Not enough (Bruno x Reader)
Tumblr media
For @tolkien-fantasy hope you like it
__________________
You sighed and tried to block the pain from your mind as you let Casita help you to the nearest chair. You were sick of this, of not being able to do things by yourself and having to depend not only on your family, but on the house itself. It's not that you weren't grateful, but each day you felt more like a burden than a person.
"Thank you Casita" you whispered
You didn't even pay attention to the little tile that waved in greeting, you were too busy gently rubbing your hands and trying to hold back the angry tears that stung in your eyes.
You really missed the time when you could do more things, when you could run, jump, cook, play with your nieces and nephew, when simply moving from one chair to another was not an almost impossible herculean task for you. A time that seemed so far away now.
It started just three years after your wedding. You and Bruno were at your best, just enjoying each other's company, being goofy and happy, you had even made plans to make your family bigger (even if he turned red as soon as you mentioned it), it was all so perfect. Until the first blackout.
It had happened out of nowhere, one moment you were buying books with Pepa and the next everything had suddenly gone dark. By the time you woke up, you were already at home, in your bed, with the whole family looking at you with concern while Julieta tried to bring down your fever. Your sister-in-law didn't know what caused it, and despite what she might say, the soft smiles she gave you and how much she cared for you, you knew that a part of her had never stopped feeling guilty, because no matter how much magical food she gave you, you never healed.
Things had only gotten worse for you since that day, blackouts occurring more and more frequently, your joints and muscles getting weaker, condemning you to a life of constant pain. At first, you didn't want to say anything, you didn't want to worry Bruno or give Julieta more work, but when Pepa had to carry you back in her arms because your legs couldn't bear your weight anymore, you had to admit that something was wrong with you.
Your husband hardly ever left your side since then, saying that he didn't help the town much anyway. Alma accepted it, too worried that something could happen to the person she saw as another child, Julieta scolded you for not going to her every time something hurt and Pepa had made it her mission not to lose sight of you in the strange times when her brother was not with you.
"You can't leave me alone with those two, Y/N" she had told you "I'd go crazy"
"You already are" you teased softly
She smiled at you, but you could see in her eyes the same fear that invaded them all. They never told you anything, but you knew that Bruno had tried to look into your future to find out how he could help you or what would happen to you, when would you get better? But he never shared that vision, and deep inside you knew the answer: you never would.
It was hard at first, but you were strong for him, because you knew that the only person more terrified than you was your husband. He was afraid of losing you, of not being able to do anything for you, and even though you felt the same fear of leaving him, you decided that you couldn't let that paralyze you, that regardless of whether you had much or little time left, you were going to enjoy it with your family.
Your nieces and nephew were quick to get used to your situation. Isabela tried to act as if she could take care of you by herself, she would spend afternoons with you after school and she would fill your hair with beautiful flowers to cheer you up when you felt bad. Often she and Camilo competed over who could make you smile the most.
Luisa was extremely careful with you. She had just gotten her gift just two years before and she was terrified of hurting you with her strength, so she was content to just talk to you from the door. Mirabel, your precious butterfly, was the one who kept you the most company.
The girl was a miracle, you had told Julieta, who lit up the whole room with her mere presence. It didn't matter if Pepa or Bruno were keeping you company, Mirabel was always, always by your side, telling you how her day had gone, what things she had found, showing you her drawings and simply making you feel warmer every time she smiled at you.
However, everyone knew that it was Dolores who took care of you the most. The girl was silent, but her gift had turned out to be the most useful in helping you. She was always aware of you, your heart rate, your breathing, everything. If you started to get agitated, the girl immediately warned any adult who was nearby, she was like your little personal sentinel, always watching over you even if she wasn't around.
So you weren't surprised when Bruno rushed into the kitchen, almost tripping over his own feet. You smiled lovingly at him when he dropped in front of you with concern etched on his face. You were pleasantly surprised how after so many years, he was still incredibly handsome in your eyes and how he could look at you with such love and adoration, as if he hadn't spent the last few years practically having to shadow you.
"What happened?" he asked worried
"Nothing" you smiled "I just got a little dizzy, but I'm fine, Casita helped me"
He smiled back gently, stroking the back of your hand with his thumb, his touch as light as a feather. That was another thing he knew you hated: that nowadays your conversations were just to say who had helped you. There were no longer funny stories, innocent gossip or funny anecdotes, your life was slowly ending between the same walls.
"Amor..." you whispered
"Yes?"
"...please"
Your husband's expression changed to one of intense pain. It wasn't the first time you had this conversation, that you begged him to tell you what he had seen in that vision. You weren't stupid, you knew there was no cure, otherwise Julieta's food would have already worked, you didn't want to know how it would happen, if it would be painful or if you would go off quietly between dreams. All you wanted to know was how much time you had.
"Y/N -" he started
"I need to know, Bruno" you interrupted him "I don't even know if I'll make it to next Christmas"
It was a depressing thought, because it was September, and if it weren't for the intense pain you felt all the time and that had gotten worse in recent weeks, you wouldn't be making such a suggestion knowing that Dolores was listening to you. But you felt that now was not the time to be careful.
"Mi vida-"
"Please" you begged "...just tell me, how much time do I have?"
Bruno looked at you with an intense mix of fear, pain, and regret, but with a flash of love, love so deep you could almost feel it in your very bones. He sighed and took your hands gently. His grip was shaky and you knew, even before the words left his mouth, that his response was causing him great pain.
"Not enough"

Encanto preferences- Protecting them when Casita breaks
Masterlist
A/N:I wrote this a while back and forgot to post it. It was heavily inspired by this post X
Bruno
Tumblr media
As you were walking over to Isabela's room, you were caught by Abuela. You hadn't even made it upstairs, she immediately started screaming at you,Bruno and Mirabel. As the three of them were yelling at each other, you felt Casita rumbling and the cracks under your feet. Seconds before you could tell them to stop Bruno yelled out.
"I didn't leave because I don't care about this family,I left because I care. I couldn't let you see that vision,I couldn't let you treat Mirabel like you treated me!" There was a brief moment of silence before Casita broke. Everything was breaking apart. Everyone was rushing towards the candle but almost all of them got pushed out by Casita, the only ones left inside were you and Bruno. "Y/N get out,I'll get the candle" He ran off before you could stop him,you ran after him. He got the candle but tripped, you ran and caught him. There was no way you’d have enough time to get out,you pulled him closer to you covering him with your body. You could feel everything crumbling around you, some pieces of rubble hit you causing you to flinch. Once it was all over,he quickly looked up at you.
“Are you okay?”
“Don’t worry about me,are you okay?”
“I’ll be fine” You both looked down at the candle,it had gone out. “Bruno, everything will be fine. You’re way more important than some miracle”
“Not to them,I’m not”
“You are important to them, even if they don’t wanna admit it.They’ll find a way to live without the magic, but not without you,I know I wouldn't” You could see tears forming in his eyes before he kissed you.
Camilo
Tumblr media
“Camilo, don’t” You tried to stop him,but he pushed past you and towards the candle. He was just a few seconds away from it when his powers stopped working. Casita was trying hard to push everyone out,but you managed to stay inside. Camilo quickly got up,trying to reach the candle again. “Camilo” You ran up and grabbed him “We need to get out of here”
“I can’t leave”
“Camilo,I can’t let you die for a candle!”
“Then you don’t really love me” He broke from your grip as you were too shocked and heartbroken to react. You froze in place, until you heard.
“Y/N! Get out of there!” Pepa yelled at you. Camilo reached out for the candle and that’s when the roof crumbled under his feet. Casita was too weak to help out,you were the only one who could save him at this point. You caught him but it was too late to get out at this point, you were trapped inside. Everything was breaking apart, you knew you had to protect him. Once everything settled you were trapped under the rubble, your whole body ached. Your leg was really hurting you and every tiny movement caused you incredible pain. A bigger piece of rubble was lifted, revealing Luisa behind it. You gave her a smile before looking back at Camilo.
“Did you get hurt?” Everyone gathered around you.
“No,I’m fine,” He mumbled. You tried to stand up,only to immediately fall. “Y/N” You could barely hear him, everything was getting blurry and soon it was completely black.
***
When you woke up again, you were in Pepa’s room, was that all a dream? You tried to get up and immediately Camilo walked in.
“Y/N” He rushed to your side. “Don’t stand up,your still injured”
“So that wasn’t a dream” You mumbled to yourself.
“Y/N” He sat down on the bed. “I wanted to apologize, about what I said, how you don’t love me”
“Camilo,it’s okay”
“No,Y/N,it wasn’t okay. What I said to you wasn’t right, regardless of the situation. You proved just how much you do love me,you saved my life. And I choose that candle over you. I just hope you’ll take me back”
“I never let you go” You laughed, pulling him into a hug
Isabela
Tumblr media
You were looking for Mirabel, suddenly plants were popping up everywhere. Not just roses but all kinds of plants. You got back to Casita to see Isabela and Mirabel on a bed of flowers,Isabela's dress was covered in flower dust of all different colors,it looked way more beautiful than her regular one. You were about to call out to both of them but Abuela walked just that second. Isabela's whole demeanor changed back to her 'perfect girl' and she quickly moved aside as Mirabel and Abuela started arguing.  When everything started breaking, you were panicking.
“Isa,we need to get out of here”
“No,we need to get the candle”
“Help Mirabel” She looked a little confused. “Use your plants to give her a boost” She nodded and did as you said. Mirabel got the candle, you noticed a piece of rubble that was about to hit Isabela. You quickly grabbed her and pulled her away just in time. She used her magic to pull Mirabel out of the house. Thankfully everyone made it out,but the candle still went out. “Are you hurt?”
"No" She stood up as you did the same. "You?"
"I'm fine" You moved closer to her "I like your new dress" You whispered.
Luisa
Tumblr media
Luisa was trying to hold up a bunch of falling debris, she was clearly struggling with her gift slowly fading. You were the last two in there along with Mirabel,Luisa refused to leave without Mirabel and you refused to leave without Luisa. You tried your best to help her, even if you weren't very strong. Finally Mirabel made it out,but at the last second even more debris fell and it was far too heavy. Immediately your instincts kicked in,pulling her down you covered as much of her body with your own. Which wasn't exactly easy since she was a giant compared to you,but you made sure to cover her head and neck.
"Luisa,I think this is it for me. If I don't make it out alive I don't want you to blame yourself, this isn't your fault and I'd gladly die for you. But I need you to know that I love you" She was silent for a moment, but you soon heard her sobbing. You closed your eyes, waiting for everything to fall on you. There were so many pieces,it felt like they were never ending, but eventually they stopped.
"Y/N,I love you too" finally with that you closed your eyes, the pain was just too much but you kept her safe. When you woke up again, you were out of the rubble but still in Luisa's arms.
Mirabel
Tumblr media
Both you and Mirabel raced towards the candle and got to it just in time. When the roof under her started collapsing you quickly pulled her against you before jumping down. Casita caught you just before you hit the floor, there was no time to get out. You held onto her as tight as you could, casita used the last of its strength to move a bunch of the furniture around you to protect the two of you. When everything went silent, the furniture that was protecting you fell. The candle had gone out and Mirabel looked completely defeated. Her expression quickly changed when she noticed you bleeding from your arm. She tore off a piece of her dress and tied it around your arm.
"Thank you" You kissed her cheek and stood up,reaching to help her up. "Are you okay?" She only nodded, she hadn't said anything since the candle went out.
"Mirabel,Y/N" Julieta rushed over to the two of you. "Are you hurt?"
"Y/N got hurt" Mirabel broke her silence, but her gaze was still on the ground.
"I'll be fine" You put your hand on her cheek, forcing her to finally look up at you. "I'm more worried about you. '' She just hugged you without any other word,in seconds you heard her sobbing.
"This is all because of me,we lost the miracle and you got hurt because of me"
"Mirabel, none of this is your fault. I'd do anything to protect you"

So I rewatched the movie encanto, and I wondered something.
What would Bruno's kids be like?
