i’m kinda feeling a jealous!luke rn…… how do we feel about luke going to cheer for fuve star in one of her matches but afterwards when he’s going to congratulate her, he finds some dude trying to flirt with her. and she’s clearly not interested but luke doesn’t miss the chance to greet her with a kiss and then look at the guy with the most annoyed, dismissive expression ever. then luke smiles. “sorry, was i interrupting?”

a/n: i know nothing about field hockey! beware!

"mr. d, i don't know how you do this," luke muttered, eyes darting between you and clarisse on the field. the score was 1-1 and it was end of 2OT. both teams were gearing up for a shootout for the national title. "i've never been this nervous in my life."

mr. d chuckled from beside him, placing a comforting hand on luke's upper back, "trust me, it doesn't get any easier."

"i think i'm gonna throw up," chris mumbled from beside luke, anxiously waiting for the referee to indicate that the shootout was starting. clarisse was third on the line-up.

"you and me both, brother," luke replied, chewing on his bottom lip. he tugged on his shirt, suddenly feeling confined in the fabric. you were so close to the championship. this was the final game and if you won, you'd be a back-to-back national champion.

luke knew how hard you worked to get here. he often got voice memos from you, ranting about how practice and training wore you out, but he knew you got up bright and early the next day to do it again. you fell asleep on facetime calls often, sometimes only lasting ten minutes before you fell asleep on the call.

"it's starting," chris said, getting up from his seat. "i don't know if i want to watch or look away."

northwestern was up first. goal.

"fuck," travis groaned, echoing the sentiment of fellow unc supporters in the stands.

connor and travis were sitting behind him, both equally nervous to see how the game would unfold. you and clarisse had bought them unc merch to wear to the game, but luke and chris wanted to surprise you and clarisse with diy shirts that said "number [your jersey number/ clarisse's jersey number] biggest fan." you and clarisse both laughed when you saw their shirts. you loved them.

by the time it was clarisse's turn, the score was 1-0 (shootout) with unc trailing behind.

"come on, clar," chris hollered, clapping his hands, "you got this!"

clarisse masterfully maneuvered around northwestern's goalie and sunk the ball into the net. the boys and mr. d screamed in celebration as the score changed to reflect the goal. 1-1. unc was still in it.

clarisse pointed to the stands, eyes finding chris' in the crowd and blew him a kiss. chris beamed as he saw himself on the big screen. he pointed to his shirt, mouthing, "that's my girl!"

"i love how two days ago you guys had no clue how field hockey worked and now look at you," silena teased, adjusting the unc cap on her head.

"we still don't know what's going on, to be honest," luke replied sheepishly, scratching the nape of his neck, "but this is the big game!"

"i get it," she said, nudging charlie, "i still don't understand football but i'm at my wits end every time i watch him play."

charlie chuckled, wrapping an arm around silena's waist, before cheering with the rest of the crowd when you stepped up for the shootout.

you were the last one to go and even that alone is a lot of pressure, but you were the tiebreaker for this shootout. the score was still 1-1. nobody has scored since clarisse, both goalies were brick walls and luke's heart was hammering in his chest.

"come on, five star," he whispered, biting his knuckles, "light work baby."

you took a deep breath and dribbled the ball. you were electric out there. you were strategic and quick on your toes. luke was mesmerized watching you play. he'd seen your tapes before, in preparation for this game just so he wasn't completely clueless walking into the championship game, but watching it in real time was something else.

you swerved around the goalie and hit the ball. luke held his breath. goal.

"let's fucking go!" you screamed, falling to your knees on the field as your teammates rushed to engulf you in a hug.

the screams from the unc fans were defeaning. luke was grinning from ear to ear as the boys cheered around him. chris wrapped an arm around his shoulders, shaking him relentlessly. luke couldn't contain his excitement, but he knew that he should let you have this moment with your team. he'll celebrate with you in a bit, for now, you needed to soak in this feeling. back-to-back national champion.

as the adrenaline from the win began to subside, luke and chris, with the help of mr. d, made their way to the field. chris wandered off to find clarisse and luke was standing on the sidelines as mr. d talked to your coach. he watched as you did your post-game interview. you were glowing and it took all his willpower to not run up to you and kiss you on national television.

when you shook the reporter's hand in goodbye, luke began walking over to you, only to stop in his tracks when a boy approached you. luke blinked, tilting his head as he watched the situation unfold.

the guy was... okay-looking. he was definitely an athlete too, based on his build and height. luke's assumptions were proven correct when he got close enough to see his unc basketball hoodie. the boy's eyes fucking twinkled while he spoke to you, a charming smile adorning his face that luke wanted to punch off his prince charming facade.

he watched as you took a step back from the boy, awkwardly gesturing somewhere in the stands. luke felt smug hearing you say, "well, i have a boyfriend and he's over there actually so i should go find him."

but the guy was not letting up. luke watched as the guy rolled his eyes, obviously unphased by your revelation. luke clenched his jaw, keeping his composure.

luke marched over to you and wrapped an arm around your waist to turn you around. he roughly connected his lips with yours, smirking inside when you moaned at the contact. your arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him deeper. his hands traveled up your spine, pushing you flush against his body. when the two of you pulled away, your eyes remained closed, a giddy smile on your face as you breathed out, "hell of a congratulations, castellan."

luke laughed, placing a quick kiss to your lips before turning to address the boy, "sorry, was i interrupting something?"

you had to cover your mouth to muffle the snort that came out of you. luke was staring at the boy intensely, lips in a tight line, as his hand squeezed the skin of your hip in possessiveness. the boy faltered, taking a step back in defeat. luke continued to shoot daggers at him, not deterred by the threat, or lack thereof, in front of him. eventually, the boy got the hint and walked away, shaking his head.

luke's cocky smirk was unstoppable as he faced you again, "great job, baby. national champ, again! look at you."

