Calm Herbal Tea
Tumblr media
Sometimes, especially on a Friday, after a long and busy week, you need a moment to relax, to ease the tension out of your muscles and to have a little peace and quiet. A cocktail would be just fine, but if it happens to be a rainy day, this fragrant and floral Calm Herbal Tea works wonders, too!
Ingredients (makes 1/3 cup):
about 2 dozens dried cowslip flowers (primula veris)*
about 2 1/2 dozens dried jasmine flowers (trachelospermum jasminoides)**
a teaspoon Dried Lavender
*when foraging Cowslip flowers in the Spring, rinse them under cold water, and let them dry on a plain sheet of paper, a couple of weeks; when completely dried, store in an airtight jar
**Pick fresh jasmine when in full bloom in the Summer. You can make lovely bouquets with it, too. Once it start withering, remove the flowers from the stems and space them on a small tray or a plain sheet of paper. Allow to dry in a draught-free room, with indirect sunlight, a couple of weeks; then store in an airtight jar.
In a small bowl, combine, dried Cowslip flowers, dried jasmine flowers and Dried Lavender. Stir well to mix.
You can either store your Sweet Dreams Herbal Tea into a metal tea box or sealed (sterelised) glass jar, or wrap a heaped half-teaspoon of the blend into a muslin square, and tie with cotton thread to make individual tea bags (you should get about five).
Infuse Calm Herbal Tea, 6 to 8 minutes in hot water.

dabi is obsessed with your cherry perfume 🍒
he can’t get it out of his head, the sweet smell of the fruit spritzed onto your skin had his head turning the first time you had walked by him. it’s not overpoweringly sweet and he can smell a bit of jasmine as well in the fragrance. this is the first time he’s ever been this enticed before by a perfume. dabi doesn’t bother to compliment you for your perfume choice, but he does show that he is allured by it.
leaning in close to you when he bites at your neck, dabi holds back a groan when he inhales deeply. his teeth leave a bruise on your skin, the sting of his bite making you tremble in excitement but asking him to soothe you now with a kiss. he kisses your lips, your cheek, back to your neck again, at your collarbones, and even on the inside of your wrist. cherries, cherries, cherries—god, he’s getting obsessed.
he fucks you in missionary, one of his least favorite positions but he wants to tuck his nose along your neck to keep as close as possible to your perfume. that and to keep on biting you too. he smothers you in kisses, sometimes silencing your needy little moans and breathy calls of his name. “dabi… oh fuck dabi…!”
his cock fucks deeply into you, your eyes rolling back when he goes balls deep. your cunt clenches tightly before you cum on him. you beg for more, begging for dabi to keep using you as much as he sees fit.
the smell of the room reeks of sex, his cologne, and your perfume melded together in some odd mixture that only smells good to the two of you in the moment. dabi lays back in your girly bed to catch his breath, his head resting comfortably on silk pillowcases and his eyes leisurely glossing over the frames of art, photographs, and the dried bouquet of flowers hung on your wall. he lets you curl up next to him and rest your head on his chest. it’s faint, you had sweat off your perfume when you rode his cock earlier but it’s still there.
days later, dabi smells cherries again but doesn’t see you around. he looks for you but you’re nowhere in sight, and the perfume he’s associated with you doesn’t quite smell the same like the way you wear it. so when you’re in front of him again, it’s when he realizes that it’s not just the perfume you wear that he likes.
he just actually likes you.

Tumblr media
You've been good. You've been diligent. You've been following the rules of the coven.
To not share the gift with anyone, a secret kept under oath, hand over the binding of an old spell book, its surface course and rough, centuries of hands- young, old, powerful and weak, all part of the history of how that book came to be.
When you started dating Eddie, you were summoned, warned by your coven to keep the magic away from your human boyfriend, hidden under a veil of thin shame disguised as indifference.
And six months went by, then a year. You thought you were safe, you thought you'd gotten through the worst part of keeping the secret.
You deluded yourself. He loves you so much, there's no reason he would leave you, not even for a secret as big as yours. You've put protection spells around everything that involved actual magic in your house, the potion cabinet you kept in the hallways as decoration, the spell books hidden under a floorboard in your room.
Although he could not feel it, your apartment pulsated with raw magical energy in its purest form. You really thought you were safe.
A rainy November afternoon, you're tasked to bring some ingredients you've had stashed at your apartment to your aunt Hilda's house, a delivery from Janice- ingredients from Bulgaria, after your shift.
What surprises you about your aunt Hilda is that despite being a witch, she does not go unnoticed- living in one of the Painted Ladies house in the heart of San Francisco, all by herself and her cat, Arsenio.
She always invites you in for tea and a reading, so you step into her house, smelling of antique parchment, tea leaves and a mystical smell of pungent resin and wood, much different from your incense and dried flowers smell.
"I need to invite Janice over one of these days" she says in her veiled voice, pouring you a cup of jasmine tea.
"I don't know if she's going to be able to get out of Haight Ashbury, Aunt Hilda. She's like two- hundred years old or something" you laugh, rummaging through your bag for the delivery you visited your aunt for, placing the jars on the table.
She gasps in delight "You can't get those plants anywhere else, she must have paid a fortune for that blood from a vampire's fangs" she squeals, running to her cabinet to find a home for her new deliveries.
"How's your human, dear?" she asks from the kitchen, followed by clattering of glass and metal.
"Oh, Eddie's fine, he should be off work soon, maybe we'll do something after" you shrug, petting her cat, Arsenio, on your lap.
"And his handsome hunk of an uncle?" you roll your eyes at that.
"God, Aunt Hilda, gross" you groan, sinking in your seat.
"Let me know when he's back in town, I need to invite them both over one of these days, it might be nice. Shall we do a reading before I leave?" she sits back down at the small table and takes a sip of her tea, tarot cards in hand.
"Yeah, I'll ask him for his schedule" you finish your tea "Let me do a one card pull, I need to get home"
"You know, dear, you've been awfully nervous lately- so jumpy" She says, as she shuffles the laminated cards for what feels like forever,
"I'm okay, Aunt Hilda, just stressed with work" you lie, exhaling with anticipation as her wrinkled hand holds the deck. Your aunt's readings have always made you nervous.
You'd been jumpy for a while, the thought of Eddie finding out had been making you nervous, but you wouldn't dare to tell your aunt that.
She offers the deck to you, you pick a card and then give it to her. A gasp escapes her upon looking at it.
A panic rises through your body "What? What is it?" you ask, your bag already across your shoulder, holding on to its strap.
"The Tower" she mutters, destruction, unexpected change, awakening.
A shiver runs down your spine, one by one your vertebrae straighten "I just had a really bad feeling, dear. I would check in on your human boy" she places a hand on her temple, heart racing as you bolt out of your seat and leave.
On the train, panic settles in, wondering if Eddie was somehow connected to this.
A call startles you. It's him.
You tremble when nearing the phone to your ear.
"Hey, witchy, I'm at your house- I used the spare key. I just called 'cause I had a question" he says, voice dubious and vague.
"What is it, Ed? I'm on my way home"
"I was just wondering if it's normal that the cabinet in your hallway is open? I had to stop Circe from getting into it a couple times" you hear a meowing in the background, he must be holding her.
"What cabinet?" you feel your chest rise and fall at an incredibly fast pace.
"The one with the wilted flowers on them, it has a bunch of bottles. Are- are these fake potions?" There's an amused lilt in his voice, almost as if he's laughing at you. Fuck. The potion cabinet.
"Eddie don't touch anything, I'm literally here" your alarmed tone freaks him out, but he has no time to say anything as you hang up and enter your apartment building.
You run up the stairs, heart in your throat, as you reach your front door and slam it open. Eddie's head swings violently.
"Hey, witchy, what's wrong?" he stands up from the cabinet, holding Circe on one arm. You're heaving, irregular breaths, as you see he's still standing, alive, and breathing.
You close the door. "You didn't touch anything in there, did you?" you run towards the open cabinet, checking for missing bottles.
"Witchy, honey, I don't get why you're so jumpy about a couple of fake potions, they would actually be really useful for DnD" Eddie chuckles, reaching into the cabinet to grab a bottle, observing it up close. A greyish- blue liquid swirls inside the bottle.
"Eddie! Put it back! It's dangerous!" you exclaim as you reach for the bottle, but he's blocking you.
"Baby, I think you might be getting a little too carried away with this witchy stuff. There's no way you should be reacting like this over some water and dye" he swirls the bottle once again "I'll even drink it, show you it's not actually that dangerous"
A smug smile adorns his lips, as you watch helplessly while he uncorks the small vial and downs its content.
“EDDIE NO” You aren’t even sure what it is, which makes a panic set into your stomach, hoping you could reverse whatever he ingested.
“No, no, no, no, what have you done?” your head encapsulated in your hands, feeling the beady sweat on your hairline, falling to your knees with the realization. You’re going to have to tell him.
“See? Not dangerous, baby. I love you, but you need to do something about this obsession, it’s getting out of hand” he sighs “I’m hungry i’m gonna get some food” but before he can even take a step, the rumbling of stone fills the room.
You grab the empty glass vial and examine its label. Shit. He turned himself to stone.
In a panic, he looks at you.
“Witchy, what’s going on?” his eyes dart from you to his frozen legs, the stone spreading itself upward quickly “Witch-what- is that stone?” He goes still after that.
A statue. His cold, grey eyes staring up at you in a panic.
Tears brimming your eyes at the sudden realization that once you turn him back to normal he’s going to know.
His hands feel cold at the touch as you cling on to your boyfriend’s statued form. Mouth agape, eyebrows pinched in fear, it hurt you to see him like this. You were going to lose it all because of a dumb mistake.
A desperate scream bubbles inside your chest as you hold yourself flush against Eddie’s cold surface, wishing his arms could hug you back, having to come to terms with the fact that this is probably the last time you’ll ever see him in your home. You won’t ever get to hold him again.
Weak and teary- eyed you reach for your phone, wiping under your eyes as you try to stabilize yourself.
“Hello, dear?” aunt Hilda says through the phone.
“Aunt Hilda I made a really terrible mistake” you sob, shoulders shaking with the violence of your hiccups.
“What’s wrong? What happened?” the concern is palpable through her voice.
“I left- left my potion cabinet open and Eddie-” another string of violent sobs follow, rumbled deep in your chest, shaking you to your very core.
“What happened to Eddie?” The question is cautious, though unfortunately you could feel the alarm and sternness in her voice.
“He turned to stone” you sigh, exasperated, letting yourself sink into the sofa.
“Stone? How did a human man turn to stone?” ever the help, your aunt exclaims.
A dramatic exhale you feel like you’ve been holding onto “I left my potion cabinet open and he- and he has a spare key” you sob- all your fault for letting your guard down, all your fault for letting yourself care for him so mindlessly.
“He got into it thinking they were all fake, I tried to- to stop him” a siffle stops you “he was trying to be funny” a string of sobs followed, unable to speak any longer.
“You need to pull yourself together,” Hilda says, amidst your inconsolable sobs “you know how to reverse this” her voice is stern, yet shaky, she feels for you, having to let your love go.
“The mirror” you mumble.
“That’s right, get a mirror- circle of reflection, circle of protection” she reminds you “repeat those words, he’ll be okay, dear” you can tell that she is hurting, breaking the law of your coven, making you face consequences you haven't even thought of.
Would you be losing your power? Would you have to move away from him? In hindsight that would be a blessing, as you doubt he would want to stay, now that your secret is uncovered.
