed, dusting your sleeves, “Like you care, just-” You paused.
“-just pretend you never saw me.” You turned around to walk away but Camilo abruptly grabbed your hand.
“You don’t get to disappear just like that! What kind of sick joke are you playing?”
You accepted his tight grip onto your wrist and finally looked at him. “No one fucking cared, Camilo. My family wanted me out and they didn’t give a shit when I did. Did anyone even notice I was gone? No. And I’m happier that way.”
But I noticed. Camilo thought. Wanting to say it out loud but he didn’t.
You continued. “With or without me, everyone is fine. Now pleas- don’t mention this to anyone and pretend I wasn’t here” You tried to let go of his grip but instead he pulled you closer and dragged you to his house.
“Not a fucking chance. I hate you but I’m not an ass that would leave you out here in the open at midnight.”
Camilo never let go of your grip. As much as you struggled, you didn’t scream or yell or say a word because you knew of his sister with super hearing. Being forcefully dragged into his room, you only sulked.
Camilo softly closes the door and locks it.
“You’re not leaving here till morning.”
You gasped, “The fuck?! Now you’re holding me hostage?”
Gripping the doorknob, Camilo stared blankly at you. “Idiot, my dad would kill me if something happened to you.”
“Oh. And I thought the Camilo Madrigal was finally getting soft over me” You grumbled, receiving a scoff from the boy.
“Like I care about you.” Ouch. You expected it coming from him but somehow, why did it hurt?
“Not surprised, no one ever does.” Camilo’s eyes softened for a second, hearing the slight disappointment from your tone but shrugs it off. He approaches his bed and fixes the blankets.
“There’s only one bed so, sleep on the floor.” You glared at him.
“The hell? The grass would be a better place if you just let me out.”
“No. Sleep on the damn floor.”
“No.”
“Fucking hell, Y/N!” He slammed his hand on the bedframe, forgetting for a second that it was late at night and he probably startled his sister.
He cleared his throat and mumbled a “Sorry, Dolores” And you kind of softened, seeing him care.
Sighing in defeat, you gave up. “Fine, I’ll sleep on the floor.”
You couldn’t sleep. Yeah, it was uncomfortable but for some reason it wasn’t the only one keeping you awake and you don’t know what it was. Standing up, you walked around his room and saw him sleeping comfortably in his bed. Well, you had no other choice.
You slapped his leg, jolting him awake.
“Scoot over.” You mumbled, pushing away the pillows and blankets to make space for you in the other side.
“You’re impossible to deal with.” He only moved aside, being too tired to argue. Putting a large pillow between the both of you, he faced the other way and went back to sleep.
You still couldn’t. You were comfortable, but something else was clouding your mind and you couldn’t stop it from doing so. It frustrated you. All the events started flashing back on your mind. Your fight with Camilo, losing your best friend. Your argument with your parents, losing your home. Almost everything that has kept you from sleeping for the past week. You badly needed comfort, something you needed to finally fall asleep.
You looked over at Camilo who was now sleeping facing you. He was lightly snoring, hands under his puffed cheek while his arms were cuddling his pillow.
Were you about to do it?
I shouldn’t-
Ah fuck it.
Mumbling a curse, you fiddled with your blankets and faced his sleeping figure. You took the pillow that was between his arms, jolting him awake once again.
But before he even got to complain, you dove into his arms and hid your face in his chest. His eyes widened, looking down to your head that was snuggled in front of him. Camilo stood completely frozen, not being able to form a coherent thought. You guys were friends, yes but you never hugged him, not until now.
Before he was able to finally say a word, he stopped himself after hearing you sniffle and seeing your shoulders shake. Immediately his fingers went to the locks of your hair and whispered hushing sounds to keep you calm- a technique he used to do for his mom when she was anxious.
“Hey, deep breaths okay?” He mumbled against the crown of your head, trying to take deep breaths to let yours sync with his.
“I’m sorry.” You manage to whisper, face still hidden under his. “I-” You stuttered.
“I miss you.” Was all you managed to say.
All walls manage to break in Camilo’s head. This was the reason why he was also losing his sleep.
Shifting his position, he lifted you up slightly so that your head was lying on his shoulder facing him as his legs were entangled with yours.
“I missed you too.” He said to you, eyes no longer reflecting anger, but sadness and regret. “I’m sorry for being an ass to you. You were only trying to help..”
You looked at him and placed your hand on his jaw, turning it to face you, face only inches apart.
“I’m sorry too, for forcing you to speak, I should have waited until you were comfortable with it.”
He leaned in closer. “I’ve already been comfortable with you.” He smirked.
Seeing through him, you played along. “Oh really? Prove it to me then” You brushed your lips against his and when he closed his eyes, you pulled away from his embrace and rolled over to the side to act like you were going back to sleep.
He gasped dramatically. “You did not just- you fucking tease.”
“Go to sleep, Camilo-” He heard your laugh for the first time in weeks, Oh boy did he miss this.
“You’re messing with me”
“No, I’m not, Madrigal. You’re just in love with me”
“And what if I actually am?” You heard him and immediately blushed, heat reaching every inch of your cheeks.
You sat up to face him. “What?” You managed to choke out, eyes widened. Camilo laughed at you as he opened his arms wide for you.
“Come here and kiss me, you idiot.”

Camilo-kun to Y/N-san
1: Camilo Madrigal
Anyone familiar with Horimiya?
Camilo as Hori Kyouko and Y/N as Miyamura Izumi
Summary: Camilo Madrigal, the popular guy in Encanto High who is actually like a House Husband at home meets introverted girl, Y/N L/N who is an E-Girl… They fell, but will they notice?
Inspired by the anime ‘Horimiya’
Camilo x F!Reader (Modern Au)
This will be in multiple parts so stay tuned! And hoped that I won’t get grounded because I’m about to repeat my 12th grade 🥲😥😢😭 This part covers Camilo’s start.
Tumblr media
“Ca.Mi.Lo!! Let’s go karaoke after school!” A bestie of Camilo said as he sighs, twirling an envelope around his fingers and hand. He had gotten yet another confession letter from another school. He can’t blame them though, he is that popular guy in Encanto High for crying out loud. “Sorry Tulip, I have to pass this one.” Camilo said apologizing to his friend who puffed her cheeks like a squirrel that had food stuffed in her mouth, “C’mon! This is the 5th time this month! You never go out with us!” Camilo blinked at his friend’s antics in an attempt to make him come. Camilo just huffed and brushed her off, “Don’t be like that Tulip. You know that Camilo is hard to deal with.” Mirabel, Camilo’s prima, who is also his classmate, said as she placed her hands on the auburn curled boy in front of her. “Thank you for the compliment my dear prima.” Camilo said sarcastically, standing up from his seat and started to pack his stuff. Unnoticeable to him, his phone fell out of his pocket, only to be picked up by his classmate. “Um… Camilo…” A female voice is to be heard, causing Camilo to turn to the owner. It was a girl with hair covering her left eye, reaching out to him.
Camilo looked down and saw his phone on her hands, “Your phone fell off.” The girl said as he nodded and took the phone. The girl then nodded before going out of the classroom. Tulip and Mirabel saw the interaction and waited for Camilo’s response. He clicked his tongue, “Who was that again?” Camilo asked the two girls in front of his seat. Mirabel sighs, “That was Y/N L/N. She’s a bit shy around others and is afraid of interacting with anyone here. I’m surprised that she talked to you, Cami.” Mirabel said as Tulip scoffed, “That’s because she’s a loner and an otaku. No one really expects much from her, other than her high grades.” Tulip commented as Camilo fell silent. There was a girl like that in his class that he didn’t even know of? He tapped his phone and saw the time and cursed himself for forgetting, “Crap, I need to go.” Camilo said saying goodbye to Mirabel and Tulip. “So you and Camilo don’t live together?” Tulip asked Mirabel. “He and his family live at the opposite side of my street and it is just a few minutes away.” Mirabel said as Tulip wanted to say something, “Camilo is a very secretive guy. He has his things to take care off.” Mirabel said.
•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
After running to his house, Camilo immediately changed his clothes to something more comfortable and tied his hair into a low ponytail before picking up the vacuum from the nearby cabinet. “Alright, let’s get started.” He said as he started to do his chores. This is the typical life of that Famous guy in Encanto High, Camilo Madrigal. He is the middle child of the Madrigal Family (Pepa’s side) and he mostly do the chores in his home. His mother, Pepa Madrigal, is usually coming home late at night due to her job being a News Anchor for the Daily News while his father, Felix Madrigal, works as a Surgeon at the nearby hospital where Julieta is stationed as a dean of Medicine. Ever since his older sister, Dolores, has left for college last year… He have been in charge of keeping the house as neat as possible. And of course, that includes taking care of his younger brother, Antonio, whom he needs to pick up from daycare now. “Ah! I almost forgot!” Camilo said as he finishes up quick, changes into appropriate clothing. He then took the keys to the house, locked the door and went on his way to pick up Antonio.
He knocked on the door of Antonio’s classroom and it opened to be Antonio’s home room teacher, “Antonio, your big brother’s here!” The teacher said as Antonio excitedly goes to the door with his bag on his back, “Camilo!” Camilo heard his brother as he excitedly jumped up and down, “Hey hermanito! Let’s go home!” Camilo said as he reaches out for Antonio’s hand, who clasped his hand on Camilo’s. They exited the school grounds and talked along the way, “So, what do you want for dinner?” Camilo asked Antonio, who cutely thinks, “How about a chef’s specialty?” Antonio said, making Camilo smirk, “Oh? Then I’ll make something that’ll sure make you say ‘delicious’ in Japanese!” Camilo said as Antonio laughed. Camilo then noticed some students on their way home from Karaoke. This made Camilo sigh sadly… He wanted to hang out with his friends like those students but he can’t… The family needs something to hold them together… As Camilo walks with his brother home, a little sad, he didn’t noticed that a girl with e-girl clothing passed by him and stopped. She turns around, double thinking about Camilo’s appearance…
‘Is that Camilo Madrigal?’

Two more lonely people Epilogue
NSFW 18+
Summary: the end and the beginning. A future so bright.
Pairing: Bruno Madrigal x fem werewolf! reader
Warnings: fluff
Word count: 675
Masterlist PT1
Tumblr media
You never thought this day would happen, or any of the amazing days for the past few months.
The day a few weeks after Bruno’s first shift, where the Madrigals invited you and your mother to a proper dinner. Bruno kneeling down on one knee before you with a little gold ring in his hand, a tiny green gem imbedded into the metal.  To say you were surprised was an understatement. Normally a proposal is expected in Encanto, something that the whole town knows is coming, but somehow, they hid it from only you.
The day about two months later, where you ran to the bathroom to throw up, then over and over for the next week until you finally asked Julieta to help you and she told you that you’re pregnant. You stood staring at her with your mouth hanging open, dumbfounded and confused, at least until the urge to puke overcame you once more and you had to run to the closest sink.
The day a month later when you finally walked down the aisle. Bruno had tears in his eyes and a loving smile on his lips, dressed in his best as he watched you walk to meet him at the altar. your wedding dress was a floor length white dress that fades into green at the bottom, though your mother had to adjust it for the big day as your belly grew a decent bit between the proposal and the day of your wedding.
Each day you’ve woken up to Bruno whispering sweet words in Spanish to your belly. Calling you his beautiful wife as he brings you breakfast each Saturday morning.
Or this day, sitting down for lunch and suddenly going into labour.
You never thought this day would come, a tiny infant in your arms, wiggling their fingers as they sleep soundly in your arms. Bruno lies beside you on the bed, watching his sleeping child with awe, his arm wrapped over your shoulder. You don’t think you’ve seen a man cry so many tears of joy before.
