I'm going to think out loud about the dungeon meshi ages for a sec

I'm going to preface this by saying that this is based on my existing knowledge, and fact checking is difficult because there is A LOT of contentious research out there.

First of all, I think a lot of people come at this from a modern lens, forgetting the context that this is fantasy medieval era. this is fiction. on top of that, this is specifically Ryoko Kui's understanding of medieval era aging. plus fantasy. So before anyone comes at me with a bunch of 'ermmmm actualy's just consider that I don't really care and also it might not matter in this context lol

as far as the "age of maturity" assigned for each race, something I don't see many people talk about is that "teenagers" are a fairly recent concept. For a long time, you were either considered A Kid or Not A Kid. but this doesn't necessarily mean kids were more/less developed then, just our cultural expectations for certain age groups have changed.

Laios says the age of maturity for tallmen is 16. I don't think that means 16 year olds in the dungeon meshi universe are necessarily "more mature" than modern 16 year olds, but moreso that they have more responsibilities. However, things like medicine, smoking, drinking, sun exposure, physical activity, etc all affect age, so it's possible that developmentally they're closer to modern 18 year olds? Izutsumi is 17 (less than two weeks from turning 18, actually), and very much acts like a modern 17 year old.

The age of maturity for half-foots is 14. Chilchuck was 13 when he got married and had his first two children. Even though, at age 29, he's the equivalent of a modern 50 year old, I don't think he was That much more developed at 13 than a tallman. I think if half-foot 14 is equal to tallman 16, then Chilchuck was Pretty Damn Young for a parent LMAO. Even if you're generous and say tallman 16 is a modern 18, he still would've been younger than that.

The long-lived races are interesting. Marcille is obviously a unique case, and not a lot of this applies to her. We do know what Senshi was like as a minor (miner, lol), and he seemed like a modern 15ish, considering he was 36 and dwarf maturity is 40. I think it'd be really interesting to delve into how a culture functions with people being developmentally adolescent for soooooo long. Imagine middle school lasting 20 years. that would fucking suck. I suppose it makes sense why long-lived races are so patronizing.

Moving onto lifespans, I want to emphasize that they're average lifespans. Even in the manga, they say some half-foots live to 100, it's just rare. So it's less that a tallman 60 year old is "older" than a modern 60 year old, it's that it's easier to keep people alive for longer nowadays. Modern medicine is a BIG contributor. Dental health as well, considering how much your health is affected by your diet (and how much the action of chewing alone aids in digestion). Curious to know what the FUCK elven dentistry is like.

It also makes me wonder if half-foots would have a longer average lifespan if they weren't like, used for bait and treated so poorly, but half-foot 29 does seem to be middle-aged for half-foots. so who knows!

In that vein, I don't know if I can see Mithrun quite making it to 400 😬 like, his experience as a dungeon lord took a lot out of him quite literally, and he's doing exceptionally well despite it! I imagine he'd eventually start to develop a lot of heart problems if he doesn't have them already. Perhaps early-onset dementia. His memory seems still quite intact (he corrects Kabru on his story's accuracy) and he doesn't act like, lobotomized. He doesn't seem forgetful or confused, and he has a sense of humor/sarcasm still. It's mostly his task initiation that's been affected.

I almost want to say that mana affinity could affect long-lived races' lifespans, except dwarves have very poor tolerance for mana, so it's probably not that.

Also I am so so sorry if any of them are OOC, this is my first time writing Jack and Ruggie so I'm like,,, really scared they are.

A Flurry of Love, Soft and Sweet

Jack Howl, Ruggie Bucchi, Leona Kingscholar x G/N Yuu

Jack, even now, tried to pretend that he didn’t care about the prefect nearly as much as he did. It was obvious to anyone that wasn’t him that he was clearly failing, however, when his tail would wag without any hope of stopping it the second he caught even a glimpse of them.

He still tried to keep up that futile facade now, much to their amusement, when they had cornered him in his room after practice one day to give him a kiss. It had devolved after that, turning into the mess for his heart Jack found himself in now when Yuu couldn’t stop after the first they’d pressed to his cheek. But Yuu couldn’t help themselves. He was always so kind, even when he was pretending, and they wanted to be kind to him for once in return.

“C’mon, Yuu,” Jack grumbled, his eyes darting anywhere but the prefect. It was hard to do that when they seemed to be everywhere at once, caressing his face with their lips while their hands held his cheeks. “You said just one.”

They hummed just as they pressed another kiss to the bridge of his nose. “Whoops.” The corners of Yuu’s lips quirked up as their victim huffed at the unapologetic tone of their voice. It was a ploy to try to hide the way his tanned cheeks had darkened with the beginnings of a blush, Yuu knew. “I can stop if you really want me to,” they offered, pulling away just a little.

Yuu almost couldn’t stop the giggle bubbling in their throat when Jack’s hand came up as quickly as it could, gently holding one of their wrists to halt their retreat. “I didn’t say that,” he muttered, ears flattening a little as he finally looked at them. Yuu remembered all over again why they had fallen for the beastman as his eyes softened, changing from the normally harshened gaze to become the honeyed, golden color they had grown so fond of. It was when his eyes looked like that when Yuu could see just how much he really did care for them, try as he might to hide it.

They had no idea how they had gotten so lucky, to be the person that could make a fearsome wolf like him melt. It was still something they wondered now, when Yuu remembered that they were one of the rare people to see his eyes like this. Maybe they were the only person.

Jack was thinking the same thing about them, Yuu knew, as he watched their own smile melt and warm. “You’re adorable,” they couldn’t help but say, unable to stop the little giggle this time when Jack huffed.

“I am not.” Any lingering growl in his voice was rendered useless as Yuu resumed their relentless attack. They squealed with laughter as Jack started to fight back, his hair tickling their jaw as he kissed the side of their neck. “You’re the cute one.” His tail just thumped against his mattress even harder as Yuu kept on kissing him, between fits of laughter and his own retorts stopping them for just a moment.

Lunch was always a little volatile for Yuu and Ruggie. It was rare when they would have it to themselves, when Yuu was constantly pulled in to help solve disputes on campus and Leona would perpetually call on Ruggie to fix his problems. Rare was it when the two of them would get to have five minutes to eat together, let alone the entire period.

Today was one of those rare days, thankfully. The two of them ate together in a peaceful, sunny little corner of the courtyard that only the two of them knew about. Yuu had leaned over to kiss him, a little disappointed that this had been the first time they’d been able to in so long. The little grin that had appeared on Ruggie’s face as a result was addicting, Yuu found, because they pressed their lips to his cheek again, seeing if they could get another one of his smiles from that, too.

“What’s this for?” Ruggie asked, the hints of his hissing laugh in his voice as he frantically tried to keep his cool. It was getting harder and harder for him to do just that, Yuu knew, as they kept kissing him again and again.