Hilda hangs up the phone as you scramble to get a mirror, and smear salt over his heart. Trying to reverse the spell that might have broken it.
The mirror faces your boyfriend, his features grey and scared- the last time you’ll ever see him in this lifetime.
Circle of reflection, circle of protection
Circle of reflection, circle of protection
Circle of reflection, circle of protection
The hand that is not holding the mirror is clutched on tightly to his chest, as you keep repeating the words.
The sound of rubble breaking makes your heart wrench, selfishly wanting him to stay a statue for a little longer, so you won’t have to say goodbye to him just yet, but the stone armor sheds, and his eyes are brown instead of dull and grey, and his arms move, as well as his mouth, closing in itself, breathing as if he’s come to life for the first time.
He rubs his eyes first, drowsy, like waking up from a one- hundred year old slumber. He looks around the room, it’s familiar to him, the smell of incense that was there, and then it wasn’t, blocked by the earthy smell of rubble and earth.
“What happened?” he mumbles, shaking his stiff limbs, kicking the broken suit of stone armor at his feet, your hand still on his heart “Witchy?”
His eyes are blown wide, memories of what had happened an hour before coming to the surface. The same panicked look adorns his face.
“The potion- it wasn’t” he begins, as you move your hand off of his body, much to your heart’s dismay. You shake your head.
“It wasn’t fake. None of them are fake” you mutter, staring at the floor, not even daring to look at him. There’s a quiet tension, an almost awkward silence, charged with pain and heartbreak, as Eddie realizes what you mean by ‘not fake.’
“And you brought me back from whatever I turned into” he breathes.
You just nod, head fixated on the floorboards and the rubble surrounding his feet.
“Does that make you-” he gulps. Can’t even bring himself to say it.
“A witch” you mumble under your breath “a real one,” your gaze falls on his eyes, dilated and sad, as his eyebrows curve up, a line forming on the bridge of his nose.
There’s once again an unsettling quiet between you two, as he tries to wrap his head around the news.
His chest feels hollow, where your hand had been just moments before, an unrecognizable phantom pressing down on his heart, rubbing salt in a gashing wound, hoping it would ameliorate it, only to make it bleed more.
He takes a few steps back, watching his step over the rubble, breaking his silence after what feels like hours.
“Why didn’t you tell me this?” it’s a mere mumble, but the question was clear, hurt, and a little scared, maybe.
“I swore under oath that I would keep it a secret” you purse your lips, taking a step forward. Your heart shatters when he takes a step back.
His chest is stilled, breath caught in his throat, hands at his sides as he scoffs.
“You swore you’d keep it a secret? Is that why you’ve been so jumpy lately? You knew I was bound to find out and you didn’t tell me?” his head is reeling, betrayal cuts through him like a knife as more and more of looking at you twists the dagger in his chest.
“I didn’t want you to find out, Ed. I promised to my coven-”
“Your coven?  There’s more of you?” you can’t do anything else but swallow on the knot in your throat, scratching and engorging with every word that comes out of Eddie’s mouth, and nod.
“And you let me drink the potion, God knows what it could have been” he trembles, a shaky breath escapes him.
“I tried to stop you, Eddie!” you reach for him, hanging on the feeble hope he’ll realize that you have never meant to hurt him in the first place.
“And- and what if you spelled me, huh? What if you spelled me to make me fall in love with you? Is my love for you not real?” that hurt you more than anything else he could have said, tears brimming your eyes, escaping from their confinement as they streak down your cheeks.
“I’ve never used my magic on you,” you admit, voice thick with salty tears “my love for you is real, as yours is. I never tampered with your heart, it’s not who I am” bottom lip jutted out and trembling, feeling on the teetering edge of the end.
“I don’t know who you are” a stab to the heart would have hurt less. “You’ve been lying to me for the past year about who you are. No wonder I was so in love with you, you made me fall in love with a person that doesn’t exist, you spelled me!” he’s trembling, you can see it in the way that his fists are balled up– something he does to stabilize himself whenever he’s upset.
And now he’s upset because of you.
“Eddie–” you take a step forward, he takes a step back.
“No. Don’t- don’t come closer.” tears well at the bottom of your lash line, as you watch him turn away, leave and close the door behind him. Words trapped at the bottom of your throat. Words you’ll never get to say again.
You’re not sure how long you stand there, staring at the doorknob, hoping that it might turn, revealing Eddie once again, ready for you to explain everything to him.
But the doorknob doesn’t turn, the door doesn’t open, and Eddie doesn’t come back.
You refuse to sweep the rubble from the last time he was in your apartment, hoping that the smell of him stuck to the cold stone, but there’s nothing left of him in your space.
Tumblr media
The thing about love witches is that when the thing most precious to them, their hearts, break,  the life force of their power fades.
So within a short span of days, you notice yourself being weakened. Simple spells become a hard feat, as you can barely make things levitate, sitting in the darkness of your room.
Days begin to merge into themselves, as you get yourself to work, then home, then work, then home. A repeating cycle you don’t intend to stop. You leave around the back side of the store, to not let Eddie see you while he’s on his smoke break, blending into the crowded streets of what once seemed like the best place in the world.
Your aunt Hilda doesn’t hear from you, and neither does anyone else. You fall off the face of the earth, hoping that your hours never coincide with Eddie’s.
But you can feel it from next door, the pain and hurt that radiates from the record store. You feel it in the way he speaks to customers, in the way he sighs as he gets off his smoke break.
You hear him ask Janice about you, she tells him that she doesn’t know, that she hasn’t seen you in a while. Respecting your wishes to let him live his life in peace.
But he wasn’t living his life in peace. In fact, Eddie was miserable.
He was miserable in the way that everything reminded him of you, in the way that if he stepped too close to your store (to make sure you were working that day), he’d smell the rose incense you’d light at your house. The one he would smell on your clothes.
The crystals that sat on his windowsill were now tightly packed and shoved away on a far up shelf that he would not be reminded of you. He burned every trace of you, the taste of betrayal bitter in his throat as he sat on his couch every night, always on the left side, because you sat on the right. A place for you was always carved in his mind, whether it was unconscious or intentional.
The smell of your shampoo lingers in the pink bottles in his shower, in the silk pillow you always slept on when you went over to his house. A silk shirt you left on his bed, gingerly placed on his pillow as he lets your smell engulf him. That’s the only way he can sleep.
There’s a fear deeply setting in, that he might just never be able to get over you. Despite the lies and the secrets, he will never be able to not think about you, not when the smell of rose incense or the color pink exist, not when long skirts and crystals and tarot cards and brocade rugs exist. Not when you exist. Not when you keep walking the earth, sadness seeping in every crevice and every crack of his walls.
He knows he can’t go on like this. Not while you roam the same streets he roams, waiting for you to turn around. Look at me, witchy, look at me.
And you’re so sad. He can see it in your eyes, in the way you don’t carry yourself like you used to– shoulders slouched, dressed in black like you’re mourning the loss of your heart. Mourning the loss of your love.
He debates going back to Hawkins for a bit. Going back to live with his uncle– leave this new world behind, just until the air has been purified of you. Until he’s no longer thinking about the witchy girl who haunts his dreams at night. Go work where his friend Steve works at, shitty, dead- end job, just for a bit.
Confine himself to the life of a hermit, just so he can allow you to live in peace.
So he goes back to Hawkins, under the guise of going home for the holidays. He picks up whatever jobs his uncle can’t do anymore because of his age, driving the beat up yellow pick- up truck in and out of town.
“I never thought I’d see the day Munson would come crawling back” he’d hear a couple of people say on the street. He’s never gone unnoticed, but now more so than before– integrated in the San Francisco scene, he did anything but blend in. And he swears he sees you a few times, walking around downtown Hawkins, your hair, your clothes, your bag. Prancing around like your life is back to normal.
Could it have been a spell? Did you spell him to not make him forget about you?
But he knows it isn’t like you. Not malicious, not even as a witch, he assumes.
He keeps himself up at night thinking about you. You’d never use magic on him. With a sound mind, he tells himself that’s true. Your love for him is real. Is his love for you real? Shivering in the freezing temperature of his uncle’s trailer he’d ponder whether what you had was real or not.
Real.
He drives himself crazy, the thought of you plaguing his mind.
Even his uncle grows worried, the purple bags under his nephew’s eyes, all the books on witchcraft Eddie could find at the Hawkins local library sitting on his desk. Staying up to read on anything and everything that could help him.
And when that doesn’t work he goes on his uncle’s shitty wifi he never uses to research anything about witches, about magic, about you.
You don’t sense him anymore. Not through the walls, not in his sardonic laugh. It’s like he’d vanished into thin air.
You find yourself stepping into the record store after a shift, asking his shitty coworkers what happened to Eddie.
And you’re so weak. So tired, it is even a feat to be able to make it through one full shift standing up, finding a stool to sit on. You’ve paled, eyes dark and lifeless.
“He’s gone back home for the holidays” one of the assholes who made fun of you says “left you stranded here all by yourself? Or did he kick you to the curb?” he smirks, and the other idiot laughs. You make a mental note to hex them for good next time.
If you don’t die first.
Tumblr media
Eddie comes back to San Francisco after the holidays, and it’s like he’s never left.
Union Square has taken off the tree and the ice skating rink– he wanted to take you there. He thought you’d be good at ice skating. You’re good at everything. Or maybe it’s because you’re magic.
The restaurant you went to on your first date has closed down. There’s a smile creeping on his face as he remembers you laughing because he couldn’t eat with chopsticks. He misses hearing you laugh. He misses seeing you smile.
The tiny twinkle, the stars in your eyes. The way he’d braid your hair at night. Petting Circe, nestled in between you two in your bed.
He sees you for the first time since he’s been back on the porch of your shop. His heart shrinks at the sight of you. Eyes sunken in, buried in layers and layers of woolen fabric, staring blankly at the street in front of you.
The thing about love witches is that when the thing most precious to them, their hearts, break,  the life force of their power fades.
He remembers reading that in an old looking book during the holidays. He wrote it down in his notebook.
A love witch. Thrives on being loved and being in love.
Her heart is only safe when her love is true and unfettered.
He sees it now.
He shows up to your house after talking himself into it for a week, with the excuse of returning a shirt. The same silk  shirt he’d been sleeping on top of since he left you. He had it washed for you. It doesn’t smell like you anymore.
He knocks. Is it him or are his hands always that sweaty? Is his heart beating at a normal pace? Is his hair okay? And his breath? Oh shit, he has a zit on his chin.
“Go away Aunt Hilda!” he hears you say, grumpy and grouchy. The veiled sadness in your voice creates a rift between him and the door.
So he knocks. Again. And Again.
“Aunt Hilda I don’t know how many times I have to tell you this, I don’t want– Eddie” A breath gets trapped in your diaphragm, feeling your heart start picking up its pace for the first time in what felt like weeks.
“Hi” he gives you a tight smile, the silk balled up in a fist, purple with little black swirls on it.
“Hi, um, I– what are you doing here? Do you wanna come in?” you slither like a worm, that’s how you feel. The boy you’ve been pining and crying and suffering for is here. Right in front of you.
You look so much more frail than he’d remembered “I uh–” he holds up the fabric “you left this at my house”
“Oh, thanks. That’s sweet of you” Your heart drops, you really thought he was going to make amends with you?
You extend your arm, so he can give the shirt to you. So he can be on his way and be gone forever.
Hands, fingers, knuckles. He misses holding your hand.
“I heard you went home for the holidays, how was that?” you lean on the doorframe, hands crossed on your chest.
