extremely annoying how i have a hyperspecific set of standards in my head that i not only need to match but also surpass before i consider myself "worthy" of certain friendships/relationships . best (worst) kind of self sabotage

how do you fall in love with yourself
unlearn the idea that confidence is conceit. i see this belief imposed on women especially, that if they’re very unapologetic about loving themselves it automatically means they’re narcissistic / think they’re better than everybody else. that’s not true at all. you can love yourself while also acknowledging you’re not inherently better than anyone else. you can love yourself while also being kind & supportive to others. it’s okay to be both of these things at once.
let go of the scarcity mindset. women (everyone really, but especially women) get pitted/compared against each other all the time. you see it w female celebrities in the media, but it’s very prevalent in real life as well. this is very much years of societal conditioning & both women & men partake in this behavior. ignore it. rest easy knowing that there can be multiple beautiful women, multiple smart women, multiple funny women in any environment at any given time. there is enough clout to go around; you don’t need to feel like if there’s another pretty/smart girl it means you no longer have the space to also be a pretty/smart girl. instead operate from an abundance mindset: always (alwaysss) be happy for other girls when they succeed, when they’re praised, when they’re loved, whatever. see them not as competition but as inspiration. envy is such a colossal waste of time bc nobody else’s accomplishments have any bearing on your own!!
get to know yourself more. i love the analogy of dating yourself bc it’s true. i went through a rough period of being around my ex 24/7 to the point i didn’t even know myself, and then i spent the post-breakup year hanging around everyone else constantly to numb my thoughts. now i’m spending more time alone than ever & i’m getting to know myself so much. learning about my taste in fashion, music, everything. and i’ve had so much more time to invest in hobbies & skills, which is very instrumental to building healthy self-esteem. ofc there’s a more balanced way to do this, but make sure you’re not running away from yourself!
what do you like outside of everybody’s opinion? don’t interpret this the wrong way—it’s completely fine to be inspired. every single person you know has copied someone else to an extent. but if you find yourself going too far, not trusting yourself to make the simplest decisions, just following trends blindly and nothing else, you’ve left the inspiration territory and started crossing into plagiarism. move from a place of self-direction and really think about what is naturally appealing to you. it doesn’t matter if it’s not popular or nobody else likes it. if you like it & if it makes you happy, that’s all you need.
practice self-love! i had to do this lol but it works wonders. i started intentionally telling myself that i trust my own taste, that i trust my own choices, that if i think something’s cool it’s good enough, talking to myself kindly etc etc. eventually all this stuff will become natural to you & you won’t find yourself having to expend so much energy into simply loving you for you. don’t give up even if it’s hard to believe at times.
don’t give a fuck. seriously. just don’t give a single flying fuck what someone else has to say. there will always be That One Person who tries to tear you down, belittles you, gaslights you etc etc and if you know in your heart you’re not doing anything wrong, just ignore and keep it pushing. you can’t be everyone’s favorite person (nor should you want to be). think of your favorite celebrity. anyone ever. they probably all got subjected to hate. now think of how they’re successful still & how it didn’t take anything away from them. there you go <3
if literally everyone on this planet starts hating you, loving yourself is still the antidote. to clarify, how others perceive us does hold weight. but if legit every single person i know started hating me, and i still loved myself, i’d probably still live a full life bc my perception is all that really matters in the end. i don’t need anyone else to be my #1 fan—i can do that myself just fine. it technically is actually your world & everyone else is just living in it. so enjoy that! stop giving a hard time to the one person who will always be w you through thick and thin (yourself). eat good food & watch good shows & read good books & just have fun. i love u

What I don't understand is the need to have made Percy know all of the myths. It's unnecessary. A familiarity makes sense, he studied it in school, and having Sally tell him stories is sweet, but that doesn't mean he can't be confused? In the books he mentions he struggles with some myths and names because his dyslexia makes it hard*, some names can be similar but are completely different figures. It's also mentioned that the more a demigod knows about the mythical world the easier they are to find. Percy's ignorance makes sense, and is important for his safety (hence why he's lied to by Brunner and Grover about Mrs Dodds). When comparing the wide breadth of myths covered in the books, not knowing exactly who someone is makes more sense than immediately knowing exactly who and what is going on.
A main theme in the books is that intelligence comes in many different forms, especially because the protagonists are both neurodiverse in more than one way. Being book smart isn't the end all be all of intelligence and both Annabeth and Percy show how clever they are in different ways. Book Percy was never made to seem stupid because he didn't immediately know about the Lotus hotel or Procrustes for example. Even Annabeth was fooled by them. That's how the myths worked in the pjo verse, they're modernised and there's the mist it's perfectly fine for them to be tricked. Hell, in universe the monsters want them to be tricked, that's the point. Percy's intelligence and quick thinking are shown not via immediate fact retrieval, but through how he manages to manipulate the situation for the better. He's perceptive, and is good at figuring things out**. He's still incredibly intelligent, it's just shown in a different way.
One of the joys of the original series was learning about the myths alongside Percy. The mystery and the unique modernisations of the stories. So it's a bit of a slap in the face to have the show's narration behave like everyone would know what any myth, that it's so obvious they don't need to explain how or why the protagonists know exactly what's coming before it has a chance to. Again: I'm aware that Annabeth has been at camp for years, but there's a massive amount of myths to know and they have adapted to the modern day. They might not be immediately recognisable, or the mist might be too strong etc etc. Not knowing something doesn't mean you're dumb.
The show, however, doesn't give the kids chances to mess up. They know everything immediately, or far too quickly. There's no room for learning or acknowledging the complexities of the pjo-universe. Them recognising Medusa straight away, fine, she's a pretty well known myth, and Percy is named for Perseus, the familiarity makes sense. The lotus hotel, less so, it's not that well known of an aspect of the Odyssey, but they are looking for a god so being suspicious of their surroundings is fair enough I guess? (Though coincidences can be coincidences. The only similarity that the island and the hotel have is a lotus, a very common flower?) There are so many things that happen in the Odyssey that not specifically remembering this tale would've been fine. But Procrustes? Immediately? Really?
What purpose does it serve to have the kids know who they're facing straight away? To the plot. Considering that the myths are intertwined with the modern, it would make sense for them not to know things, or at least not immediately recognise them as monstrous/magical, because not everything is?
I don't know, I just feel like taking the opportunity to learn away from both the audience and the characters cheapens the story and makes it less interesting. (Representations of intelligence aside. Because if I talk about that I'm going to call someone Ableist and I don't want to get into that right now. I will say though that even the movie had more overt dyslexia and adhd rep so...)
Not only that, but narratively, it's not working. There are no stakes to the situations the kids get into, or there are but certainly not to the same degree. It's just. Odd.
All that to say that the decision is a weird one and one that doesn't serve the plot to boot. That is all.
Anyways have pictures of my copy of TLT for support, please ignore my dissertation tabs.

this is so good. ok so it seems like toge did not take yuuta leaving to study abroad very well. I wonder how that conversation went.
Also I am obsessed with fashion student nobara. I'm curious how the main trio become friends
thank you !! 🥺
study abroad:
• so the last thing i want to do is make toge out as being too dependent. the reason why he struggled so much is because of a variety of factors weighing on him. his family life, his unhappiness with college, losing a close friend for a year, guilt at his scholarship, isolation from classmates who couldn’t understand sign, etc.
• that being said, yuuta was completely against the idea of going abroad at first.
• it was a proposed study abroad/internship that gojo and shoko helped set-up for him without really consulting him first (gojo lol). but it was also a really good opportunity under the guidance of a traveling anthropologist, miguel, who had medical connections in africa.
• maki immediately pushed him to do it, saying it would be an insult not to take advantage of every opportunity. med school is competitive and he needed every advantage and connection on his side. she was obviously going to miss him, though she’d never admit it out loud, but her ambition is what has fueled her for her entire life.
• panda was less passionate about it, and a lot more expressive at his bittersweet reaction. but he grew up around academics with no perception of time, so he was full of encouragement and promises.
• toge’s immediate reaction was pride for him, he was always trying to tell yuuta how amazing he was and this was just a product of his work. he tried to ignore the heavy pit in his chest, the way his eyes burned every time he thought about going a year without seeing him.
• for yuuta the thought of leaving his friends to an entirely different country was terrifying. what if they found new friends they liked better than him? what if they forgot him? what if everything was different when he came back? he was terrified, and anxious, and everything in between and at night it felt like he couldn’t breathe.
• it’s toge with his awful sleep schedule that finds him huddling under a blanket at an ungodly hour. face pale, eyes dull, knee bouncing with a mind of its own. and despite the way toge wanted to tell him just to stay, he never could bear to see him suffer.
• so he ignores the way his hands shake, he pulls the blanket up just enough to hide alongside him, and traces into the palm of his hand, ‘what do you want?’
• and strangely enough, he’s the first one to ask him that. it’s enough to send him to tears, shoulders up to his neck, and head bowed with a sniffle.
• “i want to do this,” he says, “but i don’t want to leave, i want to stay with everyone. What if you forget all about me?”
• ‘you think one year would be enough for us to ever forget you? stupid. we encourage you because we love you, but we’ll be counting down the days until you come back,’ toge hesitates before softly reminding him, ‘how could i ever forget you?’
• by the end of it, yuuta runs out of tears to cry and promises to buy a better phone so they can facetime.
• if they hug for a little too long at the airport, not even maki gives them grief about it. they even get a calendar designated, ‘days until yuuta is home.’
the first-year trio:
• so i do have some grief about how exactly these kids would have met. and i know for sure that yuuji is probably the gravitational force here.
• so if i had to break it down, i would say that megumi probably noticed yuuji right away, but was too emo to approach him. they probably shared a pre-requisite class that yuuji struggled in and then noticed how smart megumi was. cue yuuji bombarding him, pleading for help and basically dragging him into helping him. from there, yuuji eventually attached himself to his hip, especially after meeting his dogs.
• they met nobara halfway through the semester. completely on accident, on their way back from a study session that accomplished nothing, to see her threatening someone with a hammer.
• to say they were shocked is downplaying it.
• it turns out the guy had tried attacking her first. but as per her heated explanation, she happened to have a hammer from one of her projects in her crafting bag that she busted his knee cap with. then proceeded to yell at him for the next ten minutes until they passed by.
• they helped her move the guy to the nearest police station, and yuuji insisted on walking her back home. she gave him a scrutinizing glare before shoving her bag into his hands, to which he took with minimal complaint. from there she decided their presence would be beneficial enough, though she complained about megumi’s resting face.
• i absolutely love nobara getting to do fashion design and marketing, i think she would be such an unhinged creator.
• she has every social media possible, posting pictures of both the outfits she creates and the crazy marketing strategies she employs.
• she still wants to model, and insists her style is completely unique. she even hammers metal into her functional fashion that she boasts with a crazy grin.
• yuuji once offered to model for her and she gave him such a disgusted look that it physically wounded him lol
• it’s actually meeting maki and toge that inspires her. she designs so many outfits for maki that her closet actually starts to fill with something other than training equipment. meanwhile toge does have some interest in fashion and is genuinely interested in her work. he’s one of the few men she tolerates and actually has asked him to be her reference for male attire, something that makes yuuji give her a kicked puppy look.
• anyway toge is actually her bestie because he’ll spend hours talking about her designs, and also do the dance trends with her. she already decided the day she and maki have a child that he will be the god parent lol
whew, thank you for the asks !! i always talk way too much so this might take a hot minute to go through them, but i truly appreciate the interest !! 🥺🫶