Another brush of their lips to his forehead before they answered. “Nothing.” Ruggie hummed at that, knowing full well that nothing usually meant something. “Can’t I just kiss you because I wanted to?” Yuu countered.

“‘Course you can. Doesn’t mean you do.” Yuu stopped their onslaught to give him a look, making him give them one in return. They rolled their eyes, going right back to their attack after a moment. “You want something,” he chimed, in a sing-song voice that made them huff. Yuu enjoyed the way they made him choke when they kissed the corner of his mouth, close enough to the real thing to make him sputter and stall for a moment. “That’s why I like ‘ya. We’re both twisted little opportunists.”

“Speak for yourself,” Yuu huffed, enjoying the way Ruggie frowned ever-so-slightly when they didn’t indulge him with another kiss to his lips. “I’m appreciating my favorite dandelion.”

Their pet name sent Ruggie laughing again, whispering like grains of sand for every time Yuu kissed him. They had grown to love that laugh, trying to make it echo in their ears at every opportunity possible. When the prefect kissed the corner of his jaw, they smiled as they caught the faint rumble of a purr. That was even better to hear.

One of Ruggie’s hands grabbed Yuu’s, making them stop in surprise. “You call this nothing?” he asked, amusement filling his voice and making his eyes sparkle as he looked from their hand to their face with a raised brow. It had been slowly reaching towards his half-eaten sandwich, and was only a few centimeters away when he had noticed.

Yuu shrugged. “I forgot I was doing that.” Maybe their original goal had been to get just a bite from his food, but that had been thrown away the moment they’d seen him smile.

Ruggie rolled his eyes, ears flicking. “Scavenger.” But that was why he liked them, Yuu finished quietly, as they indulged him with a peck to the lips in a form of an apology. He accepted it, if the louder purr was any indication

After knowing Leona for so long, it was decently easy to find where he was. He seemed to enjoy rotating between a few different places to nap, from Savanaclaw to Ramshackle and a sunny spot in the botanical gardens. They got pretty good at figuring out which place he chose to take up that day, depending on if a hand suddenly reached up to pull them down to him when he tried to drag Yuu into napping with him more often than not.

He’d chosen the botanical gardens today, Yuu found, as they came across him lying under his favorite tree, back resting against the trunk with closed eyes. Leona was already asleep, they realized with a small sigh, but they sat down next to him regardless.

It was always at the strangest times when Yuu was struck with how beautiful Leona was. Now was one of those times, they found, as the late-afternoon sun hit his face just right to make it look like he nearly had a halo. They had no idea how it was fair, that someone like him could exist, and someone like him was theirs.

Softly, Yuu pressed their lips to his temple, too captivated by him not to. His skin was warm from the sun, they found, making them lean ever-so-slightly further into him. Leona did not wake, so they kissed him again, on his cheek this time. When that did nothing either, they kept going, deciding they would until he finally woke up.

They had kissed practically everywhere on his face except for his lips when Yuu finally paused, trying to determine if Leona really was still asleep. They watched him for a long moment, making sure they didn’t blink in case even that split second made them miss something. After getting so good at falling asleep that he could do so in three seconds, he had gotten equally as good at imitating sleep even when he was awake.

It was the flick of his tail in the corner of Yuu’s eye that gave him away. They glanced down to look at it, and found that it had found its way to snake around them. It had been on his other side when Yuu first found him.

Yuu shot him a look they knew he could feel, even if he couldn’t see it. He finally stirred when they leaned closer to him once more, brushing their lips against the scar now fully revealed thanks to his closed eyes. “Good morning,” they called, catching the way his ears twitched, too. “You could have stopped me, you know.”

“Didn’t feel like it. It wasn’t a bad way to be woken up,” Leona hummed, cracking open an emerald eye as they pulled back. “Might just forgive you for that, herbivore.”

“You’re forgiving me?” they asked, giving him a look as he yawned without restraint, revealing gleaming fangs. “You’re the one who fell asleep before I got here.”

Leona blinked slowly, regarding them with half-lidded eyes. “You’re right,” he sighed, making a small huff of triumph escape the prefect. It caught in their throat when they felt Leona’s hand come up, cupping their chin. The beginnings of a smirk appeared on his lips as he rose up, coming ever-closer to them. “Let me pay you back.”

Oh god I promised myself no bell’s hells meta until c3 ends but my brain is turning the “can she be trusted?” line over and over like chicken at the shawarma shop. because there are layers to that.

more under the cut because i let this run away from me:

so first off, there's the obvious: dorian initially seems to start to address the whole group, everyone who's left in the inn room, but turns and just locks eyes with orym when he asks. orym, who of everyone has the most reason to be biased against laudna right now. orym, who just got into a fight with laudna over the sword that killed both of them and orym's husband and father-in-law. that's who dorian thinks to ask, because he trusts orym not to let his judgment be clouded.

dorian first saw orym again after months of being separated, like, three days ago, and despite how much orym has visibly changed in those months, dorian doesn't hesitate to believe that orym will still be objective. he trusts that orym will be the one to look at this situation and tell him the truth.

because dorian has experience with orym telling him the truth. dorian knows firsthand how willing orym is to shuck his personal feelings in favour of what's true. dorian just saw what he could have become, had orym not stepped in to stop him taking the circlet of barbed vision. he owes the fact that he's alive and beholden to no gods to orym's willingness to be rational and objective in a situation involving a powerful magical item. by his own admission, "i wouldn't be here without you."

so of course dorian trusts him right now.

and there's something to the exclusion of the others, with that. dorian doesn't look to fearne and orym, although that would make sense because he's known the two of them the longest. he doesn't look to chetney, who's proven to be able to get a handle on this with the scream needle compromise. he doesn't look to ashton, who's been extremely levelheaded through this whole mess. he looks at orym, exclusively. he is asking orym, exclusively. not the group, although everyone decides to jump in to answer and then imogen comes through the window to complicate the matter. just orym.

dorian is the kind of person with a lot of potential for darkness in him. he hides it well because he's also deeply kind and friendly, but it's always been there. he's just been through something massively traumatic, and that was after the original circlet conflict back in exu prime. he had his alignment forcibly changed from good to neutral. but even after all he's gone though, orym's alignment is still good.

as much as orym doesn't want to be a leader and prefers to be a protector and follower, he does very well in situations where he takes on an amount of responsibility. when he's in some level of control over a situation, he takes to it naturally. he's a very good babysitter to his gaggle of weirdos. the "can she be trusted?" might have been an attempt on dorian's part to give orym a bit more control here. to reassure him that regardless of anyone else's feelings—regardless of how laudna's reaction might have affected him—orym deserves to be trusted, and he can make a decision that dorian will trust.

