Damage Control - Chapter 18
"My faith is in people, I guess. Individuals. And I'm happy to say for the most part, they haven't let me down. Which is why I can't let them down either.
I know you were only doing what you believe in, and that's all any of us can do. It’s all any of us should.
So no matter what, I promise you:
If you need us, if you need me, I’ll be there."
Tumblr media
“Ok, repeat it back to me.”
“Robin, I swear I’m—”
“—Oh my god, please just shut up and repeat it.”
She shoots her friend a glare, before rolling her eyes with a defeated sigh.
“Fine. I was going into work that morning when the pro-SRA organization ambushed me with the petition, and they wouldn’t leave me alone until I signed it.”
“Ok. Good. Just…” Her friend brushes a hand through her hair, watching her worriedly.
"You’ll be okay, right?”
She nods, trying to give her a reassuring smile.
“Yeah, Rob, I’ll be fine.”
She shudders a little, glancing over at the giant set of opaque glass doors next to them. Awaiting behind them was Nick Fury’s office. Although technically a ‘performance’ review, every employee at her company knew that: 1) Fury never does employee performance reviews, and 2) her little stunt from months ago, which had been making national headlines all week, had generated several concerns amongst SHIELD board members, to put it lightly.
Seeing as how rare it is for a lower-level agent to have a one-on-one meeting with Fury, she already knows this is probably a long-winded way to terminate her position at SHIELD. She’s spent the entire day preparing herself for whatever Fury was going to yell her way—in consideration for her friend, however, who seemed twice as nervous as she was, she tries hard to act hopeful.
“You’ll… you’ll be fine.” Robin mutters to herself, straightening the edges of her blazer before a loud buzz in her pocket catches her attention.
“Shit. They need me back at the office. Call me as soon as you’re do—”
Robin is suddenly interrupted by the sound of the door opening beside them.
When she looks up, she comes face-to-face with a bright white star.
Her eyes flit down to the red-and-white stripes running down his abdomen, brown belt holstered round his hip. Rough, blue fabric makes up the rest of his uniform, running up his arms and converging at the silver-white star on his chest, just above her line of sight. Her gaze dares to travel up, further, following the swell of his biceps, the tense lines of his shoulders, the sharp shadow under his jaw. He’s still got a faint line or two where his injuries were deepest, but most of his scars had healed like they had never happened in the first place. When her eyes reach his blue-green irises, he meets her gaze for a split second before diverting just as quickly, turning his head to the side. Abruptly, he steps aside, moving behind Robin with a quiet ‘excuse me’ before continuing down the hallway.
She blinks, her head turning involuntarily as her eyes follow the giant shield on his back, gazing longingly.
From behind her, Maria Hill shuffles out of Fury’s office with an awkward cough. Her head whips around, and is met with a sympathetic smile and a weak nod.
“Come on in.”
Her heels click across the marble floor as she closes the door behind her, spotting Fury seated at a large conference table in the far corner of his office. The sheer size and grandiosity of the room, with its open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling windows, made her own office look like a child’s playroom.
As she begins the terrifying walk to her inevitable demise, she’s struck with the confusing realization that it’s not her job she’s worried about. As her mind races through all the reasons for Steve’s unexpected appearance, she’s acutely aware of everything he could’ve told Fury, to get her suspended or fired from her job. He could have divulged information about the personal grudges she has against the Avengers, against SHIELD. How she could’ve let them interfere with her job. How, in a way, she already has.
Yet, the only thing her mind can focus on is the look on his face standing outside of Fury’s office, his gaze just before he turned his head to the side.
‘If you knew that I wasn’t some freak? Some threat that needs to be monitored?’
She draws in a shaky breath, before exhaling.
Whatever Steve had to say to Fury before she walked in, whatever happens as a result of this meeting, she deserved it.
She swallows the nervous ball lodged in her throat, and any thoughts about using the excuses she’s rehearsed with Robin wipes clean from her mind.
She approaches the table, sliding into a plush office chair across from Fury’s. A giant slab of sleek black marble, almost 10 feet long, divides them.
“Agent,” He speaks, voice booming even across the wide expanse of space. His tone is calm, without a trace of resentment or anger. Yet, his shoulders are tense, tight around his neck. There’s a small twitch in his brow as he speaks.
“I’m sure you understand why you’re here.”
“Yes, sir.”
He sighs, and she’s not sure whether it's anger or resentment that etches into his voice.
“Agent, where you choose to express your personal beliefs is up to you.”
He pauses a little at the word ‘beliefs,’ brows furrowing as if it evokes a bitter taste on his tongue.
She nods again, the knot tightening at the bottom of her stomach—she had a little inkling about where this was going.
“Yet you understand that when there’s all this press about a SHIELD agent showing up to an SRA rally…” He leans in, hands folded in front of him.
“… it puts the integrity of SHIELD at risk."
She doesn’t nod again, just focuses on how sweaty her palms had grown, shallow breaths hitching in her throat. She fiddles with the edge of her blouse, eyes lowering to her lap, and suddenly regrets every association she’s had with the pro-SRA organization. What had made her sign that petition so boldly?
“In light of all this, I was planning on suggesting a temporary suspension for you to the administrative board.”
Shit. There it was.
Out of the corner of her eye, she notices Fury lean back in his chair, glancing out the window. Then, with an incredulous tone, like even he couldn’t believe what he’s saying, he adds:
“Until Cap decided to vouch for you.”
Wait, what?
Her eyes snap up, wide and round. She frowns, a small crease forming between her brows.
“I’m sorry, sir, I don’t understa—”
“—he showed up here with a whole speech about how SHIELD shouldn’t discipline you. Said it would be… foolish of me to punish you for sticking to your beliefs.”
For a moment, she expects him to burst out into an angered speech, or perhaps even laughter—was this some sort of elaborate prank? Then, Fury lets out a loud sigh, and she watches the pressure from his shoulders completely dissipate.
He looks up, shrugging earnestly.
“And frankly I agreed with him.”
“I… thank you, director.” She’s truly at a lost for words when she spots his lips twitch, the corner of his mouth raising just the slightest amount in an attempt at a smile.
“Don’t thank me, agent. Thank Rogers.” His heard jerks in the direction of the door, signifying the end of the meeting.
She nods, pursing her lips, and stands up. With a quiet ‘thank you,’ she exits Fury’s office.
Her arms feel like they’re made of yarn when she pushes against the heavy doors, stumbling out and finally catching her breath.
She takes in a deep breath, and shudders out a relieved breath.
She’s not fired.
Not even suspended.
More importantly, Steve had been there to vouch for her.
“What’d he say?”
Her eyes snap up at the sound of a deep voice from across the hall. Steve’s leant against the wall right outside of Fury’s office, arms across his chest, still dressed in full combat uniform.
“What did you do?”
He purses his lip, uncrossing his arms and taking a step in her direction.
“Not here.” He mutters before turning on his heels, casting her the subtlest of glances: indication for her to follow.
As she trails behind him, down the winding hallways of SHIELD HQ, her eyes find it hard to look at the white star mounted on his back, shining like a blinding beacon. So, she focuses on the marbled tiles on the floor instead, counting the thin, black veins that run through the white. Yet, even that isn’t enough to distract her from the whispers and glances of employees that pass them by. Most notice the man walking in front of her first, his characteristic stride tall and commanding, staring up in awe or giving him a small greeting. Soon, though, they spot her, and their expression changes. She doesn’t have to guess what’s running through their mind, seeing as how her little vendetta against the Avengers had already made national headlines.
Thankfully, her walk of shame is rather short-lived, as Steve stops in front of an empty conference room somewhere at the end of the hall. Opening it with a voice command, he moves aside for her to step in first, and she complies.
With her back facing him, she silently fists both hands at her sides, in an attempt to stop her fingers from trembling so goddamn much. She hears the glass door slide shut behind him, and only then does she open her mouth, voice coming out in a quivering whisper.
“Thank you.”
Her eyes flutter shut, and she focuses on the quiet drone of the AC as it starts up again.
She hears quiet shuffling as he takes a take a small step toward her.
His voice is quiet, deep as ever as he speaks.
“You don’t need to thank me.”
“Yes, I do. If…” She sighs, turning around to notice that his gaze was fixed on the ground.
“…if it weren’t for you, I would’ve been suspended, maybe even fired—”
He shakes his head, brows furrowed pensively.
“—someone else would’ve vouched for you. Tony, Sam.”
She blinks, biting her lip.
“I-I dont…” She frowns, shaking her head, and takes a step closer. When she opens her mouth again, her voice is a quivering whisper—any louder, she’s afraid it would break.
“Why’d you do it?”
At that he lets out a drawn out sigh, and the divot between his brows disappear as the tension in his face dissipates. He looks up, deep blue eyes boring into hers.
“For as long as I could remember, I just wanted to do what was right. To me, opposing the SRA was the only way to protect the people I care about.”
He looks up, meeting her gaze. For the first time in a while, he gives her a smile.
“Then I realized that… you were only doing the same. Doing what you believe in. To protect the people you love. And that’s all we can do.”
He takes a step forward, eyes so sincere and vulnerable she forgets how to breathe.
“… all we should."
“Is that what you told Fury?” She chokes out, a mixture of relief and adoration taking her by storm, emotion swelling up in her throat. Her nose stings, tears starting to crowd her vision.
“I just told him the truth. That you’re an amazing agent and that SHIELD couldn’t afford to lose you.”
The words come out of his mouth so matter-of-factly, like it was the most concrete truth he’s ever known, and that draws her over the edge. Her heels click rapidly against the floor, closing the few feet of wretched space that separates them. She throws her arms around his neck, crashing her lips against his. For a moment, his body freezes, as she feels the muscles in his shoulders tense beneath her hands.
Then, slowly, his hands lower to the small of her back, arms snaking around her waist as he bends down. She feels his hand cup her face, silently wiping an errant tear that had fallen onto her cheek as he tilts his head, deepening the kiss.
It’s a frenzied blur of rushed breaths and warm touches after that—both her hands grip tightly to the leather harnesses on the front of his uniform, guiding her steps as she walks backward to the table behind them. His hands slide down to the back of her thighs, lifting her effortlessly onto the surface. Warm fingers trace along under the bottom of her blouse, where it had been neatly tucked into her pencil skirt.
She reaches around, desperately trying to find the seam to his goddamn airtight uniform. She search blindly for a button, a seam, a zipper—anything. All the while, he’s chasing her lips like the fate of the world depends on it.
“Fuck, how the fuck do you get this thing off?” She pants, pulling back from his lips as she finally admits defeat.
He laughs into the corner of her mouth, giving her another peck before he pulls back.
“We should probably wait until we’re somewhere more… private?”
She sighs, nodding, trying not to think about how many security cameras must’ve been installed in this room.
Hips resting between the space between her legs, he leans forward, quietly wrapping his arms around her frame and drawing her in for a hug. She leans into his chest as she feels him let out of a content sigh, resting his chin on top of her head.
“How do you do it?”
She whispers into the star on his chest, the rough patch of fabric on Steve’s uniform digging into her cheek. He remains quiet, gently stroking her back as silent encouragement.
“Have so much faith in… people, individuals?”
He leans back a little, looking down meet her gaze, so warm and deep and blue. It reminds her of the first time they had spoken, on that roof at Tony’s party.
“How do you know they’ll do the right thing?”
He smiles a little, as if her question had the most obvious answer in the whole world.
“Because that’s the same kind of faith people put in us everyday.”
She huffs out a breath she hadn’t known she’d been holding in, a wide smile spreading on her face as she feels her cheeks grow warm. She doesn’t know whose the first to lean in, but soon his lips are back on hers, warm palm framing the side of her face.
He breathes in deep, nose pressing into her cheek as he shifts to hold her closer, hand sliding to the back of her head while his fingers thread through her hair.
His lips are hesitant when they pull back, hovering just inches above hers.
With their forehead still pressed together, her eyes flit across the small scars he’s still got remaining on his upper lip, another along his jaw.
She frowns, leaning back to trace a thumb along the faint white lines.
“Those’ll be gone soon.” He murmurs quietly, detecting her silent concern, eyes half-lidded as he leans into her touch.
“But they still hurt.” She mutters, brows furrowed. Still not convinced, she scans his face for more remainders from his latest injuries.
He smiles, his hand raising to mirror her movement, thumb grazing the highest point of her cheekbone.
It’s only in that comfortable silence she realizes that: 1) he’s in full uniform, though he didn’t seem to have come back from a mission, and 2) it’s the first time she’s actually seen him in-person with the suit.
“Was all this really necessary?” She smirks, looking him up and down—had he really gotten in this thing just for his conversation with Fury?
He ducks his head for a brief moment, before his eyes flit up to meet hers. Though the corners of his lip raise shyly, still a little abashed, he stands a little taller, brows quirked with a newfound confidence. The teasing glint in his eyes sparks something new in her stomach.
“Why, you don’t like the outfit?”
“Oh, no, I like it…” She smiles to herself, tugging teasingly at one of the attachments on his belt, tracing the roughened edges of the fabric as she draws him in closer.
“… a lot.”
She leaves a teasing kiss on his lips, etching a grin onto his mouth before pulling back, slipping off the table and ducking around him.
“Do me a favor,”
She calls out, stepping in the direction of the door as straightens the collar of her shirt. She follows his eyes as they flit down to the top buttons of her blouse, where she had left them purposely undone, just as he had left them. She looks up, grinning slyly.
“Come pick me up after work…” As she gestures to his uniform, he cocks his head to the side, giving her an inquisitive smile.
“…in that.”
(And she adores him that much more, when, at a quarter past 6, he actually does show up to her building in full uniform, shocked glances from her coworkers be damned.
“You know I didn’t actually mean for you to show up as Captain America, right?”
“You didn’t? Do you want me to take it off?”
"Steve!"
She ends up adoring him even more when, later, she finds later he had meant that literally too—who knew you could fit a t-shirt and slacks underneath a suit that tight?)

The Lallybroch Chapter 4
AO3
They both drift off for a bit. Claire still laying on top of Jamie. He wakes first. What is it about this lass that has him throwing out common sense? He never did this but she couldn’t be resisted. Running his hands over the smoothness of her skin, he feels a peace like none other. She wakes and catches his eye.
“Well hello Jamie Fraser.”
“Hello Dr. Claire Beauchamp.”
She moves and he lets her go with reluctance. “I still need to unpack. I can’t believe we did that.”
He grins as he sits up. The muscles in his arms draw her attention. “Twice.”
“Yes. It has been a long time since I have been this satisfied.” She stretches and his eyes are drawn to her bare chest and those awesome breasts. He is impressed there is no awkwardness. She is hurrying to cover up.
“Glad to be of service, my lady.” He sweeps his arm out as he bends at the waist. She laughs.
“You are a ridiculous human being.” Now she stands and starts to gather clothes. “Thank you. I really needed that.”
He stands and takes his clothes. “Me too. Thank you.”
“We will continue, right?” Pulling her knickers on, she then does the pelican stance as she pulls her trousers on.
“Oh aye. I would like that.” He dresses himself. “We should talk about our histories.”
She laughs as she finds a tie and pulls her hair up. “Closing the barn door after the horse is out. Your right. It just struck me as funny.”
“We really are doing this the wrong way around.” He takes a seat at her table. The bed is to tempting. “I have had two lovers, not counting you. The first was in college. She was doing B levels and I was A. We had dated for a year before we came together. Both innocents. It was a strange and messy affair. The times after were better. The second, a lass in Paris. She taught me a lot.”
“I should thank her.” He blushes. “My first was a lad I meet in London. He was right proper about it all. That was a good thing. He prepared me and it wasn’t as painful as I anticipated. It got better. He always knew just how to touch me. The problem is, I could predict his moves.
It lasted until I found him in bed with two girls. That put paid to that. The second is you.”
He stares, mouth slightly ajar. “Me. This cheating bloke and me?”
“I had all the test and follow up tests. I am clean.”
He nods his head. “Good. I wasn’t thinking… should have been. How long ago?”
“A year. You?”
“Eighteen months. I am also clean. Never, without a rubber. I still had tests after Analise. There was no commitment. So I wanted to make sure.”
“That is good.”
“Aye. You loved him, this bloke?”
“Frank. I did. One reason I agreed to cover Dr. Yves maternity leave. A change of scenery.”
“That can help, aye.” She stands and starts putting things away.
“We were to be married. I am glad I found out before.” She’s faced away from him but he hears the emotions in her voice.
“He is a right arse.”
“Yes. What about you Jamie? Ever been in love?”
“Not yet.”
“I believe in lust at first sight. Today proves that. Love, it takes time to develop. I am not sure I want to feel it again. Simple lust is easier.”
“Not sure I blame you.” He stands. “May I help?”
“Sure . Thanks.”

