The meeting: featuring, the Squad™
N and Uzi were the first to arrive, so they sat patiently next to each other.
The meeting room wasn't really in a meeting room per say. It was just a rather large living room with windows. After the yeetining, it had a broken down wall, shattered window, and furniture sprawled everywhere, but the squad took the time to clean it up and make it more comfortable. Now you couldn’t tell it was ever destroyed. Sofas, chairs, a ping pong table. Heck, Eko even managed to get an arcade machine functioning in the room.
“What do you think this meeting is going to be about.?” Nwhispered to Uzi.
“I don't know, and why are you whispering? We are the only ones here” Uzi said.
‘Oh Uhh… huh…” He scratches the side of his head in embarrassment when suddenly the sound of the room door opening.
“Hi N, hi Uzi!” That was A, M’s boyfriend.
“Oh hi A, where’s M?” He greeted in his usual politeness.
“Hey, where’s the drama king? Too busy admiring himself?” Uzi joked.
“Right here, dipshit.” N himself wasint scared, since he already saw M coming from behind. Uzi on the other hand-
“HOLY ROBOTIC-CHRIST WHERE DID YOU COME FROM!” She screamed, jumping of the couch and turning around to see M giving a small smirk.
“Oh… I have my ways..” he said ominously.
“He was hiding here the entire time waiting for the perfect time to scare you.” A said who was oblivious, which sported a betrayed look from M.
“What is all the racket in here?” That was Eko, who poked her head inside before walking in, and was immediately followed by Mae, the sister of Doll, who was wearing a short skirt and white T-shirt. “ I Could hear Uzi screaming while I was walking down the hallway.” Then she saw M.
“Lemme guess, the gay dumbass over there making fun of Uzi being a anime girl again?”
M gave a glare “I least I wasn't a step in daughter…”
Eko dosent let this twitch her, instead coming up with her own comeback “You know M I’m curious, does your ass ever get jealous from how much shit comes out of your mouth?”
“Oh you little-!!!”
Before the two could get into a full on brawl, Mae gets in between them, then gives hand signals to Eko who immediately backs off.
“Ahem.” The squad looks at the door again, and in come in 13 and F, the secondary parents after X and S.
13 with his arms crossed, addressed the fighting teens“Judging by the yelling, I’m guess M insulted Uzi, than Eko insulted M, and then the two were about to kill each other until Mae or N intervened. Am I right?”
“.. yeah I guess”
“Right on target actually..”
“Yup that about sums it up…”
13 sighs “What else’s could I possibly expect…
“Hey now-“ F said “let’s not be to hard on them, their still in their youth.”
“What about youth?”
“Oh! Y! How are you doing!” F greeted Y, who was quickly followed by Kat.
“I’m fine, other than the fact that I had to leave T all alone.”
Kat chuckled “And I thought you said “a little bit”
“Oh kiss my ass Kat!”
(Bit of meta talk but I would introduce more of the characters, but I’m on a bit of a word limit here soooo in come in 21, I, W, V, and oh even 7! Just go read the character bios from their creators…)
“All right, sooo everyone is here, where’s X and S?” Asked W.
“I don’t know, last I saw X she told me to stop playing with Uzi.” V said.
“Yeah, ‘playing’” Uzi muttered sarcastically.
“Gey F-“ Y said “Do you know what’s going on?”
F pressed her Denver’s together “well…”
Knock knock
Everyone turned their heads to the open door.
“We’ll speak of the devil…”
S stood at the threshold, his metallic knuckles on the door. X was right beside him, whose eyes stared at the ground with her usual tired expression. And yet, there was something more to it, tho no one could put their finger on it.
“Hey everyone-“ S began “Thank you all for coming. We got you here today because… we have something to say.”
S moved aside to let X pass, who walked into the room and made her way to the center.
X wasn't staring at anyone, just her feet.
“Ok…” she began. “I know that I told you before that you all could finally rest…that we were finally free. But unfortunately, something has come up, something that I fears might happen but that I naively put to the side.”
No one said anything, just listed intently instinctively knowing that whatever X said would be the most important thing she would ever say.
“I think.. no that’s not right…. I know that M.O.M is coming to copper 9.”
Silence.
It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
Some had consumed faces, as they never had heard of M.O.M
Others had bewildered faces, like they thought X didn’t mean to say that.
But most had horrified faces.
“I’m sorry, what?”
Uzi: Sunset
3 weeks later
The sun is a beautiful thing. Probably the most beautiful thing to look at on this planet. Uzi didn't know what it was about the sun. It was just a giant ball of flaming gas after all. But right here, sitting on a rock watching as the sun set, it seemed so much more than that.
Sitting here brought her back to when it was just her and…
“Uzi!” Someone called, making her jump a bit. There was N, waving in the shade to avoid the sun.
“Oh, there you are Biscuit! Are you doing your character growth again?” he called. The nickname made her blush, and she quickly turned back around to stare at the sun.
“N-No! I'm just… sitting here being edgy!” She called back.
“Oh, ok! You know I wish I could join you but you know…”
“The sun would kill you.” she sighed. What deja vu.
She did feel a little bad, leaving N in the shadow. Maybe she should…
NOPE Nuh-uh, not happening!! Then, unconsciously, she got up and began stomping her way toward N.
WHAT AM I DOING!? GO BACK!!
N stared at Uzi with some astonishment as Uzi made her way to him. Meanwhile, Uzi continued screaming at herself, begging her not to do it. But it was ultimately futile, and Uzi went next to N, and sat down, with a small blush on her face.
‘Huh- Soooo…” N said.
“Don't make this awkward…” Uzi growled, trying to hide her face in utter embarrassment.
“A-awkward? Heh nooo… it’s just well…”
N’s words trailed off, also developing a small blush on his face. By now, the two were more or less a couple, and yet they still got flustered when the two were alone. Still, Uzi always liked N being around, though she would probably die before she ever showed it.
“I wonder what sunlight feels like,” N said.
“I mean, not that I can ever find out, but maybe it feels…”
“Utterly painful ?” Uzi said.
“Well yes… but if it wasn't, maybe warm and gentle? Heh.. kind like you,” he said with a smile.
MAYDAY MAYDAY, FLIRT DETECTED. The alarm went in her head, and her emergency response kicked in, and she punched N in the arm as hard as she could.
“OWW!!” He yelped.
“And I'm as painful as it too! SO BITE ME!!” Uzi shouted.

It took a while for the situation to calm down, with N mostly dodging Uzis swings and trying to say things to calm her down (only for it to make her even more flustered). But eventually, Uzi noticed the sun going down and immediately ceased.
