Adam (2019) it's about a cis boy who's mistaken for a trans boy and rolls with it. Big cast of trans characters including a tgirl played by a tgirl who everyone wants to fuck. Directed by a trans dude. Highly legit. If you're still hung up on pre release speculation based on the novel then you're the most annoying person alive.

Assassination Nation (2018) The first half is Euphoria and the second half is The Purge. ONE OF THE BEST TGIRL MOVIES OF ALL TIME.

Bit (2019) Lesbian girl power vampire movie where the main character is a tgirl played by a tgirl. It's solid. I find it frustrating that they hint at her being trans without explicitly acknowledging it (and she's passing as fuck, so it's easy to not notice), but I know that's what some of y'all want.

Boy Meets Girl (2014) Cis dude for trans girl love story. Pretty normie, but also you see her fully naked (gock out) at the end.

Funeral Parade of Roses (1969) Extremely 60s. Cool as hell.

Lady Daddy (2010) South Korean romcom about a trans girl played by a cis girl who tries unconvincingly to back pass when she finds out she has a kid. Very cute.

Lingua Franca (2019) written directed and starring Isabel Sandoval. An undocumented trans woman immigrant in New York deals with a cis dude partner being a cis dude. Which is also the plot of The Garden Left Behind (2019).

Myra Breckinridge (1970) Raquel Welch is a trans woman and her goal is the destruction of the last vestigial traces of traditional manhood! It's Fight Club! It's Hackers! It's divisive, but it's probably my favorite movie!

So Pretty (2019) Literally the first scripted feature length (non pornographic tho it does have cock) film to feature two trans women played by trans women kissing eachother.

Something Must Break (2014) THE OTHER BEST TGIRL MOVIE OF ALL TIME. Drugs. Crimes. Gock. Slow motion pissing. Slow motion park Fucking. Genuinely the most beautiful sex scene I've seen in any movie. And she makes it to the end still alive and more sure of herself and at peace than ever.

Tangerine (2015) Groundbreaking and also a bunch of the secondary characters are real life pornstars (which I think is neat).

The Garden Left Behind (2019) This and Lingua Franca (2019) really are tgirl twin films, but (like with Antz and A Bug’s Life) the vibes and details make them distinct (I assume tho tbh I’ve never watched Antz).

I ALSO PERSONALLY CREATED MY OWN SUBTITLES FOR IT BECAUSE EVEN THE DVD DIDN’T INCLUDE ANY! WHICH TOOK HOURS TO DO!

The Skin I Live In (2011) A rapist is kidnapped and turned into a girl by a mournful vengeful plastic surgeon. Which was also the plot of Victim (2010). I never really vibe with Pedro Almodóvar movies, but I recognize this is the preeminent forced feminization film.

Gender Troublemakers (1993) Some 90s Toronto trans girls fucking and discoursing. Explicit tgirl on tgirl action. This is the only one on the list that I haven’t actually watched yet. I’m hyped to watch it tho. Seems mindblowingly rad af.

Dick: Wonder Woman! Bear with me. Please. I think Superman was his favorite BEFORE he met Clark. Once he learned how big of a dork he was, the magic was sort of lost, doubly so when Clark became his unofficial stepdad. Diana? She stayed cool. Not to mention that in his Robin days, she often humored whatever hare-brained impulses he’d get. Please picture Batman’s bewildered expression when he finds Dick dangling from the Watchtower light fixture he specifically designed to be impossible for him to reach. Diana just, -shrug- “He said please.” You threw him Diana. You threw that child. She’d probably still throw him if he asked nicely, hell, she’d probably do it even before he has to ask. It’s ‘Boy Wonder’, not ‘Boy Bat’.

Jason: Black Canary. ‘Wonder Woman is Jason’s fav’ believers PLEASE hear me out. I think that Diana is Jason’s favorite in a ‘celebrity crush’ way, but Dinah is Jason’s favorite in a ‘cool aunt’ way. He met her unofficially at the Watchtower, but actually started hanging out with her thanks to Roy. They both like motorcycles and kicking ass, plus Young Justice having Canary as a therapist melds well with my vision of her helping Jason heal. And I think she’s used to yelling at Bruce on Oliver’s behalf, so it’s no big to do it on Jason’s too.

Tim: The Flash! If Dinah is the cool aunt, Barry is the cool uncle. Guy that shows up at the function with all the best snacks. He might eat half of them himself but damn if he didn’t bring them. In all seriousness, Tim saw pretty great merit in knowing a forensics guy that he can basically talk to anytime he’s stumped with a case without having to go through the “sorry to wake you” song and dance. Barry occasionally gets unhinged texts that are in the vein of “hey can you go about ten minutes back in time and tell past me about _____”. They’re usually pretty low stakes but sometimes there’s just a “got stabbed, do-over?” jumpscare sprinkled in. Bruce will never ever get shit from Barry about kid troubles. That man is a saint in Flash’s eyes.

Cass: Captain Marvel. She didn’t like him at all during their first meeting. For a person that’s good at reading body language, I imagine that seeing genuinely childish behavior on a grown man would be giving some crazy mixed signals. Once she learns that his powers are magic in origin rather than being alien or meta, her mind opens up a little more to the possibility that his exterior appearance might not be indicative of his actual identity. Cass guesses his age by their next proper meeting and makes it her business to keep an eye on him, always asking Bruce about him after he returns from League missions. Your honor, that 7’5” brick wall Champion of Magic is actually just Cass’ little buddy. She’s gonna get him some ice cream or something.

