Freij
Freije Known for their fringed ears, thick dark hair, and natural resistance the frigid temperatures of the north. Freije seals take on a white or pale-blue hue, contrasting against their dark skin. Typically asymmetrical and unique to each individual, they have been widely (and fittingly) remarked as resembling snowflakes and frost, consisting of radial pattern of crystal-like markings.
Matriar The military and naval prowess of Freij is recognized across Elothia, and its Matriar reflects that. As Leader and Admiral, She dons the military vestments of the region, although ornamented and embroidered to indicated Her regal station. She also carries on Her person, just as the officers under Her, a dagger and sabre. Typically these would be highly decorated commissioned works, much like Her chokha and kalpak. However the current Matriar has forgone the tradition, preferring to don and wield the standard arms of her men. As Impero recently saw a Patris leave the throne, Freij is likely to see one on theirs in the coming centuries as the current Matriar has only one son and seemingly no interest in bearing another child.
Czars State officials and Generals to Her Majesty. Much like the Matriar, Czars are outfitted in military garb and keep a dagger and sabre on their person. While still decorated to denote them as officers of import, it is not to the level of the Matriar.
Citizens Despite the high tolerance to the northern climate that they have become known for, Freije are born incredibly susceptible to the cold. Newborns are heavily swaddled in thick furs and kept indoors for the most of their first year. Even when younglings are finally able to be brought outdoors, they do so thoroughly bundled up, almost comically, in several layers of thick clothing and furs.
It's not until adolescense that the Freije's cold tolerance truly begin to build up. They begin to strip away their heavy coats, scarves and furs, and many, many, layers as the years proceed, and by their first century the typical Freije can brush off the low temperatures with far lighter apparel. To the outsider experiencing the bite of Freij's Spring chill for the first time, they may even look underdressed.
In opposition to this are the region's wealthier merchants, barons, and city officials. Setting themselves up at higher altitudes, far above the crowded docks and fish markets, even their natural resistance isn't quite enough to keep out the colder mountain winds. As a result, upper class Draken remain relatively bundled up well after maturing - a fact that's earned the ridicule of many common folk, thinking it make them look childish.

ROUND 2: POLL #21
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ROUND 2 POLLS [HERE]
PROPAGANDA BELOW
Timothy "Tim" Drake/Bernard Dowd:
Propaganda by @dadthinksdoctorwhoisacrimeseries [HERE]
Tim and Bernard getting together is historical, marking a change in the direction of comics. For a long time, DC has been playing it safe, usually making background and minor characters queer, or introducing characters with their queerness as a plot point. Tim is not only a major character, but one of the most popular in the lineup, and was generally treated as VERY straight for most of his history. So putting him in a relationship with another man was a loud way of pushing comics in a more progressive direction like they were earlier in their existence. Not only that, but Bernard was NOT a love interest invented for this role, but an established character from earlier in Tim's story, one who was not only conceived of as straight, but behaved aggressively sexually towards women and only women. By stating that he had a crush on Tim at the time, it reframes what was a pretty common type of joke in the era into terms that are easier to understand and sympathize with as a queer person, woman, or any other comics reader that isn't thought of as the default. It gives the story a lot more depth, and opens possibilities of complex queer readings of earlier works through this lens.

Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan:
You’ve got the world's most disaster bisexual man who cannot sit properly to save his life and you've got an omnipotent professor guy who is obsessed with him and they somehow make time to solve mysteries between longingly staring at each other
The love that crosses time, the kind of love where their souls are drawn to each other no matter what form they take. Shen Wei has loved Zhao Yunlan for 10000 years. He waited for him to be reborn for TEN THOUSAND years! [SPOILERS] and yet after all that, they still didn't get their happy ending in this life. But they'll get another chance, they'll try again, and they will end up loving each other in every lifetime.

Okay, so people that had read the YJ98 comics, specifically the Christmas addition where Young Justice killed Santa clause, I propose to you this--
You know how in Rise of the Guardians people forget Santa exists? Well, due to dimensional shenanigans, let's say the team of Young Justice ends up in the Rise of the Guardians Universe.
On the big globe it's going to show that there are some last believers in Santa. And of course the Guardians are going to go and protect these poor defenseless children--
Basically, I want Young Justice to meet Saint Nick after they killed the guy in their home dimension. How do you explain yourself as a teenager that probably shouldn't believe in Santa anymore believes in Santa? Just thought it would be funny.

Tim’s self-isolation in the beginning of Red Robin is actually so funny to me because it hardly works.
Tim @ most of his friends and family: nobody contact me. leave me alone. I’m busy. don’t try to stop me.
Tim @ Cass: hey, wanna stay in contact? :)
Tim when Chris Kent asks him for help: I’m actually not Robin anymore so saving people is not my job. Oh her life is in danger? …okay fine but then I’m going back to my thing.
Tim when Kon finds him: I’m busy…Oh you need help? okay…let’s have an accidental heartfelt talk and then we can help each other with our latest emotional crises.
Tim when Dick calls him: don’t call me…ohhh, that seems serious. fine I’ll come to Gotham but then I’m going right back to what I was doing. *finishes up what he was doing* okay I’m back, let’s team up.
Tim when someone he’s never met ends up as the League’s semi-hostage with him: Hey when we’re done do you wanna travel for business together & maybe go on a date?