Hear me out, Alma and Pedro gave birth to the past (Julieta, who heals past wounds), present (Pepa who can control the weather now), and future (Bruno who can see the future)
Julieta and Augustin gave birth to beauty (Isabella, who makes beautiful flowers and plants), brawn (Luisa who is stronger than ten men), and brains (Mirabel who solved the whole family issues)
Pepa and Félix gave birth to hear no evil (Dolores who hears everything), see no evil (Camilo who can change into anyone), and speak no evil (Antonio who can speak to animals and command them)
But what would Bruno's children be if he had any? What would their life be like in the encanto before and after Bruno leaves? Would he have triplets like he was with his sisters since everyone else is years apart? Who would they get along with? What do you think their powers would be? What would their relationship be with the members of the family? What would the villagers think of them?
I need to know what you guys think. Make your story for these three

Hi there. I really like your fics, (specially the hogwarts legacy and the Encanto ones) so can I ask you for an Encanto fic in which M!reader (or GN!reader if you want more people to feel included) struggles to control their gift which is manipulating any forms of fire. Abuela gets mad for the chaos they have caused and the people are scared of them.
The reader is feeling really bad because they feel that their gift can only cause destruction but then Bruno appears and comforts them and tell them that all of the people are afraid of him too and that the gift they have is truly wonderfull.
If this doesn't bother you can you make this before the events of the movie? Maybe the reader can be still a child who got their gift not so long ago. And also that their mother is Pepa.
Thank you so much and sorry if my explanation was so long and impossible to understand. English isn't my first language. Have a nice day/ night!!
A/N: Thank you so much anon! So sorry for the delay, I ended up with chickenpox for the past few weeks and it is has taken me a while to recover. Hope you enjoy!
Destruction
child!Madrigal reader x Bruno Madrigal (platonic!)
Tumblr media
The whole village was a flurry with anticipation. There was to be a celebration in the village square and the entire Madrigal family was helping with the decorations and preparations. Your cousin Isabela had created the most beautiful flower decorations, and you took one of the flowers in your hand to smell the sweetness of it. A little bit of pollen got into your nose and… “Achoo!” You sneezed, triggering your gift to set the poor, unsuspecting flower aflame.
“Ah! No, no, no!” You muttered, as you tried to stamp the flames out. In your panic, you only made the fire worse as you slowly set alight to ALL the decorations. Soon, half the village square was up in flames. Villagers started running around screaming, pushing and shoving as they tried to get away. Some of the village children ran up towards you before they spotted the flames coming from your hands. “Ah! Monster!” They screamed, running in the opposite direction to you.
Your mother, Pepa, saw the chaos happening. Her eyes narrowed as she saw that you were in the centre of it all. The sky darkened and rain began to pour from the sky, as lightning flashed dangerously and the loud rumble of thunder signified how terribly angry she was with you. “Oh no…” You whispered to yourself, as she came over to you, agonisingly slowly. Luckily, the intense rain was able to douse your flames, including the ones still hovering above your hands.
“Y/N!” A shriek of anger comes from the edge of the village square. You turn to see your Abuela coming towards you, her face in a vicious snarl. “How could you? You’ve destroyed everything your family has worked so hard on today!”
You sniff, tears threatening to fall. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to, I couldn’t… control it.” Your chin wobbles, as Abuela yanks your arm to drag you back to Casita. Your family follows behind you, glaring daggers into your back. “I don’t want to hear it, Y/N.” Abuela shakes her head. “You have created absolute chaos, frightened the villages and disappointed your family. You must control your gift, or you cannot go out of Casita into Encanto.”
You gasp in shock, blinking rapidly as the tears mix in with the rain coming from Pepa’s storm. “You’ll lock me away in Casita?” You begin to sob, hugging myself as we trudge up the steps to Casita. As soon as you all get inside, you run up the stairs and run into your room, slamming the door. You flop onto your bed, staring up at the ceiling. It feels like your heart will break.
The door slowly creaked open, and your eyes land on your Uncle Bruno as he slinks into the room. “Y/N, let’s… have a talk.” You sit up, wiping your tears, as you sit cross-legged on your bed. Bruno sits beside you, a hand resting on your shoulder. “I know what it is like. To have a gift that causes fear in other people.” He says, as you look up at him, listening intently.
“People have a tendency to be… afraid of what they don’t understand. Now, you and I… we both have powerful gifts. Capable of great things… but also capable of causing a lot of damage.” You look down, sniffling, as you hug your pillow. “They see that power, and they are afraid. They don’t take the time to understand it.” Bruno adds, sighing as he looks down at you. “I know it seems tough right now, that no one will be able to see who you are, past the big scary fire…”
“They are so frightened of me… but it isn’t my fault, I can’t control it!”
“You will, with time. And when you can, they will love you for your gift. I think it is pretty neat, honestly.” Your face lights up. “Really?”
“Well, for a start, you can create a bonfire any time you want, and then we can toast marshmallows. Or when it is super dark, and you can just flick your hand and light us a torch? Yeah… your gift is awesome.” His words make you smile for the first time, the candles in your room start to burn a bit brighter.
“You keep your chin up, kiddo. Don’t listen to the others… listen to your Uncle Bruno.” You smile, feeling the room become warmer from the heat of your flames again.
“Thanks, Tío.”

Character:Modern!Bruno Madriga
Warnings: None
A/n: He would do something like this, also established Relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Glancing around the home you were shocked to find so many of red and green plant hanging in each door way. Wrinkling your nose your stepped into another room wondering where your husband might be since you had an inkling that he might be the culprit to why you’re seeing so many.
“Bruno?!”
Sighing you pinched the bridge of your nose nearly running into one of your nieces. “Mirabel have you’ve seen your Bruno.”
Nearly dropping the box of decorates, Mirabel opened her mouth trying to come up with a answer though seeing your face her shoulders sagged. “Uh by the entrance of your room.”
“Thank you!” Rushing off to your room, you cleared out your room spotting your husband placing one mistletoe above the doorway.
“Alright, mister. I know you’re the one who keeps hanging up mistletoe everywhere.”
“Ah!” Grabbing the latter, Bruno slowly turned to look at you with a sheepish smile on his face. “Hello Mi Amore”
Shaking your head you held out your hand for him to take. “Do you have reason why you’re doing this?”
Grabbing your hand, the man stepped down from the ladder clearing out his throat. “I guess I am just not used to it…being back here with you and everyone.”
Gaze softening you gave him a smile cupping his cheeks. “If you ever want to kiss me just do it alright.”
Letting out the breath he was holding in, Bruno slowly wrapped his arm around your waist pulling you in for a gentle kiss. Smiling he then rested his forehead against your own. “I can do that.”

Forever
Yandere Madrigal family x reader
Tumblr media
Your eyes slowly started open, then you saw the whole Madrigal family, before you. "Wait w-what's-" "no need to worry Amor" Julieta cut you off. "B-but-" then you had once again been cut off but, by Isabela this time. "No but's darling you're are ours now" you then asked " what if someone comes to finds me?" "we'll deal with that when that happens mi Vida" Camilo replied. You started to struggle a bit until you realized the restraints were too tight. "It's no use doll, you can't leave us" Dolores stated possessively. You gulped in fear, scared of what they were going to do.
Once they left the room you decided to escape, reaching to your back pocket, pulling out your pocket knife. And then, just barley being able to cut through the ropes. Once you hacked your way through the ropes, you opened the window attempting to climb out but saw the height.
You swallowed all your fear and then jumped, pain shot through your legs. But, you ignored it. You heard the distance calls of the Madrigal family follow, it only made you run faster. But you, tripped and then sprained your ankle. You tried to drag yourself away but, had gotten picked up by strong arms, being Luisa's.
"Look at you, you hurt yourself. You need to be more careful!" Luisa scolded you, she then quickly brang you back to the family. Everyone then quickly hugged you, Julieta then gave you some of her food. Making your ankle heal, Luisa then put you down. Suddenly you felt tired and a bit drowsy, you then fell to the ground, your world fading to black. The Madrigal family only smiling. You were theirs now, forever

𝑯𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝒖𝒍𝒔𝒆.
𝐈𝐍 𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐂𝐇 : 𝐽𝑢𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑡𝑎 didn't know that her precious 𝒅𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒓 would hide a big secret from her since she was little, until the day she turned nineteen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
⊰᯽⊱┈──╌❊╌──┈⊰᯽⊱
There she is,
Standing alone in cold while holding a basket of fruits. Trying to remember what is she supposed to do in this life.
Her eyes kept staring into the lake as if she's having her own scenario in her own little world. (Y/N) shakes her head as she shift her gaze to where the casita is.
It's been eighteen years, she haven't told her biggest secret to her mother. She doesn't have any confidence to do so, her heart was beating so slow as if it could stop at any moment.
Her face was always pale since she was born in this cruel world, of course she tried her best to keep healthy, Some days, much like this one, (Y/N) felt slipping away from herself. Hallucinating almost everyday. She also barely eat, sleep, and almost never talk to any of her family.
She could hear the distant noise of her sister calling her name multiple times, so she turned fully to the source is. “Oh, Mirabel.” she mutters quitely making the youngest one cross her arms.
“You're daydreaming again, (Y/N).” the older sister raises her eyebrows as she soften her gaze to the younger one, “I am? I think i'm just tired.”
Mirabel frowns, clearly suspicious towards (Y/N). “Say, why don't you go take some rest and i'll do your chores.” the latter widen her eyes, “What? No, i still need to carry these fruits and those ingredients for Mamá—”
She immediately cut off when the youngest Madrigal snatch the basket of fruits from her, it surprises her that she can carry the heaviest basket of hers. “Nope! You're going to get some rest, Mi Hermana. You look very tired, so please.” Mirabel begged making the older one sighs in defeat.
“Okay, but don't overdo it, Mirabel. And thank you so much.” (Y/N) pats her younger sister head as she give her a small smile. How unfortunate, she's not going to see her growing up to a beautiful young lady.
She watches her youngest sister walked away while trying her best not to fall along with the fruits she just picked from the garden. (Y/N)'s smile falters as she put her hand on her chest to make sure that she still can feel the weak heart.
Not many people liked (Y/N) in the town, due to her cluelessness always bringing about misfortune, which she was very unaware of.
About her condition, as well, meant that they would have to take care of her more. People stayed away from (Y/N), except children, but even then the parents would hastily call them away.
(Y/N) never thought much about it, unaware of the scary rumours that revolved around her. People just didn’t like her. That’s it.
She's far different compared to Isabela who is loved by the people in town. Isabela was the opposite of her, as if she's the source light of life and (Y/N) is just a dark cold shadow who keeps hiding in their place.
But like i said, (Y/N) tried her best. She really did. For her Abuela, for the family, for the Encanto. Her thoughts were immediately interrupted when she remembered something, (Y/N) immediately returned to Casita and immediately took the teddy bear she had just sewn.
Surprisingly, she will give the doll to her mother, Julieta. A soft smile slowly crept on her pale face as she look at the stuffed teddy bear with crude stitching she had done to the teddy bear's chest.
(Y/N) held the teddy close to her chest and began to search for her mother presence. When she's about to enter the kitchen, she saw Isabela being healed by their mother.
“You hurt your ankle again?” “Sí, Mamá.” Julieta sighs as she hold her daughter's beautiful— perfect face carefully. For some reason, (Y/N)'s weak heart ache at the sight.
“Remember, Be careful next time.” Julieta smiles at Isabela who nodded her head. “I will, Thank you for the arepa, Mamá.” the perfect Madrigal giggles as she embrace her mother.
Until they heard something fall from the counter as they shift their gaze and only found a cute handmade teddy bear on the floor. Julieta slowly walked to the stuffed bear and pick it up while admiring it by flipping it over her palms.
“Do you know who made this?” Julieta asked her eldest daughter, “I don't know, i think it's Mirabel since she loved to sew.” Julieta smiles at the thought about her youngest daughter wanted to surprise her but failed.
