What do you think gay men are attracted to in men that they can’t be attracted to in women?
It can’t be anything about femininity or masculinity obviously. That’s both sexist, and cultural so can’t be what drives men-only attraction.
It can’t be anything about stated identity because someone could lie just as easily as they could tell the truth in such a statement, and it makes no sense because homosexuality and heterosexuality exists in other species with no stated identities. It’s not like other animals without gender are all pan.
Saying idk it’s the vibes or some indescribable trait men have that women can’t but “I can’t explain” is a nonanswer.
Soooooooo what is it? Or do you think any sexuality but bi/pan is just cultural performance or an identity rather than an inborn orientation?
- [ ]
see I can tell that this is a bad faith ask because I've been getting an influx of terfs on TikTok lately but I'll take the bait and answer this legitimately. I think the *actual* answer here is that sexuality is complex and even though we put a lot of labels on it, those labels are ultimately never going to account for every possible corner case and so rather than constantly redefining the terms of our sexuality I think it's better if we just embrace the messiness of it all as part of the game.
Like I consider myself a lesbian (and you would probably consider me a straight man) which *should* mean I'm only attracted to women. But I've also found myself attracted to drag queens and femboys and some non-binary folks who identify more on the masculine side of the spectrum. Does that mean I'm actually bisexual? I don't think so, because I don't feel any attraction to dudes (cis or trans) who aren't actively playing with gender in a way that's either flirting with femininity or wholeheartedly embracing it.
I imagine plenty of gay men have a similar experience seeing women who present very masculine or a non-binary person who's more on the femme side. And before you accuse me of insisting that lesbians can be attracted to men, there is a HUGE difference between saying that gender non-conforming people throw a wrench into people's sexual identities and saying that "lesbianism includes men".
In short, the reason why I don't have a definitive clear cut answer to your question is because I think human sexuality defies such an answer. I just so happen to be ok with that because I think it's a better, easier way to live