back in exu and all the way into early c3, dorian and orym slotted into a sort of parental position in their groups. watching over the crownkeepers' clothes when they went skinny dipping in exu. orym repeatedly steering everybody away from bad ideas. matt even described dorian leaving dariax in zephrah in 4sd as "dad just going out to get cigarettes." there's always been that underlying sense of "we are two of a pair" with dorian and orym. not to say that either of them don't see the others as adults, but they do have that rapport of being the babysitters in the gaggle of weirdos.

that kind of bond is just part of their dynamic. but especially in light of what's been happening while they were separated, and then what happened between them earlier that evening, "can she be trusted?" is a reminder of that bond. orym's been lonely, by his own admission, and one of the secrets he divulged at nana morri's was "i really miss dorian." he broke down crying during his last message through the sending stone, and then again on the bench not a few hours before this whole incident went down.

dorian came to comfort him. he flat-out said to orym's face "i'm here now." he reminded orym that he needs to rely on other people, that he can't always be the one saving everybody else. he gave orym the room to not be the strong one, and told him he has that room because dorian's there to support him. they can be two of a pair again.

he knows orym's been feeling like he can't do anything, like he had to resort to what he stopped dorian from doing with the circlet. and so dorian both gives him a choice to make, something to do, and shows him that he still trusts him unconditionally. "can she be trusted?" also means "i trust you" and "i'm here with you" and "this is how we've always been."

we know from liam in 4sd that orym has feelings for dorian that he's not sure are reciprocated. but even regardless of the romantic element here, dorian and orym have always had a partnership. they have always been two of a pair. the sequence of events leading to "can she be trusted?" is a perfect microcosm of he relationship between the two of them. it's just incredible.

These aren't full ref sheets but I was trying to take some clear pictures of Hephaistos for later art reasons and then got side tracked doing all of the Pandaemonium bosses so here they are in order. To be brutally honest I never really liked either of these designs compared to every other Hemitheos we get, I think the really brutal black and red of the Phoinix is weakened by gold accents, but I still am always down for gay vampire surf rock. The Savage version kind of looks like Ultimalius as well if you've played XVI.

^ My favourite detail on this is you can see the parasite's outlines in her robes and in her legs, then right through the eye holes on the mask to wrap around the torso. I'm convinced this version of Hegemone is functionally an ant being piloted by a cordyceps infection.

She's very big

Perfect Imperfection: Hephaistos

I'm probably biased by Abyssos being the first raid I was there for day of release but these really are all fantastic. It's also when the story abandons all pretense of not being (at least partly) about family abuse and is loudly using the body horror and shackle motifs to talk about that. It's great. Hephaistos specifically is constantly bulging and twisting in and out of different forms like a highly unstable chimera and the more I look at these the more I notice parts that just should not be there. He's giving everything.

As for the Savage design It's a hard thing to rate as such but my favourite part is the veins that grow down from the eyeholes in his mask like bloody tears.

It's really hard to communicate how huge this nasty tumor crab I zoomed out as far as physically possible in the game engine and subsequently ended up at a goofy angle staring up his nose.

Ephemeral Justice: Themis

Best boy. The double ended lance and second pair of arms are fantastic for this character.

Theos: Athena

In.. almost every final fantasy adventure you're fighting the real villain not at the very end but a little beforehand, the big iconic end boss is often more a metaphorical figure representing everything wrong with that first person's ideals. Athena cut out the middle man and became her own JENOVA.

I do like the moth angel, especially the hollow body full of dubious orbs, but with her eyes closed all the time it gives off the impression of this not even being the true body but some kind of anglerfish lure in the shape of a fairy... which might be true because this exists:

I really really love her twitchy anemone feelers and how the moth body ends up grafted to the rest of it waist down.

Anyway there's the gang I did not specifically intend for this to be design reviews I just wanted to have clear photos because when you actually see them in game there's other things to focus on. In hindsight I can appreciate more the theming of each tier and then the series as a whole, but my only (extremely obvious) observation for now is that every character Athena had a personal hold over is decorated in chains somehow and so I should have seen the Hegemone thing coming lmao. Heph and Aggy are still my favourites I don't think that's changing any time soon. I'm also noticing that Anabaseios is now just old enough for random DF parties to fuck up severely and I find that fun so I'm going to go fight the crab mansion now.

It's interesting that even though Louis goes to the park we don't actually see him doing anything sexual with men there or even interacting with them. Just watching and passing by people hooking up, who are clearly interested in him but Louis just ignores them. I feel this suggests he maybe didn't have sex with anyone in the park at all and really was there just to observe and fantasize and experience the atmosphere. It also brings to my mind what Jacob said about Louis and the vampire community:

I think Louis sees the vampire community and lgbt community in the same way; it brings him some joy and peace to know the the community exists and glimpse it, but he doesn't necessarily want to be a part of it, have a direct experience of living in it and being together with other people. He's eternally an outside observer.

There's also how Louis views sex and relationships in general. Jacob was talking back in s1 how Louis wanted a traditional monogamous relationship with Lestat and how hurtful it was to him that Lestat wanted to sleep with other people - and that Lestat at first (untruthfully) said that he would be fine with Louis sleeping with other people. I don't think that's just about Lestat either - i think Louis is (both because of his personality and catholic upbringing) fundamentally someone who wants a passionate, committed relationship with one person, and wouldn't in most circumstances be comfortable with an open relationship or casual sex.

When Armand approaches Louis in the park he's gentlemanly and romantic and essentially asks him out on a date. Even though they are immediately attracted to each other if Armand's approach would've been blatantly sexual i think Louis would've turned him down. I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't had sex with anyone after Lestat in the years before meeting Armand. I think the hallucination of Lestat interrupting Louis and Armand before they've even done anything and calling Louis a whore also implies this. In the traditional catholic thinking sex outside marriage is always seen as sinful, and sometimes it's been considered infidelity even if your spouse has died.

From this point of view it's also interesting that Louis still eventually ends up having threesomes with Armand and lots of casual sex. During the interview they present this to Daniel as something fun and happy, but when young Daniel met them they seemed to be unhappy. Does it represent freedom and happiness to Louis or is that more something he's telling to himself? Or both? Neither, something in between? In any case i'm curious to see how we get to the point where someone as monogamous as Louis feels comfortable enough to have threesomes together with his partner and many strangers

Hi, how do you manage to see children as good? I would like to, but I only see them as inconsiderate and terrifing in a way a military robot would be terrifing. Not evil, because they are wired that way and it's just who they are, but everyone would be better off avoiding them. I've been to therapy because I was bullied, but I didn't change my mind. I kinda feel like it's an elephant in the room and I am right. I'd like to hear the good stories as often as possible tho, maybe sth will change

I'm not coming for you, but with all due respect it's not "just who they are".