“I'll be going now, don't want to leave the chores alone by itself!” Isabela quickly excuse herself as she flashed her mother a grateful smile and then leave the older woman alone in the kitchen with a stuffed teddy bear.
(Y/N) can only shut her mouth, almost having a heart attack by her own action after tripping herself. She internally scremed at herself, (Y/N) can only ducked her head in shame.
Not long after, She gasp as she've weathered another round of suffering, taking a moment to catch her breath and allow her heart to regain its ability to pump blood through her body.
“I have to take my meds, or else ... I won't be seeing her tomorrow on my birthday.” she mumbles while rub her backhead bashfully.
꧁༺༒༻꧂
There is no doubt that (Y/N) is going to die. Soon.
The young Madrigal keeps trying to find a courage to tell her mother that she is the one who sewed the stuffed teddy bear. Sadly, she doesn't have any.
Her weak heart keep beating and beating slowly as if begging for her to stop moving and rest for a while. But she keeps forcing herself to hit the limits, she keeps trying her best.
Not long after, she gave in, expecting for the worst as she enters the kitchen and see her mother is busy cooking for breakfast.
“Uh— Mamá?” (Y/N) called, Julieta stop her work and then turned to see her daughter, “Oh, (Y/N)! G'morning Corazón, Also— Happy birthday!” Julieta greeted her daughter as if she's still baby then hugged her tightly.
(Y/N) didn't hugged her back, making Julieta's smile falter. “Mi vida, are you okay?” The mother asks, (Y/N) raises her eyebrows as she soften her gaze.
“Yes, everything is okay but— i just want to let you know that the stuffed teddy bear you found yesterday, was sewed by me.” the daughter replies as she shift her gaze to the teddy bear where Julieta put it on the counter.
Julieta gasps, “You sewed? Since when? It's wonderful!” Julieta take the teddy bear and began to inspect it again. “I uh— two months ago, and i wanted to give it to you but i failed.” The second eldest daughter of hers ducked her head in embarassement.
“That is so sweet of you, Mi Amor, thank you— i love it. He looks very cute,” (Y/N) notices that Julieta's gaze was stop at the stitching chest on the teddy bear. “He got a heart transplant,” (Y/N) explains making the healer raises her eyebrows in question, tracing the stitching with her hand. “His heart was sick so he got a new one.”
Julieta soften her gaze and then kiss the teddy bear's chest. “Then, i'm glad you're the one who healed him.” the healer laughed at her daughter's priceless expression.
“Yes, i am glad.” she mutters, looking at her mother sadly. The grief inside her began to build up and swell in her chest, and it hurt her so badly.
She was so alone, so sad. She felt as if someone was stabbing at her weak heart with a knife, and it hurts do badly. She never thought that she's going to die and never see the loving mother and Family.
(Y/N) doesn't know why either she hides this weak heart of hers. The way she born different from her sisters and cousins. It made her heart drop. The meaning of a presence will be felt when the loss has taken it, if that happens, then only regret will be created.
She knew that if she dies, Julieta would blame herself for giving her a weak body, a weak heart. Weak lungs to breathe. A part of her didn't want that to happen.
“I haven't eat Mamá's arepa since i was little ... What will happen if i eat them again? Will this weak heart of mine would be stronger and healed?” (Y/N) mumbles making the older woman tilt her head in confusion.
“What did you just say?” the young Madrigal gulped, “Nothing, just some chores. Abuela wants me to deliver those packages again.” (Y/N) reasoned and then give her mother a warm smile.
“Alright then, be careful. If anything happens, find me at my stand like always, okay?” Julieta tiptoes to kiss her daughter's forehead and then her nose, making (Y/N) giggles.
“See you later, Ma!” little did Julieta know, (Y/N) take one of her arepa to test herself out before she's too late to try. The latter sprinted to their garden and then stare at the arepa for a moment.
“Okay then, you only live once. The moment of truth—”
(Y/N) immediately shoves the arepa into her mouth in a second and then let her favor the taste.
But she doesn't know that her hope betrayed her.
Two minutes later, she felt something inside her started to build up making her coughs so hard, (Y/N) close her mouth her both pf her hands as she tried her best to ease her coughing.
Her breath hitched, her throat constricted as if it didn't want to let her breathe through her mouth. Tears started to pool in her eyes as if they were ready to flow at any moment. However, she was in so much pain that she ignored the tears that started to roll down her cheeks.
It didn't kill her, but something inside her died that day.
When she stops coughing, she gasps when she saw the blood on her hands. (Y/N) falls on the ground, staring at the red liquid on her pale hands with shocked. She let a soft sob escape her lips as her tears mixed up with her blood.
“Dios ... Why me?” she sobbed quitely as possible, not wanting to let her cousin hear this sickness of hers. She bloody screamed internally. Debating with herself, should she tell her mother and the family or not. She doesn't had any idea either.
(Y/N) slowly gave in, accepting her fate that she's going to die. Forgetting about her chores as she wipes her bloody hands and mouth. The effect of the arepa is like forcing her weak heart to beat a lot stronger than before.
But that only made her heart pump the blood inside her body a lot faster, almost making herself explode at any moment.
(Y/N) couldn't do anything except stare at the blue sky she admire most since it remembered her to her mother's favorite color. Her smile, her laugh, her hugs, her kisses. She adores them all.
(Y/N) wipe her tears away and let herself to control her breathe.
She is going to die. Tonight.
꧁༺༒༻꧂
“Where is (Y/N)?” Isabela asks her sisters who doesn't have any idea either where their sister is.
“She's supposed to be here early!” Mirabel exclaimed as she keeps trying to search her sister from the crowds. “I think she's with Mom.” Luisa add in.
“Then what are we waiting for? Let's go find her.” Isabela grab her sister's wrist and lead them to the kitchen. “Woah! Okay slow down—” Mirabel almost tripped but Luisa immediately catch her.
“Careful.” “Isa, slow down!—”
When they entered the kitchen, the three siblings saw their mother staring at a bloody ruana. And that ruana is (Y/N)'s. “Mirabel, Luisa. Can you two please go check your sister at her room? And Isabela,” the mother turned her gaze to where her daughter is.
“Let's see what she's been hiding from us.” with that, Julieta give the bloody ruana to Luisa and then the two of them quickly left the kitchen in order to find their sister. Isabela was stunned was she sees her mother's tears are gliding on her cheeks but still expressing her worried face without sobbing.
When they finally reach to (Y/N)'s room, her door was completely not shining at all. As if giving them a sign that she's no longer using her gift or she's not in this world already. Julieta wipes her tears away as she grab the knob and open the door immediately.
She saw her two daughters and (Y/N) stood up from her bed while taking the bloody ruana from Luisa's big hand.
“Luisa, i'm fine. There is nothing wrong with me— i'm not sick, no, let's just get ready to party.” the second eldest daughter pondered as she turned her head.
Finally looked at her mother in the eyes. (Y/N) gasped, seeing her worried expression. Julieta held her hands together, worriedly, as if she was waiting for an explanation from her sick daughter.
Isabela's eyebrows were raised, her eyes open wide, and her mouth was slightly agape. She was so worried and (Y/N) felt bad for putting her in this situation. (Y/N) felt bad for everything.
“Mira Mi amor - yo sigo aqui, yo sigo estando para ti.” Julieta walked closely to where (Y/N) is. The daughter can only sobbed as she helplessly hug her mother in tight embrace.
She just couldn't believe that she's going to die.
What a horrible fact indeed, The town's healer can feel that (Y/N)'s body is deadly cold like a corpse. She knew that this is going to happen, but she thought (Y/N) would survive since she didn't do any heavy things - no, she never did.
All she did was reading her books at her room, watching people work, helping her mother prepared for the breakfast, lunch and even dinner. Nothing more, no, nothing more.
“I— ... Mamí, i don't want to die. I-i'm scared, i don't want to— leave... No, i never wanted to leave you, all of you!”
Julieta's heart break at the sight, she couldn't believe it either. Isabela can only watch them in worried, Luisa couldn't help but felt uneasy inside herself, and Mirabel - she's very silent while fiddling her fingers nervously.
“Mi amor— ... Tell us, tell us what do you want to do, what do you want to eat, now.” Julieta whispers in her motherly tone as always, trying her best to calm her soon-she's-going-to-die daughter, even though she could screams at the top of her lungs.
“I don't know— i just ... I just want to be with you, that's all.” (Y/N) replied as she put her head on the mother's neck. Julieta glance at her daughters who are still standing behind her, doesn't know whar to do.
Isabela, being the oldest and responsible one, she understood the sign of her mother's eye gave to her. She quickly assure her sisters to go out from (Y/N)'s room, though she felt hopeless because she's going to lose her secretly favorite sister.
The oh so fragile one.
When they heard the door is finally closed, (Y/N) still wrapped her arms around Julieta's body. Not going to let her go, until the death do them apart. “Mamí,” (Y/N) called in softest way, couraging to stay alive in pathetic way.
“Yes, mi dulce?” Julieta quickly respond as she doesn't want to let her daughter down at her last moment. A comfort silence was filled in the cold room, Julieta's heart began to race too since she saw the bloody ruana of her daughter.
“—Te amo, Mamí. Ugh— ... Por favor, te amo mucho.” she mumbles as her body violently shaking.
It's been so long for her to say those words. Oh so long.
“Me too, mi preciosa, me too. Since the day you're in my tummy, i never felt that i don't love you.” She hushed in gentle tone, as she rubs (Y/N)'s back in circles.
(Y/N) couldn't help but felt relief, so relief that she can finally let the words fall from her mouth ever since she was little. Nothing making her worried now, she's finally relief and in peace. No more burden, no more mockery, no more hate.
Just some peace, love, and her mother.
Julieta help her daughter to lay herself on her bed then hold her hand, she smiled warmly for the first time ever and her eyes war reflecting an eternal happiness. Julieta can feel her tears started to fall again, but she keep her best to stay calm.
It's unbelieveable to stay calm when your dearest person is going to day, well, not to Julieta Madrigal. If this is what her daughter's want, then she'll take any risk to support her. Even though they had to be apart forever.
“Thank you for everything, Mamá ... I'm so lucky to be your— daughter.” and that broke Julieta down in any seconds, (Y/N) still manage to squeeze her hand to comfort her for the last time.
“Tell the others... i love them so much, okay? Please— i... I don't want to leave if my family didn't know that i— i love them dearly...” she sobs, her weak heart beats started to slow more and more. Julieta nods her head, no words to let out.
With that, (Y/N) smiled at her mother then breathed for her one last time. Julieta can feel her daughter's hand no longer holding hers as kept holding it and put it on her forehead.
Though, one day, (Y/N) hope that the necklace that she brought and put it inside the teddy bear can be notice by her mother. A beautiful golden necklace that engraved a special name for the town's healer.
‘ Mi Mama - Julieta. ’

Bruno Madrigal Headcannons - When He Can’t Fall Asleep
Tumblr media
It’s 1:30am and I can’t sleep because Encanto has stolen my soul. I don’t even know how it started. Just woke up and wanted to talk about Bruno or somethin’ idk.
.・゜゜・ ⧖ ・゜゜・.
- He’s like a fish out of water when he can’t sleep. He flops on his right side, then he’ll flip on his left. Then repeat that same pattern for the next half hour until he finally decides to sit up.
- He doesn’t bother waking you up. There’s no way he’d ever want to disturb your slumber just because of his own selfish needs.
“Nono, I shouldn’t wake them… I can’t risk them loosing sleep just because I can’t.”
- He’ll slowly creep out of bed without waking you and take a walk around the casita. (With his rats in his presence of course.)
- On nights where he stays inside with you, he’ll try to spoon you as a way to comfort himself while embracing your sleeping body.
- There are also times where he’ll get up and get creative. He loves drawing! While he was living in the walls he drew many pictures of his rats and continues hanging up drawings of them in your shared room.
- It’s always nice to wake up and see a new drawing from the night before.
“Oh yeah? You noticed! I drew that one last night. I’ve always wondered what they’d look like on bicycles. Pretty cute huh, mi amor?
