Sorry to be a hater but this is how I’ve been feeling recently
#listen.#I love fluff#fluff is great#but does EVERY relationship have to be fluff and only fluff#I’ve noticed in the past that fandoms fandoms tend to#like#stray away from any conflict between characters they ship that doesn’t end in ‘omg you were right and I was so wrong 🥺’#‘no I was wrong and I’m so sorry 😖😖😖’#‘okay let’s agree to never fight again and be healthy and happy forever 🥹’#and I’m more into complex not quite a perfect fit relationships right now#ones where they struggle to stay together#or where they both like each other but don’t get together for reasons OTHER than miscommunication#ones where they know they love each other but there’s obstacles#or where they’re both abusive shits#or where they’re both shitty people and they fit like a glove#I want more than just ‘luv you bby’ ‘awww me too’ ‘let’s go pet puppies together’#like sometimes I find two characters and I’m like ‘YES! something refreshing! let me find more content’#only to find all the fandom flanderized the characters#especially with the more toxic ones#it’s like. they’re shitty people but the fandom can’t explore that so they just remove everything that made them interesting#and its like ‘…why are you using *these* characters to do this?’#there’s every other character in the world to be sweet and cutesy#I’m hyperfixate on *this* dynamic#not the same dynamic every other relationship before it had#it’s like copy paste characterization regardless of if it makes sense#anyway#sorry for being a bitch about this but whatever :/#personal post

Loved reading your deep dive on sexism in atla and your breakdown of sokka and gender roles. was wondering if you have any posts on your thoughts about katara and aang's relationship/growing affections in the show. and what it means for them as individual characters, but also in the grand scheme and overall message of the show. you're so eloquent and introspective, I would really love to hear your thoughts, if you wanted to share.
thanks! i’m not sure whether you want me to analyze their relationship through a specific framework or focus on anything in particular, so i guess i’ll just generalize here.
symbolically and thematically, aang and katara’s relationship is the heart of the show, and therefore it makes perfect sense that it concludes with their embrace. katara and aang are equal protagonists in my opinion; while aang is the titular character, katara is the narrator, and their respective roles are so informed by each other that they could not exist separately. aang is the last airbender, katara is the last waterbender, and they each come together as genocide survivors to give each other the necessary hope to resist and work towards toppling the imperialist regime that has persecuted and subjugated their peoples.
their relationship is incredibly profound, one of faith, trust, deep friendship, and inexorable hope. they embody the show’s principal themes both as individuals and as a duo. “love is brightest in the dark” really summarizes it best. in absolutely abject, miserable, hopeless conditions, they find true friendship and unconditional love and support in the other, and it allows them to achieve more than anyone around them ever thought possible. but they knew, because they never lost that unwavering faith in each other.
aang was katara’s first true friend, and they are best friends in every sense of the word. katara yells at aang exactly once (in “the waterbending scroll”), and immediately apologizes for it. this is unusual for her, and a testament to her affection for him that so surpasses her feelings for literally anyone else (she never once apologizes for moments wherein she said far harsher things to sokka or toph, for example). aang thinks katara is perfect and beyond reproach, and vice versa. the admiration and love they have for each other is not only very sweet, but also crucial to the show’s entire framework.
and yet…..i don’t really care for their romance. it’s not that i don’t understand its thematic significance (obviously i do), but i think it’s just framed kind of…awkwardly? it doesn’t really land for me. there’s something kind of puerile in the way katara is framed through aang’s gaze that almost trivializes and negates the significance of their friendship to me.
i’m not against their romantic potential point blank, and have said in the past that i think it would make sense for them to date at some point as teenagers, but the way their romance was navigated throughout the show never quite sat right with me. i mean, for one thing, they are babies. but i also just can’t help feeling like their cutesy tween romance undermines the sheer depth of their relationship. while their relationship as a whole is quite literally painted on a cosmic scale, their awkward moments of “aaah i have a crush on my best friend!!!” kind of jar with that. and it doesn’t have to per se; i like that they’re portrayed as goofy kids who also carry the world on their shoulders. but it just kind of does.
i think that writing romance is one of atla’s major weak points, and i really only find sokka’s relationships to land successfully as pure romance in itself. but one of the major strong points of the show’s writing is also how it depicts friendships and familial relationships, and in that domain, aang and katara are centrally, thematically crucial and profound and beautiful. so yes, it makes perfect sense that the show concludes with them embracing against a sunset, finally allowed to rest. but i cannot help but wonder whether it should have ended solely with the hug, and allowed the kiss to remain implied.

i have just a little request if you dont mind, we have fem idia enjoyer of woman and yuri manga (the cutesy slice of life ones like failed princess, monolouge woven for you, whisper me a love song ((just somethin sweet ya know)) and idia is hopelessly pining for the main girl type, ortho being the best little sister invites us over and idk just a little idea 4 u
"𝙈𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙂𝙞𝙧𝙡 𝘼𝙪𝙧𝙖!"
✦ Content – Idia being a simp, Ortho being a sweetheart, kinda did a reverse isekai plot here, Idia is Shen Yuan (From Scum Villain) coded, reader came from a world where technology isn't all that advanced, Reader has a personality, reader is gn but reader being feminine was in mind while writing.
Author's Note: Waaa, I had so much fun playing with this idea anon. Thank you for sending this in! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ It's not exactly like the request so I apologize for that. But! I absolutely support Fem!Idia yuri enjoyer, I am one as well after all (With a side of bl fan in there but shhhh)
Tumblr media
Idia was many things, a loner, a genius with wasted talent, a weirdo, a curse. But she could care less about those, what do they know about her anyway? It's not like half of those people who talked behind her back actually talked to her. But if there was one thing she could proudly call herself, it would be that she's an avid yuri fan. Slice of life? Fantasy? Mystery? Yandere? She'll read it as long as it's yuri! (And if it has at least a decent plot, otherwise she'd either simply throw it out or start hating in the reviews if she absolutely despised it.)
The lighthearted and giddy feeling she gets in her chest every time she reads is something she just can't get enough of. But once she finishes the absolute masterpieces of the genre, she only has the leftover scraps left to read. Some of them aren't that bad, she could bear reading through with it and some of them even got her hooked. But some others were absolute trash. With nothing but fetishization and not even a pinch of genuine affection between the main couple.
By that time Idia almost debated leaving the genre altogether but decided to just wait. Wait for something good to actually come by, wait for an astounding masterpiece that could even make her slack jawed, wait for some of her few favorites to update, and so she did.
She waited, and waited, and waited. Until finally, a new manga had just released, taking the whole genre by storm. And as a connoisseur of yuri manga, how could she pass up this opportunity? Especially when she'd been waiting for so long. Besides, most of the reviews are fairly positive and by first impression it doesn't seem like some trashy manga that uses all the clichés and most popular tropes of the book. Unlike some that Idia had read. So she trusts that it will be a worthwhile read.
And worthwhile it was, Idia was absolutely hooked. It wouldn't be an understatement to say that this was a masterpiece. The plot? The setting? The tropes? and most importantly, the characters. (Did she mention the characters yet?) were all meticulously woven together into the perfect web to catch any unsuspecting readers into it's trap. Idia is no exception. But seriously, it's amazing. Even if it just released, it was already manga of the year in her heart. In fact, it should be the manga of the year in everyone's heart!