N: First sunset
“Oh look!” Uzi said.
N followed her eyes and his eyes grew wide at sight. In his entire life, he had hidden from the sun. And although under the circumstances of potentially being killed any day now, he for some reason felt…. Peaceful. He stood there admiring the sun for who knows how long until he noticed Uzi had sat down again and was staring at the sun once again. Then barely thinking about it, despite Uzi trying to turn him into a punching bag mere moments ago, he sat down next to her and rested his head on hers.
There was a slight flinch and grumble from Uzi, and he could imagine her blushing tremendously. But Uzi did no retaliation, and N had the pleasurable thought that Uzi secretly liked it.
The two sat together close, sitting and continuing watching the sunset until it finally disappeared behind the horizon.
The two didn't move even when the sun was gone, since they both did enjoy the moment together. N had lost track of time, but it was 30 minutes when he shot his head up off Uzis, panic filling his head. The reason being his auditory system detected something high in the sky.
Uzi: Final Sunset
Uzi turned her head and looked at N, who was suddenly standing up and his eyes were zipping around like he was searching for something.
“N..?” She said.
He didnt respond. Uzi began to be concerned and she slowly got up herself and waved her hands in front of his face. This broke N’s fear trance and he shook his head and turned his attention back to Uzi.
“Somethings just entered the atmosphere…” He uttered.
“Huh? Like what? Like a meteor or a satellite or like a…” A landing pod. The thought wrenched her core, she quickly turned around looking to the sky, listening intently for anything. A shift in the air, a small sudden breeze, anything would do.
Then there was the small light in the sky, and something zoomed through. the clouds, leaving a trail of smoke behind it.
“We have to go, NOW!” N said frantically. Uzi quickly jumped on his back, and without another word, N spread his wings and took off.
M.O.M: Arrival; the night begins.
The sky which had just parked with the only light source being the two moons was quiet. The location where the pod would land was far enough away from N and Uzi you couldn't even hear them. From the ground, the pod would look like a small star, dim at first, which would glow brighter and brighter until it was the third most noticeable object in the sky. And it was getting brighter still.
Then the bright star looked as though it was combusting, becoming a bright orange as the landing pod entered the atmosphere, shooting through the sky like a rocket. It traveled for over a mile, descending further to the ground, crashing through a building before finally it impacted the surface.
When the dust settles, the landing pod was resting in a small crater. Inside, there was the sound of a sloshing thick liquid and mechanical gears turning.
BANG, BANG!!
The sound was of something fierce banging against the metal door trying to get out. After the fourth bang, the door flew off, and black goo-like tentacles reached out.
“Ready or not copper 9, here I am.”

Just because he was Bruce Wayne's son, a well-trained military sniper, and a world class black ops squad leader, it did not mean he had any sense of time when it came to being on leave. Once that clock started when they hit the tarmac after a mission, everyone lost sense of when they were supposed to meet up again—as much as they loved running with one another, they loved being on leave much more—especially the captain.
That being said, after a major mission of shutting down a world class terrorist organization ring and freeing some hundred plus captives, they all decided a few months of leave was deserved for saving a chunk of the world. And when he got back to Gotham in May, he’d slowly forgotten all about the next month and the pride that went with it.

Freshly showered and dressed, he wandered into the kitchen and collapsed in his set next to Bruce’s on the other side of the table, Dick next to him. His coffee had already been poured, hot and steaming like Alfred made best and he raised it to his lips, sipping quietly as his eyes moved around the breakfast room, taking in the sight of his family.
Dick and Damian were discussing something about the arcade rather animatedly—something about Cheese Vikings?, Jason and Steph were in an argument over who was a better Robin—so far Steph was winning, Tim was passed out on the side of the table—unsurprisingly, and Cass and Duke were busy stuffing waffles in their faces—smart cookies those two.
He glanced at his father, noticing that he had the paper, and he took a moment to read over the front page. Pride Month Comes to Gotham! Come Celebrate Today During the Pride Parade! Sponsored by Wayne Enterprises!
Blinking, he set his coffee cup down. “It’s June,” He blurted out, sounding rather shocked, and everyone looked at him.
“Yeah?” Dick said. “It’s been that way for about a week now, (Y/N).”
He looked at him. “No, Dick, it’s fucking Pride Month.” (Y/N) ignored Alfred’s admonishment of his expletive and jumped to his feet, face lighting up like the morning sun. “IT’S FUCKING PRIDE MONTH AND THE PARADE IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IN THE CITY STREETS!”
(Y/N) spun on his heel and sprinted out of the kitchen like a madman, his heavy footfalls sounding down the hallway and up the stairs before he came back down with a bunch of T-shirts in his hands. “I HAVE SHIRTS FOR ALL OF YOU!”
Tossing them one by one, he shouted, “BI FOR DICK! BI FOR JASON! PAN FOR STEPH! LESBIAN FOR CASS! PAN FOR TIMMY! AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE REST OF YOU ARE BUT I HAVE RAINBOW SHIRTS THAT SAY ‘LGBTQIA+ ALLIES’!”
Everyone looked at their shirts, all designed with the color of their respective flag, then at (Y/N) who was busy slipping his own pink, yellow, and blue shirt on. He grinned at them like a maniac. “Well don’t just sit there! Put the shirts on and let’s go! Pride Parade is happening, and we can’t miss it!”
Galvanized by his words, everyone started putting their shirts on, even Alfred and Bruce before they followed him to the SUV where he climbed in the driver’s seat.
“Hey, (Y/N)?” Jason asked.
“Yeah boy!”
“I applaud that you know my first orientation, but I hate to break it to you—I’m a demisexual bi.”
(Y/N) leaned over into the passenger’s side floorboard and shoved Dick’s legs out of the way before he yanked up a bag and unzipped it. He pulled out a rather large plastic package and threw it back at him, hitting him in the face. “EXPENSIVE FACE PAINT THAT’S NOT WORTH THE PRICE I PAID BUT WHATEVER! PAINT ALL THE FLAGS ON YOUR FACES!”
“Brother, you must really love Pride Parades.” Damian remarked and he nodded.
“LOVE ALL THE PARADES! LOVE PEOPLE! LOVE HAVING FUN! LOVE THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY!” he opened the garage and hit the gas, speeding down the driveway. “HAVE ALL THE FUN AT PRIDE! MEET ALL THE PEOPLE! MAKE ALL THE FRIENDS! CELEBRATE OUR UNIQUENESS!”