So ridiculous question: Did Valkorion ever come out while Eva and Theron were having sex?
This made me laugh out loud! Thanks for the larf; I've needed it due to IRL stuff. <3
Ok, so, the short answer is NO. Valky is repulsed by Theron and tends to go mope in his prison in Eva's head whenever our favorite spy shows up. He wants NOTHING to do with her private life. Theron is icky to him, and he'd rather gargle razor blades and iodine than get an eyeful.
~~
The slightly longer answer in my universe: I imagine that Valkorion screwed up when he picked Eva to be his host. At the time, a Force User made sense, but he's done that before -- booooring. Plus there's no crueler way to further fuck up your not-favorite son than to create a vessel that can kick his ass -- and can't even use the Force naturally. Smugglers are greedy and weak-minded -- this will be easy.
Valkorion didn't anticipate that the vessel could not only hold him but trap him. He thought he could just take up residence, upgrade Eva's arsenal and give her Force abilities, then take the Throne back. No biggie, even if Arcann did chuck her in a freezer for five years. ....but then Valkorion found that he couldn't just take control. He couldn't do what he did on Ziost.
Is he weaker? Is she stronger than Jedi Masters (at least the Hero of Tython in Act 2 and the Sixth Line)? In my universe, it's a bit of both.
Valkorion picked the most stubborn, Force-null, immune-to-manipulation criminal in the galaxy. This is known in the game since we see at least 2 instances (one on Tatooine and one in an FP) where the Smuggler laughs off an attempt to influence them, much to the Sith's consternation. Combine that with the loss of power that the Emperor had when the Valkrion body was slain; I don't think all of the Emperor's power went to the Outlander in a 1:1 transfer.
Valky lost something when he died, and Eva is particularly resistant to the Force. She can tossed around by it, like any visible object, but her own presence in it isn't particularly strong. I've headcanoned that Force Users can't just sense her Life Force, reach out, and grab her; Miraluka have trouble perceiving her and extensive cyborgs like Arn (another headcanon of mine). Direct line of sight in the same room? Yes, she can be acted upon, but it's not as easy as it could be. Force Users also can't do stuff like Force Choke her across a commlink, like Vader does. Eva is difficult to act upon, if that makes sense. Valkorion can talk to her, but it takes a lot of effort; this is why he's sometimes there, sometimes not.
We see in KotFE several instances where Valkorion exerts himself to save the Outlander's life -- because it saves his life. I imagine that he does exhaust himself in these expenditures, which causes him to go silent for much of the six months between KotFE and KotET. As much as Eva is stuck with Valkorion in her head, Valkorion is equally unable to leave, and he is NOT HAPPY about Eva's lifestyle overall.
Valkorion is not going to waste his energy and make himself want to drink bleach by interrupting sexy time. Also, if he was going to do a body hijack prior to the Throne, the last person he'd do it in front of would be Theron. Theron may be an inferior being for lacking the Force, but he is perceptive. It's a combination of Theron being brilliant at analysis and observation (spy and operations manager), but also the love factor. I do imagine Valkorion loved Senya at some point, and people in love notice their partner -how they move, what they do when they're in a mood, etc. Valkorion is just smart enough to know Theron would catch on fast if Eva wasn't herself. He was human, once, after all.

Pact Mark Headcanons | Obey Me |
A/N: Some of these are inspired by different people, such as @beels-burger-babe and @obeythedemons
I’ll be going over my headcanons for numerous things like location of it, things that are connected through the pact, etc.
————
Location of pact mark:
Lucifer’s-
I imagine his pact mark to be on MC’s neck or somewhere near the face so it isn’t covered up. He prides himself and likes to show off the pact but subtly so it isn’t exactly obvious but obvious enough, so perhaps somewhere on the neck as I have mentioned. I also imagine he likes to rest his face in the crack of MC’s neck.
Mammon’s-
Right hand, he wants it to be obvious as well, and he was thankful that he chose that place because after the events in Lesson 16, he likes to hold their hand to reassure himself MC won’t disappear.
Leviathan’s-
Unlike his two older brothers, I don’t think he would want it to be obvious. So perhaps somewhere like MC’s inner thighs or inner arms. I imagine that when Levi gets more comfortable in a relationship with MC, he would hesitantly lay in their lap while he games, getting all flustered if they drape their arms on him.
Satan’s-
Now, he’s a romantic, so I imagine it’s on MC’s left hand, so whenever he got the chance, he would kiss that hand or rub against it with a smile on his face.
Asmodeus’-
Around the collarbone, he had put some thought into it and thought that spot would be best. He likes giving MC massages and smiles whenever he sees the pact mark of his.
Beelzebub’s-
His pact mark is on the stomach, he likes laying on MC’s stomach and nuzzling his face into it. It makes it easier to tell if they are hungry so he can grab some food for the both of them.
Belphegor’s-
His pact mark I imagine to be on the lower back, opposite of his twins. Sometimes, if he isn’t busy occupying MC’s lap, he will cling onto them from the back.
Things the Brother Share Through the Pact
If MC is feeling that sin, the brother associated with that sin will feel it. For example, if MC is feeling prideful or boastful, Lucifer can tell. Or when MC is feeling greedy or they just won something, Mammon would feel it.
If MC gets hurt, all the brothers would feel it, in the exact same location at a slightly lower intensity, still, that doesn’t stop the brothers from finding MC and asking what is wrong and who they need to kill. Most of the time MC bonked something and there is no need to murder anyone
They can feel MC’s emotions in general. Once MC got a high score on the test and was ecstatic about it, and the brothers all shared that ecstatic feeling. One time MC was super tired from studying and next thing they knew they were being taken care of by the brothers.
Perks of the pact
Lucifer’s-
His main perk is a sort of confidence boost to MC. After they made a pact with him, they noticed themselves to be a bit more confident in everything, even things they weren’t so confident in before. Obviously Lucifer notices and feels a sense of pride himself. Other perks would be more of a volume in voice or shape shifting for a certain amount of time
Mammon’s-
His main perk is speed, although it isn’t a huge difference if they were already quite fast, but major if they were well, slow. His other perks are being able to mimic certain voices and being more street smart. He wouldn’t suggest mimicking Lucifer’s voice, he did that once, it did not end well...
Leviathan’s-
His main perk is being able to breath underwater and be more... precise in the water. The first time they found out was when they were at the beach with Levi and they were pushed underwater by some lowly demon, let’s say not suffocating in water was a blessing. His other perks include having more perception, because he’s always playing video games, he has to see multiple things at once. Sometimes, they would also grow scales, just small patches of them, but Levi would freak out, every. single. time.
Asmodeus’-
His main perk is being more agile, it was a great thing to have because if they ever needed to, they could slip away from lowly demons trying to pick on them, or at least stall them until the brothers came if they truly were trapped. His other perks is having a better sense of fashion, I say that as if his normal outfit isn’t ugly his other perks include a higher tolerance to alcohol if they didn’t have one already.
Satan’s-
His main perk are fangs and claws, need I say more? Satan was intrigued when the fangs starts to grow, but he found it fascinating. I like to think extra perks are that they can stay up longer and process more information.
Beelzebub’s-
His main perk is more stamina. MC is an absolute beast in PE class thanks to that and Mammon’s speed. His other perks include a better sense of smell and a bigger stomach, again, need I say more?
Belphegor's-
His main perk is stealth, I imagine he is quiet and can sneak on people that way, he has a choice not to use it of course. Extra perks I think could be more control over your sleeping habit, like, you can tell your brain to shut itself off and it will eventually do so. Another perk is having more comebacks on the backburner, this lil shits whole thing is having snappy comebacks.