~~~~
Bruno’s POV
He always hoped this day would come and all the days since his first shift.
The few weeks he spent planning his proposal with his family and her mother, by some miracle keeping it a surprise for her. The joy and surprise on her face was worth it as she accepted the ring that he’d had made for her. And the way she kissed his face all over, repeating her acceptance. ‘Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!’ his family clapping and the whole town celebrating their engagement.
The days he was worried about her as she kept running to the bathroom to throw up and telling her to talk to Julieta. That day he’d found out she was pregnant with his child. He was over the moon with joy, unable to stop the praises and love falling out of his mouth and unwilling to leave her to do anything by herself.
Her beauty when she met him at the altar, her tummy starting to round out with his child. Her hair was pinned up and her dress hugged her well. Her voice was sweet as she spoke her promises to him, telling him all the reasons she loves him. surrounded by friends and family, all those that accepted that there are werewolves in their midst as she said, ‘I do’. How it felt different but the same to kiss his bride, his wife.
Each day getting up extra early to get breakfast for her, making sure he was back with it before she woke. Spending a few minutes each morning bonding with his unborn baby, telling them how proud he’ll be of them.
And today, looking into their beautiful blue eyes, holding them as their mother rests. He’s so full of love, for his wife and now his sweet little baby. He admires the soft layer of hair on their head, kissing it so tenderly.
He never thought this day would come, but he always hoped it would.
A/N: Short but sweet, the final chapter! Thank you to everyone who followed this and encouraged me, I am grateful to all of you and hope you enjoyed the ride. Remember! Like and reblog to share the love!!!
Goodnight, Sweet Prince
Pairing: Bruno Madrigal X GN! Reader
Warnings: ANGST ANGST ANGST, cursing
A/N: ok so you know how they announced that Bruno was like... the golden child when he was younger? Well I like to imagine that that lasted through his teenage years and o f . c o u r s e that level of power and popularity would go to a teenager’s head so I like to imagine that Bruno was a Grade A Asshole as a teenager, all cocky and maybe a lil smarmy, who had lots of cronies and partners and friends. I feel like it makes his fall from grace even sadder and gives his personality by the time we meet him in the movie more of an impact. I hate that Bruno is always portrayed as this little “uwu 👉🏼👈🏼” boy in fics. Like I get it after 10 years of isolation in the walls, because that’s kinda how he is sometimes in the movie, but I like to think he was a little less clinically insane before his isolation. Anyways, enjoy :D
Your friendship with Bruno Madrigal wasn’t normal; at the very least, in comparison to your other friendships.
You didn’t spend most of your waking hours with your other friends.
You didn’t braid your other friends’ hair.
You didn’t write dramatic love scenes with your other friends.
You certainly didn’t act out said love scenes with your other friends.
You didn’t have distinct speech patterns and banters with your other friends.
You weren’t as much of an asshole to your other friends, nor were they to you.
And you absolutely did not spend 4 nights or more out of the week cuddling all night as you watched shit TV shows and movies with your other friends.
Those were such things only reserved for Bruno. Such things only reserved for someone you were undeniably in love with.
You hadn’t always felt that way towards him, though; in fact, when you were younger, Bruno Madrigal was someone you absolutely avoided at all costs. The Madrigal triplets were always at the center of attention, and why wouldn’t they be? With their magical abilities and their tireless efforts for the Encanto, how could anyone not love them? And as a teenager, you agreed with those sentiments- at least towards the sisters, Julieta and Pepa.
You weren’t friends, per se, with the sisters, but at least they were kind to you. They’d engage in lighthearted conversation when seated next to you in school. They’d invite you to the soirees hosted at La Casa Madrigal for the older girls in school. They wouldn’t flinch away from you when you spoke to them like the other girls higher up on the food chain than you, and they wouldn’t bemoan having to work with you on assignments.
But Bruno, the prodigal son, on the other hand, was not your biggest fan, nor were you his. As an adolescent he was infinitely popular, with his strange yet unbelievably powerful gift of foresight, his attractive features, and his party trick of glowing neon eyes. He was constantly surrounded by peers trying to obtain his favour; constantly surrounding himself with friends, lovers, partners, significant others, admirers, acquaintances, and lower lifeforms trying to claw their way up the totem pole by praising him and adhering to his every beck and call.
Bruno Madrigal was popular, and he knew it. He was cocky, and a bully. But admittedly, he was a good actor, and adults often bought his feigned niceness and innocence, and he knew this, too. And something about him knowing all this allowed him to think he had the go-ahead to be asshat no. 1. Especially to people who didn’t spend their time sucking up to him.
People, like you.
Bruno never missed a chance to make your life miserable, and every time he failed to get a rise out of you, he doubled his efforts on his next attempt. Never dismissing an opportunity to make rude comments about you in front of the class when your name was mentioned, or when you unashamedly gave your best effort to answer a question, even if it was wrong. Never giving up a moment to belittle you, or tease you, or try to make your life a living hell.
Your mama always told you that he was just insecure; that he was jealous that you were confident, your own person, and not afraid to defy his need for control over the populous of your peers. But it didn’t change the fact that years of his torment took its toll on you.
And in your early twenties, when Bruno Madrigal fell from his pedestal- when he started giving out darker and uglier visions that people couldn’t stomach and he lost his power over the Encanto- you were relieved. You laughed, even, when your peers turned their backs on him and realised that people like yourself weren’t as bad as the fallen prince had deemed. But the charm of being out of the hot seat only lasted so long. No matter how badly you wanted to, you could never be as much of an asshole to him as he was to you. And in the instances where you passed each other in the street, and he waved out a timid hello with a wiggle of his slender fingers with eyes peering out from behind shaggy curls, you couldn’t help but nod your head in return. When your peers descended on him to deplore him in front of his family, you couldn’t help but defend him. When others would see him coming and duck out of the way or suddenly turn a corner to avoid him, you couldn’t help but frown, and raise your eyebrows and give him an apologetic smile.
It all changed one night at the cantina. Your friends were late meeting you there, and so you sat yourself down at the bar to start your night of drinking while you waited for them. As you went to take a sip from your drink, you had to do a double take as you saw at the very end to your left, the fallen prince hunched over a glass of what you could only assume was mezcal añejo on the rocks. A stubborn frown adorned his face, eyes hazy and plastered downward, trained on what must be some fascinating details in the wooden bar top. You argued with yourself for a moment about sliding down to talk to him, and you figured you probably looked like an idiot doing so, with your head bobbing back and forth as you mentally debated. Finally, you decided to bite the bullet. He just looked so… pathetic down at the end of the bar, all by himself. What’s the worst that could happen, you asked yourself. If he was a jerk to you, you could turn around and never give him the the benefit of the doubt again.
You opted to not sit on the barstool directly to his right, instead skipping it and taking the next one over. He didn’t look up as you did so, but even from one seat over and without him facing you, you could smell the smokiness of the liquor and the lime wafting off of him.
“There’s no gusano, if that’s what you’re coming over here for,” he slurred out before you even had a chance to fully settle into your seat.
“What?”
He just shrugged and continued to stare into his glass, swirling the ball of ice around. “I dunno, just seems like you’d be the type to eat it.”
You looked at him incredulously and immediately realised that this was a bad idea. And yet your mouth acted without your consent anyways. “You know, most mezcal doesn’t actually have one in it- it’s just a myth,” you stated defiantly. “And what makes you think I’d want to eat a grub?”
His nostrils flared as he laughed through his nose, his lips pulling into a tight smile. “You’re the weirdest person I know.”
Your eyes widened and your head turned towards him in a tilt, “you little-“
“And you’re the most fearless person I know.”
Now that shut you up; took whatever words that were growing in your diaphragm and killed them before they even reached your tongue.
“I was nothing but a dick to you all throughout school, and yet you’re the one approaching me because I probably look like the most miserable piece of shit in the entire joint.” He paused, before furrowing his brows and shaking his head. “That’s bravery. Courage. And honestly, more kindness than I deserve.”
You let out a single, hearty ‘ha’, your head thrown back as you added with a roll of your eyes, “yeah, you’re right about that last part for sure.”
At last he finally looked up at you, his brows risen and his face scrunched into a disbelieving smile as he chuckled through his nose again. As you looked into his green eyes, you realised that this was probably the most domestic and tranquil encounter you’d ever had with the fortune teller. He must have realised it too, because all too quickly his eyes widened and he shot his head back down to his drink, his hair curtaining his entire face sans the tip of his round and freckled nose.
You sat in semi-comfortable silence for a few more minutes, sipping your drinks, before he opened his mouth again.
“Eres el milagro que necesito pero no merezco.”
Your eyes widened. You figured that the liquor had finally replaced all the air in his head, because there was no way he just said that, right?
Something about Bruno’s drunken honesty must have sparked something within you that night, because after that, you slowly but surely became acquaintances with him. And your unexpected kindness towards their strange brother gave Pepa and Julieta more of a desire to talk to you, and you became better friends with them. Alma Madrigal, the head honcho of the entire Encanto started to look upon you with more favour. They invited you round to casita more often for lunches, and as such, you became closer friends with all of them. But the more time you spent with them, the more time you spent with Bruno, and eventually, the younger, chagrined part of you found yourself surprised to find that you considered him your closest friend.
And soon enough, you found yourself doing all the things with Bruno Madrigal you wouldn’t find yourself doing with anyone else.
It came as much of a shock to your mama as it had to you, after all he was an ass to you as a kid and she did not fail to mention that that was “without mentioning the fact that he’s a bad omen.” But one look at you and Bruno together told her everything she needed to know. Things neither you or Bruno even knew yet.
Alma noticed it, too. Julieta and Pepa noticed it, and after the sisters pointed it out to them, their fiancé and husband, respectively, noticed it too.
You didn’t notice it when you spent one too many nights over at each other’s houses, staying up all night to watch bad telenovelas and drink wine.
Bruno didn’t notice it when he’d show up to family dinner with flowers poorly braided into his hair and his sisters and mother would give him confused but knowing stares.
Neither of you would notice the wide-eyed glances and the “they’re together? They always hated each others!”’s as you walked through town during market days.
To everyone else, it took an embarrassingly long time for you to notice each other. The years spent watching your obliviousness towards each other was excruciating for the Encanto.
Bruno knew he loved you much earlier than you realised your feelings for him. You were in his room, the both of you sitting propped up against the headboard of his bed. You had been helping him revise his writing, nothing new. It was somewhere around 4:30 in the morning and in the midst of his reading out loud you had fallen asleep. He hadn’t even noticed, too engrossed with finding any mistakes in his work, until he felt your head fall into his shoulder. He just quietly laughed, changed his position so the both of you might be more comfortable, and thought to himself, “so this is what love is like.” Secretly, deep down, he realised he might have always wanted your approval and that’s why he was so mean to you as a child, because you wouldn’t give it to him. And now that he finally had it, he knew he’d never let it go.
It took longer for you to notice, but eventually and inevitably, you did. And when you finally noticed your feelings for the fallen prince, it hit you like a ton of bricks. It was Julieta’s and Augustin’s wedding day. You and Bruno had been together since the early hours of the morning. Not like he was your date, as you adamantly explained to your mama, and your papa, and Felix, and Pepa (multiple times with that one), and Julieta, and Augustin, and the priest, and… everyone. No he wasn’t your date, he was just… picking you up that morning. You were just sitting together, in the front row, with the rest of his family, at his oldest sister’s wedding. You just exited together, arm in arm, trailing out after the newly married couple. You were just eating together at the reception. You were just dancing together, all night, not letting anyone cut in to steal either of you away from each other. You were just staring into his brilliantly green eyes during the couple’s dance. You were just thinking. You were just… in love with him.