He tossed back more items, sunglasses, necklaces, hats, everything. “IDENTIFY YOURSELF! OR DON’T! IT’S YOUR RIGHT TO BE AS COMFORTABLE AS YOU WANT! BUT HAVE FUN!” he stopped at a red light and turned. “DO YOU REMEMBER MY RULES?”
Dick went first as the oldest, then Jason, Steph, Cass, Duke, Tim, and Damian. “Don’t add to the population.
“Don’t subtract from the population.”
“Don’t go to jail.”
“Don’t do anything stupid.”
“Don’t do anything you wouldn’t do.”
“And if you do—”
“Don’t get caught!” Damian finalized with a grin as Dick wrote the words ‘Not sure yet’ on his face. “I am excited to experience this!”
(Y/N) looked scandalized. “YOU’VE NEVER BEEN TO A PRIDE PARADE? OH, THE INHUMANITY!” he looked at his father and went jaw-slacked. “Dad, are you putting the bi-flag on your face?”
Bruce looked up from his compact mirror and nodded. “Mhm.”
“I didn’t know you were bi?”
“I didn’t know you were pansexual, (Y/N).” he retorted with a smile and (Y/N) grinned.
“What did you think I was?”
“In the closet.”
“HA!”
“Wait, so (Y/N),” Steph started. “When did you know you were pan?”
He blinked and pulled into a parking garage. “When I met Ghost-Maker in a LGBTQ nightclub and when home with him for the weekend.”
No one said a word, merely looking at Bruce who looked absolutely disgusted. “You slept with K?”
“Many times.” (Y/N) snorted, putting the car in park. “He’s extremely proficient at it. It’s a shame he doesn’t experience romantic attraction because I’d marry him in a heartbeat.”
Everyone gagged, but Jason nudged Tim in the ribs and snickered, “That’s pretty gay.”
And then the entire SUV was filled with cackles as they climbed out and marched into the rainbow filled streets, mile-wide grins on their faces and pride in their hearts.

Kirishima Eijirou remembers the exact moment he realized he was bisexual.
He remembers, because it was the same moment he looked over, the last syllable of a throwaway joke on his lips, and saw a genuine laugh dawn on Bakugou’s face like a shot-by-shot montage in a movie. The pinch to Bakugou’s eyebrows, disbelieving, pretending to be annoyed; the corners of his mouth trembling, twitching upwards, then—
A snort. "The fuck, Shitty Hair", Bakugou had said and laughed. "That’s stupid."
It really is, Kirishima should’ve replied. When Bakugou had leaned over to shove at him, rough and affectionate, he should’ve shoved him back, demanded from him to admit it was at least a little funny, laughing too.
Yet Kirishima’s heart had pounded once, a solid beat, one he felt to the tips of his fingers. (Kirishima doesn’t remember what he ended up doing that day. It must have been a smooth save on his part; Bakugou didn’t mention anything amiss, and he’s not one to mince his words with stuff like that.)
Suddenly, Kirishima is incredibly aware of everything Bakugou does. Every smirk-heavy one-liner, every rude gesture, every scoff and cackle makes his chest feel warm and tight, makes his pulse race in his veins. Crushes had been a thing for Kirishima in the past but never with guys, and never like this, intense and in-his-face. Kind of like Bakugou himself, actually.
And Kirishima loves his bro — has loved him before he knew he love-loved him, too — but this is a lot. A lot to process, a lot to think and redefine about himself, about instances in his past that make sense now.
So much sense.
Kirishima doesn’t dislike being bi. His moms raised him to accept and love people no matter who they like or how they relate to themselves and their bodies. They taught him to love himself in the same way. It’s not their fault his anxiety tends to get in the way of that — that the confidence he desperately wants to make his own once and for all is like a sandcastle built too close to the shoreline, washed away when the tides are at their highest point.
Like the times his quirk has crumbled in his hands.
Like the night Bakugou sits Kirishima down and tells him, "I think I like you", words steady even if his hands aren't, fidgeting in his lap as his knee bounces with excess energy. "Dunno. I don’t do this kinda shit. I barely do friends, really, but I want this. I wanna be more than that, if it’s you. If… if you want that, too."
That night Kirishima can't say: I think I like you, too.
The words get stuck in his throat, between one nervous heartbeat and the next. Kirishima reaches for Bakugou, grabs one of those fidgeting hands in a clumsy one of his own and squeezes their palms together until he can feel Bakugou’s pulse race just like his.
"Okay", Kirishima says instead, lips pulling into a smile far more bold than he feels on the inside. "Okay, let’s try."
Bakugou blinks, frowns, looks away, flustered. Glances back and smiles, "Yeah, let’s", and that is that.
They don't talk about their relationship that night. Those first few days, 'more than friends' is enough for them. Taking it slow doesn't come naturally to either of them in any other aspect of their life; Kirishima knows he loves Bakugou, knows he likes boys now too, but only one of those things fell into place immediately, and the other needs time to settle, not-quite right on his skin yet.
When he asks Bakugou if they can get used to it in private first, Bakugou shrugs. "Sure. Ain't one for mushy shit in public, anyway."
They don’t talk about it with their friends or their class, either, although it’s safe to say the entire squad is some form of queer, and most of 1-A is, too.
It never comes up much, for one. (Inside jokes about not being able to drive and Move, bitch, I’m gay don’t count, Kirishima rationalizes. It would be weird to add to it himself when only Bakugou is aware he’s not straight.)
Kirishima collects a variety of buttons with pride flags on them on his backpack, one for each of his friends: The lesbian one for Ashido, the pansexual colors for Kaminari and Jirou, rainbow and ace buttons for Bakugou, the agender and trans flags for Sero…
...and the pink-lavender-blue that’s him, now.
If asked, Kirishima would say it’s for Midoriya and his moms. It wouldn't even be a lie — the button was there before Kirishima’s burst of Bakugou-induced self-realization. But no one in 1-A asks. The rainbow of colors brings a wordless smile to his classmates’ faces most days, sometimes an excited comment of "Hey, that’s me!" with a finger tapping the respective button.
It’s fine. Kirishima isn’t sure he could’ve handled the question without just blurting out the full story, and then it would exist outside of his head and that’s—
It’s a lot. To imagine that happening. So it’s good it doesn’t.
Like, how can he just put that out there without knowing anything about his own sexuality? What if the questions do come, and Kirishima can’t provide an immediate answer, or find the right words to describe what he feels? Then it’ll look like he’s pretending to be something he isn’t, and seeing that suspicion bloom in the eyes of his friends and classmates... It has the potential to break him.
In that case, it's far better to say nothing at all until he can do right by himself, by people like him — loud and strong and proud about their identities like his moms are, like his classmates are, like his friends are.
