why must everything that the text clearly states atp be misconstrued like i really dont get it he has plenty of flaws in that relationship but we, and cersei, know that he was ready to kill robert for just the disrespect of the cheating if cersei said the word. he doesnt concern himself with the personal consequences, he is reckless, detached from a lot of things, and can close his eyes at the future if he doesn’t want to acknowledge it. also the concern over the “shame” and ned type judgement feels so overestimated to me atp. he never regrets aerys, he is mad at how he is perceived (but again, notably doesnt try to rectify it by telling the truth for a lot of complex reasons), but he would never take it back. if he believes its the right thing to do, and is not overdosing on copium trying to juggle vows he cares about, he will do it, reputation be damned. though he has selfish concerns regarding being viewed as good, the internal matters so much more than the external: see weirwood dream: who actually shows up? what makes the fire go out? “it was not him. it was never him”, see the trebuchet fiasco, see the choice in adwd. why shouldnt we take cersei at face value when she implies that if jaime knew about the physical abuse he would have killed him? he loves and cares about cersei to an insane degree, even if he can be selfish toxic and unhealthy too. i really find it very very difficult to imagine that he wouldnt have killed him based on almost every single part of his characterization.

i fundamentally think what causes the most problems in the world is dualistic thinking (us vs them, good vs evil, light vs dark, etc) and i think a lot of that dualistic/black and white thinking came from christianity (technically it came from zoroastrianism and then christianity took it a mile further) hence why i often blame christianity for a lot of the worlds problems, it all always seems to stem back to it, where people under christian influence think themselves to be the Good Guys and The Light and from there it just snowballs down until you have people committing genocide against those who "Taint Their Goodness" somehow, likely for just existing and being different or disagreeing with the christians' beliefs, "good vs evil" becomes less of a guideline on how to treat others and is instead interpreted too literally and thus people are labeled entirely good or evil instead of just their actions. same goes for "light vs dark", which, i probably dont need to go into how christians have used that ideology to fuck up the world in a million ways. "darkness" is no longer a metaphor for evil, instead it is once again taken too literally and thus anything thats "dark", whether that be the night, people, animals, clothing, etc. becomes "evil", rather than it being simply being symbolic of "being in the dark". this is where i think anti theists get messed up, they wanna paint all religions as bad but truly i think its only the ones that push duality so hard that end up being harmful, not to mention duality is an ideology someone can have who's not religious. it's all about lacking the ability to see yourself in another person, of putting yourself in their shoes, a lack of seeing them as part of the same whole that you are, that their existence contributes something to the world just as yours does. idk .-.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
PART 1 // PART 3 // PART 4
ෆ DABI X HAWKS’ LITTLE SISTER
ෆ cw: Dabi being a flirt and a pervert, corruption kink, smut and dubcon incoming
Tumblr media
“So.. Dabi”
A red feather quickly finds itself on my neck, its sharp point pressing against my pulse.
“Let’s start by telling me what the hell you’re doing here. And being friendly with my sister, out of all people” Hawks asks sternly and I can’t help the grin on my face. He is fuming and I’m living for it.
“Hey now, you’re being rude” I rasp out, faking a hurt expression. “Is this how you treat your friend?”
“Enough with games. We’re no friends and you know it. How did you find this place? I swear if you hurt any of the-”
“Chill birdie..” I interrupt him, rolling my eyes. “I’d appreciate first if you got this feather off me. Before I burn it down, that won’t be fun for ya, will it? The little angel inside told me how sensitive feathers can be, even when they’re off your back. Really interesting.. ”
Hawks swallows and removes the feather, letting out a deep breath and trying to calm himself down. Probably mentally cursing his dumb little sister for spilling so much information to a man like me.
“To cut things short I tried to find some information on my own, cause see, I don’t really trust ya, hero. I’m sure you’ve been doing the same behind our backs, searching information regarding any villain in our squad”
Hawks chuckles, clearly a forced one. I’m one second away from blasting flames on his face.
“Come on Dabi.. you’re way too paranoid. After I’ve proven myself loyal to the cause multiple times? It’s kinda unfair don’t you think? Other members of the liberation haven’t gone through such intense stuff so you could trust them. But you still think I’m suspicious.”
“We’ll see about that when the time comes.” The smug smile fades off my face, seriousness replacing it. He needs to know he can’t fool anyone, not me at least.
“It wasn’t hard to find out information about you. But of course finding out that you got an angelic sister was the cherry on top of it all! All sweet and nice to savour~”
Now Hawks was the serious one here.
Ouch, struck a nerve there?
“Listen here, and listen well. I’m all in to help you guys achieve this cause and join forces, but I want you to stay out of my life. Away from my family, you’re going too far Dabi” he growls, approaching closer, while I stand there looking down on him. He really is shorter than me, such disadvantage.
“Tch, you really think I’m gonna hurt em?”
“Who knows, will you?” he replies, golden irises focused on my teal ones.
“I won’t hero, that’s all about it” I smirk, stuffing my hands in the pockets of my jacket. “If you’re fully loyal to us and to the cause, then why so paranoid? Why so scared? I would never harm someone who is loyal, or their family for that matter. I’m not that fucking stupid”
I let my words sink in and the hero stays silent for a while. This is all a game and I know exactly how it’s gonna go. Especially now that I got myself a little gem, Hawks is going to think twice before doing anything funny.
“Alright, all I’m saying is, do not involve her or anyone else in this. She is neither a hero nor a villain, let her live her normal life and don’t mess it up. She doesn’t know who you are, nor my association with the League. I’d rather kept this all hidden for both of our sakes, won’t be beneficial if the word gets out”
“Y’got it” I click my tongue, fully aware that I will do the opposite. I didn’t have time to have further conversations with my angel. Besides from being a sight for sore eyes, I want to know all the thoughts in that brain of hers. What goes through her mind, her opinions on different topics, what does she think of hero society? Does she have her own ideologies and beliefs? For sure she is not just a brainless doll who does nothing but sit pretty all day.
Still, even if that’s the case, I will use her whoever I see fit. Been a long time since I had some real fun, and having a brainless little doll sitting nicely on my cock sounds just about right.
Fuck, thinking such nasty thoughts when her brother is right in front of me.
Little does he know that I got her number.
Tumblr media
*2 days later*
As I head back to ReDestro’s mansion, familiar voices of my comrades fill my ears the moment I step inside.
“Hey Dabi, where have you been dude? You can’t keep ignoring your duties as a lieutenant!” Twice says.
“Don’t worry about that Twice” I sigh, ignoring his gaze and heading upstairs to my room.
Though it’s not that easy to escape their interrogation the moment that psycho sticks her nose in my business. Fuckin’ great.
“Mmmm, do you smell this?” Toga asks Twice as she comes closer to me. “Such a sweet pleasant scent~ can’t believe it’s coming from you out of all people, Dabi”
Ouch.
“And what do you mean by that?” I raise an eyebrow, annoyance clear on my face. “Careful with your words psycho.”
“Ahh no didn’t mean it in a bad way! Usually you just smell like cigarettes.” she giggles, then her eyes widen in realisation. “Wait, don’t tell me you are seeing someone?”
“Dabi seeing someone?” Spinner says from the other side of the room, Compress turning his head as well.
Yep, that’s my cue to leave.
“Hey Dabi don’t ignore me!!” Toga pouts. “Tell me is it a girl? Who is she? She smells so sweet!”
Damn it angel, the trouble you already got me in.
“None of your goddamn business.” I say sternly, though I can’t help the small grin on my face. That’s all it takes for the little psycho to blush and squirm in excitement. God knows what kind of romantic crap she’ll be daydreaming from now on.
Laying down on my bed, I let out a sigh and grab my burner phone. It’s strange though, how I’ve always been chasing my goals and dreaming of revenge, my mind focused nowhere but only on the hatred burning deep inside of my core.
