hot take for the day: dick grayson, damian wayne, and cassandra cain are the best cooks in the family.

bruce does okay, but it's super american. afred does great, but it's super posh. duke gives me vibes of "i led a child gang, i can totally cook food" and actually can. tim definitely just eats whatever is available.

and jason...let's be so for real guys, he can't cook well. he cooks to survive, and he definitely has his poverty comfort foods like butter noodles, ramen noodles, chipped beef and gravy on toast (aka, shit on shingles), mac and cheese (sometimes with hotdogs cut up in it), etc.

don't ask me about anyone else though because i think i've lost too many braincells today.

Some fans have gotten it into their heads that Jason's philosophy is the complete opposite of Cass' philosophy, and that means he is passionate about murdering just as much as she is passionate about preventing murder.

Cass is defined by her endless drive to save people from being killed. She suffers deep pain at any loss of human life.

Jason is okay with not murdering people. He doesn't depend on a daily murder ration. He's not fueled by a need to murder like Cass is fueled by her need to prevent murder.

Batfamily Chronological Reading List

Here it is, a massive list of Batfamily comics all sorted by issue release date so you can read them in the order they were originally intended to be read in, or easily reference back to what happened when. Do you want to know what Dick was up to during A Death in the Family? Need to know if Cass was around yet when Steph had her baby for your fan fic? Just a completion-ist with too much time on your hands like me? Then this is the list for you!

About six months ago I was trying to read my way through some old comics and getting insanely frustrated trying to figure out the order they went in. There are lots of reading lists online, but none of them gave me what I truly wanted: the order of individual issues rather than comic runs or collections. I also couldn't find any that featured all of the Batkids. So I took all of the reading lists I was using, found the On-Sale-Date for each of the issues mentioned, found a few other lists to fill in some gaps, and complied them into chronological order.

This list features what I consider to be the main 8 Batfamily members: Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain, Damian Wayne, and Duke Thomas. It is by no means every appearance of these characters, but it is hopefully all of the important ones and then some. By no means do I suggest reading all of these (unless you're slightly insane like me), it's more of a reference guide than a read list.

Some Disclaimers:

This is still a work in progress. You'll notice that the first third of the list is much more detailed than the more recent entries. That's because I haven't read them yet. As of now I've only reached Batgirl 2000 #15, but will continue updating as I go through (I'm hoping to finish sometime within the next 12 months).

This is not a Batman list. I have included some issues about Bruce that I feel are important to the overall story, but if I were to include all of his important issues it would make the list unusable. You should still be able to follow his character arcs through his role in the comics listed here.

I needed to cut off somewhere, so anything released after December 31, 2023 was not included. I may go back and change this later, but not any time soon.

I do not want to discredit any of the Batfamily members not included here (ie Kate, Helena, Jean Paul). They are all important to Bruce and Gotham in their own way, but again I needed to cut it off somewhere or I never would have found an end.

For any edits you wish to suggest, please do so through this form. Any suggestions given not through this form will not be considered, and as it says in the form, I also will not consider any that don't have an explanation.

For our purposes, a “pool noodle” is a relationship tag that comes up with less than 30 hits on Ao3. Platonic (&) relationships count! Any and all crossover pairings with under 30 existing fics are welcome.

We have six themes. Each theme will have a week for posting creations and a week for celebrating — giving feedback and leaving comments. We’ll share everything that was created the previous week and try to spread the love, but also post rec lists of our favorite older fics that fit the theme.

Prompt: Danbert outside POV? Bonus points if it’s the POV of someone at the hospital like a fellow doctor or nurse, but I’m not picky!

After twenty years of nursing, Simone had been through just about every emotion possible when it came to her job. From the hopeful highs fresh out of her degree, bright-eyed and optimistic, to the lows of burnout, hating her job, her life, and everything in between, before finally arriving at where she was now. Which was a quiet acceptance of the daily toils her line of work entailed. She both loved and hated certain parts of the hospital, but for the most part she just focused on one task at a time, going through the motions until she could clock out and go home to work on painting her miniatures.

One thing she definitely despised, though, was watching the drama between her coworkers. Simone mostly kept to herself and select few others; Cassandra, a fellow nurse, Paula, one of the cleaning ladies, and Bob, who came in every other day to do maintenance around the building. She largely didn't care for doctors, who were either cocky, negligent, or some combination of both. The two doctors at the top of her shit list were those freaks, Cain and West.

Simone looked up from her patient notes at the sound of West's clipped voice and spotted him engaged in a heated argument with Cain. They both wore pinched expressions as they glared at each other over a sleeping patient. It seemed like they were trying to keep their voices down, but their hushed whispers were getting louder and louder until they were basically shouting at each other in raspy voices.

Simone caught mention of something to do with keeping the basement clean before losing interest and walking off.