But you especially have taken her heart, kicking off any and all candidates that could have taken your place. Sitting beautifully in the throne of her heart. You were the main girl of the story, kind, pretty, and clever but didn't take anyone's shit for nothing. Your character was the exact one that Idia favors the most, so it was inevitable that you became her first and only favorite above the rest. Idia gathered anything she could get about you, analyzing your character under a microscope. Memorizing every small detail, no matter how insignificant. This also applies to your character arcs and relationships, causing her to make lengthy essays about it in the comments without fail.
Other times, when the author decides to shove tragedy onto you that she believes is far too much Idia would instantly go into a bout of outrage, her hair turning into a raging sea of red. The scale of her rage is clear to see if one were to read the scathing comment she had left. Don't they know that it's far to early? Your character isn't developed enough for this! She'd argue.
But usually, she would have calmed down in the following chapters. It's almost as if the author read her comments and decided to give you reprieve and a few wholesome moments in between as a peace offering. But that's most likely her imagination coming up with wild ideas on miniscule chances.
Months pass by, and before she knew it, it was already the final chapter of the manga. The manga she had spent hours mulling over, the manga that she collected a whole stock of merch for, the manga where she felt more than she usually does in real life, the manga you were in.
Idia stares at her screen, unblinking. The bold text of the final lines of the chapter staring back at her, the light of the screen almost painful as it illuminates the darkness of her room. Casting shadows along her face, making her look even more gloomy than she is. She doesn't know what is it exactly that she feels, it's like her heart feels full but at the same time has holes that leak out, causing a void of emptiness along with the full feeling.
It's strange, is this what it feels like when you get too attached to a piece of fiction? Idia wouldn't really know, she didn't get attached to much things in the first place anyway. But, she doesn't know what to think about it. It doesn't feel all that good, but it isn't all that bad either. Idia groans, burying her head into her hands.
Ugh, why does emotions have to be so damn difficult?
Tumblr media
Idia can't believe this is happening. But the fact that you, in all your glory and grace, are right here, in her room, and gazing back at her is undeniable. Idia seriously questions if this was truly reality and she wasn't being delusional after so long of not having sleep and not eating properly. Which would have been the most logical explanation if you didn't look so real and lifelike. Especially when you stand there as depicted, eyes shining the same way it was drawn, actually breathing and are not just lines on paper.
When you quietly call out to her in confusion, Idia swears she'll see Hades in the next second because your voice is exactly as she imagined it-
"Uh hello? May I please know where I am?" You ask, slightly waving your hand in front of the strange girl's face – her hair being one of unusual blue flames that you've never seen before. The strange girl only jumps in response, letting out a surprised squeak. Scrambling to hide behind...a chair..? At least you think it's a chair.
The timid type huh, you can work with that. You put your hand back on your side, deciding to take a different approach so as to not frighten the poor girl more. Tentative, you leaned down to her level, purposely making your voice sound more soft and coaxing than usual, "Sorry about that, I'm kinda lost and it would really help me out if you could answer my questions, yeah?" The girls stares at you dumbly for a while, but your expression doesn't falter and eventually, she nods.
Tumblr media
Another world? Manga character? currently in reality???? The revelation that the life you've lived was all a fabrication made from someone else's desires is a very hard pill to swallow. A bitter laugh escapes you as the strange girl – who had introduced herself as Idia – finishes her explanation. "So, you're saying that for my whole life, I've been living in some sick fairytale for the lot of you in 'reality' to watch?" You don't hide the bite in your tone, your frustration leaking out as if your body was filled with holes.
Idia squeaks, nervously clutching her hair – one that has swaying flames of azure – like an anchor that will keep her from sinking into the sea of your emotions. You sigh out, it's no use getting angry at someone who didn't have a hand in your creation. It's not like she had instigated anything that happened to you, she was just a viewer after all.
"Sorry, I got carried away. I didn't mean to get so aggressive." You say apologetically, your frustration still hasn't gone away, you don't believe it would go away so quickly but right now being level headed was the better option.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Inhale.
Exhale.
You lean your forehead onto your hand, regulating your breathing. For now, it would be a good time to gather more information...
You straighten up, clearing your throat in attempt to get Idia – who still hasn't raised her head in what you believe is fear – to look at you. It works, as she raises her gaze to look up at you. "Say, could you tell me more about this 'reality' of yours?"
Recovering from the shock of being a manga character was a long process. Thankfully, it seems your host was an accommodating one. Helping you adjust as best as she can. Though this world...has plenty of strange contraptions. You were scared out of your wits when Idia pressed a button and the square on her table started lighting up. The fact that everything in Idia's room is considered 'high-tech' doesn't help, But right after you've finally gotten over your shock the next thing you know there was a literal child that looked like the contraptions that appeared out of nowhere! Though, after your almost obliteration of Idia's room the child(?) was surprisingly friendly and humanlike despite your hostility in your first encounter. You've come to know the child as Ortho. You start to wonder if this world has a trend to name their children strange things...Other than that, she was an exact opposite of her sister, sweet, sociable, and cheerful. However, their differences don't seem to separate them in the least. In fact, they get along than most siblings you see. It got you feeling all warm and sentimental for a bit. But even then, they both at least one thing in common, and that's how cute they are. Now, it's a given that Ortho is cute. (Why wouldn't she be? Idia built her to look cute!) Though, Idia can also be – by equal measures – cute!
Cute enough to make you squeal and want to squish her cheeks. Oh, and the way her hair turns pink every time you get close...It's absolutely adorable! You never thought someone's hair could be so expressive! At one point your curiosity got the better of you. By impulse, you lightly stroked the azure flames. It didn't burn like what one would assume, rather it was similar to the feeling of warming your hands over a fire on a cold wintry night. Of course, when you do this Idia audibly squeaks and swivels from her seat to look at you. Embarrassment, it was common expression Idia made while with you. You guessed it was because you are her favorite character, the amount of pictures she has saved is already enough proof. You apologize to her but you're sure the teasing tilt to your tone doesn't make you convincing. Right, the longer you've stayed here, the less you cared about being convincing. This place is much more peaceful despite being worse according to Idia. As Idia starts to sputter at you, hair the pinkest you've ever seen it, you start to think that this type of life isn't so bad.

Whenever I go into some Dreamworks Trolls fan art or fan fics, there's always one person who is surprised that Trolls has a fandom. Yes, we do have one. It's small but enough to feed us. And it's only getting bigger. Why is there a fandom? How is this fandom still going?
Least Problematic Fandom
"But we're not all the same........ Denying our differences is denying who we really are."
The 2nd film had a really deep message for a movie aimed at babies. Going against "we're all the same" message. And telling instead that differences do matter, our culture matters, our lives matter, the way we look matters and that's beautiful. When we accept that we're different and not forcing anything on each other, we can live in harmony. This lesson is what the fandom is built on.