My only goal was to bring down this society built on false heroes, but as my eyes laid on her, it was like a ray of sunshine swept through the dark clouds in my life. I never gave a fuck about having fun around with women, I’ve been focused on more important things to let distractions take over me.
But when it comes to her, I am a depraved man.
I dial her number, and patiently wait for her to pick it up.
“Hello?” she answers with a sweet voice that has me biting my lip already.
“Hey angel~”
She paused, her breathing changed. Bet she’s blushing the moment she recognises my voice and the nickname I gave her that day.
“Dabi?” she replies, her voice a tone higher, clearly filled with excitement.
“That’s right” I grin. “Kinda missed your pretty ass you know?”
“Missed me?” she giggles. “We literally met just two days ago, how could you miss someone you met for the first time?”
“Got no idea, you sure you don’t have some kind of seducing quirk? That scent of yours been lingering on me for too long. Anyway, I hope Hawks didn’t make a big fuss that day, angel”
I remove my jacket and shirt off, feeling hot and bothered already.
“He is very overprotective sometimes, it’s annoying” she replies. I can already imagine her cute pouty face.
“That’s how big brothers are, way too overprotective of their little sisters. Can’t really blame ‘em”
My mind suddenly goes to Fuyumi. Was I overprotective of her too? Can’t remember.
“Princess.. you got any plans tonight?” I whisper.
“Mm not really” she mumbles. “Why? You wanna visit me again?”
“Why not?” I smirk. “Seems like you enjoyed my presence that day”
“Don’t get ahead of yourself. I just want to make sure guests feel comfortable that’s all” she snaps back, but I know too well that’s a lie.
Before I can say something back, I notice the bulge in my jeans growing.
Shit. All it took was her voice.
Lazily I unzip my pants, while I let her talk.
“Tell me angel, you already got a man in your life? Didn’t get the chance to ask earlier..”
“If I had a man, I wouldn’t be talking to you right now” she says, I can hear the teasing smile in her voice.
“Is that so? You that loyal huh? Such good girl” I say as my hand lazily strokes my cock.
A soft gasp leaves her mouth at the praise and I squeeze myself slightly, precum already leaking down my shaft.
“W-Well, that’s how everyone should be” she continues. “But to answer your question no, I don’t have anyone”
Even if you had, they wouldn’t live to see the next day.
“And in the past? For sure a gorgeous thing like you has both men and women salivating”
My mind goes on her swollen tits and soft thighs, my breathing gets harder. That plump lower lip of hers..
“N-None of the sort. I don’t have much experience in relationships” she says shyly. This grabs my attention, little angel is inexperienced. My cock throbs in my hand, I swear if I keep edging myself like this-
“Ngh- Y’gotta elaborate on that sweetheart” I manage to reply. “Y’never kissed someone, been intimate and stuff like that?”
“I’ve had my first kiss but- whenever I tried to go further I just couldn’t..” I can feel her breathing get irregular again.
My chest gets heavier as I edge myself at her voice, my hands moving faster, the tip of my head red and swollen, begging to be stuffed inside that sweet cunt of hers. Just the mere thought of it has me salivating, abusing her pretty hole until her voice goes sore from screaming and her eyes puffy from crying. The metallic piercings decorating my shaft heat up, making the feeling more tense as I reach my high. Like a drug, her voice is sending me over the edge
“Umm Dabi, you still there? You alright? W-what’s going on?”
“Mmhm yeah. M’still here-fuck” I let out a grunt, trying my best to keep quiet as I bust on my hand. Hot thick cum coating all my fingers, and I can’t help but think what a waste this all was. I could’ve filled her up to the brim with this.
She swallows nervously. “Anyway I think it’s time for me to sleep. It’s getting late. We can meet another time”
“Yeah sure thing” I say, trying to catch my breath after that orgasm. “Sweet dreams, doll”
After she hangs up, I look at the mess on my hand. So filthy. And for some reason I do not feel ashamed of this behaviour. Probably for the fact I’ve made my mind up that she is mine, so I can do whatever the fuck I please.
And with that being said, I decide to pay the sleeping beauty a little visit tonight.

How was your day? I hope it was great! 😊
A quote help inspire this brainrot and that is “Always the bridesmaid never the bride”.
Now I recently re-read your Unrequited story and got an idea. What if yandere Atsumu miya x best friend reader where Reader has a huge crush on him but Atsumu is a major playboy who don’t see Reader as a woman and thought she was tomboy. Like Reader and Atsumu are best friends and rivals since childhood as Reader is the Star player of the female volleyball. The reader is more on the muscular side and cut her hair short due to it getting in the way of her games. Like reader can keep up with the Male Volleyball team and even competes with the miya twins during practice. Even if reader acts tomboy-ish, she is still straight and actually a romantic at heart and wants to date but because of her general muscular appearance and gruff attitude boys are intimidated by her. Others boys don’t even see her as a woman and the general school thought that she was boy due to her looking like a boy similar to Haru from Ouran HighSchool host club. But the reader has huge crush of Atsumu since they were little but Atsumu is busy playing around with more feminine girls. Atsumu unintentionally ignores Reader’s confession thinking that she’s just joking around and gets into a fling with a girl that is opposite of reader: gentle, slim and beautiful. The reader heartbroken by Atsumu still wishes him a happy relationship and goes to cry for a little while but to her surprise Osamu comforts her and allows her to vent about her feelings and insecurities about her body and how she feels like boys don’t perceive her as woman. After some time, Reader and Osamu began to fall in love due to Osamu being there for reader and treating her the way she wants to be treated but when reader during a victory party gets drunk she unintentionally revealed her old feelings to Atsumu and with tears in her eyes said that she always supported him and wanted to him to see her as a woman but its too late and osamu just picks up the reader to avoid making a scene . How would Atsumu take this and what would he feel seeing that he lost the reader forever and to his own twin brother no less.
Hope you have a wonderful day!
Oooooh this is some good brainrot right here. Atsumu would totally be exactly like this too.
I feel like this turned out really stiff-sounding somehow.
Title: Overlook
Pairings: Miya Atsumu x Reader; non-yandere Miya Osamu x Reader
WARNINGS: Yandere themes, masculine female reader, drunk reader
Summary: Atsumu only sees you as one of the boys.
overlook
/verb/
fail to notice (something)
The ball slammed against the floor, shooting back up into the air as the girls’ team cheers. The scoreboard was flipped, showing the numbers 25 to 20.
“Thank you for the game!” the two teams told each other a moment later before breaking up to mingle among each other.
“Congratulations on the final point,” Osamu cheered, clapping you on the back. You’re glad your childhood friend isn’t a sore loser.
“Girls versus boys, and the girls win- how unfair,” Atsumu, another childhood friend, was less charitable, a defined pout on his face.
“That sounds pretty sexist,” you warned teasingly, “Assuming the boys will win and all.”
Atsumu responded back with an even bigger pout. You laughed, trying to hide the blush from your cheeks as you looked at him.
A dark-haired boy walked over to stand next to Atsumu. He gave you a bored look for a moment before saying, “I thought you were a boy at first. You know, because of the short hair and muscles.”
A flush spread across your face. You knew that was how most people saw you, but it hurt hearing it directly from someone.
“That’s not very nice, Suna,” Osamu said coldly. You silently thanked him, giving a timid little nod.
Everyone thought you were a boy when they first saw you. It didn’t matter that you were somewhat girly, other than liking sports, it didn’t matter if you wore the girls’ uniform or had a romantic worldview- you weren’t seen as a woman at all.
You supposed it couldn’t be helped too much- your hairstyle was very typical of a boy’s and your figure was not very feminine. You were tall, muscular, and flat-chested.
The coaches of each team blew their whistles and you gathered with your team to hear the critiques from the practice match. You could tell that your coach was proud of you all for winning against the boys and you beamed whenever she praised your strength.
You were the one randomly chosen to stay behind and clean the gym. You didn’t mind at all, it always gave you time to think.
