why would you be unsafe at pride

I'm going to assume this question is asked in good faith and with a genuine interest in my safety. I'm also going to be very direct and blunt.

Jewish people are being targeted and attacked worldwide. Not just in right-wing spaces, but also leftist spaces. And yes that includes Pride and queer related events. If I want to attend pride wearing my kippah and my magen david, there is a good chance I will have some unpleasant words thrown at me, at the very least. There is a chance I will be physically attacked and/or kicked out of the march.

I would recommend spending more time listening to Jewish people on their struggle with antisemitism in the present. I don't mean that as a snarky comment, I just think listening to minorities about their struggles is a crucial part of activism. Hope this answered your question! Picture this: it's June, and it's Buck's first Pride Month. He knows he's bisexual this year, and he has a boyfriend, and he is both terrified that he's going to fuck this up and embarrass himself or Tommy and excited, and because he doesn't want to show that he's terrified, so on June 1st, he puts pride flags in his insta bio and he puts up banners, and he's just a general nuisance, until Hen pulls him aside to talk to him. She gets to the bottom of his panic, and he admits that he doesn't want to mess anything up since this is his first time. She promises that she and Karen will look after him this Pride and he'll discover that it's just a very good time to enjoy being queer in a crowd.

When he and Tommy follow Karen and Hen into the celebration, they stop at a booth for face painting, Hen sits him down at the booth and tells the artist he wants a bisexual flag on his cheek, and she pays for it. She also convinces Tommy to get the rainbow flag, and both she and Karen get the lesbian flag, all matching stripes of pride on their skin for the world to see. Buck looks at himself in the mirror nearby and pauses, because it's there. He's there. They're all there, happy, and together, and he looks at Tommy with a rainbow across his cheeks. He's so, so happy to finally know himself and to let the world know that this is exactly who he wants to be.

He pulls Tommy into him and kisses him while Karen's flag is getting finished, and he takes a selfie of them together, their flags on display as they kiss in the photo, and he posts it on his insta for everyone to see, with the photos of Hen and Karen, Josh when they run into him with his friends, Tommy in the perfect summer lighting, and a small rainbow from a spray of water. It's perfect, and he's so, so happy to be here.

so a friend of mine came out at lunch as transmasc. He was like what do you think about trans people. Now we’re gonna ignore my one friend because she’s a dick and doesn’t know anything but everyone was positive about it so then he was like well im transmasc this is my coming out!! And I was like yayyyy and everyone else just sat there. Turns out they didn’t know what transmasc meant because none of them are apart of the lgbtq community or anything but then it was positive reaction. (Again ignoring my one friend because she’s a dick) We asked what pronouns to use my friends had a few questions and then it was done. We just kept eating. It made me realize coming out doesn’t have to be big. You don’t have to have an elaborate plan or anything you don’t have you scream it loud you don’t have to be extravagant. You can just come out. It made me feel better because maybe if he can have enough courage to come out then maybe I can someday.
