It's bittersweet to say that I finally have finished DIVE. It's taken me actually around 20 years to get the story to where it is today, frankly I never thought I'd actually finish it but I did. I've gone through countless drafts but this one seemed to be the one that actually stuck.
DIVE started out as funny enough a Dragon Ball Z fanfiction staring me and my friends as super sayians. There was a lot that influenced me to make the story but what got me started writing in the first place was wanting to take the adventurous daydreams I used to fall asleep to as a kid into a story since I'd pick up where I left off night after night. Sometimes I'd replay a scene in my head over and over again if I liked them enough, that's kind of how this was.
The more I grew up, the more the story matured and changed too. It's a far cry from the beginning and what I had initially imagined but I'm happy to say it's done. I hit a lot of writers block and I had two major drafts that were almost 400 pages a piece that I scrapped before I got to the version of the story I was happy with. I pulled a lot of late nights getting lost in the world I created, I revamped countless characters and story beats until I was satisfied with where it was.
There's something about accomplishing this one goal that really tickles a deep part of me, it's a lot of emotions all in one considering it was this hobby of mine that helped me get through some of the roughest patches of my life. It was that thing that was always there and is still my escape from reality when I need it.
I got the bulk of the story done during the pandemic. The only arc I didn't finish during that time was actually the first one, which was about a year before.
I've got some small revisions to do and to edit a couple of details but overall the story is fine the way it is. I'm sure I'll be rereading the 5th arc sometime soon and I know I want to go back and fix the the climax of the 4th arc - add a little more grandeur. Other than that it'll be getting the story transformed into a comic which will be done in full colour. It's a big project but it's the next step I want to take with this.
I know with the comic version it'll be longer than the written considering some of the flash backs will be elaborated on. Instead of just hearing about some of the events - you'll get to see them. I think it'll be fun for the reader that way. Other than that I've got some side stories I'd like to write up, perhaps some NSFW one shot stories too.
Either way I've got a lot to do.
Cheers!

Unalloyed Needle
The rot infested crystalian shattered, and Fyra took up her seal, casting law of regression to cure herself of scarlet rot. She reached at her belt for her lanturn, holding it up in the air to spread the light around a little more.
Overgrown plants, books upon books, diagrams of formulas and calculations. Not ontly that, everything seemed… Small.
Short desks, small chairs, like for a child.
The were very deep in Elphael, and it seemed the finally found where Miquella devised his unalloyed gold, and his plans to cure the curses his sister and himself had been born with.
“This is it…” Fyra begann looking, combing through everything to try and find something. A needle was not even needed, just a hunk of the metal. She scrambled for anything at all, finally opening a box, inside containing what she was looking for.
“How do we know they will work?” Melina asked, looking around the room curiously.
Fyra took one between her fingers, looking at it carefully. Finally she held out her arm, biting her lip anxiously.
Melina turned to her sharply. “What are you-”
“The lost grace is from the Greater Will… if this can block you from the influence of a god of rot, then it will work on me too.”
“You can’t use yourself, Fyra-”
Frya slipped the needle into her arm, the act no worse than a pinch. She blinked, and then looked up, slowly turning to look behind her.
Melina had an expression on her face for once. Concern. But what Fyra noticed most of all, was that there was no gold.
No trail of light, nothing at all. Then she pulled the needle out.
Slowly, very slowly, the gold began to shimmer again, filling the room, again forming a glowing trail of grace. Fyra let out the breath she had been holding.
It worked.
“Can you see it still?” Melina asked, voice strained.
“I can.”
Relief. Melina’s eye close and she let out a long slow sigh. She opened it again and her eye moved, looking out the doorway.
“If we are already here… Shall we not?”
“There will come a time where her rune will have to be handed over to someone.” Fyra said, the needle clutched in her hand, “But that won’t be today, it might not even be me.”
“It should be you.” Melina affirmed, “Gideon believes it should as well.”
“Well… I don’t know yet.” Fyra carefully wrapped the needle up, and set it in a small box to keep it safe, “I just want to be happy.”
She put the mall box into her pack. “Thank you for helping me get this far… I have it from here.”
“... If that is your desire… But I will be near, should you have need of me.”