Steph: Green Lantern. Hal and Barry are like uncles, except if Barry is the cool one, Hal is the cringe one. Lucky for Hal, being a boyfailure is a good way to amuse Steph. Those two are gonna spend hours arguing with Bruce just for the hell of it, backing each other up on completely incorrect claims (Steph does it because it’s funny, Hal does it because he believes her). He does get bonus points for bringing her cool space snacks whenever he comes back from trips off-world. One of her favorite foods is a sort of hi-chew/gum thing from some other planet in Sector 2418 that doesn’t dissolve or lose its flavor, even after chewing it for days on end.

Damian: Aquaman. He’s a king. Like, an actual king. And he can communicate with fish. Arthur heard about Damian’s temper from the rest of the Leaguers and straight up does not believe it because every time he’s spoken to Damian, it’s been “hello your majesty can you introduce me to an octopus I have a few questions for it”. This one’s short. But I feel it speaks for itself.

Duke: Superman. Clark was NOT told about Signal taking up the day shift in Gotham until he was flying in to compare notes (read: flirt), with Bruce and met Duke when they both went to intercept a carjacking. Clark tries to be responsible like “I feel obligated to let you know that Batman doesn’t take kindly to metas in his city”, only for Duke to point at the big ol bat on his chest. After that, Duke usually intercepts Big Blue’s flight path anytime he comes into Gotham and the two just kind of hang out and shoot the shit while he does his patrol. Duke is also a little bit stoked to be regularly hanging out with The Superman, but even after the awe wears off, he can’t help but still think of Clark as just a cool, friendly guy. He gets someone to share the airspace with, Clark gets a bat he can stay in the sun with, it’s a win/win all around. Congrats Clark, you got one.

The crisp winter air filled the quaint town, the snowflakes dancing gracefully outside your girlfriends charming countryside home.

You couldnt shake the nerving excitement bubbling within you, as this just wasnt any christmas; it was your first time spending the holidays with Caitlin and finally meeting her family. As you stepped out of the car, you were greeted by th warm glow of the Christmas lights the adorned the rooftops, and the sound of joyful laughter coming from inside.

You timidly rung the doorbell, your girlfriend rushed out to meet you, with her eyes sparkling with delight. “Y/N! Youre finally here!” she exclaimed, quickly engulfing you in a tight hug. “Ive been counting down the days until i could introduce you to everyone” she stated.

You both then entered the cozy home, where you were then greeted by Cait’s family, who welcomed you with open arms and a genuine sense of love and want. Amidst the festive decorations and the scent of cinnamon and pine filling the air, you quickly felt a sense of belonging that you had never experienced before.

As the evening unraveled, you found yourself captivated by the Clark family traditions and the love that radiated from every corner of the room. As you stole short but sweet glances at Cait, you could feel your heart swelling with the affection for the girl that had brought continuous joy into your life.

As the holiday festivities continued, you and Cait had found moments of quiet intimacy amidst the bustling chaos, stealing kisses under the mistletoe and sharing whispered promises of your love and devotion for eachother.

On christmas morning, as you exchanged gifts by the twinkling tree, you couldnt contain your excitement as the brunette handed you a small wrapped box in glistening paper. With trembling hands, you slowly opened it to reveal a delicate diamond ring, with your initials engraved onto the band; a promise ring. You turned to Cait, with tears in your eyes. This was her telling you that she wants to spend the rest of her life with you, whether it be right in this moment or later, she would promise to make you hers forever.

As the day turned into night and the fire crackled in the fire place, you knew this christmas would hold great significance for you for years to come, cherishing it in your heart. Being surrounded by the girl you loved more than anything and her family gave you a huge sense of gratitude and contentment.

Curled up by the couch, basking together in the warm of eachothers embrace, you heard her whisper a small “i love you”, as she peppered your face with kisses. You couldnt help trying to contain your giggles, simply replying “thank you for making this the best christmas ever”

The brunette smiled, looking down at you, her eyes sparkling with love as she said, “heres to many more holidays together”.

That was when underneath the twinkling lights of the tree, you both shared a deep and meaningful kiss, her hands immediately found their way to your hips and she forced you closer to her, doing anything to keep you as near to her as possible.

A kiss that sealed your love and marked the beginning of a lifetime of joyous holidays together.

what would u say it takes for a fic to get kon's tone correctly? or like. what things do u feel make the tone Wrong? (if u can put it into words ik this is a very vague question LMAO)

so in essence you are asking me to distill kon as a character. i will attempt to do this, but preemptively be warned i will likely be rambling.

there are a few things about kon that always stand out to me. i draw a lot on sb94 for his overall character, with sb11 and adventure comics to guide his character arc. to me, he is, in no particular order:

incredibly smart

but exceedingly hard on himself,

and prone to self-deprecation.

silly and goofy! a geek-ass loser!!

full of joie de vivre!

deeply, deeply passively suicidal.

quick to anger (mostly when younger)

but even quicker to cool off and apologize if necessary.

too quick, even. very forgiving of anything done to him, no matter how fucked up, if he thinks the person is genuinely sorry.