"thank you," you sighed, nuzzling your face into his neck. luke welcomed your public display of affection. "are we gonna talk about what just happened?"

he rolled his eyes, playfully, "nah, not worth it."

"yeah, but it was hot."

"then yes, let's talk about how hot you think i am."

"shut up," you replied, kissing him again. if this was your way of shutting him up, he wasn't going to complain.

How to construct character psychology!

– Introduction

Hello hello! :D I’ve been very slow with my writing lately due to uni work (and some unforeseen health issues), but I’d like to still be able to make content and be interactive in the writing community, so I’m here again to share some advice based on my own experiences! One of my favourite things about writing is writing characters, specifically constructing a character’s psychology. I’d like to preface this post by saying that while I’ve had formal classes in psychology, I’m by no means any sort of expert within the field, and I also don’t believe that every aspect of how a character is written needs to be rooted in realism. However, I do want to share some insights that I got from it, and also because I feel like “character psychology” has this very mystified weight to it that makes it seem a lot bigger and intimidating than it needs to be.

So! My goal is just to share some advice on how to break down a character’s psychology and work from there! If you like what you read and would like to read more, I’ve also written a post about creating “complex” characters, which you can find the link to here! Aaand yes I think that’s about all I have to say beforehand, I hope you enjoy :,)

What do I mean when I say psychology?

Before getting into the nitty-gritty, I’d like to start with the basics, just to make sure people are on the same page when reading this post. When I’m talking about psychology here, I’m specifically referring to a character’s cognition, as in how they process information and act on it/make judgments. I’m not necessarily referring to personality in this case (although personality is an aspect of psychology, but I’m more so referring to personality as a consequence of cognition here, rather than as a collage of traits and behaviour).

Another thing I want to clarify is that exactly how much of human behaviour is nurture vs nature is a hotly debated topic that I’m completely under-qualified to take a stance on, but for the sake of this post; I believe both are equally essential aspects of human behaviour, so just keep that in mind! (I’m looking at any behaviourists in the chat rn). That being said; I’m not really comfortable treating psychology as “nature” (as such rhetorics are often used in gender-essentialist and other bigoted ways of thinking), so my main focus will be nurture, since that’s what is most readily observable!

Determining character motivation

If you’re working with very little or bare minimum characterization, my recommendation is to consider; what motivates a person to act? And by this, I’m not referring to the external quest or goal behind the character, but rather, what’s the core of what motivates your character to act at all? Even in grand, epic adventures of good vs evil, where the external goal is as simple as “putting an end to whatever evil the bad guys are doing”, there needs to be a reason a character is specifically on the side that they’re on. Multiple characters can be on the same side, but they might find themselves on that side for vastly different reasons, even when their exterior goals are the same. From there, you’ll want to consider what informs this motivation in particular.

One technique I love to employ, when still figuring out my character, is to have them make some sort of bizarre decision, a decision I’d initially think to be improbable for this particular character, and then try to list off various justifications or variables that would allow for this character to make this particular decision. There’s a couple of reasons for why I do this.

1) It removes some of the pressure to have a perfectly cohesive, perfectly put together and neatly defined character from the get-go. The drafting process isn’t just for plot and story structure’s sake, it’s also there for you to experiment with characters! Having your characters make story altering decisions that possibly challenge or contradict themselves is a great way to make sure that you’re writing active characters as opposed to more passive ones, and I think the first couple of drafts should really be a playground for you to see just how far you can stretch your characters based on their characterisation.

2) It helps me clarify what is and isn’t important in my character’s decision making. I’m a firm believer that most decisions/actions aren’t inherently in or out of character; it just depends on whether or not the readers/viewers can understand the character’s thought process behind their decision, and this ultimately comes down to how well you, as the writer, conveys the character’s priorities when they make decisions. If you’re established that a character acts based on a code of honour, an exterior source to morality and conduct, then the justifications and reasonings they would use to justify murder would likely be very different than a character who acts based on their own convictions. This is also a great way to show character development; by showing how a character’s decisions gradually change as their cognition change as they develop.

3) It allows me to explore nuance and make note of potential contradictions within the character’s way of thinking—which is often the most interesting aspects of a character’s psychology, at least in what I enjoy to write and read. Most real people don’t have perfectly cohesive morals, and most people can’t always act congruently with their morals either, so allow for your characters to make some bizarre decisions! See how far you can stretch their cognition! These decisions don’t have to be canon to the story, but it’s a good way to actually solidify what line of thinking your character makes when faced with difficult and potentially morally indicative choices.

Work your way backwards!

If you already have the overall traits and behavior of your character pinned down, you can always work your way backwards! As a pantser, this is a very common occurrence for me. I have a character with a clear goal and defined characteristics, but they’re completely uninformed so far, as I usually discover the cause of their motivation and characteristics as I write the story. As such, most of my characters don’t have any sort of backstory established until I’m much further into the process, as I discover it as I go along. So here’s some things I look out for in my character writing when creating a backstory after I’ve already established a character.