The boys left the gym, all except for Atsumu. Your heart skipped a beat as you realized he must’ve been chosen to stay and clean too! The blush that spread across your face was massive, touching even the tips of your ears, and you couldn’t keep the smile off your face.
Not a minute later and the two of you were alone together, running around, picking up balls and things that had been left behind. Once you had finished with that, the two of you headed for the janitorial closet to get the brooms.
“Hey, Atsumu,” your heart was pounding in your ears, but you knew this was the time to ask, when you were completely alone for once and not around each other’s teammates.
“What’s up, (Y/n)?” Atsumu asked, grabbing a large broom.
“I… I like you…” You blurted out, “Like… a lot.”
Atsumu immediately laughed, “Same, yer one of my closest friends, I’m almost as close to ya as Osamu.”
“No, that’s not what I mean,” you said frantically, “I mean-”
“Come on, I want to get this over with,” Atsumu whined, slipping past you and placing the broom on the floor, “Stop joking around.”
Your heart sank and tears leapt to your eyes. A strangled “okay” left your lips but you were anything but okay.
You shouldn’t have come to this party. Not if you wanted to keep your sanity.
Nearly the first sight you’d been greeted with was Atsumu making out with some random girl on the couch. The worst part had to be how the girl looked- skinny, feminine, large-breasted, and short. The complete opposite of you was clearly Atsumu’s type.
When Atsumu walked up to you with her on his arm, it’s all you could do to wish them a congratulations. You’re tearful the moment they turn away.
“Are you okay?” A soft voice asked you. You looked over to the source and were surprised to see Osamu standing next to you.
“I’m fine,” the minute the words leave your mouth, you burst into tears.
Osamu gently led you over to one of the open private rooms and rubbed your back as you sob into your hands. You’re thankful for the comforting motions.
“What’s the matter?” Osamu asked you.
The words spill out of your mouth before you can even think about keeping quiet, “No one sees me as a woman, Osamu. I look like a guy and that’s all everyone thinks of me.”
“I see ya as a woman,” Osamu said quietly, “I always have.”
Before you know it, he’s closing the gap between you both. You allow it to happen, surprised by how soft his lips are as they meet your own. You melt into the kiss as though it were the only thing that mattered.
Three months later, another party rolls around. It’s a celebration for the team going to nationals and you’re there to support Osamu. You’ve drowned at least four drinks by now, and they’re nowhere near light on the alcohol.
You’re stumbling around, nearly blackout drunk at this point, when you run into Atsumu. Your feelings for him have long since faded, replaced by a fondness for his twin, but you can’t stop the words from coming. The alcohol has obliterated your filter.
“You know, I used to have a crush on you,” you giggle drunkenly, “All I wanted was for you to see me as a woman but noooo.”
You sway a little as a hiccup leaves your mouth, and you continue, “But it’s all for the best, right? Now I’ve got someone else, someone better.” A smile spreads across your face as you look across the crowded room to Osamu, who sends a grin back your way. You give a little wave, which almost sends you off-balance in your drunken state.
“I’ve found happiness elsewhere.”
Atsumu stares at you, mind working a mile a minute.
You’d had a crush on him? How hadn’t he noticed? How hadn’t he seen you?
You looked every bit the part of a woman, decked out in a pretty dress for the party and a little bit of makeup. Yet, Atsumu had never bothered to look at you that way.
Maybe his feelings for you were sparked from the jealousy that his brother had something he didn’t. How dare ‘Samu take you away when you’d liked him first?
Maybe it was the rejection of your previous feelings, the knowledge that you’d moved on, even without him ever knowing you’d liked him in the first place.
As Atsumu watches you nuzzle up to his twin, giving him a peck on the lips, he feels white-hot jealousy course through his veins.
He wonders if he can get you to feel that way about him again.
Even if it hurts his brother in the process.

Hi! So, I saw your Teen!MC being comforted by Simeon post, and I really loved that. I've gone through abuse Luke that from my family my entire life, and quite frankly that post made me cry bc it was very well written🥹So, I was wondering if you could write something similar for more characters? If this makes you uncomfortable feel free to delete this btw😅
Sure :)
I'll do Luke, Barbatos, Satan, and Leviathan :)
Abuse Comfort
Characters: Luke, Barbatos, Satan, Leviathan
Genre: Angst,comfort
Format: headcanons, mini fic
Pronouns if used: they/them
--------------------------------
Luke
- When you tell him, he doesn't believe it. He would have never guessed someone as bright as you went through something so dark.
- actually starts to tear up, he's sad that you went through something so sad
- hugs your waist and nuzzles his head in your stomach, whining about how he's sorry
- actually says some things about your family, not so nice things but still very appropriate (he's still luke)
- he's mad and sad at your family, but the way you're comforting him and not the other way around makes him even more mad and sad at himself
"Waaaaaaaah! How could humans be so mean! Mean to someone like you too! Its not fair you didn't deserve that...sniff.... Theyre more demon-like than anything I've seen in the Devildom... Must be if they treat you so bad...im sorry MC...sniff"
Barbatos
- listens very closely, making eye contact with you or looking directly at you if you avoid his gaze
- very minimal touches while you explain, its meant to be a soft gesture of comfort. He hopes you get that
- when you're done he slides his gloved hand over your head smoothing down your hair
- he plants a kiss to your forehead and then leans his own against it, taking a breath before speaking with closed lids
- You can't tell whether he's angry or sad for you, he tries to hide it very well but you still saw his slightly furrowed brows and slight frown
"My dear MC, how anyone could treat you like that is beyond me. Please leave those memories behind you. Here in the Devildom, here with me... It will be better. I will be better. You will never receive such treatment again. Please believe me."
Satan
- he had his hand over yours before you even started, sensing the tension
- he squeezed your hand a bit, not enough to hurt you but enough for you to notice
- he was mad, angry, furious, that ANYONE could treat you like that, could be so heartless
- but he knew tight now you didn't need someone to protect you. What was done was done. Right now you needed comfort, and you trusted him with that -he gently wrapped his hands around your head and led you towards his chest, you didn't put up a fight
- played with your hair while he whispered sweet nothings to you, except these sweet nothings were sweet somethings, because they did mean something to the both of you
"That... Is terrible. So terrible. I don't... Understand how humans could do that to their own children. And we're the demons...i apologize MC. I'm... Sorry. You didn't deserve that, you were only a child... Their child and they treat you so horrid... It's despicable, truly.."
Leviathan
- paused his game when he saw you were serious
- gave you his full attention, his mouth slightly agape and eyes widened as his brows furrowed in worry as he listened
- took him a moment to take it all in but when he did all he felt at that moment was sorry for you.
- asks if he can hug you and when you say yes he hugs really tight, its awkward but you can feel his worry and determination to make you feel better
- not the best at comforting but will you for your sake
"What... Are you... For real...? Uh... C-can I hug you... MC...? Ok, alright. Uh.. Sorry. I just don't get it. Humans are so supposed to be, well, humane. Thats like the total opposite... Totally unfair to you MC I'm sorry...um..well, I hope my brothers and I can be a better family to you MC...i mean it, alright?"
