Eustathius goes on to suggest that the adjectives 'undying' and 'un-aging' refer not literally to biological life, but rather to the durability of the rust-proof metals from which they were fashioned, and that the dogs were alleged to be the work of Hephaestus solely on account of their excellent workmanship. He does, however, imply that he knows of other testimonia to these hounds when he refers to a certain "silly story" that they were a present from Hera to Poseidon for his help in some attack against Zeus in the Iliad (probably that described at 1.396-406), and that Poseidon gave them in turn to Alcinous. - Hephaestus the Magician and Near Eastern Parallels for Alcinous' Watchdogs by Christopher A. It’s actually really odd how Poseidon took no issue with Perseus killing Medusa and Cetus, like I’m 70% sure there was probably a myth out there about him taking revenge but it didn’t survive to the modern day bc of this pottery art:

It shows Poseidon rushing toward Medusa’s corpse with one of her sisters running towards him like “some invisible guy killed her go stop him!” And it looks like Athena is urging Perseus to run faster (hence why there is two of Perseus) and it got me thinking, is this why Perseus has the Invisibility helmet? It seems odd for him to have it considering that he killed Medusa while she slept, was it to avoid Poseidon’s wrath? Since Poseidon only started attacking Odysseus when his son Polyphemus told him his name?

So if all it takes to avoid Poseidon is to keep your identity secret, then how come he didn’t catch on when this random kid showed up out of nowhere, rescued Andromeda and killed Cetus with Medusa’s head? Idk maybe there’s something I’m missing.

Theseus, who was helped by poseidon multiple times, but in the end was thrown off a cliff by the citizens of Athens and drowned. Drowned in the ocean, the very domain of his father.

Kymopoleia, who was neglected by Poseidon once he found her to be too violent, left to wander his abandoned palaces, given up as a war prize to man she didn't even want with no choice at all.

Bellerophon, who was given the pegasus to tame as a gift from Poseidon in some myths, dying by falling off of it on his way to Olympus.

I'm just saying, that line wasn't a random throwaway line by Ares, he means it.

I think Poseidon sees babysitting as something that he would do, you know? Mothers are parenting the kids, not him, he's just "babysitting." 😆

But he prefers to pick others to do that for him as well, and when it comes to like Polyphemus, then it's either one of the other cyclops on the same island. Maybe Steropes?

I see the other cyclops like older siblings who ignore their younger sibling during school.