1) What are some things the character is often drawn towards? Humans are typically very habitual, a lot of us enjoy some sense of familiarity (to varying degrees depending on the person), and taking note of what your character tends to gravitate towards can be a great stepping stone to fleshing out backstory. An example could be a somewhat cold, stoic character who’s incredibly picky with their relationships due to trust issues (pretty common characterization) has a tendency to let their guard down more when around elderly people. Why is that? Maybe they were raised by very old parents, or even grandparents. Maybe it’s a cultural thing to treat elderly with more respect. Maybe it’s a religious thing. Maybe it’s because elderly people have treated them with more kindness in the past, etc. Note that this can be flipped too! Maybe this character feels uneasy around people closer to their own age, or even people who are younger than them.

2) How does your character socialize? The way a character approached social settings can often be very indicative of how they were raised, as that tends to affect how people form attachments (according to attachment theory in psychoanalysis, at least). Are they very sociable? If so, why? Is it because they’re accustomed to being around a lot of people? Maybe they had a very large family, or maybe they had a family that took part in a very active social sphere. Maybe this character just comes off as sociable because they understand the value of social connections. Why’s that? Maybe their family have a political influence, or maybe they have a business they want to sell, etc. Or maybe it’s the complete opposite; maybe this character grew up with little to no family at all, and that’s why they want to make friends and connections. If so, then maybe that affects how they make decisions, leaving them incredibly loyal and somewhat co-dependent. Even the smallest character traits and behaviours can be expanded upon to inform you of how that character was possibly raised, it’s really just about digging into said behaviour!

3) How receptive are they to new experiences or other people’s perspective? This is also somewhat linked to attachment theory, but it doesn’t have to be approached that way! The reason I bring this point up is because I find that a character’s receptiveness is often a good way to gauge their relationship with their parent. For example, a character with very strict, traditionalist parents might adopt that outlook on life because it offers them a sense of stability and security. They weren’t raised to be adaptable or to adjust themselves to new experiences, and thus have a difficult time accepting things outside of their established paradigm. This would suggest that this character likely didn’t rebel much to their parents’ outlooks on things (or if they tried, they failed), since they adopted said outlook for themselves. Another way to write this character (with the same premise) is to have them react in the opposite way; maybe they are super open and receptive because the rigidness of their parents prevented them from ever experiencing anything. Maybe the status quo bored them, or maybe they see their parents as narrow minded. This characterisation suggests that there’s possibly more tension (not necessarily in a negative way) between the character and their parents.

Interplay between morals & behaviour

A character’s morals and behaviour don’t always have to align. Like I mentioned in an earlier point, humans hold a lot of contradictions, and how people cope with those contradictions can vary. However, how do you determine if a contradiction is purposeful rather than a case of out-of-character writing?

Let’s say you have a character who views all animals as sacred, and this is something they were raised with. Suddenly, this character is thrust into a situation in a different world/kingdom/region/etc. where eating animal meat is the only viable food option to survive. They decide to do it, despite their morals directly conflicting with this behaviour.

One way this character might justify this is by thinking “well, my intentions matter most, and my intention was never to hurt animals, so while I feel bad for killing an animal for food, my intentions of doing so respectfully makes this action more acceptable to me.”

But another character in the exact same situation might not be satisfied with such logic. Maybe they see intentions as irrelevant, and only care about the consequences of their actions. If it’s been established beforehand that a character is consequentialist, then this action, paired with the justification above, would feel incredibly out of character, because the logic behind the justification is not intuitive to the reader.

Whether a contradiction feels purposeful or out-of-character ultimately boils down to what information and how much of it you’ve given to the readers, so that they have the information necessary to break down the interplay between the character’s morals and behaviour.

Using other tools (cognitive functions, socionics, enneagram, etc.)

As I’ve mentioned before on this blog, I’m very interested in various types of typology (mbti probably being the most popular and well known one), and while I consider all forms of typology to fall under pseudo psychology, I often use these tools to help me better understand my own characters better! I personally gravitate towards cognitive functions (which is not the same system as mbti, even though it uses the same letter system) as they help me put into words my character’s cognition, and enneagram, which describes behaviour and motivations that arise from a person’s upbringing and coping mechanisms. There’s other things you can take into consideration as well, like socionics, temperaments, attitudinal psyche, etc!

I’m not suggesting you use these as replacements for developing characters, but they can be great supplements when trying to dig deeper into your character’s psychology! I’d also argue that you get more out of putting these systems into use if you learn about typology and analyse your characters yourself instead of taking a test for them, but I’m also very biased in this regard, since I enjoy analysing my characters myself :,) And there are times where I’ll take a few tests to help solidify my breakdown if I’m having a difficult time labelling my character correctly. Honestly, just have fun with it!!

The headboard is snapped in half and half of the bed was on the floor.

Zoro twitched his eye at you and grabbed your hips to thrust up into making you cry out again.

“Y-you—-Ass—-ah!”

“Shut up we’ll —-fuck—-sleep on the floor if we have to.”