A request for a nsfw alphabet for ghost (or any/rest of them up too you) 👀 that size kink drabble lives in my head rent free btw you write him so damn well 😣🥲
hi hi :-) thanks! ghost for now, and gaz as well because i have garrick brainrot [nsfw below cut]
GHOST.
Aftercare = (what they’re like after sex) If he's post-subbing, he's the most needy fucker alive. All over you, despite how sweaty he is, plastering himself to your chest for a bit of cuddling as the little spoon. Dom Ghost will provide aftercare if you're actually in a relationship, but if it's just a quick fuck he's gone after a bare minimum check-in with you to make sure nothing's broken. But if he does have feelings for you, he's drowning you in praise, kissing lightly over the bites and bruises left in his wake, helping you sit up against his sturdy chest, bringing a bottle of water to your lips. B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s) Simon Riley has a huge fat fucking uncut dick, and that's just the truth. He likes seeing you struggle to take all of it, splitting you open on his cock. He's also an ass man. Loves to watch your cheeks bounce when he fucks you from behind, ripple when he spanks you, loves burying his face in your ass to eat you out.
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically) Do not let this man fuck you raw he is fertile.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs) He's an exhibitionist, and he definitely wants everyone else on base to know who's fucking you and just how well he's doing it. He'll start groping you in risky high-traffic areas hoping someone sees. Swears up and down he had no idea anyone was coming down the hall.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?) Ghost fucks. There's no way Ghost doesn't fuck. This man has been whored out in like 80% of the countries he's been stationed in. He's great at mindless, meaningless, rough sex, but it's difficult for him to be slower, gentler, to stay present when he's actually making love and not just fucking. He tries, though, bless him.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying) Doggy. Like I said. Ass man. He will bend you over just about any surface if you let him.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.) He's pretty serious aside from the occasional snide remark. When he sets himself to a task he wants to carry it out as well as he can. This extends to fucking you silly.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.) He has a shortly cropped blond happy trail. I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect) He's... not great at intimacy, but he makes an effort, if he's having sex with someone he harbors an emotional connection with. His dirty talk is softer, he's a bit gentler, less rough around the edges.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon) He has a pretty high sex drive and usually masturbates just to sate it, rather than to sit down and enjoy himself. He rarely uses pornographic material, just fucks quickly into his hand replaying some memory.
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks) Exhibitionism, as mentioned. Pet play, d/s, anything with power and control dynamics essentially. He likes to be on both ends of the spectrum. Humiliation, degradation, etc. Again, giving and receiving. Body worship (on him, but he'll do it for you as well). Size kink. L = Location  Anywhere he can get away with it, really.
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going) He enjoys the concept of both dominance and exerting his will over you, and the release that comes from submitting to another person and allowing them to take the reigns. He really just teters back and forth between the two depending on his his self esteem is doing that day.
N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs) Simon Riley will not fuck you if you're even a bit tipsy or inebriated. Hard no.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.) This man loves to eat ass. He also loves to shove his dick as far down your throat as he can and hold you there until you're bucking against him for air.
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.) Rough, though not necessarily fast. If he's feeling particularly worked up or mean sex can definitely turn into an endurance test he knows you'll lose. Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.) Simon wants to fuck you as often as he can, whenever he can, wherever he can. On a roadtrip? His hand is down your pants while he drives. Doing laundry? Lifting you up onto the dryer. In the hallway? Broom closet looks very inviting, wouldn't you say?
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.) He's open to a fair amount of things, if not out of interest, just to try them and know whether or not it does anything for him. S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?) He's a military man. He's extremely physically fit. If you let him, he'll fuck you until he physically can't anymore. Regardless of how quickly he might cum. He'll just use his fingers or his mouth until he's hard again.
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?) He'll never admit it, but he does get jealous of inanimate objects for making you cum. Why not him? He can do it ten times better and faster. Watch.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease) Don't edge him, it won't work. He's bigger, stronger, and has more stamina than you, and he's stubborn as hell. You, though? If you let him, he'll make you beg for it. He'll edge you until you cry. He's also prone to trying to fluster you whenever he can, especially in front of other people, grabbing your hips to move you aside, brushing against your ass when he passes you in a tight space, things like that.
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.) He's fairly quiet, especially if he's subbing. He'll groan, but it will be rare. He does enjoy a fair bit of dirty talk though. W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character) Wants to fuck his cum into you and then force you to walk around base leaking into your underwear. :-)
X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes) Here to preach Chunky Simon RIley gospel. He has abs but they're under a layer of fat on his tummy. You can't see them unless he flexes. He has fat fucking tits. Big enough to grope. Has a pudgy little pubic mound. His arms and thighs are fucking huge. Big fat breeder balls. Has a light dusting of hair on his chest, and is fuzzy from the waist down.
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?) High, man.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards) You will never catch Ghost sleeping after fucking you. He barely sleeps as it is. He'll just sit with you until you're asleep or ready to do something else.
GAZ.
Aftercare = (what they’re like after sex) He needs it. He's a sensitive boy, honestly, and if you just up and leave after having sex it's definitely going to hurt his feelings. He wants to pepper kisses all over you and snuggle. And maybe grind on you a little bit while doing so.
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s) Gaz has nice, dexterous hands that can and will pull amazing sounds out of you when he's playing with you. This man fingers like no one's business. He's fairly attentive and will catch any noises or expressions you make while he's learning what you like, so he can do it more efficiently next time. He likes to watch your face when he fucks you, or when you fuck him. Your expressions do a lot for him.
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically) He wants to come on your face. He'll beg for it, even. He wants to mark you anywhere, coming on your ass, your tits, your tummy, but your face is his go-to spot.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs) He's thought about stealing your underwear from the laundry room on base, when you leave it out. He wouldn't. Especially if you're not dating. It's just a thought. But he… looks. For a while. Especially if it's some lacy thing. Thinks about holding it in his hand while he's fucking his fist. Then goes about his day, chiding himself a bit.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?) Mildly? I feel like Gaz maybe got around when he was younger but has kind of slowed down, and he's even a bit ashamed of his fuckboy phase. He's seeking more of an emotional connection now instead of flings.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying) Facefucking is high up there. He also likes missionary so he can watch your expression change into something fuzzy and fucked-out.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.) He's definitely always smiling when he fucks you, right up until he's about to come. Whether or not it's a smirk or a goofy grin depends on what you're doing and the mood. He'll also tease and rib you lightly, especially if you're babbling nonsense after he's pushed you particularly hard and made you come several times.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.) I headcanon Gaz as being fairly smooth? I honestly don't know why.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect) Gaz is sweet. He's one to break out pet names, compliments, occasionally praise; I don't think he has a lot of casual sex, so making love is more of a common occurrence than just fucking.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon) Gaz definitely has a folder on his phone of dirty pictures of his S/O that he pulls up when he's getting off. He prefers sex, but will look at images of you if you're not accessible at the moment. He'll send you images of him fucking his hand, sound clips if he's feeling particularly devious. If you let him take videos of you giving head or fucking him for use while he's away, he'll be very, very grateful.
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks) Marking (with cum, but he'll leave hickies as well). Overstim. He likes to fuck you until you're unintelligible, then keep going beyond that, if you'll let him. Grinding / outercourse / thigh fucking. Service domming.
L = Location  He's not too adventurous, anywhere private.
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going) Gaz just wants to make you feel good, honestly. You getting off gets him off.
N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs) Getting super rough, mean, or degrading doesn't do anything for him. Not only is he disinterested in it, it's counterproductive to what actually gives him pleasure, even if you ask for it.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.) Gaz loves eat out for dinner :-) He'll keep going until you're squirming away from him and begging him to give you a break. Tonguefucking is a favorite. He likes fucking your face, making it sloppy and watching the drool run down your chin onto your chest. Bonus points if you wear makeup and he gets to ruin it. Bonus bonus points if you have to walk somewhere with that ruined makeup.
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.) It depends on his mood; he's normally pretty slow in the interest of being thorough and making you come as hard as you can, as many times as he can make you.
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.) He's indifferent to it. It doesn't give him as much time as he'd like to unravel you, but if you propose it he's certainly not going to turn you down.
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.) Gaz is fairly open to trying new things, but if it skeeves him out even a little bit he's unwilling to try it.
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?) Multiple rounds are a given fucking this man. He wants you fucked stupid. He wants you braindead and drooling. He wants you unintelligible on his dick. He will buy a cock ring for the sole purpose of fucking you longer so he can watch your eyes roll back and jaw go slack as you come for the umpteenth time.
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?) Gaz is fairly open to using toys; again, big fan of service domming, so he enjoys doing whatever he can to make you feel good. He would also enjoy leaving something inside of you while you run errands or do chores, just as a way to mark you, claim you without actually touching you.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease) He's not a super big fan of it; why edge you when he can make you come, and then make you come again? He doesn't hold out well if you tease him, either. The moment you flirt with him, brush up against him or make a suggestive statement, he's ready to go.
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.) Gaz is very vocal, and he's not shy about it either. He's a whiner, making high pitched breathy sounds, and he's also prone to babbling in your ear when he's close to coming; "Hot, wet, tight, so good for me baby."
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character) Crier. Not in an emotional sense, but if he comes particularly hard he's thanking you and tears are rolling down his face.
X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes) This man is cut. He has the "otter" build, slim, lean and strong. Veiny arms. Definitely has abs. Cum gutters. His dick is long and curved upward. Average thickness. His balls hang. Good for slapping against your clit when he fucks you from behind.
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?) Gaz wants to fuck, man. Not so much that it's a constant thought of his, but he's easily swayed into being in the mood.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards) Sex doesn't knock him out, but he'll fall asleep cuddling you afterwards. (He talks in his sleep.)

