It can be pretty difficult to free yourself from living the life that others want for you, especially when so many of our experiences are shaped by what others want. I understand my parents want me to be happy, but I can also accept that their idea of achieving happiness may look different from mine. Those around us usually do want the best for us! But it's always good to reflect on when your desires and their desires diverge.

Emotionally immature/unstable parents can easily project onto their child their own fears and insecurities, making it all about them: they feel triggered or attacked by their child's behaviour and are not able to comfort them, cause they haven't been comforted either in their childhood. This can teach the child that their emotions are related with how they make feel the other person and not with how they feel. So the child may grow knowing that they don't need comfort, that they're misbehaving and start self abandoning themselves, in order to make it all about others.
Please, if you're/have been into such a cycle, remember your emotions are about yourself and yourself alone. And it doesn't depend on you how others feel about them or how you may involuntarily trigger them: it's their own job to discover and heal their wounds. You only have to care about you, and feel and validate your own emotions, to heal yourself. And to care about yourself again: don't give up on yourself ever. You never deserve this.

Matilda by Harry Styles is for children who don’t have a good relationship with their mother(or father) and constantly feel like they need to be doing more. They can never express themsleves in front of their parents because they will be rebuked for it. They're constantly getting yelled at for no reason, always stressed, choke back their sobs and feel that they are a disappointment at all times.

"But she gave birth to you, you owe her!"
My mother wanted to be a mother. It was her dream to be a mother. She poured all her energy into being a Good Christian Mother.
She did not want me. She wanted motherhood. I was a side effect of her dream. Once I was old enough to disagree with her, she hated me. I wasn't making her look like a Good Christian Mother. I was loud, disobedient, needy... almost like a child. Not quiet and pretty and grateful for crumbs.
Yes, she birthed me. For herself and her partner. For the people who were already born. Not for me. As all mothers have for all of time. It's not the birthing that makes a mother worth honoring, it's the parenting.

If you haven't woken up by the sound of your parent shouting at your sibling and scrambled to get ready at the speed of light...have you ever truly lived?