“It was good, I just spent it with my uncle. He told me to tell you happy new year, uh— even though we’re not—” he shouldn’t have said the last part, he sees you sink into yourself, gazing down at the hardwood floor. His stomach twists.
“What did you do for the holidays?” he asks. He doesn’t want it to be over, not yet.
“I just stayed in, I’ve been pretty sick lately, flu season in full swing. I’ve just been—”
“Your heart’s broken, isn’t it? That’s why you’ve been so sick?” your heart drops. How does he know all this?
He reads your puzzled expression “I um— did some research. That’s what I did most of my holidays.  I just wanted to understand. I know you didn’t spell me, or whatever. You’re a love witch” he takes out a piece of paper, highlighted is a sentence, in light pink.
Her heart is only safe when her love is true and unfettered.
Your head is reeling, he hasn’t stopped thinking about you. He spent his holidays researching you, your kind. He knows you didn’t lie to him.
Tears begin to spill onto the old parchment, the tears you haven’t shed in the past two months resurfacing, as you violently jerk and sob in front of him. You missed him.
Eddie quickly steps into your apartment and closes the door, enveloping you in a hug. And it feels good for your heart, a soothing balm for all the cracks and wounds it’s suffered.
“It’s okay, witchy, you can let it out” he says, as you continue to sob on his shoulder. Soft shushing sounds as he caresses your hair “Shhh…shhh… I’ve got you” and it’s like he’s never left.
“I’m here now, I’m not leaving” his assurance makes your body feel whole again. He sits you both down on the couch.
“Witchy, I didn’t stop thinking about you for a second. I would see you everywhere, I thought I was going crazy” he begins, and maybe he sees a twinkle in your eye, something weak, almost like a heartbeat being revived.
“I thought going to Hawkins, just to distance myself would change things. But I’d keep myself awake thinking about you, all the time, wondering if you were doing okay.” His hand brushes yours, as you wipe your tears with the sleeve of your sweater.
“I would see you at work, or out and about and you looked so sad. And I just couldn’t explain to myself what happened to you, until I came across that book” he finishes.
And in turn, you don’t say anything, you just kiss him. It’s wet and messy with the tears and the saliva, but he immediately kisses you back, cradling your face in his hand. Your heart beats faster than it has in a while, and it’s like magically, your skin has a bit more color to it.
And Eddie sees the stars in your eyes again.
When you detach you just lay your head on his chest. You listen for his heartbeat, lulling you into a deep sleep, the best sleep you’ve had in two months. He follows you not soon after, Circe on his lap, as he falls into slumber with a peaceful smile on his face.
Once awoken from your sleep, you go make a cup of tea for the both of you.
“Witchy?” your head lifts at the nickname as you pour him his tea.
“So, are you a witch, a mage or a sorceress?”
You just roll your eyes and kiss him again.

[ID: Digital art of Dr Samuel Webber from The Magnus Protocol. He is a white man with dirty brown hair, portrayed from the neck up, clutching his face in his hands and smiling serenely. On the right, his flesh is mostly intact, though there are spots of dried and congealing blood where buds and flowers of sweet jasmine have grown through the skin, and a yellow slime mould grows on the back of his hand. On the left, his skull is entirely clean, and the flesh of his hand has almost rotted away. There are more jasmine buds and blades of the grass beneath him grow through his nasal cavity. Beside his skull is a small patch of black trumpet mushrooms. There is warm light filtering across his face. End ID.]
pfffft i definitely Did Not accidentally post this for ten minutes yesterday. lying

a magical toner for love and beauty
Tumblr media
i love glamour magick and i've noticed such a huge difference in my appearance and love life ever since i started using it on a daily basis! you only need 3 ingredients and it's very easy to make.
all you need is;
moon water
dried rosebuds/rose petals
dried jasmine flowers
i use 10-15 rosebuds, 1 cup of moon water and 1 tablespoon of jasmine and i boil it on low heat for around 15 minutes.
when it's done just let it cool, strain it well and transfer it to a spray bottle or a jar. you can even put your own sigils on the container to make it even stronger!
i suggest making a small batch every 7-10 days and keeping it in the fridge so it doesn't go bad.
i use it every single day on my face, my whole body and even in my hair while repeating my affirmations and i've noticed a huge difference. i look and feel more beautiful, i'm more confident, my skin is glowing, i keep hearing compliments everywhere i go and i feel adored ᥫ᭡
some of my favorite affirmations i like to repeat during my daily beauty rituals:
ᥫ᭡ i'm beautiful and loved
ᥫ᭡ i love myself and i love the way i look
ᥫ᭡ people love spoiling and complimenting me
ᥫ᭡ i'm confident and i know i deserve nothing but the best
ᥫ᭡ my hair always looks perfect
ᥫ᭡ i keep getting prettier and prettier
ᥫ᭡ i love my body and my body loves me
both roses and jasmine have very strong love, confidence, self love and beauty properties and jasmine is also an aphrodisiac so if you affirm for it it can also make you more sexy and magnetic and it can really improve your love life and your sex life!
sending you all love and light 𖹭

a little sneak peak of my (angsty) aventurine fic ♡
Tumblr media
a large bouquet of freshly picked flowers tied with a single piece of red ribbon sat on your right hip, cradled gently with both of your arms so as to not crush them.
you knew, after all, that the petals of a flower were delicate, fragile enough to fall apart with just a fleeting touch of a fingertip. you moved the bouquet closer to your chest to protect them, even though you were dreadfully aware that in a few days, they would rot and die inside an expensive ceramic vase with hardly enough water to feed themselves.
any onlooker would speculate that a yearning gentleman gave you the flowers in hopes for you to accept his love with the way you held them, like they were yours to keep and yours to treasure; and as your reflection in the mirror stared back at you with tender eyes, you began to feel that it seemed to agree with the thought. the vibrant colors of the bouquet contrasted the plain, washed out gray color of your uniform, but you allowed yourself to pretend that the flowers were for you and someone actually chose them for you with you in their mind.
slightly hesitant at first, you leaned in and moved your face closer to the flowers like a sophisticated maiden who just received a bouquet from a suitor, inhaling their sweet and earthy scent that reminded you of home. it was the same scent you would wake up to every early morning as you prepare to open your flower shop, placing them in their respective vases and pots while you water their sprouting leaves and budding petals, watching them bloom under your love and care.
you closed your eyes, imagining yourself inside your flower shop again. you would drink a cup of warm tea sprinkled with dried jasmine and lavender and arrange flowers together to create bouquets that would swoon the entire cosmos; and then a familiar pair of arms would wrap themselves around your waist, the mystery person placing his chin on top of your shoulder. you will try not to giggle when you feel the golden strands of his hair tickle your neck, and his purple eyes will sparkle with amusement as he began to open his mouth to whisper something in your ear—
"do you think she'll like it?"
your fantasy world crumbled down like crushed petals under your feet the moment you heard his voice. you forced the frivolous flutter of your heart to stop, putting on a neutral expression when you turned around to face him. he was already looking at the bouquet resting on your arms with a satisfied grin, taking off his tinted glasses to get a better look, reminding you yet again that the flowers he buys will never belong to you.
and it was obvious too. you tried to push down your disappointment as you scanned over the little gift you prepared. the bouquet consisted of red camellias (desire) that have the same shade as the streaks of a certain someone's pure white hair, and periwinkles (fondness) to match the color of her eyes. the flowers were screaming somebody else's name, but you dare not say it out loud.
without waiting for your answer, he took the bouquet from you, his gloved hands brushing against your bare ones, and you didn't fail to notice how the little action made your heart jump pathetically. observing the flowers, he hummed in contentment, "ah, of course she will. you are the most talented florist in the galaxy. i mean, look at this."
you blinked slowly, not letting the compliment get to you. you worked with him long enough to know that they were only a part of his facade. "i'm not sure about that. i was planning to get red roses but they were out of stock. i hope red camellias will make up for it."
he suddenly poked at your forehead with a finger, and this time, you failed to hide your surprise at his actions. the tips of your ears reddened, the shade becoming deeper the longer he allowed himself to touch you. he then met your wide eyed gaze with his empty and soulless ones, much different to the version of himself in your daydreams.
"don't fret. i can see you're overthinking. if my...tricks wouldn't work on topaz, i'm sure the flowers will. they always do. women tend to soften after a sweet and heartwarming gesture." he said, chuckling lowly and voice tinted with the schemes he's about to unleash.
the blonde pulled away from you and began to walk away, his touch lingering on the skin of your forehead. you didn't know what prompted you to do so, but you suddenly blurted out his name as his footsteps were beginning to sound far and far away from you like it always does,
"sir aventurine."
aventurine stopped in his tracks, his back continuing to face you. you itched to go after him, to take his hand and cage him in your arms and tell him no, that woman will never see you as i do, and she would never appreciate the flowers, don't go, don't go, don't leave me—
you forced a soft smile even if he couldn't see you at all, and said breathlessly, miserably, and hopelessly, "good luck on negotiating with miss topaz."

(if you prefer Ao3)
They learn about it in the slowly bubbling, uncertain high of victory.
She died a hero, Clarisse says, repeats, convinces, closing Drew’s hands around a bracelet far too innocent to make everyone’s hearts sink with just a glance. Its silver colour is barely visible beneath the blood. Drew’s hands were already long slick with crimson. She doesn’t say anything.
(The daughter of Ares tells them the story as they pick up their other fallen siblings. Nobody responds)
Fuchsia with an apple for Anders, seventeen and the loveliest relationship advisor. Lacy only manages a few words through her sobs and tears, her hair still in the intricate but effective braid he had put it in before battle.
Coral with a conch shell for Khalid, twelve with a love for anything one could find at the bottom of the ocean. Valentina grips his stuffed anglerfish so tightly that she almost tears it while making her speech about him.
Salmon with a thorned rose for Ina, fifteen and the best fighter in the cabin. Mitchell can barely stand while talking, choked by having been unable to retrieve more of her than a gnarled arm, recognizable only through the heart-shaped birthmark spanning the back of her hand.
Magenta with a dove for Sawyer, fourteen with the kindest eyes in the world. Drew lays the sword they had never wanted in the fire and watches it melt into perfumed smoke without a word.
Cerise with flowering myrtle for Jasmin, sixteen and the craftiest painter around. Aminah bites her knuckles to the blood in a failed attempt not to cry when the burning paints colour the fire in impossible hues.
… Hot pink with an electric spear for Silena. Clarisse sets the fire with a blank face, dried tear tracks gouging grooves down her cheeks.
(A grief-stained title of cabin counsellor for Drew, fifteen with the weight of her world suddenly on her shoulders. Cabin Ten cannot keep her from turning her head high, eyeliner sharper than it’s been in years.)
----------
It’s not Drew who orders all signs of Silena Beauregard to be scrubbed from the insides of Cabin Ten.
Instead, Mitchell passes through the cabin while the others haunt around Camp like the ghosts they had avoided becoming. Carefully, carefully, he folds up Silena’s fashionista posters, picks pictures of her off the clothing clips on the strings strung up throughout the cabin, strips her bed of the flower pillows they’d all collaborated to get for her last (final) birthday, collects clothes from her section of shelves and drawers, and packs everything with even a trace of her into the suitcase under his bed. Grief echoes off the bare spaces, sandalwood perfume soaking into the walls, a vestige of one of the many lives struck short these past several days.