- Sitting up and reading is also something he’ll do, but the only downside is that he’s afraid the light from the nightstand will wake you up.
- But then there are nights where he’ll lay awake and just admire you as you sleep soundly next to him.
“Bruno…” you whispered groggily while opening one eye. “I can feel you staring…”
He felt his heart jump out of his chest and his face grow hotter. “I’m sorry mi amor! I just can’t - I’m sorry I can’t sleep… I didn’t mean for it to be creepy.”
You chuckle under your breath as you bring him into your arms. “Don’t worry amor, just close your eyes..”
And just like that, lights out.

my random and lost ideas of Encanto fanfics:
(still no name defined) Bruno Madrigal x Fem! Reader
"What do you mean I'm not going to marry Alvaro, but with you, and we're going to have three children?!"
In which, with just a few days to go before your wedding to Alvaro Guzman, you decide to consult the well-known and controversial seer of the Madrigal family, Bruno.
However, the responses and perceptions you received were quite different from what you expected; with the man envisioning nothing more than her marriage, not to her current fiancé, but to Bruno himself.
— the plot is already pretty clear, but I'll add a few more things; takes place well before the events of the film, at the time when Bruno, Pepa and Juliet were teenagers (around eighteen/nineteen). And Reader's marriage to Alvaro Guzman (Mariano's uncle) has been arranged, she is unhappy about it but knows she can't do anything to stop it. Therefore, he decides to consult with Bruno Madrigal, even with his family's warnings about his predictions being, hm...Complex. We'll have a time skip and the rest of the fanfic takes place in the current times of the movie (1950's) and the rest... Maybe someday I'll write.
//
still no name defined (Camilo Madrigal x Fem!Depressed! Reader
Living in such a happy and colorful place as the village of Encanto, it was not at all expected that you would develop illnesses like depression and, shocking everyone, even try to take your own life; however, it had already happened, and being extremely worried about the direction the case could take and how it would affect the whole city, Alma Madrigal decides to send Camilo, her only grandson with the same age as you, to keep you company and even keep an eye on you and your behaviors. What, in the beginning, seemed totally unnecessary and even irritating, ended up being her salvation and drastically changing her life; and, suddenly, Camilo Madrigal's constant presence in her life didn't seem so bad anymore.
— the synopsis was horrible, but I don't care. It was a first draft just so you guys have an idea of how the fanfic will be. But she's the story I'm most fond of and most likely to write first, so treat my baby well.

Okay, as much as I adore Encanto’s visuals, all of its character designs, and I think it’s one of the few 2021-present Disney movies to work in its typical 3D style, I think it would look even BETTER in the studio’s traditional 2D style it was famous for but stopped after 2011. I’m visualizing the movie in that style in my head, and I’m absolutely blown away by what I’m imagining. I dunno if some character designs or scenes would’ve been too hard to animate in hand-drawn 2D, but I still love the thought of it lol. I kinda wish it was this way now, I’ll never forgive the execs who thought it was a good idea to throw away 2D animation by setting up films using it to fail. Lol

hi! could you do prompt 10 “call me selfish” with bruno :) could be with smut up to you !!
#10 “Call me selfish, but I don’t ever want anyone else to touch you.”
Rating: M (contains mature content, readers agree they are 18+ by continuing to read)
Bruno Madrigal was not a materialistic man. He needed very few things to be content and comfortable in his space. Perhaps it was from years of living in a confined hole in the wall or perhaps it was the deeply-ingrained mindset of putting everyone’s needs before his own for the sake of the Encanto, because he was gifted, because he was a Madrigal.
The few valuable possessions he did have, he cherished for one reason or another. Everyone knew this about the prophet, especially when it came to his beloved wife. She was his most prized possession in a way, a testimony to the saying that “good things come to those who wait,” in the form of his happiness when he’s with her. Bruno was not one to consider his wife as an object which literally belonged to him, but rather a source of strength that balances parts of him in a way that he hopes he helps balance parts of her. For example, no one knew that under the mild-mannered, unassuming, socially awkward exterior of Bruno thrummed a passion and intensity that others would find shocking. Bruno was shocked when it first came forward shortly after meeting his wife. Her presence alone brought out a fierce desire to protect and care for as well as a fiery passion that required frequent affection given and received.
“Bruno, stop it,” she laughs, pushing his hands off her waist.
He snickers, ignoring her weak attempts at keeping his hands off of her. Gripping her hips, he lightly pulled her back until she leaned into his chest. Ducking his head, his mouth lingered along her neck, ghosting kisses along her skin. His second-day stubble scratched against her skin in a way that he knew excited her.
“Bruno,” she attempts to warn again, but this time it comes out almost like a sigh as she leans more into him.
“Mi conejita, so pretty, so sweet,” he murmured into the crook of her shoulder, his hands sliding forward across her abdomen until his arms locked around her torso, keeping her firmly pressed into him, groaning as he nuzzled the side of her head.
“Bruno, really,” she giggles, recognizing his tone, “we’re about to leave, mi amor,” she adds softly, laying her hand over his.
“I can’t help it, you’re addicting, I always want you,” he practically whines into her ear, his hands inching up towards her chest.
“Later, amor, you’re mother will have both our heads if we’re late,” she insists, turning in his arms to face him, “plus I’m not going to be the one to explain to Mirabel why her uncle was late either,” she adds, leaning up to peck his lips.
She steps back as he huffs with a pout and an eye roll, unable to admit he would never forgive himself for missing a part of his favorite niece’s sixteenth birthday. They’d been working together for weeks to prepare him for the amount of people about to be drinking and dancing around him. Since his “return” he’s gotten better about socializing and interacting with people but crowds were still a challenge, especially rowdy ones.
With another huff, he followed his wife downstairs. Most of the family has already gathered, greeting the early arrivals. Mirabel would be coming down any minute. Bruno went to make sure the camera was set up for the inevitable picture his mother would want of the family.
“Something to calm your nerves?” she offered, coming up to him after collecting two glasses of wine.
“I don’t think drinking is going to help my nerves, amor,” he scoffs lightheartedly, but still accepts the glass.
They mingle, well she mostly mingles and Bruno does his best to at least attempt to provide input to the various conversations they engaged in before the actual party began. Some groups he was more comfortable in than others and it showed by how much he spoke.
As the evening progressed, the entire house, literally, was in awe of Mirabel, who looked stunning in her handmade dress, her hair done up with flowers complimentary of her sister and the lightest touch of make-up on her eyes and lips. Bruno felt a pang in his chest, remembering the little child who would toddle after him around the house while he tried to keep up with her sisters’ endless energy. Now a beautiful young woman stood before him, a bright and ambitious woman who would continue to do amazing things.
“Dance with me?” his esposa asked softly later into the evening, when most of the food had been eaten and the band had gathered a crowd of dancers.
“You tempt me too easily, conejita,” he chuckles, but leads her towards the dancing mass of people.
They stay towards the back edge of the crowd, moving fluidly together. Bruno was not as theatrical as his sister or as poised as his other sister, but he carried himself well. He held her close, keeping his head low to whisper his desires against the shell of her ear, sporadically nipping at her earlobe or kissing her neck. Having the creativity of an artist meant Bruno spun pros of passion so easily when directed towards his lover. She still swoons and blushes when he weaves naughty desires with intense declarations of love.
“I need you under me, amor, writhing in pleasure while I worship your body,” he growls, feeling how she tenses in his arms, shuddering afterwards.
“Bruno, stop it,” she now whines at him, her tinted a faint pink, only growing more intense as he continued to whisper into her ear while the party carried on, oblivious to the storm of sexual tension building between the quiet couple.
“Perdóneme,” a voice interrupted them, cutting Bruno off mid-sentence.
They stopped swaying, turning to see a man, perhaps in his early thirties, standing in front of them. He offers his hand to his wife, nodding to Bruno briefly. She hesitates, obviously confused by this man.
“May I steal the lady for a dance, señor Madrigal?” he asks, his warm smile showing off a row of sparkling teeth.
“Oh,” she chirps, obviously surprised as she smiles politely, but remains still.
“My wife,” Bruno emphasizes, moving his body so that she stood partially behind him, blocking half of her body from the man’s view, “is actually not feeling very well, I was just about to take her upstairs to rest,” he says, his tone cool and collected, but she knew him well enough to notice the tension in his shoulders and the slight grit in his jaw.
“Ah, of course, my apologies,” the man nods, deflating at the refusal, “I wish you a fast recovery, señora,” he adds respectfully before walking away from them.
He feels her looking at him before he sees it, already prepared for the slight scowl and questioning arched brow. Pulling him aside, they found a quiet hallway free of other guests where they could talk. She crossed her arms over her chest, smirking. He felt a small bit of relief knowing she wasn’t mad at him.
“What was that about?” she finally asks after waiting for him to explain himself.
He shrugs begrudgingly, dropping his gaze to the floor. “I just didn’t like the look of him,” he muttered, his hands slipping into his pockets as he slouched a bit into himself.
“Bruno, he was nothing but respectful, what actually bothered you?” she asks with a chuckle, tugging him by his shirt sleeve closer.
They were both silent as she took a step back, pressing her shoulder blades into the wall and pulling him forward until his chest brushed the lace accents on her dress. She stared at him with wide eyes, a mischievous and almost cocky smirk contrasting the innocent gaze. Lifting his arms, he planted both palms flat on the wall on either side of her head, enclosing her space further.
“You’ve never gotten jealous before,” she commented, toying with the top button on his shirt, undoing it and the one right below until a small patch of his dark chest hair poked past the fabric.
“Call me selfish, but I don’t ever want anyone else to touch you,” he growled, his gaze sharp and glowing faintly as he leaned in and traced a line with his tongue from her pulse to her earlobe, chuckling darkly when she exhales a shuttered breathe.
“Bruno, don’t say such things, I can’t control myself when you talk like that,” she cooed before biting her lip seductively, batting her lashes and pushing her chest up and into his to emphasize her breasts.
“Mi dulce conejita,” he sighs, brushing his nose along her temple, closing his eyes and dragging his hands down from her shoulders to her waist, nimbly gathering the fabric at her hip and slipping his hand underneath, caressing the soft, warm skin of her thigh.
“You’re going to get us in trouble,” she teases, but continues to lean into his teasing caress.
“Maybe you’re worth it,” he replied against her neck, biting more frequently now.
“Ah,” she gasps when the hand that had been squeezing and rubbing her thigh slipped past the hem of her underwear, his long and nimble fingers rubbing at her clit.
“Oh, you’re enjoying this,” he chuckled darkly, feeling her practically dripping, “does the risk turn you on, conejita, hm? The chance of getting caught so exposed with your husband’s hand under your skirt getting you excited? Que traviesa,” he smirked, adding more pressure to her clit as she whined into his shoulder.
“Bruno, please,” she chokes out, her nails digging into his forearm as she grinds into his palm.
“What is it, mi vida? Do you want to cum like this, on my hand? Let everyone in this house know you’re only mine to touch?” he thought aloud, doubling his efforts as her breath became more ragged.
“I need…inside, ah, Bruno, please, please,” she gasps, eyes squeezed shut as she lightly ruts against his hand.
“You want my fingers inside?” he asks, already knowing the answer, just wanting to see her get more worked up for him.
“Yes, yes, yes,” she’s practically sobbing as the intensity of her release grew and grew, “I need you, please Bruno, mi amor,” she whines.
“Such a good girl, asking so sweetly,” he said with a smirk, slipping his middle finger into her pulsing heat.
“Oh, f-fuck…yes, yes, yes,” she begins to pant, her movements becoming more frantic as he slips in his index finger and begins stroking her walls, brushing that spot deep inside her that would bring her release.
“Let go, amor, mierda, I could finish just by watching you come undone like this,” he groaned, rutting his crotch against her thigh as she trembled against him, eyes shut tight as her mouth opened partially in a silent gasp.
Bruno kissed her passionately when he recognized the telltale signs of her approaching end. She cried out against his mouth, her whole body jerking and shuddering as she came around his fingers, her legs wobbling slightly until he used his free hand to help support her.
