Based on the posts I've been reading, the Titans rlly dislike Bruce xD
Do you have a list of stuff of the Titans clowning/making fun/hating Bruce? 👀
If there's too many (omg is it??), maybe just your faves or those that rlly impacted you
They do!!
I had the post mostly done in my drafts when I saw your ask and decided this was the perfect opportunity to finish it!
BUT I DEFINITELY HAVE MORE!
The tug-of-war between the two groups comes from the fact that Bruce canonically has codependency issues with Dick. He honestly needs his son at all times for everything.
The source of Bruce and Dick's relationship problems all sum up to this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (2016) Issue #7
"I wanted to give him the freedom to make his own choices. To do things his way, even if that meant making mistakes. And then...well, then I blamed him for how difficult it was for me to let him go."
He's so, so proud of Dick but he refuses to release him to be free. When Dick manages to get away Bruce hisses and shrieks in rage and fury and hurt that Dick left. Even those long stints where Dick was ignoring Bruce after being fired or after Jason's death, Bruce never ignored Dick. Sometimes going as far as stalking him like at the circus.
This one is post-Jason, pre-Tim era.
Tumblr media
The New Titans (1988) Issue #61
Ignoring the self-realization backtrack, it's applaudable that Bruce was even able to get those words out at all. Usually it's just heavily implied.
So the reason why Bruce hates the Titans so much is because they're his biggest threat. They have the possibility of taking Dick away from him forever and he's terrified of such a future.
It wasn't originally like this though. In the beginning when Dick said, I'm gonna hang out with the Titans, Bruce'd be like "Sure, Chum, have fun!"
Tumblr media
Teen Titans: The Silver Age Issue #1
But as Dick grew older, there was increasing animosity between the Titans and Bruce. It got so bad that Bruce gave Dick an ultimatum: Me or the Titans. Choose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) Issue #101
"I know, I know...I'm late. Titans Business. We just shut down Brother Blood for...good.."
"Save it."
"Look, I don't know how many hundreds of people we rescued from Blood's cult, but it was a pretty important mission."
"I said save it."
Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) Issue #101
But here's where it gets worse. Bruce and Dick are too busy fighting that they both missed Clayface recovering, obviously in the end they defeat him but neither of them are happy for the oversight which leads to the final scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) Issue #101
Bruce literally fired Dick because he couldn't stand him staying with the Titans.
"Robin is my second...my lieutenant. Anything less that total devotion to this cause is simply wasting my time."
Devotion to the cause or to you, Bruce? He's freaking Batman. He's done solo runs and Dicks done solo runs as Robin just fine but for some reason whenever the Titans are involved, he loses his goddamn mind.
But hey. Bruce isn't the only one who gives Dick an ultimatum.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Titans (1999) Issue #15
Damn, Roy.
He came out swinging with a chainsaw.
Both sides want Dick for themselves. About 80% of the Titans problems with Dick lie in the fact that they want him to have nothing to do with Bruce.
Tumblr media
Batman (2016) Issue #19
Tumblr media
Titans (1999) Issue #15
They just want Dick's priority and loyalty to be to them, undivided. Unfortunately, Bruce expects the very same-only it's for himself.
The Titans get so angry at Dick for going back to Bruce and Bruce gets so mad at Dick for favoring the Titans. But Dick loves both of them so there's literally no winning for him. The successful periods for Dick are when both sides comprise for him.
They're willing to work together to protect him though.
Tumblr media
Titans (2008) Issue #1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Outsiders (2003) Issue #50
The instant de-escalation at protecting the reputation of Nightwing and her girlfriend. Not to mention how it was Batman who wanted to keep the dirt off Dick.
But the issue is, like Victor said,
Tumblr media
Titans East Special
Titans are family.
But Bruce can't bear for Dick to have a family of his own that's not him.

...please tell me Damian is simply super undercover and not just truly that braindead...
Was the last thing Zdarsky read with Damian in it Teen Titans (2016)? Otherwise I can't explain myself where Zdarsky would get the impression from that modern Damian still thinks like this. And even in that comic Damian knew that his father would be extremely against his methods, that was pretty much the point of the book.
I've talked about this...I think it was during Gotham War, but it really sucks how when it's about Tim Zdarsky (and other writers) portray being loyal to Batman as a positive thing, but when Damian is being used it's often portrayed as him being dumb and a terrible Robin. Like, fuck off Zdarksky, Damian knows his father. Only a few months ago he didn't hesitate to stab Insomnia in Bruce's form the second he noticed something was off:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now Damian falls for Zur that easily? Usually this would be an undercover plot, but with how terrible and dumb everyone was in Gotham War I'm really not sure Zdarsky deserves that much trust.
His Damian might just be that dumb/bad and oh, wonderful, the solicitations for June make it sound like Bruce will have to give up on being Batman to get Damian out of Zur's clutches! How exciting! Of course for something negative like that we can't use Tim even though he was the Robin Zdarsky focused on pre-Gotham War, no, Tim can only be used when it's about something positive like saving Bruce
Do these writers think we readers don't pick up on their blatant favoritism?

𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄; erwin smith featuring: erwin smith x captain fem!reader content warning: oral; male receiving, MDNI! hi it's malia: fave one-armed man deserves a bit of aftercare too! requests are open, blessing souls.
the scout regiment returned this morning from another mission. it did not fail, the information about the titans slowly put together a long history book. but the citiziens did not se what those brave soldiers have done for their sake. at least, the time's to watch them leave with multiple groups of cheering soldier and witness the return with less than half of the army caused a shift in their belief.
and while wounded cadets and devastated soldiers mourned their lost friends, captain erwin smith took the blame and insult from each individual. the critism towards his plans, and the foreign words which were used as bad nicknames for a man, who led too many innocents into their deaths. those days of the big return, which kids awaited with glistening eyes and wide smiles, always got the best out of erwin.
slumbered back in the uncomfortable leather of the overused office chair, the commander ran the fleshy fingers through the strands of light blonde. after the many years, he has spent as the leader of the scout regiment, it should have gotten easier to swallow the very unpleasant commentary but instead, it still pained him. like anytime was the first time again.
and you, as his girlfriend and subordinte for the past four years, knew exactly how much those actions and words pained him. much more than he showed, much more than he would accept, and much more than he would have thought. and as his good girl, the good girl of the 13th commander, you attempted to please erwin with all your might, and help him forget about those unknowing wimps, who have never set a foot into the lands behind the wall maria.
which was one of the greatest reasons, why you found yourself underneath his large, mahagony desk. the hem of your skirt laid perfectly mid thigh, your bare knees against the cold floor of his office. one of your soft hands placed on his right thigh, short nails digging into his skin. erwin loved them in a longer version but with the odm gear and the strong hold on the blades, you hated breaking them.
the commander was focused on the letter in front of him. three pieces of paper which came from the government personally to discuss the latest operation. he needed the stress relief. ways, no one else but you were able to give to him. and you complied so easily to his commands, almost falling to your knees and crawling underneath his desk with a simple glance of his.
thick, blonde eyebrows furrowed, a lust-laced groan escaed his stone-cold facade. he was the commander after all, always having to be prepared for a subordinate, cadet or captain, burst into his office with urgent information without knocking.
with just one arm left from a previous fight against a crowd of titans, erwin had a difficult time to make important decisions. decisions which weren't connected to a war plan or the history of their enemies. writing another paragraph for the humans in a position even higher than his rank, or run his fleshy fingers through your hair towards the back of your head to push you down completely. after all, he was done with the teasing pace.
slow kitten licks with the tip of your tongue along the underside of his hard dick. over and over again until your soft, swollen lips wrapped around the tip, sucking for a moment to taste the beads of pre cum which gathered on the red tip. you knew exactly how much it annoyed erwin that he couldn't do a thing about the ways you decided to please him. because hell, he wasn't going to get caught while one of his captain's had his dick deeply buried in their mouth. it would get him fired in not even a second for the misusage of his position and power over the scout regiment.
how lucky, you always knew where the line was drawn between work and privacy. "doing daddy such a favor," erwin praised underneath a harsh inhaled breath, letting his lids slip close for merely a couple of seconds. "now be a good girl for daddy and suck it," the blonde glanced down, a satisfied smirk tugging on the corners of his mouth at the way you looked up at him.
eyes widened, mouth widely spread into a smile and a glimpse of sweet happiness in your beautiful eyes. gosh, he was so lucky for having you, for calling you his very own good girl. and he even realised that more when you obeyed his command, leaning forward and letting his painfully hard dick feel the warmth of your mouth. "won't need long, been too much those past days,"
erwin's mask crumbled under the way, your lips wrapped so tightly around him. moving up and down his dick, warm drops of salvia following your movements and dripping onto his balls and leaving stains on the chair. for a moment, the commander with the ever-resting unsatisfied face was pudding in your very own hands. as all those times before when you were ordered to his office, and sucked him off so good.
he appreciated you, and your help, without a doubt. you would receive more of his attention as soon as he left the office and ended his shift as the commander to be your boyfriend. slowly, his hips snapped up, mirroring the pace of your mouth while letting go off his problems and the scout regiment for seconds. all he wanted was to feel you, focus on you. it was all he needed as his orgasm approached quicker than usual.