Children aren't military robots because they aren't lifeless hunks of machinery incapable of thought or feelings; they are human beings (like you were at that age) who are trying to make sense of the world around them (like you did at that age), and who want to be a part of that world and feel welcome in it (like you did at that age). They are not coded to do the same thing over and over with no input from anyone else, they are not machines singly wired for carnage: they watch, learn, adapt, respond and interact with things around them because these are smaller, younger versions of you and me learning what it means to exist on this planet in the first place with barely any filters, impulse control and absolutely no guidance on how to do this except what the environment around them (parents, friends, family, teachers) tell them is and isn't okay.

I don't believe this is a matter of inherent goodness or lack thereof--I don't believe anyone is inherently good or bad: what I believe is that we are all inherently social creatures who desperately want to be part of our communities and involved with other people. Children are no different. They want to learn, they want to help, they want to figure out where they belong in their little social units and they look to you to tell them where that is because they don't know yet. And if they are in an environment where bullying is okay (either because they were treated horribly and no one did anything or they see and hear others being treated horribly and no one did anything or they treated someone else horribly and no one did anything) than that is what they'll accept.

If you follow your logic that everyone is "better off "avoiding children--what then? How do you expect them to learn right from wrong if no one is volunteering to teach them? How do you expect bullying to stop if no one is taking the time to instill it in them that bullying is not okay? How do you expect them to ever learn to be kind and considerate when everyone around them makes it clear they're not wanted? How do you expect them to learn what any kind of care and responsibility looks like if everyone is avoiding them to begin with? How do you expect them to think for themselves and reach their own conclusions if you treat them all like a monolith? Every single adult is an ex-baby, an ex-child, an ex-teenager--how do you expect decent adults to come into this world if you avoid teaching all three of those?

I'm not saying any of this to dismiss what you went through or undermine the horror and the impact of it, and I genuinely am sorry you were put through so much. But the best way I can answer your question is with full honesty: and I think it is going to be difficult for you to find those "good stories" and be open to them if you are already convinced that you are right because of what happened to you, that children are automatically feral terrors and that everyone else is just pretending otherwise or ignoring the reality. I believe what I believe because I've spent years around kids and seen all sides of them. I know they can say horrible things. But I also know they learnt those horrible things from a careless adult, or another child exposed to a careless adult. Children can be terrifying--but they are terrifying to other children. And that terror is coming from a reactive and limited understanding of the world where so much of what happens to you often feels like it's coming from large, hidden, horrible forces you can't wrap your head around (because you can't, because your head is 8 years old). But the fact is adults are also terrifying to children. And which of those are you now?

I can't speculate on what you went through or how you processed it, but I think it's worth considering that you may still be looking at children through the eyes of the child you once were and the horrible experiences you had. Again, I'm not dismissing that pain--it's real and it happened to you, and I can absolutely understand your feelings and conclusions--but that doesn't mean they equate to objective conclusions or generalization about all children, especially since you were a child: would you look at yourself like something similar to a military robot? Would you want to have felt the adults around you thought it better to stay away from you? And what about the people in your life that you care about most? Can you imagine them when they were children, like you were? Would you think the same thing about them?

If you want to change your mind, you need to put yourself in situations where that opportunity arises without expecting that your belief is the default. If you can, ask teachers what their fondest memories are of teaching--what's the funniest thing they've heard, what's the kindest thing they've seen, what's surprised them most about kids? What have they learnt from kids (because you do learn--you learn all the time). Ask people who love children why they love children, or simply see if you can find discussions on forums where people share those stories. As I said, I've heard and seen kids do some awful things--but those are tiny compared to everything I've seen that is the opposite (boys giggling face to face on a hill, a tiny toddler waving at me on a bus, a child naming a slug that crept in through his window, a 9 year old boy trying to teach me morse code after having known me for 2 minutes despite how long it took me to understand). It might also help if you give yourself the opportunity to learn a little about child psychology--if people's experiences aren't enough for you, then maybe getting insights into how children's actual brains and minds work might. If you're curious, there's a documentary series from 2015 or so that follows 4, 5, and 6 years olds as they play and engage with each other here to try and understand what their world looks like.

Sincerely, I don't mean for any of this to sound harsh and I really hope it doesn't--but at the end of the day there isn't a secret, pure anecodte that will magically make you change your mind. Change isn't passive; it's something you decide to do and actively work on and that includes challenging your own beliefs by providing them with new and wider information. I'm not saying you have to become a kindergarten teacher to do this, or start spending all your time around children. But if we are going to survive in this world and forge any kind of lasting connections we have to be able to offer some amount of grace and understanding to each other and the people in our lives--and that goes doubly for the people who have barely even begun learning to be people at all.

oh boy it's that time again

when rachel posts 'video progress' of her work and we proceed to dissect it like a frog in 9th grade science class

like ok first the caption of "is persephone the chicken and hades the egg" makes no fucking sense except to anyone who overthinks it and goes "wait is that a reference to the popularly-perpetuated version of the myth where persephone went down to the underworld willingly and hades didn't actually exist???" because if it is ima scream lmao

but MORE IMPORTANTLY-

Here's the transcript of what she's saying in the video:

"I think I've always wanted to write Hades' and Persephone's story because obviously I really like them. It's like very much a chicken and egg situation because I think in the beginning I thought that I was going to use a very abstract black and white style, and I realized it wasn't very enticing or fun for me, um... and I started drawing these very like vibrant characters and as I drew them I understood more about the story the more that I explored the art style, um and I guess an example of that is, y'know, Persephone is like a very bright color um, and the Underworld, is a very dark dark blue, and so when she says she really sticks out so it's just environmental uh processes like that that really helped inspire the direction of the story."

(despite her expanding on the "chicken and the egg" bit it still doesn't make sense imo lmao)

But what we're seeing isn't S1 LO, it's actually from S3 of LO:

But um... you notice anything interesting about the screenshot I just showed you?

That literally looks NOTHING like what we see in the final panel. At the VERY least I think this goes to show how overcooked it becomes in post-production, when they add the canvas layer and hypersaturate the shit out of the colors, but even the blending technique just isn't matching up?

A lot of what she's doing in this video also feels very... non-existent, like she's brushing her pen around but very little is happening so it feels more like her just putting down random brush strokes to try and make it seem put-together but really she's just kind of pushing colors around and/or doing nothing. Especially when, again, what she's painting here looks nothing like the final picture (so at best it's a lot of wasted work??)

And knowing what we know about the assistants drawing the characters separately so that Rachel can rearrange them in the final episode layout... I don't wanna call foul play here, but this feels like yet another attempt on Rachel's behalf to make her process seem more involved than it is by simply redrawing a scene for the performative aspect of it all. It's like the "sketches" in the books looking way too 'clean' for the final product and giving the impression that she just sketched over the final panels to make them look pretty enough for print.