The moment someone takes a look into this fandom, we welcome them with cupcakes, sweets, and warm hugs. The entire fandom is the least problematic one I've ever been in. Never been in a fight, always complimenting each other and just being at peace. We never had ship wars as far as I know. We're all just having fun by putting every character with every character on a ship. I've seen people who are Christians in the fandom have zero problems with the LGBT+ community. Yes, we exist, and we're in the Trolls fandom for some reason. 😂 No one ever fought on what color skin we made the Trolls when we humanized them. Mostly because if anyone drew the Funk Trolls as white, we just walked past them without giving them attention. Or just point out that they are black coded, and that's it.
It's just peaceful here in this fandom. This fandom really helped me out mentally and emotionally. Because a lot of people in the fandom also faced some form of abuse or depression. We saw the 1st film, and it just felt like a warm hug while someone sung a lullaby to calm us down.
In summery, the fandom is filled with people who understand pain and empathy. The franchise created a safe zone for us to heal and relax.
Artists
The moment an artist takes a look in here, they get hypnotized by all the color pallets they can use. You can be pastel like the Pop Trolls. Emo, goth, punk with the Rock Trolls. Play with lighting with the Tech Trolls. Ect. All the cutesy and marshmallow like characters they can create. Or turn into some darker AU. The anatomy is too cute to not try to mimic or create in your own style. The world building and the endless number of worlds that they can create. You can create your own kingdom based on your favorite type of music. You can create the way your troll/charaters will look like based on your music. If you want to practice on mirrors and reflective surfaces, you have the Funk Kingdom to draw. Want to do glitter? The desert is pure glitter for sand. The Country Trolls live in a town made of yarn. The pop trolls have a waterfall made of streamers. This is endless creativity for artists. I've seen artists come into our fandom and use the characters and world as practice before moving on to the next fandom. But they always come back for more practice or just to hang out.
Also, the thought of making a troll mixed in with different tribes is pretty cool. As in, what if a Rock Troll and Classical troll had a kid? Goth like angle? A little punk looking guy with angelic and glittery wings?
Writing
I can relate to this one. Again, the world building is endless. You can create your own kingdom based on your favorite music. You can create your own rules, your citizens' behavior, and how this kingdom works. The fun part is creating your own royal family.
But the AUs are where it's at. I created a lot of Fairytale AUs as a teen using the characters because they just worked well. My very first was a Tangled AU with Poppy as Rupunzel and Branch as Flynn. I made the nose joke work by making the kingdom mess up Branches colors. An inside joke with in the fandom. The franchise just gives off a lot of fairytale vibes.
When the 1st film came out, the characters each had their own story. Which was cool and gave writers ideas on what to write. And I loved to humanize them because I liked the thought of Fuzzbert being def or mute because he can't talk clearly as a troll.
Not to mention, I can create an AU where the Trolls or humanized versions of them live in a world where segregation is an issue. Which 100% fits the franchise because in the 2nd film, every tribe is supposed to be a different culture. In other words, a different race. And the Trolls would separate themselves out of fear that the Pop tribe would try to colonize them and take away their culture.
There are just a lot of concepts you can use in this fandom.
Music
Let's keep this short because this post is long enough. People have openly said they don't like the movies, but they still watch it for the music. Seriously, listen to the soundtracks. They have musical artists, new ones like K-pop bands, and legends like Mary Jane Blige. The songs have a deeper meaning when you watch the film, too. Baiscally, candy for the ears.
Aesthetic
Lastly, people just like it for eye candy. The 80s aesthetic I'm the 1st film appealed to a lot. And the 2nd movie introduced more by bringing in Rock Trolls and their darker and punk like aesthetic. People fell in love with the Tech Trolls for their designs and the fact they live in an underwater kingdom that glows. It's just pure eye candy and pleasing to look at.
So yeah!
These are the reasons why our fandom is a thing and still thriving. We're super excited for the 3rd film and can't wait for more world building and new characters.

hi!! I saw a rec list of yours where you were like, "i actually have more but some of them are just the real popular ones so im like. Yeah youve read it." -- but I HAVENT!! I'm brand new to cherik and looking for those ultimate recs, those smash hits. could you rec some ultimate cherik fic, if you have the time? i'm not big on fluff but anything too cutesy but otherwise I'm totally open!!! thank you in advance!
hiii :D i would absolutely recommend you to also browse the tag filtering it by kudos because i tend to filter out some things and i also tend to be picky with stuff so there's probably Smashing Hits(tm) i overlooked bc i was like 'nahh im not in the mood today' and my god there are so many good authors and fics that probs go undiscovered by ME. so do make sure you don't miss out on Those Hits
that being said i went through my bookmarks and i'm grabbing those ones with thousands of kudos (bc to me A Lot of Kudos are anything over 100 but i know some cherik fics have liek 5k or more so. i rec going thru the tag fr) so if i repeat myself from the other recs im very sorry but teehee here you go!!!!

mmh I don't know if this is really an American term, it's just something I found on google after seeing a movie that I really liked, headcannons related to a "pollyanna" mc that apparently means someone who has the ability to focus only on him positive side and just like in the movie, mc teaches the boys the "happy game" The game is to find something to be happy about in every situation, no matter how bleak it is, I feel that many of the pararai boy lack some uvur optimism for my fav group TWC<3
hello! thank you for your request. i have not heard of this movie before, but what a sweet concept! these moody boys definitely need some cheering up once in a while, haha. please take good care. ️
note: fem. reader
genre: romance/fluff.
characters: naoakira saimon. yohei kanbayashi. ryu natsume. shiki ando.
saimon:
there’ve been plenty of times he’s felt bleak and alone. whether it’s memories of his last love emerging, or feeling helpless seeing his young wards distraught over little things in life, saimon is indeed a sensitive, caring man who tends to place more on his shoulders if it meant relieving someone of it. with this comes a heavier sense of duty on the mind, one he’s not always able to address properly. however, you help him do just so.
in times of distress, you and your sweet words bring a soothing cloud to his jumbled mind. your innocuous game is easy enough, and simple so he’s able to play even if you’re not around. saimon is willing to learn from your positive outlook, finds it useful for when he’s caught up in his own ordeals. he appreciates the way you see the world and hopes to feel as you do someday.
yohei:
the worst things in life are what yohei’s prepared himself for, seeing how often they come to fruition; losing family, fighting for survival, a lost love unrequited. yohei is never quite the optimist you yourself have come to be, but finds himself drawn to the sweet simple way you look at life. there is an envy, almost, his over how happily you go through days, never dragged down by weight of sin’s past. you are never without a hope or a wish.
it’s silly, yohei thinks, this cutesy, wishy-washy game of yours. you want him of all people to play along? it’s only at your insistence (and perhaps kisses) that he begrudgingly agrees to play. he’ll struggle at first, needing your insight to help him decide just why little moments spark joy. it’s a game he’s yet to master on his own. but slowly, slowly, does he learn to play even without your gentle guidance.
ryu:
there isn’t much that brings ryu down. he is utterly carefree and impassive of the things around him, his world being far better to spend time in. he is perhaps a great match for you in this sense, in sharing this ever positive outlook. but even he has secrets of his own, unlike the chaos and play of his usual self. there are times he becomes inexplicably downtrodden, always over memories blurring into millions of fragments. surely your game brightens his day, helps him to realize you’re always there besides him.