DC Bat comics have a lot of classism issues (among other problems) but thanks to the weird-ass way that wealth scales, any analysis that assumes Tim’s original family is closer to the Waynes than they are to the Browns is going to be full of holes. Or if you assume Stephanie’s family is closer to the Todds than to the Drakes.
Like, the Drakes when Jack still has the company are definitely in a different tax bracket than Crystal Brown the nurse & Arthur Brown the ex gameshow host turned costumed villain, but the Drakes & Browns are still closer to each other than they are to the old money Bruce Wayne whose company bankrolls the Justice League.
Plus the time when DI went under and the Drakes were relying on Dana’s income from working as a physical therapist moved them to probably about the same bracket until Jack picked up a job too.
Acting like Stephanie Brown, who grows up in the suburbs in a house her mom owns outright, can easily put herself up in a hotel room for a week or two when fighting with her mom, only needs a job in college to avoid student loans instead of to supplement them... is close to pre-adoption Jason?
Even pre-his-parents-dying Jason?
No.
Tim & Steph have enough of a gap to have different experiences and sometimes talk past each other, but they’re still both much closer to each other than either of them is to the Waynes or the Todds.
Tim & Steph are both economically well off kids with abusive dads who decide to sneak out and fight crime. Stephanie’s mom is uninvolved in her life because of a prescription pill addiction (though she works past that to become more involved), while Tim’s mom is straight up dead, and the stepmom he gets later is nice but takes a hands-off approach to parenting (and then dies too).
This makes sense with Stephanie’s role in earlier comics being a foil to Tim (though she grows into a more independent character over time). They need enough similarities in circumstance that their different philosophies and crime fighting styles come down to personal choice, and they can argue with each other without mutually devolving into “You just don’t understand!”
TL;DR: economics and social class are fucking weird, Tim & Steph are foils, exaggerating the differences in their backgrounds messes up your analysis.
Bonus: You don’t need to make Steph even more of an underdog to appreciate her character.

*Brucie voice*: I'm batman
Tim: can I still be Tim?
Dick: shhh let Batman speak!
(or something)
And then batman and robin (J+Dami) break in to save them.

Her Loss
A commentary on Drake and 21 Savage’s new album and how Drake went from being a hopeless romantic to just a hopeless loser.
Tumblr media
This Friday Drake and 21 Savage released their collaborative album Her Loss which features 16 songs, 4 of them solely by Drake making it feel less like a collaboration and more like a Drake album with 21 Savage features. This project differs from Drake’s previous release of this year, Honestly, Nevermind in so far that it takes less inspiration from house and returns to the sound we usually correlate to Drake and 21 Savage as artists. This is completely and totally a rap-album. In this album Drake refers to multiple of his contemporaries, some by name such as the artist Bad Bunny, but also through words like bitch such as for Megan Thee Stallion. Drake has the following to say about Tina Snow on his song Circo Loco
This bitch lie about getting shots, but she still a stallion
This is in reference to Megan Thee Stallion getting shot in the foot, alledgedly by Tory Lanez who is awaiting trail for the 28th of this month.
And without knowing the verdict of the trial, this opens up to the question: why is Drake and so many men ready to call Megan a liar? As more attention have been brought onto assault, typically sexual assault, caused by men victimizing women in the last decade or so, we’ve also been audience to women being discredited, treated as untrustworthy, and deceitful. This view of women is deeprooted in our society and what Drake exemplifies is a systemic disbelief in women. Treating women as untrustworthy is a tool of our opression. It erases women’s voices, authority and power.
It’s the grease that makes the entire system go. Women’s erasure is an essential part of the deal powerful men have always made with the men they would have power over: let me have control over you, and in turn I will ensure you can control women.
Drake used to make music with Black women in mind, he made songs with the intend to empower and uplift women such as Fancy, Take Care and Madonna these are songs that celebrate independent women, who pursue their own education, have their own career goals and lifes. But in reality, this is not the woman Drake wants. After professing his love for Rihanna at a speech in 2016, he then made a song with her abuser Chris Brown, who mind you, almost killed her. Drake was also at the receiving end of a lot of controversy, when it was releaved that he was texting the then 14 year old Millie Bobby Brown about her love-life, a weird situation to be at more than twice her age. This is not the first time Drake has publically been romantically involved with a teenager as a video resurfaced of him kissing a 17 year old at one of his concerts, as well as him dating an 18 year old model, at the age of 31. Drake does not care about women, he cares about what they can do for him, but he does not see them as equal nor care for their independence as his previous songs would have you believe. In his actions he is clearly using the power imbalance between women and men, which is even more stark within the rap-community, to his advantage. By calling Megan a liar, he is aligning himself with a growing number of young men, incels and the likes, who band around a community of hatred for women. These are the followers of Andrew Tate, Jordan Peterson and Joe Rogan. These are men who truly and deeply believe that women are deceitful, and that it is more likely that they are lying about assault than that the assault actually happened. All of this, he does while also saying the following on the song Spin Bout U on the new album.
Damn, just turned on the news and seen that men who never got pussy in school
Are makin' laws about what women can do
I gotta protect ya
He is obviously trying to continue to pander to women, but the one we need protection from is him. By discrediting Megan Thee Stallion, who would have absolutely no reason to lie, Drake is upholding the patiarchy and why? It’s simple, it’s because he benefits from it.
Because the existing power structure is built on female subjugation, female credibility is inherently dangerous to it. Patriarchy is called that for a reason: men really do benefit from it. When we take seriously women’s experiences of sexual violence and humiliation, men will be forced to lose a kind of freedom they often don’t even know they enjoy: the freedom to use women’s bodies to shore up their egos, convince themselves they are powerful and in control, or whatever other uses they see fit.
Not only does Drake benefit from weakening women in his field of work, now that we see such strong talent and competition, he is protecting himself should his romantic-track record give any indications as to what he might do, as well as protecting his male counterparts in the industry. He is protecting himself not any women even if he does say, “I gotta protect ya” he does not even have the common decency to respect us.