cw: 18+ nsfw, coercion, slight dub-con, power dynamics, oral, slight voyeurism, virgin reader, afab reader, she/her pronouns. bakugou is in his 40's here, reader is in her 20's. all instances of lower-case letters are intentional here.
this is a dark blog, dni if you are a minor or if you're uncomfortable!
Tumblr media
"leaving?" the familiar gruff voice sent shivers down your spine, straightening up to speak to him. never speak to mr. dynamight with an attitude, you've learned that much from seeing a few co-workers lose such a promising position. "yes, just packing a few things sir." your voice was small, but attentive. there was another grunt as bakugou fixed the watch on his wrist, looking at the time.
"need ya to do a few things for me." he said with a slight spitefulness in his voice, your eye twitched but you couldn't let the annoyance show, not in the slightest. not when you're so close to becoming the pr manager. (he's been saying that for the past two months.)
"alright sir." he shifted in his spot at the response, you noticed your mistake after a few seconds. "s-sorry, i meant, that's ok mr. dynamight." he began to walk in the direction of his office, prompting you to start following behind. the soft glow of the computers and the buzzing and humming of the air conditioning resonated through the building. you end up in the lobby, where another lazy-eyed employee was making her leave, choosing to take the stairs instead upon seeing you with your boss.
bakugou pushed the button to call the elevator down to the 8th floor from the 23rd, which left the both of you standing in silence whilst waiting. you spared him a glance, not expecting his eyes to meet yours. "you've been doing what again?" of course, he didn't really care much for what the workers do. the attempt at small talk makes you uncomfortable.
just his presence alone has you feeling dizzy, you have to plant your heels into the carpet flooring to ground yourself. "i do public relations sir." "right, tch." the lobby fell silent with that same familiar buzzing sound. you could hear the cars passing by outside, wishing that you were out there now. realization struck you as you remembered you would be stuck with him again for another minute to go up to the 23rd floor.
a silent groan left your lips as the door slid open. bakugou let you walk in first, looking down the hallway cautiously before walking in himself. he pushed the button for the floor in which his office was on, you've only been in there once or twice for a few inside jobs he would assign you. all you can remember is that it's absolutely luxurious, and has a good view of tokyo.
would be nice if he'd throw you over his desk-
you puffed your cheeks out with a very audible squeak to rid of the unholy and unprofessional thoughts. he furrowed his eyebrows at you in concern as you muttered a quick "sorry." bakugou shrugged, going back to staring at the ceiling lights of the elevator, remembering to order an electrician for the flickering bulbs.
where did such thoughts of him come from? all you could remember is how much you were incredibly intimidated by your boss. were you turned on by that? your thighs shuffled as a feeling began to pool in your tummy. 'alone time with the hitachi wand it is tonight.' you thought to yourself. the intense arousal only got worse as you breathed in what you could smell of him.
the door opened before things could get even more awkward, bakugou allowed you to step out before him once again. the door to his office was just a few doors down to the right, incredibly large mahogany wood double doors with gold-plated handles. intricately carved by only the best craftsman. "just need you to help me sort out a few files, pretty sure ya don't have much better to do at home."
he opened the doors after he passively insulted you, but you could care less that he did. he had soft music playing, some frank sinatra, as a show played on his wall-mounted tv. you looked over to the beautiful view of the night sky outside of the large panels of incredibly strong glass. "beautiful..." you breathed out, hearing footsteps approaching. your face met your boss' chest as you turned to meet him, you stepped back with incredible apprehension.
"i actually brought you up here," he paused, stepping a bit closer to you, "to make a deal." were you finally getting promoted? your body began to slightly tremble with clear excitement. you looked up at your boss with those wide doe eyes. "you're working in the pr department, you should know that..." he stopped again, choosing his words wisely as to not scare you away, "me having a significant other can boost my public image, no?" your eyebrows raised, that wasn't what you were exactly expecting, but bakugou gave you a moment for the gears to turn in your head.
"oh." it finally dawned on you what exactly he was getting at. "took your ass long enough." he grunted. "b-but why me? there are so many other eligible women." bakugou seemed just about ready to get annoyed, you should've just said yes by now. "you're pretty, smart, you'll know exactly what to say in front of those cameras, and i've had my eyes on you for a while doll face." he eyes you like a hunter to his prey. "think about it, you live with me in a huge mansion, you get a promotion like you've wanted, benefits everywhere you go. and who doesn't want to wake up every morning beside me?" he grins cockily.
it's a wonderful offer, you felt your heart flutter when bakugou admitted to liking you. but you weren't inclined to be in front of the spotlight, the thought alone made you shiver. how much of your privacy would be gone, daily life would become a hassle. reluctantly, you shook your head no, about to voice your concerns when bakugou pulled you in to kiss you harshly. the fire that had already been ignited in your tummy burned even brighter, the flames threatening to push you over the edge. you gripped his bulky and impressive biceps to hold yourself, moaning softly at the way he'd gnaw at your bottom lip.
bakugou lifted you up to take you into his arms while he continued his assault on your sore, plump lips. you felt so light-headed, this has been your dream for the longest time. but you felt a voice that was telling you to not let this escalate, that this could be poor for his image. he put you down on the desk that still had papers on top, momentarily taking a breath before diving back in. you put your hand on his chest. "sir, this isn't something you'd want. i don't want to ruin your reputation." bakugou put on a scowl, "who gives a fuck?" he interrupted whatever you were going to say next with another harsh peck, tongue poking at your lips to be granted access.
your panties were soaked, and your nipples were evidently hard through your dress shirt. your tongues danced in perfect synchronization, your eyes opened to see his own, half-lidden crimson orbs telling you exactly what he wanted. you felt the need to tell him that you were a virgin, but you were afraid it would ruin the perfect moment. bakugou pulled back to stare at you, flushed and sweating underneath him. "so sexy." he brings his head to your jaw to place a few light kisses, then slowly he went down further to bite at your neck, suckling with a slight amount of roughness but not exactly leaving hickeys, that would wait until later.
you wanted to release more noises, to let him know that you were enjoying it, but you were too shy. you were whimpering and gasping as you pawed at his blond locks. you felt his tongue drag over the spots that he bit at, the saliva sticking to your skin and cooling down. suddenly, he growled which alarmed you a bit. you noticed he was fixing his pants which sported a wonderful bulge. "fuck, i don't think i can hold back much longer princess." he stood up straight to unbuckle his belt, pushing his pants down enough to expose his length which stood up straight and tall.
you were practically drooling over him, hearing him chuckle snapped you out of your daze. "oi, never seen one of these before?" bakugou teased. "not exactly..." you whispered. he smiled an uncharacteristically soft smile. "touch it. i'll teach you how to please a man." you sat up to do what you were told. your fingertips curiously rubbed at the very tip of his leaking cock, gathering the white fluids to observe it. he groaned softly, anticipating your next move. you wrapped your hand around his shaft, noting how hot it felt, twitching underneath your grasp. "a-ah-" you gasped, mesmerized.
"move your hand." bakugou ordered, you followed, starting with slow and steady movements. you only had porn to go by, which wasn't much but exaggerated facial expressions and noises. up and down, up and down, you repeated the motion with a newfound sense of determination. you wanted him to cum on you, to cover your face with whatever he had to give you. this side of bakugou wasn't one that you were expecting to see in a million years, but how fortunate were you? his face red, him biting back moans and groans.
you moved your hand faster, it had no rhythm to it but it did feel good so the male above you didn't complain. he felt the rush of his high coming, and you could tell with how much more sensitive he got. but bakugou stopped you before he could release, panting breathlessly. "open your mouth doll." your lips parted on demand, he rested his tip on your tongue for a moment to prepare you for the rest. as his cock pushed into your wet and dripping cavern, you got a taste of his precum. the musk coming from his length made in between your legs ache once again.
"atta girl..." bakugou praised, holding your head with both of his hands. you felt like choking, the size being overwhelming but you held back, tears springing up at your eyes. your tongue began to swirl around whatever it could, you looked up to him with a lust-filled gaze that only turned him on more. you pulled off of him, "use me as you'd like." you whispered, going back to engulf his cock. he began to thrust in your mouth, using your hole to get himself off. bakugou had flings here and there, but it was impressive how a virgin could make him feel better than any of the experienced ones. he moaned shakily, teeth clenching as an attempt to keep his composure.
bakugou was already close from the handjob you gave him, soon enough he held your head in place to welcome his hot cum into your mouth, the flavor overwhelming your senses. you coughed around his length, prompting him to slide it out of your mouth so you could recover. you took a breath, grimacing at the slight pain in your jaw and lungs. "we're not done." he said, gripping your thighs to part them. "ever thought of having sex where thousands of people could see you?"

when Natasha had you, she knew that it was the best bet to keep you out of the public eye. it wasn't that she wanted to keep you locked up in the house all day but she knew there were far too many risks when it came to introducing you.  it was easy for her to keep you in her sight when you were younger but the older you got, you began to crave more than just visits to Clint's house. she secretly hated that you were older now because she knew you need more and when you uttered that out to her, she couldn't stand the puppy dog eyes you were giving her. "okay fine." she rolled her eyes as you squealed, relieved that she was understanding enough.
so with that, Natasha allowed occasional outings, warning you that you had a set time to be back because she couldn't stand the idea of you being alone in the middle of the night. you were understanding of that, promising that nothing would stop you from returning home before the sunset.
---
Natasha was gone for the day, leaving just after she made you breakfast and despite promising your mom that you wouldn't leave without telling her first, you had just finished your last book. you wished that you picked an extra one-up the last time you were out because now boredom struck and you had nothing else to do. you knew you could make it back before your mom ever returned home so with that you dressed, checking the time before you went. 1:22 pm. you had more than enough time you reminded yourself with a small grin.
knowing that you weren't allowed to be out, only made it more exciting. you hardly ever broke rules when it came to your mom, not only because she was intimidating but because you respected her and you knew she always had your best interest in mind. you finally reached your favorite book shop with a certain book in mind already you moved through the small shop. you browsed for a moment, not turning up with anything more interesting than the book that you saw last time. you knew exactly where it was because you knew that store like the back of your hand so you moved to the section you could find it, grinning when you saw that there was only one left. you hardly noticed the girl beside you until you reached forward to grab the book just as she did, her hand softly brushing against yours. you shyly retrieved your hand, your gaze fixed to the floor. "sorry." you uttered out causing the girl beside you to chuckle lightly.
"it's okay," she reassured, nudging you lightly with said book causing you to look up at her, only now taking note of her breathtaking features. you could feel your heart pound in your throat as you swallowed hard, she had been smiling sweetly at you, far more relaxed than you. "here, take it." she offered but you quickly shook your head. "you can have it, I'll wait for the restock," you muttered despite, really wanting to read that exact book. she shook her head, her smile growing with every passing second.
"I couldn't," she muttered, extending her hand forward for you to take the book but when you didn't move a muscle, the girl sighed, the smile still prominent on her lips. "how about this-" she paused for a moment when she noticed that she had peeped your interest. your eyebrows rose in question waiting patiently for her proposal. "I'll give you the book if you buy me a coffee," she stated, her smile growing when your cheeks seemed to flush over.  "it's only fair," she stated, shrugging lightly.
you knew your mother always warned you about strangers but your interest in the young woman had been strong and you couldn't help but wanna get to know her more so with a nod, you took the book from her hand, letting her follow you through the shop and out the door.
she uttered out her coffee order to you, smiling when you moved to go to the counter. she called out that she'd find both of your seats. you could feel your heart pound as you made your way over to the table that she settled down on, placing her mug right in front of her. she had been looking through the book, setting it aside when you came to greet her. "you're gonna like the book." she whispered causing you to nod lightly.
"I hope so, I've been meaning to buy it," you stated, her expressions had been soft as she brought the hot mug to her lips, looking over at you from over the top of it. once the awkwardness of the situation died down, the conversation seemed to flow naturally and you noticed that you were losing all of yourself in the conversation, time hadn't been a thing.
realization seemed to dawn on you when the shop owner announced that they'd be closed in less than 5 minutes and then your heart sunk and you felt the nervousness eat at your once joyful mood. "I had a really good time, wanda but I gotta go," you whispered suddenly noticing that the sunset and the street were lit up by the streetlights, there hadn't been a sign of sun anywhere. "let me take you home." she offered but you knew your mom would throw even more of a cow if she knew you gave your address to a stranger. "thank you but I'm okay." before wanda could even completely process what happened, you were gone.
you looked at your watch, reading the time only made you feel so much worse. 8:56 pm. you let out a soft sigh, rushing home as quickly as possible. you were breathing heavy and hard when you finally made it to your house, hoping that the redhead was still stuck at work.
you opened the door after catching your breath, meeting the faces of every Avenger. they had all been like uncles to you but you'd never seen them all in the same room, suited up before. it made you feel guilty, you knew you had worried them before you could even talk, Natasha rushed over to you, her fear outweighed any anger she felt because you were okay and that's the most important thing to her. "oh my god! where were you? what would you thinking?" she rambled, tugging you into a tight hug that you melted into, feeling yourself relax because she wasn't as mad as you thought.
you spoke too soon because as soon as she pulled away from the hug, you could see her relieved expression turn into pure anger because how could you leave and have her worry like that?
"what were you thinking, Y/n Romanoff?" the use of your full name made your eyes widen as you stared back at the woman who gave you life. "I wanted a book." you stated softly causing a huff to slip past her lips. "you couldn't pick up your phone? that's why you have it y/n! I called at least a hundred times!"
your gaze snapped from her eyes to the floor, finding it to be the most interesting thing right about now. "I even had to call uncle tony, steve, and bruce. you know how worried you made us?" you swallowed hard, hating the feeling of disappointment. "don't you ever do that again, you hear me?" she lectured causing you to mutter out a soft 'yes ma'am'.
"go to your room." she was done as she turned away from you, you didn't think twice before speed walking up those stairs and into your room.
it only now dawned on you that you didn't get the girl's number. the only proof of your day was the book and coffee receipt. sighing softly, you set the paper aside, taking a seat on the foot of your bed, staring down at the book in disappointment. it wasn't until you flip open the book and settled on the front page did the lecture you received from your mom seem worth it because on the paper, neat handwriting could be made out. you smiled down at it, feeling your heart skipped a beat tracing the words with your pointer finger.
I still want the book, call me when you're finished - wanda
you smiled down at the number in disbelief, determined to finish the book as quickly as possible so you could call wanda.
you read the book much faster than expected, you were eager to finish it and when you finally called wanda to tell her that she could have the book, muttering about how good you thought it was, she had been grinning madly because almost every day she waited by her phone hoping and praying that it'd ring and now she could hear your voice so clearly. she didn't hesitate to cut you off about the book and ask you on a date.
-----
as much as you enjoyed having your mom around, you were glad when she told you she'd be out that day because it gave you the chance to invite wanda over for dinner. wanda happily accepted the invite, glad that she would finally spend some alone time with you.
for the past couple of months, you’ve had occasional meet-ups at coffee shops and restaurants but Wanda always wanted more and now she had been given exactly what she wanted. she couldn't be more excited.
your excitement seemed to wear off when your mom arrived home much early than expected, questioning you about the candles and seemingly put-together dinner. your eyes flushed over, stumbling over your words when you told her you had a date and thought she'd be out much longer. she wiggled her eyebrows at you, a smirk playing on her lips. she knew that you had been involved with someone because one day after returning from a date with wanda, you had been too giddy and couldn't hold back when she asked you why you were so happy.
"I can't wait to finally meet this mystery girl." she teased, smiling at the redness in your cheeks. you knew she'd met her eventually but you were still nervous, your mom had always been a hard person to please and you wanted her to like Wanda as much as you did.
when the knock at your door sounded, your mom's eyes met yours, her grin grew even more. "I got it," she spoke, her voice filled with excitement before you could even stop her from opening the door, she had already been there, turning the doorknob with ease. you took a couple of steps forward to stand behind your mom so the girl didn't feel too bombarded.
when the door was pulled open, her smile was the first thing you saw, and then it was the flowers she held, you could feel your heart swoon but then you noticed the way her smile dropped when she looked at your mom, confusion written in her expressions. "Wanda?" Natasha uttered out as she looked over the girl intensely enough to make the girl's gaze drop to the ground. "what are you doing here?" your mother questioned as she stared blankly at the youngest Avenger. "I'm here for-"
"you know each other?" you suddenly questioned, looking between wanda and your mom. you searched their faces for an answer but turned up with nothing until your mom spoke softly. "she's been recruited." that was enough for you to know exactly what your mom meant.
Natasha couldn't be upset at Wanda, there was no way she could've ever known that you were her child and if she was honest, she was glad wanda turned up instead of an unfamiliar face. "come in, wanda." your mom's voice came out gentle and almost reassuring.
"aren't you supposed to be on lockdown?" she questioned once wanda had entered and taken her coat off, holding the roses tightly in her hands.
it finally occurred to Natasha why the witch was never around. every time they had been looking for wanda, she was with you.
"cap let me out for the day." she lied causing Natasha to raise an eyebrow at the teenager but she didn't press. "lockdown for what?" you stared up at the witch, feeling like you knew absolutely nothing about her. wanda hated the way you were looking at her. she opened her mouth to talk but was quickly cut off by your mom's soft voice.
"that's not important, babes." but it felt pretty important to you and Natasha knew you wouldn't drop it. "I'm gonna head out," she spoke softly, offering the both of you a smile. she knew you'd both have a lot to talk about and she wanted nothing to do with that.
once the door closed, you turned to wanda with a wary look on your face. "I was gonna tell you." her words had been shaky, her gaze struggled to meet yours but she still did. wanda had looked beautiful that night all dressed in a flowy red dress. "why didn't you?" you questioned, a frown taking over your lips as she breathed out a sigh.
"I didn't want to ruin things. you're the only person who's ever really seen me for who I am and I was scared you wouldn't look at me the same," she confessed and you couldn't be mad at Wanda so instead you nodded, looking at the roses that she had a tight grip on.
"are those for me?" you asked softly, her usual smile tugging at her plump lips, her cheeks turning bright pink. she extended her hand, her smile only growing when you took them, along with her hand leading her through the house and to the dining room. as you did so, wanda couldn't help but swoon. she was relieved that nothing really changed and you'd still have you at the end of the day.
she didn't know what she was worried about before, it was clear that you were different.