I also wanna mention that for some reason she's drawing this on her iPad when she owns a Cintiq. It could be because she was drawing this while abroad in the US for her conventions last fall, but despite clearly being ahead of schedule, she still wound up drawing the final episode the night of-

Oh yeah and btw there are like a million clipping layers for what looks like just a simple drawing of Demeter. And this lines up with our previous theories about her using like 128549021809 layers for literally one character.

And aside from all that her commentary, as always, is very nothingburger, just a bunch of word salad. Like she's literally trying to explain LO's color theory as "well Persephone is bright pink and the Underworld is dark blue so she sticks out! That's all you need to know!"

IDK, I'm not coming to any sort of ironclad conclusion based off this one video, but it does feel like yet another desperate attempt to prove that she does work on LO and doesn't just leave it all to her assistants to do at the last minute. But like... she's kind of screwed in that argument either way, because even if she draws the majority of panels in LO, that just further proves the argument that she's stopped trying.

A mix of HCs and character analysis, if Imma be honest.

1.) His arrogance is an act - both to himself and to others; although a part of him IS actually crazy. He grew up a spoiled rich kid, yes, but the weight of what he represented in the Jujutsu world has been ingrained in him since…well, he could conceptualize things. He is the strongest, and as such he is responsible for the world's safety (at least against curses) - it is in danger if he isn't. He's the strongest because he also HAS to be. 2.) Is definitely a boy dad to his students - guy OR girl. Though, like Nanami, he does try to make sure his female students feel comfortable around him; he's just more obnoxious about it. Not condescending...just obnoxious. Calls out and makes fun of the male students that make the girls uncomfortable, gives them more breaks if they specify that it's their time of them month and they need it, calls them a cab he can monitor to get them home safe (though he does this for all of his students, to be fair), or other stuff along the likes of that. 3.) Bisexual and Demiromantic, but his first and currently only love was Geto. 4.) Is apathetic to the weak because thinking about them would only weigh him down. Moreso than Suguru's betrayal, I think the deaths of his friends - who were arguably the weaker ones - really solidified in his mind just how important it was to be the strongest because it was so personal to him. The more he cares about the weak, the more he thinks about that instead of BEING it - it's an unnecessary weight. He only needs to focus on being the strongest, and then he can be there for the weak if they need him. 5.) HOWEVER, Geto's betrayal and Nanami's initial quitting only further served to isolate him, to prove to him that strength = loneliness. This is probably where his dream of creating more sorcerers equal to him in strength came from. Guy knows how lonely it is at the top, and doesn't want that for anyone else.

Gojo Satoru HCs - Fanon Gojo x Reader

These can be read as either platonic or romantic. Reader's gender and sex isn't specified.

1.) Teacher has a faaaavoriiiittee…(if romantic then favorite other teacher, random person, sorcerer, NOT student)… 2.) Despite how bold he often is, Gojo shows that he cares and looks out for you in very subtle ways - whether that be gently convincing you to take a break when you clearly need it, standing in between you and the road, giving you his umbrella when it's raining (he doesn't need it - he kept it for you in case you ever did), carrying extra meds you may need on hand, or even just getting you a snack, coffee or tea when you need a pick me up. 3.) Congratulations, you now have access to a luxurious mansion(s)! Gives you the keys to one of his many estates. Come and go as you please. 4.) If anybody makes you upset, he won't do anything drastic per se but…he WILL embarass them, somehow - though he often disguises it as a harsh joke at the expense of the other. 5.) Grew up as a weapon, basically, and when he finds someone that actually treats him like a person - he sticks to them like glue, without even realizing it.

Fanon Gojo - Romantic

Honestly, not much LMAO - I'll save that for the actual fic in, like, 10 years from now. Mostly Gojo fluff, some mentioned sexual activities, and Sub!Gojo.

1.) Inexperienced with women. As much as I love the fanon interpretation of Gojo, he has probably never once touched a woman in his life, even if he and Geto were popular during their younger years. Because he has so many responsibilities, and the Jujutsu world won't give him a break, you guys don't actually spend much time together - even moreso if you're a sorcerer, too. Expect missing anniversaries, cancelled plans, mismatched schedules, even nights without each other. Despite this, Gojo does try for you, he really does. He calls and texts whenever he can, sees you the moment his schedule allows, and brings home something for you every time.

You know it really kind of rub me wrong way how a lot of the fandom talks about Gege. Like it doesn't really fell like lighthearted "hate" one display when an author write something tragic, but a lot of it fell like genuine contempt towards them because bad or sad things happened in the bad or sad things happen manga.

No, it doesn't feel like "lighthearted hate" at all.

Maybe I'm just sensitive, but it does in fact makes me uncomfortable when I see posts like "Gege should die" or any other harmful phrase.

Half of the time, I don't think anyone actually is saying this in a "Oh, I don't mean it" because people will go as far as sending threats to creators. Hell, they'll do it to fan creators.

Mind you, over fiction that creator owns.

I get not liking writing decisions, you don't hate to. Sometimes, I'm like "NNNNNNOOOO, WHY".

But at the end of the day, I don't wish bodily harm to Gege or any other creator whose work I engage in.

I don't see the point. It's ridiculous. Like, do you really wish harm on this creator for fiction? A story that you can just drop?

People in fandoms will go "how dare that mangaka mistreat their characters" but be the same ones who will write and draw fanart of characters IN WORSE SITUATIONS.

Look, I adore a lot of the JJK cast, Gojo and Yuta being two characters. And yes, this chapter has saddened me but I also saw it coming.

This is what I don't get. Some of these fans are mad at Gege for this chapter but I doubt any of them actually paid attention to Yuta or Gojo's stories. No, they're too busy wishing they were the MCs of the main storyline but when they do some MC shit, it's a problem. Too busy reducing the characters to "Oh, so powerful, oh so much rizz" but were blind to how truly tragic both them are.

Nah, y'all wanted Yuta and Gojo to do everything (WHICH IS A BAD THING, ARE WE NOT PAYING ATTENTION). Yuji wasn't enough! Y'all wanted Yuta and Gojo to come back so bad and look! Gege gave a 2-in-1 deal!

"I didn't want it like this!" I didn't either, but I don't wish Gege should choke over it. Not over some story that I knew was gonna go like this.

He awoke in modern-day New York and joined the Avengers in his red and blue costume and black mask. It's also how he met the most annoying person in the world. Peter. Benjamin. Parker. Better known as Spiderman from YouTube.

It was no secret that Steve and Tony were on opposite sides of things whenever their integraties were questioned, but they managed to make it work, unlike, Y/N and Peter, who fought and argued that it seemed like sexual tension.

"It'll stand, soldier." Steve smiles. "What have I told you? A good soldier works with all his friends and even his rivals."