games! games! games! if there’s anything ryu likes, it’s a good game. he’s made up plenty on his own, but he’s happy to try yours out. he’s already very good at picking out good and great things that happen in his day — he likes to imagine plucking them like flowers to bring to you later, to prove he’s a master of your fun, happy game. ryu often visits you just to tell of his day and his findings, in every and all detail, and it’s all thanks to you.
shiki:
pessimism is perhaps too familiar a foe for shiki. it is a mindset ingrained in him for so long, he’s hardly known any other way to live. it is with the support of his family that he’s improving as he grows, and knowing you care for him despite all his flaws, too. you two are likely the most unusual pairing, opposites attracting and all. you are every bit as happy as he is gloomy, but somehow you’re able to bring out the best in him regardless.
he takes your game very seriously, wholeheartedly taking account of your thoughtfulness in teaching him. shiki tries his hardest to play even when you’re not around to encourage him, with varying results. but he’s grateful for the second instinct you’ve instilled in him, to look for positives with his negative eyes. he knows he has a lot of work to do to get over his moody disposition, but as long as he has you, your happy game, maybe it won’t be so bad to get through.

The way yuri manga go, I feel a lot of them start out well, cute and sweet while the main couple is the only focus. But then, they become popular and the author doesn't know how to conduct the story, ending up repeating cliches of jealousy/ love triangles. It's always a bummer, but it's what I expect from longer Yuri series nowadays.
Whispering You a Love Song, though, surprised me so much in the other direction that every time a chapter is out I become impressed by it again. From the cutesy, simple start, I'd never have guessed how well the author would be able to bring other characters into the story. And not through overdone jealousy plots, but simply by having the main couple deal with their relationship as they interact with new friends and conflics outside of the relationship itself.
Instead of getting weaker as its world expanded beyond, it just gets stronger and feels more real. The world doesn't revolve around the two of the being a couple, and they manage to evolve - individually and as couple - through their friendships with other people.
From a manga that was cute but not really my cup of tea, this one really became one I truly like and look forward to :)

rambly, bit warning for mention of death and stuff
I used to be really into action/adventure stories, scifi, fantasy, thrillers... Although I always preferred stories that focused on characters more than plot, a story with an intriguing plot with a satisfying (or satisfyingly unsatisfying) outcome was always the most memorable.
I heard about iyashikei many years ago and remember being flummoxed. It's a story-telling style in Japan which is just about peaceful scenes, comfort, and feeling relaxed. It didn't seem interesting to me at all. I thought of that style as the Thomas Kinkade of literature/movies. I loved Ghibli films, but I never thought they fit that style, or fit it only in part.
My gosh, how I've changed in just the last five years. When I met my boyfriend, we bonded over X-men and Star Trek and recommended adventure novels to each other. Now he's still into all that, but I've moved away. It's not that I don't like those things anymore. I just don't get whatever it was I used to get from them. I don't want to watch new Star Trek shows. I don't want to read new adventures novels. Just the thought is exhausting to me. A fantasy novel hits the bestseller list, and instead of running out to buy it, I go, "Not another dystopia."
And I've totally embraced that iyashikei story. I want to live in it. It's true I still don't like things that are always perfect peace and harmony - but most of the stories I've encountered in this genre aren't. They're just gentler, slower moving, and dedicated to their aesthetic.
Basically my interests have done a 180 and I'm kind of in shock over it. It's really hampered me in some ways, because of course, I always dreamed of being like NK Jemisin and having my own awesome adventure series out one day. In the space of a few short years I lost all interest in doing something like that, although I still want to write. I just want to write things most people wouldn't want to read, lol.
So I'm trying to pinpoint when and why the change. When I started reading the Moomin novels a few years ago, even though I was a full-grown adult, I was completely drawn in. It's tough to explain, something to do with the atmosphere and philosophy. Moomins fits really well in with iyashikei. It's not too cutesy or too sweet to put me off - it's whimsical and fun and adventurous, but also calm and reassuring and wise. Every reread tells me something different. I don't think Tove Jansson and I are very much alike, but she makes me wish "heartful" was a word, because it seems to apply to her stories much better than thoughtful.
But why did I fall in love with Moomins so hard? As much as I'd like to think the stories would have the same effect on anyone, more likely it's because of my headspace when I found them. I was in a new job, just past the point of struggling and starting to find my feet, but still feeling unsure about it. I was in a new relationship. I was having a lot of family issues. And I was really unhappy about the world in general. I think my own head was just so full of stress and helplessness, and I really wanted permission to feel happy. Moomins gave me that. Those books swept in and reminded me how insignificant I am, and how significant that insignificance is. They reminded me what "tolerance" should look like - not the tolerance that made me hate the term, but hospitality and true loving your neighbor. It made me feel okay with being a basketcase yet loving storms (I relate way, way too much to the Fillyjonk in the Disaster story). And I loved the harshness and the great love and the wonder in the story of the little whomper who wishes his baby brother away. Honestly, Tales is such a great book. I was just like Moominpappa in trying to understand the incomprehensible sea. On my first read of November, I thought it was such a sad story. But on each progressive reread, the book becomes full of light. The family which can't connect with each other needs to find what each member needs to feel free in themself before they can fix the connection. And they need to face what they can't have, because it's out of their control.
I'm just rambling about Moomins now lol. The point is that I came across the Moomins right when I needed them, or something just like them. I felt so lost and alone but was determined to tough it out by myself. Although I've always been someone who loves solitude, I didn't really have it in me to be alone and heartbroken. Reading the books gave me some strength. I felt like my childhood had been a lie, and that nobody cared about that but me. And I felt that my life spent biting my tongue and not saying what I think was going to be my future too. And I don't know, Moomins didn't fix anything, I still have all those problems, but I guess I feel less alone with them. Like here are these people just living their lives being judged but not judging back. They don't bite their tongue, but they still don't talk because it's much better to do what you want than waste your breath. And knowing Tove wrote it all while being very human and mercurial herself is all the permission I need to love and believe in the stories despite my own weaknesses.
And I still don't feel like going back to action/adventure stories. That's what's most surprising. I'm going to see the new Spiderman movie this weekend. But aside from now and then stuff like that, I'm just not moved by thrills and high action. Maybe someday that will change - I thought it would - I thought I would have reverted years ago. But it still just sounds exhausting to me. The world is so much, I just want a small corner where no one will bother me. The other day I had a vision of myself lying in a patch of soft clover like I loved doing as a kid, and a stranger came up an stabbed me. My boyfriend ran over and called an ambulance, but I told him that if they said it was a fatal wound, then they should leave me because I'd rather die in the clover than at the hospital. It was very odd to think about, but the thought of dying in the hospital just made me so sad. More than the thought of dying itself.