Hi can I request a dadlevi x momreader where they have a teenage daughter and the 104th cadet boys gave a crush on her and Levi gets really protective and the reader has to reassure him that she's not a baby anymore pleaseeee thank you😁
welp, i’m usually slow as a sloth with requests but if you don’t mind it being a short drabble i can sure as hell crack up sth soo sorry if it’s a bit too short but here goes, hope you like it anonie (also i kind of said trabble and it turned out 1500 words, sorry) ________________________________________________
“This is getting out of hand, Levi.” Your words were low around the table at the mess hall as your raven-haired husband fixed the cadets across from you with a murderous glare. You put a hand to his tense shoulder and could distinctly hear Mike and Hanji snort from next to you at Levi’s click of the tongue - still, his abuse didn’t stop.
Your daughter glanced at her father once, smiling happily from her place in between the cheerful males of the 104th squad and proceeding to be rather oblivious when it came to his foul mood. Admittedly, he hadn’t spoken about it to anybody but, as the mother of his rather grown-up child and the woman who’d spent well over two decades with him already, you didn’t need a verbal explanation to gather why he was being so pissy.
Since your daughter had been enlisted in the Corps (something her and Levi and you and her had had two separate rather long arguments about), she was in the spotlight, or, well, something of the sort. She was kind enough to communicate with her peers and funny enough to make them laugh, and the looks she’d mostly inherited from you did its part when it came to charming the rookies you’d later checked were named Jean Kirstein, Reiner Braun, Connie Springer, Armin Arlert and partly, the very special Eren Jaeger.
They were her comrades and she regarded them as such - close people she would protect and work with in the future, and they regarded her the same with just a little bit of an ulterior motive. Naturally, parents were good at noticing those stuff and the usually emotion-incompetent Levi Ackerman was no exception when it came to Jean’s heart eyes mirroring his own aimed at you in the past.
As a good father who couldn’t, however, reveal his identity straight-up, he made sure to mentor the kids as harshly as he could, strict in his teachings and rather sadistic out of them. The poor boys had handled stable and kitchen duty more than any previous rookies enlisted and two or three of them had gotten lucky enough to clean up a whole storage of 3DM gear and run laps till they fainted. You were nurturing when it came to those undeserved mishaps and ended up playing the good cop who gave the poor boys water and let them sleep for the rest of the day.
Levi didn’t know it but the harder his punishments got, the more reason his daughter had to pity the boys and question her father’s behaviour. We arrive at a moment where he could no longer think of a suitable punishment to pull through with enough reason and, of course, your endless nagging on the topic. Your daughter didn’t need to know about this secret little bickering, as the cadets didn’t know she was your child and nobody but the superiors were aware of your relationship with Humanity’s Strongest Soldier.
“I’m just monitoring.” The raven’s excuse was laughable as you were leaving the mess hall and he literally stalked his daughter and her tall charmers to the training fields, where you decided to pull him along into the building and have a little talk.
“This is ridiculous, do you realise what you’re doing?” Your question struck nothing in him as he made his way to the second floor of the building only so he could observe from above the training the 104th cadets would undertake with Hanji. His hawk eyes pierced the window and the boys surrounding his precious little baby, and in that moment you felt a little soft when it came to reprimanding him.
“I’m watching my fucking child.” He argued with a grumble and crossed arms, making you sigh as you leaned against the window and observed his features. You could guess only by the pissed off twitch of his brow your daughter had been paired to combat with some of the boys he so disliked.
“But she’s not in danger.” You objected with a snort to which he rolled his eyes. “Also our child.” The addition made his frown more sarcastic, then you pushed at his shoulder and glanced outside. The sun was shining and your husband was silent - and you had to be a good wife and mother at the same time. “Now, I need you to hear me out. Our daughter is fifteen years old and she’s part of the worst group possible. Maybe we can concern ourselves more with her safety and happiness, not so much with the boys she has as friends.”
“It’s unacceptable for them to slack off this much, not to mention you’re defending her. You pointed it out, she’s just fifteen.” The emphasis was a cold slap in your face, then you were eyeing him pointedly.
“Levi,” his grey hues left the window for a second to lock with your gaze, “I was fifteen when I met you.” Your words made him suck in a breath but his obstinance had no limits when it came to his overprotective nature.
“All the more fucking reason for me to protect her.”
“No, all the more reason for us to watch from afar and let her live her life. She’s a teenager once and the fact she’s bonding with her comrades isn’t going to kill her.” The brow he quirked at you made you glare, then you beat him to speaking. “She’s not a baby anymore, we take care of her, yes, but we have to give her some freedom too. Otherwise, we’ll get a rebellious period and I can’t handle managing both your explosive asses once that happens.” His spiteful snort was provocative but his figure turned away from the window to glare at you - good, so he was buckling.
“My ass is explosive only when I drink too much coffee.” His childish retort made you chuckle - you took it as him admitting defeat by not addressing the issue any further.
“And when Hanji cooks.” Your joke called forth an eye-roll from him, then his lips pursed and you smiled at his pale countenance. “It’s fine being worried, she’s been sheltered her whole life and suddenly you’re forced to watch her form connections with people who’re not us. I would say, however,” your smile slowly curled into a smirk as you glanced at the training fields through the window, “she can beat up the boys if they annoy her without your help.”
His brows furrowed and his attention followed your gaze, and you watched your fifteen-year-old daughter flip the blond Reiner Braun over her shoulder with a move Levi had taught her when she was ten. He fell to the ground and, from experience, you knew how much it hurt when all the air was pushed out of your lungs in that moment. Next thing he knew, a foot had stepped on his dominant hand’s wrist and a small hand held a wooden knife to his throat.
In your peripheral vision, you saw the satisfied flicker in Levi’s orbs and decided he wouldn’t be arguing with you on the topic of this anymore. Also, he might as well spare the boys their duties. If his daughter could handle the biggest one this easily, she could land a kick to the testicles effortlessly if any of them proved problematic. You shook your head at the sight and how proud Levi seemed due to it, then you realised he was back to watching you.
“On the topic of us meeting when you were still a brat, are you insinuating anything?” You began waving your hands around in a “no” when he glared at the field, then at you. You’d just denied when he tactfully cut in with: “Far as I remember, you jumped me and you had eighteen.” You let out an awkward laugh and his glare got all the more deadly.
“Haha, about that. I actually lied so you’d let me.” The slow admittance slipped past your dry lips and you watched your husband doubt everything you’d told him in your shared life. You could see him recall everything and make sure he was in the right - except you’d been stupid as a teenager and twice as scheming.
“But your birthday had passed.” He argued coldly, unsuspecting of the truth and ever so sweet because he put so much trust in you.
“And about that, my birthday’s kind of a month after the date I told you.” You watched his eyes widen and began ranting, as per tradition when he came close to blowing a fuse and you wanted to avoid being collateral damage. “I know what you’re thinking, I’m so lucky that my wife is even younger than I thought she was, she’s so attractive and youthful---”
“I’m thinking how I’m about to beat your ass in our next combat session for lying to me for twenty fucking years, that’s what I’m thinking.”

for the @lamenweek Day 6 prompt: Auguste Lives Au
inspired by this post by @skyline-sunset-in-my-veins and @phoenixtcm
“When I am in Arles this fall,” Damianos says, words soft in the summer sunset air around them, “I will kneel before your brother the king and ask his permission to court you.” He pauses, smile just the slightest bit cocky. Laurent is lounging, hair mussed and shirt trailing half-opened laces, in Damen’s arms. “Court you officially, I mean.”
“You are going to Arles for the negotiations yourself this year?” Laurent says. Seated as they are, Damen cannot mistake the shudder of tension, quickly repressed, that runs through Laurent at Damen’s words.
“You haven’t told him yet,” he says.
“It’s just I thought that the ambassador—”
“You haven’t told him yet,” Damen says again. “You said when I saw you last fall that you would tell him last winter for sure.” He tries not to sound accusatory, but well. It is not the first time they have had this conversation.
“I haven’t told him yet,” Laurent concedes. It should not be so hard. It’s been six years since Marlas. Vere and Akielos are at peace. Laurent is in the habit of sharing nearly everything with Auguste, and yet—
“I’m waiting for the right moment,” he says, as he always does. “It’s a sensitive matter, I wish to catch him in the right mood, lest he make up his mind before hearing me out.”
“And you’re afraid of hurting him,” Damen says, as he always does.
“And I want to ensure I don’t hurt him. So I have to find the right time—”
“It’s been years now,” Damen cuts in. “Should we believe that, somehow, the perfect moment will occur this summer, when it did not last winter, or last spring, or the summer before that?”
“Damen—”
“This can just be a fling, if you want,” Damen says, gently.
‘That’s not what I—no,” says Laurent. Damen’s never said that before.
“We can just keep meeting a few times a year. It doesn’t need to be serious. It doesn’t need to be something we tell others about.”
“Damen, stop,” Laurent says. “No. I want to court you. I want it to be official. I want it to be serious.”
“Well, then let it become serious.”
“I’ll tell him this time,” Laurent says. He can do this. It’s been six years since Marlas. Auguste always speaks of Prince Damianos in respectful tones. Laurent picks up Damen’s hand, kisses his knuckles. “Promise.”
And Laurent means to tell Auguste that summer, he really does. He meant to upon his return last fall as well, and the time before that, and the time before that. It’s just that—well, it’s just that every time he returns from diplomatic visits to Delfeur or Ios, he’s struck again with the slow, deliberate way that Auguste moves now. Each year as late spring ripens into summer, he sees how it saddens Auguste that he still no longer has the vigor or endurance for hunts or long rides or anything more taxing than a slow turn around the gardens. Each year as fall deepens into winter, he sees how another year has gone by and the cold makes Auguste’s injuries ache just as much as they had the winter before.
Auguste had nearly died on the battlefield at Marlas. But that wasn’t the whole of it. Even after he had survived the trip home to Arles, he almost died of fever, of wound rot, of the pneumonia his battle-damaged lungs nearly couldn’t shake. And he almost died of assassination, not one time but many. There were few ways to kill a king in the peak of youth and health without attracting undue suspicion, but endless subtle ways to hasten the death of a man in his sickbed. Their uncle, left to rule the court unchecked, had tried seemingly most of them, endless schemes which Laurent had only barely managed to avert and which left behind no conclusive evidence for Laurent to show the court. Even as Auguste had gained strength, the schemes had continued, until the day Laurent gave up trying to beat his uncle while playing by his uncle’s own rules and had simply arranged an accident of his own.
After that, Auguste was safe, but the fallout from their uncle’s years ruling the court and admittedly-suspicious death left him with nearly as many enemies as allies. As prince, Auguste had been universally adored. As king, he faced a yearslong struggle to regain the allegiance of erstwhile allies.
And all this was, at its root, because of Marlas. Because of Damianos. Auguste’s history with Damen wasn’t just the matter of an injury six years ago, not when that injury had colored every day of his life since. And Laurent can’t imagine a way of telling him that he loves Damen, wants a future with him, without it sounding like a betrayal.
To make matters more awkward, Auguste has, for whatever reason, gotten it into his head to nag Laurent about romance. It’s uncomfortable enough to be keeping his relationship with Damen a secret from Auguste. It’s worse to lie, outright or by omission, every time Auguste asks him if there’s anyone Laurent is interested in pursuing.
And then— “You know you can tell me anything, little brother,” Auguste says quietly, a few minutes after Laurent has let a conversation about an overly-flirtatious marquis from Lys lapse.
Laurent swallows, mutely cataloging the darker corners of his past. He does not like to lie to Auguste. But he does.
And there are things he probably will never tell his brother about, things Auguste does not need to know, but also— “Actually, Auguste,” he makes himself say. “There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you.”
And then he pauses, because he still hasn’t figured out a semi-workable phrasing. I’m in love with Prince Damianos, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still upset about what he did to you. I’m fucking the man who almost killed you, and I’m sorry but also I won’t stop. I know seeing the prince of Akielos this fall will probably be terrible for you but also when he asks to court me please say yes.
It’s Auguste who rescues him, after a moment or two of expectant silence. “Is this going to be you finally telling me about your romantic entanglement with Prince Damianos?” he says. “Because honestly, I’m getting sick of seeing you walking around looking guilty and sad all the time.”
“You knew?” Laurent says.
“Of course I knew! You, dear baby brother, are not very subtle. And I’ve had to hear all your reports from the negotiations with Akielos twice a year. Was I somehow not supposed to notice how you gradually stopped insulting Damianos and started telling me about all his varied and impressive positive traits?”
“I said that he was straightforward and committed to the good of his people, and thus that the negotiations were likely to be a productive use of time!”
“And then the trip after that, you said that he was an innovative thinker, a natural leader, and you couldn’t help but admire his tenacity. You said you didn’t mind having to go on hunts with him, which anyone who knows you understands is a major compliment, and when you said he was patient, you smiled that quiet smile of yours that means you are remembering something that made you very happy.”
“Auguste—”
“And yet! Whenever anyone suggests you have developed any fondness for the man, you deny it. Why go to such lengths to conceal a friendly working relationship?”
“Auguste—”
“And honestly, brother, even back when you hated him, I couldn’t help but notice you mentioned his appearance rather a lot. You were always complaining that he was ridiculously tall, or offensively muscular, or something along those lines.”
“I said he was a brute!”
“You also said that his eyes were, and I quote, ‘disgustingly soulful.’ Oh, and the letters! Was I not supposed to notice that in the last year your correspondence with the prince of Akielos has roughly quadrupled in volume and frequency, even as the official negotiations are reaching a standstill? There isn’t enough policy discussion to account for a tenth of the letters you write. There isn’t enough policy discussion to justify you going to Delfeur in person twice a year, and yet you insist on overseeing things personally each time anyway.”
“Auguste, I’m sorry, all right? I know that this must have been painful for you to witness, and I don’t want you to think I don’t care about everything you’ve been through.” He swallows. “But I don’t want to stop seeing Damianos.”
“All right.”
“‘’All right?’ You’re okay with it? Just like that?”
“He makes you happy. If your judgement of him is to be believed, then he sounds like a worthy man. And I trust your judgement.”
“But he stabbed you. And now I’m sleeping with him.”
“Well, we were at war. And it was years ago. And I’m fine. We’re at peace, the nation’s moving on, you’ve moved on in your opinion of him, I can move on as well.”
“It’s not that simple!”
“Why can’t it be? I only met him for about ten minutes. I’m sure there’s more to him than he revealed in a single duel. You have my blessing, Laurent.”
“How can you just—”
“Remember when your pony threw you and you broke your collarbone?”
“This is not the same, this is not even close to the same—”
“You snuck out of the infirmary to go to the stables and tell Chuckles you weren’t mad at him.”
“I was seven, he meant me no ill will, and the bone healed in a month. Also he was a horse,” Laurent grits out. “Damianos was—is—a grown man, responsible for his choices, the injuries he inflicted did lasting damage, and he was trying to kill you.”
“Well, no one is asking you to sleep with him,” Auguste says, in his reasonable-big-brother voice.
Laurent lets out a breath, sits back in his chair. “I started managing the negotiations with Akielos so that you wouldn’t have to speak with him,” he says. “We said that it was because I could travel more easily, that it was because you could not justify spending so much time away from court. But in truth, I did not want you to have to be in a room with him, to have to learn to make polite conversation with him and pretend that Marlas did not happen, that it didn’t matter. If I have come to know him as far more than just the soldier who attacked you, if I have put his past actions behind me, come to care for him in spite of them—that does not mean I expect you to do the same. Could ever ask you to do the same.”
“You’ve always been protecting me, all these years,” Auguste says softly. “Don’t think I don’t know it, or appreciate it. But let me be the protective big brother again once in a while? You’ve learned to let the past go and let yourself have the present you want with Damianos, because you’re in love with him. Allow me to let the past go and have the future I want, where my little brother is happy.”
He’s looking Laurent in the eye, gaze steady, and slowly Laurent allows himself to believe that Auguste is serious, that in his heart of hearts, he does not mind. That he is happy for Laurent.
“Thank you,” he says. “For your blessing.”
“Of course,” Auguste says. And then, “Well, when I say you have my blessing, I mean informally, of course. Prince Damianos will have to ask me himself.”
“You just want the chance to make him squirm,” Laurent says.
“I just want the chance to make him squirm,” Auguste concedes, and he and Laurent break into quiet laughter, imagining it.