11 years ago I graduated college.
And today I completed a semester class that I've been wanting to do for 13 years.
I finally feel complete. I don't care it wasn't another degree. I finally took, completed and passed Microbiology. The one god damn class I was denied when I was in undergrad.
And guess what? I FUCKING LOVED IT!!!!

DP x DC AU: Danny desperately wants to find the explosion guy. Tim is really good at covering his tracks... he didn't account for ghosts.
The explosions make it onto TV as purported terror activity and most people haven't heard of that part of the world much less ever given a second thought to care about it. The only real reason it gets reported on has something to do with the Justice League and... Danny knows too much.
He's been in training for Clockwork's court (which he's suspicious of- feels like kingly duty bullshit- but Danny is playing along out of curiosity for now) and he's learned a lot about how the living and non-living worlds collide. That means learning about CW's usual suspects- one of which just happened to have a ton of bases around the area Danny was seeing on the news.
It didn't take long for Danny to try to piece together that whoever blew up Nanda Parbat was trying to fuck with the League of Shadows, and was doing it successfully. Less green portals in the world the better, same goes for assassins. But it gets Danny thinking... Maybe he can employ similar tactics on the GIW Bases that keep spawning on the edges of Amity Park. It would at least set them back while he and his friends navigated the help line desk to request Justice League intervention. None of them can leave Amity Park, so outreach is going to have to be creative.
So Danny figures he'll just find the guy. Call up some ghosts who were there, or er, came from there and get a profile and track him down. But the ghosts keep saying it was The Detective. Annoying!
Danny goes full conspiracy theory, gets Tucker and Sam involved, and begrudgingly asks Wes Weston his thoughts.
He hadn't expected Wes to garble out a thirty minute presentation (that had 100 more slides left to go before he cut it off) about how Batman totally trained with a cult and so did his kids. Danny kind of rolled his eyes but... hey, new avenue of searching in the Infinite Realms at least.
The ghosts confirm that Bombs is for sure not Batman's MO- But maybe his second kid would know? The second kid was already brought back to life though, so no way to easily reach him... Danny starts to realize that this might be the work of a Robin now. Wasn't the red one known for solving cold cases? (Sam provides this information- its a social faux pas to not know hero gossip at Gotham Galas- everything she's learned is against her will).
It all comes to a head when Danny goes about the hard task of opening a portal for the guy to come through at just the right time, explain the infinite realms so he doesn't panic and then describe what the fuck was going on with the GIW. It takes months, just over a full year, of random (educated guesses) portal generating- Finally, Red Robin drops into the land of the dead.
"So, you're the guy I've got to talk to about explosions right?" Danny enthusiastically asks.
Tim thinks he's died and landed in the after life following 56 hours of being awake and plummeting off the side of a building into a Lazarus pool. Nothing makes sense about the kid in front of him.
"Yeah, I got a guy for munitions." Tim answers cooly.
"How do you feel about secretly sanctioned government operations that violate protected rights?"
"Gotta get rid of 'em some how. Need me to point you in the right direction?" This might as well be happening.

you know, I'll admit I was a little gagged that Otohan was willing to gun for Imogen and leave her to bleed out, all things considered. it really makes me wonder what her dynamic with Liliana was like, from Liliana saying she was "surrounded by dangerous people" and Otohan being openly willing to hunt down and try to kill the person who was clearly Liliana's daughter. like. you would think that would garner quite a lot of ill will with Liliana and potentially create a schism in the top structure of her cult's leadership. But she was willing to do it and the only "hesitation" you could point to is her not finishing Imogen off the same way she did Chet, but she clearly had no qualms with killing Imogen. With that in mind, I can't imagine there was much love lost between Otohan and Liliana

Cody and Anakin’s relationship is one that continues to make me absolutely insane.
they have exactly one thing in common and that is that they both love and care about Obi-Wan Kenobi and Captain Rex. that’s it. otherwise, they’re functionally opposites. they have different ideas on fixing problems, different life perspectives, different personalities, ect. but they are both deeply, personally loyal to the people they both love.
they even love Rex and Obi-Wan in completely different ways. but they both still love them. and that means something. in a way i don’t have words for. it’s not respect. it’s not love for each other. but it is something. an understanding, maybe. (before Anakin falls, anyway. after that it’s all ‘i told you i didn’t like him’ from Cody, because he really didn’t care for Anakin’s methods at all and i guarantee it made him wary of Anakin)