I've just been ping-ponging back and forth between Stranger Things and Batfam obsessions so here's a very self indulgent combination.
Au where Steve Harrington is Jack Drake's slightly older first cousin. They were close until Steve's parents disowned him and then reconnected sporadically when Jack was a young adult, but when Steve and Eddie got married, Janet severed ties claiming she thought Steve and his loser rockstar husband would be a bad influence on Tim. Jack reconciles with him when he wakes up from his coma, and asks Steve to take care of Tim if anything happens to him(Jack). When Jack is killed Steve and Eddie become Tim's guardians.
Rough Timeline.
1966 - Eddie is born
1967- Steve Harrington is born
1974- Jack Drake is born
1980- Bruce Wayne is born
1982- Clark Kent is adopted by the Kents
1983-6 -ST seasons 1-4
1987 - Upsidedown Closes for the last time + the Wayne's are killed in front of their son.
1990- Dick Grayson is Born
1995- Jason is born
1996- Cass is born
1999 - Tim is born/the Batman starts his stuff
2001 - Flying Graysons/first Superman sightings
2004 - the Justice League is formed, Boston legalizes gay marriage.
2005 - steddie marriage. Janet Drake throws a hissy fit and Jack and Steve stop speaking.
2007- Dick Quits Robin, Damian is born, andJason becomes Robin
2010- Jason Dies
2011- Tim becomes Robin
2013- Janet dies, Jack is in a coma
2014 - Jack wakes up. Wants to reconnect with his family (including Steve and Eddie), titans tower ™️
2015 - Damian arrives, Jack finds out. Steph is Robin and "dies"
2016 - Jack dies and Steve and Eddie get custody of Tim. Kon and Bart die temporarily.
Tim is going thru it and also suddenly has two VERY attentive guardians who have been dealing with weird bullshit longer than even Batman. They find out about Robin and lecture Batman and insist that if Tim's gonna pull a Dustin then Steve gets to babysit (be on comms).
Steve insists he's too old to be a vigilante but he is on comms all the time and on more than one occasion busts into a scene hitting goons with the batmobile and rescuing Bruce and Tim. He also basically forcefully adopts Jason after he finds out about titans tower. Eddie just laughs, but Jason used to be a big fan of Eddie's band so he is automatically the cool dad.
Somewhere in here Steve and Eddie kind of adopt Dick, Damian, Cass and Steph
Barbara and Max meet and it's Chaos.
Bruce tries to complain that Steve and Eddie are stealing his kids and Eddie's like. Alfred do you want some coparents? We'll adopt a full grown man. We've got kids older than Bruce that we consider to be ours. And Alfred is like. I'd love the help. He's a handful.
Anyway when Bruce "dies" and Tim's like. He's not dead! Steve is like. Yeah. I've seen weirder. Let me call supergirl- not Kara. My supergirl. Eleven. Yeah. You remember her right? She might be able to find him with her mind powers. No she's not a meta. She's had powers since before metas were a thing.
And El finds him and with her help the Justice League can get Bruce back pretty quickly. They offer her a position and she's like. I'm retired. But I'll always help a friend in need, so keep my number.
Anyways the ST crew are all adults and Tired because they thought when the justice league came around they'd be done. But Steve just keeps acquiring children who insist on getting themselves in trouble so even though he is fifty and Tired with chronic migraines and tinnitus he is still going to be the Best Damn Babysitter there is, and none of his friends/kids will let him do it alone.
Steve managed to keep it all from them before he needed to ask El for help but once the dam breaks they're all in and out of Gotham and meeting the Justice League and causing trouble left and right.
Lucas and Will both try to keep out of it and maintain their quiet lives but end up becoming emotional support/therapists/mentors to young heroes.
Dustin somehow gets to do some work on the Watchtower.
Erica, despite being in her early 40s, is trying to get the Teen Titans to unionize.
Nancy has access to guns she really really shouldn't.
Jonathan and Clark get along really well. Argyle can somehow understand the Flashes when they're talking at almost full speed.
And when Robin (Buckley not Batman-and-) meets Wonder Woman she cries.