Maybe this being-bi thing is something Kirishima has to grow into, then. To be worthy of flying those colors for his own sake, to openly claim them as his. It’s like his quirk, in that way. Something that’s a part of him, but not fully there yet until he’s gone through the motions a thousand times, put the work in, made it instinctual, second nature.
It’s a challenge — and lacking confidence or not, Kirishima never backs down from a challenge.
Yeah. That must be how it is.

what about like mickey and geneva crossing paths somehow but don't know each other (i guess before the wedding bc i would guess they would have met at that point) and idk maybe she overhears him say something homophobic and she confronts him and somehow mentions gay jesus and idk. this is 100% inspired by my desire for someone to ask mickey if he knows gay jesus just for him to respond that he knows him biblically lol
Ah, this might just be the most justified desire in the world, nonnie; I salute you! Okay, let's see –
I'm thinking Geneva and a bunch of her friends decide to stage a protest of some kind. Maybe just to raise awareness of the plight of the LGTB+ community in general, or maybe in direct reaction to a store treating gay people less than right... let's be honest, there's a lot of shit happening, so it's not like it'd be hard for them to find a just cause. Brave and resolute they arm themselves with righteousness and march out in the name of their lord and savior, Gay Jesus!
March, as it happens, straight to A Certain Mall – CAN YOU GUESS WHICH? – where A Certain Disgruntled Darling – CAN YOU GUESS WHO? – works. Now, I don't think their protest is aimed at Old Army per se but maybe it happens right outside the store just next to it, and so the Gay Jesus Group and all of their signs and whatever other props they bring kind of spill over to halfway block the entrance to Mickey's workplace?
By rights this should be a case for mall main security, which I assume exists even if I have no idea what the right word for it would be, but let's pretend that they're unsure about how to intervene in a way that doesn't get them into trouble for being homophobic. Maybe their boss is a very anxious and pollitically minded person, highly unsuited for their job? Or just secretly supports what's happening? Either way, mall security does nothing. The protest continues. There's a crowd gathering, some jeering, some curious, and some in silent support. Between that and the protest itself there's not a whole lot of people making their way into Old Army which Concerns the staff working the floor there, and so they send Mickey out to deal with it.
“What's in it for me?” Mickey probably demands, savvy to the fact that this strictly speaking isn't his job, and the fuck does he care if a few hippies stand around chanting whatever so that no one can get in to the store to bother him while he dreams of all the stuff Ian and he can do to and with one another once he gets off work?
I'm not sure what the rest of the staff promise him, but it's good enough that fine, he'll go scare these rainbow kids away. So out he stomps and he immediately identifies Geneva as the ring leader, mostly because it's her holding the megaphon and leading the chants. Our highly questionable hero walks up to her, calling: “Yo! Gonna need you to pack this shit up and get the hell out of here. You're bothering the customers.”
Mickey's scary when he wants to be, that's true, but Geneva ain't no pushoever and she's used to standing up to all sorts of bullies – plus she has the unshakeable zeal of a true believer. She's not backing down, and maybe there's a small part of Mickey that can admire her courage, but a larger part is just really fucking annoyed at these people complicating his workday with this stupid crap.
Sadly (for Mickey) Geneva doesn't give a fig for his annoyance. She stares him right in the eye and launches into a spiel about how the store they're protesting has treated the LGTB+ community in a horrible, horrible way and people need to be made aware of the fact.
Mickey's face wrinkles in disgust. “And what the fuck's whining about it gonna do, huh? Someone insult you 'cause you're gay you beat the shit outta them, or you trash their fucking store to teach them a lesson, but nobody's gonna give a damn about a few signs. Besides, those ugly things” – he indicates the signs – “are boring as hell, you ain't gonna convince people of shit with those.”
(There's an alternative version of this story, I think, wherein Mickey now leaps into a lecture of how to make proper, eye-catching signs, and maybe even leads a little practical workshop in the art of it, because we know he's got an artistic streak. But as amusing as that image is, Mickey ultimately just doesn't care enough about whatever these people are doing to bother, so in this version of the story, that just doesn't happen. Sorry, guys. I cannot be blamed for Mickey not having a whole lot of communal gay spirit.)
Geneva is maybe a little surprised by Mickey's take on the whole thing, but not impressed: “Demanding that we should be interesting to be heard is putting unjust pressure on the victim of systematic oppression and – “
The crowd has followed this entire exchange with varying degrees of cautious interest and now someone – a big, beared man, probably, and likely sporting a MAGA hat too – calls out: “Nobody cares, you fucking dyke! Go suck a dick and maybe you won't be such a bitch.”
Geneva is sadly used to these sort of slurs, and she and her group are more than prepared to defend themselves, but before anyone has a chance to do or say anything, Mickey – whose face has collapsed into irritated disgust – turns around and walks straight up to the shouty bastard and gets right in his stupid face: “Yo, maybe you wanna keep your fat mouth shut, Cheeto-packer, or I'll give you a dick to suck on and I promise you, you gonna fucking choke on it.”
The man stares. The crowd stares. Geneva and the Gay Jesus Group stares too. Mickey, he just stands right there, smiling up at the far taller man; it's that dangerous smile of his, and the beared dude suddenly shows far more sense than his hat would suggest him capable off and walks away without another word.
Unperpetubed, Mickey turns back to the protesters: “So you gonna get out of here or what?”
Geneva isn't quite sure how to respond. She doesn't know what to make of this security guard and his frankly odd and contradictory behavior. “Thank you for shutting him up,” she begins slowly and a little grudgingly. “But we can't just walk away. Gay Jesus taught us – “
“Gay Jesus?” Ah fuck, he should have fucking known, and if he finds out that Ian had anything to do with this, he's going to fucking kill him...
Geneva frowns at his tone. “You know about Gay Jesus?”
Mickey's lips twist into something that's not quite a smile. “Know him biblically,” he offers sardonically, and he takes no small amount of pleasure at the sight of Geneva at an actual loss for words. (Sure, he's only known her for two minutes, but he has this feeling that it's a very rare sight indeed.)
Then he sighs; this has gone on long enough. He picks up his phone and calls his boyfriend (who has the very good sense to pick up almost immediately): “Ay, asshole, can you tell your fucking groupies to go be pains in someone else's ass?”
“... what?”
And Mickey explains while Geneva and her squad yet again stares and then Ian talks to Geneva and of course he doesn't talk her out of protesting – because she is right to to do it, let's not forget – but in the end they reach some sort of compromise that leads to the Gay Jesus Group taking themselves and their signs elsewhere, and Mickey swaggers back into the store, equally pleased and disgruntled. The staff working the floor has followed the entire thing and now they have questions, but Mickey just gives them one forbidding glare and they very hastily return to folding clothes and whatever. The customers start walking in; peace has been restored; all is well.