Scary scary German syntax... right?
The following sentence exhibits a typical mistake German-learners make: Heute ich gehe in ein Museum.
It's not conjugation ("ich gehe" is correct!), it's not declension ("ein Museum" is correct too!). The issue is "heute ich gehe". Correct would be: Heute gehe ich in ein Museum (or: Ich gehe heute in ein Museum.)
What's the rule here?
It's unfortunately not simply "there can only be one word before the verb"
German word order is so difficult be cause it is so variable. All following sentences are correct and synoymous (though emphasis shifts):
Der Opa schenkt seiner Enkelin zum Geburtstag ein Buch über Autos.
Seiner Enkelin schenkt der Opa zum Geburtstag ein Buch über Autos.
Ein Buch über Autos schenkt der Opa seiner Enkelin zum Geburtstag.
Zum Geburtstag schenkt der Opa seiner Enkelin ein Buch über Autos. All mean: The grandfather gifts his niece a book about cars for her birthday.
What do they all have in common, syntax-wise? There's only one phrase in front of the finite verb. What does this mean? A phrase is a completed (!) unit that can consist of one or more words (depending on the word class (-> noun, verb, …)) Typical word classes that can be a phrase with just one word are:
Proper nouns, plural nouns, personal pronouns, relative pronous (Lukas kocht. Busse fahren. Ich schreibe. Der Mann, der kocht, …)
Adverbs (Heute, Morgen, Bald, Dort, Darum, …) Most other word classes need additional words to form a full phrase:
adjectives need a noun and article: der blaue Ball, der freundliche Nachbar
nouns need a determiner (= article): der Mann, eine Frau, das Nachbarskind
prepositions need… stuff (often a noun phrase): auf der Mauer, in dem Glas, bei der Statue
A finite verb is the verb that has been changed (=conjugated) according to person, time, … All verbs that are NOT infinitive or participles are finite. ich sagte -> "sagte" is the finite verb ich bin gegangen -> "bin" is the finite verb The infinitive and the participle are called "infinite verbs" and are always pushed towards the end (but not always the very end!) of the sentence: Ich bin schon früher nach Hause gegangen als meine Freunde.
So: Before the verb (that is not the participle or infinitive) there can only be one phrase.
Since "heute" is an adverb (-> forms a full phrase on its own) and "ich" is a personal pronoun (-> forms a full phrase on its own), they can't both be in front of the verb "gehe" You have to push one of them behind the verb: Heute gehe ich in ein Museum Ich gehe heute in ein Museum.
Both of these are main clauses (Ger.: Hauptsätze), which in German exhibit "V-2 Stellung", meaning the finite verb is in the second position (after one phrase).
What happens if we push all phrases behind the finite verb?
Gehe ich heute in ein Museum? (Watch out: Gehe heute ich in ein Museum would be ungrammatical! The subject has to come in the second position)
It's a question now!
In German, question sentences (that do not start with a question word like "Was?", "Wo?", …) start with the finite verb (called "V-1 Stellung").
Questions, main clauses,… what's missing?
Dependent clauses!
The third type of sentence exhibits "V-letzt Stellung" or "V-End Stellung", meaning the finite verb is at the very end of the sentence. Ich bin gestern in ein Museum gegangen, … main clause -> V-2 Stellung … weil es dort eine interessante Ausstellung gab. dependent clause -> V-letzt Stellung If you want to practice this....
... determine if the following German sentences are correct. If not, what would be the right way to say it?
Der Zug war sehr voll.
Gestern ich war in der Schule.
Die Lehrerin mich nicht hat korrigiert.
Gehst du heute zur Arbeit?
Das Buch ich finde nicht sehr interessant.
To practice this further, translate the following sentences into German and focus on the order of words:
The boy gave the ball back to me.
I called my girlfriend because I missed her.
The girl saw her brother at the train station.
The horse, which was standing on the field, was white and black.