Luffy

Does not notice and does not care

For some reason when Luffy has sex with you from behind he gets more feral than usual. His senses are dull to anything exact your jiggly ass and the way you clench around him

Tonight he actually wanted to try using his 2nd Gear on you in that position, you were scared he may accidentally hurt you but he reassured you he wouldn’t even if he tried

Well he kept his word but that didn’t mean the bed was safe from being hurt

“Lu!! Luffy!”

The bed wasn’t in great condition anyways, once you both started having sex the bed started to get more and more worn so you asked Franky to make you guys a steel bed frame instead of wood.

“You feel so good! Need..more!”

Luffy would subconsciously smack your ass as his other hot hand held your neck down. His body heat was so hot and his thrust became so erratic you felt the bed shake with you

“Wait! Luffy the be—-!!”

The entire bed fell and the steel bed frame actually manages to fall into the floor, slightly peaking out above the kitchen ceiling

“Woah…heh…my bad!”

He says he is “sorry” but he doesn’t stop. He wanted to finish and that’s what he did until Usopp busted in with his eyes closed telling you both that Sanji is furious about his kitchen.

Ethan entered the frat party with one goal and one goal only, to make sure his friends were okay. He only knew this party was happening because he was patrolling tonight and saw it and plus Chad had texted him to join you guys. You guys being Chad, Mindy, Anika, Tara, and you.

Ethan said he had Econ and couldn’t make it, which was a lie he constantly told. He really needed to come up with a new one.

Ethan was worried for his friends safety because the infamous Ghostface killer was back. I mean who would throw a party in a time like this? Let alone actually go to one. But he didn’t blame you guys, you were all stressed and scared. He was just glad it was a Halloween party so he could blend in easier since he still had his suit on.

He pushed past sweaty drunk teenagers and found his way to the living room where he found Mindy and Anika on the couch. Two down three more to go, Tara, Chad, and you. He wondered toward the kitchen and found Tara drinking, he’d definitely need to check in on her later. And he found Chad near the stairs, but the only person he couldn’t find was you.

Where were you? Ethans searched the party like twelve times and he couldn’t see you. It would probably help if he knew what you were dressed as. Just as he turned around to start at the front of the house again he bumped into somebody, “Oh, I’m so sorry-” he paused when he saw you. You were wearing a Spider-Man costume without the mask and your hair was slightly messy. You looked like you’d been drinking.

“Heyyy, we’re matching!” You stumbled forward and Ethan quickly caught you. “Yeah, I guess we are,” he chuckled. You were matching and it was quite adorable to Ethan but his main concern was getting you home safely. “Yours looks a lot better than- than mine though. Where’d you get yours? I just got mine off of Amazon,” you rambled as you played with the hem of Ethan’s mask. He gulped and gently took your hand away, now holding it.

“I just got it from.. from a friend. I’m borrowing it,” he lied. “Oh, cool. Do you want a drink? I can get you a drink?” Ethan quickly shook his head at your ask, “I’m alright, thank you though. I think you should find your friends and go home.” Someone bumped into you so the arm that Ethan had wrapped around your waist pulled you closer to him while his other hand was still holding yours. You kinda looked like a couple.

You shook your head, “I don’t know where the-they are. They’re probably partyinngg!” You exclaimed with a laugh. “Hey, who are you by the way?” Ethan was taken back by your question but he realized that you thought he was a complete stranger. You didn’t know he was Ethan Landry, you didn’t even know he was the real Spider-Man. You just thought it was a costume.

You removed the hand that was holding Ethan’s, much to his dismay, and you put it to his face. You examined him through the mask he was wearing and turned his head to the left and then to the right. “What are you doing?” Ethan asked confused. “You’re the real Spider-Man aren’t you? That’s why your costume looks so good! You’re him-!” Ethan quickly put a hand over your mouth and took your hand, “Lets go outside.”

You followed him outside the house party and stumbled down the steps. “So are you the real one? Or not?” He helped you down the last step so you wouldn’t eat shit on the concrete and led you to the side of the house. “This is getting creepy man-” Ethan interrupted you by ripping the mask off of his face. Your mouth dropped open, “Ethan? When did you get here?” He looked around to make sure nobody was near and got closer to you. He held your shoulders and got close to your face. “Ethan? What’s-”

“Okay, I need you to listen to me and you cannot tell anyone, okay?” You nodded at him and he continued, “Okay, I’m Spider-Man,” he said slowly hoping you could comprehend what he was telling you. Ethan could practically see the gears in your head turning and he saw your confused expression turn into a smile, then a laugh. “You-you’re Spider-Man? How much did you drink Ethan?” You asked through laughs as you poked his cheek.

“I didn’t drink anything-” he said swatting your hand away, “I’m telling the truth and I’m serious you can’t tell anyone.” You laughed again, “Okay, whatever Ethan. You have my word,” you said humorously. It was clear you didn’t believe him and he didn’t blame you. This was probably the worst possible time to tell you. He’s not even sure why he was telling you. Ethan sighed as he put his arm around you again to hold you up, “Okay, lets get you home.”

You nodded and let him walk you back to your dorm. It was chilly and your thin costume didn’t help. Ethan noticed your shiver and held you closer to him, “We’re almost there, don’t worry.” You responded with an inaudible noise and put your head against his shoulder.