With your final month of pregnancy approaching you were finally ready to take your maternity leave. Deciding to continue working for as long as you could to save some money. The boss was getting super weird but you were holding your tongue and making up excuses to leave his presence.
Your last day was a little extravagant with cake and a card signed by your colleagues. The boss gave you a bouquet of flowers, which you graciously accepted as it was your last day. Everyone took photos and your boss awkwardly pulled you close, his hand resting on your belly.
Irritation growing, you wanted nothing more than to push his hand away and leave. The scent of his cologne made you feel a little sick and you were unbelievably sweaty. Excusing yourself to the safety of the women's bathroom you splashed your neck with some cool water.
Calling Jimin you whispered, “I need you to come pick me up, the boss is being weird again.”
“I am near by, give me a few minutes I will get you,” Jimin’s sweet voice rang like tiny chimes through the phone.
You waited another couple of minutes and heard your name called from the hall, “Y/n?, are you okay in there?” It was your creepy boss.
“Sorry, I am just having a hot flash so I am splashing water on my neck,” You laughed, trying to appear casual and not cause him any reason to suspect you are in distress as you would bet he would barge in otherwise, “I will be out soon.”
Your phone chimed.
[Jimin: We are in the elevator grab your things for a quick escape.]
Curious as to who he was referring to as ‘we’ but not questioning it, he was right you should get ready to leave as quickly as possible. Heading out to the gathering of your colleagues, you smiled fanning yourself.
“Here is some ice water,” One of the women smiled, “I remember when I was pregnant it was unbearably hot.”
“Thanks,” You took a drink and sighed happily at the cool liquid, standing in front of your bag, the flowers and card. The elevator doors opened to reveal a well dressed Jimin and a rather handsome man you recognized from the bar. Jungkook’s best friend, Taehyung was it? You smiled at the two as they smiled greeting everyone. “Hello, we are Y/n’s friends, I'm Jimin and this is Taehyung. We have come to pick her up.” Jimin looked around the room and his eyes lit up, “wow you are all so nice a party and everything.”
Jimin charmed the room easily and Taehyung wasn’t doing too badly either as he took the flowers and your bag. “Are you ready to leave?”
“Ah yes, I wouldn’t mind going home for a rest,” allowing the two young men to lead you towards the elevator, “Goodbye, I will hopefully see you when I am back from leave.”
They all waved and wished you good luck, and you didn’t miss the disappointed look on your boss' face. Your shoulders slumped as you leaned against the wall of the elevator, “I am so tired.”
“We will get you home soon,” Jimin smiled, rubbing your back and pulling you into a hug.
“Should we reschedule?” Taehyung said, “Or, I can um pay again, if you don’t mind waiting for a few weeks, I will save up enough money for another date.”
Jimin was at a loss for words. You knew he didn’t know what to say and you smiled, “Hey no, I will be home soon, just drop me off and go back to Jimin’s, he has a cinema room and you can order in and watch movies.”
“Yeah, we can do that.” Jimin smiled, reassuringly at Taehyung,
“Half a movie, I can only afford half a movie,” He mumbled downtrodden. Jimin wet his lips feeling awkward, he hadn’t dated anyone who wasn’t loaded with cash in a long time.
“Jimin has a rule that if he can’t make a date the next one is half price,” you took the art of improv to a whole new level, “he couldn’t make your date and it had to be rescheduled, right? So, this one is half price so you can get twice the amount of time.”
“Yeah, she is right so we can hang out a little longer.” Jimin bit his lip looking at the young man and seeing the small smile pull up on his lips. “So let’s drop the tiny mama off and go watch a movie.”
“Ok,” Taehyung smiled, you watched the two, nervous like a highschool crush developing between two students. The two graciously dropped them off and Jimin walked you to the door.
“You are smitten!” You grinned, teasing him lightly watching his blush grow. Your eyes catching Taehyung fixing his hair in the passenger seat drop down mirror. “You have never been nervous in your life, and he is so sweet.”
“I have been with rich men here and there looking for a date or a night, but I have never had someone scraping together their money to spend just a little time with me, making handmade gifts because that's all they can do.” Jimin was clutching his heart, and you finally found the key for the front door. “When he tells me I am pretty, or that he loves my voice, it’s different. I know those CEO’s had wives, but when he says it, I feel special like I am the only one in the world he says it too.”
“So what’s the problem?” You asked, letting Jimin walk you inside with all your items. “You have a lot of savings and investment properties, you could live off that money very easily.”
“How can I see him when he thinks he has to pay me all the time?” Jimin mumbled, walking back to the front door. “I don’t want him to go bankrupt because he thinks he can’t afford my rates”
“I heard at the bar that he like photography. Tell him you want a photoshoot but you don’t know a good photographer who you feel comfortable with.” You hugged and an idea struck. “Say you can’t decide on a concept and offer him a few different ones you want to try. He has been asked to submit his work into an exhibition. I think the theme was nightlife.”
“Nightlife.”
“It’s up for interpretation, but who has a more busy nightlife than you, and I am not talking about going out on the town. A sensual at home photoshoot of you in a sheet or a naked silhouette overlooking the night city.”
“Oh that could be fun, I could be part of an exhibition” he giggled, “I will ask him.”
Jimin hugged you again for safe measure and ran off to his van and climbed inside.
You waved shutting the door and heading to the fridge hoping some cold yoghurt would soothe your overheated form, whilst also feeding your almost insatiable hunger.
Opening the fridge, you saw the last of your yoghurt at the back, bending slightly you felt a twinge in your back and as you straightened up, Yoghurt in your hand as you were overcome with a tightness in your stomach. Was this a contraction?
You were two weeks out from your due date so it wasn’t unusual for people to have their babies early. You pulled out your phone calling for an ambulance and trying to breathe calmly.
[Y/n: I think I am in labor, and you’re the only one who is free today.] [DJSuga: Like really or that time you ate too much rice too quickly and got indigestion?] [Y/n: I just called the ambulance.] [DJSuga: I will meet you at the hospital let me know what ward you are in when you know.]
Tumblr media
“Hello, I am looking for Miss Y/n.” Yoongi’s voice carried across the hall from the nurses desk to your room. “I would describe her as pregnant but it wouldn’t help.”
“Wow, you are very descriptive. You really have no words to describe me Yoongi? I am offended.” You pouted walking out into the hall, “Let’s go home.”
“What I thought you were popping out a baby today?” he said confused, “If you say it was constipation or something stupid I will hit you upside the head.”
“Well, it wasn’t that.” You blushed, “It was braxton hicks?”
“Who?” he blanked, utterly confused, “What are you talking about?”
“It means fake labor, like a test run.”
“Can you stop with the test runs, I don’t think my body can take it anymore?” Yoongi held his back waddling down the hallway making you giggle. “Come on, I saw a restaurant for lamb skewers and I have been craving it since.”
“You are acting more like a pregnant woman than I am.”
Walking out the front of the hospital you were bombarded by Jin, Jungkook, Namjoon, and a disheveled Jimin with Taehyung. You didn’t realize how your eyes looked for Hoseok, until you didn’t find him. The crushing feeling in your chest made you frown slightly.
“False alarm.” Yoongi muttered, “Apparently Barbie Hacks or something, we are getting lamb skewers. Come on, I hear Jin is paying.”
Tumblr media
Hoseok arrived at the Bar and saw that no one was around, the place was locked up with a sign announcing that it was closed for the night. It was strange Jin didn’t ever believe in taking days off, even when he was sick he would be in his office resting.
He called Jin’s phone and heard laughter, “I will be back” Jin's voice called. Hoseok could hear Namjoon, Jimin and Yoongi talking about something adamantly. Had they planned something without him.
“Hey Hoseok, what do you need?”
“Your bar is closed?” Hoseok mumbled, “I was wondering what you are all doing?”
“Y/n went to the hospital because she was getting contractions but they turned out to be Braxton hicks, so we are having lamb skewers on Yoongi’s request.”
“Why did no one tell me?” Hoseok felt a little sick that his friends were hanging out without him and there was a strange pull in his chest knowing that he wasn’t there at the hospital.
“I didn’t think we had to, seeing as you are not the father of any children.” Jin repeated his words back to him, “We aren’t picking sides but you made it clear you didn’t want to be a part of the child's life. So we didn’t want to force you to be there.”
“I never said that I didn’t want to be a part!” Hoseok shouted down the phone, “Urgh, this is fucked.”
With a sigh Jin grew deadly serious, “she was scared out of her mind today, she thought she was going to have to give birth alone, you have to talk to her.”
“I said some stupid shit, Jin. I don’t know how to fix this.” Hoseok pulled at his hair and started heading to your house, hoping that perhaps the two of you could talk this out before he ended up losing you.
He had so much that he wanted to say and get mad about, he wasn’t ready to forgive you but he wasn’t ready to let you go either.
Tumblr media
You were dropped off at Hoseok’s apartment, the one you had lived in together before everything went wrong. Touching your rounded tummy you knew that this child wasn’t a mistake and apologized out loud for even implying anything of the sorts. Taking the stairs to the second floor you arrived at his door.
Knock knock.
“Hoseok are you home?” You called, taking the key from your keychain you peaked inside to see the lights were off. You sat for a moment but he didn’t come home and it was getting a little dark.
Heading out you locked up and walked along the road. You put a headphone in and pretended to be in a conversation. Speeding up slightly as you passed the men sitting on the steps of one of the stores that had closed up for the night. The men were laughing about something and you scurried along.
Sighing in relief when you went to cross the street, looking both ways you caught sight of figures following you. Were the men following you? What did they want? Thoughts were circling in your head as the adrenaline started to kick in. Dialing hoseok you crossed the road.
“Hello, Y/n?” Hoseok said “I wanted to-”
“Hoseok, there are men following me” you whispered.
“Where are you?” He asked, sounding concerned, which gave you a flash of hope that he would protect you like he always did.
“I am on our street, I am heading to Yuta, I need to go somewhere public.” You replied walking briskly.
“Keep walking, I'm on my way.” You heard the sound of an engine and you knew everything would be okay. Hoseok wouldn’t let you get hurt.
“Don’t hang up, they are still following.” Picking up your speed you noticed they had started to walk a little more briskly. “I sped up and they did too, Hobi, I am really scared.”
“Don’t slow down, you got this little darling, I will be there soon.” Hoseok said with desperation in his voice. “I won’t leave you on your own anymore. I should have been there today. I should be with you now!”
A hand grabbed your shoulder and you screamed phone clattering onto the ground, “I am sorry miss, we called out but your headphones were in, you dropped your wallet.”
“Oh! Thank you so much, I am so sorry.”
“It’s okay, do you need help, can we escort you somewhere?” The other man asked. “There has been some break-ins recently so we have taken to watching the neighborhood.”
They walked you back towards Hoseok's and you sat with them as you spoke about what happened with Hoseok. Talking about how you stuffed up and lied to him. “You mean the really happy guy with the reddish hair? You two used to walk this street all the time. I knew you too liked each other,” they grinned
“So is it a little girl or boy?” One of the guys gestured to your belly. “Have you thought of any names?”
“A little girl and I have been thinking of some. Sun-Hee it just reminds me so much of her dad,” you hummed, a little nervous to hear their feedback, “does it sound silly?”
“It sounds beautiful.”
Looking up there was Hoseok panting and looking relieved to see you okay. Standing, you walked over to your longest friend, hoping he didn’t scold you. “Hoseok, I am sorry.”
He pulled you into a hug and buried his face in your neck, “I don’t care. I don’t care that you lied and kept this from me. I don’t care about any of that, let me be here for you. I will be by your side.”
You were crying, he took your face in his hands brushing your tears away with the pads of his thumbs. “Alright love birds, Kiss each other.”
Your cheeks were bright red, ready to laugh and tell the men it wasn’t like that when Hoseok pulled you forward. Pressing his lips to your's, he kissed you fiercely, his hands holding your waist and cradling your head. He tried to pull you closer when your belly bumped against him. He looked down and rubbed your belly gently, “I am sorry I wasn’t there but I am here now, and I am not leaving.”
“Let’s go home, Hobi.” You whispered, he thanked the men for taking care of you and led you to his van. He drove back to your house and walked you inside, shutting the door and taking off his shoes. The two of you sat on the couch.
“I guess you have a lot to talk about.” Hoseok said nervous and you swung your leg over his lap and kissed him. It was difficult to maneuver with your big belly, but you were too busy enjoying the feeling of his soft lips against yours.
“I want to remember this time,” you breathed against him. “Please let’s just pretend that one didn’t happen and try again.”
Hoseok laughed and lifted you carefully and carried you to the bedroom.
Hoseok was gentle and passionate; he teased you with his fingers and lavished you with his tongue. You had never had anything like this. Usually you were chasing a high with some guy you never had plans to call again, and that was on the rare occasion you were looking for sex. This made you feel overwhelmingly good, your heart was pounding. Every thrust brought with it a spark of energy. You clung to Hoseok as he lost himself in the sensations.
He would open his eyes in moments of clarity and kiss you telling you how much he loved you. It wasn’t like jumping off the edge into pleasure; this was like waves that started small and built into a choppy tide never crashing upon you, just rocking you with pleasure. After the crescendo moment the waves began to ease back until it was the gentle waters lapping at the sand.
“Hobi,” you panted as he laid your head on his chest. He hummed encouraging you to continue. You took his hand and placed it onto your belly, “you remember two minutes ago when we had sex, well I think I fell pregnant.”
He laughed, throwing his head back into the pillow and leaned down kissing your belly, “I think you might be right!”

A/N: HEYO I AM BACK IN THE HOUSE, PALS! Things have been a little crazy for me IRL but alas! I am here! This little drabble is for the AMAZING @rosietae! As one of the winners of my milestone, my dear friend Taemi requested this drabble. A little angst with none other than our leader, Kim Namjoon. Taemi, I hope this piece breaks your angst-loving heart only to bring it back together by the last word. I love you! A special thank you to @joyfulhopelox for making this stunning banner and @bangtanhome for beta reading and putting up with my shenanigans time and time again. I appreciate - and ADORE - you both. More than you know!

Act I: Break It Carefully.
“Y/N! Wait! Where are you going?”
His heavy footsteps hit the concrete sidewalk, a steady thump, thump, thump as he jogs to catch up with you.
“What happened back there? Why did you just get up and leave?”
Things had been falling apart for months. You saw less and less of Namjoon and, when you did, his mind was always somewhere else. Somewhere far away from you.
You had held on, grasping at the sands of time as they slipped through your fingers until nothing was left but air. Empty space and hard truths.
Your relationship was over.
Over long before you had understood, too caught up in trying to hold on to something that was already gone.
You stop walking, hands fisting around the strap of your purse as you turn to face Namjoon. The confusion on his face leaves your chest aching, heart stuttering in its rhythm.
“Do it.”
“What?” Namjoon’s frown deepens, forehead creasing as his brows furrow. “Do what?”
“Break my heart. If being apart...” The tears welling up in your eyes leave him nothing more than a hazy silhouette standing before you. “If breaking my heart is what you need, do it. Break it. Shatter it.”
“Y/N…”
“You’ve always held me gently, sheltering me, and protecting me. If you’re going to break my heart, please do it just like that. Gently. Carefully.”
You tug at the sleeves of your sweater, wrapping the cotton around your fists as they ball at your sides. If you were going to fall apart, you were going to do it with your chin held high and your back straight. You weren’t going to let him see you crumble, now when you were standing before him asking him to break your heart.
“It’s okay to say goodbye. I can let go of all the things I’d hoped we would be.”
He pulled you into his chest, the shoulder of his shirt soaking with your tears as his left hand smoothed down the hair at the back of your head. He tilted your face up with his right, pressing a lingering kiss to your forehead.
He couldn’t stop the storm from rolling in, but he could shelter you until it was through, until the thunder stopped rolling and the lightning no longer flashed. He’d hole you like this for as long as he could. For as long as it took.
“I’ll remember you kindly.” You smiled a watery smile. “You’ll always be my favorite. My favorite what-could-have-been. My favorite what-if.”
“Even though I always tried to guess the ending of movies before you? Even though I know you love mint chocolate chip ice cream, I think combining chocolate with toothpaste flavor is sacrilegious?”
“Even then.”
“I’m…” He takes a deep breath, weighing the words sitting on the tip of his tongue as if debating whether to give them life or to swallow them down. He gives you a long look before deciding on the former. “I’m going to miss you, Y/N. I’m...sorry. I’m so sorry.”
“Yeah.” The smile that finds its way onto your face is nothing short of bittersweet. “Me too.”
Tumblr media
Act II: The Art Of Moving On.
“It’s one date. Just one.”
You swallow down the refusal that bubbles up, clawing its way up your throat towards the tip of your tongue.
It was a dance, one you and Hazel - your longtime best friend - had been stuck in for weeks now.
Three years was far too long to avoid the possibility of love, to hold out hope that maybe someday your heart would come home.
That he would come back to you, arms open as if the time that had passed hadn’t mattered, not when your hearts still beat in time with one another effortlessly.
You knew she meant well, only wanted to see you happy. Too see you let down your guard and abandon the walls you had surrounded yourself with.
When things between her and Seokjin started to get serious, she took it upon herself to play matchmaker. With his help, they went through all of his closest friends, trying to set you up on blinds dates in hopes that you’d find someone to make you as happy as they made each other.
Despite their actions coming from a good place, a place of love and friendship, it always left your heart stinging.
The idea of falling for someone new never fails to leave a bad taste in your mouth and your stomach tied up in knots.
“You’re not going to let this go until I agree, are you?”
“Nope.” She grins. A little wicked, a little hopeful.
“Fine.”
You knew that if the gleam that shone in Hazel’s eyes was anything to go by, your decision to cave and agree to the blind date was going to be one you would come to regret.

Act III: My Heart Has Been Waiting For You To Come Home.
It was funny.
Funny how you still remember the dimples that dent Namjoon’s cheeks when he smiles. Funny how he still runs a hand along the back of his neck when he’s nervous or stuck in an awkward situation.
Funny how his nose still scrunches and his eyes shine with playful mirth as he takes a look at the mug of peppermint hot chocolate resting in front of you on the table, the smell of mint and cocoa wafting towards your nose in the steam coming off of the drink.
Funny how the sound of his laugh and the deep timbre of his voice are still the harmonies of your favorite song, a symphony composed and performed by him and him alone.
The 1,095 days since you had last since him had done little to loosen the hold he has - has always had - on your heart.
The 26,280 minutes hadn’t erased the memory of him, only pushing it down until it no longer sat on the surface, consuming all of your thoughts.
“I’m sure I’m the last person you expected to end up spending your Friday night with, huh?”
“I’d...be lying if I said it wasn’t a bit of a surprise, yeah. I’m sure I’m not exactly what you had in mind, either.” You smile, but it doesn’t quite reach your eyes. “It’s been nice, though. Catching up with you.”
“Yeah.” He nods, lifting his mug to lips and taking a long sip of his apple cider.
The silence that settles over you is comfortable, reminiscent of a time when things had been easy between you.
A time when you and Namjoon were more than strangers with an entangled past.
Strangers written into the same story but given different paths to venture down, leading you away from one another and into the awaiting arms of the unknown.
“I bought a copy of your book.”
Namjoon nearly chokes on a sip of his drink at your admission.
You’re quick to offer him one of the napkins from the stack resting in the middle of the table and he takes, muttering a quick thank you under his breath.
“You don’t have to seem so surprised.” You can help the tug that pulls the corners of your lips upwards.
“I just didn’t think you’d read it.” He balls up the used napkin. “Not after...everything.”
“If nothing else, I was curious. I remembered how hard you had worked on it. How much of yourself you poured into it.”
“And, uh...What did you think of it? The book?”
You consider his question.
It had been a bittersweet tale to read. One of lost love and regrets, of missed opportunities and words left unspoken.
It had struck a chord inside of you, pulled at the thread you had been left hanging by after the heartbreak of having to say goodbye to Namjoon.
A farewell that you hadn’t been ready for. One you weren’t sure you would have ever been truly ready for.
“It was beautiful.” You mean it. Every last word had been carefully chosen, every sentence threaded together and weaved into the perfect story. “Sad, but beautiful.”
“It was about you, you know?”
“What?”
His confession steals the breath from your lungs. Your heart beats wildly, slamming against your ribs until your chest is left aching, the hollow feeling you were too familiar with creeping up on you once more.
“The line at the end.” He takes an unsteady breath before quoting the very line that had been your undoing. “My heart has been waiting for you to come home. It’s searched for you in every stranger, in every hand mine held and every smile stretched across foreign lips. Nothing felt familiar, nothing was you. Am I too late? Or is your heart searching for mine, too?”
You gape at him, words failing you as he reaches across the table and takes your hand in his own.
“I’m sorry that I didn’t try harder. That I didn’t fight for you to stay.”
“Namjoon…”
“I’m not asking to pick things back up where we left off. I’m not asking you to forgive me right away. To forget all of the hurt and pain I put you through. I’m just asking you to give me a second chance. A chance to do things differently. To do them right. I-”
“Carefully.”
“What?” He blinks.
Once, twice.
His eyebrows knit together as he tries to decode your response.
“If you’re going to hold my heart, hold it carefully.”
The words echo between you, the shadow of a different time.
A time when you had asked him to break your heart. To use the piece of your shattered love if that’s what it took for him to be whole.
You had held those pieces together, taping and gluing and stitching them together for three years.
Now, here he was, offering you the very pieces you had once given to him, a tribute of hope.
Of love.
Of second chances and new beginnings.