Loved Dani and Jamie this ep! And Beard affectionately calling Jamie a beautiful dum dum and the friendly teasing about the reality show and Jamie proving his tactical smarts! And that Jamie gets permission from the whole team to go into prick mode and even then he isnt really he actually does know this better that them. Although Roy, some consistency with Jamie plz for the love of god. The whole string thing was very funny though
Dani and Jamie were real gems this week and I liked the callback to “Lust conquers all” and the playful way Jamie reacted to Beards teasing.
The whole “I don’t want people to think I’m a prick if I say it” part, that Jamie seems to be so wary to express his opinions that he needs to get permission first, is something I’m thinking about a lot last week. So sorry in advance for this very long bit of rambling lol
And to bring this other ask in, since it fits in so well:
Jamie trying to be a good boy and waiting to get permission from the whole team, hes come on so much and its giving me... ideas. The boy just wants to please and apparently now that means doing exactly what hes told even when he is literally vibrating wanting to do something
That made me think of Roy’s comment in “The Signal”, when he said that Ted fucked Jamie up. And even though I don’t agree with Roy’s assessment, since Jamie isn’t a prick at his core and it now shows how much more valuable he is as a team player, but I think Jamie’s caution to speak up could relate to Ted.
Specifically to how Jamie was sent away (or: how Jamie thinks that went down) and how he came back.
We know Jamie reacts well to positive reinforcement, so negative reinforcement probably is just as effective (or not "probably" since all his "dad" did was negative reinforcement that clearly left a mark).
And Jamie still doesn’t know why he was sent away so there might be that underlying anxiety of being rejected again when he is too open and honest with his opinions, which makes him wary to voice any opinion that could make him look like he is not a team player or not trying enough to be good (even if he may not be consciously aware of this)
Ted initially rejected Jamie when he asked to return to Richmond.
We don’t know what Ted told him, when he actually gave him a second chance, but we know he told Jamie in their initial conversation that Jamie burnt bridges, which I always figured was odd, since … that wasn’t the reason he got sent away. And what Jamie said in the interview the team watched in 1x10 wasn’t all that mean if you compare it to stuff he said before and the mean stuff was mostly about Ted and Roy specifically, like he even said that the team are all good lads. That never felt like burning bridges to me either.
Add to this that the last thing Jamie did before getting send away was trying to mend things and be a better teammate. He started the whole “Richmond till we die”-chant, ffs, so from Jamie's perspective he had just started to try being better when "Ted dumped him" :'(
That is not burning bridges, Ted!
And Jamie was very vulnerable with Ted when he asked if he could come back, talking about being depressed, bringing up his dad, and still got rejected.
So Jamie would probably think that his behaviour was the reason he got sent away in the first place, so now he tries hard not to give others reasons to reject him again.
And since Jamie always appears to be super confident and self assured, the others may not really be aware of his struggles and that he needs reassurance once in a while. :'(
So,
onto Roy …
I think Roy is still stuck with a lot of assumptions about Jamie based on Jamie’s behaviour in season 1 (like, Jamie being a prick at his core, calling him a fragile little bitch, primadonna etc.), and has a tough time reconciling his assumptions of Jamie with who Jamie actually is at his core. He is slowly making progress in changing his perception, but it feels a lot like he makes one step forward, two steps back, as if he is actively trying to keep a distance lest he catches a feeling.
(To be fair, it took Keeley until the bantr-ad to acknowledge how much Jamie has changed, and the coaches dismissing Jamie’s valid warning about Zava also showed, that they are stuck with at least some of their assumptions.)
But it is super frustrating for me, since we’re over the halfway mark and Roy still hasn’t really made much progress regarding his character development, since every moment of vulnerability or him having some sort of revelation about himself gets immediately followed by him regressing and doing or saying something batshit crazy …
Which is why I’m so torn on the whole string thing — at first it was kinda funny as a practical joke, but it also made me feel uncomfortable since that borderlines on sexual harrasment. And it is really not a good look on Roy rejoicing like some psychopath on the idea that Jamie got accidentally castrated — Roy seemed to be regressing all season, but that was a bit too much for me.
Like, not to get too dark here, but what was Roy thinking? “Ah, Jamie told me like two weeks ago about being raped at fourteen, so I should be absolutely delighted by the possibility of him getting genitally mutilated after I came up with something sadistic for practice” ???

since the hogwarts housing essay i wrote at midnight is by far my most popular post as of yet, here's part two: stereotypes and prejudice
so, in part one, i focused mainly on the more tangible problems like how subjective the placement of each person is and the distribution problems, but the big issue i didn't really touch on is stereotyping.
obviously, each house is there to give kids a chance to find their people and figure out their values and place in life, so they are categorical, and labels are gonna arise no matter what. however, those labels, at least in the case of hogwarts, are really bad about forcing people into boxes. people can argue that hogwarts is uniform enough that just spending time around their house isn't enough to really influence a person's personality or life course, but the opinions of others is actually a huge way we develop our self-concept especially while we're young. now imagine the entire wizarding community of the British Isles telling you you've been sorted into the brave house, or the smart house, or the kind house, or the cunning house (or more often the evil house). that's akin to a prophecy, and it's gonna take a lot to change a kid's perception of themselves. it's the same concept of a teacher telling a student they're particularly good at math but struggle in english. now that they know they do good in a certain subject without effort, they're more likely to try harder in math to improve on their "talent", but they're also more likely to not put much effort into english because, "if i'm naturally bad at it, there's not much i can do at this point." now let's transfer that idea to hogwarts: if a kid is sorted into gryffindor, the first thing a person will tell them is not, "wow, you must be so smart!" it's, "wow, you must be so brave!" how brave can an 11 year old actually be? unless there are extenuating circumstances like in the cases of Harry and Remus, there aren't many reasons an 11 year old would already see themselves as brave. however, now that they have that idea in their head, bravery seems more like a birthright rather than something they have to achieve. on the other hand, intelligence becomes a far away ideal that is just that much harder to achieve because if they're not in ravenclaw, that must mean they don't have the same capacity for learning as the ravenclaw kids. obviously this isn't true, but it's only not true if a kid has a particular drive to succeed academically. gryffindors (and hufflepuffs) now see studying as optional because there isn't any pressure to be great in this area. (clearly, there are exceptions, namely hermione, remus, lily, etc., but their dedication to their studies says more about their questionable sortings and need to prove bloodpurist and ableist prejudice wrong than anything else), in place of that pressure comes even more pressure to always be brave. ideally, each person is sorted into their perfect house and the pressure never becomes too much. that is simply impossible. while people like james and sirius might thrive in this sort of environment, people like neville and peter will crack under the pressure. where neville allowed himself several small cracks over the years (typically in potions class) and came out better for it, peter spent seven years pretending to be as brave as his friends and finally when the opportunity came, switched to the dark side where he wouldn't have to act like anything other than what he was: a rat. likewise, i wouldn't be surprised if ravenclaw has the most mental breakdowns during finals week (if hermione is any example) or if hufflepuffs have the worst outbursts when the general horribleness of the world gets to be too much. of course, we know slytherins have spectacular reactions to pressure: regulus dying in pursuit of horcruxes, andromeda running away, draco letting snape kill dumbledore, snape calling lily a mudblood. the list goes on.
now, circling back to the boxes the housing system forces people into, stereotypes aggressively push this issue. for example, anyone from any house can be on a quidditch team. however, as bravery isn't really relevant in day-to-day activities (unless, of course, you're a werewolf or living with the house of black) and it is traditionally seen as a heroic trait that a brave knight or a greek hero would have, aiding a character physically, it is easier for gryffindors to fall into the jock category without the added academic pressure of ravenclaw or slytherin or the practically negative competitiveness of hufflepuff. why is it that five of the seven weasley kids played quidditch and two of them were considered quidditch greats at hogwarts, and one went on to play quidditch professionally? throughout harry's time at hogwarts, gryffindor rarely lost a game. i haven't read the books in a while, but i don't think draco ever beat harry to the snitch, either. this isn't a coincidence. gryffindors just have more time and pressure for quidditch greatness. slytherin is in my opinion the worst about this. the second people learn they're part of a house that has only made evil wizards (a lie if there ever was one) and that no matter what they do, the wizarding world will always think of them as evil because of their house, why should they try to make anyone think otherwise? even if they become a great hero or, heck, a healer or professor, the second people learn that they were in slytherin, that person will automatically be aligned with evil. not through any fault of their own, of course, just due to stereotypes. the same thing happens with gryffindors and hufflepuffs, although not to the same extent. people often assume they aren't as smart as ravenclaws and slytherins even though some of the smartest wizards came out of those houses. one of the worst, though, is that if a kid isn't in gryffindor, they feel no need to be brave, slytherins especially. it took regulus eighteen years to find the courage to do what he knew was right, and even then he didn't do it in the light of day (i realize a quiet betrayal was probably more advantageous at the time, but there would have been many advantages to a loud one as well, namely more people would have known what he was doing and about the horcruxes, so his chance of death goes down and if he did die, more people would able to continue his work). snape also never officially declared his stance on blood purity, not even to dumbledore. we can't even use the mudblood incident as proof because he was just following the slytherins in a moment of emotional distress, and either way, that stance could have changed in the decades since the incident. and the only reason snape ever switched sides was because of lily, not any particular bravery on his part. if he used that slytherin cunning he was supposed to have had, he probably could have figured out dumbledore's plans much earlier and maybe not finally have let his bravery show in his fatal sacrifice. this example is a bit of a mess, but the takeaway is that the bravery prejudices (as well as all of the others) of each individual house cause strict boxes that persist even into adulthood causing negative repercussions for the victims of the stereotyping.
the intelligence stereotyping especially pisses me off if y'all couldn't tell, and the main reason for that is on behalf of neurodivergents. if a kid has a learning disability, or any disability really, they would have a very very hard time at hogwarts. remus had a much harder time than any of the other marauders, and his disability wasn't even a learning disability (or really considered a disability, just a personal failure cause wizards are fucking stupid). as far as we know, hogwarts doesn't have any procedures for kids with disabilities. they could just be on their own for all we know. with that in mind, how hard would it be for a neurodivergent kid to be in ravenclaw no matter how smart they are? just with ableist prejudice, our dominantly neurotypical world already tells them they aren't as smart as "normal" people. in gryffindor, they would be made fun of for being different. in ravenclaw and slytherin, they would be made fun of for not learning in the same way as everybody else. hufflepuff is the only that would give them a chance. not only that, but the entire hogwarts curriculum is dependent on a student's ability to read. what if a kid has dyslexia? what the hell are they supposed to do? pray someone will help with every homework assignment and potions class? does anyone remember what snape did when hermione tried to help neville? not a good option. with all of this going on, the chances of being in ravenclaw and succeeding with a learning disability become infinitesimal. using remus as a case study, wizards are constantly poised to attack anyone who is different. how can a kid possibly see themself as smart with all of this going on? just by attending hogwarts, they would most likely end up in gryffindor because of how damn brave that is, just like remus. but does this mean kids with learning disabilities aren't smart, cunning, or kind? no, but that is exactly what the housing system would have us believe. it goes both ways, too. what is the most likely house for a kid with savant syndrome (when someone with a developmental disorder such as autism has an amazing ability for something such as math and science)? i'm not sure how our academic subjects would transfer to magical subjects, but i would assume ravenclaw, just because of one heightened ability (amazingly heightened, but still). can someone with savant syndrome not be brave? hell no - they are just as brave for attending hogwarts as any other neurodivergent person. does this mean they are not cunning or kind? also no. would the housing system make them feel like smart is the only thing they will ever be? yes.
finally, and this is the big one, even when the stereotypes cause fights, even when they cause destruction of kids' mental states, and even when generalizations hurt kids once they've grown up, sometimes resulting in death, they are fucking encouraged, by everyone. the professors, dumbledore, parents, the ministry, even the goddamn students themselves. when kids from separate houses fight and argue, they aren't told that interhouse relationships are important, and that the houses need to respect each other. there is not one single thing that encourages interhouse communication besides a couple unnamed clubs and the DA which purposefully excluded slytherins. they are told, however, typically by their head of house and sometimes dumbledore and their parents, that the opposing house was just being too [insert house stereotype] and that they can finish the fight by winning the house cup or the next quidditch match. this is a horrible system that encourages fighting by taking the blame off students when they do something wrong and removing their responsibility to be better. this is part of why i love mcgonagall - while she does favor gryffindors, she makes sure her students know when they did something wrong whereas snape always finds a way to blame a gryffindor. this leads me into my next point: blantant favoritism. dumbledore literally manipulated the house cup in harry's first year specifically to replace a slytherin win with a gryffindor win, and snape is just as bad. we hear about how snape bullied neville all the time because of his potential to have saved lily, but he also bullied the other gryffindors a lot, too. he said out loud in front of hermione's peers that he didn't see a difference between the super long ever growing teeth and her normal overbite. he made fun of seamus for constantly setting things on fire. he bullied harry just as bad if not worse than draco did (i realize this was in part because of james, but harry was also lily's kid. you'd think that would count for something). umbridge attempted to hand the slytherins everything on a silver platter just because they were the "evil, pure" house, yet she made the gryffindors fight for everything. the prefects and head boy and girl frequently threatened to take house points from the other houses for small, petty reasons, and they were never discouraged or reprimanded for that. in this sort of environment, it's no wonder there were so many fights and there were always kids in the hospital wing. hogwarts was basically a building full of angry, prejudiced, scared, hormonal teenagers with loaded weapons.
no fucking wonder it's so easy for evil wizards to rise to the top in england.