It was a few hours later when she was walking back to the floor from Pathology that she heard the familiar sound of the two men arguing inside a broom closet. She came to a halt, her sneakers squeaking softly on the linoleum floor. On any other day she would've just assumed the two were a couple of closet cases looking for a quick hook-up at work--irritating and unprofessional--and left it at that, but the urgency in West's voice had her straining her ears.

"Please, Danny," West breathed on the other side of the door. "I need it."

"Herbert, no," came Cain's reply, though even to Simone's ears he sounded like he was wavering. "We talked about this."

"I know but I just need you to give me a little," West whined. "Just enough to see me through 'til the end of the day. I can't stop myself from staring at you...knowing you could give it to me any time."

Simone's hand flew to her mouth to stifle her gasp. She'd never pegged West as being so whorish. Cain, yes. That man looked ready to both burst into tears and get nasty on a gurney 24/7, but West had always seemed to be the more buttoned-up of the two. How wrong she'd been. She supposed it was true what they said: nerd on the streets, freak in the sheets.

"Can't you at least just wait until we get home?" Cain asked. "It feels wrong, doing it here at work."

"I can't wait," West panted, sounding like a dog in heat. "I need it now. I need you now."

God damn, Simone thought. Cassandra was going to have a field day when she told her about this.

"Simone?"

Simone spun around to see Rachel, the head nurse, walking down the hall towards her. She was frowning in evident confusion.

"You okay?" Rachel asked.

Simone nodded quickly, already backing away from the broom closet (which had suddenly gone quiet). "Mhmm, yep. I'm fine. Was just heading back to the floor."

"Alright," Rachel said, sounding unconvinced. "Well, hurry up, please. Shenton needs help dealing with Mr. Collins."

"Right away," Simone replied, hurrying away.

She didn't look at West or Cain for the rest of the day. She thought it'd probably be a long time before she could look at either of them again without remembering West's breathy, desperate voice.

First that massacre a few months back and now this? Why couldn't she work at a normal hospital?

The basic premise of this is that the time has come for older heroes to step down and the next generation take their place. Clark Kent is now the editor and owner of the Daily Planet and vows to lead them into the future while keeping their dedication to the truth. Giving Some of my own Traits (and one of my siblings') to These Dorks Just cuz:

Dick Grayson

Has the urge to grab/buy anything blue (it's like a crow instantly getting their interest piqued by something shiny).

Puts Nesquik strawberry syrup and Nesquik banana milk powder into Fruity Pebbels, Lucky Charms, etc.

Will pour ungodly amounts of sugar into Cheerios and corn flakes (one of my little siblings does this and it's horrifying to watch).

Will unironically say "diddly darn" and "frickity frick frack".

Jason Todd

Has an insecurity about cartwheels (Dick told him to do one when he was still Robin, and then laughed at him, and Jason still doesn't know why).

Prefers to tea to coffee.

Made up his own writing system because he was paranoid of people reading his diary and finding out his secrets (he doesn't have a diary).

Cassandra Cain

Has disproportionately small hands (Tim and Steph tease her for it).

Never really looked at herself in the mirror too closely, and then did and realized she has a small collection of really faint freckles on her face (like, you wouldn't be able to see them unless you were five inches away from her face).

Will sit in corners in complete darkness, unintentionally (sorta) scaring whoever passes by when they realize she's there.

Stephanie Brown

Forgets about her moles, and then sees one and tries to scratch it off before realizing it's a mole and not dirt or something. (Recently discovered she has a mole under her ear.)

Will buy something just because it's purple (she's so like me fr).

Laughs in the middle of panic attacks and just says no to herself in the mirror.

Loves taking candid pictures of her friends and family. (Also the one who people go to take pictures and videos of them for things like social media because she WILL explore those angels and get low to the ground if need be.)

Timothy Drake

Somehow always gets holes in his socks (and is bullied relentlessly for it by the people who are supposed to be his siblings).

Asks the most random questions. (Once asked, "Do you think if we both simultaneously exploded randomly, our intestines would get tabgled?" while cuddling with someone.)

Found a random hex nut and put a string through it and wears it daily as a necklace.

The person people go to for photos, but in the way people go to JC Penny's for photos.

Duke Thomas

Will look at a tree and say, "Bob Ross would so love to paint a tree like that."

Shows movie trailers to his family and then says no when they ask if he wants to see the movie together with them.

Likes to deny the obvious and say something outlandish because he thinks it's funny. ("Are you making waffles?" "No, I'm dancing and seeing visions of scary roosters.")

Damian Wayne

Will take a single question about whatever comic he's reading right now as an opportunity to lore dump everything about it, from the first chapter to the most recent.

When he was younger and new to the manor, he would dig up worms and look under rocks for bugs.

He occasionally gets a favorite animal fact and shares it with everyone regardless of if they ask.
