No one is home. Ginny is asleep. The neighborhood dogs are not barking. The AC is not on. The fridge is not being noisy. My laptop fan is chill. I am as hydrated as it is possible for me to be. Time stretches out in front of me, somewhat infinite, no interruptions in sight.

19. What does my editing process typically look like?

I've recently started punch & roll recording sometimes, so my editing is a lot less of deleting re-takes for those which is nice. Normally, though, I'd do a listen through to delete re-takes / repeat phrases / background noise, and do some minor edits at the same time. Then I'd listen thru again and get anything I didn't catch the first time. And, of course, noise reduction / some kind of basic leveling first usually. Sometimes I use auphonic, but usually only if I record with my good mic.

Bioware’s Plotholes are AWFUL

So in case anyone’s wondering, I failed NaNo this year. Bad. Like, I only wrote 18,000 words. And they were all terrible words and a bunch of them don’t even count bc it was dialogue from Nexus: Uprising.

So I read Uprising bc it was relevant to the prologue of this NaNo.

And I STILL cannot stop thinking about this motherfucking plothole that's so big you can fly the Tempest through it.

Here's a list of some of the krogan clan names I came across on Elaaden: Jorgal, Ganar, Jair, Korten, Kariss, Ravanor, Gulnaz, Kohrr, Kormer, Wik, Chaman, Urdnot.

It makes no sense for ANY of these clan members to be here. I don't know how or why they are here. Bc literally. LITERALLY. The only krogan who are woken up in the first wave are the Nakmor clan. The only krogan who put down the uprising are the Nakmor clan. The only krogan who join the exodus at the same time as the exiles are the Nakmor clan.

About 300-500 krogan are initially woken up (the numbers are a little nebulous, as you'll see below -- half of the station is Kesh's krogan, but the number of crew members jumps from 600 to 1000 -- some renegade assholes did wake up some non-critical personnel, but not like, 200 people worth??). These krogan are Nakmor Kesh's workers, all members of her clan. The engineers and construction crew who built the Nexus and are in charge of the manual labor and repair of the station. The mutiny happens. Tann and Addison go behind Sloane's back and wake up Morda. She demands that the rest of the clan be woken up so that she can have her warriors by her side. Spender's a slimy sleazeball who makes a promise he can't keep, Morda gets pissed, and the Nakmor clan decide to leave and start a new life for themselves out in this deadly galaxy.

So here are the facts and their locations in my ebook:

[...] Ranks of krogan filing into the small armada of shuttles being provided them, Nakmor Morda at the head of the group, arms folded in defiance and resolve, overseeing the exodus." "Kesh was not idealistic. She'd worked to the bone for this station, this Initiative, and she would die for it if she had to. Or, as it turned out, leave her clan for the betterment of it. [...her work] was to rebuild. Preparing the Nexus, she thought as she turned away from the last glimmers of her only people, for the eventuality of peace." (location 6272)

Like there's literally no other way to read it. There were no other clans involved in putting down the uprising -- it's the Nakmor who strode into the bloody field, it's the Nakmor who died in battle (far, far less than the number of exiles tho, o o p s), it's the Nakmor who say they'll be victorious with or without the Nexus. There's at least 500 of them (if you lowball and say there's 300 workers and that Morda, her warriors, and the rest of the clan are only 200 strong) but it's probably closer to like. 600-1000 Nakmor imo, I have a feeling that the warriors and the rest of the clan aren't gonna be smaller than the subsection that worked in construction. That's so many!!! So many Nakmors!!! We didn't need to see other krogan clan members in the game, everyone could have been a Nakmor and it'd make perfect narrative sense!!!

Bc seriously, where the FUCK did the other clans come from. Who woke them up. When did they leave the Nexus. Like, they're leaving the next day, as far as I can tell. The life support team, the people who KNEW how to operate the stasis pods just mutinied, the head of life support is fucking dead, Kesh is the only person left who knows how to do this stuff. One person physically cannot open that many stasis pods in that short a timeframe. Also, there's already too many mouths to feed, that's why the mutiny happened in the first place. And Morda doesn't want any more krogan clans woken up!!! She “not all krogan”s Kaje bc she doesn't want her clan lumped in w the rest of the krogan. ("Better to take [the Nexus] over," Kaje added, "and claim it for all krogan." "My krogan," Morda corrected.) And you know they didn't just wake up all the different krogan and were like "yo I know you just woke up but hey everything sucks and we're leaving our new home, you're not even in our clan and you weren't even betrayed, but come with us into the deadly wilderness even tho you have no idea what the fuck is going on" like there is absolutely zero justification for that, that's not a theory that even begins to hold water.

OH and the krogan names that I saw on Elaaden? Kormer Ryn posted in the “New Fathers” group on the terminals. So. It’s not like it’s a few isolated clan members amongst a bunch of Nakmor. There’s a ton of other clans in the game and those other clans have children, and it makes NO sense with the narrative established in Uprising. Why the FUCK would the Nakmor clan wake up members of other clans AND those clan members’ children???? They wouldn’t.

How do you fuck up your lore this badly, Bioware.