Two POVs of Percy & Poseidon in HoO: The Neglectful Parent and the Helping Behind the Scenes Parent
Sometimes I like to think that after Percy returns home from the nightmare that was HoO (and Tartarus) he's big-time angry with Poseidon.
I mean, he was kidnapped, brainwashed and manipulated by Hera (using Annabeth's name no less), and then barely got his memories back before getting thrown into a second war and ended up falling into hell. And when he gets out, he sees Poseidon just casually :) chatting :) with :) Hera :) Like if I was him that would've been my villain origin story. The gods need me to save them? Fuck no. If they're not strong enough (or willing) to protect their own rule and kingdoms, then maybe they shouldn't be ruling at all.
Like I think that pre-hoo Percy and Poseidon were building a good relationship, and Percy would've kept all the gifts that Poseidon gave him (sand dollar aside). Maybe stick some of it up on the wall. Maybe make something, like a family sketch of him, Tyson and Poseidon he commissioned from Rachel. After HoO he's so angry and hurt that he just tears it all down. Rips it to shreds. Sally and Paul hear the racket and come bursting through the door hella worried only to find Percy looking furious with his eyes full of unshed tears with everything that Poseidon gave him (aside from Riptide) in pieces at his feet.
(Meanwhile Poseidon has no idea why his child is so upset. He believed whatever lie or excuse Hera spun to cover her ass and doesn't know how much Percy went through, and he's in for a very rude awakening the next time he tries to talk to Percy).
On the other hand, I like to think that Poseidon was paying attention (as best he could with the Greek-Roman split) and helped Percy out, and its just the fact that Percy had so little POVs that we don't know that Poseidon was in contact and helping out.
Like sure, Poseidon/Neptune wasn't able to help Percy against Polybetes, so he gave Percy power over poison so Percy could protect himself.
Percy fell into Tartarus where Poseidon couldn't reach or help him? He had his power over poison from Poseidon that saved him from Akhlys. Poseidon also went to Hermes and made sure that his temple in Tartarus was constantly stocked with food, and maybe sent a few of his elite Cyclops to find/help Percy since he couldn't go due to the Greek-Roman split + Zeus's rules. The cyclops just weren't able to find Percy because Percy and Annabeth's whole strategy was 'move fast to keep ahead of the hoards of titans/giants/monsters chasing us down,' so while their enemies couldn't catch up with them, neither could their allies.
And then afterward. Its canon that Poseidon appears to Percy in dreams to communicate (SoM), and that he shows up after the big battles to check in with Percy in person to see if he's okay (BoTL) so maybe he did that when Percy was alone in his cabin on the Argo II? Or when he gets back to Sally's apartment after HoO? And Percy just didn't want to tell anyone because 1. all the roman demigods are terrified of Poseidon/Neptune, 2. Annabeth does NOT like Poseidon (or his kids - Percy is the only exception) and they generally don't talk about Poseidon in a family context so why would he tell her, especially after she was scared to tears of his Poseidon given powers and 3. Percy isn't close to any of the other people on the Argo II (Piper - he thinks Percy needs to be controlled - the one thing the sea hates, and Leo - who's terrified of Percy).

When I watched the final episode, I was so overcome by emotion watching Levi’s final salute that I didn’t really notice how much Historia’s monologue / letter had changed from the manga. I had a vague notion it was slightly different but I hadn’t realised just how much it had been changed until I went back and watched it again today.
This is what Historia says in the manga:
Three years have passed since the day known as the Battle of Heaven and Earth.  Those who survived after an unfathomable number of lives were taken are still tormented by unhealing scars.  As the world suffers through their loss, their fears have come true. The Nation of Eldia has formed a so-called army controlled by the Yeagerists, who now focus their efforts on building their military strength. Fearful of retaliation from what is left of humanity on the other side of the sea, the island cries out as one: “If we win we live. If we lose we die. We have to fight to win. Fight. Fight.”  The fight will not end until either Eldia or the world disappears.  That is what Eren said, and perhaps he was right after all. Even so, he chose to leave this world in our hands, and we are alive now, in a world without Titans.
Tumblr media
And this is what she says in the anime:
It’s been three years since the day now known as the Battle of Heaven and Earth, after the loss of an extraordinary number of lives, those who managed to survive surely still suffer from unhealed wounds.  Just as the world, still reeling from loss feared, Eldia formed a military led by the Yeagerists, which gains strength with every passing day. Out of fear of reprisal from the survivors of humanity across the sea the island shouts out with one voice: “If we win we live. If we lose we die. We have to fight to win. Fight. Fight.”  Even with the Titans gone the conflict will not go away.  Eren passed on to me all that he knew of the future.  Though I can not see the future that lies beyond this one, I have been able to see this future clearly. I’m certain this outcome was not the result of Eren’s choices alone.  This world is an outcome wrought by all of our choices.  We must fight, so that we need fight no more.  Even if we should find ourselves living lives divorced from peace.  This isn’t the life he wished for us.  But whether he wished for it or not, it is the life he passed on to us.  How will we live in the reprieve that remains, in this world without Titans.
Tumblr media
The first significant change is that Historia says that Eren passed on to her “all that he knew of the future”.  Tbh, I’m not sure I understand Historia’s character well enough to appreciate the implications of what she knew or didn’t know, so I’ll leave others to interpret that one.
The second change, and the one that concerns me more, is that in the anime Historia explicitly states that Eren isn’t solely to blame for the genocide that devastated humanity, rather it is an outcome brought about by them all.  There is certainly some truth in that.  Eren’s choices are shaped by centuries of war and persecution; the actions of myriad people, from the Founder Ymir onwards, lead to the point that he unleashes the Rumbling.  However I think it’s wrong to imply that everyone was equally responsible for Eren’s genocide, as this shifts culpability from Eren to humanity as a whole.  I am very much not down for this.  I know that Eren claimed that the Founding Titan left him with no choice, that his slaughter of 80% of humanity was pre-ordained, and that nothing he could do would change that outcome, but I still think that he, more than anyone, must bear responsibility for the carnage.