When you guys made it there he grabbed the key from your shaky hands and went inside. He walked you to your bedroom and you flopped on the bed. Ethan put his mask on your dresser and went over to you. “Tired?” He asked and you nodded. He smiled softly and took off your shoes before pulling the covers over you and tucking you in. He took a moment to look at you, your hair was still slightly in your face but you looked peaceful.

“Hey Ethan?”

“Hm?”

“I believe you, about you being Spider-Man.”

He chuckled, “You wont remember this tomorrow.”

You ignored him and kept talking, “It makes sense because you’re always disappearing. And it makes sense because one time I saw the Spider-Man suit in your closet but I assumed it was for Halloween even though it was like April,” you giggled and he smiled at you.

“Hey Ethan?”

“Hm?”

“Why’d you tell me you were Spider-Man?”

He thought about it for a moment, “I don’t know I guess I didn’t want you to think you were being kidnapped by a Spider-Man wannabe.” You giggled and shook your head, “Is that the only reason?” He stayed silent and you nodded in understanding. You wouldn’t tell him but you were hoping he told you because he trusted you and because he wanted to be more than friends but maybe that was a lot to ask.

“Can you stay with me until I fall asleep?” He looked at you hesitantly and you scooted away from the edge of the bed. “Please, Eth?” You patted the spot next to you and he sat down. You two stayed silent for a moment before you put your hand on his cheek, “You’re really pretty, you know th-that?” You hiccuped and he smiled bashfully. “You’re drunk.”

“Nuh-uh”

“Uh-huh”

You smiled and closed your eyes, “Ya know, I’ll sleep a lot better knowing New Yorks friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is Ethan Landry.” He laughed and watched as your smile faded to a relaxed expression. And soon after he heard your small snores. He moved the hair from your face and stood up. He wasn’t sure what you meant by that exactly and he knew you probably wouldn’t remember this tomorrow, but he was grateful for the moment anyway.

He wouldn’t let it get to his head though. He’s liked you for a long time now but he wasn’t ready to confess yet. Ethan looked at you one more time before grabbing his mask and putting it on. He climbed out your window and swung away.

Who was he kidding, if you actually remembered this tomorrow he would definitely confess his love to you.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about current lore, so it’s time to ramble my thoughts/theories/analysis whatever you wanna call it >:D

(long post get ready)

Alright, let’s talk about q!Cellbit… there is a lot happening with him rn. It’s been so crazy keeping up with all the enigmas lately

(these next thoughts about the character will all be centered on the idea that this is indeed him doing the worker murders, and he’s not being framed.)

His emotional state is unrestrained, and returning to past ways of violent behavior from the days of war and prison. he’s not repressing his feelings anymore, no more holding back. I could go on about these emotions and what they mean for him, but instead I’m gonna talk about the strategic reason I think q!Cellbit would want to kill the workers to begin with. I strongly believe that even if he’s in madness, no way is he mindless. his intelligence is sharp like the point of a dagger, and aimed straight at the federation. this is a plot of revenge on the “little bear” after all. “his toys will keep falling until he pays for everything.”

This is a guy that’s always careful about not leaving traces in all the investigative work he does, but here q!Cellbit is choosing to leave the bodies around the main spawn area where everyone can see, complete with encrypted messages next to them meant for Cucurucho to read (intercepted by q!Bagi) that so obviously leads right back to him. an intentional move, he stated in one of the messages that it’s a show and he wants people to watch- wants Cucurucho to watch, and hopes for the hunt to continue. though I think by being so obvious, he ultimately intends to get caught. ofc it’s not turning out the way he wants because q!Bagi is getting there first, but he is still set on a self-destructive path that I can only see ending up with him going down in a fight… but only after damaging the federation to a degree they can hopefully not recover from. which we know is his goal, he said as much in his last conversation with q!Bad.

Back then, q!Cellbit talked about how he realized that since q!Bad kidnapped Ron, it caused the federation to get into a lot of problems, he saw how going after the workers could cause some big damage. in the federation’s reports it’s shown how they had to put vital resources that would’ve gone to finding the eggs & pacifying the chaotic islanders into their own internal affairs, because all the workers were freaking out over the kidnapping. it was bad enough to make them need to hire psychological professionals to give therapy, send out people to search for Ron, and assign guards to the A-ranks so they could move safely around the island.

All the employees were already in constant fear over the past several weeks that they’d be the next one to disappear… and now here comes q!Cellbit turning the fears into a living nightmare.

Fast forward to today with workers being targeted left and right. as for why it’s only B-ranks? maybe because the A-ranks are too hard to catch alone right now (Bad also had trouble) but B’s are still a high level and can cause some major chaos as seen by Ron. and they just keep on dropping.

q!Cellbit’s building on this snowball of terror that q!Bad set off, all to crash into the federation and send it into even more disarray. it’s working. which gets even more chaotic when you factor in how he’s not even the only one doing something like this right now. q!Etoiles is unintentionally adding to it by breaking into federation facilities on behalf of the resistance and mercilessly taking out more workers. plus how the federation doesn’t even know q!Quackity has A-rank Fred locked in a jail. (or maybe the higher-ups know. tbh I still don’t know how qQ did this and still think the situation is sus. I have the theory that the federation let it happen as fred’s punishment for getting close to an islander)