Again sorry this took so long and hope you liked it :)

palisade 41
honestly don’t really know where to begin here.
because, like, we all kinda knew this was coming, right? odds were it had to happen sometime. now it has.
but there’s still a real cosmic unfairness to the timing of it. figure died right after they decided they didn’t want to. breaking the wheel of their resurrection is fine and all, but they fought so hard to escape clem and join perennial that it doesn’t really ring true to me.
hearing future in the same sentence reminded me that there’s another suite of definitions for figure, aside from the noun meaning shape or form—the verb meaning guess, consider, imagine.
i’m inclined to read future and perennial as two sides of the same coin—two views of the principality. future sees an inevitable road toward culmination, perennial sees that it’s all the same fucking cycle. also, future seizing on a moment of power from perennial and turning it to their own ends.
real gur just cannot catch a break. they’re stuck with future, inside their own reanimated corpse, guarded by the shell of figure? some real eternal torment there.
so, you know. shit sucks!!
i was really, really hoping eclectic would steal future, and it would also have been incredible for gur sevraq (who, as we know, stole the future) to be stolen from future, but the dice fall as they will
really interesting contrast between the two sides of this arc wrt divine/axiom/mortal/etc relationships. thisbe is guiding integrity and communicating with ebullience, building relationships across ways of being. figure is destroyed just by exposure to divine power, subsumed by the weight of a god rearing up on its own. the axiom being willing to treat with thisbe, the divine destroying figure. which is maybe less about those powers than about the hands moving them—instrumentalization as always a core theme of palisade.
of course it is also a cautionary tale of the capriciousness of dice. if figure and gur had gotten to speak with future i can imagine it going more like thisbe’s side. but maybe not! we’ll never know.
characters being demanded to envision a future was one of my favorite beats in partizan and it was really cool to hit that again (and to call back to leap!). but also heartbreaking. cori, happy and safe…
aw fuck the crew’s still gonna have to find out that figure is dead… mortality of course goes hand in hand with grief. much like valence’s death i think the positioning of figure’s death is ultimately going to be shaped most by reactions to it
dre’s pc deaths are always so fraught, huh. valence and chine were also kind of messy, sudden deaths—no clean tragedy. which, like, is life, but also, ;-;
the music was incredible. like breathing. and the way the dirge just stops—blinks out.
eclectic drawing up the seismic power of opposition, his own power, was really moving. a bit of grace in that moment.
i’m not sure where they’re gonna go from here, especially in terms of character arcs. it’s a rough downbeat. kind of falls in line with the conflict turns, though—fighting back and forth down to the bitter end. might be a bleak finale although at least one more thing seems set to unfold in this arc so honestly who knows
incidentally, bets on that: the smell of computer parts immediately made me think of the nobel, but the mechanical whine heard across the continent made me wonder if it could be palisade waking up (/being woken up). either way, it’s definitely getting to be alarm clock time, right?? (on the other hand maybe this is just motion activating all across palisade, but a bunch of motion factories just got taken down.)
it’s nice that the a-plot crew were having a fun heist though. cori deserves an alise breka mission
tragedy-ass podcast.

Question: Why does everyone, even those that want Trump to see consequences for what he did, seem to be hand-wringing over how terrible it is that a former president is being indicted, even to the point of saying it's a 'challenge to [US] democracy'? Plenty of countries all over the world have charged, tried, and convicted former heads of state who did bad shit, and that hasn't, like, tarnished their democracy or anything - I'd argue the opposite, that it's strengthened them, bringing consequences to those who would use positions of responsibility for corrupt ends! Why does the US seem to hold the office of President... tbh, it seems from the outside, almost sacred, like, full Divine Right of Kings shit going on here? All these people saying about having to weigh bringing consequences to Trump against something-something the office of the president. I... confess to not understanding it, and hope you can explain it.
It's that good ol' American Exceptionalism at work again, unfortunately. The whole "America is the Shining City on the Hill, the Example to the Rest of the World, the Peacemaker and Liberator who Brings Justice!!!" narrative is SO strong that it has a) badly warped the teaching of America's actual history, which is considerably less rosy, and b) made it impossible (and still makes it impossible, for some people) to actually reckon both with the terrible political things Trump did and the ugly pre-existing political things he didn't create, but just brought to the surface and gave free reign. In this mindset, of course it's shocking and sad because America doesn't DO these things!!! It's just for Less Good Countries Overseas Somewhere!
Of course, the fact remains that Trump is definitely not the only ex-president who SHOULD be charged (George W. Bush, still a war criminal), and the Republican party has been drifting and continues to drift into open fascism unabated for the last decade or so, while the corporate media does their utmost to shill for the Both Sides Bad!!! narrative as hard as possible (while still somehow having even more unfair standards for the left/Democrats). But because they have spent so long handling Trump with kid gloves, treating the Republicans like an actual political party instead of a nonstop reactionary white-grievance mouthpiece, and everything else that deforms American perceptions of itself, yeah, This Is A Sad Day. Which... yes, from one point of view, it is. It's sad and unforgivable that Trump was ever elected, much less was able to do what he did (and continues to do) for so long. But holding him to account for it is NOT the sad part, and I am equally sick and tired of hearing that, especially when it's paired with the same triumphalist mythology that this country always blithely peddles about itself and which continues to badly affect its understanding of both its past and present.

The Tale of the Poisoned Peach
(Origin tale for Pecharunt, specifically for my Kieranrunt AU)
In the center of a small village stood a peach tree. It was their main source of food and, to show their thanks, they showered it in their gratitude and praises.
The tree was happy to be of use to the village, but it always yearned for something more. To be loved not as a provider, but as the same as the humans in the town.
It sang it's wish day and night, hoping one day the loneliness in its heart would be cured.
The legendary Pokemon Xerneas happened to hear it’s mournful cries and stumbled upon the tree. Seeing how it gave its fruit to help those in need of it, Xerneas decided to grant it the gift of life.
The tree sprouted a giant flower, from which a special peach would grow.
This peach, engulfed by the gift, was to grow into a small human boy. He would go around, spreading gifts of love and nourishment, a protector of the living. Forever as an emissary of the giver of eternal life.
However, Xerneas’ opposite, Yveltal, had thought the boy would be an unfair advantage the other would have, throwing their natures off balance.
Angered, Yveltal doomed the tree to wither before the boy could mature, poisoning it.
The deadly substance coursed from the tree’s roots to its every branch, killing it and every fruit that was to grow.
But the peach refused to give up its life. From the fruit emerged not the boy, but the poisoned pit.
The creature was intoxicated with the malice of Yveltal’s intentions. Instead of enriched food, it gave toxic treats. Instead of giving love, it charged for it. It seeked full attention and care from everything around it, the poison in its heart never letting it feel fully loved.
Seeing their tree dead and the poison Pokemon next to it, they assumed it was the cause for their loss. They grabbed their weapons and prepared to kill it.
Trying to make peace, the Pokemon offered its mochi to the villagers. To its surprise, they all seemed to fall under its command once they had eaten it. The creature could make them love it, even if they hated it deep down.
So it selfishly used the villagers as puppets, giving it the gifts and attention it felt just.
Where the bountiful tree once grew, now sat a shrine of offerings.

It's time for yet another "more stuff I noticed while re-reading chapters". Today's focus is on miscommunication, especially when it comes to someone protecting someone else and how easily wrong it can go when one party does things against what the other party wants.
It got really long, so uh, sorry about that.
Spoilers for up to Chapter 183!
.
.
.
Billy
Ah, Billy. There's a lot to unpack about him.
Billy's greatest flaw is his kindness and protectiveness. His wish to protect others is not a bad thing on its own. Where things go badly is when he decides to protect the younger Union members by betraying them and stealing their powers so they wouldn't have to fight. But of course, right away, this action hurts Tatiana, the girl who he treated like his daughter and who saw him as a parent. Not to mention the hurt feelings of everyone he hurt in the process who saw him as an ally and friend.
There's another thing about how Billy's desire to protect actually ends up in a sense demeaning the people he wants to protect because he isn't quite seeing them as equals or colleagues or shows he trusts them.
Something I don't think really gets talked about is how Billy did everything trying to protect the Union, but as the vision of the original unaltered future showed, forming Under indirectly caused Sean to kill Fuuko during the Autumn quest and her death causes a chain reaction that leads to the end of the Union as a whole. And this would have just broken poor Tatiana since Fuuko was her friend on top of Billy's betrayal. Things only don't end this way because of Anno Un's interference, but I think it really highlights how Billy thinking what's best for those he's trying to protect is quite the opposite since he's failing to communicate with the other party and that would have destroyed the people he was trying to protect.