“Such a good girl,” he praises her, slowly removing his fingers from her heat, admiring the shiny slick coating his hand.
“Only for you,” she purrs, bringing his hand to her mouth and sucking his fingers clean, slowly and seductively, her eyes never leaving his as she cleans his fingers thoroughly.
“I married quite the temptress,” he groaned, pressing his aching length into her leg.
“I’m sure they wouldn’t miss us if we got some air for a bit,” she suggested, toying with his belt buckle.
“Definitely not,” he eagerly agreed, grabbing her hand and quickly leading her upstairs before anyone could notice.
Thankfully the band drowned out most of the noise in the house, the lull of the partygoers drowning out the passionate noises of a couple lost in the throes of desire, frantic and primal, their few minutes of air quickly turning into hours of wanton pleasure as the night turned to morning.

Change the future part 3
Tumblr media
part 1
a/n: Still on hiatus, just wanted to post something on the triplets' birthday
a/n2: I don’t even know what ship is this about anymore
__________________________
"At some point you're going to have to talk to her about this"
"But that won’t be today, Pepa"
Julieta said as she continued to cook, deliberately ignoring the way her pulse raced and her nerves stood on edge. She didn't even need to turn around to know that her sister was rolling her eyes as she leaned against the door frame. She knew the redhead was right, but she didn't have the will or the courage to face this thing she had been running from for weeks and only one thought lived rent free in her mind.
Y/N’s back.
Her head was spinning just remembering the moment she saw you again. You were thinner, you had more gray hair, and a couple of new wrinkles around your eyes, but you were still her Y/N, warm, simple, and unbelievably beautiful.
She didn't like to admit that she probably would have thrown herself into your arms without thinking if it weren't for Isabela, who had been faster than her. Things hadn’t been easy for her and her two remaining daughters, so the moment they saw you appear over the hill, the three of them had run out of the house not caring that the rest of the family looked at them in confusion.
Isabela didn't even bother to slow her run before she crashed into the open arms you offered her and your joyous laughter made her stomach feel weird, as if thousands of butterflies woke up inside her. You had shared many things in your letters during all those years, and for that time, Julieta allowed herself to think that it was enough, but the universe showed her how wrong she was when, having you in front of her once more, her heart seemed to cry happy tears, as if a piece of her had finally come back to complete her puzzle.
She didn't have time to think about it though, not when her precious Mirabel, now so big and beautiful, lunged at her, hiding her face in her neck, crying and telling her how much she had missed her. It took her brain a moment to recognize that the young woman in her arms was, in fact, her youngest daughter, her baby, but once that settled in her mind, it was like all the weight of the world was finally lifted from her shoulders.
"You're so beautiful, mija" she whispered, not even bothering to stop the tears that ran down her cheeks.
Mirabel had smiled waterily at her, whispering a soft thank you and saying again how much she had missed her. The girl dulled in her mother’s scent for a while, just trying to find the comfort she needed when she left so many years ago, and sighed happily before gasping and pulling away from her to run to the person behind her.
"Tía Pepa!!"
The brunette barely had a few seconds to laugh at the way her daughter was scooped up by the redhead before she herself was tackled by two familiarly strange and warm bodies.
"Tía Juli, look! I'm almost as tall as you!"
"Tía, tía, tía, I already know how to cook! And look! I cut my hair!"
"We brought you presents!"
"But mine are better because I love you more"
"Not true! I love her more!"
"No, I love her more!"
Julieta only managed to laugh softly while Joaquín and María clung to each of her arms and fought for her attention; they had five years of conversations to catch up with her after all. It really felt like time hadn't passed, even though your children were no longer the little babies she saw leaving that night. And then there was you.
You, who had smiled at her with complicity from your own tangle of hugs with Luisa and Isabela, you, who had been her rock, her pillar, and her cane even when you were so far away. You, who were stirring her entire being with your mere presence. You, who had approached her, hugged her when your children still held her arms hostage. You, who had whispered in her ear that little confession that haunted her dreams.
"I was dying to see you again, Eta...I missed you so much"
At that time, she had simply wriggled out of your children's grasp and returned the gesture, trying not to get lost on your warmth (even if she really wanted to cry), having you there was a huge relief, and all the stress and anxiety that had been eating at her insides for years was finally beginning to dissipate, her usually tormented mind was quickly being filled with a single thought: you were here.
"I missed you too" she managed to say, looking into your eyes with a small smile
"Yes, yes, will you get out of here please? There are people who also want to greet Y/N”
Julieta blinked a bit as her sister pulled her away from you and she didn't miss the way you looked at her half amused and half confused before returning Pepa's tight hug. She couldn't blame you, her sister had never been as close to you as she was, but she supposed that after everything that had happened since you left, the redhead's conception of you had changed. Well, at least you knew you had both of your sisters-in-law on your side.
“It's good to see you again, Pepa” you said as you separated “You haven't aged a bit…you don't even have gray hair! I need to know your secret"
"Oh, Y/N" she laughed "it's good to have you back"
"Her secret is to annoy me so that I’m the one getting gray hair and not her'' Julieta joked, crossing her arms.
You looked between the sisters while Pepa rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue at the brunette, a gesture that the older triplet returned. Your mind struggled to catch up on it all, because you really couldn't remember the last time you'd seen them tease each other so openly, it was pretty cute.
The rest of the meeting was pretty adorable too. Joaquín and María used Félix as a climbing pole, while the man just laughed, Luisa and Isabela told you as much as they could, asking you questions while you tried to pay attention to both of them. Julieta thought that her daughter would ask about Agustín, or that she would be upset with her for their divorce, but Mirabel was quick to give her a hug and assure her that she didn't blame her or cared about him.
The brunette didn't have to wonder much where her youngest daughter was learning to handle the situation, because at that moment you intervened, gently squeezing the girl's shoulder.
"He couldn't bear to lose a daughter so he abandoned the other two? Math ain mathin" you said.
Julieta had just smiled gratefully at you as you winked at her, and for a moment everything felt good, like things were really starting to go back to normal, the way they should be. And then…then you saw Bruno.
The moment your eyes locked on the man hiding behind his mother would never leave her mind. Your eyes, which had been filled with warmth and kindness to everyone, turned cold and filled with a deep sadness that you desperately tried to disguise as disgust. And yet, she couldn't even pretend that she felt bad for her brother.
"Y/N" the man greeted awkwardly, forcing a guilty smile "...you look good."
"Bruno" you answered dryly
The air was charged with an intense tension that everyone could feel in their bones, as if it could be cut with a knife, or as if one wrong move could shatter such a surreal scene into a thousand pieces.
"It's good to see you again"
"I wish I could say the same"
Julieta felt in her own chest the dagger that you were burying on Bruno, who at least had the decency to look at the ground with remorse, but she knew you better.
It wasn't that you wanted to be cruel to the man you had loved more than life, but precisely that love you had for him had hurt you too much, it had destroyed you and it had hurt your children too. You were only trying to protect the hearts you had worked so hard to repair.
"What are you doing here?" Alma asked, looking at you with hate
"I came to see my family" you answered with the most neutral voice you could, but your hands were shaking
"This is no longer your family"
"Mom-" the older triplet tried to intervene.
"You shut up!" The older woman yelled, making everyone jump "Wasn't it enough for you to help this damn woman break the family?! Now you welcome her back with open arms?! After she stole my grandchildren?! Your own daughter?!"
"I didn't steal anyone! They are my children" you defended yourself.
You really didn't want to cause a scene, especially with all the children present, and because more than once you had to comfort Mirabel after waking up to the recurring nightmare involving her grandmother yelling at her. But that woman drove you mad with extreme ease.
"They would have been better here!" Alma replied "Away from your wicked hands. They belonged here, they wanted to stay here!"
"That's not true! My children wanted to go with me!"
"You had no right! They are Bruno's children!"
"He abandoned them!" Julieta yelled, making everyone look at her.
She could feel her heart racing, blood pooling in her cheeks, and a single look at her brother told her that she had finished erasing the faint ghost of what had once been her relationship with him, but she didn't care.
She couldn't care, not when she could see out of the corner of her eye how Mirabel was hiding behind you, how Isabela tried her best to appear calm but her hands moved as if she could still command an army of plants to defend her sisters.
Not when she could see Pepa and Felix trying to create a weak barrier with their bodies between their children and Alma, when Dolores hugged Camilo as if he was a little child in the hope that no one would hurt her brother again.
And especially not when she could feel your own fear, sadness, and despair as Joaquín and María clung to her own sides, suddenly terrified of who had once been a loving grandmother to them. Everything was wrong, everything was damaged beyond repair, there was nothing left for her to break, but she still had a family, a broken one, but a family nonetheless and she had to protect them, no matter from whom.
"How dare you talk about your brother like that?" Alma whispered dangerously "how dare you when you allowed your daughter to be kidnapped?!" that seemed to wake you up.
"Bruno left without saying anything, without caring about us, Julieta just protected us, all of us" you said, placing a hand on your sister-in-law's shoulder.
You didn't know if it was a bad choice of words or action, perhaps both, but you could see the moment when your mother-in-law's eyes flashed with an intense fire fueled by hatred and resentment. You barely managed to see her hand in the air and by intuition you closed your eyes, waiting for the blow.
"Don't you ever dare-"
 But it never came.
"IT'S ENOUGH!"
You opened your eyes to see Julieta holding Alma's hand firmly, preventing it from getting to you. Julieta, the golden daughter of the Madrigal family, the sweetest and most loving woman you'd ever meet, defying the woman who once commanded respect with her mere presence. Although, was it really respect? Or was it fear? You thought that, deep down, it was the latter.
It really was a surreal scene, as if everything was frozen around you. But a voice in the back of your mind told you that it shouldn't surprise you so much, after all, this was also the woman who had made one of the most difficult decisions of her life in order to protect her daughter, the one who had broken blood ties in order to keep the rest of her family safe, the one who, no matter how much it hurt her to be separated from her brother and mother, still got up every day for the others’ sake.
No, it definitely shouldn't surprise you that if anyone had the strength to face Alma and everything that entailed, it was precisely the one who was once the brightest star in the family constellation.
Julieta Madrigal was many things, beautiful, brave, strong, maternal, affectionate and loyal, but she also hid a wolf inside her, one that was already fed up with seeing how her pack was threatened. She was ready to get the fangs out, and you were beginning to see why the rest had trusted her to be the head of the family.
"You insolent-"
"I SAID THAT’S ENOUGH!" the brunette growled, still holding her mother's hand "I've been patient with you, mother, but not anymore."
You could hear a couple of gasps behind you, and you weren't too surprised when Pepa approached you like a scared little girl while Mirabel hugged her. If you didn't know that the miracle was gone, you would think that the icy wind that enveloped you was your sister-in-law’s fault.
"Let go, Julieta-"
"I'm not going to let you talk like that to Y/N" she replied, you could see that she was squeezing the older woman's hand tightly, and from Alma's expression, it was obvious that it hurt, but it seemed like no one could move as you witnessed "the next time you raise your hand to her, me, or anyone in this family, it will be the last time you have a family"
That was a sentence that you yourself could feel in your bones. There was absolutely no trace of compassion or kindness in the older triplet's voice, nor did it leave any doubt that she would keep her word. It was a perfect ultimatum, one that even Alma seemed to understand, because she didn't utter a word as her daughter released her and walked back to the house.
The rest of you looked at each other for a few seconds before Pepa, with Mirabel still in her arms, went after her sister, causing the rest to follow her, including your children, who passed by Bruno without even looking at him, and ran to reach the hands of their favorite aunt. Your mother-in-law just muttered something about going with the Guzmáns and she walked away, disappearing into the night.
Only you and Bruno were left, both looking at each other with surprise, doubt and a little fear. Your eyes seemed to ask a thousand questions but neither of you understood what they were. In the end, you simply sighed and lightly hugged the man who, you must have reminded yourself, was still your husband.
"This wasn't how I expected tonight to go" you confessed lightly.