Agent 18 told q!Foolish that all the employees are scared out of their minds right now with the danger of kidnapping + getting assassinated by the killer. they are staying shut inside the office cubicles and are too afraid to go outside alone. Agent 18 literally stepped out for 5 minutes, heard a small noise and it was enough to send them running back to hide

it’s clear that the federation workforce is now in shambles, and honestly I wonder how many might be getting disillusioned with the federation’s ability to protect them…. because yeah they are very weak right now. which is why I believe the federation has been introducing all this new tech to cut the losses: Minimes to give the workers an army as protection (failed because it was stolen by the islanders) and Cucuruchito placed at spawn, one of the main islander meeting points, and where it just so happens the worker murders are

Cucurchito is intended to passively gather intel for the federation, which I think they’re in dire need of because I am seriously doubting in the federation’s ability to know anything about what’s happening in these current events. they are in a rough state, just as confused as we are about where the eggs disappeared to, the islanders are all going crazy. they don’t know what the dark matter is and also somehow lost the president in the nether, there’s an obvious egg who’s supposed to be dead running around which they aren’t doing anything about. they got distracted from Ron’s case, don’t know Fred is missing, who the culprits behind both that and who is doing the worker murders are. employee morale is below negative.

but everything is a-okay because they have this little creature now!!! he’s the perfect solution :3

I love the lore and as always, hope for future events to be unexpected and surprise me!! it’s really nice to have theories confirmed, though I also enjoy getting proven wrong ^^ excited to see what happens next, it be chaos on these quesadilla island streets

what do you think kurapika is like before you start dating?

A/N: I’m taking Kurapika requests rn!!

Whenever Kurapika and you get together, he becomes a lot softer, easier to be around for both you and others.

So before… well…

Kurapika isn’t a social person unless he needs to be to obtain the scarlet eyes or information on the phantom troupe. He doesn’t like large crowds, or being around loud people. So when he was forced into these situations before you were there to help him through it, he’d struggle.

He had a pretty short temper, and because you weren’t around to help soothe him and keep him on his best behavior, he tended to lash out when stressed or angry.

He’s distant, moody, argumentative if need be. Not someone you’d want to be around for long periods of time. Kurapika was also a very hate filled man. He let his hate take over his heart so much that it took him a while to realize that he loved you.

With you, Kurapika has become a much more agreeable person, but mostly just for you. He loves you dearly, and would do anything to keep you safe from harm. He’s kind, in a way that not many people get to see. You see him when he’s weak, vulnerable. And he appreciates that he can be something other than the hate filled man others see him as.

If you want to know how he was specifically with YOU before you two start dating, the answer is… shy and distant! It takes him a bit to realize his feelings for you, and when he does he becomes distant. He doesn’t want to be in love, it makes completing his goals harder.

But when he learns that he physically can’t function without you, he shyly begins courting you. He realizes that if he wants you, he’ll need to work on his temper.

Kurapika is a gift giver. He buys you jewelry, stuffed animals, little trinkets that relate to your interests. He may not be the most educated in pop culture, so he learns the most he can about the things you like so he can give you the perfect gifts!

This man is TOUCH STARVED. He may not realize it at first, but he’ll be subconsciously making physical contact with you as much as possible. Whether this be putting a hand on your shoulder while talking, taking your hand while walking across a busy street, or cupping your cheek when you’re upset, he’s thinking up an excuse to touch you!

Now, if you touch him, he’s melting. He loves when you run your fingers through his hair, gently squeeze his hand while asking if he’s alright, bumping your hip against his playfully. Any little touch is making him blush.

He’s shy, so I hope you’re ready for the confession to take a whiiilleeee. Kurapika may not seem like it, but he’s pretty insecure, especially since he hasn’t been taking the best care of himself the past few months. His hair is longer, he’s lost weight, and there are bags under his pretty brown eyes. Even when you smile and tell him how handsome he looks in his new work uniform, he still struggles to believe it.

He takes courting you VERY seriously. He’ll announce to you one day that he wants to court you, and you’ll tilt you head. “Are you asking me out? Because y-“

“No, no I’m courting you. Please, let me show you how much I care for you before you reject me.”

“But Pika, I wanna-“

He just hugs you, beginning to tear up. “I know I’m not the best option in the world, and I’m always busy, but I truly do love you. If you give me a chance, I promise-“

You pull away before cupping his cheeks and kissing him. When you lean back, you can see his eyes are a pretty shade of scarlet, showing you just how much he truly did love you.

“Pika, will you be my boyfriend, you big goof?”

And all he can do is nod, tears in his eyes.

perhaps this is me being shallow and i’m not trying to insinuate that every driver on the grid has to be gunning for a wdc but i don’t understand why anyone would turn down a rb contract at this stage? i mean if the rumours about alex refusing the seat are true i just… idk i know he’s been personally victimised by helmut marko before and been through the rb ringer but he’s a much better much more skilled and experienced driver right now and if it were me i’d personally want to test my skills against max. rb is the most coveted seat right now, it’s an opportunity to get regular podiums and even wins if max messes up or you’re simply faster. i don’t enjoy this “running from a fight” mentality (not saying that’s what alex is doing rn cause ofc there are other things at play) and it is in fact one of the reasons ****** sorta fell out of my favour. anyway i hope this makes sense haha not a native speaker, and not trying to be rude i just… don’t get it. i had similar thoughts about lando before, when horner said they’d talk to lando and then he’d only use that as leverage in his mclaren contracts. but baffling to me to come all the way to f1 after dedicating your life to it and then just going “nah” when you have the chance to be in the best car cause the other might be better than you. i mean when max got to rb daniel was the guy who had just pulverised 4-time wdc vettel, and you didn’t see him hesitte to jump in the car mid-season

