you think it doesn't mean a lot that episode 5 opens on karl losing blood and limping into the synagogue and breaking rules as a massive fuck you to god. he could have gone anywhere else but he goes to the synagogue. karl weissman who stares down the lamp, a symbol of god's eternal presence, and he lights the last cigar that he stole from a man he killed. you think he's not asking why he's here and god is here but esther isn't? why his mother isn't? you think he stares at that lamp throughout his conversation with rabbi goldstein for no reason?? and karl weissman and how he drags polly back to that same synagogue, and still watches that light before trying to kill her?? the faint light in the background as polly accusses him of nearly killing esther himself? how it's the only warm light, how it is purposely framed so it's seen through the entire confrontation, against the blue tones of the scene? and hayden having the balls to compare elias to god, and it's karl who finally kills the false prophet. it doesn't fix anything but i think he believes his justice and revenge is god given. poetry in motion i think

I don’t know if this is controversial, but Karl/Charlie is the best part of this show, no questions asked