(Been re-watching Reboot, love your work.) Just have to say [dubious writing and/or Trojan abilities aside] that it really is both terrifying and disturbingly intimate how Megabyte is the cause of all of Dot's deepest emotional scars and yet also knows /exactly what she (thinks) she wants/ in a partner. Your thoughts?
Hi, sorry I took a few days to answer this, it's the kind of ask I like to mull over and smirk about. I apologise if I don't actually answer the question but I'll talk around it and see where it leads.
To start with, I think you've hit on the element of the series which is at the crux of my MegaDot fanfic and fanart - that ultimately Megabyte is highly perceptive about Dot's wants, and possibly even needs, and yet, in contrast, and in line with his nature, he knows, and at many times has infiltrated, her faults and weaknesses.
Tumblr media
I will over-simplify things but bear with me...
The thing about Megabyte and Dot is that arguably, at a basic level, they are the same character. The parallels are I think particularly sharp in series one and again at the start of series 3, where they are at first competitive, astute and highly ambitious businessmen/women (series 1 - plus that nice lil scene in series 2 where Dot asks Megabyte to loan his ABCs - the fact she has him in her "phone book" always tickles me) OR later on, as the show develops and progresses, they are both sharp-minded strategists and commanders (series 3, where both characters are much darker and more ruthless).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you strip away their morals, their appearance, their gender, etc, etc, and look at their basic motives and drives, whether that be in business and trade, or in war and conquest, you have the same mould. It's beautifully done; the same character framework but in totaly contrasting lights.
And because ReBoot was the elite in terms of 90's children's television in terms of its writing, depth and structure, these parallels are apparent in their relationship and actions. One of the best ones, which was pointed out by the blog @vidwindow years ago, is a subtle one which I honestly didn't pick up on at first (goes to show that this show has so many layers so that each re-watch is a revelation... but I digress):
In the first episode of series 3, "To Mend and Defend", Megabyte salvages Hex and with a wicked grin and that thick sinister tone of his, tells Herr Doktor "I want her to have the best treatment, understand? The best." Cue evil laugh. Later in the same episode, Frisket gets hurt in the zombie game and when they get out, Dot asks the doctors to make sure Frisket gets "the best treatment possible. The best". Heartfelt, caring and true.
The contrast is startling and it is meant to be - Megabyte rebuilding his sister for enslavement, no qualms about her pain or suffering, versus Dot saving her brother's dog and companion, who is as much a family member to her as any of the sprites she shares her life with. It shows the same thought pattern but cast alternately in selfishness and selflessness. So very nicely done. Same coin, different sides. Bravo, ReBoot creators.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So being so similar, understanding Dot for Megabyte isn't really a problem. Of course he knows what her weaknesses are, because in many ways they're his own. He might not always get it right, not only because she's as smart as he is and they thus outwit each other on occasions, but also because they're both short-sighted at times. They look too far ahead, or simply don't see the woods for the trees, overthink. This is where having someone like Bob works a treat for Dot's team because he is much more grounded in the simpler things in life and less structured. Megabyte doesn't have that counterbalance.
So why might he know, or think he knows, what she wants in a partner? Well he has seen her dallying with Bob for cycles, ever since he set foot in Mainframe probably. And he's had enough time to study Bob, his enemy, who he also must be a little bit obsessed with. (Because arch enemies are. There's sexual tension there too, no mistake.) So he might not 100% know Dot's deepest desires and needs, but he probably has a good understanding of what it is about Bob that Dot adores and thus what it is that attracts her to someone.
And yet we also know Megabyte sees them never quite commiting to each other for cycles. Why don't they commit? Both too busy, too bashful, full of imposter syndrome. I digress again...
We know Megabyte is astute, that he's observant. We even see this at the end of series one where he intentionally manipulates Dot's self belief for his own gains - he was preying on her weaknesses long before she walked down the aisle to him.
Tumblr media
We can thus only assume that during his long tenure in Mainframe, where he's in constant conflict with Bob and Dot, that he has had chance to discern what it is that blocks the development of Bob and Dot's relationship. And we witness multiple times, throughout each of the RB series, those elements of Bob and Dot's characters which clash. The episode "The TIFF" is literally about this. ("The Medusa Bug" also has some nice moments where Enzo and Bob try to get Dot to take some time off.) Bob is wonderfully rash, he doesn't plan ahead, he's jovial and fun, he wears his heart on his sleeve; Dot is the opposite in many respects. Hence why they work so well together.
But if we fast forward to series four and Megabyte disguising himself as Bob, how can we not assume that in creating this performance, in plotting how he can persuade Dot to accept his charade of Bob over the real sprite, that he doesn't capitalise on his past knowledge and experience? That in trying to win Dot's heart he play his cards right, that he adjusts Bob's "character failings" so he can present a sprite who is more articulate, more organised, and more calculated. (And when I say "failings", they're not - just those minor characteristics that irk Dot at times when emotions run high). By adjusting himself to Dot's personal preferences, by impressing her by singing from her proverbial hymn sheet and fitting himself to her "values" - and at the same time having the appearance of the classic Bob with added wit and charm - he sells Dot what she wants under the guise of the person she has always wanted, but has perhaps found, in some respects... wanting?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(There's also the complicated issue of Dot's mental health playing a big part which I shan't even get started on, I'll never stop.)
In truth what Megabyte does is sell Dot "Megabyte-in-disguise", hidden beneath Bob's shell. That's all. He's not very much Bob at all when you really watch it.
Is that what she wants? Megabyte? No. His morals, his values - the sheer fact he has set up what is incontravertably and terrifyingly a rape plot - are all a complete anathema to her. And yet we are reminded that they are similar and that in those similarities there is an element of concordance, of mutuality, separated by stark morality. That they can appreciate one another and are alike one another. And it is in that sparse ground that I plant my fanfic seeds and make them germinate because, though the chance is slim, I can make that notion sprout roots. There is a twisted parallel universe where they could be together and, though they would never be a peaceful match of concordance and romance, that pair of control freaks would be electrifying; it would be a relationship which would be a constant battle of one-up-man-ship, of power, dominance and control. Get out the whips and chains, they're here for it. How can one not to tempted by the sordid notion of such a match? They wouldn't make love, they'd make fire, bitches.
Tumblr media
And on that note: Like a firewaaaallll...
Thanks for the ask, I loved this. I I hope that's helped? I don't even know if it makes sense. If not I've at the least I've given you an insight into my brain. Stay frosty!