Although it's morbid, I think that well expresses how I've been feeling these past years. It's not like I'm unhappy. I'm doing pretty well and mostly cheerful. But even when I was a kid I tended to think about sad things in a friendlier way than I think certain other people do. It's natural to end up a loner, because no one really wants to talk about that stuff with you. It's why I always say I'm no good at small talk. And I like thinking about the universe and spirituality and philosophy. I don't like politics or other stupidity. And I've felt my ability to do the former is very threatened by goings on in the latter. And lately my fear is that I'll find peace through resignation: okay, these people are never going to respect me for this or that reason, so I'm just going to let them not respect me and keep my thoughts to myself, because at least they'll still be mine. That's true in a sense but it's not good. It's not good because this is my one and only life, and it's fucking stupid that some people think they should decide for me what I am capable of because I'm a woman. Or any of the other myriad specious "reasons" bigots come up with so that they don't have to feel afraid.
tl;dr I just am so done with the world and want to go frolic with the Moomins, lol.

Heya Coii!
It's your buddy Steph again! I was hoping if I can request a matchup with Five Nights at Freddy's and Dark Deception please ^v^
Yep 👍
Your Five Nights at Freddy’s matchup is.. Montgomery Gator !!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Truth be told you’d work well with Glamrock Freddy, however I’m not to sure if you’d be into him as much as you’d be into Monty. With your small cutesy frame, it’d be a nice contrast with with big rough and tough look.
• Your extroversion is something he can keep up with pretty well! However, I think it’s best to leave him alone when he goes into his little rage fits. He does better when he just calms himself down. Hell, if you ever try to intervene I can guarantee that you’ll get hurt accidentally.
• He likes talking to you though, and most often times the two of come up with the most random conversation topics, you don’t even know how they start.
• He most likely doesn’t know about your sympathy for him, but even if he did, he appreciates you caring about him anyway. He’s like your knight when you need him most, and nothing would stop him from saving your ass almost all the time. (Be it for real trouble or the most stupid reasons every..he can be a bit of an idiot sometimes.)
• He sits there in awe every time you talk about your characters. He thinks you’re just so creative- and if you ever draw him or make up into a character in one of those..mobile games, he’d gush about it and show the whole gang. Hrhrhhhggh you’re so cute.
• Monty isn’t above teasing you once in awhile. And when he does, he tends to go a little to far to the point where you’re at a loss of words. He can easily pick you up and do so much with you, and just to see that cute face of yours get all flustered, why should he stop?
• You two most likely have a friends to lovers thing going for you. With Monty’s anger issues, he never imagined himself getting into any sort of relationship. But with you here, I doubt he’d want it any other way.
Your Dark Deception matchup is.. Reaper Nurse !!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• I was banging my head against the wall with this fvcking matchup. Originally I was going to go with Murder Monkey, but then I thought of Reaper Nurse cause like- she matches your energy so well! Along with having the qualms of an antagonist.
• She talks quite a bit, to the point where it’s over bearing..but knowing you, you love to keep conversation going! The two of you would never run out of things to talk about.
• While she may have a steady hand from her duties as a nurse, she doesn’t consider herself the best artist. Nurse quite often comments on how talented you are, and how you have such a nice hobby creating all these characters. However, she does remind you once in awhile it’s good to come back down to Earth, and away from the fictional world now and again.
• I stand by the theory that the nurses are all women who’ve been treated wrong. She has her moments when she can get reminded of what happened to her in the past, and appreciates the sweet moments between the two of you if either of you are feeling down. Seeing you sad ever makes her crumble to pieces! She’d trade everything just to see you smile again.
• Aw~ you’re blushing? How cute! She could just pinch your cheeks. Most of the time she flattered when you you get flustered by her, but rarely do you see it the other way around.
• The two of you are really close. Being personable and extroverted really brought you together. While others at first glance might think you both are very clicky and into gossip, it’s the opposite. The two of you are very open, made for a very laid back but sweet duo.

The Great CLAMP Re-Read Part 5: CLAMP School Detectives
Part 1 (RG Veda) | Part 2 (Man of Many Faces) | Part 3 (Tokyo Babylon)| Part 4 (Duklyon)
I don't know about all of you, but one of my first fond fanfic-adjacent writing experiences was painstakingly creating a magical school rip-off story where mine and all my friends self-insert OCs could go on adventures. And we wrote all this by hand in a notebook! I bring this up because CLAMP School Detectives says so much about CLAMP's doujinshi roots and how that thinking, of a vast playground for their characters to mess around in, was going to shape the road to Tsubasa. I also bring it up because this is self-indulgence to its core, in the way the best and frankly, worst of fanfiction is. Despite having an expanded anime adaptation, CLAMP School Detectives did not have the lasting cultural memory that their other adaptations did.
CLAMP School Detectives ran from 1992 to 1993, concurrent with all of their early series, and is in many ways the glue that bridges all of them. It provides the backstory for Duklyon, features Akira from Man of Many Faces, is in the same world as Tokyo Babylon and X, includes RG Veda characters as AU cameos (reflecting their admiration for Tezuka's Star System), and dozens of other references to their doujinshi and uncollected early abandoned works. It is out of print and only had a 2000s Tokyopop English release, of 3 volumes comprising 13 chapters. Again, I read this entirely online and wouldn't pick up a copy unless I wanted to be a completionist. "Spoilers", I guess?
Synopsis: Imonoyama Nokoru, Takamura Suoh, and Ijuin Akira are members of the Elementary School Student Board at CLAMP School. Nokoru has the incredible ability to detect when a woman needs help, and the three precocious children decide to form a detective team that solves the problems of fair maidens everywhere - if only Nokoru could get his paperwork done, to Suoh's despair!
The Story: If Dukylon and Man of Many Faces had barely a story, this is even less than that - it's a bunch of barely mysteries that the trio solve every chapter, with the finale being a flashback to explore Suoh and Nokoru's past and bond. It's a gag manga that relies on whether you think the gimmick of Nokoru being able to sense a woman in danger is funny, and find the little adventures cute, and it just did not land for me. It feels like an overly saccharine attempt at Enid Blyton type school boys solving mysteries (but in Japan), and it was just plain boring. Mostly because they're barely even mysteries - I felt cheated as a huge mystery lover! This is either going to read as really cute, or really boring to you, and it was the latter for me.
The Themes: Uhh.....help out fair maidens. It's a gag manga, if you're doing analysis on this, good for you, but I have a very packed life and I don't think CLAMP wants me to learn anything but "Nokoru cutie".
The Characters: As always, the characters are largely enjoyable but quite plain. Nokoru is basically perfect, the little boy of an elementary school dream, but it's done in a sweet enough way that he reads as funny rather than irritating. Suoh is textbook tsundere who devotes his life to Nokoru (Ashura & Yama you will always be famous), and Akira is the ditzy one. There's not much here beyond Nokoru secretly feeling a bit distanced from people because he doesn't want to hurt others and Suoh being a ninja (interestingly he had his own series that never got finished or compiled into tankoban). If you like cutesy wacky elementary school stories, you'll like them. I found them fine.
The Art: I find this some of CLAMP's weakest character design - Nokoru and Suoh look too similar to me beyond the colour palette, and the different women featured feel unimaginative. It's overall decent art, but nothing special or groundbreaking. As someone who devoured RG Veda, Tokyo Babylon and even Man of Many Faces for just how damn pretty and creative they could get, it's lacklustre.