And it hurt, in some ways, because of course it had to be Bruno fucking Madrigal, and you knew deep down your 18 year-old self would’ve killed you had you known that this was what was to happen. Had Bruno himself given you a prophetic vision of that very moment of the two of you dancing at Julieta’s wedding, you would’ve locked the both of you up in fear you’d both gone crazy. But another part of you knew that this was the most ‘right’ you’d ever felt in your life. Never had you felt anything stronger for anyone else and never in your life would you ever want to attempt to feel like this for anyone else.
But lord knows the both of you were cowards.
And as long as it took for you and Bruno to admit your feelings to yourselves, it wouldn’t even compare to how long it took you to admit them to each other.
It wasn’t for a lack of opportunities, either.
You could’ve told him the night Julieta invited you over for dinner, because she was announcing that her and Augustin were having a baby, that the first of the grandchildren would be arriving in La Casa Madrigal in 8 months or less. It wasn’t like you didn’t go upstairs and hang out all night long afterwards. Feelings and impressions of intimacy were running rampant all evening with the announcement of a baby, and you desperately wanted to tell him, but you didn’t.
Bruno very well could’ve told you the night of Dolores’ gift ceremony, because all throughout the night you were there, grounding him, keeping him from going berzerk amongst the crowds of people celebrating the arrival of a new door. Your shoulders bumping his every so often comforted him as his social anxiety coursed through him. His eyes never strayed too far from your form for too long, only looking away long enough to acknowledge whoever dared to speak to Bad Luck Bruno, before quickly reverting back to you. You didn’t notice him staring, and thank god you didn’t, because he wasn’t sure what he’d do if you did. When his family forced him away from you to stand at their side as Dolores walked up the stairs to her door, all he could think about was you, down amongst the masses of people. All he could think about was how he desperately wanted to run to you and tell you how badly he needed you, how in secret he thought about what gift his child might receive should he ever have one, and how if he ever did, he’d want to have one with you. But lo and behold, as he watched you dance with his sisters in Dolores’ new room, he resigned himself to the fact that he was a wallflower; he didn’t have the unashamed arrogance he once possessed as a teenager, and the thought of telling you and risking losing altogether you was so much worse than having you at the excruciating distance you were at. And so, he didn’t tell you then, either.
Bruno should’ve told you on your 32nd birthday. You were all gathered in your house for a small dinner, with the Madrigals, your parents, and a few of your other friends. Bruno had been sat at your left all night, a perfect view of you as you commanded the party from your spot at the head of the table. All eyes were on you, and Bruno figured he had the perfect excuse to stare at you all night. You had just finished dessert and presents were now being passed around. You were too kind for your own good, Bruno thought, as you expressed genuine “thank you”’s with every gift, even the shitty ones, a bright grin on your face. And yet you had no idea just how much of a gift your smile was to Bruno. You were so much better than any gift his family ever received from the miracle. You were the gift he needed but didn’t deserve. You had already opened the present from the Madrigal family, but he had one for you that was just from him. But he’d only give it to you once all the others had been opened and everyone returned back to their respective conversations. He wanted you all to himself when he gave his gift to you. And slowly, as everyone dispersed their attention away from the gift opening and back to their conversations, he leaned over and whispered in your name in your ear, pressing a small box into your hand underneath the table. You looked at him confused, before pulling the box up to examine it. You tried to tell him that you already got a gift from the Madrigals but he just smiled and shook his head, urging you to open the box. You gave him the most beautifully giddy smile he’d ever seen you produce before you ripped the ribbon and the paper off and opening the little box. Inside was a necklace on a short but durable chord carrying an emerald flower. It wasn’t dainty, but neither were you. He told you he had the pendant made from the only vision he’s ever had of you; that he was in his late teens when he had it, and it came to him accidentally from the midst of another vision. But it was a vision of you nonetheless, older and happier than you had been at the time he had the vision. He told you that he never could get rid of it, and it sat on a shelf for years and years and years before he had recently thought to turn it into a necklace. You noticed your face faintly displayed in the necklace, distorted by the shaped details in the glass, and when you held it in a certain way, the bumps and ridges of the flower lined up perfectly and your face was clear as day. It nearly brought tears to your eyes and the smile you had on your face etched itself into Bruno’s core memory. He so badly wanted to press his own smile against yours and just melt into you, and for moment it was just you and him in the room and he almost did. But the sudden silence broke through to his consciousness and that’s when the both of noticed the rest of the room regarding the two of you. Bruno’s confidence instantly died away, and he didn’t tell you after all.
You should’ve told him when you saw an angry villager marching out of his vision cave as you entered for your near-daily visit. As the villager passed by you, he regarded you with a look of distaste and anger, but you paid it no mind, you knew how these readings of the future went for both the giver and the receiver. But Bruno had been so badly degraded by the man who hadn’t liked what future he’d been shown for his life. He knew the risks- they all did when they asked for a vision, Bruno never failed to express to them what they were getting into- and yet, he blamed him. He shot the messenger. And as you climbed the stairway leading up to his vision cave (which you swore had more stairs in it every time you climbed it), you could only imagine what Bruno’s face might look like. He never liked you to see him after a day filled with delivering prophecies. He always said he was tired; always said you might not find him as handsome as you normally would (to which you’d laugh, both at his joke and secretly at the fact that you’d never not find him attractive). When you reached the top of the stairs, all you saw was the door to his vision cave gently swinging back and forth, and an eery green glow emanating from within. You tentatively peaked your head in and called his name.
“Go away,” was all he managed. His back was towards you as he sat with his legs sprawled straight out in front of him in the sand, his back slouched and his head trained forward at the wall.
“Bruno, it’s just me-“ you started, but you didn’t have the chance to finish before his shoulders heaved and in a voice darker than you’ve ever heard him use repeated, “I said, go away.”
But you were one stubborn idiot, and you didn’t go away. Instead you sat to his left in the sand. Ever so gently you took his hand, tracing the lines in his palm with the pads of your right thumb. The room was dead silent for a good while, save for the squeaking of the door hinges, but you weren’t keeping time, and you certainly weren’t going to rush him into talking.
Finally, the fallen prince broke his silence. “He wanted to know if he had a shot at romance, but it’s always more complicated when they set their mind to one person, to one outcome. He wanted to know his future with one person and I told him it might not end well, I fucking told him to be open and reasonable to all outcomes but no, he wouldn’t listen.”
You were having a hard time listening to his ramblings, but you didn’t want to break the fragile moment by opening your fat mouth and asking for clarity, so you just waited for him to continue.
“He had his mind dead-set on one person, I’m guessing he’s wanted this one person for a long time.” He chuckled dryly. “I don’t know, and I don’t care, but it was cruel of him to ask it of me. Knowing what he does, what they all do and yet, he asked anyways. And when he didn’t like what he saw, well, you know the rest.”
You turned your head to the right and looked at him for the first time since entering his cave. You pointed the thumb of your free hand back towards the entrance to his room in reference. “Armando Alvarez? Why not just ask if he’ll ever be happy and in love? Who did he want to know if he ends up with?”
Bruno stiffened next to you before shaking his head. At last, he turned his head and looked deep into your eyes, which still swirled with dying bits of glowing emerald. You swore they were the most beautiful things you’d ever seen, but the upward draw of his brows and the grimace etched into his lips were a more pressing matter than his pupillary aesthetics. His eyes flitted back and forth, unconsciously trying to decide which of your own he should focus on.
Finally he opened his mouth, but he had to push to get the word out.
“You.”
You stiffened in surprise, a sharp intake of air entering your lungs before you shakily let it exit your body. You? Really? It was certainly flattering, but surely Armando Alvarez must surely know you have no interest in him. You’d talked to him what, maybe 6 times in your life? You knew you could count the number of times you’ve encountered the man between your two hands, that was for sure. At the very least, Armando Alvarez was a kind man, an honest man even, but he was not the brightest. You didn’t think, should you ever decide to settle for him, you could endure a lifetime of no intellectual stimulation. Bruno had spoiled you there, with his endless witticism. Regardless, you press on.
“Well, does he?”
“Does he what?”
“Win me.”
Bruno scowled. “You’re not a prize to be won. And even if you were, you’re certainly not one that that oaf could ever win.” He huffed a breathy laugh out from between his teeth. “Well, maybe in a wood chopping contest, but certainly not in the chess game that is romance. You’re too good for him.”
It was sweet to know that Bruno thought so highly of you. But one thing still didn’t make sense. What did Armando know? What did “they all” know?” You asked Bruno this and he tensed and turned away from you, finding intense interest in the sand beneath him. He was stock still and silent for a while, gathering and arranging his words.
“I don’t want to do visions about you. Not intentionally. Occasionally they just happen, they just slip out from beneath somewhere in my brain, but you’re too important to me to go around setting your life in stone. I won’t…“ he shuddered out a breath, “I can’t do that to you. You mean too much… no. No, you mean everything to me.”
Suddenly, you’d never been so sure that you knew exactly what your future would look like. You didn’t need one of the fortune teller’s visions to confirm. You just knew that it would involve him. You just knew you’d never spend another second without devoting everything you had in yourself to him.
And yet, even as he noticed the silent tears rolling down your face, even as he took his other hand- that is, the one you weren’t currently holding and he was now lacing his fingers through- and swiped his thumb across your cheekbone, trailing back and forth under your eye, down your cheek and across your lips, you couldn’t say it. You couldn’t just open your mouth and tell him that he means everything to you, too. And you almost thought about forgoing the words altogether and just kissing him for christ’s sake, but you were too shocked to move.
Suddenly, Alma Madrigal’s commanding voice rang out amongst the cavern walls of Bruno’s room as she called for her only son in disappointment of his ‘failed’ vision for señor Alvarez. You both shook yourselves back into focus, breaking the reverie, and you avoided looking at each other, all physical contact ceasing at a moment’s notice.
As you exited the cave together, you weren’t sure how to proceed as Bruno’s friend anymore. He would never be just your friend again, but at the same time you weren’t sure if that’s all you were to him or not. What if you had interpreted that moment wrong? What if he just cared about you, and that was that? What if he wasn’t in love with you like you were in love with him?
And as more time ticked away, you felt yourself falling further and further away from the idea that you and Bruno would eventually grow to be romantically involved. Surely, you thought, if something were to happen, it would have already. Too many years had passed. The of both of you were nearing 40 at this point, something should have happened between you. And yet, at the same time, you thought if he hadn’t loved you, at least a little, why hadn’t he gone after someone else? As much as he sometimes frightened the town with his visions, Bruno wasn’t completely hopeless in the love and sex department. He was an attractive man, and there were certainly plenty of people that would still want to be with him. Unlike Bruno, you weren’t oblivious to the attention he’d get from admirers, you knew he could find a partner should he want one, so why he hadn’t found one was a mystery to you. Unless…
He was in love with you too?
It was the night of Mirabel’s gift ceremony. It was a joyous night, with lots of laughter and food and drinks and dancing. Camilo’s ceremony had gone so well, and the Encanto was ready for another night of success. You were ready for success too. You were ready to tell Bruno, no matter the outcome. Should he love you too, great. Should your feelings go unrequited, well, you figured you and Bruno were good enough friends at that point that you could recover from that and move on from your awkward confession. You laughed with Pepa and Julieta so vibrantly before the ceremony; they told you they hadn’t seen you so open and carefree in so long. When they asked you as to why, you told them the truth- you were going to tell Bruno you loved him after Mirabel opened her door (you didn’t want to take Bruno’s attention off of Mirabel before her big moment). Smiles broke out onto their faces as they hugged you and welcomed you, finally and fully into La Familia Madrigal. They assured you that Bruno had been wanting to confess the same to you for so long, they were sure of it. After all, you did things with Bruno you didn’t do with your other friends.