kind. kind. kind. kind. he wants to believe in everyone.

prone to naivety, because of it. (again, especially when younger.)

ready and willing to destroy himself if it helps someone else even a little bit. a bleeding heart that maybe bleeds too much.

deeply, deeply caring. about everyone. especially the folks nobody else really cares about.

pretty introspective (post-death and resurrection).

passionate. he does not do anything by halves.

haha silly!!! jokester!!! star trek time!!! wahoo!!!

so as you can see, he is a character built on contradiction. he loves life, but he's been suicidal since day one. he's a lot smarter than anyone, including himself, gives him credit for - he might not be the best strategist out there, but his creativity and ability to think on his feet are phenomenal! he's deeply kind to the core and yet worries about who he is, because he can't see himself how anyone else does. i could go on. it's about the contradictions - the kontrast, if you will.

in terms of fic writing, character voice, and tone: imagine a boy in the basement of a fucked up science lab surrounded by the frozen-in-stasis corpses of his twelve would-be brothers, the clones before him that didn't pan out. he is white-knuckling his gloves. he is repeating to himself, but i stay silly :3!! but i stay silly :3!! but i stay silly :3!! but i stay--

this, too, is about the kontrast. denial and humor are his best friends and his favorite coping mechanisms.

to me, i guess a fic gets kon right if it understands he is an unreliable fucking narrator. he's incredibly repressed. he just denies it all and pretends he's fine because he can joke it off. he stays silly!! X3!! but he's a genuinely sweet and thoughtful guy. he does all the farm chores for ma kent without being asked, loves his dog, has nightwing merch (a zine, specifically, from the looks of it) in his room, and physically is incapable of shutting up about star trek. he's a geek. he's silly. he's loving. he's deeply sad. he's a walking talking identity crisis.

also wrt fic writing. i mean i know saying this is a lost cause because anyone bothering to read a long post about kon isn't the kind of person writing fics that don't actually treat him as his own character, but. he is not fucking scared of bruce wayne oh my god. i will forever yell about these pages from sb94 #85 aka what might be my fav issue in the entire run:

he doesn't stand for anyone being unjust, even if it's his bestie's mentor who he respects a lot!! even if he's a little nervous he tells bruce off and demands better from him!!! (granted, i also think this is some of my least favorite bruce writing ever - i don't like him sounding like a kkk manifesto someone hit find and replace on when he talks about metas, and i don't for the life of me understand why so many of his "fans" continue to eat that up and then shit it out in the year 2023, but that's getting off topic.)

ALSO. HE LOVES AND RESPECTS CLARK SO FUCKING MUCH. that's another thing fics get wrong. he does NOT resent clark for "not being around" and he does NOT tolerate anyone talking shit about him!! clark is his favorite guy. he idolizes him!! yes, he's sometimes sad about wanting to be closer to him, but never communicates this (and, again, this is also an editorial mandate). if kon was going to blame anyone for their relationship not being what he wants it to be, IT IS HIMSELF!!!! he does this literally on page in sb94, when he finds out clark has a secret identity and isn't superman all the time. he blames himself for not being someone superman would have wanted to confide in sooner. he is REALLY GOOD at blaming himself for things. he would never in his LIFE blame clark.

in conclusion. please enjoy this incredibly roumd krypto snoozing next to him in lena luthor's house. thank you for your time ♥

hello hello! so far my favorite scene is 100% the one in chapter 2 where tim calls jason to pick him up from the marina and kon goes full snarlbite at jason while tim regrets every choice he's ever made. i had that scene zerodrafted before i'd even finished the beginning of chapter 1 and had way too much fun adding to it as i went. second place might be an upcoming scene in chapter 4 where dick gets another crack at the title of Most Annoying Big Brother Ever (honorific). 😌

some headcanons for buy back the secrets-verse:

bruce's romantic life is a thorny, tangled web but he does have a steady thing with clark that lois is also aware of/sometimes involved in. it works very well for them. tim is aware of this enough to use it against bruce if need be but otherwise Does Not See It

duke does not join the crew yet in the timeline of this au but right now in his pre-batfam era i imagine he's running a semi-viral tiktok account where he posts skits making fun of various gotham rogues. (he does have a cameo in chapter 4!)

idk if this counts as a headcanon or as canon at this point but bruce is jewish in this au! this also make a brief appearance in chapter 4. and it is alluded to earlier, iirc.

of all the teen vigilantes running around steph is the one who worries bruce the most. not because she has shown any particularly evil or destructive inclinations, but because she's had the gall to 1) be robin 2) be robin as like, an internship, and 3) date one of bruce's kids twice. there is nothing bruce can do to intimidate her. she's too powerful.

re: the above: stephcass real.

after tim learned about ghost-maker he started logging all of khoa's safehouses in his not-at-all-stalkery bats-and-bat-adjacents database and sometimes shows up at them unannounced 😎 khoa finds this hugely irritating. tim is also khoa's favorite batkid. the two facts are not unrelated.

in a slight au of this au (some minor shifting timelines re: identity reveal) i like to headcanon that bbts could take place in the same universe as Lipstick on the glass

i think clark is genuinely jealous of kon's TTK (in a, like, "that ability is objectively really cool" kind of way), and he lets it show because it makes kon feel good about it. (it also, early on, made kon more determined to train his TTK so he could do cool tricks with it, which in turn helped him strengthen his control/range of abilities.)