Post mystic flour eps the cacaonian cookies return to crispia, yet not all have recovered from their brush with apathy.

Wildberry cookie, who turned around and came back just after the others had left on a gut feeling, goes to see them and sees crunchy chip who doesn't look right. He finds out that a lot of them haven't quite recovered their full emotions back, and while dark cacao did overcome mystic flour and got stronger he needs to recover himself before he can really help anyone else, Dark choco is doing his best but obviously is not fully prepared either. The unit get to go have a break while they all figure out what to do about the cookies who are struggling, some recover fairly quickly once they get back, some don't. Caramel, Crunchy and the other two among the latter.

Wild is utterly devastated and stays even longer to help find an answer. Helping out dark choco at first until dark cacao is back on his feet, and then focusing particularly on his boyfriend and trying to get a reaction, anything to prove he's under there. He gets a little progress via the creamwolf pack, sees the spark in crunchys eyes flash for but a moment when they all rush him for attention. After that though it's nothing and it's incredibly taxing to see all that passion gone.

He finds himself in the uncomfortable position of being the more openly emotional of the pair, and also asking himself if crunchy will still love him after, if he ever gets his feelings back. It's not a pleasant feeling to have when you have a ring in your pocket you'd been working on while he was away saving the world.

Caramel arrow is no help, arguably in a worse condition that Crunchy Chip, because he ends up talking to second watcher who is a wreck over his nieces condition, he already lost her parents, and to him this is even worse because she's still technically alive, but she's hardly spoke and not even taken to the training grounds to use her bow which she used to love doing.

Crunchy does notice the general mood and points it out.

Wildberry, being fed up by this point, just steels himself and tells Crunchy that once he's better he'll take him on a date. A proper one. No monsters or fighting or imminent doom. He knows he can get better and he will. They'll go have a picnic in the woods or go visit crunchys family over in his home village, hang out with the wolf pack or go get another herring jelly pie.

"I..... I think I'd....like ..that?"

"I know"

Then Wildberry kisses him and when they pull away all of a sudden crunchy reacts to it in his typical style, something like "woof, that was a surprise" or something

And they both laugh and then Wild suddenly realises that what they needed this whole time was some big feeling to kick start their emotions, all the quickly recovered soldiers had partners or children- (second watcher was too busy to give Caramel the overwhelming amount she would need to recover)

They both quickly report what happened and run off to find Caramel

i just want to live in the action sequence for a second because it was literally so good ♡ and despite there being basically one line of dialogue, so much was said???

starting off with the fact that it's lucy and angela going after tim. the way lucy was literally on it the moment the truck pulled away with tim in the back and how angela came running to join lucy without a question. these are two women who always have and always will be at his six, they will always protect and look out for one another without a question.

the absolute fear and worry in lucy's face as they watch the entire thing unfold and it's obvious that tim doesn't have the upper hand; and how the moment the guy starts stabbing tim, lucy speeds up to pull next to them because she has to do something.

it's the way there's absolutely no hesitation in her decision to go help him as she tells angela to take the wheel so she can climb out of one moving car and jump into another while they're both speeding down the road??? while angela doesn't say anything and does just that, we see her reaction to how how dangerously insane lucy's decision is because one wrong move from either car and she's all but done for.

because here's the thing, there's no doubt in my mind that they wouldn't go after any of their own who needs back-up/may be in danger but the stunt lucy pulled? i don't think she'd jump out of a moving car for just anyone nor would have angela let her? i do think they would have exchanged a few more words in trying to come up with a game plan on how to help rather than this silent communication and understanding that there was no stopping lucy from jumping out that window to get to tim.

our girl being the absolute badass that she is, sticks the landing! 🎉 no time to celebrate though because the moment she has her balance, she's on the guy like hands wrapped around his neck, with one mission only and that's to save tim bradford's life even if it means risking her own again in a matter of seconds because aside from the jump, the likelihood of them plowing into something is also pretty high when none of the three have control of the truck.

again, there's no dialogue and yet they're able to effectively communicate and swiftly get control of the situation — lucy taking the guy out and trying to steer the wheel while tim managing to get to the brake to stop the car.

AND EVEN ONCE THEY'VE STOPPED AND THEY'RE SAFE THEY STILL DON'T SAY A WORD???? BUT THEY DON'T NEED TO BECAUSE THOSE LOOKS SAID IT ALL.

what i find so interesting though is once they part gazes, the difference in expression they both hold? because lucy looks like she's processing what just happened while tim's processing the fact that she just saved his life (and everything that comes with what this means). even as the cameras pan out and they're still both catching their breath, neither of them say anything but they share another look before turning to angela arresting the guy 🥺

"Ashes, Ashes" and Eddie Diaz's Grief

This entire post is just about Eddie, literally him and him alone lol

Good lord what a stressful fucking episode.

Just to start off, after Buck meets KIM WHEN SHE JUST SWAGS ON IN TO THE FIREHOUSE WITH HER BROWNIES, the way Eddie opens the back door like he's not sure who would be there, only for him to scoff when Buck asks if he can come in...it's giving "this is Eddie's house, I'm not really a guest."

"Eddie...who's Kim?"

And Eddie immediately turning away from him and picking up dishes to put in the sink...yeah my man how's that denial taste?

"Marisol's my girlfriend. Kim's just...a friend."

"Just a friend who's a...dead ringer for your late wife?"

I don't think there's anyone else in the world who could talk like this to Eddie. I genuinely think he would turn tail and run if it was anyone else.

I noticed when Eddie says that "nothing's going on" he has an eerily similar expression on his face when Ana showed up to the firehouse. And Buck clocked him then, too.

"It's not even what I want from her."

"Okay. So what do you want?"

"I...don't know."

And that's it. That's Eddie's narrative arc. He doesn't want Shannon. He thinks he does, he's so lost in this fantasy of having her back, of doing things "right this time" that he's convinced himself that, if he could just have her alive again, everything would be perfect. He doesn't want Marisol, we know that, but he doesn't want Kim either. And if I'm honest, he wouldn't want Shannon if he had her back.

What does Eddie want? What does he really want? It's a question none of us can answer. In fact, I don't even think Eddie can answer it right now.

"Does this poor woman know that she is a carbon copy of your dead wife?"

Absolutely brutal line. Wake his ass up, Buck!!!!

"I'm worried about you."

"Yeah. I'm worried about me too."

I AM ALSO VERY WORRIED ABOUT YOU EDDIE!!!

Insane that after one (1) conversation with Buck, Eddie decides to come clean to Kim. The power that he holds.

"Have you been spending time with me? Or with her?"

What a fucking gut punch of a line.

"I didn't realize how much I...missed her. Then I saw you."