"It was something that was destined to happen" he whispered "if this didn't explode before it was only because Juli always had the patience of a saint... but I guess everything has a limit"
"I'm so sorry" you said to yourself, guilt beginning to rise in you "if I hadn't-"
"Don't, it wasn't because of you" he smiled a little "...things have been tense between them since before I even met you."
"Really?" you frowned "but...it seemed like she was the favorite daughter"
"She was the closest to the perfect doll mom had in mind" he corrected you "And it only got worse when we turned 5"
"When you got the gifts?"
"Yes" he sighed and looked at his hands "Pepa and I suffered a lot for our gifts, but we always knew that Julieta had it worse"
"Why?"
"Because she's the one who looks the most like dad" he answered, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world "If she hadn't been born a woman, I assure you, she would be his living portrait"
You thought about it for a moment. You had seen Pedro Madrigal's portrait many times, and although you had never paid much attention to physical details, you had always believed that he radiated a warmth that you only knew from his eldest daughter. It made sense that Alma would have seen the ghost of her late husband in her, and at that moment, something clicked on you.
"And Julieta's gift allowed her to help the community like no one else could" you looked him in the eye "Despite the exhaustion and fatigue, she was always ready to help others... like your father"
"That's right" he agreed.
"But...her gift made her absorb others’ pain" you continued, with the pieces falling into place in your mind quickly "she was in constant suffering...Alma made her reenact Pedro's sacrifice every day"
"And Pepa and I couldn't do anything"
You looked at Bruno for a moment. Despite being the youngest, he looked terribly tired, his eyes swam in deep sadness, his hands trembled and he looked incredibly fragile. Your heart forgot all about anger and disappointment, and was quickly filled with the same affection you had felt for him the first time you met him, a tender and childish love, pure and sincere. He was a brother who felt guilty for not protecting his sister.
"You love her" you said, it wasn't a question.
"As you don't have an idea" he answered anyway "when I came back, it was her arms that I wanted to feel, not mom's" he admitted "but she was furious with me, and with good reason. I shouldn't have left, I shouldn't have left you or the children, I shouldn't have allowed mom to treat Mirabel like that...I should have done things differently...but that doesn't matter now"
You looked at him sympathetically and put a hand on his shoulder so that he looked at you. He seemed so lost, like a kid who has broken something and didn't know how to apologize to mom. Yes, there were too many things that maybe he could have done differently, you too. But that no longer mattered, time was not going to come back and all you could do was start walking towards the best option you had now, and you both knew that that option had a name.
"Have you tried talking to her?" you asked softly
"Mom is always by my side" he said "And I n-never have the courage to talk to her when we're alone, I…I just don't want her to hate me more"
"She doesn't hate you" you said immediately "she could never hate you... you're her baby brother, and we both know that deep down, there will always be a place in her heart for you, no matter how hard Alma tries to keep you from getting back on good terms with her."
"I feel like I've failed her too much" he murmured, looking at the ground "It doesn't matter what I do anymore, our relationship is broken beyond repair...B-but I love her, that's why I try to keep mom busy with me and leave the rest of us alone. I love her and Pepa, and-and I love our family, my nephews, my nieces, my children...and you"
Your cheeks warmed at the last words, and by the way his eyes looked everywhere but at you, you knew he hadn't expected that confession to slip out of him either, at least not at the moment. You smiled and hugged him again, trying not to let the discomfort touch you.
"Talk to her, Bruno" you said "I'm sure you can fix things...so can we" you smiled
He looked at you hopefully and slowly smiled back, walking silently beside you as you went back to the house. You both knew this wasn't a mend, that there was still too much going on between you, but at least you were headed in the right direction. After all, you'd already fallen in love with him once, who said it couldn't happen twice?
______________________
Except that the first time you hadn't had your sister-in-law's face on your mind, nor had you had a little five-year-old nephew rock your entire world with a simple question.
You really couldn't blame the little guy. Antonio was just a child trying to catch up with the changing situation of his family, he was learning to live with some cousins and an aunt he never knew and you knew you had to be patient with his questions.
You had to admit that he was adorable, and despite Pepa's teasing, it was nice to have him behind you all day. Joaquín and María had become his best friends immediately and it was obvious that he was replacing your son as Mirabel's favorite cousin.
Speaking of your children, both of them were making a titanic effort to stay away from their grandmother, but they were spending more and more time with their father, which seemed to be the first steps towards Bruno becoming part of the "good side" of the family again, as the children liked to call it.
Your relationship with him was still in the mending process, but at least you could say you were friends again, which seemed to relieve Pepa, one less battle to fight between her siblings, you guessed.
The problem was Julieta.
She was still your favorite sister-in-law and your best friend, without a doubt, but things were starting to get weird for you when you realized that she was slowly becoming your favorite person too. You seemed unable to stop your smile every time you saw her and your heart raced when you heard her laugh.
It was a terribly familiar and terrifying feeling, because you knew that she shouldn't have that effect on you, that you shouldn't feel with her what you once felt with Bruno. And yet you couldn't stop.
As much as you tried to lie to yourself, it was obvious that you were always trying to be with her, whether it was helping her cook or just chatting with her over coffee, it didn't matter, you just wanted to be close to her. You felt bad for a while, but then you started noticing the way she would blush every time you smiled at her or how she would look at you when she thought you weren't paying attention.
You were both playing a dangerous game, but it somehow felt so…natural, like that was the only logical path for you. You didn't expect that to be confirmed by the miracle itself.
It was one afternoon when, a few days after finishing the reconstruction of Casita, you and Julieta were sitting in the kitchen, just talking, you were telling her about the first dress that Mirabel made when Camilo ran in, his eyes full of emotion and fear in equal measure.
"Tías, you have to come quickly" he told you
"What's going on?" Julieta asked, even as you both were already getting up
"You have to see it for yourself"
You and the brunette looked at each other curiously for a second before hurrying after your older nephew. The rest of the family was already there and you only had to look in the same direction to understand the commotion. The candle was back.
Well, not exactly. The candle itself was there, but it was out. Still, you knew what that could mean for your family, you knew what they could get back if they managed to make it shine again. The question was, how?
"Mom, you have to take it" Mirabel said excitedly
"What?"
"Think about it Juli" Pepa agreed "you're the new head of the family, you should be the one to protect the candle now... right?"
"I… I guess"
Julieta looked at you for a moment, and you could see the doubt and anxiety in her eyes, so you just smiled and nodded, hoping that was enough comfort for her. The brunette returned your smile before approaching the candle. Her hands trembled and you did not doubt that memories of when she received her gift, more than 45 years ago, passed through her mind.
You all held your breath as the older triplet's hands carefully took hold of the candle and a current passed through you. It was soft and warm, just like a tickle. You waited a moment, but nothing else happened. You could see the disappointment in the rest of the family, especially the brunette, but they all faked supportive smiles.
"Maybe we need to call-"
"No Juli, we don't need her"
You were a bit surprised by Pepa's tone, but you could understand. Alma hadn't been back since the night you returned to Encanto, taking refuge with the Guzmans ever since. It hurt a little that this distanced Dolores from Mariano, but no one could deny that everyone breathed more peace since she was gone. It didn't seem strange to you that they refused to call her now.
"It's because tía Y/N isn’t close" Antonio said suddenly, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world
"Excuse me?" you blinked
"Abuela's candle was lit because Abuelo loved her" the boy explained.
You all looked at him like he was growing another head, but deep down, you all wanted to know the reasoning behind that little head. After all, the little ones always have the most creative solutions.
"What does that have to do with tía Y/N, Antonio?" Mirabel asked softly
"Tía Y/N loves tía Julieta" he said "the candle has to light if she's around her girlfriend, right?"
You didn't even need Dolores' gift to hear a pin drop, not when the room was deathly silent. You looked at Julieta out of the corner of your eye and you could see that her face was redder than a tomato, and you doubted that you were better. Your heart was racing like crazy, your hands were sweating and you could feel the anxiety building up in you.
How could a five-year-old boy understand better than you the forbidden feelings that had been blooming in you for your sister-in-law? Had you been too obvious? Did the others notice it too? God, you didn't even want to look at Bruno.
"Mami! mami!"
María's voice brought you out of your thoughts and you looked at her worriedly. Your daughter just looked at you in amazement and pointed with her little hand to the place where your attention should be. You hadn't even realized that you had approached Julieta, but now you were facing each other, with the candle between you and a small flame sprouting.
“It can’t be” you heard Isabela whispering while Pepa gasped
The moment you took a step back, the small flame went out. The brunette looked at you for a second before slowly approaching you again, causing the candle to relight. It wasn't a strong, magical glow like the one it had before the whole disaster, but it was a promise that you’d get the miracle back.
Except that neither you nor Julieta wanted to think about what the miracle was asking of you, or what that meant for both of you and your respective families.

3 - Forgotten Date
Prompt: #3 “That was not my intention”
Fandom: Encanto (Disney)
Word Count: 513 words
Summary: You forgot your date with Isabella.
Tumblr media
Isabella could feel the frustration swirling throughout her soul as she stares at you sitting near a tree and reading a book. Her jaw clenches and her hands take a tighter grip on her arms, a few cactuses popping out of the floor near her feet. She stands afar, hoping you’ll remember the date you had set up with her an hour ago and look up in her direction, but you only carefully turn the page of your book, and that’s enough to set her off.
“(Y/N)!”
She screams out your name, marching towards your form with an angry step. It worsens when you don’t even seem to give her a glance, simply continuing to read your book until she’s standing tall in front of you, her shadow covering your frame entirely. You blink a few times, almost confused as to why the sun suddenly disappeared, then you look up at her.
“Hey, Isabella.” You give out a soft smile; though, you rapidly lose it when you notice cactuses prickles pouring out of her skin. “Whoa… are you okay? What’s going on?”
“What’s going on?” She glares at you, and her jaw starts to hurt. “I’ll give you a few seconds to think about that.”
A few seconds of silence pass by where you simply stare at her in confusion. Then, a flash goes through your mind, and your eyes widen with shock and guilt.
“Oh, our date…!” You notice how your words only seem to make Isabella’s mood worse, and you immediately let go of your book to stand up. “I’m so sorry.”
She pushes your hands away, then points at you with her upper lip snarling up. “I waited for you for an hour.”
“I know! I’m so sorry! I completely forgot…” She scoffs and turns her head, not quite wanting to look at you. “I’m so sorry for making you wait this long. That was not my intention…”
“Yeah, you better be sorry.” She glares at the horizon, chewing the inside of her cheeks. “I was really looking forward to spend some time with you.”
“I know…” You grab her hands, forcing her to uncross her arms, and you tilt your head at her. “I’m really sorry… Will you look at me?”
Her heart softens at the sound of your pleading voice, and she reluctantly looks back at you. You give her a soft smile as soon as she does, and you let go of her hands to gently hold the sides of her face. Heat spreads on her cheeks as soon as you press your lips against hers, and her hands unconsciously search for your back to hug.
“I’m really sorry.” You whisper those words after you part away, looking into her eyes with love and guilt. “Will you forgive me? I promise to make it up to you.”
“… fine.” She grumbles, not quite wanting that the kiss was enough to make her forget what happened. “But if you do something like that again…”
“I won’t.” You softly kiss her forehead, making her sigh in relief. “I promise.”

Out of Control
Madrigal!reader x Pepa + Dolores (platonic!)
Tumblr media
You couldn’t really figure out what was going on. Everyone seemed angry or confused, and the argument at the dinner table just made everything worse. You tried to suppress how frightened you felt but you made your glass of water overflow, which soon spread to everyone else’s glasses overflowing as well, creating a small puddle of water on the ground.
Your mother, Pepa, gave you a sharp warning look, a thick black cloud appearing above her head. This was why you tried to bottle up everything you felt inside you. Your mother was so emotional so no one had an inch of room to deal with yours as well. You had to hide it from everyone, pretend to be calm and stoic when underneath you were anything but.