that’s when i could finally breathe
Me: oh yeah, I am definitely going on a fanfic writing break. Also me: this.
As always, I have no idea what I’ve done. I really was taking a break, but then I was listening to Clean and... this happened. All of my pieces have been weirdly cathartic, and I think this one was just like: HAHA PROJECTION!!
I also did not proofread this, and wrote it in one day, so... do with that what you will :)
Also, do not comment on my inability to come up with decent titles. I know. I know this is a terrible title, but I HAD NO BETTER IDEAS OKAY!!!
Word Count: 2289
Trigger Warnings: child abuse, funerals, death, past suicidal thoughts, grief, self-destructive behaviour (Hotch does not pull his hair out, but he does have thoughts about doing so)
read on ao3!
He has always found a sense of peace in the rain.
Where other people would run to try and find shelter, Aaron has always loved to just stand and let it soak through his clothes to his skin, chilling his bones and body. Haley had found it endearing as a teenager.
As an adult, it had concerned her.
He could tell her it was nothing till he was blue in the face, but there was a sense of panic that came with looking out the window to see the clouds weeping, combined with her husband’s lack of presence in their apartment.
More than once, he would come home, shivering and teeth chattering, but smiling. She would force him to change, to wrap himself in a blanket, but he would usually be too dazed to do so without her assistance. He caught a cold more than once.
Jack has inherited his love for the rain. His love, like everything else about him, is childish and innocent though. A love for jumping in puddles and splashing his parents. A fascination with the different types of weather, and a love for the yellow coat that has a duck on the hood that was a gift from Penelope.
Aaron’s love for the rain can be described in one word. The same word Haley has always used to describe the way he loves everything. His love for the rain is complex. It is born from the best and worst moments of his life.
His love for the rain comes from the little boy that wore his heart on his sleeve. Who wanted nothing more than to turn the terrible things that happened into a story, and who just wanted to use his brain to find a reason for all the bad things that seemed to keep happening.
It rained the day of his father’s funeral. His mother and Sean shared an umbrella. Haley tried to get him to stand under hers, but he refused, choosing to stand in it, letting it numb the fire in his stomach. He didn’t shed any tears at the funeral. He had already mourned the death of his father. He had mourned when he was eleven, and learnt that his father did not love him. Not in the way he was meant to. Not in a way that was right.
The rain made it look like he was crying. It soaked his hair and dripped onto the collar of his coat, and when his uncle drove him and the last people that knew the truth about Mr Hotchner, his mother seemed to realise what he had been doing. She chastised him, but it was weak and with no real threat.
Aaron would confess to Haley, months later, that the rain had made him feel like he was being listened to. Like the God he had stopped believing in believed his father was a bad man, and the rain had been to disrupt the final event where anyone would truly care for him. The rain made him feel like there was a happy ending at the end of the tunnel waiting for him.
It made him feel like he could breathe again.
When Haley kissed him for the first time, it was raining. They had been running home from their date, not expecting the summer night to turn out like that, and he had paused because of the stitch in his side.
She had turned around, laughing hysterically because of course this had happened. Of course their first date, which she had spent hours preparing for, Jessica styling her hair and convincing her the dress she had picked was perfect, ended in rain. With her hair coming loose from the pins she had slid into it. With Aaron’s shirt plastered to his skin. If she had stepped close enough, she could almost see the scars on his back.
She wouldn’t ask though. Not today.
He looked at her, slightly apologetic, and she was once again struck by just how pretty he was. His eyelashes were longer than she had first realised, and the rain seemed to drip off of them in a way she had only ever seen in the movies.
His hair was an untamed mess. Her heart had dropped a little when he rang her doorbell, because she liked the chaos of his usual style, and seeing it without a hair out of place made her feel like he was trying to be a different person. The rain had ruined it all though, and it now fell onto his forehead and stuck to his face in a way she loved.
To everyone else in their little town, he likely looked like the villain. Like the demon creeping in through the window to steal the beautiful princess away to their terrible castle. But Haley is not everyone else. And to her, Aaron looks like the dashing prince, ready to save the heroine from the terrible prejudice of her home.
So when he opened his mouth, probably to ask her if everything was okay, she took a step forward, placed her hands on his cheeks and kissed him. It was messy and wet and awkward, but it was their first. And it was special.
Her cheeks were flushed when she pulled away. Aaron just stared at her for a few moments, something like panic written all over his face. But then that panic gave way to something else, and Haley felt like she was watching someone realise they were in love.
It was more beautiful than she could’ve ever imagined.
He smiled at her, still bashful after the events of the evening, and held his arm out to her. She took it, allowing him to walk her all the way to her front door, where he placed a single kiss to her cheek.
He laughed, once he was out of her line of sight. He laughed, and he ran through the puddles, splashing the water everywhere, and he let out loud cheers because the night was silent and only the stars were there to keep him company.
Haley Brooks liked him. No. She loved him.
It made him feel like he could live again.
The moment he felt clean, like the blood had been washed from his hands, like he could breathe again, like he could exist and not feel like there had been some massive mistake, it was raining. Haley had been dead for six months, and it had been six brutal months of cases, of processing his grief, of shutting down in front of the team.
Of teaching Jack that being sad was part of life, and that being happy did not mean he was forgetting Mom, or a terrible person. Of wishing there was someone to hold his hand, just for a moment.
Of flashing Jessica little smiles, because he had lost the first woman to love him the way love was supposed to be, but Jessica had lost her baby sister, and nothing was ever going to bring her back to life. Not his own self-destruction. Not his guilt. Not his pain. Not the way he threw himself into cases that caused the ink to blur before his eyes.
Not the way he was trying so hard to teach his son exactly what love was so he would grow up unafraid to jump in head first, and would always believe in its existence.
Jessica asked if Jack could stay with her for a few days. She had a break in between one project finishing and the next starting, and she was going to use it to look at some of the things Haley had left at her house. Aaron was yet to deal with the things in the house and in storage. He just couldn’t do it.
But Jessica wanted to start, and she wanted Jack to see some of the things. He spoke to Jack, and Jack’s therapist, about the trip, and when both people signed off on it, he packed his son a bag and dropped his son off at his aunt’s for the weekend.
The quietness of the apartment had a greater impact on him than he thought it would’ve. He had gotten used to the sound of Jack racing around. Of Jessica washing dishes. Of their quiet existences that left a mark on every inch on every wall of the convenient location that had somehow evolved into a home- something he thought he’d lost forever when Anderson handed him the divorce papers.
He couldn’t handle the silence. It was suffocating. It reminded him of his childhood house, and of walking on eggshells. It reminded him of the thirty-four days he felt in silence, recovering from stab wounds he wished had killed him, and mourning the loss of his family.
So he drives. And he drives. And he drives.
And he somehow finds himself at Gideon’s cabin. He’d only been there twice since he left the team. Once to pick Reid up once he had the strength to phone and say that he’d found a letter, but he didn’t know what he was meant to do, but Gideon was gone and he didn’t know why everyone always left. Once to pick Rossi up, after the case with the three children that ended with no real sort of justice.
Gideon left him a key. It was in the drawer of his desk, with no explanation. No letter. No apology. Hotch had taken it, and attached it to the keyring that held his house keys. He’d never used it though.
Not before now.
Because that day, when he goes to Gideon’s cabin, he lets himself in. He walks through the different rooms, smiling at the small traces of his former mentor that still remain there, and the pieces of the other team members that have somehow found themselves a home in the various areas.
He exits out the back door.
Haley had taken him here once. After she found out she was pregnant, he was meant to step down and take a transfer. They’d had it all planned out. Then he’d gotten a phone call saying there was a case, and that case had been Adrian Bale so before he knew what was going on, he was pushed into the role of Unit Chief and trying to rebuild a team that was never meant to have been his.
She had taken him here to remind him of all the reasons he couldn’t leave. Of all the lives he would feel responsible for if he acted selfishly. And he had looked at her, with such love in his eyes, and agreed with her. It had been a quiet trip. A peaceful trip. A warm visit. They had been together, still the teenagers that linked hands during the final bows of their performance.
Haley was dead, and he was left to patch up his own pieces. The visit had been tense and silent, but the uncomfortable type, and even as he walked through the cabin, he wondered why exactly he had bothered coming here. He didn’t know what he was trying to achieve, or what he thought this was going to do. He just knew it was something he needed to do.
When he stepped back out into the woods that surrounded the cabin, the rain started.
He had never believed in signs, not truly, but this one was too big to be anything but that. It was pouring. Enough to cause the branches to sag with the weight of water. Enough to create proper puddles that could be jumped in. Enough to remind him of the first time Haley had kissed him, and how that simple touch had brought him back to life. Enough to remind him of his father’s funeral, and how the feel of the cold had reminded he had no longer had to be afraid.
It was loud enough to drown out the sounds of people.
He had one chance to do this. One chance to see whether or not his love for the rain would still help him the way it always had.
He screamed. He fell to his knees, and he fisted his hands in his hair. He didn’t pull it out, but he tugged at it, and Haley wasn’t there to grip his hands till he could trust himself.
He screamed. And he cried. And he begged for an answer. And he shoved his blazer off, not even caring that his trousers were stained with mud that would likely never come out, and not giving a damn about the cold.
He screamed. Until his throat went dry and his words seemed to fade into nothing, not only because the rain swallowed his noises, but because he couldn’t be loud.
He screamed until he was soaked and the rain had caused him to go numb and start shivering.
And then he turned around and walked back inside. As he passed the bathroom, something caught his eye. A towel he had thought he had just misplaced whilst on a case, and a hoodie he’d assumed he’d given to Sean and forgotten about. Almost like Gideon had guessed what he would be doing here, and wanted to apologise for what he had done.
Haley would not want him to get sick. Neither would Jessica. Neither would the team. Neither would Jack.
So he went into the bathroom, and he dried himself off, and he zipped the hoodie up. And then he took a final look around the cabin. He smiled to himself, knowing that, no matter what happens, the team will always have this as their safe haven.
He drives home, despite the rain.
It makes him feel like he could love again.

Oooh, WRH/NMJ, either (1) the first moment WRH realized he had a Thing for NMJ or (2) arranged marriage AU with all the awkwardness that entails :)
Thank you for the prompt! Let's try the first moment Wen RuoHan realized he had a Thing for Nie MingJue~ I am weak for Wen RuoHan admiring Nie MingJue over something that never gets fully appreciated by anyone else, and having it happen during this occasion is just the cherry on top ❤
☀️
“It sounds like they’re preparing for war up ahead,” Wen Qing said. “Let’s turn back, Uncle.”
They walked the stone paths under the trees of the Unclean Realm with their fans fluttering in front of them. Although the day was sliding into evening, the searing heat had yet to follow suit. Yells and shouts and the ring of steel on steel grew louder as they moved along. They had passed plenty of closed doors and shut gates, nothing that would have prevented Wen RuoHan if he truly wanted to explore, but no one had stopped them strolling the open grounds which had led them to this place.
“Have you ever seen saber practice?” Wen RuoHan asked.
“Years ago when suddenly everyone had a saber for a week, but no one was shouting about it.”
“The Qinghe Nie are a fiercely prideful sect. This is how they welcome us to their discussion conferences.”
Wen Qing sighed. “Frighten us off, you mean?”
“Don't tell me some shouting has frightened you, A-Qing.”
There were few braver than she, however, and even the suggestion did not phase her. Only as they approached a stone arch and the sound of training grew louder did she show any sign of reluctance. “Where are we going?”
Wen RuoHan smiled. “We are taking a closer look.” There was very little reason to attend these conferences beyond seeing what the other sects were doing. Tradition ran deep, however, and methods rarely changed. He wasn’t expecting much, but it was Wen Qing’s first time in the Unclean Realm. A clever girl had grown up into a clever young woman, with fresh eyes that might notice what he himself did not.
Instead, she said, “Sect Leader Nie sent instructions we were to remain at our residence and the Sword Hall this week. It might be best not to push him at his first discussion conference.”
Upon taking the role of sect leader in the wake of his father's death, Nie MingJue had infamously avoided attending the discussion conferences held in Qishan, Lanling, Yunmeng, and Gusu. Only when hosting finally fell upon the Qinghe Nie in rotation did he finally relent to obligation.
Wen RuoHan couldn't blame him. Discussion conferences had become weary when Wen RuoHan had, over the years, lost interest in what his fellow leaders had to say. Their cultivation techniques crawled while all his life he had sought to run. Their management of the night hunts called for small, equal pieces for everyone to nibble upon, but it would be irresponsible of him to let his sect go hungry. And negligent of him to have traveled all this way and not stretch his legs.
“Some things never change,” Wen RuoHan said with some dry fondness as they came upon the training grounds. Dozens of young disciples in their dark, Qinghe Nie robes were paired off and in the midst of practice. Sunlight caught off the silver steel, adding flashes of light to an already aggressive display that looked, after several moments, like a dance.
The man overseeing the training stood taller than all the rest. With his robes hanging off the hips and tied at the waist, he struck a bold and handsome figure even with his eyes narrowed as the setting sun smiled on his face.
“I stand corrected,” Wen RuoHan said pleasantly, feeling the breeze off his fan more acutely. “The view has improved.”
Wen Qing frowned. For all her brilliance, weapons training for cultivation had rarely interested her as much as much as the wounds of the trainees. “The noise has not.”
Indeed, the man leading the lesson had a loud voice that would make meek disciples quiver. To Wen RuoHan’s agreement, the group at present were anything but meek as they all roared back wordlessly in affirmation to their trainer's command.
“Mind your balance!” the man shouted. “The next one who falls over will be standing on their hands and we’ll see if their feet can do better with a saber!”
“Now there is a cultivator who minds his training,” Wen RuoHan mused with a laugh. “We may have to borrow this one to ready our own for next year's conference.” Already decisions had been made to host events in Qishan along with the usual discussions. Horse racing, archery, and duels, plus poetry among others.
Wen Qing gave him a strange look. “That is Nie MingJue, Uncle. Sect Leader Nie.”
Wen RuoHan's smile froze, and then slowly fell. “Ah,” he said, shutting his fan with a soft clap, “he certainly looks nothing like his father.”
“And he's coming this way...”
“So he is. What shall we tell him?”
“...That we are going back to our rooms to have dinner. We look forward to the start of the conference in the morning.”
Wen RuoHan looked at her in surprise. “Are we now?”
“Yes.” And she had already turned away to leave.
“It would be rude of me to not greet our host now that he is here,” Wen RuoHan considered aloud as Nie MingJue walked straight through his fighting disciples to reach them on the most direct path.
Wen Qing hesitated.
“What is that expression, A-Qing?” He motioned her away with the closed fan. “If you do not want to speak with him, then go have the tea ready when I return.”
“...Yes, Uncle.”
She walked back down the path, scattering the shadows that had gathered there. He wasn't sure if she knew the way, but no doubt there would be plenty of volunteers to direct her, blessed as she was with her mother's beauty. Although, now that he thought about it, the Qinghe Nie were said to not be enchanted by beautiful things not made of steel.
“Sect Leader Wen.” Nie MingJue stood on the other side of the stone archway as if a barrier separated then. He glanced to where Wen Qing had gone before continuing, “What are you doing here alone?”
Nie MingJue certainly struck a fine figure up close with skin damp and golden from standing in the sun. Freckles scattered across his nose and cheeks and covered his ample shoulders. He still had his saber in hand, and while he had respectfully sheathed it in his approach, his grip was not relaxed. It was difficult to tell if it was heat radiating off of him or his anger.
Wen RuoHan smiled. “Alone? Do I not still have your Nie cultivators for company?” And he looked over to the small cluster of cultivators less than discreetly stalking him, keeping an eye on him from the shadows of the nearby trees and building from the first moment he had stepped foot in the Unclean Realm.
Nie MingJue was frowning when Wen RuoHan looked back to him. “Is there something you needed?”
Wen RuoHan opened his mouth, then closed it again. A tricky question. “To greet my host and wish him well.” Normally gifts were offered to new Sect Leaders, but Nie MingJue's rise was years ago. Wen RuoHan had not been informed of the past Sect Leader Nie's death until months later when the grieving period was through and the Qinghe Nie had resolutely shut their gates to outsiders for a time. Wen RuoHan looked to the fan in his hand and held it out to Nie MingJue. “These discussion conferences are deceptively long. Cool off and calm down, or you'll run yourself into the ground before the end.”
Nie MingJue's eyebrows pinched his brow--but he took the fan. Strong fingers curled over it, tighter and tighter until Wen RuoHan waited for it to get crushed beneath his fist.
Would a broken fan make up for a broken saber? The fan, however, meant little to him than some meager relief from the heat.
So he was surprised when Nie MingJue dropped his hand to his side with the fan still held tight. His expression was peculiar, as if he held a hundred words stuffed in his mouth and on his tongue. When he spoke his voice was taut with control.
“If you are unable to find your rooms, I can find someone to escort you.”
“Do you think I'm lost?”
“I gave instructions that everyone was to retire to their rooms when they arrived. Either you are lost or you are trespassing.”
Trespassing. Now there was an accusation Wen RuoHan had never heard of.
And yet an apology fluttered in and out of his thoughts, but it would be ingenuous at best. Wen Qing had warned him and he did not regret what he had seen or done. He was Sect Leader Wen, after all. He had been raised to apologize for nothing.
But he wasn’t out to make enemies. Discussion conferences lasted twice as long when everyone was trying to pick a fight. “A little bit of both,” he conceded lightly, although Nie MingJue looked none too pleased to hear it. “I will retire for the evening then. After seeing your management of the saber training, I am looking forward to your management of tomorrow’s discussion. Be sure not to lose your voice before then.”

