What are the BatFamily’s favorite Christmas movies?
Let me preface this by saying I do not deeply know all the Batfamily members. So I will not be including everyone. I hope that is OK.
Bruce: It depends on the timeframe. I truly believe broody, I work alone timeline; Bruce does not watch Christmas movies. He is in his emo phase and wants no joy. However, when he finally gets therapy he probably is a classic Christmas movie fan. I could see him enjoying the Rankin-Bass movies.
Cass: This might seem stereotypical, but I think Cass’ favorite holiday movie is The Nutcracker. I don’t believe it is any Hollywood-produced ones though. I believe she has a recorded version of a live performance.
Tim: I see Tim as a feral gremlin. Therefore I see his favorite holiday movie being Home Alone. He has wanted to out some of the traps. He won’t because it will make Bruce frown, but he has thought it out thoroughly.
Barbara: Barbara strikes me as someone who likes easygoing Christmas movies. It is a time for her to relax and decompress. So her favorite is probably Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas, it is mostly feel-good. Plus she likes the music.
Harley: I feel like Harley likes the weird holiday specials. Therefore, I could see her favorite being Grandma Got Run Over by A Reindeer. She loved the original song and the movie is just batshit crazy enough to make her laugh.
Jason: Jason is a classics nerd so his favorite is almost certainly A Christmas Carol. He says it is the Disney one because it is so close to the book. However, it is actually A Muppet’s Christmas Carol. He likes how the songs add to the story. Plus, it makes him laugh.
Dick: I think Dick’s favorite Christmas movie is Miracle on 34th Street. He thinks it is so heartwarming. Plus the vibe seems to fit it. It also makes him cry every time.
Selina: I’ll be honest I’m not really sure about Selina. Part of me thinks she isn’t particular about holiday movies. However, I do think she would love the option for a movie night with her “kittens”
Alfred: Alfred is a classics person. He likes It’s a Wonderful Life. It is cozy in his opinion. He has it memorized by this point.
Duke: Duke is more sassy than people give him credit for. He is also more chaotic. Therefore, I think he would enjoy comedy holiday movies. His favorite is probably National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation or A Christmas Story.
Damian: Damian doesn’t much care for holiday movies at first. He finds them quite silly. However, there is one he watches religiously and that is Prancer. Dick was the one who suggested it because he knows Damian loves animals. Damian said it was ok, but Dick saw how close he watched it.
Kate: OK I feel like Kate is a spooky chick at heart. Therefore, I fully believe her favorite Christmas movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas. It is just the right amount of edge and holiday joy.
Steph: Steph is another one who strikes me as kinda feral. I want to say she likes Home Alone too. However, I could also see her loving Home Alone 2: Lost in New York more. Only for the fact that it gives her and Tim something to debate about.

A Crime Alley Carol
by Carabesh Jason Todd was dead: to begin with. There is no doubt whatsoever about that. Bruce Wayne had signed the burial register, and no amount of clawing his way out of a grave with bloody fingers, and mud-covered skin and clothes will change that. Batfamily: A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol in Gotham City where….
Bruce = Scrooge, hates Christmas bc he never got to celebrate it like everyone else as a kid and works through it as the president of a prestigious corporation and as Batman
Lucius = Bob Cratchitt, he is Bruce’s #1 business manager and assistant but struggles with his low wage bc he wants the best for his family, especially for his youngest disabled daughter Tiffany (she = tiny tim!!!)
Kate = Fred, Bruce’s cousin who always invites him to dinner for the holidays despite always being rejected but tries bc Bruce is the only blood family she has left
Alfred = Jacob Marley, who took care of Bruce as a child, died suddenly when Bruce first started the corporation, and doesn’t want to see him spend the rest of his life lonely and miserable and warns him of this
Dick = Christmas Past, he takes Bruce to see the happiness he used to have with his parents and later Alfred during the holidays, as well as Bruce’s business mentor, Ra’s, and Bruce’s first gf and Ra’s daughter, Talia
Jason = Christmas Present, he shows Bruce how people celebrate in their modern time (including Kate) and Lucius’s family being all loving and happy despite not having much
Tim and Dami = Christmas Future, they showed Bruce that if he keeps up with his current attitude he’ll die sad and lonely, not even Kate or Lucius would miss him and Bruce realizes that’s not what he wants
The following Christmas day Bruce goes to Kate’s party and send the Foxes a large gift and promises Lucius a raise, but he feels like that won’t make up for his shitty behavior from the past years
But as he’s going home he runs into a surprise: a ragtag group of 4 street orphans who look very very familiar, all brothers, with nowhere to go and nobody to celebrate with them
So Bruce decides to take them home and give them the life he wished for himself

Emily, any thoughts on Dick released stuff today?