As Alma called for the masses to gather round the staircase to begin the ceremony, you found yourself in a state of peace. A weight was being lifted off your shoulders with each step the young Madrigal took towards her new door. All she had to do was open it, and you’d be able to come clean to Bruno. But interestingly enough, Mirabel didn’t open the door. She couldn’t, as the door blackened and withered away to ash. And the weight came crashing right back down on top of you in an instant. The people around you scrambled and talked and worried and through it all you were numb to it. You thought it was selfish of yourself that your only thought that bounced around your head was, this is a bad omen for me, even as the Madrigals rushed to console a teary-eyed Mirabel, ushering her back into her old room and sending her sisters and cousins to bed. Alma wasted no time descending down the stairs in an attempt to ease the minds of the citizens of the Encanto that “the magic was strong.”
A sobering statement, considering that for the first time since its creation, the miracle failed. The guests around you started trickling out a handful at a time, after placing their worries and grievances with Alma. But you couldn’t move. You knew you should’ve just headed home, that this was a family matter, but something in you rooted you to your spot. The matriarch didn’t seem to mind; in all your time with Bruno, you’d spent more than enough time with her 3 children and her 5 grandchildren to be considered family. She’d known for long enough that one day she’d be able to call you her in-law, and she offered you a sympathetic smile and a pat on the shoulder as she passed by you and back up the stairs to discuss the night’s events with her children waiting in her room.
They talked for hours, or at least, that’s what it felt like, as you sat in the courtyard. The night sky above you was growing darker and darker, until the only light left was that of the stars. At last, Julieta, Pepa, their husbands, and Bruno left Alma’s room, abuzz with the meaning of the night’s scandal. They were too wrapped up with what had happened, and rightfully so, to notice you curled up at the base of the stairs. You didn’t know why you hadn’t left yet, but something had told you to stay; something deep inside your conscience was telling you to wait for Bruno, that you needed to talk to him before it was too late. Too late for what, you didn’t know.
But this something was telling you that if you don’t tell him tonight, you’d never get the chance again. And so you hurled yourself to your feet, and lingered at the bottom of the stairs a minute, gathering and preparing yourself. Was it the right time to tell him, after everything that happened earlier in the evening? Casita seemed to think so, as it pushed your feet up gently with the tiles beneath you, a small encouragement to urge you up the stairs and towards Bruno’s room. With one final deep breath, you started your ascent. You took your time, as with each step you grew more and more nervous.
As you neared the top, the door to Bruno’s room quietly opened as its owner stepped out and down the little hall preceding it. He stopped dead in his tracks as he saw you 3/4s of the way up the stairs, concerned and confused as to why you were still here. Not that he wasn’t happy to see you- he was always happy to see you.
“You’re… still here. It’s late, you should’ve been in bed hours ago,” Bruno nearly whispered as he approached the top of the stairs.
“I know, I know, I need my beauty sleep, but you know me, I’ve never been an ‘early to bed early to rise’ person,” you remarked with a small chuckle. Bruno just let his eyes roam your face, letting the silence wash over him. He was about to leave, but maybe you were a sign to stay? No, he had to leave. He had to protect Mirabel. He had to protect the Encanto. He had to protect you.
Finally, with no amount of joviality or pretence, Bruno spoke.
“You need sleep, but not for beauty.”
Your eyes widened in shock.
“Bruno-“
But he didn’t let you finish. He also had something he needed to tell you; he knew if there was anyone he could trust with the knowledge that he was leaving his family, it was you. It would always be you.
“I’m leaving.”
A beat of silence filled the air.
“What?”
You were flabbergasted. Leaving? To where? Why? Had he had a vision?
“Mama asked me for a vision, and what I saw… it wasn’t good. So I have to go. To protect Mirabel, the Encanto. You.”
You took another step up towards him in disbelief. No. No, this couldn’t be happening. Not when you had been so confident at the start of the evening. Not when you still had so much to say.
“Bruno whatever it is, I’m sure we can figure it out, between you and me we always figure everything out! Or at least take me with you! And your family- oh my god your family- I’m sure-“
“No. No one can know what I saw in that cave. I smashed the vision, I destroyed the bridge at the top of the cavern stairs. No one can find it. No one. I won’t let that happen. And no, I won’t take you with me and uproot you from your life like that. I can’t.” He took a few steps down towards you, and suddenly the two of you were chest to chest as he stood on the stair above yours.
All your breath had been stripped from your lungs, your brain eating up every cubic inch of air as fuel to process what was happening. Eventually, Bruno cupped your face and encouraged your fleeting eyes to focus on him.
“I need you to promise me something.” You couldn’t speak, so you just nodded your head.
“I need you to know- god, promise me you’ll remember- that not a day will go by that I won’t wish you were with me; that everyday, I’ll wake up and plead to skies- the miracle, anything- that you’ll be in my future. No matter what happens, I’ll pray that I’ll get to see you again. In this life or the next. Please, I need you to know that. I need you to know that I-“
But he caught himself before he could say it. Before he could say “I love you.” Even now, when he knew he’d most likely never look into your eyes again, he was too much of a coward to say it. But so were you, and so as his hands dropped to where your shoulders and neck conjoined, all you could do was nod your head, up and down and side to side in a frantic figure-eight motion. You were in too much shock to cry. You were too busy coming to terms with the fact that you were about to lose everything. With one final squeeze of your shoulders, Bruno released you and walked back up the stairs, turning to look at you once he reached the top, before turning and slowly walking away. Your eyes froze on the spot where he had just been. You knew your brain had to do some major catch-up, and as slow as it was it was no where near as lethargic as your heart. But you also knew that you’d never get another chance. You had to say something. You couldn’t let him leave without knowing. You’d never be able to live with yourself if you did. You just had to unfreeze yourself and call out to him before he left. Luckily your body took the wheel from your foggy head.
“Bruno wait!”
When your eyes finally caught up to his form, he was halfway down the hall. He turned his head first towards you, before rotating his body around and walking back towards the top of the stairs.
“Bruno, if this is the last chance I’ll get, I… I have to tell you. I’ll never be able to sleep another night in my life if I don’t.”
Bruno, ever asshole with unrelenting wit, dismally smiled and retorted, “in which case, you might have to start calling it ‘beauty sleep.’”
You shut your eyes in belief. God he was funny, but for once you couldn’t let yourself be distracted by his banter.
“Bruno I-“
You were angry. Why couldn’t you just say it? Why must the words fall short every damn time?
Bruno stepped down one of the stairs, tilting his head forward and to the side, a silent plea for you to continue. You knew he knew what you wanted to say, and lord knows you’d smite him if this was just a plot to toy with you. It wouldn’t be the first. But at that moment, something inside you snapped. All the annoyance at both yourself, him, the world, everything, vanished, and you were left with a sense of blissful emptiness.
Fuck it.
“I love you, Bruno Madrigal. I love you with everything I have. And if this is the last chance I’ll ever get to say it, at least I’ll die knowing that I told you. Because you mean everything to me, too, and you deserve to know.” As you confessed, Bruno once again descended the last few steps towards you, his gaze only once leaving yours to glance at the emerald flower around your neck that reflected the moonlight back into your eyes, a permanent branding that reminded him that you had allowed yourself, all these years, to belong to him.
“I just.. I do, I love you. I can’t say with certainty that I know many things, Bruno Madrigal, but I’m satisfied with the knowledge that no matter what, I’ll always love you, Bruno, and there’s never going to be anyone else that I’ll feel this way for. I don’t need a vision from you to know that.”
Bruno’s face held almost no emotion, only a slight raise to his brows and his lips slightly parted in silent disbelief. As much as you could stare into his eyes, you needed to hear him say something. And finally he did.
“I knew it.”
Wow, you thought as the annoyance flooded back, what an asshole. Hot, ugly tears start to escape from the confines of your eyelashes and they burned with embarrassment. Serves you right for giving him the benefit of the doubt all those years ago. But he continued.
“I knew you were weird.”
“Bruno, fuck off. I-“
“You are! After all, how could a miracle like you love a harbinger of bad luck like me?” He bemused. Once again, he brought his hands up to rest his warm and calloused palms on the base of your neck.
“But I also knew you were fearless,” he smiles as one of his hands cups the back of your jaw, wiping a stray tear away. “And I’m so, so, fucking glad you are, because if you weren’t, you wouldn’t have loved me, and I don’t know what I would have done with myself all these years.”
“What are you talking about?”
Bruno leaned his forehead against yours, pulling you as close to him as he could without sending the both of you tumbling down the stairs.
“I think… I’m talking about how I’ve won this game of chess?”
And suddenly, all the puzzle pieces throughout the years clicked together, 35 years worth of annoyance and indifference and friendship and love all coming together at this moment to propel the both of you into each other. And as your lips met, for the first and last time, nothing and everything mattered, all at once and not at all. As your lips parted and his tongue met yours, you knew that you’d never be able to let anyone kiss you again. Not after this. After all, you didn’t do this sort of thing with your other friends. It would only ever be Bruno’s shoulders and hair that you held onto for dear life, as his hand on your shoulder fell downward to allow his arm to scoop you impossibly closer into him. You knew you’d never love anyone else, ever again, as his tears mixed with yours and your lips and tongues held onto each other for dear life, as to suck every last ounce of adoration and devotion out of each other before you had to say goodbye.
But unfortunately, the future doesn’t wait. Bruno’s gift never would allow him to forget that. And after a few more wet kisses peppered across each others lips, you and Bruno pulled apart, taking one last moment to memorise each other’s eyes.
“If you’re ever in the Encanto again, look me up,” you quipped, and Bruno offered you one of those blissful and contented smiles he always seemed to have when the two of you would banter. But this one, you knew you’d never forget, because while his lips offered joy, his eyes protruded devastation, and you knew you’d never be able to erase his face in that moment from your mind, and you were okay with that.
“I promise if I ever see you again, I’m taking you to the father to have us married,” he says with no lace of pretence.
“After one kiss? Not one to waste time, I see,” you chortle.
He only shakes his head before pulling away from you completely. It left you feeling empty and cold, despite the humid air and the heat of his body still lingering on yours.
“I’ve already wasted enough time loving you on my own, I refuse to waste a second more.”
And with a pair of heartbroken smiles, casita gently rolled the stairs beneath your feet, carrying you down to the courtyard. You took one last look up to your fallen prince.
“I love you, Bruno.”
“I love you too.”
As your tear ducts finally ran empty, you turned around towards the front doors of La Casa Madrigal and opened them.
“Goodbye, Bruno Madrigal.”
Had you looked back as you left, you would’ve seen the fallen prince open the portrait in the walls. But you were one stubborn idiot, and you didn’t look back.
Emotional Jumpstart
Pepa Madrigal x gn!reader(platonic to familial)
Time travel + pacemaker + weather control = adoption, apparently!
Reader is in their late teens, btw!
---
You knew you shouldn't have volunteered in that time portal project. You should've just turned around and walked away! Too late for that now.
Thankfully the fall from the portal wasn't too far. However it was still out of reach, especially since it closed behind you, meaning something failed on the other side. Damn.
Welp. Until the guys back home figure out what the hell went wrong and can fix the portal generator, you're stuck whenever and wherever you are. So, you decide to look around.
Let's see... vague 20th century Columbian apparel, wood/stone housing, mountains all around. Okay, you can work with this.
Then you remember that you have a pacemaker. A small device in your chest that keeps your heart going. How long will that last?
You check your chargometer, a wrist-worn device linked to the pacemaker to tell you how much battery it has left: Less than a month.
Not good, but it could be worse.
---
You spent the first couple days acclimatizing yourself to 20th century Columbia: Swapping out your modern attire(Which out promptly burned even though you really liked it) for clothes of the era(though you kept the chargeometer), your Latine heritige came in handy, as you were already fluent in Spanish, despite being born in the U.S. And making a sort of name for yourself in the town as a diligent worker.