Questionable Elements: I don't know if this is just a translation issue, but Nokoru's behaviour is referred to as "feminist", and it is not. This is Victorian era paternalism that women need taking care of and can't be held responsible for our actions because we're the emotional and fairer sex. It's mostly played for satire, but it can get irritating. Also there's another "older person x literal minor bad, but only because older person is a woman". Are CLAMP ageist? One wonders.
Also. There is overt fascist imagery in CLAMP School Detectives:
Tumblr media
CLAMP draws them in Nazi uniforms on another cover, and there are MULTIPLE images of the Rising Sun Flag (which is a symbol of fascist WW2 imperial Japan). It's abhorrent and there is much to discuss frankly about how fascist imagery is so ubiquitous in manga.
Overall: Putting aside the REALLY bad elements, CLAMP School Detectives is probably the weakest so far of CLAMP's oeuvre. The characters are charming and the premise itself is not bad, but it never quite lands. It's a very cutesy, almost slice of life manga, which is just really not my thing, which is way it took me so long to read through it. Not something I'd recommend to anyone beyond devoted CLAMP fans.

Thoughts on every translated Shuzu Oshimi work:
Avant-Garde Yumeko (2003) – Great despite being short! A girl becomes obsessed with dicks and wants to see one so badly it takes her life in unexpected directions. An early example of Oshimi’s interest in sexually forward girls. Makes a link between sexuality and art in a unique way.
Sweet Poolside (2004) – Silly story about a boy who’s embarrassed that he has no body hair and a girl embarrassed that she has too much body hair. Oshimi has clearly always been interested in gender anxieties and fluidity. The manga’s ending is great.
Devil Ecstasy (2005-2006) – I adored this one. It is probably the most light-hearted thing Oshimi’s written but it’s up there with my favorites. Trashy in all the right ways, cutesy yet campy; it’s got absurdist horror, ridiculous sexuality and gender themes, and cute couples. I was obsessed with the emo rock boy and his alt gf.
Yūtai Nova (2007–2008) – Similar to other Oshimi works; the first time he uses “self dissolution” and gender bending as themes. Not that good but might have been better if it hadn’t gotten discontinued.
Drifting Net Café (2008–2011) – To be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of this one. It wasn’t bad, but I’ve seen this premise and theme done better elsewhere. This and the previous work are the only manga by Oshimi to feature sexual violence by men against women—from this point on, it’s always the other way around.
The Flowers of Evil (2009–2014) – I know this is one of Oshimi’s most famous and beloved works, but it’s not my favorite. I found it more intellectually stimulating than emotionally involving, I guess. But the story surprised me, which I can’t say for everything, and I really liked the ending. Also this was my first of Oshimi’s manga, and I immediately nailed him as someone fascinated with sexual domination/submission.
Shino Can't Say Her Name (2011–2012) – Short and sweet. The only Oshimi work that seems to have no hint of sexuality. It’s a story about a girl with a horrible stutter who ends up making friends and forming a band. Heartwarming stuff.
Inside Mari (2012–2016) – One of his best. Psychologically rich with compelling characters. The story is engaging and constantly throwing the reader curve balls. So much could be said about its themes of gender, sexuality, and identity, especially in context of Oshimi’s entire body of work.
Happiness (2015–2019) – I liked this one but I doubt I’ll ever reread it. Oshimi is great at making lovable characters in a short span of time, so I was definitely invested in the story, but it wasn’t that interesting to me ultimately. It was a fairly straightforward vampire horror. I do like that it pulled “humans are the real monsters,” and some of the scenes with the cult towards the end were truly harrowing—my morbid ass loves shit like that.
Waltz (2017) – A one-shot about a girl who meets a boy(?) who likes to dress up as a girl. I liked the ending. Not a lot to say given how short it is.
Trail of Blood (2017–2023) – The most important of Oshimi’s works to me. I can’t really talk about it but I think it’s a work of art that will continue to influence my life for years to come.
Miss Kusakabe (2020) – One-shot about a man in a shitty relationship with a domineering woman (surprise surprise). Didn’t get a lot out of it.
Lily (2021) – ANOTHER one-shot about a man getting dominated by a woman. Something you’d like to tell us, Oshimi?
Welcome Back, Alice (2020–2023) – I really liked this one. The characters ended up growing on me a lot, and I loved the themes—let’s all just quit with this gender bullshit. It’s funny that the plot is quite literally “non-binary kid enters a high school and transes all his classmates.” Maybe the trans conspiracists were on to something after all! But for real, the final chapters were beautiful and meaningful; essentially the story was about trying to envision a world where sex and gender don’t imprison us. I really admire Oshimi for being so open about his own feelings and experiences on these issues. He’s doing important work to dissolve the invisible divides people create, and I feel a kinship to him. Perhaps because I also have a weird BDSM fixation.

Pop'n Music Phantom Thief AU!!
Woah!! Pog!! A new bad AU from Cinna! The synposis for this one is: Kaorin has a really cool friend group and gets into phantom thieves. This coincides with ~bad things~ (Shadows) invading Pop'n World. Anyways now Kaorin and her gang must Kick Ass. Also later they overcome flaws and get Animas.
Basic character things:
Kaorin, Kokona, Miyu, and Retsu make up the four protagonists
Ryusei and Suisei have their own thing going on
MZD is here. He gets important later.
Marin and Ayumu are here for laughs. The duo of clowns, they are.
Rasis, Shoko, Timer, Nia, Toa, and Meteor all have their little group thing
Time to spoil my own AU!! Character bios!
Kaorin
The main character who owns a diary. Obsessed with love, MZD gave her a pair of binoculars that allow her to see true love. Recently got into phantom thieves and became the “Phantom Thief of Love and Hearts”. Excitable and peppy, she looks for someone to become her true companion. Unfortunately, she hasn’t realised that a “true companion” isn’t exclusive to romance, and can apply to friends. Goal-oriented to the point where it can be an annoyance.
In action, she is an excellent planner and can draft somebody’s room after a single look. Good at stealth, as she’s so unassuming and casual that people don’t pay attention.
Her Anime is Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. This is using a negative interpretation of the goddess, even if it fits with Kaorin. Her unique power is to cause two victims to become obsessive over each other, which is relatively unpredictable. It usually causes the two affected to turn on previous allies.
Kokona Shinonome
A very shy girl with an older sister. Part of an idol duo called “CocoNatsu”, with her sister. Keeps a tablet on her to communicate with people, as she is only confident while on stage. Slightly short-sighted, so she wears glasses. Has low self-esteem, so she goes along with whatever Natsushi and Kaorin plan. Very docile, cutesy, and silent. Despite how cute she is, her low self-esteem causes her to isolate herself from those she considers friends.
She met Kaorin when the latter attended one of her concerts, then glomped her afterwards. Got wrapped up in Kaorin’s phantom thieving, and ended up becoming the “Phantom Thief of Song and Beauty”, much to her embarrassment.
In action, she is the distractor. Teams up with Nia and Toa on missions, and uses her voice and looks to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Her Anima is Oizys, the Greek goddess of misery. This is meant to represent the fact that living without confidence is miserable, depressing, and it ends up as a malevolent force in your life. Her unique power is to create an impenetrable bubble that captures a specific amount of foes, isolating them from the fight.