His siblings don’t say anything when they finally come and find him curled up on Ina’s bed, clutching her morning star plush like it’s the only thing keeping him tethered to his body, the entire cabin missing key elements. Drew starts to get ready for bed, Aminah throws herself onto Jasmin’s bed and shatters, Lacy tears her hair free of Anders’s braid with a wail, and Valentina screams into Khalid’s pillows until her voice is hoarse. Mitchell swears he hears similar sounds from the other cabins.
(Rory comes the next day, backpack full of clothing designs he hadn’t bothered to unpack in his rush upon hearing about the strange happenings in New York. He takes one look at his siblings’ hollowed faces, at the bare beds, at the empty spaces, and breaks, begging for forgiveness for not being there to fight along their sides, for not protecting them like an older brother should, for working on his college projects while they fought and died for the world. Drew scoffs, lips perfectly painted, and says there’s a reason they didn’t tell him war was brewing over their last Iris Message. The others pile onto him, cursing and crying and trying to keep themselves from falling into pieces.)
----------
Officially, Silena Beauregard is a hero. She had been burned with laurel wreaths, and offerings were tossed into the fire to aid her journey to Elysium. Her photo has been put up in the Big House alongside many others, and even Mr D managed not to butcher “Silena Beauregard” for once, prompted by a centaur kick. Her name is whispered under the topic of the ultimate sacrifice, of the power of love, of the bravery of unexpected leaders.
Unofficially, the only one who speaks her name with pure reverence is Clarisse La Rue, and no one says it with such vitriol as Drew Tanaka. Her spy bracelet, still drenched in blood, has been hurled against a wall and remains hidden and gathering dust under her bed. Her cabin has been scrubbed clean of any mentions of her, her name unspoken in fear of Drew’s newfound cruelty.
(Drew builds back up the walls her siblings had dismantled with so much care, taller and thicker than ever before.)
(Mitchell retreats back into himself, the skittishness he had worked so hard to shed shrouding him in full force once again.)
(Lacy melts into the crowd like never before, burying her voice beneath a blanket of sorrow.)
(Valentina ditches her soft colours and loose wardrobe, forcing attention onto her new tastefully torn jeans and bold shades and away from her wail-wrecked throat.)
(Aminah tugs her grief tight around herself and leaves with the summer, her goodbye lacking a definitive “see you later”.)
----------
Two boys, adorned in pearls and guided by geese, arrive in a cabin full but hollow, plagued by dead siblings and a traitorous hero. Twins, they are, nine years old and unknowing of the carnage of war, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Drew scoffs and scolds but leaves them to her remaining siblings, for her sharp tongue has never been suited for introductions, and even in the wake of her death-stained rule, she will not dare shut children down so soon after arrival.
Names of all the ghosts haunting the cabin become unspoken, none willing to explain them and blemish the twins’ innocence.
It does not work.
Not when Lev walks in on Lacy sorting and resorting dozens of vials of perfumes with shaking hands and trembling breaths. Not when Ren asks Valentina about the night sky painted on the wall over an empty bed and she shuts down entirely for the rest of the day. Not when Lev holds up a mirror to help Mitchel neaten up the impulsive haircut he had given himself after a game of Capture the Flag. Not when Ren catches Drew in a screaming match with another camper over a girl he had never heard about.
Not when something weighs heavily over the empty spaces in the cabin, over the necks of their newfound siblings.
So they ask someone else.
Clarisse La Rue. Will Solace. Connor Stoll. Nyssa Barrera. Malcolm Pace.
Slowly, slowly, they collect pieces, find ways to fit them together, compare conflicting accounts. They get the story of clashing metal, raging fire, slithering scales. A frightful fairytale, starring their fellow campers as the main characters. The missing limbs, the overabundance of scars, the paranoid glances — it all clicks together, and the uncomfortable hollowness of Camp Half-Blood is suddenly apparent.
(Eventually, they ask about their own Cabin’s side of the story.)
(They receive no answer beyond solemn looks and half-hearted shrugs.)
----------
Piper McLean falls from the sky, crashing straight through the fragile roof of the system Cabin Ten has established for itself the moment she bursts with pink light.
She is… argumentative. Unwilling to cram herself into the tattered tapestry of their Cabin the war had left behind. Determined to be different, to stand out, to raise her hackles at those around her. Filled with an anger towards the paints and ruffles her siblings wrap themselves in, and unconcerned with not letting it spill over and burn them.
She challenges Drew, and they cheer.
(Will the sister-that-never-left finally come back to them?)
Drew scoffs and huffs, sharpens her nails on the sound of Piper’s voice, but does not fight.
(They have fought for so long, and she is tired, and maybe an older kid with none of the wounds that mar the rest of them is needed in Cabin Ten.)
(Within a month, Drew wrenches permission for them to leave Camp for a shopping trip out of Chiron, and they know she is coming back.)

jasmine bubbles
Summary: Basim, you, and a much needed break in a floral scented tub.
word count: 0.3k
Tumblr media
Here //ao3 // MASTERLIST 9
The flakes of the dried flowers and herbs circled around you both in the tub. Thin tendrils of steam writhed upwards to surround you both in its searing embrace. You let your fingers dance across the water, lightly trailing where the flowers flowed and where you could see the scented oils float with the water. From behind, two large arms wrapped around your waist.
With a light laugh, you reached back down to intertwine your fingers with his.
Basim moved aside a few strands of your damp hair before planting a kiss along your shoulder. You could feel his heart hammering in his chest as he pressed against you. If the water was not sufficient enough, the besotted Assassin took your attention front and center.
Warm brown eyes met your gaze when you turned your head to face him, pressing a chaste kiss before the day started.
"Good morning..."
He moved to cradle the side of your face in order to return the kiss, lingering on longer than you had anticipated but you welcomed every second of it all the same.
"Good morning to you too, my love."
You both stayed that way in a tender embrace for the few waning minutes. Life and responsibilities as Master Assassins would soon make their demands of you, but neither elements could invade the sanctity of enjoying the dawn. These quiet moments were a rarity but you relished the gift of presence with Basim before anyone else took away his attention that you preferred all to yourself.
A deep relaxed sigh signaled that your blissful moment was soon due for a conclusion. You held on tighter to his hands around your waist as if a meek last act of defiance.
"I don't want to leave just yet....just a few more minutes."
The low rumble from his chest produced a warm laugh that made your heart flutter.
"Who am I to deny my heart whatever they want?"

hello i just got home from work n I'm thinking about festive eddie and witchy
Eddie wasn't able to fly into Hawkins for the holidays because of his work schedule, so he brought Hawkins to him.
It's your first Christmas Eve together and he's just locked up the store early to go pick Wayne up from the airport. It's the first time you and Wayne meet.
He's staying at Eddie's one bedroom apartment, your boyfriend taking the chance to sleep over at your house (like he hasn't been sleeping there for the past week anyway).
Anyways, he's taken the week off work where he could to show Wayne around SF, since the man has never left Indiana. Over Christmas lunch, Eddie meets your coven family, that is strangely made up of just women, but he doesn't think too much about it because they fawn over him and how handsome he is, and they keep uncle and nephew well fed.
Wayne think's you're lovely, maybe a bit too odd for him to understand, with your whimsical attitude and the way the energy seems to suddenly change when you're around, but he sees the way Eddie is completely smitten over you, the pile of presents for you he's hidden in his closet. The picture you took of the two of you together at the Palace of Fine Arts on his fridge.
Wayne has even brought you a little present.
"Didn't know what ya liked, so I gotcha some chocolates" he said, taking a See's Candies chocolate box from his suitcase. You blush at the gesture, at how the man has automatically considered you part of his little family. A vintage brown corduroy jacket materializes itself already packaged up on your bed, you didn't know he was going to get you a gift.
But he loves it, as much as he loves the trucker hat Eddie's got him. Silly trucker hats are his thing, Eddie's gotten him one every Christmas for the past five years.
The contender this year is a hat that says- women love me, fish fear me
You laugh about how stupid that sounds, but the real joke is that your aunt Hilda really has the hots for Wayne.
Eddie gets you a new tarot deck. He's actually been taking notes since you've started dating.
Dried jasmine flowers are hard to come by? He's gotten you four small bottles of it. You dropped a crystal? He's got it. You say you like poppyseed chai cookies? He's had his neighbor bake them for you.
The way he dotes on you and fulfills your every need makes you the luckiest girl on Earth. Wayne says so, too.
You don't celebrate Christmas the traditional way, but the pagan version of it, which still calls for a tree and wreaths and evergreen branches all over your apartment, which you spend Christmas Eve in, Circe nuzzling in Wayne's lap as soon as e sits on the couch. You make a Yule log and decorate cookies. Various mistletoe branches hang on your roof.
Even late into the night, after Eddie has dropped off Wayne at his apartment, you tell him about a pagan tradition of performing fertility rituals under the mistletoe. Lit only by the lights of your tree and a fireplace, you end up falling asleep naked on your pink brocade rug.

Scars
Azriel x Reader
Summary: Reader shows Azriel his scars are as beautiful as he is.
Warnings: mentions of childhood abuse
Word Count: 1,664
Notes: Thank you again @cityofidek for this sweet fluffy request! I hope you all enjoy 🫶🏼 Your comments/feedback are always so appreciated! Xx
---------------------------
Thanks to the increased intensity of Cassian’s morning workouts, your aching feet begged to be closer to the fireplace, so you inched down the couch and flexed your toes against the delicious heat. The plush chenille throw you had engrossed yourself with over the past few nights was almost done, but your tired eyes and sore hands needed a break.
You had been down in the Library for hours, cozying up next to the warmth of the fire and embroidering along the edge of the massive piece you began weeks ago: a garden of lush, blooming flowers against the soft, pink blanket—peonies, winter roses, tulips, twirling vines of jasmine, snapdragons, summer hibiscus, all in bright colored threads and accented with tiny sparkling beads. You came here often—a comforting, quiet refuge from the bustling life upstairs.
You don’t know how or when you dozed off, jolting awoke to the scent of sun-kissed cedar and fresh morning mist. Scrambling to sit up, you immediately recognized who it belonged to.
Azriel’s deep, low chuckle had you quickly rubbing the exhaustion out of your eyes.
“Every time I come down here, I find you asleep over your work,” he said softly with a tsk, head propped up against his fist and one long leg crossed over the other. He was leaning back casually on the couch opposite the one you were just sprawled out on.
“I have no idea when I fell asleep,” you mumbled, gathering and folding up your work. “The fire had me feeling so cozy,” you giggled in a still-sleepy daze, extending your hands against the heat.
And immediately regretting it.
A muscle flickered in his jaw as Azriel averted his gaze towards the back of the small reading corner, where the blaze from the hearth couldn’t reach. The cool darkness was no doubt inviting him and his shadows to hide. At parties and gatherings, he always avoided the fire, his scars running deeper than the surface of his skin. Azriel’s childhood was traumatic and painful, and you knew how he felt about his hands, so you hurriedly changed the subject.
“What are you doing up so late?”
A dumb question to ask. Azriel was always out on long missions and odd hours, working tirelessly to defend and protect his Court; it was one of the things you admired so much about him.
He didn’t meet your eyes when he responded, still facing the dark that beckoned him, his shadows swirling imperceptibly faster around him to create a soft, shielding cocoon. “I just got back from dealing with Devlon and his cronies.” Forearms braced against his muscled thighs, he looked down at the palms of his hands, picking underneath his nails. Something deep in you stirred at the distant, harsh tone of his voice, and before you could think, you crossed the small distance to where he sat on the old, worn leather couch.