Sat with your eyes screwed up as tightly as possible, hands over your ears, you tried to block out everyone until you suddenly heard your sister Dolores' voice and for a moment everything was silent. Reluctantly you lowered your hands and opened your eyes, only to receive a drop of water in them from the rain that your mother was beginning to produce. The awkwardness in the air felt electrified, and before you could add your growing puddle to your mother's storm, you fled to your room.
There you stayed, lying on your back on your bed which was a little rowing boat filled with blankets and pillows until the door to your room opened by itself and you heard raised voices coming through. Soon you found Mirabel and Abuela arguing, with other members of your family also making their way to see what was going on.
Everyone seems out of control, some of your family like Isabela had stronger powers, and some like Luisa were losing theirs. You felt the rumble as a large crack formed in the foundations of Casita, and you couldn't hide your distress any longer. Water gushed out from where you stood, your fear of not being in control of anything in your life anymore only hastened the flood that was being conjured.
Your tumultuous waves helped Mirabel get up to the candle, but in the chaos as Casita came crashing down you got your leg stuck on part of the crumbling wall and you got sucked under by your whirlpool of water. You struggled as best you could, coughing and spluttering when the waves gave you just enough time to take a breath.
Exhaustion soon set in as you fought against your own gift, and you eventually went under the water and didn't come back up again. Casita lay in ruins and the family were desperately wading through your flood water to try and find Mirabel. Dolores, however, quickly noticed that you weren't among the remainder of your family members and called out to you.
With the loss of your powers the water had calmed down, as you emotions were no longer conjuring more or controlling the rough waves. Realising this, you held your breath as long as possible while raising your arms to break above the water and thrash about, desperately hoping Dolores would hear or see your movement.
"We're coming!" Dolores called out as soon as she spotted it, grabbing Pepa's arm and dragging her along. "Keep waving, Y/N! We're almost there!" Your mother was now wading through the murky waters quicker than Dolores, both of them trying their best to reach you in time.
Your waves began to slow as you ran out of air, you arms soon sinking back down into the water as the bubbles from the breath you so valiantly held rushed up to the surface. "No! Hold on!" Pepa cried out, using her arms to blindly fish around for a part of you.
Her fingers soon clumsily grasped your arm and she began to try and tug you free from your watery grave, Dolores soon joining in and helping. Luckily, it did not take long with the pair of them working together to set you free.
You breached the surface of the water and immediately coughed up the water that had began to enter your throat. Pepa rubbed your back soothingly, trying to help you hack up all the water you had swallowed. She was slightly impaired by Dolores grasping you firmly in a hug. "Don't you dare ever do that again, Y/N." Dolores whispered in your ear. "I'll try not to, hermana." You replied, your eyes overflowing with tears.
The following days were scary, and you struggled to continue life and help rebuild Casita without your powers. Soon, however, Casita was rebuilt, the magic was restored and your water manipulation soon returned. Once the celebrations were over, your mother pulled you aside for a quiet chat in her room. It was a well overdue discussion about both you own and her emotions, and how they could both be felt and controlled in a way that didn't suppress them. The knowledge of how to use your emotions to your advantage unlocked a whole new ability in you, and the knowledge that it was okay to release your emotion gave you the new lease of life you never knew you needed.

Tumblr media
You walked Isabela home after a long day of running errands in town. She held your hand in hers as you two walked side by side. She was acting a bit strange, her usual happy demeanor now very tired and burnt out. It looked like the poor girl needed a break. After all, she hadn’t taken a day off since the rebuild of Casita, which was about 6 months ago.
You two met during the rebuild of the girl’s home actually, and you both hit it off immediately. Her family was glad that she had found someone that made her so happy and that she was finally able to be herself, but they couldn’t help but think your odd behavior and the fact that you walked around barefoot was strange. Well, not everyone in her family was glad. The town matriarch, Alma Madrigal seemed to have a problem with you. According to your girlfriend, Alma claimed that you were “a bad influence”. You were pulled out of your train of thought when you stepped on a rock and pain pierced through your foot.
“Ahh shit, ow!” you winced, breaking the comforting silence you and Isa shared.
The girl looked over at you worriedly, her eyebrows raised and eyes wide, her face plastered with worry. She stopped walking to make sure you were okay.
“Are you alright?” she asked, squeezing one your hands tighter as she used her other hand to cover her slightly gaping mouth.
You nodded “Just hurt my foot again, stepping on a rock” you said, embarrassed.
Your lizard, Pipo, was on your girlfriend’s shoulder and his sudden movement made you look away from the girl and towards your pet. He stared at you and you could’ve sworn he looked worried and wanted to make sure you were okay.
Isabela shook her head as you two continued to walk and she pulled your hand, swerving you away from any seemingly rocky areas in the road “See?! This is why I told you that it’s dangerous to walk around barefoot!!!”
Watching her pull your hand from side to side to avoid any rocks that could hurt your fragile feet, you giggled. Isabela showed her love for you in little ways like this, and it was just so adorable.
When you two finally reached the bridge that led to her home you stopped.
“Isa” you said, pulling your arm back to signal her to stop walking. The girl looked back, confused as to why you both had stopped when you were about to get to her house.
“Yes?” she asked, eyes as curious as ever and her expression filled with worry and a hint of tiredness.
“Are you okay? Like are you feeling fine? You seem a bit…. off” you said, hesitantly. The girl sighed, taking both of your hands as she fully turned herself around to face you.
“Well, sort of… it’s just that I-” she let out another tired sigh, struggling to say what was on her mind “Everything’s just been a little too much lately and I’m tired. Tired of all of it.” Her hands dropped to her lap in frustration and she looked down at the ground, tension building in her muscles.
You took her face in your hands and you tapped the area under your eyes, trying to signal her to look at you. Caressing her cheek softly, you pulled her in for a hug and the familiar scent of flower petals filled your nose. You smiled when she returned your embrace, hugging you tightly as she nuzzled her face into your neck. The two of you stood there for a few minutes, allowing the loud silence between you two to work its magic. Thankfully in that moment, you came up with a bright idea.
“Hey…” you said, smirking a bit as the girl’s tired and aching body rested on yours.
“Hm?” she responded tiredly, almost as if she was going to doze off. The vibration of her hum spread throughout your body, making your heart skip a little. You would’ve thought she had already fallen asleep if she wasn’t playing with the hem of your shirt.
“What do you say we go for a little getaway in our secret garden, just you and me? After all, you haven’t been there in a while” you asked.
Isabela jolted in your warm embrace and let out a dramatic gasp before she pulled away. She thought it was such a good idea, after all, it had been a good 2 months since she went to visit your garden.
“You’re genius! Yes of course!” she said, happily “We cannot abandon our responsibility as plant moms” she continued, now very serious. It seemed like she was truly invested in this.
You giggled “So it’s settled then? I’ll take you for some sightseeing too, like the stuff I show you in my drawings?” you asked.
The girl nodded her head before grabbing your face and giving you a bunch of little kisses.
“You’re so so so smart and you always know the best ways to cheer me up!” the girl exclaimed, her mood completely changing from what it was about 30 seconds ago. You couldn’t help but smile at the sight. Her previously tired eyes were now filled with happiness and her tired expression was now filled with excitement as if she was a child.
Her cheeks tinted pink as she squealed and ran in circles around you, speaking in a sing song voice “I’m gonna see my garden, with my beautiful girlfriend, who’s so amazinggggggg!” she exaggerated the ‘g’ in amazing way too much there, but it was so cute. You laughed as you watched her act like a child. She was just so precious and sweet, how could you not wanna squish and kiss her everywhere?
“How’s the progress with the flowers? Have our orchids grown since the last time I was there?” Isa asked, taking your hands as her eyes gleamed with a newfound happiness you had never seen.
“Well…” you started, tapping your chin with your finger “There’s only one way to find out… and that’s if you come to see it for yourself!” you told her this, winking at her as Pipo jumped from her to you, climbing up your shirt to make itself comfortable on your shoulder. It seemed as if it had agreed with your statement and wanted to sit with you to prove his agreement with your words.
The girl rolled her eyes adoringly “Fine, if you insist. I’ll see you tomorrow then?”
You nodded and Isabela gave you a quick peck on the lips before she skipped the rest of the way home contently, flower petals trailing behind her, the girl’s mind clouded with the possibilities of what tomorrow would bring. You stood at the bridge that divided the home from the town, watching her joy filled smile blow you a kiss before she entered her home, closing the door behind her.
-
It was finally the next day, and all you thought about was your amazing girlfriend and how fun sightseeing was going to be with her. You were in the plaza, painting the busy atmosphere and the buzzing people around you. Every stroke of your brush made you more and more restless. After all, she hadn’t seen the progress on all the new things you planted. Pipo sat on your shoulder and crawled down your arm, examining your art piece. You grabbed him gently and placed him back to his previous spot, returning to your train of thought.
Trying to return to your day dream, you were interrupted by the sudden view of a sunflower in your face. The comforting scent filled your nose and the sight of the yellow flower made you smile because you immediately knew who it was. Turning around, you pretended to be shocked to see your beautiful girlfriend standing there. A huge, genuine smile was plastered on her face, her dark skin glowing from the relentless sun, and her signature headpiece made her seem so lively and free. Seeing your smile, she laughed adorably at the sight of you, tucking the flower behind your ear. The sound of her laugh was so refreshing and it took your breath away.
“So…” Isa said, taking your hand “Ready to go?”
You didn’t think it was possible, but your smile grew even wider. You looked down at the ground, one of your hands stroking the back of your neck, and you laughed like a doting teenager in love.
“Yes” you told her, gathering your painting supplies and she helped you pick them up. Walking over to your house, she skipped alongside you and you watched the wind ruffle her hair and an unwavering smile remain on her face. After dropping your supplies off at home, you two made your way to the garden you shared, on the outskirts of the encanto.
-
Entering the garden for the first time in 2 months, Isabela couldn’t contain her excitement. Excited giggles and gasps escaped her as she looked at all of the progress the plants you grew together had made.
“Look at my little orchid! He’s gotten so big!” she exclaimed, kneeling down to the plant’s level.
You stood above her, admiring how happy she was “Well they aren’t so little anymore…” you smiled, thinking of other things to show her.
“Come look at our banana tree!” you grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the tree that stood 15 feet (4.6m) tall. The bananas were ripe and ready to eat. Their signature yellow color stood out when the sun shone on it.
“Wow! This is amazing!” Isa said, walking over to the tree “Can we eat them?” she asked curiously. You nodded and she reached for the banana, tippy toeing as much as she could, and grabbed two of them.
Munching on the bananas, she kept talking to you about how sweet they were and how they tasted better when you grew them yourself. You two spoke about other things you guys would like to plant in the future and without her knowledge, you jotted them down in your notebook. This would be the perfect birthday surprise for her.
After being caught up to speed on the garden’s status, you decided to take Isabela further out into the mountains to see more of the forest. You wanted to make this day as long as possible and spend as much time as you could with her.
Before you two knew it, a few hours had passed. You guys ran away from monkeys that chased you after you gave them some bananas, dodged random traps set by hunters, and maybe tried to hold yourselves back from kissing each other too much. After all, you couldn’t afford to get too distracted today. Or could you? Seriously though, she was just so… amazing. You were so in love.
You realized how quick time had passed when you found yourself at the top of a tree with Isa. You two sat on a sturdy branch and were eating some dragon fruit you guys found.
“Wow” Isa said, sighing contently “That was the most fun I’ve had in a while.”
“Yeah, me too” you responded “We should come here together more often.”
“Mhm!” your girlfriend exclaimed, taking a bite out of the fruit she was eating, making what she was saying almost seem like gibberish “Anf thenth we canf go cliff bumpimg!”
You laughed when a piece of the fruit she was eating fell out of her mouth and onto her lap. She picked it up and fed it to Pipo. Her hair was messy and wet from the falling rain, the colors on her dress more vibrant than ever, and her cheeks were tinted pink from the previously burning sun, or maybe it was her blushing. Either way, she wouldn’t admit to any of those options.
“I still have one more special place for us to go” you told her, grinning as you took your last bite of the fruit.