Yeah, just one:
Tumblr media
Actually, here's a few more scatterbrained thoughts:
The Bats of Christmas Past had me chanting "I am sick of the batfamily, I am sick of the batfamily, I am sick of the batfamily" for a little while so that's fun 🙃.
Honestly, I fucking loved it when Dick thought, The house doesn't smell like Alfred's cooking. For a moment, it really throws me.
That was hands down the best part of the story for me. The acknowledgment that Alfred isn't there. The acknowledgment that Christmas feels different because Alfred isn't there. The food Dick's used to smelling when he walks into the house isn't there, and it completely derails him for a second.
That grief, that pain, that nostalgia... it's all there. I love the fact that it's hard for Dick to want to get together with his family because of that. The holidays can be really hard to get through when you're missing the people you used to celebrate with, and that is obviously the case for Dick in this story.
I also got emotional over the last lines when Dick thought, So we make new traditions. Someday, when I see him again, I'll tell him all about them.
😭 Like, please. He's gonna have so much to tell Alfie when they meet again 😭🥺.
Whew. Okay. So anyway.
I wasn't all that happy with the ghost Babs part (or really any of the Babs parts but especially the ghost part).
The whole point of that was basically for her to be like, "You ruined Christmas for Bruce, Alfred, Jason, and yourself because you didn't come out of your room."
And Dick was like, "Omg it's all my fault because I didn't come out of my room."
Oh my godddd. Get fucking bent. Especially if this is supposed to take place during the 18 months that Dick and Bruce weren't in contact with each other. And if it happened after the events of Batman #416 then I don't buy the idea that Dick would be lying around in bed waiting for Bruce to call him. Would it have made sense for Dick to be really sad during the first Christmas he spent away from Bruce and Alfred and for him to be waiting around expecting a phone call from them? Yeah, absolutely. Because Bruce pushed him away during that time and never reached out to him. Dick had to reach out to Bruce 18 months after Bruce wouldn't be partners with him anymore, remember?
But it says in this issue that Bruce called Dick a few days earlier and that things were fine between them, so they've clearly been on decent enough terms in this story. And if they're on decent terms then why doesn't Dick just call Bruce and Alfred instead of waiting for them to call him? If things were fine between them a few days ago then why is Dick acting like Bruce and Alfred don't care about him?
I think the writer just kinda fucked up the timeline of events during that time. So then Dick gets all the blame for fucking up a past Christmas for some damn reason.
And he would have gotten all the blame for ruining this year's Christmas for everyone else, and he gets blamed for ruining every future Christmas because ghost Cass shows him that he dies on Christmas.
It's just like... what the fuck. If Dick doesn't want to go to the party, he shouldn't have to go to the party. And his absence shouldn't be the reason he gets blamed for ruining the Christmas party.
So. Yeah. That was basically my thoughts on that story. As for A Carol of Bats... well. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. So. Pass.
I liked the first part of Robin & Batman #2. Even if it was way out of line, I like that the headmaster asked, "I wonder, if Mr. Wayne is so busy, why he chose to take Richard in as his ward?"
Because if you were the headmaster or any other adult, you probably would feel bad for Dick if you saw his butler picking him up every day, and if the butler was always coming in for parent-teacher conferences and things like that. You'd be like, "Where the hell is that Wayne guy? He can't even make time for his kid?"
I also like that Alfred got Dick a new journal and that he specifically told Dick that what Bruce did was wrong. It was a good way for Alfred to validate Dick's feelings over Bruce invading his privacy.
Moving on to Dick's introduction of the Justice League and the other members of the fab five. I'm gonna be honest... I didn't like it. I didn't like how Dick was treated like some random new sidekick. And I understand that it has to be like that in this story because Dick is only just now getting to be Robin, so he doesn't have his longstanding reputation of being the first sidekick yet (which is a problem). There is no Robin legacy at this point, and that sucks. No one has the respect for him that they should.
Roy is dismissive of Dick and makes fun of his name. Garth looks like he couldn't care less to be meeting Dick. Wally and Donna are clearly the most inviting but even they don't seem super interested in who Dick is. And I hate that. It's just not the vibe I would've hoped for upon their first meeting.
I also hate that Bruce turned what was supposed to be a birthday gift into a mission (I mean, not really surprised because it is Bruce we're talking about, but c'mon). At least Alfred's gobsmacked reaction upon finding out that information was hilarious.
