Bruce and Dick undercover as civilians at a fancy gala and they escape to snoop in their target's office.

they hear someone coming so they hide in a very tiny closet and are pressed close together waiting for the coast to clear. very close.

Dick is extremely sleep deprived from a brutal weak. his back is aching from staying still in this cramped environment. the motherfucker outside is talking to someone and seems in no hurry to leave. maybe if Dick were on better shape, he would resist the warmth emanating from Bruce. maybe he wouldn't rest his head on his shoulder, relax against his chest.

Bruce takes his weight without complaint, arm around his waist.

Bruce smells good. there's a familiar cologne on his neck. it's been so long since Dick had physical contact like this, and he's so out of it that his body reacts in the most embarrassing way. Dick tries to keep his half hard cock away from Bruce, but it's a war of attrition.

"Sorry," Dick whispers into his ear, barely making a sound. Bruce just shakes his head, as if to say *there's nothing to apologize for*. these things happen—have happened before, when adrenaline is high, when sparring and wrestling. it doesn't mean anything.

Bruce's lips find his ear. "Our cover, if we get caught."

they'll pretend they snuck into the office, and then the closet, to make out like teenagers. Dick nods. Bruce tips his chin up and peers down at Dick in the dark, then pinches both of his cheeks, not hard. to make the skin pink. it's not necessary, but it makes a good excuse. Dick reaches up and does the same to Bruce's high cheekbones. Bruce thumbs Dick's lip and he nearly gasps aloud.

then Bruce licks his own thumb, and rubs the saliva across Dick's mouth.

it's just unfair. this attention to detail is entirely unnecessary to their cover. Dick throbs against Bruce's hip.

he closes the distance between them and bites Bruce's lower lip. it's just for *realism*. and then they really *are* making out like teenagers, slow and quiet in the stuffy closet. they barely move to keep from being discovered, and it heightens every sensation, makes them drunk on spit and breath.

when they can finally escape the closet, their hair is sticking up, their lips swollen, the lines of their suit pants ruined. they won't talk about it.

screenshotting this one bc I can acknowledge that I’ve got shipper goggles on and op isn’t about that life which is fair but

I feel like batfam fans misunderstand the term parentification a lot and conflate it with Dick filling a parental role for his siblings, which might be part of the “oldest daughter syndrome” that’s so often pinned on him but that isn’t what parentification actually means

If I say that Dick Grayson was parentified, then that isn’t referring to him taking care of his siblings, it refers to the way Bruce treated him. As someone capable of taking care of his emotional needs and not as the child in need of care in the relationship

Parentification is a term that’s been around for decades, and while having to care for younger siblings might be a part of the definition, it focuses mostly on the role reversal of the parent-child dynamic. I’m not going to get into the psychology of it but being parentified has very little to do with if he actually acted as a parent for his siblings and everything to do with if he acted as a parent for Bruce

This is honestly why I prefer the term spouseification, which is less ambiguous than the term parentification and I feel accurately describes their “equal” relationship and the type of emotional abuse that Dick went through

Also from what I’ve read, Dick doesn’t act as a parental figure for any of his siblings except for Damian. While he might have given extra emotional support to Tim due to Bruce being Bruce, Dick still fits solidly into an older brother role. I’m not even going to touch on Dick’s relationship with Jason which is too weak to even be considered fraternal never mind parental