Nikolai Gogol x Autistic Reader
(Because I haven’t been able to find any goddammit)
(Also I’ll be going off of my own autistic traits/experiences)
Warning: this is Nikolai, so expect gore, violence, and morbid thoughts
I feel like Nikolai wouldn’t really know much about autism or being neurodivergent. He’ll prbly go to Fyodor to learn more.
But he does know that you have certain interests, traits, dislikes, and ways of seeing things and thinking that differs from the most other people.
He loves that about you!
He likes to watch you stim and finds it funny and cute.
He’ll then join in cause it looks like fun!
Considering he already moves around a lot whenever he’s excited, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out he’s also on the spectrum.
Nikolai values freedom from physical/human constraints. So I feel like he might pity you for your aversions to certain textures, smells, foods, etc.
He can’t imagine how hellish it must be to imprisoned by all these overbearing stimulations.
If only he could shed you of your human body so that you can finally be free from all it all!
He’ll be more upset when he hears about any past negative experiences you may have had with ableist people and societal expectations.
Nikolai HATES being forced to conform!!! How dare they try to snap your wings!!
He’ll prbly teleport off somewhere to go torture/kill some random unlucky person to let out his anger.
Will casually describe his recent killings and tortures of his targets in the DOA to you with his upbeat demeanor. He might even show you pictures!
“This one’s one of my favorites!!! It almost looks like spaghetti noodles, doesn’t it?!”
It’s a picture of a government official having his brain pulled out through his nose.
If it makes you uncomfortable, he’d prbly find your discomfort odd but stop.
Since you tell him a lot about your hyperfixations and special interests, he likes to describe his disturbing knowledge on the human body and all the creative ways to kill and harm them.
Man will randomly bite you like a dog. Have you seen those teeth?
Nikolai would definitely pick you up and toss you around in and out of his cape portal like a toy, if you happen to be short.
Hell, he’ll do it regardless of your height. He’s already taller than everyone.
Sure, you can touch his hair! Just don’t pull or he’ll bite your fingers off, hehehe!!
………………….
When your having a sensory overload/panic attack, he’ll immediately notice and teleport you both out of there to a much quieter place.
Nikolai means well and does like you, but he’s also a rather twisted clown who likes engaging in dangerous “games”
“Hey y/n!!! Wanna play this quiz where every time you lose, you have to stick a needle under a toenail?!”
“What?! You don’t?! That’s too bad! Aw well, maybe next time!”
Nikolai holds a deep resentment towards you for tying him down with human emotions and desires (love, patience, etc) and wants to kill you so that he can free himself.
There have been numerous times where he almost goes through with killing you in some brutal way. Yet he always stops at the very last moment since he can’t bring himself to do it.
Random headcanon: Nikolai would be a huge fan of the Saw and Terrifier movies

Especially after a very big trauma or repeating ones for which we are not responsible (that may have occurred in our childhood), it may happen that we start developing a victim mentality (which has nothing to do with victimism or playing the victim, but it's a clinical condition) as a coping mechanism. For example:
-We may think others are the cause for everything negative in our life without realizing we're avoiding taking responsibility for our own actions and decisions (our mental pattern may be so rooted in us that we don't realize we have another choice but we keep ourselves stuck in a certain place; we blame others also for things we decide to do to ourselves as we just got used to our life being that way).
-We may also often believe others are there just to hurt us, even in those situations when that's not their intention: especially if we have been treated in a certain confusing/hurtful way (and we're already stressed by other events), we may tend to misinterpret them and their words/actions more easily and let anger and resentment born in our past fog our mind.
-We may also tend to believe others have it easier, and give up on everything without trying cause "I'll fail anyway" or "it's impossible for me"; we may also get relieved after receiving self-pity and sympathy from others.
There can be other behaviours or types of thoughts that may occasionally originate from what we had to deal with and that can be connected with the huge spectrum of the victim mentality, like for example: feeling undeserving and unworthy, guilty and shameful (since the way we were treated); avoiding taking risks; loss of control; feeling passive, pessimistic, generally powerless and helpless but not deciding to understand the cause of those feelings; being hypervigilant around others, overly self-defensive and self-absorbed or entitled (despite being deeply insecure); seeing people and actions/values as good or bad and no-in-between; lacking empathy; needing recognition and validation; feeling morally superior and wrongly persecuted by threatening unmoral people; ruminating over situations and their causes rather than finding solutions.
This is even more true if we feel like we haven't grown or changed, nor gained power or resources from the time in which we happened to experience that deep trauma. But we did. We just cannot see it for various reasons (generally our mind is trying to keep us "safe"). Try to remind yourself that you are in control of your own life, and that you can make different decisions and that you will be safe. You can get out of that hurtful place (at least mentally), whenever you decide it's okay to and in whatever way. Ask for help, talk about your problems with others. Remember you can say no, you can have boundaries, you can start taking responsibility for your life and you don't have to be successful at the first try. Don't give up, even on days when it feels like your mind is right: it may be, but remember to be grounded and objective. Keep questioning its reasons, get to the root cause and slowly try to get out of there. It's okay and it will be okay.

Does Ronin experience non-possessive switching or possessive switching?
Aight I wanna start of with saying that creating distinctions between these two types of dissociation is detrimental if not harmful. I can’t find a fully reliable source that discusses these terms* which is way I want to make that clear. What “possessive” vs. “non-possessive” is referring to is actually a full switch of identity vs. co-consciousness/passive influence.
When thinking about dissociation and switching you want to imagine it more like a spectrum rather than a hard cut. You can make huge leaps from one end of the spectrum to another, but it’s still on a scale. Also ; co-con and switching comes hand in hand with each other. Both of them are things that most or every system experiences to varying degrees.** So acting like one is distinct to a certain system is once again detrimental if not harmful.
Ok no onto answering the actual question which is: both ^_^ for everything I’ve described above pretty much.
*if someone can find a reliable source and send it to me that’d be cool
**some might be more prone to co-con or full switches, but that doesn’t mean they don’t experience both