Tumblr media
Same, Alfie. Same.
Honestly, the only thing this comic is proving to me is that Alfred is clearly the better parental figure. He's trying to raise Dick to be a happy and healthy child and then there's Bruce coming in hot and fumbling the ball into a flaming wormhole.

Daminette December Day 3: Decorating
—————————————————————————-
Ah, holiday season. A time for family and cheer, with sleigh bells ringing, snow falling, hot chocolate by the fire place, Christmas movies on the tv, and Marinette’s favorite: decorations. The colorful lights that hung from every store, coffee shop, and restaurant.
Gotham City, New York. Had been home to Marinette since she graduated Lyceè and was proud to say that she loved it. She had a loving boyfriend, a successful career as a designer for her Fashion house “Miss Fortune,” friends that she adores, and family that came with. Yes, Gotham was good to her. And when Christmas rolled around Marinette made sure she was good to Goatham.
The city suffered year round, but even the Joker knew that Christmas was a time that crime would stop. Marinette helped decorate the Wayne manor, GCPD, and city hall. The sunshine of Gotham had caused crime rates to plummet during the holidays. She was an angel, but Kwami-forbid you piss her off. Like an avenging angel, Marinette would hunt you down and raise hell for her favorite holiday (dispite her problem with Santa).
There she was, in the Wayne manor, decorating the Christmas tree with red and gold ornaments. It was covered in translucent gold ribbons, glass hearts, candy canes, and snowflakes. A large star topped the tree and looked elegant. The batboys helped occasionally, but had to sit out when Jason and Damian started to argue about who was going to help Marinette reach the higher points of the tree.
(A/N: this is what my tree looks like, it was the inspiration for the Wayne tree:)
Tumblr media
The groundsmen working dilengently to decorate the exterior of the manor. The theme for this year was wintery enchanted forest. Bruce never really cared much for the huss and fuss that came with decorating for the holidays. That all changed when Marinette came in guns-blazing demanding that the dreary manor have a make over for the jovial time of year, “Where’s all the decorations?”
“We don’t really do that here,” Dick replied monotonically.
“What do you mean you don’t do that here?”
“Bruce doesn’t like to waste time by doing the whole ribbons, icicles, and bells thing. You only have it up for like half a month,” Tim said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Yeah,” Marinette began, “that’s changing right now.”
“Angel, all of us are busy. We can’t take time out to do all of this,” Damian replied.
It was no use though, once Marinette had her mind set on something there was no stopping her. She began small. Her and Alfred just placing some garland around the fireplaces. That gradually added a small personal Christmas tree in the kitchen. Within the same week the whole entrance had become Santa’s workshop. Bruce tried oh so hard to stop her, but even the Bat knew that when you’re up against Lady Luck, herself, that’s a war not even he could win.
After the struggle against her war path failing, it played out with Marinette’s victory. The dark manor had become a mirthful castle throughout the month of December. Alfred was reminded of the times when Martha Wayne had decked their halls with holly and ferns. When Thomas used to watch his wife sing carols around the house as she worked to make the Wayne household the envy of Gotham.
After their deaths, a light that once shone bright was dimmed sevearly. It broke Gotham’s heart. However, when Marinette Dupain-Cheng (soon to add Wayne) came to spruce up the manor, that light returned with new found purpose. Alfred was reminded of Martha whenever Marinette demanded the change in aesthetic for the season of giving.
And Marinette gave a lot, almost too much. She gave them love, security, presents, and a new meaning of the word home. The French-Asian woman made sure that no one in the Wayne house would feel alone, and suddenly the manor didn’t seem so cold during Gotham’s below freezing temperatures.
As Marinette placed the last decoration in the entrance of the house, the mistletoe, Damian game from behind to give her his whole heart again. They felt complacent in their domestic actions and could not wait to begin decorating the Christmas cookies that came with the hot chocolate.
Yes, the manor was dark and lonely. But when Marinette put her mind to it, everything seemed more like a home rather than a house. Her warmth melted Damian’s “Ice prince” shell, renewed Jason’s faith in his family, gave Dick the Christmas he always wanted, allowed for Tim’s world to slow down, restored Bruce’s love for the holidays, and reminded Alfred of his happiest days working for the Wayne’s. The Christmases that came and passed with Marinette were some of the batfamily’s favorite.
——————————————————————————
A/N: That’s day three down! Woooo I’m on a roll! That being said this ones a little shorter because I wasn’t having the best day. However, would that stop me from at the very least trying? Never!!! I hope you guys liked it!!!