My Favourite Reasons For Why the Great War Started
1. Revolutionary Justice in an Unequal Caste-System Society.
Tumblr media
I adore the IDW comics, it's the second Transformers media I consumed after the franchised Michael Bay films, and let me tell you – I was not expecting all these heavy explorations into bot psyche, romance, societal injustice, and redemption. Really, it seriously surprised me, I never expected to see actual canonical romance in the Transformers universe, it always struck me as the type of medium to focus on action first.
So – thank you, James Roberts and Alex Milne.
There's so many characters and arcs I could talk about – Cyclonus and Tailgate and Whirl; Chromedome and Rewind; poor poor Shockwave; whatever's going on with Prowl; Starscream, Bumblebee, and Windblade attempting to scrape Cybertron back together; that one time Rodimus and Megatron's charisma was so awe-inspiring, it made personality parasites explode – but I want to focus on how the Great War began in IDW.
It's the first media to suggest Megatron not as a power-hungry tyrant, but formerly as a member of Cybertron's suppressed working class forced to labour due to the alt-mode he was born with. Sick of and unwilling to accept the subjugation imposed upon him and fellow mechs like him, Megatron rises from miner to gladiator who eventually becomes powerful enough to seize power as a revolutionary and then ascends to the image of the all-mighty Lord Megatron that is synonymous with his name.
Optimus, on the other hand, had somewhat humble beginnings as a strict but fair and righteous police captain named Orion Pax struggling to provide justice in a society deeply embedded with corruption.
Although both Megatron and Optimus sought to revolutionise Cybertron into a world where all bots are equal and uninhibited from potential and free will by their alt-modes, they had very different ideologies and motivations on how and why to reach this goal. Megatron, especially, loses his way and path eventually, and continued his slaughter not for the means to an end, but because he began to crave the "pleasure" from the act.
Tumblr media
Optimus didn't escape unscathed from tragic ramifications either: the mantle of leadership as the war dragged on for thousands of millennia weighed heavily upon him, so much that his later psyche in the comics could be described as suicidal.
But whatever that infects these two old bots in the future, young Megatron and Optimus were, in some strange way, allies, out of mutual respect and acknowledgement of the other if nothing else.
Tumblr media
The war was initiated and continued by them, because they both believed in a better Cybertron, and millions of years later, thousands of atrocities after, unspeakable acts of war crimes, the Great War ended with both of them remembering what they were fighting for in the first place.
IDW's concept that Megatron was a gladiator turned revolutionary and Orion Pax became Optimus Prime who was inspired by Megatron's words made its way to the Transformers: Prime animated series, allowing this universe's rendition of the two titans to be voiced by Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, the legends themselves.
2. Lord Prime and Lord High Protector
Tumblr media
Whatever contentions (of the many) that may be had with Michael Bay's re-imagining of this iconic franchise; you've gotta admit: the designs were cool.
Bay gave us Megatron's ram-head helmet, the astonishing CGI transformations, and the adorable Bumblebee design that has since become a classic of the character.
And according to Chris McFeely's video on the Great War, apparently, Bay's Transformers is the first Transformers media to introduce the idea that Megatron and Optimus had personal pre-war relations, some intimate form of brotherhood and camaraderie, while other adaptations at this point only alluded to their connection as rival leaders who rose to power at roughly the same time.
Bay took it a step further; Megatron isn't simply an opportunistic warlord making a grab for power, he was once a legitimate ruler holding an equal throne besides Optimus.
Tumblr media
That's right, Bay crafted the title of Lord High Protector, a Cybertronian ruler of high status with authority over military affairs, ruling in tandem with the Lord Prime, Optimus, who was in charge of more civilian and spiritual duties.
It's interesting, this idea, because it implies far more depth to Optimus and Megatron's history, they must have been ruling together for quite some time before Megatron fastened his greedy claws on the All Spark.
I, for one, am curious in a series that explores how they ruled Cybertron together and how exactly this fracture came to be.
3. Megatron Dunks on a Dock Worker for the Fun of It
Tumblr media
The classics of the classics, the first Transformers show to place the universe on the map: the archetypal G1 cartoon series that featured wacky shenanigans such as battling dinosaurs on a remote island or Soundwave and his Cassettes dancing with teenagers at a local gymnasium party.
G1 followed a very traditional hero-vs-villain formula, inspired by the Cold War tension at the time of airing and writing; there was no personal connections or noble aspirations for an equal society – Megatron was simply a campy, formidable scoundrel who yearned for power and Optimus Prime was the honourable, paternal everyday hero who rose to be the leader of the force resisting him and his army (at this point, Prime wasn't even a title, it was just Optimus' last name!).
Optimus Prime still had a previous form of Orion Pax, a dock worker rather than a police officer or an archivist, and Megatron was once an admired figure of Orion's, whose parasocial adoration was disintegrated when Megatron blew up Orion's workplace, critically injuring him and girlfriend, Ariel (soon to be Elita-1), and de-activating best friend, Dion. From the ashes of destruction, reconstructed by Alpha Trion, Orion became the battle-masked, audial-finned, red and blue paragon of justice that shouldered the burden of command in the war against Megatron and his evil Deceptions.

Do you have any recommendations on Dr. Who books/audio format things? I haven't watched the show in a bit because Moffat wasn't my thing and I can't seem to find the old stuff. (If you have any advice on where to find that too I would be very grateful) Following your blog has been a nice reminder of why I liked the show so much. Hope you have a good day!
Aw thank you! Depending on your location, you can find classic who episodes either on BBC iPlayer or Tubi (with ads).
As for books/audios, I'll try to keep this brief as I could write an essay on this.
For books, my favorite author is Kate Orman. Orman writes wonderfully, and my personal favorite is The Year of the Intelligent Tigers. I also really liked Goth Opera, Camera Obscure, History 101, Autumn Mist, Lungbarrow, Divided Loyalties, Somewhere Never etc etc etc etc (so many more but I'm forcing myself to stop here). You can often find free versions of basically every novel (at least all I've looked for) on the internet either as pdfs or epubs or whatever. The Internet Archive is particularly useful. Some examples:
And now for the audios! I personally have sold my soul to Big Finish. I have literally hundreds of recommendations. They do have some audios for free, such as those that came from the Paul Spragg Memorial Competition. You can also find a lot of them (up until Zagreus I think) for free on Spotify. There is also almost always a killer sale going on on the website on top of that too.
As for my recommendations, it's pretty dependent on what Doctor or companion you want to listen to. They even have series centered on UNIT, Romana's Gallifrey, Benny Summerfield, and a ton of other things (including a Masterful special that just had a bunch of Masters fucking around and finding out). I'll put in some of my favorites, one for each Doctor, from what I own (which is far from everything, but I do my best).
One: The Sontarans. It was the first time the Doctor had ever encountered the Sontarans, so he was unfamiliar with them. It takes place during Dalek Master Plan, so Steven and Sara are there.
Two: Lords of the Red Planet! It's a good Ice Warrior origin story and has Jamie and Zoe in it. :)
Three: Terror of the Master. I had pre-ordered it as soon as I heard about it. Three....Delgado Master....what more do you want from an audio? It's narrated by Jon Culshaw.
Four: The Wrath of the Iceni. It was a brilliant historical with Four and Leela and Boudica. Leela gets quite a lesson in this one, first being mad at Four for not helping Boudica and then at Boudica for being cruel.
Okay now we are getting into my favorite Doctors (5-8), so these decisions are going to get difficult.
Five: The Kingmaker! Shakespeare spikes Five's drink to get him absolutely wasted to sneak on the TARDIS, the TARDIS gets hiccups as a result, leading to Peri and Erimem being separated from the Doctor. Shenanigans ensue.
Six: Doctor Who and the Pirates. Six and Evelyn have a really meaningful discussion with one of her depressed students. The third part is a musical!
Seven: The Shadow of the Scourge. Benny Ace and Seven against 8th dimensional eldritch abominations. Seven gets turned into one of these insectoids, and body horror ensues.
Eight: Oh dear I can't choose. At the moment, probably the Great War from Dark Eyes 1. Eight meets Molly and is still grieving here. He is very much doomed by the narrative.
War: The Neverwhen. Lots of the War Doctor is good if you like Time War horror, but this one has a lot of time-as-a-weapon and is well written.
Nine: Battle Scars. A nice short story about that one family Nine saved from the Titanic mentioned in the episode Rose. Has a really fantastic girl in it and a Nine dripping in PTSD.
Ten: The Time Reaver. Ten and Donna! There's this gun that basically slows down time for a single person, so that a few minutes for everyone else is centuries for them. Ten is a self sacrificing dope.
Eleven: The Geronimo boxset is the best in my opinion, but I haven't been able to listen to many of these yet.
Twelve: Another one I haven't managed to buy a lot of yet, but Dead Media is amazing. It's written to sound like a podcast with adverts and everything and is set during his time at St. Luke's. And I cried at the end.
Anyway, I'll shut up now. This was so much fun! Thank you!