This is the thing!!! It's almost like he feels like seeing Kim somehow gives him a second chance with Shannon. If he could just have Shannon back, if he could just do it all over again, he would do it right. They would finally have that happy, perfect relationship that he remembers, he would finally be the best husband that he could be, Chris would finally be happy.

He doesn't seem to get that Chris is already happy. OF COURSE he misses his mom, he always will, and Eddie will always miss Shannon, but dragging in this person that just happens to look like her to cling to this semblance of a perfect marriage that never even existed in the first place? Yikes, my guy.

"I guess she was the love of your life."

"I think she was. Yeah. Though I'm not sure I knew at the time."

Because what he remembers isn't real!!! He's whitewashed this relationship to the point that it's not recognizable. She's the love of his life...that he ran away from before she even gave birth to enlist in the army. The love of his life that he reenlisted to stay away from. The love of his life that he fought with constantly. The love of his life that left him a few months after he was discharged. The love of his life that asked him for a divorce days before she died.

I'm not saying relationships are all sunshine and rainbows, but we saw next to none of that with Shannon and Eddie. The sex was good, they both loved Chris, they cared for each other deeply...but love of his life?

I don't even know that he would be able to identify what that even means for him.

I think his grief has taken so much from him, he can vocalize how much time they spent apart in their marriage, how so much of it didn't work, but it's like it doesn't get all the way through to him. Kim is right when she says they have unfinished business, because that's what happens when you lose someone unexpectedly like that. It's clear Eddie has never gotten over it, maybe never even tried to process it, but seeing Kim brought it all back to the surface, similar to how realizing that all of the people in his unit were dead brought up his untreated PTSD.

He so carefully bottles everything up until it explodes, and this is no different, we're just seeing the explosion and the fallout of something he has tried to tamp down for five years.

Look y'all, I felt as bad for Kim as anybody could, she did not deserve to be used as a pawn in Eddie's strange journey with grief, but for her to show up with those fuck ass bangs and basically cosplay as Shannon to try and get Eddie to open but about his grief???? WHAT ARE WE DOING????

I think ultimately, this comes down to the fact that Kim is trying, in a very weird, very misguided way, to do a good thing. Eddie said he never got closure, and was trying to use her for that closure, so she thought that, if she just dressed up like Shannon, she could help him move on from her.

But for her, this is an acting job. For Eddie (and for Chris), the loss of Shannon is very, very real.

"Who's Kim?" WAS FUCKING CRAZY. ABSOLUTE FREAK ENERGY.

"I know I wasn't a perfect husband, I did my fair share of running too."

Babe...you ran the whole ENTIRE time...

"I came back because I couldn't imagine a life without...without you."

I'm so fascinated by this delivery, because is he looking at Kim and having a hard time saying that? Or is he looking at SHANNON and having a hard time saying that?

"And you know what? I still can't. But I'm still living it. But it's broken. I'm broken. And I can't fix it. This is the life I have now. This is the life from now on. The life...without you. You were supposed to be here with me, baby. And now you're not. And you never will be."

First of all...Ryan Guzman...actor that you are.

This monologue is so heartbreaking because that grief is still such a raw nerve. He's stuck in that moment in the back of the ambulance. wishing that he had done things differently.

But the thing is...Kim is talking to him as a person that she doesn't know, as a person who never existed.

Eddie asks why he never got a letter, but he doesn't mention that she wanted a divorce. He can mention all the times he left her, or she left him, or even the fights they had, but he can't seem to ever remember, ever think about that. His speech seems doubled sided. It's not just that she left them when she died...it's that she was going to leave him before, WHEN SHE WAS ALIVE. It's that she didn't want to make things work and he never got to ask her why.

And then...the other shoe.

"Mom?"

I think we all knew Chris would find out one way or another, and while I hope that conversation with "Shannon" was healing for Eddie, it is going to set Chris back years. Because he doesn't know that it's not her! For all he knows, his mom is back again, answering that Christmas wish he asked for five years ago all over again.

I'm gonna be honest, I love Eddie so much, more than anything, but I was...pretty fucking pissed the moment they walked through that door and he called Kim "mom." Because it was SELFISH, and Eddie has never been allowed to be selfish, not once in all his life, and I wish I could support this selfishness now, but not at the cost of Chris. AND I KNOW EDDIE FEELS THE SAME WAY! This is going to fuck him up just as much as it fucks Chris up!

I know that Tim has talked about how season 7 is kind of a mirror for season 4. He's trying to get back to that narrative and tell the story he wants to tell again. If we look at that, we know that Eddie is incapacitated (shot) at the end of season 4, and that, after his recovery, he tells Buck that he's in his will, that he will get Chris if something happens to him.

Well. Something is really happening to him now. And they couldn't have Eddie near death again, but what if he becomes incapable of taking care of Chris in another way? We know that Helena and Ramon are in the last episode too...what if someone calls them, and they plan to take Chris back to Texas, only for it to be revealed to them that Buck is the one that gets Chris, not them?

This plotline was so strange in so many ways, but I think it served a very specific purpose for Eddie to begin to move beyond his grief over Shannon. And while we are, in no way, finished with the fallout of it, I hope that this conversation with Kim will help him be able to move forward with his life, instead of sticking himself in relationships he thinks he needs to be in to fill the void in his life that he thinks Shannon left.

And yes, I'm a Buck and Eddie truther until the day I die, but I really just want Eddie to begin to process this raw grief, because this was clearly the first time he had even tried.

It seems like we have A LOT to deal with in the finale, and with everything going on, I'll be interested to see the aftermath of this moment, and how it effects Eddie and Chris' relationship in particular.

Thank you for your ask! So, I am going to break this down by fandoms. Enjoy!

The BatFam:

I'm starting with my favorite family of Cryptids. I believe that anyone who's ever been in a relationship with one of the bats has generally the same thing that annoys the crap out of them. In fact, I'm sure there's plenty of things. However, I want to talk about two. The first would be the bats and their paranoia, and the second would be their willingness to throw themselves in the line of fire on TV or with no backup plan that they can admit to having.

Like whoever you ship the bats with you can guarantee that there has been a moment in that relationship where they have had to go and either save them from a villain or save them from falling out of the sky. Only for their bat to go, "I had it."

All of their current and past love interests have so many gray hairs.

Also, to love a bat is to endure their contingency plans. They will have a way to stop you if you turn evil. In fact, they have several, and no, they won't tell you.

On the flip side, I could see the bats being annoyed for the pettiest of reasons.

Like Damian gets annoyed with Jon because he refuses to let him sleep in the barn with the animals...during winter. He also gets annoyed when Jon tries to treat him fragilly. Many arguments have started from that and ended with "IM THE SON OF THE BAT!"

Dick is better. He got most of his gremliness out as a child. However, he will get extremely annoyed if you eat his stash of cereal. Or if you take his siblings' side during an argument.