Quoting an anon ask on the bylerconfessions antisex discourse blog:
"Ok, so I decided to bring a point of view that from what I've seen hasn't been brought up yet. The fandom has a lot of adults and we already know that. Some of these adults experienced adolescence in very complicated times, similar to the 80s. Let's not forget that even today in 2024 we have cities where being LGBT is still a huge problem. It wasn't easy for us to live our adolescence in such an environment and I'm sure many of us didn't have a good experience. So, some look for NSFW content related to Byler and not because they are fantasizing about them, but rather to see a better experience than the one they had or even in a more positive way with a ship that they really like and support. I believe there is no problem with this and it does not mean that the person has sexual desires for teenagers, as some people on the tag have said. I myself was the same age as them when I lost my virginity."
Yes!! But, this anon went on to say this:
"However, and here comes my other point, this doesn't mean there isn't a limit to it. Discussing fetishes openly, who has the bigger member between the two or other worse things that I've seen lately is really unnecessary. I've seen people saying that it's normal to talk about sex and I agree, but it's not like the topic is about problematizing sexual relationships between gays or something like that, or representation in the media, but really unnecessary things like "who gives the better handjob?" there is a limit and people are crossing it and using a shitty excuse."
and i couldn't help but agree.
'it's fine to project through fiction, but please don't use that as an excuse to make polls on "who's toes curl more" '
i love the freedom of this blog, but some stuff sadly slides into weirdness. someone should make a freakybylerpolls blog for the gratuitous stuff, and leave the pondering about actual possible healthy sex for byler in s5 to this one.
I understand this as a concept, but I think it would be strange for the fandom safe space for "spicy/problematic" questions to also become filtered and policed. I think it's a slippery slope and a very thin line when it comes to determining what falls into the category of okay and reasonable and what falls into the category of "too far." Especially if one blog is serving as the border control. Everyone has different tastes, everyone has different standards, everyone has different lines, and everyone has different comfort levels. And that's all okay!
I've received asks that are all over the spectrum. Some, like the "Who has more internalized homophobia?" question, aren't even spicy, and some are... um... very far on the other end of the spectrum. On my pinned post I do ask people to use discretion when submitting polls, but as a poll blog, I stay completely neutral. I'm not a preacher, I'm a messenger. I don't endorse or unendorse any specific question.
This blog is for fun! The purpose is for our fandom to explore the potentially taboo without shame. I get that not everyone may be comfortable with every poll even if they support the blog overall, but that's honestly what the "see results" button is for. If someone doesn't want to engage with a specific question, they can scroll past it or press that button to opt-out. Or if they're not feeling the blog as a whole, they can block the tag or block the account. No hard feelings!
Anti-censorship and freedom for all!

Hi! Recently, I decided to make one of my characters a trans woman? I always hear about how cis people shouldn’t write “stories ABOUT being trans” and whatnot due to not really getting the experience of it, but what if you’re a transmasc who’s writing a transfem? Is there still a point you’re not allowed to write beyond, since the experience isn’t exactly your own despite the overlap, or can you go all out since the base experiences are still there?
I consulted my partner on this who is a trans woman. (I am trans, but TME.)
While we are Community(TM), there are a lot of things that just don't translate 1:1 with our experiences. Transmisogyny affected/targeted people experience different rates of violence and experience that violence in slightly different contexts to us.
She suggested that it really depends on how in-depth you're planning to go. She said if you're just meeting the vagueries of the experience, it might be okay, but a deep dive probably wouldn't be, because you'd have a lot more room for error.
I feel like this question is really vague in that what writing "about" being some way even means. Like what are you including? What is the purpose and intended audience? Are you incorporating inspiration from real people you know and your community? Are you making a character based purely on what you understand about the experience, but aren't close enough to any TMA people you could ask? Are you trying to use the character to explain to cis people what being a trans woman is like, like some kind of lesson? Where are you getting the information on said lesson? Is this just a character living life? Are you going into oppression, medical stuff, community and culture? (If you talk about oppression, to what level have you done the work on learning what transmisogyny is, and reckoning with the way that all other identities being the same, we do have privileges over trans women, and that it's transmisogynist and a misinterpretation of socialization theories to claim anyone is "socialized male"?) What is your view of trans women, as individuals and as part of our community? What is your actual plot and how does the character's identity as a trans woman come into it? What is the actual load of what you're taking on here, and are you willing to take responsibility and do the work for every aspect of it?
I think there's a lot of aspects to this that exist on a huge spectrum and your mileage may vary significantly with this. The tried and true advice of 'when in doubt, consult a sensitivity reader' rings true here.
She has said it comes down to whether you can write it credibly, rather than necessarily realistically. And that comes down to sensitivity readers. Being able to write about it convincingly will depend on how much help you get and how in depth you go really.

This is just straight up Syscourse so Ignore it if you like
But XIV and I were talking on it on the way back from work and at the risk of regretting it, I want to express a thing I don't get about common anti-endo rhetoric - as someone who was anti-endo and is now either neutral or pro-endo depending on how you perceive our lack of interest in the endo-community
This is gonna be rambly and isn't meant to be an ARGUMENT nor a "good one" or anything, just some thoughts on the topic
But whenever we talk about "can you be a system without having trauma" a really common line of thought, reasoning and rhetoric for "no" is that "DID is a DISSOCIATIVE disorder characterized by DISSOCIATION and TRAUMA you can't have a complex dissociative disorder without trauma" which is true and fair
But the thing that confuses me is that those people are often the same people that say that DID is not "an alter disorder" but the second we are talking about the SUBJECTIVE experience of being multiple people, suddenly all of those experiences are definitive, exclusive, and characteristic to DID and other CDDs.d
If we were saying "can you have DID without trauma" my response would be PROBABLY no as its unlikely that you would have that complex and extreme dissociation without notable trauma - that being said I retain 'probably' because 1) lack of evidence to completely rule out every other possibility 2) that there are disorders that can have dissociation without trauma so it isn't completely out of the question that theoretically one MIGHT be able to get bad enough without explicit trauma 3) the concept of DID and general diagnostic criteria in any categorical classification of a psychological phenomenon is going to be inherently flawed as psychology and psychological phenomenon have historically been shown to be in a spectrum and best represented by a dynamic connection of traits and symptoms rather than boxes and thus the very idea of what DID is - much like most disorders - is honestly kind of silly to sit and defend when what actually matters is the individual symptomology (I probably won't elaborate on the third cause that's too much work and I'd need to make references to do it properly so believe me or not on that last one, understand it or not, I don't really care its not the point) 4) I don't really like using absolutes cause it makes me feel a little silly acting like I - or anyone else - knows anything that well
But like... DID isn't an alter disorder. Alter's aren't the heart of the disorder - its trauma, its dissociation, its the COMPLEX dissociation that causes the presentation of alters, but its not like... THE Alter Disorder. Alters are a by product, not the disorder.
So why is it when we talk about the experience of being multiple people or multiple parts or whatever is it that we have to claim that ONLY DID is the ONLY way people can experience that?
Yeah I guess there's the whole "We cant use the same terms!!!" and that there are people who claim you can have DID without trauma which is a different topic that I have no interest in sweating cause I think its not my business so long as dangerous misinformation isn't being spread
But like really, a lot of spiritual practices, general experiences, and what not have historically presented with people having the subjective experience of being different / multiple people and that doesn't invalidate DID really at all?
They are two separate things and there's nuance when it comes to the specifics but I just really don't see why we need to be at each other's throats over someone trying to express what they are experiencing.
I dunno, I just don't think the experience of identifying and interacting with yourself like you are multiple people or made up of parts or anything like that is really all that a unique and special thing that is exclusive to DID and also like, if people can choose to not fuse and to be cool with functional multiplicity, then whats the huge deal with choosing to live life interacting with yourself as many. Plus there's IFS and a number of spiritual practices that honestly I think would probably be problematic if we said were "not allowed because you cant experience that without trauma" and what not.
As a system and person with DID that doesn't really identify with having alters as a core part of the disorder, I just find it a bit weird that when it comes to people identifying as multiple people... all of the sudden DID is all we talk about?
I'm of the opinion live and let be. If someone's being toxic, weird, or problematic or making you uncomfortable, that's a different story and a case by case thing indicative of the INDIVIDUAL but like.... ya know? nothings inherently wrong with living operating with yourself as multiple people. There's honestly some theraputic merit to the mindset considering IFS is pretty regularly used which - even if it is more of a framework - does invite the person to understand themselves as the parts that make up their whole.
So like.... I dunno man.
If some endos are "cringe" and that makes people with DID look bad or whatever, then like... so what. I dunno we appreciate cringe as a confident and dedicated expression of ones self despite societal backlash and welcome cringe in our life + we identify as pretty cringey ourselves so... I dunno maybe we should walk out of the DID community to make people take it seriously or something??? (rhetorical, joking)
TLDR: As an ex-anti-endo, I just really don't understand what the whole hub ubb and fixation with endos that the DID community has
-----
ALSO this does not apply to people who use the word "Tulpa" but have done 0 engagement with Buddhist practices and culture.
Yall are never welcome on this blog.