I had a thought after reading your Child of Hera demigod hcs, I feel like Hebe would take her demigod half-sibling to the Garden of Hesperides to protect them from Lamia, what do you think?
Aforementioned Child of Hera Headcanons: [LINK]
I think it could work but there are a few things to consider if you want this to work within the PJO universe and ‘canon’ plotline:
Tumblr media
PRE-(SECOND) TITAN WAR: I don’t think it would work as well as you might think in this timeline as the canon plot of the entire Percy Jackson and the Olympian series starts. This is because in the 3rd book “The Titan’s Curse”, we see the Garden of Hesperides; where Zoe Nightshade and Percy have to get past the garden and the Hesperides and Ladon to get to Annabeth, Artemis, and fight Atlas. I could see it being a plot point where if Hebe did indeed take Hera-Demigod to the Garden, where its all good for a bit, but until the wars begins to form and either the Hera-demigod is threatened by the Titans and Luke; either manipulated to join them against the gods, kidnapped and held hostage, and etc. It could be another plot point adding in that Luke would notice the Hera-demigod when he went to pick the golden apples from the quest by Hermes. He would be surprised like anyone that Hera would have a demigod but also furious/jealous that why does the Hera-demigod get to be taken by their godly sibling and sheltered in the Garden of Hesperides from the monsters while everyone other demigod is forgotten and left to fight/die by the monsters. I can also see this being used as fuel for Luke to convince the unclaimed demigods about how unfair the gods are and potentially, make the other children angry at the gods and the Hera-demigod for the clear favouritism. The children of Hebe, those who were unclaimed then and those later would still feel bitter at Hebe and Hera-demigod even more-so. If the Hera-demigod hasn’t run-away due to the dangers and Lamia hot on her heels after learning after her location from the war, I can see the child of Hera either being a quest to be rescued and escorted to camp or where they have to fight their way to safety to either camps. The Hesperides would’ve been forced to let go the child of Hera from their protection and care either by Atlas, Luke, the Titan army, etc, either way.
POST TITAN WAR: The part where the children of Hebe being bitter at Hebe and the Hera-demigod would still be relevant; regardless Hebe brought her mortal sibling on her own accord or on the command of Hera. Cause, regardless of the time it takes place, the animosity would still apply. There’s also the addition that while the child of Hera may not be officially part of the “Big Three”, they’re still around that level and just as dangerous and powerful. So there’s a big plot point of why the Hera-demigod is allowed to be sheltered at the Garden and being the exception and everyone’s emotions to it. However long they may be there for, they can’t stay there forever. Whether it’s because of the age and the Garden unable to protect them much longer, the Titans, or what have you, they still have to get to Camp to properly learn, be safe, and most importantly, be able to live. Even Lupa couldn’t/wouldn’t keep any of the child Demigods in their care for that long before they have to set foot outside. So again with the Quest thing where certain heroes have to rescue/escort the Hera-demigod to Camp, facing Lamia, and etc. There’s also the whole thing to consider where they were for the whole Second Giant War; especially with the whole involvement of Hera/Juno with Percy and Jason, Frank Zhang and his life tied to the stick of wood, etc etc.
Overall, it’s a good premise and opens up to a lot of fanfic if people ever so desired to write it. If I was in a position to write a long fanfic about it, I would go about it either way. The Hera-demigod would still function as a hero that Hera would have to use in her quests and stuff, so I don’t think keeping them in the Garden could be a long term thing anyways. There’s also the addition that the child of Hera won’t be alone in either pre- or post-titan war; because if Zoe Nightshade is added in as one of the Hesperides, then I don’t see why not have another Hesperides around that goes on to accompany/protect the Hera-demigod because they got attached. There are a whole lists of variations of the named Hesperides and how many they are, so you have your pick of names.
Thanks for the lovely idea and the ask!

I really like your thoughts about the China/Korea/Japan dynamic! :) I’m just curious, have you thought about how Vietnam factors in there? I find her connection to China and how similar their cultures are given that Vietnam is considered part of the Sinosphere and was even ruled by China for awhile super interesting
vietnam and china...this is literally my great-grandma and great-grandpa i am not joking 😔 but yes, i have! this is the way i see it:
Lien (my human name for her) totally does not respect Yao the way yong-soo and kiku have at various points in history as a sort of cultural wellspring (the old master and his rival apprentices dynamic; kiku is of course, that regicidal protege who both respects and is later contemptuous of his teacher). For Lien, i feel like in contrast, that's just never been a thing for her and for good reason. first of all: why should she lmao...she has a very strong claim to be as old as he is! they are peers in age. so, she is not quite in the same category as yong-soo and kiku. she will recognise him as a threat that has to be taken seriously, though, of course, which brings me to the next point.
second of all, there's a long history of chinese imperialism over vietnam; over a span of 1,500 years, multiple chinese dynasties have conquered vietnam (not necessarily the whole of its modern territory, but often the northern regions), whilst the vietnamese rebelled against that again and again—like the famous trung sisters, who led a revolt against the han dynasty, after two centuries of chinese rule. so, we need to be mindful that conquest is where some of those cultural similarities come from to begin with; chinese influence due to cultural domination, mixing with pre-existing elements of vietnamese culture. ancient vietnamese and chinese culture have very distinct origins otherwise; the sinosphere is as much about cultural diffusion as it is conquest.
thirdly; Lien may have thought of Yao as an arrogant and ambitious asshole because of the long, long list of wars they’ve fought against each other, but...they're not totally opposites either. because she's had her own ambitions and tensions with neighbours. here, i'm melding the historic vietnamese conquest of the southern kingdom of champa into her personal history. Lien is a woman, whom as i see it, can appear very elegant in a formal ao dai—but her fingers are callused because she's been a general and a swordswoman for such a long time (wielding weapons like maybe a gươm truòng, which is a type of long-handled vietnamese sabre) —and in the modern era during the rebellions against french and japanese colonialism, she's been a spy and a sniper too. as a woman who is an ancient nation, i think she often regards yao when he attempts to intimidate with a cool demeanour: yao may be THE regional titan, but he is such a familiar enemy it’s almost like an old dance—whereas kiku and francis and alfred, are even more so, boys playing at being men in her eyes. she might not have their power as regional or global empires, but she has experience, and she's outlasted much more.