my thoughts on jealous Kyou
TW Spoilers
.
.
.
.
.
I just realized a lot of people really like jealous, overprotective, and possessive Kyou, and, though, I guess I did put those elements in OFTC, I myself still struggle to write them. Let me break it down for a sec.
I feel like Kyou has a milder reaction to these feelings. In oftc, I remember his way of speaking to Tan when he's jealous is passive-aggressive, he gets hasty, and he masks more. Generally, Kyoujurou is very good at hiding his emotion and setting it aside since he's often in circumstances where he has to step his personal feelings aside but this also makes him difficult to articulate certain complex emotions such as grief, loss, jealousy, etc. He constantly builds up fire walls (wink wink) to protect himself and give a more confident upfront.
You might think that, oh but he already got over the grief and his last words are all about coping with those feelings, no matter how much it hurts you have to keep moving forward, set your heart ablaze nanana... and though these are good messages but they don't address the feeling itself. Obviously during that time, narrative wise, it's needed, but if we're gonna explore a character and build HCs out of them, you can dissect their words and put two and two together.
I wanted to say this makes him more avoidant than reactive but he's sort of like in-between.
(mainly) Jealousy is often spontaneous or unexpected. Little indirect things that click at a later time, the inertia will grate on his nerves. He will feel bad for not realizing sooner. But also, if there are more upfront incidents (like someone declaring to marry Tanjirou out of the blue, idk), his first reaction is to not get angry but try to make sense of it. Maybe it's less about him having a reaction and more that it takes time for him to understand, which is quite a slip up, and he didn't react enough.
It is said in the fanbook two that it’s easy for him to jump to conclusions but it's not in what people usually think. Though, this is definitely going to backfire him. What I know about this is that Kyoujurou is very smart, he has an “undistorted sound mind” and he’s a fast thinker. This also means that he’s often busy with his own head, and other people struggle to catch up with him.
He seems like he doesn’t listen but he’s very perceptive of someone’s subtle changes. Thus, he can read other people quite well. Not to mention he can interact with anyone without any prejudice most likely because of this perceptiveness as well. But, he has ✨trauma✨ and let me get into that.
Jealousy itself is a sign of insecurity, fear, and anxiety. I feel Kyou will subconsciously find this feeling the most difficult to cope with and thus, sees it as a sign of weakness. He won't judge someone for it but he generally sets a different standard for himself. He'll definitely try to manage them as soon as he realizes it's jealousy, self-talk that everything is fine, but he doesn't like this feeling and doesn't feel comfortable acknowledging it. Esp being anxious and insecure.
Insecurity is what makes him doubt his decisions when he knows his life is often on the line if he chooses a wrong decision, insecurity is what makes his father loathe sun breather/thinks that both he and Kyoujurou will never be good enough/other modern au equivalent of it.
Another thing is, he will try to solve things himself but since jealousy reflects insecurity and he can't cope with it, he will find this feeling petty. Even though, in my fic, I did make Kyoujurou end up acting on that pettiness, he gets so self-conscious about it that he immediately stops himself. Not because he doesn’t want to let it consume him, but more like he’s embarrassed by it.
Of course, different contexts will give different outcomes since in oftc they already establish that they refuse to date. It'll be different if it's canon where I can barely have time to squeeze in a romantic subplot, or a regular friends-to-lovers AU, or an established relationship.
In canon, Kyou barely gets jealous of other people but he'll feel insecure about the uncertainty of their livelihood and it might distort this sound mind of his. Usually, before he met Tan, he knows what he's supposed to do but after what happened to the Kamados, everything is set into motion then bam, the one he loves is coming for Muzan's neck. Obviously, he's starting to feel scared of losing someone even though he trusts that Tanjirou will succeed. No, they will succeed because he can back Tan up or fight Muzan himself as long as Tanjirou is alive. Basically, his mind is used to resort it to survival mode, and he will shrug off most feelings to keep everyone alive. He prefers a rumor about Tan getting confessed by another lower-ranked demon slayer than Tan having to face a Kizuki alone without any aid even though at some point in the story Tan will be as strong or stronger than him. Later on, can also be the source of his insecurity but I’ll just link duck’s explanation about this.
Maybe in a post-canon, there’s more time to think about that. Really funny because Tanjirou decided to move back to Kumotori and I assume, it’s still possible even in a Rengoku Lives alternate end. It’ll be hard to get out of the ex mentor-tsuguko relationship and Kyoujurou has already thought that Tanjirou will just marry someone from the same village, not to mention Shinjurou might mention something about marriage and you know how Kyoujurou is with marriage (though this is more Aya Yajima’s interpretation and the fact that it’s a kimegaku set, since it’s only mentioned in the LN).
But I can imagine him deciding to seek Tanjirou himself for an indefinite time. He told himself this is so Tanjirou doesn’t meet with the hypothetical villager instead of because he just misses Tan so much. By thinking jealousy is petty, thus it should be fine to act on it as long as he doesn’t do anything that crosses Tan’s boundaries, he’s also ridiculing his own feelings.
We’ll die eventually, Tanjirou might die sooner if he’s the only one that gets the mark, I might die sooner if we both got the mark. If I can’t have him, no one can, but also why would someone want to marry a man close to his death?
(me: Kyoujurou, why are you so morbid sometimes)
He thinks it makes sense, though. Imagine him just popping up and not saying why he was visiting just said he wanted to see them (from his message that was sent by Kaname). To him, just seeing Tan and helping him around, unintentionally (or intentionally) playing house, is enough for him. He tells himself he’s content now that his job is done. Senjurou doesn’t have to beat himself up for not being a swordsman and instead focuses on his own passion, Nezuko is a live and has turned into a human, Shinjurou might stop drinking. All is well but life is fleeting, he might as well die with his feeling.
It probably won’t last this long since Kyoujurou can not keep his mouth shut, he’ll blatantly ask if Tanjirou will marry someone before he dies and whatever answer he gives, Tanjirou will soon catch on to what Kyoujurou is truly thinking of said answer. Either Tanjirou is the one that will clear things up or Kyoujurou also catches on to Tanjirou’s true feelings after knowing he got a green light from Kyou to pursue further.
Or maybe Zenitsu and even Nezuko have had enough at seeing them dance around each other in front of their salads so they will spell it out for them.
In a friends-to-lovers AU, I wanted to touch this but haven't had the chance to write them. I feel people are the least of Kyoujurou's worries until time and distance play along. But again, Kyoujurou wanted to be a good friend, his best friend even, and being jealous is just going to sever their friendship. He knows Tanjirou himself will not stand for false accusations and Tanjirou will not hide things from Kyou. I can see Tanjirou being private or down low about his relationship and even if it is the case, that he doesn't know about Kyoujurou's feelings and he has decided to date someone throughout the time Kyoujurou likes him, he’ll eventually announce it (esp since he knows he can trust Kyou) and Kyoujurou will still try to be supportive. I can see him making himself busier to quench the feeling and "not get in Tanjirou's way". I feel jealous Kyou is very mellow despite the lack of expression, and if it isn't for Tanjirou's perceptiveness (and keen nose, probably), he won't catch Kyoujurou's sudden shut out. Basically, ghosting but it took Tan a while to realize it.
In an established relationship, I find that jealousy will be the least of their worries but it costs so much as the relationship becomes even more exclusive. I can see where this is going, (aside from him saying Tengen has too many wives.
Uzui: Don’t yuck my yum!)
Also, because of his family dynamic and current position—as the eldest, the only successor of the Flame Breather, as a son who’s parenting his dad, as a Hashira, and as a senpai—he finds relationship very sacred because he wants to take full responsibility of it. His family's tragedy became his life lesson.
I wouldn’t say that he doesn’t trust people but he often finds himself in a position where there is no equilibrium. People either trust him with all their lives or distrust him.
Then comes Kamado Tanjirou who knows that even someone as excellent and reliable as Kyoujurou is still human. Even in his last moment he defended him. Despite the fact that Tanjirou adores him, Tanjirou knows that Kyoujurou also can get tired, also can get injured, is awkward but caring, was just trying his best, and is very selfless. He trusts Kyou only enough so that he can put some of the burden to himself. It can throw Kyoujurou off-guard and the stakes of this kind of relationship is pretty high. It’s like a one-time chance! Thus the overprotectiveness and the possessiveness.
(Also, I guess it makes sense that Aya made Kyoujurou reject marriage offers aside from wanting to focus more on his current family, he's the type that looks for a special someone)
But also, he can finally learn first-hand how trust goes both ways (and even though he does trust other people aside Tanjirou, he felt at most ease with him). He finds that it’s unfair to demand such a thing even if he thinks that he has done so much for the relationship. If he acts out on his jealousy (in an unhealthy way), he’s denying Tanjirou’s effort.
What’s interesting is that at the same time, Tanjirou might feel the same way. Imagine being younger, a tsuguko, or a kouhai/lower ranked? Not to mention as he got to know Kyoujurou, he can see the difference in their upbringing and social gap. For someone who’s emotionally expressive, I feel Tanjirou will still think that it’s not his place to speak about jealousy even if he gets jealous of other people, especially those that fawn over Kyou. He’s already grateful enough that someone like Kyoujurou feels the same way as him. Which distorts Kyoujurou’s perception of Tanjirou being the one that sees him differently, equally.
To Kyoujurou, apparently, even when they know that they have feelings for each other and that they can rely and trust each other, people can change. Not to mention he’s more familiar with this (Shinjurou). For someone who’s very turbulent, changes still scares him. Maybe because he's more sensitive to it too. He's like a dodge ball, the more you throw the harder it bounces back and he treated change that way. Shinjurou says he should quit being a demon slayer? Then he will work even harder as a hashira! Tanjirou seems to get along with someone who's good at sword wielding? Kyoujurou can do it better! Kyoujurou is faster and he has powerful strikes! Let me teach you, let me show you how I'm better!
Ironic, because I can see because of this, there are more people fawning over Kyoujurou or that Kyoujurou seems married to his career and Tanjirou just felt disposable.
In the end, as the emotions started to pile up, the smell of Kyoujurou's inner turmoil suffocated Tanjirou's lungs while Tanjirou's polite excuses felt like a wall to Kyoujurou and they just can't not say anything about it.
They remember they should always keep their hearts ablaze and not let this negative feeling take their time so they just walk to each other and go, “Kyoujurou-san/Tanjirou, I have something to tell you.”
Communication is definitely their strongest point; but if you want something angsty, it might also be the thing that moves their relationship too soon.
Like for example, an established relationship doesn’t just mean that they’re officially a [insert label]. It can just mean that they know that they felt the same way. Maybe in some circumstances they don’t date the way most people/the people around them do, they don’t act like other marriage couple, maybe they just cohabitate and after they confess, they don’t change their routine or their activities.
(I feel rentan can be nonconforming because they're just that simple even though they have traditional values, I also quite like it when they act very polite and still hold the senpai/kohai or older/younger act because that’s just their way of respecting each other!)
They might still question each other (since again, they often talk) and this constant need of talking might pressure them to draw hasty conclusions esp with Kyoujurou's pace. Even when they were lovers they still have egos and need for autonomy, it's totally understandable.
“what are we doing? didn't we decide...?"
“aren’t we dating/married/together, then why did you...?”
“why do you act [this] when we’re dating/married/together?”
Depending on how things are, I can see Kyoujurou who’s blunt, and Tanjirou who’s sensitive find that they might offend each other or caught in misunderstanding. Having a partner who's similar to you makes you forget that there are differences. Especially through the haze of lovesickness.
This is starting to stray away from jealousy but yeah, this might be helpful with my writing. Let me know what you think or if you have anything to add.
(Also I might write about jealous Tan too if I have the chance)