This is coming from a place of pure curiosity absolutely devoid of malice: Could you please explain what an mspec lesbian is? Are you using lesbian in the same way the word sapphic might be used or is it a whole different thing? /gen, nm
ive gone into it a lot more on my @bi-lesbian blog! mspec lesbian doesnt really have One Definition or a single use, because people can use it in a variety of ways!
in short, mspec lesbian basically means "i love/am attracted to women. this is not the only aspect of my orientation, but its a predominant part i want to focus on in my identity." (with the love/attraction being whatever form the person may experience, sexual, romantic, etc)
for me im entirely asexual, but for romantic attraction im moreso on the aro-spectrum. as such, this muddles up my experience with attraction in general, esp since im cupioromantic (aro that wants a romantic relationship) and i believe most of my attraction is actually just aesthetic attraction rather than actual romantic. its just. a murky mess! but it doesnt really matter too much for me to figure out all the specifics. i like introspecting on my identity, but if i find some things are just too *wiggly hand gesture* in its exact details, thats fine with me.
so, as a bi lesbian i know im for sure attracted to girls, and certainly like my fellow enbies, then for guys its more like. once in a blue moon? attraction is quite rare for me to begin with outside of fictional characters, so the probability of me actually wanting to date a guy is extremely low, but not zero, hence why id like to state that my identity is more "in between" labels, rather than one or the other.
this isnt the only reason why i use the label, but im too sleepy rn to do a full explanation of all my complex feelings rn lol
+ lesbian has historically been an umbrella term and the push against that has been predominantly by political lesbians (aka radfems) with a shit ton of biphobic rhetoric (which ive also gone into on my bi-lesbian blog)
And mspec means multi-spectrum attraction (attraction to 2 or more genders), which would by definition describe lesbians who like both women and enbies (nb alone encompasses a huge range of genders). some people like using both labels as both describe them. (but some prefer just lesbian, its all up to personal taste)

[Image: Sketches of the Chief in various stages of transformation. The leftmost is Chief at rest; she’s a brick wall of a woman with broad shoulders, unusually long, black hair, and an armored prosthetic arm.
The middle sketch is a transition state between her human form and monster-y form. She becomes even taller and more top-heavy, with longer arms and digitigrade feet. She also gets pretty fuzzy—her hair becomes long and moppy, trailing down her back to the beginnings of a stumpy tail. Body hair grows into full-on fur on her arms and legs, and nails grow into talons on her right arm. Her face is masked by a gas mask, which looks a little bit more like a muzzle, right now.
The rightmost is a fully monstered-out Chief. She has something like a full-body horse’s mane now, with hair growing in a continuous line from her scalp to her spine to the tip of her large, possum-like tail, which is unfurred on the underside. The tail counterbalances her extremely top-heavy frame and huge claws. Her face is shown in this drawing. It’s hard to pin down, like a human head stretched out into a muzzle, with a sort of gorgonopsid-lookin’ puppy mouth. Her eyes are shadowed by her long hair, with only her pupils visible as two white dots.]
EauuuuauaauUUuauuuu I’m out of control. Realized I’ve drawn a lot of chiefs, but only like two chiefs in crittermode. So, this is that.
I don’t know that I have a lot to say about it….?! I guess there’s mechanics. She can go back and forth between shapes, and can middle anywhere on the spectrum rather than just one end or the other. Emotions are a big factor in triggering the change—namely ones that she never had the chance to experience or regulate in their most extreme forms, like fear and joy (the ‘perks’ of being a genetically-engineered supersoldier.) It becomes increasingly difficult to talk the more changed she gets, but she picks up a form of sign language from the R.A. that she uses while shifted.
I don’t know what the situation on clothes is (i.e. whether they are assimilated or annihilated in the act of changing) and I’m trying not to worry about it. What’s worse? chewing through new shirts every other week or       flesh clothes
Not shown are the neural cables that attach to the ports on her spine and neck, which become appropriated into extra appendages when they fill with tendon and muscle and stuff. Flesh tubes. Don’t think about it too hard.