(And when he comes home that night the whole incident develops into a complicated – but utterly playful, never fear – argument about who owes whom what; does Ian need to make things up to Mickey for starting the whole stupid cult in the first place, or is Mickey in Ian's debt for needing him to resolve the situation? They don't actually reach an agreement on the issue, but I think it's safe to say that both of them feel quite satisfied by the time they eventually fall asleep in each other's arms.)

Martino isn’t entirely convinced this is a good idea, not after the last couple of weeks, even if Filippo assures them it’s safe, and completely necessary
“How are we going to get in?” Martino asks when Filippo proposes the idea. “We’re not all eighteen.”
“Leave that to me, Rose,” Filippo assures him, and Martino doesn’t know what he did, but they all get into the club—Gio, Martino, Luca, Elia, and Niccolò.
“Wow,” Luca breathes beside Martino as they follow Filippo through the crowd. Martino has never been out with Filippo, mostly because he’s not eighteen yet and also because he’s never felt the need to go to a gay club in all the time he’s been out.
The club looks almost exactly like Martino pictured it, with rainbow flags behind the bar, guys dancing together on the dance floor, some sort of techno-pop music blaring as colorful lights flash over them.
“Have fun,” Filippo tells them, a hand on Martino’s shoulder, shouting over the music. “You don’t have to worry here.”
Martino wants to believe that. He wants to believe there are safe places in the world, where he can just be with Nico, places that aren’t his bedroom or Nico’s living room.
“There are so many guys,” Luca says, staring out at the dance floor, and Gio laughs, clapping his shoulder.
“It’s called a gay bar for a reason, Luchi.”
“Elia,” Filippo says from across the circle, and Martino feels Nico shifting closer, taking his hand carefully, as if testing the waters. “Come dance with me.”
Elia’s eyebrows go up at the question, and he looks around at the rest of the guys. Gio hides his laughter behind his hand, and Martino shakes his head at Filippo.
“Uh, okay,” he says after a second, and Filippo grabs his wrist and tugs him into the crowd.
“Go on,” Gio says, nodding at Martino. “I’ll watch Luchi. Make sure he doesn’t accidentally hit on anyone.”
Luca isn’t even listening, gazing around at all the guys squished in the club. Martino opens his mouth to say that they don’t have to go anywhere, that he’s fine just hanging out, but Nico’s fingers squeeze his hand. Taking a breath, he pushes down the anxiety rising in his chest and lets Nico tug him away, onto the dance floor.
“I can see you thinking,” Nico says, and Martino can’t help glancing around as Nico’s hands land on his waist. He just can’t get it out of his head, what happened the last time they even smiled at each other in public.
This is different, though. There’s a couple making out against the wall, another grinding together on the dance floor, and Martino is scared of Nico’s hands resting lightly on his waist.
“Aren’t you worried?” he asks as they sway with the music, not really dancing, and he doesn’t care about any of the other people around them as Nico leans in closer so he doesn’t have to shout, brushing a hand through Martino’s hair, falling to the back of his neck as he nods.
“All the time,” he admits, and Martino lifts his gaze to Nico’s. “And it’s not something that will ever go away, for either of us.”
Martino hates that it’s true. Reaching for Nico, he twines his arms around his shoulders, sighing deeply as he pulls Nico in close. He shouldn’t have to worry, here, with people who are just like them all around. No one even glances their way as they embrace. It’s a refreshing change, and even though Martino knows it’s temporary, he thinks maybe he needed this.
“We should listen to Filo,” he says, feeling Nico’s hands on the small of his back, moving back enough so he can see Nico’s face in the colored, flashing lights. “Have fun tonight.”
A smile grows on Nico’s face and he takes Martino’s face in his hands. “I love you, Marti,” he says, and even though Martino’s chest seizes up when Nico leans in and kisses him, he doesn’t duck out of the way. Nico has always been bolder than him.
Nothing happens. No one even looks. And Martino feels strangely relieved, elated even when Nico pulls back.
“I love you too,” he whispers, nose pressed to Nico’s, and he kisses the grin off Nico’s face a second later.
“Guys!”
Elia interrupts them, pushing his way through the crowd to reach them, and Martino glances over.
“Guys,” Elia says again as he reaches them, face flushed. “I think Filo is flirting with me.”
Nico laughs into Martino’s shoulder, and Martino sighs. “Do you need me to tell him to stop?”
Elia actually looks embarrassed for a second, and Martino isn’t sure why. “I think I might have flirted back,” he says slowly. Martino stares. “I was wondering what I should do next.”
Martino doesn’t know what to say, and he elbows Nico as he only grins in response.
“Do next,” he repeats, as though his brain isn’t fully processing what Elia is saying.
“Obviously you should just kiss him,” Nico says, and Martino splutters, turning to him.
“Ni!” He doesn’t think that’s a good idea since, hello, Elia isn’t into guys?
Elia nods, though, like he’s actually considering it. Martino has no idea what’s going on. Are gay clubs somehow magical places that turn everyone gay?
“What?” Nico asks, squeezing Martino’s side. “He wasn’t into Silvia. I want to fulfill my dreams of being a matchmaker.”
“But with Filo?” Martino asks, glancing at Elia. “Are you into him?”
Elia shrugs. “I don’t know. Maybe. He’s hot.”
Groaning, Martino doesn’t know what to say. Elia is going to do whatever he wants, and he can’t stop his boyfriend from giving terrible advice.
“If you like him, go for it,” Niccolò says despite Martino rolling his eyes.
“Yeah, okay,” Elia agrees as though Nico has said something profound, and he disappears into the crowd before Martino can stop him. Shooting Nico a look, he’s met with Nico’s innocent face—the one he uses when he knows he’s done something devious.
“This isn’t going to end well,” he says, but Nico shakes his head, grinning at Martino.
“Tonight, we don’t have to worry about anything,” he says simply, pulling Martino back to him, swaying his hips with the music, and Martino can’t help smiling. He feels relaxed finally, safe, with Niccolò, surrounded by people who don’t give two fucks about anything they’re doing.
“It’s not fair!”
Luca’s voice cuts through the crowd, and Martino looks behind him to Luca and Gio heading towards them.
“You can’t help it, Luchi,” Gio assures him as they reach Martino and Nico.
“Even gay guys don’t want me,” Luca says with a pathetic frown, and Gio shakes his shoulder.
“We’re still working on Silvia. She’ll come around.”
“What happened?” Martino asks, and Gio shakes his head.