health ★★★☆☆ (i like to think he's more susceptible to things like allergies/colds bc of growing up in a literal wasteland rip)
energy ★★★★☆ (fluctuates depending on circumstances like if he's gotten enough sleep/if he's sick)
beauty ★★★★★ (i mean look at him bro roguish good looks isn't just a line and no i'm not biased on this at allllll)
style ★★★☆☆ (he tries!)
hygiene ★★★★★
SKILLS
perception ★★★★☆ (he's not half as stupid as he appears, especially when the situation calls for it. he knows when to shut up and be serious.)

literacy ★★★☆☆ (def not a regular at the library but he'll occasionally stop by. also, he does enjoy reading about both famous dancers + swordmasters)
creativity ★★★★★
cooking ★☆☆☆☆ (dirt soup a la inigo, anyone?)
tech savvy ★★☆☆☆ (he can learn but it's a huge learning curve)
combat ★★★★☆ (explained this before once but basically: incredibly talented swordsman made even more so after his arrival in Fatesland. The magic wore off once he left but his base talent remained.)
survival ★★★☆☆
stealth ★★★☆☆ (moves lightly on his feet in general but can be stealthy when needed)
street smarts ★★★★☆ (he's managed to keep his pretty face intact so far!)
seduction ★★★☆☆ (HE SUCCEEDS OCCASIONALLY [thank u for the quote Sain] plus Laslow does get a paired ending)
luck ★★★★☆ (now I'm no stat expert but his base luck at the start of Fates is 14 and can grow up to 60%. Plus, he relies on a healthy amount of luck to get him out of dates gone awry.)
handling animals ★★★☆☆ (dogs are his favorite animal of all time ever)
pacifying children ★★★★★ (my personal hc is that inigo/laslow always wanted a little sibling so he therefore has a soft spot for kids and is a pro at making them giggle)
MIND
intelligence ★★★☆☆ (again, not as stupid as he has everyone believe and his emotional intelligence grows the older he gets)
happiness ★★★☆☆ (docking off one star because he does canonically fall into depressive episodes when he gets rejected + there's the whole childhood trauma thing oops)
spirituality ★★☆☆☆ (he believes in Lady Fate more than Naga or even Nohr's Dusk Dragon; having met both of them, he's not the biggest fan of either tbqh)
confidence ★★★★★ (full 5 stars for what he projects but like a three for how he actually feels)
humor ★★★★★ (does not matter if they are laughing at him or with him--point is they are laughing)
anxiety ★★★☆☆(gets better as he's older but it never fully goes away)
patience ★★★☆☆
passion ★★★★★ (one of his crit lines is literally "i'm a man of passion!")
nice         ☆★☆☆☆ mean (only truly sarcastic to owain. sorry pal. fully capable of being a snide little jerk but that's VERY rare)

pacifist   ☆☆☆★☆ violent (i have mANY thoughts about this but shall leave this here for now)
thoughtful ☆☆★☆☆ impulsive (finds a good middle ground at the ripe old age of 22)
agreeable ☆☆★☆☆ contrary (depends on the situation really!)
idealistic   ★☆☆☆☆ pragmatic (head full of rainbows and sunshine etc etc)
frugal        ☆☆☆☆★ big spender (lazzy needs money saving courses fr)
extrovert   ☆☆★☆☆ introvert (i say ambivert solely because he does require time to recharge. [read: sneaking off to go dance])
collected   ☆☆☆★☆ wild (i lean more towards wild because he does like going to a tavern/enjoying a good party but he's not boisterous by any means)
ambitious / possessive / stubborn / jealous / decisive / perfectionist
SOCIAL
charisma ★★★★★ (he wormed his way into his friends [and eventual beloved's] heart SOMEHOW)
empathy ★★★★☆ (another one of those things that grows with age)
generosity ★★★★☆ (when it really comes down to it, if you needed the shirt off his back, he'd hand it over)
wealth ★☆☆☆☆ (if he'd stop buying tea and flowers and trinkets and sweets all the time--)
honest  ☆☆★☆☆ deceptive (he had to be deceptive during his days in Nohr though he leans towards honesty)
leader   ☆☆☆★☆ follower (followed lucina's orders without question and became a retainer in Nohr. Now, how well he listens to some orders....)
polite    ☆☆★☆☆  rude (errs towards manners but he's fairly casual in how he refers to others due to how he grew up)
political ☆☆☆★☆ indifferent (he has a pretty good sense of right and wrong and isn't afraid to stand up to those who are wrong. doesn't matter his own political beliefs [and politicking in general gives him a headache.])
BELIEFS
higher power ★★☆☆☆ (same as spirituality above!)
fate/destiny ★★★★★ (Lady Fate this, Lady Fate that, listened to ex-girlfriend constantly saying "I challenge my fate!" So Fate is something he believes in wholeheartedly, as well as it being something you can change.)
magic ★★★★★ (he has no talent for it but he works alongside it constantly)
soulmates ★★★★★ (yeah.)
good and evil ★★★★☆ (i'd say without a doubt but he does have a conversation with Owain about the merits of killing others without stopping to think about it once in awhile.)
luck ★★★★☆ (again, see above)
PRIORITIES
family ★★★★★ (either blood related or found, he knows he would not survive one day without them)
friends ★★★★★ (again, he'd never survive a day without them)
love ★★★★★ (his entire reason for living)
home ★★★☆☆ (he broke time to fight for some version of his home to exist; he has accepted the home he knew no longer exists)
health ★★★☆☆ (takes care of himself best he can! will run into the rain/snow without enough warm clothing if given the chance. idiot.)
praise ★★★★★ (the validation eases his anxiety)
justice ★★★★☆ (docking off one star because he was a mercenary upon going back in time to a non-apocalyptic Ylisse. Having money for food meant more than always being just though he did have lines he would not cross.)
truth ★★★☆☆ (again, will lie for necessity or intentionally be vague but prefers the truth)
power ★☆☆☆☆ (physically he likes being strong but in terms of holding power he holds no desire)
fame ★★★☆☆ ("I won't rest until every woman in the realm swoons upon hearing my name!" [i'm paraphrasing there but. again. idiot.])
wealth ★★☆☆☆ (he's used to not owning much at ALL though he would absolutely want to provide for his family.)
others' opinions ★★☆☆☆ (his friends have no qualms telling him exactly how himself he is and he's fairly self aware but really he wants to make others happy and if his antics provide that, then so be it.)