The Bebop Blues - [Animal Crossing | Tom Nook x Reader]
[Gender-Neutral Reader | Slow Burn + Tragicomedy]
Chapter Two | Oh My God, They Were Business Partners (Part 1 of 2 | His POV)
[First] | [Previous] | [Next]
Friend.
That word -- however simple -- sounds off, yet he dismisses that when reminded of what it implies.
He wasn't one of those guys.
...Or was he?
Tom sighs and proceeds to wear a jacket for tonight, regardless of how little he feels the need for it. He wasn't taking any chances this time, and much less considering it is them who would have the spotlight tonight. The thought of spending another moment together at the beach makes his face warm up and his heart race twice as fast. Those feelings are fluttery enough to make him feel young again -- like a teen experiencing their first love.
"Ready to go, Tom?"
His heart takes a leap and he has to gather all the strength necessary in order to not display any shock. To cover up, he harrumphs, checks himself one last time in the mirror, and turns around to be greeted by a warm, smiling face. "Y- Yes," Tom blurts out, awestruck. He presses his tail against the counter to hide the fact that it's wagging just like a puppy's and controls his nose to keep it from twitching like a bunny's. "You look wonderful, by the way," he adds, gaining some courage. "The colours compliment you well."
"You think so?" the human asks, smiling. They then grin wide and perform a full, three-sixty spin to show him their outfit, this one mainly composed of a sharp-looking (dress/tux) and shoes fitting for the elegance it gives off, both with a colour opposite to their skin tone. A simpler but no less eye-catching accessory clings onto their head and an umbrella of equal splendour tops off their attire, in spite of it mostly being used to shield them away from the rain. They close the umbrella, step inside, and set it down next to the terminal when he suggests that they do so. "I forgot to buy some shoes that matched with my other outfit, so I had to improvise a bit!"
"...You look lovely, either way," Tom mutters, words nearly a whisper and further difficult to hear when loud thunder crashes from nearby.
"What?" they ask, still smiling, but now raising an (in-game, non-existent) eyebrow. "I, um… I couldn't catch that, I'm afraid."
His throat hurts with how dry it becomes.
Mother Nature has saved him from a possible screw-up, so he takes a moment to close his eyes and thank her in his mind -- multiple times in a row, and quickly, too. Were Resident Services not air-conditioned, he would likely be sweating bullets by now. Electricity and it still being able to work in spite of the growing thunderstorm is yet another thing he's grateful for.
"We should wait until the rain stops a bit more," he says, squinting his eyes to direct a smile back at them. "Would you like to stay for some tea and snacks?"
As if jinxing the situation, Tom sees them pull out a napkin and sneeze into it, though it's evident they try not to be caught by him -- judging by how stealthy they are about it. They go as far as to look away and make the sneeze as quiet as possible, a sight amusing to him, but likely not so much to them. Still, he goes in favour of their wishes and says nothing about it.
"Sure -- That would be nice," they reply, nodding.
He nods back and gestures for them to follow him over to his desk.
"There's a spare jacket over there," he says, pointing with his eyes and nose to a corner of the room, where a few items lay hanging on the wall. "Feel free to use it, if you're cold."
"Thank you."
Though he can't see their face now that he has his back turned to them, Tom feels his chest warm up with the tone they've just used. Notwithstanding it being a simple and quick 'thank you', their voice is what stands out. It's a happy one, with a hint of surprise hidden in it. The thought makes him wonder if he'd caught them by surprise, yet he again reminds himself that he's still only their friend -- getting ahead of himself would do him no good. He'd rather be struck by lightning than even consider the idea of forcing his feelings on them or so much as persuade them into anything.
With that reminder, the man holds in a breath, sighs it out, and goes back to working on the tea afterwards.
He first takes the boiling water from the kettle and pours equal amounts in two cups. Then, he grabs two tea packets, opens them, and sprinkles them in, these instantly sending a subtle, herbal aroma into the air. The process is topped off by some honey, a pinch of sugar, and a mint leaf. A floral scent forms when all the ingredients combine and helps calm his busy mind down to a slight worry, though it doesn't last for long; he takes a quick glance back at the human the very moment he hears their footsteps and fabric shift as they slip the jacket on. Their presence had always left him a bit on-edge, though it's more prominent now that he's acknowledged a different kind of liking towards them. It's even more evident at the present, as it's hard to ignore them with Isabelle currently gone.
Rain drops hitting the roof create a lullaby and prompt him to check on how the line for karaoke's going so far, an observation obtained from the view of the window nearest to him. No more than two people can be seen waiting: one a villager and the other a tourist. The two entertain themselves through some small talk, but there's no denying by the look on their faces that they're not so hopeful about the rain ceasing anytime soon. Tom then shakes his head and lets out another breath when he realizes he's trying to buy himself time to avoid messing up further around the human. After an entire year of knowing them, it felt strange being alone with them now -- as it made him too awkward for his own good.
To fight against that, he picks up both tea cups, turns around, and almost drops them when he sees the state they're in.
They're dozed off on his office chair, managing to look peaceful regardless of them being in such a cramped space. They have his jacket zipped all the way up, and their head is tilted to the side, cuddled up against the hoodie as faint snores leave their mouth, chest rising and falling with each one. It's a true, refreshing sight for Tom's sore eyes, but it ends quickly once another thunder crashes -- louder and undoubtedly closer than the first one.
The sound makes them wake up with a jolt and face him with wide eyes. A tired look combined with their shock causes for him to worry over their well-being more than he often did on a daily basis, so he pushes all his doubts aside and approaches them without further hesitation. "Here's your tea," he says, handing them one of the cups. "It's lemon and orange, with a bit of honey and mint." He smiles when they do and tries not to flinch when their fingers graze his hand as they reach for the tea. "Let me know if it needs more sugar. I'll go search for some snacks now."
"Thanks, Tom," they reply, smile brightening. They then set the cup down on the desk and shift in their seat. Steam rises as they observe the liquid, and a subtle frown shows up on their face. Their contemplative state lasts until more lightning strikes, snapping them out of their trance. "How… How long was I out, anyway? The rain's still going strong."
Growing more and more worried, the man sets his own cup of tea down, rummages through his belongings for a mirror, and gives it to them after. "Only ten minutes or so." His hand stiffens when they grab the mirror and he finds it hard to let it go; their fingers brushing with his palm only worsen his case twice as much. "I don't mean to pry or intervene in anything personal, but…" He breathes in, closes his eyes, and lets his tension out with a quiet huff. "Have you been getting enough rest lately?" His question is a mixture of awkwardness and concern as he tries to push through his uncertainty. "You…" He hesitates. "You seem tired today, even though it is your turn to perform for tonight first."
Just when Tom thinks he's controlled how flustered he feels around his crush, they smile again and contribute to him breaking the world record for fastest pulse.
"That's precisely why I haven't slept much these past few days." Their confession's blunt but serene, allowing his worry to lessen as they continue with, "I practiced for a whole month -- It's... It's a shame I won't be able to sing to a bigger crowd yet, I'll admit. I've been getting ready for far too long now!"
Fire alarms ring in his mind as an idea surges through all of his worries.
"Would you like to sing for me, then?" he asks, gulping tension away.
Silence stays for some time, a would-be good sign -- didn't the human look so taken aback by the offer.
"Of- Of course," they blurt out, eyes wide and mouth agape. "I'd love to!" Far too sudden for him to withstand, they set their cup down once more, stand up, and thank him in the form of a slap to his back -- albeit, carefully to avoid spilling his tea everywhere. "Honestly, I- I can't thank you enough for this. You're the best business partner there is, a- and I'm… I'm super glad to have met you, Tom!"
The human returns to their seat, retrieves their drink, and finishes off what little's left of it. Meanwhile, Tom stares in a daze, at a dire need to recover from both their actions and words alike. He drinks his own cup and later goes to look for some snacks, though he can't quite shake that feeling away. It's like trying to get the scent of herbs out of a shirt. No matter how many times the fabric is washed, the aroma still comes out and brings forth any memories related to it. He had to either keep washing it in hopes of finally getting rid of it -- or accept its fate, and either succumb to it or throw it in the garbage. None of these choices he's too sure of, so he relents with the flow of things for the moment being.
"Again…" Their voice turns quiet as he lays out a bowl of snacks next to their empty cup of tea. "Thank you. You should have some, too!"
The man smiles at them and nods, too stricken to use his words presently.
A few moments later, he sits down beside them and meets their gaze.
"...I should be thanking you for your company," he says, sentence rushing out of his mouth before he can even register the meaning behind it. "You've been a wonderful friend to me, (Y/N)."
They smile back and wink. "Right back atcha, Tom."

always (daichi x y/n)
part 2
genre: exes to lovers, slow burn(?) idk how genre works, sfw, daichi!timeskip
wc: 1.2k
a/n: thank you everyone for liking always part 1 TwT i almost cried seeing so many daichi stans reading and liking it. one more part to go! enjoy :D likes and reblogs are highly appreciated :))
part one , part two , part three
Small tears formed in the corner of your eyes. Such a sweet sentiment from someone that you only saw twice a week. There are still good things in this world. It’s always the small things that make people going. You flipped open your computer but then noticed her packing her stuff.
“Ah, Kaori-san. Are you going back home?”
“Yes, y/n-san. I got my work finished early today so I’m heading out. Do you still have a lot of work to do?”
“I’m just gonna finish everything today so I can leave early on Friday. Have a safe trip back home”
And you did stay here, rigorously typing the report and finishing the final touches of your presentation tomorrow. You glanced at the clock, it’s already 9 huh. Just one last push before you get that sweet, sweet week off. You pressed save and backed up everything, turning off your computer. You gather your stuff and start heading down, home. It looks like you were the only one left in the building, with only a few guards and janitors roaming around the halls. As you were about to pass through the auto gates, you noticed the same figure you saw when you took a break. Your breath hitched, pulse drumming inside your veins. It was almost like you forgot how to breathe. You stood at the gate for a while since he hasn’t noticed your presence just yet, gathering your scattered courage. You want to get out, away from him before your body follows what your heart wants. But before your body could even follow your mind, Daichi moved first, picking up the pace as he walked to you, as if he heard what your heart wanted.
“Hey y/n”
“Hey Sawamura, are you looking for someone?”
It pains Daichi that you used his last name. You made it very clear to him that whatever you both had was over, just how he wanted but somehow, it didn't feel right. After these months being away and not having you by his side felt so foreign, it was as if he was a void, an empty shell. His emotions went numb. He relies on his brain to function, keeping him alive but beyond that, he shuts off. Everything went stagnant, stale. Now, you’re in front of him again but he couldn’t reach you. He wants you. He needs you. He wants to fix whatever it is between you and he knows he has to do it now. He fumbled his fingers before speaking up again, shifting his gaze straight into your eyes. You felt a loud thump in your heart.
“Umm no, actually... I was waiting for you”
“Why? Did I leave anything at your place?”
“No! You didn’t unfortunately… I just wanted to come by and see… you know, how you're doing and… stuff…”
“That's nice Sawamura but I think you should focus on your girl now. Don't want her to think we’re up to something. I gotta go now, it's been a long night.”
“Yeah, it's pretty late already. Are you okay with me accompanying you back home?”
“It's okay Sawamura. Drive safely okay?”
You walked past him, towards the parking lot. Why? Why are you still the sweet person you are, just as how he remembers it? Your warmth was like the morning sun, embracing him at his most vulnerable state. Home. He wants to pull your figure into his embrace, flushing into his built. He wants that warmth to dissipate into him. Make him feel alive again. What did go wrong in your relationship? Before he could even try to pull back the memory, he was struck again by your words. Her. Who is her? Daichi swore he is not drunk and pretty sure that there's not yet a her now. He whipped his head in your direction but your shadow was long gone.
The long-awaited week off finally arrived. You started the day by cleaning up your house, airing up everything. Pillows, mattress, your plushies. Doing chores always make you feel productive, jamming through the blasting speakers of your “heads boppin walkin alone” playlist. You tried a new breakfast recipe that you saw on Tik Tok and turned out really good. The weather is so good today, it felt like a waste if you spend time indoors. You washed up quickly, you stared at your wardrobe, thinking what outfit of the day you should try now. Pushing one hanger at a time, you saw the sundress that Daichi bought for you. A knee-length dusty sage sundress, with pleated around the skirt area, v-lined, and half-arm length sleeves. Slipping into your white sandals, you grabbed your bag and headed out to your favorite bookstore. One whole week of doing nothing might as well pick up a new book.
You passed through the antique, small indie coffee shop that Daichi found while he was doing his morning runs. You stare through the display window, laughing to yourself. Wouldn't it be funny if Daichi was here? You let yourself into the shop. At this moment, you truly believe you hold the power to jinx yourself when it comes to Daichi. It’s the second time the universe loves seeing you suffer. He was there with his training jacket and shorts. Sweats were still visible on his sideburns. His coffee almost slipped from his grasp when he saw you, but what surprised him more - he saw you in the dress he bought. His heart felt a live pulse, a too-familiar feeling growing inside him.
“Hey y/n”
“Hey Sawamura”
“Fancy meeting you here”
“Yeah, I came here to pick up a new book from the old bookstore”
“Oh, nice. You’ve always been a reader”
An awkward chuckle escaped your lips. Oh, how you wished you had the power to fast-forward time. The tension between you could cut slice anything that comes into your space. Daichi chose to break the silence.
“Hey y/n, I know it’s a bit too early but are you free ton-. Sorry”
His ringtone caught his attention. He still used the old ringtone that you set for him. It made you soft and blushed a little. Daichi swayed his hands towards his back pocket, swiping through to pick up whoever’s calling. You swore you heard a small devil whisper inside you, wishing whoever called Daichi, their pinky gonna meet every corner they can get. Your heart almost stopped beating when you heard a woman's voice through the grills. Your gut feeling was proven more after you saw Daichi’s smile. You snapped back yourself back into the harsh and cruel reality. Enough is enough. You need to move on. Daichi already did it. What's stopping you?
While Daichi was busy answering his call, you took your coffee and went straight back home. Just as he hung up, he was greeted by your trailing dust. He missed his chance twice to have a proper conversation with you. Is fate trying to test him or is there something else that it wants to tell? Either way, he knows he shouldn’t give up, just as his feelings never did. Especially after the two unexpected meetings with you, he knows at least this - you haven’t yet rejected his existence near you. He cupped his face, gathering all ideas to have a longer, more open conversation with you, hoping you would still feel the same. He wished hard for a slight amber within your heart that he could reignite it and start anew, fresh new pages with you. He texted you as soon as he exited the shop, guessing by now you have his number unblocked.

Prisoner - Part 9
FEBRUARY, 1067 - NORMAN CONQUEST OF ENGLAND
Henry Cavill is a respected Norman baron who has been tasked with finding Thomasin Latymer, an ill-tempered Saxon noblewoman, and returning her to London so the king can marry her off to a cruel Norman invader. The two grow close during the long journey, and Henry puts his own life in danger (more than once) to protect the woman he loves.