Warrior Princess in Exile
Tumblr media
Link: https://www.heroforge.com/load_config%3D46566089/
As mentioned a while back, I'm planning a spin-off of sorts to The First Empress, starring Viarra's mom, the Warrior-Princess Lutaxa of the Andegamni tribe. Lutaxa's people are based on the ancient Celtic tribes, and in particular the Pre-Roman Gauls. My working title for the story is Warrior Princess in Exile, though I'm open to other names. I finished the first full scene earlier and thought I'd share it here. As always, feedback and comments are welcome!
“Though she was mother of one of the most powerful women in the world, Lutaxa of the Andegamni was never crowned queen of anywhere. Technically she was princess-consort of Kel Fimmaril when she gave birth to the future Empress Viarraluca and her brothers. Meanwhile, she was more of a warlord or war-chief to the Andegamni tribe than queen. As Iron-Age Gannic tribes rarely kept a calendar, we can’t know for sure when she was born, though sometime in late 55 or early 54 BE seems most probable. While Empress Viarra was famous for her gargantuan height, we know that Princess Lutaxa was slightly taller, and like her daughter was also famous for her bright copper hair. She was reputed to have a will like iron and an edge like obsidian. And although she wasn’t present for Viarra’s famous usurpation of the Hegemony of Andivel that began the great empress’s rise to power, we know from accounts by Viarra and her colleagues that Lutaxa was a mighty warrior-princess in her own right and bequeathed both her martial prowess and political savvy to her Titan of a daughter.” —from Empress Viarraluca: Life of a Titan, by Zahnia, the Chronicler
35 BE, Early Summer
Part of her wishing she didn’t have to wear this bronze helmet and scale-armor on the most humid day of the summer so far, Princess Lutaxa of the Andegamni tribe took a swig from her water-skin as she watched the approaching scout riders. She wiped sweat from her eyes, trying not to smear her blue and black war-paint more than it already was. The weather wasn’t even particularly warm, but the inescapable moisture in the air bordered on oppressive.
“What d’ye report?” she demanded as the scouts rejoined the rest of the four-hundred-warrior war-band.
“Is like ye grandfather predicted,” a tall, shirtless spear-warrior named Velitax reported from his horse. “The traitor Cenali and their allies send another war-band tae attack our fortifications from behind.”
“Up the old wagon road?” Chief Adgenix—Lutaxa’s second-cousin and Grandfather’s master-of-horse—asked as he trotted up beside her.
“Aye,” a brigandine-clad shield-maiden named Cavarixa confirmed, nudging her horse closer. “We think seven-hundred strong.”
“From clothes and the crimson war-paint, I recognized their guides from the Iatta tribe,” Velitax added.
“So much for the Iatta’s claims of neutrality,” Adgenix groused behind his long, droopy brown mustache.
“Or maybe they have traitors of their own,” Lutaxa offered. “Grandfather, Father, and the others can piece that together when the Cenali and their allies are defeated. For now, let’s deal wi’ these foes so we can get back tae Grandfather and the rest of the army!”
“Aye, Princess,” Adgenix nodded, grinning and thumping his fist against his bronze breastplate.
“I’ll take the shield-warriors and hunters and hit their vanguard’s flank, while ye take ye horse-warriors and hit their rear as hard as ye can,” Lutaxa ordered. “Let’s see if we cannae smash the rest of their war-band between us and drive them back intae the forest.”
“Aye!” Adgenix grinned again. The scouts rode off with him to rejoin the rest of his seventy-odd cavalry-warriors.
Hefting her shield and spear in her left hand and two javelins in her right with her broadsword dangling from her hip, Lutaxa gave a quick, sharp whistle to signal the rest of her warriors to move out. Her copper hair was twisted up into a topknot and tucked under her conical bronze helmet. The helmet included hinged cheek-flaps to protect her face and a short, angled brim to deflect arrows away from her head. Painted dark blue with wolf-like devices, her wooden shield was tall and oval-shaped, held behind a central bronze boss. Under her scale armor, Lutaxa wore a maroon-dyed, long-sleeved wool shirt with crimson, navy, and pine-colored checkered pants. Lastly, she wore soft-leather ankle-boots to partly muffle her steps.
The wealthier warriors and shield-maids in her band were armed and dressed similarly, some with leather brigandine or bronze plate instead of scales or with tall, hexagonal shields instead of oval. Most of these warriors were either nobles who could afford to buy armor and spend most of their time training or were veterans who’d used spoils from past victories to buy armor and better weapons.
Most of her warriors, however, were conscripted farmers and tradespeople who wore little if any armor and carried either tall oval shields or more often simple round-shields. These warriors usually carried a single spear and a few javelins with maybe a dagger, hatchet, or cudgel as a sidearm. Hunters and huntresses conscripted into Grandfather’s army served as ranged support and typically carried either a longbow or shield and sling with sidearms similar to the poorer warriors. Though the conscripts’ training ranged from rudimentary to nonexistent, the Gannic tribes were a naturally strong and hardy people made mightier by harsh northern winters.
All shades of brown, black, blonde, red, or copper could be found among Gannic hair colors. Northern Gan tended to wear their hair long and wild, twisting it into topknots before going into battle. Though younger men sometimes grew short beards and older men often grew long beards, the more common facial hair was beardless with long, drooping mustaches. And while it varied from tribe to tribe, many men and women also plucked or shaved their body hair during the spring and summer.
Most Gannic shield-warriors and shield-maidens wore war-paint and dyed wool garments plain or with striped, checkered, tartan, diamond, or herring-bone patterns—though fighters who went shirtless were not uncommon. Zealots of warlike gods such as Vindicatus or Atepu were known to fight with only their weapons and war-paint. As in, no clothes: just spears, swords, and shields, with scrotums or snatches bared to all.
While Lutaxa could appreciate the courage it took to charge into battle stark-naked as well as the harrowing effect that screaming, painted nudists could have on enemy morale, such zealots tended to fight bravely and die quickly.
Admittedly, her war-band was a far cry from the disciplined, semi-professional Venarri armies and mercenary Tollesian phalanxes she’d encountered during the two years she’d spent fighting as a mercenary for the Venarri kingdoms and city-states to the south. The Tollesian hoplite sell-spears had been particularly impressive, with their tall spears and bronze or linothorax armor, and Lutaxa remembered being relieved her warriors were fighting beside them instead of against them.
Uncle and Grandfather had used the pay and spoils their tribe acquired from those campaigns to fund this war against the treacherous Cenali. After two years of campaigning, Grandfather—the great War-Chief Camulatix—had forced their foes into a grand showdown at the fortified village of Carix. Expecting the Cenali to send a flanking force around the nearby mountain to attack the village from the west while the main Cenali horde attacked the eastern and southeastern fortifications, Grandfather had assigned Lutaxa’s war-band to locate and ambush this force.
Creeping amid the trees a quarter-mile south of Carix’s stone- and palisade walls, Lutaxa located the wagon-road that she knew the Cenali would be using. Crouching with her warriors amid the tall grass, brush, pines, and other foliage, she readied her javelins and war-horn for the enemy’s arrival. Minutes later, she could hear the tramping of horses’ hooves amid the muttering and footfalls of leather-booted or barefoot warriors.
Crouching nearby, a stark-naked shield-maid named Saglia made a low growling noise as the first invaders came into view. Daughters of Atepu—followers and priestesses of the divine patroness of women warriors, huntresses, and jilted brides—were known to be particularly fearsome, painting their bodies in garish designs and bleaching their hair with lime. Saglia muttered a war-chant to herself, wearing only her blue-and-crimson war-paint, her bleached hair twisted into a topknot that dangled above her right ear.
Armed, clad, and painted similarly to Lutaxa’s war-band, the Cenali vanguard consisted of a few dozen mounted warriors mixed with shield-warriors and hunters. The Gan tending to be a fairly tall people with a lengthy stride, these warriors maintained a steady, mile-eating pace in order to reach their destination quickly and still have enough stamina to fight.
Once the enemy war-band came parallel to her group, Lutaxa raised her war-horn to her lips and blasted out the attack signal. All at once, her band let out their savage battle-cry and loosed their javelins, arrows, and sling-stones into the enemy’s unshielded right flank. Throwing both javelins before charging in, Lutaxa grinned as the first javelin took a rider from his horse while the second tore into a spear-warrior’s leg. The melee warriors led the charge, screaming and shouting as they engaged the startled invaders.
Using the slope to her advantage, Lutaxa screeched a battle-cry her mother taught her and rushed down upon a cavalry-warrior who was trying to get his frightened horse under control. Not giving him the chance, she shoved her spear deep into his kidney. The warrior screamed and fell from his horse, bleeding heavily. The horse responded by freaking out and charging off into the pines.
Lutaxa turned just in time to deflect a spear-thrust with her tall shield. The unarmored spear-maid facing against her managed to block Lutaxa’s return attack but found herself forced to back off as another of Lutaxa’s warriors attacked her unshielded side. Unable to handle the press of the Andegamni warriors, the young spear-maid tripped backward over one of her fallen comrades.
The spear-maid had beautiful golden hair, Lutaxa decided, and could potentially be a valuable battle-captive. Instead of stabbing her to finish her off, Lutaxa flipped her spear around to smack the woman in the temple to knock her out.
As the shield-warriors assailed the vanguard, the hunters, slingers, and javelin-warriors still amid the trees turned their missiles toward the middle of the enemy column, not yet engaged. Lutaxa smirked as two enemy warriors dropped their weapons and ran into the pines on the other side of the wagon-road.
Using her height and the leverage it gave her, Lutaxa punched her shield downward against an enemy shield, staggering the shirtless warrior backward. As the warrior stumbled, she used the opening she’d created to stab her spear deep into his chest.
Around her, the enemy vanguard crumbled at her warriors’ assault, more and more survivors fleeing into the trees. Screaming out another battle-cry, Lutaxa stepped over her fallen enemy to engage a grizzled warrior in what looked like an older bronze breastplate looted from a Venarri foe. The enemy warrior snarled and threw a javelin from less than ten feet away before drawing his broadsword and charging. Lutaxa knocked the javelin aside with her shield before side-stepping his charge and stabbing out with her spear. The spear struck less than an inch too low to catch the warrior’s unprotected armpit, instead deflecting off his bronze cuirass.
As the warrior turned to face Lutaxa, however, the shield-maiden Saglia shrieked out a war-cry and threw her spear into the side of the bronze-clad warrior’s head. Though the spear wasn’t balanced for throwing and the older warrior’s helmet deflected the attack, it knocked him off balance enough that Lutaxa could shove her spear deep into the bastard’s neck.
Lutaxa decided to include seducing Saglia as part of her victory celebration. Meanwhile, Saglia drew her broadsword and raced forward to pounce shield-first on another enemy warrior, tackling him to the ground and stabbing him repeatedly as she frothed at the mouth.
As Lutaxa’s war-band continued to cut their way through the enemy warriors and hunters, a cry came from the back of the enemy mob that they were under attack from both sides.
“Horse-warriors!” an enemy shouted. “We’re attacked from behind!”
Tall enough to easily look over the heads of the struggling Cenali warriors, Lutaxa smirked at the sight of Adgenix’s cavalry scattering the enemy rear-guard. Beset from two sides, the Cenali and their allies stood less than a minute before their horde broke. Lutaxa stabbed through a javelin-hunter’s defenses, her steel spear cutting deep through his chest and pinning the bastard to the ground as he fell. Drawing her broadsword, Lutaxa looked about to see the enemy scattering.
“Chase the fockers tae the river!” Lutaxa screamed to her warriors, a victory cheer going up from their ranks.
In a victorious frenzy, her war-band charged headlong after their routing foes, cavalry taking the lead and trampling deep into the disintegrating enemy war-band. Lutaxa and her shield-warriors chased down and cut down or captured every fleeing Cenali they could catch while her hunters and javelin-warriors lobbed their projectiles at retreating backs.
A deep river flowed less than a quarter-mile to the south of the wagon-road. Venarri merchants she’d met had a name for the river, but Lutaxa couldn’t recall it. Swift and bloated from the spring melt-off, the river was over an eighth of a mile across and was unfordable this time of year. Nevertheless, many Cenali warriors threw down their arms as well as armor if they wore it, leaping into the swift waters to escape the Andegamni warriors’ retribution. Many others threw down their weapons and surrendered.
Lutaxa estimated perhaps two hundred enemies struggling in the swift current. A few hunters lobbed arrows or sling stones after the escaping swimmers. At least one enemy warrior screamed as an arrow stuck deep in his back. The poor bastard screamed and thrashed, bleeding heavily as the current carried him off.
“Save ye arrows!” Lutaxa ordered, sheathing her sword and breathing hard from the battle adrenaline. “Any fockers can make it across deserve tae escape. Ye,” she continued, turning to a surrendering enemy spear-maid in leather brigandine and a bronze-rimmed leather cap. “Who’s in charge of ye war-band?”
“Fock if I ken,” the red-haired, freckled warrior admitted as one of Lutaxa’s warriors took her sword and dagger and another bound the woman’s hands. “I watched ye slay Chief Vocorix with ye own spear. I dinnae ken who’s left in charge after him.” She titled her head. “Ye are Princess Lutaxa, aye?”
“Aye,” Lutaxa confirmed. So the grizzled warrior that Saglia helped her slay must have been their war-chief.
“Ye reputation precedes ye,” the spear-maid nodded. “I suppose Chief Vocorix dinnae expect ye Chief Camulatix tae send his mightiest grandchild tae fight us.”
“Flattery will get ye everywhere,” Lutaxa smirked, raising the woman’s chin with two fingers. The spear-maid was handsome and brawny, probably in her thirties and looked like an experienced fock. Maybe Saglia would like tae share a battle-captive tonight, she mused to herself.
“Secure the prisoners and round up our wounded and theirs!” she barked to her war-band. “Adgenix,” she added, addressing him and handing the captive spear-maid off to her warriors. “Have ye horse-warriors stay alert in case any Cenali who escaped try anything. Once we’ve secured the captives and wounded, ride ye horse-fockers back tae Grandfather’s horde, see if ye cannae help the battle there. We’ll catch up tae ye.”
“Aye,” Chief Adgenix smirked before turning his mount to gather his horse-warriors.
When she was around fourteen winters old, Lutaxa rode her first battles with Adgenix’s cavalry—back when she was still small enough and light enough to ride in combat. While still a proficient horsewoman, her size and weight tended to reduce her mounts’ speed and stamina significantly, especially when riding with full armor and kit. As such, she tended to prefer to lead the charge beside the shield-and-spear warriors.
“Make any looting quick, loves!” Lutaxa added, watching a young spear-warrior conscript trying on a bronze helmet from a dead Cenali warrior. “If needed, we can loot them more thoroughly when we come back tomorrow tae gather our dead.”
A few nearby warriors grumbled, but not loudly.
“Saglia!” Lutaxa announced upon spotting her new favorite Daughter of Atepu. “Thank ye for ye help fighting they war-chief, love!”
“Aye, ye are most welcome, ye highness!” Saglia laughed, stripping a bronze dagger with an antennae-style crossguard and pommel from a dead warrior. From another corpse she took a leather bag full of what sounded like knucklebones. She scrounged a leather cord to tie both, since being naked she didn’t even have a belt to tuck them into.
“As thanks, would ye care tae celebrate by sharing a battle-captive or two with me tonight?” Lutaxa asked, kneeling to help up an allied warrior with a leg-wound.
“That sounds fun!” Saglia agreed, moving to support the warrior’s other side. “I will warn ye,” she added, “I have focked three men tae death, so dinnae bring any captives ye want tae keep alive.”
“I cannae tell if ye are serious,” Lutaxa observed, looking over the wounded warrior’s head at her.
“Aye, she’s serious,” the injured spearman nodded, limping between them. “One of them was my poor, stupid cousin who heard she focked two men tae death and decided tae try her anyway. Dumb bastard died from a broken pelvis.”
“Aye, two men died from broken pelvises, the other from a ruptured bladder,” Saglia added. “Several others were injured for weeks.”
“I killed a man in bed, but he was an assassin sent by the Cenali,” Lutaxa admitted. “He disguised himself as a bed-slave tae get close tae me. I was a bit surprised when he drew a knife, but he was even more surprised when I swatted his knife away with one hand and broke his neck with the other before he could react,” she added, flexing her huge left hand. “Any of ye injured partners women?” she asked next.
“Nae sae much,” Saglia shook her head. “Focking a lass needs a different technique and motions, aye? Lads get hurt, but lasses just cannae walk straight for days.”
“I think ye and I will get on great,” Lutaxa laughed.