Note
Hi mbti notes, I'm INFJ and I hope it's okay if I share my problem here.
My nagging fear of appearing as unskilled/incompetent stops me from being honest with people and taking decisive actions. That is why I always try to learn as many new things as I can, but my anxiety doesn't go away. Whenever I have a chance to make things better, I feel like I'm not ready yet, I can't handle it yet, I need more time to prepare, etc. etc. I delay this decision for better time, but this better time never comes. What makes this problem even more complicated is that people in my surrounding overestimate my smarts. It seems that I convinced everyone that I`m capable and can be trusted with important tasks but I'm still not sure whether it's true. I feel like the skills/knowledge I have are never enough, so what should I take into account and what should I work on to get rid of that fear and make positive changes?
You name the problem as "fear of appearing incompetent". Thus, you concluded that you had to learn more or be more skilled to solve the problem. Yet, no matter what you learn or how you prepare, your fear never goes away. Why?
1) Unhealthy Ni: You live in your own little bubble of unrealistic beliefs. You believe that it's possible to be so competent that you'll never ever feel incompetent again. Striving for impossible ideals ends up exacerbating your fear because you are constantly reminded of how you fall short of perfection, which triggers feelings of low self-worth.
2) Unhealthy Fe: You fear looking bad in front of others, so you try to figure out how to get affirmation. Somehow, you came to believe that a worthy person must be "competent" and/or "decisive", so you've tried to turn yourself into such a person. This means your motive for learning doesn't come from a pure or noble place; you don't genuinely love and value learning in itself. Getting validated for shallow attempts to appear competent only serves to reveal the falseness of the self-image you're trying to construct, which triggers feelings of low self-worth.
3) Unhealthy Ti: Instead of facing up to the truth of yourself, you hide the truth of who you are behind a mask. You manipulate people's perception of you as a means to get ahead of any potentially negative judgments and criticisms. In the end, however, you cannot escape criticism of yourself. You can't help but feel like an imposter because the fact is that you are one, which triggers feelings of low self-worth.
4) Unhealthy Se: In the end, you have trapped yourself in a lie, but you can't give up the lie, because the alternative is to face reality. The reality is that you are but a human being with limited mental resources, so you cannot be prepared for every possibility or make perfect decisions like an omniscient being. Instead of having faith, nurturing adaptability, and accepting yourself for who you are, you overreact, overthink, and micromanage yourself into a corner, often feeling stuck and incompetent, which triggers feelings of low self-worth.
Excessive/irrational fear is an emotional problem. One of the most important aspects of improving your emotional intelligence is to stop treating your feelings and emotions as the enemy. Feeling afraid threatens the ego, so you label fear as a "problem" and try to get rid of it. You end up in self-sabotage because you have missed the point. Fear exists for a reason.
You're asking the wrong question. You're asking how to get rid of fear when you should be asking where your fear comes from, to get to the bottom of it. The way through fear is to confront it head on. Why, exactly, are you so afraid to appear incompetent in front of people? Why don't you believe that you have the right to be who you are and make whatever decisions you want at whatever speed you want? Why do you self-harm trying to twist yourself into some unhealthy image of perfect "competence"?
Therapy might be a good idea. You seem to suffer deeper problems related to low self-worth, low self-esteem, self-loathing, or shame. You overcompensate by trying to fool everyone into thinking you are skilled instead of figuring out why you have low self-worth to begin with. When you come to understand your true worth, you won't be afraid of appearing incompetent in front of others because: 1) you would have realistic expectations of yourself, and 2) you would embrace mistakes and failures as necessary for learning and growth.
Have you read the study guides and researched past posts, because low self-worth is a common INFJ problem that has been discussed before? If not, you've got some studying to do. To address negative emotions properly, you have to listen to them and understand them. This requires empathy and compassion - two things you do not offer to yourself. When you don't have empathy and compassion for yourself, you'll never truly know yourself. It's very difficult to learn and grow when shame keeps the real you locked away in a dark cage.

How Te and Ti works
Tumblr media
I was to stop making new ones for functions but I guess my interest came back for these. I haven’t fully grasped what the other functions are, but these are my initial thoughts for them. It would have been better to parallel Fi and Ti since they are technically similar but my previous posts paired both extroverted and introverted of one function, so I’ll just stick to it. I can’t find a mirror between both on how they work similar to what happens with Se and Si so I just drew it as how I understood it. Terms: OBJECT - anything that is real/present or can be perceived, event SUBJECT - you, the person doing the perception SUBJECTIVE FACTOR - past/present/future, experiences, etc. FACTS - definitions that are tangible or are true
INTROVERTED THINKING (Ti Dominant) - ITJ
First of all, I don’t see Accuracy as the main word for the function which is described by MBTI. It may be the end product though. It can be, in its core, correlated with PERSPECTIVE or just to be safe we can use CONCEPTS/THEORIES
- What Ti does is it usually sees an object or event which then an abstract thought pops up (sometimes it does this spontaneously) usually leading to a concept/theory which is still blurred. It then takes different perspectives of an object or objects breaking it down finding things that can justify on the concept/theory until it is finally formed/concluded. It feels like you’re trying to build something by looking on different things in different ways. When it is finally concluded, then this concept can be used on different objects/events.  An example would be this theory I had when I was still in college about “smart people being generally skinny”. It started with the thought of thinking/reading books/and using your brain needs a lot of glucose -> glucose is depleted thus fat is not stored (Yes fat comes from unused glucose). I then started observing the top students and true enough they are usually skinny or average in weight and included in different factors as well. But I never did conclude this theory because there are other factors that can still come into play.
MBTI or psychology in itself is full of concepts and theories that the Ti dom / Ti function would like to play and enjoy with since most of it are intangible.
Some Statements (not mine) about Ti which I found in a blog explaining Chapter X:
- I personally have a sort of Ti standard that if you cannot put it into simple terms then you do not understand it yourself. I feel negative when someone says, “It’s extremely complex, too hard to explain” Sure it takes time to make things simple and concise but don’t blame others for our own lack of Fe work and then belittle them, “You wouldn’t get it.” If you can’t Te and Fe it, then nobody can get it or trust that you yourself got it.
- That is because to attack his most function is to attack him. That is like a direct attack not to mention he does not trust the Fe to sympathize with the attacker. Not that he will attempt to press anyone with his convictions, but he will break out with retorts against every criticism, however just.
EXTROVERTED THINKING (Te dominant) - ETJ
Same with Ti, Te is not in its nature about Effectiveness. It can lead to everything being effective but the function itself is more of STANDARDIZATION. It’s not about having organizational skills or about scheduling as what MBTI describes.
- What Te does is that it collects a lot of facts and produces this what I believe is a filter. This filter is what we call a STANDARD/ SYSTEM. I’m not really sure how it is made but it’s there. Then with this standard it judges an object with facts about it and when all of the facts presented are true which then the object can be valued or is considered true.
An example would be an ENTJ friend of mine who shares about this “list of things to look for to consider her perfect boyfriend for her” which includes a basketball player, taller than her, smarter than her, more dominant, etc. And everyone who does not fit that criteria are all rejected and not given a chance at all. You may call them having high standards but that is what they perceive is true. Another instance would be having coworkers that are not up to her standards, she usually despises them, and she usually just does the work because she believes she can only trust herself.
Usually, they are skeptical to things that are not tangible to them or out of this world (ghosts).
Some Statements (not mine) about Te which I found in a blog explaining Chapter X:
- Te “produces” new facts that lead to mainstream truth. Concepts are “synthetic” and “predicative”. I think he (Carl Jung) is getting at the concept of gather vs organize here and noticing that Te is gathering for the mainstream good. It is going out and obtaining new data for them.