Over the first week, you bump into and get to know a member of a very important family to the town: Pepa Madrigal. It was a shock how much you two had in common though you were born a century apart!
When she mentioned her gift, you had pause. A stray bolt of lightning could short your pacemaker, but that didn't stop you from hanging out with her when you two had some free time.
In the week after that, your pacemaker began to falter, and you with it. You kept up as best you could, but time was not on your side. It would keep marching with or without you. Pepa, however, hasn't noticed yet.
In the next week, you looked back on your life and you realize a few things: 1.) Your parents, thought they raised you and kept you alive until you could move out, never truly loved you. 2.) If the team was indeed working to bring you back, a second portal would've opened as soon as you arrived to pull you back through. 3.) Despite the previous two, you finally have someone in your life who, at the very least, loves being with you. 4.) You need to come clean to Pepa before it's too late.
Your last week finds you in the Madrigal house, sharing the house's nursery with Mirabel. Julieta spending her every waking moment trying to heal you through her cooking to little avail. Late one night, you'd asked the house to bring Pepa to you, unsure if it would respond.
To your surprise, minutes later, there was a knock on the door.
"Y/n? Everything okay?" You could hear Pepa's voice behind the door.
The door opened quietly, as not to disturb your roommate. You saw Pepa in a peach nightgown, a cloud was growing above her head.
"Y/n?"
"Pepa..." You breathed, "I need to tell you something."
"What is it?" She asked, as she quietly paced over to beside your cot.
Then you told her everything. Your birth family, the time portal, your pacemaker, all of it. You then confessed that, if you were longer for this world, you'd be happy to have the woman as your mother.
Tears were in her eyes now, the cloud above her head threatening to thunder, "And I would've loved to have you as my child."
She leant down to hug you, but you felt yourself drifting off to the sound of your chargometer signaling critical low...
...
...
...
Then you awoke to a sudden jolt of heat coursing through your entire body.
You took a deep breath, than another, you put a hand to your chest, it was bare now, with a horrible burn where your pacemaker is, or... Was.
Your every move felt... stronger. Your very breath like a hurricane as it surged in and out of your lungs. Your heart was beating a mile a minute.
You looked up at Pepa, who had covered to mouth to stifle sobs and was now in shock herself. You saw Mirabel behind her, sitting up in bed also, her drowsy mind probably wondering what the hell just happened.
After a few minutes of silence, Pepa speaks up first, "...Would you still have me as your mother, y/n?"
You answered her by leaping(yes, leaping) from the bed and embracing her, knocking her onto Mirabel's bed.
"Oh, COME ON, you two!" She falls against her pillow, muttering something about how it's never a dull moment in La Casa Madrigal.
In the morning, you enjoy a breakfast feast as Y/n Madrigal.
STOP THIS IS RHE CUTEST THING EVER IM CRYING😭😭 LITERALLY TEARY EYES AS IM TYPING THIS ITS SO ADORABLE☹️☹️ i loved the angst omg and then it became a happy ending which is so good and then you ended it perfectly and just pepa shocking reader back to life was so genius ahh!!! i love this sm, beautifully written
(Okay i had this idea bare with me)
Speedy
(bruno madrigal x reader part one)
Tumblr media
~~~3rd person p.o.v~~~
{The past Bruno,pepa,Julieta are 14 and you are 13}
The girls feet roughly hit the paved stone ground as she ran, kicking up dust as she ran.
"STOP! THEFE!(cant fucking spell)" a man yelled as he watched the girl race down the streets with arm fulls of food she had just stolen from his store.
"Ha Ha!" The girl laughed as she curved into a small, isolated part of the town.
"Another point to y/n..another lose for the senor baker" y/n laughed out as she shoved a pastry into her mouth and flopped down on the grassy ground.
The girl smiled...maybe it wasnt bad her father died and her mother left...maybe it opened up a chance for her.
"Abuela! Come!" A female child's voice rang out causing Y/n to jump rahter harshly.
Y/n dropped all the bagged food and hopped into a bush, the Apple pastry still in her mouth.
The girl waiting in the bush....waiting for the people to pass by.
Then...four people walked from the distance, a older lady in a deep pink ankle length dress and three children, two girls and one boy.
Y/n narrowed her eyes and bit into the pie, watching them.
"Huh?" The boy muttered as his eyes landed on the bagged food just laying on the floor untouched.
The child let go of his sisters hand and waddled over to the food, his head tilted to the side, making his short curly hair fall gracefully on his face.
Y/n backed up a bit as the boy stood right infront of the bush she was hiding in, causing the bush to rattle and shake.
Her breath hitched as the boy sat down, and soon...his dark eyes locked onto her e/c ones.
"Who....are you?" The boy asked as he tried to reach his hand into the bush to the girl.
Y/n squeaked and jumped up, leaves tangled in her hair and on her clothes..but she didnt care...all she did was ran. Not looking back at the boy and the other three...she just didnt want to get caught.
The boys brows nitted togeather as he watched the girl run, her h/l h/c hair whooshing behind her.
"Bruno...what are you doing?" A girl with her curly dark hair tied into a small bun asked as she plopped down next her her brother.
"I saw a girl Julieta" Bruno muttered as he watched y/n's tiny figure disappear into the town where she had ran from.
"What ever you say" Julieta muttered as she laid back on the grass ignoring her brother and her sister.
~~~Later that day~~~
^^^y/n P.o.v^^^
The sun had set behind the Columbian moutains and I kept my eyes locked onto a multiple story house with many windows and doors...the house looked easy enough to break into.
"Alright i can do this" i let out a sigh as i stood up and pulled my black hood over my head and ran, my foot steps making no noise on the grass.
I ran to the side of the house and latched onto a latter that hung right onto a window. The house shuttered as i climbed up the steps and into a open window.
"See easy" i muttered to myself with a smile...this family must be loaded with how big there house was!
I snuck around, casually pocketing things and watching and looking down the flights of stairs, making sure no one was watching.
I smiled ear to ear as i stumbled upon a door two doors...each with a girl on them.
"Julieta...Pepa" i muttered as i traced the pads of my fingers over the doors and kept walking..thats when i stumbled upon another door.
the door glowed with magic and light...it was like the others..just...minus the name and carving of the owner of the room.
I slowly reached my hand out to the glowing knob but then...something odd happened.
The floor tiles shook and turned, loosing the floor and waving me backwards.
"Waht the hell?!" I muttered as my eyes went wide with fear.
I stumbled back.
"Who are you? What are you doing?" Child's voice rang out beside me.
i let out scream as my eyes locked onto a pair of glowing green ones.
I stumbled back more not realizing how close i was to the steps.
I felt air wrap around my body as the steps collided with my body, brusing my body all over till i hit the floor.
Blood trickled from my nose and im pretty sure i broke my leg..this place had no right to have so many stairs and a weird eyed boy or a weird house.
"Pepa! Julieta! Abuela!" The boy yelled as he rushed down the stairs to my side, his eyes now a chocolatey brown yet laced with consern.
I groaned slightly as he placed his hand on the side of my face.
"What is it?!" A girl in a yellow nightgown yelled as she rushed down the stairs, stopping when she saw me...a small cloud appeared over her head as she raked her eyes over me.
"What happened who is this?!" The girl yelled as two more people rushed down stairs.
" I um...i think she broke in! She went to a..new door? Tried to touch it and La Casita 'accidently threw her off the stairs!" The boy cried out.
I gritted my teeth as i pushed myself away from the four people...one of which looked mad.
"You broke into my house! To steal the gifts didnt you!?" The older lady screeched out at me.
i closed my eyes and put my weak arms up in defence, thinking id get hit. "Dont hurt me! Im sorry! Just let me leave and ill put everything back!" I yelled, feeling tears prickle in my eyes..i have never got caught before.
"Mama calm down! Look at her...shes scared, bruised, and bleeding!" The light haired girl with the thundering cloud above her head ranted on as her eyes flickered from me to the older woman yelling at me.
The older lady looked at the girl and muttered something but I didnt pay attention...i saw this as my get away chance.
i stood on one leg...my other leg already bruising really bad.
"Miss no" a softer spoke girl grabbed onto my wrist and pulled me to her and the boy.
"La Casita hurt you...allow us to help" the girl hooked her arm under me and the boy did the same, they both lifted me up, kepting presser off my shattered leg.
They led me into the kitchen and sat me on a chair.
"Stay..ill bake you up some food thatll heal the broken leg" the girl said with a smile as she gracefully walked off, collecting ingredients.
"So...did you break in?" The curly hair boy asked me as he studied my face.
"Yes....i did....im deeply sorry" i muttered, wiping blood from my nose.
"And im sorry i scared you......." The boy spoke as he looked at me. "Anyway...im Bruno and thatd my twin Julieta! The other girl is Pepa my other sister" Bruno said with a wide smile as he twirled a curl around his finger.
"I-im y/n" i felt the words get stuck in my throat, almost chocking me as i spoke to Bruno.
Then...the mean older lady rushed back in, a stearn look plastered on her face.
"Pepa showed me...there is another door...but no new madrigal's" The lady said as she side eyed me...hoping for a answer.
I bit my lip and my eyes fluttered around..
Why was everything so quiet?
(To be continued in part 2
This was short im sorry)
She treats you as if you are her granddaughter.
Sometimes you two would play and throw flower petals at each other.
Tumblr media
PEPA
as a toddler you were quite observant
you spent a lot of time with your older sister Dolores, you'd play this game with her, where she'd ask you to tell her a story so she could focus on your voice and practice tuning out other sounds
the game went like this
you had to think of a backstory of a random villager
you were quite good at this, you were able to notice things others didn't pay attention to
and later Dolores would hear some of the town's people and she'd be shocked hearing that most of the things you said were more or less true
when you turned the doorknob, the door glowed and everyone went silent as they awaited for the revelation of your gift
Pepa was basically crushing Félix' hands out of nervousness
the thing that broke the silence was your surprised voice
"Woah... Mom, are you actually gonna puke out of nerves? Not on my dress, please."
Pepa's eyes widened, so did your dad's
Abuela gasped
the villagers started whispering
it wasn't until you said "Mind reading? You really think so Isa?" that the realization started to hit
Pepa almost fainted
the first few weeks of you having your gift were... confusing
your má was stressed, because a power like this could be truly troublesome
it didn't help that everyone immediately noticed the similarities this gift shared with Dolores' or Bruno's
it rained for a whole month after your gift ceremony
Pepa decided to stay in with you in Casita, preparing you for potential problems you may face with your new abilities
but she was expecting to be the one doing the talking
turned out you quickly got a hold of this gift
and seeing your mother so stressed, you decided to cheer her up
because she's your mom and no one wants to see their mom sad
you told her how it's okay to feel things
"má, i actually like it when you make it rain, i like puddles"
"you can say clear skies as much as you want to, but don't feel like it's a necessity"
"oh! mabe we can turn it into a song?"