trust (1/2)
prompt fill: pre-heroes of olympus
Nico and Jason first met when Nico was ten, almost eleven, and Jason was twelve. They grew close over the years, Nico never staying long but always coming back. Jason, never ready to leave but always happy to wait.
Some weeks after the second titan war, Jason figures out Nico is Greek and has been hiding evidence of the Greek camp.
Rightfully, Jason is upset. He confronts Nico, demanding an explanation. He wants to know if he can still trust Nico to be on Camp Jupiter's— Jason's— side if he's been playing both teams for years at this point.
Jason isn't actually so upset that Nico is a double agent. He's more upset that, despite years of being close, Nico could still hide something this huge, this prevalent in his life, from Jason.
Jason has poured his heart out to Nico. He'd told him about his time with Lupa, about a life he'd imagined with a sister he wasn't sure he had. Jason thought Nico had poured everything out to him too— his latent memories of his mother, his old God, Bianca.
Nico insists to him, voice desperate, "I'll never lie to you. Never."
"You'll never lie to me? Prove it," Jason bites out. He can barely speak with the wet rage clogging his throat. His vision is cloudy with tears, but he stares straight into Nico, like it would kill him to look away. "Tell me now. Do you love me?"
Nico freezes.
Teach me about trust, Jason's eyes say.
Can I trust you to be honest? Can I trust that the time we've spent together meant something more to you? Can I trust that you love me?
And Nico had just said it, hadn't he? With his whole heart, with every count of his ribs, he told Jason he could trust him.
He looks into Jason's eyes. Nico's got a bare second to make a choice.
The way he was raised? The closed doors of Venice, the heavy hands, his own personal God at the front of the room? Or his vow?
Nico swallows it all down, and yet when he speaks, it feels like everything he has is coming back up into the wind again.
"I love you. Trust me when I say I love you."

Percy Jackson & Paul Blofis
Titan War, Violence, Angst
Because even though the movies get it all wrong, Paul Blofis knows. War is war, and seeing those demigods fighting for their lives, seeing the fallen on the ground, made him finally understand. This wasn't a dream, but a cruel reality where Good and Evil clashed in a bloody battle. This wasn't a book where Good always won. This was a real war. It was reality. His stepson's reality.

“I think that’s Percy Jackson!” “Who?” Sarah rolled her eyes. “The kid who jumped off the St Louis arch years ago, and then there was all that weirdness,” she added, waving her hands for effect, “with a kidnapping or something.” “Oh, the one that’s a demigod?” “Yeah,” she said. She still wasn’t sure if she believed in gods or demigods, but it was hard to deny it at this point. Monsters and worse walked among them, and Sarah hated it. At first, she’d thought it was some strange publicity stunt for an upcoming show or movie—studios had done stranger things to draw crowds, after all—but she knew better now. Gods were real, and so were monsters. ... After the Second Giant War, the Mist falls. The results aren't what anyone expected.

Anna wasn't sure what to think of Percy Jackson, truth be told, having only met him twice. She adored her daughter in law Sally and her little granddaughter, but there was something about Percy that put her on edge. She had no idea what - he was a kind boy, eager to help with his baby sister when most teenagers would run for the hills and clearly adored his mother - but there was just something about him, something about his too-bright eyes that made her feel uneasy. ~~~ Or, Paul's parents are taking care of Estelle for a few days. When picking her up, they meet Percy again as well as his older brother (what was his name? Tri?). At this point, Anna just wants to know what the dad looks like to have kids that look like THIS. Especially when, several days later, they meet the stepmother as well.

“Just talk to him.” Cody blinked. He could do a lot of things, but approaching Percy Jackson and just talking to him was not one of those things. “We can’t just go and talk to him!” Aida yelped, shifting nervously in her seat. Cody agreed. Percy Jackson was nothing if not intimidating. He’d done so much for Camp Jupiter and walked with more gods than Cody could begin to fathom. There were even rumours that Jupiter (or, Cody supposed, Zeus) had offered him godhood when he’d only been sixteen. Everyone in New Rome knew he spent time in his father’s realm below the sea, and even the Praetors seemed to defer to him at times. No. Cody couldn’t just go up and talk to Percy Jackson. He could only see half of Percy's face, and even that at a distance, but there was no mistaking the lazy smirk he was wearing, or the way his arms were casually folded across his chest. He wasn't scared of this guy, which didn't make a lick of sense, because just the guy's voice was scaring Giovanni. What could the rest of him look like? "Don't play stupid, kid, it ain't a good look for you. You know good and well what you did." A sudden thud shook the wood of the old dock, making it creak and sway and causing bits of plank to fall. When the dust cleared, Giovanni bit down hard on his tongue to stop himself from gasping, because now that he could see both people above him, he wasn't sure the person opposite Percy was, in fact, human. In which Giovanni learns that there is such a thing as knowing too much about the world around him...