kon is relatively popular at school in smallville but doesn't have many close friends there, because kon already imprinted hard on young justice / teen titans crew by the time he started school. he likes people at school just fine but his mind is usually elsewhere.

meanwhile tim has some civilian friends he genuinely cares about but purposefully distances himself from emotionally. everyone else at school at this point either does not think about him, dislikes him, or is morbidly fascinated by him re: his parents + getting scooped up by bruce wayne.

jason does not know how to turn off autocorrect on his phone and is too annoyed to look it up. tim messed with the settings one time and nearly got titans tower 2'd because of it

#tim made 'nightwing' autocorrect to 'my number 1 favorite vigilante ever for real' as a bday present for dick. jason didn't catch it in time #anyway oops that got long #a lot of these are chapter 4-centric because that's where i'm at #also a lot of the things i headcanon for tim and kon especially end up just getting dropped into the text itself #asks #my fic #batfam

Just wanted to say that your posts on the Southern Reach books inspired me to check them out. I tore through the first one and I'm about halfway through the second - absolutely loving them so far. So thanks!

Any other books like this that you'd recommend?

I'm really glad you're enjoying them! They're definitely on top of my favorite book list at this point, they're absolutely phenomenal.

I have a few, though they're mostly similar by virtue of nebulous vibes—I dunno how much I'd say they're like the Southern Reach books, but they gave me a similar feeling.

What Moves The Dead by T. Kingfisher (who is on tumblr!) is a historical fiction novella in the category of what I lovingly call "fungal horror"; it was the first thing I read in 2023 and it was phenomenal. I think I finished it by noon on New Years. (CW for most of what comes with that particular horror vibe, though I don't think there's anything more than you'd encounter in the Southern Reach.)

The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K LeGuin is older (as you might imagine) and might seem a bit of an odd line to draw here, but it deals with a post-climate disaster world and has a lot of the same ambiguity that I liked in the Southern Reach. Also plenty of red tape bureaucracy. (CW for unreality and psychological malpractice, and a very vehement one at that; both of those are pretty much the focal point of the plot.)

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke is... pretty indescribable, if I'm being honest, but it concerns a man who lives in and studies a world called The House, which is a series of rooms filled with statues that frequently flood. You will finish it and stare at a wall for a while to process it. (This probably requires a very mild CW for amnesia, but it's not particularly well-described.)

Also, because I am who I am, a nonfiction recommendation: Underland by Robert Macfarlane. It's about underground spaces and deep time and it is genuinely one of the most beautiful books I have ever read in my life. If you want the kind of mildly-fearful awe that the Southern Reach inspires, except applied to the actual world we live in, please read this book. I think it rewired my brain entirety. (CW for claustrophobia, as there are some extensive descriptions of various underground locations, both manmade and geological.)

I also have just barely started the Ambergris Trilogy, also by Jeff VanderMeer, and though I'm not far into it, it's already promising, and I've heard good things!

Also if anyone who sees this has additional recommendations, please feel free to add them; I'd also love to find some more to read with the same vibes.

The grand ballroom of the Gordon residence was aglow with flickering candles, a festive atmosphere lingering in the air just days after Christmas. The Gordon family had decided to extend the holiday cheer by hosting a winter ball, and the opulent setting lent itself to a magical evening. Y/N, donned in a stunning white dress that seemed to reflect the glistening snow outside, stood amid the elegantly attired guests.

Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, and Lois Lane had been graciously invited to the celebration. Bruce had nearly had to beg his friends when he realized the opportunity had arisen for him to see Y/N again. He was beginning to regret that choice as Lois and Clark continued to terrorize him with little remarks and jabs. As Y/N twirled around the dance floor with Jimmie Gordon, the eldest son of Commissioner Gordon, Bruce watched from a distance, an unusual tension lingering in his normally composed demeanor. The sight of Y/N dancing with another man stirred a sensation he wasn't accustomed to – a twinge of jealousy.

Clark and Lois noticed Bruce's subtle discomfort and exchanged knowing glances. Lois couldn't resist teasing him as they observed Y/N's grace on the dance floor. "Well, Bruce, looks like your protégé is having a splendid time with young Jimmie. I never knew you had competition in the mentorship department."

Bruce shot Lois a glare but refrained from responding, choosing to focus on the dance floor. Y/N and Jimmie moved with an easy rhythm, laughter and joy evident in their interactions. It was clear that they had formed an easy companionship over the winter break. Bruce found himself clenching his jaw, the unease within him growing.

As the dance concluded, Bruce couldn't help but feel relieved when Jimmie escorted Y/N back to the sidelines. Seizing the opportunity, Bruce approached her, a genuine smile forming on his face. Y/N's eyes lit up as she saw him, and she greeted him with a warm hug.

"Mr. Wayne, I had no idea you would be here," Y/N exclaimed, her excitement palpable.

"The pleasure is mine, Miss Wayne. Allow me to introduce you to my friends, Clark Kent and Lois Lane," Bruce said, guiding her towards the couple. Y/N exchanged pleasantries, expressing her gratitude for the chocolates Bruce had sent her and her friends earlier in the year.

Lois, always eager to get the entire story, turned to Y/N with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "So, Miss Abbott, I'm curious. Was Mr. Wayne on his best behavior during his visit to the college. He is not always the greatest conversationalist.