"má, don't cry. i'll tell you if Cami actually destroyed that vase or not if you smile"
Pepa was so relieved, a rainbow appeared over Casita's roof for the first time in days
as the years went by, you were actually doing great
you and Dolores got really close due to the similar problems that came with your gifts that you had to overcome
so, you, Dolores and Pepa would often hang out just the three of you to gossip
Dolores would say the rumor, you’d add some details and Pepa would comment, all this while drinking coffee and painting each other’s nails
sometimes you’d invite tía Julieta just so she and Pepa could feel like teenagers again
you liked having mind reading mainly because of moments like this
sure, the gift was sometimes overwhelming and like Dolores you had to cover your ears and eyes, especially when in a crowd, but more or less you had it under control
what Pepa was worried about was that you didn't turn out to be like your siblings Antonio and Dolores
you turned out to be more of a mischievous kid, like your brother Camilo
and mind reading proved to be useful when messing with people
"you will bring me that plate of arepas or i'll tell everyone you sometimes rub flowers all over yourself instead of showering, Isa"
sure, you were a little devil
but not to your mom
you used your gift to help her come to terms with the chaos in her head
and she let all the other things slide as long as you kept being the momma's kid that you were
and as long as you let her give you embarrassing kisses all over your face without groaning
JULIETA
when you were little Mirabel would take care of you mainly because you shared a room with her
she played games with you like “guess what number i’m thinking of”
9/10 times you got it right, it was honestly a little scary
when you received your gift, Julieta got scared, just like Pepa
but you were no different than your sisters, you were strong, smart and kind
Julieta knew that you’d use your gift for good and that you’ll be wary with it
what she was afraid of was other people and their reaction to the newest addition to the magical family
Julieta’s anxiety was really bad
see, your gift was hardly a blessing, she couldn’t help but compare you to her brother
the one who ran away
and there was nothing scarier to her than losing one of her children, than losing anyone in her family
she prayed that the mind reading wouldn’t be too much for you and that you’ll be okay
the first few years after getting your gift were hard, you were a little kid with the ability to know what everyone around you is thinking
some people were scared of you and so were some children, you quickly became an outcast among children your age
to be fair, who wanted to play games with a child who’d know your every move?
Julieta was afraid that you’ll grow into a fragile and scared person because of that, she didn’t want you to be lonely, so she would take you by your hand, swinging it back and forth, and take you to the kitchen
sometimes you’d help, sometimes you’d just sit and watch
“má, you already added the salt” you’d sometimes say even though Julieta didn’t say anything
“the spatula is on that counter”
“we had arepas yesterday, let’s make something different tonight”
Julieta always found you adorable while doing this, she would chuckle and ruffle your hair
but if you talked too much, she would stuff an empanada in your mouth
and one time you said this “mamá, i’m not lonely”
Julieta almost dropped the dough she was holding
“i have three older sisters” you continued “and a prima and two primos, also tía Pepa, tío Bruno, tío Félix, pá, abuela… and you”
“that’s like” you stopped to count in your fingers “twelve people! that’s so many, i would honestly be fine with less”
Julieta hugged you and laughed
and with that laugh, all her worries went away
it was true, you had your family who loved you, and just like you, knew the struggles of having a magical gift
who needed normal friends when you had a whole house (and a house itself) full of people like you?
you were close to Dolores, but not because she helps you with handling your power
it was because you were helping her
see, it turned out that all of Julieta’s kids’ main quality was putting others over oneself
you were a bright kid, you quickly figured out how to take full control over your gift
Dolores, despite being older, could only find peace in her soundproof room, you hated seeing her cover her ears, wince when someone would laugh, clap with her index fingers
you taught her how to tune out all the noises
you two would sit in your room, you’d grab Dolores’ hands and you’d start talking
about nothing in particular, maybe about your day or something that Mirabel had done
Dolores’ job was to listen and focus
“and then she fell down into that puddle- see? it’s working!- and her whole skirt was soaked” you said mid-sentence as you noticed Dolores’ mind clear up, your story being the only thing she could think about
Julieta was so proud, but hoped that you’d let yourself be helped as well
and it turned out you would
teenage years were hard for you, especially when you could literally hear all the thoughts the kids your age had
and we know that teenagers’ minds can be dark, weird, disturbing places
you’d spent your time in the kitchen with your mom, like the old times, and you’d talk and talk and talk
and that was how she helped you, with nothing specific, just mother’s love
Its Quiet Uptown
Tumblr media
︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻⋆︻
Pairing:Madrigal family X Reader
A/N: I cried when writing this, thats how you know its good
Based on the song “It's Quiet Uptown”. Reader was a friend of the madrigals
Summary:The aftermath of The readers death, and how it affected the madrigals
Genre:Angst
Content Warnings: Mentions of drowning and death
Requested?: Nope!
︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼⋆︼
“There are moments that the words don't reach
There is suffering too terrible to name
You hold your child as tight as you can
And push away the unimaginable
The moments when you're in so deep
It feels easier to just swim down
The [Madrigals] move uptown
And learn to live with the unimaginable”
After your passing, and subsequent funeral, the village of Encanto felt less vibrant than before. Your death was seemingly inevitable,You drowned. Dolores heard your cries, and even though the family rushed to your aide, they were all too late. Even though they tried Julieta’s cooking couldn't save you, they were only a moment too late. The burden of guilt weighed heavy on the shoulders of Dolores and Julieta. Maybe if Dolores tuned into your thrashing a few moments earlier, or maybe if Julieta was the first there, maybe you would still be walking amongst them. You could have maybe even been able to see your daughter grow.
You were buried in the Village’s graveyard, with all the other dead. And the madrigals visited very often. Isabella would sit with your grave, leaving small plants and flowers. Luisa would come by as the stars started to shine, and she would talk to you, about her day and everything going on. Mirabel would bring your daughter and would tell her stories from your past, stories you told her. Julieta would steal away in the early hours of the morning to set a small plate of food atop your gravestone. Pepa and Felix would visit every Sunday with Dolores, a visit that always had to be cut short. Antonio had left his tiger stuffed animal, he had said you needed it more.Bruno tried his hardest to keep the family going for you, its what you would have wanted . Camilo rarely visited your actual grave, as it brought up to many emotions for him to handle, instead he would tell the towns children the stories you would tel them from your travels. And Alma, the woman who helped your family all those years ago, felt like she lost a part of herself all over again. The family took your daughter in after your passing, she was only two years old. They cared for the little girl like she was their own flesh and blood. Your little girl was all they had left of you, after all.
“Tía?” the little girl asked, her voice soft “Where mamá?”. Her soft {colour} eyes trained on Pepa. A soft, grey storm cloud formed above pepa’s head as she knealed, getting on the level of the little girl. “Your mamá is with your papá, princesa” she explained, smoothing the little girls hair back with a single hand. “When will they come back?” the child inquired. The storm grew a bit stronger, Felix layed a hand on his wifes shoulder to comfort her. “I don't know,princesa, i dont know”
“There are moments that the words don't reach
There's a grace too powerful to name
We push away what we can never understand
We push away the unimaginable”
It had been three years after your untimely end, and your baby grew. She resembled you so much. It was a miracle all on its own when she was gifted a power of her own, something the madrigals didn't expect at all. She was gifted the ability to see the dead.The little girl brushed past a doorway, only to catch a glimpse of your tired expression, your frame clinging onto that of your husbands. You mouthed a few words to the little girl before your forms disappeared.
“I'm proud of you,mi vida”
The Madrigals had been more of a family to you than your own flesh and blood, what happens when your own family wants to take advantage of that? Platonic! Madrigal Family x Gender Neutral! reader
masterlist !! part 2 is here!
requested by @frogbe
Tumblr media
You’ve always struggled fitting in with your own family. If you could even call them that. You were always the odd one out, left behind and forgotten by those that you considered loved ones.
You couldn’t blame them though. You were a curse, a stain on your family’s name. All because your father had knocked up the maid while he was married. At your birth, you were quickly abandoned by your mother who had insisted on leaving the village of Encanto, unable to bear the shame of bearing a bastard child as well as the fact that you had reminded her of your father, now dead in the ditch after gambling away his life savings. And so you were left on the doorsteps of your grandfather’s home.
He had begrudgingly taken you in, though not because he wanted to. Far from it. You were there so his family could look and feel good about themselves. You existed to make them look better.
The citizens of Encanto knew none the wiser. To them, from the outside looking in, your ‘family’ was kind to clothe you, feed you, and treat you like their own.
Your grandfather’s family never paid enough attention to you, however. Not even when you were starving and wandered the streets of Encanto, rummaging through rubbish and taking what you can get. You’d often be seen eyeing the different shops’ displays or even eating leftovers someone had just recently left. You were left to fend for yourself and somehow, you were okay with that.
Though you would soon find out there was a home somewhere in Encanto for you. They weren’t of your blood but they had treated you as such. With loving smiles and caring touches, your home was with the Madrigals.
And then you heard from a little grapevine that Julieta Madrigal often had leftover food from all the cooking she did for her healing. Though you weren’t exactly that well versed with the Madrigals. On the contrary, your grandfather forbade you from interacting with them.
“You stay away from the Madrigals, pendejo. You’ll only make a mockery of our name.” They would say in disgust when you would ask them about the amazing Madrigals. Each time you showed curiosity about them, you were always shut down and pushed away. So you stopped the questions.
Though you would often hear Mirabel, or as your grandfather liked to call her, ‘No Miracle Mirabel’, sing about her family and you couldn’t help but stare in awe from far away, scurrying off to continue the errands that no child your age should’ve been doing after she was done. Lifting things half your size and running around town, you were basically the family’s errand child.
Though as your stomach grumbled, you figured looking for those leftovers in the Madrigal rubbish bins was better than coming home and eating nothing. So off you went, looking around and sneaking onto the hill that Casita was perched upon.
You were a minute into raking through the trash and eating bits of stale candies and pastries here and there before you heard a ‘hm’. You lifted your head up quickly, banging the back of your head on the lid of the rubbish bin you were scavenging in and then suddenly passing out.
Dolores was only curious. She hadn’t expected you to be so startled that you had managed to hurt yourself and faint in the process. “Ay, I killed her!” She exclaims as she quickly rushes forward, taking you into her arms. The commotion had woken up the family who had quickly rushed to see Dolores with a child in her arms.
Camilo would gasp dramatically. “You killed them..” He would then be swiftly elbowed by his papá Felix and would get a shake of his head in disapproval. “What? I can’t say she killed them? What is that? Not alive.”
“They’re still alive, tonto!” Dolores had huffed at her brother before Pepa came rushing over with Julieta who had quickly checked you over, taking out some arepas from her pocket. She had emergency arepas, just in case.
You would stirr at the yelling, eyes fluttering open to gaze at Julieta who offered you a gentle smile as you winced, head pounding. She would part your lips before placing the arepa near.
“Here, you’ll feel better when you eat this.” Sniffing at the arepa, you couldn’t help but notice that this one didn’t have the smell of trash or rot in it. You don't need to be told twice as you open your mouth wide. Julieta didn’t expect you to take it all in one big bite! She was thinking of a small bite! Small! You practically inhaled the arepa in her hands.
It didn’t take long for you to feel much better though.
“Can I.. Can I have some more..?” That, my dear, was the exact moment all of the Madrigals had decided in their minds that you were family.
All your days after that would be spent more and more in the Madrigal house. They insisted on you coming over after you were done with your chores and errands. Suddenly you understood why the amazing Madrigals got their name. They were amazing.
Abuela Alma would often gently pull you aside and fix your untamed hair when she saw you in the streets, asking some of her grandchildren to help you out when they saw you. You would protest heavily of course but she would shake her head at you.
Julieta and Pepa doted on you. They had taken it upon themselves to share the motherly duties when it came to you. You would almost always be carrying a mochilas filled with empanadas, your favorite. Julieta and Pepa would team up with Mirabel to get you new clothes and they embroidered designs that symbolized all of the Madrigal family in a beautiful pattern on your clothing.
Agustin and Felix? Best dads ever. They were both protective of you, however. When they caught wind that your grandfather was treating you badly again, they had almost knocked down his door. You had to beg them to refrain from doing so.
After all, your grandfather was still family.. right?
You would find yourself whisked away and hanging out with the girls of the Madrigal family. You were a baby. Though you were a few years younger than Mirabel, you were still a baby in their eyes. Isabela would almost always make your favorite flowers, showering you with them when you were having a bad day.
Luisa would often ask you to confide in her. She was technically your big sister now too. And despite your protests of not wanting her to carry your burden, she would shake her head. Leave it all to her, she would say.