Just wanted to express a lot of appreciation for that one post you made about being smart enough to notice what's happening while being broken down, if you know what it's talking about. Appreciation for remaining cognizant while being broken down is, like, uberly rare. it hasn't seen anything else like it since it saw that post.
it doesn't always automatically type the way subs are expected to type, and it doesn't seem to be able to turn its brain off (though it has tried). But it has a Mxtress who does really appreciate it when it's able to articulate really well what is happening to it internally and externally and what the significant implications are. Like, it's being denied for the rest of its life and won't ever feel an orgasm again, but it has a very firm understanding of how good an orgasm would have felt in a given circumstance and is usually able to describe it. Mxtress gets a lot out of that, especially because it seems like it makes it suffer more each time it's denied when it's fully aware that this is how it will be forever.
Online, you're pretty much the only one who's ever written anything that associated being broken down, edging, etc. with maintaining a state of mind that is perceptive. Most posts do the opposite, like "edge until you can't think," that sort of thing.
So yeah, just wanted to say thank you. Uh, this'll be really embarrassing if it's in the wrong ask inbox and you have no clue what this is about.
haha you got the right ask box friend!
i've seen you engaging with my posts a lot, and i have to say i'm so flattered and pleased my posts resonate with you <3 i'm a bit of an oddball sub myself. i am autistic, and BDSM is one of my special interests, so i tend to be turning certain parts of the scene over and over in my head a lot of the time.
and fucking hell, i have come across so many people who claim to be in the community who are like...surprised that i'm highly assertive about what i want. i'm "too bossy" for a sub. or so they say--it's always a red flag that this "dom" doesn't know wtf they're talking about, or anything about forming ethical relationships with humans. /rant
truth is, i edge myself stupid all the time, but i always come back down with a feeling of clarity, or self-awareness. almost meditatively, i feel centered in my own body.
i draw a hard line between reality and fantasy. both are needed, both are healthy, but the predominant fantasy atm seems to be that edging, like, auto-bimbofies you? and it's good to take a reality check once in awhile and remind folx that it's really not that way. you are a person, and if you cannot fully understand what is happening to you, and fully consent to it, then play becomes unsafe. centering the sub as participant, rather than the object-acted-upon, is sorely lacking in our community.
obviously i write fantasies to the contrary of the above, but like i said. reality checks. if you truly feel denial is inhibiting your ability to communicate with your partner, making your sense of self-worth, self-efficacy, or self-concept unknown to you, or otherwise compromising you in or out of the scene, you need to take a break from denial. you need to have a heart-to-heart with yourself, and then your partner(s). nobody should do things to you that you do not want or understand.
thanks, bunny, for this ask--a lot of great thoughts here!

Hi! Feel free to ignore this if you don't want to get into it but I was wondering..
As a person who, back in October, wanted to leave the fandom initially and then changed their mind, how do you feel about the situation now you've had a few months to think about it?
I think there was a huge pressure on people to make a decision immediately and stick with it. You're one of the very few people (I've seen) who decided to leave and then came back on the same account, actually speaking about why they changed their mind.
Leaving out any speculation about the potential court case, strictly speaking about what was confirmed, were you able to distance yourself from the fandom a bit more and if so, did that change your perception of the situation and the betrayal you felt?
Have a good day!
(I hope I managed to get across that I'm asking with genuine curiosity, not to shame you for any feelings decisions)
hellooooo - yeah sure thing i really don't mind sharing my thoughts 😁 i'll put it under the cut so people can ignore it if they don't wanna get into this. apologies in advance it turned into a massive essay haha ~
100% taking time away to really think over everything contributed maaaassively towards how i feel currently. i agree i think initially a lot of people felt like they had to make a permanent choice, and maybe some people have changed their mind since but haven't felt confident enough to return or vice versa...
when a situation is really emotional and stressful like it was back then, a lot of thoughts and decisions are made purely in the present without much thought for the future. that's just human nature - especially if you're of the nd variety and struggle with things like decision making, emotional regulation, etc. that's why i always try really hard to choose my words carefully when expressing myself but my emotional regulation is fucking awful so i 100% have a tendency to have initial reactions that i'm not proud of, say things i don't mean, etc
me personally, i've gotten to a point in my life where i feel absolutely no shame or embarrassment in turning around and saying 'i know i said this a while ago but over time i came to change my mind so either i take it back or i'm changing my viewpoint'.
i believe i mentioned back then when everything went down that a lot of my disappointment and betrayal had a lot to do with myself. because i was one of the people that initially blindly defended dream - i had full confidence he wouldn't engage in private conversations with fans, especially using his main accounts, because dream is a smart guy so surely he wouldn't do something so stupid? (at the end of the day he's a young white male who rose to fame with unimaginable speed...) so when shit hit the fan and he came forward to say that he did have private conversations with fans, i was less disappointed in him and way more disappointed in myself.
that's a big part of why i think i was able to come back, because i left not just because i didn't think i could support dream again, but because i knew i needed to re-evaluate myself and my attachment to these creators, and bring myself back down to earth like 'hey! i know you love these guys but don't forget you don't actually know them! don't ever place love above morals! your morality should not be conditional based on who is involved in a situation!'
that's basically what i spent my time focusing on - i actually ended up detaching myself from the other fandom i was in at the time too, because i wanted to change really badly. i turned off all notifications, i stopped checking things religiously, i stopped watching streams and videos, etc. i spent a whole month just living my life, and working on my priorities, and i think it was exactly what i needed. because yes i came back, but i'm here with a much much healthier perspective than before.
so i came back to support them, but i'm basically doing so in a way that does not cost me anything financially nor mentally. i still do not have any of their twitter notifications on, i don't have their youtube or tiktok notifications on, i also use twitch prime to sub to george and no longer sub with actual money, i don't buy any merch, i don't stay up for streams if i know i've got somewhere to be the next day and i need sleep. i basically am in a place now where they are no longer the priority that they used to be. they are just these little dudes that i enjoy watching when i'm online and there happens to be content 😊
in regards to the situation itself - i will be honest, i haven't kept up massively. it may be ignorant of me, but as far as i'm aware there's really not much information available out there as is, so i'm going to believe they are - as they rightfully should - taking care of it all behind the scenes. i suppose i still don't fully know what to believe, but i've gotten past it now. there's still a part of me that feels disappointment towards dream, and i think that's okay - it serves as a reminder that i can't forget my priorities in life. i still am fond of him, i suppose not nearly as much as before because i don't see him in the same way anymore - but enough that i am able to enjoy his content again and continue being in this community.
this community has been like a lifeline for me for a very, very long time. and i think i would have come back even if i felt nothing for dream anymore, because at the end of the day, this community is us, made by us, kept active by us, and i can enjoy plenty of things with you guys without relying on dream to be my reason to stay 😁
i am sO SORRY for the length of this answer HAHAHA but thank you for your question and i hope all of my ramblings made some sense ❤️

In The Last Jedi Luke helps guide Rey to the "Knowledge of Good & Evil" (Also, the history of the Sith should be that they were "good" people who were killed for teaching this and went into hiding)
Tumblr media
Luke's 2nd lesson to Rey in #TheLastJedi completely obliterates any misconceptions about The Force. It's so on point, so exacting in fact to the basic #JosephCambell distillation of the dualistic Spiritual/Physical Reality (beyond morals) of Creation - that it actually boggles my mind that #RianJohnson pulled off that upheaval (in such a tersely competent cinematic way). It's revolutionary. It was abandoned in #TheRiseOfSkywalker, perhaps because higher ups realized the core SW fanbase isn't ready for it? Though, the mainstream audience likely is, I think the Western World is hungry to evolve from the Old Myth. Luke doesn't teach her anything, he simply directs her to find It for herself. Basically, gnosis - That she is All Of The Divine, as is Everything Else That Exists In The Infinite Of Every Universe All Of The Divine.
Btw, the ONLY way to write the real history of The Sith, is to make their beginnings to thousands of years prior be a sect who believed this "knowledge" of The Force (Gnosis)" and were victims of brutal murderous Crusades - that would kill heretics who didn't ONLY adhere to the Light Side of the Force (In Creed - no one actually cares about in practice). In any case, the Original Sith would simply want all beings to know their Self (sounds like Sith) to know they are equally connected to The Force. They would thus want structures to represent this equality. They would challenge established order of the Elite keeping The Force for themselves. Thus, The Sith would have to go into hiding. Somewhere along the line the good-intentioned Sith would be infiltrated with ill-intentioned would-be Tyrants, with a secret society plan to simply take over the Galaxy for themselves. Leading to Palpatine's fulfillment of the plan, and twisting this in saying to Anakin, 'If you want to be a wise leader, you must embrace a larger view of The Force." True in essence, but twisted just for Palpatine's purposes.
This ultimately leads to Luke understand The Great Mistake and working to dismantle any Elite control of The Force in the Galaxy, by helping Rey see it All inside herself.
If Star Wars goes beyond Episode IX, it needs to go in this, or it will continue to be Spiritually irrelevant like TROS. Finally, some mythologists, authors and historians have argued that the Snake in the Garden of Eden, was actually a twisting of an older Sumerian Garden of Eden myth where the God Enki was teaching that women shamans of the matriarchal society the "knowledge of good and evil." Enki is said to have desired to free people from the mental and physical slavery of his brother Enlil on the Sumerian people. He is always represented with fish scales, or as a snake. So the fish / snake God Enki appeared to women in Eden. This was then intentionally manipulated by men (with a long-term plan to change the cultural myth for their power) to be "Evil", and in so doing they would tarnish the perception of women in society, because they were guided by Enki. Thus, they said Enki only appeared "good" with good intentions, but his true self was evil. The word Satam was also used for Enki - some say that this is how the myth of the Devil came to be. In any case, Luke is shown to catch a big fish, and even wears it over his shoulders. This is called "syncretic" mythology. For ex., the Egyptioan God Thoth later becomes the Greek God Hermes or the Aphrodite (Greek) becomes Venus (Roman) etc. I have to wonder if Rian Johnson was trying to portray Luke as a kind of Enki - that he was smart enough to go back to the very roots of Western mythology and attempt to undo the damage done to Enki.