People do joke that Jason is always annoyed. He isn't, but he also doesn't see a point in hiding his frustration. However, he gets annoyed to death when someone goes into battle unprepared. He is resourceful and will chew people out for getting hurt in a clearly avoidable incident.

Tim is a lot like Jason, where annoyed sometimes feels like his default. However, he only gets annoyed when people talk over him. Or that one time that Bernard told him he couldn't punch his way out of all problems and Conner agreed with him. Tim pouted for like a week. Bernard is constantly annoyed when his boyfriends are late for a dinner date because they stopped a criminal. There's two of them and they both had to get sidetracked? Ridiculous.

Cass doesn't get annoyed, really. Of course, not many people would be brave enough to annoy Cass. Steph can be ridiculous, but Cass usually looks on in fond amusement rather than annoyance. She does love seeing Steph go all superhero mod, though.

MOVING ON!

The Mighty Ducks

Banksway: There are definitely a couple of things that drive Adam crazy with annoyance but also crazy with love at the same time. One thing is when Charlie truly believes something, he will stubbornly follow his beliefs even to the point of ruin. Like I could see Charlie coming out because he is so intent on his feelings for Adam and he's like "I'm not going to fucking hide you!" It's so endearing but but Adam really wishes he would just listen to him. He also gets annoyed with Charlie stubbornness. Especially since a lot of the times if Charlie thinks he's right he will act like he's right. Until he's proven wrong. However if he is proven right he will rub it in Adam's face a little bit. On the flip side when it comes to Adam Charlie gets annoyed that he doesn't always voice how he really feels. Like unless you push Adam to the breaking point, he will conceal; don't feel his way out of most things. It's not that animal won't fight for things it's just that a lot of things you just doesn't see the reason to put in the effort. He's very good at following rules, and Charlie wishes he wasn't.

Gerreau: I don't think there's much that Connie and Guy get annoyed with each other about. It does drive guy crazy with love when he sees Connie do her leadership thing. Like he loves to see her take charge. He doesn't know it but Connie does the same thing with him. She loves to Hype him up and she just adores him. Like he could bake cookies and she would just be so madly in love because he did that. It is truly adorable.

Hazbin Hotel

Now you didn't specify fandoms, so I'm including this one because these are some of my newer ships.

Huskerdust:

Obviously, Husk gets annoyed when Angel is fake. It drives him insane when he tries to hide how he's actually feeling behind his facade. However, it also drives him crazy with love when he gets to see Angel do something he really loves, like dancing. He just gets all warm and fuzzy all over. For Angel, it drives him mad when Husk thinks badly of himself or thinks that he isn't worth redeeming. He gets very passionate and will scream affection at Husk. Saying things like how he is worth more than any of those other lowlives outside the hotel. Then he will hug and cuddle Husk until he agrees with him.

Radioapple:

I feel like a better question is what these two do that doesn't drive the other person crazy. Like Alastor can stand slightly different and Lucifer will think he's doing it to annoy him. Which is exactly what Alastor is doing. They are constantly butting heads, and that's why they work. No one pushes them to outdo themselves like the others! Sometimes, they even push each to be better, if only on accident. They are a disaster, and that's why I love them.

Chaggie:

I don't think it's a big annoyance, but I do feel like Vaggie gets a little annoyed at Charlie's willfulness to trust almost anyone. Vaggie is always on edge if there is even a chance someone will betray them. However, Charlie isn't like that, and it can be frustrating. However, that's also why Vaggie loves her. It drives her insane with love when she sees Charlie tap into all her power and show the world who they are messing with. For Charlie, she kinda gets frustrated with Vaggie's trust issues, but she tries not to express it. She is driven mad with love when she sees her girlfriend fight for the hotel.

➨ I feel like Macaque would most likely have tons of boundaries for you to respect until he allows it to be surpassed. Since you know, his previous strongest relationship ended so badly, he doesn't want to talk about how bad it affected him.

➨ So go soft on him. He's trying his best to be there for you, but he does want to be respected for his privacy. Wait until he's ready.

➨ But I think, if you manage to break down those walls he’s build up, he eventually become more open and try to is willing to be a lot more genuine with his affection towards you, as being a tease and flirtatious were the most romantic he could ever be before trusting you with listening to his problems.

➨ Also I'd think he wouldn't show that kind of vulnerability in front of anyone else except you. He is NOT going to put up with Wukong and his nonsense.

➨ I headcanon that Macaque is more touch starved than Wukong. Don't get me wrong, Wukong is touch starved for sure, but I believe he's been surrounded by adoring fans as they see him as the ��hero’, and no one really pays attention to Macaque.

➨ Macaque is definitely an introvert, but does consider taking you out for dates somewhere in Megapolis or somewhere isolated for the both of you to not get interrupted. I think he preferably wants to either cuddle or Netflix and chill at his dojo or your place.

➨ I'd assume as you and Macaque got to hang out with each other and understand your likes and dislikes, he would be able to do things to make you blush, smile or laugh; whether it's a little joke or a thoughtful gift.

➨ Macaque loves being intimate with you. Like, once he gets comfortable being physical, he'd start cuddling or pulling you close by the waist as he gently holds you.

➨ He won't say it out loud, but he will let you know that he adores you when you give him the same kind of treatment he does for you. Like if you were to seek the security of his arms as you casually on the couch, cuddling. Just you know that he internally cherishes that moment forever. Or if you shower him with kisses, Macaque will absolutely melt from the affection.

➨ I wouldn't say that he is extremely possessive over you (as much as most people seem to headcanon) I'd believe he entrusts you with defending yourself, but whenever things get too serious, then he steps in and protects you.

➨ When it comes to nicknames for each other, if you were to create nicknames that refer to his shadow abilities or moody demeanour, Macaque would eye roll, but deep down, feels flattered.

➨ However, the nicknames that he'd give to you would be like babe, sweetheart, darling and lovely. These were the default pet names in the beginning before he got creative, like referring to you as cutie, babycakes, sugar, doll, and his personal favourite: ✨ ️ sugarplum ✨ (I'm bad with coming up with nicknames)

➨ Judging from his liking to shadow plays and performing in general, I'd headcanon that he observes the romantic aspects to the play, and tries testing them on you to see which one you would like or not.

➨ While observing these plays, he developed his romantic language as he learned new compliments and picked up lines to use on you. But don't test him. If you try to be snarky about your flirting skills, he will immediately turn the tables and it will end up you losing and as red as a tomato.

➨ On the topic of Macaque being a theatre fanatic, BIG fan of music, especially musicals and classical music. He'd show his interest with you by letting you listen, and if you like his genre of music, both of you would end up talking about your favourite musicals or opera or whatever it is you like, and probably rant about the remakes that aren't as good as the original.