when you sign a redbull contract now, you know you're effectively going to play second driver until 2028. yes Alex is a more complete driver now and would prob fare much better vs Max now, but he's also been through the RBR ringer like you said. going back would mean adjusting to an entirely new car while Max has only driven redbulls, AND getting scrutinised 2x because of his prev performance. anything below p2 is considered underperforming in the best car, and that's a lot of pressure and ofc your ego having to handle being "Max's bitch." pulling a rosberg against a generational talent is not easy. at Williams alex is personally more involved and treated as team leader and the car has improved from being the worst back marker to a solid midfielder, with Alex outdriving it.

also. job security in f1 is notoriously limited with 20 seats and rookies from f2 vying to get in. let's say alex goes to RBR. he either has to hope they let him drive until 2028 and finally get a shot at the championship (if 2026 regulations don't turn it into a junk box) and no second driver is getting a 5 year contract. Valtteri went from the best car to a backmark/midfielder. He's not even in question when silly season rolls around for the Ferraris and Bulls, despite being a solid second driver who picked off wins when Lewis dnf'd. they might scout him for Audi because they need an experienced driver for development. your career moving from the best car can only go Down. Alex already had a year off from f1 as a reserve driver when RB booted him, whatever choices he makes -- it'll be with a long term goal in mind.

Alex has said recently that if the Williams doesn't improve, he will look at other options -- as he should! He's being scouted by multiple teams. The improvements of the Aston Martin and even Mclaren have shown absolute backmarkers can become podium contending cars within a season! you'd prefer to succeed with a team that knows you and will accommodate to you than a top team where you're expected to play someone else's defense. Which brings me to lando. Lando is in the curious case Max was in 2017/18, where all the top teams were courting him. He had offers from Ferrari and Merc, while nobody knew if the RB Honda deal would work, and the RB was DNFing every other race. redbull convinced max to stay, that they'll develop the car around him and they will become a top team. I'm sure mclaren is doing the same to lando, that's the only team he's driven for and he's getting paid Very Well, the team principal is literally invested in his business, and they started this season around p19/p20, and finished it on podium. the results are there, why would he move to rbr to pick off max's crumbs?

do you know who absolutely did run from a fight? daniel. bc RB had no outright driver hierarchy in 2018, they literally stated they wanted to win a championship with daniel -- but max was too much of a rising star and daniel dipped, leaving the only team his career had anything notable from.

2k3 Shredder and why he fucking terrifies me 💀

I’m having some intense ass 2k3 tmnt brain rot rn, and I need to talk about this Shredder. This bitch is horrifying. Note that I am only about half way through s3, and this is my first time ever watching the show in full, so there is a lot I haven’t seen yet. All of my knowledge and opinions are based off of the first 3 seasons.

Onto the why!

First of all, this mf has been an intergalactic war criminal for hundreds of years. Based on all the shit we see going on across this universe, you gotta have done something pretty damn horrific to become a war criminal. Like this lil’ freak can easily be considered a terrorist. Even if we disregard that, he’s still the leader of a gang that borders on being a cult.

He has killed so many people? Using people as a broader term for any intelligent, sentient life forms- so humans, Utrom, etc. We don’t have a kill count or anything, but he’s probably directly killed over 100, and indirectly killed thousands more. Thousands may seem like an unrealistically high estimate, but when you really think about it, it’s not. Saying he’s indirectly responsible for 1000 deaths is a generous underestimation. Think about it, all the people his Foot Clan goons have killed, all the gang wars and violence he has incited, all the buildings he had destroyed, livelihoods of innocent people he completely demolished, and everyone who died for him. Not to mention how any and every person who died in the Triceraton/Federation invasion of earth only died because of a millennia long chain reaction resulting from this evil little flesh sack stranding the Utrom on Earth.

Even without all the actual deaths he caused, the things he is shown to be willing to do to others are nightmare fuel. He has no morals whatsoever, no compassion for any living thing other than himself; there is no line he is not willing to cross. He brutally killed Hamato Yoshi, he was willing to leave the turtles & co. locked in a fridge, in a burning building, with a gas leak, and a bomb ready to go off. He inflicts life altering injuries on his “employees” to punish them for not accomplishing his impossible goals. He regularly threatens death on those he views as lesser, and is perfectly content to go through with it.

A perfect example of his sadism is Baxter Stockman. Stockman was just your average corrupt, greedy tech CEO. Shreddy-boy saw the chance to exploit that, recruiting Stockman to be his robotics guy. Every time Stockman failed to do what Shredder demanded of him, he lost a part of his body. He was dismembered and tortured and taken apart like a fucking LEGO set. I mean, he got so mutilated he was literally nothing but a brain, a spinal chord, and an eyeball in a tank. Shredder destroyed every part of Stockman that wasn’t useful to him, which was everything but a genius brain. With all of his body gone, Stockman didn’t have the choice to leave the Foot, he physically couldn’t leave the Foot because he would die. If he ever dared to stop serving the Shredder, he would inevitably die, whether the Shredder ordered it or not.