what would partial demedicalization of plurality look like?
right now, multiplicity in society is heavily medicalized, with did (and perhaps osdd) being the only forms of plurality widely discussed and sensationalized in media. we have yet to see a single piece of media that portrays plurality without did (unless you count stories of supernatural possession). as a pro endo system, we advocate for the partial, not full, demedicalization of plurality. not all systems will require medical care in order to take care of themselves, and demedicalization will allow for these people to live their authentic lives without feeling pressured to pursue medical treatment or diagnoses they don’t need.
so what would it look like if plurality was partially demedicalized?
for starters, those with dissociative disorders or systems who struggle with daily life would still be able to access the medical care and attention they need. we’d like to point out that it is already quite challenging for disordered systems to get access to the care they need. in fact, partial demedicalization may make it easier for disordered systems to access the care they need, as multiplicity becomes less stigmatized in the societal lens.
this brings us to our next point - destigmatization. as plurality becomes more widely understood as something regular people can experience, as something that can happen without trauma or a dissociative disorder as a prerequisite, it is possible that negative social stigma surrounding multiplicity may lessen as a result. of course, a huge part of destigmatization is education - there needs to be more awareness of plurality outside did and the medical field.
we firmly believe that spectrum language will be the best way to refer to multiplicity in the future. like autism, adhd, and other neurodivergencies, plurality is a spectrum, and systems may exist anywhere on it (with singlets on one side and infinite/polyfragmented systems on the other). a partial demedicalization of plurality will allow nondisordered systems to speak up about their experiences, while allowing them to seek out support.
what would support for nondisordered plurals look like?
it could take lots of forms, many of which would be beneficial to disordered systems as well! here are a few examples:
groups or meetups for systems both in real life and online through sites like zoom and skype
information sessions and events that aim to educate/spread awareness about the plural spectrum
mentorship or peer support programs that are designed by plurals for plurals
more grants/funding allocated for plural research (with a focus on the wide scope of multiplicity rather than DID specifically)
representation for plurals of all sorts in media, be it books, movies, TV shows, video games, or anything else!
and so much more! systems can get creative when figuring out what kinds of support they need, as long as they are vocal in their attempts to advocate for themselves and systems like them.
as we’ve said before on this blog (and likely will say again), most pro endos do not believe in the complete demedicalization of plurality. if we strive towards a common goal of destigmatization and support for all systems, we can maybe reach a place where all systems feel like they are able to receive the support and care they need, while feeling safe and comfortable enough to live their lives genuinely and authentically!
anyway that’s all we want to say here - sorry if this was a bit long winded! we’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on the demedicalization of plurality and how we can strive for destigmatization while increasing access to support for both disordered and nondisordered systems! thanks for reading :)

Note
canonically, how are each member of the batfam these days? I don't keep up with the comics because it's a mess and the characterization varies so much (especially Dami)
As of 8/2/2022
(spoilers ahead)
Bruce, Dick, Tim, Steph, Cass, Duke, Babs, and Selina all appeared in Batman #126, which just came out today. So far the storyline about piecing together the Penguin's lineage, including an introduction to two new members of the Cobblepot family. This specific issue did a good job of showcasing how the batfamily works together in an intense fight against Failsafe, however, the battle takes up a large chunk of the story—I give that part a 7/10 because Failsafe wasn't exactly the most compelling antagonist and the fight was a bit out of the blue. The focus also did lean more heavily on Dick than the other batkids. However, Selina's concurrent story with piecing together the Penguin's family made up for that as we uncover a new dimension to a long-time Batman villain. The expected release date for the next issue is September 6th, so hopefully they can clean it up a little then.
Jason appeared in Task Force Z #10 on July 26th. Jason and what remains of the team after the previous 9 issues are investigating Power Industries, where in a HUGE twist, they discover that Bane was Nobody the entire time (yes, the Nobody). The artwork fits the tone of the story and Jason's characterization has been pretty good, sort of on par with Urban Legends. I thought this was gonna be a filler issue so I was pleasantly surprised when they just jumped right into the main point. Also, I love seeing Jason's dynamic with Amanda Waller and other villains because it reinforces the fact that he's not 100% good or bad (as fandom likes to polarize him as)—he's versatile and can get along with people all over the moral spectrum. The projected release date for the next issue is 8/23.
Meanwhile, Damian's latest appearance was in Robin #16, which came out on July 26th, where Lord Death Man (yes, that weirdo) puts Damian's investigation into the Lazarus Island on pause. Flatline then calls Damian and Connor Hawke to Tokyo to deal with Lord Death Man, so we get a bit of international traveling bits. Mara Al Ghul and the Batman of Japan also appear in this, if you wanna count them as batfam? I like that this balances the sharper edges of Damian's personality with the classic Robin charm and I do kind of wish the series wasn't ending (alas, DC won't allow its characters to grow up). I also like that the setting of this story influences the artwork—you can see the subtle manga influences. Next issue comes out on 8/23. Overall I give this run an 8/10 because it explores a new, slightly more mature version of Damian's character, but I'm taking two points off because Lord Death Man annoys me to no end.
We see Alfred in Batman: One Dark Knight #3, which came out on 7/26. The story is a simplistic mini-run with good art as Batman nears the end of his journey to Blackgate. I like that this story takes place over a single night rather than stretched over a few days/weeks/etc. like we normally see—it's almost like Batman's typical Tuesday night. Alfred is still alive here, so it's nice to hear his sarcastic sense of humor after missing him for so long—it's sort of like seeing a family member at the airport. This comic also establishes him as DC's best trash-talker in his classic Alfred Pennyworth style. If I recall the miniseries is done, but the hardcover comes out on 9/13.
Luke Fox makes a cameo in Harley Quinn #18. Yes, that came out today too (#19 comes out on the 9th). Apparently the JLA left some old science experiments on their moon base so Luke puts together a team of former villains to... send them to the moon and clean it up (including Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Bronze Tiger, and Killer Frost). I just read it and I'm too confused to actually criticize at the moment. First, I think Task Force XX is a dumb name—it sounds like an account on an adult website. Second, I think the artwork is alright in that you have all these bright, poppy designs, but the bodies and expressions feel kinda stiff and off-putting. I think it has potential to be one of the more absurd, fun, campy storylines, so I'll hold out and see where this goes.
An alternate-universe Thomas Wayne closes in on the Clockwork Killer in Flashpoint Beyond #4, which also came out today. However, Dexter Dent gets in the way with his own mission to break his mother out of Arkham. I already had skepticism about Flashpoint Beyond because I tend to be skeptical about a lot of alternate timelines and was never the biggest fan of Thomas Wayne as Batman or Martha as the Joker. I don't know if I should be happy or not that they proved me right, because this run has been moving a bit slowly—it feels like they're dragging what could be summarized in 4 sentence out to 32 pages. Overall I'd say it's a 4/10 (since the artwork isn't too shabby). Again, I'm biased because I never liked the Thomas Wayne concept in the first place so take it with a pinch of salt. Next issue also comes out 9/6.

