By obfuscating these aspects of the state's function, assisted by a deeply incurious media; by concealing the theft of billions of public funds, which were funneled into the private sector; by insisting that they are shrinking the state, while expanding its authority, the neoliberal politician is able to create an ideological environment where people can oppose the state, oppose all social programs, and associate those positions with greater social and economic freedom - all while supporting the armed aspects of the state, which actually enforce a certain social and economic status quo, which reduce both personal and collective freedom, all while never feeling for a second that their views are contradictory. That is the heart of modern conservative politics.

The idea that someone cannot make autonomous decisions about their own life below the age of 25 is a direct threat to the autonomy of all young people. What separates gender from access to abortion or the right to vote?

This is a very dangerous and harmful proposal.

It’s significant that in a world where older generations have profoundly different political objectives (and far more political power) than younger people, we’re seeing this "think of the children" bs feeding seamlessly into "people under 25 are actually children".

Aside from some niche extremist groups, the right has utterly failed to capture the minds of younger people who have so little material reason to be invested in the current system. So plan B is just to deny them autonomy and the right to basic decision making.

If it should become any kind of legal precedent that under 25’s can’t consent to medical procedures deemed to be non-essential, using a vulnerable marginalised group as a wedge to get the door open, what comes next?

Under 25’s already get a smaller minimum wage in this country, there’s already an established current of thought that they’re not "real" adults yet. If that becomes further entrenched it would be hard NOT to ask "wait, why do we let them vote?".

And these legal structures will influence how people see themselves! We’ve already had a generation of young adults who won’t shut up about "adulting", imagine how infantilised they’d become if they were literally legally children at 24.

Genuinely may I ask for elaboration? or like a link to a good explanation

So basically Legend of Korra, unlike the anti-fascist morals and sentiment of Avatar: The Last Airbender, is a show that works to put up the politically centrist idea that modern neoliberal capitalism that exists as a result of the post-industrial revolution world is the peak of society and that anything that challenges it or has ideas of how to make a better society is actually wrong and the talk of making a better world is actually lies and hypocrisy. A better explanation of it are in these really well made videos here by Kay and Skittles:

They don’t cover every aspect of LoK’s unfortunate political implications, such as how the efforts of Kuvira to reclaim Earth Kingdom land basically stolen from them to make Republic City are framed as something evil instead of an act of liberation. But on the whole these videos explain a lot about how poorly LoK is as political story and how it acts as a piece of centrist propaganda meant to demonize any kind of progressive or left wing thought, while also trying to show that only neoliberal capitalism can defeat things like colonialism and fascism.