“Is everything okay?”
Another dumb question—you cringed, wanting to shrivel up and disappear knowing you were making the situation worse, let alone provide any comfort.
Azriel kept his eyes locked on his hands as if he was alone and you were no longer sitting mere inches from him. His silky dark hair, tousled from his flight home, was long enough to hang in front of his brow, almost covering his eyes.
“Sometimes…I remember how much sin I’ve committed with these hands. How many people they’ve hurt, how much pain they’ve inflicted.”
You didn’t move, didn’t dare to.
“Sometimes, when I think about it, I hate it. I hate myself. I hate these grotesque hands that cause so much suffering,” he breathed, a cool, icy rage lacing his voice, barely above a whisper.
Your mouth dried out. Unsure how to respond to the sudden morsel of truth and pain and despair the Shadowsinger had just revealed to you, you remained frozen where you sat.
You and Azriel had been friends for a few years since you moved into the House of Wind and began working in the library under Clotho. During your first months, you joined the Valkyries in training, where you met Azriel, and the two of you quickly became friends. Or at least you considered him a friend, ignoring the crush you developed on him when you first laid eyes on the unbearably handsome Illyrian. His quiet, calming presence had you often gravitating toward him, whether it was at parties, during training, or family dinners—your seat at the table next to him was always reserved.
You hadn’t been able to sleep properly for months after Nesta told you about his past—many years ago when you mustered the courage to ask about his hands.
The same hands he was now speaking of, ashamed of the brutal burn marks that littered his skin.
Heavy silence filled the air between you, interrupted only by the crackling of the burning wood.
“Azriel…” You choked on his name, grabbing one of his hands, solid and sturdy and warm. He looked down at your hands against his, then finally lifted those burning hazel eyes to meet yours. He went utterly still, awaiting your words.
“Azriel, that’s not true. You do what you have to for a reason. Those people hurt others and deserve what comes for them. If it weren’t you, it would’ve been someone else.” You kept your voice strong and steady, and didn’t look away from his intense gaze as you continued. “These are the same hands that have been training me, strong and skilled, and the same ones that bring me tea late at night when I’m working down here. The hands that carry and play with Nyx, loving and kind. The hands that lift up those around you when they’re down.”
Azriel was breathing unsteadily as he said, “No…look. Look at how beautiful your hands are against mine. They’re hideous,” he scoffed, shutting his eyes as he turned his head back to the darkness, clutching his fingers tightly around yours. Azriel’s vulnerability had you trembling as you reached up to cup his face and gently turned him back towards you. “Your hands are beautiful, too, Az. These scars don’t define you,” you assured, tracing your thumb softly along the length of his scars.
Maybe your words weren’t enough.
Not enough to undo 500 years of ache and rage that found their home in the intricate swirls of bumps and grooves atop his perfect hands.
A smile tugged on your lips as an idea popped into your head. “Here, maybe I can help…I want you to see what I see.”
You didn’t miss the incredulous look on Azriel’s face as you shot up and began ruffling through the drawers of the large oak desk in your self-claimed reading nook, digging out a small pouch and scurrying back to a very confused male. “What are you doing?” he asked, assessing the pouch in your hands with his arms crossed over his broad, muscular chest.
“Give me your hands,” you demanded playfully, reaching out with one hand and holding your supplies behind your back with the other. Concern and confusion sparked in those golden-hazel eyes. Azriel reluctantly uncrossed his arms and placed his hands in yours, palms facing up.
You flipped his right hand over and got to work—carefully trimming down the rough, dry cuticles, cleaning the flaking specks of blood from around and underneath his nails, and filing them down.
Nausea roiled against your gut as your mind flipped through the faces of Illyrians you met in the past, wondering whose blood Azriel had to scrub off before coming home.
You swallowed down the thought and worked silently, fully aware of his gaze fixed on you.
After cleaning up both hands, a flicker of your magic summoned a hot towel, steaming with eucalyptus and mint oil. Azriel didn’t say a word as you wrapped his massive hands in the towel, squeezing them together. You took a corner and gently cleaned his nails and fingers before finally pulling out a small bottle of lavender lotion, massaging his hands with your nimble, skilled fingers.
“All done,” you declared with a broad smile and tilt of your head, pleased with your work.
But as you looked up at his unreadable expression, a knot formed in your stomach and a sudden heaviness crushed against your chest. Had you overstepped?
You held your breath as Azriel studied his fingers, flexing and contracting his hands in the deep orange glow of the dimming fire.
Cool relief washed over you when he finally whispered, “Thank you.”
He grabbed your hands and placed a sweet, tender kiss on the back of each, hesitating for a beat to assess your reaction before pulling you in for a hug. You had never seen such a display of affection from the Spymaster, but knew that deep down, he craved this kind of love and intimacy. You wrapped yourself around him, hoping he would finally see what you saw in him—his beauty that shined through even the darkest of his shadows.
“Thank you,” he whispered again against your neck.
He pulled back but didn’t let go of your hands, his shadows now enveloping you both as the rest of the Library faded away into velvety darkness.
“Let’s go,” he said, standing up tall with his magnificent wings spread proudly behind him, reaching an arm out for you.
“Where?” you asked as you stood, realizing you would follow the beautiful male to the ends of the world if it meant you could make him feel even an ounce of the love you had for him.
“Anywhere.” Azriel pulled you into him for another warm embrace. “I can’t waste a fresh manicure,” he teased with a wink.
Surprise and delight bubbled up inside you. “It’s a date,” you chimed, wrapping your arms around his neck and planting a soft kiss on his cheek.
“It’s a date,” he laughed, echoing your words as he scooped you up with his beautiful, strong hands.

in the air (xiao x reader)
Tumblr media
7.3k words. mentions of rock climbing and chinese traditional medicine. pining. fluff. first time writing in genshin impact for xiao so idk how in character this is. probs errors bc this is unedited like my lyfe lol. also xiao takes 1k words to show up hehe
“Delivery for Bubu Pharmacy,” you dump all your packages on the counter, finally able to see in front of you once again. The walk from Qingce Village to Liyue Harbor was long, made longer by the various dried herbs and distilled oils you had to carry.
“Ah, our lovely botanist,” Herbalist Gui grabs a letter opener, already sorting through the parcels. Silk flowers, glaze lilies, fresh lotus root, ginseng root, and the rest of the raw ingredients a pharmacy needed. “No violetgrass? Or qingxin flowers?”
You slip behind the counter, taking a seat on the stool Qiqi used to reach. You’d need the stool too in order to get the very top shelf ingredients. Maybe you weren’t a pharmacists, you think as you read the labels for ingredients as rare as sakura blooms imported from abroad to condensed ginger, but you could probably fix a cold.
Botany wasn’t your dream growing up, but your family’s business. The house you’d grown up in was tiny compared to the greenhouse full of silk flowers, to the pear trees and lotus growing in flooded terraces. You liked the job. You liked getting to see all of Liyue. You loved the smell of drying cinnamon and seeing a plant perk up once you gave it some compost.
“Not yet,” you admit, “with the rains last week I couldn’t exactly get to Huaguang Stone Forest.” Your favorite part of this job was getting to climb up the towering peaks. You loved rock climbing. You loved the cool wind on your skin after ascending, looking down and knowing you’d done this. You loved the solitude, the quiet and peace. You fell in love with the alien perspective of being up so high.
“Be careful out there,” Herbalist Gui says, a crease forming between his brows, “isn’t full of hilichurls and demons?”
“I am careful,” you massage your calves, “pretty sure a lawachurl could break me in half.” It ate at your time, having to go around treasure hoarders and hilichurls, unsure if they’d let you pass freely or not. There was no way you’d risk a run-in with fatui skirmishers that far from the Millelith’s sight.
So you hid behind bushes and trees, going around and losing hours.
“And the demons? You ever actually seen one?”
You laugh. “No, thank the Archons.” You didn’t want to test how effective exorcist charms were against demons. Chongyun had carved one out of wood for you to keep you from being possessed, while Hu Tao’s last present had been a jade sigil to tells ghosts you were a friend. You were concerned about its effects but Hu Tao always had good intentions despite her questionable methods.
You trusted her.
And there was no way you were going to disparage one of your childhood friends to her face. Some people had no tack.
You couldn’t imagine calling someone a weirdo even if it was true. Especially in a mean spirited way.
“That’s good.”
“Tell Baizhu I’ll be back in two days ,” you tell the pharmacist.
“That fast?”
You smile, “yeah. I’ll come back here then head home.” It’d mean only having one day to lazy about at home before hitting the road again, but like Hu Tao you valued the reputation of your business too much to delay the order of violetgrass and qingxi flowers to next week.
“Okay, I’ll be sure to let Baizhu know.”
“You’re the best.”
“Do you want some tea before you go,” Herbalist Bui asks, “it’s got jueyun chilis, good for all that running around you do.”
“Of course you don’t have regular jasmine tea?” This was a pharmacy. You accept it all the same, grateful for the warmth of the tea quenching your thirst. Maybe you wouldn’t be dead on your feet when you ascend tomorrow.
___
You camp at the south of Caijue Slope.
Travelling at night wasn’t a bright idea if you didn’t have a vision. Something you most definitely didn’t.
You’d always dreamed of a geo vision, though without Rex Lapis who knows if there would be any new geo visions. When you’d started bouldering around Mingyun Village, learning to identify fungi and flowers with your father, you could only ever imagine a geo vision.
It would be mad useful.
You wouldn’t need to carry ropes and anchors if you could just form your own anchors and climbing forms out of the very rock you ascended.
Passing through Jueyun Karst let you know waiting had been the right choice.
The mud clumps to the soles of your boots. When you step on the road, your feet sink. There’s little to no treasure hoarders or fatui to be seen. It must’ve been awful the day after the rains and near impassable with the rain. The towering mountains made the roads down below prone to flash flooding.
You have to stop and scrape the mud off your boots on rocks every few steps until finally you start the road up to Qingyun Peak. You barely even need to check your worn map.
Your family has been in the botany business for generations. You know where the clusters of Violetgrass and Qingxin spring up. Between here and Mingyun Village, you gather enough of both to fulfil Verr Goldet and Baizhu’s orders.
It takes the entire morning to ascend up the northernmost pillar of Huaguang Stone Forest, sitting on the edge as you Mint Salad and mora meat. It’s not as good when the food’s cold, but there’s nothing better than the food you eat after a long climb. Sweat runs down your spine as you look over Liyue. You can make out the Jade Chamber in the sky over Liyue Harbor. This must be what the adepti, what Rex Lapis, saw every day.
After Bubu Pharmacy you’d deliver to Wangshu Inn, then home. Then you’d collapse in bed before starting all over again.
You run your fingers over the petals of the qingxin flower. This one could stay. It was too small, the majority of the buds still closed.
The zenith of the sun has passed when you finally start to descend.
You hook your safety rope into the anchors you’d placed on the way up.
One of these days you’d buy yourself a Monstadt glider.
As you go, you remove the anchors, releasing the expansion clamps and slipping it into your bag, before descending the next metre.
You hook your safety rope into the next anchor. Then descend another metre. Carefully. Taking your time.
Pebbles fall past you.
It feels like the entire world rumbles.
You look out into the landscape, into the fog you can barely make out the other stone pillars, but even the fog cannot obscure the flashes of green anemo bursts in the skies.
Shit.
You glance up. It was a good twenty metres to the peak. You look down. It wasn’t any better.
It was worse.
A good thousand metres up. 800 from where you’d started climbing from the top of the road.