This all neatly fits into what Unfair's flaw is: Billy cannot use his copied abilities to the same potential as the originals because he doesn't have the same understanding the original users have with living with the abilities. Billy for example uses Undead for regenerating only, but never uses any of the Undead techniques like Parts Bullets because that technique is something only possible for someone who lived long enough with Undead to make pain more like background noise.
There's another moment Chapter 72 has a subtle moment with this with Kururu (Unchaste). Her ability works on infatuation, and this is what she has to say about Fuuko when she tries using it on her:
Tumblr media
Note Kururu saying Fuuko "fell in love with the mere idea of romance".
If it's possible Kururu was told this about Fuuko from Billy, than I imagine that's why Kururu was on guard duty even though if you think about it, Fuuko has the best chance of escaping her since Kururu can't do much else to stop her if her ability doesn't work, which it does because Fuuko has grown to love Andy.
But this also shows Billy views Fuuko as naive and thinks of Fuuko's feelings for Andy akin to a shallow schoolgirl crush, especially since he knows Andy protects her to use her to die and therefore he needs to prevent her from fighting in something she got pretty much dragged into. Of course, the latter fact was true. But, while Billy would have no way of knowing about what Andy and Fuuko went through in the Autumn arc, he does overlook that even as early as the Unrepair arc (which happened in September) that Andy was beginning to care about Fuuko beyond just a means to off himself. And Billy also ignores the efforts Fuuko went through to train herself to be stronger. I mean, Fuuko freaking blew a part of his face off with a gun when he betrayed the Union, which I don't think someone without resolve could have done.
While Billy knows what influences the strength of Fuuko's Unluck is how much she likes a person, he also overlooks it's Fuuko that makes Unluck such a dangerous power. Fuuko is a kind, empathetic and determined person that was given a cruel ability that would hurt her the most by putting people she loves at risk or worst. Yet, even at the lowest point of her life, she was still able to cry over a man unable to die who wasn't afraid to touch her surrendering himself to save her life.
AKA Billy doesn't recognize what about Fuuko makes Juiz see her as a beacon of hope and ends up focusing on just her ability, which alone isn't enough to kill God. I think Billy wouldn't be able to summon meteorites if he'd even been able to copy Unluck. And this is something even Billy ends up understanding and accepting after the Spring battle to end up regretting deciding to betray the Union in the first place.
Actually, Billy is also a little like Victor...But where Billy ends up differing from Victor is how he is able to recognize what he just harmed the people he wanted to protect and is able to make up for harming Tatiana to stay by her side until she dies.
Err, anyway, I think I've talked enough about Billy for this post. Let's move on.
Rip and Latla
Rip actually has some parallels to Victor and Juiz while he's mainly a foil to Andy... I focus on Rip for this one, but this also applies to Latla too.
Rip we already know is doing everything to get the Ark and loop to stop Leila's disastrous operation that killed her when Unrepair manifested, and he's done a lot of things (ex.cut his legs off, threaten people, kill people, etc.) in order to make that happen. Therefore, the other party is deceased.
But something interesting is how Chapter 109 reveals everything Rip and Latla have been doing is completely against anything Leila wanted for him or Latla to do. What Leila wanted from them was for them both to forget about her and focus on using their abilities to save others. I interpret these words as a genuine belief in them that despite their abilities being ruined by their Negator powers, there was something they could do with them to help others. Leila wanting them both to not focus on her death but rather the happiness they gave her despite her limited time to then focus on bringing happiness to others.
(Forgetting is actually another thing that pops up every now and then come to think of it.)
Unfortunately for Leila, Rip and Latla only despair and become desperate to do anything to save her, completely forgetting what Leila truly wanted and leading to them wanting the Ark to save her and only her. Something that ultimately ends badly for them both, and Rip in particular becoming a shadow of his former self to get to the Ark.
(Doesn't this sound familiar?)
Rip only remembers after both he and Latla are fatally wounded what Leila would have wanted would have been to work with the Union to kill God, the one truly responsible for her death.
A little detail I've I think is important to think about is the cover of Volume 13:
Tumblr media
Leila's posture in this cover has her hands clasped together as if praying away from both Latla and Rip. We don't know what expression she has on her face, but I imagine being forced to watch your childhood friend and sister do anything for your sake, even though that was nothing you wanted, subjecting someone else to unhappiness, would make it a pained expression.
Is Leila praying for someone to save Rip and Latla from themselves before they do something that can never be taken back?
Based on Leila's words on her deathbed, I suspect if Rip had been able to loop and if she knew what it took to save her life was making another man lose the love of his life and dooming humanity in the process, I doubt she would ever be happy with knowing her happiness was at the cost of pretty much everyone else's happiness.
In fact, in the Sick arc, Leila shows signs she doesn't want to protected by Rip and Latla all the time, since she volunteers willingly to have Fuuko operate on her on the battlefield to be bait for Sick as her way of being able to fight alongside them. I mean, I think that speaks a lot you're willing to make yourself bait for a living personification of the world's illnesses and diseases without hesitating that's giving the organization dedicated to fighting them a tough time. So yes, it does still show Rip and Latla both due to their love for Leila end up forgetting what she would have actually wanted them to do, hence miscommunication.
Going back to Leila on Volume 13's cover thinking about it in the context of the Sick arc, perhaps Leila's praying may have been not only a wish for someone to save Rip and Latla from themselves, but a wish that she can protect Rip and Latla in turn after everything they're done for her, which is something she may be able to do in the 101st loop that wouldn't have been possible if Rip had ridden the Ark to save her.
Who knows?
Juiz and Victor
I talked about these two in a different post, but I really wanted to talk about it a little more here because of how these two are mirrors of Fuuko and Andy.
In this case, the miscommunication is very mutual on both ends. I think in the end, the ultimate breakdown of their partnership came when the two stopped being able to communicate with each other. As we learn, what Juiz and Victor want is for the other to be happy. But 99 loops of failure embittered and changed them both for the worst (Juiz became increasingly unfettered and Victor became nihilistic, and both became increasingly distant from their humanity).
Perhaps both of them ended up unable to be honest with each other, Victor not being able to articulate how painful it was to watch Juiz to become someone he was starting to recognize over an impossible task, and Juiz being unable to see what she was doing was starting to make Victor despair.
Tumblr media
This part in particular where I felt that disconnect in communication between them. And that showed throughout the earlier conversation where it almost felt Victor couldn't say what he actually wanted as if he thought nothing he would say would get through to Juiz.
And well...we all know what happens next.
In the end, Victor hit the breaking point and tries to kill Juiz after deciding the only way for Juiz to be happy is for her to forget killing God and him and live the last loop peacefully. This is contrasted with how Juiz kept going in the first place because she wanted Victor to be happy, which wouldn't be possible if he kept being unable to die, resulting in her sealing Victor away with Remember so she can continue to try killing God, even if Victor wouldn't be with her anymore.
And the sad thing is in the end, neither of them get what they really want.
Juiz does indeed die like Victor wanted, but it's clear Victor realizes that it wasn't at all what he really wanted, because Victor became so disconnected from his humanity he probably only could understand why the others kept fighting after he lost the person that mattered the most to him. And it's sad on Juiz' end because she never did get to see Victor truly happy again, and could only wish to be able to meet him again in the final loop.
We might not know what might have been Victor's true wish unless he makes an appearance (and he probably will, considering there's actually a line that indicates another Negator near Void hidden by a text bubble in Fuuko's Negator roadmap).
Tumblr media
Though I could theorize what both Victor and Juiz wanted in the end was to be able to be happy together. And hopefully, that may not be an impossible task.
BONUS
"Oh my gosh, you still have more to say?"
Err...yeah.