Miyu
A girl who lives every minute like a dream. Adores Hiumi to the point of obsession, and hates Retsu in particular. Her hatred of Retsu is because she’s jealous of the fact that he’s special. Otherwise, she’s very cheery and is talented at making sweets. Has a yellow, heart-shaped lapis that inflicts a state of thoughtlessness on her foes. Somehow, she never lost it in Lapistoria.
She met Kaorin in her cooking class when they were paired together to bake a cake. They ended up getting the best grades on that assignment, and became quick friends. When Kaorin hit the phantom thief phase, Miyu became the “Phantom Thief of Sweets and Dreams”.
In action, she has the axe. They let her run buck wild with Retsu and they perform the majority of the killing.
Her Anima is Enbizaka, the name of the town from The Tailor of Enbizaka. Do note we are only using what the song tells us, not the novel of Evillious Chronicles. Enbizaka represents Miyu’s envy towards those who know Hiumi on a personal level, and her wish to be special. It is born from her lapis, and thus has the powers of the lapis. Her power unique to the Anima is to spark envy into victims, causing them to turn on their allies.
Retsu
A hotheaded, heroic boy. When the shadows began invading, he regained his lapis. Instead of using it, he sacrificed it to save Nia. Bases his self-worth on how “heroic” he thinks he is. Acts of heroism include being good at fighting games, having good pyrokinetic skills, and nothing else. Has been feeling slightly worthless recently, and slightly regrets sacrificing his lapis. Despises the part of him that regrets sacrificing the lapis. He is rather blind to the fact that he is great at cheering people up, and causing others to have revelations. Overtly reckless and optimistic.
He met Kaorin during the events of Lapistoria, as they became classmates. They only became close after the escape from Lapistoria. When Kaorin hit the phantom thief phase, Retsu made himself the title of “Phantom Thief of Fire and Heros!” and nobody has corrected the spelling mistake.
In action, Retsu has the fire. Runs around with Miyu, and destroys the evidence of the shadow corpses by torching them to ash.
His Anima is Palladium, an object that was regarded as a bringer of safety. It represents how easily his justice is shaken, or broken, and the fact that there’s a personal goal for it, making it “tainted'' in a sense. It is born from his drained lapis, meaning it is significantly less powerful than most. Retsu’s own power, however, makes up for its weakness. His unique power is to shatter the victim, which lowers their speed, accuracy, damage output, and defence.
Suisei Laura
A hot-headed, hime-sama type girl who has a rivalry with Ryusei. Comes from a rich family, and thus becomes the group wallet. Very arrogant, and goal-oriented. Gets along well enough with everyone, but her aggressiveness around Ryusei is a bit too much for everyone. Causes quite a bit of conflict before she gets over it.
She met Kaorin when she was on a tour led by Honey. Seeing the two rollerblading, Laura’s rivalry kicked in, and she began a race with Ryusei. Kaorin then proceeded to win the race by going up and over. Suisei got pissed at losing, and proceeded to make Kaorin her second rival. Kaorin rejected the rivalry, and gave Suisei and Ryusie phantom thief titles. Suisei gained the title “Phantom Thief of Ferocity and Elegance”.
In action, she makes a power duo with Ryusei. Despises the fact that she works well with her long-time rival. Laura brings the hard hits.
Ryusei Honey
A very cutesy, energetic, and speedy lady. Has a rivalry with Suisei, but actually wishes to be friends with Laura due to her secret loneliness. In love with a boy named Danny, she gets jealous easily. Her jealousy causes a lot of people to stop talking to her, as it gets in the way of interacting with Honey. She wishes that her jealousy would vanish.
She met Kaorin when the latter selected her as a tour guide. After a race with Suisei, she was impressed that Kaorin won, and asked if they could meet again (before Suisei butted in with her rivalry). Kaorin rejected Suisei’s offer, before giving them both phantom thief titles. Ryusei gained the title “Phantom Thief of Energy and Affection”.
In action, she makes a power duo with Suisei. She’s overjoyed to get a better chance at befriending Laura and hopes it’ll end her jealous streak. Provides the quick combos.
Her Anima is Gift, the German world of “poison”. Gift as a name follows a double meaning, being both her pleasant personality and her tendency to get so jealous it saps the joy from hanging out with her and “kills” off her company. Its unique power is to inflict a life drain upon foes.
MZD
The mysterious god of the Pop’n worlds. Despite acting like a happy-go-lucky, casual kid, nobody knows who he really is. A benefactor of a higher power, he is entertained by Kaorin’s antics. When the shadows come down on the Pop’n World, MZD sends the group off.
Kaorin has practically been born knowing he exists. Kaorin doesn’t know him well enough to assign a phantom thief title, and he doesn’t want one. Does not help in the action.
Eventually, he gains his own Anima, something he didn’t think was possible. His Anima is Aeternus, in reference to the Jungian psychology archetype. The particular things to call upon are MZD’s refusal to “grow up”, to never change. His unique trait is to make a victim unable to “change”, effectively paralysing it.
Unfortunately, getting one of these ropes him into the Phantom thief group. He obtains the title “Phantom Thief of Youth and Gods”, and he does not like it.
Marin
An overly energetic girl who always carries mallets. Her best friend is Ayumu, a fellow bandmate. Has great pride in playing the marimba, but gets overly focused in her practice and performances. Prone to long tangents of explaining things she’s interested in. Throws a lot of ideas out on phantom thief activity. Rather clumsy sometimes.
Kaorin met her when she was visiting the bandroom. Kaorin caught Marin and Ayumu in the middle of practice, and became good friends. When Kaorin hit the phantom thief phase, Marin gained the title “Phantom Thief of Percussion and Ideas”.
In action, she teams up with Ayumu as distractions. They both play their instruments, bringing loads of attention to themselves.
Ayumu
A girl who lives life as it happens. The best friend of Marin. Only really dedicated to her trumpet playing, so ends up with average grades. Her relaxed nature to life causes people to believe she’s incredibly lazy, despite that not being the case. Owns a cat called Nikukyuu.
Kaorin met her when she was visiting the bandroom. Kaorin caught Marin and Ayumu in the middle of practice, and became good friends. When Kaorin hit the phantom thief phase, Ayumu gained the title “Phantom Thief of Trumpets and Kitty-Cats”.
In action, she teams up with Marin as distractions. They both play their instruments, bringing loads of attention to themselves.
Navigator Rasis
A very easy-to-approach girl with a slight hint of timidness. Relatively cheerful, she’s able to remain on the optimistic side of things and help others out of slumps. Takes a lot of burdens onto her shoulders, but is mature enough to know how to handle all of it. Has a little sister named Grace.
Kaorin met her while Rasis was on exchange status at Lapistoria, where they got along rather well. When Kaorin hit the Phantom Thief phase, Rasis opted to help navigate instead of fight. Even though she’s perfectly capable, she has a lot on her plate, and isn’t a fan of fighting. Became the “Phantom Thief of Navigation and Sisterhood”.
In action, she acts as the main navigator. She’s able to access this work from anywhere, so it suits her schedule.