Y/N chuckled, the warmth of her laughter filling the air. "Not at all! We had a lovely time and I found no issues with his conversation. Then again, I speak so much that I do not always know if there is an awkward lapse in conversation.”

“I found no issue,” Bruce grunted.

Clark hid his laughter at his friend’s short answer in his drink. “Bruce was telling us that you intend to be a writer. We will have to be amongst your first readers.”

As the conversation flowed, Y/N spoke about her time at the college and how she was trying to catch up and read all of the greats. Bruce, ever the literature enthusiast, recommended one of his favorite books, Gulliver's Travels. Y/N listened attentively, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm as Bruce shared his love for the classic tale.

Their conversation deepened, and Bruce found himself drawn into the conversation. Lois and Clark shared a look at how verbose their friend was being. The tension that had gripped Bruce earlier on the dance floor faded away, replaced by a genuine connection. As the winter waltz continued around them, Bruce and Y/N lost themselves in conversation, the ballroom becoming a backdrop to the growing bond between them.

As the melody of a soft waltz filled the ballroom, Clark held out his hand to Lois and gave Bruce a meaningful look.

With an air of determination, Bruce turned to Y/N, offering a hand with a genuine smile, "May I have this dance, Miss Abbott?" he asked, the subtle warmth in his eyes contrasting with his usual stoic demeanor.

Y/N's face lit up with surprise and delight. "Of course, Mr. Wayne. I'd be honored."

They moved to the center of the ballroom, joining the other couples who were swaying gracefully to the enchanting melody. As Bruce held Y/N, their movements became a seamless blend of elegance and quiet intimacy.

The atmosphere around them seemed to shift, the world narrowing down to the gentle rise and fall of the music. Bruce's usually guarded expression softened as he focused on the person in his arms. Y/N, in her white dress, radiated a timeless beauty, and Bruce couldn't help but marvel at the sight of her.

"You look beautiful tonight, Miss Abbott," Bruce remarked, his voice carrying a rare warmth.

Y/N smiled, a warmth rising in her. "Thank you, Mr. Wayne. I must insist you call me Y/N if we are to be friends.”

“As you wish.” The dance continued in a comfortable silence for a while, the unspoken connection between them growing stronger with each shared step. The flickering candles in the ballroom created a dreamlike ambiance, casting a soft glow on their faces.

As the waltz reached its conclusion, Bruce and Y/N paused, their eyes meeting in a shared moment of quiet understanding. The music faded away, leaving them standing together in the middle of the ballroom.

"Thank you for the dance, Mr. Wayne. That was truly wonderful," Y/N said, a genuine appreciation in her eyes.

Bruce nodded, a rare smile playing on his lips. "The pleasure was mine, Y/N."

They rejoined the festivities, the dance leaving an indelible mark on the evening. The winter ball continued with laughter, music, and the shared memories of a dance.

GODDD VECTORRR i like him so so muchhhh. the zexal guy who Grabbed me and has Not let go. He's got so much personality, he's so EXPRESSIVE, I LOVE THAT WE GOT A 'MONSTROUS' YGO BAD GUY WHO'S SILLY AND EXPRESSIVE!!! he looks like he was drawn by a version of me from another dimension, he's FUNNY AND WRETCHED AND THE RELIGIOUS SYMBOLISM MAKES ME BANANASSS. And I love that at the end of the day he's... god he's just a kid. He's a mean miserable alien-demon child playing 4d chess with everyone in his life and his backstory does make me emo and his character arc (culminating in this very inauthentic always doing bits type if character doing something so genuine and beneficial for someone other than himself) is just so goooddd wahhhh. HIS DUB AND SUB VOICES ARE BOTH SO GOOD TOO!! hes just Danabait to the max and who am i to resist.

rei shingetsu/ray shadows is straight up like when they add a new cast member to a sitcom in a later season in a desperate bid to attract new viewers, but brought to the most bonkers extreme possible. he's like the great gazoo if the great gazoo just started killing people. he's a Too Many Cooks-ass yugioh character. "And Introducing..." ass yugioh character. literally canonly guy who cant stop doing bits. zexal great for many things but this is definitely one of the biggies

Okay so it took me a few days to find some fics I wanted to rec because I'm the worst at remembering to bookmark fics I like.

Most of these are Shazam because he's my favorite. But I'll include a couple others for good measure. If you want more recs I can definitely find some more just let me know!

The Path of a Lightning Bolt by kathkin

This series of stories is about how dceu Billy would work with the Justice League and how they deal with finding out he's a teenager. It is so heartfelt and genuinely funny with some of the best characterization of movie Billy, Wally, Cyborg and John Stewart that I've ever read.

I Am Not A Prince by Oka_Hills1232

This I an amazing story about Black Adam naming Billy as his heir, thus the heir to Kahndaq's throne, kidnapping him in the process in a misguided attempt to take care of him. There is such amazing world building about the Champions, the gods, and magic in general. Beautiful prose, fun action, and so much intriguing lore.

A Christmas Peril by The_Dawn_Knight

This is a much darker fic about Billy, Damian, and Jon overcoming their extreme childhood traumas while dealing with complicated family relationships, evil schemes, and villains who want them dead. Definitely read the tags before jumping in, but it is a really good read. There are multiple plot lines that are woven together so well and there's a lot of great character introspection and action. It's pretty long and still on going but definitely worth the time.