IZ BEČA U SARAJEVO Dok traje egzodus iz BiH, oni se vraćaju u domovinu: Šta ovi mladi i uspješni ljudi rade drugačije?

Odlazak mladih iz BiH poprimio je proteklih godina zabrinjavajuće razmjere. Ipak, postoje mladi Bosanci i Hercegovci koji pored sigurnog života u dijaspori nisu odustali od svoje domovine.

„Kada mi se pružila prilika da neko vrijeme provedem u svome rodnom gradu i steknem radno iskustvo, odlučila sam iskoristiti tu šansu“, govori za Deutsche Welle Amra Dučić. Ova 29-godišnja Sarajka početkom rata u BiH došla je kao izbjeglica u austrijski Linz. Dučić je u Austriji pozitivan primjer integrirane migrantice: nakon završenoga studija publicistike i komunikologije na Univerzitetu u Beču radila je u austrijskim medijima, prije nego je postala dio tima za komunikacije u austrijskome Saveznom ministarstvu za integracije na čijem je čelu ministar Sebastian Kurz. Ipak, ova mlada Sarajka nedavno je odlučila zamijeniti karijeru u austrijskom Ministarstvu za integracije karijerom u Sarajevu. Danas je voditeljica marketinga u novoosnovanome Austrijskom institutu u glavnome gradu Bosne i Hercegovine: instituciji koja nudi kurseve njemačkoga jezika i tako radi na zbližavanju dvije zemlje.

  Amra Dučić danas je jedna od rijetkih mladih osoba porijeklom iz Bosne i Hercegovine koje žive u zapadnim zemljama, a odlučuju se vratiti u zemlju porijekla. Trend je potpuno suprotan: samo u prošloj godini Bosnu i Hercegovinu je prema službenim podacima Unije za održivi povratak i integracije u BiH napustilo 16.653 ljudi. Strahuje se da je neslužbena cifra mnogo veća. Iz BiH odlaze ne samo pojedinci, već i cijele porodice. Glavni razlog je slaba razvijenost privrede, korupcija, odsutnost investicija i visoka stopa nezaposlenosti mladih. Podaci iz prošle godine govore da je stopa nezaposlenosti kod mladih u BiH iznosila 62,4%, a ova balkanska zemlja je trenutno peta u svijetu po odljevu mozgova.

Ne zaboravljaju svoju domovinu Bosnu i Hercegovinu

I dok je većini mladih između Drine, Une, Save i Neretve san da napuste zemlju rođenja kako bi na Zapadu pronašli posao i izgradili egzistenciju, neki u njoj stvaraju poslovne šanse i nižu uspjehe. Jedan od njih je i 28-godišnji Sead Ahmetović. Iz rodnoga Odžaka otišao je kao trogodišnjak u austrijski Steyr gdje su mu otprije radili roditelji. Ahmetović je danas primjer uspješnoga mladog biznismena migrantskoga porijekla u Austriji. Suvlasnik je bečke firme VIENNA DIGITAL specijalizirane za razvoj IT-aplikacija koja od svoga osnivanja 2013. godine bilježi konstantan rast i razvoj i trenutno ima 27 zaposlenih. I pored uspjeha u Austriji Ahmetović nije zaboravio Bosnu i Hercegovinu. „Oduvijek mi je bila želja da posao razvijem i u zemlji u kojoj sam rođen i koju i dalje smatram svojom domovinom”, kaže ovaj mladi poduzetnik u razgovoru za Deutsche Welle u svome prostranom uredu u centru Beča. Naime, još kao učenik i student svaki slobodan trenutak ovaj IT-stručnjak provodio je u rodnome Odžaku.

  Želja da otvori biznis u BiH ostvarila mu se 2014. godine. „Gotovo podsvjesno sam tražio mogućnost da što više vremena provodim u Bosni i Hercegovini“, kroz smiješak nam kaže ovaj mladi poduzetnik. Podružnica njegove firme u Sarajevu danas broji deset zaposlenih. Ovdje se razvijaju web i mobilne aplikacije i IT-rješenja za klijente u Austriji i Njemačkoj. Otvaranje firme u BiH za Ahmetovića nije bila jednostavna stvar: „Najveći problem su birokratske prepreke. Dok se u zapadnim državama gleda da poduzetnik ima što manje administrativnih obaveza, u BiH zbog zastarjelih zakona i zbog loše digitalizacije imate mnogo sporije procedure u poslovanju i veoma mnogo birokratije koja u suštini nije potrebna. To iziskuje i više vremena, ali i više novca“, kritizira Ahmetović uvjete rada poduzetnika u BiH.

Ipak, nakon skoro tri godine poslovanja u Bosni i Hercegovini ne kaje se što je dio svoga poslovanja iz Austrije prenio u Sarajevo. „U oblasti programiranja Bosna i Hercegovina ima jako dobre mlade stručnjake čija se profesionalnost može bez problema mjeriti s onom u zapadnoevropskim zemljama. Ova grana privrede je u stalnome usponu i možda je jedna od rijetkih koje su i u BiH profitabilne“, ističe ovaj 28-godišnjak koji će 11. i 12. maja u Beču ugostiti najveću evropsku konferenciju developera i programera s 3.500 učesnika i nekoliko stotina renomiranih internacionalnih kompanija. Koliki je Ahmetovićev uspjeh u austrijskome IT-svijetu govori i činjenica da će konferenciju WeAreDevelopers otvoriti austrijski kancelar Christian Kern i državni sekretar za privredu i inovacije Harald Mahrer.