Dick Grayson Reading Guide Part 1: Robin
I got a request to do a Dick Grayson reading guide, so that's what this is. This isn't going to be an exhaustive list of every issue he's in, just stories I think are good and/or important to read to get him. This website is good if you want to know every issue a character has appeared in, at least pre-Flashpoint: https://dcuguide.com/w/Chronologies
These won't be in publication order, but in chronological order for Dick's life. Due to the nature of comics published over many decades, some of these may have minor contradictions or differences in characterization, but they're all worth reading in my opinion. Some of these were unfortunately written by creators who many will not feel comfortable supporting. To that I say, there are ways to find comics second hand, or read without supporting particular creators.
Robin:
Tumblr media
Batman: Dark Victory
This to me is the definitive Dick Grayson origin, though he doesn't show up until the second half of the story. That said, it is one of the best Batman stories ever written, and its version of Robin's origin has been repeated in several other tellings.
Tumblr media
Batman Chronicles: The Gauntlet
This is a nice little one off story, chronicling Dick Grayson's graduation from training. Batman puts him through one last test to see if he is ready to hit the streets as Robin. It also leads very nicely into the next story.
Tumblr media
Batgirl/Robin: Year One
This is actually two stories collected into one trade, with Robin's set first. It chronicles his first year as Robin after running The Gauntlet. Big themes you'll see are Dick and Bruce having a rocky start, and Dick balancing life as a normal kid with life as a vigilante. Alfred narrates, and offers a lot of introspection on whether being Robin is really good for Dick. Batgirl's story takes place next, and while Babs is the main character, Robin plays a major part in getting Bruce to accept her into their war on crime.
Tumblr media
Teen Titans: Year One
This is the story of the first time the Titans met and teamed up, and shows their growing pains. It illustrates what each member brings to the table, shows the difference in their relationships to their mentors, and shows the difference between Robin with Batman and Robin with the Titans. Bruce comes off a little harsh in this one, which some might find off-putting, but I think it makes sense for his character. He's protective, and not particularly good at communicating.
Tumblr media
The New Teen Titans
This is the oldest book on the list, and a classic. If you're fond of the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon, this comic was the blueprint for it. It tells the story of the reformed team when they're all about 19 years old. At this point, Dick has dropped out of college and is at odds with Batman. His leadership of the Titans provides him with even more opportunities for growth and independence, and eventually he sheds the identity of Robin to become Nightwing, in The Judas Contract (about 40 issues in). You can stop reading after The Judas Contract if you just want to see Dick's last days as Robin and transition to Nightwing.
Extras if you want more:
Tumblr media
Lost Carnival: A Dick Grayson Graphic Novel
This is a nice young adult graphic novel that tells a story about Dick when he was still in the circus. The art is phenomenal, and this story shows that Dick already had a lot of the foundations of Robin, and Nightwing, before ever having met Bruce. His parents are actual characters too, which is nice. Dick is slightly older in this than he normally is before his parents die, and it isn't really canon, but it is good.
Tumblr media
Robin & Batman
This three issue series is essentially a different take on Robin's first year. It could or couldn't be canon, it's a little vague. Some readers will be turned off by how militaristic Bruce is, and how angry Dick is. However, I think these are both accurate representations of how they would have acted in their earliest days as a team. Bruce wants to be a good mentor, but doesn't know how yet, and Dick is still grieving the loss of his parents. The art is also phenomenal.
Tumblr media
Year One: Batman/Scarecrow
This story takes place during Bruce and Dick's early days, but they are a well-oiled team by this point. It chronicles their first encounter with Scarecrow, and has a lot of cute moments between Bruce and Dick. Not required reading, but absolutely a fun one.
Tumblr media
Batman One Bad Day: Mr. Freeeze #1
This is the most recent comic on the list, and a very interesting issue. It showcases an encounter between Batman & Robin and Mister Freeze during Robin's early days. It isn't their first time meeting, but Robin is young during this story. It's set around Christmas, and is a wonderful character study of not just Freeze, but also the difference between Robin and Batman, and how Robin brings light to Batman's mission.
Tumblr media
Batman/Superman: World's Finest #6
This is a single issue of Mark Waid and Dan Mora's wonderful 2022 series, that focuses heavily on Robin. Technically it picks up where the previous five issues had left off, but all you need to know is that Robin has been lost in time and Batman and Superman have to find him. It's a great showcase of Dick's skills as an older Robin, and features beautiful art by Travis Moore, using Mora's amazing Robin redesign. Fans of Dick's time in the circus should especially check this out.
Tumblr media
Robin: The Bronze Age Omnibus
This will likely be the least approachable for some readers, simply due to its age. The Bronze Age omnibus contains a selection of Dick's stories as Robin from the 1970s, while he was in college. It is a product of its time, in that Dick's college experience is VERY 1970s, and concerned with the issues of the time. I think it's a wonderful lead-up to The New Teen Titans, showing Dick striking out on his own as an adult crimefighter, over ten years before Nightwing was even conceptualized.
For those wishing for even more Robin content, I would point you in the direction of the Batman Golden and Silver Age omnibuses, the World's Finest Silver Age omnibuses, and the Teen Titans Silver Age Omnibuses.

I hope you found this list helpful, and I will begin working on a Nightwing reading guide soon.