Which segues into my next point, his manipulation. The way this ugly ass quishy tissue blob manipulates everyone around him is sickening. The way he treats Karai, someone who sees him as her father, is nothing other than abusive. He lies so easily. He almost convinced Leonardo to join him by pretending to be some benevolent ninjutsu master. He views every life other than his own as expendable, and he sees himself as a being above death, a god above God.

Which brings me to my final point. THIS MF JUST WILL NOT DIE. Every single time the turtles seem to have defeated him, every time it seems like he’s finally dead, THIS BITCH JUST COMES BACK. The mental anguish and paranoia that would cause anybody once it happens over and over again is enough to land you in a psych ward for eternity. And it seems like every time he returns he returns more powerful, more evil, and less human than ever before.

So yeah. 2k3 Shredder fucking petrifies me and I am not at all ashamed to admit that. It’s a pretty reasonable fear imo.

The problem with Thrawn

The thing is, for Thrawn to have good character development he needs to realise three things:

1. What he’s doing is wrong. And it will ultimately fail to bring ‘security to the galaxy’ because the Star Wars universe doesn’t work like that. He needs to side with the New Republic and warn them of the threat of the Grysks. If the New Republic isn’t evil he doesn’t have to fear brining the Ascendancy into contact with them. The two forces could work together.

2. He is a person with emotions who is capable of friendship. Thrawn isn’t cruel. Or, as least, he never seemed that way. I always felt weird about him trying so hard to kill the ghost crew and his involvement in torturing Hera. I don’t think Zhan’s Thrawn would do that… Zhan’s Thrawn would be curious about these people and want to help them and see if their goals could align somehow (Nightswan, for example). Obviously, Palpatine and the risk of ‘treason’ made this difficult, but I think it’s an issue not having access to his inner thoughts about the rebels.

3. He is not an asset. He has people he wants to protect and a life that matters more than just as a sacrifice or tool for his people - the people who exiled him. Who is Thrawn protecting the galaxy for? His friends back at the Ascendancy, right? He needs to be more selfish about that! His character feels so hollow. This should be a huge source of inner conflict except even Zhan was tempted by and has gone down the route of making Thrawn an emotionless machine (in the second trilogy especially, and from what I’ve heard in the third as well). “Good day lieutenant Vanto” says it all.

Ascendancy trilogy Thrawn is the best Thrawn we’ve seen. He felt like a person. I could sympathise with him in those books, but I can’t as much or at all in other depictions of Thrawn where he is just so much like a machine.

I need Thrawn to define his ‘greater good’. Then I need that to be completely broken down and for his character to be built back up again. That’s called a character arc and Thrawn as a static character, yes, it’s just like Sherlock Homes! But Thrawn is not Sherlock Holmes. He’s space Sherlock Holmes and they are different. Holmes doesn’t have a goal in the same way Thrawn does and not exploring that goal in Thrawn is a disservice to his character.

I hope at least some of this makes sense. I’m trying to write a Thrawn who faces difficult choices that allow him to actually grow as a person in my fic but first drafts are chaos oh my god.

Maybe this is cheeky but I wouldn’t find it cheeky if anyone else put a link to their fic after a character analysis of a character they were exploring in said fic so whatever! Please do this by the way I want to read people’s versions of Star Wars. It’s such a mess rn that it’s a gold mine for fanfic.

I’m working on a fic rn and it takes place right after the barrier being taken down, in my mind because thousands of student enroll at aurodon prep in a matter of months they’re forced to do co ed dorms and have as many as 4 people in one dorm. What do you think abt this.

Hi, so I thought I'd made a post about this but apparently I can't see it so here goes:

After the barrier comes down, Ben commissions a whole new school just for kids from the Isle. They put up temporary housing over the summer and then term starts the next year. He repurposes an old college building into a new school just for VKs after learning about their lack of formal schooling and need for extra support.

Students are sorted not by grade or age but tested and taught based on their ability level, as some of the older Isle kids cannot even read. There are extra support lessons for those who are very far behind where they should be.

There is also a food programme put into place, designed to bring all of the VKs up to a healthy weight and also to adjust their stomachs to the richer Auradonian food.

Living conditions can be quite cramped, with dorms of as many as 8 of the younger kids and then up to four for the older ones, though they aim for four/two as the goal. but the rooms are large enough to accommodate that, they are furnished to a high standard and they're clean, warm and dry. Each dorm has its own bathroom and the older kids aren't co-ed but I couldn't say for the younger ones. Siblings are usually placed together if they're of similar ages, or at least close by if they are not.

the curriculum is designed for Isle kids and though attendance isn't mandatory, completion does give points for getting into colleges. Ben would also probably ask some of the older VKs who have technically 'aged out' of the system (the core four/uma/anyone in that year and above) to attend as well, to try and influence the younger VKs who look up to them to attend the school.

so that's where i sit with that, that's my own personal sort of storyline as i believe they wouldn't want to clog up auradon prep (famously a school for royals and others of note) with all the kids from the Isle as there will, as you noted, be thousands of them.

(my unofficial, official count from my population post being: at the time the barrier comes down there are approximately 2,700 children under the age of five, 2,850 children of elementary school level (5-10), 1,350 children of middle school level (11-13), 1,600 children of high school age (14-18) and 1,300 adults who are over the age of 18 but still fall into the ‘villain kid’ category because they were born on the isle of the lost.)

also noting this does not take into account anything we currently know about rise of red.