“That’s what big sisters are for.” And the two of you would tear up and hug one another, sobbing at how you appreciated each other.
Mirabel would often embroider designs on your clothings, and would even make matching sets but tailored for more of your style and convenience. She even got you those mochilas you used to carry your food around with. She embroidered your initials on every belonging that you had.
Camilo and you were a very unlikely duo. He was a troublemaker, you were not. He was confident and loud, you were not. But somehow, for some reason, you get roped into his shenanigans.
“Psst, (Name), you got any more arepas from Tia Julieta?” Yeah, Camilo Madrigal uses you to get more food. And you don’t mind, you were given so many everyday anyways.
He would often try to run around and be you for a change since you almost always got into no trouble. Once in your form, he had managed to break a vase and he had expected to be scolded severely but instead, they didn’t even bat an eye.
“Our little (Name) can do no wrong, the vase was broken already when it got there.”
Antonio had taken a liking to you too, calling you big sister/ brother often and had made sure to keep you safe, sometimes asking his little animal friends to keep an eye out for you. The rats in your grandfather’s walls happily did that though as you were known for feeding them from time to time.
Tio Bruno was a bit more distant at first. He was sure you would be frightened by him but you had happily asked to watch his rats perform when Mirabel brought the topic up. Soon enough you had your own role in his plays, you would play the little mice that Bruno has casted as the main rat leads’ children.
You would ask for a vision once and he was afraid of scaring you off so he had declined at first, only for you to reassure him that he could never scare you off.
But he didn’t budge. He was still working on not being frightened of doing visions. And you understood that.
Though your grandfather had caught wind of your closeness with the Madrigals. After a long day of doing his errands, he was waiting in front of the door as you opened it, a disgustingly sweet smile on his face.
He treated you better tonight. He had asked you to join him and his family for dinner. Your uncles and aunts are scrutinizing and gazing at you intensely.
“So, you and the Madrigals..” He says after a moment of silence. “It turns out you aren’t as stupid as you look.” He smiled crookedly. “Good.”
You expected to be scolded but your eyes had widened as for the first time ever he had praised you. But you should’ve known better than that.
“We can use that, (Name). You can use that to our advantage.” He murmurs with a smile. “Stick with them, take advantage of their kindness.. they’re a very respected family and associating with them is a very fortunate opportunity.”
And you stand in your seat, swallowing thickly as all eyes are on you. You trembled but you couldn’t let your grandfather think that you were doing this for something to gain. You mustered up the courage, stammering.
“No.” And for a moment again everything was silent.
“No?” He says in a scarily calm tone and you feel your body stiffen.
“You forget yourself. I was kind enough to keep you in, you see. I fed you, clothed you, I made you.” He had roared. “And without me, listen carefully, without me you are nothing!” The harsh words stung and you had to remind yourself to keep breathing.
“Without me you won’t be standing here right now, pendejo.” And even though you didn’t want to believe him, a small part of you thought so too.
And you clenched your fists. “I won’t do what you ask of me.” You gazed up at your grandfather defiantly. “I.. The Madrigals are more family to me than you’ve ever been. I don’t want.. I don’t want to use them for your own sick gain.”
Your grandfather was silent before he sat back in his chair. “Is that so? Then go live with them. You think they’ll take you in? You’ll see that they’re just like me, I took you in out of pity. They don’t love you. They’re only saving face, plastering fake smiles. I thought you were smarter than that. You’re a bigger fool than your whore of a mother who left you to die on our doorsteps.”
Your lower lip trembled and before you could say another word, you were thrown out by your aunt at your grandfather’s request. The clothes that Mirabel had worked hard on to embroider now muddy as rain began to fall on your small frame.
"You'll come back, you'll see." Were the last words your grandfather had said to you before slamming the doors on your face.
Hiccuping, you try to gather your thoughts, gazing at the hill where Casita was. What if he was right? What if they did it just out of pity? What if they were just using you again?
Your feet carried you to Casita’s front lawn and before you could say a word, just like all those months before, Dolores found you. You ran into her arms, sobbing as you held on tight. The rest of the family had come out to hug you as well, whispering sweet nothings.
She heard and she couldn’t help but tell the family. Pepa had both been heartbroken and angry that someone could say such cruel things to a child. The rain that had messed up your clothes? She’d apologize later.
Julieta was rolling up her sleeves, rolling pin in hand as Agustin tried to reason with his wife.
“Julieta, mi amor, we can’t. Me and Felix found a few unattended bees’ nests in the forest, we can use that instead.” He would nod solemnly as Felix had enthusiastically nodded beside him. “They wouldn’t even know it was us! In and out job.” He reassures both Julieta and Pepa.
The Madrigal grandkids just held you tight, with Isabela plotting to fill your grandfather’s garden with sundews and cacti. Luisa planned on just letting the donkeys around town roam his home. Maybe even make it the donkeys’ own litter box. Camilo, the menace that he was, was already thinking of ways he can make their life inconvenient. And sweet Antonio had asked the rats to chew their clothes up.
Abuela and Tio Bruno were the last one to approach, gently cupping your cheeks in her frail hands, thumbs gently wiping away the tears that continued to fall from your eyes.
“Shh, nieta/ nieto. You’ll be okay. You’re okay..” And you purse your lips. “How are you so sure..?” It had felt the world was against you.
Bruno placed a gentle hand on your shoulder, placing an unfamiliar green slab in your hands. And it took you a while to know what it was or what was depicted on it. It was his vision slab and you were on it.
“Because you’re home, (Name).” And you didn’t know why he said that but as you look down, you had an inkling of an idea.
It was you, smiling so brightly and happily with the Madrigals and Casita behind you. And although no other words were said, you gazed up at the faces of the family that you considered your own.
“Welcome home, (Name).” They said with a smile and you couldn’t help but smile as well.
“I’m home.”
@simpforjesus I have a Bruno x female reader request/idea. What if before he disappeared, Bruno was in a secret romantic relationship with the reader. They are madly in love and are constantly meeting in secret and Bruno keeps using his gift every day to see if they will get caught because he's afraid that if people knew they would shun the reader. Before he disappeared he and the reader secretly get married and he takes her with him and when he is reunited with his family, he introduces her and their child
Ooh yes! So I changed it slightly. So when Maribel had her gift ceremony Bruno was 40. Making y/n 39. Making him 50 when he met Maribel 10 years later and y/n 49.
Tumblr media
Bruno and (Y/n) were madly in love with each other. Despite the fact that he was in his fourties’ when they began their relationship. They loved each other more than anything. Meeting each other in secret constantly because the towns people already didn’t speak highly of him, and if her family finds out about their relationship they’d force them apart.
Bruno bit his finger nails nervously, to the point they began to bleed. “B-Bruno?!” She exclaimed. Taking ahold of his hands and reaching into her satchel. Grabbing the cloth and wrapping it around his finger tips, “Be more careful mi amour,” she whispered. Kissing him on the lips.
“Bruno, what’s wrong?” She asked calmly, placing her hand on his cheek and gently caressing it. He looked down not saying a word his a family didn’t shun him, he wanted to leave on his own terms to protect Mirabel from the vision he had.
But he didn’t wanna leave his family behind, “Marry me!” He exclaimed, holding her hands in his own. She gasped looking at him in shock, “R-Really? Y-You want me to marry you?!” She stammered in shock.
He nodded, “W-Where would we live?” She asked curiously, staring into his eyes. Bruno didn’t know where they’d live maybe in their own house, in the country side near the house. No.. he wanted to check on his family.
Maybe secretly in his room? No all those stairs, well they could make a pulley system but he can’t watch over his family that way. He began to think..
“You remember that secret room I showed you in the house?” He asked. She nodded remembering seeing that room, the room where they’d sometime spend moment in each other’s arms without worrying about the family finding out.
“We live in there? B-But Bruno.” She sighed, unknowingly. Turning towards her lover, “I know it isn’t ideal. B-But I want to keep an eye on my family. From a distance. Behind the walls to be exact.” He said, she placed her hand on his cheek and smiled.
“Okay, It’s not ideal but if you want to watch over your family. Then I’ll be there with you to help.” She giggled. Kiss him on his nose, then wrapping her arms around him tackling him to the ground.
“Yes! I will marry you!” She exclaimed. Kissing him all over his face while laughing. Not longer after they got married in secret doing their own vows, it wasn’t anything extravagant but it was the best day of their lives.
(A/n: living in the walls in sorta impossible trying to keep them quiet)
So Bruno would use his gift to see into the future if they’d ever get caught. And luckily they didn’t except the fact that Dolores knew they were in the walls the entire time for ten years.
(Also yes Dolores did hear them doing the deed)
(Y/n) walked towards the Madrigal family. While holding the hand of their five year old son, Pedro. For whom they named after Bruno and his triplet sisters father.
“A-ah, this is um?” Bruno stammered, nervously. His wife placed her hand on his shoulder encouragingly, giving him a warm smile.
“This is my wife Y/n, and our son Pedro.” He said, and everyone’s eyes widened and mouth dropped.
“I knew they were there the entire time,” Dolores said.
“H-Hello,” (Y/n) said nervously, picking up her son.
“H-Hi.” Pedro exclaimed, sheepishly. Julieta and Pepa hugged Bruno, and then pulled (Y/n) and Pedro into the hug.
Bruno being welcomed back into the family. His wife and child being welcomed into the family. Pedro already had the entire family wrapped around his tiny little finger, he looked just like his father.
When helping rebuild Casita (Y/n) got to know the family more, and grew strong bonds with everyone. Pedro played with Antonio and Abuela would, sometimes tickle little Pedro sometimes seeing her late husband in his eyes.
Bruno was so nervous introducing his family to his own. Not knowing if they’d even accept them into the family. But he was happy that his thoughts were wrong.
When you had found out you were pregnant you had tried to keep quiet about it. With Bruno's disappearance still aching, you had hoped to keep the news for a later time. But as fate would have it, the news broke. Little Dolores could hear you speak to someone, and once you said Mija, along with the morning sickness, the little ten years out figured it out and ran to tell Pepa.
Even though it had been five years, you were still getting used to Dolores being able to hear everything. Pepa, then ran to Julieta and then to you. Each of them knew what it was like to have children, and the news was wonderful! But the two sisters had their family, had their husbands to help them through the aches and pains.
And though you did have your own family, and the Madrigals...it wasn't the same without Bruno. Regardless if it was a way for you to cope, the hormones and such, you allowed yourself to believe that your husband had been out there somewhere. You believed that he would come back. So that you could tell him. But you hadn't realized how wrong you were.
Soon enough the word of your pregnancy spread through the house, and the family was more than thrilled. A new child for the family. And despite the circumstances, they knew it was good for you too. To take your mind off everything and to focus on your baby. You started to think of names and prepare clothes and such.
What you hadn’t known was that Bruno was listening through the walls. Watching through the crack in the wall in the dining room, watching you deal with his loss. It broke his heart to know you were carrying his child. To know you were dealing with this on your own.
He wanted nothing more than to break out of the walls of Casita, and hold you and his baby close. But he couldn't. He couldn't expose the vision he saw, and it had been a month at that point. How would he even begin to explain? How angry, heartbroken you would be. He loved you...you and your baby. But in order to protect you both, he needed to remain hidden, away.
With a broken heart, he would watch and listen from the cracks as your stomach began to grow with his own little baby. He still couldn't believe it. He cried many nights with the weight of guilt on his chest from doing this to you both. To his familia. But it had to be done. He hoped one day when he would eventually return, that you would understand that at least.
And you tried to. At night laying in your own room that Casita provided just for you so you didn't have to return to Bruno's old room. Bruno's spot next to you had lost the smell of him, and you never felt more alone. You began to imagine what it must have been like for Alma when she raised the triplets on her own.