Like Going Through Hell on a Sunday by probablyanxious

This is about Jason Todd bringing Damian to Gotham while on the run from the League of Shadows. There's lots of brotherly bonding, family angst, and fast paced action. Along the way Jason also picks up a stray Billy and inadvertently pulls him into the family. Definitely recommend this to batfam fans!

(There’s a sister story told mainly through Bruce's POV of these events called My Hope Has Faded Through the Years that I also recommend)

Brilliant (like a confession) by kathkin

This is about Lois Lane learning that Clark Kent is Superman by admitting to Superman that she has a crush on Clark Kent. This is literally one of the best Lois stories I've ever read and is my personal favorite version of the identity reveal between them.

And lastly

The Magic Word by zorilleerrant

This fic was actually gifted to me through Fandom Trumps Hate last year and I absolutely adore it (and all of the authors other works too). Its about Marcus Sun aka Monkey Prince and Billy having to deal with zombies. There's identity reveals, amazingly funny dialogue, trans rep, and more! Theres some minor gore (because zombies) but its not an angsty apocalypse story. It's s lot of fun and deserves more love!

Oh boy let’s go. This will be hard. I am not doing these ranked at all, just doing them in order of oldest to newest.

First of is How to Fowl a Bat! It’s a Batman x Artemis Fowl crossover over where Artemis hacks into the Bat Computer to protect the People and then gets catapulted into the world of Vigilantes and Superheroes. (Not so unlike he got dragged into the world of the fae and dwarves.) It was my first ever fanfic period so it holds a special place in my heart.

Next is Formula for a Crime Scene! It’s a DPxDCxArtemis Fowl fic where Danny and Artemis get forced to go to Gotham, for entirely applicable reasons, and attend Gotham Academy with Damian Wayne. The Superhero, Ex-Con, and Vigilante of course clash and it’s very fun. It’s also a crackship fic. It was thought up of at 3 am by Ham and I when I was discussing How to Fowl a Bat and is easily my most gremlin (hehe) fic.

Third is The Rebirth of Tim Drake. It’s a DPxDC, with a Halfa!Tim Drake twist. Basically plopping this boy in another state to confront his trauma, grow as a hero, and develop new relationships. It is, of course, a Dead Tired ship fic as well. This is just a fic I genuinely enjoy. I’m enjoying the way the plot is evolving so much.

My fourth is Under Guiding Star-Lit Sky, We Will Learn How to Say Goodbye. It’s a DPxDC Spiritfarer Danny AU Fic. Danny became a the next Spiritfarer after Stella by Clockwork’s fucking around is forced to learn how to properly grieve the two families he loved and loss in his (half) life. It was started during a Spiritfarer hyperfixation and honestly, I think it’s a fanfic a lot of DPxDC readers will appreciate in a “oh I’m heartbroken but also happy” kind of way.

My last one also hit me during a hyperfixation and it’s Now We’re Stuck Here to Decay. It’s a Batman x FNAF Security Breach fic. (With a dash of Superman in the form of Clark and Jon.) It’s great. Some of the Bat boys, Cass, and Jon go to the Mega Pizzaplex only for Tim to get kidnapped, Damian to get murdered, and everyone’s else to get traumatized. Not that Tim and Damian aren’t traumatized either of course. Anyways, it’s my only Dead Dove fic which is an interesting exploration into the world of those fics.

Now to figure out who else’s asks to invade. I probably won’t get up to five. XD

What are your top 5 favorite books?

oh no this one's actually really difficult sjkjfsk

i'm very picky and i've had a bad few years for reading (2020-2022 i didn't read much, 2023 i read lots of new stuff but i hardly liked any of it, and in 2024 i'm *still* trying to get myself to reread things i know i like...) so. umm...

here is my list of favourite books from when i was a teenager, probably subject to change:

carry on (rainbow rowell) - YA fantasy romance, sincere love letter to the genre, and incisive genre deconstruction. the book that got me into writing fanfic, and the reason for my url! featuring a sad gay vampire and the worst chosen one ever to be chosen in a genuine and very well-executed enemies to lovers arc.

the raven boys (maggie stiefvater) - YA fantasy/romance/crime/genre-eclectic novel about a close-knit group of teenagers on a quest, and a prophecy that one of them will die within the year. hard to describe, but both very compelling and fun.

the darkest part of the forest (holly black) - YA fantasy romance about a town where humans live alongside the fae. a really interesting world and a great story intertwining a bunch of folkloric-feeling plot threads. also, this author's best work, imo, alongside her other standalone (the coldest girl in coldtown; about a vampirism epidemic.)

cuckoo song (frances hardinge) - quite an atypical YA fantasy about a changeling girl, set in (iirc) 1920s britain. grimy in an aesthetically pleasing way, and sort of horror-adjacent.

the secret history (donna tartt) - adult crime/mystery/litfic/founding text of the "dark academia" aesthetic. a group of intense, pretentious classics students murder one of their classmates, and we spend most of the book tracing back how/why they got to that point.

and here are five books which should be candidates for my favourite, but which i need to reread to be sure of my feelings about:

under the pendulum sun (jeanette ng) - gothic fantasy about missionaries trying to convert the fae to christianity.

piranesi (susanna clarke) - fantasy about a man with amnesia living in an infinitely large and impossible house.

the girl with all the gifts (m.r. carey)- a sort of dystopian zombie story, with an unusual amount of sympathy for the zombies.

rosemary's baby (ira levin) - horror about a woman being manipulated by a cult into bearing the antichrist.

we have always lived in the castle (shirley jackson) - gothic(?) novel about the remains of a family living in the aftermath of the murder of most of them.

so umm yeah. there's several hundred words to answer a very simple question skfdsjk

What is your opinion of Smallville's Lois Lane?