Hiii, I'd like to request a match up !!
First of all, sorry if it's written weird, English is not my first language and I'm in need of a few days of sleep lmao :') also this is very long because I have no idea how to write concisely to save my life, so, sorry for your eyes? brain? Idk but sorry
1 - I'm AFAB genderqueer, might be a demigirl ? idk gender is confusing. anyways, I use any pronouns because I'm extra like that lmao, and I prefer my sexuality to stay unlabelled for now
2 - Papas !! (they're so silly I love them)
3 - I'm rather small (163cm/5'4") and kinda pudgy. I would not say I'm plus size but I'm definitely thicker than average, especially around my hips and thighs (stretch marks n cellulite gang WYA). I used to be very insecure about it but thankfully I got better at loving myself (still working on it but I'll get there eventually). I'm also getting a tattoo on my upper left arm very soon (inspired by Kafka's Metamorphosis because yes) and hopefully some more piercings (I only have triple lobe for now). my hair's light brown and very short, I buzzed it back in August and I'm growing it out. Yes, I do have a terrible case of bed head. I also trim my eyebrows to be very short, makes it easier to do my makeup. Almost forgot to talk about my eyes, but basically they're blue-ish green and usually overshadowed by the huge dark circles I have. I don't dress according to one particular style, although I enjoy being in full goth fashion, makeup and all. I would probably describe my style by 'satanic grandma' because as much as I love my band shirts and inverted crosses, I also cannot live without my extensive collection of grandpa sweaters and ugly ties.
4 - I'm an introvert - and an awkward anxious ball of nerves at that, but I don't mind stepping up to the task in social situations if the people I'm with are not comfortable ordering food/asking a question. I usually am very cautious of how I act with new people I meet as I am autistic and don't want to 'scare them off' or make them uncomfortable. However, if we vibe, you get to know the still anxious but also very silly me. I especially love coming across other people that are on the spectrum, because we usually have a certain understanding of each other's way of acting and just be silly together. Speaking from experience with my closest friends, at least (not generalizing autistic people !!).
5 - I've been hyperfixating on Ghost for a good while now, but apart from that I'm very much interested in art. Learning about it of course, but also making it (I'm in art prep class rn and it's kicking my ass, send help). Drawing, writing, taking photos, making zines and stuff... hopefully after prep class I can get into a proper art school and study illustration, and maybe look into becoming a graphic novel author. My favorite artists would probably be Dora Maar, Gustave Doré and Gustav Klimt tbh. I also have an interest in geopolitics and history, especially in the Middle Ages' witch hunts and black death, but also in more recent topics such as the satanic panic. Basically all things occult and satanic. I also love internet horror media such as ARGs, like My house.wad or the Hypnagogic Archive. Music taste wise, I listen to everything, but my favorite genres are hard rock and metal. I'd say my all time fav artists are Ghost, Slayer (South of Heaven walked so that Year Zero could run, change my mind), Iron Maiden, SOAD, Twin Temple, Radiohead, alex g and Mitski.
6 - I'm a huge cat person but I also very much love crows and rats and reptiles and overall all the animals that would seem weird to keep as pets. Also I love love LOVE having deep conversations about complicated philosophical topics at night in a calm spot at a party or smth, specifically while drinking off-brand soda. Idk why I included this, I just thought of it and I'm too tired to question how my sleep deprived brain thinks right now.
Sorry again for the huge wall of text, y'all are the best !
Have a good day/night !!

He's all for helping you love yourself, he'll kiss any part of your body you are insecure about and everyday he tells you how amazing you look. The thing that really makes it work is that he means it, you can see the sincerity in his expression.
He can also be an awkward anxious bundle of nerves. But what is so cute is that both of you try and step up for the other in social situations. You see Papa Emeritus IV come out a lot at those times.
You vibed immediatly with him it was just an instant connection. He just got you, and you him. He treasures that so much.
He will help all he can with your art class prep. Like whatever you need. If you want him to just keep you company he's there, if you need models he'll get his rats to pose with him (it's just adorable). Or if you need to work super hard he'll bring you food and drinks to keep you going.
Sometimes he joins you but drawing isn't his strongest skill so it's a good giggle, he can laugh at his mistakes and he enjoys seeing you smile at them. Other times he'll sit and write songs as you work, he wrote one about you just the other day.
He got so excited when he found out you had an interest in the middle ages, witch hunts and black death. He literally squeaked with joy and you discussed it long into the night, while drinking lots of off-brand soda.
He also finds some really cool books for you to read from the clergy library, occult, satanic panic and so on, it's all there.