„Prestati čekati da drugi rješavaju vaše probleme”

No, Ahmetovićev uspjeh u staroj i novoj domovini kap je u moru vode problema besperspektivnosti i nezaposlenosti s kojom se susreću mladi Bosanci i Hercegovci. Za Amru Dučić odlazak mladih iz Bosne i Hercegovine znači i gubitak nade u bolju budućnost. No, istovremeno napominje da ni situacija u inostranstvu nije ružičasta: „U mnogim zemljama Zapada situacija je trenutno takva da bez maksimalnog zalaganja i truda nema ni uspjeha“, ističe Dučić i dodaje da se mladima u BiH ne pruža dovoljno šanse da pokažu ono što znaju.

Sličnoga mišljenja je i Sead Ahmetović: „Kada im kažem da sam pokrenuo firmu u BiH, prva reakcija mnogih sunarodnjaka je podsmijeh i čuđenje. A moj pristup je potpuno drugačiji. Za uspjeh svuda, pa i u BiH, potrebno je biti uporan i prestati čekati da drugi rješavaju vaše probleme“, poručuje ovaj uspješni mladi čovjek. Prema Ahmetoviću, u BiH trenutno mogu uspjeti mladi ljudi koji razmišljaju nekonvencionalno. Dakle, oni koji ne čekaju da će im svršeno formalno obrazovanje donijeti siguran posao. Krivicu za ovakav način razmišljanja mladih donekle vidi i u odgoju: „Naši roditelji uporno nas nastoje uvjeriti da moramo završiti fakultet jer će nas jedino akademsko obrazovanje spasiti od loših poslova. Time for my 2023 stats round up.

First, let's look at the number of hours/minutes per month, shall we?

All of that account for 59 hours & 11 minutes of podfic. Now, comparing to last year, when I had just shy of 31 hours, that looks pretty good. Remember, last year I started in August so I almost doubled it.

We do notice a dip in March & April, which tend to be busy months in the education world. The spike in May is due to Voiceteam. June-August are a bit odd - you'd think a teacher on break would have more time to create. But I had some life stuff hit and it really destroyed my brain.

So, here's my first 2024 Resolution:

Now, moving on to the breakdowns and fun stuff, shall we?

Here are my top 5 fandoms, authors, ratings, and genres! I also have them in bar chart form and pie chart form, which I'll put below the cut. You'll see a slight difference in the author category -- I didn't include myself or Flowerparrish and my podcast in that as those weren't authors.

Of course, what is podficcing without making covers you love? Here are my favorite covers I made for my own podfics! I have a migraine so please excuse the fact that the images don't line up, vision is blurry:

Now, let's move on to my stats image from above. I used the same format as last year but since I made over 100 more podfic than last year, each microphone now equals five podfics.

As you can see, I participated in a lot of events! I believe I made the most audio for Voiceteam 2022 (as evidenced by my hours/month graph). This was my first year doing Voiceteam and I had a blast. I also got to do Podtogether & Summer Swap for the first time. It was my 2nd year doing ITPE. And then so much more.

My top kudosed collaborative project was "A Fair Compromise" with @wanderingjedihistorian for 212th Appreciation week. My top kudosed solo project was "A Game of Guess Who With Big Blue" by TheWitchBoy. The longest podfic I made was also with @wanderingjedihistorian and was my podfic of our Codywan Big Bang project! My shortest was a Locked Tomb podfic at 57 seconds called Realization.

My first podfic of 2023 was Hot Cocoa by Melime, a "The Batman" podfic. In the middle was Dissipate by SunsetsOverLA for Waxer*Boil month. And the last posted thing was for @fandomtrumpshate, for my top bidder - an Obi-Wan/Jango soulmates AU.

Now, on to 2024! My resolutions are:

To continue working on current WIPs I'm bringing into 2024 - some of which I've already tied up only 5 days into the year

To podfic even when my brain is being a gremlin, because podfic makes me happy and I should be able to focus on that!

To be brave enough to post the first "Soft Wars" podfic and finally tackle the series (kind of the same as resolution #1)

Not to sign up for Big Bangs -- I love them dearly but they actually caused a lot of my burnout this year and I didn't love that. As much as I love collabs, I think I'll stick to Podtogether, multivoices with friends, and gift exchanges this year!

Close the gaps -- aka, as much as I love Clone Wars, I want to focus on all things I love, instead of overbearingly focusing in on one.

Going into 2024, I am going to start tracking what music I use in my podfics, because I was curious about it / @flowerparrish inspired me. I also found a way to track overall Star Wars and then Star Wars broken down into sub fandoms - that should neaten up my "top 5" category a bit.