“Three guys gave Gio their number,” Luca supplies. “Three!”
“You’ll get your day in the sun, Luchino,” Nico assures him. “How about you dance with us and forget about all your problems.”
Martino thinks he was right as the song changes and Nico persuades Luca to bounce along with him. This really is a magical place.

gay representation in Starkid shows: a giant rambly post no one asked for
I have a lot of thoughts about gay representation in Starkid musicals (I would say LGBT+ rep but there aren’t any trans characters except for debatably Chorn, who’s described as a monster, so that doesn’t really count) and I’m sure no one cares but I’m writing about how it has changed and how it differs for mlm and wlw and ye
so first off let’s establish gay characters in starkid musicals (I’ve heard that some of these are up to interpretation, but I’m basing this off the idea that most people recognize the romance-coding in these pairings)
Quirrell/Voldemort (AVPM/AVPSY)
Ron (AVPM/AVPS/AVPSY)
Dumbledore (AVPM/AVPS/AVPSY)
Scarfy/Sorty (AVPS/AVPSY)
Seamus/Dean (AVPC)
McDoon/Cletus (TTO)
Zazzalil/Jemilla (Firebringer)
Alice/Deb (TGWDLM)
that’s 7 MLM characters dating back to 2009, 4 WLW characters dating back to 2016, and 2 that are objects (a scarf and a hat) that can’t really be assigned genders
what I find really interesting is the difference between the way the mlm and wlw are treated. until 2016, starkid did not have any wlw characters in their musicals; however, the mlm characters that they did have were not treated well
Quirrell and Voldemort are an interesting case because it is difficult to discern if they are treated as a joke because they are gay or because nothing is taken seriously in AVPM. I think that, although they are a joke, they’re more acceptable because no couple in AVPM is treated very seriously. if the Ron/Hermione kiss scene exists, then I’m here for whatever nonsense Quirrell and Voldemort want to get up to. (but I’m not done with them- put a pin in this)
(I also have to acknowledge that their scene in AVPSY is beautiful. stunning. amazing. perfect. they are maybe starkid’s best mlm because, even though they start off as a joke, there’s their CHILD and the “okay is wonderful” line and the way Quirrell leans his head against Voldemort and smiles softly and I’m tearing up because I love them okay anYWAY)
Ron is also odd because he is confirmed bi in AVPS, but that point is never revisited. on one hand, that’s nice because his entire life doesn’t revolve around his sexuality and it doesn’t change who he is, but on the other hand, Ron is canonically bi in the AVPM trilogy and it’s never really a thing. (again, it doesn’t Have to be a thing, but that would be lovely. also one could argue that some of his interactions with Harry are a bit like a pining bisexual, but that brings up a bunch of other issues. for one, gay-character-pines-after-straight-friend is Tired. it also enhances the idea that mlm are a joke, an idea that we will revisit again and again in this post.)
AVPM trilogy Dumbledore is bad. what else can I say. he makes inappropriate comments to children. his sexuality and existence are a giant joke. I don’t think there’s any instance where his sexuality is not treated as a punchline.
Scarfy and Sorty are every gay stereotype ever. Scarfy has the “””gay voice””” and they’re a rainbow, which aren’t necessarily bad, but just. Yikes. they do have some cute moments (”why do you have to be so brave”) but also... I’m not saying it’s bury your gays, but one of them does die...
Seamus and Dean are confirmed to be married in A Very Potter Christmas (I believe). it’s a brief mention, similar to Ron, that can retroactively be applied to the AVPM trilogy, but mostly it comes off as a “haha they’re husbands it’s comedy gold”
then there’s McDoon and Cletus. Oh boy. they’re the worst. a good way to tell if gay characters are being played as a joke because they’re gay or if it’s just a joke is to switch the gender of one person. imagine if Cletus was a woman, and then imagine all of the scenes that imply something between him and McDoon. it completely changes the meaning of them. they’re also the villains. gay villains aren’t necessarily bad; however, there is a big trend of villains being gay because it associates being bad with being gay. media influences how people view the world. if every gay person you see is a bad person, you’ll begin to think gay = bad. they’re the worst.
a common trend of starkid mlm, such as Ron and Seamus/Dean, is that they are briefly mentioned once and then never returned to. there is nothing wrong with briefly mentioning that a character is part of the LGBT+ community without elaborating on it because that’s not the only aspect of their character. one good example of this is the gay gas attendant in solve it squad (I know we’re dipping into TCB, but I think they’re great about LGBT+ rep, or at least gay rep). he mentions his boyfriend, and it’s not a big deal, but it’s nice to hear. it’s nice to hear that Ron, Seamus, and Dean are all mlm. the issue comes in when that’s all the rep that exists. the AVPM trilogy is a special case because it has multiple mlm characters, so this rule doesn’t apply as strongly as in other cases, but it’s worth mentioning.
the most common trend of starkid mlm is that they are played as a joke. Quirrell/Voldemort are the closest starkid gets to a loving relationship between two men. and there is nothing wrong with one gay couple being comedic. I adore QM’s songs- different as can be is a work of art. the issue stems, similar to the gay villain trope, from when it becomes a repeated trend. if gay people are always jokes, that means viewers will begin to associate being gay with being a joke. starkid mlm are never allowed to have a beautiful love story like, for example, jafar and scheherazade. the best they can hope for is a nice ending at the end of the third musical in a trilogy after their ending in the first installment was done as a joke rather than sincerely. it’s the trend of lacking a meaningful love story that’s the problem, not the individual cases.
OKAY now onto the wlw.
the main issue with starkid wlw is that they were nonexistent until firebringer. I hope that I’m missing something, but if I’m right, there were not any wlw for 7 years. it’s nonsense that starkid didn’t have canon wlw until then. I know there are excuses to make, like it was a different time and whatever, but it still seems weird.
Zazzalil and Jemilla are great. they’re the main characters, there’s no doubt that they’re in love, and they sing a gay duet. beautiful. stunning. effervescent. I also think the “they weren’t built up enough” argument is interesting because I definitely get it to a point but also straight couples are never built up but they’re everywhere. let a gay couple that’s not perfectly built up end up together like straights do all the time. (also they were built up a bit, although I agree that it could have been more)
more eloquent people than me have praised Alice and Deb before, but I’ll try. Alice is great because she has the exact conflict that a straight kid might have: her dad doesn’t approve of her significant other. Bill isn’t homophobic; he just doesn’t like Deb. when he suggests other people for Alice to date, a guy’s name doesn’t come to mind. he supports his lesbian daughter- just not her taste in women. it’s great.
so starkid held off on wlw until they decided to do representation seriously. their wlw are treated with respect, and they’re interesting characters who are more than their sexuality.
so why do I bring all of this up? because I think it’s interesting, but also because of Workin’ Boys, the (potentially coming) short film.
starkid has not really moved past their joking-mlm days. I’m not saying that they’re super homophobic because they’re obviously not. But, they still do some questionable things. Hidgens is really gay-coded, and it’s a giant joke, and it makes me concerned about workin’ boys. I don’t know if there will be gay characters (although I can always hope), but if there are, I don’t know if they’ll fall into the same stereotype trap that others have fallen into. mlm exist who do fit into the stereotypical idea of a mlm; however, I think it’s important to show a variety of people, and I’m concerned that that will not happen.