Sometimes I'm on here (here being the kpop real person smut writing scene) and just.... the amount of thought policing, moral policing and whatever the fuck other moral posturing and hypocrisy is just fucking heavy.
Look, there's no way you can't justify YOUR particular way of sexualising kpop idols as more "right" than someone else's and still claim freedom of expression and creativity. People are horny, people write and read all kinds of genres of smut for all kinds of purposes. Some do it as mental gymnastics, others as a creative challenge, others as a way of exploring their own sexuality and dealing with sexual traumas, some just as a horny outlet. At the end of the day, we are all writing and reading FICTION. We do not personally know the idols we write about and 99.9% of us never will. What we do is no different than the endless amounts of chatter and imaginary thought vomit about various western celebrities on twitter or whatever. It's a hive mind of opinions, fantasies, observations and wishful thinking.
Then there are the facts of the kpop smut writer hive mind, such as that the vast majority of writers are either female or non-binary and represent a vast spectrum of neurodiverse and mental health conditions as well. The role of culture differences in beliefs about sexuality and sexual behaviour is also vast and hugely important. These types of creative communities have been surviving sexism, ageism, discrimination, kink shaming, erasure and creative stifling and undervaluing for decades, and I would never be so arrogant as to say that I know what's "right" to write about and what is not, and judge people for what they choose to write simply because I personally don't like it.
Personally I don't like pregnancy fics, they give me a bit of ick. I also don't enjoy ones to do with having kids, weddings and marriage. Is it because I personally don't want to be married or have children? Actually no, I want both! I just have other preferences in the sort of fics I read. Do I go around blocking, shit talking and witch hunting the authors who post those type of fics? No. Why? Well, because while I understand the concept of curating what I see online, I can also consider the fact that some day one of those fics might pop up on my dash that intrigues me and that I end up loving, and if I've put myself in a bubble where that whole genre is erased from my online experience I will never have that chance. Also because I've gone through so many phases as a reader and writer myself, and I understand that my preferences and that of the readership may change with time. And this has happened with like half a dozen kinks for me, like when I first saw or heard of them I was somewhat repulsed or turned off, but after either learning more about it or having an IRL experience with it I've come to enjoy it and changed my mind. I mean come on, when you think about even something like anal sex too hard you can gross yourself out, and in some countries around the world it is illegal, but humans have been doing it from before we created writing.
Please be a little more open minded and curious rather than judgmental. And don't kink shame.

Fanzine Friday #6: Deafula nos. 1-2, 4-5 (2010-2013) by Kerri Radley
Deafula is about Kerri's experience as a Deaf person in a hearing world, focusing on education and resources for both hearing and Deaf individuals. We have four issues of Deafula, covering topics:
Introduction to Kerri and Deafness
Insurance coverage (or the lack therof)
Employment issues

Featured here are select pages from issue no. 1 that discuss deafness and Deaf culture. Transcripts are below the read more.
The Browne Popular Culture Library (BPCL), founded in 1969, is the most comprehensive archive of its kind in the United States.  Our focus and mission is to acquire and preserve research materials on American Popular Culture (post 1876) for curricular and research use. Visit our website at https://www.bgsu.edu/library/pcl.html.
Transcript for pages 1-2:
I'm a twenty eight year old lady who lives in philly with a dog and a cat and I like to do fun stuff like read and go to shows and back and ride bikes and paint and I go to grad school at penn.
And, I'm deaf.
I was born with some minimal hearing loss, and no one knows where it came from. Probably not my genes, as everyone in my family is hearing, except my older brother also had a little bit of hearing loss at birth. He wore hearing aids for a short while but hated them, and now he doesn't and he is pretty normal and talks on the phone and whispers and does normal hearing people type things.
But me, when I was five years old, I contracted scarlet fever. And now I'm deaf.
[next page]
Hearing loss can occur in your outer, middle, or inner ear, for a large variety of reasons at any stage in life. Sensorineural hearing loss occurs in the middle ear, and can be due to exposure to toxic chemicals in the womb, structural abnormalities, certain antibiotics, or infections life the mumps, meningitis or my most beloved, scarlet fever. This is what I have. There is no "cure." Some people with this loss benefit from hearing aids or cochlear implants, some don't. How much hearing loss occurs is specific to each case.
Sensorineural hearing loss from an infection can occur at pretty much any stage of life, though it occurs mostly in childhood. Still, exactly when in a child's life the damage occurs can have huge ramifications. I was luck (and lucky feels like a weird way to put it, even) to contract scarlet fever when I did, because by then I had already acquired my first language, English.
Transcript for pages 7-8:
Not only is deafness a spectrum in the "medical" aspect, or level / type of loss, and in the communication aspect -- it's also a spectrum culturally. Deafness is a free standing and respected culture. This might seem weird to hearing people who think of being deaf as nothing more than a disability, but it truly exists as a community with a cultural identity. The Deaf culture has its own language (ASL), its own norms and values, its own idioms and jokes, and within it deafness is not seen as a "disability," but rather as a common attribute shared by its members to be celebrated and nurtured. Culturally deaf people don't see deafness as a detriment -- why would they when there is a large, rich, vibrant culture with an accepting community surrounding it?
Of course, where culture and identity concerned, the [next page] dividing lines get a little blurry and debatable. I can't
even speak from a position
of authority about this, as I
grew up a lone deaf girl in a hearing
world, only to be
immersed in the Deaf community later in life. In an
attempt to explain cultural deafness, though, I'll try to define the difference between little d-deaf, and capital-D Deaf. Most deaf people differentiate between the two: deaf people regard themselves as people with disabilities, and do not identify with deaf culture. They may or may not use ASL, they might not think deafness has cultural validity, they might be strongly immersed in hearing culture. Deaf people (capital D) regard themselves as members of the deaf culture and take pride in their Deaf identity. They probably use ASL as their main form of communication, are informed about their culture, and don't regard themselves as being disabled. Some people who are even hearing, but CODA (children of deaf adults) consider themselves culturally Deaf -- they can hear and speak, but they are fluent in ASL and strongly immersed and active in deaf culture.
Transcript for page 14:
What do to if you encounter a deafie in the wild!
Okay, so you're at a party or at someone's house or something, and you realize there's a deaf person there. Don't panic! As long as you remember some basic guidelines for communicating with her, you'll be on your way to having a deaf friend in no time.
Don't make assumptions about how they can communicate!
Transcript for page 18:
3. Do your part to include them
in the conversation!
This means the world to deaf people in social situations, really. If you have to keep asking people to
repeat what they said, or clue you in on what's going on, you can start to feel like an annoying pest and it's crummy. It helps a lot to have the people around you be conscious of your presence and do what they can to include you. Make sure your face is visible. If you say something hilarious and everyone is cracking up, but the deaf person has a wft look on her face, be nice and repeat the joke without having to be prompted. The normal flow of hearing conversation is also a really tricky beast for a deaf person. It's hard for us to make sense of the natural breaks and flows from
one person to the next. Therefore, it can be pretty hard to find the right moment to interject and can be embarrassing if you cut someone off without knowing [page ends]
Transcripts for pages 21-22:
5. Above all,
treat them like
normal people!
Because they are!
Hey, you can contact me! That would be rad.