“And where could that be?” Isabela asked as she wiped her sticky hands on her dress. Gosh, she was such a child.
“Follow me” you said, jumping down from the tree as she followed. You took one of her hands softly and put it over her eyes as you held the other.
“Keep your eyes closed” you said.
“Is it this special that I have to cover my eyes?!” she exclaimed. You nodded but realized that she couldn’t see so you just responded with a ‘yes’ and laughed at your stupidity as you led her there.
As you began your short walk to the god forsaken place, you felt leaves crunching under your feet and the cool wind blow in your hair.
“It’s a very beautiful place and I know you’re going to love it.”
-
“Okay…” you said, facing her so you could see her reaction “You can open your eyes.”
When she opened her eyes, Isabela found herself in front of a beautiful waterfall. She walked past you a little, to the edge of the cliff. The sound of falling water crashing on the rocks filled her ears as she took a deep breath in to bask in this moment as much as she could.
“Wow!” she said, taking in the beautiful sight displayed in front of her. You two were at the top of a cliff and it was a bit windy. The waterfall stood in front of her and she watched water descend from the river above into the pool of water below. It was at least 100 foot (30m) drop. Her face was covered in total amazement. The wind blew in her hair and her dress along with it. She shivered at the cold breeze flowing through her and she stretched her arms, taking another deep inhale. The beautiful sunset casted a gorgeous yellowish orange color into the waterfall, and on to the vines alongside it. The water below was surrounded by endless hills of greenery and flowers.
“It’s perfect” your girlfriend said, turning around to face you “I… love it.”
You only responded with a smile and a light blush formed on your cheeks. Before you could say anything, Isabela cupped your cheek and pulled you in for a kiss.
It was even better than you could’ve imagined. Her pink lips that were so very soft were finally on yours, and it felt so exhilarating. Returning the kiss, you wrapped one of your hands around her waist and pulled her closer and used your other hand to caress her cheek.
Pulling away a little, your girlfriend whispered something onto your lips that almost made your knees buckle
“Thank you for doing this for me today, my flower. I love you so much.”
You chuckled in response as she continued to kiss you, her hands becoming tangled in your hair and your grip on her waist becoming tighter. Leaving a trail of kisses down your neck and onto your collarbone, she always said an ‘I love you’ between each one. You felt her soft lips smile against your skin after every time you giggled, it was so adorable. When she pulled away, you were visibly blushing, your cheeks tinted red as you bit your lip, scanning the woman’s figure.
“If you want me that badly just say it already” Isabela joked, taking your hand and leading you to the edge of the cliff, to watch the sunset.
When the sun finally set and stars decorated the night sky, you both decided it was way too late to go all the way back home so you found shelter in the cave behind the waterfall. You had been there a few times before so you knew it was safe. There was a small entrance that you two could squeeze through to go behind it. You took your sweater off and wrapped it around Isa, and if it wasn’t for her proposal to cuddle, you would’ve froze that night.
As you lied on the ground, resting your head on one of your arms, Isabela snuggled into your chest. Her warmth made contact with your skin. Relaxing a bit, you exhaled and Pipo made himself comfortable in your jacket pocket that Isa wore. She wrapped her arms around your waist and closed her eyes, the sound of the water crashing against the rocks and into the water accompanied both of your journeys into dreamland.
“Y/N?”
“Mhm” you responded, trying to make it seem you weren’t going to fall asleep just now.
“Thank you for today. I’m so happy we got to do so much together. I had a lot of fun, really.”
You smiled “I’m happy to hear that, señorita.”
Isabela giggled at your choice of words. Grabbing her hand, you brought it up to your lips and kissed it softly.
“Anything for you, princesa.”
Isabela couldn’t help but smile and feel like she was the luckiest girl in the world.
“I love you, Y/N” she said, kissing your cheek softly.
“And I love you more, my sweet Isa.”
The girl put her hand up between the two of you, wanting you to hold hands. You rolled your eyes adoringly and touched fingertips with her, going agonizingly slow to tease her. You looked down at her, watching her joyful expression as your cold hands made contact with her warm ones. Finally intertwining fingers, Isabela pulled your hand close to her and gave it one last kiss before she brought it in to the warmth of her neck.
The both of you made funny jokes, told stories, and made future plans before the two of you dozed off.
“Isa…” you said, words slurred due to your brain wavering between being awake and being asleep.
“Yes Y/N…” she responded, eyes fluttering closed as her grip on your hand never faltered. You didn’t realize that you never felt cold again after Isa started to hold your hand.
“What will your parents do if they notice you snuck out without telling them?” you asked, practically asleep at this point.
“I don’t know, Y/N…. but let’s worry about that tomorrow…. okay?”
“Yeah…. tomorrow”
Before you knew it, the both of you fell asleep in each other’s arms, behind a waterfall you had only ever been to a few times ever.
-
You woke up to the absence of Isabela’s familiar warmth. Opening your eyes, they felt tired, and your back and neck felt sore. As you sat up and stretched, your bones and joints popped and you felt your muscles very tense. You saw your girlfriend, hair messy and free, standing and watching the waterfall curiously. You walked up to her, wrapping your arms around her waist from behind.
“Oh hello, you’re awake” Isa said.
You let out a ‘hm’ before you spoke “Well of course, love. How did you sleep?”
The girl smiled before she turned around into your embrace, placing her hand on your cheek
“I slept amazing, I feel so…. refreshed.”
You smiled “I’m glad to hear that” you told her as you touched foreheads with her “What’s our plan for today?”
Isa’s happy expression changed into a worried one “I have to work in town today, and I’m sure my family has been worried sick, wondering where I’ve been.”
You frowned “I’m sure we can clear things up. Don’t worry about it Isa.”
The girl smiled “Hopefully they won’t get too angry. They already don’t like me hanging out with you…”
She watched your face change into a hurt expression as you looked down at the ground, feeling shameful “But I don’t care! That’s not gonna stop me from loving you. I promise” the girl said, putting out her pinky.
“You promise?”
“I swear it” Isa responded “On my life.”
Interlocking pinkies, your face returned to a smile and you told Isabela that it was probably best to return as soon as possible, but not without a few stops on the way back.
The poor girl was a nervous wreck the whole time you were returning home, but she tried to not let it affect her time with you.
-
When the both of you finally made it back to your girlfriend’s home, her whole family was there, about to send a search party out for the girl. When Isabela’s mother, Julieta saw her, she ran over and hugged the girl tightly.
“Mi vida where were you?! I was so worried!” The woman cupped her daughter’s face in her hands and you watched Isabela try her best to come up with any words that could help her get out of this without getting in trouble by her grandmother.
“I- I was out with Y/N, we were… exploring” Isa said, becoming a little pale.
Julieta looked over at you “Well if you’re with her then it’s okay…” she turned to you and grabbed your hands “Thank you for keeping her safe.”
You only responded with a slight nod and an awkward smile.
“What is going on here?” you heard an older woman say. Looking over, you saw your girlfriend’s grandmother, Alma. She wore a black sash, a dark pink dress, black boots, and her hair was tied in an “old woman” bun. She looked very worried but when she spotted you, her expression changed to anger.
Walking over to the both of you she cupped Isabela’s cheek and hugged her tightly “Ay mi amor, where were you? Are you hurt?”
Isabela shook her head “No Abuela. I’m okay.”
“Then do you care to tell me where you’ve been? You had me worried sick!” Alma folded her hands together, waiting for an answer.
“I was out exploring… with Y/N….” the poor girl was so afraid. Not because of what would happen to her, she was afraid of what her grandmother would say to you.
“Isabela! You know the outskirts are off limits, it’s very dangerous out there!” the old woman scolded.
“Did she make you do it?” Alma said, looking over at you in disgust. You cowered your head and looked away in embarrassment.
“I told you she was a bad influence! This girl here isn’t good enough for you! She’s just some child you claim to love she isn’t anything good she isn’t-”
“Abuela that’s enough!” Isabela cut her off “I love her and that’s that okay?! If you don’t support us there’s plenty of other people who will. I’m an adult and I can make my own decisions. I understand that you want the best for me but doing it this way isn’t right. I’m sick of you trying to dictate my life just let me live!”
She walked away from the old woman and took your hand, pulling it close to her chest.
“Do you even know her name? Know that she loves to draw? To paint? Did you know that she walks around barefoot? Did you know we have a pet lizard together? Did you know we have a secret garden in the woods that we created together Abuela? Do you know that she walks me home every night and slips me little notes under my bedroom door every morning? Did you know that she’s the one wiping my tears away every time I cry? Did you know that she loves me for me, and doesn’t force me to use my gift and act a certain way? No, you didn’t.”
Isabela looked away from her grandmother and at you teary eyed, eyes full of love and a burning passion for you.
“I love her and I’m going to spend the rest of my life with her. She is not a bad influence in any way. In fact, she’s encouraged me to become the best version of myself.”
Hearing your girlfriend say these things made you so happy. How had you gotten so lucky? She loves you so much, and she’s willing to sacrifice a lifetime of a perfect reputation for you.
Her eyes trailed down to the notebook in your hands, the one containing all of your drawings of the encanto.
“May I?” she asked, voice filled with fear.
You nodded and handed her the notebook. When she took it, her hands were slightly shaking and her face was pale. She was so nervous in this moment because she was going against a lifetime of expectations, and she had no idea what the outcome would be.
“Abuela look” Isa said calmly, showing her grandmother and her parents your drawings. Impressed gasps and ‘woah’s’ escaped them as their eyes scanned over the notebook. As Isabela flipped every page, their expressions became more and more shocked.
Finally closing the notebook, Isa held it close to her “Can’t you understand that I just want to see the world with the girl I love?”
As you watched her, the anger that previously filled you soon disappeared and you stood there, smiling like a hopeless romantic. This girl was so determined to protect who she cared about, even if it meant going against the people she loved.
Alma gasped at Isabela’s confrontation, eyes filling with tears as she sighed in defeat. She realized what she had been doing this whole time was extremely rude.
She turned to your direction and spoke “Y/N right?” the woman asked.
You nodded “Y-yes m’am.”
“Y/N…” the woman walked up to you, embarrassed of her actions.
She folded her hands in front of her as if she was praying “I want to apologize for the way I’ve treated you. If possible I would like to start over. Please forgive me.”
You stood in front of the elderly women, eyes wide in shock. Looking over to Isabela, her expression mirrored yours. Clearly, it was very unlikely for the girl’s grandmother to apologize for her wrongdoings. You no longer felt angry and agreed with her, nodding to her statement.
“I forgive you, Señora Alma. Thank you for apologizing.”
She turned to Isabela “And my sweet Isabela, I am so sorry if I’ve ever made you feel pressured to act a certain way. I just… don’t wanna lose you too.”
The girl gasped at her Abuela’s statement and hugged her “It’s okay Abuela. I forgive you.”
Alma pulled away from Isa and smiled calmly. She then turned to you and asked “Would you care to join us for dinner then? And your lizard is welcome too” she pointed her head towards her home, inviting you in.
You looked over at Isabela, who was practically flabbergasted at this turn of events. She nodded and mouthed a ‘only if you want’ so you didn’t feel pressured to say yes.
“I’d like that m’am” you smiled warmly.
“No need for formalities. You’re part of the family. Call me Alma.”
“I’d like that… Alma” you said as the woman signaled you to follow her inside.
Isabela took your hand and everyone made their way inside.
“If I’m being honest, I didn’t think she’d have a change of heart” Isa said. Pipo crawled from your shoulder to hers and she gave him a soft kiss on his head.
“Honestly… neither did I” you looked at her “Seems like miracles really can happen” you said as you bumped her hip, making your girlfriend smile. God that smile, it always had your heart fluttering. You’d do anything to keep her happy forever.
Wrapping an arm around you, she pulled you close and whispered something in your ear “Well now you’ve met my family, so you’re stuck with me.” You felt her soft lips move against your ear. It gave you chills.
“And I couldn’t be more happier, Señorita Madrigal.”