TL;DR starkid representation has been hit or miss, but it’s getting better, and I can only hope that it continues to improve.

carol denning is a lesbian with internalized lesbophobia and compulsory heterosexuality
i have a lot of feelings about carol's sexuality that have been on my mind since i finished s6, mostly because i really identify with carol in the ways of personally experienced lesbianism (and definitely not in the drowning-your-sister-in-a-frozen-lake variety). i've not seen anyone talk in depth about carol being a deeply closeted lesbian and i think it's definitely pretty plausible, so i figured i'd give it a go and try to be as coherent as possible in writing down my thoughts. under the cut for length!
carol is desperate for acceptance and love. she wants to fit in. how could a lesbian ever be anything but an outcast? especially considering the time she grew up in. carol is almost obnoxious in how often she makes it a point to mention that she is, indeed, attracted to men! men in her playgirl magazines. burt reynolds. that guy who's mustache she made sure to mention she really liked at the diner, said specifically to gauge a response, surrounded by her heterosexual female peers who all giggled in response. it's as if she's overcompensating for her insecurity about actually being a lesbian, trying to make it as in-your-face as possible about being attracted to men. she doesn’t appear to act this way before she’s in prison, either.
we all know it’s silly to say that gay looks or acts a certain way, but at the same time... there’s a reason why all of our collective gaydars went off when young carol was introduced. she sits with her legs wide open. she wears flannel shirts and rainbow gloves, and was incredibly descriptive about the whole "gonna shuck her oyster and suck it raw" thing with barb. i feel like it's very plausible that carol could have been clocked as a lesbian by classmates before due to the way she looks and acts, both of which are very, very blatantly lesbian - which likely only contributed further to carol's inner denial and shame, and her personal need to try and make it as abundantly clear as possible that she's Completely Straight, Actually. many lesbians have been shamed for being lesbians before even coming to accept themselves in childhood, which makes it harder for them to accept later on in life. for someone who was raised like carol was, it’s even worse.
ashley jordyn, in her reddit AMA, has said that carol doesn't know her sexuality and would love anyone that loves her back (”but no one ever loves carol, anyways”). carol has been struggling with herself her entire life, never feeling good enough and wondering what she could do to really be worth something to someone. i feel like there'd definitely be a point in her life where she wondered if a man loved her, could she love them back? at least it'd be somebody, which is better than nobody... right? considering that her homelife was heavily implied to be abusive, and how carol was made to feel like she was a disappointment to everyone around her, it'd make sense for her to just want to be loved for once in her life, no matter who that love came from. plus, to be with a man would make her less of a misfit than she already was. for a lesbian with internalized lesbophobia, it's the ideal route to go. however, i think everything truly fell into place for carol when she met frieda and she realized deep down that only a woman could make her feel whole, and that burt reynolds or any other man for that matter could never compare.
her "attraction" to men seems superficial when compared to how she felt for frieda, her only friend and possibly one of the only people she's ever loved. while she fawns over male celebrities and men in magazines (men who are realistically unavailable to her, which is common for lesbians experiencing compulsory heterosexuality) she feels genuine affection for frieda. she likes being close to frieda. she holds frieda’s hands, tells her that meeting her is the best thing that’s ever happened to her. the look on carol's face after she realizes frieda betrayed her isn't one of immediate anger. she's confused, and then hurt, her lip trembles as if she’s about to cry when she realizes the person (the girl, rather) she thought actually cared about her back for the first time in her life was, in reality, using her. if carol was a closeted lesbian, this betrayal would hurt her even more. to finally let a woman into her life and be her genuine self after denying who she was, only to be backstabbed in the worst way possible. we obviously see that carol held that grudge for the 30 years to come. i think after what frieda did to her, carol likely opted to lock up her true feelings as best as she could so that she would never stand the chance of being hurt again. it’s not love but instead hate that keeps her warm at night, after all. that means there was no longer any chance of self-acceptance, considering that she was likely done bothering with feelings for her own good.
present-day carol keeps her straight front. makes sure to explicitly mention barb’s “dyke squad” and says that if she wanted someone smooth she’d just date a woman. again, it’s overcompensation. “i’m not like barb’s dykes. i’m totally and completely straight! hey i’d sit on that magazine dude’s face even though i’ve never actually given a shit about real men. also all i do is sit around and think about frieda constantly, i’m not gay though.” think about it. when has carol ever expressed interest in a real man that wasn’t in a magazine, or made up just to impress people?
the only time we ever see carol express what seems to be genuine emotion aside from when she’s with frieda in her flashbacks is when alex comes to talk to her about having badison leave piper alone. carol looks at alex with a gentle smile, completely calm, and tells alex in a tender voice that she must really love piper, like she’s remembering in that moment what it is to really love someone (to love frieda). you can’t possibly tell me this is a coincidence from the writer’s end, and henny russell and ashley jordyn both are very open to the idea of carol being a lesbian icon.
a lot of this turned into me pushing carol/frieda but i'm pretty sure we all agree that carol was in love with frieda so it's fine, right? in the end, i really wish that carol had survived season 6. that way, she could finally have had a chance to advance individually beyond her petty war with barb, and even possibly meet frieda again - perhaps physically handicapped from the wounds she got from barb so she'd be unable to actually kill frieda, and instead forced to face old feelings she'd long since stored away. would both of those things combined finally have allowed carol's stilled heart to open up against her will? the character development could have been incredible, and i definitely would have loved a road to self-acceptance be one of those developments. i always desperately wish for more lesbian discovery character arcs, especially from older characters, since it happens in real life all the time. it's never too late to learn to be who you are. and my self-indulgent side would have loved to see more flashbacks with young carol and frieda, maybe confirming a possible past relationship or romantic feelings beyond fan speculation. or even flashbacks with carol having lesbian flings with other inmates but swearing she’s not actually gay. flashbacks of carol before prison having feelings for girls and trying to push them down. the possibilities for this woman’s lesbian potential could have been endless.
anyways. i love you carol, you big bad lesbian. you deserved a girlfriend for your troubles.