The flashes of anemo grew closer.
More pebbles fell, clinking against your shoulder. Dirt dislodged and fell in your hair.
You were stuck.
Your hands grew sweaty.
If it had been raining you could make it up free handed. Waited it out. Rain usually built up. This stone forest had no ledges to seek shelter on.
Fuck.
Flashes of green interspersed with flashes of red and blue.
Dread.
You look around, trying to find anything to perch on.
Okay, okay. Let yourself fall onto the ledge 30 metres below. No-
Not survivable.
Your hands grow slick with sweat as figures emerge out of the fog.
Dark figures. Demons. Monsters.
Your grip slips.
You flail, trying to catch yourself.
Fuck.
You slam into the side of the cliff, dangling by your safety rope over a thousand metres in the air. Pain explodes across your thigh.
Your fingers are bleeding where you’d tried to grab a rock.
The figures are closer now. Across from you fighting in the air, floating. Abyss mages and a fighter. You couldn’t tell.
And you couldn’t waste time watching.
You clip into the next anchor, attaching your safety rope. There was no time to climb up for the other rope and anchor.
You cut your loses.
Okay, move.
You scramble down, not wanting to get caught in the crossfire.
There’s an extra safety rope in your bag, you climb another metre down. And another one.
The sound of fighting is still too close, approaching, you hear the laughter of the abyss mages, the clash of steel against abyssal magic. You don’t look, chest heaving as you try to climb down in minutes what would normally take hours.
You inhale sharply, the dirt from the rocks mixing with the blood on your fingers. You slice your fingers on the ledges but keep going.
It doesn’t matter.
You have to keep going.
And then nothing matters.
Ice explodes against your back.
A chill spreads from the spot, your muscles tense and freeze and you can’t move. You can’t move your fingers. You can’t-
You look up.
The abyss mage is looking at you, laughing behind it’s terrible mask, a mockery of Opera makeup, as you fall.
It’s why the spear that jut out of it’s chest catches it off guard.
But what does that matter?
You’re falling, falling…
The figures disappear from your vision.
—-
You scream.
You’re so cold.
You can’t even flail as you plunge to your death.
You’ve never been so cold.
The fog dissipates as you approach the ground.
Your vision explodes in emerald and black. “Hgh,” a hand grips your wrist.
Thunk.
You smash onto the ground.
Only you’re still alive.
“Hold still,” a gruff voice says near your ear.
What!
You kick, blinking the tears, blinking away the terror from your eyes, “let me go!” You were alive. YOU WERE ALIVE!
And tangled on the ground with a strange masked man.
Vexation is clear in his tone as he repeats, “hold still.”
You roll off him, wincing. Everything hurt. You side ached. Nothing was broken. You could tell you’d be bruised black and blue for the next week. “Thank you,” you huff, connecting the dots even as your vision grew white with pain. Your fingers were still cramped from the cold. You could use jueyun chilis right now.
Thank the Archons you still had your bag. Crushed flowers were better than no flowers.
“Mortals should not be in Jueyun Karst.” The man still wears a mask carved of blackened wood. It matches the black of his gloves. A vision is strapped to his wrist.
Not a man at all.
You breathe, forcing down the pain.
You couldn’t do anything about it until you were safe. Not out here. Not out in the open.
You look around.
You weren’t in Jueyun Karst anymore. This was the road east to Guili Plains.
“I have permission,” you tell the adepti, “I can show you the sigil of permission.”
He says nothing, crouching in front of you like an overgrown bird. The mask is still on.
Despite that you’re not scared.
The sigil feels strange. It feels akin to resting your back against the statues of Morax.
“See,” you tell him. You weren’t lying. It was the same sigil your family had used for generations. Your grandmother said Moon Carver had gifted it when the Qixing closed passage into Jueyun Karst. “Master Adepti? Sir?…” You weren’t sure of the proper way of addressing an Adepti.
His eyes travel from your sigil to you. There’s mirth in his cor lapis eyes.
The mask.
The fighting.
He wasn’t just any adepti.
You lean forward, “you’re the vigilant yaksha,” you raise your hand, forgetting yourself for a moment as you move to touch his mask only that might get you struck down for disrespecting an adepti’s pride. All the adepti had strange rules about what was permissible. “I don’t know about you adepti, but it’s kinda rude for you to keep your mask on for so long.” It felt like he had something to hide.
“You presume to order an adepti?”
You crack a grin, “I couldn’t make you do anything.” You shift, trying to get up. You need to get to Wangshu Inn before night.
“Fuck,” you hiss. Right. You were all banged up.
The yaksha moves swiftly, steadying her. “You’re hurt.”
“I am,” you wince. “Just bruises.”
“Why were you in Jueyun Karst.” His tone drips with disapproval.
“For qingxi flowers. Violetgrass. Pharmacists need it.” You laugh. “Ironic right?”
He’s still holding you up, his hands on your arms, gentle despite the destruction he just caused in the stone forest. You want to see his face. You want to thank him without any barriers.
He must be handsome, you think to yourself. You know he is.
“Can you not grow them in Liyue Harbor?”
You shake your head, “they only grow at high altitudes. They prefer rocks to soil. I think there’s something in the rocks, some mineral. We’ve tried to grow them in Qingce Village but they didn’t take.”
His eyes study you once more, “your hands are bleeding.”
“It’ll be fine,” you tell him, “some balm. Baizhu deals with worse all the time.” At least the cold wore off.
“Where should I leave you?”
The words are unexpected. He’d saved you, but he wasn’t exactly friendly and warm. The Yaksha was quiet and reserved.
He’d stayed to make sure you were okay.
“Liyue Harbor,” you say tentatively, “though if that’s too far…”
“Heh,” the Yaksha rolls his eyes, scoffing.
“If it’s out of your way,” you amend, smiling, “I’m sure that it’s an easy distance for the Vigilant Yaksha to cover.”
He tilts his head.
You wonder what he thinks of you.
“I’m only joking,” you add when the silence streches out in case he missed your teasing. “But Liyue Harbor would be great if it’s not a bother.”
The Yaksha nods. “I offered.”
“You did.” He didn’t have to.
You try not to read into it too much. The adepti were all about protecting Liyue. You weren’t special.
Quite the opposite.
You’d been in Huaguang Stone Forest at the wrong time.
He finally lets go of your arms, only to pick you up bridal style.
“Ah!” You’re caught off guard, barely processing what is happening before the world disappears in black smoke.
You squeeze your eyes shut, as wind streaks through your hair, chilling your skin all over again.
In seconds, he’s already placing you back down, overlooking the Harbor.
“Wow, that was amazing!” What took you two days to travel, the Yaksha had done in seconds. You look over the Harbor, it’s lights slowly turning on as the sun sets over the water. It was a short walk to the Pharmacy. You’d be imposing on Hu Tao tonight.
She’d probably love the impromptu sleepover.
“Thanks again-,” you turn back to thank the Yaksha once more.
But you’re alone.
—-
“Jueyn chilis, qingxi flowers, and a boatload of mint and ginger,” you list off to Verr Goldet. “Hey, do you sell incense sticks?”
Verr’s eyes widened, “what happened to you my dear?”
Your hands were still all bandaged up, but as you suspected, it was pretty much all bruising. Still, you’d be sticking to Mingyun Village and Wuwang Hill until you were given the all clear by Baizhu. It was good to let the usual spots grow wild in the meantime.
You didn’t want to overpick any one spot.
“Nasty fall,” you also didn’t want to worry the Innkeeper unnecessarily. “I’m mostly bummed out. I have to go back for most of my anchors.” Stupid abyss mage.
“Well,” Verr Goldet hands you an incense stick, “this one’s on the house. Since you’re always on time. I’m glad you’re okay.”
“Are you sure,” you ask, already reaching for your mora bag.
“Listen to your elders and take the incense stick.”
“Thank you.” You bow respectfully to the woman, “this is so kind of you.”
“I know you would show me the same kindness.” She bows back. “Make sure you rest and rest before heading off.”
“Of course,” you grin, “you’re the only place that sells mushroom pizza in Liyue.” You could get honey roast and radish veggie soup at a street vendor in the Harbor but not pizza.
With your own mora you purchase healing balm. The Yaksha would appreciate this. You think. It made sense. He probably fought demons and monsters all the time.
He could use this when he got hurt.
You think.
You don’t know much about adepti.
“I think that’s a marvellous idea!” Hu Tao practically dances in delight when you tell her your plan.
“As a thanks,” you further explain. “It doesn’t feel right to just pray at a shrine.” You don’t even know his name.
“Ah,” she twirls in the street, running into a merchant
“Hey! Watch where you’re going weirdo!”
Hu Tao pays him no mind. “Obviously my charm worked.”
“What? No it didn’t,” you frown. The spirits had not been the problem. The abyss mages had nearly killed you.
But your friend is too busy with ideas to pay you any mind, “perhaps you need a noctilucous jade sigil to repel evil spirits?”
“That was an option,” you raise a brow. That seemed more useful.
“Most spirits aren’t bad silly,” she tells you, “very few become demons.”
“Can it at least be Cor Lapis,” you think about the Yaksha’s eyes again. You’d thought about the Yaksha a lot.
“No. That wouldn’t work for the carving. Hey, let’s get a drink before you go!”
You sit at the shrine in Mingyun Village. And it really was a village. Just two stores and a few houses. Most of the people here were fishermen, but you knew some lived off the shells and pearls that could be gathered on Yaoguang Shore.
The largest was inscribed to Rex Lapis. There were steles for Moon Carver, Mountain Shaper and the other adepti of legends. And a small one for the Yakshas, but there were no names for them.
You frown.
You set the jar of balm in front of you. Then you light the incense stick, unsure of what the proper prayers for a Yaksha were.
“Oh mighty vigilant Yaksha,” you cringe, closing your eyes, “scratch that. Um,” could adepti even hear your prayers? Could Rex Lapis answer prayers from the heavens? “Thanks again for saving me. Sorry if I got in the way or anything. I’m glad you keep those monsters aways from the Harbor and villages. And thank you for dropping me off in Liyue Harbor. That was incredibly kind of you. This balm is for you.”
There. That didn’t sound half bad.
Maybe you could still be a ritualist.
Change careers last minute.
You hear a snort.
You open your eyes.
In your peripheral, the Yaksha stands facing the shrines. His mask rests on his belt.
You were right, he is handsome.
Teal streaks through his dark hair. There’s a violet mark on his forehead and he’s handsome. His expression is inscrutable though his eyes remain kind despite what his demeanour would suggest.
He sits down next to you, watching the incense stick burn. The smoke wisps off in spirals.
“Thank you.”
“I heard.” His voice is not unkind.
You nod, “all the same.”
You breathe the rich aroma of the incense.
“You should always burn 3 sticks, or 5.”
“Sorry?” He doesn’t seem angry or upset. But you still feel the need to apologise. He was an adepti after all. The Yaksha did so much for Liyue already.
His eyes fall close. The last vestiges of wariness dissipate. “I do not need the balm.”
“Oh.” Your face falls. Stupid. You’d done nothing right. It would have been better to just leave things be.
You watch the smoke, biting your lip. He’d come all this way and you’d done everything wrong. You were embarrassed.
He probably had better things to do.
The Yaksha opens his eyes, turning towards you. He frowns.
He had such lovely eyes: black tea steeped perfectly. There was a warmth in them that had you dismissing all your negative thoughts. He wasn’t irritated with you at all. He’d chosen to come all this way for you even when you had things all wrong.