How is it not obvious yet? She's the love of my fucking life

Okay seriously tho, she's genuinely my fav character on the show, probably one of my fav characters in anything ever. She just... Works, both in the sense of her making sense internally and contributing so much to the show. She only just showed up on my rewatch so I'll withhold any truly thematic analysis for now, but we gotta at least acknowledge that she's fucking perfect for Clark. She constantly challenges him to better himself but also believes in him more than any other character to the show - more than any other character, perhaps, she sees that Clark is Kal El is Clark is Kal El is Superman. Also may I just say, the way she figures out Clark's identity is fucking iconic.

I also just love her character for her. She likes Clark from the very beginning, at least physically, but she doesn't sit around waiting for him, nor does she just stand around begging him to trust her with his secret. Again, not very far into my rewatch, but where Lana and Lex become fucking obsessed with Clark's secret, Lois, to my recollection, spends most of her time just admiring Clark for the parts of himself he DOES choose to share with her. She's such a breath of fresh air in the series, her dynamics with everyone are incredible. She's spunky and rude and flirty but also still obviously so caring - her introduction is so perfect, blasting into town willing to do whatever's necessary to reach her goal, but her goal in the first place is to help avenge someone she loves (not knowing yet that Chloe is actually alive). We see her dedication and intelligence and everything that will make her a great reporter and the way she's a perfect match for Clark with their banter from the very beginning.

I just... Genuinely, I adore her. The moment she arrives Erica Durance plays her to perfection. It feels like she's always been there even as we're so aware she's brand new. Her chemistry is insane with Clark as I've said, but I at least can't help but enjoy every moment she's on screen no matter who she's talking to, whether it's Chloe or Jonathan Kent or Martha Kent or Oliver - God, her and Oliver are great by the way. Also, the identity shenanigans with the Blur vs Clark - we all love a good love triangle with only two people, right? It's not just me and stackthedeck?

So yeah, 15/10 S tier character, favorite version of Lois in anything ever (although I've really only read a tiny bit of the comics so hopefully that version will also win me over; I just got the entire death of superman, world without superman, and return of superman collection so I'll be reading that soon).

2023 Ao3 Wrapped

It's almost 2024, so it's finally time to show you guys my Ao3 Wrapped (A recap of my personal ao3 read fanfics, their fandoms and the ones i liked the most).

This year I read 218 complete fanfics from many different fandoms:

All of them together add to a total of 4.172.008 words (Almost double of last year's count). This calculates to 418 hours of reading time, cus i have no social life <3

AND NOW FOR THE BEST PART: My favorites of the year!!

#1 - AIRPLANES BY @captainmintyfresh Thiam Words: 236,875 Chapters: 43

This is most definitely my favorite fanfic of all time, it's SO WELL WRITTEN and so funny and sad and cute and romantic I JUST CAN'T GET OVER IT! Honestly one of the best works i ever encounter and its my top #1 of 2023 without a doubt!!

#2 - Dangerous Dreams BY @shirozora-draws Dinluke Words: 196,702 Works: 4

With FOUR different works, this series GOT ME WRAPPED AROUND IT'S FINGER with the story, character studies and illustration that literally made me love it so much i wanna cry. My personal favorite was The Storm, but every single one it's a masterpiece on its own and I really hope they finish The Stars soon so i can scream and cry a bit more.

#3 The Right To remain Silent by fallingforboys @theoceanismyinkwell Thiam Words: 28,992 Chapters: 3/3

This Teen Wolf adaptation of brooklyn nine-nine made my year 200% better, its definitely something i will read over and over again without ever getting tired, since its two of my favorite shows together! I love every aspect of it and i will recomend to everyone that I know in every situation possible.

#4 oh you're a crewmate? name every task by @remycchi Superbat Words: 11,348 Works: 2

This short and cute series is such a cool and chill read, it's very funny and makes you giggle and kick your feet, and also made me laugh very hard. I genuinely love how light it is and I have to admit that I read it more than a few times during the year.

#5 Bad Luck Buck 'verse by whileyouresleeping Buddie Words: 50,216 Works:4

ANOTHER PERFECT SERIES THAT I ABSOLUTE LOVE! This one is funny, even if a bit exaggerated. I love how their relationship grows and you definitely should put it in your list for next year.

another little excerpt of the tcos chapter 3 wip! this time ft. kon, ma, and a direct parallel to one of clark's lines in new krypton.

Kon balks in the doorway.

Ma’s standing at the fireplace, tenderly cradling a photo frame in both hands. Kon can’t see it from this angle, but he doesn’t need to; he knows exactly which frame sits proudly in the center of the mantelpiece.