Shoko Aoi
A slightly depressed girl who dislikes rain. Mildly shy, and doesn’t have a lot of friends. She goes along with her life, sort of having given up on it. Kaorin didn’t change much, and she still wasn’t able to smile with honesty. At least, Kaorin’s antics helped her meet new people, including Rasis…
She met Kaorin when they were assigned to a history project together. They got average grades, and Kaorin’s naturally bubbly attitude brought Shoko into becoming her friend. When Kaorin hit the phantom thief phase, Shoko outright rejected to join in the group. Eventually, she warmed up to the idea, and gave herself the codename “Aoku”.
In action, she also helps with some navigation. Despite not being as good as Rasis, she is at least able to do it. Rasis is training her to help her get better.
Timer
A boy with a naturally idol-like personality. Very interested in cosplay, however not as interested in sewing. This ends up with him being a model for Toa. Has a crush on Nyami, which is reciprocated.
He met Kaorin while he was on tour. Kaorin had won a backstage pass, and the two of them clicked naturally.  When Kaorin hit the phantom thief phase, Timer was very very sad to have to reject her invitation due to his busy schedule. He at least promised to make a modelling deal for Toa if the group needs costumes. He ended up being recognised as an honorary member of the phantom thieves.
Nia
A timid idol girl. She was trapped in the half-dead Lapis world, but when shadows began invading, was brought back thanks to Retsu. Has a close bond with her brother, Toa. Very responsible, even though she sometimes gets caught up in whatever silly antics are happening around her.
She met Kaorin when Timer introduced Kaorin to both her and her brother. Toa and Kaorin became fast friends, and Nia found herself wrapped up in more brotherly antics. When Kaorin hit the phantom thief phase, Nia gained the title “Phantom Thief of Electro and Coredust”, per her suggestions.
In action, she assists Kokona in distracting groups that Miyu and Retsu cannot defeat.
Toa
An excitable and talented boy. He sews clothes as a hobby, but also has a contract with Timer. He took a hiatus when Nia was trapped in Lapistoria, but has since recovered. Grateful to Retsu for saving his sister. Gets surprisingly scary when angered.
He met Kaorin when Timer introduced Kaorin to both him and his sister. He and Kaorin became fast friends, and Nia found herself wrapped up in more brotherly antics. When Kaorin hit the phantom thief phase, Toa gained the title “Phantom Thief of Sewing and Friendship”, which they brainstormed together.
In action, she assists Kokona in distracting groups that Miyu and Retsu cannot defeat. Also makes outfits for everybody that fit the phantom thief theme.
Meteor
An overly excitable and generally odd boy. Has a hobby in engineering. Incredibly clever, but doesn’t let that stop him from enjoying himself. Has oddly violent techniques in his craft.
He met Kaorin while she was having a vacation in space. They just happened to be in the same hotel and may as well have been hand-crafted to be friends. Meteor refused every and all of Kaorin’s phantom thief titles, opting for a codename of “Antoine” instead. This was granted.
Not actually involved in the action. He mostly just makes the weaponry. The official engineer of the phantom thieves.
That is just copied from the google doc. Enjoy. I'll write it eventually (never). Thank you for reading fr.

OFMD so easily could have included a scene where either Stede or Ed makes an advance and the other goes into panic mode and pushes them away because, I'm not like that, why would you think I'm like that?
That scene plays out in every single piece of popular, progressive, queer media that I consumed growing up. I'm 23.
And the message is clear; being gay means being an outsider, it isn't "normal" it's disgusting and shameful. The relationship faces constant challenges from the, unsafe, outside world as well as from within the relationship. The characters spend hours in pain, trying to accept themselves because they hate themselves so so much.
It's a love story, but it's also a story of pain and heart-break, where the characters have to constantly ask themselves is this really worth the challenge? And then, one or both die, always in a way directly related to being gay.
They would have done this even in a comedy like OFMD because this trope was so closely tied to queer love stories in popular media. And a show set in the 18th century? There would have been episodes dedicated simply to how disgusting and difficult it is to be gay. We would have gotten gay panic in the original meaning of the word with either Stede or Ed physically fighting the other because they made a small gesture to suggest they might be interested in something like that.
These were important stories to tell at the time, and generally much more indicative of the society they were from than the one they portrayed. And I know OFMD isn't the first good queer media, I'm not saying we've solved homophobia, and I'm also not saying OFMD is perfect.
But isn't it just, nice? I was never even worried about the show doing this. I forgot it was even a possibility, until 20 minutes ago when I saw cutesy fanart of Ed and Stede with the words "gay panic" being used in the more favourable modern way and I was suddenly transported back to the not so distant past.
I would have forgiven them a scene of panic, of shock and internal struggle, of outside forces keeping them apart because it's not "natural". But I love them for not doing that, for it being so sweet and soft and normal.

hi lis! I hope you're having a wonderful day/night! also, I'd like to request hcs for Floyd, Jade, Idia, and Lilia with a s/o who just radiates Ramuda energy from hypmic! Loves lollipops and just have a very cutesy type of vibe to them!
Floyd Leech
Your personality was definitely the first thing about you that caught his eye! You’re so sweet and cute, bouncing around the world with your candies in hand, you always lit up every room you entered.
Your energy is very contagious to him. Sometimes he’ll be in a bad mood, but seeing you being yourself lifts his spirits up often. It’s like eating candy, he thinks. The sugar makes you happy so quickly.
He talks a lot about how you’re just like candy, actually -- Sweet and pretty like one of your lollipops. He, uh, May or may not joke about wanting to eat you.
Jade Leech
Also found your personality very eye catching. The energy that’s always shining around you is so intriguing, while you’re not exactly unpredictable, Jade still finds you so fun to be around.
He likes enabling your sweet tooth tendencies. He can’t help it, you’re just so cute when you’re enjoying your sweet treats. He both buys you candy and makes some fancier concotions for you from time to time.
Likes spoiling his s/o in general, but when they’re as cheerful and cute as you, he has even more fun with it. He loves seeing how your eyes sparkle when he pats you on the head and tells you how cute you are.
Idia Shroud
Thinks you’re out of this world. Literally. He doubts anyone can just act this sweet and full of energy all the time -- You’ve gotta be a character from some dating sim, you fit some tropes down to a T, even!
He’s initally sort of unsettled by how excitable you are, while Idia appreciates characters like you fictionally, in real life things are... different. He comes to find out, though, that he doesn’t actually mind that energy around him. On contrary, you light up his gloomy self more often than not.
Idia thinks it’s ironic how you two ended up together. The cheerful one and the shut-in... really, how cliché. But, well, maybe this was fine, because you’re always making each other smile, sharing your candies.
Lilia Vanrouge
So cute!!! He can’t ever get enough of personalities like yours. Lilia is a bit on the cheerful side too, but he’s so jaded, he’s lost a lot of his shine over the years. Seeing you being so unapologetically you feels so refreshing.
Another sweet tooth enabler. He’s constantly buying you candies, different flavors of lollipops or different brands of the same flavor of your preference. Then he tells you he wants a taste and kisses you before you can respond.
You’re so his type, honestly. Lilia can forget about everything else when he’s with you, just keeping his mind busy with having fun.
(+ if you like my writing, you can buy me a ko-fi to support me!)
