Stardust: They smell like lemongrass

Summary: Pre-wolfstarbucks; Prongsfoot. Some short and sweet fluff. James and Sirius have just opened their new bar/cafe, Stardust. During their first live music night, James takes a moment to dedicate a song to Sirius.

James leaned back on the wooden stool a bit, taking a breath between songs to stretch his fingers out a bit. He still couldn’t believe this was real; he was playing to an audience on the small stage in the corner of his bar. They had really done it; Sirius and him had opened Stardust and there was a crowd here for their first music night. A small crowd, but that was okay, they preferred it that way. There were people here they didn’t even know, people who they weren’t friends with, who weren’t just coming to be nice or supportive but because they had actually sought out this space and were enjoying the atmosphere James and Sirius were working so hard to cultivate.

James locked eyes briefly with Sirius where they stood behind the bar, pouring a brew for a customer. To say they shared a smile would be inaccurate as neither of them had been able to stop smiling for the past hour at least. James paused to take in a breath of success, noting the extra bit of satisfaction that sharing this with Sirius gave him.

“Alright, one last song from me before I let the real musicians play again,” James spoke into the microphone and got a few chuckles in response. “First, I just want to get in another thank you to all of you for coming out to our first music night at Stardust Bar and Cafe!” Cheers and applause. “As our friends know, this has been a dream of mine and my partner’s Sirius’ for years. We really wanted a space to relax, have fun, a comfortable atmosphere with good music and most importantly good drinks and good coffee in the mornings. And a space that was welcoming to us all. I think we’re off to a pretty good start.”

“So, this is my last song of the night and then you all can give a warm welcome to my friend Kingsley who will take over from here. Kingsley, where are you, love?” Kingsley waved to James from a corner booth and there was light applause as James waved back. “This last song is dedicated to my beautiful partner and the love of my life, Sirius, co-owner of Stardust. They're behind the bar tonight, everyone say hello!” Sirius had turned a delightful shade of red and paused what they were doing to watch James in surprise.

James started strumming his guitar, maintaining eye contact with Sirius throughout the opening lines of the song. Sirius’ smile grew as they recognized it and they brought their hands up to their chest, placing them over their heart.

“They smell like lemongrass and sleep. They taste like apple juice and peaches. Oh, you would find them in a polaroid picture. And they.... Mean everything... to me.”

James sung the words slow, drawing them out to increase their intimacy. This whole night had been about Stardust, and it wasn’t over yet. He wanted this one moment, the less than three minutes of song, to be about the two of them more than anything. If the expression on Sirius’ face was anything to go by, he was managing it successfully.

Sirius didn’t manage to serve a single drink through the whole song, their eyes never leaving James. James winked at Sirius as he played the last notes and Sirius blew James a two handed kiss, eyes glistening a bit in the low lights of the bar.

James was loath to stop watching Sirius, but he finally turned back to the crowd as the distant sound of their polite applause grew louder in his extended silence.

“Alright all, thanks again for the love. Give us a few minutes for set up and Kingsley will be up here to keep the music going. Have a drink in the meantime. Last call for alcohol is 3am and we’ll switch over to coffee at that point, so feel free to stick around as long as you’d like. Have a great night and enjoy!”

James stepped off the stage and made a beeline for Sirius, knowing he only had a moment because he needed to help Kingsley get set up but also knowing that he absolutely needed to give Sirius a kiss and it could not wait. He jumped behind the bar and practically threw himself against Sirius’ back while Sirius finished taking an order from a customer. Sirius just laughed and pressed a hand to James’ forearm.

“Thank you for my song,” Sirius murmured as they turned away from the customer. James loosened his arms enough for Sirius to turn around.

“You’re very welcome. I love you.” James clutched at the back of Sirius’ shirt and leaned in to press a kiss to their lips. Sirius reached up to hold James’ face between their hands and ensured the brief time for their kiss didn’t make it any less deep and loving.

“I love you too,” they spoke against James’ lips before releasing them.

James reluctantly but efficiently dropped his arms and stepped back and away to get back to work. The rest of the night passed in a blur, James helping first Kingsley and later Dorcas to set up and tear down for music sets, helping behind the bar when it got a little crowded, and generally running around to keep tables clean and make sure their staff had what they needed to keep things running smoothly. The fast pace of the work didn’t stop James and Sirius from finding each other in the crowd from time to time, exchanging glances across the room to check in wordlessly, pressing quick hands to the other’s back or arm as they moved past each other or worked together behind the bar.