While on the bus today, I remembered that Rip is a foil to Andy and it reminded me of the conversation Andy and Victor had in Chapter 110 that I think highlights something about this theme:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andy admits he's actually like Rip and Latla in that he wants to see the person he loves happy. But what's interesting is how he also knows, considering the person Fuuko is, if something happened to even someone considered a foe, she wouldn't be happy. Therefore, for her to be happy, they are both necessary for that, leading to the conundrum of whether or not to let them take the points. Ultimately, in order for Fuuko to loop, Andy has to fatally wound Rip because he's beyond reasoning with, and that is something he isn't happy about doing.
It's a subtle thing, but it does show something interesting about why both Andy and Fuuko are the beacons of hope for humanity winning, and I think that's just neat.
Okay, I promise, that's all for this rambling!

Evan and Greg are basically your oc's!, what is your interpretation of Micheal in the modern au. Also how does mike not see Evan as a person?
Also flashlight duo is super cute
Has Evan ever been bullied at school?
the ocification beam hit them too hard...
I view Michael in my flashlight duo universe as being like. not how a lot of people portray him. as in he doesnt lash out for a reason. he isnt acting that way towards Evan because William told him to.
it's for sure affected by William's own actions, but as in Michael subconsciously learned those things. he isn't even on William's side really. he sucks as a father to both of them. it's just that michael doesnt respect Evan enough to see him as someone who is supposed to be on his side
Michael subconsciously learned growing up that everything Evan is is bad. and the cool people his age see people like Evan as weak, so he does too.
he lacks any emotional maturity, so a lot of his actions towards Evan are out of his own boredom and resent. he genuinely thinks his reactions are funny. if he ever did realize what he did was wrong, he would have to actually realize. he knows fully that what he does hurts Evan. he just doesn't care. he hasn't developed the intuition he needs to care. you know?
and Michael is around 16 if evan is 12. it's not that hes too young to understand, it's the lack of good parenting, or literally parenting in general. if Evans life is hell because everyone around him hates him, then that means its true. it means the people in hurricane dont like people like Evan (a boy who at his age should be getting manlier, but isnt. sensitive and emotional and physically small and lanky. evan literally has anxiety and paranoia and is neurodivergent and people dont really acknowledge that but they notice. and they don't like it)
the people in their town suck and are mean and so is Michael's father. so of course hes going to stick to what hes been taught and to everybody else who also believes it and is on his side. he was never taught that what hes doing is wrong. hes a bad person but it's a product of horrible parenting and the worst town in the world
in contrast to Michael, in the neglect and bullying Evan has faced its made him kinder. he is the one facing it so he wants to be kind to others instead of being like the people he hates.
I dont want to say he would be more in tune with his emotions than Michael because he wouldn't be. before Gregory, he was so unstable and miserable he was just a big ball of anxiety and emotions. he didnt understand his emotions and have that country mile on Michael's own emotional maturity because he didnt have it in him to learn
and by that I mean he didnt even like himself enough to want to help himself. hed been taught that theres fundamentally something wrong with him that makes him bad and weird and not like anyone else who's impossible to 'fix'. and hed been hearing that since he was a young kid, so of course hed believe it.
but then Gregory comes alone and slowly tries to strip away what Evan had been taught just by being kind to him and repeating kind things. the opposite of what everyone else did.
and that is what makes Evan begin to change for the better. the first thing he learns is that Gregory doesn't think something is super wrong with him that makes him bad and stupid so he starts to believe it a little, too. he begins to see how maybe how hes being treated is unfair and its him seeing himself as worthy of kindness that makes him upset on his own behalf. and what that means is he has better self esteem when before he was so insecure he could never even defend himself a little bit
and its after he gains some respect for himself that he learns how to help himself. he actually thinks he deserves it now, so with his support system in Gregory and his family he learns how he works. he learns what his phobias are and what sets him off and how to calm himself down. and of course he hoped all the way through that changing could be what 'fixes' him and the people around him wouldnt hate him so much. but like I said before its that self respect that confirms it's for himself and not for others
of course that stuff doesnt go away, but he improves. the people around him do notice. they dont care enough to say anything, they're more just suprised or happy hes shutting up in that mean way of theirs. but I think after a while of Evan being comfortable with Gregory and improving himself he would one day just snap.
before, he had layers and layers of nervousness and fear and anxiety and insecurity stopping his very high emotions from boiling over. and with the newfound respect for himself comes the anger on his own behalf of how hes treated.
so i feel like one day he would just blow up with all the emotion without the insane amount of fear stopping him. and it doesnt help, not really.
before, evan wanted to please michael and his father. but now that he wants them to know how much he hates them and how much they hurt him, they are pleased.
he gained more respect but in the worst way. not the way he wanted.
but back to their relationship, I think post-all of this, evan wouldnt want anything to do with him. let's say Michael does have a wake up call when they're both older. hes already ruined his relationship so much its unsalvageable. he caused evan to develop fundamental issues rooted deep (anxiety and paranoia, general things he learned about the world and certain people/groups and traits that he'll have to remind himself arent true) inside of him.
his family had their chance and they blew it hard. evan is definitely in the right to want nothing to do with him or William and to continue growing up and living and laughing with his actual family in his heart. they never get to make it official, but that doesn't matter.
anyway I went on like. a lot lol. for anyone who havent read my oneshot series this is based completely off of that au of mine and in my mind is canon to every oneshot if you do read them. thanks for enabling me to talk about flashlight duo lol you can tell I put so much thought into them every day its crazy
edit: to answer your actual questions lol: it's not that Michael literally doesn't see Evan as a human person, it's that he doesnt respect him enough to treat him with human respect. you know? everything evan is he has been taught is bad and worthless so that's what he thinks. so by extension evan is too
and yeah evan does get bullied at school. I always imagined it was less bullies pushing him into lockers and stealing his lunch money (Williams ass does not give him lunch money let's be real) and more that they just treat him awful. hes either invisible or in the way and then they dont care to be super rude to him. they dont just spout their exact thought process out but they all think of him badly and view him as a big joke. its less blatant meanness and more just treating him awful in general and that's what makes Evan think its normal and that hes asking for it when its not.

Once saw a comment on reddit that went as follows:
"GRRM: 'I'm going to base my fantasy on historical Europe.'
Also GRRM: *takes only the most debauched parts of European history to sate his own fetishist fantasies*"
The above basically sums up my feelings on Martin. A lot of discussions about his work would be a lot more productive if his fanbase didn't think he was some deeply esoteric writer that was doing some dark exploration of medieval patriarchy on women and instead was fundamentally a p*rn and gore guy that writes about minors in bizarrely sexual situations, age gape relationships, and perpetual SA in his work because it's edgy and titilating lol.
I... actually think this is unfair both to GRRM and the Middle Ages.
I've been vocally critical of sexism and misogynist tropes in Game of Thrones, yes. But I have, alas, read male writers who do a much worse job of writing a range of interesting women characters. Also, I haven't found (so far!) what I would call "bizarrely sexual situations." The marriage night of Daenerys to Khal Drogo, for instance, I would call a sexual situation that makes sense within that world (and also, refreshingly, treats both her pleasure and her consent as important.) I also don't see the book as being "fundamentally" about sex and violence, or fetishizing either of those things, or designed to titillate. I do think it's designed to showcase the ways in which his imagined world does not share late C20/early C21 US-American shame and prudery around the body.
Also, this isn't "the most debauched parts of European history," and I'm kind of afraid to know what Reddit thinks those are. This is a 19th-century fever dream of medieval European history. I'm sure I sound like a boring broken record here, but I think that matters because that is a version of the European Middle Ages constructed in opposition to a present that the authors saw as superior, with its rationalism™ and modernity™ and strong centralized imperialist governments™. And that's not even touching the ways in which that nationalist tradition of history-writing constructed medieval Europe as whiter and more culturally isolated than it was. I also think it matters because those tropes live on in popular history (looking at you Barbara Tuchman, Dan Snow) and not a few historical novels (looking at you Alison Weir, Philippa Gregory, Bernard Cornwell.) I just... I'm so tired, and I spend so much time and energy trying to get students to stop clinging to these tropes because they seem to confirm a fever dream of a democratic and Protestant America, rather than a Europe polluted by "feudalism" (tyrannical construct) and "superstition" (anti-Catholic propaganda), as inevitable Top Nation.