A continuation of this.
Rachel Berry gets a boyfriend. He’s some senior guy named Brody, and he lives in an apartment off campus. Santana met him exactly one time, when he was picking up Rachel, and she thinks he’s the creepiest human being in the entire world. But Rachel is in love, apparently, and she practically moves in with him, leaving Santana with their room all to herself most nights. She’s definitely not complaining about that, since she’s come to love sleeping next to Brittany, even in her small twin sized bed. Brittany is soft and warm, and Santana’s head really feels like it was made to fit in the crook of her neck whenever they lay together.
After a long night of studying for Brittany’s re-test in Dr. Corcoran’s class, they fall into bed together, and Santana explores Brittany’s body in a way she hasn’t before. She’s still shy when it comes to sex, but she’s becoming a little more confident than she was before. She loves the way she can make Brittany moan. She loves feeling Brittany’s fingers tighten in her hair. She loves that sometimes she has to wake up and find a sweatshirt that will cover the love bites left on her neck. And most of all, she loves Brittany, this absolutely incredible girl who makes her feel like she never has before.
Usually, after sex, Santana is quick to get dressed. She’s never sure when Rachel might pop up in the room—though luckily, she always fumbles with the lock on the door, giving them time to get out of any compromising situation, which is usually just Brittany’s hand down Santana’s sweatpants while they’re watching a movie—and mostly, she’s insecure about her body, and doesn’t love being naked. But tonight, they’re pressed front to front beneath the sheets, and Santana is in no rush to get out of bed. Brittany keeps kissing her lazily, and Santana nuzzles her nose, feeling comfortable and cozy in bed beside her.
“Where’d you get this?” Brittany asks, tracing her finger over a long scar on Santana’s shoulder.
“I fell out of a tree when I was nine, right onto a broken branch. I broke my arm, and got seventeen stitches there.”
“Did it hurt?”
“Like hell.” Santana laughs a little. “My mom even let me say fuck over and over again, because she knew how bad it was.”
“It looks like it.”
“It’s hard for me to be naked. I feel like my body gives away so much.” She confesses, as Brittany looks at her through the sheets.
“You don’t think my body does?”
“Your body is flawless. You’re so beautiful, and it makes me feel inferior sometimes.”
“It’s so strange to me that you don’t think you’re beautiful too.”
“I never have. And I feel like, I don’t know, like my every secret is revealed when you look at me.”
“Do you want me to tell you a secret about my body?” Brittany asks, pressing her palm to the side of Santana’s face.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
“I want to tell you everything, Santana. There’s so much to me that happened before you came into my life, and if I don’t tell you, you might never know.”
“Okay.” Santana nods slowly, and she feels Brittany’s hand snake beneath the sheets to clasp hers.
“I had a really bad eating disorder when I was in high school.” She whispers. “I ended up being hospitalized for two months.”
“You were?”
“I was. My cheerleading coach was really...strict about weight, and it got to the point where I really internalized it. I started on this master cleanse thing, and it all spiraled out of control from there. I pretty much stopped consuming anything but these cayenne pepper drinks, I dropped down under a hundred pounds, and my hair started to fall out.”
“Is that how your parents found out?”
“No, actually. They’re a little...absentminded, but one of the girls on my squad told Coach, and it sort of just happened from there. I told people at school that I was lost in the sewers for the summer, but I was actually at in inpatient facility where I couldn’t even use the phone.”
“I wouldn’t have known.” Santana murmurs, feeling the urge to kiss Brittany everywhere, to let her know how beautiful she thinks she is, how utterly perfect.
“I know. I’m mostly okay now. I still have some dumb days where I look in the mirror and feel disgusting, but I learned how to have a good relationship with food.”
“I’m glad. If you ever feel like I’m—“
“I don’t.” Brittany cuts her off. “I know sometimes you get busy and only eat granola bars and stuff, but that’s why I try to keep a regular routine with meals and always go to the dining hall.”
“I’m really proud of you. I can’t imagine how hard that was for you. I can only like...abstractly comprehend how women’s bodies are subjugated. I feel like I write about it a lot, but I’ve never experienced it.”
“I guess I just wanted to be good at something. I was really good at controlling what I put in my mouth, so...”
“I wish I could have been there to tell you that you were good at other things.”
“You tell me now. Being in a relationship with you is good for me. I know that sometimes you get insecure about things, but mostly, you’re really proud to be who you are. I see it in the way you dress, and how you walk around with your rainbow bracelets on. I don’t know, you’ve just never let anyone else define you, and I think that’s really cool.”
“I kind of did for awhile.” Santana squeezes Brittany’s hand. “I tried to be cool or whatever, but I still wasn’t. Mostly I just felt like crap because I wasn’t doing the things that made me happy. I know it’s super lame that I get really into like, fictional stuff or whatever, but it helped me be okay with my identity. You know about my grandma, and I guess I internalized a lot of things when I was growing up too. I wasn’t supposed to be queer, you know? I was supposed to have that whole white dress wedding thing when I was like twenty-two, with some nice boy from Lima. As much as my parents accepted me, I guess they had certain expectations when they had a little girl. I’m their only one, so I felt like I’d be letting them down if I didn’t turn out to be who they thought.”
“They’re proud of you though, right?”
“They really are. And they like you a lot. It’s weird, I guess you’re the first thing that really proved to them I was gay or something. I was kinda worried about them seeing it manifest, or whatever. You know what I mean, like, I was a safe lesbian because I wasn’t really acting upon it?”
“I get that. But they were great about it. Even at your grandmother’s funeral, they really seemed like they were interested in our relationship.”
“They were, and they are. I mean, I talk to my mom every day, and she always wants to know how you are.”
“I think that’s really cool.” Brittany smiles, and kisses Santana’s lips.
“But anyway, that was all completely tangential. My point was, I wasn’t totally okay with being into my weird stuff, and I tried to not be, but ultimately, I was happier being how I am.”
“I’m happy how you are too. You talk about things that no one else does, and I love it.”
“Britt?” Santana runs her hand up Brittany’s side, and then holds her face.
“Yeah?”
“I’m really happy you’re okay now.”

Since it’s pride month I’ve been seeing a lot of people making lists of books with LGBT characters, which I think is a wonderful thing to do. However, there are a lot of books with LGBT characters that may not have a happy ending or that may focus entirely on troubling issues such as discrimination or the AIDs crisis. While these are certainly important topics, I wanted to share a list of books that may have a much happier message.