It’s Ma and Pa’s favorite wedding photo. It’s old and grainy, slightly yellowed at the edges, if you look real close; the photo was taken right after Pa dipped Ma for a kiss at the altar, then brought her back upright. Ma’s clinging to his shoulders, while Pa’s arms are wrapped around her waist, and they’re both laughing and laughing, too delighted to look anywhere but at each other.

Kon’s heart aches.

He makes sure to step on the creaky floorboard on the left as he walks in, sets the mugs down on the coffee table. Krypto’s claws clack against the hardwood as he follows. “Here’s your tea, Ma.”

Ma doesn’t turn. “Thank you, dear heart,” she says, her voice soft and wistful.

Kon hesitates. Stares at her back for a moment, at the old green cardigan wrapped around her shoulders. There’s more gray in her hair than there was before he died. She still carries herself with dignity and grace, but losing Pa has dulled the light in her eyes. It’s still there, but it doesn’t shine quite as bright as it used to.

Kon shifts his weight. Bites his lip. Fidgets with the hem of his shirt. Finally sinks to sit awkwardly on the edge of the sofa.

“Ma,” he says, dropping his gaze to the floor. “…I’m sorry it was me who came back, and not him.”

There. He’s finally come out and said it. The words hang heavy in the space between them, their weight flowing from Kon’s chest into the open air.

A beat passes.

Ma lets out a slow breath and carefully sets the photo back onto the mantelpiece.

Then she turns, and the fire in her eyes makes him genuinely lose his balance for a second in shock; his TTK latches onto the sofa to keep him from toppling over onto his back. What—where did that come from? Why’s she—?!

“Conner Kent.” Ma’s eyes flash. Her voice stays even, but Kon is shocked to see that her hands are trembling. “Don’t you ever say that to me, ever, ever again. Don’t even think it—not under my roof, or anyone else’s, either. Do you hear me?”

“Wh-what?” Kon flounders, gaping up at her like a clown. “But—why are you mad? I thought—I thought you’d… I mean, it’s not like I could trade myself for him anyways, it’s—it’s just, you know, the sentiment…?”

Ma’s face does something funny, like she can’t decide whether to lecture him or burst into tears. That’s terrifying. The last thing he ever, ever wants to do is make her cry.

Hesitant, Kon shuffles a little closer to her. “…Ma?”

I’m gonna share my DC character headcanons because I want to and no one can stop me! (I wish I had cool art skills to ad visuals to this but I am artistically challenged 😔)

Bruce Wayne:

Birthday: October 10th, 1991 (Spooky szn, also I decided he’s not old)

Sexuality: Bisexual he’s in love with Clark 😊

Favorite Animal: Bats because I’m basic

Has Autism

Height: 6’0

Favorite Food: Lasagna, it is inexplicably the only thing he can cook.

Gender Identity: Demiboy, He/They Pronouns

Now the juicy backstory…

-In my demented brain Bruce didn’t actually have a happy childhood before his parents death and that Thomas was kind of a traditional toxic masculinity man. I think Martha tried her best but couldn’t fully protect Bruce. Alfred was a friend of Martha that moved in after their deaths to take care of Bruce and instilled a lot more positive values in him.

-Is canon, absolutely not, but it’s my brain I can do what I want. I feel like this also helps explain Bruce’s struggles with being a emotionally vulnerable with his kids and the why he makes shitty choices sometimes.

-I also believe he wants to be better and genuinely tries really hard to be a good dad. Very much that trope of ‘I want you to have a better life than I did’.

-Post Alfred moving in with Bruce his development into Batman plays out pretty much the same, but he he does start to realize he is not the straight.

-After adopting Dick he finds out that his son is definitely not straight (caught holding Wally wests hand in a not god honoring way) and has a lot of internal turmoil, he wants to support his son, but has to wrestle with his own internalized homophobia. (Thanks Tom). Lots of angst it’ll be great.

-This contributes to Dick leaving and Bruce finally confronts his issues, enter Jason.

-Jason dies and Bruce goes all the way off the deep end, almost kills the joker. I actually like the idea that Dick stops him and then returns secretly to finish the Joker off, cause he thinks Bruce wouldn’t be able to recover.

-Tim gets adopted a little earlier because jack and Janet throw him out for being trans. Trans baby Tim is the best. This helps Bruce come to terms with his own identity again.

-Steph becomes robin because slay queen mama waffle boots the house spoiler

-Jason returns and has his under the red hood arc minus Bruce basically slitting his throat with a batarang cause I hate that and it makes no sense.

-Cass is adopted and becomes the silent chaos queen we deserve. I like many people headcanon her as being selectively mute, Bruce learns sign language faster than anyone else.

-Damian shows up around the age of 5 because again time is like dick Grayson, bendable as all hell. Bruce loves his babies but extra babies Damian because he loves him and sees a lot of himself in Damian and doesn’t want him to be like him.

-Bruce reachs out to Jason because he missed his son to much and he comes back and omg it’s just the best thing to ever happen pls DC let these boys be SOFT.

-Bruce adopts Duke because another vigilante child isn’t gonna make a difference now but little does he know that his fifth son is perhaps the most chaos gremlin of all. He is flashlight and he will step on the Jokers throat for fun, because not only did the joker jokerize his bio parents but he fucked with his brothers and his dad to much so he’s gonna toaster that man’s tub.