I always see this phenomenon. Do you also find it strange that mentality also trickles down to the actor? Jensen gets treated the same way. Which to me brilliantly highlights how stans are unable to disengage from media and get back to reality. Jensen isn’t actually Dean. He’s not supposed to be dying for Jared. He’s not supposed to be catering to Misha. SPN actually isn’t real life…. To your point, the Misha/Cas stans are actually losing the small territory they thought they owned. There’s so much actual representation in media now that their wails and whines don’t carry any weight (not that they carried much to begin with) I’ve seen people outside of SPN fandom rail on destiel for being total bait and not even good bait.
@holding-out-for-hea
Addressing this in a new post because I go on a bit (as per usual).
I have always found fans who treat actors like they're fictional characters rather disturbing. Whether we're talking in the sense of seeing them as actually being their characters (it's a job, ffs) or in the sense of thinking the RPF fans write must be trufax (you don't know these guys, ffs). Or both! It is an indicator of someone who has problems separating fiction and reality and strikes me as just creepily dehumanizing at its core. To be clear, I'm not talking about fans who are genuinely joking around, but I feel like sometimes the line can get so easily blurred between joking and “joking” I personally prefer to avoid even that for the most part.
As to the latter, yeah, that's why I've always scoffed at the assertion SPN's legacy was going to ultimately be heller positive in any significant way.
The first problem is that to believe D/C was ever a thing (or going to be a thing) in the canon pretty fundamentally required a deep dive into the fandom for the ship. Even if you wanted to, it's a lot harder to take meta whose underlying thesis is predicated on the existence of totally real signposts about the obviously intended ending of the show seriously when the ending of the show has aired and was so hilariously Not That. It's a lot harder to fully immerse yourself in an echo chamber of true belief when there's no active and prolific new reinterpretation content to be surrounded by on a weekly basis. It's a lot easier to see how cynically bait-y and baseless Misha's statements about the canon and Castiel's final scene were, given the nothingburger that's actually there. At the heart of it, so much of the necessary credulity relies on there being an active community to bolster it with years of sunk cost investment and ready-made nonsensically elaborate conspiracies to explain why it was totally going to happen but didn't.
The second problem is the hellers remain hung up on insisting D/C was some kind of uniquely important cause that NEEDED to be canon because it was fundamentally more important than not only SPN's actual premise on the strength of platonic love, but better representation than any other show's potential LGBT+ romances … because reasons. Aside from the usual arguments why that's absurd, i.e. it's just their personal obsession speaking and they constantly insist their ship is "proved" through toxic stereotypes which actually underlines the opposite of what they intend? They have also really showed their asses by vocally and obnoxiously crying it's totally unfair and doesn't measure up to what SPN could totes have done if they weren't cowards when other media canonizes popular ships like with Good 0mens. As you say, the more time that passes the more common it's going to be to have genuine, well-written LGBT+ love stories incorporated into new canons to be contrasted against D/C fandom's 'two dudes who were never each other's first priority, often treated each other like shit, and explicitly stated their feelings were familial … but looked at each other + obvious jokes = the greatest love story (n)ever told and the writers owed me!'. Even to someone completely unfamiliar with SPN and therefore unaware they entirely queerbaited themselves despite the show's content? The longer ago the show ended the more irrelevant and unimportant to good representation the ship not being canonized becomes, when it wasn't particularly relevant to begin with. Sure they got some sympathy from the unaware about That Scene followed by an angel-free final two episodes (though a lot of the buzz was just memeing the scnee because it was That Cringe even sans context), but now? Why not go watch something else that actually has representation instead of whining about a show from 2005 that ended in 2020, after all? It's old news, if you hated it that much there's newer better LGBT+ content out there being made every day!
So yeah, not only is there no there there, especially in comparison to any real love story? But the most obnoxious shippers continuing to loudly make genuine real life issues and other canons' legitimate LGBT+ representation about their bestest realest most totally canonest ship ever D/C that they were also totally cheated out of? It can only become even more obviously ludicrous and self-serving - and it was pretty blatant to anyone with a modicum of discernment and familiarity with shipper behavior to begin with.

Do you think Asian Americans need to work on anti-black racism in their communities? It seems like some Asian Americans are against affirmative action, even though it benefits them too. And some seem happy it was overturned. Which seems a little racist.
oh absolutely, anti-blackness is rampant in asian communities
opposition to affirmative action from asian communities has been a problem for as long as affirmative action has been in place. it's hypocritical, because many implementations of affirmative action have provided opportunities for asian people as well
it also ties in to the whole "model minority" concept, and the extremely racist idea that asians are the good, smart, hardworking racial minorities and that black people are none of those things
when in reality, non-black people of colour like myself have a leg up over black people for multiple reasons. colourism is a huge factor. also, the stereotype of the "smart nerdy asian", while racist in it's own right, does provide an advantage in accessing education and finding jobs. and then of course there's the fact that many black people in canada and the united states are descended from slaves, making them significantly less likely to have family wealth being passed down to them, because their ancestors didn't own property, instead they were considered property. while all people of colour face systemic racial injustice, there are specific and heightened systemic injustices that black people face and that the rest of us do not
and those are just the systemic factors! there's also cultural factors among asian communities, including my community as an indian person. colourism is rampant in asia and among asians all over the world. stereotypes about black people are shared between white people and non black people of colour, and we are absolutely complicit in their oppression
a few years ago it came to light that the government in india had as a part of its education curriculum for children an extremely racist concept floated by the hindu nationalist government. the story that was being taught in schools was that when the deities created the first humans, they constructed them and cooked them over a fire. and that the first attempt was undercooked, and those were white people. then the second attempt was "overcooked and burned", and those were black people. then the third attempt was "perfect" and when they "got it right", cooked the right amount, and that was indian people.
I don't think I need to explain how racist that concept is and how it negatively impacts how indian people treat black people, and is outright claiming that we're genetically superior in some way
when it comes to affirmative action, a lot of asians have bought into the "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" bullshit, and view it as giving unfair "handouts" to black people. of course, the truth is that affirmative action is nowhere near enough to balance out the injustices faced by black people, and any asian who thinks that it is too much is both a hypocrite and a racist who has decided to side with the oppressor and throw black people under the bus for their own benefit

Actually good gameplay/bad story vs. bad gameplay/good story poll has me thinking a lot about "bad gameplay." I feel like that's often treated as a really binary thing, but like. How many games out there is this subject often hotly contested on? How many older games, how many cult classics? I feel like for every game with "bad gameplay" there's at least one person defending the impact it has on the experience and atmosphere of the game. I've seen someone get heated about the idea of making inventory limits in older RPGs more lax when porting the games to modern systems because it removes stakes from the game to be able to carry More Items. You lose an edge of puzzle and of wilderness survival. The inventory management question is one that often pops up in discussions around horror games as well- what's a badly designed inventory and what's one that's frustrating intentionally? Or one that's excusable by the limits of its age? Is clunky combat bad in a combat heavy action game, or can it push the game's genre to suggest something else atmospherically? I really enjoy defenses of gameplay that's "bad" or "obsolete." I haven't been playing Dragon's Dogma 2 and have no way to judge one way or another, but I have heard it called unfriendly, backwards, and bad by detractors and unfriendly, backwards, and good by defenders. It's so fascinating where people draw the line and what criteria they use to determine what's passing and failing. And then when there are whole mechanics people love or hate too! I was looking at escort mission discourse just today. Conversation where on the one hand some people believe there's no way at all to attain a theoretically possible good implementation of an escort mission, while other people see even the most player unfriendly implementations as a challenge of player skill rather than a failure of design.