“We’ve finally run out of wine,” Roger said mournfully. “I knew sooner or later this moment would come, but now that it’s here I must say I’m grieved for the loss.”
Charlie smiled but didn’t open his eyes. “Shut your eyes. You can dream about all the wine we’ll have in London. They’re all doing it.”
He referred to the sleeping men all around them. They were sprawled out in strange positions even though they were all packed together in two or three large clumps to keep warm. After the events of the last few days – and specifically yesterday afternoon – they were too tired to care if Hammond and the Saxons came back and killed them.
The nuns’ presence was somehow reassuring, too. Surely no one in their right mind would attack a bride of the Church, but that wasn’t the only reason they were relaxed. Sister Aldith and the young nun – she called herself a postulant – had gone around tending to the men’s wounds regardless of how small they were. Sister Aldith was quite maternal, and the men all subconsciously decided that there was nothing to fear with their mother watching over them.
“I wonder if we’ll ever make it to London,” Roger said ruefully. The sky had just begun to lighten; dawn was only an hour or so away and he dreaded the thought of facing another long day.
“We will,” said Charlie. “I will get back to London and have a large drink and a hot bath if it’s the last thing I do.”
“Is that Henry coming out of Lady Thomasin’s tent?”
Charlie cracked his eyes open. Henry was walking toward them and Charlie could already tell he was in a mood.
Henry carefully picked his way through the labyrinth of bodies to reach his brother and friend. Kal, too large and awkward to wade into the crowd, patrolled the perimeter of sleeping men to ensure all were accounted for and sleeping soundly.
“Good morning,” Roger said brightly.
“It’s not morning,” Charlie said pointedly, shutting his eyes again.
“He’s right,” Henry agreed. “There’s no reason for you to be cheery at this ungodly hour, Roger.”
“I’m always cheery.”
“What were you doing in Lady Thomasin’s tent?” Charlie asked.
“Just wanted to be sure all was well.”
“And is it?” asked Roger.
“It was until I woke her,” Henry replied. “I’m going to ride ahead to London. I’ll be there in two days if I only take a handful of men with me.”
“In a hurry?” Roger asked.
“It’s a good idea,” Charlie said. “King William will be wondering where we are. The last thing we need is for him to send someone to fetch us.” And the sooner Henry was in London, the sooner he could ask for her hand, the sooner Charlie’s weeks-long headache over Henry’s shameless pining would be over. “By my reckoning, it will take us four or so more days to get there depending on how long we have to wait for Thomasin to heal enough to ride.”
“And how long it will take to escort the nuns back to their convent,” Roger added.
Henry took a deep breath through his nose. The last thing he wanted to think about was that convent. He had no doubt Thomasin could get away from Charlie and Roger if she wanted to – she need only make up some excuse to set foot on church grounds and she would be granted sanctuary. He just didn’t want to picture it.
“Yes,” he said.
“Are you leaving now?”
“Yes. The sooner the better.”
“All right, then,” said Roger. “We’ll see you in a few days.”
Henry grunted in reply. Then, a moment later, “Make sure she doesn’t get shot again.”
*
“What are you thinking about?” Stephanie asked.
She woke only a few minutes after Henry left. She’d slept late by the convent’s standards; she would ordinarily be more than halfway through mass in the chapel by now. Instead she was working to mend Thomasin’s gown. It was beyond saving at this point, but it had to hold up until she reached London.
Thomasin lay half on her back and half on her side. She sighed through her nose. “Henry. He called me Tom.”
“That’s awfully familiar of him.”
“I hate being called Tom. It’s a man’s name,” Thomasin continued, ignoring her sister’s statement. “You and Justina are the only ones who call me that and only because you know I hate it.”
Stephanie shrugged.
“He wants to marry me.”
“I know,” Stephanie said.
“What?” Thomasin pushed herself into a sitting position. The pain of exerting her injured arm and shoulder nearly knocked her back down, but she forced herself to stay upright. “How do you know?”
“He told me so,” Stephanie said simply.
Thomasin’s eyes and nostrils widened in rage. “When was this?”
“While you were asleep.”
“And what – he casually mentioned that he’d like to shackle himself to me for the rest of his life?”
Stephanie shrugged her narrow shoulders. “I asked him.” She didn’t look up from her sewing.
“Why in God’s name –”
“You mustn’t take the Lord’s name in vain, Tom.”
“Don’t call me Tom!” the younger girl shouted. “What possible reason could you have for asking him if –”
“I haven’t seen you in four years.” Stephanie’s eyes flickered up to Thomasin’s. “Our father is dead now. There’s no one left to look after you. I wanted to know what’s to become of my little sister.” Thomasin averted her eyes so Stephanie wouldn’t see the tears gathering in them. “Will you marry him?”
“Yes, if the king allows it,” Thomasin said. “I’m sure he will.”
“Do you want to marry him?”
Thomasin pulled her eyebrows together. “Are you saying I ought to take my chances with a stranger?”
“No,” Stephanie said. “I’m saying you don’t have to marry at all.”
*
Henry rode halfway through the night, and when he did stop, it was more for the horses’ sake than his or his men’s. The faster they get to London, the better, to his way of thinking.
He’d grown used to sleeping near Thomasin. Even on the nights when Henry wasn’t in the tent with her, he was always nearby. He worried she would attempt to escape again and somehow hurt herself – or, more likely, one of the men.
Once, he even slept directly outside of the tent; he could’ve reached out and touched her were it not for the sheet of fabric separating them.
Kal took the liberty of snuggling up tight against his master. He fixed his brown eyes on Henry and exhaled through his nose as though he were sighing.
Henry sighed back. “I miss her, too,” he murmured.
They only slept for a few hours; once dawn broke, the men were mounted and riding again. They reached London by nightfall.
Henry went straight from the stables to the throne room without stopping to remove his armor. He instead removed it as he walked, letting the pieces fall to the ground. Jamie, ever the dutiful squire, did his best to catch them all.
During his conquest, William the Bastard had saved the capital, England’s greatest prize, for last.
He invaded in December after first laying siege to the surrounding area to weaken the people’s spirits and make them more pliable to his intentions. He lay waste to the surrounding countryside, cutting off all supply routes to the city, then intentionally left the people to stew for weeks before finally attacking and capturing the city.
It was about a month since Henry had left this castle to return Lady Thomasin at the king’s behest.
Henry had only been to William’s castle once before, but he had the palace’s layout nearly memorized. He did not need to be escorted to the throne room, but a servant led him through the halls anyway for the sake of formality.
He passed a handful of acquaintances and friends but did not stop to speak with them. He was about the king’s business and could not be delayed.
The heavy wooden doors to the throne room opened and the servant fell into a theatrical bow. “Your grace, Baron Cavill’s fourth son, Henry, is here to see you”
“Ah, Henry!” the king called from his seat on the throne. “Do come in.”
William the Conqueror was nearly forty years of age. He was remarkably strong and clever, and no one in the world could rival his skill as a horseman or swordsman; he was growing steadily rounder with age, though, and his brown hair was dappled with grey.
Henry knelt before the raised dais the throne sat upon and put his hand over his heart. “Your grace.”
“Stand,” William said with a smile. He returned to his throne and took a seat. “Henry, I cannot help but notice that you arrived with two dozen knights and no Saxon woman. Has she escaped you?”
Not yet.
“No, Sire. Our party was set upon by a band of Saxon rebels while we were on the road. Lady Thomasin was injured in the fray.”
“Injured how?”
Henry took a deep breath. William would likely blame him for her injuries, since he was the one tasked with protecting her. “Lady Thomasin was struck twice with arrows. One went through the top of her arm, just here –” he pointed to a spot on his arm “ – and the other struck her in the left shoulder from behind. We don’t know if the arrow was meant to kill her or not.”
“Saxons did this?” William asked, brows furrowed. “Didn’t they know she was one of their own?”
Henry cleared his throat. “Her brother is the one who shot her. He’s the finest archer I’ve ever seen; shooting Lady Thomasin was no accident.”
William’s eyes widened in disbelief. “He shot his own sister?”
Henry’s throat tightened. “Yes.”
William shook his head the slightest bit. “Saxons.” They were wild as pagans, this lot, and apparently sororicidal. William wouldn’t say such things about his new subjects of course, but the thought was in his mind as it was in every other Norman’s. “Continue.”
“The arrowhead was trapped within the flesh; we could not remove it. We had to summon healers from an abbey. They had to cut into her shoulder from the front to find the arrowhead and dig it out.”
The king winced in sympathy. “Poor woman. Will she live?”
“Yes. She’s well enough to shout at me, but I want her to recover more before traveling.”
William nodded. “I think that’s wise. I must say I am surprised that you came here to tell me instead of sending a messenger.”
“Lady Thomasin is my responsibility. I thought it only proper to tell you myself.” He took a deep breath to summon his courage. “And I wish to speak to you about another matter concerning the lady.”
William motioned for Henry to stop speaking. “Tomorrow, perhaps, or the day after, after you tell me the rest of your tale. Tonight you will eat and rest. And bathe,” he added with a grin. “I fear the ladies at court will swoon if they smell you too closely.”
Henry smiled to himself remembering what happened the last time he attempted to bathe. “Thank you, your grace.”
Henry thought to bathe before sleeping, but after weeks of travel to and from Thomasin’s home, the bed was too warm and inviting to refuse. Kal had already claimed the side closer to the door in case he needed to protect Henry from intruders.
Henry removed the last of his traveling clothes before he flopped down on his stomach beside the snoring beast. He was so tired, he almost didn’t get under the covers.
He fantasized about how he and Thomasin would keep each other warm – how they’d work themselves into a sweat. Her plush lips and agile tongue sucking and licking while his hands were knotted in her thick hair. And later her plush thighs spread wide to cradle his hips, her pink passage wet and waiting to welcome him home.
He imagined her draped over his chest like a heavy blanket. He’d still be sheathed within her, of course, both to increase their chances of conception and because it was warm and comfortable. She’d press her ear to his chest to listen to his heartbeat while he stroked her hair to soothe her. Maybe she’d fall asleep in the middle of arguing with him over some small thing.
He smiled in his sleep.
He did not wake until after noon the next day.
*
The travelers took a short break to water the horses before resuming the journey to the abbey. Charlie thought it was best for everyone to travel together rather than send the nuns off with only a handful of guards to escort them back to the convent. Thomasin had asked to ride with her sister, but he denied her request. She asked for a horse of her own; he denied her again, instead commanding her to ride with him. “For your comfort,” he explained. The same words Henry had spoken to her on the night he stole her away. She didn’t like hearing them again. She felt like she was being imprisoned all over again.
“It’s not too late to change your mind,” Stephanie murmured to her sister as they attended to personal matters in the woods.
“I’m not changing my mind,” Thomasin replied firmly. “Besides, Henry’s brother practically has me in chains. He expects me to attempt some sort of escape.” She’d done it before, after all.
“The bride must consent to be married,” Stephanie said. “You could say no.”
Thomasin rolled her eyes.
“You could! And if these Normans are as chivalrous as you say, they won’t –”
“Enough!” Thomasin groaned. She lifted her threadbare skirts and started walking back toward the horses. “I don’t want to discuss this anymore.” The more Stephanie pressed her, the less sure she was of her choice.
She could not survive in a nunnery, she reminded herself. It was smarter to take her chances with Henry, who found her temper amusing, than to be broken like a horse.
That had always been her fear: having to change who she was down to her very core. Because if she changed, she would no longer be herself. And if she did not consent to change, to bend to another’s will, she’d certainly be broken.
“I care for Henry,” Thomasin continued. “And he loves me.” She tightened her grip on the signet ring he gave her. It gave her comfort somehow.
Stephanie huffed. “But do you love him?”
*
A hot bath, clean shave, good meal, and deathlike slumber revived Henry. He was dressed in clean clothes of a rich blue color that resembled his eyes. He was always charming and well-tempered, but tonight he seemed almost to glow with charisma.
Even dear Queen Matilda, William’s beloved wife, commented on his fine mood when he stopped to greet her when he entered the hall. “How fine you look, Henry,” she said with a wide smile.
“Thank you, madam,” he said, bowing. He flashed her a grin that exposed his fanglike canines. “Strong wine and a soft bed are the best remedies to anything, in my opinion.”
“The wine especially.”
Matilda was short and generously proportioned. Her husband stood some twelve inches above her, and he had to bend down to hear her whenever she whispered to him. She was friendly and kind and William doted on her – he even showed her affection in public. Theirs was a love match.
*
Henry waited until after supper when all the ladies and children had left the hall to relay his tale to the various knights and barons of William’s court. He’d have to tell it a dozen more times, he imagined, but most of the women, children, and servants at court could hear it from their men.
He left out the parts about being present in her chamber while she dressed and touching her, but he spared no detail when describing her appearance and repeating the things she said. Some of the noblemen present grimaced or remarked that they’d never allow a woman to disrespect them, especially a Saxon woman, but most chuckled good-naturedly.
Henry was thoroughly pleased with everyone’s reactions. He was proud of his woman. He slept well, looking forward to his conversation tomorrow with the king, blissfully unaware of what was to come.
(Sorry for the terrible ending, had to cut it off because the next chapter is long)

_______
"Never think of never let this spell last forever"
Your eyes fluttered open as the bedside clock struck seven. The chill of the room made you not even want to think of getting up. You stretched your leg out until you felt the warmth of the body beside you. Turning as gently as possible, you smiled at Regulus’ sleeping form. You couldn't help but smile at how innocent he looked sleeping.
There is nothing innocent about him.
Your mind supplied as you resisted the urge to stroke the bedridden curls out of his eyes. Regulus was never a morning person. You had learned this the hard way.
He will be just fine once I get my mouth on him.
You thought gleefully. It took every ounce of self-control that you had not to jump on him. This was what you did almost every morning for the past six months. Regulus was always snippy until he realized that you on top of him actually worked to his advantage.
Everything is about to change…
The negative thoughts seemed to rush in and chase the sweet fluffy feelings of the morning out. You slowly lay back down beside your lover wondering if this was going to be the last morning?
For the past six months, you had been hiding with Regulus. After you witnessed Evan Rosier commit a rather unfortunate murder, the death eater had a gone on a psychotic quest to end your life. Your older brother Remus, realizing that you were in a decent amount of danger, decided to hide you somewhere safe. It was Sirius that suggested sending you to Regulus. His own brother was laying low as it was. After deflecting from the death eaters, Regulus was keeping his “nose clean” and staying out of the way.
Remus was hesitant at first. You were against it. The last thing that you were going to do was go hideout with some boy that used to make your life hell as a child. You would rather go right up to Evan and give him a big “fuck you” to the face and beat the shit out of him. The last thing that you wanted to do was spend any amount of time with Regulus. Besides, since when was it Remus’ decision on what happened in your life? You were a big girl and was totally capable of making your own decisions.
“If you don’t go there is a good chance that you could be harmed. You know that I can’t guard you 24/7. Sirius is off on missions a lot. I’m sure Regulus has grown up. If he tries to pull your hair again just punch him. I know that you can do that.”
At the time Remus’ comment made you want to punch your own brother in the face. Of course, you would feel bad about it later but at the time Remus deserved it.
You finally agreed to stay with Regulus when Sirius begged you shamelessly. Whether you wanted to admit it or not, your “brother-in-law” had a soft place in your heart that not many people did. You had a soft spot for Sirius since the moment he told you how bad his life at home was and how he was only happy at school.
The first few weeks with Regulus was awkward. The boy that you remembered from school had one hell of a glow-up from graduation. It didn’t matter if it had been only a few months since the two of you had last seen each other...damn had he changed! Regulus was still on the slender side of things but he had grown his hair out and grown in height another inch or two. You found yourself staring at him over dinner every night wondering if he had always been this attractive? Fuck, he was attractive with that “Black family scowl” that resulted in him looking perpetually bored.
It was stupid to fall in love with Regulus. There was no way that your family would ever approve. They would take one look at the dark mark on his arm and automatically panic. It didn’t help that Regulus took no steps to keep it hidden. It was just part of who he was no and if someone didn’t like looking at it...oh fucking well.
Oh, shigity, I am in trouble.
That was the thought that plagued you for days. Anytime that you were near Regulus, you were mentally telling yourself to stop. You would be wasting your time. Regulus wouldn’t want some girl to tie him down. Why would he want you anyway?
It was Regulus that made the first move. It happened one night when you were peaking out of the curtain at the street below. There was some kind of festival going on and it was nice to see other humans again. Even if you couldn’t interact with them, seeing people doing “normal” things was nice.
You weren’t sure how long you had been watching the people below. When Regulus’ hand had closed on your wrist, you jumped away from the window like a child whose hand was caught in the cookie jar.
“Close the damn curtain. If people see in here we are both doomed.”
Regulus snapped. You frowned, wanting nothing more than to sass him. He had hardly spoken to you in weeks and you were getting sick of it. You didn’t expect him to have some long conversation but a word ever so often would be nice.
“Excuse the fuck out of me for wanting to see other humans.”
You hissed. Regulus had you against the wall before your mind was able to process what had happened.
“If you want to go out there and get killed by the death eaters in the crowd then go for it girl. I bet you didn’t see Dolohov or any of his henchmen out there, did you?”
You shook your head. Regulus rolled his eyes.
“I didn’t think so. I told your brother that I wouldn’t let anything happen to you and I’m not going to. You might as well get over it.”
“What are you going to do if I don’t mind you? Pull my hair again? We aren’t in school anymore, Regulus.”
Regulus smirked at the mention of his previous behavior. He never picked on you to be an ass. Regulus had a ridiculous crush on you and had no clue what to do about it. He never had any great role models when it came to healthy relationships.
“Do you want me to pull your hair?”
The comment had left his mouth a little more sassy than he planned. You only blinked at him with wide doe eyes. Regulus didn’t care if you wanted to admit it or not but you were shocked with his words.
When you didn’t respond quickly enough for his liking Regulus reached down and kissed you...that was how it began. You wouldn’t admit to anyone, Remus especially, that after that sassy little exchange with Regulus something changed between the two of you. The line of annoyed childhood enemies who got under each other’s skin had been crossed forever.
You would forever smile at the memory of that night...your first time….
You lay between Regulus’ spread legs with your head on his chest. The both of you had finally given up after making love at least twice. Regulus’ fingers stroked a gentle path through your hair as the two of you working on getting your breathing back to normal.
“You didn’t tell me that it was your first time.”
He commented. You didn’t move to look up at him. At the moment, you simply wanted to enjoy listening to his heartbeat.
“You didn’t really ask.”
You replied. Regulus sighed.
“I feel like a dick..just so you know.”
You finally poked your head up and moved up enough to earn a groan from Regulus. His cock was trapped between your bodies and the friction was enough to make him want you all over again.
“I like it this way. I don’t need poetry and some romantic escapade for the first time.”
You said, pressing a small kiss to his lips. Regulus’ dark eyes were locked on your face before pulling your body back down against his.
“If that’s the way you want it.”
The next six months were a lot like the “first time.” You had started sleeping in Regulus’ bed and for lack of a better term playing “house.”
Today, however, was the changing point. Remus was supposed to be coming by with Sirius to pick you up, if things were “safe.” The last thing that you wanted to think about was leaving Regulus. I love you hadn’t been uttered by Regulus nor yourself but that didn’t mean that you weren’t thinking it. After month four, you were in the complete realization that you were in love with Regulus. You loved him but was afraid to admit it. What if he didn’t feel the same? What if I am just a plaything to him? Will I be able to live with that? Those were the questions that stopped you anytime that you came close to telling Regulus that you loved him.
Pulling yourself from your thoughts, you leaned over and pressed a kiss to Regulus’ cheek. He groaned and squeezed his eyes closed tighter.
“Too early.”
He whined. You smiled and sat up.
“Where are you going?”
Regulus asked, upon realizing that you were getting out of bed.
“I’m going to make some tea.”
“I said it's too early. Lay back down and keep me warm.”
You reached out to gently stroke his head. Regulus sighed, cuddling down into the pillow a bit more.
“I’m thirsty. You’ll be fine for just a moment.”
You replied before getting out of bed. Pulling on the silk dressing gown that Regulus had torn off of you the night before, you turned back to your lover. His dark eyes were on you, watching every move.
“Come back.”
He ordered. You blew him a kiss before stepping out of the room. Regulus shook his head with a smile before the realization of what today was hit home.
Remus is coming to take her away.
Regulus automatically snarled at the thought. The last thing that he wanted was for you to leave him. He didn’t care what Remus said, unless Evan was dead, you had no business leaving. He didn’t want you to. For the first time in his life, Regulus had something of a love life...a healthy love life and he didn’t want to give that up.
Remus will never agree to Y/n being with me. He won’t accept it no matter what we have to say. I can say that I love her until I’m blue in the face but it won’t be good enough...wait, I love her? I do love her!
Regulus lay staring at the ceiling as the realization of his feelings finally became clear. He knew that he loved you before but didn’t want to accept it.
Its a fucking great time to be in love with her...she’s leaving today. Good job, Regulus.
He thought with a scowl before getting out of bed and pulling on a pair of abandoned pants. Regulus knew that there was no way that you would consider not going with your brother. You would never choose him over Remus.
I might as well enjoy what time that I have with her.
(meanwhile)
You stood in the kitchen waiting for the water to boil. The kitchen was colder than normal this particular morning. Shivering, you wished that you had put on a bit more clothing.
Regulus’ arms around your waist made you jump. He quickly lifted you onto the countertop. You didn’t fight Regulus as he pulled you against him by your thighs.
“You scared me.”
You said with a giggle as Regulus tugged at the belt of your dressing gown until the garment opened.
“You look like you are alright.”
Regulus replied with a cheeky smile. Wrapping your legs around his waist preserving the contact. You quickly pulled Regulus into a deep kiss. His mouth consumed yours as he pushed you further onto the counter. Regulus swiftly moved from kissing your lips to making a path down your neck. Your eyes closed in ecstasy as he sucked a new love bite onto your skin. Lolling your head to the side, you wanted nothing more than to give Regulus better access to your tender flesh. Between your new kink for love bites and when he would bite down during making out; it was no wonder that your neck was bruised up most of the time. As soon as one love bite would heal, Regulus would give you another one. You wanted to think that this was his way of saying, “you’re mine.”
“Shall we go back to bed?”
You managed to say. Regulus shook his head as he tugged the dainty silk dressing gown off of your shoulders. The way that you laying with your head back made your breasts look fuller than they already were and Regulus was not about to lose this visual.
“No...right here.”
His words were curt and short. Regulus wanted to make damn sure that you knew that he wanted you here and this was where it was going to happen. Returning his mouth back to your neck for a moment, he placed a sweet chaste kiss on the forming bruise on your neck. His attention then went to your breasts. He started a tortuously slow attack on them. Nipping at the plump flesh, Regulus took his time with each and every inch of your soft breasts. Regulus’ hand squeezed the other breast greedily.
“You’re so greedy.”
You moaned earning a small smile from Regulus.
“Just greedy for you, darling.”
Regulus replied as he gave you a devious little smirk before spreading your legs wider. Kneeling down, Regulus kissed a path over your hip bone to your thigh. He was pleased when you whined his name.
“Reggie, please.”
Regulus gave you a wink before nuzzling your thigh.
“Such a sweet little love.”
Regulus said, placing a chaste kiss to your mound. You were dying to Regulus to use that talented tongue of his to make you come. At the moment, you were dying to come.
“Regulus…”
You were silenced when he put a finger to your lips.
“Hush now.”
Regulus said gently as he went back to kissing and nuzzling your thighs. Every little sigh of desire made drove Regulus further and further.
Damn it, I love her. I can’t let her go...I need her.
Regulus had to shove the unfamiliar thoughts of love on the back burner. If this was the last time that the two of you would “be together” he didn’t want to spend it being depressed over the realization that you would soon be gone from his life.
Spreading your legs a bit more, he looked up at you. Your eyes met as he took his tongue along your slit. Sighing, your head fell back as Regulus lavished his attention on your clit.
“Reggie...darling…”
You wanted to tell him that you loved him but you stopped. Now wasn’t the time to tell him that you loved him. Saying “I love you” with your boyfriend eating you out probably wasn’t the best time. Regulus probably wouldn’t take it very seriously.
Regulus stopped abruptly. He didn’t want to wait anymore. At the moment, he wanted what was his...possibly for the last time.
Pushing his pants down, Regulus kicked them to the side before pushing in. You gasped at the sudden fullness as Regulus pressed in balls deep.
“Feel nice?”
Regulus questioned as he started a slow rhythm which already had your legs trembling. His hands clutched your thighs, enjoying the feeling of your shaking thighs.
“Always.”
You said as your eyes closed.
“No, look at me.”
Regulus ordered. Your eyes immediately opened watching as Reguls bit his bottom lip. His dark eyes were locked on you as you looked over his body. You had to hold back a sigh as you watched the muscles in his stomach tense with each thrust.
My prince charming…
You couldn’t help smiling at the thought. Regulus gave you a small smile as if he could read your thoughts. Had he actually been able to, Regulus would have known how much actually loved him.
“Focus, love.”
Regulus groaned. Your breathing increased and your back arched. Regulus knew that your release was quickly coming. It wouldn’t take much for Regulus to get multiple releases out of you.
You cried out as your first orgasm flowed through you. Regulus pushed in balls deep against to pull you into a deep kiss.
“Come on. I know you can be louder than that. I want to hear you.”
Regulus normally cast a silencing charm when the two of you made love. He wanted to make sure that the two of you were being safe. The less that the neighbors heard the better. Regulus made sure that the neighbors knew next to nothing about neither of you. To them, the young couple next door was secretive and secluded...Regulus wanted to keep it that way.
Today, however, desperation won out over carefulness. Regulus had left his wand upstairs in his haste to get to you.
“Time to really make you come.”
Regulus wrapped his hands around your waist and pulled you into his arms. You expected Regulus to carry you to the couch. The two of you had made love there many times over the past few months. To your surprise, Regulus gently laid you down on the cold stone kitchen floor. He grabbed your dressing gown and balled it up to shove under your head.
“Spread your legs. Give me what’s mine.”
You didn’t need to be told twice. Regulus took his place between your legs and filled you again to resume his pace. From his position, Regulus had the best vantage point. Between watching your breasts bounce with each thrust to watching his cock fill your pussy; Regulus knew that he wouldn’t be lasting long at all.
“Close”
That was all that you could say as Regulus quickly picked up his pace until you threw your arms around his shoulders.
“Yes, that feels great, sugar.”
Regulus purred as you came apart underneath him. He pumped into you a few more times. You cried out the moment that you felt his cock pulse and the sudden warmth fill you.
The two of you didn’t even get to enjoy the afterglow due to someone knocking on the door. Regulus quickly stood up and pulled you back to your feet.
“He’s early.”
Regulus said as you gathered up your dressing gown. You knew that this should be the time that you told Regulus that you didn’t want to leave him but you couldn’t speak.
“Hurry and get upstairs.”
Regulus snapped. He was quickly becoming the cold boy that you had met on the first day. Your lover was on the backburner. Doing as you were told you hurried upstairs and left Regulus to quickly redress in the kitchen.
“I’m coming, Lupin.”
Regulus snapped as he buttoned his shirt. Opening the door, both Sirius and Remus stood on the other side. Sirius smirked at his younger brother’s disheveled appearance. This was certainly different from the normally well put together boy that Sirius was used to. He never saw Regulus looking this sloppy.
“Burning the candle at both ends, Reg?”
Regulus rolled his eyes and moved aside to let Sirius and Remus come inside.
“I just woke up, Sirius.”
You walking downstairs stopped the conversation. Remus smiled seeing you for the first time in 6 months. This had been the longest that he had ever gone without seeing his sister and he was more than excited to get you back home.
“Y/n, it's good to see you. I’ve missed you.”
You quickly hugged your brother. Saying that you weren’t happy to see Remus would have been a lie. You missed your older brother fiercely since the day he left you in Regulus’ care. You just didn’t want to leave with him.
“I’ve missed you too, Remus. It's good to see you.”
Remus patted your face and handed you off to Sirius who hugged you as if he hadn’t seen you in 20 years. Turning back to Regulus, Remus could see a strange expression of what looked like regret in the other man’s eyes.
“Thank you for taking care of her, Regulus.”
Regulus nodded but didn’t speak. Remus turned back to you with a smile.
“We should get going.”
You quickly turned to Regulus as if begging him to say something. Was this really going to be goodbye? Did Regulus expect you to just walk away as if nothing had been going on between the two of you?
“Remus...I….”
You started. Remus frowned, tilting his head. He could see that you were struggling with something. Remus wasn’t sure what it was. Were you afraid that you would still be in danger? That would be the case and you no longer had nothing to worry about. Evan had been killed by Moody. You could come home and be comfortable.
“Everything is fine. You have nothing to worry about.”
Remus gently wrapped his hand around yours to pull you along. You looked over your shoulder to Regulus. He quickly moved from his stagnant position.
“Y/n, wait.”
You turned around to face Regulus. He quickly shoved his way between Remus and yourself.
“I don’t want to go.”
You quickly said, ignoring how Sirius and Remus would look at each other. Regulus was totally ignoring Remus and his own brother. If they wanted to sit and listen to this conversation then they could have at it.
“I don’t want you to either. I’m in love with you.”
Your mouth dropped. This was everything that you wanted to hear. Regulus did have feelings for you! It wasn’t just a physical affair.
“I love you too.”
You replied before turning to face your brother. Remus looked completely stunned.
“I love him, Remus and I don’t want to go with you. I’ll always be your sister and you can come to see me anytime that you like but I want to be with Regulus.”
You waited for Remus to object, to say something about Regulus being a death eater...anything to try to stop you from wanting to stay. Remus, meanwhile, smiled.
“How long has this little affair been going on?”
“6 months.”
You answered. Remus looked thoughtful for a moment.
“Well, I wish you would have written to me. I could have saved myself a trip.”
You were totally stunned by your brother’s comment. Sirius looked equally as stunned. He hadn’t said anything since Regulus said “I love you.”
“You’re not going to throw a tantrum?”
You questioned as Regulus wrapped his arms around you from behind. This was his ultimate test. If Remus didn’t freak out over Regulus touching you in front of him then maybe there was some actual hope.
Remus shrugged.
“I knew that you would fall in love with someone sometime. If you need anything, you know how to get a hold of me.”
Remus patted your cheek before dragging a still clearly stunned Sirius (who was muttering about his brother and remus’ sister liking each other) along with him. Regulus turned to look at you with a small smile. This was the last thing that he had expected to happen. He had expected you to go with Remus. You would be happy with your brother and friends while Regulus was alone. He would spend the next, God only knew how long, morning your loss.
Now, however, everything was different. You had chosen him. Regulus had finally been chosen first. He wasn’t the one who was always forgotten about anymore.
“I didn’t think that you would choose me.”
Regulus commented as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders. For once, Regulus Black was getting the girl.
“I’ve wanted to tell you that I loved you for a long time. I just didn’t think…”
Regulus gently put a finger on your lips.
“We can both be happy, for once.”
He leaned down for a sweet kiss. This was the first kiss as an actual couple and you couldn’t be happier.
“Just so you know, I have been happy this whole time.”