The Yaksha was strange, but kind.
Even as he held your gaze for an inhumane amount of time, unblinking, you felt comfortable the way you might with Chongyun.
You were right. He was handsome. The stories never mentioned that.
He parts his lips, brows furrowed, before looking away. He fixes his gaze on the steles again.
“Well, is there anything that you might like as thanks,” you finally settle on uttering, looking very pointedly at the bas relief of Morax. Heat rises to your cheeks. It was so silly. This was such a normal thing to do, thank someone and yet you grew flustered.
“Ah?” The Yaksha’s cheeks grow pink. “There is no need-I do not act in exchange for material gain.”
“I just want to thank you. If not for saving me then for taking me to the Harbor.” You bite your lip. “You can think of it as friends exchanging gifts.”
It’s the wrong thing to say.
The Yaksha stands suddenly, a swirl of anemo blowing your hair about. “I have duties to attend to.” And he’s gone.
Clearly, you and Hu Tao both failed at making friends.
A month passes, and you’ve made every effort to take your mind off the Yaksha. He was an adeptus. Two times you’d met him. That was more than most people ever interacted with adepti.
You weren’t part of the Qixing.
You were a simple botanist running around liyue.
You run your fingers over the new jade amulet from Hu Tao. You’d be okay.
Last time was a freak accident.
In two decades of life, last time had been the sole time you’d seen an abyss mage. Nothing would happen this time. You’d collect the herbs in Jueyun Karst as usual and be on your merry way.
Ascending is made easy by the anchors you left behind. You’re the one who takes baby steps, pausing with every push up to look around in case there’s some hilicurls aiming for you. You close your eyes, leaning your forehead against the rock. It was fine. You were fine.
Your hands had scarred over.
You refused to be afraid of going out in Liyue for the rest of your life.
You push onwards.
You check your safety line. You check each anchor.
You look around.
So far so good.
It’s only when you break past the fog that you realise how uneventful the entire ascension has been. You’re worried sick about nothing.
You pull yourself onto the cliff top and collapse on your back, panting.
You laugh, at yourself, at the situation. At being so high up. You close your eyes and soak in the warmth of the sun, the heat of your body against the cool stone. Had Rex Lapis created this stone forest too? You’d have to ask Baizhu. He knew all the stories since he told them to Qiqi endlessly, not that the little girl ever remembered.
She’s been a child for as long as you could remember.
Lunch is cold jade parcels and leftover fried radish balls which are never as good cold. Nothing fried was ever as good cold.
You pluck the qingxi flowers first, bunching them up in your bag. The violetgrass was easier since you collected those on your way up.
You take another drink of water from your flask, looking over the landscape. Jueyun Karst was so beautiful. You forgot how dangerous the area was.
The plan was to head north and swim across the waters to Qingce Village, swim home. You’d have to camp out on the isles, but it was safer than staying in the stone forest overnight or trying to swim in the frigid night.
You take a nap, waiting for midday to pass before you start your descent.
You pull the last anchor free when a voice startles you.
“What are you doing here?”
“Ah,” you weld the anchor like a knife in the air before you recognize the Yaksha’s distinctive purple pants and green tattoo. “Fuck,” you place a hnd on your chest, “you scared me.”
“I did not mean-,” he frowns, “why are you here?”
You point up, “have a job to do. Qingxi, violetgrass. I’m just happy everything else can be cultivated.”
The Yaksha’s frown deepens.
“I have a job to do. It has its risks but medicine must be supplied.”
He nods, but remains sullen.
“Anyways I’m all done here.” You wipe your hands on your robes, “and relax. I waited until I was done healing, see,” you hold up your palms. With coconut oil the scarring would fade.
The Yaksha steps close to you, taking your hands in his and looking them over. He runs a finger over your darkest scar. There were specks of gold in his eyes. The mark on his forehead glowed.
He looked up through long teal lashes at you when he was done accessing your hands.
Your mouth is dry. It’s hard to meet his heavy gaze. It feels like falling all over again.
There’s no way he misses the flush on your cheeks that has nothing to do with climbing and everything to do with the way his touch renders you breathless.
“I will escort you through Jueyun Karst.”
“Oh,” your eyes widened in surprise. “You don’t have to,” you brush your hair behind your ears. No matter what you did climbing made your hair a rat’s nest. “I’m sure your very busy with your adeptus duties.”
“Tt.” He releases your hands. “It is not up for discussion.”
“Vigilant Yaksha,” you have to insist, “I have an amulet to keep the monsters away. And I’ll just be back next week…I don’t want to be a bother. Really. I’ll be okay.”
He tilts his head, “what amulet?”
You lift the necklace up, “it’s from my friend. She knows more about ghosts but I-”
The Yaksha closes the distance between you. He scrutinises the sigil, his breath ghosting over your cheek. “There is a limit to the accumulation of evil spirits and demons an amulet can repel.”
“But it does work?”
He nods.
You can’t stand being this close to him while he is seemingly unaffected. Your heart is lodged in your throat but his expression remains as guarded as ever.
It was silly to even think about an adeptus like this.
A smaller, crazier voice that sounded a lot like Hu Tao points out that half adepti like Ganyu exist for a reason.
You avert your gaze, stepping back. “So you see, you don’t have to-”
He cuts you off. “It is not up for discussion.”
You nod, accepting he would do why he thought was right even if it did make you feel like you were bothering him. (He wasn’t even angry or bothered.)
The Yaksha was kind in his stilted way.
“I’m headed north to Qingce Village.” You pocket the last anchor and drink more water before embarking on the road home.
“Xiao.”
“Hm?”
“My name is Xiao.”
You fall into a pattern. Buy 3 incense sticks from Verr Goldet, burn them for the Yakshas. Deliver to Wangshu Inn and Bubu Pharmacy once a week. Collect Herbs from Mingyun Village and Jueyen Karst once a week. See Xiao in Jueyun Karst.
A rough pattern because Xiao came and went without notice. Sometimes he’d be waiting for you at Cuijue Slope until he began to climb up a mountain. At times he wouldn’t appear until you’d finished descending.
You made the lion’s share of conversation, complaining that Chongyun was in Mondstat to deal with some apparition and therefore was getting to eat all the tea pancakes in the world. You told Xiao about flu season and how much ginger Baizhu went through. You complained about having to dilute soap in water to keep pests away from your family’s crops.
“-I’ll need new boots when the caravan from Sumeru stops by,” you take a break on a rock to catch your breath. You’d never seen Xiao tire.
The soles of your boots were worn down. You could feel the rocks poke at your heels through the leather.
You let the silence reign in the picturesque valley.
Xiao doesn’t sit, but he closes his eyes as the sun chases away the clouds. You soaked up the warmth. The sun’s rays made the chilly breeze bearable.
He leans his head back, basking in the sun like a lizard.
You wonder what his animal form looks like. You’d only seen Rex Lapis on the Rite of Descension. But everyone knew Mountain Carver was a magnificent stag.
With his eyes closed, you find yourself staring at his visage shamelessly. He was striking, the graphic cut of his hair only accentuating his bone structure.
You wanted him to hold you again. You wanted him to run his hands over yours, to-
You quash the thoughts down.
Xiao opens his eyes, polearm already in hand as he spots something in the distance. “Wait here.”
You nod, used to this by now.
It was never a long wait, but Xiao would step away for minutes to deal with threats to Liyue.
You are glad to rest for a while longer.
“Why don’t you just tell him,” Chongyun splits a milk tea shaved ice with you, “how you feel,” he scoops up a brown sugar boba with his spoonful of shaved ice.
“Are you crazy? What if I make things awkward? Then he’ll never speak to me again! That would be so much worse.” You didn’t want to lose Xiao’s friendship.
You eat another spoonful of shaved ice, making sure to get some of the mochi, managing to look incredibly dejected while eating dessert.
Chongyun sighs. “You can’t complain and not do anything about it.”
You stick your tongue out at him. “I’m not taking advice from someone who can’t even order.”
“So? I’m proactive about it,” his voice cracks. “I ask you, or someone I’m with to order.”
You pat his hand, knowing it wasn’t fair to take your crush out on him. It wasn’t his fault Xiao made you want to kiss him everytime he tilted his head to indicate he was listening to you, or confused. It wasn’t Chongyun’s fault Xiao went still, buff arms flexing right before he took off to fight.
Archons, you were down bad for the Yaksha.
You couldn’t even enjoy your shaved ice.
“What’s your adeptal animal form,” you asks Xiao, breaking the serene silence atop Qingyun Peak. “You don’t have to answer that if it’s rude.”
He wouldn’t answer if he didn’t want to either way.
You no longer found it rude when he stayed silent. Xiao meant what he said, and therefore took more time to speak, and didn’t answer at all when he didn’t think his words added to the conversation. The more time you spent with him, the easier you were able to read him.
It wasn’t so much that he was an unfeeling adeptus, but rather he was usually occupied with hunting demons. He falters when he knows you’re joking but cannot understand the joke. His eyes widen when you hand him dried chrysanthemums for protection. It was a peasant superstition, but the idea of Xiao fighting alone weighed you down if you contemplated it for too long.
He sits down next to you, feet dangling over the edge. “A Peng.”
“Huh.” You vaguely recalled a giant bird story, but Adepti were usually giant animals that saved Liyue at some point.
“Similar to this,” Xiao points at his tattoo. The bright colour shines against his pale skin. He never sunburns unlike you.
You study the depiction closely. You brush your fingers against his skin, tracing the lines of the tattoo.
Xiao shivers under your touch, his eyes flutter closed.
“Are there more?”
“Yes.” His voice is distant, in the world of the adepti you couldn never understand. “They do not immerse themselves in mortal affairs.” Xiao turns his gaze towards you, the naked emotion in his eyes draws you in. You cup his cheek with your hand before you think better of it.
He leans into your touch. “Seldomly do they take a mortal appearance.”
“Would you ever show me?” You knew he’d be beautiful. It was Xiao, you’d love him in every shape and form.
He pulls away, jerking away from you.
You let him, drawing back, giving him space.
Xiao clenches his gaze, cor lapis eyes on you. His mouth parts, but he thinks better of it, wavering between thoughts. He finally looks away.
“Xiao? You don’t have to.” You remind him. You think he might disappear like smoke in the air. “Xiao?”
“It is not safe for you.”
“Huh?” You don’t follow. “There’s no hilichurls up here.”
“My karmic debt…I could not forgive myself if I tainted you as well.”
You don’t understand. “I’m always safe with you.”
His shoulders tense, the Yaksha grows taunt as a bow string.
You reach out. “Xiao,” you utter softly, caressing his cheek with the back of your hand, “you would never hurt me.” Your belief in that is absolute. You had more than enough belief for the both of you.
He meets your searching gaze, eyes wide in surprise. There’s a glassy quality to their soft brown shade.
Tears.
You know he’ll leave seconds before Xiao disappears in flashes of green and black.
You burn three incense sticks at your makeshift camp. The delivery at Wangshu in had taken longer than you should’ve. Verr Goldet was dealing with a broken door or something to do with a guest, you weren’t sure of the details. There were travellers from Monstadt so your food order had taken an hour. Nothing that was anyone’s fault, but now you had to camp out in Guili Plains. It was too late to try and make it to the Millelith Outpost in Liyue Pass. It was by far your favourite place to purchase artisan presents for Lantern Rite and birthdays, before they got marked up in Liyue Harbor.
So now you’re stuck here until daybreak.
