Reading a book about slavery in the middle-ages, and as the author sorts through different source materials from different eras, I am starting to understand why so many completely fantastical accounts of "faraway lands" went without as much as a shrug. The world is such a weird place that you can either refuse to believe any of it or just go "yeah that might as well happen" and carry on with your day.

There was this 10th century arab traveller who wrote into an account that the fine trade furs come from a land where the night only lasts one hour in the summer and the sun doesn't rise at all in the winter, people use dogs to travel, and where children have white hair. I don't think I'd believe something like that either if I didn't live here.

I know "60s housewives who invented slash fanfiction" has taken on a life of its own as a phrase, but Kirk/Spock didn't really exist until the 70s and THOSE WOMEN HAD JOBS. They were teachers and librarians and bookkeepers and scientists and they damn well spent their own money going to conventions, printing zines, buying fanart and making fandom happen. Put some respect on their names.

I read a LOT of our fandoms fanfiction and neglect to recommend or comment! Sometimes kudos doesn't cut it when the work is so good it is something you want to share with the son you see growing into his own hyperfixations.

Right now we're going through a lot of the older book based fics (Alex has a... systematic approach to things 😁😆) . I have so many to recommend and I'm probably so late to this particular party. But right just now if I could compliment irisbleufic for not just one fic but pretty much everything. Beautiful, beautiful work. Just astonishing.

I’m not Jewish, but I see the ugliness that you describe happening around me on a daily basis. I want to see an end to the death and suffering in Palestine as much as you do. I want to see an end to Jewish death and suffering as much as you do. I don’t know how to fix this, but I don’t want you to feel alone or feel like the Jewish community are the only people who have your back. Many, many non-Jewish people/goyim have your back. I’m so sorry that some of them in your RL circles don’t. It’s shameful.

Thanks so much, anon! Late last night, I also realized there was a transcript link in the episode info (in all of them, really; it shows how seldom I remember to look).

In many settings, I don’t know who’s safe to confide in. Several of my spouse’s long-distance friends who I liked very much all unfollowed me on social media within mere days to weeks following 10/7. It’s as if expressing pain about Jewish loss and suffering alongside pain at the sheer loss of Palestinian lives isn’t permissible. Express pain over Jewish death and the antisemitism that surged within those mere days to weeks, and you are persona non grata. Maybe you were always unwelcome, and it’s now socially acceptable to say as much. I just don’t know anymore. I’m aghast at everything that’s happened and is still happening, yet I can’t acknowledge my people’s suffering as part of that immense, horrifying whole.

Sorry to go off like this, but I just…some days, I just can’t take it. I can’t suppress the guilt I’m constantly told to feel for grieving and feeling unshakable fear.

Something i feel non jews/goyim don't realize is that being jewish right now is very tiring.

Whilst there are amazing online communities that I am apart of, my irl life is very different.

my ex friend who is still in my friend group is openly antisemetic online. Im not sure if my friends have even picked up on that or seen his posts as idk how often they go on tumblr.

Every day i wonder if my friends ever agree with any antisemtism. None of them have spoken out about it. I feel like I can't even share any antisemitism i experience online or irl with my irl friends without them being uncomfortable because its common for goyim to be uncomfortable with discussions surronding antisemitism.

I just feel so alone and isolated irl all my attempts to fill that void online is like putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound.

Further to what I just reblogged: is anyone else having an extremely hard time figuring out what’s happening in many scenes of The Magnus Protocol? I never had this issue with The Magnus Archives. The sound editing seems to be less clean/less precise in TMAGP than in TMA.

Wait…is that what’s happening? The sound effects are extremely hard to parse in that part of the episode. I assumed she was waiting for a train and had fallen asleep and missed more than one, hence the “not again.” If someone has a blow-by-blow of exactly what’s happening during that scene, can you share it?