Y/n ended up picking out a sparkly, blue minidress. Peggy had insisted she buy it months ago, and now she finally had an occasion to wear it. Now that it was on, Y/n wondered why she had never worn it before. It fit her snuggly, accentuating all her best features. And when paired with heels? She felt like some kind of runway model.
If the smile on her face when she looked in the mirror wasn’t enough to boost her ego, the look on Thomas’s face would have sent her over the edge. When she opened the door, he was wearing a confident smirk, but it dropped from his face when he saw what she was wearing.
“Wow. I just... wow.” He stared at her with his mouth open.
Y/n stepped out into the hallway and turned to close the door so he didn’t see the proud smile she has on. “Hm? Have I finally brought Thomas Jefferson to a loss for words?”
Thomas blinked a few times, shook his head, and attempted to recover. “I’m always at a loss for words when it comes to you, angel.”
“Annnndddd he’s back,” she laughed. “Let’s get to that speakeasy now, yeah?”
“Yeah.”
This time there was no awkward silence this time like there had been before their first official date. Thomas had asked Y/n out a few times since then, sometimes it was just for lunch or coffee, sometimes it was front row orchestra tickets. Despite all the dates, Y/n nor Thomas tried to define the relationship, both seemingly happy to have a casual thing between the two of them.
That didn’t change the fact that every time Y/n’s phone buzzed, her serotonin levels raised, and if the text did happen to be from Thomas, she wouldn’t even try to hide her smile. She had attempted to hide her smile before, but discovered it was too tiring an ordeal.
It was true that they had grown quite close over the span of a few weeks, but they still insisted on keeping whatever their relationship was a secret from their friends, co-workers, and family.
“Are we really making a detour to a bookstore?” Y/n asked as Thomas tugged her into a rundown shop.
Thomas raised an eyebrow and glanced back at her. “Angel, what do you think a speakeasy is?”
She narrowed her eyes, wondering if he was trying to insult her or set up a trap. “It’s a secret bar.”
“Yes,” he nodded, “and it wouldn’t be much of a secret if the entrance was in an obvious place.”
Her mouth formed a small ‘o’ when the realization struck her. In the back of the store, Thomas approached a bookstore employee and tapped them on the shoulder. Thomas exchanged a few lines of a Shakespeare sonnet with the employee (a pretentious fact that Y/n made a note to make fun of him for later), and the employee was sliding open a bookcase a few seconds later.
Thomas turned back to smile at Y/n, easily slipping his hand through her’s, and tugging her inside. The bookcase slid shut behind them. Y/n was shocked that a moment ago she had been standing in a quiet bookshop, and now she was standing in a lavish speakeasy.
In one corner of the room, there was an arrangement of opulent lounge chairs. There was a bar in the back of the room where a bartender was mixing up elaborate cocktails, and a small crowd was gathered around him. Jazzy music filled the air, and occupants found any room in the small space to dance wildly with each other.
Y/n wrapped her hand around Thomas’s arm, pulling him closer in case she lost him in the sea of dancing bodies.
“I don’t know if I was expecting it to be so lively,” she spoke loudly in Thomas’s ear.
He shrugged. “It’s the grand opening, I doubt it’s always like this. Want to grab a drink?”
Y/n wanted to say something about the last time she had gotten drunk around him, but the truth is, she did want a drink, so she just nodded. Thomas gripped her hand and they journeyed through the sea of drunken dancers to the bar. After a few minutes, they were able to place their orders for drinks that sounded good in theory, but were more intimidating when the bartender lit the drink on fire.
“So what do you think?” Thomas leaned against the bar, his eyes watching her carefully.
Y/n grinned widely. “I love it here. Glad I didn’t decline your answer to go out tonight.”
“Did you really consider declining?” He laughed, feigning an offended expression.
“The point is, I didn’t,” Y/n said, leaning forward and gripping his arm. “C’mon, let’s go dance.”
Thomas was in no position to deny her, and he happily allowed Y/n to pull him away from the bar and into the lively crowd. Y/n wasn’t an expert dancer, but Thomas made her look good, spinning and swaying in time with the music. She had her arms thrown around his shoulder, her fingertips lightly tapping a rhythm into the fabric of his back as she hummed along to the song playing.
This close to him, Y/n could distinctly smell the scents of cedar and amber on him with a faint trace of cherry blossoms. It was like he had just walked out of the Library of Congress, and she would have believed him if he said he had. Thomas’s hands dug firmly into her skin, pulling her hips so they were flush against his.
They continued dancing like this for a few songs, but by the time the third song came to an end, both of them were nearly out of breath.
“I think I need some water,” Y/n laughed, as their bodies parted slightly.
“I think you’re right,” he grinned. Something caught Thomas’s eye beyond Y/n’s shoulder, and he tapped her hip lightly. “I think I see my client over there, angel. I should go say hi. Would you mind getting me a glass of water as well?”
She stood on her tiptoes and whispered in his ear, “don’t take too long.”
Y/n released him and sauntered over to the bar, making sure to swing her hips with every step, knowing exactly the effect she had on Thomas. He cursed quietly under his breath and shook his head.
Thomas wasn’t planning on spending too much time thanking his client for inviting him to the speakeasy, but now he had even more reason to make the conversation short. He couldn’t have been parted from Y/n for more than five minutes when he found her once more at the bar.
The sight that greeted him wasn’t a pleasant one. A young blonde guy had found his way to her side, and he was leaning in a little too close. Y/n didn’t pay much mind to him, occasionally rolling her eyes at some cheesy pick-up line he was attempting. She felt Thomas’s gaze on her before she turned to see him staring at her a few feet away.
One glance was all she needed to see how worked up he was just having another man talk to her. Y/n sent Thomas a coy smirk and turned to the blonde beside her with a newfound interest.
“What was that you were saying, handsome?” She asked the blonde in a soft tone, her hand reaching up to lightly trace over his tie. Y/n glanced at Thomas, her grin widening a little when she saw his eyes narrowing and his fists clenched at his sides.
“I was wondering if you wanted to come home with me tonight,” the blonde said, stunned at her change in attitude toward him.
“Hm, that’s an interesting off--”
Y/n felt a hand tightly grip the wrist of the hand she had absentmindedly playing with the blonde’s tie. She looked up to see a seething Thomas glaring at her.
“Sorry, she’s already got plans for this evening.” Thomas didn’t waste anymore breath on the blonde, placing his hand on her lower back and leading her away from the bar.
“I can’t leave you alone for a minute, can I?” He growled softly when they were out of earshot.
Thomas brought her back into the crowd of dancers, but the mood had changed immensely since the last time they had been dancing. His hands were holding her body tightly as if he was afraid she might slip away. Y/n could feel the heat of his breath while he slid his hands up and down her body.
“I’m an adult, you don’t have to babysit me,” she shut her eyes momentarily, enjoying the feeling of his body against her’s.
“I wouldn’t have to if you didn’t act like a child.”
Her eyes snapped open and she glared at him. “Bite me.”
Thomas didn’t miss a beat. “Where?”
Y/n gasped softly, her eyes going wide. Thomas didn’t wait long for a reply, pulling her body closer, if that was even possible, and placing his lips on the exposed skin on her neck. He lightly nipped at her skin, and Y/n refrained from letting out a deep moan, swallowing roughly instead. Her hand found the back of his neck and she pulled him closer to her.
“Don’t talk to other guys like that,” Thomas’s voice was raspy as his lips pressed kisses against her skin.
Framing his face with her hands, Y/n brought him up to look her in the eye, an eyebrow raised. Realizing his mistake, Thomas quickly rephrased. “Wait, no. I’m aware I can’t tell you what to do. I just... please don’t talk to anyone else like that. Not in front of me.”
“I don’t want to talk to anyone but you. You’re an idiot,” she smiled, “now kiss me.”
Thomas didn’t need to be asked twice. He held Y/n’s face in one hand, the other hand resting on her lower back. Thomas pressed his lips against her’s like her kiss was the oxygen he needed to breathe. His knee slid between her thighs, and she grinded against his leg on instinct. He groaned into the kiss, and the next thing Y/n knew, he had pulled away from her completely.
“We need to get out of here,” Thomas panted.
Y/n nodded. “Your place?”
“My place,” he agreed.
They exited the speakeasy in record time, and the cool air outside seemed to momentarily sober them up. Thomas was sure the Uber driver didn’t appreciate how handsy they were being in the backseat, so he made sure he tipped generously.
When Thomas had closed his apartment door behind him, Y/n nearly jumped on him, your lips latching onto his. His hands slid up her legs, the electric blue dress she had been wearing began to bunch up around her waist. Thomas’s fingers slipped expertly into her panties, sliding them down her legs and to her ankles.
Thomas got down on his knees in front of her, tearing down a wall Y/n had tried so hard to keep up with every kiss he placed on the inside of her thighs. Y/n could feel her heart racing a hundred beats per minute in her chest as her head hit the the wall behind her. She reached a hand down to thread through Thomas’s hair, gently guiding him to where she needed him the most.
He took the hint, his tongue sliding against Y/n’s pussy lips, once, then twice. Thomas successfully elicited an unrestrained moan from your mouth. Enjoying the sound, his tongue darted into her folds once more, his fingers digging bruises into her hips.
Thomas brought her close to the edge, then in some kind of telepathic way, he pulled away just as she was about to reach her climax. He continued this pattern a few more times until she couldn’t take it anymore and tugged at his hair.
“Thomas, please,” his name sounded like a prayer on her lips. “I need you to stop teasing me. I want you. All of you.”
He nodded in understanding, standing up and pulling her into his bedroom. Thomas’s hands found the hem of Y/n’s dress in the dark and pulled it over her head. Y/n began undoing Thomas’s belt buckle while he unclasped her bra and flung the garment into some forgotten corner of the room. His hands traced her body, memorizing every curve and indent and Y/n tugged down his pants.
Thomas picked her up and threw her onto the bed. He tugged off his shirt before climbing onto the bed after her. Thomas pressed his lips to hers firmly, and Y/n willing returned the kiss. She ran her hand down his back, and Thomas’s hips bucked forward at the feeling. Y/n’s eyes widened slightly at the feeling of his large erection through his boxers.
“You have protection?” She asked with a hoarse voice.
“Yeah,” he murmured, climbing off of her to retrieve a condom from his nightstand.
Y/n heard the crinkling of foil, then a few moments later she felt the bed dip under his weight and he was once more above her. He lined himself up at her entrance then paused, thumbing tracing the outline of her lips and eyes staring into her’s in a moment of raw intimacy.
“You’re sure about this?” He said softly. “I’ll stop right now if you say the word.”
Y/n admired the way he searched her features for any trace of hesitance or doubt. She shook her head. “Don’t stop. Please, I need you--”
She was cut off with her own moan when he pushed his length inside her. Y/n gasped as she struggled to accommodate his large size. Her nails dug into his blood, and she wouldn’t have been surprised if she drew blood.
“Oh, angel, you feel so good around me,” Thomas panted as he pumped in and out of her.
Y/n didn’t even try to restrain her scream of his name when he began to pick up his pace, gaining speed and working through her body skillfully. His neighbors would not be happy with Y/n tomorrow, but she couldn’t care what they thought. She was in bliss.
“Thomas... oh god, Thomas...” Y/n struggled getting any coherent words out as she neared her climax, and Thomas wasn’t having any more luck.
Thomas kept up at his rapid pace, and a few minutes later he was riding her through her orgasm. Y/n screamed out his name once more, and that seemed to push Thomas over the edge as he reached his climax as well.
Y/n and Thomas stood still for a moment, panting. Finally, Thomas pulled out and got up long enough to throw the used condom in the trash before collapsing down at Y/n’s side where he belonged.
“You’re perfect, angel. You’re perfect.”