Godzilla in Remnant?
Okay, so... I want to do something a little different here. Instead of writing a story about Godzilla coming in, killing everything and everyone, fight some giant Grimm monster, then slink off back into the sea OR making a story of Ruby and Godzilla teaming up and solving mysteries around Remnant where Ruby does all the legwork and investigating and Godzilla is just loafing around until the monster of the week shows up, I wanna instead put a Godzilla in Remnant by Remnant.
I would like to take this time to apologize for to any TRUE Godzilla fans who may find my knowledge and understanding of the tremendum of the King of the Monsters. If my version sucks and you think you can do better than me, then by all means, go for it. I'm sure it will be better than what I craft here with my... three movie knowledge of Godzilla, the first of which is... GodZilla from the 1990s. Yeah... That's a lot of fish to unpack from the word go, huh?
Anywho, let's build us a
Godzilla in Remnant!
------------------------------------------------
So, let's start with Godzilla's origins in Remnant, which I will use the original version. See, shortly after the Great War, Nicholas Schnee was experimenting with dust, which proved to be the most effective weapon used, to create his most powerful weapon ever designed; two dust-infused bombs with the power to level cities. However, it had to go through testing first. This testing was done off the coast off the northern Anima peninsula, at an outpost that is still known today as Argus. The test was a success as the bomb worked well.
A little too well.
Deep beneath the waves, off the coast of the outpost, there lived a creature dating back to the pre-Brothers era. The radiation of the explosion was so intense, it leveled the seafloor ecosystem, killing and irradiating everything nearby. Everything, except the creature. Wounded, but enraged, this monster would bide their time until they were fully healed so they could exact their vengeance upon the hubris of humanity.
This brings us to today. Jacques Schnee intends to restart the dust bomb project to make the bombs even bigger for the military. Such research would advance humanity's knowledge, understanding, and technology in the use of dust. Though there were many who protested the plan, the research, development, and production of the bomb were now in the testing phases. And why not start where the first testing was held? Right off the coast of Argus.
Bringing his family and several benefactors to the outpost to watch, Jacques had no idea the hell he would unleash. A carrier bullhead flies outward, carrying the bomb in it's bay. The audience watches with bated breath as the bomb, dubbed "Ancient Gasp," a name to harken in the next era, fell into the water, sinking deep enough for the carrier to flee.
Seconds became minutes. Minutes felt like hours. Jacques felt a pit build in his stomach. Did they fail? Was the bomb a dud? Suddenly, a deafening boom is heard as blinding light shines against the protective goggles of the onlookers. There is a roar of applause as the test was proven to be a success. The CEO heaved a sigh of relief...
...Which then became a gasp of horror.
From the depths, a monster unlike any Grimm observed swam towards the shore. This beast was larger than any ever seen before! Jutting from its back like jagged glass were dust crystals of a color the Schnee family had never seen. They looked so pure that the urge to weep was palpable. However, any weeping that followed was not of awe, but of terror.
Godzilla emerged on Argus Beach and left smoldering crater in his wake. His appetite for destruction was far from sated, but the carnage and fear he spread caused a distraction to arrive behind him. Such palpable fear drew in the Leviathan Grimm. There, a titanic battle raged, ending with a lightly wounded Godzilla emerging victorious. He retreated to the ocean once more to rest from his shortly cut rampage.
=========================
Now, I want to discuss two things here before I end this synopsis.
First is the design. I will preface by saying that I didn't lie when I said that I only saw three Godzilla movies, Godzilla (1998), Godzilla (2014), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). However, my first real introduction to the realm of the Kaiju of Kaijus was the video game, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee on Nintendo GameCube (2002). I also watched Godzilla, the 1999 TV series based on the 1998 film. There's also Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017) on Netflix, which I begrudgingly watched (I say this because, well... It's boring to me). Finally, there's Death Battle, which features two iconic Godzilla fights, Godzilla VS Gamera and Mecha-Godzilla VS Dragonzord.
Now, as for the design, I wanted to create a Godzilla similar to the irradiated prehistoric amphibian reptile from the original 1954 film, Godzilla, by irradiating him with dust instead of, well, radiation. I've had a headcanon (probably disproven now) that dust has a bit of radiation and has to be handled carefully with proper personal protective equipment, like gloves, masks, and whatnot if handled raw. Processed has less of this radiation to where it's okay to hold it bare-handed, albeit not for very long. In terms of design, I'm thinking the standard Godzilla look with the dorsal to tail spines replaced by dust crystals. Does it sound like Space Godzilla? If yes, then that's because I used Space Godzilla as my template for his look, albeit with smaller dust crystals.
Second is where, if at all, that I see this story taking place. Notably, the ripple effects this event has on the rest of the world. Dust stocks will PLUMMET, leading to Jacques facing heavy criticism for his reckless abuse of dust. This will result in public opinion on dust to shift from useful and vital asset to cautionary and trepid tool. Weiss, being a huge advocate for dust since, you know, it's been her whole life, still vouches for its use, though she still gets a few glares from certain people when dust comes up in conversation, which it does. A lot. And Weiss has to play defense. Every. Single. Time.
Next is Salem taking not of this monster not under her control. Something this huge taking out her Leviathan, the LARGEST and arguably the most powerful of her Grimm with only a few scratches? This thing can't be allowed to continue existing. So Salem starts creating more Grimm. Bigger ones. Kaiju Grimm. It's an arms race, and the weapons being built are Grimm.
Thank you for reading this to the very end. If you have any questions or feedback on this idea and want to see more of it, feel free to let me know and maybe we can all build Godzilla in Remnant together.
Keep up the good work, and I'll try to do the same!

hi boat mutual you are in my fav mutuals circle. why is the RMS olympic ur fav ocean liner?
OOOOoooooh thank you SO much for asking. So, I measure ocean liners by a few criteria. External Appearance, Internal Appearance, Career, Speed (relative to the fastest liner of her time), etc.
In terms of External Appearance, I like the Olympic. She’s not my favorite, I think I might prefer the SS United States or the Queen Mary, MAYBE even the Mauretania too, but that's tough. Anyway, I love the shape of the Olympics forward superstructure. I think she pulls off the relatively square/flat superstructure much better than ships like the Aquitania. I think Aquitania's superstructure might just be ever so slightly too tall, but I’m not quite sure. I’ve also never been a fan of the split superstructure near the bow like on the RMS Oceanic and the Big Four. Anyway, The ratio of superstructure to hull to funnels is just fantastic. The shape/proportions of Olympics funnels are excellent. I also think the White Star livery suits her very well. Especially in the 20’s when her sheer line was lowered.
In terms of interiors, I absolutely adore the Olympics wood paneled Edwardian decor. I might be a BIT biased, because I have a much better understanding of the Olympics interior and decor thanks to Titanic: Honor and Glory. If I were to go back in time and sail on the Lusitania or Mauretania, I might prefer them, but the pictures can only convey so much to me now. I’ve also always preferred the Edwardian decor to the Art Deco decor on ships like the Normandie. Don’t get me wrong, the Normandie was gorgeous, but her interiors almost give me the vibe of an art museum. Cold, imposing, almost sterile. Not exactly a place I’d like to live for a week. The Queen Mary is much better in this regard, feeling much more warm and inviting, but I still just overall prefer the pre war decor of ocean liners. Olympic just happens to be my favorite.
In terms of speed, everyone makes a very big deal about how the Olympic class was just too slow to take the blue riband from the Lusitania class, but the Olympic wasn’t exactly slow either. With an initial service speed of 21 knots, and a maximum recorded speed of 24 knots, she was still very fast compared to most liners of her day, especially compared to the Big Four, which could only go between 16 and 18 knots.
However, standing above all else is the Olympics career, which for me, is what makes her stand above the rest.
When the Lusitania was launched, she beat the previous ship in terms of size by 6,969 gross registered tons. When the Olympic was launched, she beat the Lusitania by nearly twice that, being 13,774 gross registered tons larger. (For reference, The Kaiserin Auguste Victoria was 24,581 GRT, The Lusitania was 31,550 GRT, and the Olympic was 45,324 GRT). At the time of her launch, she was the largest man made moving object ever built, by far. Shortly thereafter she suffered a collision with the HMS Hawke, but survived easily thanks to her watertight compartments. After the sinking of her sister, the Titanic, she was withdrawn from service and refit, introducing safety features that made her by far the safest ship afloat. She already was the safest before the refit, but the refit fixed some critical flaws and oversights by adding lifeboats, raising bulkheads, adding an interior second skin to absorb damage (remember this one) and plenty more.
World War I began in 1914, and the Olympic was once again withdrawn from service. This time, she was refit as a troop ship. During the war, Olympic is reported to have carried up to 201,000 troops and other personnel, burning 347,000 tons of coal and traveling about 184,000 miles. She survived TWO encounters with German U-boats. Most ships don't survive one, and in one of these two encounters, the U-Boat didn't survive! The crew of the Olympic spotted the U-Boat and managed to ram and sink it. The Olympic was the only merchant ship to have sunk enemy tonnage during World War 1. Can't say definitively for other wars, but none come to mind. A plaque was placed in one of Olympics first class spaces to commemorate the event. The second encounter went a bit differently. The second U-Boat actually managed to hit Olympic with a torpedo. Luckily it was a dud, and didn't detonate. The torpedo did make a small hole in her hull, but the double hull contained the flooding. The crew of the Olympic didn't know she was hit until she was put in dry dock after the war and they found the hole.
After the war, she repatriated Canadian troops and earned the nickname "Old Reliable". A dance hall was even named after her. She was once again refit, giving her oil fired boilers. This significantly reduced the amount of crew necessary, from (approximately) 350 men to only 50. Also, this change increased her average speed by a 10th of a knot, and significantly reduced the amount of smoke and pollution she created. She could also be completely refueled in a day, rather than a week. Because oil is a liquid, they were actually able to store it in unconventional places like the space between the double hull. This gave Olympic incredible range and fuel capacity compared to her rivals. Throughout the 1920s, she became extremely popular with the rich and famous. This was despite the fact that Olympic was no longer White Star Line's flagship. That title went to the Majestic, originally a German liner, but ceded to the brits as a war reparation. But as I was saying, her popularity with celebrities of the time earned her the nickname of "The Movie Star Liner". By 1934, the effects of the great depression had taken hold. Very few people were traveling. Cunard and White Star were in pretty serious trouble (White Star wasn't just suffering from the great depression, but that's a story for another day). Cunard didn't have enough money to complete the RMS Queen Mary and made an appeal to the government for help. They agreed, but only under the condition that the Cunard line and White Star Line merge. At this point, many Cunard and White Star ships were sold or scrapped to get as much money as possible for the Queen Mary. This includes the 3 remaining ships of the Big Four, and even the Mauretania. The thing that doomed the Olympic was her lack of private bathrooms. Standards for travel and comfort had simply changed too much since 1911, and the Olympic no longer made enough of a profit for Cunard White Star to keep her in service. She was sold for scrap, and by 1936, she was gone.
Anyway, sorry for the huge info dump. Tl;dr - The Olympic is my favorite because of her interesting career. I'm very passionate about the topic. Also, apologies for any inaccuracies. Most of this was from memory, but I made sure to fact-check all the big stuff and the numbers.