But despite it, you tried to think of reasons why Bruno could have left. Maybe you had done something? Said something? Did you miss a sign? Bruno seemed perfectly fine when you had last seen him. You were at a loss. Shaking your head, you placed your hand on your stomach. You had to focus on your baby now, not someone who didn't care enough to leave a note before disappearing.
And as the months grew, the excitement of having a new baby around did as well. You had ensured Julieta as your baby's Godparent in case anything was to happen to you. It wasn't likely, but just in case. She was more than thrilled to, and little Mirabel was excited to have another cousin as well.
Alma was happy you stayed around after Bruno had left. She had worried that you would return to your family home afterward, but after you reassure her you would be staying she held you close. You were always too good. Sometimes you saw differently on topics, but she adored you all the same. You were perfect. And hoped you would make Bruno perfect too.
As your due date grew near, you were larger than when Pepa and Julieta were pregnant, but perhaps it was just a good sign of a healthy baby. She helped you set up the nursery in your small room. It was just a simple room, similar to the one you had at your own family home. The dresser was filled with baby clothes, and you were ready.
You had casita, the whole Madrigal family AND your own family in town. You weren't alone. So why did it feel like you still were? It had been nine months and after searching for weeks there was no sign of him anywhere. Had he left the Encanto? Was he alright? Was he still alive? You had no answers. Sometimes you still had dreams about him. About your family coming back together.
One night your dream was interrupted by the worst pain you had felt in your entire life, causing you to let out a small scream as you woke up out of your sleep. Panting you sat up slightly, dampness had come from your legs. A thought from the back of your head rang, They're here, the baby's coming.
You tried to get up but more pain washed through you causing you to lay back down. Little did you know Dolores heard you and ran to get her mother and Tia Julieta. They had been getting ready for this moment and had been ready for days knowing you could go into labor at any moment.
They came into your room to soothe you before getting everything you needed. Wet cloths, water, even getting Alma to help as well. The night changed as everyone was then up and awake, your cries filled casita.
As it neared time to push for your baby, you shook your head. Tears streamed down your face as you sobbed from the emotions and the pain, "No! I cannot do this without Bruno, I can't.." you whimpered, just wanting nothing more than for him to be there. And Bruno wanted nothing more as well.
Much like the rest of the house, he was woken up by your cries. His heart clenched as tears weld up. Bruno wanted to rush into your room, to leave these stupid walls behind. He wanted to give you his hand to squeeze while you were in agony, to tell you how proud he was of you. How well you were doing. To kiss your forehead. To reassure you, to tell you that it would all be worth it in the end. "Forgive me, amor..." he mumbled as he sniffled, placing his head against the wall of your room, listening as you cried in pain.
Pepa huffed at the mention of her brother, but Julieta gave her a look before gently pushing your hair off your sweaty forehead. "Y/N, I know. I want him to be here too. And you know if he knew about this if he heard he would be here in a moment. Bruno loves you so much. So you need to do this, so when he comes back he can meet his baby, hm?" she said softly.
In your state you trusted her more than anyone, nodding quickly.
Do it for Bruno. Do it for your baby.
"Good. Now, you have to start pushing, alright?" Julieta instructed as Pepa and Alma held your hand and dabbed your forehead with a wet cloth.
Then you did. It was the most excruciating pain you had ever felt in your life, but then there was a relief and a loud cry. You panted and fell back against the bed, exhausted. Pepa took the baby, cleaning it up and such before showing you with a smile. "A beautiful boy, what is his name?" she asked.
You cried again at the sight of him. He had your hair already, a little peach fuzz. And Bruno's beautiful eyes. "Pedro," you said in a shaky tone, and Alma looked to you in surprise but you could see the love in her eyes. And you knew the sentiment in the name, how much it meant to the triplets as well as their mother. It meant so much to her, and you knew that. It was a name you and Bruno had agreed on a while ago. If at any point you had children, and you had a boy, it would be after Bruno's father. "After his Abuelo...Bruno agreed on-"
Before you could finish you let out another scream of pain. Julieta looked in confusion, checking you before looking up to you. "Y/N, you need to push again. There is another.." you couldn't question it as you just pushed until a second baby cry filled your room.
Panting heavily, your eyes drooped in exhaustion. You were prepared for one baby, but not another. After Pepa handed Pedro to Alma, she cleaned up the second baby, before showing you. "A girl,"
You smiled as the baby girl looked just like you. Your hair again, and your eyes. "Carina. My beloved..." you decided on the spot with a nod, "Carina Alma Madrigal." you finalized before you fell asleep to rest and recover, while the family got to making another crib for the second baby.
In the morning, the announcement of your two children made it to the town and your parents came to visit. Yes, Bruno left you heartbroken, but you had two angels now that needed you.
Bruno watched from the walls, the cracks in the wood as he look at the sight of his twins. Tears fell from his eyes as he saw how beautiful they were. How Carina looked so much like you, how Pedro looked like a perfect mix of you both. Slowly he fell to his knees, forehead pressed against the inside of the wall. If only things had been different, maybe he would have been able to stand there with you. With your family, and your little miracles.
Can I please ask for some headcanons for Bruno with a female reader who has dimples and thinks his powers are the coolest thing EVER
Bruno x female reader with dimples and a strong fascination with his power coming right up!
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Okay, so for this scenario, I'd like to think that you're just a bit younger than Bruno, most likely still in you forties, and you've only just moved to Encanto about 3 years before the movie.
You immediately captivated by the Madrigals, as anyone would be and probably was if they lived in Encanto. It was just like one of the many fantasy books you had read growing up, and it really brought out your inner child to say the least.
You were the local baker, and you had to make several deliveries to the Madrigal house for certain celebrations, as poor Julieta couldn't be left to handle all the cooking on her own. You quickly befriended her and Pepa over a shared love of cooking, and by happenstance, you began to bond with the rest of the Madrigal family.
You, of course, became friends with Felix and Agustin, as any friend of their wives was a friend of theirs.
You were considered to be a "cool aunt" figure to the older girls, giving them helpful advice and letting them borrow whatever they needed from you, as long as they promised to keep out of trouble.
You listened to Dolores as she went on about her crush on a young man in town, and helped Luisa relax when she overworked herself too much.
You gave Isabel hair tips and let her vent to you whenever she needed somebody to talk do who didn't see her as "Senorita Perfecta."
With the younger kids, you'd hype up Camilo's acting skills and shape-shifting, often sitting through the one-man shows he would frequently put on. You noticed fairly quickly that the boy was very drawn to Shakespeare.
You didn't judge Mirabel or see her as less impressive than the rest of her family, but rather, you praised her for her astounding sewing skills, and even taught her how to crochet from time to time.
And little Antonio, sweet baby Antonio... well, when Pepa needed a break to collect herself or just a night to spend with Felix, you took the burden off of Dolores's shoulders and offered to watch him yourself, growing quite attached to the young boy.
Soon, you were practically living in the Madrigal house, and yet, for the three years you had been close with the family, you never heard anything about the black sheep of the family... Bruno Madrigal.
Yes, of course you knew of him; Pepa mentioned him when discussing her wedding day with Felix, and Abuela Madrigal had told you that for your own safety, you were not to go into Bruno's tower. You never really asked for more details on Bruno, a. Because it was a touchy subject in the Casita and b. He was never really brought up enough for you to really sit and wonder about it.
However, when you finally did meet him in helping the Madrigals rebuild their Casita, that excitement and wonder came back immediately.
I mean, you knew about his gift, but just like the general consensus of "Oh, he could see the future." You were just as clueless as Mirabel, as you had no idea the visions were actually physical tablets or that he had his own VISION CAVE?!
Despite your excitement, though, you tried really hard not to act like you were only interested in his power, because you weren't. You were curious as to what he was like and what his relationships with the other Madrigals were and just exactly what he was up to over the last decade.
You'd be lining if you didn't think he was cute too but that's beyond the point.
Everyday when you came over to the Madrigal Casita, you would always take some time to talk to Bruno, with the excuse of "Oh, I had extra hand pies and I thought you deserved to try some of baking yourself!"
He talked about his interests in theater and his rats and what his life was like before he disappeared. You talked about your time in Encanto and your baking and your love of romance novels and plays.
And well. Of course you fell for him.
And Bruno couldn't help but fall for you, too.
Okay, so this would definitely sound creepy out of context, but Bruno really first saw you the first time you visited the Madrigal house. He grew to accept you like the rest of the Madrigal family, even if you never directly interacted with him, and slowly got to know you through overhearing your conversations with the rest of the family.
He loved the way you were able to comfort Pepa during her mood swings, and just how helpful you were with Julieta when she had too much on her plate (teehee pun).
He loved the way you interact with his older nieces, supporting them in a way he wished he had been when he was their age.
And he just thought your encouragement and love for the littler ones was just so sweet and admirable.
And, well, he really, really liked you.
Once he caught Dolores in the kitchen in the middle of the night, delivering him some tea, and he managed to ask if you were married, to which Dolores shrugged, and said "she's never mentioned a husband."
"Hmm... by the way this is uh... the rats speaking... still."
He came to find out when he finally left the walls of his house that you were in fact very much so single, and he was over the moon.
The more and more active he became in the Encanto community again, the more and more time he spent with you.
You'd two frequently go for walks together, either through Encanto or just outside of the mountain range.
He'll start coming to your bakery, too, and you'll even let him taste test the batter before you bake it.
Eventually, the two of you are inseparable, and even though you aren't official, many of the people around town just assume you're a couple.
It leads to some awkward moments, but neither you nor Bruno seems really bothered when people make the mistake.
It's when you finally have to guts to ask about his power that you two make it official.
After months of wanting to ask about his power and tip-toeing carefully around the subject as best you could, finally managed to ask how his gift worked.
He, of course, groaned, explaining it hesitantly, but as soon as you asked him to demonstrate, he quickly made all of the troubles that came with having a gift like his apparent.
"-and look, why would I even want to murder a goldfish!? what would I gain from killing a-"
"Bruno! Calm down... I'm not going to judge you because of your power. I know who you are, and I know that you and your gift are two separate things. I won't judge you because of your gift."
Bruno looked down to the ground and gave a heavy sigh, slowly blinking as he thought it over. Finally, after a long while of silent deliberation, he gave you a soft smile and stood up.
"Alright then. I'll show you."
And so, off the two of you went to his room, which, in comparison to the old Casita, was much more lively and had a lot less stairs. Once you arrived in his vision gave, he set everything up that he needed to and sat with you in a circle of sand.
You swore when he started his gift, you could barely turn away from his glowing green eyes. They were mesmerizing, and you would've asked for a vision anyways if it only meant you could see his eyes.
Around you, the sand showed a vision of you, traveling through the world. Your past. Then it showed you arriving in Encanto, meeting all of the Madrigals until you finally stopped at Bruno. The image of you froze, staring at Bruno until she reached out to embrace him, with Bruno hesitantly returning it.
And with that, the vision ended and the cave echoed with your high-pitch squeal.
Bruno smiled brightly as you gave such an excited reaction, admittedly a little flustered due to what the vision showed, but overall more focused on your reaction.
And when he saw how wide your smile was and how cute your dimples were when you did, he didn't even care anymore.
With a quick flash, you embraced Bruno, pulling him close to your chest and smiling, holding him tight.
"That was so cool, Bruno, thank you for showing me! It was even more impressive than I thought."
You pulled away for a moment, and looked into his big, now brown eyes. You blushed slightly.
"And about what I saw in the vision-"
"No, no, I get it! It's weird that I may like you a bit and it's even weirder that a vision showed it, but please don't think you have to-"
You interrupted him with a kiss on the cheek, cupping his face gently as you softly asked,
"Would you like to have dinner together?"