You go back and forth between lighting a fire. It’s warm this far inland, without the ocean breeze or mountain winds, but a fire might attract hilicurls or treasure hoarders.
But if you were lighting incense sticks, you might as well have a hot dinner.
You kneel, praying to Rex Lapis and all the adepti. You pray that Xiao is safe, wherever he is, whatever he’s fighting.
You pray that Xiao is safe from monsters and the weight of his karmic debt.
You manage to deliver to Liyue Harbor and gather herbs in Qingxu Pool before heading back through Liyue Pass. Qingxu pool had more violetgrass than qingxu flowers but it was allergy season. Violetgrass was needed.
It wasn’t your favourite place to gather in, but these two herbs were the trickiest to find, loving spots out of the way, clumping in fours at best. You didn’t want to overpick and then lose a harvesting spot.
It’s sunset when you reach the Statue of Morax.
Your new boots were a mistake. You know there’s blisters on your ankles and soles. Breaking in leather sucked.
Your old boots left you with stinging pain whenever you stepped on any rock so there really wasn’t any winning.
Bowing your head at the statue, you say a little prayer to the geo archon. Morax. Rex Lapis. You’d made another successful trek. The god of contracts had built his nation in the most beautiful part of Teyvat. You could only hope to add to Liyue’s prosperity.
It’s hard to get back up, your muscles sore. Exhaustion always hit you in the last moments when rest is at hand. You were so close.
The people of Liyue pass were kind. They were always willing to host you for a night, forming a contract in exchange for something simple and silly like telling children a bedtime story or sweetflowers which were always abundant throughout Liyue. Uncle Liu generally wanted thunder god vine which was something you always carried.
You were happy to know you’d be fed and well rested tonight.
You hear the music, firecrackers going off in the dusk. The entire village was decorated in lanterns and colourful banners. A wedding!
Uncle Liu had many granddaughters of an age with you. Could one of them be getting married?
There would be roasted duck and lots of desserts like tofu pudding with red beans and almonds. Your mouth watered at the idea of fried fish and shrimp balls.
The folk music was carried by the wind.
It made the night take a magical quality to it. With the decorations and sky full of stars, it was a perfect backdrop to a celebration.
You smile, thinking of the silk flowers you could give the happy couple.
You look around. There’s pots of bamboo on the rock wall leading into the village proper.
The people are in reds and yellows, dancing and singing.
You grin, taking in the sight. You loved Liyue, you loved being from here and getting so many moments like this one. It wasn’t just Lantern Rite when the country was at its most beautiful.
You wonder if Xiao would go into Liyue Harbor with you for Lantern Rite. Hu Tao would talk his ear off but your heart fluttered at the idea of spending the festivities with him.
You’re so caught in your thoughts, they featured Xiao so often, that you nearly dismissed the Yaksha standing in the moonlight as a figment of your imagination.
You blink.
Xiao is still there, perched on a rock. It’s dark enough that no one would see him from the village, but his gaze is on the celebration.
You wonder why he doesn’t join in.
The Liu family was incredibly welcoming.
You make your way towards him instead, “Xiao?”
He jolts, standing up at once. “What is the matter?” There’s dried blood on his white shirt and dirt on his pants.
“Nothing,” you laugh lightly, “I’m always glad to see you.”
“Mm.” His gaze returns to the celebration.
You sit down next to him, sighing at the relief of being off your feet.
It’s nice: to listen to music with Xiao. While it’s not as energetic as Xinyan’s songs, there’s a beauty in the traditional wind and wood instruments. They were songs you’d known all your life.
“Are you alright?” You venture to ask. You’d never seen anything draw blood from Xiao.
“Mhm.” He nods. “The fight was long, but I persevered as I must to fulfil my sworn duty.”
You rest a hand on his shoulder, “so I don’t have to go get Baizhu then?” It was half a joke, half sincere worry.
“No.” Xiao shakes his head, “the statue of the Seven is all the healing I require.”
You nod, deciding to lay back against the rock. You were greedy for every minute you could spend with Xiao. Food, a warm bed, you could put those off for a while longer.
There was a tranquillity to just being besides Xiao.
Maybe Chongyun had been right. But the surge of panic that Xiao might vanish from your life kept you from saying anything about your feelings towards him.
Instead you reclined on the rock.
You release the hold on his shoulder, moving your hands to fiddle with the amulets around your neck. They were small fragile things, nothing compared to the adepti amulets Xiao wore.
He looks down at you, his expression tender in the starlight. You never tired of gazing at him, at the cut of his jaw and the light in his honeyed eyes. Unabashedly, you drink him in.
If he could look at you in such a way that had your heart palpitating despite not even touching you, then you could look at Xiao. You loved him.
He’d never so much as made a move to kiss you yet your heart was his. Every beat of your mortal heart belonged to the Vigilant Yaksha.
The music changes as a drumbeat joins the fray.
You close your eyes, stretching out like a cat. It felt nice. It was nice.
There was no pressure to make conversation.
Xiao brushes your hair out of your face. His hand lingers against your jawbone for a moment, too long to be a mistake.
You blink.
His mouth is parted in surprise at his own actions, he hunches in on himself, glancing back down at the party. He hugs his knees to his chest.
“You like music,” you ask.
“I do.”
Softly you offer, “we should go down there. Uncle Liu has always been kind to me and I always love an excuse to dance.”
Your words hang in the air.
You sit up, wrapping an arm around Xiao’s back lightly, unsure if he’d be okay with the action. You’re prepared for him to pull away immediately.
Instead, he replies, “I cannot endanger them for my own enjoyment.”
Your heart aches for him.
“I can listen from here.”
You squeeze his shoulders, “this is a great view,” you reply earnestly. There was no place else you’d rather be.
“I agree.” Xiao meets your gaze, brows drawn in thought.
He was so close you could see each individual eyelash of his. They were teal. Almost dark enough to be black at first glance.
You smile tenderly.
“I-,” he frowns at himself.
“What is it?”
Xiao cups your cheek with his hand. It’s the closest you’ve been since he saved your life and carried you to safety.
You swallow thickly, realising the love you felt for the man was mirrored in his eyes.
“Can I kiss you,” he asks in a hush whisper.
You don’t trust your voice. You nod, still not believing this was real, this was truly happening. Though you’d daydreamed that Xiao reciprocated your feelings, it had been more fantasy than a reality. You never believed it was possible.
But it was real.
The press of his lips against yours, Xiao’s breath warm on your skin, his thumb rubs your cheek. It was real. He kissed you with a softness you’d come to expect from the Yaksha.
He was a warrior; he moved through the world like a gentle breeze. His love for Liyue went further than a simple contract made long ago.
Xiao loved you.
Xiao kisses you softly and the moment is far too short.
He pulls back, tilting his head. Red dusts his cheeks, “I cannot say when I grew fond of you, but I have.” He lets out a sigh. “I wish to kiss you again?”
“I would very much like that,” you reply giddily, “I look forward to seeing you each week, and feel guilty when I don’t pass through Jueyun Karst.” You had to be mindful of how much you collected from any one spot.
“I would prefer that you did not go to Jueyun Karst,” Xiao admits, “but I selfishly enjoy your foolish ventures into Jueyun Karst.”
You laugh, full of love. You laugh knowing you are loved by the one you love.
You lean into him, kissing his cheek, “thank you for spending time with me.” You treasured every moment with him.
He nods, incredibly flustered.
So you kiss him again, granting his wish yourself.
His lips were slightly chapped. You hardly cared. He kisses you back clumsily. His hold on your cheek tightens, checking that you were solid, that you were kissing him.
You forget all about food and how tired you are. Your thoughts are full of Xiao.
Xiao caresses your cheek as you catch your breath.
You feel his heartbeat race from your hand on his back.
“Would you like to dance,” his voice was small.
You nod, beaming from delight. He liked you. He’d kissed you. Now he was asking to dance with you. Xiao, your Xiao.
“Yes.” Anywhere with Xiao was perfect.

⤷ female, ambiguous race, and any size reader. Requests are open, thank you for reading!
ᴹᵃˢᵗᵉʳˡᶤˢᵗ
SFW🌿
⭑ You never want for anything - Alice is always getting you what you want, even before you run out of it.
“If that’s what my honey wants, then that’s what she’s going to get.”
⭑ She had no reservations or worries when you told her about witchcraft. Alice is incredibly open-minded.
⭑ Alice is also very curious, so she asks about your craft a lot.
“Why do you leave water outside overnight?” “Is the full moon the most important?” “How did you get into witchcraft?” “What’s your favourite spell?”
⭑ She never did/does that obnoxious thing where she asks if you’ve “put a spell on her” or if you could do so.
⭑ She respects your craft and wants you to feel comfortable
⭑ You weren’t always so open with telling people that you’re a witch. Whether because of your family background, you’re fears of not living up to being a ‘true’ witch etc
⭑ But as you learn more, you feel more confident within yourself
⭑ Alice accompanies you when you go to metaphysical shops
⭑ And she LOVES crystals/gemstones. Her favourites are moonstone, rose quartz and blue lace agate.
⭑ If you forget to do something like put out moon water or charge your pendants, she’ll do it for you
⭑ If you’re a witch that follows a deity, then she will respect your altar and beliefs.
⭑ She adores all you knick-knacks and is constantly adding them to the house decor.
⭑ Alice would go into witchcore HARD. I mean she would decorate the home like it; pick outfits for you and her. She would
⭑ I think she was probably a bit confused when she saw you in her visions. Usually, a vampire has another vampire mate - but that was before she understood witchcraft.
⭑ Like vampires and werewolves, witches exist in this world as another entity. Once mated, the witch stops aging as well.
⭑ There’s a specific mating ritual that a witch and vampire will have to perform to complete the age-stop.
⭑ And when Alice told you she was your mate, the very first time she met you - you believed her.
⭑ Your song is ‘Sweet Carolina,’ by Lana Del Rey. And even though it isn’t a love song for a lover, it captures your relationship to a t.
⭑ Alice has put sun-catchers on every window so there are rainbows in every room. You absolutely love it
⭑ I kinda think Alice would slowly want to become a witch as well? She’d find that practicing gives her enjoyment and she wants to keep on learning
⭑ You have an abundance of books - especially the originals of a lot of witch books. The journals of Jean-Baptise Alliette, who created the first tarot cards
⭑ You have every type of herb there is - all you said to Alice (one time, I repeat you said this ONE TIME) that you needed a few herbs and she took that information AND RAN.
⭑ She got you cinnamon, all-spice, st john’s wort, mugwort, frankincense, dandelion, angelica, bay leaves, dried rose petals, jasmine, rosemary, thyme, basil, etc I mean she came back with BOXES AND BOXES of herbs, flowers, ingredients, like ...  it was a great day honestly
⭑ Alice does your laundry, out of love but mostly because you don’t treat your clothes like she does. In the sense that you’ll just chuck everything in the wash and hope for the best - but Alice separates everything, hand washes, etc.
   “Y/n that is SILK!”
⭑ She knows you can protect yourself, especially with all the amulets, and protection spells - but she never wants you to come to harm.
⭑ You love watching her in the sun because she sparkles and you go absolutely nUTS
“ALICE YOU LOOK SO GORGEOUS OH MY GOD”
⭑ Your house has a lot of things that twinkle and glint, it’s very pretty
⭑ You give Alice protection pendants and she takes them, but only because she likes that you care about her so much. Alice could rip someone’s head off before they have time to blink
⭑ Alice buys you journal upon journal upon journal. And they’re really pretty looking as well (hardback with gold detailing)