I don't really have anywhere I'm going with this, I just felt that the more I thought about it the more interesting it was because of the ways that gameplay could be interpreted through age, technical implementation, genre, and player tolerance in ways very distinct from how story and writing are judged. I think "good gameplay" as a concept is often positioned as gameplay which is snappy, clean, and accessible (accessibility exception carved out for games that sell themselves as Hard Games) with precise and technically well crafted controls, but I've seen so many cases for good gameplay being the absolute fucking opposite if it produces an interesting play experience. And you could say "oh, that's determined by the intent of the creators," but do you always have a way to know their intent? And how many games come together actually according to plan, with no schedule slippage and everything implemented exactly according to vision?
To use an example near and dear to me- yeah, I'm not leaving the Kingmaker in the tags after all- a part of Kingmaker's gameplay loop is kingdom management. You're exploring, fighting, and interacting with the world, but you're also coming to rule it through the kingdom, and this has to be balanced as a part of this loop just like all the other pieces. Kingdom management feeds back into the other pieces of the game- it gives mechanical benefits, it opens up new interactions, and when you explore it backfills the empty space you leave behind with something new, the kingdom, which can be further transformed. It also fills a different kind of empty space, the temporal space between chapters, and gives you meaningful choices to make when the plot isn't at a fever pitch by making it so that how you use your time has stakes beyond what exploration and quests provide. Kingdom management is also timer dependent and RNG heavy as fuck, and at points can feel very unfair even if I'd argue it seldom ever traps you and never traps you without an actual reason. It's also situated in a genre, the RPG, where RNG is seen as an acceptable and even expected part of gameplay systems. For me, kingdom management enhances the experience of the game and is an extremely worthwhile addition to the gameplay which plays in enjoyable ways off of other aspects of the gameplay. It's a part of a memorable and fun play experience. But so many people fucking hate kingdom management and see it as not just something they dislike, but something which is Bad in design and implementation. It's positioned as disruptive, unwieldy, player unfriendly, overwhelming, and arbitrary. And I see the case for all of those points. And I don't think there's any final way to objectively settle whether it's Good or Bad, and that ultimately what it gives to the game very much comes down to player preferences and playstyle. How you interact with a game gives these systems their meanings and impacts.
I don't really have a conclusion to this. It's just kind of word vomit getting the thoughts out of my head. ^^;; But I don't know. I think it's something really interesting, the fact that there's not necessarily an objective way of seeing gameplay as good or bad the same way that there's not an objective way to see a story. I answered that poll "bad gameplay and good story," but when I think about the games that make me choose that, it's not like they're unplayable even if sometimes I truly hate the experience of playing them. I think that their gameplay gives them meaning, specificity, and staying power in my mind for how I experienced the game because of this gameplay in a way that games with "good" gameplay can't always provide.

idk why no one talks about it but there is something so psychologically damaging about having teachers for parents. esp in the us where teachers r expected to be answering emails until 10 at night, where there's no real work-life balence because at some point. at some point you realize you're not really their kid. you're just student who lives in their house. and it's not their fault! you get it, when they can't treat you differently at school, because that would be unfair to the other kids, but at what point do those kids know your parents better than you do? at what point do you look at your mom across the gym during assembly and realize that your mom know her students better than she does you?
and it's always "oh that's so-and-so's kid, i took a pd course with them." and your teachers all know your name before they even call attendance. and your mom says on the car home "your teacher was talking to me about how you've fallen to a b in english." when the other kids barely scraping c's don't even get an email home all year. its learning cursive on the floor of your mother's classroom while she grades until it's dark outside. it's the empty halls of your elementary school being so familiar you can almost feel the carpet beneath your feet but you can't quite remember the color of your childhood home's front door. did we have a fence out front? i can't remember but the layout of my 4th grade classroom is seared into my brain.
and you're only ever around adults because your peers all seem a little too young a little too immature because you're only ever around adults because your peers all seem too young -
but it's always the mantra of "you can't talk about this with your friends" at the dinner table and the disillusionment that comes with realizing you have to keep secrets from your friends because otherwise your mom could lose her job. it's half the school knowing stories about yourself that you don't remember. it's learning algebra before you learn to ride a bike because theres not time for that between early mornings and late nights.
its your dad missing your little sisters birthday three years in a row for a conference on the opposite coast. it's your mom sobbing at the dining room table because the kids are so stressful this year, so you don't ask for help because she's the one who needs it. it's your dad going straight to problem solving when you break down in tears and you can't even be mad because he's the one with the psych degree. obviously he's the one who knows the best about this.
it's "they're trying their best" and "it's the administrations fault" and "the real problem is the system" because you need a parent but you get a teacher. and it's almost enough. she comes to your little league games but when you look up from the field she's turned away, talking to a woman with bleach blonde hair who mispronounces your sisters name.
they sit in the front row for every graduation but yours.

Out of all of the main, secondary and background character's thoughts and feelings on PFO there is one you haven't mentioned yet.
The most logical of the main cast.
The one who is said to be "The Brightest Witch of Her Age".
The one, the only Hermione Granger.
Oh man Hermione at first tried to reason with Harry, because honestly his idea was so silly it couldn't possibly be true but then Snape's reactions made her pause. Now it could have been he was just thrown off by her best friend's question but the reaction was bigger than she expected. She didn't want to just believe in something, something an adult, her Professor, so adamantly denied but so many things followed after that somehow proved the opposite.
For a long time she didn't do much other than observe and make notes on everything she witnessed because she needed more evidence. She does become convinced that Snape and James Potter were bitter ex's and is so baffled that he would lie that it kind of shakes her perspective of adults and authority figures. She doesn't take what they say at face value and does more research. Honestly this whole thing was actually a blessing for her development. She didn't just have a blind faith in adults and authority figures anymore and that was slowly bleeding its way into her view of books as well.
Because if adults lied for no reason, and as she began to find out for nefarious reasons, then maybe books could be biased too???? This becomes more of a stable idea and thing she believes after 4th year and the whole Rita Skeeter nonsense.
She is a secret fan of all the drama but is the not so secret co-writer of The Potter Family Opera Bulletin. She works with the Patil Twins and once Luna gets involved in everything she joins the writers circle. They end up actually making a student staff for this and to the surprise of the students but not everyone else, they start getting subscriptions outside the castle and even start making money from it.
They all agree that the issue will be free for students and teachers. Hermione, Theo Nott and Padma were the ones to somehow charm the papers from being copied or sent out of the castle once they were in the hands of students or staff as they thought it would be unfair and bad business if the complimentary papers they gave to their fellow students were sent to family members without said family members having to pay for a subscription.
Surprisingly it was Padma who brought up the issue and Theo who pushed for them to do aomething so they didn't lose money as they (the students) used the money to make Hogwarts more homey. Money got donated towards making clubs, buying better brooms, guest speakers, more books for the library! (All things Albus said they didn't have the budget for.)
Because they do such a great job of relaying any PFO news out to people they end up making a Hogwarts Herald. A school paper by the students for the students. It included studying tips, a charm of the day, advertisements for clubs, latest gossip, just any news they think is important or entertaining!
Hermione thrives!
At this point she does believe the original rumor and a good chunk of info that follows but overall even if it wasn't true she would never say anything because this has done the school a world of good and she made a ton of friends!
Plus she finds it amusing when she hears the latest gossip of how many people have crushes on Harry and makes sure to tell him about them before an issue of the HH hits the stands.
And look...at first she thought Cedric and Harry could be cute. Ron was adamant about it....but then she found out Theo maybe had an interest in Harry and maybe she gives him encouragement and advice ut she does so in a way to not make it obvious. She just drops hints on what Harry's favorite treats were, maybe drop he was looking at something in the shops in Hogsmead. And let's just say she's not surprised when Harry gets a secret admirer who sends him all those things.