Before James knew it, the night was wrapping up, the live music over and the low fi playing over the speakers being turned down quieter as the crowd thinned out. James and Sirius got ready to go, leaving things in their staff’s capable hands when the early morning shift came in. They were exhausted and they were so pleased. It had been an incredibly successful first live music night, only a week into being open and things were already starting to fall into routines.

For now, though, they would go home to fall into bed beside each other and get a few hours of sleep before coming back in the afternoon. And they couldn’t wait to do it all again, side by side, love in their every step.

you know what I hate? when people take a gay ship and gender bend it, but only one of the characters, so that it's a straight ship. I'm looking at all you people who do the aus with sirius as a trans girl, which is fine, I have absolutely no problem with trans people or sirius being trans, I literally am trans myself. I do love sirius being gender-non-conforming--but I do get uncomfortable when suddenly wolfstar is a straight ship. it gives the same vibes as straight people going to gay bars. lie what are you doing here? this isn't for you, this is for gay people who want representation and safety. if you're going to genderbend, do it to both sides of the equation please ❤️❤️❤️

Sirius is a sleep demon who gives nightmares to humans. Remus is an insomniac with hallucinations. Unstoppable force, meet Immovable object. “No!” Sirius smacked the plastic cup filled with stale cereal out of his punished human’s hand. He responded a touch more dramatically this time to Sirius’ sudden physical appearance, though it was mostly due to the fact that his food now covered the floor. “Eat some real food and go to sleep!” Sirius’ skin prickled with a thousand fiery needles—release, release, release. “My Cheerios,” his punished human mumbled, eyes glued to the ground forlornly. “How can you even be functioning on this little sleep?” Sirius’ voice pitched higher and higher as he spoke. He wondered if he was capable of yanking his fake human hair out.

Comment: This fic was so special, and the kind of fic I kept thinking about and coming back to days after I first finished reading it. I loved the depiction of Remus' mental health struggles, and I loved getting to watch Sirius explore the human world. Despite the mental health struggles Remus is dealing with (and the fact that Sirius is a sleep demon who has to give Remus nightmares), it's actually also quite fluffy and cute a lot of the time! And agender Demon Lily Evans is just absolute perfection! Such an amazing fic, I can very highly recommend it!

Here's the description of me:

I identity as agender, with he/they/she pronouns but i honestly dont really care about it that much and dont really correct people on anything

Im queer, mostly into men

Physical appearance:

5'6, bit chubby, short brown hair that i usually tuck behind my ears, grey eyes with glasses, black nosering in my left nostril, L and R tattooed on my wrist (yes for left and right lol). I mostly wear skater or cottagecore style clothes, usually dark and earthy colours with the occasional blue and red.

Personality:

Gemini infp, 6w5. Im usually more shy and anxious when i first meet someone or am in a new environment, but get pretty enthusiastic and talkative once i get to know someone. Im autistic, so i can get sensory overload or just overwhelmed, and sometimes this can lead me to get panic attacks or become nonverbal. This also means that certain topics can lead me to talk for like hours, even with strangers. My love language is physical touch, i love hugs or linking arms with people, and i have a tendency to lay against someone when sitting or if im very close with someone sometimes biting them (softly i promise lol). I do struggle a lot with recognising my emotions and i dont really like fighting. I dont really talk about my feelings, mostly opinions. I am known to be very good at debates, and usually lead them at school, because i am known to be able to form logic based opinions easily. I am creative and good at analysing situation and calculating the best outcome in my head. Also im very much the oldest sibling.

My hobbies:

I love art and am beginning my studies to become a visual artist in video game development. I love singing and music and never go anywhere without my headphones. Im good at writing and really enjoy writing essays and stories. Biology and nature are two of my biggest interests, specifically marine biology. Baking and cooking really helps calming me down. I play guitar and i also love reading

My favourite artists are Hozier, mitski, phoebe bridgers, deftones, the smiths, tears for fears, the oh hellos, liana flores, nirvana and Lit

My favourite music genres are rock, metal, folk, indie, classical and 80's in general.

Extra info: i am a slytherin, im dutch and i speak 5 languages (dutch, english, french, german, irish), i have followed a special english course for 5 years and have a Cambridge C1 certificate. My patronus is a dun mare, and my wand is a beech wood, dragon core 12 1/2"
